- 0:29What's going on, everybody?
- 0:30Welcome to Lunchtime with
- 0:33the Clydesdale Media crew.
- 0:35We have the Clydesdale Media
- 0:36Roundtable every week, lunchtime,
- 0:38Thursdays.
- 0:40What's going on?
- 0:41Hello.
- 0:42Kat, I want to hear how parents' weekend,
- 0:45mom's weekend went.
- 0:47Oh, it was fun.
- 0:49Mom's weekend, parents' weekend.
- 0:50It was good.
- 0:53I made the corn dip.
- 0:54It was delicious.
- 0:54This warm Mexican corn dip.
- 0:56I've actually gotten enough.
- 0:59ingredients to make it two
- 1:00more times in the pantry
- 1:02because it's that good.
- 1:03So probably like during football season,
- 1:06maybe on Sunday,
- 1:06I'll make some because it's
- 1:07starting to get cooler out.
- 1:08But that was a big hit.
- 1:10Um, the girls made pasta that was, uh,
- 1:14you know, pretty basic.
- 1:15They had like some little
- 1:16finger foods and stuff,
- 1:17but it was nice to get to
- 1:18know some of her parents.
- 1:19I didn't get to see my
- 1:21friend from high school
- 1:21until the next day.
- 1:23So what happened was we went to, um, the,
- 1:28the,
- 1:28we were supposed to go to the
- 1:28football game,
- 1:29but nobody really goes to
- 1:30the football game.
- 1:30So we waited until afterwards,
- 1:32but we went to a frat party actually.
- 1:34So me, my, my, my.
- 1:37Um, me,
- 1:38Mike and Leah went to the frat
- 1:40party with Eliana because
- 1:42this new boy that she's
- 1:43seeing is the social chair
- 1:45of the fraternity,
- 1:46which I wasn't so crazy
- 1:49about because he didn't
- 1:50really spend much time with her at all.
- 1:52Um, he was busy doing other things.
- 1:54Um,
- 1:54but there was like a mechanical bull
- 1:56there.
- 1:57Um, and there was one girl who was very,
- 2:02very, very intoxicated doing the bull.
- 2:06with like a tube top on and
- 2:08her parents must not have
- 2:10been there because I feel
- 2:11like she needed somebody to
- 2:14go get her and like put her
- 2:15to bed because
- 2:17it was really hard to watch as a mom,
- 2:19you know, you see that and you're like,
- 2:21Oh dear God, make someone make it stop.
- 2:23Um, but it was fine.
- 2:24We had a good time.
- 2:25Um, we, we didn't stay very long.
- 2:27Um, had like, you know,
- 2:29half a beer and hung out,
- 2:30but it was nice to,
- 2:31I did get to see my friend
- 2:32from high school then at
- 2:33that tailgate and party, whatever it was.
- 2:36And we,
- 2:36we got to hang out for a little bit.
- 2:37Funny story,
- 2:38the house that we were at in the backyard,
- 2:40um,
- 2:40she actually thinks she
- 2:42lived there when she went
- 2:43to school there a million years ago.
- 2:45She's like,
- 2:45I'm pretty sure she like sent
- 2:47my daughter and she's like,
- 2:47go inside and tell me when you go in,
- 2:50is there a bathroom here
- 2:50and a thing here?
- 2:52She was like,
- 2:52I'm pretty sure that was my
- 2:53house when I lived here.
- 2:54So it was fun.
- 2:55Yeah.
- 2:56We had a good time.
- 2:57It was nice to see everybody.
- 2:58I'm glad we had done because
- 3:01I don't remember parents
- 3:02weekend being that fun when
- 3:03I was a student.
- 3:03I think my parents came once.
- 3:05And we went to the tailgate
- 3:06and then maybe went to dinner.
- 3:07But I'm looking forward to next year.
- 3:09It was a good time.
- 3:10Fun.
- 3:12We didn't have parents
- 3:13weekend when I was a kid.
- 3:14Yeah, no.
- 3:15We didn't.
- 3:17The only reason I remember
- 3:18is because from my sorority,
- 3:20I have a picture of myself
- 3:22at the game,
- 3:23like one of those official
- 3:25fraternity sorority
- 3:26pictures that's got like a
- 3:27border on it with the name on it.
- 3:29And it's like my mom's
- 3:30wearing a corsage and we're
- 3:32at a football game.
- 3:33So that's kind of how I know
- 3:34it was parents weekend.
- 3:35But other than that, yeah,
- 3:37it was uneventful.
- 3:39Speaking of football,
- 3:40I heard last night at the
- 3:41dinner table that from now
- 3:42until November something,
- 3:44there's going to be
- 3:45football on TV every single day.
- 3:49Great.
- 3:50Every single day.
- 3:53How is that possible between
- 3:56like NFL and college?
- 3:57Yeah.
- 3:59They even show high school
- 4:00games here in town.
- 4:03Yeah.
- 4:05Yeah.
- 4:05So I want to rewind a bit.
- 4:07Have you ever rode a mechanical bull?
- 4:10Yes.
- 4:10One time.
- 4:12Yes.
- 4:13Me too.
- 4:13One time.
- 4:14It was at that country bar that's here,
- 4:18but I don't even think it's
- 4:19there anymore.
- 4:20Like,
- 4:22Yeah, I know what you're talking about.
- 4:24Over on Polaris, you know?
- 4:25Yeah, it closed during COVID.
- 4:27Yeah.
- 4:28I was very tempted.
- 4:29I've never done it.
- 4:30I was very tempted to do it
- 4:31at this party only because
- 4:32it looked super easy.
- 4:34But as soon as people get on it,
- 4:38they make it look very tumultuous.
- 4:40And I can't figure out if
- 4:42it's because they're
- 4:43impaired or because it goes
- 4:47down so far that you just can't hold on.
- 4:50I don't know.
