- 0:08Speaker 1: Well, well, well, in the words of John bon Jovi,
- 0:11Speaker 1: we're halfway there. Women on a prayer. The season is
- 0:15Speaker 1: seven rounds down. Each team has played each other team,
- 0:19Speaker 1: and now we're at the top of the mountain and
- 0:20Speaker 1: we slide down or do we go controlled stagger?
- 0:24Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 0:25Speaker 1: Okay, but it should be it should actually be the
- 0:28Speaker 1: Apex is the grand finalist, and so maybe we're at
- 0:30Speaker 1: the maybe we're walking through the valley of netball death
- 0:34Speaker 1: at the moment and we come out the other side. Anyway,
- 0:36Speaker 1: we're seven rounds in. You're on No Dribble strap In. Hello,
- 0:52Speaker 1: and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where we talk
- 0:54Speaker 1: about netball and we talk about so much more nonsense.
- 0:57Speaker 1: My name is Carolyn Swindell.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Irom kath Cox, I lose Allie.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Hello, Hi everyone.
- 1:04Speaker 1: It's a beautiful autumnal and Zach weekend in Sydney.
- 1:08Speaker 2: It is stunning so weather nice up there, Elizabeth.
- 1:11Speaker 3: No, it's done nothing but poor with rain most of
- 1:15Speaker 3: the week. Yeah, so I have to get to Sydney
- 1:18Speaker 3: this afternoon, so I'll get my little canoe out later,
- 1:20Speaker 3: I think. And you said down it's been so wet. Yeah,
- 1:25Speaker 3: it's been so we had a beautiful run of days
- 1:27Speaker 3: and it's been really wet, so AnyWho, we're not here
- 1:30Speaker 3: to talk about the weather.
- 1:31Speaker 2: No we're not, but you're coming to Sydney. So have
- 1:33Speaker 2: you made time on your very very very busy schedule
- 1:35Speaker 2: for us?
- 1:36Speaker 1: Nah, If you're still here on Thursday, you can come
- 1:43Speaker 1: to the movies with me at CAF because we've made
- 1:45Speaker 1: a little sneaky mid week middle of the day playdate
- 1:50Speaker 1: to go and see The Devil Wears prior to Oh.
- 1:52Speaker 3: That's a bit exciting, you know, I'll be I'm actually
- 1:57Speaker 3: recording a podcast from Mum and mea this week, fun
- 2:00Speaker 3: cheating on It and Woolworths. Yes, I know I am
- 2:03Speaker 3: cheating on you, but taken O'shannesty will be one of
- 2:06Speaker 3: the guests. I don't know if I can say that actually,
- 2:07Speaker 3: but there's a little sneak pee.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Well that's exciting. I'm going to guess there's something about
- 2:13Speaker 1: nutrition coming up.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I think you're right. I can't say anymore.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Oh, well, that's very exciting. But I would like to
- 2:20Speaker 1: know Liz, and this is a question that I've given
- 2:23Speaker 1: you both. What's the best thing that's happened to you
- 2:25Speaker 1: in the past week or the best thing that you've seen.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Let's start with something positive.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I'll give you something well, I don't know it's positive.
- 2:31Speaker 3: I had fun. So I went to a birthday party
- 2:33Speaker 3: slash an Zac Day party on Saturday, and the person
- 2:37Speaker 3: who held it he loves a game of two up,
- 2:39Speaker 3: so he had a two up ring setup, and well,
- 2:43Speaker 3: my mum got to do the first I don't know
- 2:45Speaker 3: two up and has never done it before. So she's
- 2:48Speaker 3: nearly eighty five and they had her first game of
- 2:50Speaker 3: two up. I had my first game of two up.
- 2:52Speaker 3: I took fifteen bucks, and once I'd lost it, I'd
- 2:54Speaker 3: lost it. It was gone, so I wanted tell everybody else
- 2:56Speaker 3: do it. I loaned my son five bucks and he
- 2:59Speaker 3: played ended up with twenty and I was like, what
- 3:01Speaker 3: am I talking about? Maybe I should. I started to
- 3:05Speaker 3: have a conversation with him about probability, right than gambling.
- 3:08Speaker 3: So yeah, it was so fun. It was just it
- 3:11Speaker 3: was just good, clean fun. On a Saturday afternoon.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I saw Madge throwing it up, having a little go there.
- 3:16Speaker 3: It looked good fun barbecue barbecue.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Who doesn't love a barbecue?
- 3:21Speaker 3: I mean it was great actually, And I went to
- 3:24Speaker 3: the Anzac day March in Ballino, and it was so
- 3:29Speaker 3: I just I must be getting old. I just cried
- 3:32Speaker 3: the whole time. Yeah, still there and cried, what did
- 3:34Speaker 3: the veterans go past? Give them a round them applause.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Just cried.
- 3:37Speaker 2: I cried a little bit of the very first bugle
- 3:40Speaker 2: I heard you.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Oh yeah, gone, yeah. Have you ever been to service
- 3:44Speaker 1: at the War Memorial in Canberra? No, No, it is machine.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I highly recommend everyone tries to do it at least once.
- 3:52Speaker 1: It's just it's so beautiful, it's so moving, and it's
- 3:57Speaker 1: just extraordinary and and this this happens it in dawn service,
- 4:00Speaker 1: particularly the bigger ones, that the silence, and then as
- 4:03Speaker 1: the sun comes up, you look around and you go like,
- 4:06Speaker 1: I could be in a stadium full of people here,
- 4:08Speaker 1: that's how many people are here, and everyone's being silent,
- 4:11Speaker 1: Like it's just I love it. It's something that's just
- 4:14Speaker 1: so solemn and respectful and special.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Yeah. Absolutely, So it was the last day.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Well, on Anzac Day, I went out to the Swift's
- 4:24Speaker 1: Giants match and we spent quite a bit of time
- 4:27Speaker 1: in the car because we had to go home to
- 4:30Speaker 1: get the tickets. Because we got all the way to
- 4:33Speaker 1: Sydney Olympic Park before I realized I don't have the tickets,
- 4:37Speaker 1: and yes I am a luddite. I should work out
- 4:40Speaker 1: how to have them on my phone.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Yeah, not have them.
- 4:43Speaker 1: On your phone, because they send me a lanyard with
- 4:46Speaker 1: a card on it. It's got my name on.
- 4:48Speaker 2: It, Like, so your lanyard's your ticket.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Yeah, well the lanyard has the membership ticket hanging off,
- 4:55Speaker 1: so so you know, And I've always been aware, of
- 4:57Speaker 1: course you can get this thing sorted out. But we
- 4:59Speaker 1: got there. It was the third most annoying part of
- 5:02Speaker 1: the journey that it could have happened in So it
- 5:04Speaker 1: would have been more annoying if we were in the
- 5:06Speaker 1: car park and then had to pay to get out,
- 5:07Speaker 1: And it would have been even more annoying if we'd
- 5:09Speaker 1: been in the car park and then walked to the
- 5:11Speaker 1: stadium and then had to go back and get it.
- 5:13Speaker 1: But I thought, there's a ninety plus percent chance that
- 5:17Speaker 1: I can go to the ticket box and get them
- 5:19Speaker 1: to fix these. But if I wait five minutes in
- 5:22Speaker 1: line for them to see me, and then there's five
- 5:24Speaker 1: minutes of something and then they can't help me out,
- 5:27Speaker 1: then I cannot make it in time, but we're in
- 5:29Speaker 1: the car. If we turn around now go home and
- 5:32Speaker 1: get it, then we're definitely back here. And I sat
- 5:34Speaker 1: down just at the first center pass. It was brilliant,
- 5:37Speaker 1: but it meant we had quite a lot of time
- 5:39Speaker 1: in the car with the kids, and we're talking about
- 5:42Speaker 1: something and Dot was talking about the Wizard of Oz
- 5:46Speaker 1: and Wicked, and she started talking about the mun chickens
- 5:51Speaker 1: and we were what just say that again? The mun chickens,
- 5:55Speaker 1: and she said, you know, the little people on the brad,
- 6:00Speaker 1: the much chickens. And it's like she never heard the
- 6:03Speaker 1: word munchkins before, so it's only just through watching Wicked,
- 6:07Speaker 1: and she.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Thought it was all these years later.
- 6:11Speaker 1: So now.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Other munchickens related to the bin chickens.
- 6:16Speaker 2: They sound like.
- 6:19Speaker 1: It's we will be referring to the munchkins forever as
- 6:23Speaker 1: the munchif that is brilliant?
- 6:26Speaker 2: How long before you stop laughing?
- 6:29Speaker 1: And I did get her permission to talk about it today.
- 6:33Speaker 2: You're such a good mum. I never asked the kids
- 6:36Speaker 2: permission because she never let me. And then were fun
- 6:38Speaker 2: in that.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Well.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Mine was the same day as yours, and it was twofold.
