Latest / Foul Territory / All-Star finalist decisions + Sam Blum on the Angels firing Perry Minasian & hiring John Mozeliak
Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: Sam Blum covers ball for the Athletic great stories all
- 0:07Speaker 1: across the game, but also used to just focus on
- 0:10Speaker 1: the Angels and still definitely keeps himself busy with a
- 0:12Speaker 1: team that's often in the news. You can also hear
- 0:15Speaker 1: somewhat frequently on our Halo Territory show. Sam, Great to
- 0:18Speaker 1: have you on here, Man, appreciate the time. So walk
- 0:21Speaker 1: us through what you just saw over the last few days.
- 0:24Speaker 1: As Perry is out and Moze loc comes in. I
- 0:27Speaker 1: don't think anyone saw that one coming.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks for having me know. It was a shock.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I mean, and they announced it like one hour.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Before first pitch on Friday, you know, pretty classic Friday
- 0:36Speaker 3: night news dump. Yeah, I mean, this was and I'm
- 0:40Speaker 3: awesome curious to get Kevin's perspective on this, just having
- 0:42Speaker 3: played there. But I mean, to me, this kind of
- 0:44Speaker 3: felt like a decision that ultimately was going to be made,
- 0:47Speaker 3: whether it was now or at the end of the season,
- 0:49Speaker 3: probably needed to be made just kind of give them
- 0:51Speaker 3: the overall trajectory of the you know, the team just
- 0:56Speaker 3: you know, in five plus seasons, they really never sniffed
- 0:58Speaker 3: a five hundred record. They constantly dealing with chaotic things happening,
- 1:04Speaker 3: whether it be on the field, off the field, whether
- 1:07Speaker 3: you know, be Perry's fault or not Perry's fault. But
- 1:09Speaker 3: I think, you know, when you're kind of going through
- 1:11Speaker 3: that day after day, year after year, this was necessary
- 1:15Speaker 3: And the reason why I think it did happen now
- 1:17Speaker 3: was a change in leadership from John Carpino, who had
- 1:21Speaker 3: been a longtime president under Ardi Moreno to Molly Jolly,
- 1:23Speaker 3: who has worked for already for decades, but was you know,
- 1:27Speaker 3: promoted into this role. And I think maybe you know,
- 1:29Speaker 3: at least that's how it's been sold here.
- 1:30Speaker 2: It's her, Uh's.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Her show, and she made this call, and you know,
- 1:35Speaker 3: if that is kind of what played out, I would
- 1:37Speaker 3: give her some credit, and I would give the Angel
- 1:39Speaker 3: some credit and hope that they're headed into direction that
- 1:42Speaker 3: they desperately need, which is to give some autonomy to
- 1:45Speaker 3: the baseball operations people and allow them to spend as
- 1:48Speaker 3: they see fit and also just kind of dictate the
- 1:50Speaker 3: culture and leadership as they see fit, which hasn't been
- 1:52Speaker 3: the case for so long.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Yeah, you kind of answer my question. But to answer
- 1:57Speaker 4: your question, yeah, I mean, I don't think anything that
- 1:59Speaker 4: the Angels do is really surprising. The timing of which
- 2:02Speaker 4: they do things never surprising. But that was going to
- 2:05Speaker 4: be my question to you, is you know, his contract
- 2:08Speaker 4: was due at the end of the season. I was
- 2:09Speaker 4: going to ask you, why do you think now was
- 2:11Speaker 4: the timing?
- 2:13Speaker 3: I mean, I think it's the trade deadline and the draft.
- 2:16Speaker 3: My guesses, in my just senses, like I don't think
- 2:19Speaker 3: Molly and maybe even already necessarily trusted Perry to go
- 2:23Speaker 3: through one of those Julys again, which is really the
- 2:26Speaker 3: most important month for any you know, top executive. So
- 2:28Speaker 3: you get to the end of June, this had been
- 2:30Speaker 3: in the works for weeks.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I mean, you know, if you've.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Been to an Angel's game in the last month and
- 2:34Speaker 3: a half, there's been NonStop protests happening. There's been a
- 2:36Speaker 3: lot of you know, uneasiness with the fans. Ironically, they've
- 2:39Speaker 3: actually probably they've played above five hundred baseball since really
- 2:43Speaker 3: early to mid May, so they've not been bad on
- 2:46Speaker 3: the field. But you know, if this has been in
- 2:47Speaker 3: the works for weeks, I would imagine that's kind of
- 2:49Speaker 3: around the time that this all started, and you know,
- 2:52Speaker 3: conversations with John Mozelak and the thing that stood out
- 2:56Speaker 3: to me just from hearing him talk was it was
- 2:58Speaker 3: really the first time in a long time I'd heard
- 2:59Speaker 3: anybody in that position or anyone in leadership with the Angels,
- 3:03Speaker 3: be it kind of a manager or a you know,
- 3:06Speaker 3: a general manager or president just kind of speak freely,
- 3:09Speaker 3: like as if like they're not really worried about getting
- 3:11Speaker 3: fired for saying the wrong thing. And I don't think
- 3:14Speaker 3: he is worried about getting fired for saying the wrong thing.
- 3:16Speaker 3: I mean, he's got a contract that goes to the
- 3:18Speaker 3: you know, Mozille like has his contract goes until.
- 3:20Speaker 2: The end of December or mid December or whatever it is.
- 3:23Speaker 3: And you know, he's done this and he succeeded already,
- 3:27Speaker 3: and I think if it doesn't work, you know, back
- 3:29Speaker 3: to what he was doing before. But if it does work,
- 3:32Speaker 3: you know he can be a hero savior in a
- 3:35Speaker 3: kind of an all time baseball name if you can
- 3:37Speaker 3: fix the Angels.
- 3:38Speaker 5: You said, this is possibly in the works for the
- 3:40Speaker 5: last few weeks, but right before the draft, like, how
- 3:44Speaker 5: does that or are we making too big of a
- 3:46Speaker 5: deal out of what a GM, big league GM does
- 3:49Speaker 5: for the draft and all that, All those eyes have
- 3:53Speaker 5: already been dotted and T's have been crossed for the
- 3:56Speaker 5: draft and it's just a matter of who falls to them.
- 3:59Speaker 3: I think pair he had a huge role in the draft,
- 4:01Speaker 3: probably more than any other GM in baseball, if if
- 4:03Speaker 3: based on what I'm kind of my understanding of it.
- 4:05Speaker 3: So I actually think it's really interesting and maybe that
- 4:07Speaker 3: might be why partially.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Why this is happening.
- 4:09Speaker 3: I mean Tim mcelvain, who runs their you know, runs
- 4:12Speaker 3: their kind of scouting department, as you know, a highly
- 4:15Speaker 3: competent person who maybe was being h you know, I
- 4:17Speaker 3: don't know, I want to say this definitively, but like
- 4:19Speaker 3: kind of maybe wasn't fully is in that role as
- 4:23Speaker 3: he maybe could have been or should have been, So
- 4:25Speaker 3: I you know, I'll be curious. I mean, they just
- 4:26Speaker 3: had the combine last week. I believe Perry was at that.
- 4:29Speaker 3: So yeah, it's it's interesting timing. And if you look
- 4:32Speaker 3: at the way the Angels are drafted over the years,
- 4:34Speaker 3: it's very consistent. Every time under Perry, it was college
- 4:37Speaker 3: players almost universally, especially in this first five to ten rounds,
- 4:40Speaker 3: and then they would kind of pay over slot for
- 4:43Speaker 3: you know, a high school player that may have otherwise
- 4:45Speaker 3: gone to college if they didn't make a significant, you know,
- 4:47Speaker 3: amount of money on their bonus. So one thing I'll
- 4:50Speaker 3: be looking for, especially over the next month, is are
- 4:52Speaker 3: there changes to these strategies right or is this always
- 4:54Speaker 3: kind of an rady thing, like we don't want high
- 4:56Speaker 3: school players early in the draft, or you know, you
- 4:58Speaker 3: gets to the trade deadline, are they going to be
- 5:00Speaker 3: willing to part with the Red det Mes or Jose
- 5:02Speaker 3: Soriano guys who are you know, it's painful to watch
- 5:04Speaker 3: them go someplace else, like you've brought them up and
- 5:07Speaker 3: you're finally starting to see some success with these pictures.
