- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to SEC Football Addiction. Sports Talk Jay with us.
- 0:03Speaker 1: We are presented by PrizePix. Going to talk a little Tennessee, Alabama.

- 0:10Speaker 1: first $ 5 lineup over on the PrizePix app using code HMA.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Third Saturday in October. We talked about this in the offseason.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Before we even talk about the game, I love the uniforms.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I'll tell you, I don't love Tennessee's gray. I know
- 0:22Speaker 1: the fans get ate up, but I don't love the
- 0:24Speaker 1: Tennessee gray. But I do love the color gray. It
- 0:28Speaker 1: feels like one of those NFL games where they both
- 0:30Speaker 1: wear the colors. I like what Tennessee and Alabama are
- 0:32Speaker 1: doing this game. For so much of tradition and rivalries
- 0:35Speaker 1: and everything else is dying in this sport, I'm glad
- 0:38Speaker 1: this game is being played on the third Saturday of October,
- 0:40Speaker 1: and I'm glad they're both wearing the uniforms.
- 0:42Speaker 2: They haven't worn since, what, the 70s?
- 0:43Speaker 1: Is that right?
- 0:45Speaker 3: Crap. Dude, I haven't even seen that.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Tennessee's wearing orange. Bama's wearing crimson. I think we talked
- 0:50Speaker 1: about it during the summer when they announced this. But
- 0:52Speaker 1: they're both wearing the color uniforms.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Really?
- 0:57Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I love it. That's my favorite thing about
- 0:59Speaker 2: the game.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Well, I love tradition, so I can't believe that I
- 1:03Speaker 3: have not seen that. Let me pull it up here. Yeah, Tennessee, Alabama,
- 1:06Speaker 3: where they're both their home jerseys. Okay, that's cool. That's fine.
- 1:10Speaker 1: That you have to do a whole show on it.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Now we'll have to, we'll jump back on yours and
- 1:14Speaker 1: record another one on the uniform matchup. But, but we
- 1:20Speaker 1: talked about it on your show, Tennessee, just five. We
- 1:23Speaker 1: didn't talk since the, since the Arkansas game happened. It's
- 1:26Speaker 1: been 25 years since you won in Fayetteville. And that
- 1:31Speaker 1: game got a little hairier than maybe people expected. Now
- 1:33Speaker 1: Tennessee still won, but maybe a bit closer than people expected.
- 1:37Speaker 1: What did you think coming out of that one?
- 1:39Speaker 4: I had that in the back of my mind. I
- 1:41Speaker 4: was like, here we go. It's Arkansas-Fayetteville. For some reason,
- 1:45Speaker 4: there's a little jinx down there for us. And I
- 1:49Speaker 4: thought we were going to go ahead and go ahead
- 1:50Speaker 4: 14 to nothing there at the end of the first half.
- 1:53Speaker 4: And then we have the almost scooping score. And I
- 1:56Speaker 4: was like, OK, this game's going to be different in
- 2:00Speaker 4: the second half. And then they came out and just
- 2:01Speaker 4: jumped us. But I knew it was going to be
- 2:04Speaker 4: a close game after. Because that was like, it kind
- 2:07Speaker 4: of messed up the team.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:09Speaker 4: It inspired Arkansas that, hey, these guys aren't ready to
- 2:12Speaker 4: beat us. And it let them know that that inexperience
- 2:16Speaker 4: at QB is real and now just attack, attack, attack,
- 2:20Speaker 4: Johnny Major style.
- 2:22Speaker 3: And that's kind of what they did to us.
- 2:23Speaker 4: And I thought they were going to maybe win the
- 2:25Speaker 4: game in the third quarter when they went up on
- 2:26Speaker 4: us by a touchdown.
- 2:27Speaker 3: I was like, crap, are we going to lose in
- 2:29Speaker 3: Arkansas again? Yeah. That would have been a terrible loss
- 2:33Speaker 3: for us, a tragic loss.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Oh, it would have changed the entire outlook on the
- 2:37Speaker 2: rest of the season.
