- 0:45Welcome back to the boundary Corner podcast.
- 0:49My name is Curtis Wilson. I'm Brian siglo Curtis.
- 0:53It is a Thursday night. How you doing brother, brother?
- 0:58I'm doing pretty good. Just see your Lakers are
- 1:03wrapping up a win here tonight over the Bucks.
- 1:05Yes sir, yes, sir. If you laid your money and
- 1:08FanDuel, Gentlemen, it looks like all options are open seeing
- 1:19people post on Twitter tonight, some random.
- 1:22Oh, first person to score in this game.
- 1:25Oh, this person's going to score 10 points by the sixth minute of
- 1:28the game. Like, what was the, what was the
- 1:31promotion when LeBron James + 1 .4 wrong games, or The Greek
- 1:36Freak? Yeah. 4 plus 1 points, they were
- 1:38getting two to one odds, bet 50 to 150 bet, 50 to 100.
- 1:42Yeah so Clearly, that was the old.
- 1:49They're cooking it out there because everybody knew they were
- 1:52going to win that one started betting on everything.
- 1:55They're like, we're gonna get you guys, you sunk in, for at
- 1:58least some coin in this, this account and our hopes are that
- 2:02you're going to keep spending money and we'll get ours on the
- 2:05back end. Absolutely.
- 2:07And it's cool to have it. You know, it took long enough,
- 2:12it's one of those things like anything that gets passed as a
- 2:15law, it just takes forever versus just like just let them
- 2:18open it but obviously you know like the marijuana bill that's
- 2:23going to not go into place until 2023.
- 2:28I mean, I've got no problem if you don't like, you know, if we
- 2:31don't have like a shop on the corner and for months but you
- 2:35can at least legalized the carrying of small amounts of
- 2:39marijuana and And use of it in the short term, right?
- 2:43Yeah, let's be, let's be smart here.
- 2:46Let's not overthink this. Yeah.
- 2:47But they always are in place to manage it.
- 2:50Just Port. Everything you have for alcohol
- 2:53into the marijuana side of things and call it a damn day.
- 2:59But yeah, it's good to have. I have not signed up yet and I
- 3:04probably won't maybe. I know we'll have friends and
- 3:09you got a baby. Coming around man.
- 3:11You don't you don't need that that in your life right now.
- 3:14I don't need that in my life. You guys have coin that you're
- 3:16about to drop on stuff. You don't need to chance.
- 3:18Chance the exact the money running away on the, the sports
- 3:22book there. Yeah, exactly.
- 3:24Because it would be like, right now, as we're recording having a
- 3:27few drinks watching basketball, you know, I think Carly's gonna
- 3:30get hot tonight. Let me put a 30 dollar bet on
- 3:32this $30 own shit. So for me, I guess as covid
- 3:39slowly starts to to wind down with the vaccine going out and
- 3:43stuff like that. If you have it or friends have
- 3:46it, I just be like, hey, put 10 on that.
- 3:49Why are you doing it with cash? Because that's all.
- 3:52I've got always give you this and I Lose.
- 3:55I'm okay. I don't keep spending keep
- 3:58making ding students and my wife don't know.
- 4:05Oh yeah, definitely tell you if I was in Spain.
- 4:08Do for $150 wanting nothing happened.
- 4:12Well folks we've got a lot to get to tonight.
- 4:16What this episode primarily is on the back end, is going to be
- 4:19us going through some of the class of 2020.
- 4:23One obviously early signing period was in December and two
- 4:27weeks from now essentially signing period will be over
- 4:32that's when we come back and filling out the remaining of the
- 4:34class but we We've got a lot of news to get to since the last
- 4:38time we talked, which is back on National Championship.
- 4:41In the biggest just came down today, reports by just Cena
- 4:44Anderson, or coming out that Darryl Tapp is being pursued by
- 4:51the San Francisco 49ers for an assistant defensive line roll.
- 4:58Brian, I'm only get I have more coin in this.
- 5:01I'm going to let you get your feelings first.
- 5:04Then I'm going to come back, this sucks and it sucks for
- 5:07reasons that are mostly not on the field.
- 5:12I feel like on the field tap is a good asset but we don't know
- 5:17his ceiling yet and we feel like at this point to your link is
- 5:20the bigger player on that front. But in terms of everything,
- 5:26we're trying to get better at Off the field.
- 5:30He was, if not the guy one of the more important guys in that
- 5:35role, whether it's, you know, former player alumni relations
- 5:39with the team, whether it's recruiting in state of
- 5:42particular, the 757, I mean, this was the guy that was
- 5:46supposed to clean up some of the things that we have struggled
- 5:50with mightily the last decade, if not the last five years, and
- 5:56now it's potential that he's Going to be taking an NFL role
- 6:00probably not making much more than he's making with us, and
- 6:03having the same role on the team as he has with us.
- 6:07So, that's a little bit of a kick in the teeth.
- 6:10And I mean, I'm going to say it this is directly.
- 6:13A result of not getting rid of Fuente and having a more or less
- 6:19lame duck coach where a guy like tap that's up-and-coming.
- 6:23That's trying to keep a job. If someone comes calling that's
- 6:28that's he's going to take that call at this point because he
- 6:31doesn't know if next year is guaranteed.
- 6:34Absolutely, that is the biggest piece as you have a lame duck
- 6:38coach. That should have been fired, the
- 6:40Monday after UVA and he wasn't and for Darrell's.
- 6:44Safe does Darrell need money? No, Darrell May near me or 20
- 6:48million dollars in his NFL career and us meeting Darrell.
- 6:51You haven't caught a quick conversation with him.
- 6:54I have a feeling Darrell invested his money, really
- 6:55Wisely. He's probably doubled or
- 6:57tripled. What he made in the NFL, so he's
- 7:00not hurting for that, but clearly Darryl Tapp loves
- 7:03football and and he loves Virginia Tech, but it's that
- 7:07piece you just made if he feels Justin Fuente is a lame duck and
- 7:13if a mediocre to belong mediocre season gets him fired.
- 7:19He sitting without a job and having to scramble.
- 7:23Now if you asked me if I wanted Adam in the bay, or the bird,
- 7:27because I'm a 49ers fan. I want him in the burger, but if
- 7:29he goes to the Bay, why wouldn't he?
- 7:34Krista sarkar, defensive line coach was his defensive line
- 7:37coach in Detroit. Brian, you know, the name,
- 7:41Krista Circ crisp, your Circ is a Godfather, the wide 90 on
- 7:45that, dude. What he's doing, he's coached
- 7:47for 12 years, there's been regimes where everybody gets
- 7:50fired, but Chris concert because his unit performed D'Amico
- 7:55Ryan's? I new defensive coordinator.
- 7:58He played with Darryl in Philly for a season relationship.
- 8:04Kyle, Shanahan was the o.c. when Daryl was in the Redskins.
- 8:09It's one of those things. He has all these connections
- 8:11there and then they get to tell him.
- 8:13You get to coach Joey Bosa, get to coach Javon kinlaw.
- 8:18You get to coach Solomon. Thomas you get to coach this,
- 8:22really? I can tavius Street.
- 8:25I handled boy, you get this. This really good defensive line
- 8:29that was battered and bruised and still excelled you, come
- 8:33here, regardless. What happens, you've got a job
- 8:37next year. And you're probably going to
- 8:40build your resume good enough to where you can get your own
- 8:43defensive line job whether collegially or in the pros.
- 8:49It sucks to your point that the guy who is going to build, some
- 8:52inroads is in all likelihood gone.
- 8:56If something changes in the next, you know, 24 hours which I
- 9:01can't see it happening a we're down to coach, a huge
- 9:06personality. And you know what, I get this
- 9:10Eerie feeling that the powers that be are going to say, you
- 9:13don't get an extra coach this year.
- 9:14So we're going to be coaching short-handed, which is kind of
- 9:18bullshit. Because Jack's contract is not
- 9:21near what they were paying for Tracy.
- 9:25Claeys will get to in a minute well and that whole story but
- 9:30also, obviously we were paying Darrell some money here.
- 9:34So we're saying, you know, you're going to essentially get
- 9:38what couple hundred thousand back on 300 families deal and
- 9:42another almost 200 on tap steel and you're not going to bring
- 9:47anyone else into To shore some of that up.
