- 0:00So last week, I was at home and I decided it was time to take a shower.
- 0:08And as I was getting ready to take a shower, I noticed in the back of my left
- 0:12side of the neck, I felt a lump.
- 0:14And I said, whoa, where did this lump come from?
- 0:18So what did I do? Well, I did the most smartest thing you could do,
- 0:22right? The most coolest thing you can do. I went on the internet.
- 0:27And what did I do? I self-diagnosed myself.
- 0:31Why would you do that, Angel? Well, I'm not a doctor, but you know who is and
- 0:36who's going to talk about us not doing that?
- 0:39Dr. E is back. And number one thing you always got to remember,
- 0:43don't go on the internet to self-diagnose yourself.
- 0:47Let the professionals do it.
- 0:49Here we go. Have faith, let it begin.
- 0:51Starts right now. Have faith, let it begin. When it starts right now.
- 0:57Music.
- 0:59Welcome to Have Faith. Let it begin. Here's your host, Angel Santana. Ariel.
- 1:07Can you say, have faith? Let it begin. Let it begin? Let it begin. Say, have faith.
- 1:14Let it begin. Let it begin. No. No? No? Okay.
- 1:19Hi, Noah. Noah! Oh, Noah. Oh, Jesus. Happy birthday, Noah.
- 1:25Take that. I'm doing it. See, he just does that. No.
- 1:32Noah. This little light of mine, I'm going to let it.
- 1:36Say. This little light of mine, I'm going to let it say.
- 1:41This little light of mine, I'm going to let it say. Let it say.
- 1:47Let it say. Let it say. Yeah!
- 1:53Daddy, I'm so excited, but I have one question. What's your question?
- 1:57Are you going to be a pastor or a minister?
- 2:00Good question. I don't know, but it is all in God's hands. Good morning.
- 2:05You're listening to Have Faith Lab again, and it starts right now.
- 2:10Dr. E is back. Dr. E, I made the worst mistake.
- 2:13I went online, and I just started to see what was, what was,
- 2:17I think I just typed it in.
- 2:19What causes the lump on the back up your neck? Oh, the worst mistake I ever did. How are you, buddy?
- 2:24Oh, man, I'm good. Hello, Have Faith. I missed you guys. I've been going to
- 2:28an every other week format.
- 2:30Angel, we got to figure out a way of getting me on Have Faith every week.
- 2:33I don't want to miss that because I love your, I love your family.
- 2:36I love our family here at Have Faith.
- 2:39Yeah. I mean, Angel, you are the co-host of the Croc podcast, right?
- 2:43And you know, we actually did a podcast on Dr.
- 2:47Googling and we have told all of our survivor thrivers not to do that.
- 2:52And you have an older brother who happens to be a doctor.
- 2:56That's me. And I could have very easily checked your neck for you and told you,
- 3:00I smacked you on the face and told you you were fine. but instead you did probably
- 3:05the worst thing you could ever do.
- 3:07Yeah. And it's hard. And I think that I said to myself, wow,
- 3:10when I see you today and we record, I said, that's the episode I want to go with.
- 3:14Because even though I knew it was wrong, I just got, I got curious.
- 3:19And the curiosity was that curiosity killed the cat. Right.
- 3:22And, and I felt like I was on YouTube. When you go down that rabbit hole where
- 3:26you just go episode after episode, or you you're scrolling and you see one prank after another.
- 3:31So I say, well, this is more of Dr. E's specialty. And I said,
- 3:35listen, we really should cover, cover this because it's not the first time I've heard it.
- 3:39I see it all the time with even my friends. They say that there's,
- 3:42you know, stomach hurts.
- 3:43They think it's an ulcer. They say it's this, what, what is the best advice you can give us?
- 3:49We already know the answer, but let's hear from a professional.
- 3:52What would you say we should do?
- 3:55Obviously. And we already know what not to do, but what should we do when we
- 3:58feel like we have something going on and we shouldn't go to the,
- 4:02obviously the internet, what would you say we should do?
- 4:04Yeah. So, wow. Thank you, Angel. I, I do have an answer to that.
- 4:08So we used to have a funny expression in the days before the internet.
- 4:11So when we were medical students in the early 1980s, you know, there was a phenomenon.
- 4:17The phenomenon was that every medical student was going to have every illness that they studied.
- 4:22And that was sort of a precursor, you know, to, to Dr.
- 4:25Google, because we would read about leukemia and we would have leukemia.
- 4:29We would read about, you know, hepatitis and we would have hepatitis.
- 4:33We would read about, you know, genital warts and we would have genital warts, you name it.
- 4:38We would, that's what being a medical student back in the day before the internet was all about.
- 4:43But very clearly, my biggest advice is that I want everyone on Half Faith to
- 4:50be proactive with their health.
- 4:51So if you have a health situation, if you're not healthy, if you feel overweight,
- 5:00if you feel your blood sugar is off, if you feel you have high blood pressure,
- 5:04or if you happen to have high blood pressure, if you have habits that are not
- 5:08healthy, if you're smoking, if you're drinking a little bit too much.
- 5:13These are all the things that when something bad happens to you,
- 5:17it makes things that much worse.