- 6:43Speaker 2: It was firstly seeing the photo of you having to
- 6:45Speaker 2: turn around a gun. But it was actually the ceremony
- 6:50Speaker 2: that they did for the Sydney Derby, the ANZAC ceremony.
- 6:54Speaker 2: It was all female, the whole thing, so it was
- 6:58Speaker 2: the women veterans Australia. Of course the Swifts had made
- 7:01Speaker 2: sure that they had done that deliberately, obviously to celebrate
- 7:04Speaker 2: women and celebrate you know, the sport and everybody involved
- 7:07Speaker 2: and all that. And it was unreal just to see
- 7:10Speaker 2: them all out on the court firstly, and then once
- 7:13Speaker 2: I said as a bugle started, I was gone.
- 7:16Speaker 1: How long did it take you to collect yourself before
- 7:18Speaker 1: you had to start commentary? No?
- 7:20Speaker 2: I look around and I distract myself with other things
- 7:22Speaker 2: to get the focus back in. What do you meant
- 7:24Speaker 2: to do? Clench you?
- 7:25Speaker 1: But les Butt, do you have to provide any commentary
- 7:28Speaker 1: when something like that's going on?
- 7:29Speaker 2: No?
- 7:30Speaker 1: Is it just zip it?
- 7:31Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 7:31Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 7:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:32Speaker 1: So I did see on the Facebook because of course
- 7:35Speaker 1: they missed that because I was in the car as
- 7:37Speaker 1: earlier mentioned incompetence. But I did see on the Facebook
- 7:41Speaker 1: a number of people saying, oh, why wasn't there a
- 7:44Speaker 1: New Zealand flag or the New Zealand National anthem at
- 7:46Speaker 1: that and there's a lot of discussion because it's different games,
- 7:49Speaker 1: they had different things, and so I thought, well, that's interesting.
- 7:51Speaker 1: How do they determine what happens in these Anzac Day
- 7:55Speaker 1: remembrance Sarah mate? So there is no So I've looked
- 7:58Speaker 1: at the protocol from the Australia government and from the
- 8:00Speaker 1: New Zealand government. And you know, I love singing the
- 8:02Speaker 1: New Zealand national anthem, so I would love to have
- 8:04Speaker 1: had a chance, but I would have missed it anyway.
- 8:06Speaker 1: But there is no requirement to play any national anthem
- 8:10Speaker 1: at an Anzac Day commemoration service that's not part of
- 8:13Speaker 1: the official ceremony. There is if you then if you
- 8:16Speaker 1: choose to incorporate an Australian national anthem, there are protocols
- 8:21Speaker 1: around how you do that if you are also playing
- 8:23Speaker 1: the national anthem of any other country. So if they
- 8:26Speaker 1: were playing New Zealand, they played the New Zealand one
- 8:28Speaker 1: first and then the Australian one, but there's no requirement
- 8:31Speaker 1: to play it. So and in both instances in Australia
- 8:35Speaker 1: and New Zealand. I've looked at the Ministry of Culture
- 8:37Speaker 1: and Heritage out of New Zealand that the Anzac Day
- 8:40Speaker 1: celebration is to commemorate that the soldiers the service personnel
- 8:46Speaker 1: from that country who have been killed in war. So
- 8:48Speaker 1: in New Zealand it's to remember all New Zealand is
- 8:50Speaker 1: killed in war and honor our return service personnel. So
- 8:54Speaker 1: Anzac Day in New Zealand is not about commemorating Australians,
- 8:56Speaker 1: and Anzac Day and Australia is not about commemorating New Zealanders.
- 9:00Speaker 1: It started with Gallipoli and then and with the ends
- 9:04Speaker 1: at Call, but it is now about acknowledging all war
- 9:09Speaker 1: dead and service from service personnel. So in that instance
- 9:14Speaker 1: it gets a little bit technical and I'm nearly finished.
- 9:16Speaker 1: But what happens then is it's a case by case
- 9:18Speaker 1: determination as to who was actually there. So if, for instance,
- 9:22Speaker 1: in that ceremony at the Swift's Giants game, they had
- 9:25Speaker 1: New Zealand service personnel there, then they would incorporate New
- 9:29Speaker 1: Zealand into that which they didn't, which they didn't. But
- 9:32Speaker 1: at some other games you will see then if there
- 9:35Speaker 1: is someone there. So at the Firebirds game, that wasn't
- 9:38Speaker 1: about acknowledging the netballers who were from New Zealand. That
- 9:40Speaker 1: was about acknowledging Kitty Will's father who was a prisoner
- 9:45Speaker 1: of war. So that's that's it's very technical. Horses pro college, Yeah,
- 9:50Speaker 1: horses for courses is absolutely right. So but I just yeah,
- 9:54Speaker 1: I thought I thought it was interesting, and obviously we
- 9:56Speaker 1: have an extremely close association with New zealand And. But
- 10:01Speaker 1: there is protocol that governs these things, and it's not
- 10:03Speaker 1: just a kind of easy, one size fits all. Every
- 10:07Speaker 1: little acknowledgment has to have a particular decision tree that
- 10:12Speaker 1: they go through in order to decide what gets said
- 10:15Speaker 1: and what gets shown and the like. And flags should
- 10:19Speaker 1: be at half masked or sorry, flags are required to
- 10:22Speaker 1: be at half mast only until midday. So if you're
- 10:24Speaker 1: at a game of footy or netball or whatever and
- 10:26Speaker 1: it's after midday and the flag is not at half
- 10:28Speaker 1: mask that is not a contrary to protocol.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Right there you go, we are all a little bit
- 10:36Speaker 2: more educated.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I'm glad.
- 10:38Speaker 3: I feel a little bit smarter after thank you for
- 10:40Speaker 3: going away and doing the research.
- 10:41Speaker 1: It's going to sit in silence for the rest of
- 10:43Speaker 1: the show.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, no, it's important to lot, but it is.
- 10:46Speaker 3: And can I just say how great it is through
- 10:49Speaker 3: all of the netball games to see service women acknowledged
- 10:52Speaker 3: and celerated. It just I think netball has such a
- 10:55Speaker 3: unique ability to do that. On Anzac days, it was
- 11:00Speaker 3: really nice to see lots and lots of service women
- 11:03Speaker 3: involved and acknowledged.
- 11:05Speaker 1: So world on netball absolutely absolutely.
- 11:08Speaker 3: There you go, there you go.
- 11:09Speaker 1: So we all had our best thing of the week
- 11:11Speaker 1: was on Antac Day. That's not exact day, and that's
- 11:14Speaker 1: not even the public holiday. That's the Yeah. But Liz,
- 11:18Speaker 1: there was something you saw in the Facebook group that
- 11:20Speaker 1: you wanted to talk about that's extremely relevant to netball.
- 11:24Speaker 3: I did right. There was an interesting post, Well it's
- 11:27Speaker 3: not camping, Catherine, or so you know.
- 11:30Speaker 1: You could do it while you were camping.
- 11:33Speaker 3: You could actually, that's what she said, while you were camping.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Unlukely for me because this is not anywhere remotely connected
- 11:42Speaker 3: to my skill set or interest. But I did see
- 11:45Speaker 3: a lovely thread about people knitting, and it started off
- 11:48Speaker 3: knitting at the netball and then ended up being knitting
- 11:51Speaker 3: at all different sports, and there were some really great photos.
- 11:54Speaker 3: I actually just followed the rabbit hole and I was
- 11:56Speaker 3: looking at everyone's photos of people knitting at different sporting events,
- 11:59Speaker 3: from the SUPERCS to the a f L cricket to.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Skip a pearl or two? Is that what it's called
- 12:06Speaker 2: when when you get it?
- 12:08Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 12:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I think the pearl is a type
- 12:13Speaker 1: it like, because there's knit one pearl too. Yeah, I
- 12:15Speaker 1: think it's.
- 12:18Speaker 3: I don't know what, I don't know, but I remember
- 12:20Speaker 3: Killie Dey took up knitting during a National's campaign once.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Do you remember that, Catherine? She was she was turning
- 12:26Speaker 3: up and she was in on on. This was obviously
- 12:31Speaker 3: well no, not quite, but she like anytime we would
- 12:34Speaker 3: on the on the plane, she would have a knitting
- 12:36Speaker 3: needles out. I don't think you can take knitting needles
- 12:38Speaker 3: on the plane now.
- 12:39Speaker 1: You certainly couldn't for a while. I'm thinking that might
- 12:44Speaker 1: have changed.
- 12:44Speaker 2: I'm not sure that maybe the plastic ones or whatever
- 12:47Speaker 2: they made, there is a single one that you can
- 12:50Speaker 2: get like a double ended one. That's no, it's it's
- 12:58Speaker 2: like the window rob the knitties. Yeah, so love it.