- 5:09Speaker 3: But I think, you know, that was something that Mozilla
- 5:12Speaker 3: said which kind of resonated with me, which is, you know,
- 5:14Speaker 3: already maybe a big baseball fan, and that might be
- 5:17Speaker 3: to his detriment, and you know, just somebody that has
- 5:20Speaker 3: had a hard time recognizing that it's important to make
- 5:23Speaker 3: painful decisions and trade players that you like watching play
- 5:26Speaker 3: and you know, build yourself a farm system that can
- 5:29Speaker 3: actually be sustainable.
- 5:30Speaker 2: So that hasn't really.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Been what, you know, the angels of the way they've operated.
- 5:37Speaker 3: You know, I always felt like they could have got
- 5:38Speaker 3: something back for Kevin Pillar a couple of years ago.
- 5:40Speaker 2: So you know, they like to hold on to guys. Sorry,
- 5:43Speaker 2: I know it's a joke. Sorry, but yeah, now it's
- 5:46Speaker 2: we'll see.
- 5:46Speaker 3: We'll see what happens when they get to these these
- 5:48Speaker 3: kind of inflection points, if if it's going to be
- 5:49Speaker 3: business as usual or if there's going to be changes
- 5:52Speaker 3: to the way they operate. And I think that will
- 5:53Speaker 3: be an indicator to understand just how much of a
- 5:56Speaker 3: role John can have, Mosella can have and actually making this, say,
- 5:59Speaker 3: a functioning operation.
- 6:02Speaker 4: Do we what what kind of person do you think
- 6:04Speaker 4: has to come in? Is there certain a level of
- 6:07Speaker 4: credentials of a GM that Arty would just kind of
- 6:11Speaker 4: hand over the keys too, because we know how controlling
- 6:14Speaker 4: already is and all the decisions that are made, and
- 6:16Speaker 4: obviously it hasn't worked out. Is there a certain type
- 6:19Speaker 4: of person that you think could be hired there that
- 6:21Speaker 4: would get autonomy to make baseball decisions?
- 6:25Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 6:26Speaker 3: I mean, I thought it was in Even if you
- 6:27Speaker 3: go back to when they hired Perry, you know, there
- 6:29Speaker 3: are other more qualified candidates at that time, and you know,
- 6:32Speaker 3: I think when you kind of look back at it
- 6:33Speaker 3: in hindsight, it's easy to think maybe maybe you get
- 6:36Speaker 3: someone you can control a little bit. He kind of
- 6:38Speaker 3: isn't gonna, you know, color outside the lines of the
- 6:43Speaker 3: way he the way already thinks. Now that being said,
- 6:46Speaker 3: I think you hired someone here who is in the
- 6:49Speaker 3: contractual situation and in the career and life situation where
- 6:53Speaker 3: he kind of will do this regardless, right, Like, I
- 6:56Speaker 3: don't I think if he I think if Mozaillak finds
- 6:58Speaker 3: that he's not having the author the authority on autonomy
- 7:01Speaker 3: to you know, create an operation here that he thinks
- 7:05Speaker 3: will work, then what's the point in doing it for
- 7:07Speaker 3: I don't. I don't see why he would have any
- 7:08Speaker 3: motivation to continue it. So yeah, I mean, the interesting
- 7:12Speaker 3: thing that came out of the press conference the other
- 7:13Speaker 3: day was that Mozilla said he's never talked already. I
- 7:16Speaker 3: don't even know how that's possible, right, I don't know.
- 7:18Speaker 3: I don't know why he would want to take this job,
- 7:21Speaker 3: which has all of its connotations with it, not knowing
- 7:24Speaker 3: what he was really stepping into with already.
- 7:27Speaker 2: So we'll see.
- 7:28Speaker 3: I mean again, I think it's going to kind of
- 7:30Speaker 3: take some time for everybody to understand exactly what role
- 7:33Speaker 3: he'll have because I don't even I don't know when
- 7:35Speaker 3: they're going to want to hire this gym. I imagine
- 7:37Speaker 3: it'll be before the lockout, that was one thing that
- 7:40Speaker 3: he said, but beyond that, it could it be before
- 7:42Speaker 3: the end of the season. Could it be you know,
- 7:45Speaker 3: after the season, before the lockout? You know, what are
- 7:48Speaker 3: they going to do with Kurtsuzuki's kind of on this
- 7:50Speaker 3: expiring really awkward one year deal, which has been a
- 7:55Speaker 3: weird thing to watch play out all season.
- 7:58Speaker 2: You know, I don't know.
- 7:59Speaker 3: I think that's there's so many things that we'll just
- 8:02Speaker 3: kind of get answered with time. But to answer your question, Kevin,
- 8:05Speaker 3: like I have a hard time believing it until I
- 8:07Speaker 3: see it, just because having been around this for years now,
- 8:10Speaker 3: six seasons, Like, it's very very, very consistent. It's it
- 8:13Speaker 3: is already kind of being a dark cloud over everything
- 8:17Speaker 3: that's done, And I don't know how just making one
- 8:19Speaker 3: personnel change is necessarily the be all end all, but
- 8:23Speaker 3: it's at least a positive step, and that's kind of
- 8:26Speaker 3: how I characterize it for now.
- 8:29Speaker 1: With over thirty five million downloads, seageek is the number
- 8:32Speaker 1: one rated ticketing app and crats there are many many
- 8:36Speaker 1: baseball games on the inventory to check out all summer long.
- 8:40Speaker 1: This is the season now, it is baseball, baseball season.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Not many other options for you sports wise. I know
- 8:46Speaker 1: you can go anywhere you want to go with Seakeek.
- 8:48Speaker 1: There's so many tickets to choose from. But baseball's center
- 8:50Speaker 1: stage now for the next couple months.
- 8:53Speaker 5: School's out. I'm going to watch some baseball games, some
- 8:56Speaker 5: big league games, all in my area, and I want
- 8:58Speaker 5: to know exactly what it looks like. And I also
- 9:00Speaker 5: want the best deal, So I'm looking for the green,
- 9:03Speaker 5: not the red.
- 9:04Speaker 6: That's right.
- 9:04Speaker 1: The green hooks you up with the best deals on
- 9:07Speaker 1: the app. Of course, we have the code it's Territory
- 9:10Speaker 1: ten for ten percent off your next set of tickets
- 9:12Speaker 1: at Sea Gek. That's ten percent off any MLB tickets
- 9:15Speaker 1: with the promo code Territory one zero. Make sure you
- 9:19Speaker 1: click the link in the description of this episode that'll
- 9:22Speaker 1: download the app if you don't have it already, and
- 9:24Speaker 1: you'll have the code automatically added to your account so
- 9:27Speaker 1: that you can use that code later.
- 9:28Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 9:29Speaker 4: See key, Well, someone's got to take the fall. There's
- 9:31Speaker 4: an old saying you can't fire all the players. That's
- 9:33Speaker 4: why managers usually get fired, right but I was going
- 9:36Speaker 4: to ask you follow up. Question two is how do
- 9:38Speaker 4: you think that initial conversation goes. It's interesting that they've
- 9:41Speaker 4: never spoke or they've never met face to face.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean he said they had spoke at all,
- 9:46Speaker 3: So I don't know, I'd be fascinated. I just don't
- 9:48Speaker 3: understand how you work. I mean, in that role such
- 9:51Speaker 3: a critical role for the Angels, and knowing already is
- 9:54Speaker 3: kind of it's not just reputation, it's just the reality.
- 9:57Speaker 3: His word is very much the way it goes there
- 10:01Speaker 3: on there and that is probably true for all thirty
- 10:04Speaker 3: teams to some extent, but I think here it's just
- 10:06Speaker 3: kind of manifested itself, maybe more, you know, more significantly.
