- 3:01Speaker 5: take a picture of you and post it on my
- 3:02Speaker 5: social media a little bit later, because you came in
- 3:04Speaker 5: here wearing this T shirt and you said, do you
- 3:07Speaker 5: know who this is? Because the face is missing and
- 3:10Speaker 5: it's just the top part in the bottom part, but
- 3:11Speaker 5: the face is missing. You said, do you know who
- 3:14Speaker 5: this is?
- 3:15Speaker 3: And I named it just like that because you are
- 3:17Speaker 3: the smartest, unbelievable person on the planet and we all
- 3:23Speaker 3: know that.
- 3:24Speaker 6: Well, well maybe, yeah, maybe you're right, you're right, but
- 3:28Speaker 6: it's again, I'll take a picture and see if you asking,
- 3:32Speaker 6: I'll go and tell you and no af you're listening,
- 3:33Speaker 6: and we'll let people on social media gets it.
- 3:36Speaker 5: You're rocking the Gilligan look today. But Gilligan doesn't have
- 3:39Speaker 5: a face. It's just the hat and the wide collars
- 3:42Speaker 5: from Gilligan's Island, but no face. Is that like an
- 3:44Speaker 5: editorial comment or something. Gilligan have face.
- 3:47Speaker 3: I bought the T shirt from his wife, who wrote
- 3:49Speaker 3: his life story right, and she and I were connected
- 3:54Speaker 3: through Kathy Teeth's from Headline Books. I did my Lean
- 3:57Speaker 3: and Luscious cookbooks and somehow her I think her name
- 4:03Speaker 3: is Drema Denver got involved with Kathy and we were
- 4:07Speaker 3: all at a bookseller's event and lo and behold, she
- 4:10Speaker 3: had a T shirt and I had to have it.
- 4:13Speaker 3: So this is that shirt.
- 4:15Speaker 5: It is a lovely, lovely shirt. And I guessed it
- 4:17Speaker 5: because you said that nobody else was able to guess who.
- 4:22Speaker 2: I mean.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I get people guessing everything under the sun, but not
- 4:26Speaker 3: Gilligan's Island.
- 4:27Speaker 5: That's because I got a head full of nothing.
- 4:29Speaker 3: That's what you said. You have a head full of useless.
- 4:31Speaker 5: And glorious results of a misspent youth. That's's and dream
- 4:36Speaker 5: Of Denver's been pretty funny. Dream Of Denver has been
- 4:38Speaker 5: on the show in the past. And then she's a
- 4:42Speaker 5: very very lovely person, one of my favorite people in
- 4:44Speaker 5: the world. And a great story with her in Bob Denver.
- 4:48Speaker 5: You know, they met on the set of The love
- 4:51Speaker 5: Boat because Dreama was an actress, and that's actually where
- 4:56Speaker 5: they met. They did an episode of the late seventies
- 4:58Speaker 5: of the love Boat TV show. If you or that
- 5:00Speaker 5: show from ABC.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Oh my god, my kids used to watch it Saturday night,
- 5:05Speaker 3: no matter what happened Saturday, that was their TV time.
- 5:09Speaker 5: Yeah, and that's where they met. They the Dreamer and
- 5:12Speaker 5: Bob met because they were both guests on The Loved
- 5:15Speaker 5: See more useless information fantastic.
- 5:19Speaker 3: I am I am so impressed. I can't sit here comfortably.
- 5:23Speaker 5: Yeah, don't ask me anything important. So well, what's on
- 5:26Speaker 5: your mind? What are you up to? What do you
- 5:27Speaker 5: want to talk about?
- 5:28Speaker 3: I want people to understand but I do and what
- 5:32Speaker 3: I It's not what I do. It's more the way
- 5:35Speaker 3: I eat, the way I live, the way I think.
- 5:39Speaker 3: And I want more people. There's room in my head
- 5:42Speaker 3: for more people to come on board and discover the
- 5:45Speaker 3: fact that they can not just lose weight. God knows
- 5:49Speaker 3: how many times people who are listening to this broadcast
- 5:53Speaker 3: have lost weight. They've lost it, but see they run
- 5:56Speaker 3: their own personal lost and Found department. They lose it,
- 5:59Speaker 3: they get they lose it, they gain it. It gets old.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Not only does it get old, but it gets depressing
- 6:05Speaker 3: when you stop dieting.
- 6:07Speaker 5: And it's also if I can jump in here, it's
- 6:08Speaker 5: also not healthy free because you're putting a lot of
- 6:12Speaker 5: strain on your heart when you're I mean, I got
- 6:15Speaker 5: a good friend of mine. I won't mention his name,
- 6:17Speaker 5: but he's a good friend of mine and takes it
- 6:19Speaker 5: upon himself. Every now and then he's going to go
- 6:21Speaker 5: on whatever diet it is. At the time, he'll gain
- 6:25Speaker 5: I mean he's ballooned up. He'll gain thirty pounds, and
- 6:27Speaker 5: then he'll lose forty, and then he goes off of
- 6:30Speaker 5: and he gains fifty, and then he loses sixty. And
- 6:33Speaker 5: it just goes back and forth. And his physician told him,
- 6:37Speaker 5: this is not healthy what you're doing to your body, and.
- 6:40Speaker 3: It's not healthy. And over the years of my life,
- 6:43Speaker 3: you know, it's been coined a lot with a lot
- 6:45Speaker 3: of names, but that's yo yo dieting, and it's dangerous now.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Right now, there are still lots and lots I don't
- 6:53Speaker 3: know the number people who are being romanticized with the
- 6:58Speaker 3: weight loss injections and they're not learning how to eat.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Although I wish everyone good health, but I'm kind of worried,
- 7:07Speaker 3: and a little bit more than worried, because there are
- 7:12Speaker 3: some unpleasant side effects that are beginning to be talked about.
- 7:16Speaker 7: And in the.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Process of however, you lose weight. At the end of
- 7:20Speaker 3: the day, we need to know how to eat. And
- 7:24Speaker 3: a lot of people have said to me in an
- 7:27Speaker 3: argumentative way.
- 7:28Speaker 8: I know how to eat.
