Transcript
- 0:00Get laced up. Let's go!
- 0:02It's time for Banter with the Boys.
- 0:13Yo, welcome back to Banter with the Boys.
- 0:15Fast laps, we got the Belgian recap coming at you today,
- 0:19and then kind of a summer break preview.
- 0:22But before we get into all that,
- 0:24we are again brought to you by the Cappy this episode.
- 0:30Again, the Cappy.
- 0:32You can get these on Amazon, four pack.
- 0:36And it's kind of ironic that of course,
- 0:38this episode is sponsored by the Cappy,
- 0:41heading into summer break for F1.
- 0:43You know what I mean?
- 0:44So like what...
- 0:46Obviously we're gonna be off for a little bit.
- 0:48What are you gonna do with your summer break from F1?
- 0:51I will be poolside.
- 0:52Poolside, oh that's right, you got a pool.
- 0:54As much as I can. Got it open.
- 0:56It's as clear as day.
- 0:58Little bit dirt on the bottom, still can't get that out,
- 1:00but that's alright.
- 1:01We're swimming, boys.
- 1:02We're swimming, boys.
- 1:03And of course, in Minnesota, it gets hot and muggy and
- 1:06mosquito-y. Our state bird is a mosquito.
- 1:11You can keep them out of there with the Cappy.
- 1:13Absolutely. No worries at all.
- 1:14Got kids jumping in the pool.
- 1:16No pool water gets in my drink.
- 1:17For sure, for sure.
- 1:18Joe, summer break, what are you doing?
- 1:21Well, obviously I'm researching more F1, right?
- 1:23I mean, I feel like the F1 season never ends.
- 1:25It goes from February to December.
- 1:27We get that one month off.
- 1:28Well, for true F1 fans, it's 12-month season.
- 1:31It's a 12-month season.
- 1:32So besides that, however, I mean, yes, summer is a great
- 1:35time to get together with friends, you know, share a
- 1:38couple brews, a couple jokes.
- 1:40Cappy's really good with a bunch of people, you know.
- 1:43You have this little key ring here thing, so you can hold a
- 1:45lot of them at the same time and they're different colors.
- 1:46So you're all drinking the same thing.
- 1:48You can make sure that you're not sipping from someone else's
- 1:50drink.
- 1:52Yeah, I always forget they are color coordinated.
- 1:54You can kind of plan that out.
- 1:55Yeah.
- 1:56You just got to put a little tape on your shirt so you can
- 1:59remember yourself which one is yours.
- 2:00Ah, good point.
- 2:01Yeah.
- 2:02Or you just get two.
- 2:03Keep one on your key chain.
- 2:05I feel like that's just not going to go well after a good
- 2:08old day of Cappy and...
- 2:11Of Cappy and...
- 2:11Well, with that, again, thanks to the Cappy for sponsoring
- 2:14this episode.
- 2:15Let's dive right into that Belgian recap.
- 2:24And of course, before we run, I mean drive right into the
- 2:28Belgian recap.
- 2:31You'd think this guy's the dad over here.
- 2:33Yeah.
- 2:34No, zero kids so far.
- 2:36Let's roll right into obviously who we got next to me, Joe,
- 2:39our co-host.
- 2:40Joe, what's going on this week?
- 2:43Nothing much, you know.
- 2:44Just busy, busy week.
- 2:46I love Spa.
- 2:47It was a really fun race to watch.
- 2:49Sad it's over.
- 2:50Sad we have the summer break.
- 2:52I know I joked about being in F1 all the summer break, but
- 2:56there's only so much you can do.
- 2:57Hopefully, silly season is truly silly.
- 2:58That'd be nice.
- 2:59Going to Road America this week, then?
- 3:00I'm going to Road America doing sports car.
- 3:02Definitely different from F1.
- 3:03Very, very different from F1.
- 3:05I know every time I go, I'm always asking questions of the
- 3:07people I go with because I'm always in the F1 kind of rule
- 3:10mindset and it's just so different.
- 3:12Sure, sure.
- 3:13So if you see Joe out at Road America this weekend, come say
- 3:16what's up.
- 3:17And obviously next to Joe, we got Tyler.
- 3:19Tyler, what's going on?
- 3:20Not much, man.
- 3:21Little bittersweet today is I'm going to be taking a little
- 3:24break from the pod here, welcoming my third child into
- 3:27the world.
- 3:28So I'm going to have to go be a dad, but I'm excited to be
- 3:31here, man.
- 3:32Fun race.
- 3:33It was Spa.
- 3:34Spa's always fun.
- 3:35I love racing that track.
- 3:36I love just going through and Roche.
- 3:37It's my favorite part of the entire game.
- 3:39I want to agree with you so bad.
- 3:42My track record there is not good.
- 3:45No pun intended.
- 3:46I got full of them.
- 3:47We're on fire today.
- 3:48All right.
- 3:49Let's just move on.
- 3:50Nobody's listening.
- 3:51So let's roll right into Quali before we get to the results,
- 3:56which were wild.
- 3:57Quali was kind of interesting to me.
- 4:00Obviously Max, you know, getting pulled, but not because of the
- 4:05grid penalty.
- 4:06So he didn't even just get pulled.
- 4:07He got pulled by half a second.
- 4:08Right.
- 4:09He was killed.
- 4:10He was so fast all weekend.
- 4:13It really shows just like, I mean, do you guys, I guess, do you guys think it's the
- 4:17driver that's good in the rain or if it's still the car that has the superiority?
- 4:21Because I mean, once the rain went away, obviously people were a little more even matched, but
- 4:26he was dominating.
- 4:27Like there was like no question who was the fastest on Saturday by any means.
- 4:32I think it would have been closer if the rain wasn't there.
- 4:34Yeah.
- 4:35Like I definitely think, you know, experience comes into play with that.
- 4:37The car, I don't know, because Sergio, I mean, Sergio did so good too, right?
- 4:41We haven't seen that in a really long time.
- 4:43What a great Quali from Sergio.
- 4:45So it might have something to do with the car.
- 4:47But I mean, are they, I guess, I don't, I don't know how much teams would effort they
- 4:50would put into making cars better in the rain versus better overall and how much they're
- 4:54like, I don't know.
- 4:55I mean, that's an interesting question.
- 4:56That's an interesting question because like the Red Bulls look stupid fast on Saturday
- 5:02and did not have the pace Sunday.
- 5:04Max had the pace.
- 5:05Yeah, one of them had the pace.
- 5:06I would say that the car necessarily didn't because there's, I mean, the car is what held
- 5:09Max Bane, you know, a podium, let alone winning this race.
- 5:13Like he's done the last two years from 11th after a grid penalty.
- 5:17Yeah.
- 5:18No, true, true.
- 5:20Yeah, I just agree with everything you guys said.
- 5:24Obviously Red Bull, Max specifically, but Red Bull was the fastest of the weekend, including
- 5:29quality, and then obviously if we get into the results now, Chacko did not quite.
- 5:40I don't know.
- 5:41That was the biggest disappointment for me.
- 5:42But before we even get into that, sorry, I'm jumping the gun here.
- 5:46We had George Russell winning the race only to be DQ'd in post.
- 5:53And what, what it was because he was overweight, underweight, underweight, underweight.
- 5:57That's what it was.
- 5:58Like 1.5 kilos, I think.
- 5:591.5 kilos or 3.3 pounds.
- 6:01Gotcha.
- 6:02Underweight.
- 6:03And that's because he used more fuel.
- 6:06Is what, it wasn't fuel related they said?
- 6:08They tried to trick the FIA from a little fuel draining, but you have to drain the car.
- 6:12I think it's like 1.5 liters of fuel.
- 6:14It's a certain amount of fuel you have to actually like leave in the car post race for,
- 6:19we actually like touched on it.
- 6:20No, not for weight purposes.
- 6:21So the car doesn't run out of gas on the track.
- 6:24So it's, we actually learned that from Joe earlier this year in the pod.
- 6:30But it was like, I don't know, it just, something seemed fishy about the, not that like George
- 6:34was able to do a one stop.
- 6:36He drove the best, the race of his life.
- 6:39It was an absolutely phenomenal performance by him.
- 6:41Seriously.
- 6:42I don't think that can be taken away.
- 6:43I don't know how much 1.5 kilos truly does matter, right?
- 6:46Did he have that over this course of the last, what, 30 laps he didn't pit?
- 6:50Are those tires going to manage as well?
- 6:52I don't know.
- 6:53It's just automatic, two bit little, little inside baseball for me.
- 6:58But it sucks for George.
- 7:00It sucks for George.
- 7:01But Toto like, I don't know, Toto just looked fishy after the race.
- 7:05The whole, he didn't like, when you get a one, two.
- 7:08He almost knew.
- 7:09Yeah.
- 7:10I just noticed that too.
- 7:11He just looked so fishy after race.
- 7:13Like he didn't, like even when they finished, he didn't get like excited like he usually
- 7:16does, you know, hop on the radio, hyping up.
- 7:19Like they got a one, two.
- 7:20He already knew that they were going to be DQ.
- 7:21Yeah, that is weird.
- 7:23He really had no, there was no emotion.
- 7:25Like, you know, it was just like, there was just nothing.
- 7:27And he just FaceTime Suzy.
- 7:28That is super weird.
- 7:29That is super weird.
- 7:30Um, what it at least does show you, if you're a Mercedes fan, that the team's absolutely
- 7:36going to be going in the right direction at the hands of George Russell.
- 7:39I mean, I'd feel pretty good right now.
- 7:42And I mean, they just keep getting better and better, more consistent as far as like
- 7:46podiums go, obviously the DQ this race.
- 7:49But I mean, Lewis right behind him.
- 7:51Yep.
- 7:52And not only was he right behind him, Lewis was still charging there at the end too.
- 7:55Yeah, he got past right behind him too, which was also coming.
- 7:58But just seeing Mercedes one, two is insane right now.
- 8:03I just two years ago, I would have never thought we were going to get this close to seeing
- 8:07it again, to be honest with you.
- 8:09Yeah.
- 8:10After Lewis and Botas and I don't know.
- 8:14Anything else on Mercedes Joe that you saw?
- 8:17Yeah, it's just, it's truly a bummer.
- 8:18I agree with you and I heard that there was a lot of speculation on Mercedes maybe knowing
- 8:22about it and reading the penalty notes.
- 8:26It seemed like that they, they did not argue about it at all.
- 8:29They did not.
- 8:30They're not trying to appeal it.
- 8:31They just were like, yep, this is, this is how it is.
- 8:34I don't know exactly how the weighing process happens and what exactly is weighed.
- 8:39But I know that something that the drivers typically do is pick up rubber before they
- 8:44go into the pits.
- 8:46And after hitting the checkered flag, they were told to just turn around into the pit,
- 8:50into the pit exit.
- 8:51So they had no, no time to pick up rubber.
- 8:55And that's, that's how it's, that's a spa thing.
- 8:57It's like one of the, it's one of the only tracks that you just turn around in the pit
- 9:00exit.
- 9:01There's no formation lap or victory lap, whatever.
- 9:03It was all the cars.
- 9:04That makes sense.
- 9:05I found that interesting.
- 9:07If you're weighed with those tires, that's a couple, I don't know if it's 3.3 pounds,
- 9:12but it's definitely a little bit of weight, but that could have been added.
- 9:14But if you know that that's the way it's going to be at spa, you'd think you'd also plan
- 9:18for that.
- 9:19I think it was underweight.
- 9:20We're talking numbers.
- 9:21I would never consider.
- 9:23I think no other car was underweight.
- 9:25I'm trying to, I'm hoping that it's not Mercedes trying to cheat, but instead it's just them
- 9:31trying to play the system and play a little risky and it just didn't work.
- 9:35I mean, he, he was on those tires for a really long time.
- 9:38So let's, let's say they, they just played the risk right and lost, right?
- 9:44You still can't take away what George said in the race.
- 9:47Like I said, again, I'm feeling pretty good.
- 9:49Like that George might be able to battle with the McLaren's, you know, I think that I think
- 9:55so.
- 9:56Yeah.
- 9:57The only thing with it too, it's like, it was bittersweet when it, the race ended right
- 10:01for Lewis because Lewis drove a phenomenal race, right?
- 10:05He was net P one the entire race.
- 10:07Yeah.
- 10:08Like the entire, even at the end, he was still like, is George's tires going to make it right?
- 10:12He drove like Mercedes strategy better than anybody else's on that race.
- 10:17That's for sure.
