Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hi, once again, everybody. Welcome to this edition of Birds Weekly.
- 0:14Speaker 1: It is brought to you by the Inside the Bird's Network.
- 0:16Speaker 1: That man right there is Ray Didtinger. I'm Derek Gunn
- 0:19Speaker 1: and Ray. There is trouble in Bird's Paradise. Now. I
- 0:24Speaker 1: watched the game a second time just to make sure
- 0:27Speaker 1: I saw what I saw, and it was worse the
- 0:30Speaker 1: second time, Ray, And the best word and the nicest
- 0:33Speaker 1: word I can come up with to describe what I witnessed,
- 0:36Speaker 1: not once but twice is embarrassing. I mean, I'm trying
- 0:40Speaker 1: to be nice about this, but embarrassing. It is a
- 0:43Speaker 1: word of choice right now.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't. I can't come up with another one.
- 0:49Speaker 2: I mean, I guess you could, you know, humiliating, appalling, disgusting,
- 0:56Speaker 2: there are other ones, but embarrassing's pretty good. Good. I
- 1:01Speaker 2: was just thinking for this week, maybe we should call
- 1:04Speaker 2: our segment Bird's Weekly.
- 1:06Speaker 1: W E A K L Y.
- 1:10Speaker 2: That was That was pretty weak and look, we all
- 1:15Speaker 2: we all saw it, we all know it. We could
- 1:17Speaker 2: sit here and re read the box score for the
- 1:20Speaker 2: next half hour, but that's not going to solve anything.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I think what we have to do now is just
- 1:26Speaker 2: kind of figure out, And this is probably the question
- 1:28Speaker 2: everybody's asking, was what we saw on Thursday just an aberration,
- 1:33Speaker 2: just a bad night, or more disturbingly, is it an
- 1:38Speaker 2: indication of where this team is right now? And is
- 1:42Speaker 2: this where is this where you're headed? I don't know.
- 1:44Speaker 2: I mean you typically you would say after a game
- 1:47Speaker 2: like that, you'd say, come on, there're the super Bowl champs.
- 1:50Speaker 2: It was a terrible night. They happened, but we'll be fine.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I don't I don't know anybody that I've talked to
- 1:56Speaker 2: in the last week that's saying they'll be fine. I
- 1:58Speaker 2: think people have genuine concerns as you do, and so.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Do what you know, Ray, And I'm the same way.
- 2:04Speaker 1: People are are asking me what's wrong with this team?
- 2:07Speaker 1: Is this what we're gonna be watching the rest of
- 2:09Speaker 1: the season? And I honestly don't know how to answer
- 2:13Speaker 1: them right now. I mean, when you think about it,
- 2:15Speaker 1: and bear with me for a moment. We're gonna start
- 2:19Speaker 1: with this defense. We always start with the offense, but
- 2:21Speaker 1: let's start with the defense this time. In a span
- 2:24Speaker 1: of five days, we've watched this Eagles defense get taken
- 2:27Speaker 1: apart by a second year quarterback with less than a
- 2:31Speaker 1: year and a half experience in bo Nicks and then
- 2:34Speaker 1: a rookie quarterback who was making his third start at
- 2:38Speaker 1: the NFL level. Now no Jalen Carter. In this game,
- 2:41Speaker 1: Quinnon Mitchell goes down with a hamstring injury. Okay, but
- 2:45Speaker 1: they are guys like little Jordan Humphrey, one Dale Robinson,
- 2:50Speaker 1: Jalen Hyatt who hadn't caught a pass all season until
- 2:54Speaker 1: Thursday night running rings around the Eagles defense. Ray. The
- 2:58Speaker 1: Eagle secondary depth right now is abysmal with no end
- 3:03Speaker 1: in sight. I don't know any other way to describe it.
- 3:07Speaker 2: No, that's I think you're right. And we still don't
- 3:12Speaker 2: know really the status of quini On Mitchell when he's
- 3:14Speaker 2: going to be back. But when he came out, yeah,
- 3:19Speaker 2: I mean at that point, Jackson dark do anything you
- 3:22Speaker 2: wanted to do. I mean, we've seen a Dori Jackson
- 3:26Speaker 2: up to this point, and he ain't going to get
- 3:30Speaker 2: any better. I mean, I mean, he's it's a Dory
- 3:34Speaker 2: Jackson and you put him out in the field, that's
- 3:36Speaker 2: what you're going to get.
- 3:38Speaker 1: You know.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Kitty Ringo is a kid who I think has a
- 3:42Speaker 2: worulnerability but has not yet put it together. So you
- 3:47Speaker 2: look at him and you think, well, maybe if you know,
- 3:49Speaker 2: maybe you can work him in and maybe he can
- 3:51Speaker 2: he can sort of find himself. I don't know, I
- 3:55Speaker 2: don't know if there's any Yeah, it's no guarantee to that,
- 3:59Speaker 2: but there's a chance said maybe he could he could
- 4:01Speaker 2: get better, Dori Jackson. I mean I've seen enough. I mean,
- 4:05Speaker 2: that's you know. I mean, the coverage thing has been
- 4:08Speaker 2: bad from the start, you know, but I mean the
- 4:11Speaker 2: way he turtled up on that on that play at
- 4:13Speaker 2: the goal line is just I mean, come on. And
- 4:17Speaker 2: that's when you look at what what was the stamp
- 4:21Speaker 2: of this team last year? The way they physically dominated
- 4:26Speaker 2: week after week after week. I mean they were like
- 4:30Speaker 2: the new Broad Street Bullies has really kind of what
- 4:32Speaker 2: they were. And now they're getting it handed to him.
- 4:35Speaker 2: And uh and on Thursday night, for sure, And you know,
- 4:40Speaker 2: I didn't see it coming. I honestly didn't. I mean,
- 4:43Speaker 2: I thought that the Denver loss was disturbing because it
- 4:47Speaker 2: just seems to me that you don't blow a two
- 4:49Speaker 2: touchdown fourth quarter lead at home. But I mean there
- 4:53Speaker 2: was a side of you that could say, listen, I
- 4:54Speaker 2: think Denver is a better team than people realize. And
- 4:56Speaker 2: I think Denver's pretty good and Peyton's a really good coach,
- 4:59Speaker 2: and yeah, I mean, okay, that's you've got to lose
- 5:03Speaker 2: those games now, and again you can kind of rationalize
- 5:06Speaker 2: that one. Admittedly, that's what I did, because when you
- 5:09Speaker 2: and I, when you and I came off of that
- 5:11Speaker 2: game and we're talking and looking ahead to this game,
- 5:15Speaker 2: I fully expected this to be, you know, one of
- 5:18Speaker 2: those get right games. Yep, a short week, good team
- 5:21Speaker 2: off a bad loss, playing a bad team coming coming
- 5:25Speaker 2: out of New Orleans, where they just hand it a
- 5:27Speaker 2: bad Saints team a runaway win. I'm saying that this
- 5:31Speaker 2: is going to be. And I said to you, I said,
- 5:33Speaker 2: I think they're going to blow this team out. I agree,
- 5:35Speaker 2: And I said, like thirty one thirteen or something, I mean,
- 5:40Speaker 2: and I thought that was conservative. I in no way,
- 5:44Speaker 2: shape or form expected what we saw on Thursday. And
- 5:48Speaker 2: you can't just dismiss it as oh, you know that
- 5:50Speaker 2: was a blip, because early in the season when we
- 5:54Speaker 2: were talking about some of the inconsistencies we were seeing
- 5:57Speaker 2: with this team, which were there, certainly, you know, I
- 6:01Speaker 2: was saying maybe not so much as you, but I
- 6:04Speaker 2: was saying, look, it's early. You know they're gonna they're
- 6:06Speaker 2: gonna work through all this and get to mid season.