- 2:37Speaker 3: 100%.
- 2:39Speaker 2: It would have been, you know, awful.
- 2:42Speaker 1: What went wrong in that second quarter? Or that third quarter,
- 2:45Speaker 1: I'm sorry, defensively? Like, do you think Arkansas– I mean,
- 2:48Speaker 1: one field was a little bit short, right, come off
- 2:50Speaker 1: a turnover. But what do you think the problem was
- 2:53Speaker 1: there defensively?
- 2:55Speaker 4: I think that fumble and that– I think that gave
- 3:00Speaker 4: inspiration to Arkansas. Yeah, they missed the field goal. They
- 3:02Speaker 4: should have at least got that out of it. But
- 3:04Speaker 4: it changed– the whole mindset of that game. And then
- 3:08Speaker 4: we had some defensive linemen that were out during a
- 3:11Speaker 4: period of time in that third quarter. There's some key guys,
- 3:13Speaker 4: Xavier Gilliam, who is our, our best defensive lineman.
- 3:17Speaker 3: So there was some weakness in there.
- 3:19Speaker 4: And I think that was part of it, but you
- 3:20Speaker 4: could feel like Arkansas knew they.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Had a chance after that fumble. I don't know. It
- 3:26Speaker 3: was like, we were all crap. We're going to go
- 3:27Speaker 3: down 14, nothing. Here we go again. We suck.
- 3:30Speaker 4: And next thing you know, they're like, we could win
- 3:32Speaker 4: this game. And I think when you're on the road,
- 3:36Speaker 4: You cannot give a team air. You've got to put
- 3:39Speaker 4: them down, finish them, and if you don't, especially in.
- 3:43Speaker 3: The SEC, because it's not like Arkansas doesn't have talent.
- 3:45Speaker 3: They spent money. It's just you don't want to give
- 3:48Speaker 3: them inspiration, and they had it.
- 3:52Speaker 1: It was a mirror image, Jay, now it worked out
- 3:54Speaker 1: for your team, of what happened in Florida State and Louisville.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Florida State, everything's rolling their way. Everything's going their way.
- 4:01Speaker 1: They're stopping them on defense. They can't be stopped on offense,
- 4:04Speaker 1: and one thing goes wrong. and Florida state crater. Now
- 4:07Speaker 1: to Tennessee's credit, they responded. And I think that's kind
- 4:10Speaker 1: of the takeaway is it would not have surprised anybody
- 4:14Speaker 1: from a big picture. It would have, but just anybody
- 4:16Speaker 1: who's watched football understands, man, when something goes wrong for
- 4:19Speaker 1: the other team, and it was a lot later in
- 4:21Speaker 1: the game that happened in the third quarter, when, when
- 4:24Speaker 1: Tennessee was going into their shell or whatever was happening
- 4:29Speaker 1: there on defense and the offense was struggling, didn't have
- 4:31Speaker 1: a great game. Um, If Arkansas would have won that game,
- 4:34Speaker 1: you just said, yeah, that was the moment that it
- 4:36Speaker 1: all changed. But Tennessee did respond really, really well and
- 4:39Speaker 1: has played well outside of that. Hey, guys, I will
- 4:41Speaker 1: get right back to the video, but first I want
- 4:42Speaker 1: to tell you about our friends over at Alumni Hall.
- 4:44Speaker 1: You guys have been using the code like crazy. They've
- 4:46Speaker 1: been telling me you guys have been using it, and

- 5:11Speaker 2: We appreciate Alumni Hall for their support. Now back to
- 5:13Speaker 2: the video.