- 10:10Speaker 3: And uh yeah, I don't know when what that first
- 10:13Speaker 3: conversation is like. But you know, again, if you go
- 10:15Speaker 3: back and kind of read through every single thing that
- 10:17Speaker 3: John said, I mean, he he kind of indicated it's
- 10:19Speaker 3: going to be his call and like, we'll let already
- 10:21Speaker 3: know how we do this. I don't want to miss
- 10:23Speaker 3: quote him, but that was I think, you know, generally
- 10:26Speaker 3: that quote like we'll let him know, like and I
- 10:28Speaker 3: was like, okay, like, you know, do your thing, man,
- 10:30Speaker 3: like that's that's a good sign if you have a
- 10:33Speaker 3: guy who's who's going to, you know, say this is
- 10:37Speaker 3: what we're gonna do, Like, and that guy has won
- 10:39Speaker 3: a World Series and had a lot of success, I know,
- 10:41Speaker 3: like the end of his tenure in Saint Louis was kind.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Of a weird petering out period.
- 10:45Speaker 3: But I mean he's done it right, Like, he's very
- 10:48Speaker 3: successful in this job. So I'll be curious how much
- 10:51Speaker 3: that actually works, you know, telling already how it's going
- 10:54Speaker 3: to go from here on out.
- 10:55Speaker 5: We'll see, Yeah, obviously we'll see. But John Mozelock is
- 10:59Speaker 5: out GM of the Cardinals and everything we hear they
- 11:04Speaker 5: were behind the times, So did already hire a GM.
- 11:08Speaker 5: I get it. It's not a long term piece yet.
- 11:11Speaker 5: That's behind the times. I get it. He won a
- 11:13Speaker 5: World Series, but as soon as you got your Molina
- 11:15Speaker 5: left there was some inefficiencies at the big league level that, oh,
- 11:20Speaker 5: I guess we're behind the time. Bloom came in and
- 11:23Speaker 5: hired like more staff in the minor leagues. He was behind.
- 11:28Speaker 5: Has mozay Loack spent a year out and learned what
- 11:31Speaker 5: he was behind on since he's been gone.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Well, that's a great question. I think you're I mean
- 11:36Speaker 3: it's a good point. I mean the Cardinals have come
- 11:37Speaker 3: in and immediately stepped into a you know, competitive position
- 11:41Speaker 3: to some extent. And yeah, it's listen, I mean it's
- 11:44Speaker 3: baby steps here with the Angels, right, You're you're getting
- 11:47Speaker 3: somebody that's maybe criticized for being a little behind the times.
- 11:50Speaker 3: But I wouldn't expect, you know, the Angels to go
- 11:53Speaker 3: and hire you know, like a Paul Tamony, right, like
- 11:56Speaker 3: someone that's you know, just got to want to come
- 11:59Speaker 3: in and completely revolutionize everything and make it technologically up
- 12:03Speaker 3: to date. Like it's it's gonna take a little bit
- 12:04Speaker 3: of a process. So you get somebody in place that's
- 12:06Speaker 3: at the very least, like you know, got a track
- 12:10Speaker 3: record and as a serious baseball person.
- 12:12Speaker 2: And it's no, no criticism of.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Parry necessarily, but like you know, again, I don't I
- 12:16Speaker 3: don't think he stepped into this role with any of that.
- 12:19Speaker 3: And I think he had a hard time you know,
- 12:21Speaker 3: manufacturing that among you know, the culture and the organization.
- 12:24Speaker 3: So yeah, I mean again it's it's time will tell
- 12:28Speaker 3: I agree with you, though it's not like they've you know,
- 12:31Speaker 3: it's not like you're hiring someone that's you know, spotless
- 12:34Speaker 3: track record. I mean, they this ended and like I said,
- 12:37Speaker 3: in a somewhat you know, discombobulated fashion there with the Cardinals,
- 12:41Speaker 3: but there's a good reputation there, and I think that
- 12:45Speaker 3: that's a you know, minimal I mean again, everything with
- 12:47Speaker 3: the Angels, Hena has is a grain assault with it,
- 12:49Speaker 3: like it's not this is a.
- 12:51Speaker 2: This is a way way, way way backwards team.
- 12:53Speaker 3: And I kind of looked at them as you know,
- 12:55Speaker 3: similar to like coming into the season is similar to
- 12:57Speaker 3: like the twenty four White Socks and the twenty five Rockies,
- 12:59Speaker 3: not in terms of the record they'd have, but just
- 13:01Speaker 3: because it was it felt like kind of a steep
- 13:04Speaker 3: decline to a point where it became necessary to address it.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Like it was just going to kind of hit that point.
- 13:10Speaker 3: I don't think they were gonna lose other of twenty games,
- 13:11Speaker 3: but I felt like they were gonna have a bad
- 13:13Speaker 3: enough season where it was like, okay, like now you
- 13:16Speaker 3: you need to like just completely change the way you
- 13:18Speaker 3: go about it. And that's what the White Sox and
- 13:20Speaker 3: the Rockies have both done, and you know, maybe this
- 13:22Speaker 3: is that step for the Angels.
- 13:24Speaker 5: And they need to spend money too, because you can
- 13:27Speaker 5: make some easy, quick, sweeping changes if you spend money.
- 13:30Speaker 5: Talk to a GM assistant or a GM before that
- 13:33Speaker 5: that already wanted to hire, and he said, no, I
- 13:36Speaker 5: will not spend money on that, and so they didn't
- 13:38Speaker 5: hire that GM. But my last question is what you
- 13:40Speaker 5: hit on a little bit with the trade deadline, because
- 13:43Speaker 5: it becomes very intriguing since Perry's been gone. If John
- 13:48Speaker 5: can convince him, convince Arty, is it read debtmers? Is
- 13:53Speaker 5: that their biggest piece or is a Jose Soriana Because
- 13:55Speaker 5: now we start looking at their different pieces and say, okay,
- 13:59Speaker 5: these are these viable, big pieces that if he, if
- 14:02Speaker 5: already can be convinced, it could really help the Angels
- 14:06Speaker 5: step forward instead of step back and keeping them.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think they should very seriously consider
- 14:13Speaker 3: trading the I mean those two and Joe Odell. I mean,
- 14:16Speaker 3: these are the players, Like you know, they're not in
- 14:18Speaker 3: position I think to be competitive. I mean maybe more
- 14:22Speaker 3: competitive next year, but I don't think they're like a
- 14:23Speaker 3: playoff team. I don't think the American League is going
- 14:26Speaker 3: to be like this bad next year. I mean, I
- 14:29Speaker 3: just think they they need to stockpile young talent, and again,
- 14:33Speaker 3: Redetmers is kind of at a peak point right now
- 14:37Speaker 3: in terms of his value. We I've watched him pitch
- 14:39Speaker 3: for six years that has been up and down at best,
- 14:42Speaker 3: I mean more downs than ups, And right now he's
- 14:45Speaker 3: pitching I think at a pretty elite level. And I
- 14:48Speaker 3: don't know, I mean, is that going to continue?
- 14:50Speaker 2: You'd hope so.
- 14:51Speaker 3: But I think you know that the chance to have
- 14:53Speaker 3: Redetvers for three playoff runs would be super intriguing for
- 14:57Speaker 3: any team, especially ones that are competitive now but maybe
- 15:00Speaker 3: have holes in the rotation.
- 15:01Speaker 2: I mean, Jose Soriano.
- 15:02Speaker 3: I think teams might look at the Angels and say,
- 15:05Speaker 3: we can we can figure this guy out because his
- 15:08Speaker 3: stuff's all there. And I know his last you know,
- 15:10Speaker 3: month and a half two months have been not very
- 15:12Speaker 3: good at all. But he was the best pitcher in
- 15:15Speaker 3: baseball in April and unto early May. So there's a
- 15:17Speaker 3: lot there's there is a chance to I think you know,
- 15:19Speaker 3: they didn't trade show Hey Otani in twenty twenty three,
- 15:21Speaker 3: and that would have been in a franchise altering return.