- 7:29Speaker 3: I knew how to eat the minute I was born, well,
- 7:31Speaker 3: so did we all, but how to eat correctly? And
- 7:36Speaker 3: if you like, so many of us are under the
- 7:39Speaker 3: influence of not just your mother, but your grandmother, and
- 7:43Speaker 3: down the street it's your great grandmother, and we're eating
- 7:47Speaker 3: their way, and it's so easy to fall into a
- 7:50Speaker 3: weight problem. All my purpose is, and I want to
- 7:54Speaker 3: try to simplify it, is make the Mediterranean lifestyle the
- 8:00Speaker 3: way you eat, because it's healthy and it's clean, and
- 8:03Speaker 3: most doctors are recommending for us to check out Mediterranean.
- 8:08Speaker 3: We meet at the Goodwill Prosperity Center on the West Side.
- 8:12Speaker 3: We only at this present time have a Thursday morning meeting,
- 8:15Speaker 3: and I urge people if they are tired of dieting,
- 8:18Speaker 3: if they're tired of yo yoing up and down the
- 8:21Speaker 3: scale and also not feeling comfortable in their body, come
- 8:24Speaker 3: on board. Let's learn together. And we have lots of
- 8:28Speaker 3: success stories in our group, and I have the joy
- 8:32Speaker 3: of also showing various members how they can now maintain
- 8:39Speaker 3: their weight loss and keep it off. And there's nothing
- 8:43Speaker 3: sweeter than that, without any gimmicks, no tricks, just doing it.
- 8:47Speaker 3: With a new mindset and plenty of food to eat.
- 8:51Speaker 3: It doesn't get better than that.
- 8:52Speaker 5: It doesn't, indeed. Nine to sixteen Dave Allen showing five
- 8:55Speaker 5: A dy life brought to you part by Pinnacle Consultants
- 8:57Speaker 5: Services involved developing comprehensive management plans to outline strategies for
- 9:01Speaker 5: controlling and minimizing as best it's exposure. Perfect for commercial
- 9:04Speaker 5: property owners and managers. Visit Pinnacle Corp. Dot net. Because
- 9:08Speaker 5: what you don't know can't hurt you. One of the
- 9:10Speaker 5: things that I have Sometimes people will hear you on
- 9:12Speaker 5: the air with me and I'll run into them somewhere
- 9:14Speaker 5: and they'll say, well, when she says Mediterranean, what what
- 9:17Speaker 5: exactly are the Mediterranean foods? And there are several. It's
- 9:21Speaker 5: just it's not one of these things where you're only eating.
- 9:23Speaker 5: You can have these three things, you know, but what
- 9:26Speaker 5: give us an example?
- 9:27Speaker 3: Nothing we can't eat. But the reason for the Mediterranean
- 9:31Speaker 3: is that's the way people who live in that part
- 9:33Speaker 3: of the world, by it's t one hundred and eleven
- 9:35Speaker 3: million people, I think at the latest population count, they
- 9:38Speaker 3: eat clean, unadulterated food. When food comes out of our
- 9:44Speaker 3: side of the pond, there's chemicals, there's additives, there's stuff
- 9:48Speaker 3: in it that our body doesn't know what to do
- 9:51Speaker 3: with it, and it creates problems. Mediterranean eating is clean, fresh,
- 9:57Speaker 3: healthy food, and it's not a diet. It's a lifestyle.
- 10:01Speaker 3: And I want to be able to teach more and
- 10:04Speaker 3: more people the benefits of this so that they can
- 10:08Speaker 3: honor themselves. By the way, the company that supports Mediterranean
- 10:12Speaker 3: is called Old Ways out of Boston, and yes, Mediterranean
- 10:16Speaker 3: is pretty old because it's been around for centuries. I
- 10:20Speaker 3: jokingly say, I think this is the way Jesus say it,
- 10:23Speaker 3: unless you know the name of the supermarket he went to.
- 10:27Speaker 5: I just saw in the news that there was a
- 10:29Speaker 5: story that came out yesterday and it was one of
- 10:31Speaker 5: the major cereal manufacturers that are stopping with the dies
- 10:36Speaker 5: and things like that.
- 10:37Speaker 7: Now.
- 10:37Speaker 5: They probably really need to start with the sugar. That
- 10:39Speaker 5: would be the first place to get sugar. But the
- 10:42Speaker 5: dies are also an issue as well, and I think
- 10:45Speaker 5: several I think Cinemon Toast Crunch I think was one
- 10:48Speaker 5: of them, and there were several others that they've said
- 10:50Speaker 5: that effective in a couple of years are going to
- 10:52Speaker 5: stop using all the dyes and food because really, you know,
- 10:55Speaker 5: that's a problem as well.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Absolutely, and we put those dies in drinks so that
- 10:59Speaker 3: the children will be, oh, my goodness, this is an drink.
- 11:02Speaker 5: It's blue, and my.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Cereal is green and blue and orange, and we don't
- 11:07Speaker 3: realize what we're doing. Plus the plethora of candies and
- 11:12Speaker 3: snacks that are out there, come on. It's long term
- 11:18Speaker 3: bad eating and it takes a toll. And we don't
- 11:21Speaker 3: need to do that, but we don't know what else
- 11:23Speaker 3: to do. And I want to teach the other side.
- 11:26Speaker 5: Of what else.
- 11:28Speaker 3: And your classes are when Thursday morning ten o'clock. Their
- 11:32Speaker 3: modest fees apply. But the information we give not but
- 11:36Speaker 3: the information we give, and the information we give is stellar.
- 11:40Speaker 3: And the people that are on board with me are
- 11:43Speaker 3: doing well, getting good reports from their physicians and also
- 11:49Speaker 3: accomplishing weight loss.
- 11:51Speaker 5: All right, Millie, it's always a pleasure to have you

- 16:49Speaker 5: index over one hundred on Saturday, no rain in the forecast.
- 16:53Speaker 5: That's the way it's looking out. That's right.
- 16:54Speaker 11: Yeah, I was hoping you would say ninety which is
- 16:56Speaker 11: the official temperature day.
- 16:58Speaker 5: We'll go with ninety five. Well, you know, drink more
- 17:01Speaker 5: beer and drinks more water about it?