- 9:51Yeah, I mean that's that's that's that's going to be
- 9:54interesting. So since we're there let's go
- 9:55ahead and talk about it, man. Tracy claeys retired.
- 10:00Jesus step down. He took.
- 10:02He took what we said personally and we he'd left the coaching.
- 10:06Business ran him off. He did not like his f+ and he
- 10:12just took his ball. And when you know what, For the
- 10:24first time in probably about 15 years, he was a positional
- 10:28coach. No, I do not think he was on an
- 10:30island. Some here, for those who are
- 10:32tweeting that out last week, But Casey had been coaching since
- 10:37about 1993 coach close to 20 over 25 years.
- 10:41He's got his money, especially, you told a defensive coordinator
- 10:45job for a decade. What they're paying, even what
- 10:48they were paying 10 to 15 years ago again, invest wisely.
- 10:52You're going to be fine. Yeah, but I think getting that
- 10:56that grand probably the covid you're probably didn't help him.
- 11:02It probably didn't even more down it hurt him because he
- 11:05didn't have a spring to really feel out the position.
- 11:09Yep. And get his feet back under him
- 11:12in terms of how how to coach the position and also have the time
- 11:18to put in with those guys and I feel like that hurt but I think
- 11:23also was just in turned like maybe a just a bad fit with
- 11:27what. Yeah and was trying to do.
- 11:29And what I think was envisioned for what his role would be
- 11:35coming into the defense and then what reality actually was, I
- 11:38feel like Clay's was kind of like a backstop.
- 11:42And a guy that J Hamm get through ideas off of and things
- 11:45like that. What?
- 11:47And I think some of the other guys on the staff ended up being
- 11:50that for J Hamm and not Tracy. And then, Tracy was number one
- 11:54coaching a Shin that was really kind of out of his comfort zone
- 11:57to begin with and his expertise was much less value than we
- 12:02anticipated. It was going to be absolutely,
- 12:05but saying that he goes now, some people feel like it was an
- 12:11apathetic move. I think it was the right move,
- 12:14Jack, Tyler's been coach. I think since the 2015
- 12:18essentially not long after he graduated, he started coaching
- 12:24Maybe if we had hired Jack, Tyler last year, we could have
- 12:27got Barry Odom or something in. I don't know.
- 12:29You know you know he coasted for a couple games anyway and was
- 12:35calling please one game. I mean so I mean, this isn't a
- 12:38guy that's coming in as green as people are making it out to be
- 12:42and you know I don't necessarily think it's nothing.
- 12:46Anyone say it's a bad move, I disagree with.
- 12:48But I mean, I'm not necessarily, you know, it's not Not a flashy
- 12:52move. It's not something that gets you
- 12:54super excited but it is a solid move.
- 12:56I think it's you know at worst neutral from my perspective, I
- 13:01like Jack. I think Jack does a good job
- 13:03with the guys. I think they he's young enough
- 13:06where he gets them energized and get them going.
- 13:08So I like that part of it and I'm hoping that, you know, with
- 13:13some of the experience he's had as kind of kind of being the
- 13:17number two guy in that role in getting you know brought along
- 13:20by Bud. Foster initially Nobody's
- 13:22talking about as much as they should, you know, I think that's
- 13:27going to be a good thing for us long-term.
- 13:30I think there's one other thing too.
- 13:31I you like jacking this role Jack when he can play Mike
- 13:35Jack's, not the most you know, athletic.
- 13:39He's not 64 230, he's not super fast.
- 13:44But the reason he was so good as he understood how to play the
- 13:47position now. I hope he can take that
- 13:49understanding and teach because as much as we not, that's
- 13:53hollifield That's a perfectly built like linebacker.
- 13:58He's six foot two, he's 230 pounds.
- 14:03Tisdale's needs to gain the weight, but athletically playing
- 14:07that plane that weak side linebacker of backer.
- 14:13He they both have skills. Jack, never had.
- 14:16If he can take what's in his mind, get it in their minds and
- 14:20get the mind in the feed, in the body, to work as one.
- 14:23Yep, that's what I have hope for with Jack Tyler because I think
- 14:27he can do that. Now, what I again, what I, what
- 14:31I worry with Jack is again, if this is a lame, duck coach
- 14:36situation, In a new, you know, we have a bad season and the
- 14:43winter gets fired Jack's. Polygon Jack's gonna have to
- 14:46spark back significantly lower and it sucks for him.
- 14:50If that happens, Braun, Rock returns, huh?
- 14:58Yes, I thought we already established that, but
- 15:03apparently, we need an announcement for it, which is
- 15:05fine. Fine.
- 15:12It's like one of those, okay. Well if you insist type
- 15:14situations, like, I get it's good for his brand and what his
- 15:20future is. But from a fan perspective, any
- 15:24time that we see, I'm making an announcement and you're a
- 15:28upperclassmen. You kind of, get a little Little
- 15:33antsy there whether it's transfer portal or whether it's
- 15:37I didn't think would be transfer portal regardless but you know,
- 15:40he has been at least putting feelers out there for shot at
- 15:45the NFL. So there was always that option.
- 15:47But pretty much everyone knew that Brock was coming back
- 15:50especially you know after the to what three-week Hiatus before
- 15:56this even got on everyone's radar.
- 16:00So yeah, that that was not shocking.
- 16:02The The piece that was, I wouldn't say shocking but I was
- 16:06definitely a little little disappointed to see you just
- 16:09because I like him and I wanted to see him come back.
- 16:11For one more year, Austin Cannon announced that he is, he's
- 16:14hanging up the cleats. Ladies and gentlemen.
- 16:16He is a, he's no longer a football player.
- 16:20Yeah. For Alston the stuff that he
- 16:23went through early on in his career?
- 16:26If you've never read about, you know, essentially you had
- 16:29Suicidal Tendencies and he fought through that and He
- 16:33busted his ass and earned a scholarship and then he busted
- 16:36his ass even more in cracked. The too deep and was essentially
- 16:39very important part of the offensive line for the last
- 16:42couple years. Yeah, heavy rotational guy both
- 16:45last year and this year and just again I was looking forward to
- 16:4952 coming back. If y'all know me 52 is my number
- 16:54so always had a headset. Some love for Austin Cannon
- 16:58there and you know good for him for making that decision.
- 17:03We're going forward and hopefully he'll what's that?
- 17:06Get to be on the lookout for him.
- 17:07He's from. Yeah, yeah yeah.
- 17:09So I'll I'll keep my eyes peeled for some Austin, Cannon
- 17:13sightings around the greater Mechanicsville area here but you
- 17:17know good for him and best of luck to him and his future but
- 17:21where it does suck with that is now yep.
- 17:26Do you no longer have a proven interior guy?
- 17:32To step in there a few weeks ago, we felt okay because we
- 17:36like braz going to be back if brought me to, he could play
- 17:39tackle, Austin, could slip in but now we've got five.
- 17:43We've got, we've got Silas, we got two new de we got Johnny, we
- 17:49got Brock, we got lettuce, Anybody goes down, your next man
- 17:54up is looking like Caden more on the inside and probably Hansen
- 18:00on the outside who have little to no experience.
- 18:04Yep. So he answers your swing guy
- 18:07that could probably a guard or tackle in a pinch so that'll be
- 18:12interesting to see he's going to be relied on heavily because
- 18:17pretty much any anybody that goes down, that's not a center
- 18:20he's coming in. I would, I would imagine unless
- 18:25some other guys are have come a long, a little bit more than we
- 18:29anticipated here between, you know, learning in this this past
- 18:33season on the scout team and things like that and whatever
- 18:37they pick up in the spring. Yeah.
- 18:40Alright the next thing I want to hit Ron is it's one that I have
- 18:43a love / hate. Okay.
- 18:48Texas A&M. Transfer.
- 18:49Connor. Bolingbroke.
- 18:54Tell me what you love, man. Looks like he was a pretty big
- 19:02part of their special teams, so they did a little bit of
- 19:03everything love that. Yeah, I hate to say this.
- 19:06It's almost like a taysom hill type thing.
- 19:08They're doing down in New Orleans taysom Hill.
- 19:11Yeah T1 Tannehill before him. I tell you what.
- 19:16I hate. Yep.
- 19:17He's a fucking backup quarterback.