- 4:51It was...
- 4:52I didn't do it.
- 4:53I kind of wish I had,
- 4:53but I'm sort of glad I didn't.
- 4:55It's like those CrossFit
- 4:56workouts that you see on the whiteboard.
- 4:57They don't, they don't look that bad.
- 4:58And then you do them.
- 4:59You're like, Oh my God, that was terrible.
- 5:01So I,
- 5:03I wanted to either like be successful
- 5:05or crash epically and I got neither.
- 5:10Yeah, like a mediocre.
- 5:13Well,
- 5:13it like spun a couple times it went
- 5:15back and then he did like a
- 5:17big like launch forward.
- 5:19And I just like slid down
- 5:21the bull and around the neck and,
- 5:23and just kind of flopped onto the mat.
- 5:26It was epically uncool.
- 5:28Yeah.
- 5:33Too funny.
- 5:34But I tried one.
- 5:34You should do that.
- 5:36If you guys ever come into town again,
- 5:37we'll go to Xfinity Live
- 5:39where they have the Eagles games.
- 5:40They have a bowl there.
- 5:41Check it out.
- 5:43Not sure my back could
- 5:44handle it these days.
- 5:47Amy and I could have like a write-off.
- 5:48There were people doing it
- 5:49two at a time too.
- 5:50That was interesting.
- 5:53So many things I could say
- 5:54about what you just said.
- 5:55I'll just keep it in.
- 5:59Kat just keeps talking and
- 6:01it just keeps getting...
- 6:04I love it.
- 6:04I love it.
- 6:08So, uh, eventful week, you guys.
- 6:11Yeah.
- 6:15For me,
- 6:16I have had a couple of events at
- 6:17work that have kept me late
- 6:18nights and then, you know,
- 6:20quick turnarounds to
- 6:21coaching in the morning.
- 6:22So today's my off day.
- 6:24So I will be taking a fat
- 6:26nap as soon as we log off here.
- 6:31Good.
- 6:31MFC.
- 6:33Oh, yes.
- 6:35Last weekend.
- 6:37So it was kind of a quick trip.
- 6:38We went up Saturday morning,
- 6:39came back Saturday night.
- 6:42Lots of people asking about
- 6:43Kat and how she was doing.
- 6:47As she helped run that event
- 6:49for a few years, lots of people asking.
- 6:55So saying hi from everybody up there.
- 7:00but it was they seem to be
- 7:02getting bigger and better
- 7:04like it seems better run
- 7:06they did face a lot of
- 7:08difficulties because of the
- 7:10hurricane judges were not
- 7:12able to get flights into
- 7:15the event because of the
- 7:16hurricane and first
- 7:18responders who were judges
- 7:20were told to stay and they
- 7:22were not allowed to leave
- 7:23so they were down twenty
- 7:25judges to start the weekend that sucks
- 7:30And so Friday got delayed quite a bit,
- 7:32but they rallied and got
- 7:36some new judges in and
- 7:39picked up the pace on Saturday.
- 7:41And it ran very fluently.
- 7:43I think what's happened
- 7:45though now is because of the timing,
- 7:47being so close to the
- 7:48Masters CrossFit Games,
- 7:50you're not getting the big names anymore.
- 7:52Yeah.
- 7:52Yeah.
- 7:53So the only division that
- 7:55had like what I consider big,
- 7:57big names was the thirty
- 7:59five thirty to thirty four.
- 8:01Because they're the only
- 8:01event that does that.
- 8:02So they're not really
- 8:04masters like Danny Oliveri was there.
- 8:08Katie Cagliore,
- 8:09all these athletes we
- 8:10interviewed during the
- 8:12semifinal series are
- 8:14dipping their foot into the
- 8:15masters age group.
- 8:18So it's fun seeing them guys.
- 8:19But yeah.
- 8:23Still some of the same old problems,
- 8:24though,
- 8:25like no finish line or like they
- 8:30did a ten-round workout,
- 8:33seven sandbag cleans,
- 8:35handstand walk to a deadlift bar,
- 8:38do five deadlifts, handstand walk back,
- 8:41and then start the next round.
- 8:42Wow.
- 8:43You could not tell what
- 8:44round anybody was on,
- 8:45what place anybody was in.
- 8:48it just got to be, it got to be rough.
- 8:52And in some events they had placards out,
- 8:54like marking the rounds,
- 8:55but in this one they didn't
- 8:56for some reason.
- 8:58So you're just clueless.
- 8:59It's just a mass chaos on the floor,
- 9:02but I think they have gotten way better.
- 9:04And I hope they've got a great venue.
- 9:07It's got,
- 9:07it's cheap accommodations around there.
- 9:11You know, it's,
- 9:11it's an affordable place
- 9:12for like the masters athletes to go.
- 9:15I hope they can kind of,
- 9:18I hope they can kind of get
- 9:19it rolling into a good
- 9:22event for the Masters community.
- 9:23Yeah, we get a better experience overall.
- 9:27Yeah.
- 9:31So that was it.
- 9:31And then I watched two
- 9:33sequel movies this week and
- 9:34was surprised at which one
- 9:35I liked better.
- 9:36What?
- 9:37Tell us.
- 9:39So I watched Deadpool Wolverine.
- 9:40Okay.
- 9:42And I watched Bad Boys Ride or Die.
- 9:44And?
- 9:47Bad Boys was way better.
- 9:52I feel like that's off of
- 9:54your genre of rom-coms, though.
- 9:57They both are way off my genre.
- 10:01There was no rom.
- 10:03There was some com, but no rom.
- 10:07But Bad Boys was as good as
- 10:10the first and second one
- 10:12and nowhere near as bad as the third one.
- 10:16There's four?
