- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello everyone and welcome back to the Hammer Territory Podcast.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is episode 465. My name is Brad Roland coming
- 0:11Speaker 1: to you on a Sunday evening. It's really almost Monday
- 0:14Speaker 1: morning at this point, early October. I'm joined by Scott Coleman. Scott,
- 0:18Speaker 1: the Atlanta Braves put together a nine-inning pitching performance that
- 0:22Speaker 1: was memorable and it did it without Chris Sale. How
- 0:25Speaker 1: are you, my friend?
- 0:26Speaker 2: Hello, Brad. Yeah, for all of the conversation in the
- 0:30Speaker 2: last 24 hours about Who's going to pitch? Is it
- 0:32Speaker 2: going to be Chris Sale? If it's not going to
- 0:34Speaker 2: be Chris Sale, why is it not going to be
- 0:36Speaker 2: Chris Sale? Who's going to pitch in place of Chris Sale?
- 0:39Speaker 2: All of this talk about Sale, with good reason. But,
- 0:44Speaker 2: the Braves pitched their asses off tonight. It started with
- 0:47Speaker 2: Ray Kerr, who has just cemented himself as an Atlanta
- 0:50Speaker 2: sports legend overnight. Didier Fuentes, out of his mind for
- 0:56Speaker 2: nearly the final four innings. Robert Suarez comes in and
- 0:59Speaker 2: gets a couple of gigantic outs in the middle of
- 1:02Speaker 2: the game. Rysel Iglesias, who had been kind of in
- 1:05Speaker 2: limbo for like 45 minutes at that point, comes in
- 1:07Speaker 2: and gets the final out with like no drama.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I mean, man, what a great win for the Braves.
- 1:12Speaker 2: And after taking, we knew they had to win one
- 1:15Speaker 2: out of two in LA.
- 1:16Speaker 1: They did that.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Now they get to go home. Game three, Chris Sale.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Game four, Tyler Malley. Very much a series. Very much
- 1:23Speaker 2: game on. Right.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I mean, that's the thing. That's the big takeaway. This
- 1:27Speaker 1: is a series. It already was, but it was not
- 1:30Speaker 1: a must-win. We litigated that last night on the show,
- 1:33Speaker 1: but it was as close as you can get. I mean,
- 1:34Speaker 1: if you go down 0-2, no one's feeling like they're
- 1:38Speaker 1: totally dead, but no one's feeling good if they go
- 1:40Speaker 1: down 0-2. So it was a very, very important... game.
- 1:43Speaker 1: And yeah, I mean the pitching, it's the story. I mean, honestly,
- 1:46Speaker 1: I'll still say right now, just in the interest of
- 1:49Speaker 1: being myself, I still kind of wish Chris sale pitched.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I thought that was probably the right decision to make
- 1:54Speaker 1: based on what we had available to us, but it
- 1:57Speaker 1: ended up being right. I mean, I, I kind of
- 1:59Speaker 1: tongue in cheek said on Twitter before the game started,
- 2:01Speaker 1: like if they can win this game without Chris sale,
- 2:04Speaker 1: Walt Weiss is going to look smart. Now, whether that's
- 2:06Speaker 1: the right decision or not, he's going to look smart.
- 2:07Speaker 1: And now look, if you spin it forward and just
- 2:10Speaker 1: say you win game two, you kind of feel better
- 2:12Speaker 1: about it now because Chris sales line up to pitch
- 2:14Speaker 1: on in game three at home, Tyler Malley in game four.
- 2:16Speaker 1: And all right, let's, let's do this thing. But yeah,
- 2:19Speaker 1: I mean, noted playoff ace Ray Kerr is like, it's crazy.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I mean, the fact that he threw six shutout innings
- 2:25Speaker 1: in the last two appearances that he has thrown as
- 2:28Speaker 1: the opener slash starter, like that's legendary stuff. And to
- 2:33Speaker 1: get eight outside of him and then did your Fuentes
- 2:38Speaker 1: got 11 outs tonight. 11. And he almost got 12.
- 2:44Speaker 1: He was one strike away from closing this game out
- 2:47Speaker 1: with four consecutive shutout innings. He retired 11 guys in
- 2:50Speaker 1: a row before a home run with two strikes. And
- 2:54Speaker 1: he's 21 years old. And yeah, he had kind of
- 2:56Speaker 1: a shaky series against Philadelphia. So for him to get redemption,
- 3:00Speaker 1: you see what the upside is. I think people that
- 3:02Speaker 1: didn't know Didier Fuentes has worked before now. Now they
- 3:03Speaker 1: see it. He was completely dominant in that outing tonight.
- 3:06Speaker 1: And they used six pitchers. Ironically, two of them barely
- 3:11Speaker 1: did anything. You know, Dylan Lee got a couple of outs.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Grant Holmes got a couple of outs. But six pitchers
- 3:19Speaker 1: to use to get 27 outs. We did say this
- 3:22Speaker 1: last night. I mean, I think we both thought, at
- 3:24Speaker 1: least I thought, I thought Sale was going to pitch today.
- 3:27Speaker 1: When I went to bed last night, I thought it
- 3:28Speaker 1: was going to be Sale today, most likely. But we
- 3:30Speaker 1: did acknowledge at the end of last night's show, hey,
- 3:33Speaker 1: if you don't have Chris Sale, and you know that,
- 3:36Speaker 1: you have to just spam your high leverage relievers. They
- 3:39Speaker 1: all have to be available. They all have to pitch.
- 3:42Speaker 1: And credit to Walt after I ripped, I ripped him
- 3:44Speaker 1: pretty good yesterday for the way he handled the bullpen.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I think he handled it as well as he could
- 3:48Speaker 1: have today. He was as aggressive as he could have been.
- 3:50Speaker 1: You got guys who are, you know, someone was making
- 3:52Speaker 1: a joke about this, but Robert Suarez makes $ 15 million
- 3:55Speaker 1: a year pitching in the fifth inning. Like there was
- 3:58Speaker 1: no fooling around today. They treated it like a playoff game.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Like it was a must win game and it worked.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It worked credit to Walt. And you know, now it's funny. It's, it's,
- 4:07Speaker 2: you're kind of damned if you do damned, if you don't,
- 4:09Speaker 2: but now that, Now that they have lined this up,
- 4:11Speaker 2: where Sale is going to get an extra two full
- 4:14Speaker 2: days of rest to pitch in Game 3, that's how
- 4:17Speaker 2: he pitched all year long, that's how we want Chris
- 4:19Speaker 2: to be pitching, and then you're also going to get
- 4:21Speaker 2: an extra day of rest for Tyler Malley in Game 4,
- 4:23Speaker 2: which is not a small thing. By accomplishing what you
- 4:27Speaker 2: accomplished tonight, you have turned this series upside down. If
- 4:31Speaker 2: you don't win one of these two games in L.A., Sure,
- 4:34Speaker 2: there is a world you could win games three and four,
- 4:36Speaker 2: and you go into an elimination game five, and you
- 4:38Speaker 2: see what happens, and maybe the ball bounces your way,
- 4:41Speaker 2: and you shock the world, but if you went down
- 4:43Speaker 2: 2-0 tonight, for all intents and purposes, the season was over,
- 4:47Speaker 2: and the Braves found a way to do it. The
- 4:49Speaker 2: offense continues to try to kill us. We'll eventually get
- 4:52Speaker 2: to the struggles and frustrations, a bad night for Ronald
- 4:56Speaker 2: Acuna Jr., and really just, other than Michael Harris, there
- 4:59Speaker 2: just was not a whole lot of good going on
- 5:01Speaker 2: tonight offensively, but Again, credit to all of the pitchers
- 5:05Speaker 2: who came out tonight. Even Dylan Lee, yeah, he gave
- 5:09Speaker 2: up those two base runners that Robert Suarez had to
- 5:11Speaker 2: come in and clean up, but Dylan got a couple
- 5:14Speaker 2: of big outs with runners on base. It really was
- 5:17Speaker 2: a collective effort from the pitching staff tonight, and you
- 5:20Speaker 2: just cannot shower enough praise, I think, especially on those
- 5:23Speaker 2: three of those guys, Ray Kerr, Robert Suarez, and Didier Fuentes. Right.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I mean, nine innings of work for the six guys
- 5:32Speaker 1: out of the bullpen. I mean, one of them started,
- 5:34Speaker 1: but they're all relievers and six hits, three walks, nine strikeouts.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Like if that's if that's one pitcher that does that,
- 5:43Speaker 1: we're just we're lauding that we're lauding them.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:46Speaker 1: It's that's a that's a two year for the game.
- 5:48Speaker 1: It's with good peripherals and everything else that you want.
- 5:51Speaker 1: And it was put together. It was strange. I have
- 5:55Speaker 1: a group text with what I would say are some
- 5:57Speaker 1: normie Braves fans who were often confused about what was
- 6:00Speaker 1: going on in the game. Like, what's going on here?
- 6:01Speaker 1: Why is Ray Curry coming out of the game? All
- 6:04Speaker 1: the things we were talking about last night. But, you know,
- 6:08Speaker 1: credit to everybody that pitched. I mean, other than Grant Holmes,
- 6:10Speaker 1: you can make an argument for everyone was pretty good
- 6:12Speaker 1: at some point, even Dylan Lee, like you just sounded out.