- 17:04Speaker 14: Yeah?
- 17:04Speaker 5: Yeah, So I will say this, This is fun. That's done.
- 17:07Speaker 5: We're talking about annual event that the folks at Charleston
- 17:09Speaker 5: Urban Works. Do it starts at three o'clock. There's an
- 17:11Speaker 5: added thing this year where they're doing like a VIP thing.
- 17:13Speaker 5: We'll get to that momentarily, but i'll tell you what
- 17:16Speaker 5: I'm going to do right now. I just happen to
- 17:18Speaker 5: have a couple of free passes for you to get
- 17:20Speaker 5: in to phone with the dome. And these tickets are normally.
- 17:24Speaker 11: These are VIP tickets, so they're normally fifty five dollars.
- 17:26Speaker 5: All right. I actually have two that I will give
- 17:29Speaker 5: away right now if your caller five and you can
- 17:32Speaker 5: call me up right now. Three zero four three four
- 17:34Speaker 5: five fifty eight fifty eight. Three zero four three four
- 17:37Speaker 5: five fifty eight fifty eight. Ryan Nicholson, Senior Producer, standing
- 17:39Speaker 5: by caller five. Right now, I will hook you up
- 17:42Speaker 5: with a couple of the VIP tickets we're looking for.
- 17:44Speaker 5: Caller five three zero four three four five fifty eight
- 17:47Speaker 5: fifty eight and call down and we'll get you in there.
- 17:51Speaker 5: So what's new this year? How many beers we got
- 17:52Speaker 5: this year?
- 17:53Speaker 11: We have over one hundred and sixty total beers this
- 17:55Speaker 11: year and over sixty brands of beer. So all Apple,
- 17:59Speaker 11: not all Apple, but certainly a ton of beers from
- 18:02Speaker 11: around the state of West Virginia and Appalachia, but all
- 18:04Speaker 11: also from around the country, so a little bit more
- 18:07Speaker 11: than we had last year.
- 18:09Speaker 9: We have.
- 18:10Speaker 11: As far as the VIP ticket that's concerned, you get
- 18:12Speaker 11: an extra hour of the event from three to four
- 18:14Speaker 11: and also access to our new VIP beer table. This
- 18:17Speaker 11: is something new we're doing this year, so exclusive beers
- 18:20Speaker 11: only available to our VIP wristband holders from three to
- 18:25Speaker 11: four and all throughout the entire event at the beer table.
- 18:28Speaker 5: Now you're also doing some stuff afterwards this year.
- 18:31Speaker 11: This is something they that's the other VIP perk is
- 18:33Speaker 11: called Foam after the Dome. This is brand new we're
- 18:36Speaker 11: doing this year. We've gotten fifteen different breweries, bars, restaurants
- 18:41Speaker 11: in the capital city to sign up to be official
- 18:43Speaker 11: venues for Foam after the Dome. Really, what they did
- 18:46Speaker 11: to sign up is they agreed to offer some food
- 18:49Speaker 11: and drink specials at their at their establishment from seven
- 18:52Speaker 11: pm that evening this Saturday to the close of their
- 18:55Speaker 11: of their business that night.
- 18:57Speaker 5: So who are some of those people? So good examples.
- 18:59Speaker 11: As far as DOWNWN is concerned, we have Groove, We
- 19:01Speaker 11: have Sam's Uptown Cafe, we have Five Street, we have
- 19:05Speaker 11: Black Sheep, we have Short Story Brewing. That's some of
- 19:10Speaker 11: the examples. Downtown on the west side we have the
- 19:13Speaker 11: Meetory wandering When's Meetory. We have the Wine Down, the
- 19:16Speaker 11: New Wine Place on the west side. On the east end,
- 19:19Speaker 11: we have the Red Carpet. We have Lee Street Lounge.
- 19:22Speaker 11: So yeah, that's a good example. A few more if
- 19:24Speaker 11: you go to our website or go to the social
- 19:26Speaker 11: media page, we have the full listing of all of
- 19:28Speaker 11: the Foam After the Dome participants this year fifteen different businesses.
- 19:32Speaker 11: So that's a really great perk as you get access
- 19:34Speaker 11: to these specials just by having your VP wristband on.
- 19:37Speaker 11: And we also want to encourage people to stay in Charleston.
- 19:39Speaker 11: You know, the phone mends pretty early at seven o'clock,
- 19:41Speaker 11: so we want people to stay in Charleston. We have
- 19:43Speaker 11: a lot of people that come in from out of
- 19:45Speaker 11: town and stay in hotels, but we also have a
- 19:46Speaker 11: lot of local folks. We want them to stay here
- 19:48Speaker 11: and we want them to go get dinner, want them
- 19:50Speaker 11: to have a few more drinks and enjoy the evening
- 19:52Speaker 11: and invest locally. Right, continue to invest back into your
- 19:55Speaker 11: local economy. So this is a really great way to
- 19:57Speaker 11: do that.
- 19:57Speaker 5: But Dave Alan Show on five eighty Live is brought
- 19:59Speaker 5: to you part by Bridge Valley offering custom Taylor Training
- 20:02Speaker 5: syst some black skilled graduates and apprenticeships for your company.
- 20:04Speaker 5: Visit Bridge Valley dot edu. And of course this is
- 20:06Speaker 5: a big fundraiser for Charleston Urban Works. Tell me about
- 20:10Speaker 5: Charleston Urban Works, which you guys do.
- 20:11Speaker 11: Yeah, So we formerly known as Charleston Main Streets as
- 20:14Speaker 11: you know, Dave, we were first formed in two thousand
- 20:17Speaker 11: and two as East End Main Street. West Side Main
- 20:20Speaker 11: Street was formed in two thousand and five. We merged
- 20:22Speaker 11: in twenty fifteen to create Charleston Main Streets and now
- 20:24Speaker 11: we've rebranded at Charleston Urban Works. Really our mission is
- 20:28Speaker 11: fully focused on the urban and economic revitalization of the
- 20:33Speaker 11: urban districts of Charleston, West Virginia. So that's the East End,
- 20:36Speaker 11: the West Side, and now we've just included we've just
- 20:38Speaker 11: added Canall City to our repertoire, if you will, You
- 20:41Speaker 11: and I we've talked about that a couple of weeks ago.
