- 0:00Speaker 1: How's it going, guys going well? How you doing? You know,
- 0:03Speaker 1: it's going pretty good. Life is good. Danil, you're good, Joel,
- 0:09Speaker 1: you're good. Bringing in there, Zach, how are you. I'm
- 0:12Speaker 1: going to see Charlotte Lawrence with her father play the
- 0:16Speaker 1: Governor's Ball on side. Oh my goodness, that's going to
- 0:19Speaker 1: be sick. It's at City Field this year, which I
- 0:23Speaker 1: imagine means the parking lot because they're not setting up
- 0:27Speaker 1: stages on the green. Probably no, but isn't city Field.
- 0:34Speaker 1: It's a stadium, right. City Field is a baseball stadium.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Governor's Ball is typically a music festival that's thrown on
- 0:40Speaker 1: Governor's Island, which is a small little island just off Manhattan.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I've never been to it, but this year I'm assuming
- 0:47Speaker 1: because of COVID and protocols and not slamming people into
- 0:51Speaker 1: ferries to get there, it says it's at city Field.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Now city Fields a baseball stadium, which makes me think
- 0:57Speaker 1: they're using the parking lot. Yea, if you follow my logic. No, yeah, absolutely,
- 1:02Speaker 1: I mean, in my in my experience, they why wouldn't they?
- 1:04Speaker 1: I don't understand why they wouldn't use the field, is
- 1:07Speaker 1: my question, because you put a tarp down on. They
- 1:09Speaker 1: do concerts inside stadiums all the time. Why not do it?
- 1:13Speaker 1: This is something I don't know because I've never been
- 1:15Speaker 1: to one. When you go to a concert at a
- 1:17Speaker 1: baseball stadium, they send me cover the green, Yeah they could.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I think it's because there's multiple stages. Donald that was like,
- 1:25Speaker 1: you know, it's one of those things. It's like lots
- 1:27Speaker 1: of different So they could put a stage over this
- 1:29Speaker 1: parking lot at different stage on that parking lot. That
- 1:32Speaker 1: that makes sense, and then then the stadium itself stage
- 1:36Speaker 1: maybe main stage at the in the actual stadium potentially,
- 1:39Speaker 1: and then a bunch of stage. I don't know, but
- 1:41Speaker 1: you know what, I'll know. I'll know Saturday, Yes you will.
- 1:44Speaker 1: So that's fun. I get to be with Bill when
- 1:46Speaker 1: he sees his daughter play her first major mega festival.
- 1:50Speaker 1: You and Bill are sharing a lot of moments together nowadays,
- 1:53Speaker 1: aren't you. Oh? I don't know if you saw me
- 1:55Speaker 1: at the m's. I did lose? Did you guys? How
- 1:58Speaker 1: did you feel when? Did you feel nervous when it
- 2:00Speaker 1: was my category? Oh? Yeah, I almost cried when you lost? Dude?
- 2:06Speaker 1: Are you kidding me right now? Like I was? You
- 2:08Speaker 1: want to talk about pissed off. I took the camera
- 2:11Speaker 1: out I was recording. I was like, Yo, it's about
- 2:15Speaker 1: to be on and pop and then you lose. And
- 2:18Speaker 1: I was like, I'm sorry, that'll never see the light
- 2:20Speaker 1: of day. That's literally verbatim my experience. I was like,
- 2:24Speaker 1: except for in the middle of them reading out the category,
- 2:26Speaker 1: my internet went out and I was like not now,
- 2:29Speaker 1: like whole tight internet And it came back just in
- 2:32Speaker 1: time for them to be like an zach braf and
- 2:34Speaker 1: I was like, yes, here we go, and then it
- 2:36Speaker 1: didn't have I was like, no, it's such a nerve
- 2:39Speaker 1: racking experience sitting there. Um, you know, your stomach's turning.
- 2:43Speaker 1: How do you not act disappointed when they don't go?
- 2:46Speaker 1: I had practiced my um they got it right, face?
- 2:49Speaker 1: Do you want to see it? Yeah, it's not just clapping,
- 2:52Speaker 1: but there's a little nod like, yeah, they got it right.
- 2:55Speaker 1: That's it, that's correct. You gotta give the nod to
- 2:58Speaker 1: sell it. Happy for women and them having the opportunity.
- 3:04Speaker 1: But fuck that bullshit. Yo, one hundred man, my boy
- 3:09Speaker 1: did the fucking best show. I don't care what they say.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Now I gotta watch some bullshit show that I don't
- 3:15Speaker 1: care to watch to validate, to validate my point that
- 3:19Speaker 1: my boy is better. I'm just putting out there. I
- 3:23Speaker 1: didn't actually watch. It was a flight attendant, right, I
- 3:25Speaker 1: haven't I haven't seen it. And as the other one,
- 3:28Speaker 1: the Hacks right attendant. I know the people on flight attendant.
- 3:32Speaker 1: That's brilante in them. I'm okay if they win, I'm
- 3:35Speaker 1: sorry they don't know this because obviously I was. I
- 3:37Speaker 1: was freaking blacked out. It's the It was director of Hacks. Okay,
- 3:42Speaker 1: Hacks is a very good show. You would like a show.
- 3:45Speaker 1: It's cute, but it was biscuits. The fucking biscuits were
- 3:51Speaker 1: the The biscuits were the main focus on the show
- 3:55Speaker 1: for the whole season. Into an a party. Nothing in
- 4:01Speaker 1: this show Hacks that whatever episode was directed, Uh sure
- 4:08Speaker 1: that has carried on. I don't give a fuck. Um
- 4:12Speaker 1: it's funny. So we go to the after party. Well
- 4:14Speaker 1: was any It was fun to be on like the
- 4:16Speaker 1: winning team. You know, everyone kept winning, everyone kept winning,
- 4:18Speaker 1: everyone kept winning. Was so exciting and it was exciting
- 4:20Speaker 1: to go on the stage because Bill said, everybody come
- 4:22Speaker 1: up and then go to the after party, and it
- 4:25Speaker 1: was almost like a horror movie. Like everywhere I went
- 4:28Speaker 1: everyone had a trophy. And then the theme of the
- 4:31Speaker 1: party was biscuits, so it was like biscuits, biscuits, trophy, trophy.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I was like, I gotta get the fuck out of here.
- 4:36Speaker 1: That's the bullshit. That's the bullshit. That's the bullshit. And
- 4:40Speaker 1: I dare to say it. The theme of the party
- 4:42Speaker 1: was biscuits. I dare to say it. I believe I
- 4:46Speaker 1: believe the producers of the show even thought you were
- 4:48Speaker 1: gonna win. Um, yeah, I don't know whenever. It's feel
- 4:52Speaker 1: silly to talk about it now, but I did lose,
- 4:54Speaker 1: but it was fun to go. When it's over, there's
- 4:57Speaker 1: like this sigh of relief because you know, you're so tense.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I was been realize how tense I was. I obviously
- 5:02Speaker 1: really wanted to win, but my stomach had been so
- 5:04Speaker 1: tight and turning over the whole thing. There wasn't that
- 5:07Speaker 1: what if I did win it? Oh, of course I
- 5:09Speaker 1: practiced my my speech. I I I definitely thought about
- 5:13Speaker 1: the words that I was gonna You didn't want to
- 5:15Speaker 1: run up on the young lady and be and do
- 5:17Speaker 1: like a yeasy yeah, and be like you know, Bill
- 5:21Speaker 1: Lawrence made the best video ever. You don't don't want
- 5:24Speaker 1: you don't want to, you don't want to run up
- 5:25Speaker 1: on stage and do anybody. ODB has the best one ever.
- 5:33Speaker 1: ODB had finish. That's some bullshit. I'm but Beyonce had
- 5:38Speaker 1: the best video ever. He wasn't wrong, but he shouldn't
- 5:43Speaker 1: have done it. Well. It's the same thing when Woo
- 5:45Speaker 1: Tang lost. He's like, look y'all, fucking ODB goes up
- 5:49Speaker 1: on stage with a suit. I put a suit I bought.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I went and bought a suit for y'all. You know
- 5:54Speaker 1: what I mean. Puffy, You know Puffy's good, but you
- 5:57Speaker 1: know Woo tanks for the kids. Also, I should have
- 6:03Speaker 1: gone up there to the Hacks director and said, um, listen,
- 6:07Speaker 1: I'm gonna let you finish. Yeah, no, but episode two.
- 6:12Speaker 1: But Bill Lawrence had the best video every Anyway, anyway,
- 6:22Speaker 1: congratulations to Hacks. You know it actually is a great shows, smart, extraordinary.
- 6:31Speaker 1: The young girl Hannah is incredible too. I saw her too.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I told her. I told her. Just as I came
- 6:37Speaker 1: out of the porta potty, I saw her and I said,
- 6:39Speaker 1: you are so talented, and uh, it's fun. You know,
- 6:42Speaker 1: it's fun. She said, thank you, I'm about to take
- 6:44Speaker 1: the award from you. No, she was the actress, not
- 6:48Speaker 1: the filmmaker. Okay, um she uh it was cool. I
- 6:53Speaker 1: don't know what to say her than it was so
- 6:54Speaker 1: fun seeing lots of people. Lots of people sent their
- 6:56Speaker 1: love to you, Donald. They were like a married couple.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Whenever someone sees me to like said my love to Donald,
- 7:02Speaker 1: I want to know who did that? Who did that?
- 7:05Speaker 1: Keenan did that? I love him? Thank you, Keenan. I
- 7:08Speaker 1: miss you, brother. This is all the people that sent
- 7:14Speaker 1: their love to me through you, like Kevin Figy. I
- 7:18Speaker 1: saw it a picture, bro. Yeah, I had a cool moment.
- 7:22Speaker 1: You guys will geek out. I was at the valet
- 7:24Speaker 1: with Elizabeth Olsen and and her I don't know if
- 7:29Speaker 1: it's her. He was hanging out with the Scarlett Witch.
- 7:32Speaker 1: So I went. And also Catherine Han who I've known forever.
- 7:35Speaker 1: She went in her question she's she's incredible. She went
- 7:41Speaker 1: to and you. Anyway, I was at the valet stand
- 7:44Speaker 1: with Elizabeth Olsen and her boyfriend or fiance, I don't
- 7:48Speaker 1: know which one. He doesn't exists and it's not valid
- 7:51Speaker 1: right now. In my eyes. She is a single woman
- 7:54Speaker 1: out on the prow, lady to make it happen. Okay,
- 7:57Speaker 1: you're married, so take a deep breath. I wasn't talking
- 8:00Speaker 1: about for me. I was talking about for my friend. Okay,
- 8:05Speaker 1: I don't know which friend you're talking about, but I look.
