- 2:02Speaker 3: Hey everyone, it's a Tuesday night, and I am here
- 2:06Speaker 3: again with the new author, with the new book, and
- 2:12Speaker 3: this one, I know it's going to hit a little
- 2:15Speaker 3: home because it's poetry, and you know, poetry is it's
- 2:19Speaker 3: something to make you feel good. It's something to help
- 2:21Speaker 3: you get those emotions out, you know, like like poetry
- 2:27Speaker 3: you can kind of call the purge, you know. And
- 2:30Speaker 3: the reason why I say that if you get all
- 2:32Speaker 3: these thoughts out on the paper and then you feel
- 2:35Speaker 3: better sometimes depending on how you're doing it. But I
- 2:40Speaker 3: have a new author, Okay, you guys. It's wonderful. And
- 2:43Speaker 3: I love when authors reach out to me after I
- 2:47Speaker 3: put the call out, and she was one of those
- 2:49Speaker 3: ones that reach out to me. So tonight we're gonna
- 2:53Speaker 3: talk about a book entitled Can't Handle Failure, and we
- 2:59Speaker 3: are going to be talking to author poet Stevens. Okay,
- 3:03Speaker 3: So we're gonna bring this lady out and we're gonna
- 3:05Speaker 3: welcome her to sc bookels and friends. Come on up, girly,
- 3:10Speaker 3: how are you?
- 3:14Speaker 1: I'm fine, how are you?
- 3:16Speaker 3: I am grave? So welcome, welcome, welcome, and we are
- 3:23Speaker 3: so honored to have you here tonight with this beautiful
- 3:27Speaker 3: book that is on that side. Y'all, I got it
- 3:30Speaker 3: right for the first time, can you believe it? So
- 3:35Speaker 3: we're gonna jump right into this, but a full any further,
- 3:40Speaker 3: tell us a little bit about yourself.
- 3:44Speaker 4: I'm a mother, I'm a CNA. I'm going to school
- 3:48Speaker 4: to be an LPN. I'm a poetry writer. I've just
- 3:53Speaker 4: finished my first short story book, and that.
- 3:58Speaker 5: Should because.
- 4:01Speaker 4: I do everything because the sky is the limit, and
- 4:05Speaker 4: can't nobody tell me I.
- 4:06Speaker 5: Can't do it.
- 4:09Speaker 3: You need depend that the sky is the limit, and
- 4:12Speaker 3: nobody can't tell me I can't do it. First of all,
- 4:17Speaker 3: my hat goes off to you being a mother and
- 4:22Speaker 3: you in school with that in word that's called nursing.
- 4:28Speaker 3: My hat is off to you, sweetheart, and you're writing books.
- 4:34Speaker 3: How old is your little person?
- 4:38Speaker 4: My youngest is one going on too. My oldest is
- 4:42Speaker 4: twenty two.
- 4:44Speaker 5: Ooo. Again, I believe I could do anything, and I.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Believe I want the big family.
- 4:50Speaker 4: So I have a big family. I have seven beautiful children.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Seven So what are ages? So we got twenty two.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Or we have a twenty one?
- 5:04Speaker 4: I have a nineteen going on twenty. I have an
- 5:08Speaker 4: eighteen fourteen, then the baby, and then I have my
- 5:12Speaker 4: adopted chiald, which is mine. So you can't tell me
- 5:15Speaker 4: she ain't mine.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Okay, now I'm sorry, you can tell me. I'm not
- 5:22Speaker 3: gonna ask answer that question. But you look so young.
- 5:29Speaker 3: You have this baby faced, beautiful smile with the cheeks.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Can I ask how old you are?
- 5:38Speaker 1: Believe it or not?
- 5:40Speaker 5: I feel like I'm thirty nine going on eighty.
- 5:44Speaker 1: What you will, girl?
- 5:47Speaker 3: Why you feel like you're going on eighty?