- 20:44Speaker 11: And so we really focus in public space enhancement projects,
- 20:49Speaker 11: that's you know, enhancing the public realm. We focus in
- 20:53Speaker 11: business development and advancement, initiative, shop local programs, that kind
- 20:56Speaker 11: of thing, events and marketing like we're seeing this Saturday
- 21:00Speaker 11: that bring open new eyes to our district and bring
- 21:02Speaker 11: people to the Capital city, and then increasing the engagement
- 21:06Speaker 11: across our volunteer base, across our business community with our
- 21:09Speaker 11: local officials, making sure that everyone understands the importance of
- 21:13Speaker 11: investing in your urban neighborhood business districts, because if you
- 21:16Speaker 11: don't have an strong urban core, you don't have a
- 21:18Speaker 11: strong capital city. So we're really proud of the work
- 21:21Speaker 11: we've done over the past now twenty three years in
- 21:24Speaker 11: our different iterations, and we're even more excited about the
- 21:27Speaker 11: future with this new restructuring and rebranding. With keeping our
- 21:31Speaker 11: events like Phone with the Dome and then in September
- 21:33Speaker 11: October West they're perfect ways to raise funds that are
- 21:38Speaker 11: directed right back into the community through frankly a really
- 21:43Speaker 11: fun time, right, So we're excited.
- 21:45Speaker 5: I want to say congratulations to Robert Ittings. He was
- 21:48Speaker 5: our winner and wanted a couple of those VIP passes. Robert, congratulations,
- 21:53Speaker 5: I know you will definitely have yourself a good time.
- 21:56Speaker 5: Talk about the number of people on average that come
- 21:58Speaker 5: out to this thing every year. Rick, Well, year we
- 22:00Speaker 5: sold out.
- 22:00Speaker 11: And I've been saying every time we come on air
- 22:03Speaker 11: during these interviews that we attribute some of that success
- 22:06Speaker 11: to our partnership with the WVRC and all the great
- 22:09Speaker 11: stations here here at WVRC.
- 22:11Speaker 5: But last year we did sell out. We want to
- 22:14Speaker 5: sell like, give me in.
- 22:14Speaker 11: Last year was almost fifteen hundred people. So we're hoping
- 22:17Speaker 11: for the same this year. I think we can probably
- 22:19Speaker 11: get there. I have no doubt we can. Ticket sales
- 22:22Speaker 11: look are looking pretty strong. You know, it's always interesting
- 22:24Speaker 11: in Charleston. Everybody kind of wasted the last minute, so
- 22:26Speaker 11: of course it makes folks like.
- 22:28Speaker 5: Us that are plenty of events.
- 22:30Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, but it's looking it's looking really promising, and
- 22:33Speaker 11: we get a lot of people who show up at
- 22:35Speaker 11: the gate because we don't increase the price at the gate.
- 22:36Speaker 11: We want to give everybody equal opportunities to get here,
- 22:39Speaker 11: get into the city and have a good time. And
- 22:42Speaker 11: I would say, to answer your question, we're probably gonna
- 22:44Speaker 11: get close to selling out, if not sell out.
- 22:46Speaker 5: All right, So somebody's listening right now, they say, well,
- 22:48Speaker 5: it sounds like a good time. Going to be out
- 22:50Speaker 5: on the boulevard, but I'm not. I'm not really a
- 22:52Speaker 5: beer person. That's fair, you say, Well, we have we
- 22:54Speaker 5: have selters.
- 22:56Speaker 11: We have some meeds which is sort of like wine
- 22:58Speaker 11: if you will. We have slushies this year. There's a
- 23:01Speaker 11: couple of different vendors doing slushies which they sound really good.
- 23:05Speaker 11: So there is something pretty much for everyone. Some ciders
- 23:08Speaker 11: as well, but we also have like nine really great
- 23:11Speaker 11: food vendors this year. We've added a few food vendors
- 23:13Speaker 11: this year, on top of some really great retail and
- 23:15Speaker 11: artists and nonprofit vendors that'll be there as well, and
- 23:19Speaker 11: there really is something for everyone. Also, we have really
- 23:22Speaker 11: great live entertainment on our East stage. We have Brenda
- 23:25Speaker 11: and the Boys and the Girl opening things up, and
- 23:27Speaker 11: then we have Emmy Davis closing out from five point
- 23:30Speaker 11: thirty to seven on our East stage, and then DJ
- 23:32Speaker 11: EJ will be performing the entire duration of the event
- 23:35Speaker 11: on our West stage.
- 23:36Speaker 5: Yeah, and you got in case you didn't catch up,
- 23:38Speaker 5: they're actually two different stages.
- 23:40Speaker 11: Yeah, that's something that we added that last year and
- 23:42Speaker 11: it was a huge We got so much good feedback
- 23:44Speaker 11: on that, and so we're keeping that we're keeping that
- 23:46Speaker 11: going because the length of the event itself, I mean,
- 23:48Speaker 11: it goes literally from almost Greenbrier Street to California Avenue.
- 23:51Speaker 11: And if people and truston are familiar with that, that's
- 23:53Speaker 11: the whole span of the Capitol complet run Capitol Building
- 23:56Speaker 11: where the dome is pretty much plus more so, if
- 23:59Speaker 11: you're at one end of the you won't be able
- 24:00Speaker 11: to hear the music at the others.
- 24:01Speaker 5: So yeah, we want to keep a vibe going no
- 24:04Speaker 5: matter where you're standing. And what about parking?
- 24:08Speaker 11: Free parking in the in the Capitol Garage, and there's
- 24:10Speaker 11: also parking all around the neighborhood, so there's ample parking
- 24:13Speaker 11: available with a pretty short distance to walk. And nobody's
- 24:16Speaker 11: really ever had an issue with parking in the house. No,
- 24:18Speaker 11: I mean, but just know that you know you're you're
- 24:21Speaker 11: not gonna be able to park like inside the gate.
- 24:25Speaker 12: So just that I was just going to say, speaking
- 24:28Speaker 12: of parking and speaking of maybe not being a beer person.