- 6:15Speaker 1: So pitching was certainly the story. Michael Harris is really
- 6:18Speaker 1: the only offensive player that I want to give a
- 6:22Speaker 1: large bit of flowers to at the top of the podcast.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Three hits, a couple of extra base hits for Michael
- 6:28Speaker 1: in this game. He wasn't totally alone. If you want
- 6:31Speaker 1: to find some positivity for the offense outside of Harris,
- 6:34Speaker 1: the Braves did draw eight walks tonight. That's a pretty
- 6:38Speaker 1: good sign generally for this offense. Blake Snell was willing
- 6:41Speaker 1: to give some free passes away to begin the game,
- 6:43Speaker 1: but it was Michael Harris and a couple of little
- 6:47Speaker 1: things here and there, and that was enough to scratch away.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Three runs is not enough to beat the Dodgers all
- 6:51Speaker 1: the time, it was enough in this particular game.
- 6:54Speaker 2: It was thankfully, thank goodness. Otherwise this would be a
- 6:56Speaker 2: very different podcast, Brad Roland, but yeah, I mean, the
- 6:59Speaker 2: Braves had runners on all over the place and this
- 7:02Speaker 2: could have been a different ball game. I mean, as
- 7:04Speaker 2: we were getting deeper and deeper, you started to, at
- 7:06Speaker 2: least in the back of your mind, it creeps in like, man,
- 7:09Speaker 2: the Braves have left a lot of runners on base
- 7:11Speaker 2: tonight and you had all the opportunities early to really
- 7:14Speaker 2: get to Snell. And then you had the very, unfortunate
- 7:17Speaker 2: double play from Ronald Acuna Jr. when it felt like
- 7:20Speaker 2: that was also a chance to really slam the door closed.
- 7:22Speaker 2: And yeah, so offense did enough.
- 7:25Speaker 1: We're going to need more.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Hopefully at home, you know, the Braves were such a
- 7:28Speaker 2: good team at home all season long. I don't have
- 7:30Speaker 2: the exact numbers in front of me, but anecdotally, it
- 7:33Speaker 2: feels like they swung the bats a lot better at
- 7:34Speaker 2: home than they did on the road over the last
- 7:36Speaker 2: six and a half months. So yeah, they just did enough.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Shouts to Michael Harris. He was probably the offensive MVP
- 7:42Speaker 2: tonight and they did have some traffic and hopefully that
- 7:45Speaker 2: means that better days.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Are on the horizon. Yeah, they left 11 guys on
- 7:49Speaker 1: base in this game and they won. If you told
- 7:51Speaker 1: me only that coming into the day, it's like, all right, Scott,
- 7:56Speaker 1: all right, Brad, you're going to leave 11 guys on
- 7:58Speaker 1: base today. Are the Braves going to win? Yes or no?
- 8:00Speaker 1: I would have said no.
- 8:01Speaker 3: No.
- 8:02Speaker 1: More often than not, they would have probably lost the game.
- 8:04Speaker 1: But that's why the pitching staff gets all the credit
- 8:06Speaker 1: for the most part other than Michael Harris. But a
- 8:08Speaker 1: team win, though, I mean, all things considered, all joking aside,
- 8:11Speaker 1: like a team win, lots of things had to go
- 8:13Speaker 1: right in this game. And they rolled the dice. I
- 8:16Speaker 1: think it was a risk. to not throw Chris Sale,
- 8:19Speaker 1: it was a risk. And this one, it worked out
- 8:22Speaker 1: for them and they're in a better position moving forward
- 8:24Speaker 1: in the series as a result.
- 8:25Speaker 2: And I have one more big shout out here and
- 8:27Speaker 2: kind of the lead segment. Shout out to Drake Baldwin
- 8:30Speaker 2: behind the plate tonight.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I agree.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Drake was in his bag with the ABS challenges and
- 8:37Speaker 2: not only like late in the game, there were critical
- 8:39Speaker 2: pitches that were not called accurately. And Drake was aggressive
- 8:44Speaker 2: with his challenges. We've talked on the podcast for a
- 8:46Speaker 2: long time and I think fans know The challenges that
- 8:49Speaker 2: this team as a whole has had with ABS, but Drake,
- 8:52Speaker 2: especially late, man, he was dialed in. There were some
- 8:54Speaker 2: close pitches that no one would have blamed him for challenging,
- 8:57Speaker 2: and he did not challenge, and he would have been
- 8:59Speaker 2: wrong if he did. But whenever it counted most, he
- 9:02Speaker 2: was really, really good tonight with ABS and did a
- 9:04Speaker 2: great job with also a much better home plate umpire
- 9:07Speaker 2: than what we had in game one.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Yeah, the home scorecard came out today about yesterday's game,
- 9:14Speaker 1: and we were right to criticize the umpire from yesterday.
- 9:17Speaker 1: by all the numbers that we had available to us.
- 9:19Speaker 1: But yeah, shots to Drake. I've definitely poked fun at
- 9:22Speaker 1: Drake's ABS stuff in the past. He was quite good
- 9:25Speaker 1: in that game. You're right. He also drew three walks offensively.
- 9:29Speaker 1: He's had kind of a rough week, but little signs, patience,
- 9:32Speaker 1: all those things, and a good day for him. And look,
- 9:35Speaker 1: he also gets credit beyond the ABS challenges. When you're
- 9:38Speaker 1: the catcher and you're catching six pitchers over the course
- 9:42Speaker 1: of a game and they hold the Dodgers for two runs,
- 9:44Speaker 1: you get some credit for that. I think the pitchers
- 9:46Speaker 1: get the most credit Drake deserves some credit for the
- 9:49Speaker 1: way things went with the run prevention on the whole.
- 9:52Speaker 1: All right, Scott, there's a lot more to get to
- 9:54Speaker 1: on this game when it comes to decisions that were made,
- 9:57Speaker 1: key moments, frustrations, even in a win. We'll get into
- 10:00Speaker 1: all of that and more first work from our partners
- 10:03Speaker 1: on today's podcast.
- 10:07Speaker 3: The 2026 MLB playoffs are here. And guess what? SeatGeek
- 10:12Speaker 3: has you covered. Let's go. If you're looking to go
- 10:14Speaker 3: to a playoff game, which I know everybody is, your
- 10:17Speaker 3: favorite team, if they're around, Go find SeatGeek. They're going
- 10:20Speaker 3: to find your best seat that you can get. If
- 10:23Speaker 3: that green light is on, that means it's the seat
- 10:25Speaker 3: to go. If it's red, that means no. Guess what?
- 10:28Speaker 3: There's some big teams going. Kratzy, tell us about it.
- 10:31Speaker 1: I'm definitely going to a Brewers game. There's no bad
- 10:33Speaker 1: seats in Milwaukee because the stadium is right on top
- 10:37Speaker 1: of the field. It feels like you're in the grass.
- 10:41Speaker 1: And you know what? If your team lost this year,
- 10:42Speaker 1: go get yourself some concert tickets.
- 10:45Speaker 3: They have it all. And of course, we have a
- 10:47Speaker 3: code for you. You can use code TERRITORY10 for 10%
- 10:51Speaker 3: off your next set of tickets at SeatGeek. That's 10%
- 10:54Speaker 3: off any tickets with promo code TERRITORY10. Make sure you
- 10:58Speaker 3: click the link in the description to download the app
- 11:00Speaker 3: and have the code automatically added to your account so
- 11:03Speaker 3: you can use it later. Go to SeatGeek.
- 11:07Speaker 1: All right, Scott, let's dig in. There was some fireworks
- 11:11Speaker 1: right away. In this one, didn't have to wait very
- 11:13Speaker 1: long for some action in this particular game. The Braves
- 11:16Speaker 1: loaded the bases with one out. Ronald Acuna Jr. had
- 11:19Speaker 1: a rough night, as you mentioned. He did single in
- 11:21Speaker 1: the first inning and stole second. So it went down
- 11:24Speaker 1: from there, but he did participate in the run scoring
- 11:26Speaker 1: early in the game. Matt Olsen drew a four-pitch walk.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Ozzie then worked a very impressive walk, I thought, by
- 11:35Speaker 1: Ozzie standards. And then the guy that we lauded earlier
- 11:38Speaker 1: did have a bad moment. Michael Harris had a bad
- 11:40Speaker 1: moment in this game, and it was the First pitch
- 11:43Speaker 1: swinging pop out in the first inning after back-to-back walks.
- 11:48Speaker 1: I was mad at Michael in that moment, I have
- 11:50Speaker 1: to say. I very much enjoyed Michael. That was a
- 11:52Speaker 1: bad moment for him. But hey, Mauricio Dubon, Captain Clutch,
- 11:55Speaker 1: came through to at least make sure they got one
- 11:57Speaker 1: in the first because that would have been a bad
- 11:59Speaker 1: tone to set if they had not gotten a run
- 12:00Speaker 1: in the first inning.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it was, thank goodness for Dubon. And it was
- 12:05Speaker 2: not exactly a rocket ship up the middle either. It
- 12:07Speaker 2: was just perfectly placed. And thankfully, Dubon was able to
- 12:10Speaker 2: beat it. and beat the throw from Mookie Betts up
- 12:12Speaker 2: the middle. But it just felt good. You know, very
- 12:14Speaker 2: much the formula with Ray Kerr on the mound in
- 12:17Speaker 2: game three of the wildcard round. They gave him an
- 12:19Speaker 2: early lead, and everybody kind of breathes a little bit
- 12:22Speaker 2: better whenever you do put a number up early to
- 12:24Speaker 2: support your pitcher, no matter who it is, and especially
- 12:27Speaker 2: a reliever who's making, what was it, like his 10th
- 12:30Speaker 2: or 11th appearance of the year in the major leagues
- 12:32Speaker 2: this year with Kerr. So good to get a run there.
