- 0:00hey guys back for chapter two of trump's the
- 0:04art of the deal book trump cards the elements
- 0:08of the deals this is an introduction to the chapter
- 0:10trump starts my style of deal making is quite
- 0:14simple and straightforward i aim hot very high
- 0:18and then i just keep pushing and pushing and
- 0:20pushing to get what i'm after sometimes i settle
- 0:24for less than i sought but in most cases i still
- 0:27end up with what i want right so he's going to
- 0:30explain his uh his way of doing things essentially
- 0:36he says the bar very high and that creates an
- 0:42anchor for negotiations uh he's then going to
- 0:47explain what he thinks as the title of the chapter
- 0:51suggests elements what are the key elements uh
- 0:56to be a good deal maker he's going to say it
- 1:01does take certain intelligence but mostly it's
- 1:05about instincts so he doesn't give too much credit
- 1:08to people who are just book smarts right so he
- 1:11says that having straight a's or like a 170 iq
- 1:14rorton doesn't make a difference if it doesn't
- 1:20come with the instinct so he weighs instincts
- 1:22again more than But you need dimensional intelligence.
- 1:27Instinct is really about how to synthesize all
- 1:31the elements together. And then he adds another
- 1:36layer to it. He's like, even if you have instincts
- 1:39and intelligence, you still need courage and
- 1:45good fortune. You can see. moreover most people
- 1:49who do have the instincts will never recognize
- 1:51that they do because they don't have the courage
- 1:53or the good fortune to discover their potential
- 1:56right so it does take a certain amount of of
- 2:01courage to to try and to put yourself uh other
- 2:08to be a beginner at some point in in any field
- 2:12and to to prove your worth and to and to do the
- 2:19journey if you will so people who have talent
- 2:24basically is going to explain maybe there are
- 2:26many great singers or great tennis players or
- 2:31golfers that just never picked up a racket or
- 2:35a golf club or a microphone you know we don't
- 2:40know who the thousands of great authors who never
- 2:45wrote a book. It's just like potential that hasn't
- 2:50come to fruition. It's not just about having
- 2:54the intelligence and the instincts. You also
- 2:57have to have the courage to put yourself out
- 3:02there and to try and to persevere and to really
- 3:06engage with bringing your talents. to the world
- 3:12so this takes an amount of courage it also takes
- 3:16a good fortune sometimes you could have the talent
- 3:19but you're not it's lucky enough to realize that
- 3:25that you do and you're not in the right circumstances
- 3:29to apply your talent so i'm being like that warren
- 3:38buffett has a saying that basically that he won
- 3:42the ovarian lottery born in the united states
- 3:45and had he been born in another country right
- 3:49so here i'm talking about um uh investing success
- 3:55for warren buffett he said he would never have
- 3:57been able to have the life and the success that
- 4:01he's had had been born anywhere else right so
- 4:04this is an example of you know how good fortune
- 4:08can come into play but on top of that you have
- 4:12to keep in mind that good fortune is necessary
- 4:21to it's necessary part of the mix so so far we
- 4:29have four elements it is intelligence instinct
- 4:33courage and good fortune and if you have these
- 4:37four if you have these four then you're very
- 4:43well set up to start negotiating and succeeding
- 4:47in your own deals. So here's how Trump concludes
- 4:55this introduction. When I look back at the deals
- 4:58I've made and the ones I've lost or let pass,
- 5:01I see certain common elements, but unlike the
- 5:03real estate evangelists you see all over television
- 5:05these days, I can't promise you that by following
- 5:08the precepts I'm about to offer, you'll become
- 5:10a millionaire overnight. Unfortunately, life
- 5:13rarely works that way, and most people who try
- 5:15to get rich quick end up going broke instead.
- 5:18As for those among you who have... who have the
- 5:21genes, who do have the instincts, and who could
- 5:23be highly successful, well, I still hope you
- 5:25won't follow my advice, because that would just
- 5:27make it a much tougher world for me. Here in
- 5:31Trump, in his classic sense of humor, is basically
- 5:37genuinely saying this is what he believes makes
- 5:40a difference. And if you really have all these
- 5:43elements, then you may compete even with him.
- 5:46So this is how much he believes. that these ingredients
- 5:50are the key to being successful. So I'll repeat
- 5:54them one more time. And that is intelligence,
- 5:58instincts, right? And mostly instinct over intelligence,
- 6:02but it is absolutely both. And then courage and
- 6:09good fortune to only discover your potential,
- 6:11but also to apply it. And to give your gifts
- 6:18to the world. And so this concludes our introduction
- 6:24to Chapter 2, Trump Cards, the Elements of the
- 6:29Deal.