- 10:18But, and it's, it's like, it, it, it's kind of bittersweet for Lewis, right?
- 10:22Cause he deserved to win the race with how we drove.
- 10:24He deserved to win that race.
- 10:25And then he did win under a quality, like a, a class of, what's it called?
- 10:31Like under a, there's a word that's just slipping my mind right now.
- 10:35Under a, oh yeah.
- 10:36And now I can't think of it either.
- 10:38Like under, yeah, that's really going to bother me.
- 10:40And then I'm going to learn it.
- 10:42I'm going to think of it in like three minutes and then it'll all be gone.
- 10:44Comment on it on the video at the time stamp.
- 10:50But for overall, still really good showing for Mercedes.
- 10:53You know, George had no business winning this race.
- 10:56It is a good showing for Mercedes, but like before we quick depart from, from Mercedes,
- 11:00it still sucks losing that one too.
- 11:03And the contractors, like that's, that's, that's big, right?
- 11:06How much, 25 points lost.
- 11:09It's 25 points lost.
- 11:1018 points lost.
- 11:1118, yeah, that's what I mean.
- 11:12Oh yeah, because Lewis picks up the 7th.
- 11:13Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:14It's 18 points.
- 11:15But like that's, that would have been a nice chunk to pick up right now.
- 11:20And we'll get into like the recap of that a little bit later, like where everybody's
- 11:23laid a little bit later, but that 18 points for George would have been huge too.
- 11:27Or the 25 points for George, shall I say.
- 11:29Ooh, I am curious.
- 11:30Yeah, we'll look at that later.
- 11:31I'm curious where he would have been.
- 11:33Like it's just, it's good and bad for Mercedes, right?
- 11:36You won the race.
- 11:37It is good.
- 11:38It's good, but it's, I think.
- 11:39For me, and it's good for Lewis, but I think it's, that outweighs the good.
- 11:44That outweighs the good for Mercedes this week.
- 11:46Especially going into summer break.
- 11:48Now you got three weeks for, what is it, four weeks?
- 11:51Three weeks, right?
- 11:52Three weeks, yeah, three weeks.
- 11:53For people to just sit and stir on this.
- 11:54You're taking a win into summer.
- 11:55Don't get me wrong.
- 11:56That's better than any other team, right?
- 11:57But it could have been so much better, and that's, that's what sucks.
- 12:00Yeah.
- 12:01Somebody lose their job for that.
- 12:03Yeah.
- 12:04I ended up watching, I had to watch Spa a little late.
- 12:06Low level guys.
- 12:07You're done.
- 12:08I had to watch Spa a little late, like a little bit later in the day because I was busy in
- 12:12the morning, and I unfortunately got spoiled about George getting disqualified.
- 12:15So like the whole race, I'm like, well, hopefully he doesn't get too high and it's not too bad
- 12:19of a loss.
- 12:20Man.
- 12:21So you were still surprised at that.
- 12:24That was rough.
- 12:25Yeah.
- 12:26Well, yeah, once I got to like lap 35, I was like, oh no.
- 12:28Yeah.
- 12:29I didn't know why he got disqualified, but I knew he got disqualified.
- 12:32So yeah, that was, that was rough to watch, but.
- 12:35Well, enough about Mercedes woes and highs and lows, I guess in that race.
- 12:41We'll move right into McLaren, Oscar finishing P3, but getting the P2 after the Russell DQ.
- 12:51What a race from him.
- 12:52And like I already mentioned, he was charging at the end.
- 12:56I mean, he's, he's showing that, no, he's for real.
- 12:59He can battle with the big boys right now.
- 13:01Yeah.
- 13:02He's not scared of it.
- 13:03I mean, I remember watching, I don't know, a couple of episodes ago, like when he's,
- 13:05if he's going into a battle, into a corner, he's not backing out of it.
- 13:08It reminds me a little bit of Ocon, but he succeeds a little bit more with it.
- 13:11No, no, no, no.
- 13:12He succeeds a little bit more with it.
- 13:13Come on.
- 13:14He succeeds more with it.
- 13:15It's not even close to Ocon.
- 13:16Ocon does the same thing, but he runs into people.
- 13:19The same thing.
- 13:20Allegedly.
- 13:21Yeah, allegedly.
- 13:22No, yeah, I was, I mean, it's like what I said in last week's preview.
- 13:26I just think he's really comfortable on this track.
- 13:28He got second place in the sprint last year and just got unlucky at the start with signs
- 13:32during the race.
- 13:33I knew he was going to do something this race and give a few more laps.
- 13:38He catches the Mercedes and he fights them.
- 13:40I don't know.
- 13:41I don't know if he beats them, but he fights them for sure.
- 13:43He was, he was quick.
- 13:45I was incredibly happy to see him up there.
- 13:49Now not taking away anything from Oscar, but if Lando can figure out how to, how to start
- 13:56a race, I just, it's, it's every race.
- 14:00We know we've mentioned it before.
- 14:02And what is there to do?
- 14:04It's concerning at this point.
- 14:05At this point, I mean, at this point he's, he's literally losing races.
- 14:09I'm not saying he would have won this race.
- 14:10I don't think.
- 14:11Not this one specifically, but he's, he probably would have fought for a fault or got a podium
- 14:16with the way that how quick that McLaren was with Mercedes DQ happened to be a DQ.
- 14:22What is, what is wrong?
- 14:23I don't, I don't think it's nothing in the car.
- 14:26Oscar's starting or he, Oscar's, Oscar's almost on like a max level starting right now.
- 14:30Right.
- 14:31And, and it's just back on the Oscar point though, more like Alonso than Ocon.
- 14:36I'll give you the start.
- 14:37Give you the start.
- 14:38Alonso's got good starts.
- 14:39No, I'm just saying in terms of the battle.
- 14:42Oh God.
- 14:43Oh God.
- 14:44It's Alonso puts the elbows out.
- 14:45I don't know what I'm saying.
- 14:46Like I'm, oh God, this could be a conversation, but yeah, I'll give it to you.
- 14:51But yeah, no, it's, it's with, with Lando, it's like, it's actually concerning because
- 14:55I mean, like the last couple of races probably would have won if he would have started better.
- 14:59And then like he gets, he even this one, he had the space.
- 15:03He's just, he needs to be fight a, he needs to have a little bit more pastry and I'm in
- 15:07the start.
- 15:08Cause we're like Lando's getting pushed out and just like taking that Oscar's not, he's
- 15:14taking that space.
- 15:15We're talking about a guy that just last, last episode we were talking about that could
- 15:20be considered eventually winning a driver championship.
- 15:24And right now it's like, I don't think if he can't get past this, can he even do that?
- 15:30Yeah.
- 15:31It's just been like a bad swat three off the start.
- 15:33I think he lost three.
- 15:34Yeah.
- 15:35He did lose.
- 15:36He lost three positions or something.
- 15:37Yeah.
- 15:38Three positions almost immediately.
- 15:39It's definitely a bad quirk this season.
- 15:41I don't think I've seen it much from him other seasons.
- 15:43It's something he's got to work on.
- 15:46I will kind of, I'll give him a little bit benefit of doubt last race.
- 15:49I think they were, I think they were saying, they were saying, I'm saying they being the
- 15:54team and, and himself, we're saying that I think he was having some like gear changing
- 15:58issues right off the launch in last race.
- 16:01That being said way too many race starts for it to be just like a, like a, like a, you
- 16:05know, a technical issue.
- 16:07I just think he needs to get better at them.
- 16:08If it's a technical issue, hire a new technical director.
- 16:12Yeah.
- 16:13It's like you're, you're losing races at this point.
- 16:15It's not just like a one race hiccup that he just didn't have a good reaction time.
- 16:19Right?
- 16:20Like that's not what it is.
- 16:21Like, do we have a crystal ball, is he for sure losing right? like all these races?
- 16:24Like maybe he's definitely losing a couple.
- 16:26We would imagine.
- 16:27Well, they're definitely losing out on points, like valuable.
- 16:31Yeah.
- 16:32Even if it's not even a win, right?
- 16:34It's a podium.
- 16:35Yeah.
- 16:36It's like, they're just, they're, I don't know.
- 16:38I mean, do I, I think he could turn it around and actually instill put a fight to max, but
- 16:45to do that, Oscar's going to have to slow down a little bit.
- 16:48Well, and that's, and that's just it.
- 16:51Like, do you think McLaren strategy, we talked about it the last step, but you think McLaren
- 16:55strategy at this point, every race should be whoever gets Cole's speaking to Cole.
- 17:01I didn't, I forgot to mention that he's not here.
- 17:03As you see, there's three of us.
- 17:05Cole is missing today.
- 17:06So we have no dark web news at all.
- 17:09So no wonder we don't know anything today.
- 17:11Um, dang, where was I going with that?
- 17:15Hmm.
- 17:16What was the time?
- 17:18I don't remember.
- 17:19I know we're talking about Norris.
- 17:20Um, I do have a quote on him talking about his spark, his starts just right away.
- 17:25And then maybe you can rethink about what we're talking about.
- 17:27Um, so he, he, he, he's quoted saying some of my starts have not been great.
- 17:31I've lost a good amount of points off the line and now turn one again, easily a podium
- 17:36or even more.
- 17:37There isn't one reason I was just trying a bit too hard and paying a price for that.
- 17:41Um, and yeah, I mean, he just, yeah, he just, I don't know.
- 17:45It's just the fighting right off the line.
- 17:46I don't know.
- 17:47Maybe it's, I don't want to say it's like confidence.
- 17:49It's just, I don't know, bad timing.
- 17:51Sometimes I hate to say like, you know, he's getting bad luck after all these races, right?
- 17:56It's just, no, it's becoming more consistent.
- 17:58Yeah.
- 17:59There's an American term for it that you don't say in sports.
- 18:01It's a four letter word and it starts with Y.
- 18:06I'm not going to say it because I'm a McLaren fan.
- 18:09I'm surprised you're not getting it.
- 18:10Oops.
- 18:11It's, it's more commonly referred in baseball.
- 18:13It's a four letter word begins with Y ends with S. Ah, it's the yips.
- 18:19Oh, the yips.
- 18:20Okay.
- 18:21Yeah.
- 18:22No, I'm glad you said that because I would have been, this would have been a really long
- 18:24episode.
- 18:25I was just like being silent trying to figure it out.
- 18:28But it's, that's, I mean, is that like, I don't know.
- 18:30It's just so weird.
- 18:31Before every race?
- 18:32It's so weird.
- 18:33I mean, maybe it is starting to affect him.
- 18:35Maybe he's starting to feel a little bit of that pressure.
- 18:38Everybody else, including us, obviously he listens to us.
- 18:40We're talking about him as a potential, you know, world champion someday.
- 18:45And maybe that's starting to actually affect him.
- 18:47Well, I mean, to, to be a McLaren fan here, it did come out afterwards that he dealt,
- 18:54he dealt with the death of his grandmother in the week last week.
- 18:57So that was getting to him all weekend and going into the weekend.
- 18:59But again, I mean, I'm not going to say you're an excuse it because.
- 19:02Right now we all feel like big jerks.
- 19:03Well, no, it's not one race that has happened.
- 19:05Right, right, right.
- 19:07But, I mean, he still drove the strategy again, hurt Lando in this race.
- 19:13Like they, they waited long in the first stint, allowed Max to gain some position there.
- 19:18And then when Max pitted, they pitted right after.
- 19:20So they didn't, they, it's just the strategy is just really, really hurting Lando and McLaren
- 19:25right now.
- 19:27Not saying that it ultimately would have mattered because Lando had the ability to catch Max
- 19:31and he didn't, couldn't, he had, you know, he was gaining on him and he just wasn't able
- 19:36to pass him.
- 19:37No, no.
- 19:38So.
- 19:39And that, that difference in, you know, it ended up being fourth and fifth, that three
- 19:43points or what is it?
- 19:44Yeah, the three points in the grand schemes of where they're at right now and how much
- 19:47they need to like, he needs to just slowly knock that down.
- 19:52That's going to hurt him.
- 19:53No, for sure.
- 19:54Joe, any parting thoughts on McLaren since, since you are a McLaren fan that wears a Mercedes
- 19:58hat?
- 19:59Definitely.
- 20:00You're right.
- 20:01Definitely opposing strategies for Lando.
- 20:04I still think it's not strategy that, that like made him have a bad race.
- 20:08It was just his driving, unfortunately.
- 20:09Absolutely.
