[SPEAKER_00]: That's me, Kyle Meredith today, catching up with peaches.
• 1:30
[SPEAKER_00]: It's been about a decade, and she's released a new music, but she's back with no loob so rude.
• 1:36
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk about how a world getting more polarized, pushed her back in a new music while menopause and aging and sexuality and then eat for some actual communication.
• 1:45
[SPEAKER_00]: That's all found her way into the songs.
• 1:48
[SPEAKER_00]: She's also going to talk about growing older alongside the fans who first found her 25 years ago.
• 1:54
[SPEAKER_00]: The wild public reactions to political drag art is Jenna Marvin while filming the
• 2:00
[SPEAKER_00]: in Paris and in turning old opera costumes into something much stranger for her new live show.
• 2:07
[SPEAKER_00]: All that's and a whole lot more let's talk no loob so rude it's Kyle Meredith with peaches.
• 2:14
[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, no lobes so rude.
• 2:16
[SPEAKER_00]: It's so great to have new music from you again, and it's been a while you've still been busy.
• 2:21
[SPEAKER_00]: This is not the why the why has it been a decade or whatever like that because you've been so artistically busy over these past few years.
• 2:29
[SPEAKER_00]: But it is like it's so great to have new music from you.
• 2:31
[SPEAKER_00]: So when when when did the album start to come into focus when did you say, Okay, now it is time for this this record to happen.
• 2:38
[SPEAKER_02]: Just like, probably like a year and a half ago, it was just like more and more feeling the intensity of how the world is shifting.
• 2:48
[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, I mean, it's not nothing new.
• 2:50
[SPEAKER_02]: It's always been in the background, but somehow,
• 2:55
[SPEAKER_02]: We convinced ourselves that things were going in our way, but now we know things always go in a curve up and down.
• 3:03
[SPEAKER_02]: And there's a lot of work always to be done.
• 3:05
[SPEAKER_02]: And we have to really, you know, I want to.
• 3:11
[SPEAKER_02]: should be involved, I need to be part of the world in this way.
• 3:15
[SPEAKER_02]: Of course, my music has always spoken to, you know, human rights, basically, but to have new material and to be able to go out on the road and to
• 3:32
[SPEAKER_02]: get there, you know, inject the power, inject the force, and feel the force of everyone else, and, you know, have the discussions.
• 3:43
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
• 3:44
[SPEAKER_00]: Is that, you know, for the writing side of you, like, is that the most important thing, like, do you, it sounds very obvious, but I'm going to ask anyway, do you have to have something to say to be able to write a song?
• 3:56
  [SPEAKER_02]: I do.
• 3:56
  [SPEAKER_02]: I do.
• 3:57
[SPEAKER_02]: It's very important to me.
• 3:59
[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like a lot of the times I'm reacting to the politicized world that's going on to the absurd world.
• 4:08
[SPEAKER_02]: People call me political and absurd in my way of presentation and that's just a reaction to how things are politicized and how absurd they are.
• 4:21
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's interesting though because you're kind of hitting on like expectations of what Peter's is, you know, like, for like, do you feel like you have to play into, I feel like calling it a character really demeans it in a way, because I don't feel like it is a character, you know, for my point of view, but, but there are the expectations of what a Peter's record would sound like, you know, that how you do filter these politics sounds.
• 4:42
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, do you feel like you have to, you know, arrive at that to lean into that?
• 4:46
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I feel like that is my that's my way that's that's my way of doing it.
• 4:51
[SPEAKER_02]: I like to as you say filter it.
• 4:55
[SPEAKER_02]: I filter it in a way where I make things more absurd to show that
• 5:02
[SPEAKER_02]: you know that saying that reality is stranger than fiction.
• 5:06
[SPEAKER_02]: So you understand that it doesn't just come from a fantastical escapism view.
• 5:12
[SPEAKER_02]: It's from the ground of what is going on.
• 5:15
[SPEAKER_02]: And so I mean it features is obviously an extension of me on stage because you know it's also a performance since also a presentation.
• 5:29
[SPEAKER_02]: It's not a conversation like you and I are having
• 5:32
[SPEAKER_02]: So, by virtue of its medium, its presentation, there is a form of, you could say, character, you know.
• 5:43
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I love the way you do it.
• 5:44
[SPEAKER_00]: And what you're talking about, I mean, you're using that word communication.
