- 0:00Let's talk about the transfer deal that sort of did it shock everyone.
- 0:04The one that came out of nowhere.
- 0:05Shook the world.
- 0:06The straight swap.
- 0:08Yeah, well, shook our world.
- 0:10The straight swap, Brennan Johnson, for Dwight McNeil.
- 0:13What did you think when you heard that tone?
- 0:15Do you know what?
- 0:16I was made up because your first thoughts and reaction to Brennan Johnson, he's a player who can make a difference.
- 0:21And so was Dwight McNeil, to be fair, but for some reason he just didn't feature as much as he probably would have liked to under the gaffer, so...
- 0:28I get the move, I understand the move.
- 0:31And Berenon Johnson hasn't really played much football.
- 0:33Speaking to Spurs fans, a couple that I've got, a couple I work with at Matchroom, they were like, they just don't see him doing anything for us.
- 0:42And I was like, well, I disagree.
- 0:43And they were like, well, you're going to, because he's a new player for you.
- 0:46I just feel in two years he will have left you and he won't have done a single thing.
- 0:51But they also did say we hope we're wrong.
- 0:54But that was their opinion and their verigrass.
- 0:57Was that just because you were a bit different weight from them and they were like middleweights and lightweights and didn't want to anger you too much?
- 1:04No, no, no.
- 1:04These weren't actual fighters, Leon.
- 1:05Come on, behave now.
- 1:07Well, no wonder they said they hope you get what you want out of him.
- 1:10No wonder they bottled it as you were probably looking all aggressive, probably spitting on them a little bit by accident.
- 1:15They were so dismissive.
- 1:18I don't know.
- 1:20It just gives me a little bit of a weird feeling, but I just think he's a top player.
- 1:26Top talent and here's the bit that I like the most.
- 1:29He bit back at Gabby Agbono and the Little Lakes Jamie O'Hara.
- 1:33He bit back at them.
- 1:34He just beat me to it.
- 1:35I was going to ask.
- 1:36I like that.
- 1:37I like that because when a player bites back, that means he's got his back up.
- 1:40He takes offence on him because they all just go shy and quiet and don't say nothing back and never retaliate.
- 1:46And I love the fact that he just put one more than both of these put together.
- 1:49Brilliant.
- 1:50Well done, lad.
- 1:51absolutely spot on, on the money, brilliant, now go and show us what you've won and show us how you've won it because that's what I want to see at the end of this.
- 1:59I liked it as well.
- 2:00I found it strange that they had another, I think they had another bite back at him as if like, he didn't have the right to have a swing back after they publicly tried to sort of embarrass him.
- 2:08Gabby apologised.
- 2:10Did he?
- 2:11But Chops tried to double down again, didn't he?
- 2:14Well, he was crap last season.
- 2:15Well, I mean, I don't remember Jamie Warrer having a good season.
- 2:19Never mind, like, crap.
- 2:21I don't remember him having a good one.
- 2:22I mean, does anyone else remember him having a good one?
- 2:24I mean, when he pulled Dominic, he put Dominic Albert-Lewin on something once with me on air.
- 2:30And I just went and got the stats and he was like, Dominic Ingle, he's made out of paper mache.
- 2:34He's never fit, he's always injured.
- 2:37And I was like, what was the most amount of minutes you played in a season?
- 2:41Jamie, and he couldn't answer it.
- 2:42And I'd done a bit of research and a bit of digging and it seemed that Dominic Cavaluna played like four times as many minutes in one season than he played in the whole, in any season before.
- 2:51So it just goes to show you, I mean, you should not throw stones in glass houses, little legs, you just leave it alone and then take your small backside back home.
- 2:59I wanted you to finish that thing before I turned and reminded you of last week and called you a perv because you went and done research and you went and looked stuff up and you went and did the research on somebody's career and did the details.
- 3:14This was an argument and I had to do the research to back up the clothes.
- 3:17Pervy behaviour.
- 3:19No, no, pervy behaviour.
- 3:21It takes one to know one.
- 3:23Yeah, it does.
- 3:24But pervert behaviour is knowing how many goals or assists Ian Rush had had.
- 3:29Because believe you me, they were in black and white TVs and no one was talking about assist.
- 3:33The word assist didn't even...
- 3:38It wasn't a thing back then.
- 3:40The word assist was only invented literally, I'm not joking, in the last five, six years.
- 3:46It's only become prevalent in the last five or six years.
- 3:49It's only become big as people double down, treble down on the data.
- 3:54That's for sure.
- 3:57People from the early Premier League days, probably if someone did what Tony's asking, went back and did all the stuff, probably everyone's assists will go 50% minimum.
- 4:10However, just quick back on Brennan Johnson.
- 4:14You said about Dwight McNeil not getting his place.
- 4:16Well, I just think when you look around the Everton squad of last year and you've got, he's never really going to play in the middle.
- 4:23Then you've got Grealish, you had on one side, and Jai on the other.
- 4:26Then you had other people to come in, maybe a Dibbler, maybe all these people.
- 4:30He was struggling for time because I think the players...
- 4:35he's trying to replace a very similar in terms of wanting the ball to feet, wanting to deliver good, good crosses.
- 4:41I mean, when he came in, like performances away with the Emirates, I thought he did okay.
- 4:45I thought he actually tried to deliver, but he's always coming in and sort of,
- 4:52replacing something like for like, and probably, if I'm being completely honest, not as good as the players he's replacing.
- 4:59And when, when, when you're, when you're a manager and when people criticize managers for not making changes at times, I think quite often if a manager's looking to make a change and he's looking to his bench and everything on his bench is similar to what he's got on the pitch, but what he's got on the pitch is actually better than a manager is going to be reluctant to make changes.
- 5:18I think with Brennan Johnson, in my opinion, he's,
- 5:22He's different from what we've got.
- 5:24I sort of think about him in terms of like a Raheem Sterling, maybe not as good as Raheem Sterling, or certainly he's got a lot to prove to be talked about in that way.
- 5:34But in terms of, think about his time at City, Raheem Sterling scored loads of goals, one touch at the back post, because things were getting flashed across, and he was in there to get loads of goals.
- 5:44Because he's a guy who arrives...
- 5:46People would be on the halfway and I'd look up still and make a run over the top, blaming.
- 5:50All of those kind of things.
- 5:51Doesn't want the ball to feet.
- 5:53Well, that's the good thing about Brennan Johnson for us.
- 5:55Because you think about it.
- 5:56Njai wants the ball to feet.
- 5:57Dibblom wants the ball to feet.
- 5:59Do as we all is a bit of a mixture of both.
- 6:02He'll do a bit of both.
- 6:03But majority wants the ball to feet.
- 6:05So when you're looking to make changes or you're looking to have balance in your team,
- 6:10I think Brennan Johnson could be good for us in terms of he'll run the other way.
- 6:13I talk about it all the time.
- 6:15You need people that do, you need balance in your team, people that run to the other end of the pitch.
- 6:22Time will tell whether he's actually going to be good for us.
- 6:24I had a message from a friend straight away saying, Brennan Johnson going to Everton, he is the least Everton player in terms of,
- 6:35the fans will get on his back within 10 minutes because his body language is bad.
- 6:39His thing, you know, is the way he goes about it.
- 6:41He's frustrating.
- 6:43He's, as Tony was sort of touching on what people have watched him regularly say, he flatters to deceive, doesn't produce as much.
- 6:51But I think if you get people the right environment, and Everton might be the right environment for him, just run around, show the club that you work really hard, sprint after Everton, chase the ball over the top and get yourself in at the back post for...
- 7:03I mean, I think he could get over 10 goals from a wide position this season, arriving or flashing things across and asking for other people to get on the end of the show.
- 7:11He's got enough for a goal.
- 7:14Finding himself in the right place at the right time.
- 7:16Yeah, I don't think he scored for Palace.
- 7:19Did he have two the year before for Spurs?
- 7:22But he did win the European Cup, haven't scored in the final, because he finds himself in their moments.
- 7:27And if we can get a little bit of that out of him...
- 7:29then I'm suddenly looking and thinking, our team could be really balanced.
- 7:33And I'm looking forward to seeing it.
- 7:34Another good signing that we just managed to get in.
- 7:37Yeah, I thought he was really good at Forrest before those two stints at Spurs and Palace.
- 7:41And I think Moyes will be a good manager for him as well to sort of bring in that sort of work ethic and more stability to his game.
- 7:51Anyone heard the rumours about Munoz?
- 7:55Heard the rumours, but I don't know if they've made any further than that.
- 8:00Would he be a good one for you, Tony?
- 8:02Yes.
- 8:03Oh, yes.
- 8:05Absolutely.
- 8:06That's probably as excited as I've heard you.
- 8:09Yep.
- 8:09He's a premiership player, mate.
- 8:12Very good player.
- 8:14I would have thought he'd have been sought after by a number of clubs, to be honest.
- 8:19Yeah, the only thing about him is he's played his last three seasons, maybe, and I don't know what his time was before that, as a right wing-back.
- 8:28We're never going to play him as a right wing-back, so he'd have to come in and know the difference between playing wing-back and playing full-back, because they are different.
- 8:36You're restricted a little bit more, you play a little bit deeper, you need to be connected to your centre-halves, which is...
- 8:42He's literally played like a...
- 8:43He's basically done the whole right side, hasn't he, for Palace the last few years.
- 8:46But there's no doubt that he's the type of player that I think we would like because he shows he can defend.
- 8:54He's decent in 1v1s.
- 8:56I don't remember him really getting embarrassed and done on a regular basis.
- 9:01And he gets forward and delivers good crosses and scores goals as well.
- 9:05Yeah.
- 9:05Yeah, he was great last year.
- 9:06Yeah.
- 9:08Right, let's crack on.
- 9:09Premier League weekend is up and coming.
- 9:11It's Premier League predictions week on Outside the Box.
- 9:15So the way it's going to work, going to go through each club very briefly.
- 9:18You guys are going to say where you think they're going to be placed in the league.
- 9:21And then at the end, I'll ask a couple of bigger questions around what we think is going to happen throughout the year.
- 9:26So kicking us off...
- 9:28The current holders, Arsenal.
- 9:31Are they still the favourites of the league?
- 9:33Aussie, well, you want me to go to Tony first, don't you?
- 9:36No, no.
