Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / ITB: How Marquise Brown's Signing Impacts The Overall Eagles WR Room
Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside. The Birds is back. What's up, everybody. It's Jeff Bocher,
- 0:15Speaker 1: It's Adam Kapp and we're in the middle of the week,
- 0:17Speaker 1: a couple of weeks in the free agency, and the
- 0:19Speaker 1: Eagles have made another move. It's an interesting one, Adam.
- 0:21Speaker 1: They we've talked quite a bit about whether or not
- 0:25Speaker 1: a J. Brown stays or goes is really irregardless to
- 0:28Speaker 1: the depth issue that the Eagles have at wide receiver,
- 0:32Speaker 1: especially with Johan Dotson leaving to go sign with the Falcons.
- 0:36Speaker 1: We mentioned that after the two starters Brown and DeVante Smith,
- 0:39Speaker 1: you're looking at like Darius Cooper, Johnny Wilson, Britton Covey,
- 0:42Speaker 1: just a bunch of guys who are not ready to
- 0:44Speaker 1: be the number three receiver. So the Eagles go and
- 0:47Speaker 1: sign Hollywood Brown Marquise for those who know him, also
- 0:52Speaker 1: to a one year deal. I think it's an interesting signing.
- 0:55Speaker 1: We'll discuss it. That clearly needed some bodies at the
- 0:58Speaker 1: position wardless of whether or not a J. Brown is
- 1:01Speaker 1: going to be on team. They needed guys.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Yeah, let's go inside. Really, what's happening here? So this
- 1:07Speaker 2: signing has twofold in terms of meaning in what could happen.
- 1:11Speaker 2: So if they traded aj Brown, they've gone inshurance policy.
- 1:15Speaker 2: If they cannot get anyone else who's experienced or in
- 1:18Speaker 2: a first round pick, they have Hollywood Brown, who's been
- 1:20Speaker 2: a starter for a lot of his career. He's had
- 1:23Speaker 2: an odd career in that he was the first round
- 1:25Speaker 2: pick of the Ravens in twenty nineteen. He had the
- 1:28Speaker 2: List franc injury, so he couldn't run at the combine.
- 1:32Speaker 2: But everyone at scottam know he was super explosive, averaged
- 1:35Speaker 2: almost nineteen yards of catch. Who's at Oklahoma for two years,
- 1:39Speaker 2: and you know he kind of wanted out of Baltimore.
- 1:42Speaker 2: He wanted to get the Baltimore You know, Baltimore was
- 1:44Speaker 2: a run first offense. This is his last year in Baltimore,
- 1:47Speaker 2: ironically was his best year. And then he gets traded
- 1:51Speaker 2: to Arizona. Then and then la Mark Jackson becomes a
- 1:53Speaker 2: better Passer's kind of funny how things work out.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Yeah, they'd be careful what you ask for exactly.
- 1:58Speaker 2: And he's with the Kyler Murray, who you just don't
- 2:03Speaker 2: know for one game the next what you're getting spectacular.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Then he's all over the place, runs around, doesn't throw
- 2:08Speaker 2: the football and his numbers dipped. He had one thousand
- 2:11Speaker 2: year season. That was his last year with the Ravens.
- 2:14Speaker 2: He turns twenty nine. He says about he's basically the
- 2:17Speaker 2: same age as as AJ Brown. A J. Brown obviously
- 2:20Speaker 2: way better, but it gives Hi an insurance pouse for
- 2:22Speaker 2: someone who started. When you see the deals up to
- 2:24Speaker 2: six five point five million, it's not only less than that,
- 2:26Speaker 2: it could be significantly less. We'll get the terms and
- 2:30Speaker 2: we'll we'll explain what they mean when we get when
- 2:32Speaker 2: we get the full breakdown.
- 2:33Speaker 3: But it's insurance, or it's if some reason A J.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Brown doesn't get traded and won't have to do it now,
- 2:39Speaker 2: they if they want to save that that cast space,
- 2:43Speaker 2: doing it on June second would make the most sense,
- 2:46Speaker 2: but we'll see what We'll see what the Patriots say
- 2:48Speaker 2: about that leading up to the draft.
- 2:50Speaker 3: But they have the insurance policy.
- 2:52Speaker 2: If Brown's gone AJ that is, or if he's back.
- 2:56Speaker 3: He's their third receiver. And as you said, we move
- 2:58Speaker 3: this along here, do they need depth at receiver?