- 20:10I think the strategy just cost him, you know, fourth versus fifth.
- 20:14Sure.
- 20:15Or it could have.
- 20:16So heading into break, then McLaren knows exactly what they need to be looking at fixing.
- 20:21Yep.
- 20:22To say the least.
- 20:23Cars there.
- 20:24It's a rocket ship right now.
- 20:25But it's been the same.
- 20:26It's been, we've been saying the same thing the last few races, all of us up here.
- 20:29It's strategy, strategy, strategy, and they're not changing anything.
- 20:32Lewis is even trying to compliment the car and getting snarky remarks.
- 20:38Oh no, I love his response to that though.
- 20:41Were you even here seven years ago?
- 20:42He's such a classic.
- 20:43I love that so much.
- 20:44He just doesn't care.
- 20:45Yeah, Sir Lewis.
- 20:46Speaking of Lewis, in a way, going to Ferrari next year, but let's head right into Ferrari.
- 20:52That was a horrible segue.
- 20:53Good segue.
- 20:54Speaking of Lewis, Ferrari, nice here, but this race.
- 20:59Such a massive reach, but yeah, Ferrari though, obviously, there ain't obviously a lot today.
- 21:08Charles getting a podium with the DQ of Russell, but he did run a pretty good race.
- 21:13Max was charging on him right there at the end, but he hung on, ended up getting the
- 21:18podium and then Carlos finishing P6.
- 21:22At least it's better, you know, slightly than recent races.
- 21:28But we were hoping for big upgrades from Ferrari after the break.
- 21:33You know, he started in P7, you know, with a top eight or top seven of who you're racing
- 21:42against.
- 21:43I mean, it's kind of what you got to, that's good enough, honestly, for Ferrari right now.
- 21:48You know, it's right where they belong right now.
- 21:50I mean, let's be honest.
- 21:52For Charles to grab a podium is very impressive.
- 21:56I would agree with that, but at the end of the day, like Lando and Max, at the end of
- 22:02the day, he take away George's penalty.
- 22:03He dropped three spots from his race start.
- 22:06For sure.
- 22:07You know, and Lewis caught him quick for sure.
- 22:09And Charles had no ability to come back after having a pull to start with a Max Verstappen
- 22:14penalty, but had a pull nonetheless.
- 22:18And another slow, he had a slow start too, kinda.
- 22:21It wasn't that impressive.
- 22:23He led what?
- 22:24No, he got it.
- 22:25Did he lead to lap three and that's when Lewis took it?
- 22:27No, Lewis took it right away.
- 22:29Did he?
- 22:30I think.
- 22:31Oh no, Lewis was fighting Sergio right away.
- 22:32Yeah, no, that was fun.
- 22:33They were wheels of wind.
- 22:34That was fun.
- 22:35I'm looking forward to talking about that.
- 22:37Yeah.
- 22:38They had tires bouncing.
- 22:39Yeah, you're right.
- 22:40Charles did lead for, yeah, it was probably three laps or so.
- 22:42I think so.
- 22:43And then he led a little bit later again, but it was just pitstops.
- 22:47Was it Charles that led?
- 22:48Or Carlos led for a little bit?
- 22:50I think just with pitstops, they both probably led a little bit.
- 22:53Oh, gotcha.
- 22:54And Carlos was like, cause he wanted to go real, he wanted to go long.
- 22:57Yeah.
- 22:58He wanted a one stop.
- 22:59Yeah, let's see.
- 23:00Leclerc's still leading through lap two.
- 23:01Yeah, it's like lap three that, yeah, there it is right there.
- 23:07That Lewis passed him.
- 23:08But anyway, Ramblin'.
- 23:09Yeah, I guess I can agree with you guys.
- 23:14Ferrari's right where they should be, I guess, for now, but hopefully they got something
- 23:17else coming and actually can put a fight to Mercedes or McLaren.
- 23:24But maybe realistically, their battle is just, hey, let's just finish in front of Checo right
- 23:28now and, you know, prove that we have a faster car or driver than Red Bull's number two.
- 23:35I don't know.
- 23:36I think Ferrari can be happy that they finished third.
- 23:40100%.
- 23:41They beat Lando.
- 23:42I agree.
- 23:43And Max.
- 23:44And Max.
- 23:45And the other Red Bull car and Checo.
- 23:48That should happen.
- 23:50But you got to throw it in there.
- 23:51It's still a fast car.
- 23:53We've had the conversation all year.
- 23:54If anybody else is in the Checo car, are they doing better at this point?
- 23:59Probably.
- 24:00That's conversation.
- 24:01We'll save it.
- 24:02We'll save it when we get to like driver's standings.
- 24:04Okay, okay, good.
- 24:05I thought you were going the other way with that.
- 24:07Yeah, yeah.
- 24:08I think Joe could give him a run for his money.
- 24:09Logan, buddy.
- 24:10Put me in there.
- 24:11Logan.
- 24:12I hear he's free.
- 24:16With that, let's head into Red Bull.
- 24:18Max, let's start with Max.
- 24:21Old Maxwell.
- 24:23Just again, he was so fast all weekend long.
- 24:27It was great.
- 24:28I was like watching qualifying.
- 24:29I was like, no, no, it's happening.
- 24:32It's happening.
- 24:33Nice to see you.
- 24:34I'm still getting a top five, top four.
- 24:37Yeah, I was worried after seeing the qualifying.
- 24:39He's got all the good cars he's got to climb through.
- 24:41I was like, Max is going to...
- 24:42A lot of his drivers that are going to give at least a little bit of defense.
- 24:44Yeah.
- 24:45Nah, there's really just one.
- 24:46Alonzo.
- 24:47No, Orlando.
- 24:48Yeah, Orlando.
- 24:49Yeah.
- 24:50That Aston ain't putting up any fight right now with the Red Bull, dude.
- 24:54The driver might.
- 24:55You never know.
- 24:56He might be able to fight as much as he wants.
- 24:59That Red Bull is still going by.
- 25:00Yeah, at some point.
- 25:01Max might as well just be patient.
- 25:03He'll get his opportunity.
- 25:05Yeah, Max obviously fast as heck, gets the P5 or rather P4 after the DQ.
- 25:12And Checo, is that true?
- 25:14Checo ended up getting fastest lap?
- 25:16Yeah, he pitted on the second to last lap.
- 25:19Okay, I ended up pulling it out.
- 25:20He got it the last lap, if I'm not mistaken.
- 25:22Yeah.
- 25:23There's 44 laps in this one?
- 25:24Okay.
- 25:25Yeah.
- 25:26Yep, he pit because he was...
- 25:27I mean, it shows him like 35 or so seconds behind whoever was ahead of him, but that's
- 25:32because he pit.
- 25:33He had enough time behind him to not lose any positions.
- 25:35So fastest lap for Checo.
- 25:37I mean, a somewhat decent finish in comparison to what he's been doing, but he did start
- 25:41P2 and all that.
- 25:43Anybody wanted to talk to him, talk to him about, geez, after the race was if he has
- 25:49a seat or not, to which he just replied, you know, I don't think I'm going to be responding
- 25:54anymore to any future speculation.
- 25:56Essentially just letting them do their thing.
- 25:57He's just going to continue to focus on racing.
- 26:00And he did pull out the fastest lap.
- 26:03So there's something to be said about that.
- 26:08He needs better results coming out of something.
- 26:12He ended up eighth, right?
- 26:14Seventh.
- 26:15After DQ.
- 26:16So before DQ, the top eight were so far ahead of everyone else.
- 26:21Those were the top teams, right?
- 26:23So like, no, it doesn't say anything that got fastest.
- 26:25But you're the worst of the best then.
- 26:27I would 100% say that's not even debatable at this point.
- 26:30I'll give him his flowers in that he wasn't racing against the worst teams.
- 26:37He was racing.
- 26:38Well, no, he was racing.
- 26:39He was in that top eight.
- 26:41That's good, I guess.
- 26:42But he still, he started way higher than what you're thinking.
- 26:45And the battle with Lewis was good.
- 26:46I mean, he was, we saw some good stuff from Checo there, the first couple laps.
- 26:51It was a hundred meter battle off the race start.
- 26:54And then it wasn't even, that was so fun.
- 26:56I loved watching Checo try to dive in to get behind Leclerc.
- 27:00And Lewis just didn't move.
- 27:02It was so good to see Checo go in and then have to bail out because he was about to.
- 27:06So, so good.
- 27:07I really want to know what the closest their tires actually came.
- 27:11They didn't touch, no, they didn't touch.
- 27:14They didn't touch, but they had a slow-mo of it.
- 27:16And I mean, it had to be like one or two centimeters.
- 27:19Fit a slice of paper in between.
- 27:21Yeah, dude, it was close.
- 27:22I honestly thought they touched.
- 27:23I could have sworn, but they didn't touch.
- 27:25It was real close.
- 27:26But the only thing I was thinking during that is like the reaction time of these drivers
- 27:30is just absolutely insane.
- 27:33It's not even like the fact that like you got somebody that quick and you're in, it's
- 27:37not even a thought.
- 27:38You're just doing that little quick adjustment and they're moving maybe one, two feet of
- 27:43actual space.
- 27:45It's just insane the reaction time and their ability to just stay under control and just
- 27:48swell.
- 27:49Cause Checo had his car lined up.
- 27:51He did the max for snapping where he actually had the, in the blocks, he was lined up slightly
- 27:56over so he didn't even have to turn going off the line and he instantly was going to
- 27:59cut Lewis off.
- 28:00For snapping does it all the time when he's in first.
- 28:02He'll position himself a little bit so he can cut that second driver.
- 28:05He wasn't expecting Lewis to be that far up though.
- 28:09Lewis's, they had like their reaction time, it was like 0.25 or 0.29 seconds.
- 28:13The matter of 0.04 seconds is that much space.
- 28:15Isn't that insane?
- 28:16That's so wild.
- 28:17That's so insane to think about.
- 28:18So, so good.
- 28:19Wild.
- 28:20And then if you're Landon, you're five minutes behind everybody else.
- 28:23Don't say that.
- 28:25Landon's in gravel.
- 28:28With that Red Bull, obviously a lot of speculation going into the break.
- 28:32We'll get into that a little bit later.
- 28:34Moving along.
- 28:36I don't know if we really have much else to say about the Aston's, Alpines, Haas, Williams
- 28:42or kick Sauber.
- 28:45But I mean, obviously rounding out the top 10, you had Alonso finishing P8.
- 28:49Again this is after the DQ of George.
- 28:52Alonso finishing P8, Ocon at P9.
- 28:54I mean that's a good finish for him.
- 28:57And Danny Rick at that P10.
- 28:59But Danny Rick wasn't in points without the Russell DQ.
- 29:04Is he?
- 29:05Where did Danny Rick start?
- 29:08He started.
- 29:09I got you.
- 29:10I don't know.
- 29:1113th.
- 29:12You know, not bad.
- 29:1313th.
- 29:14Moving on.
- 29:15I feel like I saw the Alpines, even though only one of them got into the...
- 29:19Did who else?
- 29:20Did someone else?
- 29:21DNF?
- 29:22No, there's no other DNFs.
- 29:23I thought.
- 29:24Joe?
- 29:25Oh, Joe did.
- 29:26I didn't hear him.
- 29:27It wasn't like damage to the car.
- 29:28It was something mechanical.
- 29:29I didn't even hear it.
- 29:30I just noticed that he was out.
- 29:31His car went off.
- 29:32He lost power and then they were able to kick it back on through the steering wheel, but
- 29:38then they just brought him in.
- 29:39Well actually, he actually ran like two or three laps.
- 29:42And then they brought him in.
- 29:43And then they tire the car.
- 29:44Yeah.
- 29:45So yeah, I guess three places for Danny.
- 29:48Pretty decent.
- 29:49Yeah, can't complain.
- 29:50Any...
- 29:51Before we move on from Belgium, any disappointments, obviously George, but that we haven't touched
- 29:57on any disappointments, any surprises as we kind of head into the break?
- 30:01Something you were looking to see that maybe didn't happen?
- 30:03This is a...
- 30:04We're talking about this later, but I wish I would have known Yugi was going to take
- 30:08a 60 place grid penalty before I put him in 10th place.
- 30:13So that's...
- 30:14You know.
- 30:15And what was that for again?
- 30:16Was that during...
- 30:18He just replaced a lot of...
- 30:20Oh, that's right.
- 30:21He replaced a lot of components.
- 30:22Yeah.