- 9:36I think so.
- 9:38You've either going to... Yeah.
- 9:42I think D do it again.
- 9:43I'm going Arsenal top.
- 9:47Aussie, what do you think?
- 9:48I agree with that.
- 9:49I think Arsenal will win again.
- 9:54I think they might win comfortably this year.
- 9:58I think that if I look back to over the time of teams, United early, Chelsea, Arsenal less so, but Chelsea under Mourinho, and I look at these teams, City,
- 10:15And I look at when they won their first title and how difficult it seemed and how they stumbled in the season before and never got over the line.
- 10:23But then once they got that first one done, the first one in the bag, it sort of started a run.
- 10:29It started sort of a little bit of time in possession of the trophy.
- 10:34The second one seemed to be easier to win.
- 10:37And I know Liverpool have won titles and not been able to back it up, but I look at this Arsenal team and they've only let Trossard go.
- 10:44They've brought in a fella, Tolis, who's going to play left wing.
- 10:48I think he's a Greek fella.
- 10:50Bruno Gimores has come in as well.
- 10:52So they've proper strengthened in good positions.
- 10:58The centre-halves are good.
- 10:59I'm hearing it this morning that they're trying to get Gerald Kwanza in.
- 11:03who used to play for Liverpool.
- 11:04Yeah, I'm hearing a rumour that they're trying to get him in.
- 11:08But the point is, they are champions and strengthened them properly.
- 11:12And I said when Liverpool were champions and they strengthened, I thought that would make them win the league at a canter.
- 11:17But obviously, it shows how hard it is to predict.
- 11:22On a slot, second season did to Liverpool what Roberto kind of did to us in his second and third seasons and things fall apart.
- 11:30Brought in wing-backs rather than full-backs in terms of who he brought.
- 11:36And I look around the league and I think City, new manager, Chelsea, new manager, could be good.
- 11:42Don't know anything about the United Spurs, Liverpool.
- 11:45I think they've all got weaker this season and Arsenal may have got stronger.
- 11:51So, yeah, that's why I've got Arsenal to win.
- 11:54Yeah, I think Bruno's a massive signing for them.
- 11:56I think there was probably an argument last year that Arsenal don't play the most attractive football in the world, but we're still winning.
- 12:02I think Bruno could change that and elevate their game even further.
- 12:07Yeah, and they're a squad now.
- 12:09They lost in the Champions League final.
- 12:11They lost in the final of the Carabao Cup.
- 12:15I think they're a squad.
- 12:17They are now looking at all the trophies.
- 12:19And that's why, you know, you've got Zubimendi, you've got Rice, you've got Bruno Gimres, you've got Odegaard, Eze plays in the middle.
- 12:26They've now got a lot of people for a lot of positions.
- 12:30And I think they'll all, and I still think they'll all play at times and look good.
- 12:34I'll be in Chelsea, she on Sunday.
- 12:38Yeah, yeah, that'll be a...
- 12:40It's funny, that one, whether you say it's a sign.
- 12:43Everyone wants to win that first one of the season.
- 12:47But I don't know how much merit it actually has with regards to whether you're going to win the league.
- 12:52But it always seems like you want to win it.
- 12:55It's a glorified friendly, isn't it?
- 12:58It is, but you get there by being successful the previous year, don't you?
- 13:03So it's an opportunity to win more silverware.
- 13:07When you look at Sir Alex Ferguson and Pep Guardiola's amount of trophies they win, Charity Shields are always on there.
- 13:16Oh yeah, yeah.
- 13:17So don't mess around about that.
- 13:19When we had that debate around gigs and how many trophies he used, well, nine of them were Charity Shields.
- 13:24Nine.
- 13:26So they're all charity shields.
- 13:28So you say glorified friendlies, but they're a major trophy.
- 13:31count or don't have our major trophy house come on but i know what you're saying but okay you've got the but it's like the super cup we just had the super cup haven't we psg just just beat just yeah but it's so pierce just beat asta villa and yes it is a major trophy but it's the winner of the champions league plays the winner of the europa league well our charity shield is the winner of the league plays the winner of the fa cup to see who's so if you think about it in them terms
- 14:00Yeah, it's a fair point, but yeah, I mean, it's not a patch on the Super Cup.
- 14:05What a game that was, by the way, as well.
- 14:06It was a good game.
- 14:07How good's that kid up top, Macho?
- 14:10You watched that, but didn't watch Everton's Friendly against Newcastle?
- 14:13I just happened to come across it, mate.
- 14:15That's an incredible thing.
- 14:16I just happened to come across it and see that Macho kid.
- 14:19I didn't see it.
- 14:20I couldn't tell you.
- 14:21You want to see him, mate?
- 14:22He's a machine.
- 14:23This kid.
- 14:24Oh, wow.
- 14:26Proper machine.
- 14:28Right, okay, so I'm going Arsenal.
- 14:29So, Arsenal top of the league, both of you.
- 14:31Next up, Aston Villa.
- 14:34I'm...
- 14:37I'm...
- 14:39I just...
- 14:40I keep thinking, how's Maresca going to do at City?
- 14:45It's a lot he's got on his plate, mate.
- 14:47Is it the Poison Chalice, similar to the Fergie job?
- 14:51Man United, you know, you're filling someone's boots that are unfillable, really.
- 14:57Is he talking after Villa or is he talking about City?
- 15:00I'm talking about City finishing second, you don't.
- 15:02He's picked Villa.
- 15:03I haven't picked Villa.
- 15:04No, he hasn't.
- 15:06No, no.
- 15:07So it's not here.
- 15:08So I'm saying, so I'm going off Betts Galore there of where you think.
- 15:11Oh, for fuck's sake.
- 15:14Yeah.
- 15:15You don't.
- 15:16So, so you guys, where do I think Villa finish?
- 15:18That's a good way to do it, isn't it?
- 15:20Okay, I think Villa finish.
- 15:22I'd rate him as a top, top manager.
- 15:25Yeah.
- 15:27Lost some players though.
- 15:29It's mad that he didn't work at Arsenal.
- 15:31I just find it baffling that how it didn't work out with Arsenal and United.
- 15:37I'm going to go Villa finishing... sixth.
- 15:44Okey-doke.
- 15:45Ozzy?
- 15:47I've got them seventh.
- 15:49Yeah, I just think that obviously losing Morgan Rodgers is huge.
- 15:58And I know they spent money to try and replace him.
- 16:02But they've also lost Tielemans in the middle of the pitch.
- 16:06Those were two huge players for them over the last few seasons.
- 16:09You go back the season before and they lost another couple of players over the summer.
- 16:13I thought they struggled last year.
- 16:16I was weighing up in my mind which way they'd go, because as Tony's just pointed out, Unai Emery is a ridiculously good manager.
- 16:23Always seems to find a way, no matter who he's got.
- 16:26And they brought in that man, Zambi, from Freiburg, who was very good for Switzerland in the summer.
- 16:32Giao Gomez coming from Wolves.
- 16:34So I think they have strengthened well, but I just don't know if you get the same as what Rodgers has just been giving you and what Telemans has been giving you.
- 16:41Not right away, anyway.
- 16:42Plus, they're in the Champions League, which always makes it a bit more difficult to marriage, although he's a European specialist, isn't he?
- 16:51when it comes to it, but I just think putting those things together, I was debating whether they were going to finish 6th or 7th, and I've gone for 7th.
- 17:02I think it's just going to be a little bit too much with that changeover, but that still wouldn't be a bad season, I don't think, for Villa.
- 17:09I still think it'd be classed as a good season, and I'd expect them to then kick on again the following year.
- 17:14It's one of those, isn't it, where...
- 17:18start to get used to Champions League football and on the precipice of winning all, like they did actually winning trophies and on being there.
- 17:26And then you're never able to sustain that constantly.
- 17:30Everybody, even champions, miss out on the title every now and again.
- 17:33And I just think Villa, I think Villa's, this is going to be their season where they just can't quite achieve what they're going to.
- 17:40And they might step on next season, but I just think this is that season now.
- 17:42So I've got them seventh.
- 17:44I see a huge injury to Onana as well, which is a big part of their midfield from the World Cup.
- 17:50Could see a place for Ross Barkley though, which would be quite nice.
- 17:53Yeah, he's still there, able to do it, whether he can hit the heights that he did.
- 17:57Because Onana, I've never really been cemented on him.
- 18:02I thought we did great business getting rid of him.
- 18:05Okey doke, I've put that one down.
- 18:09Bournemouth.
- 18:10I think they're going to struggle this year.
- 18:12And I don't hear Eola going, obviously, to the shite.
- 18:19I think they're going to struggle, mate.
- 18:21I'm going to go, I think Bournemouth are going to be about 14th.
- 18:27I've got them lower.
- 18:29I've got them even lower.
- 18:31I've got them, I mean, obviously, I've got them 16th out of, you know, 17th plate stays in the Premier League.
- 18:38I've got them 16th now.
- 18:40They've obviously got decent players, but they're
- 18:44They've got rid of Sinistero, they've got rid of Sinesi.
- 18:50Big centre-half for them, important.
- 18:52I don't know if this replacement will manage it.
- 18:55They've brought in a new fella, Marco Rose.
- 19:02Good at RB Leipzig, finished third in the league.
- 19:05But coming to the Premier League is new.
- 19:08People don't always hit the ground running.
- 19:10So they've got a new manager.
- 19:12And they've got European football.
- 19:14And there's a big transition.
- 19:15So, I don't think they've played in European football before.
- 19:18So, that brings its challenges.
- 19:21I don't think their squad is huge.
- 19:23So, suddenly now, them players are playing the same week in, week out.
- 19:27New manager, all of that.
- 19:29Yeah, I think this is the big one.
- 19:30I think they're going to have a huge dip this season.
- 19:33A bit like Forrest did last season in terms of the European football really hit them.
- 19:39How much harder is it for you as a player playing in Europe?
- 19:42Like, them extra games, how hard is that as a player to adapt to?
- 19:47Do you know what?
- 19:48Physically...
- 19:50Depends on the demands of each game, but physically you can manage playing Saturday, Wednesday or Thursday, Sunday or whatever it is.
- 19:57One of the issues is lack of sort of preparation for games.
- 20:01So in the world now where, you know, managers and tactics are huge and how you look at games and how you set up against the opponents and where you get your advantage,
- 20:12This all happens on the trainer pitch, looking at the opposition, watching videos.