- 15:23Speaker 3: But I mean, I think you can make a case
- 15:25Speaker 3: the Redebtmers would be just as valuable as like a
- 15:27Speaker 3: Terrek schoobl in this markets because he's got those three,
- 15:30Speaker 3: you know, three runs, and you know he's pitching at
- 15:32Speaker 3: such an elite level and has stayed healthy. So knock
- 15:36Speaker 3: on wood, right, But like that that, I think there's
- 15:39Speaker 3: just so much value in what they have right.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Now, and this is the time. I mean, this is
- 15:42Speaker 2: the time to pull.
- 15:43Speaker 3: The trigger and do a real rebuild that I don't
- 15:46Speaker 3: think we'll take as long as maybe people assume it would.
- 15:48Speaker 3: I mean, if you make those types of trades, you
- 15:50Speaker 3: can you can get good in one two max like
- 15:54Speaker 3: three years if you if you do things the right
- 15:55Speaker 3: way and spend as you said, I mean that's gonna
- 15:57Speaker 3: be another big thing spending, and you know, not just
- 16:00Speaker 3: on the free agent mark, I mean everywhere everywhere in
- 16:03Speaker 3: the organization, but I think particularly in bringing in players
- 16:06Speaker 3: again that can supplement the young talent that they hopefully
- 16:09Speaker 3: bring back in these trades.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Sam, question for you, because I know you've been in
- 16:14Speaker 1: the interview room many times to go back and forth
- 16:17Speaker 1: and ask questions to Perry, how did you see things change?
- 16:22Speaker 1: And I think it's safe to say deteriorate over the years. Right,
- 16:26Speaker 1: He's got young energy baseball family comes into the mix,
- 16:30Speaker 1: and we all knew you were going to deal with
- 16:32Speaker 1: some restrictions. He's not stupid, I'm sure he knew, right.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I mean, let's just use you can use a million
- 16:37Speaker 1: examples in terms of facilities, and you know what Ardie
- 16:40Speaker 1: Moreno allows with players. But even like haven't drafted a
- 16:43Speaker 1: high schooler higher than the fifth round since twenty twenty, Like,
- 16:46Speaker 1: just punting on high school prospects.
- 16:48Speaker 6: Is wild to me.
- 16:49Speaker 1: The Orioles did that with international prospects for years. But
- 16:52Speaker 1: in terms of how he answered questions, that's my question
- 16:56Speaker 1: to you, is you know, the air conditioning situation with
- 17:00Speaker 1: and then just questions in general about the state of
- 17:02Speaker 1: the team and like the delirious positivity and not connecting
- 17:07Speaker 1: with the fans. So curious how all of that took
- 17:09Speaker 1: a toll on him and how that might affect the
- 17:12Speaker 1: next person coming in to me. I'm like, whether it's
- 17:14Speaker 1: Mazaylack long term or someone else, it's got to be
- 17:16Speaker 1: someone that can actually come into a press common to
- 17:19Speaker 1: be like, yeah, I think artis too much of a fan.
- 17:20Speaker 6: Like he basically said that the other day.
- 17:22Speaker 1: You need someone that's going to come in there and
- 17:23Speaker 1: be like, I don't give a crap if I get
- 17:25Speaker 1: fired tomorrow, I'm going to tell it like it is
- 17:27Speaker 1: and not act like I'm all frozen and answering very politically.
- 17:31Speaker 6: Did you feel that way?
- 17:32Speaker 3: Yeah, and it never I mean, you know, it's I
- 17:34Speaker 3: don't always put that on already.
- 17:35Speaker 2: I mean that like Perry could have just leveled with people.
- 17:39Speaker 2: In my opinion, he just never would.
- 17:40Speaker 3: And it was I just felt like the deterioration is
- 17:43Speaker 3: you characterize it.
- 17:44Speaker 2: I think it's a good word.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Because it just felt like it was this building desperation
- 17:48Speaker 3: and this like like it became impossible to sell this
- 17:51Speaker 3: to the fans, and yet that was still his he
- 17:54Speaker 3: felt like he had to. And I mean it was
- 17:57Speaker 3: the air conditioning. But the one that really stood out
- 17:58Speaker 3: to me was after last season, while they fired Wash,
- 18:01Speaker 3: his contract expired but they didn't pick up his option,
- 18:03Speaker 3: and they said it wasn't because of his health.
- 18:05Speaker 2: They said it was because he was his performance jop performance.
- 18:09Speaker 3: And I said, okay, well, like if you can evaluate
- 18:11Speaker 3: everyone else's job performance, how would you assess your own?
- 18:14Speaker 3: And he was like that's a question for someone else.
- 18:16Speaker 3: I mean, I mean, I don't know about you guys.
- 18:18Speaker 2: I've ate hr you know.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Required you know, valuate self evaluations every year. I think
- 18:23Speaker 3: anybody should be able in that position to be able
- 18:25Speaker 3: to like self evaluate and it's a very important part
- 18:27Speaker 3: of the job. And I don't know if that was
- 18:29Speaker 3: really going on at any point, and I just trying
- 18:32Speaker 3: to it always felt like it was a sales.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Job more than actually doing the job.
- 18:36Speaker 3: And yeah, it just like it got it got harder
- 18:39Speaker 3: and harder and harder to sell it, and he continued
- 18:43Speaker 3: to just not level with people and like when you
- 18:45Speaker 3: when you're losing like ninety nine games in a season,
- 18:48Speaker 3: or you're you know, just kind of falling apart year
- 18:51Speaker 3: after year at the same time and in the same way,
- 18:53Speaker 3: and yeah, like what why not just kind of say
- 18:56Speaker 3: we need to do this a little better, and this
- 18:58Speaker 3: is where we're failing and this is what needs to it.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Just I think fans started to get really sick of it,
- 19:03Speaker 3: and Parry would have would have had much more of
- 19:05Speaker 3: the benefit of the doubt over these last couple of
- 19:06Speaker 3: years from that fan base. I I think if he
- 19:08Speaker 3: felt like if they felt like he was being honest
- 19:10Speaker 3: with him. And I can tell you as in my role.
- 19:12Speaker 3: I didn't feel like I was getting honest answers almost
- 19:15Speaker 3: at every single turn. So you know, hopefully, like you said,
- 19:18Speaker 3: this next guy feels like he has the authority and
- 19:21Speaker 3: the autonomy to be honest, and if he doesn't, then
- 19:24Speaker 3: I guess we'll just go and do something else.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Yeah, it felt like Abbott and Costello. Sometimes. We had
- 19:30Speaker 1: a good time, you guys, dude respect Yeah, because it
- 19:35Speaker 1: was entertaining. I felt bad. Perry is well liked for
- 19:38Speaker 1: years and all of that, and I mean, we have
- 19:39Speaker 1: a show. I have a job to do, Right, I'm
- 19:41Speaker 1: going to talk about what someone did well and not well,
- 19:43Speaker 1: and that included speaking, but his speaking tone changed a lot.
- 19:46Speaker 1: So yes, you guys did have you know, entertaining back
- 19:50Speaker 1: and forth. But it's not like like you were just
- 19:52Speaker 1: asking questions. And the reason you had to keep firing
- 19:55Speaker 1: was you can't give like two word answers and then
- 19:57Speaker 1: throw it right back to the reporter. It's that's just
- 20:00Speaker 1: not professional.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Yeah, and I would say this for Perry, like, you know,
- 20:04Speaker 3: I I like the first especially the first couple of
- 20:06Speaker 3: years of covering that team, Like I felt like it
- 20:08Speaker 3: was much different. You know, I was remembering back in
- 20:11Speaker 3: like twenty twenty three, there was a doubleheader.