- 30:23That's all that it was for.
- 30:24And didn't somebody else have a 50 place or no?
- 30:25That was earlier this season.
- 30:26Somebody earlier this season, yeah.
- 30:27I didn't even bring my boy Gastly, but okay.
- 30:33But to be honest, I was surprised with Haas' performance.
- 30:37I figured they were going to do pretty well at this track.
- 30:39They have that top end speed.
- 30:42And they finished 16th and 17th.
- 30:44Yeah, pretty much non-existent.
- 30:46It's not what we've seen, but by Nico, especially this year.
- 30:48Nico's been having a heck of a year in that car, so I was really...
- 30:51I mean, that's why I...
- 30:52What do you think that is then?
- 30:53Do you think everybody's finally starting to catch up and do all their minor adjustments
- 30:56and now they're that much ahead of Haas all of a sudden when Nico at least had been consistent?
- 31:01Even K-Meg was consistently like...
- 31:04I'd say 10 through 13 for a minute.
- 31:06I mean, it was almost pretty consistent.
- 31:08I don't know.
- 31:09It's weird because it's like...
- 31:11They just not bringing the upgrades as much as these other teams or are we all just wrong
- 31:16in this car is better on low speed corners in those tracks?
- 31:19Because that's where they've been performing well.
- 31:21I think...
- 31:22I don't know.
- 31:23I think Haas brings...
- 31:24I think I've said this as well.
- 31:25I think Haas brings their upgrades at the start of the year and then they just start
- 31:28to kind of plateau through the rest.
- 31:30Oh yeah.
- 31:31Because they did kind of start quicker last year too.
- 31:32They might already be getting ready for next year to be honest.
- 31:34For 2026.
- 31:35Yeah.
- 31:36If you think so, just mailing it in.
- 31:37I mean, if they don't have the money...
- 31:39They got to start allocating where they can.
- 31:42Or hopefully that we see them have some better races, but I think it follows trend I think
- 31:47for the last two years that once we hit the break, they start to kind of lose a bit of
- 31:52speed.
- 31:53Which sucks because they really...
- 31:54And we'll touch on it in a minute, but they had a chance to finish either tied for as
- 31:57high as they've ever finished or the highest they've ever finished before in the driver
- 32:01standings.
- 32:02Yeah, if they continue on that trend, then it's pretty much over for Haas.
- 32:11I guess one other thing to touch on before we move on from Belgium is Aston Alonso also,
- 32:16you're saying, ran a one stop shop, one stop race?
- 32:20So all the rave was Russell running that one stop.
- 32:23Which I mean, the strategy when Mercedes said it was like they were going to be slated P5
- 32:28if he stopped or take the chance at the one stop and finish P5 with the tire dag just
- 32:33bringing you back.
- 32:34So it was worth it at that point.
- 32:36Alonso had a one stop, started P8, finished P8 after the max DQ, but you didn't hear about
- 32:43that.
- 32:44Yeah.
- 32:45Alonso drove a heck of a race to say that Aston's not quick.
- 32:47No.
- 32:48Closing question then off that.
- 32:53Does who your driver is matter or help determine if you want to try a one stop or not?
- 32:59You got to trust that driver that, hey, those tires are going to be rough at the end.
- 33:03We got to make sure that driver can handle that.
- 33:05Does that come into a factor you think at all for any of these teams?
- 33:09Like a guy like Alonso, like, yeah, we can trust him to go drive the fricking car.
- 33:14You know what I mean?
- 33:15I think definitely yes.
- 33:16Logan, no way.
- 33:17You know what I mean?
- 33:18Yeah, I think yes and no.
- 33:19So I was watching the post race show and there's like a person who used to be on L.P. strategy.
- 33:23Her name is Ruth something.
- 33:25And she was saying like the bench line to do it is they actually measure tire dag.
- 33:29There's a rating.
- 33:30There's like a, it's measurable during the race.
- 33:31And if you're at point oh five five, then that shows that you have the pace and you
- 33:36can do it to go the full race.
- 33:38And if you're at like it's and then I think it's just have point oh five increments from
- 33:41there.
- 33:42So everybody was out like point one and George can show he was at that point oh five five
- 33:46so he could do it.
- 33:47So it's like super technical.
- 33:49That's insane.
- 33:50It's cool.
- 33:51So she's on the commentary throughout the race as well.
- 33:53But what she's brought to that like broadcast, I don't know, I watch a lot of the post race
- 33:57shows too, because they do driver.
- 33:58Is it Bernie Collins?
- 33:59No, her name is Ruth.
- 34:00Ruth.
- 34:01I can't.
- 34:02It's like maybe McGrath.
- 34:03Okay.
- 34:04But it's she's like she was a strategist for the Alpine team.
- 34:09Okay.
- 34:10So she she had she worked with she worked with Fernand.
- 34:12I don't need to sit here and gas her up.
- 34:14But it's just cool to bring like she has like the strategy behind like everything.
- 34:17And it was cool because in that Carlos actually came up and was on the booth with them.
- 34:22Yeah.
- 34:23And she has a card that has like the specs or whatever.
- 34:26There's a term for it.
- 34:27I don't remember what it is.
- 34:28It's something sheet.
- 34:29And he Carlos immediately came up and grabbed it.
- 34:31Pretty sure looking at that tire dag, because he wanted to go.
- 34:34He wanted a one stop.
- 34:35He may actually set it during it.
- 34:37And he's like, he was kind of like low key upset because he's like, well, I mean, obviously,
- 34:41we could have done it.
- 34:43And but he grabbed that sheet and you can see it all in the show.
- 34:47And then the comment will Bux and actually made a comment on it.
- 34:49Huh?
- 34:50Okay.
- 34:51What was the comment?
- 34:52We're just saying like, like Carlos grabbed he literally like, and then he made a comment
- 34:57saying that he was going to Oxfordshire, which means he would either go to Alp.
- 35:02It was it was Williams or one of the other teams.
- 35:06I don't know if it was Oxfordshire because that's actually where Aston is.
- 35:09But it's wherever Williams is headquartered.
- 35:10There's another team like in that area.
- 35:12But Bux and was like predicting he was going to Williams because they were making the JV
- 35:16the James of all connection.
- 35:17He's a strategist.
- 35:18That's not the principle involves ended up saying what was it a number of weeks ago that
- 35:23they were taking Carlos pretty serious and that they weren't didn't want to just be a
- 35:27stepping stone.
- 35:28But they they did want Carlos bad.
- 35:29Yeah.
- 35:30So it is it will be an interesting marriage, as we'll call it, between Carlos and Williams.
- 35:35And see if that see if that plays out with that.
- 35:38Let's roll right into our constructors and drivers standings update.
- 35:49And obviously rolling into there I am with obviously again, but heading right into the
- 35:53constructors standings update, I'll throw it over to Tyler actually to kind of give
- 36:00us the rundown.
- 36:01All right.
- 36:02So we're going to start with the constructors.
- 36:03So as everybody would predict, Red Bull is currently leading in that.
- 36:07However, they're not as far up as people might think.
- 36:11McLaren has definitely broken down that gap.
- 36:13They even chipped away at it this weekend with Oscar taking that P2 really, really helped
- 36:17in the long run.
- 36:18Only 42 points behind Red Bull at this point.
- 36:21That might seem like a big number, but we got half the season left.
- 36:24So that 42 points you got Oscar and Lando grabbing podiums, even if Max is winning,
- 36:29they're still grabbing eight, nine points every weekend if Checo is not, you know, doing
- 36:34what he should be per se.
- 36:35So that could be dwindled down in five, six races.
- 36:37We could have like a five, six, seven point differential there.
- 36:40So that's going to get real juicy.
- 36:42And then McLaren is kind of taking a step up on Ferrari as well.
- 36:45Ferrari is currently in third.
- 36:46They're 21 points behind McLaren yet.
- 36:47So that's really not much of a fight anymore.
- 36:49I don't see Ferrari closing that gap at all.
- 36:51They're going to be lucky to hold on to Mercedes behind them.
- 36:54They've closed the gap exponentially, right?
- 36:57They're only 79 points behind them at this point, which again seems like a lot.
- 37:02Missing out of that 18 too.
- 37:04Yeah, that would be huge.
- 37:05I mean, you're talking there, there's 60, well there's 60 points behind them, right?
- 37:0861 points.
- 37:09That's huge at the end of the season.
- 37:11And they are consistently in front of Ferrari right now and battling McLaren like they could
- 37:15put their name in the ring.
- 37:17I don't know if they can catch Red Bull, but they could at least lock up third.
- 37:22They're not going to catch Red Bull.
- 37:23I think Max is just going to continue to grab too many spots up there and he's still going
- 37:28to grab some wins, which Mercedes very well might as well.
- 37:31But right, if you got McLaren and Mercedes and Max fighting, that's the top five spots
- 37:34taken up right there.
- 37:35So then you got Checo versus Ferrari, right?
- 37:38How much of a gap is there between those is really going to tell the difference between
- 37:41Ferrari and Mercedes here.
- 37:43That's a good point.
- 37:44Checo versus Ferrari.
- 37:45I mean, that's kind of the battle to look at coming out of break.
- 37:48That's also what it's coming down to.
- 37:50It's McLaren versus Red Bull.
- 37:51Sorry, McLaren versus Max.
- 37:54So Max is the only one that's going to grab the constructors for Red Bull this year.
- 37:59From there, it's just a battle really for, I mean, sixth, right?
- 38:06Aston's at 73 points.
- 38:08So there are 193 points behind Mercedes.
- 38:11That's obviously not going to get closed.
- 38:13So the top four is pretty locked up and then you have the Racing Bulls at 39.
- 38:16They're 34 points behind Aston.
- 38:18I don't think Racing Bulls versus Alonso.
- 38:21I don't think there's going to be enough ahead there.
- 38:23Stroll's been too consistent in getting points lately that in comparison to like Yuki and
- 38:28Danny Rick, they keep swapping, but Stroll and Alonso are getting points.
- 38:31Like they just keep chipping away.
- 38:33I don't, yeah, I agree.
- 38:35Racing Bulls won't catch them.
- 38:36Yeah, I really don't think so.
- 38:38But this is where it gets really interesting.
- 38:39You got Racing Bulls and Haas, right?
- 38:41So Haas is at 27 points.
- 38:42They're seven points behind Racing Bulls.
- 38:45If what you said is true, Joe, Haas should be lucky to hold that seventh spot, which
- 38:49would be the highest they've ever finished in the constructors.
- 38:52Seventh would be the highest they've ever done.
- 38:53It'd be tied if I'm not mistaken, right?
- 38:54So if they were to grab that sixth spot from Racing Bulls, that would be the highest they've
- 38:58ever finished.
- 39:00So I really don't see that.
- 39:01I think Racing Bulls is going to just have too much consistency with the smaller upgrades
- 39:05they're going to bring throughout the year to kind of match that Red Bull team as they
- 39:07said they were going to this year, which has proven true, right?
- 39:10The Racing Bulls have been quick in the midfield this year.
- 39:13You would hope to see some more upgrades come from Haas.
- 39:16They have to.
- 39:17Just a battle, man.
- 39:18They have to.
- 39:21Then from there, it's really wide open between the last three teams, really the two of the
- 39:26last three.
- 39:27You got Alpine at 11 points.
- 39:28They're 16 points behind Haas.
- 39:30Alpine's been very consistent the last couple of weeks, but Nico's just been too good to
- 39:34I think close that gap.
- 39:36And then Williams at four points.
- 39:37They had another showing for Williams.
- 39:40I don't think with Logan in that car, they're ever going to finish better than P8, even
- 39:44if they were to catch the Alpines at this point.
- 39:47Alpines seem to have kind of kicked in a little bit of gear the last couple of races.
- 39:50Ever since they got underway, then they seem to be doing pretty darn good.
- 39:57And then Sauber, they're not scoring any points this year.
- 39:59They're still at zero.
- 40:00No, they will.
- 40:01I think Botos could get a point or something.
- 40:04They won't finish the year with no points.
- 40:05It just won't happen.
- 40:06It's going to be a race where something happens.
- 40:08But yeah, that's the constructor.
- 40:11So really it comes down to the top four teams are locked up.
- 40:15But how those top four finish, I think one and two are solidified, Red Bull and McLaren.
- 40:19But that battle between Ferrari and Mercedes, nobody would have thought this at the start
- 40:24of the year with how the year was looking.
- 40:25Like people were thinking Ferrari was going to get Red Bull run for the money.