- 3:01Speaker 1: Yeah, And I'm just gonna clarify this because I know
- 3:04Speaker 1: what you mean, but I don't want people to get confused.
- 3:06Speaker 1: You in no way, and none of us are suggesting
- 3:09Speaker 1: that an insurance policy means that you just slide Marquise
- 3:13Speaker 1: Brown into the aj Brown spot and you're good to go.
- 3:15Speaker 1: That obviously the Eagles will have a lot of work
- 3:17Speaker 1: to do. Uh, he's a He's someone who I think
- 3:21Speaker 1: has higher upside. I know has higher upside than Johan Dotson.
- 3:25Speaker 1: He has blistering speed. I don't know if the injuries
- 3:27Speaker 1: have taken some of that speed away. Obviously he's been
- 3:30Speaker 1: in some wonky offenses. You mentioned Arizona, He went to
- 3:33Speaker 1: Kansas City, got hurt there, and then he was involved,
- 3:37Speaker 1: you know, last year with a team that had another
- 3:40Speaker 1: speedy receiver in Uh, who's the kid from Texas that
- 3:43Speaker 1: they got in Kansas City? What's it worthy?
- 3:46Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 3:47Speaker 1: She rice? So the fit was weird. I also see that.
- 3:51Speaker 1: So again he comes here, I think as a chance
- 3:54Speaker 1: he has a chance to give you more out of
- 3:57Speaker 1: a number three receiver spot than you got from Han
- 4:00Speaker 1: Dotson because he's a more talented receiver. But the Eagles,
- 4:03Speaker 1: to me, Adam still with this offense like this is
- 4:07Speaker 1: not your your archetype slot receiver that I felt like
- 4:10Speaker 1: he may not play. There's really not a slot you.
- 4:13Speaker 1: He has played there though. I mean, I know he lines.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Up as a vertical slot. He's not a possession receiver.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I know his numbers will fool you. Another part of
- 4:21Speaker 2: this thing with Hollywood Brown has despite that incredible speed,
- 4:25Speaker 2: talk about a guy who averaged well less than twelve
- 4:27Speaker 2: years to catch for his career. Now we just outlined
- 4:29Speaker 2: partially why because of the quarterbacks he played with, not
- 4:33Speaker 2: great passers. That's part of it. Well, Lamar became a
- 4:35Speaker 2: way better passer later as his career progressed. But yeah,
- 4:39Speaker 2: it's been a it's been an odd kind of thing
- 4:41Speaker 2: for him. You know what I'm saying is he's a
- 4:43Speaker 2: one year solution, right.
- 4:44Speaker 3: If they trade a J.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Brown and they can't get that guy in the first
- 4:47Speaker 2: round or somebody else, He's an assurance policy for one
- 4:50Speaker 2: season until you can figure it out long term.
- 4:51Speaker 3: That's what it is.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Yes, to your point, that's that this worst case scenario,
- 4:56Speaker 1: if they trade a J. Brown and they can't get
- 4:59Speaker 1: the they want in the draft, and you're going into
- 5:02Speaker 1: the season with DeVante Smith and Hollywood Brown and Goddard
- 5:07Speaker 1: as like your top three pass catchers, you're missing something
- 5:10Speaker 1: like they would I would think Holly would have to
- 5:12Speaker 1: be creative and try it at least to try to
- 5:14Speaker 1: find somebody in the trade market or somewhere else to
- 5:17Speaker 1: just get more talent at that position. If you're gonna
- 5:19Speaker 1: go ahead and trade AJ Brown.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Well here's the reason why. Let's let's move this forward.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Let's say this is why we were doing the show.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Let's say A. J.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Brown's traded, which is very realistic. Maybe on June second,
- 5:30Speaker 2: but whatever. Let's say he's traded. Hollywood Brown steps in
- 5:34Speaker 2: just to be a starter. Okay for one year, they'll
- 5:36Speaker 2: figure out after that.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Who's your three?
- 5:39Speaker 2: Darius Cooper? Okay, Darres Cooper definitely showed some stuff. Is
- 5:41Speaker 2: he really ready to step in that three at three
- 5:43Speaker 2: year old?
- 5:44Speaker 3: Now?
- 5:44Speaker 1: Great? Unknown?
- 5:45Speaker 3: If Hollywood Brown.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Gets hurt and he's had an injury history, this is
- 5:49Speaker 2: where you were going. Do you really want Darius Cooper
- 5:52Speaker 2: to be the starter? I understand they're gona play a
- 5:53Speaker 2: lot of twelve personnel. I'm sure that's happening. So's it's
- 5:57Speaker 2: just I bet the house are gonna be heavy twelve
- 5:59Speaker 2: personal team. But so what what happens if Hollywood Brown
- 6:02Speaker 2: or Smith gets hurt? You know, DeVante doesn't get hurt
- 6:04Speaker 2: a lot, But what if one of those guys can play?
