- 0:01Genesis chapter 49, let us pray. We thank you, God, for today.
- 0:07And we thank you, Lord, for waking us up and putting us on
- 0:10our feet. We thank you that you've given
- 0:13us life. God, You've given us a family.
- 0:17We thank you, God, for sustenance.
- 0:20Thank you for clean drinking water.
- 0:23God, we ask that you'll raise up righteous leaders unto yourself.
- 0:28God, we pray that we'll be the answer.
- 0:30God, the church will be the answer.
- 0:33We'll stand in the gap for the widows and the orphans.
- 0:36God, I pray that we'll be men and women of faith who actually
- 0:40are in tune with you. And we listen for that still
- 0:43small voice. God, help us to obey that still
- 0:46small voice when you do speak. We thank you for all your words
- 0:51that you've given us. They speak a better word over
- 0:55all of the rhetoric that we have all around us, Father.
- 1:00Lord, We pay attention closely to every syllable, every jot,
- 1:05and every title. It is law unto us, God.
- 1:09It is life unto us, God. It is our lifeline, Father.
- 1:14So we hold it tightly. We memorize it, God.
- 1:20Well, we hide it in our hearts so that we might not sin against
- 1:23you. We only want you, Father.
- 1:27We only desire you. God be with us everywhere that
- 1:31we go. Help us not to ask you to cosign
- 1:34on our mess, but God, to actually do the things that
- 1:38you've asked us to do, whether it is hard or whether it is an
- 1:44easy Yes. God, I pray that we'll actually
- 1:46do what it is that you are leading us into, that we will
- 1:51not tune you out, that we will not sear our consciences, but
- 1:55God will actually be a people who are called by your name, who
- 1:59actually do the things that you've asked us to do.
- 2:03God, let us not just love you in Word, but help us to love you in
- 2:09deed. We love you, God.
- 2:11We love everything about you. Come and have your way, Father,
- 2:15teach us you paths. Lord, we get out of our own way.
- 2:18We give you center stage. I decrease as you increase.
- 2:22Maranatha, come, Lord, come. We fill up our lamps, We trim
- 2:27our Wicks. It's all about King Jesus.
- 2:30We love you. King Jesus, help us.
- 2:33Lord God Almighty, help us. And it's in your powerful and
- 2:37precious name that I pray. Amen.
- 2:43Well, let's start in verse one. And Jacob called unto his sons
- 2:49and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you
- 2:57what shall befall you in the last days.
- 3:00So here Jacob's going to bestow upon his twelve sons their last
- 3:11will and testament that he needs to give to them.
- 3:16He needs to tell them what is going to happen to them as the
- 3:20years go by. And many of the things that he's
- 3:23about to say are still yet are there still future.
- 3:29There are things that he's going to talk about that are going to
- 3:32point us to the immediate time that he was in, to the time of
- 3:38Christ. And then there are things that
- 3:39he's going to say that point to future times, friends.
- 3:45And so you need to lock in and pay attention, to gather
- 3:49yourselves together and hear you, sons of Jacob, listen unto
- 3:54Israel, your father. So here he's vacillating between
- 3:58these two characters. Sometimes he is like Jacob and
- 4:02sometimes he's like Israel. And these prophecies are going
- 4:06to reveal this manifold character of this patriarch, how
- 4:13he vacillated between the two. And we need to know that at
- 4:17times he is prophesying to them things of Jacob, and at others
- 4:23he's prophesying to them things of Israel.
- 4:28Let's see how it goes. 3 Reuben, you're my first born.
- 4:33My might in the beginning of my strength, the Excellency of
- 4:38dignity, the Excellency of power.
- 4:41So here Reuben was supposed to get the birthright, he's
- 4:44supposed to get the double portion.
- 4:46But he disqualified himself by laying with his father's
- 4:50concubine and by slaying and splaying out all of the men of
- 4:55Shechem whenever they defiled his sister Dinah.
- 4:59For unstable as water you shall not excel, because you went up
- 5:05to your father's bed and defiled it you.
- 5:09He went up to my couch, saying, You took my concubine for
- 5:15yourself as deplorable and despicable. 5 Simeon Levi, our
- 5:22brothers instruments of cruelty are in their habitations.
- 5:26So this was actually the two the pair that went into Shechem and
- 5:32tricked all the men there to give up their foreskin so that
- 5:39they would be able to intermarry in with the family here of the
- 5:44promise. And they actually were duped and
- 5:48tricked, and they actually got deceived by Simeon and Levi, and
- 5:54we're going to see him pronounce this judgment upon them.