- 5:51Speaker 4: The knowledge I acquired in the years, I feel like
- 5:55Speaker 4: I acquired it a little late.
- 5:57Speaker 5: But then most of.
- 5:58Speaker 4: It that I knew, I just wanted to ignore it.
- 6:01Speaker 4: And that old lady is with the talking and when
- 6:04Speaker 4: things didn't go right, you know how the old people say,
- 6:07Speaker 4: you got to go to that prayer closet. So I
- 6:09Speaker 4: had to go to that closet. I'm an old lady.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Ain't nothing wrong with it, that closet, And you guys,
- 6:19Speaker 3: it's not always a closet. But we called our prayer, closet,
- 6:22Speaker 3: my closet, across my bed, and in my bathroom where's yours.
- 6:30Speaker 5: Mine is my vehicle.
- 6:31Speaker 4: It's the only place that I find peace because it
- 6:35Speaker 4: takes me an hour and fifteen minutes to drive the work,
- 6:38Speaker 4: and it takes me an hour and twenty minutes to
- 6:41Speaker 4: drive back.
- 6:42Speaker 5: And in that time I can find all the piece
- 6:45Speaker 5: I need.
- 6:45Speaker 4: We can have all the conversations, no interruptions, no phone calls.
- 6:49Speaker 5: Just me and my closet.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Yo, that is what's up. Yes, mama, your traffics sound
- 6:58Speaker 3: like my traffic here in Charleston. So tell us a
- 7:02Speaker 3: little bit more about yourself. So you guys, well, we're
- 7:14Speaker 3: having a little technical difficulties, but you know, with me,
- 7:16Speaker 3: we're gonna make it do what it do. Her book
- 7:19Speaker 3: Can't Handle Failure is a novel that is mainly okay,
- 7:24Speaker 3: she's coming back back. There we go, you back, girl.
- 7:29Speaker 3: We just make you do what it do. We don't stop,
- 7:32Speaker 3: We keep on going. We wait for you to come back. Okay,
- 7:42Speaker 3: All right, here's a little suggestion. Place your phone on
- 7:46Speaker 3: airplane modes so no calls can come in and you
- 7:50Speaker 3: won't get disconnected.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Yeah, but you can't.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Tell these people.
- 8:03Speaker 3: You know, these fancy phones that we have going on.
- 8:07Speaker 3: I literally this my little friend is next to me
- 8:11Speaker 3: all the time. But let me tell you, guys a
- 8:14Speaker 3: little bit about her book. Why she sets that up? Okay,
- 8:17Speaker 3: this book of hers is about poetry about what she's
- 8:21Speaker 3: been through in life and how she finds a way
- 8:24Speaker 3: of dealing with it. It talks about being abused, emotionally dreamed,
- 8:28Speaker 3: and just trying to survive the every day to day.
- 8:32Speaker 3: A lot of us. I feel that can take something
- 8:36Speaker 3: away from one of the peoples to this book. You're
- 8:38Speaker 3: back at it. I did it. So her poetry is
- 8:45Speaker 3: a book that is almost for everyone. Okay, you guys,
- 8:50Speaker 3: but we're gonna let her talk a little bit about it.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Can't Handle Failure. Where did you get your title?
- 9:01Speaker 4: My mom has a lot of health problems, and the
- 9:05Speaker 4: last time she was in the hospital, they told her
- 9:08Speaker 4: she had CHF and her chances of living were.
- 9:12Speaker 5: Little to none. You know, the same old, same old.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Well, one thing my mom said that she instilled in
- 9:18Speaker 4: our minds is failure is not an option. Either you
- 9:21Speaker 4: gonna do it or you're gonna do it right. So
- 9:24Speaker 4: I named the book after her. Can't Handle failure because
- 9:26Speaker 4: you're not gonna go away from me like that.
- 9:29Speaker 5: It's not happening.