- 6:08Speaker 2: They're gonna hit their stride and they're gonna be They're
- 6:11Speaker 2: still the best team in the league. They're just working
- 6:13Speaker 2: some things out. Well, you know, we're six games in now, uh,
- 6:19Speaker 2: and things aren't getting better. If anything, they're just getting worse.
- 6:23Speaker 2: And now you have to begin to ask yourself, is
- 6:26Speaker 2: this really what this team is and if that's if
- 6:29Speaker 2: it's if it's more of the same with what we
- 6:31Speaker 2: saw on Thursday night, Man, it's gonna be a long,
- 6:33Speaker 2: hard road to the finish line.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Not only that ray, but as we know, as we've
- 6:38Speaker 1: covered not just professional football, but other sports as well,
- 6:43Speaker 1: if a downroad spiral continues, all of a sudden, you
- 6:47Speaker 1: have guys in the locker room that start to whisper
- 6:49Speaker 1: a little bit louder, a little bit louder, and more
- 6:52Speaker 1: people start to hear their grapes, and it becomes more
- 6:56Speaker 1: of a media frenzy in terms of trying to die
- 7:00Speaker 1: sect what is wrong with the team and who's finger
- 7:03Speaker 1: pointing who, and is their tension in the locker room
- 7:05Speaker 1: and who doesn't like who? But but it's quite obvious
- 7:09Speaker 1: that I think Howie Roseman may have to make some
- 7:13Speaker 1: type of move before the trade deadline, especially to show
- 7:17Speaker 1: up that cornerback position. And I've looked at a number
- 7:20Speaker 1: of players out there are still out there and no,
- 7:23Speaker 1: nothing great, but somebody's got to be better than what
- 7:27Speaker 1: they have right now, other than Quenyon Mitchell when he's healthy,
- 7:30Speaker 1: because the opposite side of the field is like it's
- 7:33Speaker 1: like a vast wasteland over there. And if I'm a
- 7:36Speaker 1: decent quarterback, I may make the Pro Bowl throwing to
- 7:40Speaker 1: the opposite side of the field from away from Quenyon
- 7:42Speaker 1: Mitchell this season.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Absolutely absolutely. I mean that's and that's where you are now,
- 7:47Speaker 2: and that's I don't know if that's going to get
- 7:49Speaker 2: any better. It certainly ain't gonna get any better with
- 7:51Speaker 2: Dori Jackson. I mean that's that's for sure. And you
- 7:54Speaker 2: can look at Ringo and say, boy, there's still a
- 7:56Speaker 2: lot there to develop. He's just not quite there yet.
- 7:59Speaker 2: I don't know, but yeah, I mean that is one
- 8:03Speaker 2: thought I had coming off of that game on Thursday,
- 8:06Speaker 2: was you know, there's the side of it that says, oh,
- 8:11Speaker 2: come on, you don't want to panic. You don't want
- 8:13Speaker 2: to panic right now. Well, when you come off a
- 8:16Speaker 2: game like that, there's something to be said for not panicking,
- 8:18Speaker 2: but it's also you can't just let it go. You
- 8:22Speaker 2: have to look at the reality of it. And you've
- 8:23Speaker 2: got a trading deadline coming up. You have what has
- 8:27Speaker 2: been an obvious weakness with this team since training camp
- 8:30Speaker 2: is that other cornerback position, and it's not getting any better.
- 8:34Speaker 2: So I think I don't know how he's going to
- 8:37Speaker 2: be able to make a move because, like you said,
- 8:39Speaker 2: I don't think there's there are no Patricks or Tan
- 8:41Speaker 2: sitting out there that anybody's willing to trade. But I
- 8:45Speaker 2: think how he has to be looking for ways to
- 8:48Speaker 2: try and prove that. If you can't make the trade,
- 8:51Speaker 2: then you know, maybe you're at the point now where
- 8:56Speaker 2: I know they haven't been, they haven't wanted to do it,
- 8:59Speaker 2: but maybe it just got to put Cooper to Gene
- 9:01Speaker 2: out there and then and then just make him the
- 9:04Speaker 2: other make Kim cornerback too, and then just try and
- 9:07Speaker 2: mix and match in the slot. But that might be
- 9:11Speaker 2: if they can't make a deal, that might be that
- 9:14Speaker 2: might be the way to go.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Now.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I wouldn't recommend it because I think degene is is
- 9:18Speaker 2: well suited to the slot position. But if you can't
- 9:21Speaker 2: make a trade to improve that position, that might be
- 9:24Speaker 2: your only alternative.
- 9:26Speaker 1: And Ray, I don't think a lot of teams want
- 9:28Speaker 1: a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles right now when you
- 9:31Speaker 1: think about it. I mean with the success they've had now,
- 9:35Speaker 1: you know over the last couple of years. You know,
- 9:38Speaker 1: if I'm a gm uh, the Eagles are the last
- 9:41Speaker 1: team I want to help make stronger in any way,
- 9:43Speaker 1: shape or for you know, we we we've heard We've
- 9:46Speaker 1: heard teams say that in the past, and when it
- 9:47Speaker 1: comes to dealing with other teams, I'm not going to
- 9:49Speaker 1: help them. Why would I Why would I help them
- 9:52Speaker 1: get any better? So how he may be handcuffed in
- 9:54Speaker 1: some ways in terms of what he would like to do.
- 9:56Speaker 1: We always wait for him, whether it's whether it's it's
- 9:59Speaker 1: the spring, spring or training camp or early in the
- 10:02Speaker 1: season to make a wow factor type of trade. But
- 10:05Speaker 1: I think his hands, maybe he might be handcuffed in
- 10:08Speaker 1: this case.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Could be could be that you and I both know
- 10:14Speaker 2: how well enough. Yeah, you know that he's not sitting
- 10:16Speaker 2: on his hands right now. I mean, he's he's got
- 10:19Speaker 2: the big board up there with all the all the
- 10:22Speaker 2: cornerbacks in the league raided, and he's thinking of alternatives.
- 10:27Speaker 2: He's thinking about making a move because he's done it.
- 10:29Speaker 2: He's you know, he's not a guy that shy about
- 10:31Speaker 2: making moves in mid season. He does it more often
- 10:34Speaker 2: than not. And here's the situation where you have an
- 10:37Speaker 2: obvious need. The question is is there anybody out there
- 10:40Speaker 2: that's gettable, that could be better than what you have
- 10:42Speaker 2: right now? You know, getting back to the point that
- 10:45Speaker 2: you made just a moment ago, which is a really
- 10:48Speaker 2: good one, is when when things start to go bad,
- 10:54Speaker 2: is the what happens within the locker room among the players,
- 10:59Speaker 2: the level of disc intent, the murmuring and all that
- 11:02Speaker 2: kind of stuff that happens. I mean, you've seen it.