- 8:09Speaker 1: I look like three feet to my right and there's
- 8:11Speaker 1: the guy with the baseball hat, and I'm like, who,
- 8:13Speaker 1: Not many people rocket baseball hat at all times, even
- 8:16Speaker 1: award ceremonies. And I said to her, is that Kevin Vaiy?
- 8:19Speaker 1: And she goes, yeah, Kevin, do you know Zach? And
- 8:22Speaker 1: so he comes over and we just started shooting the ship,
- 8:25Speaker 1: and he obviously knows I'm dating Flow. So we started
- 8:27Speaker 1: talking about, um, all the exciting things that happened with
- 8:30Speaker 1: Black Widow, and I told him that, um, I buy
- 8:33Speaker 1: all of the Black Widow toys and I've made basically
- 8:36Speaker 1: a shrine to Flow on my mantle of Black Widow
- 8:39Speaker 1: toys and uh. And we were just shooting the ship
- 8:43Speaker 1: and he was so cool, and then he had the kapper.
- 8:45Speaker 1: He said, UM, I've loved you for years. Man. My
- 8:47Speaker 1: wife is in the medical profession and I've seen every
- 8:50Speaker 1: single episode of Scrubs. Does he want to come on
- 8:54Speaker 1: this podcast. I promise I'll be good. Okay, well, I
- 8:58Speaker 1: don't know if I worried about it a word, but
- 9:00Speaker 1: then I said, yeah, I don't know if Donald can
- 9:01Speaker 1: handle it. And then I said to him, what it
- 9:03Speaker 1: is your secret? Man, you don't seem to miss And
- 9:05Speaker 1: then he did that thing when you knock on your head,
- 9:07Speaker 1: like it's would you know, I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Since he's taken the reins, he literally has put out
- 9:15Speaker 1: great cinema after film, you know what I mean, like
- 9:18Speaker 1: all of the movies to television everything, even this what
- 9:21Speaker 1: if that's going on right now? You know what I mean?
- 9:23Speaker 1: That shit is amazing. Fire dude. It's like like he
- 9:27Speaker 1: like whatever Marvel is doing right now. I truly truly
- 9:31Speaker 1: wish some of my other favorite UH companies would focus
- 9:37Speaker 1: on you know what I mean. It's just like it's
- 9:39Speaker 1: just I met the director of wand Division two. That
- 9:44Speaker 1: great storytelling, man, great storytelling, just like creative storytelling too.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Catherine's so cool, man. I'm so happy that she's having
- 9:51Speaker 1: this this big break because she's so talented. But do
- 9:55Speaker 1: you see but do you see how it works? Zach?
- 9:57Speaker 1: Like all of these people put in this work and
- 9:59Speaker 1: they do all of this great work and small roles
- 10:02Speaker 1: or roles that were supposed to be big and never
- 10:06Speaker 1: make it. And then they find a home at Marvel,
- 10:09Speaker 1: and Marvel says, yeah, you know what, all of that
- 10:11Speaker 1: stuff you you know, all of that stuff is going
- 10:13Speaker 1: to pay dividends because in this world you're gonna be great. Now,
- 10:16Speaker 1: look at Catherine in that world. She's sucking an awesome
- 10:18Speaker 1: and awesome character, and I hope to see her again
- 10:21Speaker 1: a man. Yeah, although they told me that there's definitely
- 10:23Speaker 1: no more, I was I was like holding out, like
- 10:27Speaker 1: they're gonna give these guys tons of money and make
- 10:29Speaker 1: another season of that. Somehow, I guess they said no,
- 10:31Speaker 1: they just gonna leave it as a perfect little one
- 10:34Speaker 1: season thing. Yeah, it goes into it goes into movies. Bro,
- 10:38Speaker 1: it all goes into movies. So look, this is how
- 10:40Speaker 1: it is the next Doctor Strange movie. So this is okay.
- 10:45Speaker 1: So from my understanding, this is how it's gonna work
- 10:50Speaker 1: because it looks figy is this one of the smartest
- 10:54Speaker 1: freaking execs in Hollywood for this ship? Dude? Look so
- 10:58Speaker 1: three levels three levels of uh Superheroes is next? We
- 11:03Speaker 1: already had the multi Mega Ship where they all got together.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Now we're gonna have the Cosmic Avengers. We're gonna have
- 11:09Speaker 1: Earth's mighty Avengures, and then we have the freaking Avengers
- 11:13Speaker 1: of the Multiverse, the Multiverse Avengers, And that's where Doctor Strange,
- 11:17Speaker 1: Spider Man, Wanda, like Vision, all of these people are
- 11:22Speaker 1: a part of that. The galactic one is like thor
- 11:25Speaker 1: fucking uh Guardians of the Galaxy, uh, Nova Core, like
- 11:30Speaker 1: all of that, all nova, all of that stuff. Then
- 11:33Speaker 1: the Earth will be like you know, Spider Man's also
- 11:36Speaker 1: in the in the Multiverse one. But then what would
- 11:40Speaker 1: that be? That is that coton cosmic? It's not cosmic,
- 11:44Speaker 1: it would be what what would it be called? Verse?
- 11:47Speaker 1: I guess it would be the multiverse right right anyway,
- 11:51Speaker 1: And then you have the Earth one, and I don't
- 11:52Speaker 1: know who's gonna be in that one yet, but I'm guessing,
- 11:54Speaker 1: like she Hulk freaking uh get my some monstrosity in there,
- 12:01Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Or it could be the
- 12:04Speaker 1: Thunderbolts might be Earth. Can you imagine how thrilling that
- 12:07Speaker 1: would be? Captain Marvel is a cosmic Like the whole
- 12:14Speaker 1: shit is so fucking fire man, And it's like when
- 12:17Speaker 1: I was a kid, I dreamt of this, and now
- 12:19Speaker 1: here it comes. Here, it comes. Um, did you like
- 12:21Speaker 1: my outfit? You look great, right, so good so that
- 12:28Speaker 1: that people came into my Twitter comments to tell me
- 12:30Speaker 1: how good you looked. Okay, Zach looks so good tonight.
- 12:34Speaker 1: And I'm like, yes, indeed, I'm very sharp. I'm not
- 12:37Speaker 1: gonna lie. I was jealous of the way you were
- 12:39Speaker 1: looking at Bill when he was given that speech. There
- 12:42Speaker 1: was genuine love in your eyes. You were like, not
- 12:44Speaker 1: only was there genuine love, it was like it was like, dude,
- 12:48Speaker 1: I've never seen you more proud in my life. Well, dude,
- 12:52Speaker 1: I love him. And you know, he's been making TV
- 12:55Speaker 1: for so long, starting in Spin City and never got
- 12:58Speaker 1: an Emmy, never got acknowledged. Look at all the joy
- 13:02Speaker 1: he's brought to people from Spin City to Scrubs to
- 13:08Speaker 1: Cougar Town to Ted Lasso and lots of other ones
- 13:11Speaker 1: that he's you know, not his hands on, but overseas.
- 13:15Speaker 1: And look at all the joy and thousands of hours
- 13:18Speaker 1: that he's brought to people and never once got acknowledged.
- 13:21Speaker 1: And I'm and then I'm standing on that stage just
- 13:24Speaker 1: in the corner looking at him. I was just so proud.
- 13:26Speaker 1: I love him. Yeah, but let's just think about it,
- 13:29Speaker 1: think about all of the people that he introduced to
- 13:33Speaker 1: this world also, you know what I mean, Like, you know,
- 13:37Speaker 1: it's really important as anyone when you have the opportunity
- 13:44Speaker 1: to look over your shoulder and help somebody else or
- 13:47Speaker 1: bring other people with you, it's your duty to do that.
- 13:50Speaker 1: And Bill's done it quite a bit with you know.
- 13:54Speaker 1: I did a pilot with Brett Goldstein. I did a
- 13:56Speaker 1: pilot with him several years, but not sever this base one. Yeah,
- 14:01Speaker 1: with Bill, me, Bill, Brett Goldstein, a bunch of other
- 14:05Speaker 1: actors and actresses, like really a really good cast. And
- 14:09Speaker 1: it was just really awesome to see Brett win an
- 14:11Speaker 1: award because it was like, first of all, Bill bought him,
- 14:15Speaker 1: put him into pilot, and that pilot, the pilot didn't work,
- 14:19Speaker 1: and he found something else for him, and he found
- 14:22Speaker 1: some Not only did he find something else for him,
- 14:24Speaker 1: he found something that was perfect for him. And the
- 14:26Speaker 1: dude goes on to win an Emmy Man his first
- 14:28Speaker 1: time ever being nominated for Sterling says him, shut the
- 14:35Speaker 1: fuck up. Stone said, Hi, why, I had the funniest moment,
- 14:39Speaker 1: we're like Sterling said him, it always feels good when
- 14:50Speaker 1: when when UM get dead. Love you know what, I
- 14:53Speaker 1: shout out and shout out Sterling, Kay, listen, I'm on
- 14:57Speaker 1: the red I'm on the line to the red carpet.
- 14:59Speaker 1: And it's because most of the time you do these things,
- 15:01Speaker 1: there's publicists all around, and there's and there's lots and
- 15:04Speaker 1: lots of people that aren't the actors or the or
- 15:08Speaker 1: the people that are nominated to creative folks. But on
- 15:10Speaker 1: this one and been so pared down that no one,
- 15:12Speaker 1: no one had like a plus one. You're just standing there,
- 15:15Speaker 1: and again I was wondering, why wasn't with you, you know,
- 15:19Speaker 1: because I was rodering. I looked to the right and
- 15:22Speaker 1: there's Mandy Moore and and we're standing next to each other.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Um online, and we have feeling were you feeling it?
- 15:29Speaker 1: Like Candy? I know it. It was just funny. We
- 15:34Speaker 1: both had a laugh. If it's the paparazzi guy took
- 15:37Speaker 1: our picture and she goes, they should put that one
- 15:39Speaker 1: next to the one from us from like twenty years ago. Um,
- 15:42Speaker 1: but it was fun. We caught up and we told
- 15:44Speaker 1: stories and she's doing great and she looked beautiful and
- 15:48Speaker 1: just yeah, she's had a baby. It's just cool to
- 15:52Speaker 1: like be around people that you know, I've known you
- 15:54Speaker 1: know you, and I've been coming up alongside all these people.
- 15:57Speaker 1: So it's just fun to see people catch up. Gives. Um,
- 16:02Speaker 1: you know Billy Porter. I mean, I know Billy Porter
- 16:04Speaker 1: since we were I was about to say, dude, I
- 16:06Speaker 1: saw him outrageous outfit. I walked up to him and
- 16:09Speaker 1: I tried that on and chose not to wear it.
