Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:05Speaker 2: All Right, Well, when I left the podcast waves yesterday,
- 0:10Speaker 2: I started looking online and I'm seeing people celebrate the shooting,
- 0:16Speaker 2: celebrate a shooting of a healthcare ceo, United Healthcare CEO,
- 0:21Speaker 2: Brian Thompson, and I was utterly disgusted. So I'm here
- 0:28Speaker 2: to interrupt the partying to tell you it's not right
- 0:33Speaker 2: to cheer what happened to Brian Thompson, the shooting of
- 0:39Speaker 2: Brian Thompson. I also want to share a small kind
- 0:46Speaker 2: of parallel, if you will, so towards the end of
- 0:52Speaker 2: my dad's life, it wasn't that we were rejected for
- 0:59Speaker 2: any claim or anything like that, but the hospital itself
- 1:06Speaker 2: was seemingly giving my dad medicine to keep his system going,
- 1:12Speaker 2: which in turn caused him to get more tired and weak,
- 1:18Speaker 2: and unfortunately his body gave out.
- 1:20Speaker 3: And he passed.
- 1:23Speaker 2: And for a while I've held this in, but for
- 1:26Speaker 2: a while I was really sad that maybe what they
- 1:31Speaker 2: were trying to do while they took great care of
- 1:33Speaker 2: him also led to his passing a little more sun
- 1:38Speaker 2: than I had thought. But you know why, when Downstate Suny,
- 1:47Speaker 2: downstate in Brooklyn was threatened to be closed, its existence
- 1:56Speaker 2: was threatened. To be honest with you, I was more
- 2:01Speaker 2: sad than angry. I was more sad than angry because
- 2:08Speaker 2: that hospital did do a lot of great work to
- 2:11Speaker 2: care for my dad. It just rapped the medicine they
- 2:14Speaker 2: gave him, did not help his body. It just moved it,
- 2:24Speaker 2: and I think sped up his end of life care.
- 2:31Speaker 2: But I wasn't angry or upset to the point if
- 2:34Speaker 2: I wanted the hospital close. I was sad that hospital
- 2:39Speaker 2: could close because there were a lot of great people,
- 2:41Speaker 2: a lot of great staff, a lot of great.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Nurses in that hospital sunny downstate.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I would have gone and supported them, but I had
- 2:54Speaker 2: to work in staying open when they had those rallies.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I don't wish the demise like it seems like so
- 3:07Speaker 2: many people who are so cold hearted and so have
- 3:12Speaker 2: evil in their heart, wanted the demise of the United
- 3:16Speaker 2: Healthcare CEO. My challenge to myself now is on this
- 3:21Speaker 2: podcast to get someone who was denied by United Healthcare,
- 3:25Speaker 2: because they ranked thirty two percent, which is highest among
- 3:29Speaker 2: the healthcare providers and denials.
- 3:31Speaker 1: That's shocking.
- 3:34Speaker 2: But I think we can grieve the loss and be
- 3:39Speaker 2: upset at the shooting.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Of this CEO and also grieve the fact.
- 3:49Speaker 2: That denials are through the roof at United Healthcare. The
- 3:53Speaker 2: two are compatible. You can be pissed off that someone
- 3:59Speaker 2: took someone I was lifing in their hands and shut
- 4:01Speaker 2: them to death in the middle of Manhattan, and also
- 4:04Speaker 2: be pissed that that company turns down people, even those
- 4:09Speaker 2: who have life threatening.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Illnesses.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I think you can mourn both situations, and I also
- 4:25Speaker 2: think to get a better perspective, I'm hoping for someone
- 4:29Speaker 2: who's been denied by United Healthcare.
- 4:33Speaker 1: To truly come on this podcast and talk with me
- 4:38Speaker 1: about it.
- 4:44Speaker 2: But no, I wouldn't wish the end of the hospital
- 4:47Speaker 2: my dad died at, because they took great grayer in
- 4:49Speaker 2: my father, despite my internal feelings that well, the game
- 4:55Speaker 2: of different medicine, maybe he would have been here a
- 4:57Speaker 2: little longer, but his body gave out, and whatever feelings
- 5:02Speaker 2: I had, maybe that was through grief of upset that
- 5:07Speaker 2: he was gone and the way he passed that week,
- 5:12Speaker 2: went away the minute I realized, Hey, that hospital that
- 5:15Speaker 2: took great care of my father was also closing and
- 5:19Speaker 2: threatened to be closed, And to this day, Sundy Down
- 5:29Speaker 2: Sat Medical Center is still around. Thank God, because hospitals.