- 13:03Speaker 1: We really need someone qualified in this conversation about the
- 13:07Speaker 1: yarn arts.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Haven't we just hit the limit of our knowledge on
- 13:11Speaker 3: this one so quickly? Like that's it?
- 13:12Speaker 2: But we could debate we do have yarn. We'll have
- 13:19Speaker 2: a yarn.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Very good Caine.
- 13:22Speaker 3: I like it anyway, that I just loved it. I
- 13:24Speaker 3: love saying because sometimes at night I think to myself,
- 13:27Speaker 3: when I'm sort of sitting around, I wish I was
- 13:30Speaker 3: like I wish I had a craft that I was
- 13:31Speaker 3: good at, that I could do. I mean, I'm useless.
- 13:33Speaker 3: I'm so not detail oriented. But I have started to
- 13:36Speaker 3: start a.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Live go get some needles.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Get I tried, no, no, I play. I made my
- 13:44Speaker 3: children play ball games with me instead. So, but last
- 13:46Speaker 3: night I was cooking a roast and I so overcooked
- 13:48Speaker 3: the meat because I got really engaged in the game
- 13:50Speaker 3: of chess with Austin. I mean I beat him. Yeah, anyway,
- 13:57Speaker 3: So dinner was a great last night. But I won chess.
- 14:00Speaker 1: All important things. We have discovered a game called Monikers.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Have I told you about this? Monikers so M I
- 14:07Speaker 1: N M O, N I K E R S so
- 14:11Speaker 1: as in for names. And it's like a it's kind
- 14:13Speaker 1: of a hybridge of charades and scategories and the like.
- 14:18Speaker 1: And you have these cards and you operate in teams
- 14:22Speaker 1: and it's such a good one to do with a
- 14:25Speaker 1: with a group of different ages. And things, and it's
- 14:29Speaker 1: it's it's a highly record. I should put this in
- 14:31Speaker 1: Nlgible Recommends, but it's just it's just been a great one.
- 14:34Speaker 1: But if you've got someone who you partner with, so
- 14:38Speaker 1: you two, I wouldn't play against YouTube because you have
- 14:42Speaker 1: a shared language. Yeah, so it's like you would immediately
- 14:45Speaker 1: be able to to get what the other person is
- 14:48Speaker 1: talking about. So in the first round you're getting someone
- 14:50Speaker 1: to you've got a minute and I have to get
- 14:52Speaker 1: you to guess as many of the cards as I can,
- 14:54Speaker 1: and I can say whatever I want. And then in
- 14:56Speaker 1: the second round, I can only say it's the same cards,
- 14:58Speaker 1: but I can only use one word, and then the
- 15:00Speaker 1: third round I can't use any words. So over the
- 15:02Speaker 1: course of time you all get to know what the
- 15:04Speaker 1: cards are and there's some funny stuff come up. But
- 15:07Speaker 1: Lewis and I are really good together. It's just you know,
- 15:09Speaker 1: when you find someone who you can really connect and
- 15:13Speaker 1: share that language with something. Monika's very fun.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Get onto that as in sync as I was with
- 15:19Speaker 2: word all the other day.
- 15:21Speaker 1: That was weird.
- 15:22Speaker 2: That was a bit scary, wasn't it.
- 15:23Speaker 3: So what was the word?
- 15:25Speaker 1: How many did you get it in?
- 15:26Speaker 2: I got it in too, and what and.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Your starting word is reads, and then the second words
- 15:33Speaker 1: to mine for you. Well well, but then the universe
- 15:41Speaker 1: settled itself back down because after reads, the word that
- 15:45Speaker 1: you immediately thought of was.
- 15:47Speaker 2: And the word that it actually was drunk. As soon
- 15:54Speaker 2: as I got it, I just rolled and.
- 15:57Speaker 1: That was very funny. And we got it in. You
- 15:59Speaker 1: and I both got it in three.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Oh goodness. Hey, now let me tell you about and
- 16:04Speaker 2: I had at the Sydney Derby Derby Derby Derby. I
- 16:07Speaker 2: think it's Derby Derby, it's Derby in the West. So
- 16:11Speaker 2: a lady came up to me as I was walking past,
- 16:13Speaker 2: and she's like, oh, Catherine, Catherine, Catherine, you have to
- 16:15Speaker 2: come and meet Eryl. And I was like, oh, yeah, yeah,
- 16:18Speaker 2: this is this is Errol that's winning the tips. And
- 16:23Speaker 2: how I said last week on the show that I, oh, well,
- 16:27Speaker 2: I know now why she's not anymore anyway, So they
- 16:32Speaker 2: remember that I had said I want to know what
- 16:33Speaker 2: Erol's up to you and how Erol is going, so well,
- 16:35Speaker 2: is there something in place? Anyway? I met Eryl, She's like, nah,
- 16:39Speaker 2: I do it first thing on a Monday, Like I
- 16:41Speaker 2: get them in super early. I literally just there's no
- 16:45Speaker 2: rhyme nor reason to it. And she was even thinking
- 16:48Speaker 2: of changing tips right before the game the other night.
- 16:51Speaker 2: She said, even when she got the bingo and then
- 16:53Speaker 2: got the bonus points for the margin, you know how
- 16:56Speaker 2: it automatically has a number there. Yeah, just changed, she goes,
- 16:58Speaker 2: I just took one of the numbers off.
- 17:01Speaker 1: So she went for a two or a nine or something. Wow.
- 17:04Speaker 2: I was like, were your no help to me whatsoever?
- 17:06Speaker 2: But it was lovely to meet her.
- 17:08Speaker 1: So there is no secret source from Eryl. So I
- 17:10Speaker 1: will say, we'll get to this later on. Earl is
- 17:12Speaker 1: only sitting an equal second place, so it's definitely not
- 17:15Speaker 1: over for I would do anything.
- 17:18Speaker 2: She was conde changing a tip at the last minute.
- 17:21Speaker 2: That might be what happened.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Well, very interesting. Well maybe we should have a break
- 17:27Speaker 1: and talk about netbook. Okay, so round seven. We're halfway
- 17:41Speaker 1: through the season, which makes me happy and sad. It's
- 17:45Speaker 1: going so fast. It's like my children's childhood. It's going
- 17:48Speaker 1: to be over. It's taking forever, but it's going to
- 17:51Speaker 1: be over too fast. Yes, but we are. We're halfway there,
- 17:55Speaker 1: and that was a really exciting round of netball. I
- 17:57Speaker 1: thought I may I know I say that every week, but.
- 18:01Speaker 2: We're so right to be struggling with our tips because
- 18:03Speaker 2: the games are up and down.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Stop excuses, Well are you.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Struggling with your tips? Totally?
- 18:10Speaker 1: I've fallen to I've fallen to the bottom of our
- 18:13Speaker 1: Hosts and Heroes ladder of the active tippers. So Liz
- 18:16Speaker 1: is inactive kip obviously, but yeah, say Keeley Devris left
- 18:20Speaker 1: over me by one only, but still it's bloody hard.
- 18:24Speaker 1: You're sitting on twenty four points and the leader of
- 18:26Speaker 1: the whole comp is on thirty one, so you know
- 18:29Speaker 1: we are not covering ourselves in glory enough for that.
- 18:33Speaker 2: But anyway about some actions. Bloody hard And then you
- 18:36Speaker 2: watch the games and you're like, well, this this could
- 18:38Speaker 2: go anyway, no wonder, we're all having issues, And how
- 18:41Speaker 2: great that in this round there were two one point
- 18:43Speaker 2: games and then a Sydney derby and then a great
- 18:47Speaker 2: one in the West to finish what was the Grand
- 18:49Speaker 2: final rematch. So we just covered all the bases this week, didn't.
- 18:52Speaker 1: We Was that MAV's third game with a margin of
- 18:56Speaker 1: one point.
- 18:56Speaker 2: The first one they won they've won, Yeah, I.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Couldn't remember whether it was the third or the fourth one.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it was their third one point game, but the
- 19:04Speaker 2: first one they won amazing. Yeah, incredible, and it's like
- 19:08Speaker 2: far out That game was intense, is it probably a
- 19:12Speaker 2: good way to put it. There are a couple of
- 19:14Speaker 2: warnings which I haven't seen all year. I haven't seen
- 19:16Speaker 2: a warning at all this season. So the fact that
- 19:18Speaker 2: there was two in that one game, Sexton went off
- 19:21Speaker 2: with a blood nose. Not sure if it's broken or
- 19:24Speaker 2: what's going on, but it was all happening in that line.
- 19:26Speaker 1: And that was friendly fire.
- 19:27Speaker 2: That was from her.
- 19:30Speaker 1: It wasn't. That wasn't Mary Cholock who did that.
- 19:33Speaker 2: But cracking game, like so good. The stadium was so loud.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Did you see one of our dribblers posted a photo
- 19:39Speaker 2: or her watch.
