[upbeat music] It's gonna be the whole show.
• 0:16
[upbeat music] [laughs] [singing] Hey, everybody. Chewy. Hot wheels. Sometimes you gotta meow. [laughs] Welcome to the Alleged Radio Program. This is Full Spectrum Cycling, and we are currently doing show number 158.
• 0:31
Yes, like the Alfa Romeo 158 Alfetta. Gu- Gulia, Galatta, Galatta, Falatta. Little Alfa. A- Alfa. It's Little Alfa. It is Italian. It is a tiny, was a tiny car. In Italian, it's Little Alfa. Italian.
• 0:43
Does that go for 159 as well? Yes, it does, so I'll say the same thing next week. [laughs] If you buy one. Hey, we're... That, that means we're closing in on show 160. That's good, isn't it?
• 0:53
That's a fun little- Cracking cigar... little man. I'd, I'd, I'd drive that car. Isn't that a little cigar there? Boop. Yeah, those are fun. That's a little, little race car.
• 0:59
I don't know if it was an F1 car or something probably. Mm-hmm. Formula One. Formula One there. 46. Formula One. I don't know who drove that thing. 46, 51. I don't know if it was, uh, Dino or, or Claudio or somebody.
• 1:08
Someone must have. Giuseppe Farina? Maybe Giuseppe. Luigi Fagioli? Luigi? Luigi? Mm-hmm. Lu- Lu... Well, hey, anyway. [laughs] In the studio today, JK. Hello. Yeah, I have all the information. And Mr. Tony Burger.
• 1:24
Hey, look. I don't, I don't... There's nobody else in the studio today. Yeah. It's quiet. Kir- Kirk was in the studio. That's right. And he left.
• 1:31
Kirk is doing some, uh, what do you call it, theater type stuff here right next door almost to us right now. Also looking at maybe putting in a disc golf, you know, chain thing. Mm-hmm. You know? A little putt practice.
• 1:44
Yeah. And then there's some, some plan to do like a, a miniature golf course in there, too. Fantastic. Yeah. So- How mini, how mini golf the hill are they putting?
• 1:53
As long as we can squat in this place until they kick us out. [laughs] Right. With mini golf. Which might be how it goes. We'll see. All sorts of new movements afoot again. The saga.
• 2:06
We should just do a building saga show. Right, right. But we don't have to- We might be able to make it a, you know, reality TV show... we don't have to put it on Full Spectrum Cycling.
• 2:13
You mean the bike shop might move again? Is that what you're trying to say here? Well, the bike shop has to move again. Well, we know, I mean, I mean, is it- Where is it going to move? Yeah, that's the question.
• 2:19
Don't know. Move again, again? I'm looking at a place, uh, yesterday. Uh-huh. Are you, now? Was that place yesterday, uh, Granite Place? Yep, right on Pearson. Yeah, might know that place. Whatever that is, hour.
• 2:30
Yep, might know that place. Bought my granite there [laughs] for my kitchen. Did you? Did you go in the showroom? Yeah. Was the showroom nice? Uh, yeah. That's the place that's for rent, 4,000 square feet.
• 2:39
Uh, it was very interesting because I had to... So it, you know, it's in River West. It has no windows. It's on the Beerline Trail. It is on the Beerline Trail. And I literally didn't even know if they were open.
• 2:51
I walked up to a dark door and pressed a doorbell. Yeah, I think that's how they want it. And, yeah. They didn't want people to kinda know they're there.
• 3:00
And a young, a young lady opened the door and said, "Can I help you?" I'm like, "I, I would-" May I help you. May I? Yes. [laughs] Sorry, I'm wearing my Can I Pet Your... Anyway.
• 3:09
Um, and she, I said, "You know, may I look at some granite?" And she's like, "Absolutely, let me turn the lights in the showroom." And I was, I had Cleone, she was a little girl,
• 3:23
and this big room lights up very tall and it's just, like, full of different kinds of granite. True that.
• 3:32
It was absolutely fantas- It was j- it blew me away and, and let me take little samples of each piece and I went home. It was the hardest wagon I ever pulled home- [laughs]...
• 3:41
because it had, like, 36 pounds of granite in it and a small child. Yep. But it was cool. Yeah. I, I predict they moved out west somewhere where the facilities are bigger and nicer, but.
• 3:51
It's, the story, if you, if you look up, actually remind me before we post this podcast- Uh-oh... and I'll look up the stories to why they closed. I get it. Oh, okay.
• 3:59
Um, it, it was a, it's a, it's a very interesting family story. Yeah, it's right on the Beerline. 30- Yeah... 3225. Mm-hmm. Okay, so the- No, I, no, I was just trying to get-... the, the rent seems very reasonable.
• 4:09
The one thing I didn't really look at was the, uh, additional monthly costs to heat and electrify the joint, which may be somewhat prohibitive at this point. Especially heat.
• 4:20
I think you have to look at that very carefully. Well, I think there's a general fund for it that- Okay... all the renter, leasers pay. When are you looking at this? That would be yesterday afternoon at, uh, 2:00 PM. Oh.
