- 0:00Trek us, the Galaxy's most unpredictable Star Trek podcast. Hey, ladies and
- 0:26gentlemen, welcome to Trek Cast, the galaxy of both Unpredictable Star Trek podcast
- 0:32and with me today is uh Daniel Reyes. And apparently we also have Dan
- 0:38Lobardo. Apparently what do you mean? Apparently? What happened with us?
- 0:45As always? What's a little late to the party there? Uh, I
- 0:49don't know what you're talking about? The whole time? Is the quote that
- 0:55Dan says, Dan never arrives late or or early. He arrives precisely.
- 1:02I think I said the show starts when I get here. I think that's
- 1:04right. All right, Okay, you said that from your trailer as you
- 1:08slammed the door. Yeah, well, I knew we were coming at you
- 1:12from Michigan and Idaho. I just didn't know if we were coming at you
- 1:15from New York yet. What are we doing here? Oh? Yeah,
- 1:21we're we're here to discuss season five, episode six, another prime directive.
- 1:26Screw up? I think that was the episode name. That's right, And
- 1:29uh, Daniel, you got some Star Trek news for us, We got
- 1:32some listener feedback. So yeah, hey, with your with your audio,
- 1:37Scott, you're cracking crackling a lot, Am I crackling? Huh oh yeah,
- 1:44huh, how we shound it out? Still there? Let me uh,
- 1:47let me resett. Yeah, I'll get started on the news in the
- 1:51meantime. Or he's talking smack about being on time, but he's unprepared.
- 1:57That's right. I came in, I'm good to go, came in just
- 2:01the time. I'm good to go. Positive thoughts and feedback, remember positive
- 2:07thoughts of yeah, it's almost over. I actually liked the episode this week.
- 2:16It's like when you're on that roller coaster that you're not like it and
- 2:20you're like, this is the last lap. Okay, just hold on,
- 2:22just hold on. That's that's yeah, we're almost there. Got that side,
- 2:27got that side pain from running too much and yep yep, yeah fair
- 2:31enough. Yeah, all right, Well let's get to the news. Yeah,
- 2:38do it Strews. All right, Well, we're waiting on Scott.
- 2:45Our first news story. It's kind of more or less an update on what's
- 2:49going on with Paramounts. So we've had a couple of news stories. There's
- 2:53been a lot of news stories actually about it. But Yahoo Finance did a
- 2:58really good kind of like overview of what's going on with it. So basically,
- 3:04on Friday, the exclusive negotiating window between Paramount and and sky Dance ended
- 3:16right with no deals struck. So currently Paramount is still for sale. We
- 3:21don't have a buyer yet. At that time though, Sony and Apollo made
- 3:27it known that they would give a last and final offer of twenty six billion
- 3:32dollars for Paramount. The reason why Sony is partnering with Apollo is because of
- 3:39federal regulations and apparently CBS cannot be owned by a foreign company, so Apollo
- 3:47would technically own CBS, whereas Sony, being a foreign company, could then
- 3:53own the rest of the studio. So that's why that's going. But it
- 3:57is expected that that offer of twenty six billion dollar will be rejected. Right,
- 4:02wow, So so then what's going to happen? Right? Yeah?
- 4:08So, so recently Paramount kicked their CEO to the curb and announced the office
- 4:15of the CEO where they have three people in charge. Oh that always makes
- 4:19things better, right, three people doing the java one first, three three
- 4:25captains, three captains exactly exactly. So they're going to run by parliament,
- 4:32so that'll work. Yeah, And and nobody really knows, and so the
- 4:39the only way to because here's the thing, because they're a publicly traded company,
- 4:45they have what they call fiduciary responsibility to maximize investors' profits. Right,
- 4:51So the the only thing that Wall Street says that that Paramount could do to
- 4:58at least a piece of vestors is to do some sort of merger, at
- 5:01least streaming wise with Comcast a KA Peacock. So we'll see, Yeah,
- 5:11everything is up in the air. So let me ask you this. Yeah,
- 5:15because another thing that that that happens in these situations sometimes they start selling
- 5:18off assets, right, Star Trek. Star Trek is an asset, So
- 5:23I guess, I guess I'll ask each of you do we care who owns
- 5:29it? Now? I don't I do in that I want to see improvements
- 5:38in the franchise, So I would hope that the new owner is somebody with
- 5:43a proven record of success. But everything, Oh no, yeah, maybe
- 5:46a misunderstood me. I mean I probably know. I think I asked that
- 5:49room. Do we care if Paramount is not the one to own it?
- 5:55Actually? Of course, of course we want, of course we want whoever
- 6:00owns it to do good things with it, but right, I don't think
- 6:03it in my heart of hearts, I'm not like it has to stay with
- 6:06Paramount. Paramount has this legacy of start Yeah no, no, no,
- 6:13I mean we went through this with with with twentieth Century Fox and Star Wars,
- 6:17right, dar Trek has deep roots of not beings of going into syndication.
- 6:23I mean yeah, yeah, so yeah, yeah, Alejandra says,
- 6:29as long as the new owner doesn't screw over the Start Trek franchise, yeah,
- 6:31basically absolutely. Yeah. So am I still crackling? You are?
- 6:38Yeah? I wonder if you're I wonder if your headset is giving up the
- 6:41ghost. That's what I'm wondering too. Yeah, so I'm gonna try a
- 6:46slightly different setup. That's the Internet's the Let me try something else. Okay,
- 6:51sounds good? All right? So oh yeah, so so yeah,
- 6:58so that's where we're at. We don't know what's gonna happen, and there
- 7:00could be a potential some sort of combining of Peacock and Paramount plus Okay,
- 7:08sure, I mean yeah, we don't know. Ye cock Mount, Yes,
- 7:15the cock Mount could be coming, you know, beware all right,
- 7:21And then our next news story comes to us from Comic Book Movie or Comic
- 7:26book dot Com and they have a recap of the latest episode of The Ready
- 7:30Room with Will Wheaton and on their Alex Kurtzman himself was on the episode.