- 10:17there's four yeah see I
- 10:19haven't seen any of those I
- 10:21haven't seen any of those
- 10:22but I did see the wolverine
- 10:23one and I I haven't seen a
- 10:26lot of marvel movies and I
- 10:28thought that one was really
- 10:29good for somebody that's
- 10:30not like a huge marvel fan
- 10:32like it was entertaining
- 10:33but what didn't you like
- 10:34about that one I I actually
- 10:36liked it I just didn't okay
- 10:38you just like the other one got it
- 10:41Yeah.
- 10:42It's so over the top and so Deadpool ish.
- 10:45Like if you like the Deadpool movies,
- 10:46you'll like it.
- 10:47It's just, um, yeah, I bad boys.
- 10:51One of my favorite movies in years.
- 10:54Great.
- 10:54Now we're going to have to watch it,
- 10:58but I will say like to get
- 10:59a lot of the jokes,
- 11:01you have to have seen the first couple.
- 11:03Great.
- 11:04So now I have to have a bad
- 11:05boys marathon is what you're saying.
- 11:06That's what I'm saying.
- 11:07Perfect.
- 11:09Um, are you going to see the Joker?
- 11:12I don't know, man.
- 11:12The first one messed me up so bad.
- 11:14Oh, it is crazy.
- 11:19So I don't know.
- 11:21The first one was a great movie.
- 11:23It just was really dark and
- 11:24really demented.
- 11:26And I don't know if I can go
- 11:26down that road again.
- 11:27It seems just as, yeah.
- 11:31It seems just as demented.
- 11:34I'm watching the new Netflix
- 11:37series with Kristen Bell
- 11:39and Adrian Brody.
- 11:40Is it good?
- 11:42It's so cute.
- 11:43Yeah.
- 11:43I really like it.
- 11:44It's adorable.
- 11:45Okay.
- 11:45I'll get on that.
- 11:47I just finished the Menendez brothers.
- 11:50Yeah.
- 11:50I haven't gotten to that one yet.
- 11:51Of course.
- 11:54That one's like what two or
- 11:55three episodes.
- 11:55Like I can do that.
- 11:56Oh no.
- 11:57It's, it's like a series eight episodes.
- 11:59Oh, it's eight.
- 12:00Okay.
- 12:00Cause this one, this,
- 12:02this thing's only ten,
- 12:03but the episodes are like
- 12:04twenty eight minutes long.
- 12:05So we've watched it twice
- 12:07and we're already on like episode seven.
- 12:10we started re-watching the
- 12:11bear Scott you were really
- 12:13into that right I was okay
- 12:15well the first couple
- 12:16episodes were slow but now
- 12:17I'm feeling like I can get
- 12:19back into it yeah I felt
- 12:22season three was a little
- 12:23bit of a letdown okay after
- 12:25the first two season two is
- 12:26the best by far uh but yeah
- 12:34Oh, yeah.
- 12:35I've heard of Bad Monkeys, too.
- 12:37Bad Monkeys is right up your alley, Amy.
- 12:40Mine?
- 12:41Oh, yeah.
- 12:42What's it about?
- 12:43It's a murder mystery with humor.
- 12:46Okay, I'm in.
- 12:47Vince Vaughn humor.
- 12:49Okay.
- 12:49Oh, is Vince Vaughn in it?
- 12:51Yeah, he's the lead.
- 12:52Oh, I like him.
- 12:53I like him a lot.
- 12:55Amy,
- 12:55are you able to watch more than one
- 12:57series at a time?
- 12:59You are.
- 13:00See, I can't do that.
- 13:01Yeah, I can get a lot done with,
- 13:04because like I said,
- 13:05like I'll carry around my
- 13:06iPad while I'm cleaning or
- 13:07doing something and just
- 13:10kind of consuming.
- 13:11I may not be watching it the whole time,
- 13:12but consuming it.
- 13:15See,
- 13:15all of my television watching is a
- 13:18couple's activity.
- 13:19So there's not a whole lot of like,
- 13:21I have to wait until like
- 13:23it's TV time at like seven
- 13:25or eight o'clock at night to do that.
- 13:27I don't watch much on my own, but I do.
- 13:29That's when I catch up on
- 13:30all my YouTube stuff.
- 13:31All my CrossFit things is
- 13:33when I'm driving or we're working.
- 13:39CrossFat says, dark comedy,
- 13:42Vince Vaughn comedy,
- 13:43but it's still Vince Vaughn
- 13:44playing Vince Vaughn.
- 13:45Love it.
- 13:46Perfect description.
- 13:48I rewatched The Breakup the other day.
- 13:50I love that movie.
- 13:51Such a good movie.
- 13:54I reference that a lot.
- 13:58I want you to want to watch it.
- 14:01It's so relatable.
- 14:04Yeah.
- 14:05It's good.
- 14:06Did you guys work out today?
- 14:08I did.
- 14:08What'd you do?
- 14:12Today was strict press,
- 14:15seven by two at seventy five percent.
- 14:19And then into twenty one, eighteen,
- 14:21fifteen, twelve, nine,
- 14:22six of front rack lunges.
- 14:27With the barbell,
- 14:28sixty five pounds and toes to bar.
- 14:32The toes to bar got rough.
- 14:38And the twist bar is one of
- 14:39my best movements and it
- 14:40just got real rough with
- 14:42midline and your legs being taxed,
- 14:45but it was good.
- 14:46Yeah.
- 14:47I like that.
- 14:48We're doing a push press cycle right now.
- 14:50And the first we opened up with the first,
- 14:53the first set was six by
- 14:55six at starting at eighty
- 14:56five percent of your strict, strict.
- 15:00So I did like thirty six
- 15:02push press at like eighty five,
- 15:03ninety five pounds.
- 15:04I was dying.
- 15:05Yeah.
- 15:06And then today,
- 15:07so you guys know I have
- 15:08this tennis elbow thing
- 15:09that I injected like three
- 15:11times and it flares up
- 15:12every once in a while,
- 15:13but it really isn't warranted.