- 5:19So let's first start with being proactive.
- 5:23Whatever it is, whatever your age, you could be 16, you could be 60,
- 5:27you could be 20, you could be 40.
- 5:29I don't care how old you are. I want you to take stock of your health.
- 5:35And then I want you to find a primary care doctor.
- 5:37That's the first thing you're going to do. someone that you could connect with
- 5:41and understand and have a partnership with and that you could trust.
- 5:47And then I want you to then put down a list of some of the things you have to work on.
- 5:53Now, this is not something, if you're a smoker, I don't want you to quit smoking overnight.
- 5:59I don't need you to quit drinking a case of beer overnight.
- 6:03It takes time and planning. Once you start knowing yourself,
- 6:08once you start knowing your medical vulnerabilities.
- 6:12Then when something happens, you run a fever, you have diarrhea,
- 6:17your throat hurts, your ear hurts, you can't see out of your right eye,
- 6:22you have a lump on your neck or whatever.
- 6:25Then you'll be able to put everything in perspective.
- 6:28Do not use Dr.
- 6:30Google as the primary, you know, knee jerk reaction.
- 6:34You have a, first of all, if you know what your problems are.
- 6:38So if you have heart disease and you have pressure or pain in your chest,
- 6:43don't go to Dr. Google, go to the emergency room.
- 6:46If you have a fever, but you're healthy and you feel that you have very good
- 6:51foundation for health, then you could ride it out for a few days.
- 6:54As long as you don't feel you're in danger, you're dizzy, you faint,
- 6:58you know, or something silly, you don't need to, you know, sit 16 hours in an
- 7:02emergency room just to be kicked out, right? You don't need to do that.
- 7:06Number three, doctor who will do being knowledgeable about a situation or a condition that
- 7:13is fine, but let it go through your doctor first.
- 7:17Once you see your primary doctor and they alleviate your fears of what this
- 7:22could be, then what you say to them is, doc,
- 7:25you know, I actually had an eye issue maybe about two years ago and I started
- 7:30and I went to a retinologist and you know, doctors, you guys all think doctors
- 7:34know everything about everything.
- 7:36I knew about as much about this condition as Angel probably knows about brain surgery.
- 7:43And there was nothing. And I asked
- 7:45them for resources. I wanted to know a little bit about what this was.
- 7:48So if it ever happened again, I wouldn't have to go to Dr. Google.
- 7:52You can get that information from your doctor. So Angel, just to recapitulate,
- 7:56I know I went a little long today.
- 7:58I want you to take stock of your health. I want you to identify some of the
- 8:03things that you need to improve on. I wanted you to go out there and find a
- 8:07great primary care that you can relate to.
- 8:10And I want you to come up with a health plan.
- 8:12When something happens that you're not expecting, as I said,
- 8:16your blood sugar goes high, your blood pressure, you have a headache,
- 8:19you have a fever, you have a lump on your neck.
- 8:22Contact your doctor first and foremost, get the reassurance that you need that
- 8:27it's not a problem and then get back on your program for health.
- 8:31Angel, does that answer your question? It was perfect. And I,
- 8:34you know, I wanted to do this episode, but I didn't feel quite honestly qualified
- 8:38to answer it in the way you did.
- 8:40And I knew you would articulate it in a way that our audience can understand
- 8:44it. Folks, we're going to conclude this way. Two things.
- 8:47Number one, if you like what you heard, this is kind of in a way what the Crock
- 8:52podcast, Citizens Reunited to Overcome Cancer, does talk about.
- 8:56There are episodes that we can pick and choose based on your needs,
- 9:01but I guarantee you we've done episodes about this. Some of them in detail.
- 9:05Sometimes we've had guests of there were doctors about certain types of,
- 9:10you know, uh, things that you were diagnosed with, or maybe not diagnosed with.
- 9:14So I, I strongly suggest you take a look at the croc podcast,
- 9:17take a look at crocvip.com.
- 9:19Now on a side note.
- 9:22There are people here on this planet for a reason. They're called doctors. They're called nurses.
- 9:28They're called pediatricians. They have studied and they know what is best and
- 9:33what is in our best interest.
- 9:35God didn't make mistakes when they put them on the table or as far as behind
- 9:41their masks or at the operating table.
- 9:44So we ask you and encourage you to think the right way.
- 9:47Put yourself and your health first. and also in addition to Dr.
- 9:52Google, don't listen to Aunt May and Aunt Susie who say, you know what,
- 9:56I think you have this because they do that too.
- 9:59So go to the professionals and make sure that you know it best.
- 10:03But you wanna know something?
- 10:04There is one person that will always keep your health in check.
- 10:08There is one person that oversees our health and knows us better than anyone
- 10:13else and that is our Heavenly Father.
- 10:16So today, if you're not feeling well, we pray that you get better.
- 10:20If you have lost a loved one, we are with you.
- 10:23If you want to continue to hear more of this and you have any type of feedback,
- 10:28feel free to reach out to us.
- 10:29May God be with you. May he shine his light upon you and grant each and every
- 10:33single one of you peace on earth.
- 10:35We'll see you next Monday with Dr. E. I'll be back again tomorrow and never forget.
