- 0:08There are rules to surviving a horror movie. Don't split up. Don't investigate the noise.
- 0:14And never say, "I'll be right back." Here, three friends break down the scares, the kills,
- 0:22the monsters, and the terrible decisions that got everyone there in the first place.
- 0:28We rate the scares. We roast the victims. And we ask the important question, would we survive? So
- 0:38dim the lights, pour the drinks, and prepare for spoilers. This is the Scarier Things Club.
- 0:50Hello. Welcome back. Episode two of the Scarier Things Club. We're so excited to be back. Um,
- 0:56we're excited that you're here with us. Um, we're going to kind of do similar stuff today. We're
- 1:03talking about the movie Alien from 1979. Um, we have lots of lots of ideas or lots of uh thoughts
- 1:11on it. So, but before we get into that, we'll get into our what do you bring to the club today? So,
- 1:16we've got another delicious round of drinks here. Mark, you want to tell us about what you brought
- 1:21today? Yes. This is the Nostromo breakfast latte. They uh they like to eat breakfast on the ship.
- 1:27Yeah. And so a lot of cereal consumed on that ship. Yes. Lots of cereal. And and Yeah. So,
- 1:34and we're talking about the movie Alien. I don't know if we said that yet. Yes,
- 1:36we did. Oh, okay. Sorry. Um anyway, so this is the Nostromo breakfast latte. What this is,
- 1:42it's cereal milk that's been mixed in. Uh we used uh was it Dino Bites? Coco Dino. Coco Dino Bites.
- 1:49It's one of those bag like malto meal. Oh yeah. You know, cheap cheaper one cereals. Those are so
- 1:56good. I feel like they put more flavor in those. I think so, too. Um I used to call them dog bags.
- 2:01Dog bags or like dog food. Dog food cereal. They do kind of look like it sometimes. Yeah. Yeah. Um
- 2:07if you were on board the Nestromo, what cereal would you like would be on it? Cinnamon Toast
- 2:12Crunch every time. Really? That is a good one. Think about that. That's my number one. Yeah.
- 2:16But I like a Cocoa Pebbles type. I do love Cocoa Pebbles cuz it's the two in one, right? It's the
- 2:21cocoa pebbles and then it's the chocolate milk. And the milk. Yep. I think I would have to say
- 2:24Lucky Charms. I am a sucker for some Lucky Charms and the marshmallows. That would hold up well in
- 2:30space, I think. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, the marshmallows would never get like They would always stay like
- 2:35Cuz they're already hard. Yeah. Crunchy and stuff. I do have a question though. So, you brewed this
- 2:40cereal milk at home? [laughter] Yes. Walk me through that process. I've been dying to ask
- 2:45you. Oh, yeah. So, you just basically I poured the milk into a pitcher and then I [snorts] put I put
- 2:52uh a few uh and and the pitcher had this like built-in kind of filter on the lid. Yeah. So,
- 2:59then I put the pieces of cereal in there. Oh, I stirred it up. And the great thing about Coco
- 3:04Dino Bites, originally last night when I tested this, I I put some in a cup, put it in the fridge,
- 3:09and let it sit for like 20 minutes. But you really don't have to do that. You can just put
- 3:13it in the pitcher, put the cocoa dino bites in there, stir it up, and it imparts the chocolate
- 3:19into that milk really quickly. Really? Oh, so it turns your cereal. It turns your cereal pretty
- 3:24quickly. That's what I love about that cereal. [laughter] Yeah. And then I just, you know,
- 3:27put poured it back. I got a funnel, poured it back into the milk jug. Okay. That it was in. And then
- 3:31just put that in the fridge. Wow. And did you have to like strain out the cereal? Well, like I said,
- 3:36the pitcher actually had a little grate thing. Oh, you just put the cereal. Oh, no. I see what you're
- 3:41saying. Yeah. And so it filtered it filtered it out. What about the cereal that like you left
- 3:45in there for 20 minutes? Was that like a mushy mess? Oh, yes. Yes, I did. I I had used I used
- 3:52a a cheesecloth to to [laughter] strain that one and that was not fun. I made a I made a little bit
- 3:59of a mess last night. Oh my gosh. I love the commitment to it though. Yeah. Oh yeah. With
- 4:03a cheesecloth. I don't even know why we have a cheesecloth. I bought cheesecloth. It was I did it
- 4:08I did it originally to make my own tzaziki sauce. Oh, yummy. Cuz why not? Why Why would you Why
- 4:14would you just buy at the store what you can spend a lot of money on ingredients? Well, yeah. I mean,
- 4:20it's it's it's better when it's fresh. I'm sure it is, but we don't eat enough. What I'm saying
- 4:24is I [laughter] don't we don't eat enough tzaziki sauce to warrant. I mean, to be fair, but I mean,
- 4:29it's your trouble, so if you want to do it. Yeah. I mean, yeah, to be fair, I did it once. I'm not
- 4:33going to yuck your yum, I guess. several years ago and ever since then I've just bought it.
- 4:37So yeah. Yeah. So if that tells you anything, but that cheesecloth has lasted forever. I've used it
- 4:42several times. Not the same piece of cheesecloth, but it's like a really piece of cheesecloth. Wait,
- 4:48is it like a single use only? Yeah. Yeah. Cheesecloth. Mhm. Is it like in a roll of paper
- 4:53towel? Like paper towel? Yeah, it comes in a roll. And it's it's a I mean I'm I'm pretty sure you
- 5:00can't reuse it. I've never used it. I always just throw it away. I thought it was like a different
- 5:05type of like dish towel. Uh, no. I guess not. So, because like I think if you're making for example
- 5:11like mozzarella and you squeeze the water out or whatever, I think it's done for at that point. I
- 5:18don't think you can wash it and reuse it. No, you you definitely can't. Not to my knowledge. You
- 5:22can't re because it's so it's so uh frail. Yeah, it's a very fine fibers. And if anybody watching
- 5:30is super familiar with cheesecloth, they're like, "You fools." Like you can't reuse a cheese cloth,
- 5:36but I've never used. Hey, but hey, [laughter] to those people, hey, I assumed you couldn't,
- 5:40you know. So, yeah, you were right. I was the dummy. Yeah. Um I really just really quickly this
- 5:47tzaziki sauce, what were you having to use the cheesecloth for? Uh so to strain the water out
- 5:51of the cucumber pieces. Oh, okay. Yeah, cuz you don't want it too too loose, too liquidy. Okay.
- 5:58I was thinking like the dill or something, but the cucumber makes sense. Mhm. Lovely. Okay. Um, how
- 6:04did we get here? You were using cheesecloth for your cereal [laughter] milk. Yeah, for my cereal
- 6:09milk. I was cuz I needed to pour it into another container and I had to filter that mush out. Were
- 6:14you having to like do that over a bowl to catch the milk? I actually was using, this is going to
- 6:21sound crazy, I was actually using like a I had a little glass bottle that I cuz I I had done
- 6:25like some No wonder you made a mess. Well, I had a funnel. Okay, that's better. But, you know, the
- 6:32the hole on the bottle he's talking about is like this big. I mean, I can imagine I would have like
- 6:36done it into a bowl. I went through I went through a short period. [laughter] I went through a short
- 6:42period where I was making my own coffee syrup this and so you know Yeah, you were making cough
- 6:49syrups. No, coffee syrups. Oh, no. For the record Tha't's a different kind of podcast [laughter]
- 6:57I could make some cough syrup. I mean, probably. Yeah. Okay, I'm I'm tracking now. Very cool. Well,
- 7:04so we have our lattes. Before we drink them, shall we do our our toast? Do it.
- 7:08Okay. To friendship, bad ideas, and great stories. [laughter] I'll get better at that.
- 7:20Oh, yeah. It's chocolate and coffee. What's wrong? What could be wrong with that? Yeah. Mmm. That is
- 7:28so sweet. Mhm. Yeah. I may have put a little too much uh artificial. [snorts] We used the
- 7:34sugar-free vanilla on this one. Might have put just a touch too much. I do taste that,
- 7:38but it's good. Mhm. I'm into it by now because like I use sugar-free in like almost everything
- 7:44if I can if that's a choice for me. Yeah. So, I'll often and to other people like a diet Dr. Pepper
- 7:50and a Dr. Pepper don't taste the same. Like you'd be able to immediately tell probably, but I'll get
- 7:56one cuz I haven't had the real deal in a long time. So, I'll be like, "Can you test this for
- 8:01me?" And it's like, "Diet Dr. Pepper is not that bad." That's one that you can do. Okay. Yeah, I
- 8:06can actually drink that. But if I have like a Coke and a Diet Coke, which they're totally different,
- 8:11but there are times when I'm like, "Is this diet?" I don't know cuz I haven't had a Coke in a very,
- 8:16very long time. So, I'll be like, "Can you please test this?" And he's like, [sighs and gasps] I'm
- 8:21pretty sure it is diet. Cuz he hates Diet Coke. Hate it. But I love it. I put that right into
- 8:26my veins. I love it. What is it about Diet Coke, people who drink Diet Coke are like die hard like
- 8:33we'll drink it until they die? I don't know. And I think in my experience, you're also either a
- 8:39Diet Coke person or a Coke Zero person. I don't like Coke Zero, but the people I know who like
- 8:44Coke Zero don't like Diet Coke. Right. No, Alek will go through like seven cans of Coke Zero
- 8:49in a day. Yeah, it's excessive. I've gotten to where it's okay in a can. I hate it in a bottle.
- 8:57Well, really any sodas out of a can. Like can is superior. Absolutely. Any day fountain number one.
- 9:04It depends on the fountain though. I feel like McDonald's fountain. McDonald's fountain is great.
- 9:09Absolutely. Yeah. Those freestyle machines. This is a public service announce announcement to all
- 9:14you companies out there that use those. Those are nasty. Please stop. Oh, it's like Wendy's. Yeah.
- 9:19Wendy's Firehouse has them where you can put all the different flavors in. Like, don't give people
- 9:23that. They taste horrible. Go to Sonic if that's what you want. Mhm. Mhm. But yeah, I we are a zero
- 9:31like soda household. Like we drink soda, make no mistake, we drink soda, but like Dr. Pepper Zero
- 9:38and Coke Zero for sure. Dr. Pepper Zero was good. I like that. I try to like It's my little treat at
- 9:43dinner time. Like Dr. Pepper Zero, or else I would go like probably really crazy with it and drink
- 9:49a lot and not drink water and just cease to drink water. Um yeah, I there's water in it. It's number
- 9:55one ingredient. That's what Alek would say, too. [laughter] He's like, "I do drink water, babe."