- 20:15Well, when you're playing Saturday, Thursday, Sunday, Thursday, Wednesday, wherever it might be, you're not really getting a look.
- 20:22You're not getting to prepare or anything.
- 20:23So you're basically just going and playing the way you want to.
- 20:25And the opposition can prepare against you.
- 20:27You don't always get to prepare against them.
- 20:30It's definitely easy on the young legs.
- 20:32When you get to 30-plus, it gets a little bit...
- 20:36a little bit harder to play all those games a week, but it's more about preparation than anything and freshness, that mental freshness.
- 20:45I've been waiting all week for this game.
- 20:48When you're doing the other game, games just come so thick and fast.
- 20:50They're upon you before you even know about it.
- 20:53And I think Bourbon will fall foul of that this year.
- 20:57You want Nos to be...
- 20:58I mean, obviously every player wants to play, but when you're in Europe and you're in the cup competition, you're in the league...
- 21:06Are you kind of going, oh, I could do it a week off here, or maybe I don't want to play all these games, or I want to be fresh for that game.
- 21:13I'm looking at that game, and that's the game I really want to shine in.
- 21:16I know I've got to be, not rested, but you know what I mean?
- 21:19I'll do 60 minutes here.
- 21:20Yeah, I never, in terms of looking three or four games ahead, I just wanted to stay in the team, wanted to play the next game.
- 21:27Didn't want to miss a minute, didn't want to come off.
- 21:29Wanted to play every minute.
- 21:31Now, I had a knee injury early, which I needed to manage.
- 21:35So that was more my thing game to game.
- 21:38How did my knee feel?
- 21:39Was my knee okay?
- 21:40Was it swelled up too much?
- 21:42Could I still be as close to the best physically as I possibly could?
- 21:48Not my muscles, my actual knee would swell.
- 21:50So I'd have to manage that between games.
- 21:52And early to, well, probably until I was about 30, that was...
- 21:57really not easy to do, but it was part and parcel.
- 21:59I managed it into your, into my thirties.
- 22:02We need did take that extra day or two before it felt at its best.
- 22:07Um, and those are the moments where you're thinking, this game's come a bit quick.
- 22:11This game's probably a day or two, too early for me, but I still don't want to miss it.
- 22:15But you knew these games were coming a little bit,
- 22:18A little bit quicker than your body was probably ready for at that point.
- 22:21But that's what squads are for, isn't it?
- 22:22And the manager's supposed to see that.
- 22:25And again, it's not a game you want to miss.
- 22:29You've worked hard to play in Europe.
- 22:31You want to play as many games as you can, but it can take its toll, definitely.
- 22:39Next up, Brentford.
- 22:42Oh, decent, a difficult one to place.
- 22:44Keith Andrews, his second year in charge.
- 22:50They performed above expectations last year.
- 22:53They did and that forward got them through an awful lot, Thiago.
- 23:01I don't know.
- 23:02I don't know.
- 23:05Part of me thinks he's here one season wonder.
- 23:11I just don't know.
- 23:12I'm gonna go, I think we should be finishing above Brenton and I think we can.
- 23:23I'm going to go Brentford to finish 11th.
- 23:31For anyone listening, I'm sorry that the amount of dead space there is while Tony's thinking.
- 23:3611th.
- 23:37Piss off you.
- 23:38There's not much pain in there.
- 23:40That gif of all the maths equations going around.
- 23:43You guys, the pop-ups are going to put round his head here.
- 23:46Yeah.
- 23:47There you go.
- 23:49It's what happens if you don't prepare properly.
- 23:51Well, don't start me off you.
- 23:53Come on, Brentford, where do you finish in the smarts' ass?
- 23:55I've got Brentford 11th.
- 23:58Oh, fuck.
- 23:59All the preparation and I just put out an idea as me.
- 24:01Yeah, yeah, there you go.
- 24:02Well done.
- 24:03Who needs prep, sorry?
- 24:05I've got them finishing 11th.
- 24:08Pretty much what you just said, though, in terms of that they had a really good season last season.
- 24:12Caught a few people off guard, I think.
- 24:15I think teams will be ready for long throw-ins and set pieces.
- 24:19They've brought some decent players.
- 24:22Jadon Anthony from Burnley.
- 24:24Yeah, Jadon Anthony from Burnley is their best player.
- 24:26Callum Wilson, we know, scores goals when he's fit.
- 24:30I swear to God, he's got a fantasy show when he's attacking.
- 24:36Say that again.
- 24:37If he comes on the pitch this year, I'm going to attack him.
- 24:42I'm not joking.
- 24:43If he turns up a little Dickinson and gets on that pitch, I'm running out.
- 24:47I can't take him anymore.
- 24:48He just scores against Everton.
- 24:49Every single time that man gets on a pitch against Everton, he just wants to score.
- 24:53And he does score.
- 24:55And I've had another one now.
- 24:56The striker?
- 24:57Callum Wilson.
- 24:57Callum Wilson.
- 24:59I thought you were talking about, what's their big centre-forward called?
- 25:02No, he's got it.
- 25:02I'd love to see that duel.
- 25:04Thiago.
- 25:04If he scores, get on against him.
- 25:08go running on against Igor Tiago I'm not planning any comeback soon but I swear to God Callum Wilson comes off that bench don't be running on against the little fellas run on against the big fellas Igor Tiago I can handle but no no that Callum Wilson it's just it's every time against Devin every single time
- 25:28I just can't take any more of it.
- 25:30Yeah, I know what you mean.
- 25:32I've got them 11th.
- 25:34As I said, I just think that...
- 25:36I don't think they'll be anywhere near the relegation, but I don't think they'll be qualifying for Europe.
- 25:40I've got them in that...
- 25:42I could have picked three or four positions for them, but I settled on 11th.
- 25:45Yeah.
- 25:46Brighton.
- 25:48They never cease to amaze me, Brighton.
- 25:51Every year, they just...
- 25:53They're always up there, aren't they?
- 25:53What a academy, what a youth system.
- 25:55The way they bring players through, they just buy them, sell them as if it's not, and then they just find more.
- 26:00It's great, isn't it?
- 26:02And there's absolutely...
- 26:04The reason why them players flourish at Brentford so much is because there's zero expectation on them.
- 26:09They all play really well.
- 26:11The crowd loves them.
- 26:13It's just because it's Brighton.
- 26:15But it's funny, isn't it?
- 26:16The minute they get...
- 26:18The minute that other people, you know, they go to other clubs, they just fail to really do much.
- 26:26I don't really see players that go from Brighton and really shine, if that makes sense.
- 26:30I don't really see them tear things up when they leave Brighton.
- 26:33I've seen very few do it, if any, if I'm being totally honest.
- 26:38So, I'm going to have Brighton at 12th.
- 26:45Ooh, it's a bit powerful then.
- 26:47Brighton have had a dip.
- 26:49Yeah.
- 26:51Brighton are in Europe this year as well, aren't they?
- 26:53Yes, they are.
- 26:54They're in the conference league.
- 26:56Yeah, so Brighton are in Europe, and you can seem to manage in the conference league better.
- 27:00So I've got Brighton 9th.
- 27:04and I think they will dip a little bit because of the extra European games.
- 27:11And I think Danny Welbeck leaving might hurt.
- 27:14Van Hecker leaving might hurt.
- 27:16And I'll just look at...
- 27:18I don't know whether the people they've brought in will replace them as well.
- 27:22They brought in Pascal Straug from Leeds.
- 27:26And they have brought a couple of other attacking, exciting players, but...
- 27:31I don't know, with the extra games and all that, I've got them at ninth.
- 27:36I think, again, they'll have a nice season in Europe.
- 27:40I think they'll enjoy themselves.
- 27:41I don't think they'll be able to win as many Premier League games because of that.
- 27:46For sure.
- 27:48Big one, Chelsea.
- 27:49First season under Xabi Alonso.
- 27:51Where are we popping them?
- 27:54Fourth.
- 27:58I've gone third.
- 27:58Third.
- 28:00Oh, big season for Chelsea.
- 28:02He's not allowed.
- 28:03Yeah, but for me, this is subject to what I'm going to tell you about Man City in a bit.
- 28:11I think Chelsea will be okay this year.
- 28:13I think they're signing good players.
- 28:15I think they're getting good characters in the squad.
- 28:18I think if you look at, I mean, they put Morgan Rodgers.
- 28:21They've got...
- 28:23Caicedo, they've got some top players, they've got strikers and Joe Pedro, Cole Palmer is surely going to have a return to form.
- 28:30How does he fit them all in?
- 28:32Yeah, and the sign of defenders, that's the manager's job.
- 28:35And the thing, as you say, how do you fit them all in?
- 28:37That's going to be huge because they've got no European football this season.
- 28:41And that's the reason why I think they're going to be... And they've got egos in that dressing room.
- 28:44That's what they've got, they've got egos.
- 28:45And then when them egos aren't playing, mate, them egos turn...
- 28:48And people are underestimating that.
- 28:50How much of an effect that can have in a dressing room, I think, and that's going to be the downfall of them.
- 28:54Yeah, well, I think it's been the downfall for a while, and that's why they've brought in Jordan Henderson, who's pretty much won everything in the game, as an outfield player in the dressing room.
- 29:03You're Bessie.
- 29:05Just someone to be...
- 29:07But when you're coming in, and even Danny Welbeck, when you're coming in as a player with the experience and you're hoping everyone's listening to him, you're coming in as a player that's won everything.
- 29:16And these young kids are now trying to be cheeky or whatever you'd call it.
- 29:21And he goes, and you're someone who's actually been there, done it all, got the T-shirt.
- 29:25Whether you like him or not, he has.
- 29:28So suddenly you basically tell them to shut up because you know what you're talking about.
- 29:32And that should be a huge influence on the squad.
- 29:36the places he's going now, I get last season where he was and he didn't really play that much, but, he might not play much here either.
- 29:43He might not play much at Chelsea.
- 29:44Is he a coach or is he a player?
- 29:47Is he signed as a coach for Chelsea?
- 29:48Here we go.
- 29:50Is he a coach?
- 29:51I don't knock him at all.
- 29:52He's been a fantastic player.
- 29:54What he's won, it's fantastic and anyone a dream of having the career he's had.