- 19:23Like correct. I mean so much like the saints
- 19:27that decided not to play. Jameis Winston in the season
- 19:30instead roll taysom Hill out there in some sort of Quasi.
- 19:34Tim Tebow offense, that's what we're going to probably look
- 19:39like should the worst case scenario happened in our first
- 19:45string quarterback Braxton Burmeister get an injury, which
- 19:50happened a couple times this past Season.
- 19:52So it's not something that is outside the realm of
- 19:55possibility. Yep.
- 19:56So, unless not skating came in during the Clemson game and play
- 20:00probably the best he could play or less ties.
- 20:05Bullet comes in, you know, he's got the boiled, but may not
- 20:10know. They say this straight up.
- 20:12I don't want them to play college bullet because I know
- 20:14what corn would do to him. He's going to need seasoning,
- 20:17man. He's, I mean even under good
- 20:21scenario, So he would need a little bit of seasoning and
- 20:24that's no knock on Bullock. I think he has a very good arm
- 20:28but I think both in terms of reeds and in terms of kind of
- 20:33those intermediate routes and decision-making.
- 20:36I think he's still not quite there yet and we're going to
- 20:39need a little bit of seasoning before.
- 20:41We're ready to roll him out there against a CCD fences
- 20:44through. All right.
- 20:46Um one more that was in the portal that landed somewhere.
- 20:50Local guy here to us in the Year ta Jackson who's out of
- 20:53Cumberland County. So just to the West on the bus
- 20:57here, landed Ohio, I think it's a good spot for him.
- 21:02I think that's a chance for TJ's.
- 21:04Probably going to get a chance to compete for a starting spot.
- 21:07I think Frank solich is still out there in Ohio, really?
- 21:12I feel like since soldiers got there about 13, 14 years ago,
- 21:16they're always a good team. They want to make always solid
- 21:18never great. Always solid one, the Macintosh
- 21:21Apple pay Times. Had some good years best of luck
- 21:25to TJ? I think it gives him the best
- 21:28opportunity to play. Although now after everything
- 21:32that's happened here, TJ, please come back.
- 21:36Alright, Braun. Right time, here we go.
- 21:43Fumbling out of the end zone and the defense getting the ball is
- 21:48bullshit. Elaborate.
- 21:51All right, so they did not see someday.
- 21:56Cleveland driving getting ready? Scored?
- 21:59Touchdown. Higgins.
- 22:01Gets the ball. He's going for it.
- 22:04The linebacker from Kansas City lays.
- 22:07Essentially a illegal hit to him.
- 22:11He fumbles the ball in the end. And it takes a couple perfect
- 22:14bounces out. The defense got rewarded for an
- 22:19illegal hit and doing nothing that rule has got to fucking
- 22:23change. I Am with You 1000%.
- 22:29I'm going to go a step further. I threw it all the Twitter
- 22:34timeline earlier tonight. Do you know what?
- 22:39Is not even as bad of a punishment for an offense.
- 22:43As this rule, was that a fucking safety getting knocked into your
- 22:48own end zone is less. It gets punished less than this
- 22:55penalty because you get 2 points in to give the ball away, right?
- 23:00Yeah, you've up your in field goal range, in this case.
- 23:05So you're giving away three points at least And you're
- 23:10giving them the ball at the 20. So a safety is less punishment
- 23:19than fumbling the ball as you're going into score.
- 23:24I did it. Now we have our own variety here
- 23:29of what should happen? I'm going to go with mine first
- 23:32because mine's a little different than yours.
- 23:35Mine is if you were to Fumble the ball out of the end zone.
- 23:39No one recovers. I think you take it back to the
- 23:42line of scrimmage loss of down, go to the next town.
- 23:47Because in some way unless you just let it go, the defense did
- 23:51do something so if you were at the 40 they did something.
- 23:56I don't think he should be able to gain by making a mistake, but
- 23:59I don't think you should get the ultimate sacrifice of all the
- 24:01other team gets the ball even though they did little to
- 24:04nothing to, you know, get it yours is different though.
- 24:09Yes, I am going to essentially throw an olive branch to who
- 24:16Whoever the fuck out there actually likes this Rule now.
- 24:20Say okay. Well you say there's too many
- 24:24rules out there that favor the offense.
- 24:26We need something that actually hurts the offense here.
- 24:30Okay fine if you fumble the ball into the end zone and goes out
- 24:33of bounds you lose your down and you also have to spot the ball
- 24:40at let's say, let's say the 15 or the 20 yard line.
- 24:44Something that still makes the offense have to earn the next
- 24:48play that they're not set up for like you know, where they can
- 24:52run the ball up the gut for a touchdown or something like
- 24:55that, just to take advantage of the, the previous play.
- 25:00So I think that would give a little bit of equity there
- 25:02without being like, oh, well you fumbled, you got to give them
- 25:05the ball now. The fuck they did nothing.
- 25:10They didn't even recover it, it just went out of the endzone.
- 25:14So we hate that rule. Although, you know certain
- 25:20coaches, teach not to extend the ball.
- 25:23When you get down there, Belichick's the most noted,
- 25:27clearly, our coaching staff changes that as well see.
- 25:30Clemson. Yeah.
- 25:32Blackshear running shoulder first into the line.
- 25:36They're like, yeah, I guess two weeks earlier, they bitched a
- 25:41guy for extended the ball and losing it.
- 25:43Yeah. All right, let's move on to our
- 25:49primary topics of the day, folks.
- 25:51We're going to take a look at some of the 2021 recruiting
- 25:56class tonight. We're going to be looking at all
- 25:59of the early enrollees along with a few of the other selected
- 26:02guys a couple weeks from now. Just in case we add any
- 26:06additional players you know we're going to hit the rest of
- 26:12them now Top in. I want to just go ahead and hit
- 26:16this. Currently, we are the 43rd
- 26:19ranked class and the country it is up from last year, 10th in
- 26:24the ACC on it's not great. There are some players in here
- 26:28that I think, I think Brian, you've kind of felt this way the
- 26:33whole time. There's certain guys that we
- 26:35discussed the night, and a couple weeks that if they had
- 26:39played normal Seasons, they probably would have got
- 26:42significant bumps. And probably help where we're
- 26:45rated but it is what it is. Also if you were to put any of
- 26:49these guys in a class with maybe one or two four stars all weird
- 26:54and then you're talking about it, you're talking about a class
- 26:56that you can really kind of hang your hat on a little bit even if
- 27:00it's not where we want to be as at least where we have been
- 27:03consistently and historically so it's at least maintaining some
- 27:10of our better. Better region of recruiting even
- 27:13if Not necessarily exceeding and getting where we want to be but
- 27:17right now we're Treading Water. We're Treading Water, we're not,
- 27:25we're not, you know in the top five in the ACC like we're used
- 27:30to in terms of recruiting but we're also not in the very
- 27:34bottom or the bottom three or four like we were in 2020.
- 27:40I know some of that obviously was based on Size of the class,
- 27:47but they would that that's the rankings are the rankings, we
- 27:50can't change that. So that's what it was.
- 27:55But we had a we had 10 guys that enrolled early enrolled in
- 27:59January. So we're going to we're going to
- 28:01hit those guys today and kind of talk about them a little bit.
- 28:04And then we got five guys that I've kind of just I pulled out
- 28:07his kind of guys I think could be or probably the higher
- 28:11profile players in the class at Already on campus.
- 28:15Exactly. All right.
- 28:16So what we're going to do is I'm going to introduce the player
- 28:22rating, all that stuff and then I'm going to ask Brian three
- 28:24questions and he's going to answer them questions.
- 28:27You can be the same throughout. All right, so let's start Brian
- 28:29with the easiest and notes notable.
- 28:33Early enrollee is Jack. Hollifield Dax is a little
- 28:35brother. The 6 foot 3, 225 pounds Shelby
- 28:39High School. Shelby North Carolina listed
- 28:42tight end / it Inside linebacker apparently, we want him as a
- 28:47tight end but that's no guarantee three-star. 87, you
- 28:52know, top 35 is rated as an inside linebacker.
- 28:59You know, offers from as well as Tech, you know, he had some
- 29:03offers from Michigan appstate, Maryland.
- 29:07So Brian. My first question, I'll ask each
- 29:10time is what is going to be Jack?