- 24:30Speaker 12: We also offer designated driver ticket for free, So if
- 24:34Speaker 12: you're bringing along someone that's going to be driving you
- 24:36Speaker 12: home who's parked in one of the free garages or
- 24:39Speaker 12: free spots, they can get in for free and wander around,
- 24:44Speaker 12: listen to the music, have a good time with their friends,
- 24:46Speaker 12: but then still get their people home safely.
- 24:49Speaker 5: That's a very important part of it too. And we
- 24:51Speaker 5: want to always always preach safety in these issues. And
- 24:54Speaker 5: we want everybody to come out and have a good time,
- 24:56Speaker 5: but you also want you to do it responsibly as well,
- 24:59Speaker 5: and we do not encourage at all you partaking and
- 25:03Speaker 5: then driving.
- 25:03Speaker 11: That's right that we made that decision a few years
- 25:05Speaker 11: ago to make sure that the the that that ticket
- 25:08Speaker 11: is free, the designated driver ticket is free. You get
- 25:09Speaker 11: a special red wrist band. You still have access to
- 25:11Speaker 11: the food vendors, to the entertainment. We just don't charge
- 25:14Speaker 11: you to come in. You just don't get access to
- 25:15Speaker 11: the beer. And then of course we as you heard
- 25:18Speaker 11: last year, we would say from stage several times, get
- 25:21Speaker 11: you know, make sure to Helen Uber, give see an
- 25:23Speaker 11: h a call, you know, or make sure you're with
- 25:25Speaker 11: your designated driver.
- 25:26Speaker 5: And that does that.
- 25:27Speaker 11: And this year that's not just for right after the event,
- 25:29Speaker 11: but also after during foam, after the dome as well.
- 25:33Speaker 5: All right, and so the growth of the craft beer industry, Rick,
- 25:38Speaker 5: I mean, it's just absolutely incredible. I mean, it's the
- 25:42Speaker 5: you know, it's grown like you wouldn't believe. And if
- 25:45Speaker 5: you study this stuff, as I know folks like you
- 25:48Speaker 5: do and Tim Brady and some of those other folks,
- 25:51Speaker 5: you see the all the attention that West Virginia is
- 25:55Speaker 5: getting on a nationwide stage. I mean weekly, every every
- 25:59Speaker 5: Friday has beer fried. When they talk about the various
- 26:01Speaker 5: craft beers that are available, West Virginia is right in
- 26:04Speaker 5: the middle of all of things. I mean, we're a
- 26:05Speaker 5: leader in this. Yeah, you know, it's interesting.
- 26:08Speaker 11: It's now been ten years since that really important bill
- 26:11Speaker 11: passed in our in our state legislature, and I was,
- 26:13Speaker 11: I was. I worked really hard with then Senator Walters
- 26:18Speaker 11: and a few other key delegates on and senators on
- 26:21Speaker 11: that bill. It was really kind of it was too pronged.
- 26:24Speaker 11: It was one to create incentives to expand and increase
- 26:28Speaker 11: the number of craft beer offerings in the state through
- 26:32Speaker 11: allowing for easier access for them to open a craft brewery,
- 26:37Speaker 11: and we saw that be very successful. And then also
- 26:40Speaker 11: which we never thought would be as big of a
- 26:41Speaker 11: deal as it was, was the growler the bill to
- 26:43Speaker 11: allow for seals for the filling of growlers in establishments
- 26:48Speaker 11: outside of just I think believe, I believe Class B
- 26:50Speaker 11: what the ABC considers, and getting those bills passed was
- 26:56Speaker 11: huge for seeing the growth of the craft beer industry
- 26:59Speaker 11: in the state of West Virginia. The reason we got
- 27:01Speaker 11: involved with that was because we wanted to see more
- 27:03Speaker 11: of those types of small businesses in our districts, not
- 27:05Speaker 11: just in Charleston and our districts, but certainly everywhere. We
- 27:07Speaker 11: wanted to make sure that that culture existed across the state.
- 27:11Speaker 11: And ten years later we're seeing to your point, I mean, yo,
- 27:14Speaker 11: I mean I would say that West Virginia certainly is
- 27:16Speaker 11: Charleston specifically, that's right.
- 27:18Speaker 12: Yeah, I mean I think I moved to Charleston in
- 27:21Speaker 12: twenty twenty, and not to get all weepy, but when
- 27:25Speaker 12: I walk downtown Brawley, Summer Street, Capitol Street, looking at
- 27:29Speaker 12: it now compared to when I moved here in twenty twenty,
- 27:31Speaker 12: of course, it was pandemic times, but even despite that,
- 27:34Speaker 12: they were just not as many. Obviously five Street short story,
- 27:38Speaker 12: those folks weren't there, and now it's everything is just alive.
- 27:43Speaker 12: You can tell they're people walking around with the new
- 27:46Speaker 12: PoTA rules. I mean, people are just so happy to
- 27:49Speaker 12: be out and about and I know those small businesses
- 27:51Speaker 12: are thriving.
- 27:51Speaker 5: So and one another thing I will point out, because
- 27:54Speaker 5: as you said, I'll be down there, all of our
- 27:56Speaker 5: stations are going to be there. Zero issues as far
- 27:59Speaker 5: as you know, I mean people so I don't want
- 28:01Speaker 5: to go, you know, all the stereotypes I don't want
- 28:04Speaker 5: to go, or there's gonna be a bunch of drunks.
- 28:06Speaker 5: I saw none of that, and there was absolutely there's
- 28:08Speaker 5: been zero arrests or anything like that. No issues at all.
- 28:11Speaker 11: Our target as far as our events are concerned, and
- 28:13Speaker 11: what will see bleed into the business districts for from
- 28:16Speaker 11: after the Dome, I mean our target audience, if you will,
- 28:19Speaker 11: for attendees really does it's like twenty one to sixty five.
- 28:22Speaker 11: I mean the range is huge, and you know, it's
- 28:26Speaker 11: a lot of folks who, you know, they're not there
- 28:28Speaker 11: to quote unquote party. They're not there to like you
- 28:30Speaker 11: know what. I don't know how to even word that.
- 28:33Speaker 11: I'll just say, to a party, it's not a frat party.
