- 0:00Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I come from it. I was
- 0:01Speaker 1: really outside. I was in it, you know, heavy, hustling.
- 0:05Speaker 1: You know, even though I went to college and did
- 0:06Speaker 1: all that, too, I was still connected to that. And
- 0:08Speaker 1: what kind of, like, shook me was I got caught
- 0:10Speaker 1: up in dope gun charge, and I was looking at
- 0:13Speaker 1: 25 years to life, and I beat it on a technicality.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Wow. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It's a real thing.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Now, looking at a situation like, look, Dirk, does that
- 0:22Speaker 3: make you be more cautious about, like, your team? Because
- 0:26Speaker 3: these are people that was around Dirk for... Some of
- 0:29Speaker 3: these people grew up with Dirk.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Rob Markman, Jr.
- 0:31Speaker 2: How many people do you think that we lost that
- 0:33Speaker 2: could have been great?
- 0:35Speaker 1: Man, I don't even know how much time we got.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Rob Markman, Jr.
- 0:37Speaker 2: From Chicago alone, how many people that you saw that
- 0:41Speaker 2: we lost that could have been.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Somebody? Bro, Dirk and I was the voice on the
- 0:48Speaker 1: whole of the city and of anybody because I come
- 0:51Speaker 1: from the worst scenario and the most adverse and made
- 0:53Speaker 1: so many mistakes to put myself back and I still
- 0:55Speaker 1: kept moving. If you think there is not a God,
- 0:59Speaker 1: look at me, and I'm telling you, it is one.
- 1:01Speaker 1: If I'm here, here it is. It's my festival run
- 1:03Speaker 1: for a short film that I co-wrote, co-produced. You hustling.

- 1:41Speaker 4: that's the ball alert. Yeah, that's the ball alert. Yeah,
- 1:44Speaker 4: that's the ball alert.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Broadcasting live from the Nega Law Firm studios. Welcome to
- 1:53Speaker 2: the Bar Alert Show.
- 1:53Speaker 5: I'm Ferrari Simmons. I'm You Know BT.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Vi City, what's up, big dog?
- 1:56Speaker 5: What's happening?
- 1:57Speaker 2: How you doing?
- 1:58Speaker 1: I'm blessed, bro. I can't even complain. Very blessed.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Now, to the people who just seen you for the
- 2:02Speaker 2: first time, where is Vi City from?
- 2:04Speaker 1: I'm from Chicago, man. South side from the hundreds in
- 2:07Speaker 1: this neighborhood called the Gods. I'll give Gods. The Gods. Gardens.
- 2:11Speaker 5: Gardens, okay.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that's my accent. You know Chicago.
- 2:14Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I'm from the gardens in Chicago on the south side.
- 2:18Speaker 5: Only do it from the South Side.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yeah, from the South Side, pray tell. My English teacher
- 2:22Speaker 1: would love that.
- 2:23Speaker 2: No, for sure.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's a, hundreds, everybody knows Chicago, they know
- 2:28Speaker 1: it's on the South Side, so if you're familiar with it,
- 2:30Speaker 1: it's from 130th, and I went to Cobb Military, so
- 2:33Speaker 1: you know, everybody from there, they know that.
- 2:36Speaker 2: How long you been doing music?
- 2:38Speaker 1: You know what? I don't even have the time no more.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I've been doing it for so long, since I was
- 2:43Speaker 1: a shorty, so like, you know, everybody from like, freestyling
- 2:46Speaker 1: on the CTA, just going at cash and then putting
- 2:48Speaker 1: stuff together. I've been doing it professionally and making money
- 2:52Speaker 1: off it for, like, the last, like, eight years, though. Okay. Like, because,
- 2:55Speaker 1: you know, this is a struggle, man. You can really
- 2:58Speaker 1: put so much into it, and then it take you
- 2:59Speaker 1: a while before you really see the fruits of your labor. So,
- 3:04Speaker 1: but I'm grateful to God that he put me in
- 3:06Speaker 1: a position to kind of, like, be able to move
- 3:08Speaker 1: this vision forward and show a lot of other people.
- 3:11Speaker 5: Now, the Garden, is there a good place over there
- 3:13Speaker 5: to eat? Or that's a place don't go to?
- 3:15Speaker 1: Nah, you don't want to go there.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:18Speaker 5: I just like to teach our listeners, you know, viewers.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Nah, it's a project, bro. It's like, you know, projects,
- 3:24Speaker 1: people know what projects are, man, when they put that together.