- 20:13Speaker 2: That in between or I guess after the second game
- 20:15Speaker 2: that was when.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Shoey O'tani you know, blew out his arm and I
- 20:18Speaker 3: had a red eye flight to New York. And that
- 20:19Speaker 3: was also the day that Mike Tratt was announced he
- 20:21Speaker 3: was missing the rest of the season. And I land
- 20:23Speaker 3: in New York City and I had missed this whole
- 20:24Speaker 3: press conference, all these things, and I had a misscall
- 20:26Speaker 3: from Perry with a nice voicemail saying, if.
- 20:28Speaker 2: You need any help with anything, just call me back.
- 20:30Speaker 3: And like, he's a good guy, I think, and I
- 20:32Speaker 3: think he wants to help, and I think he wanted
- 20:34Speaker 3: to be more helpful. But you know, just the way
- 20:36Speaker 3: it played out over the last several years, it just
- 20:39Speaker 3: like got to a point where like my job was
- 20:42Speaker 3: going to know what no matter what, was going to
- 20:44Speaker 3: conflict with what his goals were.
- 20:46Speaker 2: And that just played out as it did.
- 20:49Speaker 3: So I hope he lands on his feet and you know,
- 20:51Speaker 3: has you know, more success in his career beyond this team.
- 20:55Speaker 1: I mean, Kratz and Polar played a long time, and
- 20:57Speaker 1: you guys probably saw this with managers when a manager
- 21:00Speaker 1: would come in sometimes for the first time and he
- 21:01Speaker 1: looks all fresh and young, no brinkles and everything, and
- 21:05Speaker 1: then it's like two years later, it looks like he's
- 21:06Speaker 1: ten years older.
- 21:07Speaker 6: To me, I felt like that happened.
- 21:09Speaker 1: I mean, Perry looks good, but I just feel like mentally,
- 21:12Speaker 1: a job like that can really take a toll. It's
- 21:13Speaker 1: a lot of losing, it's a lot of obstacles to overcome.
- 21:16Speaker 1: So great job covering it, Sam, I know it's not easy.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Appreciate you stopping by as always, and we'll talk.
- 21:21Speaker 6: To you soon.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Thanks for having me. Guys, take care.

- 21:41Speaker 7: I like watermelon, and I don't like watermelon. I'll go
- 21:44Speaker 7: raspberry and it helps me to get my citrus salt in.
- 21:48Speaker 7: But if I do, it helps me to get back
- 21:50Speaker 7: to normal, feeling good and ready to go the next day.

- 22:30Speaker 6: Voting is open to decide you're all star starters.
- 22:34Speaker 1: This is round two and this will decide things because
- 22:37Speaker 1: now we narrow it down from most positions to two
- 22:39Speaker 1: and then we'll get.
- 22:40Speaker 6: To the outfield as well.
- 22:41Speaker 1: If you need help on your ballots, then we have
- 22:43Speaker 1: two former Big leaguers who watch games every day in
- 22:45Speaker 1: Aerocrats and Kevin Poulard to help you. So, guys, we're
- 22:48Speaker 1: going to go down the line. We will start with
- 22:50Speaker 1: the American League and we'll go position by position, and
- 22:53Speaker 1: you tell me who deserves to be the All Star starter? Okay,
- 22:57Speaker 1: and if you need to back it up, you get.
- 22:59Speaker 2: The name before you give the names.
- 23:02Speaker 4: What's your guys take on the All Star voting? By
- 23:04Speaker 4: the way, because I'm not in favor of it, I like,
- 23:07Speaker 4: I think it should be a certain percentage of the
- 23:09Speaker 4: voting because obviously there's times where guys get voted in
- 23:13Speaker 4: and I don't think it's the right guy. I think
- 23:16Speaker 4: the fans should have a say, but I also think
- 23:18Speaker 4: that there's deserving guys. Obviously, market size plays a factor,
- 23:21Speaker 4: So before we got into it, I just want to
- 23:23Speaker 4: know what your guys' stance is, because I'm not a
- 23:25Speaker 4: huge fans should have the entire you know, starting lineup vote.
- 23:30Speaker 4: I think it should be a part of it.
- 23:33Speaker 5: For the starters, for the starters. I'm not against it
- 23:37Speaker 5: because it is for the fans. It's a fan fest game.
- 23:42Speaker 1: So it's funny, you know, we talk so much right
- 23:46Speaker 1: now about oh, it's not fair the big market teams
- 23:49Speaker 1: get everything like this should be the classic example of
- 23:52Speaker 1: small market fans saying, hey, there should be a better,
- 23:54Speaker 1: more weighted system here, right there are less humans playing
- 23:57Speaker 1: to what KP is saying in certain markets, so sometimes
- 24:00Speaker 1: we do see a team dominate and this year this
- 24:03Speaker 1: plays right into what we're saying here with Toronto. I mean,
- 24:06Speaker 1: the Blue Jays have a player at almost every position
- 24:09Speaker 1: as a finalist, they have the entire country of Canada voting,
- 24:12Speaker 1: they had an awesome, magical ride last year.
- 24:14Speaker 6: And KP.
- 24:15Speaker 1: For me, I'm a balance of mostly your first half
- 24:18Speaker 1: year and then sprinkle in what happened, especially in the
- 24:21Speaker 1: second half in the postseason, because there's some guys that
- 24:23Speaker 1: might be off to an okay start in the first
- 24:25Speaker 1: half and then they never get to be an All Star, Right,
- 24:27Speaker 1: So it's not just the award for who plays well
- 24:29Speaker 1: in the first half of the season in my mind.
- 24:31Speaker 1: So let's get to the voting because this will help
- 24:33Speaker 1: to explain what we're talking about here. Let's start a catcher,
- 24:37Speaker 1: Say Langeliers is an option, Alejandro Kirk is an option
- 24:41Speaker 1: who missed like a good chunk of the first half
- 24:43Speaker 1: of the season. I'm guessing we can just move on
- 24:45Speaker 1: quickly on here, right.
- 24:47Speaker 4: Yeah, But I think that's also the point too, you know,
- 24:49Speaker 4: I think fans should have a say, right, But considering
- 24:53Speaker 4: the fact that Kirk missed so much time this year,
- 24:55Speaker 4: and theoretically the Canadians could vote Kirk in who's been
- 25:00Speaker 4: in one Ay three and has only played a handful
- 25:02Speaker 4: of games this year. So that's where kind of like
- 25:04Speaker 4: the argument I have is, I do think it's important
- 25:06Speaker 4: that fans have a say, but I also think there's
- 25:09Speaker 4: certain people like Shay who is deserving of that honor
- 25:12Speaker 4: to start the All Star Game.
- 25:16Speaker 5: Agree it's Shay. He's earned it. Has he fallen off here? Absolutely,
- 25:20Speaker 5: he has fallen off, but he was also leading the
- 25:23Speaker 5: league and hitting probably not going to happen. He earned it,
- 25:26Speaker 5: Shae Langeleiers.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Okay, so this is going to help play to KP's
- 25:31Speaker 1: argument here. And you tell me how much you factor
- 25:33Speaker 1: in what I'm talking about at first base. Bladdie Junior
- 25:36Speaker 1: in October last year ridiculous. Laddie Junior this year not
- 25:40Speaker 1: his best first half, right, he doesn't have a homer still,
- 25:44Speaker 1: last I checked at home and they've played half their
- 25:46Speaker 1: home games, they're already. Okay, So when it's Laddie Junior
- 25:50Speaker 1: against Ben Rice for first base, how do.
- 25:53Speaker 6: You dissect this, KP?
- 25:54Speaker 1: How much do you take last year into account versus
- 25:58Speaker 1: ben Rice having a signific vagantly better first half than
- 26:01Speaker 1: Bladie this year.
- 26:03Speaker 4: I don't factor in what happened last year in the postseason.