- 29:12Holly feels 2020. One role on this team, I think
- 29:16he's going to be a really good scout team player.
- 29:21Wow, Mom even know special teams I think he could see some
- 29:25special teams I think just based on his athleticism he might
- 29:28crack some special teams but he I mean he's a he's a good
- 29:32player. I think he brings Versatility to
- 29:37the the Forefront which we have really highlighted in our more.
- 29:42Recent classes is trying to get players that excel at multiple
- 29:46positions and that we could potentially move around as
- 29:48needed to fill some of the roster holes, which is, you
- 29:52know, if you're not going to stack your roster properly, it's
- 29:57good to have versatile players where you can fill in holes as
- 29:59needed. I'd like to prefer us do a
- 30:03better job of roster management. Management and scouting and
- 30:08recruiting players to make sure that we don't have depth issues
- 30:12at certain positions. But you know sometimes injuries
- 30:16and sometimes departures create those but we've done a poor job
- 30:19of roster management in general so I feel like versatile guys
- 30:23especially like Jack are going to be helpful there and on the
- 30:27Special Teams so yeah probably a special teams role but I don't
- 30:30think you see him getting very much playing time.
- 30:35At a position whether it's inside linebacker or tight end
- 30:38in 2021. All right, I'm not looking at
- 30:412022. I want to look a couple years
- 30:43down the road for these guys because by that time that's when
- 30:45you expect them to be doing some big, what do you think his role
- 30:49is going to be in 2023? I think a lot of that is going
- 30:53to depend on what happens at linebacker this year next year,
- 30:58okay? So essentially you're saying, if
- 31:02we screw the pooch recruiting a If we screw the pooch recruiting
- 31:08a couple, good linebackers to go with someone.
- 31:11We're going to talk about here later, easy.
- 31:13They're gonna flip them. That's that's my feeling right
- 31:17now. I think more naturally, he would
- 31:20be would fit in it tight end and what we like to do.
- 31:23I think he very much could have a dog in Keene type role in the
- 31:27offense little more. I think in terms of the passing
- 31:33game could be a little more more use than Dalton was.
- 31:36But kind of a do-it-all type jack of all trades at the tight
- 31:39end position, if that comes to fruition.
- 31:43But I think if we don't do the right things at linebacker I can
- 31:47see him playing defense. Wow.
- 31:49All right what's his best attribute and you can do you can
- 31:53do it for Titan or linebacker yeah so best attribute is
- 31:57probably going to be as versatility but in terms of
- 31:59actual tool on the field, I feel like it's going to be his
- 32:04ability to move in space. Just watching his film.
- 32:07He seems very natural in terms of how he moves on the field.
- 32:12So I feel like that's going to do well for him, whether it ends
- 32:15up being inside linebacker force or whether it ends up being tied
- 32:19in. Got it.
- 32:21All right, we'll roll on another hokey.
- 32:25Brother combo will look at next Jalen Stroman.
- 32:28The six 190-pound defensive back out of Patriot High School and
- 32:32notes Ville Virginia three-star 88 a top 50 safety, a top 15
- 32:38players in the state of Virginia.
- 32:41Brian obviously we've been talking about safety depth for
- 32:43the last, you know, few weeks here.
- 32:45What do you see as Jones potential role on the 2021 team?
- 32:48Here's a guy out. The gate, I think he's Have a
- 32:51big impact on special teams. I think he's going to see some
- 32:55time probably only at least one special team grouping, if not a
- 33:00couple he's he does a really good job of tackling so I'm
- 33:06hoping that at least see him on, you know, some punt return may
- 33:10be some sort of Punt and maybe some some kick returns so will
- 33:18We'll hopefully see him out there on the field in that role.
- 33:21We could see him as a at the safety position, maybe it at
- 33:27Rover. Does he have a chance for too
- 33:31deep? If like, everything went perfect
- 33:35for him, he comes in, he gains perfect.
- 33:38May be too deep, but I could at least see him as being, maybe a
- 33:40late-game rotational player. Somebody that we're in year one
- 33:44just trying to get on the field and garbage time whether it's
- 33:47you know us winning or somebody else waiting, just getting him
- 33:51some snaps out there against live competition.
- 33:53I think that that's going to be what we see.
- 33:55So maybe not a You know, someone you would call a role player but
- 34:00definitely potential. Contributor out the gate.
- 34:03All right, 20:23 roll 2023 rule. I think he's definitely at least
- 34:10in the too deep, if not the starter at Rover.
- 34:13All right. Easy enough.
- 34:14There was genuine, the best attribute.
- 34:17When you look through this tape and look back at your notes on
- 34:20run fills. Oh God, this is your first time.
- 34:29We are debating next year. If Brian should do a weekly
- 34:32YouTube to segment about terrible.
- 34:35Safety run, feels it. Is something he has a good job
- 34:40of hanging and fitting where he needs to tackles pretty well.
- 34:44So they mean those are things right out the gate that are
- 34:47going to you know give Coach has a reason to try to get him on
- 34:50the field as much as they can. So but you know that's going to
- 34:54definitely be the attribute that that coaches are talking about
- 34:57the most all we're all We'll stay in the state of Virginia
- 35:01and go to Jalen Jones. The wide receiver, 61 185 out of
- 35:05Thomas. Jefferson down in the RV.
- 35:08A three-star. 88 top hundred receiver ranked 16th in the
- 35:13state of Virginia. Didn't get to play this year,
- 35:18which I hate for him, especially what they were doing down at
- 35:21t.j. or that guy was really building it and Jalen was just
- 35:25bawling. Yep.
- 35:27What can couldn't really see anything.
- 35:29You'll time for 2021. You know, lot of that's going to
- 35:33depend on what guys on our roster Step up Transformer out.
- 35:39Like Evan fairs did. Yeah.
- 35:41Yeah. I mean so we've got, you know, a
- 35:46bunch of got a couple guys that came in last class that you had
- 35:50their Redshirt year. I'm using air quotes here
- 35:53because it didn't really count. So, you know, guys like Tyree
- 35:58might end up taking some steps and make become a role player
- 36:01for us. 4:21, so if things like that happen pay you comes back
- 36:06and is healthy and playing. Well, we may not see a whole lot
- 36:09of Jalen, but if a couple of those guys either don't take
- 36:12steps or not, we're there need to be, or aren't healthy.
- 36:17You know, I could potentially see in Jalen getting probably,
- 36:20not any heavy snap count, but enough snap count to, you know,
- 36:24to talk about. But more than likely, he's going
- 36:27to be a special team, contributor in your one, I
- 36:32gotcha. You kind of going back to what
- 36:35we were discussing in this plumber, when he committed 2023
- 36:38role, is he going to be the why it is that going to be his kind
- 36:41of top in, I think so, you know, I think the way he runs routes
- 36:50is going to going to help him and I think that in some of the
- 36:54the other things he does well with his hands, that could be
- 36:59the role for him long term. But I think, definitely by 23.
- 37:04He's a guy that seeing a significant snap count and and
- 37:09doing some good things for us. All right, I'm going to just
- 37:13guess and you tell me if I'm wrong or right his best
- 37:15attribute is those hands or do you think something else I'd say
- 37:20probably is Route running? Yeah, I think he runs some
- 37:24pretty good routes. He needs to probably develop A
- 37:32little bit more in terms of the full tree, but the routes that
- 37:36he runs runs runs. Damn well, so when you say Ron's
- 37:41well he done round, he's crisp. He makes his Cuts where I think.
- 37:46I think this weekend, they more receivers, got land-based it for
- 37:49rounding their routes, then or her like rounding the route out.
- 37:54So he basically, if you ask him to go run a square end, he's not
- 37:58going to round it. He's going to get there.
- 37:59He's going to get to his spot. He's going to make that cut.
- 38:01Yeah, he's got good fundamentals.
- 38:03Within the the areas that he does, well, they haven't really
- 38:07flexed him a whole lot in terms of the route tree, but the
- 38:10routes they give him consistently, he runs very well.
- 38:13All right. Well let's go down to Texas to
- 38:17VT for our next guy. Dewayne Lofton wide receiver out
- 38:21of North Side, High School in Fort Worth Texas, 510 175 3-star
- 38:27considered an athlete a top 60 athlete.