- 3:26Speaker 1: It's a project to keep black people from advancing and
- 3:29Speaker 1: killing ourselves, putting us against each other. It's one of those.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Very systematic, very set up.
- 3:33Speaker 3: So a lot of projects, to me, from what I
- 3:37Speaker 3: see in Chicago, looks like they're like gated in or
- 3:39Speaker 3: something like that.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Not all of them. Okay. Not all of them. Some
- 3:43Speaker 1: of them dilapidated as hell. Some of the buildings ran down.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Mine was row houses. So we was like really literally
- 3:51Speaker 1: boxed in next to each other. So we really wouldn't
- 3:53Speaker 1: know where to move.
- 3:54Speaker 5: Now what did that teach you growing up?
- 3:56Speaker 1: To work hard to get more space. Nah, for real.
- 4:01Speaker 1: It's just kind of like I had a good mom, bro.
- 4:04Speaker 1: She was like on my top. You know what I'm saying?
- 4:06Speaker 1: Even though I was outside doing other things, you know,
- 4:08Speaker 1: from the trenches, I was doing street stuff. She really
- 4:10Speaker 1: wouldn't let me. develop the mindset to be in it
- 4:13Speaker 1: to stay of it you might be from it but
- 4:16Speaker 1: don't be of it you feel me and um because
- 4:18Speaker 1: it's very easy to oh yeah it's easy I mean
- 4:20Speaker 1: it's even even to this day like with everything we
- 4:23Speaker 1: taught like with our emotions and how we're not loving
- 4:25Speaker 1: ourselves the way we should and not walking spiritually in
- 4:27Speaker 1: our um purpose and our disconnection with each other our
- 4:30Speaker 1: disconnection with God Almighty it teaches you that the more
- 4:35Speaker 1: of a nigga you could be the raw it is
- 4:37Speaker 1: because it you know and all of us from it
- 4:39Speaker 1: it teaches us this you know dog-eat-dog survival mentality, but
- 4:43Speaker 1: I've been really working mentally, spiritually, emotionally with my therapist
- 4:47Speaker 1: to try to grow and beyond surviving and start getting
- 4:50Speaker 1: into the thriving aspect of it. So what I learned
- 4:52Speaker 1: from that is it can get worse. Bless you, bless you.
- 4:56Speaker 1: It can get worse. Everything is what you make it,
- 5:01Speaker 1: and we control our own reality, man.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Now, not to get too into it, but.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Let's get to it. It's L.A., Yeah.
- 5:11Speaker 2: And it's Chicago, for real. Like, a very dangerous city.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:15Speaker 2: You know, if you're not alert, if you're not paying attention,
- 5:20Speaker 2: I feel like, shout out to your mom, you can
- 5:23Speaker 2: kind of get sucked into the culture of the violence.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I come from it. I was
- 5:30Speaker 1: really outside. I was in it, you know, heavy, hustling.
- 5:33Speaker 1: You know, even though I went to college and did
- 5:34Speaker 1: all that stuff, I was still connected to that. And
- 5:36Speaker 1: what kind of, like, shook me was I got caught
- 5:39Speaker 1: up in it. dope gun charge and I was looking
- 5:41Speaker 1: at 25 years to life and I beat it on
- 5:43Speaker 1: a technicality.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Wow.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a real thing. So it
- 5:48Speaker 1: kind of like, it reminds me.
- 5:49Speaker 2: A technicality. So that's a small detail.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Super small detail.
- 5:53Speaker 2: That's like, what, a percent? What's the percent that you?
- 5:56Speaker 1: I don't know the percent of it. I just know
- 5:59Speaker 1: whatever it is, I knew it was a blessing. Right.
- 6:02Speaker 1: And I knew that, that, you know, and I still
- 6:05Speaker 1: kind of dabbled in dumb shit a little bit after that.
