- 0:03Speaker 1: to be really, really, really challenging.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Back with Gino here in the Women's Patleages of Coaches Show,
- 0:07Speaker 2: we're just having a conversation about communication nowadays. Kids are
- 0:11Speaker 2: so much inngaging their phones now, having that one on
- 0:14Speaker 2: one conversation, that's a great point.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it's hard.
- 0:17Speaker 2: You've been tho those for forty years. Yeah, I hear you.

- 0:40Speaker 1: Which one hard for downtown Downtown, Okay.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Kav wants to come up here.
- 0:45Speaker 1: He wants to do a show with you, So I know,
- 0:46Speaker 1: I know his daughter works here part time.
- 0:48Speaker 2: I heard that.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Yes, he did tell me that. He did tell me
- 0:51Speaker 1: that he's a great girl.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Sarah Strung, we have not mentioned her name a lot
- 0:55Speaker 2: so far tonight, certainly have on the radio, that's for sure.
- 0:59Speaker 2: In the game. Yeah, boy, the things that she does
- 1:03Speaker 2: at her young age, I mean, she's played what forty
- 1:06Speaker 2: five forty six games in her college career, and the
- 1:09Speaker 2: stuff that she's doing complete special. One number that's not
- 1:13Speaker 2: in here of among the eighteen blocks or sixteen blocks,
- 1:16Speaker 2: eighteen steals, I'm shooting thirty percent from three, sixty percent
- 1:21Speaker 2: field goal, eighty eight percent free throws, almost ten boards
- 1:24Speaker 2: a game, just the tips, the active hands that she has.
- 1:28Speaker 2: She disrupts so much. Whether it be inside perimeter doesn't matter.
- 1:31Speaker 2: She is so disruptive.
- 1:34Speaker 1: She is She has great anticipation, which you're kind of
- 1:39Speaker 1: born with, you know. She has great vision, like she
- 1:42Speaker 1: sees what's going on. You know, some kids are like,
- 1:48Speaker 1: remember the old I should have had a V eight.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Like something happens, a kid goes back to her cut,
- 1:54Speaker 1: Oh where's my man? Like they don't get me started.
- 1:58Speaker 1: So she she knows, she knows where you are. She
- 2:02Speaker 1: knows where you are, where you are, where you are,
- 2:04Speaker 1: and very rarely is she caught in a situation where
- 2:08Speaker 1: she's kind of lost. So that's that's one, and that's
- 2:12Speaker 1: just a field that she has for the game. And second,
- 2:18Speaker 1: when she has the ball in her hands, she's never stuck.
- 2:22Speaker 1: You never see kids pick up their dribble and they
- 2:23Speaker 1: go what do I do with it now? And you go,
- 2:25Speaker 1: why'd you pick it up? Well, because I don't know
- 2:27Speaker 1: what to do with it. She's never in that situation,
- 2:30Speaker 1: like if she picks up her dribble, it's because there's
- 2:32Speaker 1: a guy wide open and she's going to pass it
- 2:34Speaker 1: till you know. And she doesn't try to do things
- 2:40Speaker 1: generally speaking. She did it one the other day that
- 2:44Speaker 1: thought was dumb. She doesn't try to do things generally
- 2:48Speaker 1: that are complicated. She keeps the game very very very simple,
- 2:54Speaker 1: very simple. And yet when you watch her, if you
- 2:57Speaker 1: watch her closely, she's like the guy that plays it
- 2:59Speaker 1: for the her nuggets. She's like Yo Kic, Like she
- 3:03Speaker 1: just there's things where she'd like the pass went when
- 3:09Speaker 1: she dove on the ground and reached for the ball
- 3:13Speaker 1: and threw a pass behind her to Toash in Shade
- 3:18Speaker 1: running down for she As she's diving on the floor,
- 3:22Speaker 1: she saw Ash was open, Like who does that? Somebody
- 3:26Speaker 1: that's really gifted and can you know, can see everything.