- 16:15Speaker 1: I told him they didn't have it in my size.
- 16:16Speaker 1: What do you say? He was cracking up, did you guys? Hug?
- 16:21Speaker 1: Of course, hug. I love that. Man. Yeah, man. I
- 16:23Speaker 1: watched Billy Porter back in a day on Broadway. My
- 16:26Speaker 1: best friend was an usher when he was a teenager
- 16:29Speaker 1: or not a teenager, just graduated high school. Uh, And
- 16:32Speaker 1: I used to go and get to see shows like
- 16:34Speaker 1: Five Guys Named Mo and Grease with Rosie O'Donnell when
- 16:38Speaker 1: it was on Broadway, and Billy Porter was an understudy
- 16:41Speaker 1: in Five Guys Named Mo. And I got to see
- 16:43Speaker 1: him perform once, and I remember being like, why why
- 16:45Speaker 1: the fuck is he the understudy? And then and then
- 16:49Speaker 1: and then I went and saw grease, and he was there.
- 16:52Speaker 1: He was beauty school dropout, he was any you blew it.
- 17:00Speaker 1: When we were doing um bullets over Broadway, he was
- 17:03Speaker 1: in kinky boots and and he called out of his show,
- 17:08Speaker 1: meaning he be telling this on the podcast, but fuck
- 17:11Speaker 1: it um, meaning like I'm too sick to go on today.
- 17:15Speaker 1: And then he came to see our show. He was
- 17:22Speaker 1: like wearing a baseball hat and ship low, trying to
- 17:25Speaker 1: be undertoo. You know he's fired when all your homophobic
- 17:29Speaker 1: friends are like Billy Porter, the best man. I don't
- 17:31Speaker 1: give a fuck with anybody. Say, you know, you might
- 17:35Speaker 1: know what people might know him from pose, but that
- 17:38Speaker 1: dude has the most insane voice you ever have heard.
- 17:41Speaker 1: All right, should get in the show Donald phase on.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Oh and then on the airport, I ran into dule
- 17:45Speaker 1: Hill and I sent you a picture of us. Saw
- 17:47Speaker 1: that you ain't loyal dude, and he said he loves you.
- 17:51Speaker 1: I told me he should do a podcast for psych
- 17:54Speaker 1: these Jose ain't loyal. All right, everybody, we're gonna about
- 18:00Speaker 1: the TV show strugg Now, five stories about show we
- 18:05Speaker 1: made about a bunch of nurses. Stories so yead around
- 18:17Speaker 1: here yet around here, all right. We got an episode
- 18:26Speaker 1: called My Fallen Idol, which was inspired I learned from
- 18:29Speaker 1: Wiki these Jose ain't loyal. I'm a little upset. No, no, man,
- 18:33Speaker 1: I'm not. I'm not over it. I'm not over this type.
- 18:36Speaker 1: And now I see why you didn't speak to Casey
- 18:38Speaker 1: for like a week after she told you she wanted
- 18:40Speaker 1: to bang Charlie hunt Um, Zach, I love you. Look
- 18:45Speaker 1: you got quiet, enjoy doing enjoy doing this podcast by
- 18:49Speaker 1: yourself today. I know what's funny about you Know what's
- 18:52Speaker 1: funny about Casey's story is that she was like, the
- 18:55Speaker 1: game was f mary kill And when she got to
- 18:58Speaker 1: her f she was like, I would sit, Zach, I
- 19:06Speaker 1: love you and just for that we have an early place. No, Casey,
- 19:17Speaker 1: come down here also these kids. And that's what it is.
- 19:28Speaker 1: You tell her what you said for this, You tell
- 19:30Speaker 1: her what you just said. Man, and you just caused
- 19:32Speaker 1: a big fight. I'm just gonna put it out there.
- 19:33Speaker 1: It's your fault. She's gonna be like, did y'all play
- 19:40Speaker 1: my theme song? Hi? He's so jealous? Oh god, what happened? Well?
- 19:50Speaker 1: I'm telling him out at the Emmys who all the
- 19:52Speaker 1: people I ran into? And he's not happy? He's he's jealous,
- 19:57Speaker 1: and he's jealous that I had a drink with dule Hill.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Well he feels like you cheated on him. I know,
- 20:04Speaker 1: he's saying these hose ain't loyal. Well, you know, I
- 20:09Speaker 1: was a little upset you were jealous on behalf of
- 20:15Speaker 1: Donald that I was hanging out. Who's this other black guy?
- 20:21Speaker 1: How dare he? How dare he? What the fuck? Douley
- 20:26Speaker 1: was just sitting there mining his own business. But I
- 20:28Speaker 1: like to drink mimosas when I fly, So I was like, Doulay,
- 20:31Speaker 1: you want a mimosa. He goes, in fact, I will
- 20:34Speaker 1: have a mimosa mimosa. And then we took it and
- 20:38Speaker 1: I said, pull your mask down. We got to take
- 20:40Speaker 1: a picture for Donald. And then Donald put it on
- 20:42Speaker 1: Instagram saying these hose ain't loyal. And I saw that.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I saw that you've been tagged due. Yeah, was like,
- 20:51Speaker 1: come on, man, is this the drink? You know? The
- 20:56Speaker 1: love is deep over here. I know, I will tell
- 20:59Speaker 1: you this. So he almost cried when you didn't win.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I know, I almost did a sweet and he was
- 21:05Speaker 1: recording and I was recording the TV. And then I
- 21:08Speaker 1: was like, well, who the hell is that chick. So
- 21:12Speaker 1: we had to cut the recording off because I was
- 21:15Speaker 1: talking shit about all the other nuns. I think it's
- 21:17Speaker 1: so cute though, that you guys were recording your reactions
- 21:19Speaker 1: because you were so sure I was gonna win. I
- 21:22Speaker 1: was for sure one day, one day, I win one
- 21:24Speaker 1: for the team. Next time, next all right, send him back.
- 21:27Speaker 1: We got to do a show. Okay, all right. I
- 21:30Speaker 1: miss you, guys, love you. Just like seeing you because
- 21:34Speaker 1: it means we get to hear your theme song. I know,
- 21:37Speaker 1: I love it. Is that ringtone coming? I don't, don't
- 21:41Speaker 1: Joell doesn't reply to my ring tone request? What? Oh
- 21:44Speaker 1: my god? Okay, So my fallen idol was inspired by
- 21:51Speaker 1: an episode of Mash I learned um where there's a
- 21:54Speaker 1: very similar story line UM involving Hawkeye and Radar just
- 22:00Speaker 1: a little bit of tidbit um. So it's pretty cool.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Tidbit where'd you find us out? This is on Scrubs Wiki,
- 22:07Speaker 1: So Wicky could have made this shit up. They don't know. Listen,
- 22:09Speaker 1: we had a lot of funny stuff in this episode.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I always I started off like not laughing, and then
- 22:14Speaker 1: at all you're laughing. It's a slow start. Hold up,
- 22:18Speaker 1: what's up? With this doctor with taking everybody's pants off.
- 22:21Speaker 1: This isn't the first time we've seen this. Yeah, he's
- 22:23Speaker 1: just his thing. I I don't know if it's supposed
- 22:26Speaker 1: to be that he's gay and likes to look at
- 22:29Speaker 1: men's packages or I mean, what could be the only
- 22:31Speaker 1: other reason when Turk found out he had diabetes. Wasn't
- 22:34Speaker 1: he in his underwear? Yes? Yes, guy, this guy's got
- 22:38Speaker 1: pink eye and another guy has mole and a mole
- 22:40Speaker 1: and they have to take their pants off. Yeah, I
- 22:43Speaker 1: think it's just pink pants off. So Cox has a
- 22:50Speaker 1: big meltdown because of losing the three patients. Um he
- 22:53Speaker 1: leaves the hospital. He comes to work drunk, j freaking
- 22:58Speaker 1: freaks out by the JD does not like It's not
- 23:02Speaker 1: that he doesn't like it, he was also freaked out
- 23:04Speaker 1: by it, like kind of fucks him up, Like you know,
- 23:07Speaker 1: he turns his back on his mentor well, he's he's
- 23:10Speaker 1: his hero. And to see someone you look up to
- 23:13Speaker 1: fall Like if I saw Bill like in the fetal
- 23:16Speaker 1: position because his show got canceled, I think I'd be
- 23:18Speaker 1: freaked out. I'd be like, Bro, I need you to
- 23:23Speaker 1: be like my leader, my leader, not like you need
- 23:27Speaker 1: to not be this right now, bro, Yeah, right, so
- 23:29Speaker 1: I understand it. Um, Gloria, we get we get clear
- 23:34Speaker 1: that Gloria is in fact with Leonard and she's never
- 23:37Speaker 1: going back. Dude, She's never going back because of the expression,
- 23:41Speaker 1: once you go black, you never go back. But then
- 23:44Speaker 1: Leonard loves him some white meat. Yeah, Leonard love white meat.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Not only does he love white meat, he thanks God
- 23:51Speaker 1: pretty much. God. I love me some white meat. Is
- 23:54Speaker 1: that what he says? I love me some white meat? Yeah? Um, yeah,
- 23:58Speaker 1: there's an expression, once you go black, you never go back.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I like to say, as a Jewish person, once you
- 24:04Speaker 1: go tribe, you've got to subscribe. You must subscribe. Oh
- 24:11Speaker 1: my gosh. Um, we learned that um Barry um Elliot's
- 24:19Speaker 1: brother was sent to Heterocamp. Yikes. This sounds like that
- 24:26Speaker 1: brother that's on I'm freaking on the on the internet
- 24:29Speaker 1: now that was delivered from being gay and he's like,
- 24:33Speaker 1: I'm not gay no more, trying to fight the demon down.
- 24:40Speaker 1: I love Winnings. Was that like an evangelist video? This
- 24:47Speaker 1: is a real video like this, This dude, I don't know,
- 24:49Speaker 1: I don't know much about the gentleman, you know what
- 24:52Speaker 1: I mean? But he said that, but he believed he
- 24:54Speaker 1: had been converted, right. I don't know if he's gay
- 24:57Speaker 1: again now or if he's not gay anymore. I don't know.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Like you know, I don't think you can pray the
- 25:01Speaker 1: gay away, you know, he can't. I don't. I I
- 25:06Speaker 1: come from that also, I feel the same way. But
- 25:09Speaker 1: there are people that are holding their true feelings inside
- 25:15Speaker 1: in the name of their religion. And yeah, that's very scary. Yeah,
- 25:19Speaker 1: it's very scary. Yeah. Um okay, So Carl is very
- 25:24Speaker 1: hormonal and very worked up. Yes, she she comes up
- 25:28Speaker 1: with the plan that we're all going to take turns
- 25:30Speaker 1: monitoring doctor Cox. Yes. Then we learned there's a donkey
- 25:34Speaker 1: boy in the ICU. Yeah, the face that you and
- 25:37Speaker 1: I make when the janitor says I was like, no way.