• 4:32
[gasps] Meaning tomorrow at 2:00. I'm, no, I'm probably not gonna be back from Plymouth. Plus, we also went to Hooligans for lunch [laughs] at 11:30 just in case you can blow the whole afternoon off.
• 4:46
No, I've, I've gotta go have a key made for my Fiat. Again with the key and the Fiat. I thought you went up there before. Well, they have to re- they have to reprogram the key. Oh, for pity's sake.
• 4:56
And then Molly and I are gonna have, since we're halfway there, on the way back we're gonna get, uh, Costco and- Nothing wrong with Costco, folks... walk into Costco expecting to spend 100 and...
• 5:04
Whoever walks into Costco expects to spend 150 bucks. They have- You always go in expecting to [laughs] spend 300. They have a very large bag of gourmet greasy almonds by Blue Diamond that are delicious. Which ones?
• 5:18
The, the- Olive oil. It's just, like, olive oil- Oh... and garlic and almonds. I like the srirachas. This is a new one. I, I like the smoked. This is, this, it looks fancier. Oh, okay. I'll check, I'll check 'em out.
• 5:27
So they normally have the specials. I like almonds. The specials, the samples have come out. Yeah. [laughs] So while we're talking about yesterday- Yeah... Chewy's salon chair number 17- Salon... got posted.
• 5:39
Right, that Chewy. [laughs] That, that would be one of the, that'd be the second post at Bike Berkey Show that was probably around midnight, which after listening to it, and I didn't really edit it.
• 5:51
I took out a couple minor things, but it's gonna be called the Stylist Dave Shitshow Edition. Nice. [laughs] You know, he's had a lot of nicknames over the year. Now it's Stylist Dave.
• 6:03
Well, I mean, he did ask Sealy Dave for permission to, to use- I, I like Staleca Dave better... Staleca Dave. That's, uh, well, and he's been Puck and he's been Doobie Dave. Yeah. Yeah.
• 6:12
There's a Doobie Dave story in there from the olden times during the, uh, Fat 40. Does it repeat at 18 times? That one might not be. Okay.
• 6:18
But Pete and Repeat, that's kinda my new name for Dave and Re-Dave, or whatever you wanna [laughs] call it. Dave and Beer Dave. I have a date- It is, I, I- I have a date with Dave on tomorrow... see, I don't know.
• 6:28
Do you? Yep. Do you? Why? Ministry, Melvins, and Corrosion of Conformity. Oh. Oh, that's gonna be a great show, even at the fucking Rave. Yep. That's yesterday? Melvins- No, or tomorrow... Saturday. Ah, tomorrow.
• 6:39
Tomorrow. Yep. Somebody else had tickets. That's what I damn said. I feel like I should probably go to that. Maybe. That's- Melvins is my destination band- Right... on that one. Yeah, yeah. And then, yep...
• 6:48
I mean, I, I've seen Ministry, I love Ministry. Love Ministry. I will, I was- Seen them many times... same thing with Corrosion. Yep. Yep, me too. Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun. But Melvins is always a fuck all draw, man.
• 6:57
So- There'll be a lot of people there... oh. Yeah. A lot of punky people. So I, I don't know if it will affect everybody the way it affected me, but my cheeks hurt from laughing so hard at that show. [laughs] Nice.
• 7:09
I'm gonna have to- Not the Melvins. This would be the [laughs]... [laughs] This would be, this would be Staleca Dave's- So what you're saying-... shit show...
• 7:14
Dave, uh, Dave, what you're saying, Greg, Greg, what you're saying- Sven... what you're saying, Sven- Sven. [laughs]... is that, uh, after I finish listening to this podcast, because [laughs] of course- Dr. Sushi... Dr.
• 7:28
Sushi-San, I should follow it up with choose. I would certainly give it a listen. You know- I would definitely give it a... You know all the characters involved- I, I do, I do... except for Kayla, and, uh, yeah.
• 7:38
All right. All right. I don't remember it being that funny when I was there at midnight or 12:30 when they did it, but- Well, that happens. Yeah... I was semi-awake, I think, for most of it. So let's talk about my ape.
• 7:51
[laughs] Oh, Tony's got a new bike. Yeah. Again. Well, you've had it for a couple weeks now, but it's actually- Well- It's actually- I rode it for the first time- It's actually mobile... on Sunday... it's rideable.
• 8:00
Yeah, after doing a lot more work on the house Sunday after having the help from everyone installing the door on Saturday. Oh, those are some pictures I should post of your big-ass- I know. It's a big-ass door...
• 8:08
your big-ass door. It's a pretty big-ass door. You know? It's bad. Yeah, I, I got in there and did a little- That's bad... cleanup work with the, with the Sawzall.
• 8:13
It, it, it's- I wasn't gonna do too much heavy lifting, but, uh- It's, uh, I'm, I'm... You know, shout-out to James, because he had said to me earlier that, you know, it's a lot lighter if you take the doors out.