- 19:40Speaker 1: I think that was in at the Adelaide Entertainment Center. Yeah,
- 19:43Speaker 1: that that Apple watch says go outside, you're damaging your hearing.
- 19:47Speaker 1: It's like you got outside, I'm staying here watching the game.
- 19:51Speaker 2: I love that.
- 19:52Speaker 1: That's cool.
- 19:53Speaker 2: But even that game, like the Adelaide game as well.
- 19:56Speaker 2: I mean it's it is so close to people's seasons
- 20:00Speaker 2: being so different. Yeah, like you think about the Mads
- 20:02Speaker 2: had they won those two other games they would be
- 20:05Speaker 2: so would be on twenty points. Yeah, so they'd be
- 20:07Speaker 2: equal third.
- 20:09Speaker 1: They would, wouldn't they with with? With? Or they hang on?
- 20:12Speaker 1: Who did they? Who did they play?
- 20:13Speaker 2: Those?
- 20:14Speaker 1: One was against the Swifts, so that yes they would
- 20:17Speaker 1: have got but who was the other? One was Vixen's
- 20:19Speaker 1: wasn't it okay? So then yeah, so then Vixens and
- 20:24Speaker 1: Tea Birds would be on twenty four each, and then
- 20:27Speaker 1: Fever and MAVs would be on twenty each.
- 20:30Speaker 2: I know, it's amazing, so close to being well and
- 20:32Speaker 2: it's the same can be said for the Sunshine Case
- 20:34Speaker 2: Lightning though they've lost two one goal games as well.
- 20:36Speaker 1: It was a rough weekend for Queensland netball fans, wasn't
- 20:39Speaker 1: it there? But for two points have cut so potentially
- 20:44Speaker 1: two teams sitting sitting in fourth and fifth.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Well, at least one of the Sydney team's got to win. Well,
- 20:50Speaker 2: that was what was going on?
- 20:51Speaker 1: Is that something we do? I thought that wasn't a
- 20:52Speaker 1: twenty twenty sixteen anymore, But yes, that was that. That
- 20:56Speaker 1: was good. It's tough for the Giants, isn't it.
- 20:58Speaker 2: I'm just I actually, at one point during the game
- 21:01Speaker 2: looked over it and there at a Stewart's towards the
- 21:03Speaker 2: end of the game, so they knew the loss was coming.
- 21:04Speaker 2: And I just thought, it's so much easier as a player,
- 21:08Speaker 2: And I don't think you really understand that until you retire.
- 21:11Speaker 2: And if you dabble in coaching or whatever. Players go
- 21:14Speaker 2: home and can turn off and go to sleep, they
- 21:17Speaker 2: might think about home mistakes they've made or whatever. Coach
- 21:20Speaker 2: after a loss like that, but then a season without
- 21:23Speaker 2: a win, you would not be able to turn your
- 21:26Speaker 2: mind off. What am I going to do at training?
- 21:28Speaker 2: What is happening? What's the problem with this side? Do
- 21:31Speaker 2: I need to? Like? The questions would be non stop,
- 21:34Speaker 2: wouldn't they? And it would be so frustrating. And I
- 21:36Speaker 2: remember speaking to Briany about this, probably after round four
- 21:39Speaker 2: or five. She said that trainings are so good. We
- 21:43Speaker 2: just if we trained so well, you think for sure
- 21:45Speaker 2: there's a big win coming on the weekend, and then
- 21:47Speaker 2: that becomes a big head scratcher as well. It would
- 21:50Speaker 2: just be so hard, wouldn't it.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Yeah, And it's hard because you don't want to get
- 21:54Speaker 3: too focused on the outcome right on the win, the win,
- 21:57Speaker 3: the win and the loss. You still have to as
- 22:00Speaker 3: a coach and as leaders in the team, keep everyone
- 22:02Speaker 3: really focus on the process because it's a process that's
- 22:04Speaker 3: going to get you there. And if you're worrying consistently
- 22:06Speaker 3: about the outcome, you forget to do the things that
- 22:09Speaker 3: you're doing in training. And I reckon you know, when
- 22:12Speaker 3: I think back to teams that weren't successful that we
- 22:14Speaker 3: were in. One of the things that we did well.
- 22:16Speaker 3: We went through a period with the Diamonds when I
- 22:18Speaker 3: first became captain, we were losing and we went and
- 22:21Speaker 3: just redefined what our success I know, can you believe it?
- 22:25Speaker 3: We redefined and then we won the World Cup afterwards,
- 22:31Speaker 3: so it's fine, but we redefined for about twelve months
- 22:33Speaker 3: our success success metrics. Right, so rather than going, oh,
- 22:37Speaker 3: you've got to win this your quarters and it was about, okay,
- 22:41Speaker 3: let's think about how many goals we will score in
- 22:43Speaker 3: a quarter, and let's think about, particularly playing in New Zealand,
- 22:47Speaker 3: reducing that margin at the quarters, and let's focus on
- 22:51Speaker 3: scoring from x percent of our turnovers. So then you
- 22:53Speaker 3: sort of stopped focusing on the scoreboard and start focusing
- 22:56Speaker 3: on little things. But that's a really hard thing to do.
- 22:59Speaker 3: That takes a lot of energy as a coach and
- 23:01Speaker 3: the leaders to do that.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Speaking of numbers and ratios and things, something that came
- 23:06Speaker 2: out in the Firebirds MAVs game yesterday Jared's ratio.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Yes, it's interesting.
- 23:12Speaker 2: It was fascinating. So I'd never heard this before, but
- 23:15Speaker 2: we went to Jared Murphy at the three quarter time
- 23:18Speaker 2: just after three quarter time break when we always go
- 23:20Speaker 2: and inter view the coaches, and at that stage they
- 23:23Speaker 2: had a ton of penalties, and I actually just said
- 23:25Speaker 2: to him, what are his thoughts on the penalties? Good?
- 23:28Speaker 1: Bad?
- 23:28Speaker 2: The ebbs and the flows. Obviously they work to intimidate,
- 23:31Speaker 2: but then you don't want to be able to play
- 23:32Speaker 2: blah blah blah. He said, they have a ratio that
- 23:36Speaker 2: they work with, so if they are getting gains to
- 23:39Speaker 2: a certain number of games per penalties, he's okay with that.
- 23:43Speaker 2: But if there's penalties and no games that work in
- 23:47Speaker 2: the ratio that they want, then it's too much and
- 23:49Speaker 2: it's got to be addressed. I thought that is really interesting,
- 23:52Speaker 2: and I've not heard it ever put like that before.
- 23:54Speaker 1: It's an interesting metric, isn't it.
- 23:55Speaker 3: I think it's really interesting.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Right.
- 23:57Speaker 3: One of the things about penalties is I got a
- 24:00Speaker 3: really low penalty account. It could very well mean you're
- 24:02Speaker 3: in the game, you're not contesting, you're not having a go.
- 24:05Speaker 3: So whilst you don't want to be giving away penalties,
- 24:08Speaker 3: I think, and we spoke about this a few years
- 24:11Speaker 3: ago when I was commentating that if you can put
- 24:13Speaker 3: up with a defender getting penalized if they're winning the ball,
- 24:18Speaker 3: and I mean I wasn't quite as clever as as
- 24:21Speaker 3: Jared to put it, you know, like that, but in
- 24:23Speaker 3: terms of ratios, But yeah, I think it's I think
- 24:26Speaker 3: it's a really interesting point and I think it's a
- 24:28Speaker 3: worthwhile thing to be thinking about. You if you've got
- 24:31Speaker 3: someone who's getting back a heap of ball. I mean,
- 24:33Speaker 3: but then you can see when someone's penalized out of
- 24:35Speaker 3: the game, and you look at the type of penalties
- 24:37Speaker 3: get in a way too, like lot sort of instruction penalties.
- 24:40Speaker 3: It's like, just fix it up and you're back in
- 24:41Speaker 3: the game. Yeah, yeah, just stay in play.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Kirk Trump did immediately back up with what's the ratio,
- 24:48Speaker 2: and he wouldn't answer. It would be fascinating to know,
- 24:51Speaker 2: wouldn't it.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I guess it sort of depends a little bit too
- 24:55Speaker 1: on what the depth of your bench is like too
- 24:57Speaker 1: in that gold offense goal keeper position, because if you
- 25:00Speaker 1: get someone who is at the point of getting a warning,
- 25:04Speaker 1: then they need to back it off. But you're probably
- 25:06Speaker 1: your best option then is to sub them off and
- 25:07Speaker 1: put someone else on who hasn't pissed the umpires off
- 25:10Speaker 1: quite so much. But if you don't have someone who
- 25:13Speaker 1: can come in in that play, then you go, all right,
- 25:15Speaker 1: you have to now dramatically alter your style of play,
- 25:18Speaker 1: don't you.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Well, it was interesting because it was Amy Parmenter that
- 25:20Speaker 2: got a warning and her game is it's like it's
- 25:24Speaker 2: her last couple of steps of speed where she gets
- 25:26Speaker 2: a lot of ball back. But that does sometimes end
- 25:29Speaker 2: up in taking people out just the angle of it
- 25:32Speaker 2: because it's a little bit harder, and the line did
- 25:33Speaker 2: a lot on the way kid did. But it was
- 25:36Speaker 2: interesting because obviously Jerry didn't want to take her off.