- 6:07Speaker 1: Right?
- 6:08Speaker 2: So, as a general manager where you're going here, as
- 6:10Speaker 2: a decision maker, you have to look at scenarios, what happens.
- 6:14Speaker 2: If there's just saying coaching, what is our answer. If
- 6:17Speaker 2: you don't have an answer, you have nothing.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Right you have have an answer.
- 6:20Speaker 1: That was my thought when I was going through my
- 6:23Speaker 1: head is that your your talent can dictate your personnel.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Your personnel can capitalize on your talent. If they had
- 6:29Speaker 1: to get a situation where they go into the year
- 6:31Speaker 1: where DeVante Smith and Marquise Brown are clearly their top
- 6:35Speaker 1: two receivers, then you're gonna have to play a lot
- 6:38Speaker 1: of twelve personnel, and it's possible you wind up in
- 6:41Speaker 1: the draft with a tight end that you really like
- 6:43Speaker 1: instead of it. Let's say you get Sadik, Let's say
- 6:45Speaker 1: you get the kid from Vanderbilt in the second round,
- 6:48Speaker 1: or Clare, anybody, any of those kids. Let's say you
- 6:50Speaker 1: like that tight end more than your number three receiver,
- 6:53Speaker 1: Well then you've got an opportunity to.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Yeah, but you wouldn't. But I'm going to disagree with you.
- 6:57Speaker 2: You're not drafting for one year, you're drafting whoever you take.
- 7:00Speaker 1: No, no, no, I didn't suggest that you draft for that.
- 7:02Speaker 1: I'm just saying, if you wind up not liking a receiver,
- 7:05Speaker 1: but you love this tight end for the future, and
- 7:07Speaker 1: he comes in and it does well in camp, then
- 7:09Speaker 1: you have a reason to play more twelve personnel for this. Yeah.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I'm not suggesting reaching. I'm just talking about letting your
- 7:16Speaker 1: personnel dictate.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 7:19Speaker 2: What you're saying is your personnel will tell you what
- 7:21Speaker 2: you're gonna play by performance, right right, what you see.
- 7:25Speaker 3: I just Holly Brown was always a huge fan.
- 7:28Speaker 2: I always have been, and he was sort of been
- 7:31Speaker 2: a tease like you'd see some big plays, then you'd
- 7:33Speaker 2: see these these short area throws. Sometimes it's you know,
- 7:37Speaker 2: Mahomes with scam scram all around, and he he didn't
- 7:41Speaker 2: have the relationship that Tyreek Kill had with Mahomes and
- 7:44Speaker 2: he didn't track the ball like Tyree could, because you
- 7:46Speaker 2: know what, Mahomes, you gotta track the football. You gotta,
- 7:48Speaker 2: you gotta, you gotta move in, you gotta you gotta
- 7:51Speaker 2: move in, you gotta, you gotta, you gotta follow where
- 7:52Speaker 2: Mahomes is going. And Hollywood Brown just didn't do it
- 7:55Speaker 2: as as well as as uh Tyreek did. So yeah,
- 7:58Speaker 2: it's interesting sign.
- 8:00Speaker 3: I think they had. That's something they had to do.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Even if A. J. Brown's back. They need a third receiver,
- 8:04Speaker 3: they need insurance policy. So yeah, it's good.
- 8:06Speaker 2: But Darres Cooper, great training camp, great story in the preseason.
- 8:10Speaker 2: This is a big offseason for him. This is this
- 8:14Speaker 2: is something that depending on what happens with AJ Brown. Look,
- 8:18Speaker 2: if they if Brown is, if AJ is traded, they're
- 8:22Speaker 2: gonna need another receiver just for competition. Danny Gray can't
- 8:26Speaker 2: count on him. Big injury history, Quest Watkins is, it's
- 8:29Speaker 2: amazing he stolen.
- 8:30Speaker 3: He's back.
- 8:30Speaker 2: It's not a future deal. Covey's a slot really a
- 8:34Speaker 2: punt returner and kick returner. Johnny Wilson major knee injury.