- 12:35Speaker 2: You would have certainly liked to have scored more. And
- 12:37Speaker 2: I did think the Braves had a really good approach
- 12:39Speaker 2: against Blake Snell. I think they were sitting on that
- 12:41Speaker 2: curve ball that he throws so much.
- 12:43Speaker 1: It's with good reason.
- 12:45Speaker 2: It's a really effective pitch. It felt like they were
- 12:47Speaker 2: working around that and being patient. And as we talked
- 12:50Speaker 2: off the top, if with one of their opportunities, someone
- 12:52Speaker 2: was able to gap a ball, then maybe it's, it's
- 12:55Speaker 2: even a bigger lead than what they're able to give
- 12:57Speaker 2: Kerr early on.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Right. Blake Snell has been hurt a lot the last
- 13:03Speaker 1: couple of years. He's made 20 starts in the regular
- 13:06Speaker 1: season in the last two seasons. His ERA is like 2.1.
- 13:09Speaker 1: His FIPS is almost the same. He's very, very, very
- 13:12Speaker 1: good when he pitches. Now, he's not always the most
- 13:14Speaker 1: economical guy in the world. He doesn't go deep into
- 13:16Speaker 1: games a lot because he does kind of nibble, and
- 13:18Speaker 1: he's not a fun watch, honestly. That's always been the
- 13:21Speaker 1: knock on Blake Snell. Not the most fun guy to
- 13:22Speaker 1: watch pitch, but he is really good. Credit to the
- 13:25Speaker 1: Braves for making him look very ordinary. If you didn't
- 13:28Speaker 1: know Blake Snell was that good, you probably wouldn't have
- 13:30Speaker 1: known it today. He walks five, a couple in the
- 13:33Speaker 1: first inning, etc., That early lead, I would love to know.
- 13:37Speaker 1: There are numbers about it. Almost the science of it,
- 13:40Speaker 1: how does that affect the pitchers when you go out
- 13:42Speaker 1: there and you know you're ahead? There's a little bit
- 13:45Speaker 1: of conjecture in there, but I think you're onto something.
- 13:47Speaker 1: It really helps to have the lead from the outset.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Ray Kerr strikes out Otani and Will Smith right out
- 13:53Speaker 1: of the gate. Ray Kerr is a legend, honestly. I
- 13:58Speaker 1: know I made the The playoff ace joke, but come on, man.
- 14:01Speaker 1: It's unbelievable.
- 14:02Speaker 2: And I love too that Kerr's story has kind of
- 14:04Speaker 2: gone national now. I know that I saw a tweet
- 14:07Speaker 2: that had, you know, like 2 million impressions and engagement
- 14:10Speaker 2: or something like that. Like a lot of people have
- 14:12Speaker 2: learned about Ray Kerr, the incredible story that he had.
- 14:15Speaker 2: I mean, the fact that he, him pitching in games
- 14:19Speaker 2: like this is improbable. Everything we know, right? Like a
- 14:24Speaker 2: guy who doesn't get to the majors until his late 20s,
- 14:27Speaker 2: He has an elbow injury and has surgery when he's
- 14:30Speaker 2: like 30 years old. The success rate of pitchers who
- 14:34Speaker 2: are 30 some odd years old and have not established
- 14:37Speaker 2: themselves in the majors to come back and not only
- 14:40Speaker 2: be effective now, but make two remarkable starts in the
- 14:44Speaker 2: playoffs against the Phillies and the Dodgers is just awesome.
- 14:49Speaker 2: You know, hopefully the Braves have a lot of games
- 14:50Speaker 2: and Ray Kerr is going to continue to get his
- 14:52Speaker 2: moment in the sun, but However long this train goes,
- 14:56Speaker 2: just cannot heap enough praise on Ray Kerr and just
- 14:59Speaker 2: the perseverance that he has shown on both a personal
- 15:02Speaker 2: and professional level to have a moment like he had tonight.
- 15:07Speaker 1: For sure. He's lived a life, and it's just really
- 15:09Speaker 1: easy to root for. I can't remember if it was
- 15:12Speaker 1: Joe Davis. Somebody called him a kid, and I was like, guys,
- 15:14Speaker 1: he's 32 years old. This is not a kid at all.
- 15:16Speaker 1: This guy's been through a lot of things. It's awesome, though.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Definitely.
- 15:22Speaker 1: He's just pitching great. too like it's not smoking mirrors
- 15:25Speaker 1: i'll say like if you didn't know the story and
- 15:28Speaker 1: just watch the guy pitch it's like oh this guy
- 15:30Speaker 1: this guy is good he's got good stuff he's missing
- 15:32Speaker 1: bats and uh it's not fake i'll.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Say um it must be really hard for hitters to
- 15:38Speaker 2: pick him up because nobody looks comfortable in the box
- 15:40Speaker 2: like he you know he said he struck out shohei
- 15:43Speaker 2: otani and and in the two games in the playoffs
- 15:45Speaker 2: and even going back to the regular season no one
- 15:47Speaker 2: looks comfortable up there nobody is hitting the ball hard
- 15:50Speaker 2: against kerr and he has faced some ridiculously talented hitters
- 15:53Speaker 2: in these couple of games. And tonight you can bet
- 15:56Speaker 2: the Dodgers scouted the hell out of his appearance in
- 16:00Speaker 2: the wildcard round, like way more of an advanced scout
- 16:03Speaker 2: than Kerr usually gets whenever he goes on the mound.
- 16:05Speaker 2: And he was able to basically navigate it without any
- 16:08Speaker 2: real drama.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Yeah. The only trouble he really had was in the third,
- 16:12Speaker 1: he gave up a leadoff double. There was a, I
- 16:15Speaker 1: will talk about bunting later. There was a bunt that
- 16:18Speaker 1: was popped up. That was a nice gift from the
- 16:20Speaker 1: Dodgers for a free out. Uh, he did walk Mookie
- 16:23Speaker 1: Betts on four pitches and I thought he looked a
- 16:24Speaker 1: little bit tired. Maybe in that plate appearance, the command
- 16:27Speaker 1: was going a little bit. He stayed in to face Otani,
- 16:30Speaker 1: which made sense because Otani is left-handed and they had
- 16:32Speaker 1: Grant Holmes up at the bullpen. That was a big
- 16:34Speaker 1: out to get Otani in that spot. When you're maybe tired, um,
- 16:38Speaker 1: two guys on base, et cetera, Grant Holmes does come
- 16:41Speaker 1: in and gets out of the inning. There was potential
- 16:44Speaker 1: drama there in the third. And they, uh, they were
- 16:46Speaker 1: able to escape that that way. Also that, that they, uh, Selfishly,
- 16:50Speaker 1: that preserves Ray Kerr's spotless record for the playoffs. His
- 16:54Speaker 1: 0.0 ERA, it's easier to talk about. He didn't allow
- 16:57Speaker 1: a run. A little bit of drama, but he got
- 17:01Speaker 1: out of it. If you get Otani out twice, I
- 17:04Speaker 1: know Otani's been more human recently, but I don't care.
- 17:07Speaker 1: That guy's an alien, so if you get him out twice,
- 17:10Speaker 1: I'm feeling good.
- 17:10Speaker 2: It's the kind of story you tell your grandkids about
- 17:12Speaker 2: one day, if you're Ray Kerr. You know, and I
- 17:15Speaker 2: think you mentioned the walk to Mookie. So that was
- 17:18Speaker 2: just before that Jeremy Hefner went out to the mound
- 17:21Speaker 2: to talk. I think that might've been an intentional, unintentional
- 17:24Speaker 2: walk to get around the righty. And then you go
- 17:27Speaker 2: after Shohei Otani, who's of course a lefty. And that's
- 17:29Speaker 2: a terrifying thought, but then, you know, and then they
- 17:32Speaker 2: went away and they went to Grant Holmes and credit
- 17:34Speaker 2: to Grant Holmes who got Will Smith to swing over
- 17:37Speaker 2: a slider. And in one pitch, they.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Were out of the jam.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:42Speaker 1: So the, the fourth inning was, um, Probably the single
- 17:46Speaker 1: worst ending of the game for the Braves on the whole. Offensively,
- 17:52Speaker 1: Murphy and Baldwin both drew walks. They did chase Blake Snell.
- 17:55Speaker 1: I don't even know if that was good or bad,
- 17:56Speaker 1: given the way that Snell was pitching, but they got
- 17:58Speaker 1: him out of there. Two on two out for Acuna,
- 18:01Speaker 1: who grounds out to end the inning. And through four innings,
- 18:05Speaker 1: the Braves had left seven on base. And I was like, oh,
- 18:09Speaker 1: this is not going well. And then in the bottom half,
- 18:13Speaker 1: old pal Freddie Freeman ties the game with a solo
- 18:15Speaker 1: home run off of Grant Holmes. Um, I don't know
- 18:18Speaker 1: if we talked about this at all. Maybe, maybe Sean
- 18:20Speaker 1: Steven did it. I'm not remembering it. Freddie's been like
- 18:22Speaker 1: pretty bad for about a month. Uh, like OPS of
- 18:26Speaker 1: like 400. He had not had an extra base hit
- 18:29Speaker 1: since September 2nd. That's more than a month from now.
- 18:33Speaker 1: And of course the homers against Grant Holmes. Um, And
- 18:36Speaker 1: then Holmes gave him another single and a walk before
- 18:39Speaker 1: he got lifted from the game. He only got two outs.
