- 0:02Speaker 1: You're listening to A Peak Inside Gator Football. This is
- 0:05Speaker 1: Allie Peak.
- 0:06Speaker 2: I'm on the drive home back to Tampa from Gainesville.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Just wanted to pop on to talk to you guys
- 0:13Speaker 2: a little bit about the game.
- 0:14Speaker 1: So exciting. Florida beat Ole Miss 52-28. Guys. Holy cow,
- 0:22Speaker 1: you know, Florida didn't just beat number four, Ole Miss.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Florida beat the hell out of them. This was not
- 0:29Speaker 2: some fluky upset. Florida led from start to finish. And
- 0:33Speaker 2: even though there were times where Ole Miss would, you know,
- 0:36Speaker 2: come back a little bit and the gap would close,
- 0:39Speaker 2: it never felt like Florida was out of the driver's seat.
- 0:42Speaker 2: 52 points, 302 rushing yards, no turnovers. Six rushing touchdowns.
- 0:49Speaker 2: This was against the number four team in America. And truly,
- 0:55Speaker 2: this felt like one of those afternoons where you could
- 0:57Speaker 2: physically feel the swamp. You know, listen, I know it
- 1:03Speaker 2: was a sellout. We've been talking about it being a
- 1:05Speaker 2: sellout all week. This is Florida's 21st sellout in a row.
- 1:08Speaker 2: But I'm telling you what, that crowd was fever-pitched from
- 1:13Speaker 2: kickoff all the way until probably 10 minutes after the
- 1:18Speaker 2: game finished. The crowd brought the juice, and there is
- 1:22Speaker 2: no doubt in my mind that that made it more
- 1:25Speaker 2: difficult for Ole Miss.
- 1:27Speaker 1: You know, I just... There were moments early in the
- 1:31Speaker 1: third quarter, I think, where you kind of thought, like, okay, well,
- 1:34Speaker 1: here comes Ole Miss.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Like, man, we left some points on the board in
- 1:36Speaker 2: the first half. Is that going to come back to
- 1:38Speaker 2: bite us? You know, they cut it to 17-14, then
- 1:42Speaker 2: later 24-21. But Florida just responded immediately both times. And
- 1:48Speaker 2: I think that's what impressed.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Me the most. They didn't panic. They didn't get tight.
- 1:54Speaker 1: They just punched back.
- 1:57Speaker 2: This is not a Florida victory where they survived a
- 2:00Speaker 2: top five team.
- 2:02Speaker 1: This was Florida imposing.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Its will on a top five team. I want to
- 2:07Speaker 2: go over the numbers with you a little bit. Florida,
- 2:10Speaker 2: 52 points, 498 total yards, 302 rushing yards, 53 rushing attempts,
- 2:13Speaker 2: six rushing touchdowns, 196 passing yards.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Best one? Zero turnovers.
- 2:23Speaker 2: And much like last week against Auburn, Florida dominated time
- 2:28Speaker 2: of possession. 36 minutes and 59 seconds. They got off
- 2:32Speaker 2: 76 offensive plays.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Listen, that's the story. For Ole Miss, 28 points, 426 yards,
- 2:38Speaker 1: 298 passing, 128 rushing. But two turnovers and just 23
- 2:40Speaker 1: minutes and one second time of possession.
- 2:48Speaker 2: We talked all week, guys, about how time of possession
- 2:52Speaker 2: was going to matter. Basically, Florida made Ole Miss spend
- 2:57Speaker 2: the afternoon watching Florida's running backs run through them. We
- 3:02Speaker 2: talked a lot about how keeping Trinidad Chambliss on the
- 3:05Speaker 2: sidelines was absolutely the best strategy for beating him, and
- 3:09Speaker 2: it worked.
- 3:10Speaker 1: And now UF has.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Scored 48 points through their first two SEC games this
- 3:16Speaker 2: while averaging 466.5 yards rushing and 272.5 rushing yards as well.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I said that wrong.