- 8:37Speaker 2: They just don't have anyone. So they're gonna have to
- 8:39Speaker 2: sign another receiver if that happened.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, if they had to play a game today
- 8:42Speaker 1: Adam and they wanted to say run a little bit
- 8:45Speaker 1: out of eleven personnel because you can't always run that
- 8:47Speaker 1: a twell personnel and be telegraphic, then Cooper would be
- 8:51Speaker 1: That was the role that he actually had last year
- 8:53Speaker 1: in his very limited role was the slot receiver. In
- 8:57Speaker 1: short yardage run situations, he would be out there on
- 9:00Speaker 1: the twis bush. So right now, if they had to
- 9:01Speaker 1: line up a play a game and wanted to run
- 9:03Speaker 1: a little bit of eleven, you would see, you know,
- 9:05Speaker 1: Davante and Marquis on the outsides and Dark and Darius
- 9:09Speaker 1: Cooper in the inside, and there you go. That's that's
- 9:11Speaker 1: what you would have to run. If you wanted to
- 9:13Speaker 1: run the ball out of eleven, that's what it would
- 9:15Speaker 1: look like. But there's a lot of work. There's work
- 9:17Speaker 1: to be done here and Yar March. Yeah, yeah, we
- 9:19Speaker 1: always remind people the you know how he made the
- 9:22Speaker 1: trade for CJ. Gardner Johnson like on August thirty first, okay,
- 9:27Speaker 1: he signed with Garrett Blunt in like May or June like.
- 9:30Speaker 1: He always makes very significant upgrades to the roster and
- 9:33Speaker 1: either free agency or trades all the way up to
- 9:36Speaker 1: when the season being John Dotson a week before the
- 9:39Speaker 1: season begins. So you can't discount that.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Yeah. Now.
- 9:43Speaker 2: The only thing is though, when you wait, sometimes clubs
- 9:47Speaker 2: know that you're desperate or I just can't believe that
- 9:51Speaker 2: the goals gave It wasn't was it?
- 9:53Speaker 3: Not a three for Dotson.
- 9:54Speaker 1: It was and that's a really good example of when
- 9:57Speaker 1: you wait too long, you overpay. And we got it exactly. Yeah,
- 10:01Speaker 1: we said that at the time, by the way, and
- 10:03Speaker 1: people were like, no, the first round, Pad, He's great,
- 10:05Speaker 1: He's gonna come to Philly to do awesome. No, listen,
- 10:07Speaker 1: I know he won a Super Bowl. I know he
- 10:09Speaker 1: made two big catches. How he could have gotten so
- 10:13Speaker 1: many guys in free agency that year in May that
- 10:16Speaker 1: caught fifteen to twenty passes that that dots and got.
- 10:19Speaker 1: It was I get why he was aggressive. We're not
- 10:21Speaker 1: killing him, but that was an overpay for John Dottson there.
- 10:24Speaker 3: It was. We we outlined it.
- 10:26Speaker 2: We told folks at the time of the acquisition that
- 10:29Speaker 2: the Commandos wanted Dotson off the roster. They just didn't
- 10:33Speaker 2: want the player. They didn't They just there was a
- 10:36Speaker 2: there was an issue with his effort. And it wasn't
- 10:38Speaker 2: a problem here though. He did a good yeah with
- 10:40Speaker 2: because Eagles are low volume throwing team, so he's gonna
- 10:43Speaker 2: have let low targets. Let they don't use the third
- 10:46Speaker 2: receiver very much, right, the third receivers are fourth pass target.
- 10:49Speaker 2: That guy's not getting football right, but he did a
- 10:51Speaker 2: good joint. He had to fill in, and but did
- 10:53Speaker 2: he get a great contract. But on your point, Blunt
- 10:56Speaker 2: signed May eighteenth, May eighteenth. His contract execution was May eighteenth,
- 10:59Speaker 2: twenty seventeen, that year when they won the Super Bowl,
- 11:03Speaker 2: and we talked about backed in in twenty twenty four
- 11:07Speaker 2: his contract I have this, let me see.
- 11:10Speaker 3: You gotta find it.
- 11:13Speaker 1: That he signed the day after day three of the draft.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Yeah, contract execution, yes, on your point exactly May one,
- 11:21Speaker 2: twenty twenty four.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Because that's when you stop having your signings count against
- 11:27Speaker 1: the Coppic formula.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Right right, right, right, it's comical. What's comical about this one?
- 11:32Speaker 2: At one year, two point seventy five million dollars, that's
- 11:35Speaker 2: with all the bonuses in it. Yeah, and he would
- 11:38Speaker 2: turn out to what when you when you told us
- 11:40Speaker 2: that he was going to play guard? I was like
- 11:41Speaker 2: almost fell over him, like are you sure about that?