- 5:14Speaker 1: You look at this Bama game, and you think about,
- 5:17Speaker 1: I talked about it a lot on your show, but
- 5:20Speaker 1: the quarterback matchup is the most interesting thing about this
- 5:23Speaker 1: to me. I think Tennessee has a lot of things
- 5:25Speaker 1: that they have going for it, running game, defense, offensive line,
- 5:28Speaker 1: What I do worry about is how does McIntyre play
- 5:33Speaker 1: in this game against a Bama defense that can get got.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Ashley Nails threw for 377 yards against them, but certainly
- 5:41Speaker 1: a defense that's more talented than Arkansas's.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Yeah, it's definitely going to be the quarterback situation. Jim,
- 5:48Speaker 3: I will say this.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Getting Jim Knowles was just one of the best things
- 5:52Speaker 4: ever for Tennessee because I think had we had our
- 5:55Speaker 4: defense last year, that game, we'd lose to Arkansas.
- 5:58Speaker 3: But Knowles, he's had.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Some moments with the defense where they've struggled, and then
- 6:02Speaker 4: he kind of figures it out. And that's happened a
- 6:04Speaker 4: couple times this year. And now that I've seen it
- 6:07Speaker 4: multiple times, I'm like, this guy's really good.
- 6:11Speaker 3: He knows what he's doing.
- 6:12Speaker 4: He brought in some quality players that he knew could play.
- 6:16Speaker 4: We did have– look, had Chaz Coleman worked out, if
- 6:20Speaker 4: we'd have had a $ 2 million edge guy that had six,
- 6:23Speaker 4: seven sacks right now, our defense would probably be top five.
- 6:26Speaker 4: instead of top 20, which it is right now. So
- 6:30Speaker 4: Jim Knowles played a huge role in that. Quarterback situation,
- 6:32Speaker 4: like I said, that's what everybody's talking about because it's
- 6:36Speaker 4: by far the most important position. And one team is
- 6:39Speaker 4: hot at the quarterback position. Another team is in between court.
- 6:43Speaker 3: We're not sure.
- 6:44Speaker 4: I know George McIntyre is going to start. I don't
- 6:47Speaker 4: care what Josh Heupel says. He's obviously going to start.
- 6:50Speaker 4: The other quarterback is not seeing the field. He's got
- 6:52Speaker 4: an a shoulder issue as well, where he got hurt
- 6:56Speaker 4: in the Texas game. So he was under emergency situation
- 7:00Speaker 4: only last game. So that tells me he's probably not
- 7:04Speaker 4: going to play in this. I wouldn't, unless George gets hurt.
- 7:08Speaker 4: And then it's not like we've got some big time
- 7:12Speaker 4: guy in the back, as far as a backup, like
- 7:16Speaker 4: Alabama's got Austin Mack, who's a senior and has been
- 7:20Speaker 4: with Kalen DeBoer from day one since Washington.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:24Speaker 4: They've got a backup that's played and ready to go.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Tennessee has got two freshmen, and you're just sitting here going,
- 7:33Speaker 4: things could have been different had that judge said, I'll
- 7:35Speaker 4: allow it.
- 7:37Speaker 2: It would have been nice.
- 7:40Speaker 1: To get what so many other programs got in this
- 7:43Speaker 1: country by getting people back and, you know, unfortunately just
- 7:47Speaker 1: did not go their way. Do you think– I mean,
- 7:50Speaker 1: you talked about this on your show a little bit,
- 7:52Speaker 1: but I like the way that McIntyre just goes into
- 7:59Speaker 1: the game. Like, I like the way he looks out there.
- 8:03Speaker 1: And I thought Faison had that look mostly through the
- 8:06Speaker 1: first three games. I don't know if it was the
- 8:08Speaker 1: injury or just the Texas defense or what. I don't
- 8:11Speaker 1: know why they ran him back out there against Auburn
- 8:13Speaker 1: if the injury was a thing. But I just think
- 8:18Speaker 1: that McIntyre looks like he has a lot more confidence
- 8:20Speaker 1: right now, even if Faison was fully healthy.
- 8:23Speaker 4: You know, I watched him in fall camp and also spring,
- 8:27Speaker 4: what we could watch of it. And one thing that
- 8:30Speaker 4: I noticed about McIntyre, he was very accurate, I thought.