- 15:15Like I'm not doing enough, honestly,
- 15:18to make it do this.
- 15:18So I'm kind of a little bit
- 15:20discouraged by it,
- 15:21but I'm redoing my office
- 15:23upstairs and I was painting,
- 15:25putting a sample color on
- 15:26the wall and I went to,
- 15:28I cleaned out my brushes.
- 15:30And when I went outside to,
- 15:32I usually whack it against
- 15:33the side of the house.
- 15:34Like I do like this to dry it off.
- 15:35Well,
- 15:35I took it and I went like this with it,
- 15:38like as hard as I could.
- 15:40And I tore something in my elbow.
- 15:41Like, I swear to God, whatever happened,
- 15:43I felt like my whole
- 15:44forearm was going to
- 15:45disconnect from my humerus
- 15:47and I was going to die.
- 15:48So now I'm really babying my elbow so bad.
- 15:54No vacuum handles, but my,
- 15:57I'm still taking my dog's
- 15:58prednisone every day to poop.
- 16:01Oh, my gosh.
- 16:02You're still taking dog's prednisone?
- 16:03You're taking dog prednisone?
- 16:05Well, it's just,
- 16:06it's twenty milligrams of prednisone.
- 16:08Yeah.
- 16:08It's the same?
- 16:08Okay.
- 16:09I'm down to ten now.
- 16:11I, like,
- 16:11taper down to ten to stave off
- 16:13whatever's going on with my hand.
- 16:15But I have to, like,
- 16:16I might have to jack it up
- 16:17again now because my elbow hurts.
- 16:19So, like, it just hurts all the time now.
- 16:20It's not, I, like,
- 16:21really messed it up doing that.
- 16:22Like, just doing this once like that.
- 16:26So Amy,
- 16:26when you announced the dog prednisone,
- 16:29Charlie and I were
- 16:30convinced that Kat was
- 16:32going to come back the next
- 16:32week with a cone around her neck.
- 16:36Yeah.
- 16:36So when,
- 16:37like right before we put Dash down,
- 16:39they gave him like massive
- 16:40doses of steroids of
- 16:42prednisone and he got really sick from it,
- 16:44but I have a whole bottle
- 16:45of it and it's like.
- 16:46Twenty milligram pills.
- 16:47And when I called my ortho,
- 16:48he was sent me in for a dose pack,
- 16:50which was like a tapering of whatever.
- 16:53And I was like, I'll just take this.
- 16:54So I'm just taking that now.
- 16:55There you go.
- 16:58That University of Delaware
- 16:59medical degree.
- 17:00Yeah, Kat's a vet and a doctor.
- 17:07On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays,
- 17:08she sees humans.
- 17:10Tuesdays and Thursdays, she sees animals.
- 17:14And did I show you the white
- 17:15mark on my elbow?
- 17:16See that?
- 17:17It's like the pigment is gone right here.
- 17:21The orthopedic surgeon told
- 17:22me that as I get injections there,
- 17:24that it might discolor my skin.
- 17:26And it clearly has.
- 17:28It looks like I would like
- 17:29put on self-tanner and like miss the spot,
- 17:31which I didn't do.
- 17:33So what happens if you just
- 17:34put self-tanner on that spot?
- 17:36That's kind of what I might do.
- 17:38I have like a little bronzer
- 17:39I put on and I get really dressed up.
- 17:41Yeah.
- 17:43Yeah.
- 17:44Anyway,
- 17:45I did tell the pharmacist when I
- 17:46went to pick up my dose
- 17:48pack that the doctor did
- 17:50prescribe that I was taking
- 17:51the dog prednisone and she
- 17:52did not bat an eye.
- 17:53So like she giggled, but she wasn't like,
- 17:55Oh my God, you shouldn't do that.
- 17:56So I think we're, I think we're okay.
- 17:58Okay.
- 17:59I mean, they,
- 18:00they prescribed special K to people too.
- 18:02So Corey Leonard says,
- 18:05I don't need a Z pack when
- 18:06I have dog meds, cat probably.
- 18:08Yep.
- 18:09Pretty much.
- 18:10I mean, her name is cat.
- 18:11She is.
- 18:13Exactly.
- 18:14I'm basically a veterinarian.
- 18:15Basically.
- 18:15I'm a dog whisperer.
- 18:19Speaking of meds, I have big news.
- 18:20Okay, cool.
- 18:22Last night was the last
- 18:23night I need to take insulin.
- 18:25Great.
- 18:28That's so cool.
- 18:29I've weighed myself off ten units,
- 18:30two units at a time,
- 18:32keeping my blood sugar at a low rate,
- 18:36and I'm done.
- 18:37That's so good.
- 18:41That was a major goal when I
- 18:44got the AFib in February
- 18:45and six months later, it's gone.
- 18:48Good job.
- 18:48That's great.
- 18:52So super stoked about that.
- 18:58Do we want to talk some CrossFit stuff?
- 18:59Sure.
- 19:01Yes, please.
- 19:02I don't know about this rumor,
- 19:03so I want you to fill me in on the rumor.
- 19:07So
- 19:11The rumor first?
- 19:13Yeah.
- 19:13Let's set it up with the
- 19:14Ariel talk because she goes
- 19:16into that rumor.
- 19:17Okay.
- 19:19Okay.
- 19:20Okay.
- 19:21So Ariel Lone was on the
- 19:22Barbell Spin last night.
- 19:24To set this up, the week before,
- 19:27she had posted some stories
- 19:29where she was asking people
- 19:31to ask her questions.
- 19:33And in one of those questions,
- 19:36she was talking about how
- 19:40if she doesn't do the
- 19:41CrossFit Games next season
- 19:43she's looking at all these
- 19:45other comps like NorCal
- 19:46classic Crash Crucible and
- 19:48that she may um that she
- 19:52may dive into those instead
- 19:54of doing the game season
- 19:57And kind of listed those out.