- 7:38I did watch the episode because I suffer for the people, and it was
- 7:42Yes, it was about a ten minute interview about all the latest and what's
- 7:47going on with Star Trek. I thought it was really funny that they did
- 7:50keep saying that Star Trek is expanding as they're getting rid of shows as their
- 7:57kids shows, right right. Yeah. It's also interesting is that they listed
- 8:01all the shows that have come out since Discovery and did not mention Prodigy.
- 8:05So Prodigy is like officially that we do not speak about it. Yeah.
- 8:11Yeah, so that's that's kind of fun. Also, one other thing that
- 8:16was interesting that Kurtsman brought up is that he does not want to tell stories
- 8:22in the Star Trek franchise unless they have something to say. He doesn't want
- 8:26to retread ground, which a lot of fans are interpreting as that is your
- 8:31confirmation that Legacy is never going to happen, So because Legacy would be retreading
- 8:39ground. So it is funny if you go look at the comments on that
- 8:43Will Wheaten post it is nothing but either save lower decks or we want legacy.
- 8:50There's over one hundred comments on it. I read all of them and
- 8:54only two of them are supportive of Discovery. You know what's funny? Yeah?
- 9:01So what was the quote? Quote? We don't want to tell stories
- 9:05that have already been told, right, we don't want to retread, retread
- 9:09stories. Yeah, ok, yeah, your most popular show, Strange New
- 9:15Worlds, is exactly that. Yeah, we're going to go back to a
- 9:18ship that we've all seen before, where half the crew we've already seen them,
- 9:26half the stories, we know how they end. And it's the most
- 9:30popular thing you have. So what are we talking about here? I know,
- 9:33I know, yeah, yeah. The most popular season of the card
- 9:41was the one where they went, let's let's go back to the old formula,
- 9:45let's bring funny back in, go back to the old formula, tell
- 9:50a little bit more of these stories that that we've already touched on. And
- 9:54it was the most popular season by far out of all three. So get
- 9:58your head out of your butt, man mine, are you talking to me?
- 10:03Yes? Yes, that's right. No, you we say put it
- 10:07back in. You do your best come back in Yeah, okay, how
- 10:11about now that much better? Much better? Sound? You sound great,
- 10:16you look blurry. We got to choose from one, and since a podcast,
- 10:20there are people who listen but don't watch. There's nobody that watches but
- 10:24doesn't listen. So I guess this is the best is the best setup,
- 10:28This is the best set up. And then our last new story much rather
- 10:31woul Yeah, sorry, go ahead, no good, go ahead good.
- 10:37I was gonna say everybody, that's you'd much rather listen to me than look
- 10:39at me, that's for sure. There you go. And then our last
- 10:43new story club to us from star Trek dot com. And you can see
- 10:46the picture there if you're watching with us. Uh. They have changed the
- 10:50name at one of the Pinewood studios in Toronto to officially the Star Trek Stage.
- 10:56It's the location where they currently shoot Discovery. Let me see if I
- 11:01can get a bigger yeah. So there they are. There's the cast standing
- 11:07out in front of the giant sign that says the Star Trek Stage on it.
- 11:11So so when I see photos like this, behind the scenes photos when
- 11:15they're in costume and whatnot, I can't help. I can't help, but
- 11:18look for things like, hey, we can only see Tilly's head. Does
- 11:22she have a big, gaping stab wound that they don't want us to see?
- 11:26Right right, right, right? So yeah, you know, I
- 11:33thought that was kind of cool. It's a it's a fun, little feel
- 11:35good so yeah. But yeah, that's that's all the news stories. And
- 11:39I also look for feet. That's right. I want to see him with
- 11:43normal feet. Robert is saying hello from the UK. He didn't really like
- 11:48this week's episode of Discovery. Also on from last week. Have you had
- 11:54sausage rules in America? No, they don't have him in Idaho. I'll
- 11:58tell you that. What's what's the sausage roll? Yeah? What's a sausage
- 12:01roll? Yeah, Robert, you're gonna have to tell us what a sausage
- 12:03roll is because we have imaginations. Yeah, I mean, is that a
- 12:11sausage that you put on a roll? Because I mean we got I mean,
- 12:13that's it's a roll that's made out of sausage. Wait a minute,
- 12:20I was just gonna say a sausage on a roll as a hot dog,
- 12:22which is also a sandwich by the way, No, no no, no,
- 12:24no, no, no no no. The bun is made out of
- 12:28the meat and then you put like a roll inside of it. Oh like
- 12:31when when KFC did the thing where they're like, we're gonna make a sandwich
- 12:35but the bread is chicken. Yeah yeah maybe. Oh so okay, fun
- 12:41KFC story. Okay, if you got a minute, I don't think I've
- 12:46ever heard that story. So, you know how there's you know how there's
- 12:52stuff here that we we think is uh, there's like foods here that we
- 12:58think are cultural significant where they came from, but they're really not. Like
- 13:01Fortune cookies aren't really Chinese, and nobody in Mexico cares about single to Mayo
- 13:07and stuff like that. Yeah, okay, So apparently everyone in Japan is
- 13:15under the impression that Americans eat fried chicken on Christmas. Yeah, it's a
- 13:22thing over It's a huge thing over there, like around Christmas. Like they
- 13:26celebrate Christmas in Japan, but they don't celebrate any of the religious aspect of
- 13:30it. It's it's one commercial Christmas. Santa Claus, rut Al, Frosty
- 13:35the Snowman, and apparently KFC fried chicken because because the guy who opened the
- 13:43first KFC franchise in Japan just on a radio interview years ago just say oh
- 13:50yeah, Americans the fried chicken on Christmas Day and boom it just blew up.