• 8:24
Yeah, that was a good call. That was a really good call. You know what else was a good call? What's that? When I called him to wake him up to come over there. Yeah, that was a good [laughs] call too.
• 8:30
That was a good call too, 'cause I- But were, were we gonna do it- I sent several messages... yeah, were we gonna do it today? Uh, uh, I thought it was later. No, no, no. It's done. Uh, it turned- Turned out-...
• 8:40
turned out all right... really well. Um, and then Sunday, after doing some work, I was able to come here to the shop.
• 8:47
And, uh, Greg, I still have to find pedals because I couldn't find any, but I finished off the seat post and sticky seat. And- Oh, that sticky seat is... Well, especially with the tall seat post...
• 8:59
I, yeah, I took the ape for a ride and it's probably, this is really funny, my, my 26-inch wheel fat bike might be my shortest wheelbase bike I own. Wow. I mean, that thing is- It is... so tight.
• 9:13
[laughs] It's, it's tight. Um- Hey, guess what else is tight? Uh- Uh-oh... we gotta push a button. Oh, push the button. Now, I gotta go back to it, though, 'cause I have a good story. Yeah, yeah.
• 9:21
Welcome to the radio program, caller. Who do we have on the line? Hola. It's me, Shannon. I'm down in Texas. Eh. Oh. [laughs] Hey, Shannon. Hey. What, what are you doing in Tejas?
• 9:33
I could finally call up and- Box nine Shannon... uh, 80-something. No, box nine Shannon. 80 is funny. Right on, man. How's it going? Uh, what are you doing in Texas? Uh, I took a week vacation.
• 9:47
My sister-in-law and brothers-in-law live down here, so we're staying at their pad and swimming and eating tacos and- Tacos... drinking margaritas and getting some bike riding in. Did you- Nice...
• 9:58
take one of your own, or do you have access to other bikes down there? No, I brought the ice cream truck down with me, so. Stop it while I'm behind. What do you... Is that what you have the box nine on? Yeah.
• 10:09
Yeah, I got my Wren fork on it, the Wren parts, and then the box nine, which I'm really getting to like, so. I'm really, really enjoying it. Yep, Tony's a new box nine owner as well. All right. Wow. I really like it.
• 10:22
Yeah, I, I had a little bit of an issue 'cause, uh, when I first hooked it up, 'cause of the, my D-hanger was off just a little bit askew. It's somewhat sensitive to chain line as well.
• 10:34
But once you get it dialed in- Ah... that thing is really good. Mm. Yeah, it's been great. So today went to some trail called Deception, and there's a lot of rocks out here. [laughs] What, what part of Texas are you in?
• 10:49
Did, did I miss that? Austin. Uh, Austin, Round Rock area. The only, the only place for, for real people to go in Texas, as far as I can tell. Yeah. Hill Country. Right. Yeah. For sure. So, uh, any bleeding?
• 11:04
Did you wipe out? No, I did, I didn't hurt myself, but I walked a lot. Ah. I did a lot of hike or bike. Ah. I do have to get back to work next week, but- Right. Impromptu cyclo-cross. Yeah, for sure.
• 11:17
[laughs] You didn't take- I didn't see another fat bike or any other hard tails on the trail either. They're all full squishies out here. Wow. Do they have all those little goat head, uh, thorny things?
• 11:28
Yeah, those annoying things. Uh, yeah, the big, the big green things that have massive thorns, that if you fall to the left or the right of the trail you're gonna get pricked. Or it'll pop a tire in an instant.
• 11:40
I was riding an unfamiliar- Oh, yeah. [laughs] I was riding an unfamiliar bike in Las Vegas that I rented from the local shop by the Red Rock Trails, and cased the very first jump on the trail and hit a cactus.
• 11:55
[laughs] They're not that great. [laughs] Oh. You don't... No, you don't wanna hit, you don't wanna hit cactus. Yeah, you're peeling, you're peeling those out for a minute or two. Oh, gosh, yeah.
• 12:01
I kinda rode the- Man, that's funny... I rode the front tire right into it kind of, like, sideways, and I just- Kinda like-... kinda, like, put my shoulder into it and was, like, poked my stomach. Oh, ow.
• 12:08
Speaking of like the Dave, the Dave wheelie into the unforgiving pylon. [laughs] Oh, that was the best. Oh, that was the best. I wish we had a video of that. [laughs] It would've been great. Right on. Are you done?
• 12:18
So how's everything else going up there? Oh, uh- Hmm. Hmm... well, it warmed up today just a little bit. So yeah, so it's, it's- I don't-... getting a little better. I don't know.
• 12:27
You've se- you've gone through the seesaw weather here in, uh, s- the central part of the United States 'merica. Well, I mean, we laugh.
• 12:36
We had one weekend where it was 60, and then the next weekend it was like 10 degrees. It was stupid, so I'm glad to be down here for a while. But I'm hoping it's warmed up by the time I get home.