- 26:06Speaker 4: I think clean slate once the year starts. There are
- 26:09Speaker 4: postseason awards, there's second half awards, there's all you know,
- 26:14Speaker 4: you know, first team, second team now, so I'm strictly
- 26:17Speaker 4: about what have you done since opening day to the
- 26:20Speaker 4: you know, the point of when the All Star Game
- 26:22Speaker 4: goes or when the last votes are So to me,
- 26:24Speaker 4: it's a very I mean, look at the numbers. The
- 26:25Speaker 4: numbers don't lie in this scenario, like Ben Rice has
- 26:28Speaker 4: put himself on the map as a bona fide on
- 26:32Speaker 4: pace to be kind of a superstar in this game.
- 26:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it's Ben Rice. And I think if
- 26:40Speaker 5: you would ask players, they would agree with KP. I
- 26:44Speaker 5: don't really care what you did in the what you
- 26:47Speaker 5: did in the World Series. I do like that fans
- 26:50Speaker 5: are getting guys in that did really well in the
- 26:53Speaker 5: playoffs last year because there's no like all playoff team.
- 26:57Speaker 5: So I do like that that's there. But we can't
- 26:59Speaker 5: take it too far. This is a glaring case that
- 27:04Speaker 5: it's Ben Rice. It's Ben Rice today, tomorrow, and the
- 27:08Speaker 5: All Star Game.
- 27:09Speaker 1: But my example also is Ernie Klemen. He got voted
- 27:12Speaker 1: in I like, and he automatically gets in because he's
- 27:14Speaker 1: the le vote leader in general, so he's starting a.
- 27:18Speaker 4: Nice But I also think there's certain times the fans
- 27:20Speaker 4: do get it right. And if you look at the
- 27:22Speaker 4: second base position, I don't think there's anyone more deserving
- 27:25Speaker 4: to start the All Star Game. So sometimes it works
- 27:28Speaker 4: out that way that Ernie just put himself on the map.
- 27:30Speaker 4: He's had a great year but statistically probably the best
- 27:33Speaker 4: second basement in the American League. So they do get
- 27:36Speaker 4: it right sometimes. But there's certain scenarios like we just
- 27:38Speaker 4: talked about, and the thing is too prahps. You know,
- 27:41Speaker 4: as a player too, Let's say Vladdie does get voted in.
- 27:44Speaker 4: You know, how is he going to feel starting that
- 27:46Speaker 4: All Star Game or going to the All Star Game?
- 27:48Speaker 4: You know, knowing he probably is not deserving of being there,
- 27:52Speaker 4: Like he's not necessarily going to say hey, thank you,
- 27:54Speaker 4: but I'm not going to go awkward.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Yeah, And you know, mostly a lot of guys drop out,
- 28:02Speaker 1: a lot of things change right there are there is
- 28:04Speaker 1: a bench, so most of these guys will get in
- 28:06Speaker 1: that we're talking about. But these are the starters and
- 28:08Speaker 1: there might be a number two, especially outfield wise, of
- 28:10Speaker 1: everybody attend. So let's keep moving here. Shortstop, I think
- 28:13Speaker 1: we can go very quickly. Bobby wit Junior against Andre Semenez. Yeah,
- 28:17Speaker 1: we're good, right, Bobby wit Junior, Thank you?
- 28:22Speaker 6: Okay? Next up, third.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Base Kaza Kamoto, who has been awesome, one of the
- 28:26Speaker 1: best signings of the offseason. He is a fun watch
- 28:29Speaker 1: and he has been great at times. I think he's
- 28:31Speaker 1: like keeping the Blue Jays offense alive and hasn't been great.
- 28:34Speaker 6: You've seen a ton of him, KP. You've seen some.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Junior Camonaro, we just spoke about him. How do you
- 28:39Speaker 1: match these two up?
- 28:41Speaker 4: I think both are deserving to be All Stars this year.
- 28:44Speaker 4: I think Kaso Komodo has been incredible. The fact he's
- 28:47Speaker 4: driven in fifty three runs. He's almost got twenty homers
- 28:50Speaker 4: on the year, you know for and yes, he is
- 28:53Speaker 4: a rookie. Even though he's an older guy, he's still
- 28:55Speaker 4: a rookie in this game. I think he has kind
- 28:57Speaker 4: of been the shining light for the Toronto Blue offense
- 29:00Speaker 4: this year, in addition to Ernie Clement. But look at
- 29:03Speaker 4: Cameron Aero's numbers like that is impressive for anyone, especially
- 29:07Speaker 4: a twenty two year old kid.
- 29:10Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, cool story. Akamodos should be an All Star.
- 29:15Speaker 5: I haven't looked at the rest of the Blue Jays.
- 29:17Speaker 5: Obviously they have a lot of people voted in, probably
- 29:21Speaker 5: the most deserving of the guys that are there, and
- 29:24Speaker 5: so that would attest to what what KP is saying.
- 29:29Speaker 5: The fans kind of got it wrong. But good for
- 29:31Speaker 5: the Blue Jays for noticing that there was a baseball
- 29:34Speaker 5: season after your team went to the World Series. But
- 29:37Speaker 5: this is this is Junior's position. Junior should be the starter.
- 29:42Speaker 1: And then I'll just skip us right past Dah Jordon
- 29:45Speaker 1: Alvarez or George Springer. Yeah, we'll take Jordon Alvarez here
- 29:50Speaker 1: on a tear all season long, and he is keeping
- 29:53Speaker 1: the Astros in a wild card spot.
- 29:55Speaker 6: Okay, outfields Pick.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Three, so judges on here trout Byron Buxton, Cody Bellinger,
- 30:00Speaker 1: Dalton bar Show. And yes we know that this list
- 30:03Speaker 1: has injuries. This will end up getting all tweaked around.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Do you guys want to do it where you play well, whatever,
- 30:10Speaker 1: just you pick pick how you want to pick.
- 30:12Speaker 6: Go ahead, Kratzy go first.
- 30:14Speaker 5: I know this is gonna piss, this is gonna piss
- 30:16Speaker 5: kp off. I love the outfielders being the stars. I
- 30:20Speaker 5: don't really care, So I'm going judge Byron Trout. I
- 30:26Speaker 5: need him out there.
- 30:28Speaker 4: I actually don't. I don't disagree with you. I mean,
- 30:32Speaker 4: even with the numbers, even with the injury to Aaron Judge,
- 30:36Speaker 4: his numbers are still worthy of being an All Star
- 30:38Speaker 4: in my opinion. I mean, Mike Trout, you know, could
- 30:41Speaker 4: potentially be the loan representative for the Angels this year.
- 30:44Speaker 4: And you know, I love the idea of Mike going
- 30:47Speaker 4: close to home and Philly and playing an Ulstar game.
- 30:50Speaker 4: Hopefully he's healthy and can play. And Byron Buxton's been
- 30:53Speaker 4: just unbelievable, you know, kind of I don't want to
- 30:56Speaker 4: say comeback story. He's kind of playing up to what
- 30:58Speaker 4: we always thought he could be if he could just
- 31:01Speaker 4: stay on the field. I mean, he is so frigging
- 31:03Speaker 4: dynamic and so good and he's one of the best
- 31:06Speaker 4: players in baseball. So he's deserving. And you know, Cody
- 31:09Speaker 4: Bellinger's you know, probably on that short list to kind
- 31:13Speaker 4: of replace you know, Aaron Judge if he's unable to
- 31:16Speaker 4: go in the All Star Game.
- 31:19Speaker 6: Yep. And Byron Buckston is a superstar. That's what he is.
- 31:24Speaker 1: He's a superstar player. I mean, he's had superstar skills
- 31:26Speaker 1: for a while. He's a superstar. By the way, some
- 31:31Speaker 1: other shoutouts before we get to the National League, Van
- 31:34Speaker 1: Buren in the chat said Miguel Vargus should be an
- 31:37Speaker 1: All Star.
- 31:37Speaker 6: He said kamin Aro should start.
- 31:39Speaker 1: But you know, you're getting people just shouting out some
- 31:41Speaker 1: other names that should belong. And yes, there are definitely
- 31:44Speaker 1: some other names that should belong as finalists on this.