- 13:54So they have like the Christmas KFC bucket. It's just oh wow,
- 14:01yeah that's amazing. Look Scott, he's still likes. He's like, see
- 14:05what flights they have December twenty second, We're going, look how family is
- 14:13the day before Christmas. I'm gonna have to get some KFC so I can
- 14:16eat it on Christmas. Yeah. Yeah, oh you don't want old KFC,
- 14:22man, you need that day old KFC. Yeah, you need that
- 14:26fresh from the heat lamp. Yeah, I did, can't see. I
- 14:31like fried chicken every once in a while. Saush is meat wrapped in puffy
- 14:35pastry and then cooked. I'm down. Yeah it's KFC cast yep, I'm
- 14:43down. Another KFC story. Worst KFC I've ever been to was in Kentucky.
- 14:48You can't have can't have too many? Really? How is that?
- 14:54I was d We drove through Kentucky. We stopped at a Kentucky Fried Chicken
- 14:58because we were in Kentucky. Not impressed. Yeah, so the the Sbarro's
- 15:05in New York are as bad as anywhere else, just so you know.
- 15:07Yeah, They're awful everywhere. How they exist as a franchise I do not
- 15:13know, but yeah, we had one at the mall. They went out
- 15:16of business. My yeah, I love that part of the office where Michael
- 15:18Scott's in New York. I caught that New York pizza. Meanwhile, in
- 15:26Idaho, the The Olive Garden is voted number one Italian restaurant here every year
- 15:33Italian. Not sure, Yeah, so hey, don't don't. I can
- 15:37tell you try their unlimited soup salad bred stakes. That pretty good. That
- 15:41is pretty good. Oh well, should we get to our main topic.
- 15:46We could just keep talking about food. We could we do that a lot
- 15:50anyway. I'm down with that. Yeah, we absolutely do that. All
- 15:54right, I guess, I guess go ahead. Fun will now come out.
- 16:04I want to share my I want to share my star Trelly experience.
- 16:10Ye, my belly, my big belly, Star Trek the Experience t shirt
- 16:14from Las Vegas Hilton from twenty the day is he started eight April May thirteenth
- 16:23of two thousand and two, is when I got the shirt. I'm going
- 16:27to try to feature a new shirt every every Trek cast until everyone now nice
- 16:33Daniel, he missed. He missed Paul's Yeah, just goes so bad.
- 16:37The program was just about food. Now, So I we have a I
- 16:47have a tote, Scott. I have a tote full of T shirts from
- 16:51Star Trek the Experience, because I was there three weeks before they closed and
- 16:56I just oh, man, eye everything I could get my hands on.
- 17:00Some of them still have the tags on them. I don't think I,
- 17:03oh my wore them. Yeah, yeah, that's shirt. I was a
- 17:07younger man back then and a smaller I was also a smaller man back then.
- 17:11I mean, that's why I'm wearing the shirt over it, because this
- 17:15is a It doesn't exactly cover up my entire stomach. The truth is,
- 17:21the truth is he cut the back. He cut up the back like a
- 17:23hospital gown. There you go, there you go. You know, if
- 17:29truth be told, I'm not going to show you because that'd be awkward.
- 17:32But it's it's got a whole bunch of holes in it from years of being
- 17:36stored in the moths and everything. But yeah, I figured, I just
- 17:41I had one. I had. I wore it forever and eventually it became
- 17:47my yard work T shirt because I didn't want to throw it away, but
- 17:49it was the one where it had KALs on the front and instead of remember
- 17:55those T shirts like twenty years ago, Jesus is my yeah by whatever it
- 18:00said, Kayless is my Kayless is my co pilot. And people have no
- 18:06idea to be like, what the hell is it? What is that?
- 18:08What is it? Collins? What's up? What that guy's head? It's
- 18:14weird. You got a weird religion, dude, Yeah, that's what next
- 18:22time the Mormons come by, that's what you should say. I worship k
- 18:26Chaos. I worship Kayless. Ye all I hear is Payless the entire time.
- 18:34It feels good to kaos the one true warrior shoes at a bargain.
- 18:42You know something I prefer over uh uh Kentucky Fried chicken is Lee's famous recipe.
- 18:52I'm sorry, I'm trying to delay as I can. What's Lee's I
- 18:56don't know Lee's famous. Yeah, it's uh, it's it's probably a local
- 19:00uh or a regional thing. It's it's like Kentucky Fried chicken, only it's
- 19:03good. It's really good. Okay. So have you guys ever been to
- 19:07uh a Denny's. Yeah, not in a long time, not since I
- 19:15was in college. But yeah, yeah, yeah, I going out of
- 19:18business. No, yeah, that's what I heard. I I was watching
- 19:22TikTok and it's like, yeah, I was watching TikTok. One of those
- 19:25videos. Top five restaurants that are going out of business in twenty twenty four.
- 19:29The best thing about Denny's is the side of spite you get with every
- 19:32meal. Son's Denny's hack for anyone who's still does there. The bourbon chicken
- 19:41skillet is delicious and what you can do a lot of people don't realize this.
- 19:45You could tell them before you bring this to the table, could you
- 19:48please dump it off of the skillet and onto a regular plate so I don't
- 19:53have to eat lava for the next twenty five minutes. If you just wait
- 19:57for it to cool down. Nice, You're gonna You're gonna be there all
- 20:00night, right right, and and if you get it with a banana strawberry
- 20:04smoothie twos all the way. I would like to go to waffle I will
- 20:14be testing for my black belt in about a year and then, uh then
- 20:18I think I'll be ready for waffle House. Until then, I'll just stick
- 20:22to the Dennys. Do you know there's a there's an online petition. I
- 20:26forget the game. I think it's techan where they have made jokes that waffle
- 20:30house should be a setting in teching, so you can have a waffle house
- 20:36fighting stage. Nice and like the the guys who run the game are like,
- 20:41yeah, we'll do it if we can get the license. Yeah,
- 20:42that sounds great. There's gotta be like an unlocked tech is still a franchise.
- 20:51Yeah, Tecan is still a franchise, But what they want is the
- 20:53actual logo on there, So I'm sure, right, yeah, all right?