- 40:30And Ferrari to be able to hold on to third right now.
- 40:32Ferrari can't even touch McLaren most likely.
- 40:33Like it's just wild to think how things have shifted this year.
- 40:35I've never seen a shift like this.
- 40:37Yeah, it's usually you have your top three or so.
- 40:40And then there's the kind of the mid pack, you know, the best of the rest type deal.
- 40:43And then you got your bottom tier.
- 40:45But this is just completely flipped.
- 40:47We've definitely seen like we've definitely seen teams, you know, like the Aston Martin's
- 40:52or the Mercedes were like, you'll be good at one half of the year and then you'll come
- 40:56back to the other half.
- 40:57There's a lot of that happening just across like everyone.
- 41:00So I think like early prediction, I think Merck's going to beat Ferrari probably.
- 41:05I think they're going to catch up just the pace that they've been showing and the consistency
- 41:09for the last three races.
- 41:11I would imagine that consistency shouldn't go away.
- 41:16But yeah, the thing about it, it's like as Mercedes has gone up, Ferrari's gone down.
- 41:20It's not even that Ferrari's staying stagnant.
- 41:23Yep.
- 41:24No, right.
- 41:25They're definitely consistently finishing behind the Mercedes.
- 41:28I think top four, like you said, absolutely locked.
- 41:31Like no one's reaching that top.
- 41:33No, I agree.
- 41:34Yeah, I agree.
- 41:35Yeah.
- 41:36And then Aston's kind of on their island and then the race between Racing Bulls and Haas.
- 41:40Yeah, that's going to be fun.
- 41:42I think it'll be interesting.
- 41:43Because it's like Yuki's been, I want to say consistent, but he hasn't been.
- 41:47He was.
- 41:48And then it's kind of seems like Danny Rick's kind of coming over a little bit.
- 41:52And then Hulk was doing great.
- 41:54And now Hulk's 16th.
- 41:58So it's going to be it's going to be fun.
- 42:00That midfield battle.
- 42:01Haas is going to have to really dig deep if they want to catch Racing Bulls straight up.
- 42:05Midfield battle is always just so fun to watch, though.
- 42:07You got these loaded teams.
- 42:09It just creates excitement across the levels.
- 42:11That's what I love so much about F1.
- 42:13There's just so much to root for.
- 42:15I 100% agree with you.
- 42:16Unfortunately, because the top teams are also fighting a lot, it's so hard to focus on anything
- 42:21else during the race.
- 42:22So I have to like make notes or like I have to keep notes obviously during the race, but
- 42:26also go back and check to see how the other teams are doing because I'm so focused on
- 42:32Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari and Mercedes, obviously.
- 42:35So yeah, for sure, for sure.
- 42:38We still a lot of good fighting to happen.
- 42:40It'd be really bad if I think I would still be upset, even though obviously I want McLaren
- 42:44to do well.
- 42:45I'd be upset if they just took it the rest of the season and just like win after win
- 42:49after win after win.
- 42:50You would be upset about that?
- 42:51Maybe a little.
- 42:52I'm going to be at the end of the day.
- 42:55I'm just saying like win after win after win.
- 42:59Like they just showed like a sudden, well, maybe I wouldn't be upset, actually.
- 43:03I don't know.
- 43:05I don't want to see one person dominating again.
- 43:10I get that.
- 43:11I get that.
- 43:12I don't think we're going to get that with how these cars are right now.
- 43:15I don't think so either.
- 43:16I think they're just too equal across the board.
- 43:17Well, they're not equal, but they're too like close.
- 43:20The gap between the cars themselves is close so much.
- 43:24At least between the top three.
- 43:26Yeah, and even if you have like, whatever, even if the top three cars are like the exact
- 43:31same in terms of performance, you still have track preferences to them and stuff like that.
- 43:35Oh, for sure.
- 43:36For sure.
- 43:37For sure.
- 43:38With the cars and the drivers.
- 43:39And the drivers, yeah.
- 43:40Yeah, no, for sure.
- 43:41Why don't you take it away with the drivers too?
- 43:43All right, from there we're going to hop into the drivers.
- 43:45That gets a lot more, well, I wouldn't say it actually gets a little bit more dicey because
- 43:48there's good battles in the constructors right now, but we have everybody's favorite driver,
- 43:53Max Verstappen, leading the race right now.
- 43:57As expected, he's shown not the last three years, but he's at 277 points.
- 44:04Lando is in second at 199, so he is still 78 points behind Verstappen.
- 44:08So if they would have stopped swap places this race, it would have been 75.
- 44:11Not a huge difference, but three points at the end of the year could really matter right
- 44:15now.
- 44:16And it's going to be fun to watch those two battle the rest of the year.
- 44:21It really is.
- 44:22I would like to think that Lando can catch him, but I just don't know if that's possible
- 44:27without McLaren having the Red Bull strategy of if Piazzari's up there, swapping them and
- 44:32getting those seven points.
- 44:34If it's a one-two again, I don't know if McLaren would do that to Oscar.
- 44:38And I think that might cost Lando the WDC this year.
- 44:44But at the end of the day, if that's what's going to cost you, you can't beat the driver
- 44:49that's equivalent in your car, if it comes down to that.
- 44:52Now, I mean, that could be one or two races and then that's seven 14 points, which is
- 44:57huge.
- 44:58I mean, that takes a 78 point gap down to 64.
- 45:02Yeah.
- 45:03I think after what we saw last race, I would hope not because Oscar's got his win now, he
- 45:08can get back in his place.
- 45:09Not saying that at all, but because of just how awkward that situation was, I'm hoping
- 45:14if we get to the situation where Lando is so close, Oscar would just understand.
- 45:19And as long as the team is guaranteeing him third then over Leclerc, let it happen, right?
- 45:26Even so, even if you're not even guaranteed third, I think Oscar, there's-
- 45:29It just seems to keep you the person to do it.
- 45:31I think he would.
- 45:32I think really any teammate would in that situation, to be honest.
- 45:36I think, I don't know, I mean, is Max ever going to be in that spot as the second driver?
- 45:39I don't think he ever will be.
- 45:40He ever was.
- 45:41Hungry two years ago, Max refused to help Gekko take-
- 45:48He refused to give him the win to help him get second place that season.
- 45:52Which was bogus.
- 45:53Bogus.
- 45:54Super bogus.
- 45:55Because of what Gekko's done for that guy?
- 45:56Yeah, super, super bogus.
- 45:58I don't see that ever happening between Oscar and Lando unless something crazy happens, more
- 46:02so than last race.
- 46:04I would just hope, I don't want to see him in that position, but they're both really
- 46:09good drivers, they have a really fast car, they're going to be in that position again.
- 46:13My issue is, I don't think Lando will catch Max.
- 46:17I seriously don't.
- 46:19And I think that's only because, like, let's say, if Max wins four races, Lando's going
- 46:25to win two, and then you're going to have, like, Lewis or George winning one apiece,
- 46:30or Oscar in there winning one apiece.
- 46:32You know what I mean?
- 46:33Like, you got Max over here by himself winning the four, but then you got another four races,
- 46:37but those are going to be chopped up between a couple drivers.
- 46:39I think Lando is the best of the rest as far as those other drivers go, as far as getting
- 46:44maybe an extra win or two above the other guys.
- 46:46But I don't think it'll be enough to actually catch Max.
- 46:49You know what I mean?
- 46:50Yeah, that's where I would agree with you too, man.
- 46:51It's like, because you're right, it's like, so for Lando to win this WDC, he not only
- 46:56has to finish above Max in the bulk of the races, he has to win more races than Max.
- 47:01And everybody else.
- 47:03It's going to come down to, not even necessarily everybody else, right?
- 47:06If Lando were to grab three, Max grabs one, that's a different story if there's so much
- 47:10spread across the rest of them.
- 47:11But it's like, I think that's what it's going to come down to is Lando has to win more races
- 47:17than Max.
- 47:18Max is going to be top five.
- 47:19I think he needs more.
- 47:21I looked it up really quick.
- 47:22This was before Spa, so they're at 78 points.
- 47:25When they were at 76, if Lando would have gotten first and Max gotten second for every
- 47:30race for the rest of the season, Lando would win by one point.
- 47:36So just to put it into perspective, Lando just needs to keep...
- 47:40So he would lose actually in this situation because the gap grew.
- 47:43Yes, he grew.
- 47:44So now he would have to...
- 47:46Max would have to drop down some places.
- 47:48Max would have to finish third one or two races.
- 47:50Which at this point could legitimately happen.
- 47:53But that's saying Lando's going to win every single race.
- 47:55Lando still needs Max points, right?
- 47:57He still needs 25 points.
- 47:59Even if he did, there's going to be a couple that somebody else is going to win, whether
- 48:01it's George Lewis, Oscar, whoever.
- 48:05There's no way it's Max Verstappen and Lando Norris winning every race the rest of the
- 48:08year.
- 48:09That's a disparity.
- 48:10I mean, they haven't won the last four.
- 48:11Three.
- 48:12God, if it comes down to the last couple races though, boy, that would be a treat.
- 48:19I would love to see a Verstappen Hamilton battle between Norris and Verstappen at the
- 48:23end of this year.
- 48:24I would love to see that.
- 48:25Just not a repeat of Abu Dhabi 2021.
- 48:26But no, we can't let the stewards decide the race.
- 48:29Let's let them battle it out on track.
- 48:30I can't even think about that.
- 48:31But I would just love to see that.
- 48:32That's true.
- 48:33That would be true.
- 48:34But like what if what happened to what was given to Max was given to Lando?
- 48:39Oh man, that would crush me.
- 48:42Just thinking that Lando would have gotten the win on the steward call.
- 48:45Oh God.
- 48:46Yeah, that's like I might have to hang up the hats.
- 48:48I'm being real.
- 48:49But let's move forward here.
- 48:53We got the third place.
- 48:55Who's in third right now?
- 48:56That would be Charles Leclerc.
- 48:57He is at 177 points, 22 points behind Lando.
- 49:01No way he catches him the rest of this year unless Ferrari brings the biggest upgrade
- 49:04you've ever seen in your life.
- 49:06I think the real battle there is going to be between Oscar and Leclerc.
- 49:10So Oscar is 10 points behind Leclerc right now.
- 49:12I think Oscar is going to pass him pretty substantially.
- 49:15He's going to lock in that third spot.
- 49:17He's not going to catch Lando at this point.
- 49:19I mean, he's 32 points behind Lando.
- 49:21I just don't see that happening.
- 49:22And then you have Carlos coming in at fifth, five points behind Oscar.
- 49:27That's going to stay right there.
- 49:28If anything, I think Oscar Carlos is going to drop behind Lewis, who is 12 points behind
- 49:32him right now.
- 49:33I think he absolutely will drop below Lewis.
- 49:35I think Lewis is way too consistent.
- 49:37I think Lewis can catch Oscar.
- 49:39But I mean, hey, if Lewis starts winning, who knows?
- 49:43Who knows how far Leclerc will drop actually, legitimately.
- 49:46That's the thing.
- 49:47Leclerc needs to keep qualifying really, really, really darn good, which he's good at.
- 49:51Which he's good at.
- 49:52He's good at, but he needs to qualify one, two, or three to be able to fight for fifth
- 49:56at this point.
- 49:57I think that's kind of where it stops, right?
- 49:59He got one and two and then kind of three through six is kind of, I don't know if Lewis
- 50:04would get his highest there at Oscar.
- 50:06No, I don't think so.
- 50:07I don't think so.
- 50:08I think Lewis could get as high as four.
- 50:10I think, I think, I think.
- 50:12Depending on what happens with Ferrari.
- 50:14Yeah.
- 50:15And I think what hurt, what changes this exponentially is taking 25 points away from George.
- 50:23If George gets those 25 points, that would put him at 151.
- 50:30He would actually, because then take seven points away from Lewis, George would actually
- 50:33be in six right now.
- 50:34Lewis would be in seventh and Checo would be in eighth.
- 50:36Are you sure?
- 50:37I don't know if that math is math.
- 50:3925 plus 116?
- 50:4025 and 16 is 41.
- 50:41Oh no, sorry, I gave him 10.
- 50:42I gave him 10.
- 50:43Okay, okay, okay.
- 50:44So George would be in front of Checo.
- 50:45But he'd be right behind Lewis though.
- 50:46He'd be right behind Lewis.
- 50:47He'd be right behind Lewis.
- 50:48He'd be right behind Lewis.
