Gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton took a helicopter tour of the Oceano Dunes, blasting the California Coastal Commission as “idiots” and “bureaucrats” for restricting access to a beloved, economically vital spot that draws two million visitors a year. The dunes, sacred to many families and recently reopened after a court-ordered shutdown, are now a flashpoint in the election as Hilton vows to appoint “common sense” commissioners if elected.