- 9:31Speaker 3: So I can tell you take you take life by
- 9:34Speaker 3: the reins and you kind of stir it in with
- 9:37Speaker 3: God's guidance. You you put it where it's supposed to be.
- 9:40Speaker 3: I can see this.
- 9:42Speaker 5: Oh yeah, So.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Was there any part of your book that was hard
- 9:51Speaker 3: to to write? Was there one point that you just said,
- 9:58Speaker 3: I gotta put this down because this brought up all
- 10:00Speaker 3: these emotions in me. Were there any points.
- 10:03Speaker 1: That were like that?
- 10:05Speaker 4: I would have to say all of them were like that,
- 10:09Speaker 4: only because I write how it comes to me. So
- 10:13Speaker 4: if I was driving.
- 10:14Speaker 5: And it comes, I gotta pull over.
- 10:18Speaker 4: We got to write this down because if I don't,
- 10:20Speaker 4: I won't remember it. And there's a message in it.
- 10:23Speaker 5: So I have to pull over. Lot, we got to stop.
- 10:25Speaker 4: So there's notebooks everywhere. There's one in my car, my
- 10:28Speaker 4: husband's car, the kids, card I have a notebook somewhere.
- 10:33Speaker 3: Okay, A lot of people I know they say they
- 10:35Speaker 3: keep a lot of notebooks written everywhere. Are you? Are
- 10:40Speaker 3: you a type of person that you will grab all
- 10:43Speaker 3: the notebooks and pick certain poems or you just say
- 10:47Speaker 3: I'm gonna grab this notebook and I'm gonna take the
- 10:49Speaker 3: points of that feel are relevant to my book and
- 10:54Speaker 3: place them inside my back.
- 10:56Speaker 4: I take the poem, I take the notebook. This is
- 10:58Speaker 4: how we feel. We're gonna write, and if we write
- 11:01Speaker 4: all night, we write all night. There are days I
- 11:05Speaker 4: can know for a fact I stayed up and wrote.
- 11:07Speaker 4: I have poems I haven't published yet, but my husband
- 11:11Speaker 4: keeps from because he was like, you never know.
- 11:14Speaker 3: That is true, that is true, So what start that
- 11:19Speaker 3: you're writing?
- 11:23Speaker 1: Honestly, I was that weird kid.
- 11:27Speaker 4: I've been writing since I was thirteen, and I'm kind
- 11:30Speaker 4: of people like. I'm very when I'm around people. I know,
- 11:33Speaker 4: I'm very open and I'm bubbly, but when I'm around.
- 11:37Speaker 5: Strangers, I am shy. I am really, really, really shy.
- 11:41Speaker 1: So I was that weird kid.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Instead of making friends, I'm gonna just write how I
- 11:44Speaker 4: feel and believe it there and hope nobody reads it.
- 11:49Speaker 4: So the whole time my sister and brothers are making friends,
- 11:52Speaker 4: I'm writing.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Then once you.
- 11:56Speaker 4: Know, you become a teenager and you think you know
- 11:58Speaker 4: everything and mom have to shelter me from it.
- 12:02Speaker 1: She was like, I don't really want you to.
- 12:04Speaker 4: Go outside because you're not ready. The boys are looking
- 12:06Speaker 4: at you in the wrong way. You don't know what
- 12:08Speaker 4: it is.
- 12:08Speaker 1: And I'm like, oh, she just being her.
- 12:11Speaker 5: Now I'm mad.
- 12:12Speaker 4: So now I'm going to write and let you see
- 12:13Speaker 4: what I wrote. Why because you don't toush touch your parents,
- 12:20Speaker 4: but they always tell them how you feel. So I'm
- 12:22Speaker 4: gonna write this poem and I'm gonna leave it on
- 12:25Speaker 4: the kitchen table because when you come in after you
- 12:27Speaker 4: get off work, all permission forms and everything, you won't red.
- 12:30Speaker 5: It's on the kitchen table.