- 10:02as he cracks open. I mean, it'll be like 7 like we'll be getting ready for work at like 6:30 in
- 10:06the morning, and I hear Well, I mean, it's better than a lot of people's coffee orders cuz at least
- 10:11it's sugar-free. That is true. That is true. Um, anyway, that that is I like this latte. Yeah, it's
- 10:17good. I am tasting I am tasting the high volume of syrup in it now. like the the after. [laughter] I
- 10:26am I am detecting it now, but the the components are really good. Yeah. Good. Good. Good. Yeah,
- 10:32we're a fan. We're a fan for sure. All right. So, you know, today we're talking about Alien. Um,
- 10:40which was a random choice. Um, and but exciting in a way because at the time that we're recording
- 10:47this, the what company is it? Is it the CIA? What what company? What company? A part of the
- 10:52government. branch of the government. [laughter] The government, it's the CIA. I think it was the
- 10:57CIA like just declassified a whole bunch of like UFO documents. Yeah. Um basically it's like the
- 11:05government is like saying it's our version of the ali alien experience of like I'm not saying
- 11:13that there's aliens, but I'm not not saying that there's aliens. And then there's like major side
- 11:19eye. You know what I mean? Oh yeah. Yeah. Um, but there's like tons of I haven't gone through them
- 11:23all. Mostly because this is one of my worst fears are aliens. Um, from like a young age. I think
- 11:31it's because my brother-in-law is like really obsessed with aliens. And so every time I'd be
- 11:36over at my sister's house, he was like watching Ancient Aliens. Oh. And I just was like, "They're
- 11:41going to get me. They're going to get me." I don't know why I think I'm so important that like all of
- 11:45these villains and like these clowns and these aliens are going to come get me. You were the
- 11:49main character in your own story. So, right. Yeah. How could you not [clears throat] think that way?
- 11:53Thank you for saying that. Um, and so, like, I remember being at church one night and some guy
- 12:01came up to me and he was like, now I heard there was a UFO over by the Fayetteville Mall and this
- 12:05little girl with glasses and brown bangs. She went missing. And I'm like, that's what I look
- 12:11like. No. I literally had to sleep with my mom. What man? Some random man? No, just I mean just
- 12:17like a guy at church. Someone I knew. Okay. I'm like, who does that? Okay. And but but why would
- 12:21you do that in general? I don't know. But that's still a fair question, I guess. I mean, it was
- 12:26terrible. And I remember I literally had to sleep with my mom for like a solid week because I was
- 12:31so afraid that an alien was going to come get me. Um, and then we went to watch the Lemony Snicket A
- 12:37Series of Unfortunate Events, like when it came out in theaters and like the Tom Cruise War of
- 12:42the Worlds preview came out and I literally like almost threw up like cuz I was so scared. And so I
- 12:50am proud of myself cuz I'm handling this news very well. But little Shannon would have just ceased
- 12:55to exist. Like I just would have keeled over and died. I haven't looked at any of it. I didn't even
- 13:02know it was happening. I haven't seen memes. I haven't seen a thing. But Mark mentioned it like,
- 13:06"Oh, we're watching this and all the alien stuff is coming out." And I was like, "There's alien
- 13:11stuff." And I guess I need to look at it cuz I have always been a person of like I have no belief
- 13:19in aliens at all. Zero. Mhm. Um, so which is weird for me cuz usually I'm always like maybe there's
- 13:27a little truth to something in there. But like for with aliens I've always just been like nah
- 13:32I don't think that's a thing. So I need to look at it and see what what evidence is out there what I
- 13:38can make sense of or not. I feel like from what I've seen it's just a lot of UFOs which they've
- 13:43also have changed the name and it's like unauthor- or do you know what it is? It's like unidentified
- 13:49flying object. Well, is there a different name for it now? Yeah, I think they were doing more like
- 13:54politically correct. I don't know. It's like something something with an A in it. Anyway,
- 13:59I should have looked that up. But um so saying like it's not it could be human. It could be earth
- 14:06an earth object. They just don't know. But they're just saying like they do not know what it is. Oh,
- 14:12okay. And but I'm like, okay, well, can we talk to other countries and like figure out their
- 14:18stuff? Cuz like this affects them, too. I think I've come to a point to where I'm like, well,
- 14:22the universe is so I mean, it's the universe, right? It's like eternal and never ending,
- 14:27whatever. And I'm like, surely God could have like thrown in some aliens in there if he wanted to and
- 14:32just not tell us. Well, and that's the thing, like we don't have to get like super deep into it, but
- 14:37like we're all Christians at this table, so that's going to color our worldview, especially on things
- 14:41of space in the [laughter] universe. But like that was one of the reasons I was like I have no belief
- 14:46in it because you know our belief of God creating us to have relationship with him and sending Jesus
- 14:54to die for us. Like did Jesus go to Mars? Did you like the aliens? Are they just creatures that have
- 15:01no purpose? That doesn't seem like the God that I've studied or like the characteristics of God
- 15:06that I know. Right. And so that's why I couldn't I couldn't rationalize that and make sense of
- 15:12it with my belief in scripture. And so I was like, "Oh, I think it's probably not real." Um,
- 15:17not [clears throat] to say that he couldn't. It's just not there's nothing that would have
- 15:23swayed me to think that, but I'm always open to listening. No, I do appreciate that. Um, that does
- 15:31bring me some peace a little bit. [laughter] Helps helps dampen the fear a little bit.
- 15:36Um, but yeah, so that was just kind of like a a funny a funny timing of like us picking this movie
- 15:43or like it getting picked for us and then like recent events. Yeah. Yeah. That's what I bring to
- 15:49the club today. Aliens may or may not be real. But also, you know, is the government just trying to
- 15:56push our attention elsewhere? Slight hand. Yeah, I think so, too. think that could be it because
- 16:01they had how many years that they've had all this information like that everybody's been wonder like
- 16:08you know during uh was it during covid that people were storming Area 51. Yeah, I think so. You could
- 16:16have you know made everybody safer and said all right here's what we got on aliens. You don't have
- 16:22to do this. This is a government restricted zone. Please do not put your life in danger by trying to
- 16:27get past these walls. Right. Here's what we got. They could have done that. They could have, but
- 16:31they're like, "We're gonna But now it's got to be beneficial to somebody to divert your attention to
- 16:37this." Yeah. Yeah. I'm always like have no belief in aliens, but totally believe that the government
- 16:45is trash. And will do we'll do anything to make themselves look like they're completely Oh, 100%
- 16:52transparency, you know. Absolutely. Then Yeah. But but we've been asking for the JFK file the
- 16:56full JFK files for how long since it happened and then they're like files girl. Have you not gone
- 17:03down the JFK conspiracy rabbit hole? I know that people think that the government did it. Yeah. I
- 17:09think I I definitely think there was some hinky stuff there for sure. I don't think it was just
- 17:13some I don't think it was what they told us it was or who they told us it was. The Oswald guy. Okay.
- 17:18We'll have to discuss this. I'll need to uh I need to know more. I know about the I was thinking the
- 17:23Epstein files. Well, that too. I mean, there are so many things that people are like,
- 17:27"Just tell us." Yeah. Like, "We can't. It'll bring the whole thing down." Like, "Bring it down. Burn
- 17:31it. Burn it to the ground." Yeah. But no, we'll tell you about aliens. Yeah. But we're not going
- 17:36to tell you that they're there, but Right. There might be aliens, but there also might not be. I'm
- 17:42not saying there is. I'm not saying it's aliens. So, but there's probably aliens. There probably
- 17:46aliens. So, that's [laughter] what I bring to the table. That's what I bring to the club today. Um,
- 17:51so we'll we'll get right into it. Um Mark, you seemed really excited about this movie. So tell
- 17:56us about it. Yeah, so this movie is uh basically it opens up uh aboard the Nostromo, which is this
- 18:05massive industrial uh towing vessel that's uh hauling cargo through deep space. And everyone
- 18:12is in this hyper sleep. They're unexpectedly, you know, woken up by their their ship's AI
- 18:19essentially. And the reason is because it received a distress signal and according to company policy,
- 18:26they have to go investigate it or they don't get paid. Mhm. And so they wake up, they're looking
- 18:32at the radar, they say, "What's going on? I don't even see Earth on the map." And so then they go
- 18:38to the ship's AI tells them there's this distress signal. So they go investigate it on this planet.
- 18:43Uh they through some bad choices, somebody gets in basically infected and they bring it back
- 18:52aboard the ship. And so um trapped on their own ship and isolated with nowhere to run,
- 19:00nowhere to hide. Uh they are picked off one by one by this alien creature that they know nothing
- 19:05about in space where no one can hear you scream. [laughter] That was like my biggest fear about
- 19:11going from like apartment living to a house, especially like overnight when I'm by myself,
- 19:15is like no one can hear me scream. When you were in the apartment, now this is not alien related
- 19:21at all. But do you think if you had screamed, somebody would have come and reported it? Cuz if
- 19:25I heard somebody scream, I don't know if I would This is the world we live in. Like I don't know
- 19:29if I would do anything like I don't want to get involved. Yeah, I would hope so. I mean, I didn't
- 19:34know my neighbor. Maybe you'd call and say, "Hey, there might be a problem." Maybe you'd call the
- 19:38police. Maybe somebody would call the police or I heard a scream. Especially if it's like something
- 19:42that like doesn't like if we typically don't scream. You know what I mean? Yeah. If you're
- 19:46the loud neighbors all the time, right? Yeah. But I would hope that's a good question. I would hope
- 19:52cuz you know now we live in the world of like this terrible thing is happening or somebody
- 19:56you know I think about when I was teaching and there'd be fights or whatever and people your
- 20:02immediate reaction for a lot of people is just like film it [laughter] instead of help, right?
- 20:08So, I don't know if it's like similar, but that's also, you know, undeveloped brains. But, I mean,
- 20:13I would hope that adult, but a lot of adults are the same way. Yeah. I don't know. Um, that's a
- 20:19good thought. At the time, I didn't consider that. I thought surely somebody will [laughter] help me.
- 20:24You have faith in humanity. I like that about you. Limited faith in humanity. It's dwindling,
- 20:29I think, day by day. Um, but anyway, now in a house for sure. No one's Yeah. Tim and Dana
- 20:34aren't coming to help me out here for sure. Yeah. Anyway, so yes, they are in deep space. No one can
- 20:40hear them scream. That's the worst. That is the worst. Were they able to communicate at all with
- 20:46Earth? No. [sighs and gasps] What were they out there towing? You ever know? No, we don't ever
- 20:52find. I don't think so. Well, they tried to talk to Antarctica at one point cuz remember
- 20:58I was like I didn't think they [laughter] were I certainly weren't even in Antarctica. I didn't.