- 29:57But I feel like you're at a stage in your Kadiwe, you're holding on by the skin of your teeth and you're not actually playing.
- 30:04You're going places because you've got influence over people, not because of your playing ability, because you're actually not going to play.
- 30:10I'll tell you this, though.
- 30:11You're a long time retired.
- 30:12That was what you'd always say.
- 30:13So if you can go and get paid for playing football, because you'll never get that kind of wage again.
- 30:18If you can go and get paid for playing football, even if you're playing 10 times a season, 15 times a season, it's better than not.
- 30:26And if you can have an influence... Shows your loyalty doesn't mean absolutely nothing, doesn't it mate?
- 30:30Because he will sink Liverpool happily.
- 30:33I hope he does.
- 30:35Shows you done it though.
- 30:36Shows you done it.
- 30:37Same with the other fella, Benitez and all them likes.
- 30:41You know when these cop-outs go on, oh he loves the club, he loves it.
- 30:44No he doesn't.
- 30:45No he doesn't.
- 30:46Don't say loy... No he doesn't.
- 30:48He doesn't care.
- 30:49He's laughing at you.
- 30:50And he's going to laugh at you when he finishes above you if he does.
- 30:52He heaches.
- 30:54So don't give me a lie, he loves the club, he was the captain or he was the manager.
- 30:58He don't care.
- 30:59The mercenaries, to understand that, he's a mercenary.
- 31:04He does not care about that football club.
- 31:06Same as Benitez didn't care about Liverpool going on.
- 31:08He's done this and he loves the club.
- 31:10No, he doesn't.
- 31:11No, he doesn't.
- 31:11He managed your rivals.
- 31:13Managed your worst, your bitter rivals.
- 31:15And then he manages other clubs like Chelsea.
- 31:17And now the other fella's gone to play for Chelsea.
- 31:20Chelsea are rivals at Liverpool.
- 31:21What's he doing there?
- 31:23Would Jürgen Klopp go and manage Chelsea?
- 31:25I believe that's someone who loves Liverpool Football Club.
- 31:29I believe he's someone that's someone who's got a bit about them and goes, you know what, no, I'm not doing that because my affection I've got for Liverpool and my relationship I've got with Liverpool fans, he wouldn't manage Chelsea.
- 31:40But Jordan Henderson, a bit different, isn't it?
- 31:44Yeah.
- 31:45You feel better now?
- 31:47Yeah.
- 31:49Yeah, get it off your chest.
- 31:51I think the wire silence.
- 31:54The other thing, yeah, I think it's a sign, but moving on to the other fella that loves Liverpool, Xavi Alonso.
- 31:59Oh yeah, he's just knocked him back three, four times.
- 32:01You know what he does?
- 32:02There, don't panic this time, maybe you can come back again.
- 32:04Yeah, go Madrid.
- 32:05And you know what, you know what I'll do this time?
- 32:07I think I'll go Chelsea over going to you because you do need a manager, but I think I'll just choose Chelsea over you because I like London better.
- 32:13That's what he's basically saying.
- 32:14I prefer London.
- 32:17And it's the craziest part.
- 32:19He'd have had a lot more control at Liverpool than he will have at Chelsea.
- 32:22Because if he thinks for one minute he's going to go in there and be the manager of Chelsea Football Club, you must be absolutely nuts.
- 32:29Because that club is being run like a fancy football team.
- 32:34You've got player after player coming in and just... Whoever built that squad, that's a squad of about four or five managers and about three directors of football.
- 32:46You've got a proper problem knitting that squad together.
- 32:50You've got a proper headache on your arm, on your shoulders.
- 32:53And if you lose two or three of them boys in that dressing room, you see her, you're just another casualty.
- 33:01You're going because let me tell you, mate, they can't get rid of the 28 players, but they can get rid of the manager.
- 33:06So you better make sure you're getting on with all them boys.
- 33:09That's true.
- 33:09But with Alonso as well.
- 33:11So you have to start looking to younger managers.
- 33:15You can't keep going back to your Ancelotti's and your Mourinho's because they're respected.
- 33:22You have to find these up-and-young coming managers, like Vincent Kompany going to Bayern Munich.
- 33:28Yes, Alonso failed at Real Madrid, and maybe he wasn't big enough for their characters, but he should be big enough for the Chelsea characters.
- 33:35He should, you know, when they're looking at the manager who's, again, been there, done that, won all sorts at Madrid, they'll be looking up to him, respecting him a lot more than they may respect someone who's...
- 33:47never played at the highest level.
- 33:49That's what young players are like.
- 33:52As you say, with their egos, they're not ready to listen to people that they don't respect.
- 33:56Surely they're listening to Jordan Henderson.
- 33:58Surely, even more, they're listening to Jabby Alonso.
- 34:01And then...
- 34:02It's all about whether he can actually produce results and get them to do what they want.
- 34:07But he should have the dressing room in the palm of his hands, which previous Chelsea managers haven't managed.
- 34:13So I've got them anyway, swinging us all back after Tony's rant.
- 34:16I've got them third with the potential to even be second.
- 34:21Yeah, I think times are changing there.
- 34:22I think signing Henderson and Welbeck shows that they're not usual Chelsea signings.
- 34:27So I think they're good decisions by Xabi Alonso.
- 34:30Anyway, Coventry City, first season in the Prem in 25 years.
- 34:35Frank Lampard back in there.
- 34:37Is it too much for them?
- 34:38Where are we putting them?
- 34:40feel for this but yeah it's too much too much of a jump the golf's too big I don't want to put an actual number on it but I don't think they're going to see the yeah sorry Go on what position?
- 34:55Frank's done a great job but yeah I just don't see it being enough Where are you putting them?
- 35:07Do you know what I'm just going to be kind and say 18th
- 35:11Oh yeah, I've got them 18th.
- 35:13All my prep's been great, hasn't it?
- 35:17To outdo you on the same numbers.
- 35:19I think they're the best of the three that are coming up.
- 35:23When I look at the players that they've signed, you think about making that jump and you think about...
- 35:31who Sunderland signed I thought Sunderland would be good last year you look they made 9 or 10 signers they brought in either proven top flight players or players that you knew were going to get there to make their squad nearly completely different from what they had last year whereas Coventry have signed Amenda from Frankfurt and then Chowna from Burnley on Yekker
- 35:50they made his loan permanent and he was from Brentford anyway and Rushworth you know you look at players I'm thinking that's that's not that's not enough to make the jump at best you're buying players that are bottom of the Premier League were probably going to get relegated or did in in Chowna and I don't know if that's enough to make that step maybe they're looking at
- 36:13a three or four year project in terms of let's buy the best that we're around.
- 36:18We might come down.
- 36:19Ipswich may well be on that, that train and Burnley did it a few times.
- 36:22Norwich went through a few seasons of doing it where they let's make this progression slowly.
- 36:28We're not, we're not trying to bankrupt ourselves from the position they are, but looking at what they've got available at the minute, I've got them 18th.
- 36:35Moving on to Crystal Palace, new manager, who was quite successful at Lenz in League One.
- 36:42Where are you putting Palace?
- 36:46I think Palace... Have I said 13?
- 36:56No.
- 36:57I'll have 13 for Palace.
- 37:00Us?
- 37:01I've got Palace 17th.
- 37:05Ooh.
- 37:06I think they'll struggle.
- 37:07Like, Glasner-Gowen's massive.
- 37:09Glasner-Gowen, European football again.
- 37:13And I know this Saga fella, Pierre Saga, I think he finished second, didn't he, in the French League and he won a cup.
- 37:21So he's coming with a bit of substance to him.
- 37:25But again, the Premier League is different.
- 37:29They have European football.
- 37:31as well.
- 37:32And this year with their European football, they won the cup, but they really sort of struggled, certainly the back end of the, of, of the running and limped over the line to quite safety, but you know, they were, they weren't far away from it.
- 37:51I just think that if,
- 37:55I've just seen a pop-up on my phone there.
- 38:00If the three teams were coming up weren't as bad as they were, I think I'd be worried for Palace, but then they'll just stay up because of it.
- 38:09interesting that FA Cup winners Conference League winners and then right down the bottom I know but once that manager goes mate that's a big factor big factor and then the Tess is wanting out as well isn't he yeah could be completely wrong and as I said all of this is subject to who leaves or who comes in before the transfer window is done all of it my table is going to be bang on that's the finish I think it will be the stars will learn because Tony said it yeah it's brilliant
- 38:38Right, the big one, Everton.
- 38:39The mighty lose.
- 38:40I think Everton, I can't make mind if it's 8th or 9th.
- 38:43I'm going to go 8th.
- 38:48I've got us as 8th.
- 38:50Good prep.
- 38:53I've got us as 8th, right?
- 38:56And I don't know if, as Tony just said, I don't know if I'm being optimistic.
- 39:01I don't know if that's my heart talking or my head.
- 39:03Yeah.
- 39:04I don't know if I'm saying that's good progression from couple of 13th to 8th.
- 39:09I think it would be.
- 39:09Because I do think we made some good signings.
- 39:13I do think we've strengthened.
- 39:17But again, that would be solidified in my mind if we were to get,
- 39:20a good right back that we know we can sort of hang our hat on and trust.
- 39:26And then depending whether we got another striker in, we were talking about Richarlison, weren't we, last week.
- 39:34Yeah, if we got those two pieces in, then we might even got even higher.
- 39:38But for the minute, I'm going to say eight.
- 39:43Fair.
- 39:44Fulham, Arbelauer in charge now.
- 39:48Where are they coming?
- 39:50Oh, he's going to get a shock.
- 39:53He might have played in the Premier League, but it might be a different ball game for him, he'll find.
- 39:58Oh, this is a tough one because, okay, so I've got us eight.
- 40:04Lost some attacking players as well going into this season.
- 40:06Harry Wilson was a big player for them.
- 40:10I'm going to put Fulham 14th.
- 40:14Well, you can't because you've got Bournemouth there, but you've got 15th available.
- 40:17I don't think they'll be that low.
- 40:21Well, if you're going in between that, you've got 10 or 15 left because you've placed the left.
- 40:2711, 12, 13, 14 already.
- 40:29I kind of know who's going to finish close to Everton.
- 40:3210th.
- 40:3610th?
- 40:39Yeah.