- 28:35Speaker 12: It's it's not I mean the colleagues and friends and
- 28:39Speaker 12: family just spending time together.
- 28:41Speaker 5: That's right.
- 28:41Speaker 11: Yeah, And they act the same way whenever they come
- 28:44Speaker 11: downtown because they're again they're coming to eat, they're coming
- 28:47Speaker 11: to socialize, to network, to visit family that's coming in
- 28:51Speaker 11: from out of town for this event. We've seen that
- 28:53Speaker 11: happen so many times. People use our event as a
- 28:55Speaker 11: reason to come into town to visit family. And so no,
- 28:59Speaker 11: there's been no issue all and we don't foresee anything.
- 29:01Speaker 5: And we had a texture since can designated drivers by
- 29:03Speaker 5: sodas like cokes and pepsis or things of that.
- 29:06Speaker 11: We don't actually want. We have free water, have a
- 29:09Speaker 11: ton of free water available. But but we we have
- 29:11Speaker 11: never added like the soda elementary okay event now, we
- 29:15Speaker 11: just never have done that. Actually no, but you could
- 29:16Speaker 11: bring it like you want to bring.
- 29:20Speaker 2: It in.
- 29:20Speaker 12: I mean, don't bring like a whole cooler.
- 29:22Speaker 5: Yeah, don't show up with your cooler a bud light.
- 29:25Speaker 11: There's no like sitting space at fun with the dome
- 29:27Speaker 11: for like the we don't allow coolers. But certainly if
- 29:30Speaker 11: you have your container, like your water bottle, whatever it is,
- 29:32Speaker 11: certainly you're.
- 29:32Speaker 5: Welcome to bring them all right, all right? Where can
- 29:35Speaker 5: people get tickets?
- 29:36Speaker 11: Foam CWV dot com is the fastest way to get
- 29:39Speaker 11: tickets Also there's up to date information almost daily on
- 29:42Speaker 11: the phone of the Dome so Facebook page right, But
- 29:46Speaker 11: we just revamped our whole websites and it's really cool,
- 29:48Speaker 11: so be sure to check it out. Foam CWV dot com.
- 29:51Speaker 11: All the information about the about the event is on.
- 29:53Speaker 5: The And I do want to throw this out there.
- 29:55Speaker 5: You mentioned the folks at five Street. I don't know
- 29:57Speaker 5: whether you're aware of this or not, but I'm going
- 29:59Speaker 5: to talk about this little bit later on on Friday night,
- 30:03Speaker 5: my man Steve Animal ninety eight seven the month and
- 30:05Speaker 5: now has his own Beer's right, It's called Animal Ale
- 30:08Speaker 5: and kind of get you ready for Foam with the Dome.
- 30:10Speaker 5: Five Street is going to have a big party to
- 30:14Speaker 5: launch Animal Ale, his own beer, six pm on Friday
- 30:20Speaker 5: night at five Street. So if you want to come
- 30:21Speaker 5: out again, I'll be there with the Mountain. We're looking
- 30:24Speaker 5: forward to seeing everybody out there for that. I never thought.
- 30:27Speaker 5: I guess the boys finally arrived. He has his own beer.
- 30:29Speaker 11: I was going to say, talk about goals that for me, Yeah,
- 30:33Speaker 11: Like I think I'd rather that than like any type
- 30:35Speaker 11: of lifetime achievement a word, right, like if I could
- 30:37Speaker 11: have a beer name after me like for imperpetuity. That
- 30:41Speaker 11: sounds that's perfect Steve aratulation, Steve.
- 30:43Speaker 5: Steve Animal beer. Somebody asked me the other day, I
- 30:45Speaker 5: haven't had a chance to sample it yet. I was

- 30:55Speaker 5: Somebody asked me what was like. I said, it's going
- 30:58Speaker 5: to probably have an odor of bad decisions because it's
- 31:02Speaker 5: Steve Animal, but other than that, it'll be delicious. I'm

- 31:45Speaker 5: ten years ago that you and I went through leadership
- 31:47Speaker 5: was Rginia.
- 31:49Speaker 11: I was thinking about that because that was all happening
- 31:50Speaker 11: at the same time.
- 31:51Speaker 12: I must have gone through leadership when you were like
- 31:53Speaker 12: five years older.
- 31:53Speaker 5: Yeah, that's how right, Go ahead, go ahead here now

- 35:39Speaker 5: and I'm gonna get into that a little bit later
- 35:41Speaker 5: on because a lot of businesses will be closed tomorrow, banks,
- 35:43Speaker 5: post offices, things of that nature. Juneteenth celebrations we'll be
- 35:46Speaker 5: going on across the country, including here in Charleston. And
- 35:49Speaker 5: I didn't, as I said earlier, Scheff Key is here.
- 35:52Speaker 5: I didn't really plan to make this the food and
- 35:54Speaker 5: Drink show. It just kind of fell that way. It
- 35:56Speaker 5: started with Millie Snyder and Inn fohone with the Dome
- 35:59Speaker 5: is Happy Saturday. Just had a Rick Cavanar and company
- 36:01Speaker 5: on talk about that. And now you're going to talk
- 36:03Speaker 5: about a little bit of the food aspects of Juneteenth,
- 36:05Speaker 5: right I sure am?
- 36:06Speaker 8: I mean who doesn't love food?
- 36:07Speaker 5: I'm a fan. Okay, See, I think I told you
- 36:10Speaker 5: this when you're in the Midday Show. I started eating
- 36:12Speaker 5: when I was really young and just never got out
- 36:14Speaker 5: of the habit, you know, and I'm probably gonna do
- 36:17Speaker 5: it as long as I live.
- 36:18Speaker 8: There was no body you had straight straight food.
- 36:20Speaker 5: Yeah, you get that boy chicken leg and he'll be fine.
- 36:24Speaker 5: He'll be fine. All right, So let's talk about what's
- 36:27Speaker 5: going on with the Juneteenth. So Tom, let me hold
- 36:29Speaker 5: on back up? Are you interrupt you here? Let's talk
- 36:33Speaker 5: about Juneteenth. What's the meaning to you?