- 12:31Speaker 4: I'm gonna leave it right now because you made me mad.
- 12:34Speaker 5: If she'll.
- 12:43Speaker 3: How much trouble did you get in from speaking your mind?
- 12:47Speaker 5: A lot?
- 12:53Speaker 3: See, I was the type of child you know, talking trash,
- 12:58Speaker 3: but you bull you writing on a piece of people
- 13:00Speaker 3: and leave it on the kitchen tea. So how do
- 13:07Speaker 3: you how was do you use your writing?
- 13:11Speaker 1: Well?
- 13:11Speaker 3: I understand now that you use it as a former communication.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Do your kids use it as a former communication with
- 13:17Speaker 3: you like you do with your mom?
- 13:19Speaker 4: No, my kids we have a very open life. Treat
- 13:24Speaker 4: me with respect when we speak to me. Don't curse
- 13:27Speaker 4: at me.
- 13:27Speaker 5: If you want to talk to me and we can.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Talk about anything because I don't want Like I love
- 13:33Speaker 4: my mom for everything she did, but I kind of
- 13:35Speaker 4: felt like she was trying to hope the world for
- 13:38Speaker 4: us to wear.
- 13:39Speaker 1: We didn't really.
- 13:40Speaker 4: Have real life experience. I want to be the parents
- 13:43Speaker 4: to wear if my baby said, Mama, look here, I
- 13:45Speaker 4: think I'm ready for SECT and I think we need
- 13:48Speaker 4: to have some birth control talk. I think we need
- 13:50Speaker 4: to talk about why do you feel like you're ready?
- 13:53Speaker 4: Is it you or are you being pressured?
- 13:55Speaker 5: Like?
- 13:56Speaker 4: I want to keep those lines open because I don't
- 13:58Speaker 4: ever want my kids to feel like they're afraid to
- 14:01Speaker 4: see and tell me anything because I don't want to
- 14:04Speaker 4: find out through the streets because they don't be mad,
- 14:06Speaker 4: because then I feel like you skipped the main player
- 14:09Speaker 4: in this game.
- 14:11Speaker 5: Regardless of what.
- 14:12Speaker 4: At the end of the day, I always have your back.
- 14:14Speaker 4: Just be honest with me, because I can't have your
- 14:16Speaker 4: back if I don't know what I'm defending.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Yo.
- 14:20Speaker 3: I send it to my son all the time, like,
- 14:24Speaker 3: don't let me go into something blindsided. I want to
- 14:27Speaker 3: be able to defend you. So you got to give
- 14:30Speaker 3: me the ammunition that I need. Yes, And I want
- 14:34Speaker 3: to say that I really do agree with you with
- 14:37Speaker 3: having that open door and being able to talk. I
- 14:40Speaker 3: just feel that our parents and our grandparents lived that
- 14:47Speaker 3: life up shy, don't ask me, you know what I'm saying.
- 14:53Speaker 3: And then when we started to go out there they
- 14:55Speaker 3: got mad. We was like, well, who we were supposed
- 14:57Speaker 3: to ask?
- 14:57Speaker 1: You?
- 14:58Speaker 3: Weren't letting us ask you questions?
- 15:00Speaker 4: You know the secret taboos we don't talk about.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Right, And so that is awesome. I love the fact
- 15:09Speaker 3: that you do that. I would try to do that
- 15:12Speaker 3: with my ten year old. Would Yeah, that's a whole
- 15:16Speaker 3: different story that.
- 15:18Speaker 4: So if I tried it with my one year old
- 15:19Speaker 4: right now, we'll be eating chicken nuggets.
- 15:21Speaker 3: And old Gracie's Corner or what other lady name was
- 15:31Speaker 3: you guys, miss Rachel which one't be talking? Yes, thank you,
- 15:40Speaker 3: thank you because I never understood miss Rachel. She kind
- 15:42Speaker 3: of scared me a little bit. But anyways, So how
- 15:47Speaker 3: did you publish your book? Were you independent or did
- 15:51Speaker 3: you use a publishing house? And why did you make
- 15:54Speaker 3: that decision?