- 19:59Then there was another one
- 20:01where she answers a
- 20:02question about the game
- 20:03saying it was horrible and
- 20:06that if she never does them again,
- 20:08it wouldn't be a big miss
- 20:11for her anymore.
- 20:14So she's on the spin last night.
- 20:18They opened up by talking
- 20:19about the tear cup,
- 20:21and then they get into those stories.
- 20:23And this is her response
- 20:25when Tyler is asking her to
- 20:27kind of do a summation
- 20:30about what her feelings were.
- 20:33Because she talked about it
- 20:34for a little bit, and he's like,
- 20:35I still don't understand your feelings.
- 20:37Can you kind of sum them up?
- 20:39And she's talking about from the moment...
- 20:43of Lazar's death to like the
- 20:46next day and them taking the floor again.
- 20:49So I'm going to go ahead and share this.
- 20:51Hopefully Borbel Spin will
- 20:53be okay with us sharing this.
- 20:56They're the ones that did the work.
- 20:58We're just sharing it.
- 21:00And so go check it out for
- 21:01the full interview.
- 21:06And here it is.
- 21:07I think safe is not the word I'd use.
- 21:11I would say
- 21:13What happened was horrible.
- 21:14That's on them.
- 21:16As far as everything that
- 21:17happened after that is what
- 21:19drew a line in the sand
- 21:20with me for CrossFit.
- 21:22Because no longer was it community.
- 21:25No longer was it this.
- 21:26It was, hey, the show's going on.
- 21:29Hey, show up at the ADM.
- 21:31Hey, here's the athlete brief.
- 21:32Here's the workout.
- 21:33So everything that happened
- 21:34after really scarred me.
- 21:36Like hearing people, games must go on.
- 21:39We're here to compete.
- 21:40I want my money and all that.
- 21:42And it's like,
- 21:43I'm like, what are you doing?
- 21:44But it's just like where
- 21:45different people find value.
- 21:47So everything that happened
- 21:48after and how it was
- 21:49handled professionally as an organization,
- 21:52using words like the
- 21:53shareholders want it to go on, you know,
- 21:55stuff like that.
- 21:57Or it's like you had a
- 21:58choice and y'all made the wrong choice.
- 22:01And each I did do what four events,
- 22:04maybe each event I just saw
- 22:06and felt like this is a production.
- 22:09This is a show.
- 22:10You circus monkeys need to
- 22:12go perform for the show.
- 22:13You didn't like feeling like a racehorse.
- 22:16Yeah,
- 22:16I ended up feeling like empty inside
- 22:19and like a racehorse.
- 22:20Like people paid to see you
- 22:22do your dance on the stage.
- 22:26So that kind of sums it up pretty clearly.
- 22:29She goes on to say that during Chad...
- 22:32Here you are doing a workout
- 22:34for a fallen hero,
- 22:36and you're trying to kind
- 22:36of focus on that,
- 22:38and all you're hearing is
- 22:39the announcer talking about the race.
- 22:42And that's when, like,
- 22:44she knew she had to walk away.
- 22:50So what that leads me to
- 22:54kind of discuss is,
- 22:55and I want to point out one more thing.
- 22:58They do ask her in here,
- 22:59is she affiliated with the PFAA?
- 23:02And she says, no,
- 23:05that her demands are not
- 23:06what their demands are.
- 23:08That the one thing that she
- 23:09wants to see from CrossFit
- 23:10is that it becomes a team
- 23:13that puts the games together.
- 23:14Not one person.
- 23:17And that team can include Dave Castro.
- 23:20She just wants it to not be a dictatorship,
- 23:23but be a team led thing.
- 23:27Um,
- 23:29And her response to about the PFAA,
- 23:34she said she doesn't really
- 23:35align with them.
- 23:36She doesn't want to get into
- 23:37specifics publicly.
- 23:38She may talk about it back like off air,
- 23:42but that basically actions
- 23:45speak louder than words.
- 23:51So she says that as that's
- 23:53almost a direct quote from her.
- 23:56So with that,
- 23:57we have rumors that the
- 23:59investigation is about to
- 24:01commit to be done.
- 24:03And that next week they
- 24:04would be releasing the
- 24:06results of that investigation.
- 24:09This is the third party investigation.
- 24:12Correct.
- 24:13Okay.
- 24:15There are dates being
- 24:16floated around by John
- 24:17Young of October seventh.
- 24:19But I've just heard it is
- 24:21imminent and around the corner.
- 24:26And so my question to you is,
- 24:29Bethany made a similar post
- 24:31on Instagram about she's
- 24:32going into High Rocks this offseason,
- 24:35maybe Wadapalooza,
- 24:38doing those kinds of things.
- 24:40What do you think?
- 24:41Do you think we'll have a
- 24:42twenty twenty five CrossFit
- 24:43Games or do you think that
- 24:48it'll look different if we do have them?
- 24:55Yes, I think we will have them.
- 24:56Yes, I think it will look different.
- 25:01Yes, I think we'll have them.
- 25:04I think the road to it might
- 25:05look different.
- 25:05But I think fundamentally,
- 25:06it'll still be the same
- 25:09type of competition that we're used to.
- 25:13Just different.
- 25:14Yes, we'll have them.
- 25:17I think we'll be missing
- 25:18some of the top athletes.
- 25:23Yeah.
- 25:23The people, the characters will change,
- 25:27but I mean, Ariel's right.
- 25:29And for her,
- 25:30it doesn't sound like whatever
- 25:31happens with the
- 25:32investigation is going to
- 25:33make much of a difference
- 25:34for her because she was
- 25:36talking about all the
- 25:36things that happened
- 25:37afterwards and that that was, you know,
- 25:39the basis for her making her decision,
- 25:41which is totally, totally cool for her.