- 11:43Speaker 3: And you were right.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I was surprised when I was told he may never I'll.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Tell you what the value of Staltlin that that of
- 11:50Speaker 2: all of the Staltlin coaching, like just the results a
- 11:57Speaker 2: lot of my lot is number one. Nothing could touch
- 11:59Speaker 2: that because it's the guy was he never played football
- 12:01Speaker 2: his life.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Yeah, Becan's top five, maybe to top three.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Yeah he yeah, you'd be be hard and then for
- 12:10Speaker 1: him to go somewhere else and then not play well,
- 12:12Speaker 1: which you know, this is going off the rails a
- 12:15Speaker 1: little bit. I'm not quite sure why the Chargers, who
- 12:17Speaker 1: ran a lot of outside zone under a Greg Roman,
- 12:20Speaker 1: really thought that Becton would be a good fit for them,
- 12:22Speaker 1: because the Eagles are an inside running team under under Staltlin,
- 12:25Speaker 1: they were a road grading guard type team. They weren't
- 12:28Speaker 1: a horizontal blocking team. They'll do a lot of outside stuff,
- 12:31Speaker 1: So I'm not sure what they thought. Maybe they just
- 12:34Speaker 1: figured they would pound the ball and he'd be fine
- 12:36Speaker 1: with it. But that's not really how Greg Roman. Greg
- 12:38Speaker 1: Roman likes to mix it up. But he does a
- 12:40Speaker 1: lot of outside zone.
- 12:41Speaker 2: He does a lot of stuff. Yeah, and he's now
- 12:43Speaker 2: with the Giants. He'll help Matt Naggot is on the
- 12:44Speaker 2: runking Becton. By the way, it just shows you you
- 12:46Speaker 2: got to understand contracts. So it was reported to years
- 12:49Speaker 2: for twenty million. I'm like, there's no way that's right.
- 12:51Speaker 1: I remember you said that.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Yeah, Like this is the total nonsense. He's not the
- 12:55Speaker 2: second year unless he plays well. He got cut, right,
- 12:57Speaker 2: but he did make ten million the first year. Yeah,
- 13:01Speaker 2: that's pretty good.
- 13:02Speaker 3: For you know. He he just he had a weird year.
- 13:04Speaker 3: He had her injuries.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Of course, he's most of his career other than with
- 13:07Speaker 2: the Eagles, was marred by injury.
- 13:09Speaker 3: And he got bench. He got his job back. He's
- 13:11Speaker 3: being rotated in games.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Like when an offensive lineman is being rotated in games,
- 13:15Speaker 2: that's that's a sign that the guy's not playing well.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Right, good?
- 13:19Speaker 3: Right?
- 13:20Speaker 1: All right? Last thing, you know you mentioned a j. Brown.
- 13:23Speaker 1: We did talk about it. I mean Jayleen Waddle gets traded. Yeah,
- 13:26Speaker 1: how about the Denver Broncos? How about that? Yeah, Bronco's
- 13:30Speaker 1: clearly laying it all on the table here because you know,
- 13:33Speaker 1: they probably feel like they should have beaten the Patriots.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Obviously if they had knicks, they probably would have. But
- 13:38Speaker 1: their offense was wonky all year long. It really did miss.
- 13:41Speaker 1: I like Courtland Sutton a lot. I think he's the
- 13:43Speaker 1: perfect guy to pair though with a vertical threat dimension
- 13:48Speaker 1: that Jaylen Waddle is, and I think it's a good
- 13:50Speaker 1: it makes sense for them, But the price at him
- 13:52Speaker 1: that that says says something.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Well, they got a one, although they it was a
- 13:56Speaker 2: lot of draft picks moving back and forth. And AJ Brown,
- 13:59Speaker 2: if you a J. Brown's a little bit older, but
- 14:01Speaker 2: he's a better football player. You just's seen around league
- 14:04Speaker 2: is a better football player. I know it's a little
- 14:05Speaker 2: bit subjective, but well you also see why how he
- 14:10Speaker 2: wants a one. I mean, he just got confirmation of it.
- 14:12Speaker 2: But the Patriots, as I've understood it for several weeks,
- 14:17Speaker 2: how he wants way too much now the quick because
- 14:20Speaker 2: I and it's ironically so that so the Patriots have
- 14:23Speaker 2: thirty first pick.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Overall, what do the Broncs have thirtieth?