- 3:19Speaker 2: 466.5 total yards and 272.5 of those are rushing yards
- 3:21Speaker 2: through those two conference games, averaging those 48 points.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Just crazy. Can we talk about Jaden Vaughn?
- 3:26Speaker 2: 29 carries, 142 yards, three touchdowns. He just kept coming.
- 3:45Speaker 2: And this game wasn't a bunch of 60-yard highlight runs.
- 3:51Speaker 2: This was physical, relentless football. All I kept thinking about was.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Some are all talking about, you know, hitting.
- 3:59Speaker 2: The cut, hit the cut, hit the cut, and why
- 4:03Speaker 2: that eventually wears the team down. And that's what we
- 4:05Speaker 2: did with Jaden Baugh today. Ole Miss knew he was
- 4:08Speaker 2: getting it. Florida kept giving it to him anyway.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Didn't matter. Now, this is an incredible historical note.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Vaughn has not rushed for 100 plus yards in five
- 4:18Speaker 2: consecutive games.
- 4:19Speaker 1: There are only two other players that have.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Done that in Florida history, Emmitt Smith and Fred Taylor.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Now you add Jaden Vaughn to that, that's the list.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Those three. Over five games, Jaden Vaughn is averaging 173.2
- 4:31Speaker 1: rushing yards. He scored 13 touchdowns.
- 4:37Speaker 2: He is the face of this football team. But how
- 4:40Speaker 2: about Duke Clark? 12 carries, 126 yards, one touchdown. Guys,
- 4:45Speaker 2: he averaged 10.5 yards per carry today. And the 45-yard
- 4:51Speaker 2: touchdown after Ole Miss closed the gap and made it 17-14,
- 4:55Speaker 2: absolutely massive. That might be the play of the game
- 5:00Speaker 2: from an emotional standpoint. Ole Miss comes out of halftime,
- 5:04Speaker 2: they score a touchdown, they get that two-point conversion to
- 5:07Speaker 2: make it 17-14. I'm getting nervous. I don't know about
- 5:11Speaker 2: you guys. You were getting a little nervous, but Florida says, nah,
- 5:14Speaker 2: we got that. London Montgomery gives them excellent field position.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Ball runs twice and then Duke Clark goes 45 yards
- 5:21Speaker 2: to the house. And we got the track meet that
- 5:25Speaker 2: we talked about that we were going to potentially get.
- 5:28Speaker 2: And listen, Florida, I was concerned about Florida getting into
- 5:32Speaker 2: a track meet with Ole Miss simply because I think
- 5:35Speaker 2: Trinidad Chambliss is the best player in the country. And
- 5:38Speaker 2: I don't have a ton of interest in getting into
- 5:40Speaker 2: a track meet with the best player in the country.
- 5:43Speaker 1: But Florida was like, ah, we got it. We'll play
- 5:45Speaker 1: that game too.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Fah and Clark became Florida's first pair of 100-yard rushers
- 5:50Speaker 2: in the same game since Trevor Etienne and Montrell Johnson
- 5:55Speaker 2: did it against South Carolina in 2022.
- 5:59Speaker 1: How about some love for Phil Troutwine and our offensive line?
- 6:02Speaker 1: 302 rushing yards against the number 14 in the country.
- 6:05Speaker 2: You don't do that if you're not whipping people up front.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Florida wasn't hiding what it wanted to do. 53 carries.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Ole Miss knew the run was coming. And they still
- 6:15Speaker 2: couldn't stop it. Florida averaged 5.7 yards per rush. That
- 6:18Speaker 2: is grown man SEC football. And Pete Golding basically said
- 6:23Speaker 2: that in his postgame. He called it, I think, an
- 6:26Speaker 2: old-fashioned ass-kicking or butt-whooping, something like that. Hard to summarize
- 6:30Speaker 2: it better than that, I think. And tip of the
- 6:33Speaker 2: hat to Aaron Filo. He keeps doing great. what Florida
- 6:37Speaker 2: needs him to do and doesn't try and do more,
- 6:40Speaker 2: doesn't try to create things that aren't there. He doesn't
- 6:43Speaker 2: have to be Superman. 16 of 23, 196 yards, one touchdown.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Plus he had that rushing TD as well, no interceptions.