- 25:44Um,
- 25:45So, yeah, I mean,
- 25:46you're going to get a whole
- 25:47nother swath of people that
- 25:49are going to do some things
- 25:50and act a certain way based
- 25:52on the investigation, perhaps.
- 25:56So that'll be interesting to see, but it's,
- 26:01it is a product,
- 26:02it is a production and it is,
- 26:05there are characters in the,
- 26:07in the production and they
- 26:10can choose to be part of it
- 26:11or choose not to be part of it.
- 26:13And they will,
- 26:15reap the benefits of being a
- 26:17part of it if they choose to.
- 26:19And with that comes other
- 26:22things that they have to grapple with.
- 26:24And it's all very personal
- 26:27decision for all of them.
- 26:31Yeah.
- 26:31She'd also mentions in here
- 26:32that other top tiered
- 26:34competitions treat the
- 26:36athletes so much better.
- 26:40Like when you go to Rogue,
- 26:42it's about the athletes.
- 26:44When you go to Wadapalooza,
- 26:46they are about the athletes.
- 26:48And when you go to the CrossFit Games,
- 26:51it's about the games.
- 26:53And she said what's sad is, though,
- 26:54like that's supposed to be the pinnacle.
- 27:00You're trying to become the
- 27:01fittest on earth.
- 27:02So I don't know.
- 27:09It sounds to me, I mean,
- 27:12it sounds like she's
- 27:15wanting more of the festival community.
- 27:18I'm not saying that's what
- 27:19she necessarily wants,
- 27:19but when she was talking
- 27:20about she missed the community,
- 27:21that's more of like the
- 27:22festival kind of thing.
- 27:24But when you are talking about the games,
- 27:26and let's take out this year's games out,
- 27:29but if you want it to be a
- 27:31professional sport,
- 27:32this is a professional event.
- 27:35right this is the super bowl
- 27:38of it so I agree and some
- 27:44of those off-season
- 27:45competitions that you talk
- 27:47about and she even
- 27:48mentioned this like to get
- 27:49to them easy you have to
- 27:51compete at the games yeah
- 27:53like to get the invitation
- 27:54to rogue to get the
- 27:54invitation to wadapalooza
- 27:56and not have to go through
- 27:57all the qualifiers you have
- 27:59to compete at the games
- 28:00But that whole process is
- 28:04under the guise of the
- 28:06current state of CrossFit, right?
- 28:10And so it doesn't mean that
- 28:12Rogue can't change the way
- 28:14they pick who goes.
- 28:16And it doesn't mean that
- 28:16Wadapalooza can't change
- 28:18the way they pick who goes.
- 28:20Right.
- 28:23That's not necessarily going
- 28:25to be like the prerequisite
- 28:26to get into some of those other ones.
- 28:28If the environment were to change,
- 28:30let's say that all these
- 28:32high-level athletes drop
- 28:33out and the population of
- 28:35athlete becomes diluted from a, you know,
- 28:40expertise perspective or
- 28:42from a quality level, you know,
- 28:44Rogue might decide to
- 28:45change the way they do that.
- 28:46They might just invite people.
- 28:48based on whatever,
- 28:49like they can do whatever they want,
- 28:50which is great.
- 28:53So yeah,
- 28:53I can see that sort of that
- 28:55concern going into the season,
- 28:57but if it changes significantly,
- 28:59then all that might change too.
- 29:02And you,
- 29:03we could see Rogue and Wadapalooza
- 29:04going after Hyrox people.
- 29:06Like if Hyrox becomes,
- 29:08if a lot of CrossFit people
- 29:09make the switch to Hyrox,
- 29:11it's just going to elevate
- 29:13Hyrox and make it potentially more
- 29:19watchable because of that
- 29:23you know maybe it gets more
- 29:23popular I don't know to me
- 29:26it's hard to be a watchable
- 29:29event well maybe but I mean
- 29:31maybe hyrax is going to
- 29:32evolve now that you know
- 29:34what I mean like so many
- 29:37things could change based
- 29:38on who shows up and how
- 29:40they influence the sport
- 29:42So Jody's asking,
- 29:43was there less of a
- 29:44community in Texas versus Wisconsin?
- 29:47I don't think we truly have
- 29:48the answer to that.
- 29:51Yeah.
- 29:52Lazar's death happened in
- 29:53the first event of the first day.
- 29:55We didn't even get to the weekend.
- 29:58I will tell you that moving
- 30:00Vendor Village a block away,
- 30:02I don't think was a good move.
- 30:04Mm-hmm.
- 30:06and all the like community
- 30:07workouts and all the
- 30:09appearances by the other
- 30:10athletes and all of that
- 30:12stuff being a block away,
- 30:14I think took away from the community.
- 30:17You also didn't have like a
- 30:18big gathering area where in Wisconsin,
- 30:20it was so spread out.
- 30:22You had an indoor field, an outdoor field,
- 30:25walking stuff in between food booths,
- 30:28different things like that.
- 30:29We seating area where you
- 30:30could sit and like eat your
- 30:32lunch and like talk to friends and,
- 30:35There was none of that in Texas.
- 30:37It was all contained into
- 30:38either the arena with like,
- 30:41just like you would go to a
- 30:43concert with concessions
- 30:46and you go to your seat or
- 30:48you walk out the building
- 30:49and walk a block up the
- 30:50street to another
- 30:52convention center or vendor
- 30:54village community workouts
- 30:56and all that we're at.
- 30:57Yeah.
- 30:57That was not fun.
- 31:02And all of that was free.
- 31:04So ticket sales,
- 31:05while they said you had to
- 31:08have a ticket to get in, it was all free.
- 31:12I don't know.