- 21:02That's okay. That's what I was like, are there is it inhabited continent? Say that's a fascinating
- 21:08rabbit hole. Yes, there are like stations down there. Okay. So, there are people down there,
- 21:13but they don't like there are not communities of there wouldn't be cities of like I don't know if
- 21:18I'd call it a city, but I mean they have amenities for the people that live and work down there,
- 21:22but people aren't posting up there raising their children. Generations of people there probably.
- 21:26No, I wouldn't say so. I mean, I think they even have a church down there. What? Well, I mean,
- 21:30if you're going to send people, I would think you would have to have Yeah. something for, you know,
- 21:34they probably have a handful. I remember going like Google Maps and kind of looking at stuff
- 21:38down there cuz I was like, "Oh, wow. I didn't know that was there." Okay. Huh. So, I thought there
- 21:42was just like penguins and stuff down there. I think they I think they do have those down there.
- 21:47Great. But also people. And also people. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. And penguins are like the people of
- 21:54the the birds. Yeah. They walk on two feet. Oh, [laughter] I was like trying to follow that train
- 22:01of thought because they're adorable, but I I I finally got there and they wear clothes. They have
- 22:07little tuxedo. Oh, so proper. If there's any bird that I will accept, it's a penguin. I mean, like,
- 22:14I wouldn't want to touch it or be around it, but it is kind of cute. You wouldn't touch a penguin.
- 22:19I don't know. They are cute. They're really cute. And I never would say that about a bird, but they
- 22:24are cute. Like a parakeet. Not even a parakeet. Absolutely [clears throat] not. I think the
- 22:28problem is that like a bird is so unpredictable. They're very skittish [laughter] and so like
- 22:33they'll be flapping around and then they'll just get you. Okay. I used to have parakeets when I was
- 22:39younger. I accidentally stepped on one one time, [gasps] but she lived. It's okay. She survived.
- 22:45But it like messed me up. Like my mom had to go in to my teacher and be like, "Shannon's okay,
- 22:50but she she did step on her bird this morning." No. Oh, I had a a classmate when I was in like
- 22:57sixth grade. She had birds. Mhm. And freaking Elizabeth and her mom brought this bird into the
- 23:06classroom. My teacher thought it would be a good like thing for all of us to experience this live
- 23:10animal just run free around the classroom. I'm standing on a chair. No, [gasps] their pet bird.
- 23:18She just sat it down and it's just going and I was like I can't be here. And then I when I taught
- 23:26this is only birds are aliens are your fear, birds are my fear. Like when I taught around, you know,
- 23:32around Easter time, the tractor supply stores will have baby chicks and whatever. Yeah. So,
- 23:37one of our administrators brought a couple in just like sits it on the ground in a room full
- 23:43of teenagers. I'm like, "This is about to be a gruesome scene because they are going to be
- 23:49running around." How many chicks? Two. Okay. And it was a small class size cuz I was teaching an
- 23:54alternative environment, but like Yeah. It I was like, "You got to get me out of here." There was
- 24:01only one door and he was standing in front of it. Yeah. Did you get or did I just have to like No,
- 24:05I just cry in the corner. I had [clears throat] to be a defiant, disrespectful employee and say,
- 24:09"Please get that thing away from me and I don't enjoy this right now. This is my panic
- 24:14zone. Okay. Yeah. I don't feel safe. That's funny. That was totally I don't even know how
- 24:18um we just went down that it happens. You know, this is the beauty of having you Beth on the
- 24:26on the mic with me is that you will just follow. Listen, I was whenever I brought the idea of this
- 24:31podcast to the like our little text, I was like everyone's going to think this is dumb. I just was
- 24:37hoping that they would like really just kind of like shoot it down and so I could get the idea out
- 24:41of my head and they got the wrong girl [laughter] and I said, "Okay." Yeah. Why not? Here we are. I
- 24:48don't know how we got to birds, though. I can't even think of how Yeah, I don't I don't really
- 24:56Antarctica. Antarctica penguins. There. There it is. Going going back. Going back research bases.
- 25:02Have you heard Benedict Cumberbatch try to say, is that his name? Did I say his name? Cumberbatch.
- 25:07Okay. Yeah. Each time he says it, he says it different. Yeah. Penguins. Penguins. [laughter]
- 25:12And he says it so many times. He has a poor man. Yeah. Yeah. It's cute though. I love him. I think
- 25:20he he seems like a cool person to talk to. He seems like he'd be very down to earth. Yeah.
- 25:24Yeah. We should. I don't know. If he ever wants to come on the show, that would be so cool. Well,
- 25:30we'd be here. All two of our episodes that we Yes. posted. But anyway, Antarctica, they tried to talk
- 25:37to Antarctica, so they could communicate with Earth, but no, Earth didn't talk back. Right.
- 25:41Right. Right. Cuz they were too far away. Too far away. You think that was intentional? Oh,
- 25:45you know what? I bet that was intentional. Oh, yeah. So, all right. I know one of the things we
- 25:52said that we don't really talk about the director, and I'm not going to talk about the director in at
- 25:57length or anything, but the director was Ridley Scott. And the important the reason I mention it
- 26:01is because he was not a horror director. Okay. And so what makes this interesting is that he
- 26:09approached this in a way when actually the writers themselves but they approached this in a way that
- 26:16they wanted to have reasons for everything almost. And [snorts] so for example you like we we watch
- 26:23a lot of horror movies and a lot of times we're yelling at the screen like why are you walking in?
- 26:26That's so stupid. Why are you doing that? Yeah. In this movie, there are times when, you know,
- 26:32like for example, when the distress signal comes. Now, in your typical horror movie, they probably
- 26:35like, "Let's go see what that is and then just go blindly do it." With these guys, there's a
- 26:40struggle. Yeah. Cuz they don't want to. They make it clear they don't want to. And the only reason
- 26:45they're going is because they want to get paid. Yeah. And so there's one reason there. And then,
- 26:50of course, when you have the there was a dumb decision where the guy basically poked his head
- 26:55in a alien egg. Yeah. and then got a face hugger and they went back to the ship and then Ripley of
- 27:02course was like, "Hey, yeah, no, no, you have to quarantine. You're not getting back on this
- 27:08ship." So, here we have a decision. And we think it's stupid at the time where Ash uh you know,
- 27:15he actually goes and opens the door. He disobeys the order and opens it. And you might be thinking,
- 27:20"Hey, that's really stupid. Why did you do that?" But then you later find out he had motive. Yeah.
- 27:26And so it's really cool to see how they approach this where they gave a lot of things reason
- 27:32and so forth. So I like Thank you for saying that because I like wasn't too impressed with
- 27:41this movie until listening to you describe that. [clears throat] Yeah. And that's the thing like I
- 27:46I can absolutely understand this. This is uh one thing that is impressive to me is that it's 47
- 27:51years old and that you know Whoa. Exactly. So, how old is Sigourney Weaver? That's a good question.
- 28:00Whoa. You could probably look that up. Yeah. But talk amongst yourselves. I'm [laughter] But yeah,
- 28:05so that and the thing is like I've And one thing that I've experienced that you guys probably
- 28:10haven't I'm assuming you guys didn't watch any uh science fiction horror before 1979. No. Can't say.
- 28:18And so this movie was Say what? Science fiction horror before 1979. No, I don't watch science
- 28:24fiction horror period. Exactly. So So [laughter] what you what you didn't see is that the massive
- 28:30change that this was. I can only imagine what it was like in 1979 to walk in the theater and
- 28:36see this because it is nothing like the movies that were before it. It is so much more dark and
- 28:43gritty. Yeah. and just the attention to detail. And I really think it was because Ridley Scott
- 28:50was not a horror director and he went into this, he approached it with a much different mindset.
- 28:54Okay. And so there's just so much detail, so much atmosphere. Yeah. As opposed to what came before
- 29:01it. And so yeah, that's that's one of the reasons like I really appreciate this film just because it
- 29:07was so groundbreaking at the time. I can imagine. So, have you seen any sci-fi movies that like were
- 29:14filmed before this? Oh, yeah. And so, like what what titles come to mind? Maybe I need to watch
- 29:21that for like some appreciation. Yeah. So, like uh The Day the Earth Stood Still, I think that would
- 29:28be a good one um to mention. But like so a lot of those older movies like that. Yeah. the, you know,
- 29:35the enemy or the monster or the aliens, they were, you know, of course, if you go back and watch
- 29:40it now, it's not very scary. Okay. Uh, a lot of times they were slow moving or if it were aliens,
- 29:46you know, they had their flying saucers, they had their death rays, which if they shot you with a
- 29:50death ray, you pretty much vaporized, which to me sounds pretty painless. Whereas, if you encounter,
- 29:57you know, if you encounter this alien, you're basically ripped limb from limb. You're eaten
- 30:01up for sure. Yeah. You're going to meet a horrible horrible death if you run into this thing. Yeah.
- 30:06And so the alien itself was massively different than what anybody had ever seen before. What kind
- 30:12of Did you have a something to add? Sigourney Weaver is 76 years old. Whoa. It has a movie
- 30:18coming out in 2031. Avatar 5. Avatar. She's still I didn't realize they had that many of those. Why
- 30:25are they making all these Avatar movies? I've only seen the first one. It was a beautiful movie, but
- 30:29I didn't care about them because maybe I should rewatch it again cuz I just did not care. No,
- 30:33they're so long. But that's a side note. Wow. What were you going to say? Um, so what movies
- 30:40did this director direct before Alien? I don't know the name of it. I think this may have been,
- 30:47and you might want to fact check me on this, I think this was his second movie, and the first
- 30:50one was like a period piece. Okay. Of some sort. Wow. Um, so yeah, he's a pretty uh Okay. Oh,
- 30:57he's I heard the name. He is prolific. U So he had only Yeah. done one movie before it,
- 31:02The Duelist in 1977. Yes, that was it. But he's also done movies like Bladerunner, um Gladiator.
- 31:10Oh, cool. Some big big movies. Okay. So, some range then. Yeah. So, let me go and tell you
- 31:16the director. Blackhawk Down. A phenomenal movie, by the way. I don't watch war movies, but sure.
- 31:21Okay. I didn't know you don't like war movies. War movies. movies about um animals, movies about
- 31:27people with uh terminal illness, movies about people with mental uh disability. I don't watch
- 31:33any of that. so just comedy, romance, and horror. I mean, mostly just horror, but I will watch the
- 31:38other things. I also really hate war movies. Yeah. I mean, you know, people are going to die. It's
- 31:44sad. I don't care about the gore, but it it breaks my heart and I don't want to be sad. I can be sad
- 31:48for free. I don't need to pay to be sad. Preach. Okay. Anyway, sorry. Anyway, so anyway, it's
- 31:53it's that's fun. Uh, so I will go ahead and tell you this. The the sequel, Aliens, plural. Yeah.