- 25:39Speaker 2: He did say to her in one of the huddles
- 25:40Speaker 2: later on in the game, just contest the ones the
- 25:44Speaker 2: umpire can see that are on the umpires.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Side of the court.
- 25:47Speaker 2: That's interesting that they can see clearly that you are
- 25:50Speaker 2: contesting cleanly. That's how you keep yourself out of trouble
- 25:53Speaker 2: fascinating as well, you know the insides of you know,
- 25:57Speaker 2: the coaching and the strategy and everything around different parts
- 26:00Speaker 2: of the game and where you're at.
- 26:02Speaker 3: And what it's like, you know, when you coach kids
- 26:04Speaker 3: sometimes and I'll say, oh, but she's all over me.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Sometimes you have to draw the umpire's eye to that right,
- 26:10Speaker 3: and if you don't pass the attack of the ball,
- 26:14Speaker 3: the umpire isn't going to see that the defender is
- 26:16Speaker 3: in verted Commas all over because the umpires have so
- 26:19Speaker 3: much they've got to look at it right. So, and
- 26:21Speaker 3: we used to talk about this a lot. Sometimes you
- 26:22Speaker 3: have to give a ball that you know is not
- 26:25Speaker 3: going to be cleanly taken and it's highly lucky that
- 26:29Speaker 3: the person you'll play against would draw the penalty, and
- 26:32Speaker 3: so you keep possession. But you're just showing the umpire
- 26:34Speaker 3: that that contact is happening off the ball, and it's
- 26:37Speaker 3: a bit of a risk, but sometimes it's just worth.
- 26:39Speaker 3: I'll give me the pass to just draw the umpire's eye.
- 26:42Speaker 2: It's funny because this was a lesson I learned really
- 26:44Speaker 2: early on. I reckon. It was my first year with
- 26:46Speaker 2: the Swifts and there was a certain opponent that we
- 26:48Speaker 2: would come up against all the time, who was known
- 26:51Speaker 2: to be quite dirty, and we had discussed with the
- 26:55Speaker 2: umpires how you manage it, and I remember the.
- 26:58Speaker 1: MP put your hand up and say I'm not feeling.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Not like that, not like that. But I do remember
- 27:05Speaker 2: the umpire saying if we can't see it, we can't
- 27:07Speaker 2: call it. And at that point I thought, oh, yeah,
- 27:10Speaker 2: that makes sense. I was just thinking, clearly, you can
- 27:14Speaker 2: clearly you get that that's happening.
- 27:16Speaker 3: You're sad, I am.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Whilst they could, they said we also can't make up
- 27:20Speaker 2: a call. I was right, yes, okay, makes perfect sense.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Leave it.
- 27:26Speaker 3: And I saw us, Yeah, I saw us that eight
- 27:30Speaker 3: years ago. That like netball, umpires have to make some
- 27:34Speaker 3: horrific amount of decisions, so many decisions. Second. Right, So
- 27:39Speaker 3: as a player, you've got to be a bit smarter
- 27:41Speaker 3: about showing them what's happening in the game and showing
- 27:43Speaker 3: them that you're contesting properly or that someone is doing
- 27:46Speaker 3: like you can't just go I should say it, Well,
- 27:48Speaker 3: the umpire's doing their best.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:50Speaker 1: There was an interesting I called Gordy last night because
- 27:53Speaker 1: there was an interesting call in the Fever game and
- 27:56Speaker 1: Sasha Glasgow was taking a super shot and she nailed it,
- 28:00Speaker 1: and then the umpire call, this is in quarter two,
- 28:02Speaker 1: I think, said no goal, and then gave the ball
- 28:05Speaker 1: back to her and she took it again and got
- 28:07Speaker 1: the super shot, and I said, that was really odd.
- 28:10Speaker 1: What about advantage? And Sue said it was so loud
- 28:13Speaker 1: at rac Arena last night that that umpire was having
- 28:16Speaker 1: difficulty having herself heard, so she needed kind of make
- 28:19Speaker 1: the point just like you guys have to be looking
- 28:21Speaker 1: at me. To you, you have to take responsibility for
- 28:26Speaker 1: knowing what the umpire's call is. And that's you know,
- 28:29Speaker 1: I guess what that was. But that would have been
- 28:31Speaker 1: an interesting one if she hadn't nailed the super shot
- 28:33Speaker 1: the second time. And it's like, well, where is advantage
- 28:36Speaker 1: all of this? And I've got to say I do
- 28:38Speaker 1: not I don't understand the rule of advantage in netball.
- 28:41Speaker 1: That that that that is something that is beyond my
- 28:44Speaker 1: tiny brain. But you know, it's like, well, in that one,
- 28:46Speaker 1: it's like she just got the two pointer. Surely advantage
- 28:48Speaker 1: says you let her have it. But I understand that
- 28:51Speaker 1: the umpires going I've got the rest of this game
- 28:53Speaker 1: going this way unless I make you guys understand that
- 28:55Speaker 1: this you got to you gotta listen to me.
- 28:57Speaker 2: That's why that whole game sense is so important, now,
- 28:59Speaker 2: isn't it to be aware of all the stuff. Yeah,
- 29:03Speaker 2: the clock and those sorts of things, and the noise
- 29:05Speaker 2: in the crowd and the.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Clock thing is so interesting, isn't it. And we've seen
- 29:09Speaker 1: a couple of games this year where the more experienced
- 29:12Speaker 1: teams have an eye on what's happening on the clock
- 29:14Speaker 1: and are able to use that to their advantage. But
- 29:16Speaker 1: I was just about to say that about Amy Parmenter.
- 29:19Speaker 1: You know, the quality of these athletes. They're so good
- 29:21Speaker 1: at what they're doing that they can actually pay attention
- 29:25Speaker 1: to other things on court that it's like, it's not
- 29:27Speaker 1: just reactive that I'm going I'm going to go after
- 29:29Speaker 1: that board. It's like, no, I'm going to do that
- 29:31Speaker 1: on this side of the court.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Then, exactly the same time, I thought, Jesus, how good
- 29:36Speaker 2: is she that she just picks and chooses which ones
- 29:39Speaker 2: to go for?
- 29:40Speaker 1: But also the players, like at any given time, how
- 29:43Speaker 1: many potential decisions and calls they can be making, and
- 29:47Speaker 1: the things that they are having to look at it.
- 29:49Speaker 1: So it's just exhausting to even think about. Nice to
- 29:53Speaker 1: see Ruth rang back on yeah court yesterday and she.
- 29:56Speaker 3: Did very well too.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Came on as gold defense in quarter two and then
- 30:00Speaker 1: went off, and then came back on as wing defense
- 30:03Speaker 1: in the back end of quarter three and stayed on
- 30:05Speaker 1: for the rest of the game.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Looked good. Well, I want to ask you about this, okay,
- 30:09Speaker 2: because we know when players come back from injury there's
- 30:12Speaker 2: load manager. Yeah, yeah, So Maddie Gordon was one of them.
- 30:16Speaker 2: In a game like that, are you better off to
- 30:19Speaker 2: not have them? There's only ten people than have someone
- 30:23Speaker 2: you know can only play half a game.
- 30:26Speaker 1: But she played a really good if we're talking about
- 30:28Speaker 1: well for both of them, they played Boddy well for
- 30:30Speaker 1: that period of time. And don't you want to be
- 30:32Speaker 1: getting them back? I mean, not as fast as you can,
- 30:35Speaker 1: but you want to be getting particularly I guess particularly
- 30:40Speaker 1: for Fever where the stakes are looking higher potentially for finals,
- 30:45Speaker 1: that they want to make sure that they've got everyone
- 30:47Speaker 1: game ready, don't they. So I don't know why am
- 30:50Speaker 1: I answering this question? Why are you looking at me
- 30:53Speaker 1: to ask it?
- 30:54Speaker 3: Liz ah I did, like I'm like listening to you.
- 31:01Speaker 2: He's trying to scramble at it as Barrel.
- 31:03Speaker 1: I've been on ABC Radio talking netball. Come on, oh
- 31:06Speaker 1: this is true?
- 31:07Speaker 3: Oh no, I think you're right though. I think that's
- 31:09Speaker 3: just a that's a decision that the coach makes.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Right.