- 18:42Speaker 1: You're right. The one in the third was a big out.
- 18:43Speaker 1: So credit to Grant Holmes for that one. He was
- 18:45Speaker 1: the one pitcher that I think you probably can't give
- 18:48Speaker 1: too much positive stuff to this game. I like Grant Holmes.
- 18:52Speaker 1: It was not a great Grant Holmes outing. Yeah, it's tough.
- 18:55Speaker 2: And this Dodgers lineup is so good.
- 18:57Speaker 1: It's so talented. It's so deep.
- 18:59Speaker 2: And, you know, Grant really lives off that slider. And
- 19:03Speaker 2: when a team knows in the postseason that it's going
- 19:05Speaker 2: to be the slider and they've really advanced scouted you
- 19:08Speaker 2: to death, it's going to be even more difficult. So,
- 19:10Speaker 2: you know, credit to Grant. He did get that big
- 19:12Speaker 2: out from Will Smith the inning prior. But, yeah, as
- 19:15Speaker 2: soon as he gave up the homer to Freddie, I
- 19:16Speaker 2: think everybody was like, okay, all right. Like, ideally, you
- 19:19Speaker 2: would have liked Grant to cover maybe another full inning.
- 19:21Speaker 2: But as we knew and as we talked about, it
- 19:23Speaker 2: was all hands on deck tonight. And at the first
- 19:25Speaker 2: sign of danger, You have to change. And credit to
- 19:28Speaker 2: Walt Weiss for recognizing it in the moment and immediately
- 19:31Speaker 2: making the change.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Right. I wanted to get to that, too, because I'm
- 19:37Speaker 1: sure the plan was not for Grant Holmes to get
- 19:39Speaker 1: two outs. I'm sure the plan in the perfect world
- 19:42Speaker 1: was to have Grant Holmes maybe go two or three innings.
- 19:45Speaker 1: And that just wasn't feasible in that spot. And that's okay.
- 19:48Speaker 1: You get out of it. Dylan Lee comes in. I
- 19:51Speaker 1: know we've had our ups and downs with Dylan Lee recently.
- 19:53Speaker 1: He got two huge outs. First and second with one out.
- 19:56Speaker 1: They bring in Muncy, who, as we talked about offline
- 19:59Speaker 1: before we started recording, Max Muncy is just, for whatever reason,
- 20:02Speaker 1: just terrifies me and is always a pain to deal with.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Lee got him out. And got two huge outs basically
- 20:09Speaker 1: to escape that mini drama. It's still one-to-one. It's like,
- 20:11Speaker 1: all right, we should be winning this game. We're not,
- 20:14Speaker 1: but we're not losing.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:16Speaker 1: A couple of big outs from Dylan Lee. And also,
- 20:18Speaker 1: I mean, he stayed in, but, you know, as we'll
- 20:22Speaker 1: get to in a second, there was no extended hook
- 20:25Speaker 1: for anybody. The only guy who had leeway was Didier Fuentes,
- 20:28Speaker 1: I guess. And by the way, he got no one
- 20:31Speaker 1: reach base against him. So it was like, all right,
- 20:33Speaker 1: I guess we're just going to keep going until someone
- 20:35Speaker 1: reaches base against Didier Fuentes.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that was, man, the Braves, it was a tightrope, basically,
- 20:41Speaker 2: from the first inning all the way through the night.
- 20:43Speaker 2: They had to be nearly perfect. And, you know, on
- 20:46Speaker 2: Dylan Lee, this team, if the Braves want to turn
- 20:50Speaker 2: this into a special year, Dylan Lee has to be better. And,
- 20:55Speaker 2: you know, he got into trouble there in the inning.
- 20:57Speaker 2: He issued a walk. I don't think anything was necessarily close.
- 21:00Speaker 2: And then the single he gave up to Otani was
- 21:03Speaker 2: opposite field, just under Austin Riley. I think it was
- 21:05Speaker 2: a 200 expecting batting average. So it wasn't like he
- 21:08Speaker 2: went up and gave up back-to-back just absolute rocket home
- 21:11Speaker 2: runs like he did four days ago to.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper.
- 21:17Speaker 2: But this team needs Dylan Lee to be better. And
- 21:20Speaker 2: Dylan Dodd has been really good from the left side.
- 21:23Speaker 2: And Brent Suter from the left side is more of
- 21:25Speaker 2: like a bulk guy. I'd be stunned if we ever
- 21:27Speaker 2: see Brent Suter in high leverage. But the fact is,
- 21:31Speaker 2: if this team wants to shock the world, take down
- 21:33Speaker 2: the Dodgers, presumably then go see the Brewers, who have
- 21:36Speaker 2: a really, really good team. Brewers are up 2-0 if
- 21:39Speaker 2: folks miss that after a crazy game today. They need
- 21:42Speaker 2: Dylan Lee to be better. And that's something that I
- 21:45Speaker 2: don't know if anyone has a lot of confidence in
- 21:46Speaker 2: right now, but they've got to keep working. Jeremy Hefner
- 21:50Speaker 2: has to keep working with Dylan. They have to look
- 21:52Speaker 2: at the tape. They've got to work that through in
- 21:53Speaker 2: bullpen sessions. I don't know if he's tired. I don't
- 21:56Speaker 2: know if he's if he's hurt and he's pitching through something,
- 21:59Speaker 2: I don't know, but this is not the same Dylan
- 22:01Speaker 2: Lee that was just so incredibly good. The first, however
- 22:05Speaker 2: many months of the season.
- 22:07Speaker 1: For sure. We agree on that. I, you got into it.
- 22:10Speaker 1: I think he was probably better than the results in
- 22:13Speaker 1: this game. Even the walk to bets was literally a,
- 22:16Speaker 1: it was called a strikeout and overturn on ABS. Now
- 22:19Speaker 1: it was the correct call. Obviously you got overturned. It was,
- 22:21Speaker 1: it was ball four, but it was close enough where
- 22:23Speaker 1: it was called a strike in real time. Like he
- 22:25Speaker 1: didn't like embarrass himself. And then the Otani single was like,
- 22:28Speaker 1: all right, what are you going to do? But you're
- 22:29Speaker 1: still right. He's got to be better. A hundred percent.
- 22:33Speaker 1: We should mention the Braves. By the time Lee had
- 22:34Speaker 1: that trouble, I take it in the lead again because
- 22:36Speaker 1: Michael Harris, the offensive hero of the day had a
- 22:39Speaker 1: two out, a two out triple in the fifth, not
- 22:42Speaker 1: exactly obliterated. I would say kind of guided into the
- 22:47Speaker 1: left field corner from Mike, but he can run. and
- 22:51Speaker 1: placed it perfectly, and then a nice little gift, he
- 22:53Speaker 1: scores on a wild pitch as well. We love a
- 22:56Speaker 1: manufactured run, even though it wasn't manufactured by the Braves.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it was all with two outs, and it looked
- 23:02Speaker 2: like the inning, it was two outs and two strikes,
- 23:04Speaker 2: and Mike just kind of threw his bat at a
- 23:06Speaker 2: slider off the zone, and it happened to, I mean,
- 23:09Speaker 2: shouts to Teoscar Hernandez, who is not exactly fleet of
- 23:12Speaker 2: foot in left field, but you know, the ball was
- 23:14Speaker 2: also carrying in a weird way, and it got down,
- 23:17Speaker 2: and then the wild pitch a couple pitches later, so
- 23:20Speaker 2: You know what, sometimes in playoff games, that's what it
- 23:22Speaker 2: comes down to. Can you throw your bat at it
- 23:24Speaker 2: and you get an extra base hit? And then you
- 23:26Speaker 2: get a gift and you take advantage. And it was
- 23:28Speaker 2: just another really good night for Michael Harris, other than
- 23:31Speaker 2: that first inning that we talked about. I think pretty
- 23:34Speaker 2: clearly Mike has been the offensive MVP through five games
- 23:37Speaker 2: so far.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Just has been really, really good in these playoffs. Yeah,
- 23:42Speaker 1: Harris and Albies have just been great. Ozzie's been good.
- 23:45Speaker 1: I mean, they both have... they both have OPSs of
- 23:48Speaker 1: like 1100 plus so far. It's five games, but like
- 23:51Speaker 1: those guys have been awesome. So shouts to them. And
- 23:53Speaker 1: obviously the rally home run was helpful, but, oh, I
- 23:56Speaker 1: will say just, just while we're here, still leading the
- 23:59Speaker 1: team in OPS in the playoffs. You have a guest
- 24:02Speaker 1: based on my tone as to who's leading the team
- 24:04Speaker 1: in OPS.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Mr.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Sean Murphy, everybody.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Sean Murphy, baby. Sean Murphy.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Now I'm just trolling, honestly. I'm not even being serious
- 24:12Speaker 1: right now.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Actually, one quick note on Sean Murphy because weirdly tonight,
- 24:17Speaker 2: so Drake was, of course, catching and Murphy was DHing.
- 24:20Speaker 2: There was a lot of conversation. I think, one, we
- 24:23Speaker 2: saw tonight it's a little easier to rotate and substitute
- 24:26Speaker 2: your DH than it is your catcher. And also, after
- 24:30Speaker 2: catching nine innings on Saturday when it was 108 degrees
- 24:34Speaker 2: on the field at Dodger Stadium, I'm guessing Murph was
- 24:36Speaker 2: a little spent, so I thought that was– at first
- 24:39Speaker 2: it was like, oh, why do they have Drake catching
- 24:41Speaker 2: and Sean Murphy's not a DH? Sean Murphy's a catcher
- 24:44Speaker 2: who can run into one. But I did want to
- 24:46Speaker 2: at least mention that, and it worked out tonight.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that point is the right one about
- 24:51Speaker 1: like if you have Murphy catching, you could pinch hit
- 24:55Speaker 1: for him or pinch run for him if he gets
- 24:57Speaker 1: on base. Then you have to burn your DH, which
- 25:00Speaker 1: means you have to pinch hit every time that spot
- 25:02Speaker 1: comes up because Drake's got a booty catcher, et cetera.