- 6:07Speaker 1: But then after really looking at things, I was like, man,
- 6:11Speaker 1: you know, so much more to me. But to answer
- 6:13Speaker 1: your question, I think any city where it's impoverished, any
- 6:16Speaker 1: city where education ain't key, any city where, like, self-love
- 6:19Speaker 1: ain't key, any city where we're not taught to be
- 6:21Speaker 1: more into our, you know, growth, into our moment, patience,
- 6:26Speaker 1: emotional maturity, mental control, growth, all of that, it could
- 6:29Speaker 1: be dangerous anywhere. Chicago, L.A., New York, Philly, Atlanta, Miami,
- 6:34Speaker 1: you know, the Yams, Detroit, Little Memphis, all those places
- 6:37Speaker 1: because it's a lot of, poverty there's a lot of
- 6:40Speaker 1: lack of education it's a lot of not outlets to
- 6:43Speaker 1: kind of get these out and it's a lot of
- 6:45Speaker 1: us like black men young black men that really don't
- 6:47Speaker 1: understand how to communicate in a healthy manner because i
- 6:50Speaker 1: didn't and so you know i remember i was listening
- 6:54Speaker 1: to an interview with nip he was like i'm looking
- 6:55Speaker 1: for a cat with a t-shirt on it's wood basically
- 6:57Speaker 1: you're looking for yourself you're looking for yourself so i
- 7:01Speaker 1: think what we should you know do so it's dangerous
- 7:03Speaker 1: everywhere i think it's just those cities are bigger It's
- 7:06Speaker 1: more concentrated and it get more light because of how
- 7:09Speaker 1: many people there are. But shit, you got more politicians
- 7:11Speaker 1: coming out of D.C. You know, you got more business
- 7:14Speaker 1: people or it's Wall Street niggas in New York. It's
- 7:16Speaker 1: centralized where it's focused on. You know, and I think
- 7:18Speaker 1: those cities are meant to.
- 7:20Speaker 2: How many people do you think that we lost that
- 7:22Speaker 2: could have been great?
- 7:24Speaker 1: Man, I don't even know how much time we got.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Chicago alone. How many people that you saw that we
- 7:30Speaker 2: lost that could have been.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Bro, it's so. Somebody. We can't even quantify that number.
- 7:38Speaker 1: It's like so many that we ain't even never heard
- 7:40Speaker 1: of that never got a shot. Just the people alone,
- 7:44Speaker 1: we can go all the way back to Fred Hampton
- 7:46Speaker 1: and come all the way forward to like, even with
- 7:49Speaker 1: the situation with Dirk, I don't want to speak too
- 7:51Speaker 1: much on it, but even that situation, it's so many
- 7:54Speaker 1: different elements that could have been avoided. You feel me?
- 7:58Speaker 1: And I just... I hope that God see him through.
- 8:01Speaker 1: And I hope that the people in the families that's
- 8:03Speaker 1: affected by whatever, everybody can make it through. And I
- 8:05Speaker 1: hope that, you know, genuine justice or cosmic justice is
- 8:08Speaker 1: serving that, you know, the righteous get an opportunity. You
- 8:12Speaker 1: feel me?
- 8:12Speaker 3: Now, looking at a situation like, look, Dirk, does that
- 8:15Speaker 3: make you be more cautious about, like, your team? Because
- 8:19Speaker 3: these are people that was around Dirk for years. Some
- 8:22Speaker 3: of these people grew up with Dirk.
- 8:24Speaker 1: I've been cautious like that, though. You know, I always
- 8:28Speaker 1: was told that. If don't nobody know, can't nobody tell.
- 8:35Speaker 1: And that's with everything.
- 8:36Speaker 2: We just talked about something like this last episode.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's not to say anything and nothing illegal
- 8:43Speaker 1: or anything.
- 8:43Speaker 5: Correct, yeah.
- 8:44Speaker 1: It's just saying if you handle your business on your own,
- 8:49Speaker 1: whatever that is, and you build your foundation, whatever it is,
- 8:52Speaker 1: and I hope it's positive, hope it's the right thing,
- 8:56Speaker 1: then can't nobody... dismantle something they don't know about at
- 8:59Speaker 1: all and if you build your foundation on a rock
- 9:01Speaker 1: for real can't nobody tear it down so I always
- 9:04Speaker 1: knew that I was you know whatever it was was
- 9:06Speaker 1: some things to take care I was always on it
- 9:09Speaker 1: on my own because I'm like I ain't gonna tell
- 9:11Speaker 1: on myself and when I learned to do better and
- 9:13Speaker 1: know better and when it was some things to really
- 9:15Speaker 1: handle to do business I was like let me just
- 9:17Speaker 1: figure it out on my own from being my own
- 9:18Speaker 1: manager my own writer my own producer my own you
- 9:21Speaker 1: know marketer marketing manager anything it was just like so
- 9:26Speaker 1: I look at the situation I just wish I wish
- 9:29Speaker 1: discernment was more there. You feel me? I wish there
- 9:32Speaker 1: was more discernment there. That's important.