- 14:25Speaker 1: Just kind of funny journey.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Well, but didn't they get a twenty twenty seven? Let
- 14:31Speaker 3: me just.
- 14:32Speaker 1: See are you talking about in the in the trade
- 14:35Speaker 1: for Battle? I thought it was this year, but I
- 14:38Speaker 1: could be wrong.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Check.
- 14:40Speaker 1: But yeah, it is very very interesting that these guys
- 14:42Speaker 1: are like back to back and it almost is sort
- 14:44Speaker 1: of like a game of chess a little bit between
- 14:46Speaker 1: the Patriots and the Broncos, you know, like, oh, you
- 14:49Speaker 1: want a receiver, we did, we got, we went and
- 14:51Speaker 1: did we needed to do to get one? Bam? Now
- 14:53Speaker 1: we got one.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Yeah, it is.
- 14:54Speaker 2: It is this year. Yeah, the thirtieth overall. So the Eagles,
- 14:59Speaker 2: I'm gonna be interesting it. Now, where's the urgency come?
- 15:01Speaker 2: Is it going to come closer to the draft, you know,
- 15:04Speaker 2: to get this Brown trade done?
- 15:06Speaker 3: Do they have a wink wink?
- 15:07Speaker 2: Not?
- 15:07Speaker 3: Do they have an agreement?
- 15:08Speaker 2: But we know for cap purposes it can't get executed
- 15:12Speaker 2: till June second, because it it is.
- 15:14Speaker 3: I mean that Look, the cap hit is over forty million.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Right, you know it's it's dates matter, dates matter, and
- 15:22Speaker 2: the Eagle's cap position is really good right now with
- 15:25Speaker 2: the goddter situation. I just remember when I when I
- 15:28Speaker 2: called you to tell you, I said, You're not gonna
- 15:30Speaker 2: believe this is really weird and I have to check
- 15:31Speaker 2: on the validity of this. But I had heard at
- 15:33Speaker 2: the Super Bowl that if they keep going on the roster,
- 15:37Speaker 2: the cap hit is significantly less.
- 15:38Speaker 3: I'm like, okay, this hazard is some of the void date.
- 15:41Speaker 2: I didn't really the void date was the start of
- 15:43Speaker 2: the new league year, right, and then they moved it
- 15:46Speaker 2: back twice yep. Sometimes, I mean, I know last summer
- 15:51Speaker 2: there was an option, but there was an option bonus date.
- 15:54Speaker 2: There's something in. It might have been right before the
- 15:56Speaker 2: season started. Every team has them different, you know, but anyway,
- 16:00Speaker 2: so god, it's back. Their cash bet is. It's really funny.
- 16:04Speaker 2: They're doing one year deals to get everyone's getting one
- 16:06Speaker 2: year deal. No one's got multi year. But their cash
- 16:08Speaker 2: bet is way up comparatively million, up comparatively to last year.
- 16:13Speaker 2: But it's up because Ojelari got the biggest deal last
- 16:16Speaker 2: year at four millions.
- 16:19Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 16:20Speaker 1: My god, Yeah, that's credible. Imagine a day where the
- 16:23Speaker 1: Mules are top, top spending free agency will be four
- 16:26Speaker 1: million dollars. But it happens.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Hard to believe, hard to believe.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Hey, if you're like me, you're desensitized to the dozens
- 16:32Speaker 1: of notifications on your phone every day. But if that
- 16:35Speaker 1: latest ping is from your security camera, ignoring it could
- 16:38Speaker 1: spell disaster. Picture this, someone's breaking into your home, but
- 16:42Speaker 1: you're giving a huge presentation at work, or you're at
- 16:44Speaker 1: the movies, or you're thirty thousand feet in the sky
- 16:46Speaker 1: on a flight. You'll see the footage in a couple hours,
- 16:49Speaker 1: but by then it's too late. That's why I chose

- 18:43Speaker 1: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 18:46Speaker 1: one and up. Hey, I just want to before we
- 18:49Speaker 1: get out of it. I guess I'm dying on this
- 18:51Speaker 1: hill or maybe beating a dead horse. But even with
- 18:53Speaker 1: the Marquis Brown sign, I'm just I really think the
- 18:56Speaker 1: Eagles need a like typical slat receiver for this offense.