- 38:30Eat held 23 total offers, including Colorado is one of his
- 38:37big ones along with Indiana. Louisville, Mississippi State,
- 38:43and obviously TCU who were fighting there, at the end for
- 38:46him, he was all State, Texas 5A and he was essentially his
- 38:51District Player of the Year. Where do you see the Wayne
- 38:55Lofton fitting into the 2021 Hokies?
- 38:59You know, that's the one that I've been struggling with a
- 39:01little bit because I feel like if we're going to see a receiver
- 39:06kind of pop and get a significant snap count in year
- 39:09one, this might be the guy, but it's going to be a lot of
- 39:13different factors that play in there.
- 39:14So in terms of comfort with that statement, I feel more
- 39:18comfortable saying much like Jalen Jones going to be a heavy
- 39:22special teams contributor. Before I would say he's going to
- 39:25necessarily crack the 3D but wide receiver.
- 39:29But with that all being said you know there's potential for him
- 39:34to like I said with Jalen if there's a couple areas where
- 39:38folks aren't quite there, he could think it's sneak in there.
- 39:42I mean he's another guy that's versatile.
- 39:43They mean they they did line him up in the backfield sometimes in
- 39:48that offense so he can do a little bit of everything.
- 39:54All right. Um so just the way you're
- 39:56talking about him. Your I'm guessing 2023 if he's
- 39:59not on the field every snap you're going to be shocked.
- 40:02Yeah, he's definitely a guy that's going to have to be one
- 40:05of those folks that take some big steps for us and gets on the
- 40:08field. I'm hoping at least playing in
- 40:10the slot if not outside for us by the time, 2023 rolls around
- 40:15because he's got a lot of talent.
- 40:19Good hands high point in the ball, you catching.
- 40:23The Run making big plays with the ball in his hands.
- 40:27So if he's not doing what similar to, what may be a table
- 40:32on Robinson is doing now in about 20 23 then then we
- 40:36probably dropped the ball there. Hmm.
- 40:39All right, you've mentioned a lot of his skill sets.
- 40:41What do you think is the best of those attributes other than his
- 40:45versatility and being able to line up really at any receiver
- 40:49position and in the backfield he's got good hands and hype.
- 40:53Points the ball. Well, when he's got tight
- 40:55coverage on him. So I think those attributes will
- 40:57play well, just because that means he can truly do a lot of
- 41:01different things. He's not taking out just because
- 41:05you've got a man, you know, running stride for stride with
- 41:08him. All right, all right, let's move
- 41:12back over. Who to the Mid-Atlantic?
- 41:14And let's take a look at Mike Johnson, the athlete out of West
- 41:17Florence and Florence South Carolina. 511, 180 pounds 3
- 41:21star. 86 by 24/7 held offers from Louisville.
- 41:28Mississippi State, NC State as well.
- 41:32I guess 20 21, where do you think she's considered an
- 41:36athlete? What are you seeing?
- 41:38Probably finding his footing at as much as getting on a chance
- 41:41to get on the field? You know, that's a really good
- 41:45question. I could see him.
- 41:49Maybe eventually slide again, as kind of a kind of a nickel core.
- 41:54Type role for us if not there, you know, potentially moving out
- 41:59to boundary safety Rover, but I think hopefully nickel corner is
- 42:04where he's going to find his footing 511. 180, probably still
- 42:09needs a little bit more size for that role, but I hopefully
- 42:12long-term he will be able to grow into that and become that
- 42:15Forest. But initially, I thought the
- 42:16gate probably scout team to special teams Tribute ER, for
- 42:24Nike and in 2021. All right, so you kind of laid
- 42:28it out there that you kind of seen as in between maybe a
- 42:31safety or nickel type position. I mean, is I mean do you see him
- 42:36being a starter in 2023 or Z is going to be more depth than
- 42:39anything? I think he's going to be death
- 42:41by then you know a lot of its going to depend on the
- 42:44development Factor there and if he's able to put, put the weight
- 42:47on, keep the speed and kind of learn the system and climb the
- 42:52ladder there. But I definitely see him as a
- 42:55potential contributor by 2023, but I don't think we're going to
- 42:58crack the starting lineup unless either he projects higher than
- 43:03we anticipate or something, goes horrendously wrong in terms of
- 43:07our handling of the roster, all the way things went lately.
- 43:11That could happen. I'm not gonna hold my breath on
- 43:15it. Oh yeah, we're not talking back
- 43:17here. That's not a rebellion.
- 43:19Your average recruit in a given class is going to have this.
- 43:23This type of greed. So no knock here at all after
- 43:28you form. There's not a ton of tape out
- 43:32there for him. So looking at some of the things
- 43:35I did find, I think he does a good job tackling which is the
- 43:40big thing that I saw from him that I think will translate
- 43:45well. I didn't give a whole lot of
- 43:46tape to see from him, mostly just like little Clips here and
- 43:49there that I was able to find. But what I found that seemed to
- 43:54be the thing that stood out for me.
- 43:55In terms of being able to tackle for a for a player, his size.
- 43:59All right, let's roll along. And let's go up to Jersey, take
- 44:03a look at Jalen Hoyle the three-star, a tab Dwight Morrow,
- 44:07High School in Englewood. New Jersey listed as a six foot
- 44:11180, safety guy who also held offers from West Virginia and
- 44:16Georgia Tech where do you see him Landing in 2021 run?
- 44:24I think much like some of the other guys we've talked about
- 44:26this is going to be scout team to a fringe special teams roll.
- 44:32I think the fact that he's playing safety and then
- 44:35projected to play safety, may end up maybe fast tracking him a
- 44:38little bit more and potentially that boundary safety position
- 44:42were or free safety depending on, you know, how the hell that
- 44:46matchup goes. But in terms of 20 21, I just
- 44:50think because of some of the other guys were bringing in, in
- 44:53the A portal and and where I think strowman is, in terms of a
- 44:58guy that's coming in, I think he's probably behind him at the
- 45:00safety position. So, probably not quite cracking
- 45:04that in any sort of role that would give him significant snaps
- 45:08in 2021. All right, so 2023 depth and I
- 45:14mean based off what you're seeing now and other people, I
- 45:19mean, is 24 over his best too deep.
- 45:24Yeah, cuz I think he has more potential to play the free
- 45:28safety role than Stroman. So I think he might end up
- 45:31sliding in there. He does a good job of tracking
- 45:36the ball when it's in the air and making some big hits at the
- 45:39point of the catch which kind of goes into your next question.
- 45:44What's his best attribute? That's what he does.
- 45:46The best apples are not trying to bury the lead here but
- 46:06Virginia Beach 63 205 inside linebacker three-star, 84
- 46:11rating. You know, is he a total of 12
- 46:16offers, you know, all around looked at NC State, Bandy UVA
- 46:21Wake Forest and West Virginia Also, had some interest piqued
- 46:25inventors from Wisconsin. I immediately see 63 205, I
- 46:33mean, unless he has gained a ton of weight since the last time he
- 46:37was weight, or he can gain a ton of weight, I mean I'm assuming
- 46:42not even cracking the too deep, right?
- 46:46Not year one. No, definitely not your one.
- 46:49I think he's got the potential to be a special teams.
- 46:52Contributor obviously heavy scout team role for him.
- 46:57I think are too deep is going to be pretty solid unless he comes
- 47:01in and just you know, completely knocks the socks off of folks
- 47:05and does some things that that we're not seeing out the gate or
- 47:09seeing based on his size there but, you know, who knows.
- 47:13But I think you know, more than likely It's going to be a
- 47:16special teams roll and a heavy Scout team rotation for 4ec.
- 47:21They're all right. I'm taking a look at this and
- 47:25kind of knowing the depth chart about linebacker because it's
- 47:27one of those having real acting all these guys, two years from
- 47:31now. He needs to be 2012.
- 47:35There he needs to be our backup might because Shawn right needs
- 47:39to be like if he doesn't we are in deep shit depth-wise at
- 47:43linebacker. Yeah, absolutely.
- 47:45Yeah. He needs.
- 47:46He needs to be the guy, at least in one of the linebacker roles,
- 47:50but preferably the inside linebacker role, he hopefully
- 47:54he's somewhere around 225 230, well, 63 frame rate frame
- 48:02anymore. As well.