- 11:04Speaker 2: I've seen it, yeah, but Thursday night it went way
- 11:08Speaker 2: past murmuring. I thought it was very telling that Lane
- 11:14Speaker 2: Johnson after the game in the locker room without any prompting, okay,
- 11:19Speaker 2: I mean, volunteer at the fact that we're predictable on
- 11:23Speaker 2: offense and sort of elaborated on it. It isn't like
- 11:30Speaker 2: it was one of those we've seen players say things
- 11:32Speaker 2: and immediately they regret them just oh, that's kind of
- 11:34Speaker 2: slipped down.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Hey, you know that one guy in the group chat
- 11:38Speaker 3: who hit a five leg parlay week one and he
- 11:41Speaker 3: wouldn't shut up about it for the rest of the season.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Sounds like kaplan, right, Yeah, yeah, it.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Could be him, It could be you, and we would
- 11:49Speaker 3: all want to be you. My bookie makes it stupid
- 11:53Speaker 3: easy to get in on the action, whether it's college ball,

- 14:07Speaker 3: and support the show.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Lane Johnson's a thirteen year VET. He's been in this
- 14:12Speaker 2: city his whole career. He knows, he knows the medium
- 14:16Speaker 2: market here, he knows how the news cycle works. He
- 14:20Speaker 2: doesn't just stumble into saying things. He knew exactly what
- 14:24Speaker 2: he was doing there. He was He said what he
- 14:27Speaker 2: said for a purpose, and that was to get it
- 14:30Speaker 2: out and basically say, hey, this is how we feel.
- 14:36Speaker 2: And I mean if it's He's not like a first
- 14:39Speaker 2: year player that doesn't understand the implications of a player
- 14:43Speaker 2: saying something in dire times. He knows. So what he
- 14:48Speaker 2: was doing given this medium market with sports talk radio,
- 14:52Speaker 2: with the media, all podcasters, I mean, this is exactly
- 14:55Speaker 2: what everybody's out there was sort of fans and pod
- 15:00Speaker 2: casters and talk shows. We're using it. Are the Eagles predictable?
- 15:03Speaker 2: On the Eagles predictable? And that that people have been
- 15:06Speaker 2: kicking that around and it would be easy for coaches
- 15:10Speaker 2: and other players just you guys don't know what you're
- 15:12Speaker 2: talking about. When Blane Johnson says it, then all of
- 15:16Speaker 2: a sudden, it's out there and everybody has to face it.
- 15:20Speaker 2: I mean that was I mean, that was like throwing
- 15:23Speaker 2: a big piece of Kobe beef into a tiger cage,
- 15:27Speaker 2: was what he did on Thursday night. And and everybody
- 15:32Speaker 2: is going to just pounce on that.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Uh.
- 15:34Speaker 2: And it didn't happen by accident, And so now I
- 15:37Speaker 2: think you have to deal with the fallout from that,
- 15:41Speaker 2: uh and the conception that, geez, maybe there's internal trouble
- 15:45Speaker 2: on the team. But that's another issue. The one issue
- 15:48Speaker 2: now the accuracy of what he's saying and the validity
- 15:51Speaker 2: of what he's saying. And if there really is that
- 15:54Speaker 2: element of predictability there, and to me, I think there is,
- 15:58Speaker 2: then it's up to the coaching staff find a way
- 16:00Speaker 2: to address it.
- 16:01Speaker 1: In all the years I've covered this game, Ray, I've
- 16:04Speaker 1: found out one thing to be true. When one player
- 16:07Speaker 1: is brave enough to make a comment like that, he
- 16:09Speaker 1: is not only speaking for himself, He's speaking for multiple
- 16:13Speaker 1: players on that team. And if things like this continue,
- 16:17Speaker 1: you're gonna see more and more players get braver and
- 16:19Speaker 1: braver in terms of speaking out. It's gonna trickle down
- 16:23Speaker 1: to where the younger players are gonna start speaking out
- 16:26Speaker 1: as well. You know, you look at a guy like
- 16:29Speaker 1: DeVonta Smith. He's a young player, but he's already at
- 16:31Speaker 1: a point he doesn't have a problem speaking his mind
- 16:34Speaker 1: because his buddy, you know, aj Brown, speaks his mind. Okay,
- 16:38Speaker 1: So it makes a younger player a lot braver. And
- 16:41Speaker 1: when that kind of stuff happens, it puts the coordinator,
- 16:46Speaker 1: It puts the head coach under a lot of pressure
- 16:49Speaker 1: because when they sit down at that podium and have
- 16:53Speaker 1: to answer the media because they know it's coming, they
- 16:57Speaker 1: have to deflect stuff that they don't want to talk about.
- 16:59Speaker 1: And then you have to turn around and talk about
- 17:01Speaker 1: it the in house with their players and try to
- 17:03Speaker 1: get their players back on the same page before this
- 17:06Speaker 1: thing completely unravels, right right.
- 17:09Speaker 2: You know, when we were for the season, when we
- 17:12Speaker 2: were looking down the road to what challenges we're going
- 17:16Speaker 2: to face this team at the defending champ one of
- 17:19Speaker 2: the things that we talked about was and one of
- 17:23Speaker 2: the things I was concerned about was the history of
- 17:26Speaker 2: this team the year after a Super Bowl the years
- 17:30Speaker 2: after Super Bowls have always been really tough years for
- 17:36Speaker 2: this team, and going all the way back to the
- 17:38Speaker 2: for Meal team in the eighty one season. You know,
- 17:41Speaker 2: they started the year six and zero looked great and
- 17:45Speaker 2: then just sort of ran out of gas second half
- 17:48Speaker 2: of the year, had some tough losses, limped into the
- 17:51Speaker 2: playoffs and were won and done. You know, then Andy's
- 17:54Speaker 2: team come off the loss to the Patriots. They come
- 17:57Speaker 2: back to the next year, you have the to meltdown.
- 18:01Speaker 2: You know, McNabb gets hurt, You're coming down the stretch
- 18:04Speaker 2: with Mike McMahon a quarterback. You wind up not even
- 18:06Speaker 2: making the playoffs. Then you come off winning the Super
- 18:11Speaker 2: Bowl with the Doug Peterson team, and immediately, you know,
- 18:15Speaker 2: Wentz comes back from the injury, does not play well.
- 18:19Speaker 2: You get into this whole Winz Foles thing. The fans
- 18:22Speaker 2: turn on wins, all kinds of questions, or is the coach,
- 18:26Speaker 2: how's the coach going to deal with this? All sorts
- 18:30Speaker 2: of drama. The team again sort of gets into the playoffs.