- 8:36Speaker 4: Now there was, you know, words that he turns the
- 8:38Speaker 4: ball over a little too much, which, you know, we've
- 8:41Speaker 4: already seen a couple of those.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Maybe that's the case. But every time he threw the ball,
- 8:45Speaker 3: it was either in the guy's hands or real close.
- 8:48Speaker 4: And occasionally I'd see Faison who he's electric with his legs.
- 8:51Speaker 4: I mean, the guy can run great, but he would
- 8:54Speaker 4: occasionally miss guys. And, you know, which doesn't surprise me.
- 8:58Speaker 4: McIntyre's a pocket passer who can run. Whereas, you know,
- 9:03Speaker 4: Faison is definitely a dual threat guy.
- 9:06Speaker 3: He can do both.
- 9:07Speaker 4: So it doesn't surprise me that he's a little bit
- 9:10Speaker 4: more accurate. And plus this is his second year. Granted,
- 9:13Speaker 4: he played no, significant snaps last year. I mean, when
- 9:17Speaker 4: I'm talking zero significant snaps, but he has been in
- 9:21Speaker 4: the system for a year. So he should be more
- 9:23Speaker 4: comfortable with this hypo offense and knowing where to go
- 9:27Speaker 4: with the ball earlier and what to expect. I think
- 9:31Speaker 4: his big thing is experience and nerves because you're not.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Used to it. And Joey was on his seventh year.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Good grief. You couldn't make him uncomfortable. Yeah.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I I have some confidence that Tennessee can run the
- 9:48Speaker 1: ball against Bama, which would be McIntyre's best friend, obviously,
- 9:51Speaker 1: if that can happen. But you saw Georgia's third string
- 9:55Speaker 1: running back kind of go off. Now it is Georgia,
- 9:57Speaker 1: and I get it. But I think that... Bishop can
- 10:00Speaker 1: have himself a day here. Now, can he carry the
- 10:02Speaker 1: whole thing if they stack the box and say we're
- 10:05Speaker 1: going to let McIntyre beat us?
- 10:07Speaker 2: Then probably not. But I think if some things go right,
- 10:12Speaker 2: I think Bishop can have a day. I think the
- 10:14Speaker 2: running backs can have a good day.
- 10:16Speaker 4: They're going to do everything they can to stop the
- 10:18Speaker 4: run against us. I fully expect them to take seven,
- 10:22Speaker 4: eight guys in the box and force George McIntyre.
- 10:25Speaker 3: To beat them.
- 10:26Speaker 4: And then they're going to bait him. They're going to
- 10:28Speaker 4: bait and switch him all over the place. And that's
- 10:31Speaker 4: what Alabama loves to do. They're all about the quick turnover,
- 10:36Speaker 4: the flip in the field. They're masters of it. They bend,
- 10:40Speaker 4: don't break type of talent back there. And they've, of course,
- 10:45Speaker 4: Alabama's got a ton of talent. They maybe spent a
- 10:49Speaker 4: similar amount of money on NIL, but I'm telling you,
- 10:52Speaker 4: they get the Alabama discount similar to Georgia because they've
- 10:56Speaker 4: got that big name and all those natties.
- 10:59Speaker 3: And they've, you know, crap.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Kalen DeBoer is an excellent coach. I know Bama gets
- 11:03Speaker 4: down on him because he's not Nick Saban. Dude's won
- 11:06Speaker 4: a ton of games. I mean, he's won a lot
- 11:08Speaker 4: of games.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I agree. I think they're a little too
- 11:11Speaker 2: hard on him at times. I think he is a
- 11:13Speaker 2: good coach.
- 11:15Speaker 1: And I think that comparing anyone to Saban's peak is
- 11:19Speaker 1: a fool's errand. I'll tell you, I told somebody else,
- 11:23Speaker 1: they don't even compare DeBoer to the end of Saban
- 11:28Speaker 1: because he's basically done what the end of Saban did.