- 9:34Speaker 2: That word is a real word.
- 9:36Speaker 1: It's a real word.
- 9:36Speaker 2: And I encourage everybody to look up to the definition
- 9:40Speaker 2: of discernment.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Yeah, man.
- 9:42Speaker 2: It's a lot deeper than just saying it.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Yeah. Look that up.
- 9:45Speaker 5: Please.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Awareness. You got to be self-aware, spiritually, cosmically aware. And
- 9:50Speaker 1: I think we should understand that. And this, look, I'm not. Bro,
- 9:54Speaker 1: I'm not. Ultimate fuck up. I done made a lot
- 9:57Speaker 1: of mistakes. I ain't going to sit here and try
- 9:58Speaker 1: to act like I'm holding out. ain't got enough time
- 10:01Speaker 1: to talk about it. I can't throw no stone through
- 10:02Speaker 1: this glass.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I feel like your testimony right now, you talking about
- 10:05Speaker 2: it right now, can save whoever could.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Be watching this.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I hope so.
- 10:08Speaker 5: And you talking to a lot of people right now.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Hey, man, salute to everybody listening. I hope y'all hear
- 10:13Speaker 1: out from a person that I'm not a nice guy.
- 10:15Speaker 1: But I'm a good dude. I try to be better.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Wait, you just said I'm not a nice guy?
- 10:19Speaker 1: I'm not a nice guy. I think people confuse when
- 10:21Speaker 1: you learn and you grow and you have self-love. They
- 10:23Speaker 1: confuse that with being nice. But it's like, nah, I'm
- 10:27Speaker 1: not a nice guy. I got thorns. I got teeth.
- 10:28Speaker 1: I have dirt. I have mistakes that I've made. But
- 10:31Speaker 1: I know that I woke up today, right? So I
- 10:35Speaker 1: had to be a better version of myself today than
- 10:36Speaker 1: I was yesterday. And I strive for that every day.
- 10:38Speaker 1: And it's not an excuse to keep doing the same thing.
- 10:40Speaker 1: You just got to grow. So I just... I think
- 10:45Speaker 1: the sermon is like when you really connect with the
- 10:47Speaker 1: most high and you really are honest with yourself and
- 10:49Speaker 1: you really pray about. And I speak this a lot
- 10:51Speaker 1: because the stuff I come from, like only God, it
- 10:54Speaker 1: had to be God. It wasn't me. It was me
- 10:56Speaker 1: that put me in it. It was God that got
- 10:57Speaker 1: me out. So I think that you got to really
- 11:01Speaker 1: open your mind and your pineal gland, your mind for real,
- 11:06Speaker 1: opening all your chakras up and everything. And that's a
- 11:08Speaker 1: whole deeper conversation to be aware of this stuff. And
- 11:10Speaker 1: it's how we eat, what we read, what we consume.
- 11:13Speaker 2: What we eat.
- 11:13Speaker 5: What we eat.
- 11:15Speaker 1: I'm vegan. I do dabble with a little Branzino here
- 11:20Speaker 1: and there, but I try to stay away from fish.
- 11:22Speaker 5: That Branzino go crazy.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Man. That Branzino go crazy. Boy, I see that, I'll
- 11:29Speaker 1: be like, I'm going to get up out of here.
- 11:32Speaker 1: I ain't strong enough sometimes, but I try. And I
- 11:36Speaker 1: just think all of that really controls how we think
- 11:38Speaker 1: and what we do and what we consume from social
- 11:41Speaker 1: media to music, the whole demo. Feel me?
- 11:44Speaker 2: Where'd your name come from?
- 11:45Speaker 1: Vast City, you know, the story I heard from my aunt,
- 11:47Speaker 1: my grandma, she rest in peace, and my aunties, they
- 11:49Speaker 1: said my first words was Shad City. I don't know
- 11:52Speaker 1: why those would be my first words, but the Vallejo
- 11:55Speaker 1: is my gov name, and Valle is short for that.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Vast City.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Vast City. Shad City, Vast City, because, you know, if
- 12:04Speaker 1: Dirk and all of them is the voice, I'm the
- 12:06Speaker 1: hope of the city, and of anybody, because I come
- 12:08Speaker 1: from the worst scenario and the most adverse and made
- 12:11Speaker 1: so many mistakes to put myself back, and I still
- 12:13Speaker 1: kept moving, so If you think there is not a guy,
- 12:16Speaker 1: look at me, and I'm telling you, it is one.