- 36:35Speaker 16: Juneteenth to me is I always love to tell people
- 36:38Speaker 16: like it's a celebration of what African Americans are doing now.
- 36:41Speaker 16: So it's like the three c's culture, celebration and community.
- 36:45Speaker 16: That's what I'm all about, and so I love to
- 36:47Speaker 16: showcase what the great things that we're doing here in
- 36:50Speaker 16: West Virginia. Of course, you know, Juneteenth is when the
- 36:54Speaker 16: slaves really heard you know, okay, we're free now, but
- 36:56Speaker 16: it didn't get to everyone.
- 36:58Speaker 5: So people were still it wasn't posted on it int
- 37:00Speaker 5: come on.
- 37:00Speaker 16: Now there was a social media back then, and so like,
- 37:03Speaker 16: I just love to put a spotlight on African Americans
- 37:06Speaker 16: and all the great things that we're doing that we
- 37:07Speaker 16: can continue to do. Of course, I love to, you know,
- 37:09Speaker 16: showcase the history, but there's like, let's just focus on
- 37:12Speaker 16: what we're doing right now.
- 37:13Speaker 5: We're doing great things, all right. And again, so what's
- 37:17Speaker 5: going on locally here in Charleston.
- 37:19Speaker 16: So tomorrow I'm having the second annual West Virginia June
- 37:23Speaker 16: tenth Farm to Table Dinner. Like I said, I don't
- 37:25Speaker 16: know if many people know, but I became the first
- 37:27Speaker 16: African American and female chef to host the farm to
- 37:30Speaker 16: table dinner and celebration of the holiday at just twenty
- 37:33Speaker 16: six years old. I mean, I think that's a big mouthstone,
- 37:36Speaker 16: not just for myself but for the state of West Virginia.
- 37:39Speaker 16: And so tomorrow I'm putting on a four course dinner
- 37:42Speaker 16: and we can get straight into the menu.
- 37:43Speaker 8: If that sounds like.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Where is it?
- 37:44Speaker 5: Because I'll I'll get all messed up talking about the food.
- 37:47Speaker 5: I won't even tell people where it is.
- 37:48Speaker 8: Is at the Capital Market. It's on the pavilion.
- 37:50Speaker 16: They'll be outside, Okay, yeah, at the Capital Market from
- 37:54Speaker 16: six pm to eight pm.
- 37:55Speaker 5: All right, all right, now let's get to the menu.
- 37:57Speaker 8: Okay, let's get into many we're diving in.
- 37:58Speaker 16: So the first course is fried vegetarian chicken sandwich in
- 38:02Speaker 16: your probably like, what is that?
- 38:03Speaker 8: Okay?
- 38:03Speaker 16: Instead of using chicken, I'm gonna use mushrooms. I'm using
- 38:06Speaker 16: the Lion's main mushroom for one of my black farmers,
- 38:09Speaker 16: Michael Colbert. And that's gonna be on a plantain focasta bread.
- 38:13Speaker 16: So I'm making my own bread and it's gonna be
- 38:15Speaker 16: paired with some jerks law and some house pickles that
- 38:17Speaker 16: I'm gonna make. Let's dive into the second course. It's
- 38:20Speaker 16: gonna be a melon salad. I'm gonna have watermelon, cucumber,
- 38:24Speaker 16: feta crumble, pistachios, cherry tomatoes, and I'm gonna make alignment
- 38:28Speaker 16: vinagrette and a lot of that produce is gonna come
- 38:30Speaker 16: from McDowell County, which I was just there yesterday with
- 38:33Speaker 16: Jason Tart and Donny Harrison. And then a lot of
- 38:35Speaker 16: that produce is gonna come locally from Charleston, from Dureux
- 38:37Speaker 16: Miller's Delaware farm Garden.
- 38:39Speaker 8: On the west Side. Okay, third course is what I'm
- 38:42Speaker 8: like pumped about. But the fourth course too. I think
- 38:45Speaker 8: you'll love the fourth course.
- 38:46Speaker 5: I love the first two.
- 38:48Speaker 16: The third course is a grilled lamb and it's gonna
- 38:51Speaker 16: be paired with a sweet potato mash, collar greens, and
- 38:54Speaker 16: like a little spicy pepper sauce. So I love red meat,
- 38:58Speaker 16: like I was telling you when I was on from
- 38:59Speaker 16: Memorial Day, like I love.
- 39:00Speaker 8: To grow red meat. So lamb it is.
- 39:04Speaker 5: Okay, fourth course, this is for you. Okay, O three
- 39:09Speaker 5: but go ahead.
- 39:10Speaker 8: So Dancing Dog is making me.
- 39:12Speaker 16: Dancing Dog Cafe on the West Side is making me
- 39:14Speaker 16: a boozy peach Callbler ice cream, and it's gonna have
- 39:17Speaker 16: bisc Off cookies in it. It's gonna have some boozy
- 39:19Speaker 16: bourbon peaches in there. I'm gonna top it with some
- 39:22Speaker 16: pecans and some shaved coconut just to cool you.
- 39:25Speaker 8: Down for the evening.
- 39:26Speaker 5: Wow.
- 39:26Speaker 8: Yeah, let's bring it all together, bringing those bowl flavors.
- 39:30Speaker 5: And I mean it sounds like an incredible menu. And
- 39:32Speaker 5: it's happening over at the pavilion at Capitol Market. And
- 39:34Speaker 5: where do people get tickets?
- 39:35Speaker 16: Well, you can get tickets next year, but I'm happy
- 39:39Speaker 16: to say that this event is sold out.
- 39:41Speaker 5: So you're just teasing people right now. Sorry, Well we're
- 39:43Speaker 5: promoting for next year.
- 39:44Speaker 16: Yes, So this event will happen every single year on
- 39:48Speaker 16: June tenth, as long as I'm alive and I can
- 39:50Speaker 16: grace my presence in West Virginia.
- 39:52Speaker 5: And one of the great things I learned about you,
- 39:54Speaker 5: and again we're talking with Chef Key, is you're not
- 39:56Speaker 5: from here.
- 39:56Speaker 3: I am not.
- 39:57Speaker 16: I'm from Alexandria, Virginia. I originally came here because I
- 39:59Speaker 16: was going to go to West Virginia State University.