- 6:52Speaker 2: He made the throws when they needed him to. He
- 6:54Speaker 2: protected the football. He managed the game. And then when
- 6:57Speaker 2: Florida got into scoring territory, he contributed not just with
- 7:01Speaker 2: his arms, but this game with his legs as well.
- 7:04Speaker 2: And that Amir Jackson touchdown to make it 45-28, that
- 7:08Speaker 2: basically felt like.
- 7:09Speaker 1: The dagger there.
- 7:10Speaker 2: And we need to give a little bit of love
- 7:13Speaker 2: to London Montgomery. I've talked about him in the beginning
- 7:16Speaker 2: of this. You know, BB3 went down. Montgomery stepped into
- 7:20Speaker 2: that kick return role. And twice when Ole Miss had momentum,
- 7:24Speaker 2: Montgomery helped Florida immediately take that momentum right back. 74-yard
- 7:30Speaker 2: kickoff return after Ole Miss had made it 24-21. Two
- 7:33Speaker 2: plays later, Filo scores a touchdown, makes it 31-21. That
- 7:37Speaker 2: is a gigantic sequence. Ole Miss spent 14 plays driving
- 7:42Speaker 2: the field, gets within three, and then 30 seconds later,
- 7:45Speaker 2: they are back down to 10 points again.
- 7:47Speaker 1: That is demoralizing. Defense got better, too.
- 7:52Speaker 2: I think we're seeing, you know, we know this offense
- 7:54Speaker 2: is electric. This offense is so fun to watch. But
- 7:57Speaker 2: this defense is getting better every week. Jaden Woods, I
- 8:01Speaker 2: think he had the defensive play of the game, changed everything.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Florida's up 31-21. Ole Miss has already shown that it
- 8:08Speaker 2: can score quickly. Chambliss is incredibly dangerous. Then Jaden Woods, sack,
- 8:15Speaker 2: and then he strips the ball. Miles Graham recovers. Florida
- 8:18Speaker 2: goes down and scores, makes it 38-21. And I honestly
- 8:22Speaker 2: think that's when it went from, man, Florida might hang
- 8:25Speaker 2: on to this thing, to, whoo, Florida is going to
- 8:28Speaker 2: blow out the number four team in the country. And,
- 8:32Speaker 2: you know, the defense wasn't perfect, but they made big
- 8:36Speaker 2: plays when Florida needed them to.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Now, Ole Miss still had 426 total yards, 298 of
- 8:40Speaker 1: those passing. But....
- 8:46Speaker 2: They were able to get stops when they needed to.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Ole Miss moved the ball. There's things to clean up.
- 8:51Speaker 2: There were stretches where Chambliss looked like, you know, he
- 8:55Speaker 2: wasn't the guy that's been getting all of this Heisman attention.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Florida created turnovers. That's the difference.
- 9:01Speaker 2: That strip sack, that Miles Graham recovery. DJ Coleman got
- 9:04Speaker 2: that late interception. And, you know, listen. Zero turnovers for Florida,
- 9:10Speaker 2: two for Ole Miss.
- 9:12Speaker 1: That is how you win a football game.
- 9:15Speaker 2: I cannot say enough about the fight in this team.
- 9:20Speaker 2: They resemble the personality of their head coach. You can
- 9:24Speaker 2: tell that they love playing for him. And they just,
- 9:28Speaker 2: come on. When Dallas Wilson has to stretch that ball
- 9:32Speaker 2: across the end zone. Now, listen, I about had a
- 9:34Speaker 2: heart attack in the stands while it was happening. But, like,
- 9:37Speaker 2: just the extra effort, the extra strain.
- 9:40Speaker 1: I just.