- 32:00Directed by James Cameron. And that's Avatar? That's Titanic. It's Titanic. Titanic. Oh, yeah. I
- 32:06don't I don't know movies. Have you seen Titanic? I saw it at one point. What? Oh my god. Okay. My
- 32:14You remember this? Yes. My trait uh when I was in junior high, there were a lot of signs. Okay. But
- 32:22one that I bet people were like something ain't right with her. I went through a really weird,
- 32:28really intense Titanic phase. Okay. To where I would watch it all the time. I could quote the
- 32:34three-hour movie. Yeah. And I I mean, what teenage girl is not obsessed with Leonardo DiCaprio? But
- 32:40I was immune from that thing. What? Really? Yeah. He has never done one single thing for me. What?
- 32:45Yep. Not even Jack Dawson. Never. Oh my gosh. Wow. Anyway, I went through a really I bet my I bet my
- 32:54parents were worried. They should have been. They should still be. I mean, you're young enough. Not
- 32:59anymore, but Right. Yeah. No, looking back, I'm like, yeah. Um, [clears throat] do I have it?
- 33:05Did you [laughter] did you get into that just the movie or did you also look into the real event,
- 33:14the history? I think a little bit into like the event and the history, but um just really into
- 33:21the movie. Okay. Scarily into the movie. And I don't want to take anything away from like
- 33:29I'm going to be you can you can real talk. Yeah. Yeah. You know how we said the wheel
- 33:36whatever fate decides whatever you suffer. Yes. I do feel like I suffered. This movie was a
- 33:42suffering [laughter] for me. I didn't enjoy like anything about it. To be fair, I don't like alien
- 33:50movies. I don't care anything about aliens. I don't like sci-fi, any of that. Okay. So,
- 33:54this was just not a movie for me. I'm not their target demographic. Okay. Yeah. The story I will
- 34:01give you once I understood when Mark explained it to me because I couldn't understand like probably
- 34:0640-50% of the dialogue cuz they were talking so fast. Did you watch the subtitles? I should
- 34:12have. Yeah, but I usually don't have to. So I was like, the audio is bad, blah blah blah blah. And
- 34:20it was like Yeah. Anyway, but I mean the sets are impressive for the time. I mean really the sets
- 34:28are very detailed even for a movie now, you know, but like so but Star Wars, the original Star Wars,
- 34:35those sets are also super impressive. And that movie was before this one. So, I mean, they would
- 34:41have been in production probably. It's not like they copied it, but Well, Alien exists because of
- 34:46Star Wars. Oh, well then maybe they did. So, I was going to say I don't want to take anything away
- 34:49from it, but like No, Star Star Star Star Wars Star Wars definitely led the way for the change in
- 34:56science fiction movies. It's just where this one comes in is science fiction horror because it's
- 35:03definitely gritty, graphic compared to what came before it. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Yeah. But I mean,
- 35:11I was like, [sighs] I think they could use this movie to diagnose people with ADHD because it
- 35:16was seven minutes before one single word was said and I was over it. I was like, where is the alien?
- 35:23I would like him to kill all of these people. [laughter] I was on the alien side. We didn't
- 35:27even see the alien until like the only thing that I was like, if the alien kills this cat,
- 35:33I'm [snorts] switching teams. He could have taken every human on that ship. Darn near did.
- 35:38Like but I was like whatever. But that cat, if he had touched that cat, me and that alien was
- 35:43about to tie up. And that cat, you did get a jump scare. I did at the end closer to the end. No,
- 35:51it got me when uh Dallas was in the when it got Dallas. Oh, I don't even remember exactly what
- 35:56happened. He was in the air vents or whatever. Sad. I liked Dallas. I like Dallas, too. Yeah.
- 36:00But that jump scare got me. Yeah. But also that mechanic where, you know, they're looking at the
- 36:04radar and the thing's getting closer. Oh, that was tense for sure. But also that's been reused
- 36:10several times and like that kind of mechanic like you even see that in Stranger Things where they're
- 36:16tracking the demogorgan. Oh yeah. And so it's it's and what's so brilliant about it, you know, going
- 36:22back to the alien itself, one thing that he didn't Ridley Scott didn't want was he did not want it to
- 36:28be a guy in a suit. But unfortunately uh now they said the animatronics that he wanted for that was
- 36:37not possible. Now I don't know if that means with his budget. That's the thing. I don't know if it
- 36:41meant budget or it just wasn't even possible remotely possible. So they ended up getting a
- 36:45guy who was like 6'10. Whoa. And they put him in this alien costume. But if you notice in the movie
- 36:51a lot of times they don't really show the alien much. Yeah. Right. And so that's why because it's
- 36:57in shadow a lot. It's because he he didn't want it to look like a guy. So he feel like that would
- 37:02take away from it. And so that mechanic where he's on radar that was so tent intense, but also they
- 37:09didn't even have to show the alien for that part. You just kind of see a blip of him during the
- 37:13jump scare. Yeah. And so that was something that was incredibly clever uh for them to do. And and
- 37:19again that also just to explain why a lot of times you don't see in this this particular film, you
- 37:25don't really see the alien very much. It's because they were they were trying to work with what they
- 37:29had with practical special effects. Yeah. Okay. Wow. So, the person who played the he was 6'10,
- 37:37a Nigerian graphic design student in London who was discovered at a local pub by a casting
- 37:43director. So, he's like, "No, not an actor at all, just somebody who fit the build." And they were
- 37:48like, "Hey, can you be in this movie that ended up being huge?" That's really cool. I want that
- 37:52to happen to me. That's cool. Yeah. I would like a large sum of money to just drop in my lap. I mean,
- 37:56I'll work for it a little bit, but like, yeah, a a lump sum. Yeah, that would help me out a lot. Um,
- 38:02I could be your short alien. I could be the like the baby alien. [laughter] So, okay. So,
- 38:09that sequence there and that that I will I will admit that this the effects on that part may not
- 38:15hold up quite as well. Yeah. Uh, in a modern time, but couple interesting facts about that scene.
- 38:22Is this like the the scene? The chest bursting scene. Chest bursting scene. Yes. So again,
- 38:29the director, he did not tell the cast members that that was going to happen. What?
- 38:36So the reactions that he got on that, so you know, highly recommend pulling up that scene on YouTube,
- 38:41go back and watch it. Yeah. The reactions were genuine because now Lambert that's risky. Oh,
- 38:46yeah. So Lambert, uh, the the other female Yeah. I hated her. Well, so whenever whenever
- 38:53that whenever that [laughter] happened most everybody on the ship that's why I was like
- 38:56alien let's go when when that happened if you'll notice the blood shoots out of the guy's chest
- 39:01and sprays her directly in the face and she starts freaking out. That was real. She had no idea that
- 39:09was going to happen. Now I want to go back and watch that scene. And I think they said she even
- 39:12fainted. Um [laughter] the other guy of Ash, which interesting enough is Bilbo Baggins from Lord of
- 39:18the Rings. Um he ended up walking into a wall after that scene just because he was so I guess
- 39:26in his head about it and then he went and gotten to the wrong like he was going to get in his car
- 39:30and go drive and he got into the wrong car. Um it was it messed him up that bad. It messed him
- 39:35up that bad and one of the other crew members had to vomit. Um so that whole scene was you know it's
- 39:42it's funny cuz we go back and we watch it and like oh that looks so fake. Uh but during that time,
- 39:47no one had ever seen anything like that. Even movie goers when they they got to that scene,
- 39:52there was a lot of screaming. There was vomiting in the test audiences. And so [laughter] yeah, so
- 39:59like when I say when I say this is groundbreaking and no one I just can't imagine what it would have
- 40:04been like going into the theater at that time and then seeing something like this. I had made
- 40:08a note of that. Yeah. Like because I mean they must have known that like there was an alien.
- 40:12was going to kill people, but like to the extent of like how that was going to happen. And I mean
- 40:17like I was kind of sitting there like I don't want to see [laughter] it. I don't want to see
- 40:22it. And then but because I knew it was coming like when it happened I was like okay okay that wasn't
- 40:27that bad. But I was thankful only one person died that way. I thought it was like everybody that's
- 40:32how they were going to die. Oh that it was going to like take everybody from the inside out. Yes.
- 40:37That would be rough. And I think I imagine them like looking pregnant or something and like it
- 40:41bursting out of like their stomach. Um, but [snorts] no, I did not know that was coming.
- 40:46But that's super risky. I say because like there are some scenes like especially probably at this
- 40:52time and with these this kind of effects. There are a lot of things on movies it's like you have
- 40:59one shot at this because of the way like it's going to destroy the set or it's going to like
- 41:03you have one prosthetic piece that is like this. So it was pressure. Yeah. To get it on the first
- 41:08take. So if you're depending on everybody else, other like five, six people in the room to not
- 41:15break character. Yeah. Like I wonder if they had a talk of like some unexpected things might happen.
- 41:23Don't break character no matter what. I feel like you have to almost prepare them for some unknown
- 41:28things will happen. Don't mess up the take. Yeah, they definitely didn't mess it up. And
- 41:35I think and honestly, I I think it was just it was that genuine of a reaction of horror that they Oh,
- 41:41yeah. But like say somebody like looks directly at camera or like talks to the director of like what
- 41:46you know, I mean you it could easily be ruined and then you have this really expensive mistake. Well,
- 41:52and plus it's only going to work one time as far as like capturing the horror. Yeah. uh on on those
- 41:57actors faces and so but I mean I thought that was just such a cool thing to do that you know just
- 42:03to capture that genuine horror on those people's faces. Do you think like the guy who played Kane
- 42:09know like what was going to happen? I don't you know honestly I thought about that right? Well,
- 42:13not necessarily because they could have set him up inside of the because I assume probably what they
- 42:18did is had him below the table with like just his head on top maybe attached to the thing, but then
- 42:23they might not have even told him this thing's going to come busting out and blood's going to
- 42:27go everywhere. Oh, maybe not. I I don't know. I don't know if they think they would have had to
- 42:32rig him up with a chest piece of some sort, but I didn't think about that. They could have I assume
- 42:37that's what Yeah, I assume that's what what they did. But I think it was so cruel the way that they
- 42:41like make you think that he's going to be okay and then he's just like, you know, shooting the
- 42:45breeze like eating and then like all of a sudden it turns. I was like, "Dang, poor guy. Poor guy."
- 42:51And then they just yeet his body out into space like he's nobody. That must be a thing. I guess
- 42:56so that I was like, "Are you kidding me?" Cuz they're like, "We have to keep this alien carcass,
- 43:01but like you get out of here." going going back, you know, there was the directive that the whole
- 43:07point was to to get the alien. Yeah. And so now we know that that was the whole reason, but but they
- 43:14could have kept that man. Well, actually what that proper burial what that what that was to symbolize
- 43:20was like kind of a burial at sea. So back, you know, when they had like people on like ships
- 43:26and Okay. and long, you know, journeys. Yeah. Out to sea. When someone would die on the ship,
- 43:32they would dump them in the water. I mean, I guess that makes sense because like they can't
- 43:36preserve them. The body's going to decompose. You don't need that. And so this ship is just,
- 43:41you know, it's a cargo vessel that's just going and getting some cargo and coming back. And they
- 43:45probably weren't equipped to handle a a body. So then they did like the symbolic buriall at sea.