- 5:57And it's going to be split down the middle. 6 O my soul, come
- 6:05not you into their secret unto their assembly, my honor, be not
- 6:10united. For in their anger they slew a
- 6:13man, and in their self will they dug down a wall, they hamstrung
- 6:20the ox. And here he is going to
- 6:23pronounce this division, where Levi actually gets put back in
- 6:31to favor whenever he becomes the priesthood.
- 6:35But you see that Simeon is left out. 7 Cursed be your anger, for
- 6:41it was fierce, and their wrath for it was cruel.
- 6:45I will divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel.
- 6:48So this dividing and scattering here means that one will be
- 6:54dishonored while the other one becomes honored and becomes a
- 7:03massive line of the Levitical priesthood that we're going to
- 7:07see in the temple. Hey, Judah, you are he whom your
- 7:14brother shall praise. Your hand shall be in the neck
- 7:17of your enemies. Your father's children shall bow
- 7:20down before you. Here he's talking about our
- 7:22Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ. And even in Judah's failures, it
- 7:29did not disqualify the Messiah from coming out of his loins.
- 7:35And this is the prophecy that Jacob is talking about, and it's
- 7:39all all connected towards the Messiah coming out of his
- 7:43genealogy. 9 Judah is a lion's well from the prey, my son, you
- 7:51are gone up. He stooped down.
- 7:52He couched as a lion, and as an old lion.
- 7:55Who shall rouse him up? Jesus, Jesus and Jesus all over
- 7:59it. You look at how the hands shall
- 8:01be on the neck of the enemies. We know that Jesus is going to
- 8:06crush the head of the serpent. Look at how he's the lion of
- 8:10Judah. 10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor Allah
- 8:17give her from between his feet, until Shiloh come, and unto him
- 8:22shall the gathering of the people be.
- 8:25So we see that the power stayed within Israel all the way up
- 8:29until Jesus Christ arrived on the scene, and He upended all of
- 8:35this prophecy where the scepter would not depart from them until
- 8:40Shiloh. And Jesus is Shiloh, He is the
- 8:44Messiah. 11 Binding is full unto the vine, and his ass is colt
- 8:53unto the choice vine. He washed his garments and wine
- 8:57and his clothes in the blood of grapes.
- 8:59So we know that Jesus treads in the winepress, friends, in his
- 9:03robe is drenched in the blood, friends, as he wrought our
- 9:08salvation for us. And the land of Judah was a
- 9:13wonderful place of vintage, where it was the production of
- 9:19wine. 12 His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white
- 9:24with milk. So we know that Jesus Christ is
- 9:26coming back full of power, with eyes like fire and hair like
- 9:31wool. 13 Zebulun shall dwell at the haven of the sea, and he
- 9:37shall be for a haven of ships, and his border shall be unto
- 9:41Zeidom. So here we know that Zebulun
- 9:45went down whenever they were going, and they were dividing
- 9:49the land. Zebulun wound up as a coast. 14
- 9:53Issachars, a strong ass, crouching down between two
- 9:56burdens. So we're going to see this
- 9:59little prophecy about what happens to Issachar. 15 And he
- 10:03saw that rest was good, and the land that it was pleasant, and
- 10:08he bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a servant unto
- 10:12tribute. So here he was a strong and
- 10:16mighty nation, but because he chose to not stay in the fight
- 10:25and he started to get lazy and LAX up, he became a servant.
- 10:30We'll see that as scripture unfolds. 16 Dan shall judge his
- 10:36people as one of the tribes of Israel.
- 10:39So here we're going to get into an interesting debate about Old
- 10:43Dan, and the debate is whether the Antichrist will come from
- 10:50the tribe of Dan, which is why they're not mentioned in one of
- 10:56the roll calls. But then he gets put back in in
- 10:59Ezekiel, Millennial temple roll call.
- 11:02And you're going to see here that perhaps the Antichrist
- 11:07won't be a Gentile. He very well could be a Jew and
- 11:12that is why the Jews receive him.
- 11:15What an interesting thought and we can get off on 1000 different
- 11:18tangents, but suffice to say it is never in our interest to
- 11:23become anti-Semitic towards God's chosen people. 17 Dan
- 11:30shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path that bites
- 11:34the horse's heels, so that his riders shall fall backwards.
- 11:39Very interesting, friends 18 I have waited for your salvation,
- 11:43O Lord. So here we see that Jacob is
- 11:49looking into the future, prophetically speaking, all of
- 11:53these things, and it's as if he catches a glimpse of the end
- 11:57times and he is saying to Jesus Christ, Lord, I've waited for
- 12:03you, I want you. And this is where he is calling
- 12:08out to his God, the God of Israel, the God of our Messiah.