- 25:04Speaker 1: If you have Murphy DH-ing, you can pitch it for
- 25:07Speaker 1: him once with Rowdy Tellez. And the next time through
- 25:11Speaker 1: the order, if you still want Rowdy Tellez at the plate,
- 25:13Speaker 1: you're fine. Whereas if you burn your DH, you have
- 25:15Speaker 1: to use somebody else and somebody else and somebody else.
- 25:18Speaker 1: And Rowdy is back to the ball, by the way. Yeah.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Rowdy hit a ball 107 miles an hour tonight and
- 25:24Speaker 2: then also drew that walk. So maybe there's something there.
- 25:27Speaker 2: I mean, it was– I don't think anyone was really
- 25:30Speaker 2: expecting Rowdy Tellez to be getting important at-bats for this
- 25:32Speaker 2: team in October. But he looked good tonight. He looked
- 25:35Speaker 2: better than Dom Smith, I would say. So, yeah, maybe
- 25:38Speaker 2: it's Rowdy time. Just a specimen of a man. But, hey,
- 25:42Speaker 2: he swings hard. And if he makes contact, he can
- 25:45Speaker 2: hit a ball a long way.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Yes, to say the least. It's a very, very large
- 25:50Speaker 1: individual with some power from the left side of the plate.
- 25:53Speaker 1: All right, Scott, in a second, we'll get into the
- 25:55Speaker 1: rest of the game, plus a look at game three
- 25:58Speaker 1: and more, but after we're from our partners first on
- 26:01Speaker 1: the show today. All right, Scott, as always, Hammer Territory
- 26:06Speaker 1: is a jam of our friends at Fastenal. You can
- 26:09Speaker 1: email foulterritory at fastenal.com for more information. And I will
- 26:15Speaker 1: say in a beautiful way, when Didgeridoo came into the game,
- 26:19Speaker 1: things really almost sped up. He was so dominant that
- 26:24Speaker 1: this game kind of like got into like overdrive. At
- 26:27Speaker 1: least it felt like to me, I wasn't timing things.
- 26:30Speaker 1: But aside from some pitching changes from the Dodgers, it
- 26:33Speaker 1: was like, oh, Didier goes out there. It's one, two, three.
- 26:36Speaker 1: He goes back out there. One, two, three. And again
- 26:38Speaker 1: and again and again. And the Braves did add on
- 26:41Speaker 1: to the lead in the seventh with a Matt Olsen
- 26:44Speaker 1: single and a Michael Harris double. Shouts to Matt for
- 26:48Speaker 1: getting on his horse there. I was a little worried
- 26:50Speaker 1: he couldn't score on that play, but it wasn't even
- 26:52Speaker 1: a play-to-play. Matt was motoring it by math standards.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Yeah, the fastest 45 seconds in sports. Matt Olsen going
- 26:59Speaker 2: from first to home on a ball in the gap,
- 27:02Speaker 2: much to the detriment of Joe Davis in the booth.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Come on, man.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Put a little.
- 27:06Speaker 2: I know he's the play-by-play guy for the Dodgers, and
- 27:08Speaker 2: it's hard to just flip that switch, but, dude, come on.
- 27:12Speaker 2: A little emotion here. Braves don't score that much. When
- 27:14Speaker 2: we score, we need a little oomph from the booth.
- 27:17Speaker 3: Um.
- 27:18Speaker 2: But yes, good to see Matt. I don't even think
- 27:21Speaker 2: the Dodgers really were trying. The ball went into second base,
- 27:24Speaker 2: so if they really hit the relay man perfectly, it
- 27:27Speaker 2: could have been a close play at home. But yeah,
- 27:29Speaker 2: good for Matt, good for Mike. This team really needed
- 27:32Speaker 2: the extra insurance run to go up by two. I mean,
- 27:35Speaker 2: obviously tonight, even more so, knowing what happened with Max
- 27:38Speaker 2: Muncy there in the bottom of the ninth inning. Thank
- 27:40Speaker 2: goodness they were able to get that extra insurance run
- 27:42Speaker 2: and go up 3-1.
- 27:45Speaker 1: We praise Michael a lot already, but that was a
- 27:47Speaker 1: great plate appearance.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Like he, he was, uh, there were two strikes. He
- 27:51Speaker 1: was really battling and, you know, it was probably, I
- 27:54Speaker 1: don't want to overstate it, but it was kind of
- 27:55Speaker 1: an encapsulation of this season where he's just become a
- 27:58Speaker 1: much more, um, I don't know if it's patient. I
- 28:01Speaker 1: don't know if it's like just more mature hitter this season.
- 28:04Speaker 1: It's going to be the right word.
- 28:05Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Just complete. That's a good way to put it. Um,
- 28:08Speaker 1: that was a great plate appearance. And obviously the double
- 28:09Speaker 1: is what matters and what we remember. But, uh, he just,
- 28:12Speaker 1: it was the seventh pitch of the at bat. He
- 28:14Speaker 1: was just in control up there, which was very, very helpful.
- 28:17Speaker 1: And Matt was on his horse. Um, we alluded to
- 28:20Speaker 1: this earlier, but the top of the eighth almost set,
- 28:24Speaker 1: I think maybe you into an early grave and maybe
- 28:26Speaker 1: a lot of our listeners. So the Braves were winning
- 28:28Speaker 1: the game, which is helpful. They were winning, but no
- 28:31Speaker 1: one was comfortable at that point. The aforementioned rally to
- 28:34Speaker 1: Les draws a walk rally gets hit by a pitch
- 28:37Speaker 1: against rookie Sasaki, who was not on his P's and Q's.
- 28:41Speaker 1: I didn't think, um, Before we get to Ronald, you
- 28:45Speaker 1: know I got to talk about the bunt, right? You
- 28:47Speaker 1: know that's coming. I unsurprisingly hated the bunt. What did
- 28:51Speaker 1: you think of Mike Yastrzemski being asked to bunt?
- 28:54Speaker 2: You know, it's funny. Every time we have this conversation,
- 28:57Speaker 2: I say, I'm usually anti-bunt, but in that situation, you're
- 29:06Speaker 2: up 3-1. Even one more run there. The difference between
- 29:10Speaker 2: a 3-1 game and a 4-1 game is gigantic, both Statistically,
- 29:14Speaker 2: like in terms of your win probability, but also just
- 29:16Speaker 2: from a comfort standpoint, the theory of, all right, Yaz,
- 29:20Speaker 2: you bunt him over. Perfect bunt, by the way, from
- 29:22Speaker 2: Mike Yastrzemski there. Credit to him, not a guy who
- 29:25Speaker 2: bunts much. But the theory of surely Drake Baldwin, who
- 29:29Speaker 2: they intentionally walked, and surely Ronald Acuna Jr. can hit
- 29:32Speaker 2: a fly ball somewhere and score Brewer-Hicklin from third to
- 29:36Speaker 2: get an extra run in. I understood the thought process
- 29:38Speaker 2: behind it.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I, it was not in the top tier of
- 29:45Speaker 1: bunts that enraged me. I'll give you that for reasons
- 29:48Speaker 1: that you just laid out, right? Yaz is, well, I
- 29:50Speaker 1: like Yaz and have defended Yaz this season. Not like
- 29:52Speaker 1: an elite hitter. I get that. Um, my, my biggest
- 29:56Speaker 1: thing other than just hating bunts and the fact that
- 29:58Speaker 1: I don't, I think the math doesn't support them. Sasaki
- 30:01Speaker 1: couldn't find the plate. Why are you giving him an out?
- 30:04Speaker 1: What is my other thing on top of everything else?
- 30:06Speaker 1: He had just, he had just walked a guy on
- 30:08Speaker 1: four pitches and then hit it and then hit someone.
- 30:11Speaker 1: And then by the way, I know they walked Drake intentionally.
- 30:14Speaker 1: It was three and O on Drake unintentionally before they
- 30:17Speaker 1: walked him. They, so Sasaki could not find the plate.
- 30:21Speaker 1: And it's like, here you go. Here's a free out Rookie. And, anyway,
- 30:25Speaker 1: it's not, not Yaz's fault. He executed it perfectly. I
- 30:29Speaker 1: wasn't like in a blind rage about it, but I,
- 30:31Speaker 1: anytime I can rant about a bunt, I'm going to have,
- 30:33Speaker 1: I'm going to have to do it.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Yeah. And then we should talk about Ronald Acuna Jr. There.
- 30:39Speaker 2: We have to, he's been bad. He has been capital
- 30:42Speaker 2: letters bad. He's had a couple of hits in the
- 30:44Speaker 2: post season, but they have been largely inconsequential. You know,
- 30:47Speaker 2: a lot of, I mean, he did get that single
- 30:49Speaker 2: in the ninth inning of game one and then came around.
- 30:51Speaker 1: To score on Ozzie's Homer.
- 30:52Speaker 2: But, For the most part, the few times Ronald has
- 30:55Speaker 2: gotten a hit or gotten on base, it hasn't had
- 30:57Speaker 2: a massive impact on the game. But it's not just Ronald.