• 5:46
  [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's what I read.
• 5:47
[SPEAKER_00]: Like when you're talking about Lube.
• 5:49
[SPEAKER_00]: like in this title, like that's it, right?
• 5:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Lou, Lou is the communication, like, like, like, how does that part of, yeah?
• 5:55
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, on an intimate sexual level and on a peaches what you expect level, you think about Lou and I think about it as like, it's so important for everybody to have that even with casual partners, because that's gonna bring more pleasure and enjoyment
• 6:18
[SPEAKER_02]: Just go to another level and be more smooth and get to get more pleasure for everybody.
• 6:25
[SPEAKER_02]: And then you think about it as a menopausal woman.
• 6:27
[SPEAKER_02]: You think you're dried up, you can't get involved, blah, blah, blah.
• 6:31
  [SPEAKER_02]: But Luke changes that.
• 6:32
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's not just for gay men who forgot their poppers.
• 6:37
[SPEAKER_02]: you know, but there's it's very important for everybody and if you don't bring the loop that's so rude in the same way as you thought about a condom or a dental dam or you know, things like that.
• 6:50
[SPEAKER_02]: And on a, you know, more humanistic global communication level, if we had some sort of magical loop to help us understand each other or not these have such friction when we're talking.
• 7:04
[SPEAKER_00]: Do you feel like, and we all, you know, we develop as humans.
• 7:07
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's, there's, I expect that in all of us, too, but, but do you find like, when you, the way that you would approach this 25 years ago is different as like the provocateur, you know, like, like, here's what it is versus what it sounds like this, like, like, like, hey, we've got to find out agreements, like that feels like a different part of the conversation that's changed.
• 7:28
  [SPEAKER_02]: It does.
• 7:29
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I feel like before I felt more like me versus then.
• 7:33
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so very scrappy, also because of the reactions in the polarization in terms of like people try to understand me.
• 7:40
[SPEAKER_02]: And now it's like, oh, it's just got to all try and get an understanding, but fight keep that fight.
• 7:48
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, just take a quick pause here to let you know, remind you really that if you if you like what you're hearing right now the best thing you could do the best possible thing that you could do for me is to just to hit that subscribe button it helps so much and will be right back right after this.
• 8:04
  [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back.
• 8:05
[SPEAKER_00]: It's Kyle Meredith with peaches.
• 8:08
[SPEAKER_00]: How's that message changed with different generations and you talked about another interviews to because it's like the conversation has kind of caught up to that that early version of peaches now.
• 8:17
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I think intergenerational conversation is so important and it's not easy, you know?
• 8:24
[SPEAKER_02]: It's because you come from certain waves of understanding politically or in terms of like sexual gender or politics or bodily autonomy, you know, and where it started and what you fought for.
• 8:42
[SPEAKER_02]: And now in these generations, it's, you know,
• 8:46
[SPEAKER_02]: It's involved in ways and the communication or the vocabulary has evolved, but the acceptance of who came before sometimes is very difficult for younger people to accept instead of just saying, no, I'm not going with them because maybe certain words they've said before, but
• 9:08
[SPEAKER_02]: We really have to understand where people came from.
• 9:11
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not excusing anybody for any terminology.
• 9:14
[SPEAKER_02]: And if people aren't growing constantly, then that's also forget it.
• 9:20
[SPEAKER_02]: But we have to come together and understand, you know, it's different.
• 9:24
[SPEAKER_02]: You feel different when you're younger and when you're older, but you know, you will become older.
• 9:29
[SPEAKER_02]: Then understand that older people have been younger, but also older people have not been younger in this time.
• 9:35
[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a lot to learn from both ends.
• 9:38
[SPEAKER_02]: did that change at all how you when you when you start writing the record, what did you find that that like you had to think about that any extra I think no it was more musically what I love about what I mean what I do like about what's going on in music is that it's not at this purest thing anymore like if you look at people just like you could have a highly
• 10:03
[SPEAKER_02]: super sweet pop song with like a metal solo in between or like, you know, you look at hyper pop or you look at any people don't care.
• 10:13
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just mix it all up just the way you want because there's so much and I'm sure that some purists, old school people are like, you know, I'm not, I'm not having that, but I think it's very healthy because that's how it is.
• 10:26
[SPEAKER_02]: So it gave me freedom even more freedom to
• 10:30
[SPEAKER_02]: to explore musically, thinking about younger generations and how they hear music.