- 21:00So I mean this week's episode, episode six, season five, Whistles
- 21:06Speak Uh. The official log line is, while undercover in a pre work
- 21:10society, Captain Burnham is forced to consider breaking the prime directive when a local
- 21:15language Dan, that's right. Meanwhile, Car tries to Stamas and Adira sets
- 21:23up, uh steps up when Rayner assigns them a position on the bridge.
- 21:29So there you go. I mean, I I liked the episode. I
- 21:34thought it was all right for for what it is. You know, it
- 21:38was well Dan summed up exactly how he felt while you were uh yeah,
- 21:44yeah, give me the synopsis of the episode. I only watched it once
- 21:48it's a lot of foul language, a lot of whistling. I only watched
- 21:52it once and I could not stay off my phone while I was watching it.
- 22:00Same here, it's one of the first episodes of Star Trek where I
- 22:03was playing with my phone while I was watching. Yeah, yep, yep.
- 22:07And because of that, like I can't recall on the top of my
- 22:12head why I didn't like it. I'm gonna have to wait until you guys
- 22:15talk about things and go, oh, yeah, that was garbage, and
- 22:18then I'll tell you. I'll tell you why it's garbage. Yeah. So
- 22:22it's not that I'm unprepared, it's and I just don't care. It's not
- 22:27that I'm lazy that I just don't care. Yeah, I thought it was
- 22:34an interesting To me, it felt the most Star Trek that Discovery has made
- 22:41has been not I mean, that's a low bar, but to me,
- 22:45I mean, it was a mission. They were on a planet. They
- 22:48were there to do something, you know, to figure out the next clue.
- 22:53They interacted with that society at first, they very much tried to stick
- 22:57to the prime directive. It reminded me a lot of when Jane Way would
- 23:03go to planets dance to shaking his head. Now, I don't think it
- 23:10was the best, but I think from what it is, I thought it
- 23:11was all right, you know. To me, it felt like the writers
- 23:18had stumbled up across an episode of Trek cast from two and a half years
- 23:22ago, and they were like, oh, they want more Star Trek like
- 23:27episodes, Well, let's just rehash something Star Trek ish then, And so
- 23:33if they're gonna they're gonna do a prime directive episode. Obviously there's a pattern
- 23:37too, a prime directive episode. First they try not to interfere, and
- 23:41then they try to justify why they should interfere, and then they interfere,
- 23:48right, which, as I mean, that's every that's every I was thinking
- 23:52about Wharf's Brothers episode. I was thinking about the the Archery Vulcan. Vulcan's
- 23:59episode. Uh yeah, where they shot car was no, no, no,
- 24:07they didn't shoot a card pick card let them shoot him. Took a
- 24:11took a shot to the chest to try and do the right thing. Yeah,
- 24:18which is the opposite of what they were doing here. The card is
- 24:23like me, me dying is more important than these people thinking that I'm a
- 24:29god and having it change their society. Forever. So you know what,
- 24:33I'm a responsible Starfleet officer. Shoot me in the chest. Yeah, I'm
- 24:37gonna I'm gonna die to prove this point. Whereas instead this was this was
- 24:42this was the opposite. I know they're not God's It's just a machine.
- 24:49Yeah, Michael Michael burs a God. Yeah. I did like the shout
- 24:57out to the Danobians. I thought that was cool. I saw a meme
- 25:03where it was like, uh, I guess, so we're going to Denbula.
- 25:07No, oh yeah, let's mention them. And then another another example
- 25:18of them. Right when I when I Jesus Christ, I thought they couldn't.
- 25:25I thought they couldn't right themselves further into a corner. Right, that's
- 25:32what I thought. I said, They've written themselves as far into a corner
- 25:33as they could. Nope, Nope, they went even further. This week
- 25:37they said, hey, here's a great idea. Your try quarter. Is
- 25:42it your eyeball. Yes. You don't need to touch anything, you don't
- 25:48need to motion in the air anymore. It's it appears in front of you
- 25:52a heads up display no one else, no one else can see it.
- 25:56You can move the cursor with your eyeball. It's perfect. And then they
- 26:00accidentally take a poison pill before the run. Why didn't you look at it?
- 26:07Yeah, just look at it. Just look at it. I mean,
- 26:14my daughter is four years old and one thing that I have instilled in
- 26:18her is don't put ship in your mouth. You starfleet officers. These are
- 26:26starfleet officers, And it's like, oh, I should I should, I
- 26:30should put this in my mouth. Sure, let me put this. Oh
- 26:33no, I'm joking right right. And they're not even the same species,
- 26:37so who knows how it can affect them. Yeah, apparently they didn't watch
- 26:41that episode of Deep Sace nine where they they poison themselves on Tarak Nora with
- 26:47a a pill. That's what I That's what it reminded me of that.
- 26:51And Okay, so now I'm rummy. I'm running through the woods on my
- 26:56alien death race. All I need, all I needed to cure myself as
- 27:00a drink of water, if I only had a replicator on my wrist to
- 27:08replicate I don't know, some hydrogen atoms, some oxygen atoms, right,
- 27:17just replicate them right in your mouth, the most basic substance in the universe.
- 27:26It's so bad. Maybe maybe the replicators can't make food. They can
- 27:30make phasers, but not food or water. During the race scene, I
- 27:33thought it was they can make hydrogen, and they can make oxygen, they
- 27:37can make water. Okay, okay, true. I thought it was funny
- 27:41during the race scene that thinking about the person who had to go and fill
- 27:45up all the bowls along the race. Yeah, that's your job. Yeah,
- 27:51does that person get to drink? Yeah? Yeah, exactly, Yeah,
- 27:55because it's heavy carrying water and then especially up a mountain. Yeah.
- 28:00And then right, and and somebody somebody posted in the group they said,
- 28:03the most unbelievable part of this episode is that Tilly won the goddamn race.