- 11:32Speaker 1: They're comparing DeBoer to 2012 and 2009 and 2015. They're
- 11:34Speaker 1: not even giving this guy a fair shake. They're comparing
- 11:42Speaker 1: him to Saban's peak. He's basically done what Saban has
- 11:45Speaker 1: done at the last few years of Saban.
- 11:49Speaker 3: We all do.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Every fan base does that. Look at what FSU is doing.
- 11:53Speaker 4: They're comparing him to Bowden. And, of course, Tennessee is
- 11:57Speaker 4: comparing our guy, Heupel, to our national championship year. It's
- 12:03Speaker 4: like everybody wants to remember the very top, and they
- 12:06Speaker 4: never want to remember the down times.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Uh, it, it makes sense, but yeah, they don't give
- 12:12Speaker 1: him the fair shake. I do wonder a little bit
- 12:16Speaker 1: with this matchup, just how you kind of see it
- 12:20Speaker 1: because Tennessee's defense has been really good. Russell's really good.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Can they, can they limit him in the way that
- 12:28Speaker 1: Georgia's defense did? Because Georgia's defense held him to what
- 12:31Speaker 1: it was. It was a 2017 was a final there.
- 12:32Speaker 4: Um, Yeah, they did a great job against him, better
- 12:37Speaker 4: than anybody else has.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Yeah, everybody else, he's gone absolutely berserk. Yeah, 20-17.
- 12:42Speaker 1: If you told me right now that Tennessee's defense could
- 12:44Speaker 1: keep them to 17 points, I might like Tennessee's odds
- 12:48Speaker 1: in this. Now, that's a tall task. That's a lot
- 12:50Speaker 1: easier said than done. But thoughts around the defense playing
- 12:53Speaker 1: this week?
- 12:54Speaker 4: I think they'll play well in the first half, I
- 12:56Speaker 4: would expect. Keelan, he's going to be difficult. Because even
- 13:00Speaker 4: if you stop him, that third down and five, He's
- 13:04Speaker 4: going to run on you and just get it and
- 13:06Speaker 4: gut you. That's my biggest concern is Keelan. But with
- 13:12Speaker 4: a Jim Knowles defense, I think we'll play pretty well.
- 13:14Speaker 4: I think we'll stay in the game unless we turn the,
- 13:18Speaker 4: if we start turning the ball over or we start
- 13:20Speaker 4: doing a bunch of three and outs and George gets rattled,
- 13:22Speaker 4: maybe they get to him and start sacking him.
- 13:25Speaker 3: That's when I would be concerned. This is a.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Game that with the kneeling magic, if the turnovers go
- 13:32Speaker 4: our way, If we're in it in the fourth quarter,
- 13:35Speaker 4: anything can happen.
- 13:36Speaker 3: We could win that ballgame.
- 13:37Speaker 4: I think it's– we've got about probably a 25% chance of.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Winning this game.
- 13:45Speaker 2: I hate to ask you to do this, but I'm
- 13:47Speaker 2: going to make you pick it. Give me a pick
- 13:48Speaker 2: in this one.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Picking the game? Yeah. Score-wise or just pick it away?
- 13:54Speaker 2: Let me have a score from you.
- 13:56Speaker 4: Ah.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Damn.
- 14:01Speaker 4: This is– I don't know that I– Let's see here.
- 14:09Speaker 3: Do you see this? And you want me to pick
- 14:12Speaker 3: against my team? Do you really want that?
- 14:15Speaker 2: I don't.
- 14:16Speaker 3: I refuse. No, I'm not going to do it. I
- 14:19Speaker 3: don't want to.
- 14:20Speaker 4: That would probably give you an idea of what I
- 14:22Speaker 4: think the score is going to be.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Where can people follow you? Where can they find everything
- 14:28Speaker 2: you've got going on?
- 14:29Speaker 3: Just Sports Talk J on YouTube. Everybody knows that, watches this.

- 14:44Speaker 2: Appreciate you, bud.
- 14:44Speaker 3: All right.