- 25:42Speaker 1: And then I was like, oh my god, there's a
- 25:45Speaker 1: donkey boy in the ICU. And then Keunsel goes, for
- 25:48Speaker 1: God's sake, stree, there's a donkey boy. Um. Still, then
- 25:53Speaker 1: we go see the donkey boy and he's just a boy.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Well first he looks like a donkey and then and
- 25:58Speaker 1: then the fan he's over and he just looks like
- 26:01Speaker 1: a boy with buck teeth. Then what's crazy is we
- 26:05Speaker 1: learned that Kelso invites us to a donkey show. Yes,
- 26:09Speaker 1: I understand it. I don't know much. I've never been
- 26:11Speaker 1: to one. But is it where where does a woman
- 26:14Speaker 1: pleasure a donkey? Is that what happens? John? Yeah? Or
- 26:17Speaker 1: a donkey's pleasured but yes, or a donkey pleasure as
- 26:20Speaker 1: a woman. One of them, one of those two things.
- 26:23Speaker 1: One of the son there enjoys it. Now we also
- 26:27Speaker 1: learned that that he goes every Thursday. Yes, it's a
- 26:30Speaker 1: standing invitation, standing invitation. So wait, now listen, So not
- 26:36Speaker 1: only into Korean prostitutes. I forgot if they were Korean.
- 26:43Speaker 1: It's either Korean a Filipino. I think it's Korean Filipino.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Sounds too hard to say. Yeah, he's into Korean prostitutes. Yes,
- 26:51Speaker 1: a donkey shows once a week. He's also into bestiality. Yeah,
- 26:57Speaker 1: what is next? Well, I mean the donkey Yeah, once
- 27:02Speaker 1: you get to the donkey part, Yes, it gets a
- 27:03Speaker 1: little twisted. One donkey show. Listen if you were like
- 27:06Speaker 1: in your life, I don't I think if you're in like,
- 27:09Speaker 1: where do they do donkey shows? Like? Um? Like nowhere? No,
- 27:16Speaker 1: don't put that on Thailand. Dude, don't do that. What
- 27:19Speaker 1: is even happening? Joel? Can you learn where and where
- 27:23Speaker 1: and where do they do donkey? No? You know she
- 27:25Speaker 1: doesn't want that on her search engine. Jellet reminders. Daniel
- 27:32Speaker 1: will tell you don't forget that donkey show tonight, Joe, Yeah,
- 27:39Speaker 1: incognito mode. Joel's gonna get email. It's like, hey, there's
- 27:43Speaker 1: a donkey show in your area. Where do they do?
- 27:48Speaker 1: I think it's either you wanna or bank hark. I
- 27:51Speaker 1: think you're right with I think TJ might be I
- 27:54Speaker 1: think t J might be better. I'm not gonna lie.
- 27:57Speaker 1: I just googled where do they do donkey shows? And
- 28:00Speaker 1: as opposed to you know how like Google will give
- 28:02Speaker 1: you like an answer up top, as opposed to just
- 28:04Speaker 1: links straight up Tijuana, Mexico. Yeah, there you go. Wow.
- 28:10Speaker 1: So if you're interested in this kind of thing, now
- 28:13Speaker 1: we assume that Scrubs takes place in Los Angeles. Maybe
- 28:16Speaker 1: it's close to Mexico. Maybe you're saying that he goes
- 28:19Speaker 1: to TJ everything, Maybe he maybe he maybe Scrubs takes place. No,
- 28:24Speaker 1: because because Elliot has to take a train to go
- 28:26Speaker 1: to Sea World, so that wouldn't work. No, it doesn't
- 28:29Speaker 1: work right. Why would Elliot have to take a long train,
- 28:33Speaker 1: a midnight train train midnight train to um So. Wait
- 28:39Speaker 1: a second, unless Kelso doesn't go to Tijuana every Thursday.
- 28:44Speaker 1: He knows an underground donkey show. Yeah, it could be
- 28:48Speaker 1: black market donkey show. A black market underground donkey show. Okay,
- 28:52Speaker 1: that's probably more likely. Yea um, but never Nevertheless, Turk
- 28:56Speaker 1: and j D pass on the donkey show standing invitation,
- 29:00Speaker 1: and they pass on every version of that invitation. Then
- 29:03Speaker 1: we hear Jack's first words, daddy drinks a lot. Yes, unfortunate,
- 29:09Speaker 1: it's gonna be sucked up. I remember that there was
- 29:12Speaker 1: those were twin boys, and that they must have just
- 29:15Speaker 1: learned to talk because they never had a line before.
- 29:17Speaker 1: I don't think Todd. Todd tells the nurse, nurse, I
- 29:24Speaker 1: need you to drain some fluid, and then I need
- 29:26Speaker 1: you to help me with this patient. Boy can't exist.
- 29:35Speaker 1: He can't exist in this world and in real life.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Todd does not exist in real life. If you're a
- 29:40Speaker 1: Todd in real life, you've been fired and you're sitting
- 29:42Speaker 1: at home right now, like, what the fuck did I do?
- 29:44Speaker 1: You're a Todd in real life, and you haven't been fired,
- 29:46Speaker 1: then you should be. Um right, you've slipped me. I
- 29:50Speaker 1: come to hug you in college and I've got my
- 29:52Speaker 1: mullet and this made me laugh so hard. You flipped me,
- 29:56Speaker 1: and then I go, you're sports Tea. At first, I run,
- 29:59Speaker 1: do you. I go, you're sport It's team won the
- 30:00Speaker 1: World Series. And then you flip me and I go
- 30:03Speaker 1: a gland slam. So Turk was not into hugging. Turks
- 30:13Speaker 1: out into hugging. Now, well, certain people just not this
- 30:23Speaker 1: new orthopedic surgeon, which is really weird. Like, first of all,
- 30:29Speaker 1: I don't know you well enough for you to be
- 30:32Speaker 1: all up on my shoulder like that, like Turk, like,
- 30:35Speaker 1: I don't know. I think this is for it. This
- 30:37Speaker 1: goes for anyone. If you just meet somebody and they're
- 30:40Speaker 1: freaking damn near noogieing you when they talk to you
- 30:43Speaker 1: and stuff like that, your feelings for that person are
- 30:46Speaker 1: gonna definitely be one agro and two be a little
- 30:50Speaker 1: put up, like you don't necessarily want to be around
- 30:53Speaker 1: somebody like that. And so it makes perfect sense that
- 30:55Speaker 1: Turk is like that. Not because the dudes are SENSI,
- 30:58Speaker 1: but the dude is freaking really really really, Like if
- 31:01Speaker 1: you watch them in and they're in surgery and this
- 31:04Speaker 1: guy's like, fucking gravitu, I get over here, can you
- 31:07Speaker 1: and me? Guy? I don't person Adelstein who played him,
- 31:13Speaker 1: and he was very funny. I thought he did a
- 31:15Speaker 1: very good job, very funny. But that's that's just my point.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I don't think that's the fact that the guy's a sensey.
- 31:21Speaker 1: I know it says it in the script, but I
- 31:22Speaker 1: think the annoying thing is that the guy's like, you know,
- 31:26Speaker 1: damn j's j D's description of a sense Our music
- 31:30Speaker 1: choices are acoustic alternative. We marveled at fireflies, and the
- 31:36Speaker 1: only copying we do if our friend, if our female
- 31:39Speaker 1: friend is drunk, is coppying her hair back to help
- 31:42Speaker 1: her puke. Now you go, sure, we cop a feel,
- 31:48Speaker 1: but we cop a field by pulling her hair back. Um. Yeah,
- 31:55Speaker 1: So you upset the the orthopedic surgeon because saying he's yes,
- 32:01Speaker 1: and Rob has the intercome on of course, and then
- 32:03Speaker 1: you're like, oh, who's this guy? The most most sensitive
- 32:06Speaker 1: guy in the world. And then you see JD go
- 32:08Speaker 1: to give the surgeon a hug, Right, is there anyone else?
- 32:11Speaker 1: Could there it's pretty much a freaking Matthew Perry joke
- 32:14Speaker 1: from Friends. Could there be one more sensitive? And then
- 32:18Speaker 1: here you go and so he's hugging men. I go,
- 32:20Speaker 1: it's a little tight. I know, I go a little tighter. Ye, No,
- 32:23Speaker 1: that's too tight. There's there's a good spot. It's like
- 32:28Speaker 1: there's a good medium or something like it said, there's
- 32:31Speaker 1: a good spot. So this parachute is Remember Sarah was
- 32:36Speaker 1: on the show and she talked about the stuntman who
- 32:38Speaker 1: played the guy who parachutes and hits her. How um
- 32:43Speaker 1: he was quite older than than she expected. And it
- 32:47Speaker 1: was a very weird day for her because she had
- 32:51Speaker 1: to make out with the guy because they wasn't like
- 32:54Speaker 1: you know, oftentimes if you just have to make out
- 32:55Speaker 1: with a random guy, they'll be like, oh, Sarah, do
- 32:57Speaker 1: you want to pick one of these guys who has
- 32:59Speaker 1: to be the rand them guy you make out with.
- 33:01Speaker 1: You know, you might pick someone you're at least a
- 33:02Speaker 1: little bit of tracking too. Because it was a stunt
- 33:04Speaker 1: man and he was just the guy who showed up
- 33:06Speaker 1: that day, they were like Sarah, oh, and then you'll
- 33:08Speaker 1: be making out with Jim and he was like He's
- 33:11Speaker 1: like yeah, with no teeth in his mouth and just
- 33:13Speaker 1: one yellow tooth with all the fucking plaque on it. Yeah,
- 33:17Speaker 1: and poor Sarah make out. Okay, So we got to
- 33:21Speaker 1: get into this because this made me laugh really hard
- 33:24Speaker 1: and we talked about it on this on this podcast
- 33:26Speaker 1: a lot. But the more you know that was so funny.
- 33:32Speaker 1: This is that shit was hilariously. You come home, I
- 33:38Speaker 1: wrote it down, tough day at the office, so you
- 33:40Speaker 1: come home, smother your kids, pop in a movie, maybe
- 33:43Speaker 1: I have a drink. It's fun, right, No, don't smother
- 33:46Speaker 1: your kids. The more you know, Dan'll play that. That's
- 33:55Speaker 1: one of the memes that's been sent to me most
- 33:57Speaker 1: in my whole Scrubs career. Is this The more you
- 34:00Speaker 1: know thing sounds fun right, wrong, Don't smother your kids,
- 34:05Speaker 1: don't you kids? And by the way, and didn't even
- 34:08Speaker 1: the off balance walk out, like the off balance in
- 34:11Speaker 1: the video where you're like, yeah, those things were so cheesy.
