- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am

- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking and just bring
- 0:20some. Joy into the world.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Hey everybody, good afternoon
- 0:31from the chicken coop. So today we are talking about
- 0:35our past and how our past does not define who you are.
- 0:39I've had multiple conversations about this over the years and
- 0:44how we have to let go of certain things in order to see things
- 0:48change, and the past is one of them.
- 0:51Your past does not define who you are, and you've got to
- 0:55surrender to the fact that it's not going to help you expand.
- 1:00Focusing on your past, the the concepts of yourself that are
- 1:03from the past are based on who you were at that point in time.
- 1:07But right now, there's not a cell in you that was the same as
- 1:11it was when you were in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade.
- 1:14I mean, biologically we know cells constantly are dying off
- 1:18and new ones are born and everything changes over.
- 1:21And so on a cellular level, you definitely are not the same
- 1:24person that you were at those points in time.
- 1:27Now, why is it so important to let go of this?
- 1:30Why is it so important to change this and change your approach
- 1:33with things? Because it's only through
- 1:35letting go that you can get to that higher version of yourself
- 1:38that you want to be. If you continue to hang on to
- 1:41that past version of yourself, you can't grow now, Really
- 1:47important distinction. It doesn't mean you let go of
- 1:50the things about you that you love.
- 1:53Like, I would never let go of my creativity.
- 1:55I would never let go of things that I don't think serve, that I
- 1:58think serve me. But the things that don't serve
- 2:00me, the things that like being in a constant state of anxiety,
- 2:04well, that never serves me. However, having anxiety on my
- 2:08bus, well, yeah, that can serve me when I need it to.
- 2:11So I mean, earlier today, I was very out there.
- 2:15I was out with the girls walking and there was in fire ants and I
- 2:18had on flip flops and I was like, right, My anxiety went
- 2:21through the roof because I wanted to move away from them.
- 2:24But guess what? That was good.
- 2:25I didn't stay in it. I got right out of it, but I let
- 2:28go of the version of myself that hung on to anxiety all the time
- 2:32because that's not going to help me get there.
- 2:34It doesn't serve me to do that anymore and my consciousness
- 2:37doesn't want it. It wants to go to a different
- 2:39place. So if I'm going to really work
- 2:41on manifesting things in my life, I have to make sure that
- 2:46I, I make the, the choice to say, I have to let go of this.
- 2:51So when's the last time you actually sat down and said, I'm
- 2:54going to let go of these things that were in my past that I
- 2:57don't think served me anymore? And I'm going to change my
- 2:59approach to it. And I think it's super important
- 3:02to do that because if you don't change that approach, you're
- 3:06you're going to take it with you and you're inevitably going to
- 3:09run into the problems with it. So how do you let go of it?
- 3:13That's always the big question. How do I let go?
- 3:16Well, the first thing is you make a decision that you want to
- 3:19not have that be part of your present, your future.
- 3:23And it's not part of the identity you have now.
- 3:25It's part of the past. And when you make that
- 3:29distinction and you clarify that to yourself, it becomes a heck
- 3:32of a lot easier to not let yourself go there when it comes
- 3:36up. So for an example, I had when I,
- 3:40we were, you know, first Mark and I were first together and we
- 3:44were trying to have a child. I had multiple miscarriages and
- 3:47it became part of my identity. And I realized that I was doing
- 3:50that because these miscarriages meant that I was less than to
- 3:54me. There were things that were
- 3:55happening. I couldn't I the, the even
- 3:57though we could get pregnant, we just couldn't get past week 9.
- 4:01And it happened five times. And that's a lot to endure in a
- 4:06process. And it became part of my, I was
- 4:09saying to this thing, well, I have miscarriages.
- 4:11And I was recognizing how much it became part of my identity.
- 4:15As soon as I made the distinction and I realized what
- 4:18I was doing, I was able to say, this is not my identity.
- 4:22This is not who I choose to be. I choose to be the person that
- 4:26is the mom, that is the that wants to have another child.
- 4:30And in that distinction, I was able to change my approach of
- 4:33how that happened. And ultimately we adopted my
- 4:36son. And I would not have done that
- 4:39if I was hanging on to the past, even the not so far in the past
- 4:43past, it would have shifted me. It would have made me keep going
- 4:46to that because I felt like I was failing, even though it was
- 4:49had nothing to do with being my fault.
- 4:52So the reality is when you look at it and you really dig into
- 4:56it, you can make these distinctions that will help
- 4:59shift you in your awareness and how you're doing things.
- 5:03And all of a sudden, it won't be your your destiny to have the
- 5:07the past dictate the present and the future.
- 5:10It'll be you making choices about it, you making really
- 5:13smart choices about it, and you having some very big
- 5:16distinctions about how you want it to look because that's what
- 5:19shifts things. That's what makes things great.
- 5:22So go out there and remember, your past does not define you.
- 5:25It doesn't dictate you. You decide what that is.
- 5:29All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:31will see you all tomorrow. Bye.