- 31:12Speaker 3: If you've got someone who you really think can come
- 31:14Speaker 3: and be impactful for half and that's all they can play,
- 31:17Speaker 3: and then you take them if that's what you plan
- 31:18Speaker 3: to do with them. Whereas if you think that you
- 31:21Speaker 3: need someone who might not be as impactful but is
- 31:23Speaker 3: available for the whole game, then you take them. It's
- 31:26Speaker 3: just part of your planning. Really, Like, I don't think
- 31:28Speaker 3: coaches going but and go halfway through the game what
- 31:32Speaker 3: I'm playing for half? Are we going to tell me that?
- 31:34Speaker 3: They all know? Right, So you plan about when you
- 31:36Speaker 3: bring someone on for a bit of impact.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Very good. Let me talk about Actually, sorry before I
- 31:42Speaker 1: forget it. It's something exciting that started yesterday as the
- 31:44Speaker 1: Sun Sun Corps Supernetball Reserves comp fever and the Ragning premise,
- 31:48Speaker 1: and this will culminate in a final in Sydney on
- 31:52Speaker 1: the fourteenth of June before the I think it's the
- 31:56Speaker 1: Giant Swiss game then, so it's the next Sydney dub
- 31:59Speaker 1: and that's that's really exciting. That's being played before or
- 32:02Speaker 1: after a Super Netball game. So if you're there and
- 32:05Speaker 1: you can get there early and watch that or stay
- 32:07Speaker 1: later and then be super smart in coming seasons and
- 32:10Speaker 1: selection periods. And oh yeah, I've been watching them for
- 32:13Speaker 1: a while and I think it's cool to be able
- 32:15Speaker 1: to say stuff like that, So let's get around that.
- 32:18Speaker 1: But the most exciting comp is obviously the Vala Dribblers
- 32:21Speaker 1: tipping comp. And I did flag that we have a
- 32:24Speaker 1: new leader. We actually have three new leaders on thirty
- 32:27Speaker 1: one points. We have CJ firstborns and off to the pub,
- 32:33Speaker 1: and then we have six people sitting on thirty points,
- 32:36Speaker 1: including this week's weekly tip Ardvo two ninety two, who's
- 32:40Speaker 1: a Fever fan who wins the fifty dollars Vala voucher
- 32:43Speaker 1: for correctly tipping the round and the margin. And Errol
- 32:48Speaker 1: is also one of those sitting in second place there.
- 32:51Speaker 1: But yeah, this was a really tough round, so we've
- 32:53Speaker 1: got a real spread of scores. We had two hundred
- 32:56Speaker 1: and forty one people got bingo this week, two hundred
- 32:58Speaker 1: and sixty two people got three right, and two hundred
- 33:01Speaker 1: and sixteen got two. Usually we see two.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Forty one got bingo.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I know.
- 33:07Speaker 3: Wow.
- 33:08Speaker 1: You were not one of those. No, I was not
- 33:09Speaker 1: one of those.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Was Alexa one of them?
- 33:11Speaker 1: Alexa was not one of those. So let me give
- 33:13Speaker 1: the update that we've all been waiting for. And because
- 33:16Speaker 1: of this, we have to make a little bit of
- 33:19Speaker 1: a change in what's going to happen on the social
- 33:21Speaker 1: media for the rest of the Vala Dribblers Tipping com
- 33:23Speaker 1: So we have some hot competition in the Hosts and
- 33:27Speaker 1: Heroes ladder. Lisa Bass our winner from last year, Lisa
- 33:30Speaker 1: and her daughter Laura and the Bascinators sitting on twenty six,
- 33:33Speaker 1: Darryl the stats man on twenty five, on twenty four
- 33:36Speaker 1: points in equal third place. Cox Rocks and your Eddy
- 33:41Speaker 1: your net BULBESTI Alexa Prino. Now you're slightly ahead of
- 33:44Speaker 1: her because you've picked the margin better. So and then
- 33:48Speaker 1: Gordy and Keeley are on twenty two. I'm on twenty one,
- 33:51Speaker 1: which how is it even? So I've yeah, not done
- 33:54Speaker 1: particularly well. And Liz, who only tips the home games,
- 33:57Speaker 1: is sitting on fifteen points. So what we're not going
- 34:01Speaker 1: to Catherine's going to go dark for the rest of
- 34:03Speaker 1: the season. She's not dyeing a hair, but she just
- 34:05Speaker 1: won't be revealing what her tips are.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Because to save you all from the bad judgment.
- 34:14Speaker 1: So you'll still get to know what my tips are,
- 34:17Speaker 1: which is obviously terribly helpful in many ways. But yeah,
- 34:21Speaker 1: we've still got to We've still got seven rounds to
- 34:24Speaker 1: go before we know who our winner is of that
- 34:26Speaker 1: comp and who will win the Golden Turkey, and that's
- 34:29Speaker 1: that's heating up as well. There's quite a few people
- 34:32Speaker 1: clamoring for the poultry roll. Well, we've got four games
- 34:37Speaker 1: this week, MAVs versus Swift's in Victoria, Tea Birds versus
- 34:41Speaker 1: Fybirds in Adelaide, Lightning versus Fever in Sunshine Coast, and
- 34:48Speaker 1: Vixen's versus Giants. There's one there on going to tip first. Yeah,
- 34:55Speaker 1: but there's three there that I'm thinking are going to
- 34:58Speaker 1: be quite difficult to tip it. Look, also, you never
- 35:00Speaker 1: know what. The Giants nearly beat the Tea Birds at
- 35:02Speaker 1: home a couple of weeks ago, right, so exactly. But yes,
- 35:06Speaker 1: another exciting round ahead, and don't forget the No Dribble
- 35:10Speaker 1: Live event on Friday, the fifth of June.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Have we got people coming.
- 35:15Speaker 1: We do.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going well.
- 35:17Speaker 1: So it's the night before senior state titles here in
- 35:20Speaker 1: New Southwest. We did see on the Facebook Queensland saying
- 35:23Speaker 1: that we don't talk about state titles. That we talk
- 35:26Speaker 1: about New South Wales state titles. We really only talk
- 35:28Speaker 1: about that one because we have an event the night before.
- 35:30Speaker 1: We will talk about it. But I hear that it
- 35:32Speaker 1: was a sensational event up in Townsville and we'd love
- 35:35Speaker 1: to be invited next year.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Yes, that's the best way to get us talking about it.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Give us up there.
- 35:41Speaker 1: It's just that this one's down the road, so but yeah,
- 35:44Speaker 1: please get your tickets on trybooking. The link is in
- 35:48Speaker 1: the show notes, and come along to our event. We've
- 35:50Speaker 1: got great prizes. We're talking to some pretty excellent guests
- 35:54Speaker 1: who might be joining us on the night. Catherine could
- 35:56Speaker 1: be leading a craft b I don't know how that's progressing,
- 36:00Speaker 1: but it's going to be a very fun night and
- 36:02Speaker 1: thanks to everyone who's already picked up their tickets. All right, Liz,
- 36:18Speaker 1: we've had a couple of weeks off Ask the Goat,
- 36:21Speaker 1: but are you ready?
- 36:23Speaker 3: I am.
- 36:23Speaker 1: This one's going to test your expertise in a slightly
- 36:27Speaker 1: different way, one that we haven't actually used before. So
- 36:31Speaker 1: do you know if she knows about this? I have
- 36:33Speaker 1: no idea. I know she has a keen interest in
- 36:37Speaker 1: the area, and she has a family member who is
- 36:41Speaker 1: working in the profession. I don't know whether we call
- 36:45Speaker 1: it a profession incorrect. So this one comes from Tonay,
- 36:50Speaker 1: who is one of those who may be our golden
- 36:53Speaker 1: Turkey this year. But she would like you to settle
- 36:55Speaker 1: a debate between her and her daughter. And it's about
- 37:00Speaker 1: baked goods, specifically the Niinish tart. Don't call it the
- 37:06Speaker 1: Nish tart. So this is the pink and brown one
- 37:09Speaker 1: I think, isn't it?
- 37:11Speaker 3: Yes?
- 37:11Speaker 1: It is, And they would like to know is the
- 37:15Speaker 1: icing the two flavored icing? Is it the same flavor?
- 37:19Speaker 1: And two part question is the custard in the Niinish
- 37:24Speaker 1: tart the same as the custard in a vanilla slice?
- 37:29Speaker 1: This is the ask the goat segment where we ask
- 37:32Speaker 1: the greatest of all time to answer a question, usually
- 37:37Speaker 1: way outside her expertise. So let's see how Liz Ellis goes.
- 37:42Speaker 3: This is way outside my expertise. I think that the
- 37:46Speaker 3: Niinish tart the icing, it's generally pink and brown, isn't it?
- 37:51Speaker 1: I think so?
- 37:53Speaker 3: Yeah it is. And so I'm not a massive bakup,
- 37:57Speaker 3: but my daughter is. And so it's MI understanding that
- 37:59Speaker 3: when you make brown icing, use cocoa chocolate to make
- 38:04Speaker 3: it brown, yep. And then if you're going to make
- 38:07Speaker 3: something pink, then you use food coloring. So I would
- 38:09Speaker 3: say they would taste slightly different. So the brown icing
- 38:12Speaker 3: would taste like chocolate and the pink icing would taste
- 38:15Speaker 3: like butter and sugar essentially.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Okay.
