- 1:00Hey, y'all, welcome today's ship. I want to wrap up this series
- 1:04on the sacraments, finishing what the early church fathers said about the sacraments,
- 1:11and then I'm probably gonna get into something a little bit unexpected. You know,
- 1:18the televangelist, I guess, Pentecostal minister pat Robertson died today. And
- 1:26you know, although I certainly differ with him, differed with him on doctrine
- 1:34and theology, I had a great deal respect for the man, and he
- 1:38was actually very integral in my life. And I'm gonna tell you a little
- 1:46story after I finish up the Sacraments on exactly the role pat Robertson had in
- 1:53my life. And if you haven't heard the story before, it's probably gonna
- 1:57surprise you. We're talking. It's up the miraculous actually, So let's go
- 2:01ahead and get into what Saint Ignatius, What Saint Ignatius said to the church
- 2:09and Smyrna about those who doubted the real presence of Christ's body and blood in
- 2:15the Eucharist. Now, Saint Ignatius was writing I'm just gonna say around one
- 2:22hundred, okay, I mean, he was really one of the very first,
- 2:27you know post apostolic writers. But he died a martyr and a very
- 2:31heroic, very heroic saint. He said, they that abstain from the Eucharist
- 2:40and from prayer because they confess not the Euchrist to be the flesh of our
- 2:45Savior, Jesus Christ, which suffered for our sins, and which the Father
- 2:49of his Goodness raised up again. Those therefore who speak against this gift of
- 2:53God incurred death in the midst of their disputes. But it were better for
- 3:00them to treat it with respect, that they might rise again. It is
- 3:02fitting, therefore, that you should keep aloof from such persons, and not
- 3:07to speak of them, either in private or in public. But to give
- 3:10heed to the prophets and above all to the Gospel, in which the passion
- 3:15of Christ has been revealed to us and the resurrection has been fully proved.
- 3:19But avoid all divisions as the beginning of evils. So they're saying. Natius.
- 3:25He was bishop over the Church and Spurnings, bishop over several churches.
- 3:30He wrote many letters, and he always emphasized unity. There was to be
- 3:35no division, no schism whatsoever. He made explicitly clear in his writings there's
- 3:43only one church, It's the Catholic Church, and anyone who differed from the
- 3:47teachings of the Catholic Church was to be essentially ostracized. He said, keep
- 3:54aloof from such persons, and do not speak to them, either in private
- 4:00or in public. These would, you know, presumably be professing Catholics who
- 4:05doubted the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Very actually very strong words.
- 4:13Not as strong as you know Saint Paul, who said, give those
- 4:16people over to Satan, in other words, excommunicate them, but strong words.
- 4:20Nonetheless, Saint Justin Martyr wrote to the authorities of then still pagan Rum.
- 4:29You know, Rome did not become Christian nations in the three hundreds,
- 4:31And of course Rome spent a lifetime slaughtering Christians. I mean they've fed him
- 4:36the lions and crucified Christians and did everything he could to try to destroy Christianity.
- 4:43That's why it was called Babylon in in the Book of Revelation it was
- 4:47code word for run. Of course, with you know Charlemagne and Constantine,
- 4:54the Holy Roman emperors, Rome became the greatest well, Rome became the only
- 5:00Christian nation on earth. There was only one Church, and it was based
- 5:03in Rome under Saint Peter and under Saint Pope say Clement and Nike on.
- 5:10You know the list of the first popes. And yes, they were in
- 5:14Rome. And as I've said many times, even though for some reason protests
- 5:16deny it, Saint Peter's Basilica is built on the grave of Saint Peter.
- 5:23When they were doing excavations, they found his grave right under the altar.
- 5:27I mean, for some reason, pricess to this day will say, well,
- 5:30Peter was never in Rome. Well how do you know that. Well,
- 5:31the Bible doesn't Saint Peter was in Rome. Well, okay, the
- 5:35Bible is not a history book. It wasn't a newspaper. It didn't record
- 5:40every single thing that happened there. Certainly enough other texts, contemporary, even
- 5:47secular, even non Christian people opposed to Christianity documents that say, yes,
- 5:55Peter was in Rome, and Peter was crucified upside down own as a Christian
- 6:00martyr by the Romans in Rome. So you know, I don't know why
- 6:04that's an issue to anyone it said, honestly that that's inexplicable to me.