- 34:14Speaker 1: You would you hit it perfectly. You kind of would
- 34:16Speaker 1: strut out after you drop knowledge on everybody, but you'd
- 34:19Speaker 1: have to be but it's like you're off balance, like
- 34:21Speaker 1: your knowledge is so powerful that it kind of throws
- 34:23Speaker 1: you off. I was spoofing how everyone some people like
- 34:27Speaker 1: they lean against the wall and then they push off.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Some people listening to this, they're probably too young to
- 34:31Speaker 1: remember these. But there was always sort of a walk
- 34:34Speaker 1: away with attitude thing, right, dude. I remember going there Mustick.
- 34:38Speaker 1: I even got it into one of the More you
- 34:40Speaker 1: Knows where I literally sang it. I was like the
- 34:43Speaker 1: more you know? No, did you ever have to do more?
- 34:47Speaker 1: You know commercials? Did you do anything? I don't know
- 34:50Speaker 1: if I ever did a real one. Oh, dude, I
- 34:52Speaker 1: did a real one. I did real ones for it.
- 34:53Speaker 1: I was so happy when they were like, do you
- 34:55Speaker 1: want to do it more? You know commercial? I was like, fuck, yeah,
- 34:57Speaker 1: I want to do them more. You know, while you
- 34:58Speaker 1: were on Scrubs. The only time I could do it
- 35:01Speaker 1: we were on NBC. Oh, because it was NBC's thing. Um.
- 35:04Speaker 1: By the way, j D gives an indices from Scrubs Wicky.
- 35:07Speaker 1: JD gives an incorrect description of Munchausen syndrome. When someone
- 35:11Speaker 1: fakes or induces an illness in themselves, it's called Munchausen syndrome.
- 35:17Speaker 1: When they do it to someone else, such as a child,
- 35:20Speaker 1: it's called Munchausen syndrome by proxy, which is what's actually
- 35:25Speaker 1: being checked for in the episode. So there's the but hey,
- 35:35Speaker 1: does much have Housen syndrome have anything to do with
- 35:38Speaker 1: Baron Munchausen the movie? Yeah? I don't think think so.
- 35:43Speaker 1: But let me did you see the Joey King movie
- 35:45Speaker 1: on Hulu about the true story of the mom who
- 35:48Speaker 1: was like drugging her kid to make her feel like
- 35:51Speaker 1: telling her she was sick. That was Munchausen syndrome by proxy.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Eminem has that in one of his songs, Um all right,
- 36:02Speaker 1: Ted's band singing put on a happy Face was delightful, amazing.
- 36:06Speaker 1: They looked great too. Yeah, and Cox did not want
- 36:09Speaker 1: them there. Very special that we get the appearance first
- 36:13Speaker 1: and only, I think appearance of Knife French Nie friend.
- 36:17Speaker 1: I feel like it was okay, but that was very
- 36:19Speaker 1: funny Nie French, practical and safe and then he stabs himself.
- 36:26Speaker 1: No and yeah, it comes back later and he goes
- 36:28Speaker 1: for kids nine. Friend. Now, I think this menthal Spray
- 36:34Speaker 1: thing is so funny. This is real. By the way,
- 36:36Speaker 1: those of you who aren't in Hollywood, when someone can't
- 36:39Speaker 1: cry and or or you did cry, and those continuities wrong,
- 36:45Speaker 1: They will spray or now I guess they're doing it
- 36:48Speaker 1: more and more digitally, but they can also spray this
- 36:50Speaker 1: little menthal spray in your eyes, which not spray, they
- 36:54Speaker 1: blow it, and it just it's like you have halls
- 36:57Speaker 1: in your eyeball and they just start tearing and it
- 37:00Speaker 1: makes you look like you're crying and you can can
- 37:02Speaker 1: I just say one thing. Yeah, It makes it so
- 37:06Speaker 1: that JD's able to tell the story about his German funny.
- 37:13Speaker 1: I remember shooting that scene. This is the one scene.
- 37:16Speaker 1: This is the one scene out of the whole episode.
- 37:19Speaker 1: I remember shooting that. I remember sitting across from you.
- 37:24Speaker 1: We laughed about this quite a bit, quite a bit,
- 37:27Speaker 1: I remember us laughing about it. We got through the
- 37:29Speaker 1: scene pretty fast, but I remember us laughing about this
- 37:32Speaker 1: part quite a bit. Last night, my and just how
- 37:35Speaker 1: nonchalant lead in my German financier Hans dot on the
- 37:39Speaker 1: audible and I have to shoot doctor Accula on my
- 37:41Speaker 1: cell phone. But I was also I was stealing the
- 37:47Speaker 1: mental a lot of the mentals. I guess there's a
- 37:50Speaker 1: lot of crying in Doctor Accula. I guess so, I
- 37:52Speaker 1: guess so, I guess so because wouldn't you love to
- 37:57Speaker 1: see the cell phone video footage of Jad's attempts to
- 38:02Speaker 1: shoot doctor Acula. I'm not gonna lie to you. I
- 38:05Speaker 1: want to just see doctor Acula happen. I kind of
- 38:08Speaker 1: want that to happen. My dying wish more than well,
- 38:11Speaker 1: don't die yet, but I kind of. But before they
- 38:14Speaker 1: put me in the ground, I want to I want
- 38:18Speaker 1: to see doctor Acula. Munchausen syndrome was named after a
- 38:21Speaker 1: German cavalry officer, Baron von Munchausen. Baron Munchausen, a man
- 38:26Speaker 1: who traveled widely and was known for his dramatic but
- 38:29Speaker 1: untruthful stories. Wow, Yeah, you were right. In nineteen fifty one,
- 38:33Speaker 1: Richard Asher described a pattern of self abuse where individuals
- 38:37Speaker 1: fabricated histories of illness. These fabrications most often led to
- 38:41Speaker 1: complex medical investigations, hospitalizations, and needless surgery. Remembering Baron von
- 38:46Speaker 1: Munchausen and his mythical tales, Asher named this condition Munchausen syndrome. Wow, Donald,
- 38:52Speaker 1: I'm sorry when you said that I laughed at you.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Take it back. I do take it back. I'm sorry
- 38:58Speaker 1: that I doubted your cleverness. Okay, So what we've learned today. One,
- 39:06Speaker 1: Zach did not win the Emmy. We were all kissed
- 39:08Speaker 1: about it. Two Donald Fay zounds pretty clever. Three we're
- 39:14Speaker 1: gonna be right back. We're going to commercial brain ever bad.
- 39:26Speaker 1: I like when I'm telling you, I'm trying to get
- 39:28Speaker 1: this plan going where you're gonna show the orthopedic surgeon
- 39:31Speaker 1: that you're a sense he and he goes to hug colonel,
- 39:36Speaker 1: Colonel doctor, and I go, it's gonna take Okay, we
- 39:39Speaker 1: got seven seconds and you go a hug, take seven
- 39:42Speaker 1: seconds and I go a good one good. And then
- 39:50Speaker 1: when we're about to go, I go, okay. Yeah. The
- 39:56Speaker 1: music at the end was very moving. Um, Gary Jules, well,
- 40:00Speaker 1: let's talk about the monologue first, dude, go ahead, Okay,
- 40:04Speaker 1: did you think of it? What did you think of it?
- 40:06Speaker 1: I remember watching this monologue. It's not often that I
- 40:10Speaker 1: remember a lot of the shows that we do, but
- 40:13Speaker 1: I remember or watching the shows that we did together.
- 40:16Speaker 1: I remembered us doing the Acculas scene doctor Acculas Syne,
- 40:21Speaker 1: and I remembered watching this monologue. I don't know why
- 40:24Speaker 1: I remember it so much. Maybe I had maybe Johnny
- 40:27Speaker 1: brought me in for it to watch it. Or maybe
- 40:30Speaker 1: John Michelle brought me in to watch it. I don't
- 40:32Speaker 1: know what it was, but I watched. I remember watching
- 40:35Speaker 1: that monologue over and over again, and it has some
- 40:37Speaker 1: really great beats. And my favorite beat is when you
- 40:41Speaker 1: tell them that you're proud of him because you know
- 40:45Speaker 1: he cares so much about his patients. And that's not
- 40:48Speaker 1: something that a lot of doctors here nowadays, because you know,
- 40:53Speaker 1: a lot of let's keep it honest to survive in
- 40:57Speaker 1: a hospital, you can't feel that way. And it was
- 40:59Speaker 1: just a great moment in Scrub's history and in the
- 41:02Speaker 1: medical field, because when you find a doctor like that,
- 41:04Speaker 1: it really does, you know, it really does go along
- 41:07Speaker 1: where you talk about, you know, Amanda's doctor and how
- 41:11Speaker 1: you know he truly put a lot of effort in
- 41:17Speaker 1: to helping save Nick and that they became sort of
- 41:19Speaker 1: like a family and everything like that. Now and now
- 41:22Speaker 1: he's her doctor. Uh, you don't necessarily hear stories like that,
- 41:26Speaker 1: And you know, shout out to Scrubs for showing the
- 41:31Speaker 1: other side of it, because we we did for a
- 41:33Speaker 1: really long time make fun of, or not make fun of,
- 41:37Speaker 1: but make light of very serious situations. And this is
- 41:41Speaker 1: a this is a moment in this in the Scrub's
- 41:45Speaker 1: history where where it really affects one of our heroes
- 41:50Speaker 1: and we show what they go through. I do feel
- 41:52Speaker 1: at the end, however, that it's a quick turnaround because
- 41:56Speaker 1: of what JD says to him. I do feel like
- 41:59Speaker 1: his falling out of his depression is very fast and well,
- 42:03Speaker 1: I don't know if it was meant to be that night.
- 42:05Speaker 1: I think it maybe that's it. I used inferred that
- 42:08Speaker 1: was like a week later. Oh, is that how you
- 42:10Speaker 1: looked at it? Yeah, I looked I looked at it
- 42:12Speaker 1: as that night, but it was very It's a very
- 42:15Speaker 1: you know, you know, the medical field, the you know,
- 42:20Speaker 1: a lot of people on the front line that we
- 42:22Speaker 1: talk about they're human and we've made them to be
- 42:24Speaker 1: heroes because they are obviously, but they're human too at
- 42:28Speaker 1: the end of the day, and everything that you know,
- 42:31Speaker 1: frontline workers are going through right now, it affects them.