• 12:44
Like dune buggy weather kinda stuff? Yes. [laughs] Is that a Manx? What is that dune buggy? It's a Manx clone. It's a Potty Industries, P-O-T-T-Y- Right on... so Potty- That's a name...
• 12:59
I guess, made them back in the '70s. [laughs] Yeah, those are cool. So I did, I did my research on it.
• 13:06
This winter it did get some work done to it, so it's got a new exhaust, new windshield, seat belts for the girls in the back. Got a bike- Good idea... bike rack up on top of the, uh, roll bar? Uh, that was for...
• 13:20
That's fine if the girls don't sit back there, 'cause if I jab the brakes their heads, their forehead's gonna go in the back of the rack. Oh, that's not good. Yeah. Oh, that would be bad.
• 13:28
Googly eyes on the, uh- So I, I, yeah, I had to take that off... put the googly eyes on the headlights. But I'll go visit you guys with that thing. I'll take another Wednesday off and come visit. Yeah.
• 13:37
Yeah, you should do that. I did promise, I, I did promise Tony and Daniel a ride, too- Yeah... on the Beach Line. Yeah. We're gonna do that, and then we're gonna do it in my Eos. Why would you do that? Just for fun.
• 13:49
[laughs] Why? [laughs] But why? Right on, right on. Uh, um, wait, there are... Wait, is there? Let's check. Is there? Let's... [bell rings] Are there any- Oh... hills by you? Oh, made it.
• 14:04
[laughs] Are you at the top of a hill, wherever you are?
• 14:07
Oh, I do wanna set things straight because Chewie's, w- Che- Chewie's show we posted yesterday, he's talking about how the other guys, that's us, do this top of the hill thing, and they drink the whole way up the hill.
• 14:17
I'm like, yeah, we drink up the hill, too. Yeah, I know. It's not like we- We just don't celebrate it. Yeah. Yeah. [laughs] We're not, it's not like it's a really, a important part of it. It's, you know- We're nasty...
• 14:26
get to the top. We're nasty. Yeah. Well, if they give me a hand up at the bottom of the hill, I'll drink- There, yeah, exactly. All right... right. A hand what? A wristie. [laughs] Hand up. A hand who? A wristie? Whoa.
• 14:39
[laughs] So are you, are you- What kind of-... imbibing out there, sir? Oh, I have been, yes. Uh, the other day I had a Lone Star beer. It's- Yeah...
• 14:49
okay, but we're currently having a margarita that is, uh, Jose Cuervo and margarita mix. Mm. Yeah. On the rocks, not frozen. Mm-hmm. On the Lone Star beer, was it in bottle? Yeah, it was in a bottle.
• 15:05
Did it have- I mean, you had to have one. We were at this- Yeah. Right... did, but did it have- We were at a local bar... did it have the little pictogram, pictogram, uh, puzzle on the bottle cap?
• 15:15
I think they've gotten rid of that. What was that? They have, like, a, like, a puzzle pictogram- Yeah, on the bottom of their caps... of the bott- of the bottle caps... on the insides- Yeah... of their caps, if you will.
• 15:24
Oh, I'm gonna have, now I'm gonna have to check. All right. Well, have another one. Yeah. [laughs] You're gonna have to have another 12-pack or something. [laughs] You still got a few more days there, right?
• 15:34
To- Tony brought us some beer today. This is, uh, this is Jai Alai. I, I don't think... Did we have this before? I don't know. I, I- If we did, it was a really long time ago. It was a while ago.
• 15:42
It's from, uh- Although our very tall ceilings in this belie a Jai Alai court. Don't they, though? But we don't have granite walls. Where the hell is Cigar City Brewing? It is in- Tampa, Florida... Tampa, Florida. Yeah.
• 15:54
So it made the trip. Which would make sense, because Jai Alai is one of the coolest games in the world- And it's-... 'cause it's really fast, and you can bet on it. There you go.
• 16:01
It's like horse racing but with people and- So-... big things and hard balls and kinda granite walls... and it's part of the opening credits of Miami Vice. [sings] There you go. There you go.
• 16:11
[sings] All right, hot, hot, hot summer. It's an okay, it's an okay, it's an okay beer. Michael Mann. It's an okay beer. I have... [laughs] I will take a swallow now. You can take a swallow now. I...
• 16:21
[sighs] Oh, yeah, Michael Mann. [laughs] Well, but we...
• 16:24
Okay, so the- Well, gentlemen- So, okay Sh- [laughs] Under- gentlemen, I'm gonna have to get, leave you and get back to the family, but I wanted to finally call in since, uh, normally I work Wednesday nights, so, or nights.
• 16:35
Well, right on, Shannon. Right on. And, and when you can make a trip up here from way down there in Woodstockville or wherever you're at, uh, we'd sure love to have you. Yeah, absolutely. Be great to see you again.
• 16:45
Absolutely. We gotta get some riding in. Yep. You- Right on, dude. Have a good- All right... have a good, safe trip, and, uh- All right, guys. Have a good one. We'll talk to you soon... get home safely.