- 31:13But then the outdoor event
- 31:15in the football stadium had
- 31:18like seventeen thousand people there,
- 31:19which is the most who have
- 31:21ever watched a Crockford event.
- 31:23Yeah.
- 31:26So I don't know.
- 31:27Yeah,
- 31:27I think it's too hard to compare
- 31:29these two years, this year.
- 31:34Jay Burch, there was a food court there,
- 31:35but not in the arena where
- 31:38the event was happening.
- 31:40Again, you had to leave and go to it.
- 31:48Yeah,
- 31:48the setup in Madison with the arena
- 31:50on one end and the field on
- 31:51the other end and
- 31:52everything in between sort
- 31:54of made that very cohesive.
- 31:55Yeah.
- 31:56Well,
- 31:56but it was cohesive too in the sense
- 31:59that the weather was more
- 32:01appropriate that you could
- 32:03walk that distance and be outside,
- 32:05you know, to have your meal.
- 32:11I don't know.
- 32:12I may get shit for this, but oh well.
- 32:14I didn't think the weather
- 32:15was that hot in Texas when we were there.
- 32:17Now,
- 32:18would I have wanted to go out and work
- 32:19out in the middle of that?
- 32:21Probably not.
- 32:22But walking from point A to point B. Okay.
- 32:26But Scott, just standing out,
- 32:31if there was a field,
- 32:32standing out on the field,
- 32:33we weren't even competing
- 32:34and we would be sweating our asses off.
- 32:37No,
- 32:37I'm not saying that like they should
- 32:39have competed outside.
- 32:40Yeah.
- 32:41I'm saying the walk,
- 32:42like you can't blame the
- 32:43weather for the walk to the other.
- 32:46No, I mean.
- 32:47To just kind of walk up the street.
- 32:49And vendor village was air conditioned.
- 32:52So,
- 32:52and the place where you could sit and
- 32:54watch in vendor village and
- 32:55eat was air conditioned.
- 32:57So like that part was way
- 32:58more comfortable.
- 32:59It was just, it just seemed so separate.
- 33:01Yeah.
- 33:03the other issue you had is
- 33:04security was so tight at
- 33:06both venues that the line
- 33:09to get in was super long.
- 33:14And if you had a bag,
- 33:15like they searched every inch of the bag.
- 33:22But
- 33:25there was part of me that
- 33:26thought like we're going to
- 33:27keep moving forward and,
- 33:30and people were just going
- 33:31to kind of not forget,
- 33:33but emotions would die down
- 33:36a little bit after the
- 33:37event and we would move
- 33:39into a season just like normal.
- 33:41But it does seem that like
- 33:42some athletes are still
- 33:45running high emotions on what happened.
- 33:49And Ariel even said at the beginning that,
- 33:53um,
- 33:56that she almost didn't go to
- 33:57the tear cup because there
- 33:59is a little bit of a,
- 34:00she thought there might be
- 34:01a divide with the athletes
- 34:05between those who stayed
- 34:07and those who left.
- 34:12Well, I'm glad she went.
- 34:12I'm glad that wasn't the,
- 34:13she found out that wasn't the case.
- 34:15Agreed.
- 34:19Mike,
- 34:19I'm not saying there wasn't food in
- 34:20the stadium.
- 34:21I'm saying there's not a food court.
- 34:23Like in Madison,
- 34:25there were a bunch of food
- 34:26booths and then picnic
- 34:27tables all over where it
- 34:30was a communal area to sit
- 34:32and eat your lunch or your
- 34:33dinner with friends.
- 34:36In Texas,
- 34:37you could go up and get your
- 34:38chicken fingers,
- 34:39but there was no place to
- 34:40like sit and hang out with
- 34:41a bunch of people.
- 34:43Unless you were media and
- 34:44you could go back in the
- 34:45media room and hang out with everybody.
- 34:53so so I do think it's going
- 34:57to move forward I do think
- 35:00the investigation may cause
- 35:02a bigger divide just
- 35:05because people are going to
- 35:06look for what they want to
- 35:07see and they're going to
- 35:09pick out the parts that
- 35:12meet their argument and I
- 35:14think for a brief time
- 35:16you're going to see more
- 35:17divisiveness on the internet
- 35:20I agree.
- 35:20Yes.
- 35:21And also because it's almost
- 35:23going to be like, you know,
- 35:25a re-trauma of it.
- 35:30And so I think for sure that will happen.
- 35:35Yeah.
- 35:37And then it's going to be a
- 35:38waiting period of getting
- 35:38through that again.
- 35:39Yeah.
- 35:40Agreed.
- 35:43regardless of which way they
- 35:45go in the investigation.
- 35:46Whatever the decision is,
- 35:48everybody's gonna find
- 35:49their parts that back their
- 35:51argument and then heads on
- 35:57a platter or everybody
- 35:59needs to stay and they're gonna, yeah.
- 36:05The last thing I'm gonna say
- 36:06about it is it's kind of
- 36:09mind boggling to me that
- 36:10Dave is taking the heat
- 36:13But he is the public face,
- 36:15but it doesn't mean he's
- 36:16the ultimate decision maker.
- 36:17Yeah.
- 36:19We keep saying it's a small team,
- 36:22but it is a big company.
- 36:24And that company is run by a
- 36:25CEO and a board.
- 36:28Dave can only do so much.
- 36:34true yeah right and that
- 36:35part just it baffles me a
- 36:37bit that it's all on him
- 36:40now if it comes out in the
- 36:41investigation that he was
- 36:43the one that put together
- 36:44the safety plan and all the
- 36:46stuff then then wrong on me
- 36:49but I don't I don't think
- 36:50it is and and he's not the
- 36:51kind of guy that's going to
- 36:52come out and tell you all
- 36:55the reasons why it's not
- 36:56his responsibility you know
- 36:58what I mean he's not he's
- 36:59not going to publicly do
- 37:00that that's just not his style um
- 37:07Yeah, I think we just got to wait and see.