- 31:01Speaker 2: It's Drake. And I thought Drake had a better night tonight.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Saw the ball well.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Got on base. And Matt.
- 31:07Speaker 2: So you pulled these numbers. At one point, I pulled
- 31:09Speaker 2: the numbers. I think there's something. So Baldwin, Acuna, and
- 31:12Speaker 2: Olsen are something like 9 for 55 in the playoff
- 31:17Speaker 2: so far. And by OPS, Drake is at 484 points.
- 31:23Speaker 2: Acuna is at 485 and Olsen is at 543. The
- 31:30Speaker 2: big three has to be better. And the fact the
- 31:34Speaker 2: Braves are three and two in the playoffs against the
- 31:38Speaker 2: pitching they have seen with Baldwin, Acuna and Olsen all
- 31:42Speaker 2: being sub 550 OPS. And like, it's not like Austin
- 31:46Speaker 2: Riley's hit five home runs or something like there's no one.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Other than Michael Harris and Ozzie, it's not like anybody
- 31:51Speaker 2: else is just out of their mind offensively.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Either to carry the load.
- 31:54Speaker 2: If you'd have just blindly told me a week ago,
- 31:57Speaker 2: through five games, Baldwin, Acuna, and Olsen will all be
- 32:00Speaker 2: sub-550 OPS, I think my response to you would be,
- 32:03Speaker 2: they're not making it five games because this team can't
- 32:05Speaker 2: withstand that trio being so poor at the plate.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's crazy. The fact that they're where they
- 32:14Speaker 1: are with those three guys doing that, And, you know,
- 32:17Speaker 1: they've all three had, like, little tiny moments. Like, they're
- 32:20Speaker 1: not all going 0 for 5 every night. But you're right.
- 32:22Speaker 1: No high liver. I mean, Matt had the one homer.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Drake had a good game today. But, like, I'm looking
- 32:29Speaker 1: at the OPSs right now. Mauricio Dubon had a big
- 32:32Speaker 1: hit tonight. He has a 549 OPS in the playoffs.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Austin Riley had the huge home run, which was huge.
- 32:39Speaker 1: That's why they won that game. Even including that, he
- 32:41Speaker 1: has a 646 OPS in the playoffs. Like, you're talking
- 32:45Speaker 1: about two-thirds of their lineup has been like pretty openly
- 32:48Speaker 1: bad offensively in five games that are three and two.
- 32:51Speaker 1: So on one hand, you're fortunate that that's happened on
- 32:54Speaker 1: the other. You can't, you won't keep winning. I can
- 32:58Speaker 1: promise you that they're not one of the world series
- 32:59Speaker 1: with the, with these OPSs.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Not going to happen.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Sounds like a good problem to fix beginning Tuesday night
- 33:06Speaker 2: at Truist Park against Yamamoto, who is a, another, the Braves,
- 33:10Speaker 2: all they're seeing are just like top end premium, premium talents.
- 33:14Speaker 2: I mean, truthfully, The starting pitching they have seen in
- 33:17Speaker 2: five games so far is ridiculous. It's got to be
- 33:21Speaker 2: up there with like one of the most difficult five
- 33:23Speaker 2: starting pitcher stretches. If you want to especially include Zach
- 33:26Speaker 2: Wheeler in there, who realistically should have started game three
- 33:29Speaker 2: for the Phillies instead. But yeah, they have seen some
- 33:31Speaker 2: absurdly good pitching. The two best pitching staffs in baseball
- 33:34Speaker 2: this year by war. And they've still found a way
- 33:37Speaker 2: to win 3-2 despite everything we know.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, that's well put. We talked about Didier Pliny.
- 33:45Speaker 1: I started making notes like he was going to come
- 33:47Speaker 1: out of the game at the end of the eighth.
- 33:50Speaker 1: I think everyone, including the beat guys, they were in
- 33:52Speaker 1: the building. I think everyone was appropriately surprised when he
- 33:55Speaker 1: was staying in the game to pitch the ninth. Did
- 33:58Speaker 1: you have a problem with that? Were you afraid? Obviously,
- 34:03Speaker 1: he looks so good that it's hard to be super
- 34:05Speaker 1: mad about it, but what did you think about that decision?
- 34:07Speaker 2: I like the idea of Didier going back out there.
- 34:10Speaker 2: I didn't think they were going to do it because
- 34:11Speaker 2: of the stress and the three ups and three downs
- 34:14Speaker 2: that he had done. But he had been so efficient,
- 34:17Speaker 2: the Dodgers were not hitting him. And as long as
- 34:19Speaker 2: Rysel Iglesias was ready to go at the absolute first
- 34:22Speaker 2: sign of danger, I did not hate it.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Where were you at with that? I, yeah, first sign
- 34:32Speaker 1: of danger was appropriate. I would have probably taken him out,
- 34:36Speaker 1: just to be honest. I didn't, but I didn't hate it.
- 34:38Speaker 1: I wasn't like getting my rant together. If things, you
- 34:42Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like the only reason why I
- 34:44Speaker 1: would have taken him out is that he's just, he's
- 34:46Speaker 1: just not used to was last time he threw into a,
- 34:48Speaker 1: into a fourth inning. Like, I know he, I know
- 34:50Speaker 1: he's a starter by trade, but this, he's been a
- 34:53Speaker 1: reliever all year long. Like he's not had that kind
- 34:55Speaker 1: of workload in this spot. Like I was a little
- 34:57Speaker 1: worried that wheels might come off. And he did allow
- 35:00Speaker 1: a home run, but the only reason why I wasn't,
- 35:03Speaker 1: at all bothered is that he had been, it was
- 35:05Speaker 1: literally night up, night down. There was zero drama. He
- 35:07Speaker 1: looked incredible. And if you feel like he has his
- 35:10Speaker 1: stuff still, it's fine.
- 35:13Speaker 2: They also had, let's say that right. So Iglesias goes
- 35:16Speaker 2: out there and you take Didier out and you immediately
- 35:19Speaker 2: go to Iglesias and Iglesias gets in trouble. They had
- 35:23Speaker 2: virtually nobody who you would want anything to do in
- 35:26Speaker 2: a ninth inning as a fallback option. Like you're talking like,
- 35:30Speaker 2: like when Suter or, I mean, Dodd threw all those
- 35:32Speaker 2: pitches yesterday. Dodd would have been down.
- 35:34Speaker 1: He was unavailable.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Victor Medeiros. Suter Medeiros, like Richie. I do wonder if
- 35:42Speaker 2: in the back of Walt's mind, part of his thought
- 35:44Speaker 2: was maybe it's greedy.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Maybe it's reckless.
- 35:47Speaker 2: This is not something Didier has done basically ever all
- 35:49Speaker 2: year long in the bullpen. But if I send him
- 35:52Speaker 2: out there and I have Rysel ready to go, that
- 35:56Speaker 2: was probably a preferable outcome for him. Then, then the
- 35:59Speaker 2: alternative of rice cell goes out there. He runs into trouble.
- 36:02Speaker 2: And all of a sudden, Victor Medeiros is warming up
- 36:04Speaker 2: in the bullpen, which I don't think anybody wants to
- 36:06Speaker 2: see in a close game in the ninth inning of
- 36:08Speaker 2: Dodger stadium.
- 36:10Speaker 1: No. And honestly, earlier in the game, when the Holmes
- 36:17Speaker 1: Lee sequence happened, I was looking at my watch, so
- 36:21Speaker 1: to speak. I mean that figuratively to be like, how
- 36:23Speaker 1: are they going to get these extra outs? because, and
- 36:27Speaker 1: the reality was, it was, Oh, they're going to get
- 36:29Speaker 1: 11 out from Didier Fuentes. That was what happened to
- 36:31Speaker 1: change things. But a lot of people that were, you know,
- 36:34Speaker 1: more analytically inclined, I'm thinking like, are they going to
- 36:36Speaker 1: have to use someone that I don't want them to
- 36:38Speaker 1: use because of what happened with Holmes and Lee? I
- 36:41Speaker 1: was like, are they, are they going to try to
- 36:42Speaker 1: get an, an, an ending from Medeiros or try to
- 36:45Speaker 1: get an ending for Britt Suter or some like, but
- 36:48Speaker 1: the solution was in this particular spot, Didier was just awesome.
- 36:52Speaker 1: And that bailed them out. Um, And look, he allows
- 36:55Speaker 1: the home run to Muncie. That's not, I mean, he
- 36:58Speaker 1: got beat by one pitch. It's not a big deal.
- 37:00Speaker 2: It wasn't even a bad pitch. It was just, I mean,
- 37:02Speaker 2: that's a max Muncie hit that Homer. Sometimes pitchers throw Homer.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Sometimes hitters hit Homer's. That was a max Muncie hit
- 37:10Speaker 2: home run. It was, it was 97, 98 miles an hour,
- 37:13Speaker 2: lower outside third of the plate. Muncie just went down
- 37:15Speaker 2: and got it. If it was a pitch away, it's
- 37:18Speaker 2: a shame that Didier wasn't able to be on the
- 37:19Speaker 2: mound to wrap those four final innings. But, Credit to
- 37:22Speaker 2: Rysell Iglesias who came in and made very quick work
- 37:25Speaker 2: of an, of a talented, but inexperienced rookie who was the.