- 18:35Speaker 2: They win one game in Chicago by luck double doink,
- 18:39Speaker 2: and then lose the next week in New Orleans, and
- 18:42Speaker 2: then the Sirianne team that loses a tough game in
- 18:46Speaker 2: the Super Bowl to Kansas City, comes back the next year,
- 18:48Speaker 2: goes ten to one, and then just completely collapses. And
- 18:53Speaker 2: every and all one thing that's been true in all
- 18:55Speaker 2: of those cases was there was just an incredible amount
- 18:58Speaker 2: of drama and each is seasons just it just was
- 19:01Speaker 2: there and in some cases most cases that this team
- 19:05Speaker 2: didn't handle it very well. And you know, and I said,
- 19:08Speaker 2: you know, it doesn't necessarily mean it has to be
- 19:11Speaker 2: like that every time. History is the history with this team,
- 19:15Speaker 2: and it has something to do maybe with just the
- 19:18Speaker 2: mood of this town, the fan base in this town,
- 19:20Speaker 2: the interest level, the media that just if something goes
- 19:24Speaker 2: wrong then it just turns into a total meltdown. And
- 19:30Speaker 2: you know, right now we're sort of sitting on that precipice.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Now at four and two, you're not eliminated from anything.
- 19:38Speaker 2: At four and two, you're still in a position where
- 19:40Speaker 2: you can certainly salvage this season. And it would be
- 19:44Speaker 2: fair to say, look at where they were last year
- 19:47Speaker 2: at two and two and how bad everything looked, and
- 19:50Speaker 2: they turned it around and they won the Super Bowl.
- 19:52Speaker 2: And if you want to be glass half full, say
- 19:55Speaker 2: this same team same coaching staff. You know, they were
- 19:57Speaker 2: kind of here last year and they straightened it out.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Well maybe that's so, but I'm not feeling that right now.
- 20:05Speaker 2: You know, I mean six games in Derek, they still
- 20:08Speaker 2: haven't played a complete game yet. Now six games now,
- 20:11Speaker 2: you've been outgained in every game. And I'm not necessarily
- 20:14Speaker 2: believing that every answer is in the stat sheet. Some
- 20:17Speaker 2: of them are. And if you look around the league
- 20:20Speaker 2: where this team ranks offensively, you know, twenty first, twenty fifth,
- 20:24Speaker 2: twenty third. I mean, it's not an accident that they
- 20:28Speaker 2: are where they are right now, and they got to
- 20:30Speaker 2: come up with some answers, and they don't have a
- 20:32Speaker 2: whole hell of a lot of time to find them.
- 20:34Speaker 1: You know, we applauded this defense in particular for its
- 20:38Speaker 1: tackling prowess. You know, a bunch of shore tacklers. But
- 20:41Speaker 1: we watched this rookie named Cam Skataboo nineteen carries ninety
- 20:45Speaker 1: eight yards three touchdowns run through this Eagles defense like
- 20:50Speaker 1: Swiss cheese. It was like the Eagles are never practiced
- 20:53Speaker 1: tackling a At one point, right to me, it looked
- 20:56Speaker 1: like they wanted no parts of hitting this guy because
- 20:58Speaker 1: he was bowling over. I saw him at you know,
- 21:01Speaker 1: Zach Bond on the sideline at one time, going down
- 21:03Speaker 1: the sideline, and I said to myself, it cam, Remember,
- 21:07Speaker 1: Zach's got a family to feed. Now, man, take it
- 21:09Speaker 1: a little easy on. But man, that kid lowered his shoulder.
- 21:12Speaker 1: When I watched him run ray, it reminded me of
- 21:15Speaker 1: three players in particular, John Riggins, Larry Zanka Mike Alstadt,
- 21:22Speaker 1: because that kid was inflicting pain on this Eagles defense
- 21:25Speaker 1: all night long.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I mean, well,
- 21:33Speaker 2: we've seen Zach Bonn is a good player. I mean,
- 21:37Speaker 2: finalist for Defensive Player of the Year last year. I mean,
- 21:39Speaker 2: he's no chump, no club but this but this kid
- 21:44Speaker 2: knocked him halfway to exit sixteen W in the turnpike
- 21:48Speaker 2: and that won't carry. Now, I had not I had
- 21:51Speaker 2: never seen that before. I had never seen that before. Yeah,
- 21:56Speaker 2: I mean yeah, they made they made Scott a Boo
- 22:00Speaker 2: looked like Zanka, the reincarnation of Zanka. And they made
- 22:04Speaker 2: Jackson Dart in his third start look like Roger Staubach.
- 22:07Speaker 2: You know. And what's really disturbing about this is, I mean,
- 22:13Speaker 2: you see all the celebrating and and I'm geez. I mean,
- 22:16Speaker 2: if you read the New York papers now, it's we're
- 22:20Speaker 2: we might never lose another game with these guys. I mean, hey, guys,
- 22:23Speaker 2: the previous Sunday you couldn't beat the Saints. Let's get
- 22:27Speaker 2: real here, what are we really talking about? I mean,
- 22:29Speaker 2: what kind of team are they? Do we think that
- 22:31Speaker 2: all of a sudden, Brian Dable became the second coming
- 22:33Speaker 2: of Shula. I mean it's it just I think the
- 22:37Speaker 2: way the Eagles played and they basically walked in there
- 22:40Speaker 2: like they didn't even feel like playing that night. I
- 22:43Speaker 2: think they contributed more to what happened there than what
- 22:46Speaker 2: the Giants did. And that's that, to me, is the
- 22:49Speaker 2: really disturbing part. And the other thing, and this is
- 22:51Speaker 2: this is like a sidebar. Okay, that's a personal thing.
- 22:56Speaker 2: But you're in the Super Bowl Champs. Okay, you're on
- 23:00Speaker 2: a national TV primetime game and you're getting humiliated by
- 23:05Speaker 2: these guys. I mean this wasn't just that they were
- 23:08Speaker 2: beating you on the scoreboard. I mean they're summersaulting and
- 23:12Speaker 2: cartwheeling and you guys are dancing in the end zone
- 23:14Speaker 2: and they're laughing at you on the sidelines, where's your pride,
- 23:21Speaker 2: Where's where's where's the little show of something that hey,
- 23:23Speaker 2: you know, okay, you can win the game, but don't
- 23:27Speaker 2: show me up, okay, And they and the whole second
- 23:30Speaker 2: half of that game, that's all. That was, every single play.