- 40:01Speaker 8: I was running away from home. How far could I go?
- 40:03Speaker 8: West Virginia was.
- 40:05Speaker 5: And you got here and you liked it so much
- 40:07Speaker 5: that you stayed.
- 40:08Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 40:08Speaker 16: I love West Virginia so much, and it hurts my
- 40:12Speaker 16: heart when I hear people who are from here who
- 40:14Speaker 16: speak down on it. It's so many beautiful things that
- 40:16Speaker 16: West Virginia has to offer. You just have to take
- 40:19Speaker 16: what it gives. And West Virginia has given me so much.
- 40:21Speaker 16: And I'm so proud to be here and to be
- 40:23Speaker 16: a leader here.
- 40:24Speaker 5: And I love the fact again you're a younger person
- 40:27Speaker 5: and you're not from here. The old saying goes, not
- 40:30Speaker 5: from here. But I got here as quickly as I could.
- 40:32Speaker 5: And you're here, and you're choosing to stay here.
- 40:35Speaker 8: Yes I could.
- 40:36Speaker 16: I told my friends all They're like, when you're going
- 40:38Speaker 16: to come back home or you know, I could run
- 40:40Speaker 16: back home whenever I want. But I feel like I
- 40:42Speaker 16: have a purpose and a mission to stay here, and
- 40:44Speaker 16: you know, put events like this one.
- 40:47Speaker 8: If not me, then who what is it that.
- 40:49Speaker 5: Makes West Virginia such a welcoming place?
- 40:51Speaker 15: Do you?
- 40:52Speaker 8: The people?
- 40:53Speaker 16: The people have wokened me, open arms. The support is
- 40:57Speaker 16: no second guess, no question, and that makes me want
- 41:01Speaker 16: to stay here. You guys enjoy me, and I enjoy.
- 41:03Speaker 5: That right and talk about what you do outside the
- 41:05Speaker 5: Juneteenth thing. Talk about your normal day to day.
- 41:08Speaker 8: My normal day to day.
- 41:09Speaker 16: I'm a market manager at MS Ruby's Corner Market. It's
- 41:11Speaker 16: Darrell Miller's Keep Your Faith Corporation market on the west side,
- 41:14Speaker 16: and so from the day to day, I imagine it
- 41:16Speaker 16: managing maybe five people in the market. We're doing a
- 41:19Speaker 16: lot of farming on Delaware Avenue. We actually have some
- 41:21Speaker 16: garden beds in the back that were actually starting to
- 41:24Speaker 16: get up. And so I do catering private chef. But
- 41:28Speaker 16: I guess now I'm an advocate for my community, which
- 41:30Speaker 16: I never would have imagined.
- 41:32Speaker 5: I would have been right, right, And so the whole
- 41:37Speaker 5: concept of Miss Ruby's Market I've had derel on. I
- 41:39Speaker 5: know you were on the you've been on before too.
- 41:41Speaker 5: It's an amazing, amazing concept.
- 41:43Speaker 8: I love what Daniell Miller is doing. I mean, he
- 41:45Speaker 8: just had a vision and he just made it real.
- 41:49Speaker 8: He made it into reality, and I just admire that
- 41:51Speaker 8: so much.
- 41:52Speaker 5: And imparting upon young people the I'm talking about way
- 41:57Speaker 5: younger than you. You know, young people, the pride that
- 42:01Speaker 5: you can take in growing your own stuff and we're
- 42:05Speaker 5: taking your own seeds and okay, yeah, I went to
- 42:07Speaker 5: I went to you know whatever grocery store and bought that.
- 42:09Speaker 5: That's fine, but I actually grew that. That's actually that's
- 42:12Speaker 5: actually mine.
- 42:13Speaker 16: I made that, and that's a rewarding experience. Sometimes I'm like,
- 42:16Speaker 16: don't water my plants. I want to water my plants.
- 42:18Speaker 16: But you know, like, that's how rewarding it is. You
- 42:20Speaker 16: can put you can sew a seed in the ground
- 42:22Speaker 16: and then just in a couple months, on a couple
- 42:24Speaker 16: of days, you see a sprout. That's how you sustain
- 42:27Speaker 16: on your own, just educating yourself on how to grow food.
- 42:30Speaker 5: And Durell told me when I had him on the show,
- 42:32Speaker 5: he said, that's when I saw that light bulb go off,
- 42:35Speaker 5: you know, because people are thinking, Avis, this is corny,
- 42:38Speaker 5: no pun intended, I don't want to be involved in this.
- 42:39Speaker 5: And then when they said, wait, hold up, I did
- 42:42Speaker 5: that exhibited the light bulb. Man, it goes off, all right.
- 42:45Speaker 5: So we got activities going on, of course on Friday
- 42:49Speaker 5: as well. I had Ray whiteing on the show early
- 42:50Speaker 5: this week to talk about all those activities. I got
- 42:52Speaker 5: a little little graphic post on my social media about that.
- 42:55Speaker 5: But your event is actually on juneteenth.
- 42:57Speaker 8: On June teeth.
- 42:58Speaker 16: If I'm going to celebrate June teeth, I'm going to
- 43:00Speaker 16: celebrate on June tenth.
- 43:02Speaker 7: On the day, all right.
- 43:04Speaker 5: And it's a capital market. Unfortunately, it is sold out.
- 43:06Speaker 8: It is sold out.
- 43:07Speaker 16: I'm sorry, but you can look forward to, you know,
- 43:09Speaker 16: some news maybe next week or at the dinner I'll
- 43:11Speaker 16: post you know, Hey, I'm we're getting ready for the
- 43:14Speaker 16: third annual June tenth from the Table dinner.
- 43:16Speaker 8: You can get your tickets in the next couple of months.
- 43:17Speaker 5: Get your tickets now. You're doing some incredible things out there, girl.
- 43:20Speaker 5: I appreciate you being here. Thank you for having me
- 43:22Speaker 5: all right again. The event is happening on Juneteenth tomorrow
- 43:25Speaker 5: over at Capitol Market and of course in the city
- 43:27Speaker 5: of Charleston. There's all kinds of stuff going on on