- 37:29Speaker 1: Final out tonight.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Shostak Iglesias for staying ready. I mean, I saw, it
- 37:37Speaker 1: was weird that it wasn't Iglesias of the night. So
- 37:39Speaker 1: I think there was some like, wait, is, is, is
- 37:41Speaker 1: Rysell okay? Like, cause he hadn't been used and it
- 37:44Speaker 1: was like, no. And then, and then they, they, they
- 37:46Speaker 1: showed him in the, on the broadcast in the bullpen.
- 37:48Speaker 3: Okay.
- 37:48Speaker 1: As long as he's up, and everything he's still moving
- 37:51Speaker 1: around he's still he didn't like hurt himself in the
- 37:53Speaker 1: bullpen or something crazy i had to be very bravesy
- 37:55Speaker 1: if that were to happen uh late in a uh
- 37:58Speaker 1: just bryce was feeling something in his arm in the
- 38:00Speaker 1: in the bullpen um hey it worked out they covered
- 38:04Speaker 1: 27 outs with the bullpen whoo um all right scott
- 38:09Speaker 1: let us take one more break and then let's look
- 38:12Speaker 1: ahead to uh game three and there's a day off
- 38:15Speaker 1: in between so there's plenty to talk about between now
- 38:17Speaker 1: and then but First, let's get a word from our
- 38:18Speaker 1: partners on the podcast today. All right, Scott, unless you
- 38:25Speaker 1: want to talk heavily about anything else from the actual
- 38:29Speaker 1: game in game two, I mean, you could probably do
- 38:32Speaker 1: like your entire Rolodex on the Lane Thomas getting a
- 38:35Speaker 1: start and batting ninth, but we won't do that today
- 38:38Speaker 1: unless you want to. Instead, instead, let's see what's on
- 38:43Speaker 1: deck presented by the folks at the Fox one app.
- 38:54Speaker 1: All right, Scott, the series is it was always moving along,
- 38:56Speaker 1: but now it's moving along in more upbeat fashion for us.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Game three set for Tuesday back in Atlanta. Hopefully a
- 39:07Speaker 1: jam packed Truist Park. Game three, for the record, is
- 39:11Speaker 1: at 6 p.m. Eastern time on FS1 and Fox 1.
- 39:17Speaker 1: I had someone ask me today why it's at six o'clock.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Number one, that's better than two o'clock. So I'll take it.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Number two, it's because the Padres are playing at home
- 39:27Speaker 1: and the Padres are in San Diego. So they're playing.
- 39:30Speaker 1: at like nine, nine 30, something like that. And we're
- 39:33Speaker 1: not gonna do this right right now. Baseball has decided
- 39:35Speaker 1: not to overlap games. So that's why the Braves are
- 39:37Speaker 1: at six and the Padres are at nine 30. At
- 39:40Speaker 1: any rate, our friends at FS1 and Fox one have
- 39:44Speaker 1: the game. Let's take a second now and talk about
- 39:47Speaker 1: a little bit about this. So, We kind of eschewed
- 39:50Speaker 1: the Chris Sale conversation for the most part earlier. The
- 39:54Speaker 1: positive thing is that he's still available for game three.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Walt Weiss got asked about Chris Sale in the pregame
- 40:01Speaker 1: press conference today. He said Sale predictably wanted the ball today.
- 40:06Speaker 1: And basically they had to tell him no. I don't
- 40:09Speaker 1: envy Walt Weiss for having to tell him no. That
- 40:10Speaker 1: would have been an interesting conversation to have with Chris Sale.
- 40:14Speaker 1: But also he got questions about like, is he hurt?
- 40:16Speaker 2: No.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Is he sore?
- 40:17Speaker 2: No.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Great. So I assume Chris Sale is good to go.
- 40:22Speaker 1: He was in the dugout eating sunflower seeds on camera
- 40:25Speaker 1: during the game. Seed to be fine to me. And
- 40:27Speaker 1: with all that behind us now, Chris Sale in game
- 40:30Speaker 1: three at home, I feel pretty darn good about Chris
- 40:32Speaker 1: Sale against anybody. I know Yamamoto is awesome. He's the
- 40:35Speaker 1: opposing pitcher. Yamamoto is a World Series hero in his
- 40:38Speaker 1: own right. I'll take Chris Sale. I'm fine.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Yeah. This was the calculated gamble of all calculated gambles
- 40:46Speaker 2: from the Braves with potentially their season on the line
- 40:50Speaker 2: and to get through tonight with a bullpen game. And
- 40:52Speaker 2: now to be able to give sale two extra days
- 40:55Speaker 2: of rest too, which is not a small thing. Also
- 40:59Speaker 2: in theory, if you were to get to a game five,
- 41:02Speaker 2: we should note. So sale, if he started game two
- 41:05Speaker 2: sale could have probably started game five on normal rest.
- 41:09Speaker 2: That's the way it would have lined up.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Right.
- 41:11Speaker 2: Am I correct? No, no, no.
- 41:12Speaker 1: If it was two.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:14Speaker 2: If it was game two starter, he would have been
- 41:16Speaker 2: on normal rest in game five.
- 41:17Speaker 3: Yeah. Yes.
- 41:18Speaker 1: You're right. Calendars, they're tough.
- 41:20Speaker 2: But because of this now, you have guaranteed that Sale
- 41:23Speaker 2: would not probably start Game 5, although he would probably
- 41:27Speaker 2: be in the mix to pitch an inning or two
- 41:29Speaker 2: or three in some kind of capacity. Carpet for the horse.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Let's win the next two games. We won't have to
- 41:34Speaker 2: think about Game 5. You'll line him up for Game
- 41:36Speaker 2: 1 of the NLCS. But just for all of the
- 41:39Speaker 2: consternation today, it was all people were talking about. Would
- 41:43Speaker 2: Chris Sale start? Would he not start? Why? They have...
- 41:47Speaker 2: gambled correctly and they have given themselves the best chance
- 41:50Speaker 2: to win the series, which is two home games with
- 41:53Speaker 2: your two best pitchers set to go.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, it was a gamble. I already admitted
- 41:59Speaker 1: I didn't, I didn't love it. And I, I, you know, it,
- 42:03Speaker 1: it worked. It's fine. Part of the, part of the reason, well,
- 42:07Speaker 1: I mean, you don't want to look ahead. Part of
- 42:08Speaker 1: the reason is I thought that sale was the best
- 42:10Speaker 1: chance to win today's game, which might've still been true,
- 42:13Speaker 1: but they won anyway. So that's good. The other part
- 42:15Speaker 1: is what you just said. The fact that he could
- 42:17Speaker 1: have maybe started at full capacity two games in the series.
- 42:22Speaker 1: And now he's not going to start game five at
- 42:25Speaker 1: full capacity. Maybe he, look, Chris Dale's a dog. If
- 42:27Speaker 1: they let him pitch game five, if we get there,
- 42:29Speaker 1: he probably could go. It'll be on short rest and
- 42:31Speaker 1: you don't know what you're going to get. But yeah,
- 42:34Speaker 1: I think that you're putting a lot of emphasis. I mean,
- 42:37Speaker 1: the downside, if you want to say, is that you're
- 42:40Speaker 1: putting a lot on game three. This whole plan puts
- 42:43Speaker 1: a lot on winning game three. And I feel good
- 42:46Speaker 1: about that with Chris Sale on the mound. But it
- 42:47Speaker 1: is that you have to– I shouldn't say have to.
- 42:50Speaker 1: You can still win the series, but if you lose
- 42:51Speaker 1: game three. But it's a pretty big game. They're all
- 42:55Speaker 1: big this time of year, but when you specifically decide
- 42:58Speaker 1: to hold your ace, you've got to hope to win
- 43:01Speaker 1: that one. Tyler Mallee might back up in game four.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Yeah, well, and it also might give– it gives Mallee
- 43:07Speaker 2: an extra day of rest. And he threw a lot
- 43:09Speaker 2: of pitches. He was so good against the Phillies, but
- 43:11Speaker 2: he did have that scary– like abdominal issue before the game. And,
- 43:15Speaker 2: you know, it seems like he's fine. He's obviously he's
- 43:17Speaker 2: on the roster. It sure seems like he's in line
- 43:19Speaker 2: to pitch game four now, but by pushing sale back
- 43:22Speaker 2: to game three, it does give Malley an extra day of,
- 43:25Speaker 2: of rest and recovery. And hopefully he's able to go
- 43:27Speaker 2: out there and pitch really well. I know the broadcast
- 43:29Speaker 2: tonight said that Malley has pitched spectacularly against the Dodgers
- 43:33Speaker 2: the past couple of years. So hopefully that keeps going.
- 43:35Speaker 2: And look, man, if Brad, if you would have told
- 43:37Speaker 2: me 48 hours ago that the Braves were going to
- 43:41Speaker 2: be going home to Atlanta and with Chris Sale and
- 43:44Speaker 2: Tyler Malley lined up, and you have a chance to
- 43:47Speaker 2: win the series at home in Game 4. That is
- 43:51Speaker 2: absolute best-case scenario, best outcome imaginable. I mean, sure, you
- 43:55Speaker 2: could have won the first two games in L.A., and
- 43:57Speaker 2: it would be.
- 43:58Speaker 1: A fairy tale.
- 43:59Speaker 2: But, yeah, the fact that they have been able to
- 44:01Speaker 2: win one of these two games in L.A. and now
- 44:03Speaker 2: have Sale and Malley around the corner is all you
- 44:06Speaker 2: can ask for.