- 31:47Speaker 6: List, but the Blue Jays.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Crowd just dominated. And hey, you're gonna see the National
- 31:53Speaker 1: League where the Braves and the Dodgers have a large
- 31:57Speaker 1: fan base and they showed up big. So let's do
- 32:00Speaker 1: that side catcher first. Drake Baldwin or Will Smith kratz.
- 32:07Speaker 5: Man, I feel like I have to dive into the
- 32:09Speaker 5: numbers more. But I think what Drake did kind of
- 32:13Speaker 5: really set that team. You saw what happened when he
- 32:15Speaker 5: was out. They're struggling now, Like I think I think
- 32:19Speaker 5: it's Drake Baldwin right now. I think I think what
- 32:21Speaker 5: he's doing is on a consistent basis because when he's
- 32:25Speaker 5: out there, I get he's hurt. He was hurt. He
- 32:28Speaker 5: plays dh or he catches, and to be that, you know,
- 32:32Speaker 5: a young star like that, to me, I'm taking Baldwin
- 32:35Speaker 5: right now, even though Will Smith is probably the best
- 32:39Speaker 5: current catcher in the game. But I think right now,
- 32:41Speaker 5: Drake Balwin's my guy for this season MKP.
- 32:44Speaker 6: They both missed time too.
- 32:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree with you. And you know what Drake
- 32:49Speaker 4: was doing early in the year. I think he would
- 32:51Speaker 4: have been in you know, first month or two conversations
- 32:54Speaker 4: for MVP of the National League. Like that's how good
- 32:57Speaker 4: he was, that's how important he was to this team.
- 32:59Speaker 4: Consider the fact that he's, you know, a young kidch
- 33:02Speaker 4: twenty five years old, commanding that pitching staff with all
- 33:05Speaker 4: the injuries that they've had, and not to mention like
- 33:08Speaker 4: like Cratsy mentioned, the days he wasn't catching, he was dhing.
- 33:12Speaker 4: So he was in the lineup every day, right left,
- 33:14Speaker 4: didn't matter, And it was unfortunate he got hurt because
- 33:17Speaker 4: he was off to you know, an incredible start to
- 33:21Speaker 4: this season. But if it comes out of these two
- 33:23Speaker 4: guys a straight bolt win.
- 33:24Speaker 1: To me, Kratz, what about getting some Philly players in there.
- 33:28Speaker 1: So Bryson Stotts on this list against Ozzie Albies and
- 33:32Speaker 1: for stop. The numbers aren't necessarily pretty, but you went
- 33:34Speaker 1: over the other day. The Crutch numbers are better, and
- 33:36Speaker 1: Philly fans are going to try to get some of
- 33:38Speaker 1: their guys in.
- 33:39Speaker 5: Absolutely, but I think the guys that they're going to
- 33:41Speaker 5: get in are going to be Bryce and Stott. I
- 33:43Speaker 5: think it shows you, you know that they definitely enjoyed.
- 33:47Speaker 5: But they definitely enjoyed, you know, what he's putting out there.
- 33:50Speaker 5: They like his efforts, so they're voting for him. But
- 33:52Speaker 5: that's Alb's spot. And Philly's gonna have enough guys with
- 33:56Speaker 5: two possibly three pitchers going in, and they also have
- 33:59Speaker 5: the you know, Schwarburn, Harper have to go. They have
- 34:03Speaker 5: to go. You can't not have them in Philly for
- 34:07Speaker 5: the home run derby.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Yeah, and KP. I also forgot first base. I skipped
- 34:11Speaker 1: right past it. But Freddy Freeman and Matt Olsen in
- 34:14Speaker 1: that matchup. No, Bryce Harper, he didn't finish as a finalist.
- 34:18Speaker 4: I'd have to see the numbers, obviously. I'm I love
- 34:21Speaker 4: both of those guys. I mean, you know, Freddy's probably
- 34:25Speaker 4: gonna be a Hall of Famer. Matt Olson's probably on
- 34:27Speaker 4: pace to potentially be a Hall of Famer. But I know,
- 34:30Speaker 4: you know, I watch a little bit more Braves than
- 34:32Speaker 4: I do Dodgers at this point in my life. And
- 34:35Speaker 4: Olsen's a good friend of mine. I think he's probably
- 34:38Speaker 4: the more deserving guy if you kind of look at
- 34:40Speaker 4: some of the numbers in terms of like ops and
- 34:42Speaker 4: slug and you know, driving and runs homers. But you know,
- 34:46Speaker 4: Freddy's as consistent as they are. I mean, right here,
- 34:50Speaker 4: I don't think you can make a bad choice, But
- 34:51Speaker 4: if I had to choose, I'd pick Matt Olsen.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Okay, we'll go to shortstop, bring and keep moving here.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I can take this one. C J Abrams against Mookie Bets.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Mookie Bets is not having a great year. Up until
- 35:03Speaker 1: the last what week or two. C J Abrams has
- 35:06Speaker 1: been so damn good, continuing what he was doing last year,
- 35:09Speaker 1: getting better on defense, getting much better on offense, to
- 35:12Speaker 1: write more play discs, playing more pop. I mean, he's
- 35:14Speaker 1: been one of the reasons why the Nationals are relevant
- 35:16Speaker 1: this year. So that's an easy one, right guys. For
- 35:19Speaker 1: a shortstop, we'll go c j Abrams over Mookie.
- 35:22Speaker 6: BET's good. Okay, yeah, and I'm.
- 35:23Speaker 4: Just looking in the chat too. You know this is
- 35:25Speaker 4: where you know, once again in my argument with the
- 35:27Speaker 4: fan vote is think about a guy like Auto Lopez
- 35:29Speaker 4: probably probably deserving to be and maybe the final two
- 35:34Speaker 4: guys to be starting the All Star Game with the
- 35:36Speaker 4: numbers he's put up this year. But obviously Miami much
- 35:39Speaker 4: different market than LA but more than likely Auto Lopez
- 35:42Speaker 4: will be an All Star. But cj. Abrams has been,
- 35:45Speaker 4: you know, pre special this year.
- 35:48Speaker 6: Max Munsey or Alec Bohm, thank.
- 35:52Speaker 5: You, both have been flawed.
- 35:54Speaker 6: Both have been flawged.
- 35:55Speaker 5: But Max's flaws have been the fact that he just
- 35:59Speaker 5: wasn't on the field all the time, right like Alec
- 36:03Speaker 5: was flawed. He was playing, so there's value to that,
- 36:06Speaker 5: but no Max. I think Max was leading the team
- 36:09Speaker 5: in home runs. I'm not sure if he still is,
- 36:10Speaker 5: but Max months.
- 36:12Speaker 6: He's had a pretty good year.
- 36:13Speaker 1: KP To the outfields, Andy Pai has, Brandon marsh Ronald Lacunya,
- 36:17Speaker 1: Taskar Hernandez, Juan Soto and Michael Harris are on the
- 36:20Speaker 1: list right now.
- 36:24Speaker 4: I mean, I definitely think Andy Pai Haes is deserving
- 36:26Speaker 4: to be there. I think Brandon Marsh is deserving to
- 36:28Speaker 4: be there, you know, and considering the fact that the
- 36:31Speaker 4: game is in Philadelphia, I think the Philly fans need to,
- 36:34Speaker 4: you know, go extra heart trying to get Brandon Marsh
- 36:37Speaker 4: to start that game. You know, it's kind of been
- 36:39Speaker 4: just kind of a revelation season for him what he's
- 36:42Speaker 4: been able to do. You know, in terms of Ronald l'cunya,
- 36:47Speaker 4: you know, hasn't been on the field enough for me.
- 36:49Speaker 4: Tae Oscar's missed a lot of time, Michael Harris has
- 36:51Speaker 4: had an unbelievable year. He's kind of been in out
- 36:53Speaker 4: of the lineup too. I know Jan Soto's missed some
- 36:57Speaker 4: time this year too, So I mean, but when you
- 36:59Speaker 4: look at that over all numbers, it's probably got to
- 37:01Speaker 4: be one soda mm hmm.