- 6:13I mean, I can't if if the Bible is to say, you know,
- 6:16Saint let's just pick one. For instance, where does the Bible say
- 6:20Saint Jude, my name Saint. Where was Saint Jude when he died?
- 6:26The Bible say so, if contemporary source comes up and say Saint Jude was
- 6:30in well, I don't care if it was Rome or Smyrna or Turkey,
- 6:34I mean we or whatever, then why would I doubt that Saint Jude was
- 6:39in whatever place it was recorded where he was. I believe he was martyred
- 6:44actually and died. Um. Yeah, yeah, he was a martyr.
- 6:47Um. Why would I doubt that just because it's not mentioned in the Bible.
- 6:54You know, the Bible also says Jesus did many other things, and
- 6:58all the work the book in the world couldn't contain what he said. You
- 7:02know, this whole idea of the Bible alone is the only authority ones is
- 7:06to believe. It just doesn't stand up to reason, you know, for
- 7:12simply for the fact that, for one, the Bible said Jesus did other
- 7:15things that aren't recorded in the Bible. But you know also the fact that
- 7:19the Bible's not a complete exhaustive history. It's a I mean the Bible actually
- 7:28says these things recorded so that you may believe. In other words, only
- 7:32what's presented in the Bible is presented for the purpose of causing you to believe
- 7:40in God. It's it's not a history book. It is, to some
- 7:44extent there's history in it, but it's not exhaustive. Like I said,
- 7:46it's not a newspaper. It's not the you know, the happenings of the
- 7:51day, recorded day by day for ten thousand years. No, it's not.
- 7:57But anyway, I mean, and you know, you also got to
- 8:01look at what a copy of the Bible do you have. Do you have
- 8:03a Protestant Bible where Martin Luther cut out every book that he didn't agree with.
- 8:07Speaking of Pat Robertson, I'll never forget one show he said that Jesus,
- 8:15our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ was the only person in history to
- 8:18ever be named Jesus. Well, not true. Actually, Jesus Hebrew,
- 8:26as our Torah observant and seven day ad venice brothers and sisters would tell us
- 8:33is yes, Shua Yeshua is Hebrew for Joshua. So not only was Joshua
- 8:41who fit the Battle of Jericho. You know, not only was Joshua had
- 8:48the same name as Jesus, but if you had a complete Bible, you
- 8:52would find I guess is Ciac or Wisdom. I don't have my Bible right
- 8:58at hand. Well, actually do, but I don't have time to flip
- 9:01through it while I'm doing a podcast. It's either Sierrac or Wisdom, both
- 9:05of which are books that Martin Luther's side didn't need to be in the Bible,
- 9:09because you know, he thought he had all authority. The author of
- 9:13the book was named Jesus, actually j E s u s or you know
- 9:20Yeshua in Hebrews. So without a Catholic Bible one, you don't have the
- 9:26knowledge of everything that's in the Bible without a knowledge of history, much of
- 9:35which we can get from the writings of the early Church fathers, the writings
- 9:39of the saints through the ages, the writings of the various popes and bishops,
- 9:43the tradition of the Catholic Church. How do you know what happened five
- 9:52hundred years ago? How do you know what happened five thousand years ago?
- 9:56You don't unless somebody wrote it down and told you about it. And just
- 10:00because not in the Bible doesn't mean it didn't happen. So anyway, Saint
- 10:05Justin Martyr wrote to the well, okay, so Saint Justin Martyr writing to
- 10:13the authorities of Rome was of course trying to convince him not to kill Christians,
- 10:18but he would gladly was martyred. He was a great example of the
- 10:22faith, and he was, you know, really our first what we would
- 10:26call an apologist, someone who explained Christianity to the Romans, to the Greeks.
- 10:35He had a long conversation with a Jew named Tyro who apparently converted to
- 10:41Christianity thanks to Saint Justin Martyr being able to counter his every argument. And
- 10:50really, gosh, I wish more people could read that, because so many
- 10:56of the confusion and the heresies and the divisions of this day would be cleared
- 11:01up if people just wrote, I have just read what Saint Justin Martyr explained
- 11:07to a well meaning, intelligent Jewish man who went into the conversation thinking that
- 11:15Christianity was absurd and heretical and absolutely evil. Actually, and Saint Justin Martyr,
- 11:24who apparently memorized the entire Old Testament word for word. Before then,
- 11:31he had been a philosopher in the Greek tradition. He had studied, you
- 11:35know, Socrates and you know all those guys, I mean, every school
- 11:39of Greek philosophy before becoming convinced that Christianity was the only truth. And so
- 11:50with the precision and the intelligence of a Greek philosopher. Of let's see,
- 11:56he lived between one hundred and sixty five a D. So of you know,
- 12:01somewhere around one fifty a d. You know, they wrote some of
- 12:05the greatest works, and I mean, gosh, I mean the Greek philosophers.