• 10:35
[SPEAKER_00]: And it is that, like we even touched on that, but the music on this, like it's what a more maximalist approach.
• 10:41
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's also a term that's been thrown around a little bit out there and listening to it.
• 10:44
  [SPEAKER_00]: Like it is agree.
• 10:45
[SPEAKER_00]: Like there is a wider scope sound that you got to explore on this record.
• 10:48
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I wouldn't say it's maximal.
• 10:50
[SPEAKER_02]: I definitely, you know, we definitely cut, cut all the time to make sure it's still got that, like, in the way of, like, directness, but yeah, I'm very proud of the production on it.
• 11:03
  [SPEAKER_00]: It's fun.
• 11:04
  [SPEAKER_00]: It's fun.
• 11:05
[SPEAKER_00]: It's fun to hear the journey across the record, too.
• 11:07
[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know if you, like, you know, because musically, to me, it seems like, oh, this could have been constructed.
• 11:14
[SPEAKER_00]: based on the music where the songs go and everything because it just it's got a great flow.
• 11:19
[SPEAKER_00]: But literally, you know, like starting with with with the hanging titties and ending with be love.
• 11:25
[SPEAKER_00]: Like are those bookended purposefully?
• 11:29
  [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, definitely.
• 11:29
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you're like ready.
• 11:32
[SPEAKER_02]: If the first song is like, here we go.
• 11:34
  [SPEAKER_02]: Let's go.
• 11:35
[SPEAKER_02]: All out, I guess you can bleed words or whatever.
• 11:38
  [SPEAKER_02]: You don't need to, I don't know.
• 11:40
[SPEAKER_02]: But all out, I am contented in you and older than you, I'm like, to sing lower than you, and you love it.
• 11:46
  [SPEAKER_02]: And you're like, okay, I'm in, let's go.
• 11:48
[SPEAKER_02]: And then you go through the journey.
• 11:49
[SPEAKER_02]: And you also realize that you need it through love and that there's also vulnerability, but power in that.
• 11:55
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, it's, it's, and you know, and then just piggyback and two off that because of the hanging titties, I mean, you're talking about menopause and postmenopause in this song, in this such a fun way, but like, and maybe you're, you know, I'm asking to repeat yourself here too, but like, how do you talk about that in a song?
• 12:12
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what is it you want to say?
• 12:14
[SPEAKER_02]: I want to say that, you know, there's been years and years of misunderstanding, even for the women of that age to understand how to deal with their own menopausal, you know, disappearingness and like shrinking it.
• 12:32
[SPEAKER_02]: and the shame of all, you know, and there shouldn't be shame around that and them also people are living longer so their, you know, life is extending so if people think that life is over at 50 or 60 you're going to have like you might have like 40 more years to go so we have to start thinking of of those other, you know, quarters of our lives and how we
• 13:00
[SPEAKER_02]: as you say, not in your mouth, no your business, lay down and die.
• 13:03
[SPEAKER_02]: And also because I've been doing this for 26 years, of course, I'm going to have older friends and it's so cool for not to just be an astounded trip for them.
• 13:12
[SPEAKER_02]: Like I remember when I used to love this song in university, you know, now it's also speaking to them as their age, like fuck yeah, I'm growing up with that, but also.
• 13:24
[SPEAKER_02]: There are those songs that, you know, people coming of age, those songs like the Peyton Way Boys wanna be here are those very coming of age songs.
• 13:34
[SPEAKER_02]: Classics, how incredible is it like I'm so grateful life, classics.
• 13:39
[SPEAKER_00]: is you do you see I mean you you come off this album with just having done that to a right the teaches anniversary to her like like like like that was sort of the timeline right like the did you find like does that give something to this record you know because it feels like it would be possible not to.
• 13:56
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the teaches at Peach's tour was phenomenal, and it really, I mean, cemented the sort of celebration and the, you know, after the last five albums that I did, which were great.
• 14:11
[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, the teaches at Peach's anniversary tour really brought it together as the younger and the older generation and like, okay, let's go.
• 14:18
  [SPEAKER_02]: What's in the future?
• 14:19
[SPEAKER_00]: Just to see what you've done, what you mean, you know, to pop culture, I mean, to all of it.