- 23:35Speaker 2: And I wish I had seen a little more fight
- 23:38Speaker 2: in this team in the second half, you know, instead
- 23:41Speaker 2: instead of just completely was mailing it in in the
- 23:43Speaker 2: fourth quarter. I would have liked to see this team
- 23:45Speaker 2: sort of stand up and say, hey, you know, we're
- 23:47Speaker 2: the champs, all right, show us a little respect. And
- 23:50Speaker 2: there was there was none of that. Now, in two weeks,
- 23:55Speaker 2: that team is going to come into the link and
- 23:58Speaker 2: play the Eagles again. We still have another game to
- 24:01Speaker 2: play before that. But I wonder if you're, if you're
- 24:05Speaker 2: the Eagles coaches, that week leading up to that game,
- 24:10Speaker 2: I'm going to make I would make this team watch
- 24:12Speaker 2: that film every day. I agree, say, look what these
- 24:16Speaker 2: guys did to you. Look what these guys did to
- 24:18Speaker 2: you in national television. Look at look at the celebrations,
- 24:21Speaker 2: Look at the I mean they showed you up to
- 24:24Speaker 2: the whole country, you know, and now they're coming in here.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Now this is payback.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Time.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Now, let's see. Now, they still got another game to
- 24:30Speaker 2: play between now and then with the Vikings. They got
- 24:33Speaker 2: to get in and out of Minnesota and try and
- 24:35Speaker 2: get this thing right. But I kind of want to
- 24:37Speaker 2: see if there's just a little something extra that the
- 24:39Speaker 2: Eagles have for the Giants when they can when they
- 24:42Speaker 2: come into Philly, because they got it handed to them
- 24:44Speaker 2: big time in an embarrassing fashion. And if you're a
- 24:47Speaker 2: real championship team, I mean you get the stuff of
- 24:50Speaker 2: real champions which really that pride factor. You better see
- 24:55Speaker 2: it and you better see it soon.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Where was the pass rush? I mean this at Jackson
- 25:00Speaker 1: Dark every time they got close to him, he would
- 25:03Speaker 1: step up and take off. I'm thinking the second coming
- 25:05Speaker 1: of Baker Mayfield, you know you said Roger Staalbeck. I'm
- 25:09Speaker 1: thinking this is like Baker Baker Mayfield part part two.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Uh Sadarius Smith, if memory serves me right, it is
- 25:16Speaker 1: still the only edge rusher with the sack for this
- 25:18Speaker 1: team through through six games. Where's the containment? Where's the
- 25:22Speaker 1: pass rush on these guys? And especially a guy making
- 25:25Speaker 1: his third start in professional football. I mean you, this
- 25:29Speaker 1: kid was comfortable back there, and a few times you
- 25:32Speaker 1: made him uncomfortably found a way to escape and make
- 25:35Speaker 1: a positive game. And I'm thinking, Okay, even without Jalen Carter,
- 25:40Speaker 1: you have enough talent on that defense, not just in
- 25:43Speaker 1: your trenches, but your front seven to get some kind
- 25:46Speaker 1: of pressure. I thought Fangio would thoroughly confuse this kid.
- 25:50Speaker 1: This kid made Fangio's defense look like a bunch of
- 25:53Speaker 1: a rangamuffin defense.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I kind of felt the same thing. I
- 25:59Speaker 2: kind of expected that this would be like reminiscent of
- 26:04Speaker 2: one of the old Jim Johnson kinds of games back
- 26:06Speaker 2: in the past, when Jim Johnson was calling defensive signals
- 26:09Speaker 2: and every time they played a rookie or a second
- 26:11Speaker 2: year quarterback, you know, Jim just tied the kid in knots,
- 26:14Speaker 2: and I kind of thought Fi would do the same thing.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Certainly didn't. I mean, Dart was in complete control, and
- 26:23Speaker 2: they never in the pass rush. They just seemed completely
- 26:26Speaker 2: incapable of containing him. I mean there was no I
- 26:29Speaker 2: mean every time he wanted to, every time he wanted
- 26:32Speaker 2: to get out of the pocket, the back door was
- 26:34Speaker 2: always open. They never recounted for that, and that was
- 26:38Speaker 2: that was very disturbing. I think one of the factors
- 26:41Speaker 2: that contributes to some of this now and we've seen
- 26:45Speaker 2: it now in the second half of some games. Is
- 26:48Speaker 2: the defense just melts, you know, I mean at fourth
- 26:51Speaker 2: quarter of the Denver game, certainly second half of this game.
- 26:55Speaker 2: And I think some of it is is part of
- 26:58Speaker 2: the fact that the offense is going three and out
- 27:00Speaker 2: on every series, you know, and so look how many minutes,
- 27:04Speaker 2: Look how many minutes the defense is playing. And right now,
- 27:08Speaker 2: with the injury factor, they're not very deep. They don't
- 27:11Speaker 2: have a whole lot of bodies out there on the defense.
- 27:13Speaker 2: So the guys that are playing are playing. If the
- 27:15Speaker 2: offense is three and out, three and out, three and out,
- 27:17Speaker 2: which they have been to a great with great regularity lately,
- 27:21Speaker 2: then that puts more pressure on the defense, and right
- 27:24Speaker 2: now they don't have the bodies to handle that. So
- 27:27Speaker 2: you know, what kind of what the stuff you're seeing
- 27:29Speaker 2: in the second half and in the fourth quarter a
- 27:31Speaker 2: lot of these games is maybe just the attrition factor.
- 27:33Speaker 2: I think the Giants, I think I counted, I think
- 27:35Speaker 2: the Giants ran sixty seven plays or something in this game.
- 27:38Speaker 2: And again, what's more upsetting and worrisome about it is
- 27:43Speaker 2: how bad they looked in New Orleans four days ago.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Yeah, five turnovers.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, this isn't a team, a young team
- 27:51Speaker 2: with some young players that you see we say, oh man,
- 27:53Speaker 2: they're coming on, boy, you can see it coming.
- 27:57Speaker 1: No.
- 27:58Speaker 2: I certainly didn't see that in New Orleans. I mean
- 28:01Speaker 2: when I saw in New Orleans was a lot of
- 28:03Speaker 2: a young team, a lot of young players who were
- 28:05Speaker 2: making young young player dumb mistakes. And four days later,
- 28:09Speaker 2: all of a sudden, they've become the reincarnation of the
- 28:11Speaker 2: Parcels Giants. It was, you know, right now, I wish
- 28:17Speaker 2: I had a better handle on what this team is.
- 28:20Speaker 2: If the one question I've been asking myself since Thursday,
- 28:26Speaker 2: and it was a very basic question. It began occurring
- 28:28Speaker 2: to me during the game watching. It was, man, what
- 28:32Speaker 2: does this team do well? If you were to ask
- 28:35Speaker 2: me what, you know, well, yeah, but they but they
- 28:38Speaker 2: can really they do this really well. What do they
- 28:41Speaker 2: do well? Right now?
- 28:43Speaker 1: They?
- 28:43Speaker 2: You know, did they run the ball? Well? No, the
- 28:47Speaker 2: passing game comes and goes. Defensively, you can't stop the run.
- 28:53Speaker 2: I mean, and that's been ongoing all this year. If
- 28:56Speaker 2: teams want to run the ball on them, they can.
- 28:59Speaker 2: And I was with Mitchell out. They can't cover anybody
- 29:02Speaker 2: in the second and they can't return a kick, you know.
- 29:06Speaker 2: I mean, the only thing you would say right now,
- 29:10Speaker 2: if you're going to say, what do they do well?
- 29:12Speaker 2: Right now? They have a good punter and their placekicker
- 29:17Speaker 2: is perfect in field goals. That's it. I mean, everything
- 29:21Speaker 2: else is what they do that, No, they don't. Frankly,
- 29:25Speaker 2: they don't. And when that's the case, then to begin
- 29:28Speaker 2: turning something around, you need to have something to build on,
- 29:31Speaker 2: you know, And right now, you tell me what that is,
- 29:35Speaker 2: I don't see it.
- 29:37Speaker 1: I have no answer. Ring you touched on Elane Johnson
- 29:40Speaker 1: a little bit ago, Who's who's still one of the best,
- 29:44Speaker 1: if not the best, right tackle in auto pro football,
- 29:46Speaker 1: and I think we would agree a future Hall of Famer.
