A 53-year-old man, David Koepke, faces second-degree murder charges after shooting his 68-year-old ex-girlfriend, Yvette Appleby, during a heated argument in Peoria. Koepke, who admitted to drinking 8-10 beers that day, called 911 himself and surrendered peacefully when police arrived. He claimed he fired three shots while she was turned away, though five casings were found. Appleby died from multiple torso wounds.