- 43:51and then send them out out the the shoot. I mean, I went through a lot of this movie like honestly
- 43:59to almost the bitter end thinking this was like a government sanctioned trip. And so I was like,
- 44:07"What the heck? NASA HR, get your stuff together." Because they had the wackest
- 44:12mechanics that were ever put on there. This man is just smoking on a spaceship. And I was like,
- 44:18"This is so unprofessional." like what what and then it was a different time and then it was like
- 44:24it clicked with me that this was a privately like a company that was doing this and um so like the
- 44:32government I guess probably would well I don't know the government does a lot of wack stuff but
- 44:36like what if people have sent to space and they do that [clears throat] are there just what happens
- 44:44to a body in space like in real life if you did that if you put a person M. And do they like it's
- 44:51cold? They'll Yeah, I bet they just probably like freeze and then crumple up. Is there a
- 44:55person sickle just like all for forever? Does it preserve you like that until you get sucked into
- 45:01a black hole? This I don't know. Oh, does Google know? We need the scientists of the world to weigh
- 45:07in. Yeah, for real. Hello. Um, what about that Tesla car? You know, you remember like
- 45:13when Elon Musk like sent a Tesla up into space? What happened to it? cuz I feel like that would
- 45:17be [laughter] remembered that. I don't either. No, for real did though. Yeah. And he like he had
- 45:22like a mannequin like sitting in the driver's seat and Yeah. Um it was just probably just a prank on,
- 45:28you know, if any other spaceships go up there and they see a Tesla driving around,
- 45:32right? Maybe. Or did it even happen? There's also that. Did you go to the moon the first time? Um
- 45:42What do you think? No, you don't think we did? I don't know because I think this is that's a huge
- 45:49conspiracy for like you feel I feel like somebody would have somebody would have spilled would have
- 45:54said it by now. So there's that. However, there are a lot of things that just don't make sense.
- 46:01Well, I don't know. We'll have to we'll have to deal with that for that's another thing to
- 46:04to dig into. Yeah. Um, yeah. One other thing that this did is it made parents look a little
- 46:14more closely at the R rating. Okay. Um, was this rated R? Yes. There were a lot of Fbombs. And so,
- 46:22oh, were there? I didn't even Mhm. That's the world we live in. That honestly did not phase
- 46:27me at all. Yeah. People were taking taking their kids to see this and there was this I saw some
- 46:32old news footage. Uh this reporter was waiting outside to interview parents [laughter] that
- 46:37brought their kids and she she caught one guy and she said, "Hey, did you know this movie is rated
- 46:42R?" And he said, "Yeah." "Do you regret taking your kid in there?" "Yeah." And [laughter] then
- 46:47but the next one that showed up, she said, "You did you know this is rated R?" "Yep." "Do you
- 46:52regret taking your kid?" "No." "He needs to know that things like this can happen." [laughter]
- 46:57So, you know, that kid is like, you know, an adult now and seeing these UFO files released like,
- 47:02"Dad was right." Yep. Absolutely. Dang. It's like that little kid like, and the reporter's like,
- 47:07it's like his first day at school and she goes, "Are you excited?" He goes, "Yeah." And then he
- 47:11starts going, [laughter] "That would have been me coming out. I would have been vomiting coming out
- 47:16of this movie for sure." [clears throat] Yeah. Whenever you said that too quick,
- 47:20it just made me think of like the Goonies whenever Mouth gets captured by the um like the Pachchellis
- 47:25or whatever. Have y'all seen The Goonies? Tell you probably have. It's been way too long. What?
- 47:31Let me tell So, one thing you got to know about me is that I 97 probably% of the time if you say
- 47:40such and such movie, have you seen it? If it's a classic or one that everybody should have seen,
- 47:46I probably have not. Now, if it's some cheap horror movie that somebody made in like in
- 47:54their backyard. Yeah. On, you know, $50 and a prayer, I might have. Your chances might
- 47:59be greater. I've never like stuff like Forest Gump, all these like iconic movies. I might have
- 48:04I just saw Forest Gump for the first time. Like, yeah, I think probably before I had Jay, but no,
- 48:09the Goonies. Uh, okay. Well, then this reference won't be that funny, but it's this this kid,
- 48:14his name is Chunk. He like gets Well, that's not his actual name. His name's Lawrence,
- 48:18but they call him Chunk. Um, he gets captured by these like evil Italians and they're like,
- 48:22"Tell us everything, kid." And he's like, "Everything." And he goes, "Okay." And so he's
- 48:27like all of these like confessions of like things that he did at school. And he's talking about how
- 48:31he made fake vomit. And he's like, "And I went to the theater and I sat in the balcony balcony and
- 48:37I like, you know, spilled it over and I started making sounds like this." [gasps] [laughter]
- 48:44And he's like, and then everybody started throwing up all over each other. I've never been so felt
- 48:49so bad in my life. And that's it. It's so But it's so funny. And one of the evil ties is like,
- 48:57I like this kid. [laughter] I can't believe you've never seen the Goonies. That's so good.
- 49:01Okay. Anyway, moving on. Um, can we talk about the most impractical underwear choice ever?
- 49:10that I mean like that I promise you on this podcast I well I can't promise you that because
- 49:17we're two episodes in and I'm two for two like Bill's ponytail in IT really got under my skin.
- 49:23This right here no wonder she was kind of a raging B- word to everybody the whole movie.
- 49:31A they were dumb. B she has the most uncomfortable underwear. I think that was like a child size 2T
- 49:37that she's wearing probably. Yeah. A napkin from craft services probably. Yes. I mean it
- 49:42was terrible. Like you when she when you saw the back, it didn't even cover her whole behind to the
- 49:48top. Yeah. If I can see the the split of your life right there. Like I [laughter] don't need I don't
- 49:55need that. That means you need to like size up, honey. It's okay. It's just a number. It's under
- 50:01a suit. It's under a suit. I I was like I remember watching that and I was like, "Huh?" And I thought
- 50:07that's I was like that's not the point of this part. That's not the point of it. It becomes the
- 50:11point because it's that distracting. It was so distract. Yeah. It's like it's like when someone
- 50:16like in public is like dressed not well and it's like I can't stop looking. I don't want to look,
- 50:21but I can't stop looking I And usually what people wear or whatever, like people having, you know,
- 50:30if you want to dress and show more skin than a lot of people would, honestly, usually I'm just like,
- 50:36okay, whatever. But that was really That was a choice. That's the thing. That was a choice. It
- 50:43was a conscious choice to include that. Yeah. And it's like for what? It's not even like,
- 50:50and I'm not saying like that would justify it, but it's not even sexualized at all. Right. It's just
- 50:55like I think that's a man that's a man's costuming choice because a woman I don't think would have
- 51:02done that. I'm going to look it up. Um I think it was a man doing I would actually I think once you
- 51:08look it up I think you'll be surprised. [gasps] What do you mean? Did she choose that? No, I don't
- 51:12know if she did or not, but I do know of some other choices that she they they tried to tell her
- 51:18to do and she was she basically said, "No, I'm not doing that." So, she she was a very queen energy
- 51:24though. Yeah, she's very I'm not if I don't want to do it, I'm not doing it. I do love Sigourney
- 51:29Weaver. Uh yeah, it's a man. He also did Star Wars. Well, I'm trying to think. Well, but I mean,
- 51:40are you are you saying he's just wardrobe? The wardrobe was designed by this man, award-winning
- 51:47costume designer known for his work on Star Wars [clears throat] and then he did like the rest of
- 51:52the Alien movies. So, there may be some like teeny tiny underwear and the rest of them. Who knows?
- 51:57Maybe it's a calling card. Maybe. So, but I I will say like if you if you look up some of the things
- 52:02that she was adamant about not doing Yeah. I really think if she if she didn't want to wear it,
- 52:08I don't think she would have. Oh. Oh, so you're saying like if she felt like that were Yeah. If
- 52:13she if she felt like that was something that's that's my assumption based on some of the other
- 52:16other things that they were um I mean she is fabulous and she is a queen. I think she
- 52:23knows that too. Was she already famous before that point? No. Interesting that she felt like that's
- 52:29even cooler to me that you feel like you can make those demands. Had that kind of energy. Yeah. I'm
- 52:34so passive. Now I want to learn more about her and watch more from just because knowing that right.
- 52:38Yeah, she was like I think she said she was uh maybe in Broadway or something. Broadway. What
- 52:44can she sing? Okay, now I got to know her. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Check check me on that. Fact check me
- 52:48on that. Um because they and I don't know how they came to Oh. Oh, here's something interesting. They
- 52:56originally wanted Picture this. They originally wanted Meryl Streep. Meryl Streep can do anything
- 53:01she wants to. I mean, she would also have Slade. I think she would too. Slay. I love her so much. She
- 53:08is fabulous. But she was I think what she gives me that same vibe of like I am in charge of me
- 53:15and I'm not going to do anything just because you tell me to do it. Yeah. But yeah, they originally
- 53:20wanted Meryl Streep. They couldn't She was I think she was going through like a a immediate
- 53:25family death or something. Oh. And that's why that she couldn't she wasn't available. But uh whenever
- 53:31they for Sigourney Weaver, they went to her. I think she was I want to say it was Broadway or
- 53:36something along those lines. Yeah, she did a lot of theater work. Yeah, theater work. And but also
- 53:40some musicals. She was not interested in doing this uh at first because she showed up at like
- 53:48I don't know if she showed up the wrong time or or something and her agent called her and she's like,
- 53:52"Look, let's just pass on this." But her agent talked her into it and so she ended up doing it.
- 53:58Yeah. Is this what kind of like propelled her? Yeah. Oh, this would be her first huge role. Um,
- 54:05yeah, cuz it was it was a breakout hit. I only knew her originally from Holes. Yep. I mean,
- 54:10I know that she was famous before that. Like as a kid, I didn't know any of her other movies,
- 54:16but I knew she was a famous actress. I just did not know what for. Yeah. And my first time seeing
- 54:21her in a movie. Yeah. And I don't know how many of the Alien movies she was in, but there's like
- 54:26eight. I think two. She was there there's a ton of them. No, she's definitely in I mean she was
- 54:30in Alien Resurrection. Know that. Well, maybe not. Okay. Oh, appeared two years later. So,
- 54:35not just two movies, but okay. Do the movies like are they continuation of the original story line
- 54:42or does it kind it's like just like in the same universe? I want to say it's a a continuation.