• 16:51
Let me know when you're home. I will do. Peace. Later, bros. Yep. Bye. Hey, everybody. That was, uh, Shannon. Un- [laughs] So- An, an un- unbeknownst to us call from Shannon...
• 17:05
so I have to talk about the- Well, we gotta-... the ape... can we finish the Jai Alai? We have to finish the Jai Alai. Then we can talk about the- We were talking about the sport...
• 17:13
also, and I did want to- Not the beer... make note of the fact that we were drinking Dale's Pale Ale on the way up the hill- Prior, yeah, which is-... which I really love... yeah, absolutely...
• 17:19
and the Jai Alai is a little different. It, it- It's like if I was expecting another Dale's- I-... I would've been happy. But, and this isn't bad, it's just different. It is a totally different beer. But it is an IPA.
• 17:31
And it's an IPA versus a Dale's Pale ale. Right. I don't even know where we're at on the ABV on this thing. Dang old can. Six hop varieties. Well, you know, there, it's complex flavor then, and it's also 7.50 alcoholsie.
• 17:44
65 IBUs. But Dale's has the little place where you bump- Right... like this. It's- That's the best thing about a Dale's can, is you can- Yeah, so you can- You can always smoke your Mary Jane out of there.
• 17:53
Well, you can out of any can, but- Yeah, but it's-... Dale's just gives you a screen... yeah. Just saying. So I, I have to go back to- It's actually a screened screen-... the ape... because it's screen printed. Screen.
• 18:03
So that's- To- Tony's not gonna let this ape thing go. I got to ride- He, he, he's-... the ape down to get my tickets- He's doubling back... at, uh, Pabst box office. Good, good on you, man.
• 18:13
Uh, I rode down to Pabst box off- I was all prepared for my ape to get wet for the first time... rolled down- Are, was it moist? It actually was gorgeous. Yeah. I rolled down to- Are you kidding?...
• 18:24
Pap's Box Office, got tickets to, uh, August 22nd. Oh, I'm drawing a blank. The Avory Corporation? No, I'm already going to see them. No. Okay. But, um, P- Psychedelic Furs?... Hall.
• 18:37
[laughs] The, The Joy Division tour, um, honor- Peter Hook and the Light? Peter Hook and the Light, thank you. [laughs] Uh, Psychedelic Furs are at Summerfest, I believe.
• 18:45
Yeah, you know, no, they're, well, they're at, uh, Turner, but it's the same day as the People's Holiday. I don't think they're at Summerfest. No. Yeah, but you started with a P.
• 18:53
[laughs] So- There's some- Peter Hook and the Light is awesome... but, but I'm going back to this. But, so- So got my tickets to Peter Hook- When are you playing?...
• 19:00
and I decide to, they're August 22nd, day before my 55th birthday. Uh, we are, I'm rolling down Water, and all right, here's where I have to kinda get weird on you. There are two food trucks
• 19:16
parked across the street from, not Zad's, what's, you know, the- I don't know... the brewery there or the, the bar there, you know? They have their, their signs are covered
• 19:30
and their door, their windows are, like, curtained shut. I'm like, well, now it's a restaurant. How can they pull this shit off if they get permanent parking? I'm getting, I'm, I'm being very political.
• 19:43
I'm, yeah, I'm not following you, though. Um- I don't know. Even geographically... you, you have a food truck that gets to stay permanently in one location. Oh, like Vagabond? Then that's a restaurant. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
• 19:51
Oh. It's like, well, then it's a restaurant that's just on wheels. Kinda. Which is- Truck Stop is doing kinda the same thing...
• 19:56
kind of unfair to restaurants that have to have rent and- Well, don't you, if you have a food truck, have to have a commercial kitchen to cook? And you can't cook in your food truck. You, you are, you are correct.
• 20:05
Certain things cannot- You need to prepare it somewhere... yeah, have to be done in a commercial kitchen. But, well- Yes, like Buena Vista on Capital is a West Allis guy. Okay. I'm sorry.
• 20:14
It was just a weird thing I noticed on the way home on my Ape, which I have to say- But I think like that's where-... climb like a billy goat. [laughs] That Box Nine, that Box Nine is a really fun drivetrain.
• 20:25
And by the way, if you get a Box Nine drivetrain, make sure you get the Box chain because it's the only one long enough- To, to work with it...
• 20:32
yeah, because I don't know why the SRAM chains are only 116 links, and a Box chain's 126. Mm.
• 20:38
But the 116 link chain is not quite long enough for whatever we've got going on with that bike, and so you're locked out of your, even your- Yeah, I'm-... your billy goat gear... right. That's, that's incredible.
• 20:50
Your granny gear. Yeah. Yeah. So you still have another- That is an incredibly fun bike to ride.
• 20:54
Well, what I like about it even more so than, like, a 12-speed SRAM is that your, most of the gears you use are still pretty close together. Right. And then you have, like, three bailout gears. Right.
• 21:03
It's like they're- Mm-hmm... you know, you're, you're giving up- You're-... kinda, but you're still riding. You're gonna hate me for saying this. Mm-hmm. It would make an incredible mid-drive Bafang- God, I hate you...