- 50:49He'd be right behind Lewis.
- 50:50He'd be right behind Lewis.
- 50:51He'd be right behind Lewis.
- 50:52He'd be right behind Lewis.
- 50:53He'd be ahead of Checo and he would be two points in front of, behind Lewis.
- 50:58Yeah.
- 50:59God, that math does check out.
- 51:00I did it twice in my head.
- 51:02That's a big, God, that hurts, man.
- 51:05That hurts.
- 51:06And then you got Checo at seventh, George at eighth.
- 51:08Checo is 19 points behind Lewis at this point.
- 51:11George is 15 points behind Checo.
- 51:13I think George is closing that gap.
- 51:16Checo finishes P8 this year in the constructors.
- 51:17Checo was staring at P8 heading into the summer break before DQ.
- 51:21He was staring at it.
- 51:22He was, yep.
- 51:23And then it drops off substantially from there, right?
- 51:25You got the two Astins.
- 51:26You got Fernando and Stroll.
- 51:28At that point it really doesn't matter.
- 51:32The only thing that's worth noting is that Racing Bulls battle.
- 51:36You got Yuki who's 10 points ahead of D-Rick right now.
- 51:39Really?
- 51:40Yep.
- 51:41He's 10.
- 51:42It's 22 versus 12.
- 51:43So that's a pretty big gap for a team that, you know, or driver that might grab third
- 51:46three points in a week at best.
- 51:48They kind of switch spots.
- 51:49Danny Rick was doing better for a second.
- 51:51Yep.
- 51:52I thought that would be a little bit closer than it is.
- 51:55Yuki was able to grab like those like a couple P8s this year, you know, that got him that
- 52:00like five points or was it six points?
- 52:04Whatever that is, you know, versus one point where Danny's grabbing tenths.
- 52:10So yeah, that's what we have for the drivers.
- 52:11Nothing else worth noting.
- 52:13The only thing I would say is, you know, Nico is still P11, or in 11th right now, only two
- 52:17points behind Stroll.
- 52:19So Nico's having a heck of a year.
- 52:21Come on.
- 52:22Come on, Nico.
- 52:23Come on.
- 52:24Do it.
- 52:25Please.
- 52:26Please.
- 52:27You did let me down on my two bonus points this week though, Nico.
- 52:28I won't forget that.
- 52:29What are you going to do?
- 52:30Give us something to talk about.
- 52:32All right.
- 52:33With that, let's head right into our news.
- 52:41And starting off the news right off the bat, fresh off the press this morning, Carlos signs
- 52:49to Williams.
- 52:50It's finally over.
- 52:51It's over.
- 52:52It's over.
- 52:53We figured it out.
- 52:54I'm disappointed.
- 52:55Well, we didn't figure anything out.
- 52:58No, yeah.
- 52:59But yeah.
- 53:00I mean, yeah.
- 53:01But Logan is out.
- 53:02We already knew that.
- 53:03But Carlos coming to America, which again, I think he'll succeed there.
- 53:07We'll do a, we'll do a Logan update next year.
- 53:10That sounds nice.
- 53:11For all our Logan fans out there.
- 53:14We'll talk about Grosjean.
- 53:15Anyway, let's move on.
- 53:16All right.
- 53:17But Carlos Williams.
- 53:18Yep.
- 53:19Awesome.
- 53:20So I think he, I think this also, we'll talk about it obviously in a couple of minutes
- 53:26here.
- 53:27I think this solidifies Antonelli, but I think it also gives Mercedes kind of some insurance
- 53:32with the Antonelli decision if they want to, where they could just swap them.
- 53:38Yeah.
- 53:39If he does really poorly.
- 53:41I don't know.
- 53:42I feel if, I feel like that could a hundred percent be the case for Red Bull.
- 53:45I just don't know if that's a thing Mercedes would do.
- 53:48You don't think so?
- 53:49I think they would quickly go.
- 53:50And again, Williams saying they're not a stepping stone, right?
- 53:53I think they would quickly, like more quickly replace Antonelli with Mick before, before
- 54:00pulling signs from Williams.
- 54:01Okay.
- 54:02As I kind of said right off the bat, little disappointed signs shows Williams.
- 54:06I think, I just don't know what, I don't know what the exact, huh?
- 54:10It's an interesting move.
- 54:11I don't know what the exact thought process is.
- 54:13Over Alpine, over steak.
- 54:15His, I think current state steak, not a great option.
- 54:22Future Audi though.
- 54:23I mean, that's kind of what I was hoping for.
- 54:25Sure.
- 54:26Yeah.
- 54:27Seeing what Williams, he mentioned in his, his, you know, his blurb, his breaking news
- 54:30blurb that he was excited to help bring the team back to its, it's like, like, you know,
- 54:34its legendary status.
- 54:35It's not going to happen.
- 54:36He's drinking the Kuhu right already and he's not even in the building.
- 54:39I mean, I think James Vowles, yeah, I mean, you have to, right?
- 54:43You're coping.
- 54:44I think James Vowles is going to help the team do better, but it's not going to become
- 54:48a winning team because you have signs.
- 54:51And Albon.
- 54:52Yeah.
- 54:53And Albon.
- 54:54I think they're both great drivers.
- 54:55I think they're going to be fighting for point.
- 54:57I just, I just don't know how much after that.
- 54:59And I don't know what comes after Williams for him.
- 55:02He's there when regs change.
- 55:04Do you think Williams could, with the two drivers they have, could they put the fight
- 55:07to Aston like next season for like that P8 to P10 area, like consistently?
- 55:12I think they'll have good races and bad races, but I don't think at the end of the season
- 55:16it'll matter.
- 55:17Fair enough.
- 55:18Yep.
- 55:19Fair enough.
- 55:20Carlos Williams, probably the biggest news that could have came out today.
- 55:23Cause we know how Carlos drives.
- 55:24I'm looking to see how Albon does compared to him.
- 55:26That's kind of how I'll finish that off.
- 55:29I don't agree at all.
- 55:31No?
- 55:32Yeah.
- 55:33I think the only spot that's better for him right now, currently in the current state
- 55:35of everything is Mercedes and that's not a possibility.
- 55:38That's not going to happen.
- 55:40Right.
- 55:41I think the Williams being the junior team for Mercedes, I don't think I can buy into
- 55:45that anymore.
- 55:46They definitely don't sell themselves.
- 55:47Right.
- 55:48But it's bought to some Mercedes, Russell to Mercedes, right?
- 55:50As much as they don't sell it, it's what's happened.
- 55:52But I think that ultimately comes down to like how much influence or say did Mercedes
- 55:57have in putting them in that Williams seat for them to be their future driver?
- 56:01I don't know.
- 56:02I don't know the answer to that question.
- 56:04So I think that-
- 56:05First thing I thought about.
- 56:07Mercedes got the best situation they could ever ask for.
- 56:11They got the best driver on the grid that's available.
- 56:15And I don't know.
- 56:16I mean, I think with- we would all agree that Carlos Sainz is a lot better driver than Alex
- 56:23Albon.
- 56:24I would agree with that.
- 56:25I would say right now, yes.
- 56:27Again, I'm looking forward to seeing them drive like in the same car.
- 56:30Yeah.
- 56:31So I think that with your knowing you're not going to get any performance whatsoever out
- 56:35of Logan, you're adding a driver that's going to compete.
- 56:38It's going to give you more points that you would only logistically think than Albon,
- 56:43right?
- 56:44I think you're taking a huge- you're making Williams- I think Williams is going to fight
- 56:49with Aston next year, unless if Aston brings some huge development, whatever.
- 56:54But I mean, even from a science perspective, I think that Williams has the most money to
- 56:59pay him in for the two years out of anybody that's available.
- 57:03I don't know if Alpine is going to fork that over.
- 57:05I don't think Alpine is very attractive right now because Alpine doesn't know who their
- 57:08engine manufacturer is going to be.
- 57:10There's talks of Alpine actually sourcing an engine and talking to the other engine
- 57:13manufacturers.
- 57:14So if you're a driver going into new regulations-
- 57:16Please do that.
- 57:17That's fucked.
- 57:18But if you're a driver going into a market with new regulations, you don't want to take
- 57:21that chance.
- 57:22You're a proven driver.
- 57:23At the end of the day, after his two-year contract, he's trying to get back into a big
- 57:25team.
- 57:26I think that was a factor.
- 57:27I think it was a huge factor.
- 57:29Knowing that they have no idea who their engine is going to be.
- 57:31And then you look at who's left.
- 57:32You got Saber.
- 57:33He's not going to VCarb.
- 57:34That was never a possibility.
- 57:35It's just not a thing.
- 57:37So you got Saber.
- 57:38No.
- 57:39Saber is zero.
- 57:40They're not even close to competing for anything right now.
- 57:42Yeah, the Audi takeover, that's not for two years.
- 57:45And then they got one more year of this.
- 57:47And even then, just because Audi takes over, that does not propel them to P10.
- 57:52You're hoping Audi can do something crazy with these new regulations.
- 57:55We have no idea.
- 57:56And that's the thing.
- 57:57It's such an unknown.
- 57:58They might have been able to pay him more, but I don't think Audi... You can't think
- 58:02that Audi is going to come in and take over F1 and put that car in a championship spot
- 58:06from the get go.
- 58:07It just doesn't happen.
- 58:08Right.
- 58:09It just doesn't happen.
- 58:10So in the end game, Carlos... It was a good two year deal.
- 58:13The driver market opens up a lot in the next couple of years.
- 58:17Lewis is going to retire.
- 58:18It does.
- 58:19Yeah, it does.
- 58:20We're going to have another crazy year in like two years.
- 58:21We'll see what happens with Mercedes.
- 58:23If Kimi is the future, great.
- 58:25You got Kimi and Russell for as long as you want them.
- 58:27Unless MaxiMax wants to leave Red Bull because that car is not performing anymore.
- 58:32MaxiMax wants to come somewhere.
- 58:33So a Red Bull seat opens up.
- 58:34Checo ain't going to be there forever.
- 58:36Carlos is in a really good freaking spot right now.
- 58:39Of all the midfield cars available, I'd probably pick Williams.
- 58:43I'd pick Williams.
- 58:44You're not going to VCarb, right?
- 58:45I'd probably go to VCarb just because of the progress they've made in showing the Red Bull's
- 58:49little sister now, or little brother, whatever you want to do.
- 58:52It's... You know, so...
- 58:53Even when they were Alfa Tori, they weren't horrible.
- 58:55No, no.
- 58:56But they made the commitment that they're actually going to invest more into it.
- 58:58And that's shown this year in the performance.
- 59:01So there's no way I'm going to Sauber.
- 59:03I'm not taking the risk of Audi.
- 59:05No.
- 59:06Unless you just simply want the money because they'll give you that.
- 59:07Right.
- 59:08And I don't think that's the thing for Carlos at this point.
- 59:09He's been driving for Ferrari for how many years?
- 59:12He's making enough money.
- 59:13Yeah, yeah.
- 59:14For sure.
- 59:15So where are you going to go?
- 59:16I'm not going to... If Alpine had an engine that was super consistent and they're going
- 59:20to commit to it to the future, I think Alpine would probably be the most enticing spot because
- 59:24they've always shown they're at that towards the mid level.
- 59:27That was my only argument would be Alpine.
- 59:30Alpine without an engine future, you don't know what you're going to do.
- 59:33That engine's not working.
- 59:34It hasn't worked in years.
- 59:36That engine hasn't been productive since it was running the Red Bull that Sebastian won
- 59:41for championships with.
- 59:42Which is a 2013?
- 59:43That was in the past.
- 59:44So I have a single counterpoint.
- 59:51Checo seat before he signed the deal.
- 59:55Why wouldn't he have taken that?
- 59:58In my head, it was Carlos the Red Bull and that was the only way it was.
- 1:00:05That's mind boggling me because there's no way Williams is paying him more than that
- 1:00:08Red Bull is offering.
- 1:00:09Yeah, no way.
- 1:00:10That's so crazy with me.
- 1:00:11Do you think it was just a time thing?
- 1:00:12Like he said no, I'm waiting for better options and then... Okay, hearing... Sorry, go
- 1:00:17ahead, go ahead.
- 1:00:18I just say, hearing you kind of going through it, I agree with you.
- 1:00:21I think all of the options available, Williams is definitely the safest.
- 1:00:26And especially if they're able to give him the money that he wants, sure.
- 1:00:30Yeah, Sauber is not good right now.