- 15:57Speaker 4: So this is why a lot of people say, read
- 16:05Speaker 4: before you sign. I went with I'm not going to
- 16:13Speaker 4: name the company, but I went with a publishing house
- 16:17Speaker 4: and didn't read.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I was just so excited they were.
- 16:20Speaker 4: Going to publish my book.
- 16:22Speaker 5: My first book was a flock.
- 16:25Speaker 1: But in the contract it stays.
- 16:27Speaker 4: I have to give them another book within five years
- 16:31Speaker 4: or they could sue me.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Whoy Yeah yeah. So let me ask you a question.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Are you.
- 16:50Speaker 3: How are your feelings going forward? Are you wanting to
- 16:55Speaker 3: stay with the publishing house or are you wanting to
- 16:57Speaker 3: go independent?
- 17:00Speaker 4: I would like to go independent because there's a lot
- 17:06Speaker 4: of poems that I wrote that I submitted to them
- 17:09Speaker 4: that they didn't think would hit the tard bit community,
- 17:15Speaker 4: and I felt like they were trying to edit the
- 17:18Speaker 4: book to where it wasn't really me.
- 17:24Speaker 3: You know what. I hear a lot of people say
- 17:25Speaker 3: they love going independent, they just don't like all the
- 17:29Speaker 3: work that goes behind independent, And I think what you
- 17:34Speaker 3: happened through is one of those scenarios that happen when
- 17:40Speaker 3: you go with the publishing house. So are you so
- 17:46Speaker 3: your short story is that going to be under your
- 17:50Speaker 3: independent or is that publishing?
- 17:56Speaker 4: I'm going to go independent with this one only because
- 18:01Speaker 4: it would be best for three reasons. The first reason
- 18:05Speaker 4: would be if I edit the book, nobody's going to
- 18:10Speaker 4: change it. It's not going to be Hey, you know
- 18:15Speaker 4: you're too urban in this part of the book.
- 18:17Speaker 5: We need to change this or changed this.
- 18:20Speaker 4: It's this is what we're living.
- 18:22Speaker 5: This is how we talk. This is how you can
- 18:26Speaker 5: relate to people.
- 18:30Speaker 3: I like the fact that you said this is how
- 18:33Speaker 3: we're living, this is how we talk. As a reader,
- 18:39Speaker 3: I love when Life. For the book that I'm currently reading.
- 18:44Speaker 3: You guys, you might not be able to see it
- 18:46Speaker 3: doesn't like this a little bit of it. This is
- 18:48Speaker 3: called reverse by Ryan Jenkins. And I love the fact
- 18:51Speaker 3: that in the book it has that slang, it has
- 18:56Speaker 3: that that that dialogue that represents or is about the
- 19:05Speaker 3: character that makes the book real. So how are you
- 19:08Speaker 3: too urban? And an urban book?
- 19:11Speaker 4: A couple of my poems were too urban, and when
- 19:14Speaker 4: they categorized me, it was urban about what was urban poetry?
- 19:20Speaker 4: And then it went from urban to urban African American.
- 19:24Speaker 4: It just couldn't be a book of poetry. It had
- 19:26Speaker 4: to have several different labels. When I go to the library,
- 19:30Speaker 4: I don't go and say I'm looking for an urban section.
- 19:33Speaker 4: I'm just looking for one section.