• 21:17
72 volt- Ah. 72 volt mid-drive. No, no. That would be- Why? [laughs] That would be, like, a 45 mile an hour- Yeah... mountain bike. No. I know. Also- I'm not doing it, but I'm thinking about it...
• 21:31
the most patient man in the world has been waiting- Oh... on [laughs] on, on the thing. Oh, all right. Uh, welcome to radio program. Caller, who do we have on the line? What's happening, y'all? It's Big Sexy.
• 21:45
[laughs] Sexy. Do you know how I know it's Big Sexy? Because j- in two, two call- 'Cause what? I wait forever and I don't hang up? Right. Well, two calls from now you will have called us 50 times.
• 21:55
You're on your 48th call right now. You know how many states there are- Oh, shit... you know how many states there are in the continental United States? 48. 48. Coincidence? I think not. I fear not.
• 22:07
[laughs] How are you doing, dude? How is, what, how did that tornado down there affect you?
• 22:13
Well, I'll tell you what, um, uh, I was, I was like a little, a little down and it barely rained, but Heather was right where the tornado hit, and, uh, and Heather made it through. Oh.
• 22:28
And now tonight we're supposed to be getting more storms, and, uh, the tarps are, uh, being tested today. Um, we got more storms coming in, but, uh, but- Hey-... I'll tell you what...
• 22:41
y- This neighborhood is called Arabi. You, you- A-R-A-B-I... you're kinda muffled, bro. I don't know what happened, but you were real clear- Oh... now you're real muffled. Oh, okay. Uh, I- Now you're better...
• 22:54
think I didn't- Way better... use the microphone. That's way better. Are you mic- are, are you Dave Lunzing it by putting it on your shoulder and then sticking the microphone on your cheek?
• 23:02
'Cause, yeah, let's not do that. Maybe I moved it a little bit or something like that. Now you sound great. But, um, okay. A, A-R-A-B-I, Ar- A- Arabi,
• 23:13
um, got, it was a tornado last Tuesday, Tuesday afternoon, Tuesday evening. And, uh, now we got some more storms coming in, and, um, where I'm at right now is, uh, all tarped up, and, uh,
• 23:28
the, the main, the main part of the area, uh, where I stay is, is pretty good. It, it's, uh, we got electricity and everything like that, but the- [laughs]... the tar- the tarps are being tested.
• 23:40
It's windy as fuck, and we got more weather coming in tonight, so hopefully we'll make it through. But I got a job and, uh, and I'm gonna finish that job and I'm gonna hit the road on Sunday. Oh, right on. Yeah.
• 23:55
So I'll be, I'll be- This delayed your, this delayed your departure by a week or so, maybe a little more? Yeah, about a week and a half or so.
• 24:02
I w- I was gonna, I was gonna, um, hit the road last Sunday, but then this hit and- Yeah. See-... it was just-... whatever's going on with that microphone's going on again.
• 24:10
I don't know what's going on, but it, you just- Oh, shit. I, I- Get, get, put, just talk into the phone like a, like a normal person. I don't know. I, I'll... Hold on, hold on a sec. Now it's, now it's chilling.
• 24:21
Let me, let me, let me see here. How is this? It's all great. Yep. You're good to go. It's okay? Yep. Yep. Until we scold you again. I'm, I'm, I'm sorry.
• 24:32
Um- [laughs] No, it's just that we wanna hear what you're saying, and it sounds like this: hu-ru-zu-ru-ru-ru. And we need to hear that. And then we don't know what that means.
• 24:41
Well- It's like, you know what we need is Kayla to- Well-... to translate. [laughs] I'll tell you what. Th- this little, this little community right here is, is literally across the street from New Orleans.
• 24:55
It's, it's like barely in the next parish over. And, uh, the, the community has a, a heart of stone, man. They, they, they are
• 25:06
ready and, and they're rebuilding and there's free hot meals every day and blah, blah, blah, and they're... Everybody's helping everybody out. It is... It's been, it's been wonderful.
• 25:17
And, uh, the, the weird thing with tornadoes is, is like there's three, three destroyed homes over here, but then the next... Then w- what... Across the street, that, that next house didn't have any damage at all.
• 25:31
Mm-hmm. Yeah, that's how tornadoes go. Yeah. They really- We have that here... they're very selective- Yeah... in their destructive path. Yeah. And we're, um, we're under a tornado watch all night tonight.
• 25:43
The band of storms is about to, about to hit. Uh, I, I'm, I'm guessing lightning isn't gonna strike twice, but whatever. But yeah, it, it definitely delayed me. Uh, it delayed me a week or two, and, um,
• 25:58
turns out I had a, I got a little job in the French Quarter to, uh, to do as well, so I'm making a couple bucks and ma- I'm making some walking around money. And, uh, I'm probably hitting the road on Sunday,
• 26:12
and then I'm heading north. Nice. So, uh, watch out River West, I'm coming for you. [laughs] We're ready. We're, we're gonna hunker down and- That's what we want...
