Latest / Brandon Fogal Evolution / #174 - Sydney Sweeney’s “Great Jeans” Ad Is America's Mirror
Transcript
- 0:00So the Sidney Sweeney debacle right now is a crisis that has hit the United States.
- 0:06Everybody is going crazy over this girl and over this ad that American Eagle
- 0:10decided to run that she has great genes, which I don't think is such a big deal.
- 0:16And I think that this whole idea and this whole ad is just a mirror that is
- 0:22put to the face of America and is showing us who we really are.
- 0:25If we're going to get mad about this, then maybe there are some other things
- 0:30we got to work through before we even look at this ad.
- 0:32Because this is insane to me that she is being just raked through the coals
- 0:38and all she did was just, she did the ad.
- 0:40But she's just getting buried and just getting hit on, play on words,
- 0:45by a lot of people based on what she did by running this ad.
- 0:49I don't even know if she was in.
- 0:50It was probably just marketing people at AE that they knew this was just going
- 0:54to cause people to go up in arms. And they were right.
- 0:58All right, we're going to take a look at this. This is from the TMZ that shows
- 1:01that people, most people are not as mad as social media has made it out to be.
- 1:07It says American Eagle and Sidney Sweeney, vast majority like her ad.
- 1:12Social media isn't real life. And that's exactly what I think.
- 1:17American Eagles feeling about it, its new Sidney Sweeney commercial.
- 1:21Despite all the controversy, they might have good reason to blow off critics
- 1:24claiming the ad focuses on Nazi-like eugenics, pushing blonde hair and blue eyes as aspirational.
- 1:32Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ the ad campaign is creating tremendous
- 1:36buzz and their independent polling showed the vast majority of folks around
- 1:4070% find the commercial appealing.
- 1:44That is exactly just my gut reaction when I'm seeing all this,
- 1:48all this is doing is just making American Eagle stock just look so good and
- 1:54so enticing. It's the same Chick-fil-A effect.
- 1:56If you remember that where everybody like maybe it was like five years ago that
- 2:00were just just boycotting Chick-fil-A might have been a little bit older than that.
- 2:04Said that you're evil if you go eat at Chick-fil-A. And it was based on something
- 2:08about probably transgenderism or something, a gay comment made by Dan Cathy,
- 2:13the CEO, or something like that.
- 2:15But all it did was, it's just like publicity, either good publicity or bad publicity.
- 2:21It always works for the good of the company because all people are going to
- 2:25remember, this is going to blow over and people are going to move past this.
- 2:28There's going to be another Sidney Sweeney effect next week that's going to be totally different.
- 2:32And all people are going to remember was that American Eagle was emblazoned on their mind.
- 2:38Right now I'm wearing some American Eagle and I actually, I don't have much
- 2:41of it, but I would definitely want to go out there and get more of it just because
- 2:46they were a company that was willing to go against the grain and their comment.
- 2:51If you've seen their comment lately, their apology was just hilarious.
- 2:56It's absolutely hilarious what they said about this whole event and people's reactions.
- 3:01The spot centers around sydney buttoning up her
- 3:04ae jeans and touting her biological makeup where she
- 3:07breath breathily says jeans are passed down
- 3:10from parents to offspring often determining traits
- 3:13like hair color personality and even eye color my
- 3:16jeans are blue the promo is catching flack
- 3:20on social media tiktokers all over the world slandered sydney
- 3:22and ae for what they say in an
- 3:25ad filled with implicit racism so it's
- 3:28everybody's turning this on like as in racist as
- 3:31like that a a is being racist sydney
- 3:34is being racist by just being her i
- 3:38mean like we've all heard about like some people are blessed with good genes
- 3:43or some people are not like just like i don't have the greatest genes of my
- 3:48hair i don't have i don't have my hair and then also like i i'm not a person
- 3:53that is like naturally just that I,
- 3:55I'm going to get ripped and get buff and strong.
- 3:58And just like, you understand that some people have better genes than that.
- 4:01Like, and I guess that if you are seeing it as that she has the perfect genes
- 4:05and that offends you, then you are implicitly saying that she has the best genes.
- 4:12Like naturally, like she has God given genes that are better than yours or something.
- 4:16If you're going to get mad about it, rather, I see all the time that people
- 4:20say, I am so, I'm so thank God I'm black or thank God I'm whatever ethnicity it's like.
- 4:27I wouldn't say let's be proud of our race, like our ethnicity,
- 4:32but be thankful for whatever ethnicity you are, whatever color you are,
- 4:37whatever blessings God has given you, be thankful for that, you know?
- 4:41But if it's pissing you off that she got this ad and that she's doing this,
- 4:46then all it does is just show your heart.
- 4:49You know, they say the Bible is like, it's a mirror to us. this ad is almost
- 4:53a current day natural mirror to the United States of America.
- 4:58I want to switch over to X, just the hot, like if you, if you go to X,
- 5:03Instagram, anything right now, you will see everything about Sydney Sweeney.
- 5:07You said, this is the iconic photo of her, you know, nothing but denim,
- 5:11nothing but denim. There's her jeans, there's her jeans.
- 5:13And some people on here are just they're just
- 5:16rage raging over this
- 5:19over just and I don't understand it like
- 5:22I honestly I do not understand why
- 5:25people are going so crazy about her I had never really heard too much about
- 5:29her before this whole event I'd probably seen her face but I guarantee now everybody
- 5:33knows her name everybody knows what she brings to the table and she's going
- 5:37to bring attention but really the the stars behind this whole situation was
- 5:42definitely the American Eagle marketing team.
- 5:45They are the ones, they are the ones who cooked this whole thing up.
- 5:49They probably had no idea it was going to blow up this much,
- 5:52but it shows you for any company out there, if you are willing to go against
- 5:56the grain, you're willing to be politically incorrect.
- 6:00You will always eventually be turned out to be right.
- 6:04You will be turned out that you're going to get the eyes on you and you're going to get the attention.
- 6:08And when people go to buy something, you're going to be somebody that stood
- 6:11for what you believed in.
- 6:13And I know they're making a joke of it. I almost want to find out what is American
- 6:18Eagles. Okay, this is what it was said, if you can see it on there.
- 6:21It was said, this is American Eagles' formal apology.
- 6:24They said, to whom it may concern, we sincerely apologize for featuring Sydney
- 6:29Sweeney in our recent advertisement.
- 6:31In hindsight, we underestimated the combined impact of her blue eyes,
- 6:35blonde hair, and general hotness.
- 6:37Also, we did not realize how big her boobs would be.
- 6:40Our marketing team has been sent to denim sensitivity training.
- 6:45Thank you for your feedback. Please stop emailing us.
- 6:48That is absolutely hilarious because that is the absolutely correct reaction
- 6:53that they should have over this whole storm, this whole like explosion that
- 6:58has happened that they created.
- 7:00Any, anything you go on and you touch on race or anything like that,
- 7:03or genetics, people are going to go up in arms and people are going to find
- 7:06something, you know, and it didn't hurt the person that they selected to be
- 7:11put out there because she definitely grabs attention, grabs eyes.
- 7:15So where are you all at on this whole controversy? Do you think that Sidney
- 7:20Sweeney has done anything wrong?
- 7:21You think American Eagle did anything wrong? Are you going to go out there and
- 7:25buy some American Eagle if you don't have it?
- 7:27I'm a person that I wouldn't be afraid to go out there. Just like the same thing
- 7:31when the whole Tesla thing was blowing up.
- 7:33Literally, I was like, this makes me want to go and get a Tesla.
- 7:38I never even thought about getting one, but just people doing this and this
- 7:41reaction, what made me want to go out there and get a Tesla.