- 12:18Speaker 1: If I'm here, he exists.
- 12:20Speaker 5: Now, who would be your Chicago Rush?
- 12:25Speaker 2: Mount Rushmore.
- 12:26Speaker 5: Yeah, Mount Rushmore.
- 12:27Speaker 2: It's only four people.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Man, that's hard to say. So many dope-ass cold cats
- 12:32Speaker 1: out the crib, bro.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Man.
- 12:39Speaker 1: You got to put Ye up there.
- 12:40Speaker 5: For sure.
- 12:40Speaker 1: You got to put Ye up there. If you don't
- 12:42Speaker 1: put Ye up there, you a super hater because he's
- 12:44Speaker 1: a dude just call your code talent, and I think
- 12:48Speaker 1: he a genius, you know.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Man.
- 12:55Speaker 1: When you talk about impact and movement, you got to put,
- 13:01Speaker 1: I think, Chief Keefe up there. Two more. And Keefe,
- 13:05Speaker 1: I think Dirk, they will fill that spot here and there. Um, Common. Okay. Common.
- 13:11Speaker 1: You can't forget about the big homie, the OG Common. Woo. Man,
- 13:19Speaker 1: it's tough.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Go ahead and put Vice City up there.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I got to get an honorable mention.
- 13:22Speaker 5: You know what?
- 13:22Speaker 2: Go ahead and put Vice City up there.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I can't put, I think the people should tell you
- 13:26Speaker 1: about you instead of you. I mean, I think I'm
- 13:29Speaker 1: one of the colors. But people got to say. Common.
- 13:33Speaker 1: One more. Um, I need an honorable mention too, though.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Okay.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I think honorable mention.
- 13:39Speaker 5: Obama?
- 13:40Speaker 2: Niggas, we talking about rappers, fam.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Chicago, Obama. He tip to the top. Pause. But rap,
- 13:49Speaker 1: I say Twista, bro. You got to say Twista.
- 13:51Speaker 5: Damn. I forgot about that.
- 13:52Speaker 1: He from Chicago. But it's so many honorable mentions, from Psycho, Crucial, to,
- 13:58Speaker 1: and I'm going to name people people ain't never heard about.
- 14:00Speaker 1: I like, bro, I did a record, bro, you my guy, too.
- 14:03Speaker 1: He's one of the guys, GLC.
- 14:04Speaker 5: Okay.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I don't know if he was on Drive Slow. Just
- 14:08Speaker 1: go back and listen to that. You feel me? I
- 14:12Speaker 1: think that's my full plus honorable mention.
- 14:15Speaker 2: I know you're dropping music. What do we have out
- 14:17Speaker 2: right now?
- 14:18Speaker 1: Right now, I just shot a couple visuals for So
- 14:21Speaker 1: Now What at the Hotels and Heartbreaks. So Now What out.
- 14:27Speaker 1: I'm doing a show. A scripted reality show. We're shooting
- 14:30Speaker 1: on the Ari... The Ari... Alexa, what is it, I
- 14:37Speaker 1: forget which one it is, the movie camera. I got

- 15:01Speaker 5: I was gonna say, you out here working.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Man, you know, this shit therapy for me. If you
- 15:07Speaker 1: go through so much stuff, the creativity be how I
- 15:08Speaker 1: keep myself centered. So it's like I try to put
- 15:10Speaker 1: as much, you know, authenticity into it and creativity to it. So, yeah,

- 15:54Speaker 1: My mind is always thinking about so much stuff I
- 15:58Speaker 1: could really keep doing, and that's how I keep myself
- 16:01Speaker 1: focused by just, like, you know, we made by the
- 16:03Speaker 1: supreme creator. And I think the closest that we can
- 16:07Speaker 1: get to the most high is creating. You feel me? And, like,
- 16:11Speaker 1: I think the more you create, and whatever that is,
- 16:14Speaker 1: you know, I think the more you create, and I
- 16:18Speaker 1: encourage anybody to have an idea, put the work in,
- 16:21Speaker 1: build it from idea to, you know, from concept to
- 16:25Speaker 1: actual matter, and it's a different feeling. It's a different feeling.