- 38:18Speaker 3: In terms of the custard, I don't know. Did Ninish
- 38:20Speaker 3: tarts have custod They must have, mustn't they? I don't know.
- 38:22Speaker 3: I know the difference between like vanilla slices and custard tarts.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Let's talk about that. That's delicious, Yeah, so ooky.
- 38:31Speaker 3: If I was going to do that in a netball
- 38:33Speaker 3: sort of sense, I would say, the custard in the
- 38:36Speaker 3: custard tart is a bit like your steady goalkeeper. You know,
- 38:39Speaker 3: you're just it's a baked egg custard. All you shove
- 38:42Speaker 3: it in the oven and it just does the job.
- 38:44Speaker 2: You Again, here we go, and the gold shooter was
- 38:49Speaker 2: just got scrambled and we left out to dry. Well.
- 38:52Speaker 3: No, the vanilla custard is.
- 38:55Speaker 1: A more delicate creature.
- 38:57Speaker 3: Yeah, it is more delicate, and it's a stove top
- 38:59Speaker 3: cust that I think. So it's it's it requires a
- 39:03Speaker 3: little bit more work, a bit more uppeak, but under
- 39:06Speaker 3: pressure and squirts out the sides.
- 39:13Speaker 2: It was only that one time. You don't need to tell.
- 39:15Speaker 3: Everybody, and that's all I've got. That's all I've got it. Sorry,
- 39:26Speaker 3: Could you.
- 39:27Speaker 1: Give a wing defense parallel in the custard world or
- 39:32Speaker 1: the baked goods world?
- 39:35Speaker 3: I think the wing defense parallel, that's all.
- 39:41Speaker 1: After the weekend of wing defense action that we saw,
- 39:44Speaker 1: I feel like the wing defense deserves a little bit
- 39:47Speaker 1: more respect. I'm obviously in the wrong place thinking that.
- 39:50Speaker 3: I was thinking that, like maybe the wind defense could
- 39:52Speaker 3: be like the finger button, like it's always there.
- 39:55Speaker 1: I've always been quite fast.
- 39:59Speaker 3: Sorry, you don't really get excited about the finger bun,
- 40:02Speaker 3: but when you have it, you go, I really like it.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Fingerbun won't be anyone's first choice, but yeah.
- 40:17Speaker 2: My god, on the finger bun. Serious question. Are you
- 40:21Speaker 2: a coconut in the icing person or not?
- 40:23Speaker 1: You know?
- 40:23Speaker 2: Sometimes I, oh, yeah, it's just not the plain pink classing.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Well, I don't mind that, but if I have the
- 40:29Speaker 1: plane pink icing, then I really want it to be buttered.
- 40:31Speaker 1: But I like the coconut. What about what about you?
- 40:35Speaker 3: No, look, I don't mind you that. I just like
- 40:37Speaker 3: lots of lashings of butter.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Oh dearing me. That's funny.
- 40:42Speaker 1: So the word of the episode is fingerbun. So today
- 40:48Speaker 1: we've not answered your question at all. We've put it,
- 40:50Speaker 1: we've put it to the goat, and things have descended
- 40:53Speaker 1: into absurdity. But thank you, we appreciate the question, and
- 40:57Speaker 1: thanks to everybody who is sending their us the questions
- 41:00Speaker 1: into info at no dribble dot com dot au. Keep
- 41:04Speaker 1: them coming, keep them coming. That's exciting. Catherine. You have
- 41:08Speaker 1: to make an apology to the dribblers.
- 41:11Speaker 2: Oh I do, yes, I gave you a bum steer.
- 41:13Speaker 2: The Louis Vauton's scrunchies are not four hundred ish dollars.
- 41:17Speaker 2: They are six hundred and sixty five dollars for two.
- 41:20Speaker 2: You get two of them. Yeah, and they called some
- 41:23Speaker 2: fancy name shushoes a shoeshoe shu shoo.
- 41:26Speaker 1: I don't know that it's pronounced chew choos. But obviously
- 41:29Speaker 1: it's actually pronounced charwchroals, but spelt rather it's I don't
- 41:32Speaker 1: know how it's pronounced. We need a French speaker to
- 41:34Speaker 1: tell us that. I assume it's.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Shushoes, but it's like shoe pay street.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Yeah, c cho u c h o u s. So
- 41:41Speaker 1: if you've got a stupid friend and you have three
- 41:44Speaker 1: hundred and thirty two dollars and fifty cents each, you
- 41:46Speaker 1: could go and get a Louis Verton scrunchy.
- 41:49Speaker 2: Each, or just wait for one of ours.
- 41:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Look, I don't know about this. I know that you've
- 41:55Speaker 1: threatened to give them away, but I think that undermines
- 41:59Speaker 1: the sacredness of the wind beneath our wings acknowledgment.
- 42:05Speaker 2: So we're just going to put them in our little
- 42:06Speaker 2: nest and sit on them. I don't know.
- 42:10Speaker 1: You know, they're not they're not a natural fiber, so
- 42:12Speaker 1: they will be around well into the next millennium. So
- 42:16Speaker 1: we should probably get them out into the world. But
- 42:19Speaker 1: I feel like I don't really know. I'm torn about
- 42:22Speaker 1: that one. Maybe we need some wind beneath our wingers
- 42:25Speaker 1: to let us know what they feel about that, whether
- 42:28Speaker 1: that would whether they would be willing to share the joy,
- 42:32Speaker 1: but know in their hearts that they had it awarded
- 42:34Speaker 1: to them. I don't know. I don't know.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Now I've got things that make you go, I love it. Yeah,
- 42:53Speaker 2: I was rubbed the wrong way, A good way, wrong way.
- 42:58Speaker 2: But I want to know if this how you feel
- 43:01Speaker 2: about this. So I went to the local discount store
- 43:05Speaker 2: to get a healium balloon for someone's birthday the other day.
- 43:08Speaker 2: They have a stack of different helium balloons, and I
- 43:11Speaker 2: asked the lady that runs the store how much it
- 43:14Speaker 2: was to fill a ballooner. She points to a sign
- 43:19Speaker 2: and does not say a word more. And on this
- 43:22Speaker 2: sign there's all these different sized balloons and the helium
- 43:25Speaker 2: and I don't know which size is which of the balloons.
- 43:28Speaker 2: And I said to her, I can see your sign,
- 43:30Speaker 2: but can you just tell me what's this one? She said,
- 43:33Speaker 2: I've been here twenty nine years. I don't have to
- 43:37Speaker 2: answer these questions anymore. Oh my god, what I kid
- 43:40Speaker 2: you were not? I kid you not. I'm too busy.
- 43:45Speaker 2: There was no bastard there, and it really pissed me off.
- 43:52Speaker 2: But I was like, she got a point or not.
- 43:55Speaker 2: I actually did say to her, I'm amazed you've got
- 43:57Speaker 2: any customers?
- 43:58Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, well I think it's really fun. But no,
- 44:03Speaker 1: she doesn't have a point like that.
- 44:06Speaker 2: It's just so rude.
- 44:08Speaker 1: It's a really interesting pass model.
- 44:10Speaker 3: I can't ever remember seeing those words in the customer
- 44:13Speaker 3: service manual.
- 44:16Speaker 1: Venture that she doesn't own the business.
- 44:18Speaker 2: She does what? Yep, she's the boss lady that's been
- 44:21Speaker 2: there twenty nine years, and she doesn't have to answer
- 44:23Speaker 2: my main questions.
- 44:25Speaker 1: Wow, did you.
- 44:26Speaker 2: If I don't want it, I leave?
- 44:28Speaker 3: So did you money laundering purposes?
- 44:31Speaker 1: Maybe that's it interesting?
- 44:33Speaker 2: No, well it was a it was a pug wearing
- 44:37Speaker 2: sunglasses on a balloon, so I had to get it
- 44:41Speaker 2: from there.
- 44:42Speaker 1: But I let yourself down.
- 44:43Speaker 2: But I will never go back there.
- 44:45Speaker 1: You've let yourself down. Yeah, she was to walk out
- 44:48Speaker 1: and back in the universe to deliver you another pug.
- 44:51Speaker 2: I know, when you find a pug of sunglasses on
- 44:53Speaker 2: a balloon.
- 44:55Speaker 1: I imagine quite a few places. If you're at a
- 44:57Speaker 1: discount store. There is true, it's not an artisan gallery
- 45:03Speaker 1: like what they're selling. They are sold at other places.