- 3:31Speaker 1: So you know she shoots the ball, well, she dribbles it, well,
- 3:35Speaker 1: she passed. She has thirty assists and seven turnovers.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good number. That's pretty good, right, she
- 3:40Speaker 2: tried to It's one of those stretch bounce passes. I
- 3:42Speaker 2: think it was Sunday. Is that the one you're talking about.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I mean that's yeah, that's the kind of pass that
- 3:46Speaker 2: Gabby used to do, and do it really well.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's great. I don't I don't have I
- 3:53Speaker 1: don't have a I don't have a problem that that pass.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Only one person could steal it and it just wasn't
- 4:00Speaker 1: own early enough. And yeah, and the kid throw it.
- 4:04Speaker 1: The ones I have a problem with is trying to
- 4:07Speaker 1: throw a ball to where Paul is and three people
- 4:10Speaker 1: are guarding Paul and your brain is telling you that
- 4:15Speaker 1: kid's not open, but you go, but I'm going to
- 4:18Speaker 1: make them open and you throw it there.
- 4:20Speaker 2: It would be like bred far. You mean, it's good
- 4:25Speaker 2: be here Warner Packer's fan, growing up of beings. I
- 4:30Speaker 2: know it's tough one year for Sarah Williams to come
- 4:32Speaker 2: here and adjust, but how do you think she's progressed
- 4:36Speaker 2: so far.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I think it's been a struggle, a little bit of
- 4:39Speaker 1: a struggle, you know, different style of play, and that
- 4:48Speaker 1: you know, you're coming in with a you know, a
- 4:51Speaker 1: group that's kind of been together sort of you know,
- 4:54Speaker 1: the group that she's out there with. So it's it's
- 5:00Speaker 1: more for me, it's more about Okay, So when we
- 5:05Speaker 1: get you the ball in certain spots on the floor,
- 5:08Speaker 1: then you need to be able to score because that's
- 5:11Speaker 1: the same thing that you did last year. So the
- 5:13Speaker 1: things that come natural to you, like you did last year,
- 5:16Speaker 1: then do those things when there's two people guarding you.
- 5:20Speaker 1: You don't have to do that like you maybe had
- 5:23Speaker 1: to do last year, because we've got a bunch of
- 5:24Speaker 1: really good players that if you're passing the ball, they're
- 5:26Speaker 1: going to score, which maybe they didn't have last year.
- 5:29Speaker 1: So there's just things that are going to take time.
- 5:33Speaker 1: And then you know, you don't have to save yourself
- 5:37Speaker 1: to play forty minutes, so you need to like really go, go, go, go,
- 5:42Speaker 1: and then you know you get a breather. Maybe last year,
- 5:46Speaker 1: the last three years, you have to be in the
- 5:48Speaker 1: game for forty minutes for your team to have a
- 5:49Speaker 1: chance to win, all right, So there's a lot of
- 5:52Speaker 1: things that she probably did that now are different, and
- 5:57Speaker 1: you know, those things take a little bit of time.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Play in the Michigan game late it was a high
- 6:02Speaker 2: low against the zone. She was at the file line,
- 6:05Speaker 2: Sarah Strong was download. Usually that's flip flopped. Did you
- 6:08Speaker 2: flip flop flip flop that drawing it up or was
- 6:12Speaker 2: that just something they did naturally?
- 6:14Speaker 1: I might I might have drawn that up eight minutes earlier,
- 6:18Speaker 1: but it finally happened. I don't think that particular time
- 6:23Speaker 1: is I did draw it up. But one of the
- 6:27Speaker 1: things that we do is we try to have people
- 6:32Speaker 1: moving so that that spot in the middle is always
- 6:35Speaker 1: filled and the spot on you know, that spot where
- 6:41Speaker 1: Sarah caught it is always filed. So we try to
- 6:43Speaker 1: make sure that those two spots are filled. Who ends
- 6:47Speaker 1: up filling them can vary, you know. But the one
- 6:50Speaker 1: thing that Sarah Sarah Williams, she's a little bit better
- 6:54Speaker 1: passer than I thought coming in, you know, because I
- 6:58Speaker 1: didn't I didn't know how much he actually paid basketball
- 7:00Speaker 1: last year, or didn't have the opportunity because she had
- 7:03Speaker 1: to score. So she'll be fine. It just takes a
- 7:08Speaker 1: little bit of time. A little bit of.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Time, all right, more do you know in a minute.
- 7:12Speaker 2: It's the kind of women's basketball coaches show live at cafe,
- 7:14Speaker 2: or I stay with us here on Learfield.