- 37:09Like,
- 37:10do you think that it was his decision
- 37:11to move forward with the games or not?
- 37:13I don't know.
- 37:15Like it was Dawn's or the boards.
- 37:17Yeah.
- 37:18Hey, this is what we're doing.
- 37:19And then they put him out to
- 37:22take the heat.
- 37:22Yeah.
- 37:22Yes.
- 37:23I fully believe that as well.
- 37:29And so I think some things
- 37:30are just misguided.
- 37:33And the last thing I'm going to say,
- 37:34I swear to God,
- 37:34it's the last thing I'm going to say.
- 37:37The PFA keeps saying that
- 37:38nobody listens to them.
- 37:40And they talked about this
- 37:41on Spin last night a little bit.
- 37:43But last year,
- 37:43do you guys remember at the
- 37:45games that the PFA had a
- 37:47list of ten things that
- 37:48they wanted fixed or addressed?
- 37:51And CrossFit fixed or
- 37:54complied with eight of those ten items.
- 37:57And on the other two,
- 37:58they gave the PFA a reason
- 38:00why they couldn't switch it
- 38:02to what they wanted.
- 38:05Either it would, I think the risers,
- 38:07you couldn't stack them
- 38:08more than two or it was an
- 38:10insurance issue.
- 38:13And I can't remember what
- 38:14the other one was.
- 38:15But to come out and say that
- 38:17they never listen,
- 38:18there is evidence that
- 38:19CrossFit has listened and
- 38:21addressed issues in the past.
- 38:23Yeah.
- 38:27Just because they don't
- 38:28always say yes doesn't mean
- 38:29they're not listening.
- 38:31Yeah, I,
- 38:32I totally agree that it needs a
- 38:33statement like that.
- 38:34Yes.
- 38:35I get that all the time in my field.
- 38:36Yeah.
- 38:36Nope.
- 38:36I'm anxious to see what, what comes out.
- 38:55Yeah.
- 38:55So anyway,
- 38:57That's all out.
- 38:58The other thing that's out is this Monday,
- 39:00we have episode five coming
- 39:01out for masters behind the scenes.
- 39:04That's going along pretty good.
- 39:06Every, every third episode,
- 39:08I have to like sort the days folder.
- 39:11And then that, that,
- 39:11so this week is a lot harder.
- 39:13Just saying.
- 39:15They are getting better too.
- 39:16You, you are correct.
- 39:18Yeah.
- 39:19I mean, the first one was good.
- 39:20I thought, but yeah, you're,
- 39:22you're in the groove.
- 39:23I love it.
- 39:24Yeah, the first one was just, hey,
- 39:25you're here.
- 39:26How do you feel?
- 39:28You know, excited to be at the games.
- 39:30And now we're getting into, like, more.
- 39:32And it gets even better.
- 39:35Like, some of the best stuff is, like,
- 39:36Will Morad.
- 39:37And he doesn't even come until Saturday.
- 39:40And then again on Sunday.
- 39:41And then Val Vobrol.
- 39:43And some of those people, like,
- 39:45are just later in the weekend.
- 39:47Yeah.
- 39:48And I know they're sitting there.
- 39:50I just want them to kind of come out.
- 39:51But it just takes a while to get to them.
- 40:00so I have to I have to bolt
- 40:03I love you guys see you
- 40:03later bye um whoops that's
- 40:09big yeah I don't want to
- 40:10see that close please all
- 40:11right um so that's all I
- 40:15really have for this week
- 40:16unless you have something
- 40:17amy I do yeah your uh
- 40:20headline is what I was
- 40:23curious about because I had
- 40:24not seen any stuff from
- 40:26last night to know that so
- 40:28Yeah.
- 40:28If you go to barbell spin,
- 40:30the aerial interview is the first thing.
- 40:33Okay.
- 40:34And it's only about ten to fifteen minutes,
- 40:36maybe.
- 40:38And it's pretty good.
- 40:39Okay.
- 40:40And what it does is there
- 40:43just seems to be all this
- 40:44kind of like what happened
- 40:46from the moment the tragedy
- 40:48happened until they took
- 40:49the floor the next day.
- 40:50Yeah.
- 40:51And she's the first athlete to kind of
- 40:54Well,
- 40:54we've had Marco talk about it from a
- 40:56team perspective.
- 40:57Sure.
- 40:58And the night before,
- 40:59which I think she went into
- 41:00a little more detail about
- 41:02how the athletes felt and
- 41:05how some of the other ones
- 41:06wanted to compete and tried
- 41:08to earn the money.
- 41:09Yes.
- 41:10Yeah.
- 41:11And that's natural.
- 41:12There's going to be people
- 41:13who want to go on and do that.
- 41:15Mm-hmm.
- 41:18but yeah definitely go over
- 41:20to their I mean I watch The
- 41:22Spin every Wednesday night
- 41:23that is my go to bed show I
- 41:26watch them every week it's
- 41:28probably the one podcast I
- 41:31watch every single week
- 41:33because it's really good
- 41:34content especially in the
- 41:36first part of it every
- 41:37single week and now that
- 41:40John Young and I have made
- 41:41up and are friends again
- 41:44it's pretty good yeah
- 41:47So don't forget to like and
- 41:48subscribe to our channel.
- 41:49You guys are awesome.
- 41:50You make this the best every single week.
- 41:53And thank you to everybody
- 41:55about the insulin stuff
- 41:56that you talked about, I talked about,
- 41:58and that you congratulated me on.
- 42:00That means more to me than a
- 42:02lot of stuff to get rid of
- 42:04that one medication.
- 42:06Now I'm just going to work on the others.
- 42:09Yeah.
- 42:10With that,
- 42:11we will see everybody next time on...
- 42:15Glidesdale Media Roundtable.