- 12:1919 God, a troop shall overcome him, but he shall overcome at
- 12:24the last. So here God just gets 1 little
- 12:27line and it's going to be indicative of what we read as we
- 12:33go through scripture. We'll see how God will overcome
- 12:38at the last. 20 out of Asher. His bread shall be fat, and he
- 12:43shall yield royal dainties. So in the land of Asher they
- 12:47were able not only to produce enough to be sustained, but they
- 12:53had enough leftover where they had the delicacies as well. 21
- 13:02Nephtali is a hind let loose. He gives good words.
- 13:07So this was the region that Jesus did all of his ministry
- 13:11in. And you can see that Jacob here,
- 13:14he was able to foresee that it would be in the land of Neftali
- 13:22that Jesus Christ would predominantly be centered in
- 13:26with all of the words that are good and God is good and good is
- 13:31God and there is nothing good outside of God.
- 13:35And all of the words that Jesus spoke and all the words that we
- 13:40hold in our hands are immortal, friends.
- 13:42They'll never pass away. 22 Joseph is a fruitful bow, even a
- 13:51fruitful bow by a well whose branches run over the wall.
- 13:55So here he's going to flow right into Joseph and give this
- 14:01discourse of how God sees Joseph in the lineage.
- 14:07We already know that Jacob has blessed Manasseh and Ephraim, so
- 14:14it is as if Joseph is split down the middle, and the two are
- 14:18actually one. But here is even a double
- 14:22portion unto Joseph. 2423 The Archers have sorely grieved him,
- 14:33and shot at him, and hated him. 24 But his bow abode in
- 14:38strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the
- 14:42hands of the mighty God of Jacob.
- 14:45From there is the shepherd, the stone of Israel.
- 14:48So you can see how Jacob is acknowledging God with all of
- 14:52his names, with all of the wonderful things that he's
- 14:57attributed to God. He is the stone of Israel.
- 15:01He is the shepherd, He's the mighty God.
- 15:04And you can see here that God actually helped Joseph in the
- 15:10battle. It was as if God's hands were on
- 15:14his hands every time that he let the arrow fly. 25 Even by the
- 15:20God of your father who shall help you, and by the Almighty
- 15:24who shall bless you with blessings of heaven above,
- 15:28blessings of the deep that lie under, blessings of the breast
- 15:32and of the womb. So here it's blessings upon
- 15:35blessings upon blessings for Joseph, who saved them from all
- 15:41of the starvation. 26 The blessings of your father have
- 15:46prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost
- 15:52bound of the everlasting hills. They shall be on the head of
- 15:56Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate
- 15:59from his brothers. So you can see that Joseph is
- 16:04treated as if he's the first born. 27 Benjamin shall rave as
- 16:10a wolf. In the morning he shall devour
- 16:12the prey, and at night he shall divide the spoil.
- 16:16So we see that Saul came out of Benjamin.
- 16:21We know that Paul came out of Benjamin.
- 16:24We see how Benjamin was a powerhouse when it came to the
- 16:29leadership in the land. 28 All these are the 12 tribes of
- 16:34Israel, and this is that their father spoke to them and blessed
- 16:39them everyone according to his blessing, He blessed them. 29
- 16:44And he charged them, and said unto them, I am to be gathered
- 16:48unto my people, Bury me with my father's in The Cave that is in
- 16:53the field of Ephraim the Hittite. 30 In The Cave that is
- 16:57in the field of Makbila, which is before Mamre, in the land of
- 17:01Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the
- 17:04Hittite, for a possession of a bearing place.
- 17:08And it still exists today, The Cave of the patriarchs.
- 17:12Friends, we know that the Bible is true and trustworthy.
- 17:16We know that we can build our entire lives upon it, friends,
- 17:19and we'll never be put to shame. And you see it time and time and
- 17:23time and time again, that the Bible is our guiding star is
- 17:29going to take us home. 31 There they buried Abraham and Sarah
- 17:35his wife. There they buried Isaac and
- 17:37Rebecca his wife. And there I buried Leah. 32 The
- 17:42purchase of the field and of The Cave that is in it was from the
- 17:45children of Heath. We'll end on. 33 And when Jacob
- 17:49had made the end of his commanding his sons, he gathered
- 17:52up his feet into the bed, yielded up the ghost, and was
- 17:55gathered to his people. Look at that, friends.
- 17:59He got done blessing them. It took everything out of him.
- 18:03He made his last will and testament and gathered his feet
- 18:07up in the bed and yielded up the ghost.
- 18:10We do not need to fear death, friends.
- 18:15The only thing that even matters in the end is have you given
- 18:20your life over to the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 18:23Truly, it's all that matters and if you have, then you can die in
- 18:29peace and you do not need to fear death.
- 18:34I hope you've been blessed by this amazing chapter in God's
- 18:37Word. I know I sure have.
- 18:39I'm praying for every single one of you.
- 18:41I love you. We'll see you back here
- 18:43tomorrow. God bless you.