• 26:22
we're gonna get our machine gun nests ready and, uh- Yeah... see you on approach. [laughs] Well, I d- I definitely, I definitely wanna ride bikes and make out for sure. Well, Annie's around somewhere.
• 26:34
Yeah, you'll find Annie. Her cousin just moved out of this building. Oh. Right. And, uh, um, Heather's ready to go. I need to tighten the chains and I need to, I need to get ex- a couple new tires, but then...
• 26:48
But that, that's just a shopping list, you know, so I'm, I'm pretty much ready to go. And, uh, but you know what? I- i- w- w- this tornado hit the, hit the area, and this is where I stayed in 2020 as well.
• 27:03
This is the area I stayed in 2020. And the, the house I stayed in, in 2020 was undamaged, but, um, one block over, the whole block was just blown off the map. Oh, shit. Mm-hmm. Yeah. And- It's crazy stuff... so, uh...
• 27:20
Yeah, and so we're, we're gonna see what happens tonight. I'm, I'm, I'm guessing that lightning isn't gonna strike twice.
• 27:26
It's not like it's gonna happen, like, you know, like in the exact same area or something like that, but- Yeah. Yeah, knocked on wood for you... we're gonna see what happens tonight, dude. Uh, huh.
• 27:37
It's been fucking windy as- It's lightning that doesn't strike twice... it's been windy- Tornadoes- Windy as fuck all day... that's why they call things tornado alley. Yeah, but so here's the deal with tornadoes.
• 27:45
[laughs] Back in the early 1900s, guess how many people were in the United States? None. Tornadoes happened all the time. They just didn't hit anything- Right... 'cause there weren't any towns.
• 27:53
Now there's towns- Right... every freaking where, and so, you know, they get- Right... they get plowed over because tornadoes are indiscriminate. Well- They, they go where they go.
• 28:02
There was one that almost went through- Right. Well, and, and-... a fucking prison where I worked... and I'll tell you, I'll tell you what. [laughs] Uh- That would be like, "Oh, shit"... oh my God.
• 28:09
"Do I have to go into work?" Now, now, now it's happening on your end. That's 'cause everybody's talking at once, and then it gets all mushy mushy. Oh. Oh, yeah. Uh- We're getting excited over here.
• 28:20
Oh, you guys, gotcha, gotcha. But, um- Wa, wa, wa, wa. But this thing is the communication, the communication's so much, so much more now that we actually hear about it. We hear about it when it happens,
• 28:33
not like two weeks after it happens. Like, oh my God, this, this, this, uh, town in Kansas got wiped off the map- Yeah... by a tornado. Pony Express though. People in, people in Kansas City and St.
• 28:45
Louis wouldn't hear about that for a couple weeks. Very true. You know? But now we hear about it the day after. Seconds after. Yeah, for sure. All right.
• 28:54
Well, we're gonna wrap this puppy up, but thanks for calling in, and let us know- All right. Yeah... when you are actually on the road, and we'll start to follow your- Make sure you're safe...
• 29:03
progression through our sacred United States of America. 'Merica. I will call on Wednesday. I'll probably be somewhere in Alabama on Wednesday. Cool. All right. Is that- Lord loves a working- That's Crimson Tide.
• 29:15
Go Tide. Yeah. Go Tide. Lord loves a working man. [laughs] Don't trust a hippie. Somewhere, somewhere in Alabama. Ooh. All right, Big Sexy. Thanks for calling, brother. Peace. Hey, no problem, guys.
• 29:28
River West is the best. Take it out. It is, yo. Right. Glad you're safe. Bye. All right. Big Sexy flirting with torna- dancing with tornadoes. Nay. Nay dancing with- Yeah... tornadoes. I, I do not- Tornados...
• 29:41
wanna dance with a tornado. No, no. That's- It's NFA... I, I love- I mean, have you ever been through one? Oh, yeah. No. Many. Yeah, they're... Many in River West. Well, okay. No- Zero-... Oshkosh... in River...
• 29:50
Yeah, by gosh. Yeah. [laughs] That's why I love- Three in Oshkosh... that's why I love the Milwaukee bubble. It's just... Yes. That would be- Tornadoes will go through, but they're above...
• 30:01
They're not gonna be down s- like cone, you know- That would be your sea-... twisters... your, your Sea of Michigan over there keeps them from coming down upon our- No, the-... local city... it's the Sea of Wisconsin.
• 30:09
Lake Michigan- Sea of Wiscon- Yeah. Sea of Wisconsin. Whatever. You know what I mean. Lake Michigan is the Sea of Wisconsin, for the who's at home.
• 30:15
[laughs] All I'm saying is it's all because of that big-ass lake that we don't get tornadoes in Milwaukee. Right. Thank- We get 'em, but they're above- Thank you, Lord... the cloud system. Thank you, Jesus.
• 30:25
Thank you, Jesus I ran 30 red lights in his honor Hey poor. Hey poor. Hey poor, you don't have to be poor anymore. Jesus is here Hey poor, you don't have to be poor anymore.