- 48:04Sideline to sideline. So that's going to be the thing
- 48:07that is that I see out the gate that he's going to do well.
- 48:11So that's definitely his best attribute is the ability to kind
- 48:13of move sideline to sideline. So he runs pretty well, I'm
- 48:17hoping that he can get some more size on him.
- 48:19So he's able to take on those guards and Sinners and double
- 48:22teams that he's going to get at that inside position.
- 48:28All right Braun. You almost said it that feel
- 48:32like just the way he's built, you think that's his best
- 48:34attribute or is it something stuff you've seen on the field?
- 48:38Yeah definitely his ability to kind of run sideline to sideline
- 48:41which is going to be necessary I think in kind of what we're
- 48:44doing now in terms of the scheme that jam has.
- 48:50So hopefully that's going to translate and like I said,
- 48:52hopefully he gets enough size in there where he's not going to be
- 48:55neutralized at the point of attack.
- 48:59Obviously coming down from 75. You know, he's definitely played
- 49:02some good competition. But you know, as always, you
- 49:07know, it's going to be a step up as you get into the Collegiate
- 49:09level. All right, Brian.
- 49:12Next person I want to look at is sort of an under-the-radar guy
- 49:15only other offer he had was from Charlotte that we kind of know
- 49:19of generic table, 64 225 tied in at a Grove High School down in
- 49:26the 336. Winston Salem.
- 49:32We you know, low-rated but feels like a good bill does he have
- 49:36any chance to see the field? Any in 2021?
- 49:40I think you do stuff with special teams.
- 49:42He's got a decent amount of athleticism coming out the gate
- 49:45good size, so I think that alone is potentially going to give him
- 49:50maybe some chance to get on a single specialty and get some
- 49:53reps up there even if it's not the front line guys.
- 49:58But yeah in terms of 2021 outside of maybe Maybe some spot
- 50:02Duty on special teams. I don't see a whole lot of
- 50:04contribution at the gate. All right.
- 50:07I'm trying to think here. How are you know how our death
- 50:13looks right now? And tight in obviously Big Stone
- 50:16Gap, comes back, Big Stone. Gap comes in, has a good season,
- 50:21he's going to be going in the first 50 picks of the NFL draft
- 50:23next year. Your question about you've got
- 50:28Gallo, who has definitely his set role but I feel like, I
- 50:32think giveaway, I think Gallo, I feel like they're probably doing
- 50:36The similar type stuff. So I think Gallo has a couple
- 50:39more years of Eligibility is essentially.
- 50:41He was he waiting for Galilee by 2023.
- 50:46Yeah, that's probably, that's probably his chance of having a
- 50:48significant role in the team is having Gallo out by 2023.
- 50:52He'll probably cracked the too deep at that point.
- 50:55And I think that's going to be that's going to be good for him.
- 50:58He's not a guy that we recruited as to be a guy that's going to
- 51:02be Frontline Talent at the position.
- 51:04So, hopefully there's somebody else in the pipeline that we're
- 51:07bringing in to kind of backfill, as well on.
- 51:10We're hoping Jack gets to play tight end.
- 51:13Yes, That is the Hope but if not yet.
- 51:23So, this is kind of an insurance policy on that and hoping that,
- 51:29you know, we get some solid Talent from from some somewhere
- 51:32else that fill out the 3D rotation that we tend to go to
- 51:38for most of these guys. So I usually have three tight
- 51:41ends that are heavy contributors for us.
- 51:43Even if they are not necessarily getting Targets in the And game.
- 51:46Yep, Gallo is a redshirt sophomore that year.
- 51:49So he technically has three years.
- 51:51Should be a redshirt senior 2023.
- 51:56What does it again? What's the best attribute to
- 51:58get? Well, what's the one thing he
- 52:00did on tape? Or you just see from his body?
- 52:02That you say, that's like, if he can take that and put that to
- 52:07the 10th power. He's going to do great things.
- 52:10Kid can block like a tackle. Whoo.
- 52:13Yeah. So, I mean, you know, I don't
- 52:16know if we're talking about, like, you know, Dwayne Brown
- 52:18here. But Brian, are you just saying
- 52:22if he comes in at 240? It depends off, he blocks really
- 52:32well. That's one thing I see is a good
- 52:37good center of gravity with his dry blocks with his reach
- 52:39blocks. Puts guys to the turf.
- 52:43So I mean, that's what you like to see from a tight end so that
- 52:47might that might be the thing that gets him on the field in
- 52:502023. Even if he's not one of those
- 52:53first or second line guys, you know, there's going to be
- 52:55packages where we have multiple tight ends out there, and if
- 52:57we're running the ball, he might be one of those guys.
- 53:01All right, let's move on to the guy who came the farthest to be
- 53:06on campus and to me, it's amazing.
- 53:09He got early enrolled, it's amazing.
- 53:11He's on campus. Yeah, all things considered with
- 53:15covid. In fact, he's there.
- 53:17He's like, yo, military took the German be 63, 290-pound, 3 star
- 53:26guard out of, you know, out of Germany.
- 53:29The one thing Brian, you said immediately to me when you saw
- 53:34that pic online was His size like yeah, he really is 290.
- 53:43I mean I'm going to assume that 2021.
- 53:46He's not well shit, I don't know, it's bad.
- 53:49As we are guard death right now. I mean we're not I'd say we're
- 53:56heard more tackle than we are at guard just because I think
- 53:59Hansen probably is more Naturally Fit at guard even
- 54:05though he can play tackle. That's why I would have
- 54:09preferred of the two losses. I feel like the Nestor loss is,
- 54:15is worse, because Nestor could play both, but probably play
- 54:19could play tackle even better than he was playing it and
- 54:21guard, especially long-term with some of the areas we have need
- 54:26wise. But the thing I like, I don't
- 54:30necessarily know that there's a role for him on this team in
- 54:342021. So, he's again, I think at this
- 54:41point, he's just I'm happy that he's here and I'm happy that
- 54:44he's going to be Additional depth in a just in case
- 54:49scenario. But oh God, I'm hoping we don't
- 54:55get to that while man. Now, Brian, he know, obviously
- 55:00he was brought us by Paul Alexander longtime NFL line
- 55:05coach who essentially you feel like he's just getting paid by
- 55:10people to go overseas to countries and hate fine kids
- 55:15playing football. How could he crack too deep two
- 55:20years from now? There's potential.
- 55:24I mean, he's definitely a guard that there's no moving him to
- 55:27tackle. None of that.
- 55:30Just looking at the his footwork, his frame and the
- 55:35weight, some of the tape, he's definitely a guard.
- 55:38He plays like a guard, his past Pro in his step and is set are
- 55:44very guard. Like I don't think he has the
- 55:46set and speed to play a tackle at the power 5 level.
- 55:53But can be perfectly good as a guard at this level, because you
- 55:56can move laterally in a pool scenario, but just getting out
- 55:59of his stance and the kick that he would need in that set is
- 56:03just not quite there for a tackle, but I can see him being
- 56:08too deep in 2023, maybe 3D. I don't necessarily think he's a
- 56:15guy that's going to be a Frontline player for US, unless
- 56:18something changes, but good depth, good guy that you can
- 56:21maybe plug-in and I need Sarah scenario here you bastard you
- 56:28just having the body like already like yeah they not
- 56:32having to do a whole lot in terms of adding sighs.
- 56:37It's, we're talking about more refining.
- 56:39What's there than it is? Adding to it?
- 56:43So, I think that's the big thing for him is that, you know, you
- 56:46throw 10 pounds of muscle on there and, you know, Define
- 56:49things up a little bit and you're rolling.
- 56:52All right, all right. Let's take a look next at the
- 57:01Sean Elder. The safety safety.
- 57:06A union 61 200 pounds. No, real rating, but I see that
- 57:14build, and I'm automatically thinking with the year at Fork
- 57:17Union even though probably didn't get to play this year,
- 57:22just getting that development. Probably makes him a guy who
- 57:24could jump special teams day one.
- 57:28Yeah, you might see him special teams day one.
- 57:30I don't know if you're going to see him in a role where Where he
- 57:34would lose a red shirt over getting him on the field.