- 37:05Speaker 5: Yeah. This is where the fans got it wrong. Taoscar
- 37:07Speaker 5: should not be up there. As much as I love
- 37:09Speaker 5: Taoskar as a player, as a person, like awesome, awesome, dude,
- 37:14Speaker 5: he shouldn't be. He shouldn't be in that final voting.
- 37:16Speaker 5: And this is where somehow it needs to be tweaked.
- 37:19Speaker 5: But I am not the one smart enough to tweak it,
- 37:22Speaker 5: and to me, it's got to be Pajes Marsh and
- 37:25Speaker 5: Wan Soda.
- 37:28Speaker 1: No, Michael Harris love, he's got the same baseball reference Horisota,
- 37:32Speaker 1: but he's way behind him on the bat on the Yeah,
- 37:34Speaker 1: I love I.
- 37:36Speaker 4: Love Michael Harrison, but he's had an incredible season two.
- 37:39Speaker 4: He's just had a little bit of you know, miss
- 37:41Speaker 4: some time with some injuries this year. But to your point, Kratzy,
- 37:45Speaker 4: where my argument is, could the players and the managers
- 37:49Speaker 4: have a little bit more say when it comes to
- 37:52Speaker 4: the most deserving people, but then you get the fans
- 37:55Speaker 4: to kind of vote on that, right. I think that's
- 37:57Speaker 4: where potentially you could have the input of the fans
- 38:01Speaker 4: of saying, hey, it is it is for the fans.
- 38:04Speaker 4: We want the best players in the game, and we
- 38:05Speaker 4: also want the fans to see who they want to
- 38:07Speaker 4: see play. But it should be within some parameters of like, hey,
- 38:12Speaker 4: he Crow Armstrong's not on that list. And I know
- 38:14Speaker 4: Chicago's a big market and they probably just haven't done
- 38:17Speaker 4: a great job of you know, the people of Chicago
- 38:20Speaker 4: haven't done a great job you know, voting for him.
- 38:22Speaker 4: But I do believe that there's a way that the
- 38:23Speaker 4: fans could have their input, but it maybe is in
- 38:26Speaker 4: these parameters of these players.
- 38:29Speaker 5: All right, well, I would say I like your idea
- 38:31Speaker 5: because it's creative. Did you see who the players picked
- 38:35Speaker 5: as the best player in the game last year Player
- 38:37Speaker 5: of the Year?
- 38:40Speaker 4: It was that wasn't show Hay because there's or Aaron Judge,
- 38:44Speaker 4: because there's always a player bias. So yeah, I do
- 38:46Speaker 4: understand that.
- 38:48Speaker 5: Like until show Hey stops doing one of the things
- 38:52Speaker 5: that he's doing, he's the best player in the game.
- 38:54Speaker 5: So players can get it wrong too, But I just
- 38:56Speaker 5: feel like there's something like how many games has Tao played?
- 39:00Speaker 5: Like I don't I didn't look it up. I haven't
- 39:02Speaker 5: looked up the stats yet. But when this comes out
- 39:05Speaker 5: and they go, okay, he's played this many games. Sorry,
- 39:09Speaker 5: like we're just I know he got some votes, but
- 39:12Speaker 5: we're gonna just easily just delete it and then you
- 39:15Speaker 5: move the next person up because he hasn't played like
- 39:18Speaker 5: Ale Hunter Kirk shouldn't be on there. He got some votes,
- 39:21Speaker 5: delete it, next person up. That's yes, maybe Dylandingler.
- 39:26Speaker 4: Dylandingler is the guy who should be on that list.
- 39:29Speaker 4: He said an incredible year at the catching position. But
- 39:31Speaker 4: once again it's That's what I'm saying. There's not a
- 39:34Speaker 4: perfect way of doing it. It is a flawed system.
- 39:37Speaker 4: But I also was never an All Star, and I,
- 39:41Speaker 4: as much as it would have been cool to be
- 39:43Speaker 4: like voted in by the fans, if I was undeserving,
- 39:45Speaker 4: it would have felt weird, like if I was super deserving,
- 39:48Speaker 4: like I believe Ernie Clement was super deserving and the
- 39:50Speaker 4: fans voted in him, you know, that's a accomplishment for him.
- 39:54Speaker 4: But I do think there's guys that are deserving, like
- 39:58Speaker 4: the Dylan Dinglers of the world. Wouldn't it be cool
- 40:00Speaker 4: for him to see his name up there against Shay
- 40:01Speaker 4: and then like you have the baseball world of fans
- 40:05Speaker 4: kind of vote on who they would like to see
- 40:07Speaker 4: go to the All Star Game or I like that.
- 40:11Speaker 5: I like that, But KP, I was a four time
- 40:14Speaker 5: All Star. Okay, you just don't have to say you were.
- 40:17Speaker 5: You were never a big league star. I was a
- 40:20Speaker 5: four time All Star. We need to know what league
- 40:22Speaker 5: it was in. Four time All Star.
- 40:25Speaker 4: That's true.
- 40:26Speaker 5: It's true.
- 40:27Speaker 1: There's little League All Stars out there, so we're really
- 40:29Speaker 1: expanding the pool if we keep going down.
- 40:30Speaker 5: Right right, everybody gets a trophy.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Guys.
- 40:34Speaker 6: Yeah, there's a song. You can just sing it and
- 40:35Speaker 6: then you're an All Star.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Tao had fifty one games played, by the way, two
- 40:40Speaker 1: hundred four played appearances, so and we're at eighty something games,
- 40:43Speaker 1: so he's missed almost half the first half of the year.
- 40:47Speaker 6: One catcher we didn't bring up, who you know, should get.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Some All Star consideration, but he's there's so many people
- 40:52Speaker 1: in front of him, so he probably won't be there.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Shae Langleiers and Dylan Dingler definitely belong. Carter Jensen has
- 40:58Speaker 1: a nineteen game hitting streak with the Kansas City Royals.
- 41:01Speaker 1: He's a rookie. They talked about how I mean he's
- 41:03Speaker 1: hitting theo all fields, clutch situations, hitting left, these hitting righties.
- 41:08Speaker 1: The broilers are loving what they're seeing for him. I mean,
- 41:10Speaker 1: he got famous early this year KP for missing his
- 41:13Speaker 1: alarm and being late to the party there one time.
- 41:16Speaker 1: But otherwise it sounds like he's been a great teammate
- 41:19Speaker 1: and a really really promising catcher.
- 41:22Speaker 4: Let me tell someone this is kind of a parlay
- 41:24Speaker 4: with the Jazz comments, like you make some mistakes and
- 41:28Speaker 4: then you just make up for those mistakes and you
- 41:30Speaker 4: never give the team a reason not to send you
- 41:33Speaker 4: down or write you off again. Like all he's done
- 41:35Speaker 4: since that moment he talked to the media, he answered
- 41:38Speaker 4: the questions, he moved on from it, and always continued
- 41:40Speaker 4: to do is hit and ball out. And it's okay
- 41:44Speaker 4: when you come up to have like a little bit
- 41:46Speaker 4: of immaturity, but as as you're there longer, you're supposed
- 41:49Speaker 4: to evolve and grow and not let it happen again.
- 41:52Speaker 4: And he's been nothing but you know, spectacular, to the
- 41:55Speaker 4: point where we're even considering, we're throwing his name in
- 41:57Speaker 4: the consideration to be an All Star. At that position,
- 42:03Speaker 4: I have to just.
- 42:04Speaker 5: Make sure that he wake up on time. If the
- 42:06Speaker 5: All Star Game is at night, she probably make it
- 42:09Speaker 5: on time. But on that you know, I have to
- 42:12Speaker 5: tell him because Sally, he's an All Star. And if
- 42:14Speaker 5: I go to All Star Games harder he good.
- 42:17Speaker 4: He can play an All Star games.
- 42:19Speaker 6: Yeah, but maybe no red carpet, Red carpet too early.
- 42:24Speaker 4: That guy should be an All Star too true,