- 29:49Speaker 1: But Ray, I never thought I would be saying this.
- 29:51Speaker 1: I think the offensive line is a major problem in
- 29:54Speaker 1: terms of both run blocking and pass protection at this point.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it is. It is. If you ask me where
- 30:02Speaker 2: what is the biggest problem right now or where does
- 30:04Speaker 2: you know where does this all start? I would probably
- 30:07Speaker 2: say the offensive line. I would probably say the offensive
- 30:09Speaker 2: line because if you think about the offense, I mean,
- 30:14Speaker 2: you got the same quarterback, got the same running back,
- 30:17Speaker 2: same set of receivers. The so called skill positions are
- 30:20Speaker 2: all the same guys that just won you a Super Bowl.
- 30:22Speaker 2: So what's the big difference here? Biggest difference is the
- 30:25Speaker 2: offensive line. And I mean the offensive line was really
- 30:29Speaker 2: the strength of this team for the last several years.
- 30:33Speaker 2: You know, it all kind of started there, and right
- 30:36Speaker 2: now the offensive line not very good. I mean the
- 30:40Speaker 2: interior of the line. I mean, and we've said it before,
- 30:42Speaker 2: Dickerson has been playing through a lot of injuries. Now
- 30:44Speaker 2: he finally can't play and he might be out for
- 30:47Speaker 2: a little while, I think. And so on the interior,
- 30:51Speaker 2: you got Steen who's still trying to figure it out.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Jurgens who is not played well. I think he's I
- 30:56Speaker 2: think he's still dealing with back issues. Dickerson has been heard.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Now you're playing with backups there. So the interior of
- 31:03Speaker 2: the line has had issues throughout. Lane has had the
- 31:07Speaker 2: stinger which has had him on and off the field,
- 31:10Speaker 2: and my lotta had played well, but you know, he
- 31:14Speaker 2: even had a tough night Thursday night. I mean, Burns
- 31:17Speaker 2: beat him a couple times in uncharacteristic ways. So yeah,
- 31:21Speaker 2: I mean that to me is the biggest area. I mean,
- 31:24Speaker 2: they Saquon Barkley to me, looks like the same player
- 31:27Speaker 2: he was a year ago, but he's just not getting
- 31:30Speaker 2: The offensive line is not getting to push, and defenses
- 31:34Speaker 2: just seemed to know. And maybe this gets back to
- 31:36Speaker 2: Lane's statement about predictability defenses. They seem to be ready
- 31:41Speaker 2: for everything the Eagles are trying right now, and you
- 31:44Speaker 2: know within the games when there is a moment when
- 31:48Speaker 2: the Eagles could make a play, they could maybe turn
- 31:50Speaker 2: the tide of the game. Two weeks in a row,
- 31:53Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts has missed a wide open receiver that could
- 31:57Speaker 2: have been, that could have been, that should have been
- 31:59Speaker 2: a touchdo down, that maybe could have turned the game
- 32:01Speaker 2: in your favor. And two weeks in a row. One
- 32:03Speaker 2: week he misses Brown and in this week he clearly
- 32:06Speaker 2: misses Smith.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Ray. This Eagles offense, as inconsistent and mediocre as it
- 32:14Speaker 1: has been, was going up against the twenty sixth ranked
- 32:18Speaker 1: defense in the National Football League, a defense that gave
- 32:22Speaker 1: up one hundred and thirty yards a game rushing and
- 32:25Speaker 1: almost twenty five and a half points per game. And
- 32:28Speaker 1: for the second game in a row, they're held to
- 32:30Speaker 1: seventeen points. And I think it goes with we talk
- 32:37Speaker 1: about the offensive line being a major problem, but we
- 32:39Speaker 1: cannot overlook the quarterback situation. I mean that out route
- 32:44Speaker 1: he threw the Dotson. You couldn't have telegraphed the pass
- 32:47Speaker 1: any worse, and he had a j wide open in
- 32:50Speaker 1: the middle of the field was a sure six. He
- 32:53Speaker 1: has missed receivers time and time again, and I don't
- 32:56Speaker 1: understand how do you go from the Super Bowl performing
- 33:00Speaker 1: that he had MVP performance that he had in a
- 33:03Speaker 1: Super Bowl to what we've watched now consistently over six games.
- 33:09Speaker 1: He's he's missing receivers. He's like he locks in on
- 33:12Speaker 1: one guy and that's it. In very seldom has he,
- 33:16Speaker 1: except for maybe one game, found that second or third
- 33:19Speaker 1: option in a game. M Yeah.
- 33:22Speaker 2: I think part of it is that he doesn't have
- 33:26Speaker 2: the same level of confidence in the guys up front
- 33:30Speaker 2: wow that he's does. He doesn't over the last especially
- 33:34Speaker 2: last year, he just felt so confident in his protections
- 33:39Speaker 2: that he went back and when he had the ball,
- 33:42Speaker 2: it was he just he had in his mental clock
- 33:46Speaker 2: here he felt like I got time. I got time
- 33:48Speaker 2: to go through one, two, three and make the decision
- 33:52Speaker 2: of where's the place to put the ball, and he
- 33:54Speaker 2: was right most of the time. This year, I just
- 33:59Speaker 2: think it's the whole process has changed, because he doesn't
- 34:02Speaker 2: have the same belief in the guys in front of him,
- 34:05Speaker 2: even when the pressure isn't there. And there were even
- 34:09Speaker 2: if the offensive line didn't play well Thursday night, for sure,
- 34:12Speaker 2: there were some moments in there in terms of pass
- 34:14Speaker 2: protection where he had a lot of time and he
- 34:17Speaker 2: still didn't look comfortable to me. Uh. And then there
- 34:20Speaker 2: were more often than that he seemed hurried and just
- 34:25Speaker 2: taking the first taking the first option, making up his
- 34:28Speaker 2: mind coming out of the huddle. Okay, I'm going to
- 34:30Speaker 2: go here. The dots in play is a perfect example.
- 34:34Speaker 2: I mean, he has aja wide open coming across the middle,
- 34:37Speaker 2: and he forces a ball to the outside and throws it,
- 34:41Speaker 2: throws it late, you know, and which you can't throw
- 34:44Speaker 2: an out late because it's usually going to happen that way,
- 34:47Speaker 2: and he puts it in the wrong spot. You know,
- 34:50Speaker 2: he's throwing back shoulder on a guy running away from him,
- 34:53Speaker 2: which he knows better than that. That ball's got to
- 34:56Speaker 2: be out in front where the receivers the only ones
- 34:59Speaker 2: got a shot at it there. I mean, you could
- 35:02Speaker 2: do a whole seminar on everything that went wrong on
- 35:04Speaker 2: that play. And I think that when you're kind of
- 35:08Speaker 2: in the in where they are right now, where again,
- 35:12Speaker 2: I go back to what Johnson said, I do think
- 35:13Speaker 2: they're very predictable. I think they're predictable in their play calling.