- 19:37Speaker 3: You guys, African American is not a genre. Please understand
- 19:44Speaker 3: that African American is not a genre. It's barely a week,
- 19:55Speaker 3: but it is not a genre. So please don't go
- 19:58Speaker 3: in your public library. Action, can I have the African
- 20:01Speaker 3: American books? Because there's no such thing as an African
- 20:04Speaker 3: American book. Okay, remember that, just like you have with
- 20:10Speaker 3: Caucasian authors, there are mystery romance such as such, they're
- 20:15Speaker 3: the same thing. Just telling me you want an African
- 20:19Speaker 3: American author, not an African American book. Don't do that
- 20:23Speaker 3: because what that does is that puts you in that box,
- 20:26Speaker 3: and nobody want If they don't want to go in
- 20:28Speaker 3: that box, they're never going to recognize you. So I
- 20:32Speaker 3: applaud you for doing that. So since we're talking about this,
- 20:39Speaker 3: your cover very very distinctive, how did you come up
- 20:45Speaker 3: with that cover? Man?
- 20:48Speaker 5: Actually, it was my husband's idea.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Oh, good job, he'd be a good job. So how
- 20:59Speaker 3: did you guys? Well, how did he come up with it?
- 21:03Speaker 4: Because as he say, anytime that I'm finished writing for
- 21:06Speaker 4: the night, I just leave my part in the middle
- 21:08Speaker 4: pad just like that, just leave it there.
- 21:11Speaker 5: So we was like, you know what, that would be
- 21:13Speaker 5: a nice.
- 21:13Speaker 3: Cover, very very to the point in actually representing you
- 21:20Speaker 3: through the book. I love it. So poet Stevens, how
- 21:27Speaker 3: did you get that name just because of poetry and
- 21:30Speaker 3: your last name? Yes, Sam, understandable, understandable. So what does
- 21:39Speaker 3: literary success look like for you?
- 21:44Speaker 1: For me? Literary successful beings?
- 21:48Speaker 4: Like I said, I have a short story coming up,
- 21:50Speaker 4: and it touched on a lot of things we grew up.
- 21:55Speaker 4: I'm able to talk about because it was taboo, you know,
- 21:58Speaker 4: like the uncle that you not posting dressed around, stuff
- 22:01Speaker 4: like that. This book touches on it. And if my
- 22:04Speaker 4: book can reach one girl to the point she say,
- 22:08Speaker 4: I know I'm not in this by myself. Somebody's been
- 22:11Speaker 4: through what I'm going through, that's my success right there.
- 22:15Speaker 4: If somebody can read my book can go you know
- 22:18Speaker 4: what this girl right?
- 22:20Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 22:20Speaker 4: I made it f this time, but we're gonna try
- 22:22Speaker 4: it again.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Because I know who won't be easy for me.
- 22:28Speaker 4: I've been a CNA for a very very long time,
- 22:31Speaker 4: so it's a new come up for me. But I
- 22:35Speaker 4: can't let one bad grade go.
- 22:38Speaker 5: I don't think this for me no more, it's not
- 22:40Speaker 5: gonna happen.
- 22:41Speaker 3: I'm so you're wanting to reach those with this book
- 22:48Speaker 3: who would who would benefit best from your.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Writings, anybody that's willing to listen, anybody that's willing to understand,
- 23:03Speaker 4: and anybody that can read in between lines.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Oh okay, I love that reading in between the line.
- 23:10Speaker 3: So you're wanting them to come up with an interpretation
- 23:13Speaker 3: for themselves.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Yes, because what I can what I'm thinking, You might
- 23:17Speaker 1: read it and.
- 23:18Speaker 5: Be like, well that ain't what that is.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Understandable Now it's It's nice to have a book where
- 23:26Speaker 3: you can interpret yourself and place yourself aside the book.
- 23:29Speaker 3: So I love that. So before we went online, it
- 23:33Speaker 3: wasn't able to tell you this. So I'm gonna go
- 23:35Speaker 3: ahead and tell you now. The last five minutes of
- 23:38Speaker 3: Scie book out different podcasts, we have our fun questions. Okay,
- 23:43Speaker 3: So the pun questions are questions that involve music and
- 23:48Speaker 3: media because I love music and I love media. So
- 23:53Speaker 3: I have now had a staple question that I asked
- 23:56Speaker 3: every author. But before I ask you that question, I'm
- 24:00Speaker 3: gonna ask you this. You have an opportunity to have
- 24:06Speaker 3: your poetry down at a spoken word conference at essence
- 24:11Speaker 3: like this, Let's do a big who would you want
- 24:15Speaker 3: to read your poetry and why did you choose that person?