• 14:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, just take a quick pause here to, to let, you know, remind you really that if you if you like what you're hearing right now the best thing you could do the best possible thing that you could do for me is just to hit that subscribe button and helps so much and will be right back right after this.
• 14:42
  [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back.
• 14:43
[SPEAKER_00]: It's Kyle Meredith with peaches.
• 14:46
[SPEAKER_00]: And then, and I want to hit a one more song because you're all right.
• 14:49
[SPEAKER_00]: And it was a new single you've got this great new video out.
• 14:52
[SPEAKER_00]: There's the remix, like pixel grip remakes.
• 14:55
  [SPEAKER_02]: No video.
• 14:56
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the video is this.
• 14:57
  [SPEAKER_00]: Did you?
• 14:58
  [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, sorry.
• 14:58
  [SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no.
• 14:59
[SPEAKER_00]: I was just mentioning it.
• 15:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Who's on the remix, too?
• 15:01
[SPEAKER_00]: But that video, I would love to hear about creating this because.
• 15:05
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, so the video is phenomenal because there is, um, you know, Agnea who directed this directed this incredible documentary of her friend, Jenna.
• 15:18
[SPEAKER_02]: Jenna is a political drag performer from Russia.
• 15:21
  [SPEAKER_02]: They're both from Russia.
• 15:23
[SPEAKER_02]: And Jenna would do these extensive
• 15:26
[SPEAKER_02]: really elaborate public displays of a drag performance, which obviously is hugely dangerous in Russia, and but really needed to do it and Agnea documented this, and I urge everybody to see the
• 15:55
[SPEAKER_02]: had this incredible documentary company, and unfortunately she died of brain cancer, and we met at her memorial and really connected as friends, and also Jenna and I was such fans of each other's work.
• 16:09
[SPEAKER_02]: So we all decided to work together.
• 16:11
[SPEAKER_02]: And we used Jenna's sort of,
• 16:15
[SPEAKER_02]: her practice of the costumes which she just like red tapes herself these costumes you can't get out of it if you have to go to the bathroom forget it if you want to use your hands forget it but so it's showing this like a pression but also expression at the same time and it's also dealing with the demons inside you which deals with them so I feel like Agnea brilliantly woven all together and yeah the video is amazing
• 16:41
[SPEAKER_02]: And then the remix, we asked Joe to tell it from idols to add a vocal line and it's a really cool vocal line and he was like really excited to do it and then pitch some grip who were
• 16:58
[SPEAKER_02]: opening on our first American tour.
• 17:00
[SPEAKER_02]: We asked them to do a remix and then thought, is it be cool to get it all together as one piece?
• 17:06
[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it just sounds amazing.
• 17:09
[SPEAKER_02]: It's really the pixel-griped it in a credible job.
• 17:13
[SPEAKER_02]: Joe made a great line.
• 17:14
[SPEAKER_02]: The song is already cool.
• 17:16
[SPEAKER_02]: So I feel like this could be a really good track for radio for everywhere.
• 17:22
  [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
• 17:23
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's
• 17:24
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's rare, like you have great remixes that just like, oh, this is cool, but it's rare to have a remix that actually takes it further that adds something, you know, to get there for it.
• 17:33
[SPEAKER_02]: It just feels like a new song.
• 17:35
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
• 17:35
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
• 17:36
[SPEAKER_00]: And I do, I love that video and the chase scenes and just watching you and of course the, you know, but I was watching it a second time and I thought,
• 17:45
[SPEAKER_00]: but this wasn't a close set because you see some pastors buying the background that just had this looks on their faces.
• 17:51
[SPEAKER_02]: No, actually of course we didn't have budget for like close set or anything like that or nor did we want it.
• 17:56
[SPEAKER_02]: But it was really incredible.
• 17:57
[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like you could have made a documentary about people's reactions.
• 18:02
[SPEAKER_02]: to Jenna in this whole situation, especially because we were at a kind of rough metro station, and people were actually really, really, they were kind of bitter about Jenna, some people, they were trying to trip her or badmouth, badmouth, and then we'd go to another section in the same neighborhood, and people would be following and loving Jenna being like, you are so beautiful,
• 18:29
[SPEAKER_02]: to make this video in different, this was in Paris, but to make it in different cities like Washington, D.C., you'd probably get like five seconds and they shut it down, or in London, or Berlin, or somewhere in Canada, just to see the different reactions, but the phones coming up for videoing were at a hand, thank you.