- 28:11Yeah, okay, Can I come to her defense? No, please,
- 28:15Yes, I'm gonna come to Tilly's defense, And then I'll tell you what
- 28:21I think that is feasible because she recently second season. Yeah, we saw
- 28:27a running once in the second season, but she's also at the academy and
- 28:32she's an instructor. Now. I know, she doesn't look like she's a
- 28:36marathon runner. But I saw a lot of people in the military who started
- 28:41out. They would start out a certain size and then they would kind of
- 28:45stay that size, maybe get a little bit smaller, but their athleticism would
- 28:51increase threefold. So it is possible, I think for somebody her size to
- 28:55go from you know, not being able to run to being able to run
- 29:00because you're your your lung capacity, your your your cardiovascular system is going to
- 29:04improve faster than your body shape. Is that's true, I agree to some
- 29:10extent. However, she is racing against a race of people who walk everywhere
- 29:18and she and she has a device in her everyday life where she beams across
- 29:22the room to get a snack. Okay, it's just not realistic. Yeah,
- 29:29sure it's not. Maybe, yeah, maybe we're losing Star's. We're
- 29:37losing them. We're losing them. All we heard was this is what we
- 29:41heard Scotward. Oh no, yeah. I did think the whistling too,
- 29:49is a little bit weird because they're like, oh listen, not that yet,
- 29:53and that played like one time in the beginning, and then that was
- 29:56never brought up again. Yeah that was like okay, yeah, yeah,
- 30:03it was an interesting idea that they they Maybe I misunderstood it, but they
- 30:08have basically two languages, the one they speak to each other and the one
- 30:11they yell across distances. Right, is that kind of more or less all
- 30:17right, But I understood that more as like, okay, when they're whistling,
- 30:19it's more like signals, you know. It's not like, hey,
- 30:23so go take out the trash when I get home, and you're not that
- 30:27in depth, you know, yeah, yeah, yeah. So it also
- 30:33had some allegory to religion. Well it wasn't really an allegory. They straight
- 30:37up said things. Yeah, yeah, this actor looked familiar to me too,
- 30:44the main guy. I don't know where he's from, but I feel
- 30:47like I've seen him in other things. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah,
- 30:51is Scott frozen or is he just sitting really still? I think he's
- 30:53frozen. Yeah, I think he is too. Yeah, and now and
- 31:00that he's going, Oh, I put him away until he moves again,
- 31:04put him away. I put him away. Yeah, that's right. So
- 31:10what did you think of the doctor's holographic grandma. I think it is a
- 31:22natural evolution to the whole EMH project. You would create some sort of therapeutic
- 31:29holograms that that made sense to me. But I think because he made exactly
- 31:36his grandma and he was like, yes, just like talking to her,
- 31:38that I don't think is healthy that's not healthy at all. Right, so
- 31:44that was my one concern. Now, had he created a doctor Frasier Crane,
- 31:51you know, therapist who says I'm listening and let's talk. That makes
- 31:55more sense to me. Yeah, yeah, that was That was kind of
- 32:01disturbing. Yeah, it's right up there with Berkley making his friends. Yes,
- 32:08yes, I think it's worse. Yeah, it is worse. I
- 32:12think it's worse. And the fact that, well, did he tell anyone
- 32:16about it? I don't. I don't recall he was reporting to somebody.
- 32:21He's like, oh, yeah, the program is working like this, and
- 32:24yeah he gave a quick report. It kind of makes me think about the
- 32:30I don't know if you know about these things. They make therapeutic chatbots nowadays,
- 32:35where you can talk to it and it responds back to you, okay,
- 32:38and it's supposed yeah, like they're free programs that people use, and
- 32:42they've even had ones now that are relationship based, so you could have a
- 32:47texting relationship with your digital girlfriend. And what's even worse is they use AI
- 32:55so that she can send you photos. Oh god. Yeah, that is
- 33:00a real thing that you can download on apps right now, and it's the
- 33:06equivalent in my book, oh strungber ay there, Oh no, never mind.
- 33:14So yeah, it's not healthy. It's not healthy. It's not healthy
- 33:20at all. No, you guys, not to sound judgy, but it's
- 33:28weird. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's weird. I I did like
- 33:36though that, you know, the doctor is like, look, I'm confused
- 33:39by what I'm feeling right now after going through this experience. So I don't
- 33:44know how to tell Paul like that to me is real because sometimes you go
- 33:46through things and you're like, look, I don't even know what I'm how
- 33:50to feel right now, but something's going on that I didn't you know that
- 33:54I liked there is Hey can you hear me? Yeah? Yeah, yeah,
- 34:00yeah, okay, sorry about the super unprofessional Yeah, thank you.
- 34:07Yeah, I'm Scott's strongbeerd boutters. These are my co host, Dandy Daniel.
- 34:15Yeah. And then we had the right Yeah. Oh, I was
- 34:19gonna ask Scott real quick, uh what did you think of the uh the
- 34:24e g H. The holographic grandma. Yeah, the emergency holographic grandma.
- 34:30That is not healthy, right, Yeah, I mean I can imagine,
- 34:38like with holographic technology period, I can imagine all therapists like, if you're
- 34:43a you know, somebody who lose your spouse, the first thing a therapist,
- 34:45I would imagine would tell you is don't recreate them. Yeah. Yeah,
- 34:52it's the only thing. Yeah, Like that's awful. Yeah, that's
- 34:55a horrible, horrible form of therapy. I think. I don't know.
- 35:00Yeah, So if your holographic grandma replicates an ill fitting sweater that you hate,
- 35:06do you still have to wear it only when you're out the holiday?
- 35:10Only when you holy? You only have to wear it on Christmas? What
- 35:14are your grandma's here that you can just you wear that sweater and eat KFC.
- 35:20Okay, let's do this. Who would you holographically recreate and spend an
- 35:25afternoon with, let's say, famous people? Not not what am I supposed
- 35:31to say? Jesus, that's right right? It is Sunday, the Lord's
- 35:36Day, famous people. So no relatives unless you want to be unhealthy.
- 35:43Yeah, I don't know. I don't want to know. No bad idea,
- 35:45but famous people. It'd be really cool to talk to Gene Roddenberry.