- 45:06Speaker 2: And timu if all else fails.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Wow, that's that's that's staggering. It's quite funny. When you
- 45:13Speaker 1: get confronted with something like that, because you go, I, actually,
- 45:16Speaker 1: I don't know how to react to this because this
- 45:18Speaker 1: is outside of my normal programming, Like you know, when
- 45:22Speaker 1: someone just goes to hell with it, I am going
- 45:25Speaker 1: hardcore route. That is very funny, and I reckon I
- 45:33Speaker 1: know where this discount store is because I know well.
- 45:38Speaker 1: On the flip side of that, I had a customer
- 45:40Speaker 1: service experience during the week that was exciting and interesting,
- 45:45Speaker 1: but it didn't involve a person. I got some genes
- 45:48Speaker 1: taken up because oh wow, here's a plot twist. Every
- 45:51Speaker 1: time I buy a new pair of jeans, I have
- 45:52Speaker 1: to get it about take that and.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Give it to me. What so I can make my
- 45:56Speaker 2: gens longer when you get your tut off.
- 46:01Speaker 1: But they had an option to because it's a dry
- 46:04Speaker 1: cleaner as well. This place, I had an option where
- 46:06Speaker 1: I could prepay. They'd send me a text message to
- 46:08Speaker 1: go and pick it up. So I had to go
- 46:09Speaker 1: to this thing like an ATM and plug in my
- 46:12Speaker 1: numbers and then I saw all of the dry cleaning
- 46:15Speaker 1: whirring around inside and then it stopped. It was like
- 46:18Speaker 1: it was like a fashion roulette. And then the cage
- 46:22Speaker 1: door open and I got to take my thing out.
- 46:24Speaker 1: It was, oh, this is exciting.
- 46:26Speaker 2: It feel it would be far fun if you didn't
- 46:28Speaker 2: know what you were going to get. No, wouldn't ye
- 46:30Speaker 2: would No got some old men's joses.
- 46:34Speaker 1: But wouldn't it be better to get your own more
- 46:37Speaker 1: jeans that you've been waiting to have has mended. Yeah,
- 46:40Speaker 1: but that was exciting, And no one told me they
- 46:43Speaker 1: didn't have to answer my questions there doing away with people.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Ordinarily we don't do all three segments, but I have
- 46:49Speaker 1: to tell you No. Dribble recommends a couple of things
- 46:52Speaker 1: I've watched. Last night. We watched Red Dawn with the Children,
- 46:55Speaker 1: which was the movie that came out in nineteen eighty
- 46:57Speaker 1: four with Charlie Sheen and patrick's Way and Jennifer Gray
- 47:02Speaker 1: and see Thomas how it's like Tomorrow when the war began.
- 47:05Speaker 1: You know that the and the Wolverines are the local
- 47:08Speaker 1: football team and they have to take down the bad guys.
- 47:10Speaker 1: It's very fun, but like all movies made in nineteen
- 47:14Speaker 1: eighty four, it's kind of excruciatingly bad. You know, there's
- 47:18Speaker 1: no character development, the dialogue's all really corny, and then
- 47:22Speaker 1: there's these massive leaps in the plot, but it's very entertaining.
- 47:26Speaker 1: But one that I can say definitely recommend is on
- 47:30Speaker 1: Netflix and it's called Trust Me False Prophet, a four
- 47:33Speaker 1: part series about these fundamentalists Latter Day Saints community in
- 47:38Speaker 1: Colorado City in Utah. It's really interesting and really sad,
- 47:44Speaker 1: sort of looking at polygamy and these young women who
- 47:47Speaker 1: are drawn into these relationships. But great viewing. No Dribble
- 47:52Speaker 1: recommends trust Me False Profit.
- 47:54Speaker 3: Do you know I watched a great documentary last night
- 47:57Speaker 3: that I'm happy to do it. No dribbles recommend the
- 48:00Speaker 3: kids want. The kids wanted to watch the documentary, so
- 48:02Speaker 3: we watch Serengeti Rules. So interesting, so fascinating about how
- 48:06Speaker 3: if you take the predator at the apex predator out
- 48:09Speaker 3: of an ecosystem, the whole thing falls apart. You think,
- 48:12Speaker 3: like apex predators are really bad, but actually you need
- 48:14Speaker 3: them at the top to keep everything else in check. Anyway,
- 48:16Speaker 3: it was really interesting.
- 48:18Speaker 1: So like the wolves in Yellowstone and things. When they the.
- 48:21Speaker 3: Wolves in Yellowstone, Yeah, otters up in the chain of
- 48:26Speaker 3: islands that sort of is around Alaska, all wolf spiders
- 48:30Speaker 3: in rice paddicks. Yeah, would you say.
- 48:32Speaker 1: Lucian the Alutian Islands.
- 48:34Speaker 3: Yep, yes, yeah. So anyway, it was really interesting. I
- 48:37Speaker 3: was talking at me like I think it was like
- 48:40Speaker 3: Apple TV.
- 48:41Speaker 1: So I was listening to something on ABC Radio the
- 48:43Speaker 1: other day because I'm a million years old, and they
- 48:45Speaker 1: were talking about how there is an argument about being
- 48:48Speaker 1: able to bring the Thilo scene the Tasmanian tiger back
- 48:51Speaker 1: from the dead would actually be good for the environment
- 48:54Speaker 1: in Tasmania for exactly that reason, because I believe that
- 48:57Speaker 1: they have I don't know, I missed the beginning of it.
- 49:00Speaker 1: It's like, do we have the technology to bring the
- 49:01Speaker 1: Tasmanian tiger back from the dead, But they were sort
- 49:04Speaker 1: of talking about too much money. But the argument is
- 49:07Speaker 1: there that it would be incredibly beneficial for the environment
- 49:10Speaker 1: because of this apex predator thing and.
- 49:14Speaker 2: The dinosaurs back.
- 49:15Speaker 1: While they're at it, Well, we saw how that worked
- 49:17Speaker 1: out in Jurassic Park.
- 49:19Speaker 3: Jurassic Park that wasn't a documentary, but.
- 49:22Speaker 1: Close little ones, the t rexes is that a t
- 49:26Speaker 1: rex is acute, little one, I think, yeah, well, they
- 49:32Speaker 1: could just rip your head off with their with their
- 49:35Speaker 1: they don't need hands to destroy you. Okay, So this
- 49:38Speaker 1: week I've got a challenge for all dribblers. The two
- 49:41Speaker 1: hour barrier in marathon running has just been broken one hour,
- 49:46Speaker 1: fifty nine minutes and forty one seconds by Sebastian Sawhere.
- 49:50Speaker 1: The women's in the same was two hours, fifteen minutes
- 49:53Speaker 1: and forty one So dribblers get out there, run really
- 49:57Speaker 1: fast for forty two kilometers and report back to us.
- 50:00Speaker 1: I think that's a reasonable challenge for.
- 50:03Speaker 2: The weak business if they survive.
- 50:04Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, they survive. We did have Shanna from New
- 50:08Speaker 1: Zealand send me a photo of her and her sister
- 50:11Speaker 1: have silver ferns tattoos. So it's not a super netball
- 50:15Speaker 1: club tattoo, but it's it's pretty good. So I've got
- 50:18Speaker 1: some follow up questions for Shanna and hope to report
- 50:20Speaker 1: back on those. But they look like they're a lot
- 50:22Speaker 1: of fun those girls.
- 50:24Speaker 3: There you go, Coxick could make them tattoo for tattoo.
- 50:28Speaker 2: I technically do have the diamonds one on my neck.
- 50:30Speaker 2: What do you mean tattoo? Yeah, well it's the little star.
- 50:34Speaker 2: It's the star. It's in the logo. It's not the logo,
- 50:37Speaker 2: you know how. The star is a certain kind of star, Okay,
- 50:41Speaker 2: like constellation looking thingage year.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Okay, I do have it on a net alight.
- 50:47Speaker 3: Very good.
- 50:47Speaker 1: Well, kind, I did say not people who've won a
- 50:50Speaker 1: premiership or a World Cup with a team, but just fans.
- 50:53Speaker 1: We were looking for someone who could match the Broncos fan.
- 50:56Speaker 2: All right.
- 50:57Speaker 1: I think we have descended into even more carelessness than
- 51:00Speaker 1: the finger bun discussion. So I'm going to wrap it up.
- 51:03Speaker 1: Don't forget to get your tips in. Buy tickets for
- 51:06Speaker 1: the pariouth event on the fifth of June. Have a
- 51:09Speaker 1: great week, rug up, stay safe, take your arm afore
- 51:12Speaker 1: sum Carol and swindle.
- 51:13Speaker 2: Oh and a Nepple starts this week, what does for us?
- 51:15Speaker 2: So good luck to everybody with the junior seasons. I
- 51:18Speaker 2: know we said that last week, but we all officially
- 51:20Speaker 2: start this week.
- 51:20Speaker 1: That's exciting.
- 51:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm Cathuly Days, I'm Fellas. I have a great week.