- 42:37Speaker 1: And you know, we talk about kids in masks, and
- 42:40Speaker 1: we talk about us and masks, but let's talk about
- 42:43Speaker 1: like how this is going to affect them in the future,
- 42:45Speaker 1: how it affects people who have had to see death
- 42:47Speaker 1: over and over again in the future, how it's how
- 42:50Speaker 1: that's how that's going to affect them, and we don't
- 42:52Speaker 1: talk about that enough. I think, yeah, um, and unfortunately
- 42:58Speaker 1: it's not going anywhere. I don't know we're gonna be
- 43:01Speaker 1: with this for a very long time. Yeah, but I
- 43:03Speaker 1: think I But I also think that you know, doctors,
- 43:07Speaker 1: just to get back on it, we don't talk about
- 43:09Speaker 1: the emotion that they carry. Don't you going to mention
- 43:15Speaker 1: how good my acting is? Is that going to come
- 43:16Speaker 1: up at all? Well? I thought I did. When I
- 43:19Speaker 1: said this seem very indirect, you said that it was
- 43:22Speaker 1: moving to oh it was such a great Okay, well,
- 43:25Speaker 1: the way you delivered it was really great. And I
- 43:31Speaker 1: definitely you know, Zach, you're a very talented person, and
- 43:37Speaker 1: you're a very very very bright person. And I often
- 43:40Speaker 1: say that you're directing is like, you know, top notch,
- 43:44Speaker 1: and I think you should direct Star Wars and Marvel
- 43:46Speaker 1: and all of that stuff. But this was a moment
- 43:49Speaker 1: where I watched you on, where I watched you act
- 43:53Speaker 1: and perform, where I was very very impressed, And I
- 43:55Speaker 1: want to give you a shout out for that. Thank you.
- 43:57Speaker 1: I appreciate that unprompted compliment it. Thank you. I thought
- 44:03Speaker 1: it's a powerful scene and I like it. Yeah, you
- 44:06Speaker 1: know I didn't. And you know it's a total straight
- 44:08Speaker 1: scene between me and Johnny. And the music was beautiful,
- 44:12Speaker 1: Gary Jewels singing something else and uh, and then that
- 44:15Speaker 1: funny button where I try and drink Scotch and he goes,
- 44:18Speaker 1: you don't drink scotch and I spit it back in
- 44:20Speaker 1: the cup and then no, I try and that cool.
- 44:26Speaker 1: I get sent fancy bottles of Scotch and whiskey as presents,
- 44:29Speaker 1: and I always am like, okay, I'd like google it,
- 44:31Speaker 1: like wow, this is a really expensive bottle. Let me
- 44:33Speaker 1: try this, And every time I'm like, it tastes like
- 44:35Speaker 1: paint dinner. You should call me up. I'll drink it
- 44:38Speaker 1: for you. Okay, I have a really pricey one that
- 44:42Speaker 1: Apple sent me here. Oh really, okay, you guys can
- 44:46Speaker 1: try it. Do you like scotch, Dane, Nah, So well
- 44:49Speaker 1: that's not. It tastes like t is like candy to me. Man,
- 44:53Speaker 1: anybody's obviously it's anyone who's a scott Yeah, anyone who's
- 44:57Speaker 1: a Scotch drinker. There's certain Scotch just like mccau I'm
- 45:00Speaker 1: gonna tast something right now, that should tastes like sugar
- 45:02Speaker 1: going down. Well, listen, there's no such thing as a
- 45:06Speaker 1: person that didn't acquire that taste. No one tasted scotch.
- 45:09Speaker 1: It was like mmmmm, now you're absolutely right, no one.
- 45:13Speaker 1: No one tasted alcohol period and was like, this is
- 45:15Speaker 1: the best thing ever. Agree, well, I think wine probably, No, man,
- 45:20Speaker 1: that's just all poison. Literally, you're drinking poison. For all
- 45:23Speaker 1: of you out there who don't know, you are literally
- 45:26Speaker 1: drinking poison. Yeah, your body's having a reaction to something
- 45:29Speaker 1: it doesn't watch, it's having a reaction to poison. Yes,
- 45:32Speaker 1: to poison. All right, That girl is poison. Never trust
- 45:42Speaker 1: a big button smile at girl is Never trust a
- 45:45Speaker 1: big button a smile, Daniel, whether it be on a
- 45:48Speaker 1: girl or a boy. I was listening. I'm obsessed with
- 45:52Speaker 1: this podcast um called Team Deacons. For those of you
- 45:56Speaker 1: don't know, Roger Deakons is largely considered one of the
- 45:59Speaker 1: greatest cinematographers of all time, and he has he did
- 46:04Speaker 1: he DP Empire strikes Back. I don't think so, but
- 46:10Speaker 1: if you google the movies shot by Roger Deakins, there
- 46:13Speaker 1: will be some of the most that is a fucking
- 46:17Speaker 1: fire movie. Peter Shishitzky did Empire Strikes Back. I worked
- 46:22Speaker 1: with Peter Shishiski, a guy I used to pay with
- 46:25Speaker 1: first Ad Garden State, and he became a big FIRSTDD
- 46:28Speaker 1: and now he literally just does the most the biggest
- 46:30Speaker 1: movies in the world. He does the Bond movies. He
- 46:32Speaker 1: did nineteen seventeen. And yeah, Deakins doesn't just have cinematographers on.
- 46:38Speaker 1: He as other people in different positions. And he had
- 46:40Speaker 1: Lurhman on today and I'm like listening and I'm like,
- 46:42Speaker 1: oh my god, Oh my god. And all of a sudden,
- 46:44Speaker 1: Roger Deakins, who's like living legend, is like, now, tell
- 46:48Speaker 1: me about Garden State. And Michael's like, yeah, so Zach,
- 46:53Speaker 1: and I uh. Rogers like, yeah, we just watched that
- 46:56Speaker 1: film because we're gonna have Larry cheron and uh wow.
- 47:02Speaker 1: And I'm like, oh, I'm like, oh my god. And
- 47:04Speaker 1: then and then Mike Michael's like, yeah, Zach used to
- 47:07Speaker 1: we used to pe a together. He was a horrible
- 47:09Speaker 1: pa and oh wow. And they all laugh and Deacons goes, well,
- 47:13Speaker 1: it's a good thing he going into acting. Then that's funny.
- 47:19Speaker 1: That's funny. Yes, here by the way, Yeah, we'll be
- 47:24Speaker 1: right back and we're back. We've been back. Dude. I
- 47:34Speaker 1: don't know why, Joelle, are you recording? Because um, sometimes
- 47:38Speaker 1: you don't record the guests. One time, what time happened? Okay,
- 47:43Speaker 1: I got well, you know why you didn't record? He
- 47:48Speaker 1: no technical glitch in here? I thought I did. You
- 47:54Speaker 1: don't need to do We out agreement that you don't
- 47:56Speaker 1: do weed during the show. It's doing. It's vape. Just
- 48:00Speaker 1: stick up them clothes, babes. Doesn't stack up your clothes
- 48:03Speaker 1: doesn okay, okay, anyway, all right, tell me the guest.
- 48:10Speaker 1: It's uncontrated. Th HC. It's strong. He doesn't keep his word.
- 48:19Speaker 1: He doesn't keep his word. Yes, here already, Yes, we
- 48:22Speaker 1: got a call. You can talk some you know, like
- 48:29Speaker 1: a boll of smoke, some jazz, maybe talking about the episode.
- 48:35Speaker 1: So come on, Joe, let's get the ladies and gentlemen.
- 48:42Speaker 1: Give me it up for Oh my gosh, Oh my god,
- 48:54Speaker 1: it's hark, it's har how's it going, guys? Good dude, Joel,
- 48:59Speaker 1: that was a quick turnaround. Oh my gosh, wow, bumping
- 49:04Speaker 1: your you're so we for the audience. It's Archie. He
- 49:12Speaker 1: made a remix that he put on Twitter of me
- 49:15Speaker 1: and Donald talking Archie. What do you what do you?
- 49:17Speaker 1: What do you do? You're a DJ where you would
- 49:19Speaker 1: make beats? What do you do? Um? I know, I'm
- 49:23Speaker 1: a full time cook at our family's restaurant. Nice. Oh
- 49:28Speaker 1: where's your family's restaurant? Now? We are in the small
- 49:31Speaker 1: little town in Alaska known as ketch a can catch
- 49:35Speaker 1: you can Alaska? Ketch you can Alaska. That's not that
- 49:39Speaker 1: tiny town where everyone lives in one building, is it? No? No, No,
- 49:43Speaker 1: that's not it. Um. We're in like very like if
- 49:46Speaker 1: you were to like look at a map of Alaska.
- 49:48Speaker 1: This is like a hand map of Alaska, like at
- 49:50Speaker 1: the very southeast of it. Right there, we're about an
- 49:54Speaker 1: hour if you were to fly to see it's like
- 49:57Speaker 1: close to Seattle. It's very very close to Seattle, about
- 50:00Speaker 1: an hour or so flight. Oh that's good. So you
- 50:02Speaker 1: can escape when you want. Yeah, shout out Trajan langdon okay? Um. So,
- 50:09Speaker 1: but you're obviously a skilled beat maker because he made
- 50:12Speaker 1: a beat. Can you play the what you made for
- 50:14Speaker 1: everyone so they can hear it because some people might
- 50:16Speaker 1: not have heard it? Yeah, hey, but all you're out there,
- 50:19Speaker 1: drop it now, Dawn not now triple JOP triple jop.
- 50:24Speaker 1: Why ship comes out in the triple JOP, triple job,
- 50:28Speaker 1: triple job triple job. Why ship comes out in the
- 50:30Speaker 1: SLA triple Jop, triple JOP, triple JOP triple Jop. Why
- 50:34Speaker 1: ship comes out in the triple Jop triple JOP, triple
- 50:38Speaker 1: JOP triple triple triple job, tripple Jop, tipple JOP, triple
- 50:43Speaker 1: JOP triple jop. Why ship comes out in the triple
- 50:46Speaker 1: Jop tipple JOP, triple JOP triple Jop. Why ship comes
- 50:50Speaker 1: out in the slack tipple job, tripple JOP, triple JOP
- 50:53Speaker 1: triple Jop. Why ship comes out in the tipple Jop
- 50:56Speaker 1: triple JOP, triple JOP triple jiple drop, dripple drop, triple
- 51:03Speaker 1: dripple dripple drop. Especially in the morning when you wake up, Daniel,
- 51:09Speaker 1: why are you making that face? How did you come
- 51:11Speaker 1: up with the idea to a remix Donald I, A
- 51:13Speaker 1: and B? Will you please keep doing it? Because we
- 51:15Speaker 1: thoroughly enjoyed it. It's write something to it um the well.