- 24:20Speaker 5: Jill Scott.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Oh see, you went straight there? So why Jill Scott?
- 24:28Speaker 4: Because when Jill Scott first came out, a lot of
- 24:31Speaker 4: people really wasn't rocking on the neo soul. Everybody was
- 24:36Speaker 4: so into hip hop and you know, everybody want to
- 24:39Speaker 4: be a hot girl, and you know, we wanted to
- 24:41Speaker 4: be suked and everything else. But she had a vibe
- 24:46Speaker 4: of her own. It wasn't, hey, I want to be
- 24:49Speaker 4: a copy paste person. It wasn't like I see Erica
- 24:52Speaker 4: Badu do a number try.
- 24:54Speaker 5: No, she was like, this is my soul, this is
- 24:57Speaker 5: my lane.
- 24:58Speaker 3: I'm gonna create my own Pa, You're right, That's exactly
- 25:03Speaker 3: what she did. And she didn't let anybody kind of
- 25:06Speaker 3: dictate her and she grew along the process.
- 25:09Speaker 1: So I see it.
- 25:10Speaker 3: I feel that one here's a staple question Lifetime is
- 25:17Speaker 3: on the line in the Love Your Book, they want
- 25:21Speaker 3: to make your booket to a film. Who would be
- 25:25Speaker 3: your leading lady and who would be your leading man?
- 25:31Speaker 3: And why did you choose them?
- 25:34Speaker 4: My leading lady would have to be Whoopy Goldbert. It
- 25:40Speaker 4: is because we were brainwashed to believe Whoopy was an
- 25:45Speaker 4: ugly woman. I was brainwashed to believe that I was
- 25:51Speaker 4: very ugly that nobody never wanted me.
- 25:54Speaker 5: I was undesirable, I was damaged good and it took.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Somebody thirteen years to finally crack.
- 26:05Speaker 5: Me down to where I became the diamond I am today.
- 26:10Speaker 4: So I have to go with whoopy Why because everybody
- 26:13Speaker 4: took past the other dog. Oh she ugly.
- 26:16Speaker 1: You know, she did this and did this, But at
- 26:19Speaker 1: the end of the day, she's still smiling. She is
- 26:20Speaker 1: beautiful as she ever was off.
- 26:23Speaker 5: My leading man.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Would have to be Samuel L. Jackson, because the man,
- 26:29Speaker 4: the way he say ms, and the way every time
- 26:31Speaker 4: I messed up with my granddaddy had to look at it.
- 26:33Speaker 1: And if that man, because I want.
- 26:40Speaker 5: Him Samuel L.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Jackson. Okay, I see it, I see it all right.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Lifetime's back on the line again, but this time they
- 26:50Speaker 3: want to do a bio pic of you. Who would
- 26:53Speaker 3: you give the honor of playing you? And why I.
- 27:00Speaker 5: Would play me?
- 27:02Speaker 3: Oh?
- 27:02Speaker 4: Okay. There are emotions that certain people can't tap into
- 27:08Speaker 4: if they've never been through it.
- 27:11Speaker 3: MM, only you could play yourself the best, So I
- 27:16Speaker 3: totally understand that. So before we leave tonight, give us
- 27:21Speaker 3: the rundown. Tell us where we can get your book.
- 27:25Speaker 3: If you could tell us when your next book is
- 27:27Speaker 3: going to be coming out, and if you have any
- 27:29Speaker 3: social media handles, tell us about it.
- 27:33Speaker 4: My book is on Amazon.