- 54:48I've It's been so long back to Earth or something or did they go back into space? I was telling
- 54:55Mark about this. I don't want to watch more Alien movies. I so did not like this. I'm telling you,
- 55:03it gets better. I also have a morbid curiosity of like how did you get yourself into this again?
- 55:09Why? Like you there's no It's kind of like the the kids going back to Derry. Like how how did
- 55:16you I have never had a trouble encounter like not encountering an alien. It seems that there is a
- 55:21very simple way to not do that is don't get on a spaceship. Amen. A amen. Well, here's here's the
- 55:28thing, though. What what good decisions don't make movies, I guess, right? And I think what
- 55:34you would find about some of the newer ones is that once the, you know, the CGI and and the the
- 55:40visual effects start becoming more modernized, you see more of the alien. And that matter of fact,
- 55:46they're plural. They're [gasps] And again, these things are they're faster than you are. They will
- 55:53hunt you down. Yeah. Um, maybe they get better. I'll give it that. Maybe they get better. I'll
- 55:58keep an open mind. That's my That's my new goal. Okay. [laughter] Their blood is acidic. So, you
- 56:05have to be careful how you kill. Oh, so it's like as if they weren't dangerous and deadly enough,
- 56:11there's also Oh, yeah. Cuz it dripped through most of the ship. Yeah. Yeah. And then And I
- 56:15even in one movie, they actually was able to spit it out of his mouth and spit it on somebody. So,
- 56:21so really like blood. Yeah. M I mean we assume it's blood. Maybe it's just some sort of
- 56:26acidic. Maybe it's all their bodily fluids. Maybe the saliva and the blood maybe. Yeah,
- 56:31it's just to note it has been several years since I've seen any of these movies. And I mean
- 56:36I don't I don't remember hardly anything other than I remember the jump scares were awesome.
- 56:41And then of course the actual Yeah. And then like the actual alien itself was terrifying.
- 56:46Um I would not be opposed to I don't think those are like on like in the spinny wheel. Mhm. Um,
- 56:52but I would not be opposed to adding them. Yeah. I need to look up and see like what what would be
- 56:57some good ones to like should we go in order of them like surely they can't all be good cuz like
- 57:04I love Halloween movies. I love Michael Myers, but like I wouldn't recommend every single movie,
- 57:08right? And I'm going to assume that Aliens versus Predator I don't know. Sorry anybody out there
- 57:12that loves that movie. I've never seen it but I'm going to assume it's probably not that good. So is
- 57:16there a dedicated Predator movie too? And then it was like a Freddy versus Jason thing where
- 57:21they were like put them up. I mean I don't that's Arnold Schwarzenegger, right? And it might have
- 57:24been a good movie. I don't know. I I could have swore that when it came out that it was not well
- 57:28received. What is the concept of Predator? I'll be back. I thought it was the Terminator. No,
- 57:32that's the Terminator. [laughter] Get to the chopper. That's That's Predator. Shannon,
- 57:40I feel so confident in it, too. [laughter] First of all, why am I so dumb? I'm going to freaking
- 57:47lose my tooth on this dang mic. Is it even Arnold Schwarzenegger? Predator. Yeah. Oh, okay. So,
- 57:53it is. That's fair. Then you were on the right track. You knew more about that than I did. Well,
- 57:57all right. So, uh, [laughter] Predator, the first Predator movie. I don't I don't
- 58:01think he was in any of the other ones. Oh, so he's not the Predator. No. Well,
- 58:05you say that like it's obvious. [laughter] We obviously know nothing about the Predator. We
- 58:09just thought that the Predator is like the alien, the alien life form. And then he So, it's another
- 58:14It's not an ali. It is an alien. Yeah, it's it's it's another alien being. Yeah. Okay. So,
- 58:21what's Terminator? An amazing movie. It's like a cyborg? Yeah. It's a it's a robot that comes back
- 58:28that travels back through time. Um it's it's a whole thing. Uh what's really cool is there
- 58:35you go. Yeah. But I mean, hey, [laughter] kind of relevant because Terminator is all about AI. And
- 58:42I mean, this came out in the 80s and 90s. I will say that their AI was pretty darn good on that
- 58:47spaceship fore being. And I mean, yeah, the dude the dude walked into his light bright room and and
- 58:52uh pulled up chat GPT. Ask Mother GPT. And I I will say like that was pretty interesting to
- 59:02me because that's basically what our AI is now. Yeah. How did they know what AI was going to be
- 59:08back then? That's what's crazy. That's what's so cool about it. Did they see it on the Simpsons?
- 59:13Possibly. I bet it was 47 years ago. That's weird to me. The Simpsons. I need to know. But anyway,
- 59:18maybe maybe that's something I don't want to know. But yeah, the Yeah. And in the Terminator movies.
- 59:22So when you hear somebody reference Skynet when talking talking about AI, that's what
- 59:26they're referencing is the Terminator movies. Oh, I know. I never heard that. But they both
- 59:31are Arnold Schwarzenegger. Predator and Predator and Terminator. Yes. Okay. Predator. Predator is
- 59:36the thing that looks like it has dreads, right? Yes. It's a It's a creepy looking creepy looking
- 59:42dude. Okay. Should we add that to the list? Is it scary? Maybe we should watch Alien and we should
- 59:47watch Predator and then we should watch Alien vs Predator I mean I'm not opposed to watching
- 59:51Predator. I mean, honestly, I would see But see, I I would almost think that that one's more of
- 59:57action because it doesn't really there's not like any jump scares or in Predator in Predator. Yeah.
- 1:00:02It's really just It's just this alien life form that's powerful and they So, what made them put
- 1:00:07those two things like pit those two things against each other? Cuz like I keep the only thing I can
- 1:00:12equate it to is my slasher Freddy versus Jason. I mean, I feel like I could be wrong. pretty simple
- 1:00:18or similar things and it's like oh just battle royale to the death are they is the alien I feel
- 1:00:25like it was it was probably something along those lines but I mean somebody some you know
- 1:00:29I imagine if there is ever a alien and predator fan listening to this they're probably losing
- 1:00:33their minds right now we have no idea what we're talking about are they technically both villains
- 1:00:38though the alien and the predator yes well alien for sure but 100% villain although I cuz I was
- 1:00:47team alien. I don't understand that. I [laughter] don't get it. Was there just like no redeemable? I
- 1:00:55did character so it took so long for the alien to show up and then I was like, I'm going to need you
- 1:01:02to show up and then I'm going to need you to grow up cuz this little thing just that thing grew fast
- 1:01:06around. It did once the alien like uh I guess when the guy went to you said it wasn't rain,
- 1:01:12it was condensation. I was like why is it raining in the spaceship? Condensation. He was like,
- 1:01:16"It's condensation." But again, but again, like the It grew up and I was like, "Oh,
- 1:01:20they're cooked." Because that thing's huge. [laughter] Yeah. 6' 10. But Yeah. Yeah. But yeah,
- 1:01:27I mean, they're they're that's what makes it so horrific is that they they grow. And plus, think
- 1:01:32about this. There were hundreds of eggs. Mhm. When they went down to that planet. I must have
- 1:01:39missed that. Oh, yeah. when he fell in there and like it was like it's protected by some mist or
- 1:01:44whatever and he was on that platform and then down where the egg was there were a bunch of eggs. Oh,
- 1:01:49fun fact. Uh that laser Yeah. that you saw there, they borrowed those lasers from uh The Who. The
- 1:01:56band? Yeah. Oh, they were playing locally and they [laughter] No way. Okay. Isn't that crazy
- 1:02:02how just like stuff like that happens? Yeah. Yeah. You just call somebody up, can I borrow
- 1:02:05your lasers? Yeah. But I feel like that's what people can depend on like people like Mark and
- 1:02:11Alek for. You need some random tech thing. Uh, hey, do you have a like you were asking us, do you
- 1:02:16have a stand for this light or whatever? And he's like, oh yeah, I have something that'll fit that.
- 1:02:20Why? I live with you and I don't know why. It's his background in videography. He hasn't made a
- 1:02:27movie in how long. Listen, thank the Lord because I was about I was getting so mad about this. It
- 1:02:33truly was an ugly struggle to get I was getting so overstimulated with this light thingy. So,
- 1:02:40I'm just thankful. Oh, I'm always grateful that he has it. He's like the Mary Poppins of tech things.
- 1:02:45Amazing. It's great. And we get to benefit from that. I do. Absolutely. Yeah. It's just
- 1:02:49one of those things like I'm going to need this someday. I'm just My whole life is being passenger
- 1:02:53princess to your tech knowledge. And for me, it's become a learned helplessness kind of scenario.
- 1:03:00I would agree with that. Yeah, it's nice to have a friend, but I'll let it happen. Yeah, take it.
- 1:03:05Absolutely. Now, if something ever happens or if he ever decides to leave, um I'm in trouble. Me,
- 1:03:11too. I think that all the time. Trouble. I'll probably just have to come and like take out
- 1:03:15your extra room and be like, "Can you You'd be Jay's roommate. I need to be taken care of." Yeah,
- 1:03:19I could I'll be a free nanny basically. [gasps] I mean, don't please don't leave. [laughter] Mark's
- 1:03:26like, "I don't like this." Okay. Well, I'm just saying I'll see you guys later. [laughter] I'm
- 1:03:31just saying if it were not my choice, I would never choose that. She will always [snorts] choose
- 1:03:37you over the alien. Over the alien? Yes. Over Pennywise last week. Yeah. I would always choose
- 1:03:42you. Um, so [sighs] I'm probably not a good person to talk about, but like what do we think was the
- 1:03:50dumbest decision of of this time? I'll let y'all go because I mean for me it was it was the the
- 1:03:57clown that stuck his face, you know, near that alien egg. That was pretty dumb. That That's what
- 1:04:03he didn't have to do that. No, you saw it moving in there. It's time to back away. Yeah, his cat.
- 1:04:08He should have just been like, you know what? I'm not going to touch that. Let's get out of
- 1:04:12here. Right. I mean, when he fell down into them, I was like, oh my goodness. It's like a butterfly
- 1:04:17effect kind of thing. But and then obviously like them letting him back onto the ship. Poor guy,
- 1:04:23right? Which that was Oh, it made me so mad when and knowing now even No, even knowing that the
- 1:04:30guy was a robot or whatever when he told her, "You do your job. You let me do mine." I'm like,
- 1:04:36"Brother, she tried to do her job, which was say, "No, you can't come on the ship. She was
- 1:04:42the officer in charge and she did her job and you got out of your lane." Yeah. So, no, no, don't
- 1:04:48speak to this woman that way. He stayed in his lane. directive was to get the alien. Yeah. So,
- 1:04:52he did do his job, I guess. So, but Oh, man. Oh, I was so paused it at that point. I was so mad. I
- 1:04:59was like, are you kidding me? Yeah. I just really hated that little pixie haircut girl. [laughter] I
- 1:05:06She was my least favorite. She was very unpleasant. I hated her. She was very unpleasant.