- 51:19Speaker 1: It was just I listened like when I whenever I
- 51:22Speaker 1: listened to the podcast, it's usually during when I'm prep cooking,
- 51:25Speaker 1: like cutting veggies and everything, and usually I'm either listening
- 51:28Speaker 1: to music or listening to the podcast. So I was
- 51:31Speaker 1: listening to the podcast the other day and all of
- 51:34Speaker 1: a sudden, all I hear is and people drop dribble, dribble,
- 51:39Speaker 1: dripple drop, and I was like, hey, that's got like
- 51:41Speaker 1: a particular rhythm to it. So was Donald talking about
- 51:44Speaker 1: his urins dream? Yes, exactly, thats exactly. I forgot what
- 51:48Speaker 1: it was from. It was when you you were talking
- 51:49Speaker 1: about how as an older forty seven year old your
- 51:52Speaker 1: p's like dribbled drop, drippled driple drop. Yeah. Yeah. And
- 51:57Speaker 1: first I was like, oh, I could put this over
- 52:00Speaker 1: that Snoop dog beat that um do you know which
- 52:02Speaker 1: one I'm talking about? Yeah, And that's what That's what
- 52:06Speaker 1: I heard first. But then I was like, uh, let's
- 52:08Speaker 1: try to do something else. So like I I like,
- 52:11Speaker 1: I I sampled it out and put it on too,
- 52:14Speaker 1: like uh to my recording program, and then I was like, okay,
- 52:19Speaker 1: let's let's see what we can make out of it.
- 52:21Speaker 1: And all of a sudden, I was just like, okay,
- 52:23Speaker 1: let's just let's just create the beat. And then that's
- 52:25Speaker 1: kind of how it happened. Well, it's very funny. I'd
- 52:27Speaker 1: like you to make um some more beats first one
- 52:30Speaker 1: using this you honor me honor, and then I think
- 52:33Speaker 1: you could really build something off this what you're trying
- 52:36Speaker 1: to get into one day or what you're trying to do.
- 52:40Speaker 1: Oh man, Yes, um it's funny. Okay. And also and
- 52:45Speaker 1: also this one for fuck sake, to stop talking about
- 52:48Speaker 1: your willis okay? Okay, yes, okay, I can do that
- 52:53Speaker 1: for you. So wait, So I'm so he's beat making
- 52:56Speaker 1: music making your your hobby if you're a full time chef. Yeah,
- 52:59Speaker 1: it's it's pretty much a hobby. Like I do it
- 53:02Speaker 1: just because I love it. I went to school for
- 53:04Speaker 1: music and I graduated in music, but I didn't end
- 53:06Speaker 1: up doing anything with it, so the I just kind
- 53:10Speaker 1: of got burnt out. But then just making beats has
- 53:13Speaker 1: just been like a thing that just kind of keeps
- 53:15Speaker 1: me connected to doing it, um to to to just
- 53:20Speaker 1: being with with music. And you know, it's kind of
- 53:22Speaker 1: I still kind of aspire to to have a place
- 53:27Speaker 1: in like not necessarily the music industry, but just working
- 53:30Speaker 1: with with artists and stuff like that. Um, it's kind
- 53:33Speaker 1: of it's kind of hard because like that's actually kind
- 53:36Speaker 1: of getting into my fixed my life. Okay, but well,
- 53:40Speaker 1: um well yeah, go go into your fix your life.
- 53:42Speaker 1: We can do that. First, it's time for for Alaska's
- 53:45Speaker 1: favorite segment, Donald What what segment is that? That's what
- 53:49Speaker 1: I'm talking about. It's it's called fix your Life. Awesome,
- 53:58Speaker 1: all right? So you know, I love makings and I
- 54:00Speaker 1: aspire kind to get a placement with an artist or
- 54:03Speaker 1: even making background music for like commercials and shows. That's
- 54:07Speaker 1: kind of the dream. So like, for now, I just
- 54:09Speaker 1: gotta I gotta get the music out there. I know
- 54:10Speaker 1: it's possible, but the hardest thing for me is to
- 54:14Speaker 1: finish a project. I know, it's I don't know if
- 54:17Speaker 1: it's like anxiety or worry or just worrying about like
- 54:20Speaker 1: being good, but it kind of it kind of cripples me,
- 54:23Speaker 1: kind of keeps me from like actually getting a project
- 54:26Speaker 1: done and putting it out. So my question is just
- 54:30Speaker 1: generally like how do I get myself to finish a project?
- 54:35Speaker 1: This is something that every artist faces, and it's the
- 54:37Speaker 1: difference between people that complete things and get them made
- 54:41Speaker 1: and those who get stuck in purgatory. There's no difference
- 54:44Speaker 1: between you, if you've got talent, and someone who's living
- 54:50Speaker 1: their dream making beats is that they work their asses
- 54:52Speaker 1: off and they complete their projects and they hustle hard.
- 54:57Speaker 1: So you can't sit there and go, why is it
- 55:00Speaker 1: not happening for me? If you're not finishing your shit?
- 55:03Speaker 1: You know you got to You gotta be hard on
- 55:04Speaker 1: yourself and make time commitments to yourself. Say it's so
- 55:08Speaker 1: easy to get distracted now more than ever with everything
- 55:10Speaker 1: going on in our lives and TV screens and phones
- 55:12Speaker 1: and everything which you gotta lock the phone away. You
- 55:15Speaker 1: got to turn the phone off. You got to close
- 55:17Speaker 1: your door and say, I'm not leaving this room until
- 55:21Speaker 1: I complete that beat that I've been working on. You
- 55:23Speaker 1: have to push yourself. You have to give yourself restrictions.
- 55:26Speaker 1: It's committing to finish. It really is committing to finishing,
- 55:30Speaker 1: because you can get halfway there, or you could get
- 55:34Speaker 1: three quarters of the way there, and sometimes three quarters
- 55:37Speaker 1: of the way there feels like it's enough. Where it's
- 55:40Speaker 1: enough is when you finish the project. Now. The thing
- 55:43Speaker 1: that you're going through right now, everyone goes through. This
- 55:47Speaker 1: is something that all creatives go through. If you're a
- 55:49Speaker 1: creative person. You're most likely going through this right now.
- 55:53Speaker 1: You know what I mean. The commitment to finish, to
- 55:56Speaker 1: finishing should be all that is when you get to
- 55:59Speaker 1: this left to this point, that should be all that's
- 56:03Speaker 1: in your mind. I got to finish this project so
- 56:04Speaker 1: I can move on to the next. It's not finished
- 56:06Speaker 1: this projects so I could sit back and relax. It's
- 56:08Speaker 1: I got to finish this project so I could get
- 56:10Speaker 1: to the next project. Something that really helps me a
- 56:12Speaker 1: lot is being accountable to someone. So I will say,
- 56:17Speaker 1: you know, you could do it with a fellow creative.
- 56:19Speaker 1: You could say we're going to commit to each other.
- 56:22Speaker 1: You let's say I don't know she's a painter and
- 56:24Speaker 1: you're a music maker. We are going to buy Sunday
- 56:28Speaker 1: Night fin the Shark thing. Or for me, it's been
- 56:32Speaker 1: helpful a lot I've worked with I've worked with coaches,
- 56:36Speaker 1: like writing coaches who are sort of teachers and coaches,
- 56:40Speaker 1: but they'll also be like, should be like, okay, so
- 56:43Speaker 1: that scene you're gonna write sounds great. Why don't you
- 56:46Speaker 1: send it to me Monday morning? So now I can't
- 56:49Speaker 1: procrastinate because I my coach who I'm paying money to,
- 56:54Speaker 1: I got to turn on my homework if you will.
- 56:56Speaker 1: It's like back in the old days and you had
- 56:57Speaker 1: to do it because you had homework. That really that
- 57:00Speaker 1: discipline really helps me. And so you can say make it,
- 57:03Speaker 1: make it, make a deal for no money, Make a
- 57:05Speaker 1: deal with a fellow creative and be like, let's give
- 57:08Speaker 1: each other a deadline that we're both committed to. You're
- 57:12Speaker 1: gonna give me your thing, whatever it may be, piece
- 57:14Speaker 1: of writing a poem, painting another song, and I'm going
- 57:19Speaker 1: to give you my thing by this date. And you
- 57:22Speaker 1: have a commitment and you don't want to break your word.
- 57:24Speaker 1: I mean, I find that when I have deadlines, even
- 57:28Speaker 1: if they're manufactured, it really helps me. Deadlines work. Man.
- 57:34Speaker 1: I'm doing a I'm working on this project right now,
- 57:37Speaker 1: and my producer always gives me this deadline. It's always this,
- 57:42Speaker 1: It would be great if I could have it today,
- 57:44Speaker 1: but I need it by tomorrow. You know what I mean. Yeah,
- 57:48Speaker 1: so by the end of the all I hear is
- 57:51Speaker 1: it'd be great I could have it to me if
- 57:53Speaker 1: I could have it today. Because if I could have
- 57:55Speaker 1: it today, if she could have it today, then I
- 57:57Speaker 1: don't have to worry about it tomorrow. You know what
- 57:59Speaker 1: I mean. It's like you're trying to you know. Zach
- 58:02Speaker 1: said something that was really fucking awesome too to me
- 58:06Speaker 1: that really made me view how I was doing things.
- 58:12Speaker 1: If you want something done, give it to a busy person.