- 35:52Yeah, that'd be cool and get his take on on this. On Star
- 35:58Trek you believe the ship, Yeah, until you find out he loves Discovery.
- 36:08Okay, Grandpa, Yeah you're going, Oh, they found my secret
- 36:15writings. Yes, exactly what I wanted. How's that DRAPAA dude? Well,
- 36:22yeah, it's on the air, right, I don't I don't know
- 36:32who. I don't know who i'd recreate on the holiday. That's tough.
- 36:38Yeah, that's really tough. I'm gonna go with Tesla. I think it'd
- 36:43be interesting to talk to that guy. He seems like a weird dude.
- 36:46So how fantasy is this? Because we have we don't have any We've got
- 36:52audio recordings of Nikola Tesla, right, I'm sure no video of Nikola Tesla
- 36:59and some rights of his right. Screw it. I know what I do.
- 37:02The Muppets. I'm gonna hang out with the Muppets. Oh yeah,
- 37:07Jim Henson, No, no, no, the Muppets, No, no,
- 37:09the actual Muppets. He's yeah, Father Bear Kermit. Let's all hang
- 37:15out. Let's have a wacky adventure on the holiday. Okay, the Muppets.
- 37:21Yeah, if the computer could figure it out, because, like you
- 37:23know, with with with Tesla, I was thinking George Washington, But how
- 37:27accurate could the computer be with George Washington? We don't know what he sounded
- 37:30like. We don't know what his inflections were, We don't know what kind
- 37:34of accent we had. We don't know, you know, what his speech
- 37:37pattern would be, what his behavioral pattern would be. We've just got these
- 37:40these documents that are you know, old. So that's an interesting thought.
- 37:47I wonder if he did like lose a British accent because he wasn't born in
- 37:53England, right, he was born in the US. No, but British
- 37:57people that live here don't lose their accents that quickly. I don't know.
- 38:02I think about like, you know, my dad has an accent I don't
- 38:07like, yeah, you know, like compared to his right right, well,
- 38:12and some people are more susceptible that, Like, you know, you
- 38:15put me in Minnesota or Florida for five hours and I sound like I've lived
- 38:21there my entire life. You know, I'm like, have you tried this,
- 38:24KFC? Don't you know? It's really good? You know? Wow?
- 38:29Wow? I just I slip right into it. That's right. You
- 38:34can start making cast roles for us and everything. That's right. Yeah,
- 38:39I'll become a Minnesota dad real quick. Yeah, perfect, perfect. Yeah.
- 38:47So well, we've got four more episodes left of Discovery, Dan and
- 38:53I will be seeing the last. Yeah. You know, at first I
- 38:59was I'm disappointed. I'm not gonna be with you guys. But when you
- 39:04and Dan watched this episode, Okay, Daniel, you gotta get some you
- 39:08gotta do a quick reaction, but you gotta get some shots of Dan watching
- 39:13this episode where he's just like, what what? Oh jeez? Wait,
- 39:19yeah, what the what the Oh? This is bull crap. I thought
- 39:23about setting up a camera as we're watching it, the Dan cam, Dan
- 39:29cam. Yeah, yeah, I may have to do that. That sounds
- 39:35great, Actually yeah, yeah, m hmmm. So what else? Did
- 39:40what else happened in this episode? Do we leave anything out? Oh?
- 39:46Wow? What this this guy here on screen? The priest guy? Yeah,
- 40:00the dad and and yes, and his uh child who ran in the
- 40:08race, who wanted to die apparently who wanted to die? And then without
- 40:15any explanation whatsoever, he's using the them pronouns for this person. Where where
- 40:24did that come from? I don't know. Maybe that's did they say they
- 40:31had three genders on that, Yes, three distinct genders, So maybe that's
- 40:37where that came from. They did, Yeah, and she sounded quite proud
- 40:45to say it too. She was like, they've got three distinct genders.
- 40:47I must have missed that, and I just thought only three, all right,
- 40:52Yeah, okay, so I thought, well, all right, I
- 40:54thought the the they then pronouns just came out of nowhere with you were on
- 41:00your shoulder, not paying attention. I was probably on my phone not paying
- 41:04attention. You're right, yeah, you're right, all right. He was
- 41:08checking his only Dan's account. So all right. So in their defense,
- 41:12it's bad writing. It's not awful writing. Go there, you go.
- 41:17I feel like the outfits they wore. The costume is like the same costume
- 41:22they use every time they go to a pre warped civilization. You know what,
- 41:27there's probably rose and rose and rose hangers of earth tones there and they
- 41:31tell the extras just just grab three and put them on, doesn't matter.
- 41:36This is like a shirt shirts and no pants. It's fine, just put
- 41:39them, put the shirt on your lower body. It'll be fine. Yeah,
- 41:44exactly, exactly. Yeah, pre warp means no fashion. Yeah,
- 41:50no colors, no colors. That's just one day. I want them to
- 41:54go to a pre warp civilation that has ed hardy T shirts, just those
- 41:59giant tigers and dragons on there for no reasons. Do you want to see
- 42:05Nelix's home world pre warp? Oh? God, yeah, no, no,
- 42:09I do not. I do not. Well, should we get to
- 42:15uh listener feedback? Because it feels like we've run our course here? Oh
- 42:22wait, we gotta stay. Are one good thing or one good thing?
- 42:29I didn't hate this episode, but I'm like, I didn't hate this episode,
- 42:36but Dan convinced me to. Yeah, I liked it. So my
- 42:42my good thing is I feel like, so far it's the best one of
- 42:45the season. That's a low bar. All Right, I got my,
- 42:52I got my, I got my one good thing, go for it.
- 42:53Uh. Rayner is learning to soften his approach with the crew. He uh
- 43:05his interactions with Adira. He realized that his usual approach is not going to
- 43:12work, and he adjusted his approach. Yeah that's my that's my one single
- 43:21thing. There you go, Scott. Meanwhile, I still just pondering.