- 40:40Oaky-doke.
- 40:41Big season for our belower.
- 40:43Oz?
- 40:45I'm going 12th.
- 40:47I was thinking 10, 11, 12.
- 40:50I've settled on 12th.
- 40:52Wilson going is big, I think.
- 40:57Raul Jimenez leaving, he's been good.
- 41:00He has brought in a couple of people from Real Madrid who he knows.
- 41:04He's brought in a guy, Asari, from Bayern Munich.
- 41:08So he's actually, because of his Real Madrid connections, he's able to bring in...
- 41:12players from top clubs.
- 41:14I just don't know if...
- 41:16I mean, as well, the fact he's been and played in the Premier League before makes me think, will he be able to do...
- 41:23But I've settled on 12th, his first year managing in the Premier League.
- 41:29Yeah.
- 41:30Not much more.
- 41:30Sorry, I'm on 15th.
- 41:32You're taking them, putting them 15th?
- 41:34Yeah.
- 41:35A swap?
- 41:36I'm looking, yeah.
- 41:36I'm putting them 15th.
- 41:37Okay, though.
- 41:39Hull City.
- 41:44See you later.
- 41:45Bye-bye.
- 41:47Are you putting them rock bottom?
- 41:48Yeah.
- 41:49Actually, no, I'll go.
- 41:52I'll go with 19.
- 41:53Okay.
- 41:54Aussie?
- 41:57rock bottom 20th.
- 42:00I don't want to be disrespectful to them, but again, I think I didn't have jumps too high.
- 42:06I think, I mean, good luck to them.
- 42:08Hope they enjoy the season.
- 42:10That's the kind of feeling about them that it's such a huge leap that they're in.
- 42:14for your Coventry's and your Ipswich's to stay in, who have been pretty flying the last couple of years.
- 42:19So for them to make that leap, I think it's too much.
- 42:21How are they supposed to make up that gap?
- 42:23Do you know what I mean?
- 42:24They're coming off from the Championship.
- 42:25How can they do it?
- 42:26Because 100 million, I know they get to spend, but it's just not enough, is it?
- 42:31No.
- 42:31You've either got... Well, it's one of them things like... For...
- 42:35Forrest did it a few years back and just accepted the points sort of thing.
- 42:40Forrest knew they were breaking the rules and did it anyway because we'll break the rules.
- 42:46You'll give us a points thing, but we'll be in the Premier League and we'll ride it.
- 42:48And we don't care.
- 42:49We've, should we say, bent the rules, stretched them, known what was going to come on the other end, fell foul of them.
- 42:57Sunderland spent a fortune to stay in the Premier League last year.
- 43:02You think of the ones that haven't?
- 43:04They just seem to go back down.
- 43:06You have to seem to invest money to stay in, otherwise you're gone.
- 43:12So yeah, I don't see Hull being able to do that.
- 43:16Another one could be down there, Ipswich.
- 43:19Rock bottom for me.
- 43:21Sorry Ipswich fans, but... Ed Sheeran won't be happy with you, Tony.
- 43:2619th for me.
- 43:28Gary O'Neill's in charge, isn't he?
- 43:31To make up for these teams, mate, and it's so hard, it's so difficult.
- 43:35They literally need to throw everything at it like Sunderland done last season.
- 43:39That's the strategy that works.
- 43:41Yeah.
- 43:42I mean, Gary O'Neill, he's obviously, he's experienced it with Wolves.
- 43:45He got them, he kept them up the year.
- 43:47He kept Bournemouth up the year.
- 43:49He's done okay and he's stepped into this role after Kieran McKenna's
- 43:54surprise probably, resignation after getting them promoted again but yeah I think his first season and with the league as it is, unless in my opinion one of the teams have a huge slip, one of the regular teams, then those three are going down, I've got Ipswich 19th.
- 44:13Leeds United.
- 44:1618th for me, just survive.
- 44:20That's 17th then.
- 44:23Again.
- 44:24That's 17th survivor.
- 44:2518th is down.
- 44:2717th, sorry.
- 44:28Stick your fingers up in front of you and I'll stick mine up.
- 44:30Punches have had an effect.
- 44:33You haven't been punched in there a million times.
- 44:35You might have headed the ball half a million times, but you haven't fucking been punched in the head a million times.
- 44:39He didn't head the ball much either.
- 44:41No, he didn't.
- 44:41It was good when he did edit it.
- 44:42When he chose to edit it, he wasn't.
- 44:43You can see where I added the ball because I've gone bald.
- 44:46Flick-ons and right and left, do you?
- 44:49That's where I added it.
- 44:50That's your old fella's fault.
- 44:51That's nothing to do with footballs, mate.
- 44:52That's Deggsy's fault.
- 44:56I've got Leeds 17th.
- 44:58Yeah, Ozzy?
- 44:5914th.
- 45:01Ooh.
- 45:02That's a good season for them.
- 45:03Yeah, I think...
- 45:06Yeah, I think Wilson will be a good signing.
- 45:08I think Albert Lewin's found his feet.
- 45:11I think other teams, as I mentioned, have got some European football that they'll be dealing with and whether they can or not.
- 45:18I think with the teams below, I think Leeds will be okay.
- 45:2114th.
- 45:22The dark side, Liverpool.
- 45:26I'm not sure about this fella.
- 45:27And when you read the report, coming out, my players can't run for more than 30 minutes.
- 45:31I just thought, you're having a life, mate.
- 45:32You're taking the piss.
- 45:34Like, you can't be serious.
- 45:3630 minutes, really?
- 45:37I mean, these are professional athletes.
- 45:39They can't run for 30 minutes.
- 45:41I couldn't believe it.
- 45:42The lads put it in the group, in our group, the establishments, and I just couldn't believe it.
- 45:46I just thought, wow, they can't run for more than 30 minutes.
- 45:49And one of the boys was very knowledgeable.
- 45:51Bad statement, that, isn't it?
- 45:53Yeah, it's bad, isn't it?
- 45:54I mean, it's just, who's getting the blame for that, us?
- 45:57It's your job to get them to, it's pre-season, it's your job to get them to run, to get them up there to make sure that they're mentally, physically, whatever it is, you have to do it.
- 46:06Is he blaming the previous, is he blaming Slott?
- 46:11Is that a shock to Slott?
- 46:12Yeah, potentially, because Klopp had them running.
- 46:15Slott downed the demands of them.
- 46:19They were outrun by 37 of 38 or something like that.
- 46:22They were outrun by a lot of teams in a lot of games.
- 46:26which if you listen to them will say well that doesn't matter that means you had the ball more or some people have got different opinions on outrunning the opponent and not run the opponent but you've got to be capable of doing it on any given day because some days you might need to outrun the opponent but it doesn't sound like they're capable they had a season where they didn't run as much maybe they didn't look after themselves in the summer I don't know some of these players but yeah the noises aren't great are they?
- 46:52I think they're going to finish fourth yeah
- 46:55You've got Chelsea there.
- 46:55All right, you're still saying fourth.
- 46:57Fifth, then.
- 46:59Have you not got 17th left?
- 47:02I thought I said Chelsea fifth.
- 47:03You can put them fifth if you want.
- 47:05I'll swap them round.
- 47:06I thought I said Chelsea fifth.
- 47:08I've got them in as... You've got them as fourth.
- 47:11We can go back on VAR when the podcast episode's out.
- 47:14But yeah, no, you can swap them round if you want.
- 47:17No.
- 47:17You know what, then?
- 47:20They're going to have to go fifth.
- 47:22Sixth.
- 47:23I've got them.
- 47:27and didn't even want to put them that eye.
- 47:31In Slott's first season, I said they'd finish seventh.
- 47:37And I meant it because I thought they'd have the dip, but the dip came last season, didn't it?
- 47:42Yeah.
- 47:42So I don't think they're going to...
- 47:46I think you're still riding the caretales of Klopp also.
- 47:48Yeah, so I think Areola's a good manager and I think he'll get them to where he needs to be.
- 47:54And it might actually be this season, they might bounce back, but they've lost Salah, Robinson's voice has gone, already lost Trent, they've canated, they're building a whole new back four, really.
- 48:10And I'm just looking at them and I know you've got two, it's Eketike and Isak Eketike still out, but you've got some quality players splashed around a bit, but...
- 48:18Don't quite know how all that settles in yet, so I'm thinking sixth.
- 48:23Yeah, bit of a transition, yeah.
- 48:25Man City.
- 48:25I'm going to go second.
- 48:27Man City second.
- 48:29Yeah, second.
- 48:32Oz?
- 48:33I've got City second, but this is completely subject to Rodri staying at the club.
- 48:39If Rodri leaves...
- 48:43Fourth or fifth.
- 48:45Really?
- 48:46Two places, us?
- 48:47They've lost Pep.
- 48:48They've lost Bernardo Silva and Stones is left and influencing the squad.
- 48:54Brought in Anderson, yeah.
- 48:57good player but if new manager new ideas new maybe different voice different demands you've still got a monster off the off the front of course but I just think Rodri's that key with regards to getting at them that if he goes on top of the manager going on top of Bernardo Silva going
- 49:14I think they might have a big dip.
- 49:16But while Rodri's there, I'm saying second.
- 49:18I think they're going to push Arsenal really close.
- 49:20I think it's proper 50-50 with them too, with Arsenal and City.
- 49:23I just think they've got so much quality out on the wings.
- 49:26The likes of that Cherky, the likes of that Docky, the game-changing players.
- 49:29They're so explosive, they're so fast.
- 49:31And then you've got that monster up front.
- 49:33I mean, the Viking is just a killer.
- 49:36He's a kilometre.
- 49:37I don't doubt that.
- 49:37And I do think that they'll...
- 49:40If Rodri's there, I think they challenge for the title and just about fall short.
- 49:43But if he's not there, I think you'd look at what they were like without him under Pep for a season and they dipped.
- 49:50Do you know why I think we'll see someone go into the middle of the park for them this season?
- 49:54The Lefbach?
- 49:57Maybe, I don't know.
- 49:58He's going to go into the middle, mate, and he's going to have an effect this year.
- 50:02I think this is going to be his breakout year in the midfield area.
- 50:06I just think that kid is so talented and he's got so much ability.
- 50:12Yeah, it'd be interesting.
- 50:13I feel like with Guardiola going, that might be a big success for Man City.