• 30:34
Jesus is here Hey poor, you don't have to be poor anymore. Jesus is here. [laughs] Oh, God, I l- I have that on- Hey poor-... LP, uh, EP somewhere... you don't have to be Jesus. Uh, Nick- Join in the chat...
• 30:44
Nick Basman played at, at, uh, um, uh, Bremen. So did we get through your- When he finally got in there... now that we're nearing the end of the show- Are we still recording? [laughs] Did we get through your box story?
• 30:57
Yeah, Billy goat, we talked about that. I- Right on. It climbs like a billy goat... um, I highly recommend it, it... So here's the deal, as I was trying to explain to my wife, who's... Anyway, my wife. Um, [laughs]
• 31:09
people are all jonesing about 11, 12 and 13-speed drivetrains, which are really cool, I admit. But when you look at a Box nine 9-speed, which does almost the same 500, 480- Sure, sure. Yeah, yeah...
• 31:27
in a 9-speed chain, if you're a cheap-ass Polack like me, this drivetrain makes all the sense in the world. And here's the better thing: that chain is way wide compared to a 12-speed chain.
• 31:38
And it will last way longer Especially if you're gonna grind through sand and get it all yucky- What?... and make a s- you know. Here I am. Yeah, the only better thing, Rohloff. Right But those are really expensive.
• 31:49
Yeah. Yeah. So- Yeah, no, I agree. I, we-... I, I really highly recommend checking out the Box drivetrains... and while they do have a super nice high-end one, not super necessary.
• 31:58
It really, the, the mid, the mid-range one that you have is badass. I have a Box two. The Box three is also pretty reasonable. And the Box one is, you know, high performance-er. Is that what it is? Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
• 32:08
More, more high performance-er. N- as in lighter weight, basically Fancy arts. This works... basic-erly. [laughs] Is that a real word?
• 32:14
So I had fun because my Schlick finally got a new shoe on it, and I'm so happy about it. And on Friday, I was like, "Oh, I'm g- just gonna take it out." It was wet and rainy and just been, you know, whatever, mistent.
• 32:29
Go over by the alumni house, and they're doing a bunch of construction, and muddy as hell, and I'm like, "Oh, mu- I'm like, wait, no, this is why I have a bicycle of this nature. Wee, boop-a-boomp-a-boomp, shmop."
• 32:39
Just- The alumni house on the lake? Yes. Did you know that's Andy Nunemaker's house now? No. No. Andy Nunemaker's house. No. Did you know him from- Oh, that, my wife went to Valparaiso with him- Oh...
• 32:51
back in the olden times. Okay, so I've been riding through his yard, essentially? I guess. I don't know.
• 32:56
Did you just randomly found all the stone- In fact, if you can ride through his house, I would imagine that that would be an awesome thing... I've been in that place many times. Yeah, as an alumni house.
• 33:03
Here you are, um, yeah. He- Okay, s- oh, okay, this makes a hell of a lot more sense, then, 'cause, like, whatever the grounds are, there's, like, a fucking pool being con- There was a pool.
• 33:10
They, they never finished it, and all the stone that he needs is underneath it. Yeah. So there's a lot of shit going on, and I'm just- Yeah, absolutely... well, I'm just, yeah.
• 33:19
Well, okay, so this, some- [laughs] That place, I don't care what you guys say, that place is haunted as fuck. Oh, it can be. Yeah, well, and it was, you know, so it was UWM's property for many years. Forever.
• 33:27
Yeah, for a very long time. And it's a- I didn't know it wasn't... wait, wait, I don't remember the origin. It's a beer baron or, you know, some, some industrial- Um, it, it had a private mistress entrance to the house.
• 33:36
That was built- I'm just saying who originally owned it... yeah. But the point is, there were many suitors for that place- Mm...
• 33:41
and Andy got it because he agreed to spend whatever it took to bring it back to its former glory, which not everybody would do. And he's already said he's done go-grow doing it.
• 33:49
I would have done motocross stuff inside the house, you know? And they, they don't want that. Wait, it's that Andy? Motor scooter Andy? No, not that. No. Okay. I, okay. I just say, no, uh. Sorry.
• 34:01
I, I don't know Nunemaker. No. You think he's got 5 million bucks to spend on a house? I don't know. I don't know. Well, maybe he does, but- I, you know... anyway, we're getting into local politic in here. Right.
• 34:10
Or, or- Let's stop that now... [laughs] some fuckery or whatever. Shit. Uh, a- Go, Bob Donovan... anyway, hey, good, you know what's cool about this?
• 34:15
We got a whole bunch of shit to talk about next week we didn't get to this week, and, uh, by cracky we'll do that next week. Uh- Yeah... show number 159 if you believe it. Yeah. Alpha Romeo. Let's just, uh, Bob Donovan.
• 34:23
Another Alpha Romeo show coming on. Woo-hoo! Woo-hoo!
• 34:26
  [upbeat music]