- 1:05:11But she was right at the beginning when they were like the three of them got sent out and
- 1:05:18um she was like, "We need to get the heck out of here." And she said that multiple times. I'm like,
- 1:05:23"She's not wrong. She ain't wrong." And you wouldn't have gotten your face eaten up. Did
- 1:05:28you ever watch Jimmy Neutron? Yeah. This reminded me of now this was about the time where I was like
- 1:05:35I maybe need to stop watching the show but they like had gone to space Jimmy, Sheen, and Carl and
- 1:05:42this alien attaches to Carl's face and is like the face hugger right then they get them off. They go
- 1:05:48back to Earth and then this thing starts growing out of Carl's behind and it's like moving around
- 1:05:55and it's like jiggly. They have a baby shower. I guess they somehow determined that this is an
- 1:06:01alien baby that's gonna come out of his butt? Yes, they [laughter] have I swear this is a real show.
- 1:06:07And I was like, "What the heck am I watching?" They have a baby shower for this baby. Okay. And
- 1:06:12then at the end, Carl goes, "Oh, it's time." He goes outside and he bears down like this and he
- 1:06:19farts out this alien baby and then the spaceship comes and the baby goes to the spaceship. There's
- 1:06:26a lot to unpack with that, but like [gasps] and we wonder why kids don't know like like he basically
- 1:06:36just I mean he farted it but like you that's not where the baby comes out of. I mean to be
- 1:06:41fair he's a boy so that's not and also an alien but like and it's an alien not a baby but like I
- 1:06:48could see kids being confused like well on Jimmy Neutron it came out of his butt. Yeah. And he's
- 1:06:53like a genius on that show. Yeah. They're supposed to be super smart. Jimmy Neutron boy genius. You
- 1:06:58totally called it and just you know went outside like it was nothing like it's time. Well, I mean
- 1:07:02you listen [laughter] when some you you know when you're about to expel something from your body. I
- 1:07:10mean you can tell it's like I [snorts] mean yeah tha's nott surprising to me. I'm saying like to
- 1:07:16the minute you know just be like oh it's time. Well, with a baby for some people that predict it,
- 1:07:21but with a poo, you know, you know. Okay. Yeah, I'm tracking now. I'm tracking. Unless you
- 1:07:28don't know. Oh, that I mean, that's true. Sometimes it sneaks up on you. [laughter]
- 1:07:36People, how did we get here? Uh, how many times have we asked that this episode? How did we get
- 1:07:41here? People are going to be like, "These people need some vyvanse." [laughter] Um, shoot. I don't
- 1:07:50know. I feel like people make dumbest decisions. Yeah. Yeah. I I don't I think they made a lot
- 1:07:54of dumb decisions obviously because I was not a fan of them, but like splitting up. I feel like
- 1:07:59go Yeah. Going into the vents, why would you not just all huddle up in one room? You know,
- 1:08:05this thing wants to kill you. Yeah. So, can you not just like congregate in one room with all
- 1:08:10your weapons and then you have all of it versus the one alien and give yourself a better chance
- 1:08:17than trying to be like a hero and be like, I'll go in the vents and get it. We don't have to get it
- 1:08:21right now. You're still you're going to be on the spaceship for a minute. 10 months. Let it find you
- 1:08:27all together. It will get hungry. Yeah. But like what was it? She had to like she was using like a
- 1:08:34blowtorch which probably just with some industrial tools because they probably didn't have weapons on
- 1:08:39the because it wasn't a military operation. Well, yeah. But with whatever you were going to fight it
- 1:08:44with, right? If you all have it and you're all there. Was it metal? The alien? Mhm. Was like
- 1:08:50metallic. I don't know. It's hard to tell because it was like it was like real slimy. No, I don't I
- 1:08:54don't think it's metal. But what's interesting is that and I I wish I could remember the guy's name.
- 1:08:59uh the artist that they basically used they they when they were trying to figure out
- 1:09:05what they wanted the alien to look like, they saw this guy's artwork and he was he was very
- 1:09:10uh man and machine kind of thing, like kind of an organic and mechanical type thing and they they
- 1:09:16saw this one picture that was kind of similar to what they look like and they said that's it.
- 1:09:20And so, but anyway, funny you should say metal uh because it was kind of uh inspired by, you know,
- 1:09:29metal and organic material, but just knowing what I know from other movies, I know it's not
- 1:09:34it's The Alien's not made of metal. No. Yeah. But it I mean, it would I assume it has some sort of
- 1:09:40exoskeleton, right? Right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All right. So, let's let's quickly talk
- 1:09:45about what club rules would ensure your survival. For me, it's uh not getting on that ship. What you
- 1:09:50said earlier? Absolutely. I will never never be in space ever. Never, never, ever. Unless
- 1:09:57I had the irrational fear in my mind of like if the world ever just stopped turning and we just
- 1:10:02all float up into space. That'd be the only time. Oh, it's not it's an involuntary thing. You just
- 1:10:06get just taken. That's what if the world stopped turning and gravity ended, that's what I imagine
- 1:10:12would happen. We just all float up into space. Oh. Oh, that would be the worst. Is that what would
- 1:10:16happen? I don't know if the world stopped turning like but it stayed suspended. Well, where is it
- 1:10:21gonna go? I guess there's nowhere to fall in. I don't The universe is like that is out of my pay
- 1:10:26grade. Yeah. When I think about things like the universe or the ocean or things that are so big
- 1:10:35and they make me uh put perspective on how tiny we are as a human. Yeah. And how insignificant really
- 1:10:42like to everything else, you know? I mean, not humans are not insignificant. However, like in
- 1:10:49the grand scheme of things, how much of a blip of a object in time you are, it stresses me out. I
- 1:10:55have to choose not to think about that. There's like I have an existential like problem. So,
- 1:11:00I just say, "Nope, I think I'm going to not Yeah. I mean, I have a hard enough time just getting on
- 1:11:06a plane." [laughter] Yeah. No, we're not getting on any I'm not getting on a spaceship. Well,
- 1:11:11and I think what we need to realize as humans is that the government, especially Americans,
- 1:11:18like our government spends a loads loads of money, right? We have NASA, we have the whatever,
- 1:11:26like all these exploration missions. Don't go on something that is funded by some really rich
- 1:11:34person or some other [snorts] company because the whole uh the thing where they went into deep space
- 1:11:40and they had like the Xbox controller or whatever and it imploded. You mean you mean deep sea? The
- 1:11:44Yeah, deep sea. The the other way the what was it called? Oh goodness. Oh, I can see it. Is it when
- 1:11:50they were going to go see the Titanic? Yes. Yes. So like that and it all comes back to the Titanic.
- 1:11:56um like that and then something like this which fictional but like don't yeah don't go somebody
- 1:12:04there there's no regulation there right and there's no security of that these people follow
- 1:12:08their due diligence yeah to keep you safe because if this private company something
- 1:12:12happens and you die that what is their recourse but if it's the government that looks really bad
- 1:12:18so they don't want that to happen and they can't look bad it is not yeah it is not in
- 1:12:21their best interest for the spaceship to blow up they will take all precautions for the submarine
- 1:12:27to implode. Like they will take everything into account to make that not happen. That's not to
- 1:12:33say it won't because obviously, you know, we've had some space things go poorly. Um
- 1:12:40but I think you got a better chance with the government than a private entity on that. So
- 1:12:45I think we should just learn if you're going to do that, maybe that's one time you should trust
- 1:12:49the government. Yeah. Yeah. I said if a company is ever offering you a large amount of money,
- 1:12:54probably don't take it. It's like with a large sign on bonus, like absolutely red flags. Yeah.
- 1:12:58Like there are reasons that some jobs pay a lot. Like cuz people don't want to do them. Yeah. Like
- 1:13:04the the like the dirty jobs or the un appealing jobs. There's those people make pretty like a
- 1:13:12mail people. They do pretty well cuz that job stinks. That'd be a terrible job. Yeah. I mean,
- 1:13:18like, you can you can do it, but I think you have you probably have to put up with so much.
- 1:13:22It's like the jobs that people don't want. The cake jobs, you know, everybody's lining up for
- 1:13:28those. You can get anybody for sure. Um, let's see. I thought we should listen to the women.
- 1:13:33Always. The men are clearly the problem here because [laughter] the one the pixie cut lady,
- 1:13:38she said, "Let's get out of here." Ripley did not want to let the guy back on the ship. Yep.
- 1:13:43The two women had the best ideas out of the whole thing and they were disregarded and look where we
- 1:13:48are. Dead. Every dead dead. And it Oh, by the way, these last two uh meeting meetings the meetings of
- 1:13:56the club meetings um the last two movies we've watched, Mark and I have done like a guess,
- 1:14:01a kill count guess. Yeah. And on this one, me not knowing hardly anything about the movie,
- 1:14:07I guessed it dead on. That's impressive. So like how many like the total number of people?
- 1:14:12So the kill count was six and so she guessed six, I guess seven. And then the opening intro
- 1:14:18comes on it says crew crew number seven and I was like h you knew cuz I already knew I knew
- 1:14:23that Sigourney Weaver's character Ripley was going to survive and although we'll put an asterisk on
- 1:14:27it because I didn't know if you really count Ash cuz he's not a person. I would count him. Yeah,
- 1:14:32I would count. Okay, then I got I would count him. I'll take it. I'll take the medal. But
- 1:14:35I'll do anything to ensure that you win. I love that. Yeah. tape. Girls, girl, [laughter] period.
- 1:14:44Um, so does anybody else have any more rules before we talk about whether or not we would
- 1:14:48survive? Follow the dang protocol. Absolutely. Follow learn your rules. Yes. Better learn
- 1:14:56your rules. Do you know where that's from? That sounds so familiar to me. I think it's
- 1:15:00from The Office. Oh, if you don't, you'll be eaten in your sleep. [laughter] All right. Oh,
- 1:15:09such a good show. We have some rules. [laughter] We know the rules. Would you survive? So,
- 1:15:17I'm going to say your chances obviously are not good. No, your chances are terrible. Once
- 1:15:21once the Let's just say this. Once that once that dude grows up, once it's on board and you're out
- 1:15:27in space and this thing's just hunting you down, your chances diminish quickly Hope is lost pretty
- 1:15:31much. But I would say that I would survive just because I'm team Ripley and I would have been 100%
- 1:15:39I'm also a rule follower and so I would have been in the same boat saying no, you can't get back on
- 1:15:45this ship. You've been exposed. Um, if I got to choose if I was going to space, yes. But I bet if
- 1:15:53I was forced on the ship, I' I'd probably I'm such an easy target. M but we know you're a fighter so
- 1:16:00maybe I would have I would have like died like Dallas or you would not go down without a fight.