- 5:36Speaker 2: That hospital is needed to treat many Brooklyn knights and
- 5:44Speaker 2: men in New Yorkers.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And if you could think of it that.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Way, think of it that way.
- 6:15Speaker 2: As just now, there are community coalitions, according to Crane's
- 6:19Speaker 2: business pushing the state to maintain hospital beds at Sunni.
- 6:23Speaker 2: There are healthcare workers who have a plan to save
- 6:27Speaker 2: Sudy downstate, and I pray that it does not mean
- 6:33Speaker 2: its demise. But I just thought of a parallel that
- 6:40Speaker 2: family members are probably very angry that their loved ones
- 6:46Speaker 2: have been denied claims three night healthcare, five or two
- 6:52Speaker 2: for every denial, there are same people behind those denied
- 6:58Speaker 2: claims that would not wish the death of anybody, no
- 7:08Speaker 2: matter how hard and how awful it is their claim
- 7:12Speaker 2: was denied. There are same people who to hear from them,
- 7:19Speaker 2: not these rabid occupy Wall streeters or say.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Your next, your necks, blah blah blah. We don't need
- 7:26Speaker 1: to hear that. That's not a message we want to
- 7:29Speaker 1: hear either.
- 7:34Speaker 2: I only mentioned it because it aggravated me so much
- 7:38Speaker 2: that the CEO being killed was worth celebrating. What country
- 7:44Speaker 2: is it where we celebrate a murder happening in midtown Manhattan.
- 7:48Speaker 2: The only murder I would really celebrate is when terrorists
- 7:51Speaker 2: get killed. That's rightful to celebrate, not ceo in billionaires.
- 8:04Speaker 2: And I mentioned CEOs are calling up security firms. Well,
- 8:11Speaker 2: the New York Posts today had a great article about it,
- 8:19Speaker 2: as a top security firm has been inundated with calls,
- 8:23Speaker 2: according to Nicholas McIntyre, as CEOs fear for their lives.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Allied University, Allied Universal has been flooded with forantic inquiries
- 8:39Speaker 2: after the shooting, according to Glenn Cusra.
- 8:45Speaker 1: And The New York Times. So it rocked not only.
- 8:54Speaker 2: The healthcare culture but the CEO culture, this shooting. But
- 9:00Speaker 2: it shouldn't be celebrated. It should be condemned. The potential
- 9:17Speaker 2: shutdown of Sudie Downstate. As someone who lost a parent
- 9:22Speaker 2: at Sudie Downstate, the loss of Suity down State would
- 9:27Speaker 2: add to my grief because they took such great care
- 9:30Speaker 2: of my dad.
- 9:32Speaker 1: No matter what, And I would not wish that ill will.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Of anybody's livelihoods in that hospital because they took such
- 9:43Speaker 2: great care.
- 9:46Speaker 1: And you know what, even.
- 9:54Speaker 2: If something had gone wrong and it wasn't a natural
- 9:59Speaker 2: death as my dad death was, I would still pray
- 10:03Speaker 2: for that Universal University Hospital. I would still pray for
- 10:10Speaker 2: that hospital stay alive, because those doctors, those nurses do
- 10:15Speaker 2: their damnedest to keep people going in that place.
- 10:19Speaker 1: And really they kept my dad going.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Up until I was able to see him for the end.
- 10:29Speaker 2: And it would grieve me to see that place close,
- 10:31Speaker 2: just like it grieves me to see this healthcare CEO
- 10:35Speaker 2: shot in the middle of Manhattan, and it grieve you too.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Here on the One Leg Up Network, one little side note,
- 10:46Speaker 2: Time Person of the Year President elect Donald Trump is
- 10:52Speaker 2: at sixty eight percent in the running, sixty eight percent
- 11:04Speaker 2: over Elon Musk's at four percent, comeal As at two,
- 11:08Speaker 2: and Joe Biden is at one.
- 11:12Speaker 1: President Trump.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Could be put on the Time cover of the year
- 11:19Speaker 2: a Person of the Year cover, and how sweet.
- 11:23Speaker 1: That would be.
- 11:27Speaker 2: So whatever your family has gone through, if you have
- 11:30Speaker 2: been denied from United Healthcare, please reach out Alex ALEXJNYC
- 11:35Speaker 2: dot com. I'm gonna have a sane conversation from a
- 11:37Speaker 2: perspective of someone whose claim has been denied, not the
- 11:43Speaker 2: rabbidness trying to speak on your behalf when I'm sure
- 11:47Speaker 2: those who haven't victimized by United Healthcare would not want
- 11:51Speaker 2: to see how to become a victim himself. I am
- 11:55Speaker 2: one hundred percent sure of that, and that's my stance
- 11:59Speaker 2: on the only network on alex gare