• 18:53
  [SPEAKER_02]: as wild.
• 18:54
[SPEAKER_00]: If you really cool experiment, you're right to try to do something sort of worldwide like that.
• 18:59
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
• 19:00
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
• 19:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Well speaking of a dream and things up and everything, I hate a live show real quick because because here you are, you're not just the artist, you're simultaneously the director, you're part of the designer of this, like seeing the images that I've seen of you out there, like what did you want to, so here's the album.
• 19:18
  [SPEAKER_00]: Like, what happens?
• 19:19
[SPEAKER_00]: What did you want to dream up for how this is represented on the stage?
• 19:22
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
• 19:23
  [SPEAKER_02]: So, I do have, I don't have a team.
• 19:27
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not like, it's like, I, you know, I worked with the squirt deluxe on the album when we, you know, they produced it and we like to say their
• 19:43
[SPEAKER_02]: the synography and the overview, these turning lights, this modular stages, you know, bringing their performative practices to my more theatrical behavioral prank practices.
• 19:59
[SPEAKER_02]: So it was a really good collaboration in that way that we built together.
• 20:03
[SPEAKER_02]: And also we bought a lot of opera costumes from an opera sale.
• 20:09
[SPEAKER_02]: and Charlie Limitou, who I've known since he was 16, he's a hair stylist, but he also makes hair fashion.
• 20:14
[SPEAKER_02]: He's worked worldwide with everybody, blah, blah, blah, but he took, he came home for a week.
• 20:19
[SPEAKER_02]: We bought three sewing machines.
• 20:21
[SPEAKER_02]: He had two assistants and he flipped those opera costumes into making them peach-ified, putting hair in more twisting, non-strange leaks.
• 20:31
  [SPEAKER_02]: And, um,
• 20:32
[SPEAKER_02]: So, so I've had the most consideration in the costumes ever, the most consideration for the stage.
• 20:39
[SPEAKER_02]: I have two incredible dancers who just have like collaborated and brought such incredible energy.
• 20:51
[SPEAKER_02]: So, it's just a great team and it's very small team, but we bring a lot.
• 20:56
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
• 20:57
[SPEAKER_02]: images look great on you're going to be here in the little uh... monday you know going from europe to the uh... to the uh... two of those yeah good to have you back there with all once at some but uh... barbecue restaurant where they like moved the chairs and then i played you know moved the tables and chairs are right and that's that that's your little play right there so they like that and then i played in the lexington can tacky at a yoga center
• 21:23
[SPEAKER_00]: It'd be nice to have you in a big ol' amphitheater this time, at the end of the year.
• 21:27
  [SPEAKER_02]: I'm excited, I'm excited, yeah.
• 21:30
[SPEAKER_00]: And then I also saw, because talking about, you know, Tommy working out, you're doing a show with Robin, who's got her own existential album.
• 21:38
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that seems like, man, both of you guys are, you to find someone like that that's sort of hitting on the same level of the message and everything.
• 21:46
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm guessing maybe that's why that worked out.
• 21:49
[SPEAKER_02]: I think what Robin's doing, which is great is she's just having a different person open for her every night, giving chances to people with their same, you know, or same musical love or or ideologies, which is so cool, you know, like,
• 22:05
[SPEAKER_02]: That's a big, you know, for such a huge show that she's doing to have a different open every night, it's more work, you know, for Robin.
• 22:15
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's really special that she's doing that.
• 22:19
[SPEAKER_02]: I personally have one act opening for the whole,
• 22:25
[SPEAKER_02]: the whole tour, which is wheelchair sports camp, who are incredible.
• 22:29
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, also at the end of the tour, Mucho's problemos will join us, which is Charlie Nomen do my costume designer, hair person, who is incredible, bringing them really dark punk, dark room, electoral vibes.
• 22:47
  [SPEAKER_02]: So,
• 22:48

• 23:09
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, maybe this is still taking all of your, you know, all of your
• 23:16
[SPEAKER_00]: Like in the in the art world right now.
• 23:20
[SPEAKER_02]: I am working on in, you know, deep in this album.
• 23:26
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this is it.
• 23:27
[SPEAKER_00]: This is what I'm thinking right here.
• 23:28
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 23:29
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I guess some people have time to make music and do it right now.
• 23:32
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just this is what we're doing, you know, and that's that's I think it'll be probably going on for another year.