- 43:27I'm I'm thinking it took mine. Welcome to trek Ass, everybody. We
- 43:35will make you hate this show. All right, Well you got one,
- 43:40Scott? You want me to go ahead? Okay? I I think it's
- 43:45very cool the way they used their uh what they call the hollow deck that
- 43:49that stage, because they very clearly created a bunch of fake trees, threw
- 43:53some dirt on the ground, and used a giant light all the way around
- 43:58them because they were not outside. Yeah, yeah, that was a good
- 44:04thing. I think it's cool that they can do that, you know,
- 44:07Okay, yeah, you meant they're not outside, Like you could tell they're
- 44:13not outside, Yeah, I could tell, like that was a set that
- 44:15was not a location. Okay. I think part of the reason see going
- 44:22on vacation in a couple months. I've been trying really really hard to lose
- 44:25some weight and to get back into at least somewhat of a shape that I
- 44:31was when I was in the military. And I wasn't a real thin guy
- 44:34in the military either. But I've been doing a lot of walking, some
- 44:38light jogging, and I hate i even when I was in the Army,
- 44:43I hateed running. I hate running, and this episode had a lot of
- 44:45running in it, and I think it just put a bad taste in my
- 44:49mouth. Like I had a lot of running and a lot of thirsty people.
- 44:52I hate being thirsty. I hate running, and they were doing a
- 44:54lot of being thirsty and a lot of running, and as somebody who's been
- 45:00doing a lot of that lately, I didn't appreciate it. So I think
- 45:05why. I know, I'm telling you why I don't can't come up with
- 45:09something I liked. I'm giving an excuse. So while you're while you're exercising,
- 45:15Scott, just a little bit of advice. If someone hands you a
- 45:17mystery pill, don't just put it in your mouth. Okay, why not?
- 45:28There's there's a there's a meme that I've seen of doctor Flocks and he
- 45:32hands somebody like a pill and the patient goes, what is this? And
- 45:37it looks like Flocks and the patient are both taking it? And he goes,
- 45:39We're about to find out. I having to go on this journey with
- 45:45you. That's right. Oh yeah, you guys looking at this picture.
- 45:53I'm looking at this picture you got on the screen. Yeah, lower me
- 45:57too. In the lower right hand corner. That looks pretty much like a
- 46:02early twenty first century Pelican case that's spray painted grain gray and they put like
- 46:08a little thing on it. Yep, Yeah, sounds about right. So
- 46:15I don't know. Props departments still doing their thing. I there you go,
- 46:21I love their relationship. I love uh doctor uh what are their names
- 46:27again? Yeah, Colbert and Stamen and Paul. There's a little bit of
- 46:34tension between them, but not enough to really rock the relationship. I think
- 46:37they're you know, they're they're they're a couple, and I like their I
- 46:42don't know, I kind of like their dynamic. There you go. That's
- 46:45your good thing. That's my good thing. There's yeah, there you go.
- 46:49Good job, good job, Scotty, Scott, can you can that's
- 46:54right? Yeah, you can't like this show too. I was able to
- 47:01kill two birds with one stone on that one. I was I was able
- 47:05to show something that I liked, and I was able to show that I'm
- 47:07not entirely homophobic, so the cross check both entirely. All right, let's
- 47:16let's get to listener feedback, listener feedback. I'm getting canceled. So,
- 47:30I, uh, did you You said you had some emails? Yeah,
- 47:38oh, okay, I think that would have been a perfect time for me
- 47:43to have some technical difficulty. That's right, it would have been. Oh,
- 47:46I'm Scott stepping into Chad's shoes. Quite well, that's just dancing around,
- 47:55just dancing around that line. That's right, that's right. Got an
- 48:00email here again from Zeno Griff. He says, holy moly, thanks so
- 48:07much for reading my email on the show. I had to tell my Treky
- 48:10coworker. So that's awesome. That's cool. If you're ever near in the
- 48:15McComb County area, maybe we can do a meetup. Yeah. I was
- 48:19thinking, you know, if you're at the Grand Rapids Comic Con in November,
- 48:23I want to make a little road trip over there. We can.
- 48:27That's quite a that's quite bigger than the Grand Rapids Comic Con in Kalamazoo.
- 48:31The Grand Rapids Comic Con and Grand Rapids is a it's maybe half the size
- 48:36of the one in Chicago, so it's a pretty big it's a pretty big
- 48:39deal. It's awesome when you guys talk about stuff here, I'm like,
- 48:46I know what he's talking about. Like Zeno's getting excited, like the way
- 48:51I used to get excited, you know, listening to the show because you
- 48:53know, watching Star Trek back in like twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen, and
- 48:57I was really excited about it. None of my other friends were. I'm
- 49:00like, yeah, there's this new show out, and then there's no other
- 49:01new shows come out and they're just like, you're talking about that Trek star
- 49:06stuff again. Whatever. But you know, so Zeno gets it. Let's
- 49:10keep up the great content, Scott. So yeah, thank you. Also,
- 49:15so hold on real quick. Yeah, so, Daniel, this kind
- 49:21of ties back to what we were talking about earlier. Yeah, Scott had
- 49:23no Scott had no friends in twenty seventeen, and we were his holographic friends.
- 49:29That's right, that's right, that's right. Yeah, zero friends.
- 49:34That's not that's not healthy, man, that's not hell. No, Yeah,
- 49:37no friends, no family. Just wow. Zeno sent me another one,
- 49:45say yeah, a Star Trek meet up and suggested maybe a fundraiser for
- 49:50a good cause. That's an interesting idea, and signed it case Scott.
- 49:54So this is I think this person's either last name Scott. I had some
- 50:00friends back in the day named Scott born the same as me. The scottis
- 50:02will rise again. Heck yeah, I like it. Oh, we'll have
- 50:07a Scotti convention. Let's let's meet up at the Grand Rapids Comic Con and
- 50:10have a Scott convention. Scottie gone, We'll have Scotti conn Just go weird.