- 19:02Speaker 1: And you know, I know that there's not a lot
- 19:04Speaker 1: of guys out there that are There are a few
- 19:08Speaker 1: that are really good slot receivers. I don't know how
- 19:10Speaker 1: much money they want or whether you know some of
- 19:12Speaker 1: them are getting up there in age, but you know,
- 19:15Speaker 1: if they want to be able to be non telegraphic,
- 19:19Speaker 1: you know, pass out of eleven, run out of eleven,
- 19:21Speaker 1: pass out as well, run out of So I just
- 19:23Speaker 1: feel like that they've gotten by too long because they've
- 19:26Speaker 1: been a shot play offense too much and they want
- 19:28Speaker 1: to stop being that. You want a better marriage between
- 19:31Speaker 1: your run and your pass game using play action, then
- 19:34Speaker 1: it really helps to have a guy who just understands
- 19:37Speaker 1: the nuance of playing the slot the way say Jason
- 19:39Speaker 1: Levant did. It can really make go across like an
- 19:43Speaker 1: Adam Feeling type goal across the middle and make plays
- 19:46Speaker 1: get a little yards after the catch, and you know,
- 19:48Speaker 1: I just I don't think they have that on their
- 19:50Speaker 1: roster right now. They have for years.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Yeah, Davante has done very well. The slot numbers are good,
- 19:55Speaker 2: but he's not a true slot receiver. The true slots
- 19:57Speaker 2: are Feeling. We talked about the in the last show
- 20:00Speaker 2: Keenan Allen ju Ju. It's definitely could play inside. That's
- 20:04Speaker 2: he just doesn't run that well anymore. Yep, He's had
- 20:06Speaker 2: this knee issue over his life of his career.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Greg Dortch is out.
- 20:10Speaker 3: George Dortch yep Dortch, Yeah, who's been kind of a
- 20:13Speaker 3: great story. Butdy Cliff Kingsbury love him.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Yeah uh.
- 20:17Speaker 3: And then Cedric Wilson could do it. Sterling Shepard, oh boy,
- 20:21Speaker 3: but he's got to be near the end.
- 20:23Speaker 1: I saw that crazy enough. He was playing outside for
- 20:26Speaker 1: the Bucks.
- 20:27Speaker 3: Remember the top of the receivers were out.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Right right, but he was doing all right like mate
- 20:31Speaker 1: Baker was getting the ball.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Yeah, Scotty Miller could play insider Outside's got good interior quickness.
- 20:37Speaker 2: It's here's the thing. They got away with it before,
- 20:41Speaker 2: with the previous coaching staffs and the coordinators and where
- 20:44Speaker 2: was coaching him. But man West Coast offense, tight ends
- 20:48Speaker 2: usually get involved a true West Coast offense. You'd like
- 20:51Speaker 2: to have a slot receiver. Now, the guy he's not
- 20:53Speaker 2: a slot but he's the best receiver out there. Well
- 20:56Speaker 2: he's not, he's one of the best, and he certainly
- 20:58Speaker 2: he's lined up in the slot.
- 21:00Speaker 3: And that's your guy. Juwan Jennings, who has not gotten
- 21:02Speaker 3: his deal.
- 21:04Speaker 1: I know that's the thing. He wants big money and
- 21:06Speaker 1: he's a good player. He'd be perfect I mean I
- 21:08Speaker 1: I intentionally didn't mention him because I know that he
- 21:11Speaker 1: wants money. But to your point, if we get to
- 21:14Speaker 1: you know, after the draft or a couple of weeks
- 21:16Speaker 1: and he doesn't get it, maybe he will take a
- 21:18Speaker 1: one year deal for a lot less to kind of
- 21:20Speaker 1: prove it, and this would be a good place.
- 21:22Speaker 3: You're only if you're the Eagles. You're only doing it
- 21:23Speaker 3: if you've moved to a J Brown. There's no reason
- 21:25Speaker 3: to do it.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, absolutely, yeah, because.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Not that we're down to bargain basement contracts right now.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Whenever he wanted is way down the top available receivers
- 21:36Speaker 2: right now, or Deebo Samuel, which is interesting, Tyry Kill,
- 21:40Speaker 2: I don't. I mean, he's having one of the worst
- 21:42Speaker 2: knee injuries. You could have guys who are actually healthy, Debo,
- 21:46Speaker 2: Juwan Jennings, Stefan Jigs has the legal issue. This guy
- 21:52Speaker 2: I love and you could line him up anywhere. Is
- 21:55Speaker 2: Brandon Cooks, who look great with Buffalo.
- 21:58Speaker 1: He looks I think you be perfect for this team.