- 50:20When Sir Alex Ferguson went, some of these dominants are there.
- 50:25I'm expecting something like that.
- 50:26So I could see them dropping it maybe a little bit lower than second.
- 50:29Yeah, but you then balance that to what I thought on Jurgen Klopp going and Slott coming in and
- 50:36Actually, the very next season, I thought they'd have their dip straight away, but it actually took a year, didn't it, before they did have their dip.
- 50:42So you never know.
- 50:44That's why I think I've still got them second.
- 50:47Just wait there a sec.
- 50:49Just wait there for a sec.
- 50:50I need a toilet.
- 50:53Oh, in the age of you and you can't control your bladder.
- 50:56Toilet break, sponsored by Parade.
- 50:59Oh, my God.
- 51:01We are now going to the hydration break, sponsored by Leon's Toilet.
- 51:10Do some quick research, Tony.
- 51:12Get ahead of him here.
- 51:14I'm just worried.
- 51:15Do you know what?
- 51:16I'm thinking, is it United for third?
- 51:20Do you know what?
- 51:22Tottenham are going to get in there.
- 51:24You've got third left.
- 51:25Your two highest ones left are third and seventh.
- 51:30And I think...
- 51:34I think Newcastle are going to have a bad season.
- 51:37Yeah, I'd agree with that.
- 51:38And I think Oliver Glasland is going to do great to Forrest.
- 51:42Yeah, I could also see that as well.
- 51:43I could see Forrest bouncing back a bit this year.
- 51:46I reckon Forrest will do really well.
- 51:48Tottenham have got to finish in the big books.
- 51:50Newcastle are going to have a nightmare.
- 51:52Newcastle are going to have a nightmare.
- 51:55They're going to struggle.
- 51:57I just can't decide where they're going to finish.
- 51:58I think Newcastle will finish below us.
- 52:0010th could be Forrest, 10th could be Newcastle.
- 52:04Sunderland done well last season.
- 52:06I can't see that.
- 52:07It's a one-off.
- 52:10Yeah, and they've got European footy this year.
- 52:12Yeah, that would have had them.
- 52:15It is.
- 52:15Nice listening to you, isn't there?
- 52:16I was listening to everything that you said.
- 52:18We said there was a hydration break sponsored by Aussie's Toilet.
- 52:22Ferb's still got me headphones in.
- 52:23Oh, okay.
- 52:24He wasn't stupid.
- 52:25I was on them a mile off, mate.
- 52:27Don't worry.
- 52:30Right, so we're on United.
- 52:32Yeah, I'm going to go United third.
- 52:37I think he had done a fantastic job last season.
- 52:40I think now that he gets a bit of power to his elbow and they're not going to mess around with him, that squad, I think he brings in Marcus Rashford and Marcus Rashford sets it up and lights Man United really puts them up there.
- 52:53I think Marcus Rashford does play some parts in the season.
- 52:56I hope so for Rashford's case.
- 52:58I hope so as well.
- 52:59I'd love to see him have a good season.
- 53:01I think he plays.
- 53:02But he just constantly frustrates, if anything, for me.
- 53:08And I just think he probably needs to be out of the environment.
- 53:11If you're a player with him and you're one of the older lads, what are you saying to him?
- 53:15Are you pulling him?
- 53:16By now, I'm probably giving up because you've probably been saying these things to him for five years.
- 53:21Yes.
- 53:22Do you know what I mean?
- 53:23And if he's not catching on Vane after this time.
- 53:26He's shown he's still got it.
- 53:27Gone to Barcelona, it was shown moments of brilliance at times.
- 53:30He's shown he's got it.
- 53:32First of all, I'm asking the manager what he wants from him.
- 53:35in terms of, you know, if I'm telling Marcus, he needs to be running, run behind, which he first thought, blah, blah, but the manager's actually wanting him to feed, then I'm not helping.
- 53:45Doesn't matter if I'm senior, but you can, you can talk about attitude, you can talk about getting in the gym, you can talk about all this kind of stuff, but you need to make sure he's doing what the manager does, but doing it sharper and better and,
- 53:58He's getting the best out of himself.
- 53:59You've seen how good he can be.
- 54:02You've seen what he can offer you.
- 54:03You can see if he's prepared to go left and right and go on the outside and come inside and all that.
- 54:08He's got goals in him.
- 54:10So he's showed he's a quality player.
- 54:13And he's good off the pitch in terms of what he does for the community, isn't he, and all this kind of stuff.
- 54:17So we're not sitting here saying he's a bad guy.
- 54:20He seems like a brilliant guy.
- 54:21But you're just looking at him as one of these players.
- 54:23You look at some players and you think, wow,
- 54:25he got everything out of himself because his level of quality and skill was certain.
- 54:32Got everything he could out of himself.
- 54:33And then you look at other players and you think, wow, there's just so much.
- 54:37You feel like there's so much more there.
- 54:39He's one of them.
- 54:39So I understand you're going back to saying that, Tony, that he's going to potentially stand up and deliver and things.
- 54:45He's got the...
- 54:46He's got the ability to.
- 54:49And I don't know whether he will, but I still think Man United are going to have a good season.
- 54:56I think they're going to finish.
- 54:57I've got them down for fourth with the potential to be even higher.
- 55:00You have Tielemans and Santos from Chelsea, who's a good sign-in as well, to replace Casemiro.
- 55:10Yeah, I think they'll have a good season.
- 55:13Oh no, they have got European football, haven't they?
- 55:15But they've got a trust in...
- 55:16Champions League, of course.
- 55:17They've got a trust in Carrick, I remember saying.
- 55:20Carrick's ability now to manage the team in European football and manage a couple of games a week and being able to sit around.
- 55:29Pundits were saying it was easy for him last year because he didn't have Europe.
- 55:33So he's got that to deal with, but I still think...
- 55:36I still think what I saw from them, what he gets out of his players, the attitude when they're on the pitch, the fact that they could go last season to the likes of Arsenal and they're not a soft touch anymore.
- 55:47They can go and get results.
- 55:48I think they'll finish fourth.
- 55:51Newcastle United, a year of change there, where are we putting them?
- 55:56I think they're going to struggle.
- 55:59I think they're going to struggle.
- 56:00How bad?
- 56:03interesting didn't for the shock meet a how bad I mean what's the numbers Liam I've got left yeah you only got really one bad position left which is 16th no I don't think they're gonna finish that long well it's only got 9 9 4 16th
- 56:25See, it all seemed easy, didn't it?
- 56:27Just picking numbers before without looking and without knowing where you were going.
- 56:30It all seemed dead easy.
- 56:31Now look at God.
- 56:32It's going back to bite you in the arse, Tony.
- 56:34So what's above me left?
- 56:36You've got 7th.
- 56:38Yeah, that's for them.
- 56:39You've got 9th, 10th and 16th.
- 56:43Do you know what?
- 56:44I'll go 10th for Newcastle.
- 56:49I'll go 10th for Newcastle.
- 56:50I think that's fair.
- 56:53consider i i i'm pushing i'm i i don't know i'm testing that there because i don't think they're going to do well realistically i think they're going to finish below that i think they're finishing about in the in the second half of the table but i'll just say 10 because i've fucked up realistically i'm thinking more twelt uh go on oz where have you put them
- 57:1913th for me.
- 57:23Just too many big changes.
- 57:24Too many big players out.
- 57:28Never mind the manager leaving, which I actually think they've said mutual decision.
- 57:36I think that's come to the point where even at the start of pre-season, you've now losing all your best players.
- 57:42You've already lost Isak last season.
- 57:45You've lost Gordon over the summer.
- 57:47You turn up for pre-season, they've took Tonali off you and now you knew Bruno Glimmeres was inevitable.
- 57:56And yet they'll expect you to get the same results and they'll expect you to perform.
- 58:00You're walking into a sack-in after three months.
- 58:02So the fact that they're losing all these players, then you lose the managers, you might say, make the right decision.
- 58:09Because actually, if you're going to treat me like this, I'm out.
- 58:12But, I mean, they have signed a lot of players, people without any real Premier League experience, so it could go either way.
- 58:20But now with a new manager, not sure what's going to happen.
- 58:24But losing Gordon, lose Trippier as well.
- 58:26Another one, you know, that you're talking about.
- 58:29A big name from within the squad.
- 58:31So, yeah, I think they're going to struggle.
- 58:35I didn't know whether to even go lower than this, but I've gone 13th.
- 58:39I would have put them lower, I think.
- 58:40Where'd you have them, Lee?
- 58:42I'd have had them around 16th, I think they're really going to struggle.
- 58:45That's bad.
- 58:46But I also hate Newcastle so that's probably bad.
- 58:51Forrest, I think he's going to do a great job, I think he's a very good manager, Alder Glasner, and I think Forrest are going to finish...
- 59:01If you're going high, you've got seven full ninths.
- 59:06No, no, no.
- 59:08I'm going to go ninth for Forrest.
- 59:11I think Forrest can do really well.
- 59:12He knows the league.
- 59:13He's got a system that works really well.
- 59:16Improves players.
- 59:18That's all Oliver Glasner does.
- 59:19Players improve under his watch.
- 59:22And I think that'll be, you know, that's good news for Forrest fans.
- 59:25Big club, Forrest.
- 59:28Ozzy?
- 59:29Tenth.
- 59:30I agree.
- 59:31I think they'll bounce back.
- 59:32I think they've got a good...
- 59:33I think they've got a decent squad.
- 59:36I think Morgan Gibbs-White is outstanding.
- 59:38They missed Chris Wood for most of last season, who's the goal scorer.
- 59:42When he came back, you saw the massive difference.
- 59:45And they had European football last season, which they're not going to have this season.
- 59:48I know they've lost Elliot Anderson, which is a huge hole in the middle.
- 59:53But...
- 59:54I then trust Oliver Glasner, as Tony was just saying, to be able to figure out a way around that.
- 59:58So I think they'll have a good season.
- 1:00:00And when I say good, I think they'll be finishing the top half.
- 1:00:03I think they'll finish 10th.
- 1:00:05Just a quick one.
- 1:00:06Do you know the likes of Elliot Anderson and them players that sit in the midfield?
- 1:00:10And they're not the adventurous and gallobant ones who go running forward and lead players behind.
- 1:00:15Are they easier to replace?
