- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Before we get to today's episode, I want to share an incredible opportunity for you to grow as a writer.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: You know, listening to podcasts and reading emails and books and getting on Zoom calls is great, but there's nothing quite like being in a small group of other writers who are making their writing dreams come true by publishing books and building their business.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Well, that's what the Daily Writer Retreat is all about.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: On May 2nd through 4th, we will gather in beautiful St.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Charles, Missouri, just outside of St.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Louis, in a historic home to help you take a giant leap as a writer.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: We'll start with a classy dinner on Tuesday night, followed by two amazing days of connection, planning, teaching, and masterminding together.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: But don't take my word for it.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Listen to what one of our members, MJ James, had to say about her experience at last fall's retreat.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: It's been amazing being here these last two days.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: It's super fun.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Not only did we get to delve deeper into the relationships that we have with one another and build possible collaboration efforts, which we're all super excited about.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: I think the biggest thing was sitting down and being able to feel excited about doing a small book.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: This was super exciting because a lot of times when I do client work, they come and they want these big, giant pieces done.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: And I have outlines in place for those, and I've done those before, and that's fine.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: But I think it's really motivational and inspiring to know not only how to do a small book, but how well they are working and performing for people who are doing small books, who have published small books, what that return on their invested time for those pieces are.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: So I think that was a great thing to learn.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: I'm super excited to delve into my next book.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much, MJ.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Hey, if you need a creative boost and you want to grow your writing into a part-time or full-time business, the Daily Writer Retreat is for you.

- 2:32SPEAKER_00: All right, let's get to today's episode.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: In the world of computers, WYSIWYG or WYSI, WYG WYSIWYG, it stands for what you see is what you get.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: And this refers to an editing system or interface where the content you see on screen shows exactly how it will look when it's printed or displayed.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Now, WYSIWYG can also refer to the way that you look at the world, because after all, what you see is truly what you get.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: So let me ask you a few questions.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Do you see opportunities everywhere?
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Do you see people you can connect with and learn from?
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Do you see a world filled with publishing options and technology that lets you share and sell your work to anybody with an internet connection?
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Do you see sparks of creativity in your life every day through the books you read, the people you meet, and the places you go?
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Or on the flip side, do you see negative people who are only out to get you?
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Do you see everybody else getting opportunities while you have to fight for scraps?
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Do you feel shut down by other people who don't like your work?
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Do you feel pressed for time and can never seem to get any writing done?
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Do you feel angry or upset by everything that's happening in the world today?
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Well, the bottom line is, what you see is what you get.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: If you see possibilities for success, that's what you'll get.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: But if you see a world full of obstacles and frustration, that's also what you'll get.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Charles Dickens was right when he began his classic book, A Tale of Two Cities, with these words.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Well, everybody around you may feel like it's the worst of times, but you can choose to see something different.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: It's truly the best of times if you're a writer who's willing to put in the work and take advantage of the fantastic opportunities we have today.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: So, my friend, here's today's challenge.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Take a moment to consider all the opportunities you have as a writer today, and simply be grateful.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Thanks for listening, and I'll see you next time.