- 22:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I said, Keenan Allen's a really good one there.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Maybe that's why Theagles haven't moved on this, because they
- 22:08Speaker 1: know come May. Yeah, there'll there'll be some guys out there. Yeah,
- 22:13Speaker 1: but yeah, I think this feeling would be mutual. I
- 22:15Speaker 1: don't think Jennings would want to come here if A J.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Brown was on the reason, everybody else will. I don't
- 22:21Speaker 1: want to be the fifth option on.
- 22:22Speaker 3: This forget it.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you're right. He'd be technically the fourth receiver,
- 22:26Speaker 2: but the fifth option. He'll like one play and lets
- 22:28Speaker 2: someone gets hurt. Literally would not play. He would he
- 22:31Speaker 2: would just play on the you don't want to for us,
- 22:34Speaker 2: you don't play the Eagles or not. Could be a
- 22:35Speaker 2: ten personnel team, right, if you played it, you play
- 22:38Speaker 2: like maybe three snaps per game. Yeah, so anyway, Yeah,
- 22:42Speaker 2: they're the longer you wait the better, the more the
- 22:44Speaker 2: prices come down.
- 22:46Speaker 3: I like the signing Hollywood Browns is explosive.
- 22:49Speaker 2: And one thing you could say about hers is he's
- 22:51Speaker 2: got a lot big arm. Yeah, that so's Lamar. Now,
- 22:56Speaker 2: Lamar became a much better passer and Hollywood's last year
- 23:00Speaker 2: and then he really took off.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Yeah, hey, listen, if Hollywood could become a better deep
- 23:06Speaker 1: ball tracker, this would be the perfect offense because we
- 23:08Speaker 1: know how much hearts likes to drive the ball down
- 23:10Speaker 1: the field outside the numbers. That's where he could flourish
- 23:13Speaker 1: if he can get the even if he gets just
- 23:15Speaker 1: a little bit better and catches like two of the
- 23:18Speaker 1: four thrown to him, a game that can make the difference.
- 23:21Speaker 3: A small guy, it's around five.
- 23:24Speaker 2: He's like, like DeVante is like, I'm in a history
- 23:29Speaker 2: of our show. In nine years, I don't remember re
- 23:31Speaker 2: sever Remember I don't remember a receiver who was one
- 23:34Speaker 2: seventy played, Like, oh, yeah, he's just ridiculous.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Yes, However, I think watching Marquise and maybe others, we
- 23:44Speaker 1: should all appreciate just how good Deshaun.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Was at.
- 23:49Speaker 1: At the ball. So he did something that a lot
- 23:53Speaker 1: of players can't do. He could run at top speed
- 23:56Speaker 1: and catch the ball at the same time without slowing
- 24:00Speaker 1: up while tracking the ball. Do you do you realize
- 24:02Speaker 1: that is so freaking hard. That's why he was a
- 24:04Speaker 1: great outfielder too. And I think it was he was
- 24:06Speaker 1: drafted by the Dodgers, I believe, But he was just
- 24:09Speaker 1: magnificent at it. Yeah, like slow down a little bit
- 24:14Speaker 1: right at the end, just to make sure that he can't.
- 24:17Speaker 1: But no, Dja could just catch it and stride and
- 24:19Speaker 1: keep running.
- 24:19Speaker 3: How many times with d Jacks with the Eagles three times?
- 24:23Speaker 1: Was it three one? I thought it was two, but
- 24:26Speaker 1: you might well, I think it was three contra or
- 24:31Speaker 1: three times. But it's because he came back after coming
- 24:35Speaker 1: back the second time, right, I don't think there was
- 24:37Speaker 1: there was another team in between his second and his
- 24:40Speaker 1: third one.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Well, it was Eagles, the Redskins, Bucks, Eagles.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Uh, it was twice. Okay, I couldn't remember, but I
- 24:49Speaker 2: totally forgot. He was with the Ravens Dannis careers. I
- 24:51Speaker 2: remember him being oh man, I did too. Yeah, yeah,
- 24:55Speaker 2: Raiders briefly Rams, I remember that, and yeah, how he
- 25:00Speaker 2: wanted that speedback.
- 25:02Speaker 3: He was a special talent man. Now he's a he's
- 25:04Speaker 3: a college head coach. Pretty cool at Delaware State.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Delaware State. Yeah, absolutely, all right, So that's good. That's
- 25:09Speaker 1: our look inside the Marquise Brown signing, the AJ Brown situation,
- 25:13Speaker 1: and of course we'll keep you updated all week long.