- 57:38Okay, but again, he's at a another position where we need
- 57:42some depth. So there's always a outside
- 57:45chance just like this year with, you know, Chianti Jenkins having
- 57:48to get in there on a significant amount of games and snaps for
- 57:52us, but when he was healthy. But I don't think that's going
- 57:58to be the situation for us this year.
- 57:59Even with some of the depth issues, I think he's going to
- 58:01definitely be kind of a redshirt type player potential, seeing
- 58:06some special teams role even if it's only you know, a set number
- 58:10of games so we can still keep that red shirt on him but long
- 58:14term, I think might look a little better.
- 58:17We'll see. All right, 20:23 obviously we
- 58:22mentioned quite a few safeties in this class.
- 58:25You know what do you feel mean? His best case scenario too deep,
- 58:30probably best case in the area to DP.
- 58:32I mean I think he could play the free maybe a little bit better
- 58:36than he would play The Boundary safety or the Rover but he's got
- 58:41good ball skills. Just looking at some of his tape
- 58:43he does a good job of getting to where the ball is and when he
- 58:49gets interceptions he does a good job of having some Vision
- 58:52to take those bags so he takes a good play and makes it a great
- 58:55place. So that's something that you
- 58:56know as pokefans we like to see because we love seeing those
- 59:00defensive touchdowns. Go ahead and write this down
- 59:03attribute when he makes the plays, he makes it big so we'll
- 59:11move on to our next guy. Now that is alternate the guys
- 59:15that have been rolled they are on campus.
- 59:17They are taking Glasses. They're doing the weight
- 59:19program. The next few guys are some of
- 59:22our higher-end guys that I think Brian probably one of the
- 59:25biggest reason you pulled them. Is they potentially have a
- 59:28chance to make more impact year one.
- 59:30Let's start highest-rated guy in the class DJ Harvey.
- 59:34The 511 165 lb Corner out of Sierra, Canyon in Chatsworth,
- 59:39California for Star, you know, 20-plus offers including
- 59:45Arizona, Arizona State Auburn. LSU Braska Notre Dame run for DJ
- 59:54Harvey. 2021. Can he see the field and
- 59:59significant a significant role? I think yes and there's several
- 1:00:05reasons. I'm going to say this, I'm going
- 1:00:08to start with the first one punt, returner, and kick
- 1:00:12returner sumbitch can do it. What do we struggle with a lot?
- 1:00:19This season, hot more than kick but more than kick and we had
- 1:00:23probably one of the better, but we lost one of those guys to to
- 1:00:28the draft now. But one of our better kick
- 1:00:31return years but now we don't have Herbert anymore.
- 1:00:35This guy returns punts returns kicks.
- 1:00:39Please wide receiver at a borderline.
- 1:00:43Power 5 level and is a definite power, 5 cornerback.
- 1:00:47So the versatility and the ability to play special teams
- 1:00:51out. The gate is going to mean, he's
- 1:00:53going to have a chance to get on the field.
- 1:00:56All right. I think he would probably have
- 1:00:58more of a chance in a special teams role or potentially even
- 1:01:06Cracking the the two or three deep at the the quarterback spot
- 1:01:11but potentially seeing some snaps on the offensive side,
- 1:01:13just to mix things up. He's definitely a cornerback
- 1:01:17meeting room guy, he's not a guy that's going to be, you know,
- 1:01:22sitting in on wide receiver, meetings or anything like that,
- 1:01:24but definitely the potential there.
- 1:01:26If you wanted to use him as a gadget, or a trick play every
- 1:01:30now and then right 20:23, should he be a starter?
- 1:01:35If he's not a starter then we probably got a bad evaluation on
- 1:01:40this guy but I don't think that's the case.
- 1:01:42I really like his tape. Like I said I like his
- 1:01:46versatility he is a athlete with the capital A and he's a
- 1:01:51playmaker with a capital P. Alright.
- 1:01:54Well the ACT will see attribute that you saw in those tapes that
- 1:01:57just jumped out that said this is why he can get on the field
- 1:02:01early. But by 2023 he can be playing
- 1:02:04potentially the boundary. Under type position.
- 1:02:07All hawk in the ability to recover when he gets a bad read,
- 1:02:12my love that, I love the second more than the first.
- 1:02:15Because when you hear ability to recover, it means, you don't
- 1:02:20have to be perfect. And, how many times have we seen
- 1:02:24fish last? Few years?
- 1:02:25Corners aren't perfect Gibby game over versus we go back to
- 1:02:31our younger days with guys like d, hauled flowers.
- 1:02:35Kendall, Fuller brand fly our brand of face on.
- 1:02:38They got beat, but when they recovered that hand got in there
- 1:02:42and they took it. Yeah, sure.
- 1:02:45For you. Brian coaching and seeing
- 1:02:47especially on offense. I do we meet the guy he
- 1:02:49recovered and he tipped, it's like deflating exactly man and
- 1:02:54that's what I like the most about him is that he's not a guy
- 1:02:59that just because he loses a step or he, you know, rotated
- 1:03:04his hips a little bit. It too late or too early, he's
- 1:03:07going to give up on the play. I mean, he still going to try to
- 1:03:10get their got the speed to recover.
- 1:03:13Got the ability to know. Well, okay, well, I missed here
- 1:03:18but I see what he's doing now. He gets to the spot.
- 1:03:20He needs to get to, and has those skills to really still
- 1:03:24make the play even when he's not in position.
- 1:03:28In the first five, ten yards of the route?
- 1:03:30Yeah, the only thing I wish, I wish you was on campus to go
- 1:03:34ahead and start. Art sighs.
- 1:03:37Sighs Harvey, If you listening you follow us on Twitter, let me
- 1:03:45by mistake protein protein protein, keep it lean, you keep
- 1:03:51him running but get them calories up.
- 1:03:56I say this because the way you described him if he was on
- 1:03:59campus and in between January and the end, Summer.
- 1:04:06He could gain 15 or 20 pounds and he was playing 180. 185 the
- 1:04:10way you talked about his skills. He would be one of those guys
- 1:04:14pushing for a 2d position quit. Now again maybe the thing is he
- 1:04:18shows up in June oh crap he weighed in at 180?
- 1:04:22Yeah. Oh shit, alright.
- 1:04:26Now the next guy essentially has no weight issues Kenji,
- 1:04:30Christian, the running back at a penson Valley Alabama. 62, 200
- 1:04:35pounds 3 star overall, I'm held authors also from Arkansas and
- 1:04:40Duke, He ain't got no size problems.
- 1:04:46Though he does. He does not have any size
- 1:04:48problems. And only thing potentially
- 1:04:51keeping him from having at least some role coming in this year.
- 1:04:56Is the fact that we have like 30 running backs on our roster and
- 1:05:00nobody's transferred out. Yeah, so I mean just as sighs I
- 1:05:08mean you could see him end up special teams role but just
- 1:05:11because of the sheer amount of running backs, we have a red
- 1:05:15shirt is probably the best thing for him.
- 1:05:19Only because we don't want to keep stacking guys with with
- 1:05:22limiting eligibility, as we're going forward, unless for
- 1:05:25whatever reason he's like 3D Talent out, the gate.
- 1:05:30Well, if he can stay until 2023 because again, we have 6,000
- 1:05:37running backs. I mean do you see him as sort of
- 1:05:42the big back of this offense? If this is the offense in two
- 1:05:45years, I think he's definitely a too deep guy.
- 1:05:49I mean he's got kind of like some Khalil Herbert like
- 1:05:54attributes okay the way he moves and the way he kind of gets to
- 1:06:01the second level and can turn a good play into a great place.
- 1:06:06So okay. I like those attributes and if
- 1:06:08he's able to Maintain his speed, keep his size where it is, that
- 1:06:14could be the type of role he has.
- 1:06:16I don't think necessarily the he's quite got that upside,
- 1:06:19although we didn't think that Herbert had that upside when he
- 1:06:22came in this year either. So who can sell, who can tell
- 1:06:27even the experts had didn't see that coming.
- 1:06:29I don't even know if the guys that brought him in from Kansas
- 1:06:32saw that as much. I mean, rumor is that they had
- 1:06:36to use somebody, put them on him like that was Scout that we did.
- 1:06:41Somebody said, hey, this guy's in the portal and he's even
- 1:06:43better than the guy that you know, who got the starting role
- 1:06:47their Kansas. So who's to say who's to say?