- 50:20I also got an email from Bronze I have some feedback to go ahead.
- 50:24Oh go ahead, okay, Uh yeah, who's gone? Who's gone?
- 50:30You you go? You go, you go, you go, you
- 50:31go? All right? All right, well this is for both of us,
- 50:34you and me, all right, Bronson says, My wife and I
- 50:37have tickets for the Long Island Convention on Friday and Saturday. Is there a
- 50:42plan to meet up before the convention? We're driving out Friday morning. It
- 50:45would love to meet you guys there. Do you have any plans? We
- 50:49don't have anything concrete yet. We'll be there. You know we're going to
- 50:53be there. Yeah, I know Duval is planning to be there as well.
- 50:58Yes, there's the sam much that we're gonna eat at some point.
- 51:02Can I make a suggestion? Uh no, no, no, no,
- 51:07you may not. You may not. Only those who will be in attendance
- 51:12may make all okay, okay, I see how it is. I see
- 51:15how it is. Yeah, okay, okay. I'm just trying to make
- 51:17things better for you and so you don't make the same mistakes of the past.
- 51:23Ye mistakes. Well, okay, so the last time we did a
- 51:30you guys did a star trek, uh you know, meet up kind of
- 51:32thing, was the Star Trek Chicago. All right, now it ended up
- 51:39turning out okay, but I think like maybe on the Facebook group or something,
- 51:45Dan, you just said, you don't how many concrete ideas or concrete
- 51:49plans make those. Try to find a place a time, unless you're worried
- 51:55about I don't know, opsec or security or something. Just make a place
- 52:00at a time where you guys can all meet up at a restaurant or you
- 52:02know, at the at a hotel or something that way. Something that way
- 52:06people can make plans because like when I went to Chicago, I'm like,
- 52:09are you guys getting together? And you're like, maybe, right right,
- 52:15yeah, we should probably do that. I've got the convention website. Yeah,
- 52:21but yes, we will be there. We will. We will.
- 52:23We will make something. Daniel and I will make some plans, and we
- 52:28will post those plans in several places for everyone to see. I've got a
- 52:35web meeting with the convention on Tuesday. It's me and all the other podcasts
- 52:39that are going to be there. They're gonna so after that, I should
- 52:45have more answers as to what's going on. So okay, awesome, you're
- 52:50almost making a sound legit. We're trying. We're trying, try it.
- 52:55Yeah, we're getting I'll do my best. Yeah, I'll do my best
- 53:00during during that week and control you guys as much as I possibly can,
- 53:02as you should, as you should, as you should. I will make
- 53:07my presence known, That's right. And uh, make sure you guys,
- 53:09if you're if you're going to be following us along on the social media during
- 53:15that convention, because we will have updates as to what we're doing, when
- 53:21we're doing it and all that, so either on the Facebook group or the
- 53:24Instagram account, TikTok all that stuff. So I'll be constantly recharging my phone
- 53:30as I update things. Yes, so Daniel, how long have we been
- 53:36doing this show now? Twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen, the end of twenty
- 53:42sixteen, yeah, time. Yeah, I think it was just before Discovery
- 53:46came out. Yeah, yeah, so a number of years now. You
- 53:52know, my my my friends, my regular regular friends, they know that
- 53:55I do this podcast. Yeah. I found out this week that one of
- 54:01them listens, and I've had I had no idea. One of my he's
- 54:07one of my oldest friends. Yeah, Chris Row. I don't know if
- 54:12he's listening right now, but last last Sunday or maybe it was Monday,
- 54:17he texted me and he like quoted something from the show and I was like,
- 54:22you listen? Yeah, yeah, he said, you know, I
- 54:29don't. He says, I don't listen live because you know, he's got
- 54:32stuff going on. But when his son, he says, when his son
- 54:36has soccer games, he listens to the show on his phone while he's watching
- 54:40the soccer game. So that was that was cool. So I wanted to
- 54:44give a shout out to Chris Rowe, one of my oldest buddies. So
- 54:47Chris had friends. You know what, I'm sure your holographic friends listen to
- 54:54the show all the time that anytime you want to bring them on, it's
- 54:59fine. Absolutely. On Friday night, I went and played magic the gathering
- 55:06because I'm that dork, and I got to tell some people that I do
- 55:10the show and so we may have some new listeners. So there, all
- 55:15right, Yeah, very cool. Yeah, anything else you guys wanted to
- 55:20bring up or any other feedback, No, I'm good, I think.
- 55:23Okay, do you have anyone anyone exed up? No, nobody exed up?
- 55:30Well, Chad business in the UK right now? Or who might be
- 55:31flying back. He's probably all over Europe Atlantic. Oh, we do have
- 55:36one feedback from Duval. Yeah, he said that, despite all its flaws,
- 55:39this episode was the most trek episode of the season so far. So
- 55:45there, Okay, So now all they got to do. They've had good
- 55:50episodes and they've had trek episodes. Now all they need to do is combine
- 55:55them and make a good trek episode. That's right. Yeah, yeah,
- 56:00clock's ticking, dude. Oh, they got plenty of they got plenty of
- 56:07times. That's right. But that's the reoccurring theme. We've been for five
- 56:10for five seasons slash seven years. At this point, we've been saying,
- 56:15you know, if they would just do this, it would be good.
- 56:19If they would just do this, it would be good. It's yeah,
- 56:22it's too late. Man. Hey, they're unshackled from cannon again. He's
- 56:29like, we went in the future and this roller coaster. Yeah, this
- 56:35roller coasters on the last lap, I'm counting the loops. Only three more
- 56:38loops and we're done. There we go. Yeah, maybe the finale will
- 56:45surprise us, you know, we might maybe maybe the surprise will be like
- 56:51ha ha, may doing another season. I think one of my predictions early
- 56:53on was that Dan was gonna love this season. Oh, I've been updating
- 57:00our predictions. It's going to be fun. There's a chance. Yeah yeah.