- 44:08Speaker 1: That's definitely well said, my friend. And as a one-more-time PSA,
- 44:13Speaker 1: Game 3 and Game 4 are both 6 o'clock Eastern Time,
- 44:17Speaker 1: FS1 and Fox 1. And MLB on Fox, I should say,
- 44:21Speaker 1: is streaming on Fox 1. Postseason is here and ongoing.
- 44:25Speaker 1: And we have your front row seat to the wildest walk-offs.
- 44:27Speaker 1: Lights out pitching and clutch plays all playoffs long. Stream
- 44:30Speaker 1: each NLDS and LCS game plus the 2026 World Series
- 44:35Speaker 1: live on Fox 1. at home or on the go,
- 44:38Speaker 1: live or on demand. Never miss a moment. Stream now.

- 44:45Speaker 1: All right, Scott. We've arrived. Game three's on the horizon.
- 44:53Speaker 1: We should say our coverage plan is that we will
- 44:58Speaker 1: have a game three dedicated preview episode that will drop
- 45:01Speaker 1: on Monday evening at some point with Sean and Steven.
- 45:04Speaker 1: I know people are clamoring for Sean and Steven. They're
- 45:07Speaker 1: coming Monday night. Stay tuned. You will hear the loudest
- 45:11Speaker 1: welcome you've ever heard at the top of the podcast.
- 45:13Speaker 1: It's coming. Sean's excited. I had to physically restrain Sean
- 45:16Speaker 1: from crashing through the wall at the Kool-Aid man to
- 45:19Speaker 1: join us on this podcast tonight. I might be kidding.
- 45:21Speaker 1: I might not be kidding. You guys don't know. But
- 45:25Speaker 1: I have one. I don't want to. I wanted to
- 45:26Speaker 1: end the Fox one segment. We I want to go
- 45:29Speaker 1: back to three days ago or two days ago. You
- 45:31Speaker 1: and I, we both said. Get a split in Los Angeles.
- 45:36Speaker 2: Yes.
- 45:38Speaker 1: Obviously, we would have loved to have both wins. But
- 45:40Speaker 1: getting a split in Los Angeles was the realistic goal.
- 45:44Speaker 1: And every time we say that, I do the same
- 45:47Speaker 1: thing in basketball too. Fans will be like, don't you
- 45:49Speaker 1: want to win all the games? It's like, guys, I'm
- 45:51Speaker 1: not on the team. The team's not thinking get a split.
- 45:54Speaker 1: They want to win every single game. I am sitting
- 45:57Speaker 1: in this computer chair and objectively speaking from a 10,000-foot view,
- 46:01Speaker 1: getting a split in Los Angeles, by the way, without
- 46:04Speaker 1: using Chris Sale, which we didn't know at the time,
- 46:07Speaker 1: It feels even better. If it had been a split
- 46:09Speaker 1: with Chris Sale, it would have been fine with me.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Split without Chris Sale, you feel great. We talked about
- 46:15Speaker 1: Calshi earlier. The numbers are going in the right direction
- 46:17Speaker 1: compared to where they were yesterday. Getting a win does that.
- 46:20Speaker 1: And now, look, this is the oldest Trope match, but
- 46:23Speaker 1: it's a best of three now, and you have home
- 46:26Speaker 1: field advantage. Yep. That's where we are.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Yep, and you've lined up your pitching well. the best
- 46:33Speaker 2: of your ability. Now, Yamamoto is really, really good. And
- 46:36Speaker 2: he was a postseason legend. So unfortunately, there's no Aaron
- 46:40Speaker 2: Nola around the corner for us to try to take
- 46:42Speaker 2: advantage of. And then Tyler Glass now is expected to
- 46:46Speaker 2: start game four. We'll see if the Braves can win
- 46:48Speaker 2: game three, maybe Scooble pitches on short rest in that one.
- 46:51Speaker 1: I don't know. We'll see.
- 46:53Speaker 2: But regardless, you know, Glass now is really good.
- 46:55Speaker 1: When he's healthy too.
- 46:56Speaker 2: So there's not going to be a walk in the park.
- 46:58Speaker 2: We please, you know, we're not, we're not saying the
- 47:01Speaker 2: Braves got to keep Locking in. And the offense needs
- 47:04Speaker 2: to be better. You know, hopefully at home, we saw
- 47:06Speaker 2: the offense come to life in Game 3 of the
- 47:08Speaker 2: wildcard round. Keep hitting for power. You know the Dodgers
- 47:11Speaker 2: are going to be ready to roll. This is a
- 47:12Speaker 2: team that's played so many playoff games over the years. Yeah,
- 47:15Speaker 2: they're probably frustrated they lost tonight, but they're going, look,
- 47:18Speaker 2: we just got to win one out of two in Atlanta,
- 47:20Speaker 2: and then we come back to our place with our
- 47:22Speaker 2: pitching lined up against what would be another bullpen game
- 47:25Speaker 2: for the Braves.
- 47:25Speaker 1: So, just.
- 47:27Speaker 2: Game three, this is a no-shit Sherlock, but game three
- 47:31Speaker 2: in a best-of-three is going to be so important for
- 47:34Speaker 2: both teams. Chris Sale, let's go, extra rest. Your bullpen, too,
- 47:40Speaker 2: should be good to go. They may try to avoid
- 47:42Speaker 2: Didier Fuentes in game three unless they really feel like
- 47:46Speaker 2: they need him, but the fact is you have the
- 47:50Speaker 2: off day, and who else do you trust? Maybe they've
- 47:53Speaker 2: been real delicate with Robert Suarez with his elbow. Dylan
- 47:56Speaker 2: Lee has kind of fallen out of the circle of trust.
- 47:59Speaker 2: I would like to think Dylan Dodd will be in
- 48:00Speaker 2: the mix for some high leverage innings. So maybe we
- 48:03Speaker 2: will see more of Diddy, or I don't know if
- 48:04Speaker 2: he's going to go four innings again, but just a,
- 48:08Speaker 2: and look, if you were in the Atlanta area and
- 48:11Speaker 2: you can get tickets, or maybe you already have tickets,
- 48:13Speaker 2: I need that place jumping on Tuesday night, whatever. I
- 48:17Speaker 2: know it was up to an 11 turned up to
- 48:19Speaker 2: an 11 against the Phillies for game three. I need
- 48:21Speaker 2: it just like that very first pitch of the game
- 48:23Speaker 2: needs to be electric and make it as tough of
- 48:25Speaker 2: a home field advantage as you can possibly have, and
- 48:28Speaker 2: see where the ball goes. And if the Braves can
- 48:31Speaker 2: shock the world and win the next two games and
- 48:33Speaker 2: dethrone the Dodgers and eliminate those guys for the first
- 48:36Speaker 2: time in three years effectively, it would be quite the story.
- 48:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I do think that it will help the crowd
- 48:43Speaker 1: as an Atlanta native that they're playing the Dodgers because
- 48:45Speaker 1: there is– it may not be the same as the Phillies,
- 48:47Speaker 1: but there is some Dodgers animus there. I think part
- 48:50Speaker 1: of the reason why it was so electric the other
- 48:51Speaker 1: day is that the Phillies are hated in Atlanta, which
- 48:54Speaker 1: definitely helps the crowd. The Dodgers are not quite on
- 48:57Speaker 1: that level, but the Dodgers are not well-liked in Atlanta.
- 48:59Speaker 1: That's just what's obvious for obvious reasons. So one more
- 49:02Speaker 1: note about your home away splits and visions about the offense.
- 49:07Speaker 1: I'll just say in the regular season, I looked it
- 49:09Speaker 1: up just now, the Braves had an OPS 62 points
- 49:13Speaker 1: higher at home than on the road. They were a
- 49:17Speaker 1: top 10 office at home. They were not that on
- 49:20Speaker 1: the road. So if they can get some, get some
- 49:23Speaker 1: more runs, everybody would feel a lot better. More than
- 49:25Speaker 1: three would be good for game three. Although if you
- 49:27Speaker 1: give Chris sale three, I feel pretty good about that too.
- 49:30Speaker 1: I have to be honest about that. All right, Scott,
- 49:32Speaker 1: we've done enough. I think it's 1231 Eastern time. As
- 49:36Speaker 1: I'm reporting this, I might be delusional at this point
- 49:38Speaker 1: in time, but, one more time, please subscribe to the
- 49:41Speaker 1: show and we will have a preview coming dedicated preview episode,

- 50:10Speaker 1: Thank you, my friend. It's still Sunday for you. Congratulations
- 50:12Speaker 1: out there on the West Coast.
- 50:13Speaker 2: I've got to say, Brad, I have done this podcast
- 50:16Speaker 2: under incredible duress. There is a mosquito flying around me
- 50:21Speaker 2: for the last 55 minutes. I mean, I don't want
- 50:25Speaker 2: to start clapping trying to kill this MF-er because it
- 50:28Speaker 2: would be awful audio. But trying to do a podcast
- 50:33Speaker 2: when I like five times he's flown across my computer screen.
- 50:37Speaker 2: It's driving me insane. So shouts to me, shouts to
- 50:40Speaker 2: Ray Kerr, shouts to Didier Fuentes, shouts to Michael Harris.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Really great win tonight. You've evened the series. You've given
- 50:47Speaker 2: yourself a chance. And let's go write some fun storylines
- 50:50Speaker 2: back home in Atlanta.
- 50:53Speaker 1: And the Colts won today. Congrats to you on that.
- 50:57Speaker 1: They did. We'll leave it there for now. All right, everybody.
- 51:00Speaker 1: Thanks for listening or watching, as always. And we'll see
- 51:03Speaker 1: you all next time. If you made it this far,