- 1:16:06Correct. And that's sometimes all you can ask for. I think I would absolutely die because I know
- 1:16:16me and although I am somewhat a rule follower, I also have somewhat like a little bit of a bleeding
- 1:16:23heart and I feel like I would have let that man back on the ship. I know. I would have felt
- 1:16:27really bad about it cuz I'm like it's a person, right? We can help him. He has a family. Yeah. So,
- 1:16:32and then like the other two people would have had to stay quarantined too, stuck there. So, I would
- 1:16:37have felt bad about that and then everybody would be peer pressuring us back on the ship and then
- 1:16:42you they make you out to be the irrational one, right? When really she had the best idea. She was
- 1:16:48right. But I think I would have given into that. So, are you a people pleaser? Can be. Sometimes.
- 1:16:52It depends. I really have two extremes and you never know. That's the exciting thing about me
- 1:16:57is that you really don't know what you're going to get from day to day cuz I am sometimes a
- 1:17:01people pleaser but sometimes I'm really petty and defiant. Okay. Um and I just I don't know. I like
- 1:17:10to keep it, you know, we keep it spicy around here. We don't know. My flavor my flavor is
- 1:17:15typically salty. Good. Never bitter. Good. That's that's what I like to like keep in mind. You can
- 1:17:21be salty. Don't be bitter. Okay. Yeah. I like it. And I do stay salty about a lot of things. This
- 1:17:27will become clear in time. Um, so we did it last last time and any type of I guess thing that has
- 1:17:35arms and legs maybe we'll [laughter] Great. We'll do Smash or Pass. Great. Love it. Um,
- 1:17:42if it can hold you through the night [laughter] if there is smashing to be had. Yeah. I mean, yeah,
- 1:17:50you got to think about the logistics of this. But anyway, I also still want to say I want to
- 1:17:57make it abundantly clear that if having to choose between me and a horrific alien, if the choices
- 1:18:02were presented you and the alien, it's always going to be you. Every time, buddy. All right.
- 1:18:07Every time. I'm here for it. Um, so for Smash, [laughter] the list is short. Um, if it loved you,
- 1:18:15it could do a really good job at protecting you. Oh, that's a good that's a good point. However,
- 1:18:22how volatile is this thing? Like, how committed is it to you? Cuz if it's ever like, "Okay,
- 1:18:27I'm over with this relationship. It's time to break up." You're done. Yeah. Du n done. But you
- 1:18:32won't have time to like be sad and suffer and like break up. Yeah. It'll be fast. It will be fast.
- 1:18:37Um It's also very muscular. Yeah. Tall, but also like kind of too big like some It just That's not
- 1:18:45It's like a It's like a Slender Man kind of thing. [laughter] It's like the wave. What is this? Yeah.
- 1:18:51Very slimy. Has that weird little mouth. Yeah. And it drools a lot. It does drool a lot. I mean,
- 1:18:56like your dog drools a lot, but [laughter] so you have to think about that. This is like times a
- 1:19:00thousand. Just all in your face. So no, I think I have to pass at the end of the day. I also want to
- 1:19:08remind you the about the blood being acidic. So if I ever like cut his finger cutting like some
- 1:19:11carrots or something. Yeah, that could be nasty. Yeah. Like where do you like paper towels aren't
- 1:19:16going to No. Stop. How do you clean it? Oh, that's a thing. Your whole house just burns through the
- 1:19:21ground. Yeah. Yeah. You got to like You got to put a band-aid on it if you can't reach it. So,
- 1:19:25it's going to burn through a band-aid. What kind of That's true. Yeah. You have to have special
- 1:19:28band-aids. Like metal band-aids. Yeah. I'm not equipped to do first aid on this thing. No. No.
- 1:19:34Although, how many times have I ever had to do first aid on you? Zero. Let's keep it that way.
- 1:19:38You're pretty good at your own first aid so far. Yeah. You can put your own band-aids on. I like
- 1:19:42that about you. [laughter] Do Does he get the man flu, though? [snorts] He doesn't get sick much. So
- 1:19:49if he and when he does get sick, he pushes through honestly like to go to work or whatever a lot.
- 1:19:55So if he if I come home and he's laid up on the couch, I know that he really feels bad. Oh, and
- 1:20:01then your good heart and I feel bad about it some some most of the time. We've all been there. Yeah.
- 1:20:07So I mean I don't He doesn't play up sick. Okay. I I Yeah. So yeah. Good. [clears throat] Smash
- 1:20:14or pass for you? Definitely pass. I hate this. I [laughter] hate this guy. Um, his communication
- 1:20:20skills are trash. He will just hiss at you. What the heck is up with that? Yeah, that's childish.
- 1:20:25You got to stop that. I hate that so much. Use your words. [clears throat] Use your freaking
- 1:20:29words. He does not understand personal space. Mhm. Um, so he will always be I mean just like you
- 1:20:36can't even breathe. He's just on you. Not a fan of that. Um, and then the chest burster that's just
- 1:20:42it comes on a little too strong. [gasps] It does. At that point though, he's past that stage of his
- 1:20:47life. You never meet you never meet your man when he's a baby. So, you don't have a mother-in-law,
- 1:20:55which for some people that could be a good thing. For some people, I love my mother-in-law. Yeah,
- 1:20:59I have a good experience with that. So, I can't really relate to that struggle,
- 1:21:02but I guess that's But for some people, they have a bad in-law situation. Yeah. But or do
- 1:21:07you? I don't know. There's got to be a mom laying the eggs somewhere, right? I mean, yeah, but it's
- 1:21:14an alien. I mean, also, he's very young if you think about it because he was just born. So, he is
- 1:21:21a big manchild. Manchild. Yeah, that's what that song is about. Sabrina Carpenter wrote that about
- 1:21:27alien guy. [laughter] That's where she got the inspiration from. Yeah. [snorts] Yeah. I was not
- 1:21:33a fan. Uh I would definitely pass this guy. We'll we'll get we'll get one that we decide the verdict
- 1:21:39is smash at some point. some point. We have to surely whenever we watch a Halloween movie, I'll
- 1:21:44tell you that. Michael Myers girl. Yes, that's my Halloween boyfriend. Whoa. But I would still pick
- 1:21:47you. Is it the jawline? Is it the cheekbones? We'll hit one of those movies and I will detail
- 1:21:53all the things. Oh, I can't wait. Yeah, I'm sure there's a long list. Um, okay. So, does it make
- 1:21:59the club? You know, at first I would have said no. This episode has changed my mind and I I really
- 1:22:10want to thank you Mark for You brought a lot of passion into this which has given me a passion for
- 1:22:16it and so I would say yes. It makes the club that is amazing. Does that make you feel good? Yes,
- 1:22:20it makes it feel good. Your powers of persuasion. I really thought I was going to be on an island
- 1:22:24really. Okay. Cuz I mean it was and I totally understand it too because I mean again it's it's
- 1:22:3047 years old and so that's incredible. you [clears throat] know, it's it's not for everybody, but
- 1:22:35um you know, it it to me it is like an important piece. It's it's a classic. Yeah. And you know,
- 1:22:42super important to cinema history, [gasps and sighs] man. We can disagree. I really did. Oh,
- 1:22:50yeah. Absolutely. I will be disagreeing with you all often. [laughter] Um but I'm trying to think
- 1:22:55outside of myself, you know, because I know that I don't like alien movies. I don't like sci-fi.
- 1:23:01But you made good points about its influence and all of that. Um, so as far as would we
- 1:23:09recommend it to somebody else, I would say if you like creature horror and if you're a film
- 1:23:16if you're a film buff, you've probably already seen it. But if space interests you or whatever,
- 1:23:22then yeah, I think it's watchable. I would not be choosing to rewatch it in my life,
- 1:23:26but I would say it's for somebody. That somebody's just not me. Mhm. So, I like it. Okay. So, what is
- 1:23:35that? Two out of three. Yeah. So, mix it in. Yeah, I do want to see the other ones. And I do need to
- 1:23:41go back and rewatch the chest burster scene now that I know that was a genuine. Yeah, I definitely
- 1:23:46want to see where the story goes cuz it's like I said, all that I remember was from the past,
- 1:23:51you know, and it's been sad as sad to say it's been a couple of decades. Um, I just remember the
- 1:23:58jump scares and you know, plus the alien itself is just super super terrifying and creepy. Yeah,
- 1:24:05I think maybe in other ones where they're allowing you to see more of it cuz you just get glimpses
- 1:24:10of it, which sometimes that's more scary than something being in full view, like what you
- 1:24:16don't see and what you imagine something to be can be scarier than actually somebody showing it
- 1:24:21to you and doing a bunch of effects. Yeah. So maybe that works in this sense, but Oh, yeah,
- 1:24:26definitely. All right. So, what are we going to watch next? Shall we shall we spin the spinning
- 1:24:33spinning wheel of death? We need to Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We got to make We got to get some
- 1:24:39sound effects going on the board. [snorts] What is it? No way. I mean, I'll do it. I like this movie,
- 1:24:47actually. Signs. Wow. Okay. Another alien movie. Okay. another alien. And this one was a big one
- 1:24:53for young Shannon. Yeah, I'm excited about this one. Okay, I'm excited to revisit it. Stream it.
- 1:25:00Yeah, that that one um that one's creepy. That one is creepy. Okay, so this one we might have to rent
- 1:25:06it. Rent it, but I would do that. Um so signs was it came out in 2002. Um apparently you can rent
- 1:25:12it on YouTube. Um Fandanggo, Apple TV, although I think it's cheaper on YouTube. Um Amazon Prime
- 1:25:18Video, you can rent it from there if you have it. Okay. Um, it got 76% on Rotten Tomatoes. Okay,
- 1:25:27that'll be exciting. Yeah, this one. Um, and we've talked about this one recently, too. Just kind of
- 1:25:30like in passing. So, um, okay. Kill count guess. Ooh. Oh, that one's kind of This a lot of people
- 1:25:38in that movie cuz it goes through like whole cities and stuff. Yeah, that might be hard to pin
- 1:25:44down. That's okay. We don't have to do it on this one. Maybe like for slashers we'll do. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:25:49Yeah. probably doesn't work well for something like this, but yeah. Okay, great. So, um that is
- 1:25:54our next movie, Signs. Um so, watch along. Um so, you can have some some thoughts to yourself while
- 1:26:02while we discuss. Um thank you for listening. We hope that we um keep you entertained. I know
- 1:26:07we're having a fun time doing this. So, um we've got our social, so follow us there. And I think