- 9:42Speaker 2: I am so impressed with this team, and I honestly
- 9:44Speaker 2: think the craziest part is that Florida left points out there.
- 9:47Speaker 1: This could have been so much worse.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Florida had a 67-yard BB-3 touchdown wiped out. There was
- 9:53Speaker 2: an overthrow to BB-3 later on another potentially explosive play.
- 9:58Speaker 2: There was a failed fourth down attack. in Ole Miss territory.
- 10:01Speaker 2: You know, Florida was up 17-6 at halftime, but that
- 10:04Speaker 2: very easily could have been 28-6. That is, you know,
- 10:09Speaker 2: Florida actually scored 52 points, and you can legitimately say
- 10:13Speaker 2: they left points on the field. BB3 didn't play the
- 10:18Speaker 2: second half. He left with a knee injury. Obviously, that's
- 10:22Speaker 2: something that we will monitor because he is just absolutely electric.
- 10:25Speaker 1: We want him on the field as much as he
- 10:26Speaker 1: possibly could.
- 10:27Speaker 2: But I think it's encouraging that Florida didn't fall apart
- 10:30Speaker 2: without him. Montgomery stepped up on returns. Other receivers contributed.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Florida leaned harder into the running game. And that is
- 10:37Speaker 2: what you can do when you have the depth that
- 10:39Speaker 2: Florida does.
- 10:40Speaker 1: So here we are, 4-0 for.
- 10:42Speaker 2: The first time since 2019, 2-0 in the SEC for
- 10:46Speaker 2: the first time since 2019, 52 points, this Florida's first
- 10:51Speaker 2: 50-point SEC performance since 2021.
- 10:55Speaker 1: This was Florida's highest-ranked win since the Gators beat Ole Miss.
- 10:59Speaker 1: They were number three in the country at the time.
- 11:00Speaker 1: 38-10 in the swamp in 2015.
- 11:03Speaker 2: And that 52 points tied for Florida's most ever against
- 11:08Speaker 2: a top-five opponent, matching the 52-20 national championship win over
- 11:13Speaker 2: Florida State following the 1996 season. So, listen, four games, 66-21, 52-3.
- 11:23Speaker 2: 44-39 on the road at Auburn. And then today, 52-28
- 11:27Speaker 2: against Ole Miss. Florida has scored 214 points in four games.
- 11:32Speaker 2: This is, it's not even about the points, though. It's
- 11:35Speaker 2: the personality of this team.
- 11:37Speaker 1: They are physical.
- 11:38Speaker 2: They are aggressive. They don't panic. When they are challenged,
- 11:42Speaker 2: they answer. The swap feels dangerous again. And Summerall's postgame
- 11:47Speaker 2: comment was perfect. He was asked about, you know, the
- 11:50Speaker 2: waking of the sleeping giant. He said, well, it's not asleep.
- 11:53Speaker 2: But it ain't fully awake yet either. That is crazy.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Is the beast starting to wake up? And if this
- 12:00Speaker 2: isn't fully awake, what in the world does fully awake
- 12:05Speaker 2: even look like? I think that's the most exciting part
- 12:07Speaker 2: for Florida fans and probably the scariest.
- 12:10Speaker 1: For our opponents.
- 12:11Speaker 2: For years, we have talked about what Florida should be,
- 12:14Speaker 2: what Florida used to be, what Florida needs to get
- 12:17Speaker 2: back to.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Today, four quarters in the swamp. We didn't have to
- 12:21Speaker 1: talk about any of that.
- 12:22Speaker 2: We just got to watch Florida look like Florida again.
- 12:28Speaker 2: And that was so much fun. I appreciate you guys
- 12:33Speaker 2: for listening. Make sure you check out my full recap tomorrow.
- 12:36Speaker 2: We're going to get into the good, the bad, the ugly,
- 12:38Speaker 2: but I wanted to make sure I got this off
- 12:40Speaker 2: for you guys tonight because I know you are just
- 12:43Speaker 2: as hyped as I am.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Go Gators!