- 58:16Speaker 1: I had never heard that before. And you would imagine
- 58:19Speaker 1: that a busy person can't get things done for you
- 58:21Speaker 1: because there's no time in a day. But someone who's
- 58:24Speaker 1: busy has the ability to section their day out and
- 58:29Speaker 1: or I should say, arrange their day that they can
- 58:33Speaker 1: find space for anything. A busy person is in hustle mode,
- 58:38Speaker 1: so they will schedule it. They will schedule it, like
- 58:40Speaker 1: I have so much going on right now in between
- 58:42Speaker 1: prepping my movie and this podcast and a bunch of
- 58:45Speaker 1: other life stuff, and like my life is scheduled down
- 58:49Speaker 1: to the minute. I wouldn't bought it. I wouldn't bought
- 58:52Speaker 1: an event planner like a book, because he told me
- 58:57Speaker 1: about that shit. And when you write it down, it's
- 58:59Speaker 1: in your face, Stute, it's always in your face. And yeah,
- 59:02Speaker 1: that's another thing I like, is um. I don't only
- 59:03Speaker 1: like digital calendars. I mean they're good for day to day,
- 59:05Speaker 1: like what do I do? But I like a big
- 59:07Speaker 1: ass and they they'll sell look at your well, they'll
- 59:09Speaker 1: sell um uh, you can buy them on Amazon or
- 59:12Speaker 1: or like a paper source kind of staples kind of
- 59:15Speaker 1: they'll sell you a desk pad sized calendar that's the
- 59:18Speaker 1: size of like like the size of your whiteboard, or
- 59:22Speaker 1: you can use the whiteboard obviously too, but I like
- 59:24Speaker 1: a giant calendar and then write on there deadline days
- 59:27Speaker 1: and just you got to keep your word to yourself,
- 59:29Speaker 1: because if you're if you, if you don't keep your
- 59:30Speaker 1: word to yourself, then you're just you're you're you're done
- 59:32Speaker 1: for your bullshit anyway. If you're not keeping your word
- 59:35Speaker 1: to yourself, your bullshit. So set a date that's reasonable
- 59:37Speaker 1: for yourself, because you got your job and you've got
- 59:39Speaker 1: commitments I'm sure to to friends and family. Set a
- 59:42Speaker 1: date that is real, that is realistic and doable, and
- 59:45Speaker 1: then just make it and and and promise you and
- 59:48Speaker 1: don't break. Don't allow yourself to break your word to yourself. Also,
- 59:52Speaker 1: know that meeting a deadline doesn't mean you can't make
- 59:53Speaker 1: adjustments later. A lot of times I can't. When I
- 59:56Speaker 1: when I was having trouble not finishing things, it's because
- 59:58Speaker 1: I was like, well, it's not perfect yet, it's not
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: who can possibly look at this? It's awful. Screw that.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: I thought I was going to be done by this day.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: So it's done. It still needs work though, Okay, so
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: now I gotta go back and edit. Now I gotta
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: share it with somebody and get some more thoughts. You
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: can always keep project like pushing and growing and making
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: it better. But if you're not finishing, then you can
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: never get to the part where you make it better
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: because you're always sort of the hardest thing is getting
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: it done, Like a first draft done, So get your
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: first your version of whatever first draft is done. Then
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: I always find once I've got my screenwriting wise, once
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: I've got a first draft done, I look so much
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: more forward to going back and tweaking and fixing and changing.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: It's just the it's just the amassing. It's like the
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: clay analogy. Amassing all the clay first is so intimidating.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: But then once you have it, and you've got a
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: completed song and now you're like, Okay, now I'm done,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: but I'm not. I'm gonna go fuck with it. Then
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: then that's when screenwriting you're going like, take that scene, now, oh,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: what if he's like this and you're shaping. That's so
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: much more fun than the first Like, let me get
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: my first draft thing up to me, Dan, I'll go ahead.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: I also want to add, as someone who has been
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: in your position exactly as a beat maker and has
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: then gone on to actually release music and have it
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: do some stuff, I really recommend harnessing your creativity when
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: you have it. There's a lot of times when you're like, Okay,
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: I'm in a creative mode, I have to finish this thing.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: Instead of concentrating on finishing it, start a new project,
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: especially when it comes to beats like what you made
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: for Zack and Donald, which you made for the show
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: we're talking about like a four bar loop. You know
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: what I'm saying. You have the loop, you have the sample,
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: you put it together. That's something that in your head
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: and your first draft can come together pretty quickly. Make
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: hundreds of those. Make a lot of those. Don't focus
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: so much on like I have to quote unquote finish
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: this beat, because, like Joel said, maybe you're never going
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: to finish. But if you cut off the font of
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: creativity by focusing on one specific thing, you might never
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: get anything done. But maybe on the next project. On
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: the next project, you find oh, the creativity doesn't stop flowing,
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: and you make a beat for two hours and all
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: of a sudden, it's done because you just moved on
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: to the next thing. Especially with beat making, do not
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: cut off your font of creativity the second you feel
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: yourself being like, what do I do here? The idea
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: is done. Move on to the next thing. Open a
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: new project, make a new beat, change the BPM, get
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: some new drum sounds in there, just keep creating. Keep
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: that sound like this one one of the here's a
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: great example of what Daniel's saying. Uh so Poc. You
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: just know how Poc has all of his music that
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: he was able to release after he passed away and
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: everything like that, like that, there's just so much music.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: And the reason why was because he would go into
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: the studio, do the song, do a rap, and then
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: move on to the next one. And people were like, well,
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: what about the phils and what about the let's add
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: the let's let's let's complete the song and stuff. He
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: was like, we could do that some other time. The
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: song is fucking done. You could fucking you got my vocals,
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: Let's go to the next song. You know what I mean.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: It's to say it's it's contradictive of what I said earlier.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: But Daniel's absolutely right. Man. It doesn't mean the beats
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: if you're having to if you're saying, oh, I don't
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: feel like the beats finished, but I don't know what
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: to put in it. That'sh's done for now, dude. Let's
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: go to the next one. I want to give you
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: a specific example off of something that we talk about
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: we praise on the show. Think about all the transition
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: sounds for Scrubs Bow that was. That's a single guitar
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: strum and it's attached to being any barn barrow, like
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: making the four bar loop, making the making just the
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: beginning of a beat. That's enough for someone like a
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: Tupac or any other rapper or someone to then listen
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: to and be like, oh I got this. Yeah, And
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: then if you want to add to it, you can
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: make something more later. But the more that you commit
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: to and develop something like maybe you're overthinking it. Just
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: take the four bars that you're like, oh, this is
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: really hot, put that aside. Boom, you got it, Make
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: another four bar loop, make another four bar loop, Just
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: keep creating. I have a playlist of hundreds of just
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: four bar loops where I just listen to it over
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: and over because I got the basics down of what
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: I wanted. But it's not like finished. But that's okay
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: because you have the idea down. Make sure you get
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: your ideas down so that as you're like banging your
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: head against the wall trying to finish something, you don't
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: stop the font of creativity. And here's another sound you
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: could use, archie. I think I might have that. I
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: own this one lap and a wrap file, a little
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: home lamar that reminds me of actually uh at the beginning,
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: if you listen to the video that was of you
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: Zach laughing, there was like a little bit of a
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: sound and I was like, oh, that kind of sounds
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: like a clap too, if I can, if I can
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: use that too. By the way, the other way, the
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: other way to motivate you is um when they're a fire,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: will Well will play them on the podcast and give
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: you credit. I appreciate it, Thank you. I want to
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: wrap over one of them. That will never happen. That'll
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: never happen. It will if you, it will if you
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: freaking submit something send it to Daniel. We could get
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: it gone. We'll get it popping, sending whatever you would
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: like to write the wraps that much anymore, Archie, If
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: you ever want advice, when you gotta, I got a
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: couple of things like that. I got a couple of
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: things that are freaking Wait, Daniel's giving him some real
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: help what he told him to send him the beats? Dude,
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: I'm just saying. I'm just saying, you know, I don't
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: know if you are Aren't you heard me? Wasn't listening
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: to me sending the beats? Aren't you fucking around? I
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: was part of a group called Gladiator. If you want
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: to look us up on Spotify or SoundCloud and see
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: if the kind of music I made is something that
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: you're interested in, I'm happy to give you any advice
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: you need. So just that's if I go to soundtrack, No,
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: I can't. I can't. I can't rub one out. If
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: I don't want, I'll send a Gladiator. I can't bust
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: without Gladiator. Oh no, tell about talking about sampling. I'm
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: sampling that. I can't bust without Gladiator. Oh, Gladia, I
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: don't think we have time for one question? Okay, I
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: had these two, but I guess this one's for everybody,
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: just because, like I think it'll it'll hit everyone. Uh
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: pretty well. Um, so big fan of movies too. H
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: Garden State soundtrack is probably like one of my favorite
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: soundtracks of all time. Um, thank you that soundtracks all right?
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, if anything, it's a mixtape. Oh boy,
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: m hmm it is. I mean you can ask him
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: m sound it's a mixtape. But all of those songs
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: were released before. Yeah. He just it definitely got me
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: into like more indie like indie stuff too. Oh, thank
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: he so much. Here here's the thing that, here's the
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: thing that Zach has a very good knack for. He
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: has a feel for emotion when within scenes, and he
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: has a musical connection to it also. You know what
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: I mean. It comes from growing up um loving musicals.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: I mean since that when I if I point to
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: why I'm decent at it. It's the very first art
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: form I ever appreciated was musicals, right, and those are
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: about expressing emotion through song at the right time in
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: a story, right. Um. And so but it but it
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: transcends even into soundtrack you know what I mean? Because
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: but but because it's not like you found these new
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: artists or anything like that. All of these people were
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: around all of these songs. Well they weren't, no, but
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: of course some of them were. But some of the bands,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: like for example, Coldplay, was breaking. But but the boost
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: of the success, the synergy with Garden State, made it
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: happen exponentially more. I didn't help them break. They were
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: on fire, but it poured gasoline on the fire. The
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: shins were about to break, and I fucking drenched them
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: in gasoline. And that made that they were always going
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: to break. But it was just it was the right time.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: And and like Archie said, a lot of people this
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: was the music mean my friends were listening to in
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: la Um and my was surrounded by it. Some of
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: my friends were writing this music. We were going into
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: places like Largo and and and this was kind of
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: the scene that I was in in la and I
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: was surrounded by it. But people like Archie and zillions
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: of other people hadn't heard this kind of music before,
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: and it exposed It was so many people to this
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: sort of you know, singer songwriter acoustic sound. I'm gonna
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: tell you something right now, imagin he especially Donald Donald,
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: You said that like imagen and what was there was
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: the name of the band that she was in for
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: a beauty of a breakdown, Let Girls, Let go Dude.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: That song, that song I had never heard before, and
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: that's one of the I mean, if you ask me
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: on that soundtrack, that's that. It by far as my
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: favorite song on the soundtrack. It's like, that's I've never
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: heard at that point, I had never heard anything like that.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: That ship was fire, all right, awesome? What was Yeah?
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: That actually brings me to the question for everybody. Um, Like,
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: we all love films and TV, so it's like, what
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: is what would be your all time favorite like song
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: piece or background from film or TV? Why are you
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: asking me this? You know? Answer? Yeah, Now you're gonna
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: make him umb the fucking Vaders theme. It's not Vaders theme?
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: What is it? Do it? Do it? We're all waiting, no, no, no, Well,
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: the force is what gives a Jedi. It's power, dude,
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: do do classic, Do Do do Do Do Do do Classic.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: You can't beat that. Mine is um it's lamb, the lamb,
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: the lamb um. All right, we got to end our
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: show there, Archie, thank you so much for coming on.
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: We really appreciate you, everybody, thanks for listening. And six
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: seven oh we made about a bunch of docs and
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: nurses and the janitor who loved me him, I said,
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: he's the stories never all should know. So gather around
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: you here, ab gather around you here, abbs, but free
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: watch your winds and then mm hmmm