- 1:00:32Alpine is unpredictable.
- 1:00:35And then the other seats are just kind of unviable.
- 1:00:36It's got to be money.
- 1:00:37But yeah, that Red Bull seat that was open and Red Bull stating that they did, they couldn't
- 1:00:42match what he wanted.
- 1:00:44It's just like, is the bag that good at Williams?
- 1:00:47I don't think they could and I think they didn't want to.
- 1:00:50I don't know.
- 1:00:51I mean, because they're paying for snapping a lot of money.
- 1:00:54They did.
- 1:00:55That's what's mind boggling to me.
- 1:00:58Or do you think this comes down to does Carlos not want to be a number two driver anymore?
- 1:01:03And he made that and they don't want that battle going on.
- 1:01:07He ain't going to be the number one at Red Bull.
- 1:01:08That's a good point.
- 1:01:09He's not going to be the number one at Red Bull.
- 1:01:11Mercedes?
- 1:01:12Yeah.
- 1:01:13He's not the way... He doesn't have a chance at Ferrari.
- 1:01:14That's a taken from him.
- 1:01:15Is he automatically the number one at Williams?
- 1:01:18Do they treat him like that?
- 1:01:19Oh, they have to.
- 1:01:21Ooh, I actually don't know.
- 1:01:23Alvin has... It's not seniority.
- 1:01:27He has... I mean, he has history there now.
- 1:01:30Yeah, his tenure shift.
- 1:01:31Tenure.
- 1:01:32That's the word I was looking for.
- 1:01:33I don't... I feel like until we see the first few races, they're just...
- 1:01:36So do people in everyday life, but they still get screwed over with their tenure.
- 1:01:40Yeah, that's true.
- 1:01:41Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:01:42I mean, it's Carlos Sainz, dude.
- 1:01:44He's the number one driver.
- 1:01:47You have to... I don't think he comes there without that.
- 1:01:50I don't know if it's going to be a promise, right?
- 1:01:52Do you think just his driving skill would propel him to that number one regardless?
- 1:01:57Leclerc is clearly the number one at Ferrari.
- 1:01:59And again, I mean, Ferrari doesn't matter because it's not in the equation.
- 1:02:02Ferrari... Leclerc ain't going to be the number one next year.
- 1:02:05Yeah.
- 1:02:06I mean, just kind of going off what you said again, Williams... I don't see any flaw with
- 1:02:10them taking Carlos.
- 1:02:11They won.
- 1:02:12Right.
- 1:02:13Oh, for sure.
- 1:02:14They got what they wanted.
- 1:02:16They got what everyone should have wanted.
- 1:02:18Yeah, so they won.
- 1:02:19I was just kind of thinking from, again, Sainz's point of view, it's just a little weird.
- 1:02:23Yeah, but the Red Bull point you brought, that's something that's going to... I don't
- 1:02:29understand.
- 1:02:30I don't understand that.
- 1:02:33Unless it's like nobody wants to be for Samp's teammate.
- 1:02:36Which is absolutely a thought.
- 1:02:39It's got to be a thought.
- 1:02:40It's got to be a thought.
- 1:02:41Who has he worked well with, actually, Max?
- 1:02:44Danny.
- 1:02:45Did they?
- 1:02:46No.
- 1:02:47I think so.
- 1:02:48At first.
- 1:02:49I think they were good friends.
- 1:02:50I think it got to the same point where they were good.
- 1:02:54I think Max was still getting to being the best, and he was kind of crossing that threshold
- 1:02:59into being the number one driver with Danny, and I don't think Danny could hack it and
- 1:03:03wanted to accept that, and so he moved.
- 1:03:05100%.
- 1:03:06But I don't think they had a bad relationship.
- 1:03:07I still think they like each other a lot.
- 1:03:09I think...
- 1:03:10It's just on track.
- 1:03:11Max is Max.
- 1:03:12That's what it comes down to.
- 1:03:13I think off the track, I don't think there's a problem with first sapping.
- 1:03:17Max on the track and his antics on the track.
- 1:03:19Because even you look at... They had that... I can't remember the track.
- 1:03:23It might have been even Monaco where they ran into each other.
- 1:03:25Yep.
- 1:03:26I want to say it was Monaco.
- 1:03:27It was Monaco.
- 1:03:28Or it was either Monaco or Baku.
- 1:03:29I can't remember.
- 1:03:30I think it was Monaco.
- 1:03:31It was a street track.
- 1:03:32I know.
- 1:03:33But it was like that was kind of the demise of that team.
- 1:03:37Not the team.
- 1:03:38Red Bull.
- 1:03:39It was Danny and first sapping.
- 1:03:40Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:41So it's like when Max started heating up...
- 1:03:43He pushed him out.
- 1:03:46No, he pushed him out.
- 1:03:48Moving right along though.
- 1:03:49Got to keep him moving.
- 1:03:51Another seat locked down.
- 1:03:52Ocon to Haas.
- 1:03:54Obviously, Oliver Biermann in the other seat who is actually currently 15th in F2 standings.
- 1:03:59I don't know if that should be a concern for Haas or not.
- 1:04:03But Haas looking a little bit different next year.
- 1:04:07Yeah.
- 1:04:08Full team swap.
- 1:04:09Last time we saw that was... I mean, Mick and...
- 1:04:12Mazda Spin.
- 1:04:13Mazda Spin.
- 1:04:14Yeah.
- 1:04:15We all know how that ended.
- 1:04:17And then we got two vets in the seat and they did... I mean, they did better, right?
- 1:04:22Probably maybe even as best as they could have done.
- 1:04:25I think it's good that they have someone with experience driving an F1 car in the seat with
- 1:04:32new blood.
- 1:04:33I definitely don't think they're ever going to make the mistake of getting two new drivers
- 1:04:36again.
- 1:04:37Just so incredibly expensive.
- 1:04:38Biermann in 15th.
- 1:04:39Haas almost got out of F1 because of that.
- 1:04:40Yeah.
- 1:04:41Literally.
- 1:04:42They cut a lot of stuff at F1.
- 1:04:43Seriously.
- 1:04:46Yeah.
- 1:04:47Biermann in 15th.
- 1:04:48I think we're obviously going to see some mistakes starting out.
- 1:04:52I'm not too worried.
- 1:04:54Let's see what he can do when he gets into the seat itself.
- 1:04:59Yeah I'm excited to see how what he can do I guess.
- 1:05:01But I don't know if they really should be concerned at the moment.
- 1:05:04Sure.
- 1:05:05Fair enough.
- 1:05:06Maybe not as concerned as Ocon.
- 1:05:07I don't know what Ocon's going to do when he gets to Haas.
- 1:05:09I don't think they should be concerned about it.
- 1:05:11He's proven what he can do when he's in an F1 car in an F1 race.
- 1:05:13Granted, best car in the grid or one of the best cars in the grid at the time but he gained
- 1:05:17four places.
- 1:05:18Yeah.
- 1:05:19No he had a great race.
- 1:05:20Great showing.
- 1:05:21I don't think you should be concerned.
- 1:05:22I think you should be concerned more about Ocon being the teammate that's like the big
- 1:05:24brother.
- 1:05:25For sure.
- 1:05:26For sure.
- 1:05:27That's the mistake I think they made.
- 1:05:28I would agree with.
- 1:05:29Well.
- 1:05:30Yeah.
- 1:05:31Yeah.
- 1:05:32It'll be interesting.
- 1:05:33It'll be interesting.
- 1:05:34I'm curious how Ocon will accept that role.
- 1:05:36Yeah.
- 1:05:37Can he actually accept that role or is he not going to really care?
- 1:05:40No.
- 1:05:41Not that he has to baby Oliver but you know.
- 1:05:44I don't know.
- 1:05:45Whatever.
- 1:05:46Yeah.
- 1:05:47Bruno Famine will no longer be team principal at Alpine after the summer.
- 1:05:50Not the most massive news.
- 1:05:52Probably something we all kind of expected coming anyway because at some point somewhere
- 1:05:56you got to start making changes everywhere and they've started.
- 1:05:59He's also not supposed to be principal.
- 1:06:01Like he had to take over for Otmar.
- 1:06:03Oh yeah.
- 1:06:04Kind of like mid-season a few seasons ago.
- 1:06:07So he's not leaving the team.
- 1:06:09He's just going back to his I think his old role.
- 1:06:11So you know.
- 1:06:12I think it's expected.
- 1:06:13Who cares?
- 1:06:14We'll see if it makes a difference.
- 1:06:19But I don't know.
- 1:06:21We got rumors of not even secret meetings because it was caught on video but Horner
- 1:06:25and the V-car principal.
- 1:06:27We got Danny Rick.
- 1:06:29Just Tyler tell us what's going on with the Czechos.
- 1:06:32Just the whole Red Bull stuff heading into summer break here.
- 1:06:36Yeah.
- 1:06:37So just recently after the race there was a meeting with Horner, Mekis which is the
- 1:06:45Racing Bulls team principal and Danny Rick.
- 1:06:47Everybody was smiles shook hands.
- 1:06:49Danny Rick was all gippity gippity getting out of there right.
- 1:06:52So everybody was thinking oh Danny Rick's going to Red Bull.
- 1:06:55Nope.
- 1:06:56They had their meeting this morning.
- 1:06:57Marco and Horner and you know the brass at Red Bull sat down and Horner came out afterwards
- 1:07:02and committed to Checo.
- 1:07:04In quote he said Checo remains a Red Bull racing driver despite recent speculation and
- 1:07:08we look forward to seeing him perform at the tracks he has previously excelled at after
- 1:07:12the summer break.
- 1:07:13So silly season has kind of started to kind of like all right we're going to settle down.
- 1:07:19Carlos has signed, Ocon signed, Checo's staying.
- 1:07:24But I think what it does solidify I'm glad that like all that speculation is gone.
- 1:07:28I hated hearing about it.
- 1:07:29I think it was just overrunning the media with how good the F1 season has been.
- 1:07:32There's just been way too much drama that's taken away from the performance of the season.
- 1:07:37So with Carlos being gone, Checo rumors put to a squash.
- 1:07:41There's three spots left that are pretty undesirable.
- 1:07:45So it's like I think it's we're in a good place.
- 1:07:48But what I think it does do is I think it solidifies Danny Rick as that V-Carb driver
- 1:07:52for the rest of the year.
- 1:07:53For the rest of this season at least yeah for sure.
- 1:07:57You don't think so?
- 1:07:58No I think for the rest of this year yes but if I may put on my tin foil hat for a moment.
- 1:08:02Go for it.
- 1:08:04Red Bull announces Danny Rick to replace Checo next year.
- 1:08:09Maybe even during the summer break.
- 1:08:14So Horner's going to come out back up as driver but you're thinking that maybe still during
- 1:08:18the summer break that they announce that during the summer break during the summer break probably
- 1:08:23not going to happen again very tin foil hat moment for sure but being Checo being replaced
- 1:08:28still not out of the cards.
- 1:08:30So yes it's good to know right now that he has a seat after.
- 1:08:34That drama is not going to stop.
- 1:08:35And that's why I still count the V-Card seats still being open.
- 1:08:38Because like yeah Checo would probably you'd think would slide into that V-Carb but do
- 1:08:41they somehow still pay Checo whatever void the deal and put somebody else in the V-Card
- 1:08:46next year.
- 1:08:47I think at this point if this is kind of a situation that I'm I guess it's not a situation
- 1:08:52I'm hoping to happen but if it comes down to Checo being replaced I would like to see
- 1:08:56Liam Lawson take Danny Rick's spot and Checo become a reserve.
- 1:09:01I would agree with you and I to be honest with you I think that's how it would play
- 1:09:03out.
- 1:09:04I think if Checo is removed from the Red Bull seat then he has no business being on the
- 1:09:09V-Carb because that's the racing bulls whatever they go by.
- 1:09:15You know it's not a that's not a team designed for a Checo.
- 1:09:18It's not a team designed for a Danny Rick.
- 1:09:21So it's like so I think Danny Rick's not going to be on racing bull next year.
- 1:09:25I don't see that and I think it would be a huge huge disservice to see what we have in
- 1:09:30Liam Lawson not putting them in a seat next year.
- 1:09:34I think that guy I mean what he showed last year when he took over for Danny Rick when
- 1:09:37he got hurt like that kid has some speed and he has some promise and I want to see him
- 1:09:41in an F1 car every well not every race.
- 1:09:43Well and that brings us into the last part of the news here is talking about those remaining
- 1:09:47seats and we'll just start with that V-Carb and lock that up.