- 27:36Speaker 1: I just discovered recently that.
- 27:38Speaker 4: They finally put it in Books a million, so I'm
- 27:41Speaker 4: excited about that. My social media platforms are poet Brooks
- 27:48Speaker 4: on Instagram, poet Brooks also on TikTok. I'm I'm I'm
- 27:55Speaker 4: gonna say, I'm viral ish probably every other day. It's
- 28:01Speaker 4: more of a comedy short than anything because when we
- 28:04Speaker 4: have we go to work with Gardis I work with.
- 28:07Speaker 4: We don't go to work to work, We go to
- 28:09Speaker 4: work to last. It is twelve hours of a straight poverty.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Show Joe and listen. I work at a public library
- 28:17Speaker 3: and there it is like this, totally like that, and
- 28:21Speaker 3: you like, I actually didn't come in to work, but
- 28:24Speaker 3: I'm gonna laugh my butt off, So it's time to
- 28:26Speaker 3: get off because I need some entertainment. I told me,
- 28:30Speaker 3: I understand that.
- 28:32Speaker 4: And I always feel like you never know what somebody
- 28:35Speaker 4: going through, so if you can make them laugh, you
- 28:38Speaker 4: compleet the whole day. And my residents think on a clown,
- 28:41Speaker 4: so every time I make a joke, they always laughing
- 28:44Speaker 4: at me anyway. So yeah, I'm social media ish. I'm
- 28:51Speaker 4: trying to do better. I'm really really trying to do better.
- 28:55Speaker 3: I ain't just speak consistent like I have to tell
- 28:58Speaker 3: myself okay.
- 29:00Speaker 5: I'm learning about that.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Well I will, yeah, you know.
- 29:06Speaker 1: But yeah, the title of it is Secret.
- 29:09Speaker 4: I'm trying to have it out around December January, and
- 29:16Speaker 4: this book is a roller coaster. You're going to laugh,
- 29:20Speaker 4: you're going to get angry, you're going to see everything
- 29:24Speaker 4: from Miss Angels eyes, and you're going.
- 29:27Speaker 5: To be like I went through that. I went through that.
- 29:30Speaker 4: I went through that, and you're gonna learn you can
- 29:35Speaker 4: overcome it, you can hear from it and become a
- 29:37Speaker 4: better person.
- 29:39Speaker 3: Now that's my type of book, So you know, I
- 29:41Speaker 3: will be looking forward to that. I love those books
- 29:44Speaker 3: that take me on the roller coaster. So keep me
- 29:48Speaker 3: in contact because I surely want to read it. Yes, ma'am, Well,

- 30:05Speaker 3: new readers, old readers and soon to be readers want
- 30:09Speaker 3: they see this podcast, what would you like to say
- 30:12Speaker 3: to them?
- 30:14Speaker 1: Keep an open heart?
- 30:15Speaker 4: Open mind and open ears because everything you see not
- 30:19Speaker 4: might might not lad up to everything you hear, and
- 30:22Speaker 4: sometimes your best thing is to just listen and don't respond.
- 30:26Speaker 5: That hurt them worse.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Ooh, I like that. Listen and don't respond. Sometimes I
- 30:38Speaker 3: don't know how.
- 30:38Speaker 4: You don't want a reaction, and if they don't get it,
- 30:41Speaker 4: that makes the mad and.
- 30:42Speaker 5: They walk off.
- 30:42Speaker 4: I'm slowly learning that.
- 30:45Speaker 3: That is true. But then for me, there's some reason
- 30:49Speaker 3: why I feel like I gotta have the last word,
- 30:53Speaker 3: and maybe that's why my child is that. Yeah, that
- 30:56Speaker 3: makes sense. Sometimes I do feel like I got to
- 30:59Speaker 3: get that. But you know what confirmation? Stop talking so
- 31:03Speaker 3: much and just walk away. All right, here you got