- 35:16Speaker 2: I think they're easy that they're easy to read by formation. Uh,
- 35:20Speaker 2: there's not much variation to it. I mean, my goodness,
- 35:24Speaker 2: I mean, every single play is in the shotgun. I mean,
- 35:30Speaker 2: can you can you do something else once in a while,
- 35:33Speaker 2: you know, I mean put them under center some I mean,
- 35:35Speaker 2: and every time he's under center, you get the feeling
- 35:37Speaker 2: he's just going to hand off. Defenses seem to be
- 35:40Speaker 2: key or where Barkley lines up. Every time they go pistol,
- 35:44Speaker 2: they run the ball, and then you're just locked into
- 35:47Speaker 2: this shotgun formation where it just I mean, it just
- 35:51Speaker 2: seems like they're stuck in the mud. And when you're
- 35:56Speaker 2: kind of where they are right now, there are things
- 35:58Speaker 2: that you could do as a coaching staff. You could
- 35:59Speaker 2: take a lot of the tendencies. If indeed they are
- 36:01Speaker 2: predictable and teams have a book on what they're doing,
- 36:04Speaker 2: which that's sort of what Johnson is alluding to. Okay,
- 36:09Speaker 2: let's make that work to our advantage. Let's give people
- 36:11Speaker 2: that look and then do something else. You know, if
- 36:15Speaker 2: they're really key and on this look and they expect
- 36:17Speaker 2: that they know based on tendencies, okay, this wormation every
- 36:21Speaker 2: time they do this, then do something else. Okay. There's
- 36:24Speaker 2: a way of taking this and working work to your
- 36:27Speaker 2: advantage by being a little creative. And I think this
- 36:31Speaker 2: is you know, you talk about this as a mini buy.
- 36:34Speaker 2: I mean, they had a weekend off. I mean they
- 36:36Speaker 2: have a lot of they have a lot of thinking
- 36:39Speaker 2: and a lot of planning to do here to get
- 36:42Speaker 2: this thing turned around. But you got to get it
- 36:45Speaker 2: turned around quick because a couple of losses like this,
- 36:49Speaker 2: this kind of thinking snowball on you, you know, and
- 36:51Speaker 2: they have to got to get out in front of
- 36:54Speaker 2: this now. Over these next couple of games. Should they
- 36:56Speaker 2: beat the Vikings in Minnesota? Yeah, absolutely they should. Should
- 36:59Speaker 2: they beat the Giant back here? No question? But you know,
- 37:02Speaker 2: I mean, look what happened Thursday night, and then you
- 37:04Speaker 2: get to the buy and then you come out of
- 37:06Speaker 2: the buy and you got green Bay and green Bay
- 37:08Speaker 2: and you got Detroit, who are both really good teams.
- 37:10Speaker 2: So you've got a couple of weeks to kind of
- 37:12Speaker 2: get this thing right. But you don't have any time
- 37:15Speaker 2: to waste. I mean, they got to get this thing
- 37:16Speaker 2: back on track pronto.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Speaking of turning things around, the kick return game is
- 37:22Speaker 1: a disaster right now. I think the Tank Bigsby experiment
- 37:27Speaker 1: is over. But who do you put back there? I mean,
- 37:28Speaker 1: because they are constantly being put in bad field position
- 37:32Speaker 1: to start drives, and right now, while the offense struggles,
- 37:36Speaker 1: there's basically no way of getting themselves out of this.
- 37:38Speaker 1: I don't know how. I don't know who or how
- 37:41Speaker 1: you fix the return game. Who's the answer back there?
- 37:44Speaker 3: Sports are all about competition. Every snap, every possession, every

- 39:46Speaker 4: experience made for Philly fans twenty one and up.
- 39:51Speaker 2: I don't know. I think Bixby's is not that's you know,
- 39:57Speaker 2: I mean that's one of those ncs that acquisition that
- 40:00Speaker 2: Howie would probably like to have back. You give them
- 40:03Speaker 2: two picks for that guy, so they yeah, I mean
- 40:07Speaker 2: that's and there's another side to that whole thing is, yeah,
- 40:11Speaker 2: their kick return game has been terrible and has been
- 40:14Speaker 2: costing the field position. I mean, how many drives they
- 40:17Speaker 2: are starting at the fifteen or inside. But on the
- 40:22Speaker 2: other side of it, you know, your kick coverage hadn't
- 40:25Speaker 2: been that great. You know, the teams are returning the
- 40:28Speaker 2: ball routinely thirty thirty five, and meanwhile you're starting your
- 40:33Speaker 2: drives at the twelve. You know, I mean, Siriana use
- 40:38Speaker 2: the term hidden yards in the kicking game. You know,
- 40:41Speaker 2: those kinds of things, and coaches talk about that all
- 40:44Speaker 2: the time. It's not a small thing. If the other
- 40:48Speaker 2: teams every time they return a kickoff, they're getting it
- 40:50Speaker 2: out to damn near the forty, you're starting inside your
- 40:54Speaker 2: own twenty. That's not a small thing. I mean, and
- 40:58Speaker 2: we have now seen that pretty much every single week.
- 41:02Speaker 2: And that's something else. I mean, they got a million
- 41:04Speaker 2: things to clean up on offensive defense, we know that,
- 41:06Speaker 2: but on the specialty's part of it, I mean they
- 41:09Speaker 2: have to deal with that too. I mean, this is
- 41:11Speaker 2: a field position game, and right now the Eagles are
- 41:14Speaker 2: losing the battle of field position.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Now, after this putrid performance by the Eagles, U and
- 41:20Speaker 1: I hate to bring this to light, but I think
- 41:22Speaker 1: he does warrant mentioning our favorite, our favorite target. AJ
- 41:28Speaker 1: Brown stands in front of the media, and of course
- 41:30Speaker 1: they asked him about the so called meeting that took
- 41:33Speaker 1: place between him, Saquon and Jalen Hurts, and he says,
- 41:38Speaker 1: I don't recall a meeting. Now, he said, a kind
- 41:41Speaker 1: of tongue in cheek when you look at him. I'm
- 41:43Speaker 1: trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. But
- 41:45Speaker 1: he stood there and vehemently denied that there was a meeting,
- 41:49Speaker 1: heels I don't know what they're talking about, and Jalen
- 41:51Speaker 1: confirmed there was a meeting. Why does this guy continue
- 41:55Speaker 1: to unnecessarily bring attention to himself? Right? I just don't
- 41:58Speaker 1: get it with this guy.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Uh yeah, I don't either. I understand his frustration. I
- 42:05Speaker 2: I understand how he's feeling, you know. I mean this
- 42:10Speaker 2: is one of those deals where, uh, it doesn't help anybody.
- 42:17Speaker 2: It doesn't help anybody. I mean all this sort of
- 42:19Speaker 2: passive aggressive stuff, you know, all this you know, cryptic
- 42:25Speaker 2: kinds of messages and communication. You got enough things to
- 42:29Speaker 2: figure out right now with the ex's that those without
- 42:32Speaker 2: trying to read the tea leaves with him every week.
- 42:35Speaker 2: But that's kind of where you are. And I mean
- 42:38Speaker 2: that's part of that's obviously part of his personality. I
- 42:42Speaker 2: mean he's obviously and like a lot of young players,
- 42:45Speaker 2: did nothing unique about this. I mean he is really
- 42:48Speaker 2: he really lives on social media, which you know, I
- 42:52Speaker 2: don't get it, but I know that's for guys of
- 42:55Speaker 2: a certain age that that's the thing. But there are
- 42:59Speaker 2: ways to use it to your advantage, and then there
- 43:01Speaker 2: are ways to use that that can causion more problems.