- 1:09:51We're thinking that that Liam's in the seat no matter what.
- 1:09:54It's interesting that you mentioned Checo as a reserve driver.
- 1:09:57Do you think Checo can accept that role?
- 1:10:00I don't think he has a choice.
- 1:10:02To stay close to F1.
- 1:10:03That's what I mean.
- 1:10:04That that like.
- 1:10:05Can he I mean will he be happy about it?
- 1:10:08Of course not.
- 1:10:10Can he accept it?
- 1:10:11He's going to have to.
- 1:10:12I mean we also have to think of that Checo bringing in a lot of like a lot of money just
- 1:10:17in in like how he got into F1 and also the the Mexico market as well.
- 1:10:22I think this is really important to Red Bull for sure.
- 1:10:26But yeah I just don't see like you said V-Carb is not a spot for.
- 1:10:33It's not a spot for vets.
- 1:10:34It's a spot for up up and comers to be put into the Red Bull.
- 1:10:37Marco has said that himself.
- 1:10:39Like it's it's just I just don't think it would be a smart move.
- 1:10:42It'd be an easy move to swap them right because it's less paperwork maybe and it's I guess
- 1:10:46less messy because you're not putting you know a driver in the top car on the grid into
- 1:10:51reserve which is insane.
- 1:10:53But at the same time man.
- 1:10:55Given the circumstances.
- 1:10:56Yeah given the circumstances he just hasn't been performing so yeah it's he it doesn't
- 1:11:03matter if he can't accept it he's going to have to.
- 1:11:06Like he doesn't.
- 1:11:07At some point.
- 1:11:08His only way is what's in his contract you know and if his contract says that they can
- 1:11:11do that and they could do it.
- 1:11:13Right right.
- 1:11:14He could I mean he could walk away but you're walking away from a lot of millions.
- 1:11:18Yeah they're still going to pay him if he's in reserve for Red Bull like he's still a
- 1:11:22spokesperson for him they're still going to pay him.
- 1:11:26Okay so we got the V carb seat locked up let's hypothetically say right we got Liam in the
- 1:11:31V carb seat.
- 1:11:32Let's say we got next year next year this is next season we're talking about.
- 1:11:36But a lot of this news could come out in the next three weeks.
- 1:11:39Let's say we got Antonelli locked up in the Mercedes seat you know that's the room been
- 1:11:42the rumor all year.
- 1:11:44Do you guys think there's any other chance.
- 1:11:46Yes well let me get to that because I am curious about that too and then we got Alpine seat
- 1:11:52will be gasoline's partner there and we got a steak seat still open.
- 1:11:57So we just kind of made a list of drivers and then let's circle back to Mercedes the
- 1:12:01drivers that we currently have on the list anyway.
- 1:12:04Current drivers you got both us you know he's still available as a possible option for a
- 1:12:08seat Joe Joe's probably done Logan's going to Indy KMag probably done I don't think there's
- 1:12:15enough there that you know maybe he can make a shot at a reserve driver but I honestly
- 1:12:21don't see it he's probably done Danny Rick we're thinking could be in a Red Bull next
- 1:12:26year and then you got Antonelli obviously Jack Duhan waiting for his chance you know
- 1:12:31Mick will probably get another opportunity just because of because of his last name and
- 1:12:36was kind of thrown into a bad situation.
- 1:12:39The rumor of the rumor of Vettel is always going to be around four time champ obviously
- 1:12:44but he is 37 years old unretired for the Senate tribute but obviously kind of a joke Nick
- 1:12:50DeVries will he ever get another shot.
- 1:12:53Why is he on this list?
- 1:12:54I had to throw him on there man.
- 1:12:55Why?
- 1:12:56Had to.
- 1:12:57That dude could perform in an Alfa Tori.
- 1:12:59Never know never know maybe somebody like Stakes is like screw it.
- 1:13:03Is he still a reserve driver for someone?
- 1:13:04I don't think so no he's racing in like what GP3 or whatever.
- 1:13:09So going back to your Mercedes point who else would you even put in a Mercedes car than
- 1:13:14Antonelli today?
- 1:13:16There's only one person that's viable outside of Antonelli and I think that would be Batsis
- 1:13:21just to get play that number two to play that teammate.
- 1:13:23That's interesting.
- 1:13:24I know you're gonna say Mick and I don't think Mick's an option next year.
- 1:13:28I 100% agree with everything he just said.
- 1:13:30I think Boulthoz would be an excellent option he'd be a great number two to George I think
- 1:13:35he still has enough skill to I mean I don't think George is gonna win a WDC right now
- 1:13:40but like I think he has enough skill to help him get to that point and be you know a great
- 1:13:44number two for the team.
- 1:13:46I also do not see Mick going right now and do a Mercedes.
- 1:13:49I think he needs another opportunity before he would get a big seat.
- 1:13:54Yeah I man Boulthoz to Mergue was not even something that I thought of but you're right
- 1:14:00it makes sense if they can't get Antonelli.
- 1:14:05That being said I feel like Boulthoz personally I feel like Boulthoz has the same possibility
- 1:14:11of getting a seat in that spot as Mick does which at the moment for me is no.
- 1:14:18No as Mick which at the moment is not is there's no possibility so I just don't think it's
- 1:14:22gonna happen.
- 1:14:23No I think we all agree that Antonelli is probably getting a seat.
- 1:14:26I mean it has to.
- 1:14:27It has to.
- 1:14:28Yeah I don't know.
- 1:14:29God that'd be crazy.
- 1:14:30What are they holding on for?
- 1:14:31Max to leave?
- 1:14:32Is that the only reason they haven't signed him?
- 1:14:34Is there waiting on Max?
- 1:14:35I mean Max has made it clear in the public that he's staying with Red Bull.
- 1:14:38He's also watching Antonelli just to make sure he's good to go.
- 1:14:44You lost out on everybody else.
- 1:14:46Yeah.
- 1:14:47When are you gonna take a shot?
- 1:14:48And hey maybe they already have their decision they're just waiting for some reason.
- 1:14:51So just to be the little toto being a little pressy.
- 1:14:55So Alpine and Mercedes, Liam Lawson and Vycarb who's taking those last two seats?
- 1:15:00Alpine and Stake.
- 1:15:02If Voltas doesn't go to Mercedes I think he has a good chance of staying at stake.
- 1:15:09Alpine it's either going to be Jack or Mick I believe.
- 1:15:14Mick because I don't know what it is but Toto has a connection to Alpine somehow.
- 1:15:20So it's either gonna be Duhan or Mick I believe.
- 1:15:24Who's in the second Alpine seat again?
- 1:15:27Gasly.
- 1:15:28Yeah so yeah I think that would be fine if they had a rookie or a returning driver.
- 1:15:33And then Stake.
- 1:15:36Yeah it's hard to think that Joe is gonna get re-signed.
- 1:15:39I heard he brings in good money though.
- 1:15:41So that might solidify him.
- 1:15:46But if it's not Joe then I think it's Voltas.
- 1:15:48I think he just re-signs.
- 1:15:49I didn't know Joe brought in a lot of money.
- 1:15:53That's interesting.
- 1:15:54I think there's another Checo situation where you might need him and it might be a good
- 1:15:58idea heading into Audi.
- 1:16:01He's not showing anything on the track.
- 1:16:06I agree 100% with you on Alpine.
- 1:16:08I think it's Mick or Duhan and I think it's gonna be Duhan.
- 1:16:11Just because he already has the connection.
- 1:16:14Because he's in Thayer Academy?
- 1:16:16He's a reserve driver.
- 1:16:17He was F2 last year though.
- 1:16:20Did he win last year?
- 1:16:22I'll double check.
- 1:16:23I feel like he won F3's championship.
- 1:16:26He was also a reserve driver last year.
- 1:16:31But nonetheless, so I think that Alpine spot, it's one of those two.
- 1:16:34I think it's pretty much locked up between one of those two.
- 1:16:38That Sauber spot, it's so irrelevant at the end of the day until we see something from
- 1:16:42him.
- 1:16:43It feels like Haas like four years ago.
- 1:16:45I don't think Sauber matters until 2026.
- 1:16:49Then we'll start actually talking about it.
- 1:16:51But K-Mag to stake, let's start it.
- 1:16:54That'd be crazy.
- 1:16:55But I think it's gonna be Bautista at the end of the day.
- 1:16:59I don't see really what other option is out there.
- 1:17:03It's at least a somewhat safe.
- 1:17:05It's not gonna be Jo.
- 1:17:07He's proven he can't.
- 1:17:08And that's the money is that big.
- 1:17:10You saying K-Mag to stake is just so funny.
- 1:17:12They just take Haas's driver lineup.
- 1:17:15That's crazy.
- 1:17:16But I think Valtteri would bring in quite a lot of money too.
- 1:17:18Valtteri has to be bringing in a good amount.
- 1:17:21With his calendars, yeah.
- 1:17:22Yeah, I'm saying it is.
- 1:17:23But I also said, I mean hey, I said this last week as well, Bautista already looks like
- 1:17:31he's retired so he could just do that.
- 1:17:33Like you said, that would be the most Bautista.
- 1:17:35Nobody would be surprised.
- 1:17:36It would be such a Bautista.
- 1:17:37You know what?
- 1:17:38I think I'm okay.
- 1:17:39I don't think he wants to do that but I feel like he would settle into that life very well.
- 1:17:44Is there anything else mentioning before we head into summer break?
- 1:17:48Is there anything else that could possibly happen that would blow your freaking mind?
- 1:17:51I don't really think so.
- 1:17:52I wish we had closed dark web but.
- 1:17:55For it to be silly season, a lot of the silliness because of the driver market being open has
- 1:18:00already kind of cleared its way to this point.
- 1:18:02Well and we were looking forward to that Red Bull speculation for the next couple weeks
- 1:18:06and to maybe get a surprise all of a sudden and then now that's already shot down.
- 1:18:10So yeah, like you said, it's like okay.
- 1:18:12So I don't know.
- 1:18:13So it's unsigned with Haas.
- 1:18:14Okay, that's another Seekon.
- 1:18:15Okay, Carlos has signed.
- 1:18:16Okay.
- 1:18:17That was like the biggest one for sure.
- 1:18:19Yeah, I guess the Merc seat is now the really big one.
- 1:18:23But we think it's going to be Antonelli.
- 1:18:25I'm keyed in on steak.
- 1:18:26Even if Antonelli gets into that seat, that's still crazy news.
- 1:18:30I think it would be.
- 1:18:33I think it would be if it already wasn't already just predicted.
- 1:18:35Sure.
- 1:18:36You know, if it was like going into the year, I think if they would have made that decision
- 1:18:39right away, it would be like holy crap, Mercedes.
- 1:18:42What are you doing?
- 1:18:43Do you think a little bit of it at this, I mean, do you think it not doing that from
- 1:18:47the start, you know how much pressure that puts on him to perform at the F2 level?
- 1:18:51Say that again?
- 1:18:54If Mercedes would have started the year saying, yep, Kimmy's our driver next year.
- 1:18:57Oh.
- 1:18:58How much pressure that would have put on him to perform.
- 1:19:00But I mean, the rumors have already been there all year.
- 1:19:02Yeah.
- 1:19:03But then again, do you want to-
- 1:19:04Well, since Lewis's departure.
- 1:19:07You also might want to put that pressure on him and see how he handles it.
- 1:19:10Which he came out and said last week that he's not sure if he's ready for that.
- 1:19:14He don't know if he's handling it well.
- 1:19:15He doesn't even know.
- 1:19:16Like, yeah, that's just got to be, that's a red flag to me.
- 1:19:19Like we like we touched on last week.
- 1:19:21That's a red flag.
- 1:19:22Like is that fun driver?
- 1:19:23You got to be about what you're about.
- 1:19:24You know what I mean?
- 1:19:25Yeah.
- 1:19:26So definitely something to keep an eye on through this summer break.
- 1:19:30With that, well, man, this episode was a doozy.
- 1:19:33This was a long winded episode.
- 1:19:34We had a lot of information to get out.
- 1:19:36You're not going to see us for a couple of weeks anyway.
- 1:19:40So yeah, we just had to get it out.
- 1:19:42Obviously once again, sad to see Tyler go.
- 1:19:47Take his hiatus here as he becomes a father of a third child.
- 1:19:51Big congrats though.
- 1:19:52Thank you.
- 1:19:53Thank you.