- 1:00:18I just say that because he's such a basic footballer.
- 1:00:21He's a good footballer, very good footballer, but he's not your dribbling winger or your flair kind of player.
- 1:00:27He's not the player you look to and go and get your goals, but he does a job in the midfield.
- 1:00:31Is he easy to replace?
- 1:00:35I think it's hard to...
- 1:00:37to find a direct replacement for anyone.
- 1:00:41I think you would say that it's easier to run around and get the ball back than it is to play on the half turn and be as creative.
- 1:00:49There's not many like Morgan Gibbs-Whites out there and Cole Palmers out there.
- 1:00:53They're probably hard to find, especially for the price, because if you find the right one, there's a massive premium on them.
- 1:01:00But then you talk about, are they hard to replace?
- 1:01:03Because let's say we lost Jimmy Garner, who's very similar to Elliot and Anderson.
- 1:01:07I mean, we've seen him pre-season.
- 1:01:08We've struggled without him in pre-season.
- 1:01:10That'd be huge to replace.
- 1:01:11I talked about Rodri before.
- 1:01:13Take a holding midfielder out of City.
- 1:01:15I think they might struggle a bit.
- 1:01:17Even with Elliot Anderson going in.
- 1:01:19And look at the dresser going in, how hard the dresser is to replace, because he's legs and he's everywhere.
- 1:01:23But...
- 1:01:24there is replacements there.
- 1:01:26And do you ask the same players to do a bit of a different job?
- 1:01:30Players who you can trust and go, I know you can do this job, do you do it?
- 1:01:33It's like the problem Liverpool had with the six, and they go, the grabbing bitch kid and stuff.
- 1:01:39As a player, will a manager come to you and say, I want you to play there now?
- 1:01:44Yeah, possibly.
- 1:01:45If the manager sees it...
- 1:01:48The thing with Oliver Glasner is he's not been at Forest over the last season and been thinking, if I lose Anderson, what do I do?
- 1:01:54I'll get him to play there or move him across.
- 1:01:57So he's going in there, looking at the squad he's got and wondering if any of them can now do that.
- 1:02:02So, I mean, Forest play, what, four, two, three, one?
- 1:02:05So it's just one of the two in the middle.
- 1:02:07I think they'll have enough.
- 1:02:09I don't think.
- 1:02:10I don't think they'll get to the heights that Anderson has been at over this last 18 months, but they'll have someone who can be competitive in the middle of the pitch and win the ball back, just pass it to Gibbs-White.
- 1:02:21So I think they'll figure it out.
- 1:02:23I think Forrest will be okay because of the lack of European football.
- 1:02:27New manager, Morgan Gibbs-White is going to have a great season again.
- 1:02:31And Chris Wood's fit.
- 1:02:34They had a crazy manager changes as well last year, I think stability will get them right up there.
- 1:02:40Sunderland?
- 1:02:42They're going to get a shock, European football is going to hurt them, it really is.
- 1:02:47I think they've done brilliant last season, overachieved and it'll be back to reality this season.
- 1:02:53And yet, despite that, he's only got seventh place available, so they're going to be seventh.
- 1:02:57No, he's got 16th.
- 1:02:59He's got 16th.
- 1:03:00Oh, does he?
- 1:03:01Yeah, he's got that one.
- 1:03:02He's got that one.
- 1:03:03Some of us box clever, Leon.
- 1:03:04Some of us box clever.
- 1:03:0716th, Sunderland.
- 1:03:09Sunderland, 16th.
- 1:03:09I just think Europe's going to do so much.
- 1:03:1215th for me.
- 1:03:13That's the one I've got left for them in the bottom half.
- 1:03:16For the same reasons, I think.
- 1:03:17You've stepped on your well.
- 1:03:18They're a solid club at the minute.
- 1:03:21I think they stepped up in the Premier League last season.
- 1:03:24European football this season is going to be a shock.
- 1:03:27It's going to be tough.
- 1:03:28And they'll go all the way then.
- 1:03:30They'll do really well in Europe.
- 1:03:32Interesting.
- 1:03:33Process of elimination.
- 1:03:34That means we've got one spot left.
- 1:03:37That means Spurs are coming seventh for you, Tony.
- 1:03:40I think he'll get a tune out of them this season, him.
- 1:03:45Even more so on Ozzy's side.
- 1:03:47Ozzy's got to make fifth.
- 1:03:48And I think Romero going is a benefit.
- 1:03:52Yeah.
- 1:03:53It's going to benefit him.
- 1:03:54They're getting rid of him.
- 1:03:55It's like, really, you want him?
- 1:03:58OK, you can have him.
- 1:03:59Do you see Sculls and Nicky Butler saying that they think United should go and get Romero?
- 1:04:04Oh, it's a bit...
- 1:04:06I get it because United probably lacks leaders and they probably see him as a bit of a leader.
- 1:04:12So I do get it and understand it, but is he the kind of leader you want?
- 1:04:16What I would say about that, now I wouldn't want him in my team or squad because how erratic he is, but...
- 1:04:23if you sign him, now you've got Argentina's two centre-backs playing together, which, as much as you call them both erratic and they can both be wherever they want, they're so individual and so erratic that it works for Argentina.
- 1:04:35So actually, if you put them both together, I see the potential for that.
- 1:04:39It's a horrible defence to come up against, though.
- 1:04:42But I don't see that myself.
- 1:04:43I do think Spurs are...
- 1:04:44I mean, look at the signings that they've made.
- 1:04:46Jesus.
- 1:04:48You know, look at...
- 1:04:50When do you say Andy Robertson's going to play every minute?
- 1:04:53You've now got what Spurs seem to lack, a senior voice that has, again, been there and got the T-shirt.
- 1:05:01Sanessi and Van Hekid, two new centre-backs who have played excellent at other clubs, and you've still got...
- 1:05:08Van de Ven, who's just signed a new deal.
- 1:05:11You signed Fernandes from West Ham, who's, I think that's a huge price, but he showed he was a quality player last season.
- 1:05:18And Tonali.
- 1:05:19Then you've got Kulazewski coming back.
- 1:05:21Maddison, who came back right at the end of last season.
- 1:05:25Now you're thinking, wow, we've got a squad here, you know?
- 1:05:28So, yeah, I think... Fifth, really?
- 1:05:30Fifth?
- 1:05:31I've got fifth with the potential to be even higher, honestly.
- 1:05:34Really?
- 1:05:34I agree with us.
- 1:05:36And, you know, the Zerbi were pre-season under his belt as well.
- 1:05:40Less pressure with that relegation battle.
- 1:05:42I think they could be really high.
- 1:05:45Especially if they start the season with a win at home because they've really struggled at home.
- 1:05:49If they start with a positive result at home in their first home game, I've not looked at their fixtures, whether they're at home at first week or second week.
- 1:05:58If they win that game, I think they could have a really strong season.
- 1:06:02They've got loads of energy in the team now.
- 1:06:05Oh yeah, loads.
- 1:06:06Quick recap then, and then just some quick fire questions to finish off.
- 1:06:09So you've both got Arsenal at the top of the league.
- 1:06:13Top four for Tony is Arsenal, City, United, Chelsea.
- 1:06:16Top four for Oz is Arsenal, City, Chelsea, United.
- 1:06:19So pretty similar.
- 1:06:21Relegation, Coventry, Ipswich.
- 1:06:24After all of that, our top four's the same and our relegation's the same.
- 1:06:28Exactly.
- 1:06:30Well done with your preparation.
- 1:06:32couple of switches here and there and then Tony's got Ipswich Rock Bottom with Coventry and Hull in 18th and 19th so quick fire questions who's been the best signing so far in the transfer window that you're expecting to have a good season moving forward Brian Johnson you're going to say that no I can't say that I think Guimara oof
- 1:07:02Yeah, I was going to say him, but I'll change now because you've said that.
- 1:07:06And I'll say Tonali for Spurs.
- 1:07:10Gamalas takes so much off Declan Rice and frees him up a bit more.
- 1:07:16Declan Rice is such an important player, mate.
- 1:07:19But I think Bruno is probably going to take the weight off Declan Rice's shoulders a little bit.
- 1:07:26Because Gremorash gets forward like Rice does.
- 1:07:29He's not an Odegaard, but he gets forward.
- 1:07:31Rice was playing so many minutes last year.
- 1:07:33So anyway, carry on.
- 1:07:34I don't think Odegaard plays much this season.
- 1:07:39I was going to say Tillemans for United as well might be a decent one.
- 1:07:44I think Tillemans is... Or Morgan Rodgers.
- 1:07:47Jesus, I'm picking a few here.
- 1:07:49That's a player, yeah, that's a player.
- 1:07:51A lot of money though, but Tillemans are 30 mil.
- 1:07:54Seems like an absolute bargain.
- 1:07:56he feels like a Carrick player as well I just don't see him just you watch I think he'll have a good year at United and I think so what he does right and he did it for Villa is he gets the ball through the lines to the important players quickly so he will get Bruno Fernandes the ball
- 1:08:17three or four seconds earlier than he'd been getting it last season.
- 1:08:20He'll get Cunha the ball two or three seconds earlier than he had been doing it.
- 1:08:25Honestly, getting those players the ball two or three seconds earlier, difference that'll make.
- 1:08:32Golden Boot.
- 1:08:33Harland.
- 1:08:34Harland.
- 1:08:37Unless Tony's mate from Brentford steps it up again.
- 1:08:40Don't start.
- 1:08:44Player of the Year.
- 1:08:51I don't know this one.
- 1:08:53Generally of the top two teams.
- 1:08:57Declan Rice.
- 1:08:59I'm going to say... Gemmaresch.
- 1:09:05Bruno.
- 1:09:08And it's all predicting Declan Rice because the World Cup is so harsh on them.
- 1:09:13They're going to be tired and at Christmas Piazza they're going to feel it.
- 1:09:17I think you're going to get a few injuries this year.
- 1:09:20Arsenal, all your players are internationals, they've all gone deep in the World Cup.
- 1:09:26I think you could get a few injuries this year.
- 1:09:29But they've covered, they've covered because they've bought well.
- 1:09:31So they've got two in every spot and I think that'll show.
- 1:09:37Yeah, young player.
- 1:09:44What does Young go up to these days?
- 1:09:47It's been struggling here.
- 1:09:49I'm going to say the Arsenal kid.