- 1:06:52But I think, I like him a lot. He's probably other than and
- 1:06:57Harvey. Probably the guy like the most
- 1:07:00in this class. Especially in terms of got.
- 1:07:05Probably the guy like the most on the offensive side.
- 1:07:08No doubt. All right.
- 1:07:10We're going to look at three more guys here before we close
- 1:07:13out shop all in the trenches. Let's start with matthäus.
- 1:07:16Stretch Carroll at a Gilman up in Baltimore.
- 1:07:19Maryland, 63 220 three-star. 86 rated overall wish he would have
- 1:07:27came down but you know, again it's a crazy year and you don't
- 1:07:32know how many guys they can take in, but after seeing Robert
- 1:07:37Wooten, get a lot of play. Does he have a chance to get
- 1:07:42rotational especially with the waybill Terrell?
- 1:07:44Nick likes to rotate. His guys, I don't think we
- 1:07:49necessarily see him get rotation out of the gate, he's going to
- 1:07:53be kind of Fringe there to me, like his athleticism and I like
- 1:07:58the way. The way he works on the field,
- 1:08:04we talked about it a lot, this guy's a wrestler as well and
- 1:08:09some of that shows up on the field, some of that that work
- 1:08:14ethic and the way he keeps going in the motor, but I could see
- 1:08:19him Definitely Maybe hitting some of the Special Teams
- 1:08:22potentially, but I don't quite like him kind of cracking the to
- 1:08:28deepen less he comes on. Campus and make some noise with
- 1:08:32just the fall Camp, not having the spring.
- 1:08:35All right, 20:23, I definitely think he's a 2d player by 2023.
- 1:08:44I'm hoping that he's probably a Frontline player by 2023.
- 1:08:48You one of those guys you see especially as I think he's got
- 1:08:52intangible. He's got the intangibles that I
- 1:08:54like to see play that position. He's also versatile where
- 1:08:58they'll stand him up outside and have him rush The Edge as well
- 1:09:03as having his hand in the dirt. So he's got that.
- 1:09:05Ability as well. So, I think guys like that.
- 1:09:08Find their way on the field, and just seeing how he acts on
- 1:09:13Twitter and things like that, his leadership, and those type
- 1:09:18of things are attributes that are already standing out to me
- 1:09:21now, because the attribute questions and today, the other
- 1:09:23thing I really liked about him was his wrestling background.
- 1:09:26And that usually a lot of times, you see, guys, you hear about
- 1:09:30guys, getting on the field quick because they have that sort of
- 1:09:32background because You know, what's the one thing you need?
- 1:09:37You think on special teams? You need a good tackler.
- 1:09:39Usually you bring a wrestling guy in there.
- 1:09:42Going to get guys down quick. We understand leverage, they
- 1:09:45understand fit. They understand all that shit.
- 1:09:48And they also have motor for days.
- 1:09:51Now, the one happy about him in the next guy we discuss is,
- 1:09:54they're already in the upper in the two 20s to 30s.
- 1:09:59So what the hope is, they get in to the weight program get into
- 1:10:04the nutrition program. Am is it's a lot easier for them
- 1:10:07to get to that 245, 250 where, you know, they can play every
- 1:10:12down. Yep.
- 1:10:13Speaking of the next guy, Cole Nelson.
- 1:10:15Defensive end out of Johns Creek, down in Alpharetta,
- 1:10:18Georgia. Three-star guy also held offers
- 1:10:23from Boston College and appstate.
- 1:10:29What were you thinking cold? What if I compared you to cold
- 1:10:32to stretch? Who do you thinks he's more game
- 1:10:37lock this year? I'd probably say stretch even
- 1:10:43though I think Cole's probably body-wise maybe a little bit
- 1:10:46more ready for prime time just because I think Cole has the
- 1:10:53potential to slide down into a three technique.
- 1:10:58Okay, in a pinch and a pinch played a lot of DN in a three.
- 1:11:06Three man front in high school. So, you know, he's got an
- 1:11:09ability to carry. Carry some double teams and
- 1:11:12things like that. Those are better more typical to
- 1:11:14some of the inside the Defenders there.
- 1:11:18I like him. I still think he's probably
- 1:11:22going to be red shirting in 21. I don't think he's quite going
- 1:11:27to be ready for prime time. Maybe get sins on some special
- 1:11:30teams, especially in the four-game stretch there that
- 1:11:35that they can get before the red shirt comes into play.
- 1:11:38But I like is I like his long-term prognosis better than
- 1:11:43his immediate return, their wealth and long term, but then
- 1:11:46mention a few other things you said I mean are you thinking
- 1:11:482023? He's fighting for the too deep
- 1:11:50or you solidly in it. I'd say probably fighting for 2D
- 1:11:56but I could see him easily being in there as well.
- 1:12:00He's got like you said he's got good size out of the gate.
- 1:12:03That's what we're looking for if tear link is still here in 2023.
- 1:12:09You know, that that's obviously the hope for for anybody here.
- 1:12:13But if cheer link is still here, you know, he likes to rotate,
- 1:12:16you know, he likes to get other lines in there.
- 1:12:19He likes to mix and match lines from time to time so I could
- 1:12:21definitely see him being a guy. That's a heavy rotational player
- 1:12:25by 2023. All right, last piece tonight
- 1:12:29Braun. Let's take a look at the
- 1:12:31offensive guard Bryce good and potentially Center.
- 1:12:35The three star out of McMinn High School in Athens.
- 1:12:38Tennessee. C-note guy that held a ton of
- 1:12:43offers 27, including to some of the ivy league.
- 1:12:46So obviously he's got a great, you know, academic head on his
- 1:12:50shoulders. 63 to 300 pounds. Already we should again with
- 1:12:57guard depth. I wish you was already here so
- 1:13:00we can start looking at him but unfortunately he's not I'm
- 1:13:05assuming you're thinking pure red shirt for him while he
- 1:13:07learned for Pure pure red shirt only because if he was coming in
- 1:13:13Spring I could say, you know, maybe he has an impact, maybe
- 1:13:17he's at least a guy that's kind of, you know, Fringe 3D that can
- 1:13:24potentially Sub in. If need be if we get thin it for
- 1:13:27whatever reason, but not having the spring, I think he's
- 1:13:31definitely going to have a full red shirt this year but If I'm
- 1:13:37thinking past 2021 up to 2023, I can see him at least being a 2d
- 1:13:42player. All right?
- 1:13:44He does a lot of things. Well, particularly in the Run
- 1:13:50game, he's nasty, he gets guys to the dirt, he pulls a lot in
- 1:13:56his high school system, and when he gets out there, he does a
- 1:13:58good job. So Brom, what about the
- 1:14:01attribute? I mean, is it just having the
- 1:14:03right size? I think it's the size but also
- 1:14:06think his ability to move as an offensive lineman is pretty good
- 1:14:10for that size. I think that's the biggest piece
- 1:14:13here is that it's not just he's a big guy but he's a big guy
- 1:14:17that can still still move around deliver a blow get guys to the
- 1:14:21ground. Like I said, I love watching
- 1:14:23this guy pull and deliver a blow.
- 1:14:26Having that size and the ability to do that, right out.
- 1:14:29The gate is going to be a big attribute for him.
- 1:14:32Awesome. All right.
- 1:14:34Well that is going to wrap up this section of our reviewing of
- 1:14:40the recruiting class again. Two weeks from now, we're going
- 1:14:43to come back with the remainder. If we add any additional players
- 1:14:45want to hit them up. Brian is anything broke over the
- 1:14:49last little while I haven't seen anything official about Good old
- 1:14:56Darryl, Tapp here. So, right now, it's still a
- 1:14:59pending to the 49ers. Hopefully, we'll see something
- 1:15:02turn in our favor, although it's not looking promising.
- 1:15:05No. Not looking promising at all.
- 1:15:06But the only thing that's looked promising.
- 1:15:09He hasn't touched Twitter and eight hours.
- 1:15:13He hasn't liked anything in eight hours and he hasn't
- 1:15:17tweeted or retweeting a couple days here.
- 1:15:20So we'll see. You know what?
- 1:15:25Happens, best of luck to Darryl, Darryl is an awesome human
- 1:15:28beings. We want nothing but the best for
- 1:15:31him. So yeah.