- 43:04Speaker 2: And I think he tends to cross over that line
- 43:06Speaker 2: too much. The guy that I'm looking at now and
- 43:10Speaker 2: I'm thinking, I'm waiting for him to go off, and
- 43:13Speaker 2: I know it's not his nature, but a couple more
- 43:16Speaker 2: weeks and it will. It is Deafante Smith.
- 43:18Speaker 1: I agree.
- 43:19Speaker 2: I mean, you can kind of see with the way
- 43:21Speaker 2: he's answering questions now that I mean he doesn't want
- 43:24Speaker 2: to go there. I mean, he's not a guy that
- 43:26Speaker 2: wants to be in the middle of any controversy. That's
- 43:28Speaker 2: just that's just not him. And you know, probably a
- 43:32Speaker 2: little part of it was he played for Saban at Alabama,
- 43:35Speaker 2: with Saban's whole thing about that's the rat poison, stay
- 43:37Speaker 2: away from it. I think that's part of it. But
- 43:39Speaker 2: I also think that's his nature. He just wants to play.
- 43:42Speaker 2: He doesn't want to deal with any of the nonsense.
- 43:45Speaker 2: But you can see the frustration in his face. Even
- 43:49Speaker 2: though he's getting his touches and he's getting his yards
- 43:51Speaker 2: and had a pretty good game with Thursday, he's very
- 43:54Speaker 2: frustrated with where they are too. And if this thing
- 43:58Speaker 2: continues down this road right now, I think you're going
- 44:01Speaker 2: to be hearing from him pretty soon. Too.
- 44:03Speaker 1: One final thing, Ray, because you brought this to my
- 44:06Speaker 1: attention and I think it warrants a discussion, is during
- 44:10Speaker 1: the game, we saw the camera's ISO on Giants head
- 44:13Speaker 1: coach Brian Dabele and Jackson Dark goes into the medical
- 44:18Speaker 1: tent to get checked for a concussion, and Dabell is
- 44:21Speaker 1: just undressing, verbally undressing the doctor on the sideline. Right,
- 44:25Speaker 1: I'll get my guy back in here. That's not a
- 44:28Speaker 1: good look for a head coach. Ray that's appeared to
- 44:33Speaker 1: be more concerned about the player getting back in the
- 44:36Speaker 1: field than he was his health. Now, he apologized after
- 44:38Speaker 1: the game, but the damage is already done.
- 44:41Speaker 2: Absolutely absolutely, uh And you know, I mean what he's
- 44:45Speaker 2: basically telling is like I've seen enough of Russell Wilson. Okay,
- 44:49Speaker 2: get him out of there, get him, get him out
- 44:51Speaker 2: of the tent, and get him on the field. I
- 44:53Speaker 2: mean that's what he's saying. Yeah, I mean. And Dable
- 44:55Speaker 2: tried to say after the game, Well, all I did
- 44:57Speaker 2: is I stuck my head in the tent. Just ask
- 44:59Speaker 2: Callie's do as the kid asked my player how he's doing.
- 45:02Speaker 2: You can't do that. The rules that you can't do
- 45:05Speaker 2: that in that tent. No coaches and no other players
- 45:08Speaker 2: are in there. It's just the doctors and the trainers
- 45:11Speaker 2: are the only ones in there. So you know what
- 45:15Speaker 2: that says to me is I hate to say this,
- 45:20Speaker 2: but it's you know, the coaches. A lot of the
- 45:26Speaker 2: coaches are in the league talk a good game when
- 45:28Speaker 2: it comes to the CTE thing. Yeah, you know, I'm
- 45:30Speaker 2: concerned about my players players safety is that is foremost
- 45:34Speaker 2: in my mind. I'm always thinking about my players and
- 45:36Speaker 2: their welfare. No, you're not. You're thinking about games. And
- 45:42Speaker 2: what you saw on Thursday was exactly that. Brian Dable
- 45:46Speaker 2: he wanted Jackson Dark back on the field.
- 45:49Speaker 1: Uh.
- 45:50Speaker 2: And he went in the tent and I guarantee you
- 45:52Speaker 2: that's what he said in there. And then when the
- 45:55Speaker 2: doctor came out and was telling him we're not done
- 45:57Speaker 2: with our examination yet, he gave the doctor a earful
- 46:00Speaker 2: You can't have that, Okay. If you're gonna if you're
- 46:04Speaker 2: gonna be really true to this idea of making this
- 46:06Speaker 2: a quote unquote safer game, then coaches can't be doing
- 46:10Speaker 2: things like that. The rules are written to tell you
- 46:13Speaker 2: what you can and can't do. Dable went over the
- 46:15Speaker 2: way over the line and interestingly enough, I don't know
- 46:19Speaker 2: if you saw it, but a day later, John Marat
- 46:22Speaker 2: talked about it. Yep, you know, the Giants owner said,
- 46:25Speaker 2: I think he used the term that it was inappropriate
- 46:29Speaker 2: what what his head coach did? Uh, And I will
- 46:32Speaker 2: tell you I know John. I know John Maraw well
- 46:35Speaker 2: enough to know that. I think he is one of
- 46:38Speaker 2: the people within the league who does who who does
- 46:42Speaker 2: worry about this stuff. I think he is. And I
- 46:45Speaker 2: don't mean just appearances, but I think he does worry
- 46:48Speaker 2: about players welfare. I think he I think he would
- 46:50Speaker 2: go the extra mile in terms of player safety. I
- 46:53Speaker 2: think it is. I think it is something he's very
- 46:56Speaker 2: sensitive to. Uh. And even coming off this tremendous win,
- 47:00Speaker 2: which was great for their organization, all that stuff, he
- 47:03Speaker 2: had no problem when asked about it to publicly say, yes,
- 47:08Speaker 2: what the coach did there was inappropriate and it was
- 47:12Speaker 2: And you know, this is something that's going to get
- 47:14Speaker 2: I mean, the Players Association is going to get involved
- 47:18Speaker 2: and this is not going to go away. I mean
- 47:20Speaker 2: this is going to be talked about because what happened
- 47:23Speaker 2: and then what got on TV and what people saw
- 47:26Speaker 2: is that is not the message that the league or
- 47:29Speaker 2: that the league or the Coaches Association wants to put
- 47:32Speaker 2: out there.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Well, it appeared for most of this game like the
- 47:36Speaker 1: Eagles were playing like they all had concussions on both
- 47:39Speaker 1: sides of the football. And hopefully they come out of
- 47:41Speaker 1: it in time to get it right against the Minnesota Vikings.
- 47:44Speaker 1: And of course Ray and I will be here to
- 47:46Speaker 1: break it all down for you next week. So until
- 47:49Speaker 1: next week, this has been Bird's Weekly, presented by the
- 47:53Speaker 1: Inside the Birds Network for my friend Ray didn't drum,
- 47:56Speaker 1: Derek Gunn. We'll see you next time, everybody, hopefully with
- 47:58Speaker 1: better results.
- 48:00Speaker 2: Looking up bow Bump