- 1:09:52No, do you know what?
- 1:09:53I'm going to say no.
- 1:09:53I'm going to give it to one of ours.
- 1:09:55I'm going to give them a chance.
- 1:09:58Because I think he's looked really sharp and I think he's got a massive amount of potential.
- 1:10:01I'm going to say Tyreek George.
- 1:10:03Ooh.
- 1:10:05That's interesting.
- 1:10:06Interesting.
- 1:10:08Just a baby and I think he's got so much ability and potential.
- 1:10:12Not as scared to take a man on.
- 1:10:13Here comes Oswebd as fucking... My AI.
- 1:10:19I'm looking for the young Chelsea lad.
- 1:10:23I'm wondering if he's going to step up this year.
- 1:10:26Esteban, Esteban, yeah.
- 1:10:29Esteban, top player in me, top, top player in.
- 1:10:32If he's not alone or anything, is he?
- 1:10:35I'm going to go for him.
- 1:10:36He will do it.
- 1:10:38Or Mudric, who's suddenly come back and is like a brand new sign up for Chelsea.
- 1:10:41Where's he gone?
- 1:10:42Where's Mudric gone?
- 1:10:43He's been banned from playing for... No, but he's gone to a club, hasn't he?
- 1:10:47Because I'm told Chelsea don't want him.
- 1:10:48I thought he's gone alone somewhere.
- 1:10:49Oh, has he?
- 1:10:50He might end up doing it, but...
- 1:10:53He's no longer banned.
- 1:10:54Yeah, not yet.
- 1:10:54He's back playing, isn't he?
- 1:10:56It's a mad one, that, isn't it?
- 1:10:59Yeah, it is, yeah.
- 1:11:00It'll be interesting to see if he can still kick a ball.
- 1:11:03Biggest surprise of the year?
- 1:11:07A player, a team... Erm...
- 1:11:14I'm going to say Spurs will win a cup.
- 1:11:17Or I might even say Everton will win a cup.
- 1:11:19No, that will be a surprise.
- 1:11:20Beat me to it.
- 1:11:23I'm going to go all out of you.
- 1:11:25I'm going to say Everton will win the League Cup this year.
- 1:11:31That is going to make history.
- 1:11:32We'd love that.
- 1:11:35The biggest disappointment of the season.
- 1:11:41So, potentially Newcastle.
- 1:11:46Yeah.
- 1:11:47Do you know what I think a lot of disappointment could be?
- 1:11:50If Tottenham don't get where they need to get to.
- 1:11:54Because they've done absolutely everything to back this manager.
- 1:11:57He's kept them in the league.
- 1:11:59I think Tottenham fans are so...
- 1:12:03They would feel it this year.
- 1:12:05If Tottenham don't have a good season, I think they will feel it the most.
- 1:12:08Because they've got the biggest expectations.
- 1:12:11Consider them from where they finished to where they're going now.
- 1:12:14They have the biggest expectations on them, them players.
- 1:12:18And I just think if they fail, oh, wow, that is like, that is a really big, anything below 10th and they are in trouble.
- 1:12:27like because they've backed them they've backed them and they've done what they've never done before they've broke the wage bracket they've spent a fortune so they're really going for it you know daniel levy's not there no more with his demands and whatever have you and i just think yeah i think that they will be they will be the big they'll be the real sufferers if they don't they don't do it
- 1:12:51Liverpool for me, I think they'll be disappointing.
- 1:12:54I think that... Look, as an Evertonian, obviously, we don't want them to do well, necessarily.
- 1:13:01I'm not wishing that on friends of mine who are Liverpool fans, but I just look at them and I'm... As I say, things might change.
- 1:13:08Yeah, of course he will.
- 1:13:09And he's right to.
- 1:13:09He's coming out...
- 1:13:10He's got to build them back up.
- 1:13:12I know, Oz, but come on, they're world-class players.
- 1:13:14They're worth hundreds of millions of pounds.
- 1:13:16They're worth hundreds of millions of pounds.
- 1:13:19They spent half a billion, wasn't they?
- 1:13:20But they won the league and spent half a billion.
- 1:13:23I'll tell you, here's a scenario for you.
- 1:13:26Arsenal at Liverpool, but in a better position at the start of last season than Arsenal were now.
- 1:13:34I know everyone agreed to that.
- 1:13:35When Liverpool won the league and then went to the way to the centre...
- 1:13:37Similar.
- 1:13:38No, no, we all come out and said they've bought the league.
- 1:13:41They've got Isak, they've got this face, they've got this one, they've got that.
- 1:13:44He won the league last season, had a canter, he's going to absolutely blast everyone now.
- 1:13:48Because you've just said you think Arsenal are going to win it comfortably.
- 1:13:50Well, you obviously predicted last season Liverpool were going to win it comfortably.
- 1:13:53I did, I think I did, yeah.
- 1:13:55As you just mentioned, with them winning the league the way they did and then buying two new full-backs, buying two centre-forwards, buying...
- 1:14:02Yeah, all that kind of thing.
- 1:14:03Bayern Verts as well.
- 1:14:05Arsenal have bought less, and then you're saying they're going to cruise it even more.
- 1:14:11Because I think this year, I wonder whether the teams below them have made the leap up to challenge them, rather than anything.
- 1:14:19And lots of changes with those teams as well.
- 1:14:21I think Liverpool will be disappointing this year.
- 1:14:23Call it transition year, call it what?
- 1:14:25Where do Liverpool have to finish for them to get sacked?
- 1:14:29I don't think it might.
- 1:14:30I think they could, as long as they're not 16th, 17th, I think he'll be all right this first season.
- 1:14:36You really think if he finishes 12th, he's staying in his job?
- 1:14:40If they're showing progression.
- 1:14:44There is ways of finishing 12th.
- 1:14:45Top half of the table, he's smoke, he's gone.
- 1:14:49They might win their last seven games, in which case you're going, right, he's got it.
- 1:14:53He's found it now.
- 1:14:56It's a transition year for them.
- 1:14:58Salary are over.
- 1:14:59You never know.
- 1:15:00Liverpool have done this before.
- 1:15:01I've seen poor Liverpool teams go and win stuff.
- 1:15:04So you call it transition, Lee.
- 1:15:07I mean, they've spent a fortune transition.
- 1:15:10He's gone squeaky again.
- 1:15:11Transition was last year.
- 1:15:13Yeah, but no, Liverpool have, but Areola hasn't yet, has he, in terms of bringing players that he wants in that team in?
- 1:15:20That's why he's the coach, mate.
- 1:15:22And he needs people who run, press, and I don't think he's got that yet.
- 1:15:26So I think he has got the get-out-of-jail-free card of saying, like, this isn't... Oh, he's expressed it by saying that he can only run for 30 minutes.
- 1:15:33He's thrown them under the bus.
- 1:15:36He's launched them players under the bus that he can only run for 30 minutes.
- 1:15:39Imagine...
- 1:15:41Jose Mourinho coming out and saying that about the dread.
- 1:15:44I've got it, he can only run for half an hour.
- 1:15:48Imagine that.
- 1:15:49He'd be out of a job.
- 1:15:52It's something he would do because he'd be saying, this last fella is rubbish.
- 1:15:56So everything that's hard to start with, it's on him.
- 1:15:59It's his fault, not mine.
- 1:16:00I'm going to try and get him to start running.
- 1:16:02That's what he'd do.
- 1:16:03So maybe that's what the Reola's doing.
- 1:16:05He's basically saying, look, everything that's going to happen to start the season, that's on the previous guy.
- 1:16:10That's how bad they are.
- 1:16:11And then I'll start getting us better from October.
- 1:16:13Maybe he's saying that.
- 1:16:15Or to kick up the arse for the players and he's being tactical about it, being like, well, I'm going to tell them you're not running and then prove me wrong.
- 1:16:22Hopefully not.
- 1:16:24Yeah, I agree with you though, Oz.
- 1:16:25I think Liverpool will have a disappointing season.
- 1:16:27And as a little bit of a stranger on that, I think Villa are going to have an interesting one.
- 1:16:32I just don't think they've replaced the quality that they've got rid of so far.
- 1:16:36I don't think he did a lot at all if he didn't see it.
- 1:16:40I just don't think that Unai Emery...
- 1:16:42I think he's got so much power at that club, and I just believe that he's let go what he's had to say.
- 1:16:50They've said to him... Is a good player that they've tried to bring in?
- 1:16:54I was not saying he's Morgan Rodgers.
- 1:16:56If a manager's got power like Unai Emery has at Villa, he goes, you're not selling him, and I'm keeping him.
- 1:17:03Has he got that kind of power?
- 1:17:04I think he has.
- 1:17:05He's brought success back to Villa.
- 1:17:07Probably, but...
- 1:17:10what's good for the club is important.
- 1:17:12If a player wants to go, you've got to let him go, haven't you?
- 1:17:14Morgan Lodges wants to go.
- 1:17:17You can't blame him for that.
- 1:17:18He's earned the move.
- 1:17:21Yeah, last one.
- 1:17:23Outside the box wildcard.
- 1:17:24So one prediction that you've got this year that you don't think anybody else will have.
- 1:17:30Could be anything.
- 1:17:32One thing that you think... Tony is going to get a skinhead.
- 1:17:35Tottenham's going to win the league.
- 1:17:39Yeah, but do you actually think it's going to happen?
- 1:17:41Yeah, but do you think that's going to happen?
- 1:17:43No, you've got to think it's going to happen.
- 1:17:45You're saying this is going to happen and nobody else thinks it's going to happen.
- 1:17:49Just you.
- 1:17:55I mean, I've got them in 13th, but Newcastle to get relegated.
- 1:18:02United to win the title.
- 1:18:04I don't think that's a bad of a shot.
- 1:18:06I don't think they are going to win the title.
- 1:18:09You can see it.
- 1:18:11They get a good start, mate.
- 1:18:12I think it's all about the start of the season.
- 1:18:14Someone can get five, six games under the belt with one loss in six games and five wins.
- 1:18:21You're going to be flying.
- 1:18:23And Ozzy, you think Newcastle to get relegated?
- 1:18:26Potential to be relegated, yeah.
- 1:18:28Right, I've had enough reviews anyway.
- 1:18:30Sayonara, boys.
- 1:18:31Okay.