- 12:13We still study them today as just you know, brilliant people who employed
- 12:18logic to discover the nature of man and the secrets of the universe. Well,
- 12:24you know, Saint Justin Martyr was one of them, and he became
- 12:28a Christian, and he sits down with Tyro and his friends and he just
- 12:33explains in exquisite detail how the Old Testament describes the Christ, and how Jesus
- 12:43must have been the Christ for the Messiah, and why we no longer follow
- 12:48the Mosaic law other than the ten Commandments, you know, why no longer
- 12:52did we go to church on you know, observe the Jewish Sabbath. I
- 12:56guess I should say, you know why, and they no longer practiced circumcision
- 13:03or not eating poor can shellfish. The Jewish dietary laws, etc. Etc.
- 13:07All the feast days and holidays, the holy days of the Jewish tradition
- 13:13no longer applied to the Christian And that was a huge, huge issue for
- 13:18the Jews, of course, because I mean to follow the law was to
- 13:22follow the law to the letter. And from the very beginning here was Jesus
- 13:26and his apostles not observing the sabbath, you know, picking grain on the
- 13:31sabbath, healing people on the Sabbath. And when confronted, Jesus said,
- 13:37the son of Man is lord at the Sabbath. He called himself the son
- 13:43of Man. He was the God. He is the God who was the
- 13:48word incarnate. The very law itself is his word, and he's the lord
- 13:54of it. And when he said, you know, he rose on say.
- 14:01And when he and his church decided we would hell brate the Sabbath on
- 14:05Sunday, I ask the end of the argument. You know, when God
- 14:09says it, it's true, because God can't lie. Jesus did not say
- 14:13specifically in the Bible, you will no longer celebrate the Jewish Sabbath, you
- 14:18will observe Sunday. He said to his apostles, those who hear you,
- 14:22hear me. Those who reject you reject the one who sent me. He
- 14:28gave them the authority to bind and loose. If Saint Peter, along with
- 14:33the other eleven apostles, you know, once Judas was replaced by Matthias,
- 14:39said it it was as binding as the very words of Jesus Christ, because
- 14:45he gave them that authority and that power. And you know, if you
- 14:48don't believe that, how do you believe the Bible? Because they're the authors
- 14:52of it? I mean, seriously, if you cannot believe the didac which
- 14:58says specifically, we go church on Sunday, which was written by the apostles,
- 15:03or at least dictated with their authority, and then that's what Dak means.
- 15:07It's the teaching of the twelve. How can you believe the Bible?
- 15:13If Jesus didn't give his apostles that authority, then you have no foundation on
- 15:18which to base your belief. If they could be wrong on one point,
- 15:24they could be wrong on another point. If they lied, they could be
- 15:26lying the whole way. We only know about Jesus because the apostles wrote the
- 15:33New Testament. Same apostles wrote the dak and said, go church on Sunday,
- 15:39and it's actually Jesus's body and blood in the Eucharus, which Jesus also
- 15:41said in the Bible. And you have to be baptized, which Jesus also
- 15:45said in the Bible. You know, if preturn is simple, actually,
- 15:48if you don't busy yourself protesting against the truth, the truth becomes very plain.
- 15:56You know. That's what Protestantism means. It means to protest one who
- 16:02protests well anyway, Saint Justin Martyrs said, I will also relate in the
- 16:07manner in which we dedicate ourselves to God when we have been made new through
- 16:11Christ. Lest if we omit this, we seem to be unfair in the
- 16:15explanation we are making. As many as are persuaded and believe that what we
- 16:19teach and say is true and undertake to be able to live accordingly, are
- 16:23instructed to pray and entreat God with fasting for the remission of their sins that
- 16:27are past. We praying and fasting with them. Then they are brought by
- 16:33us where there is water and are regenerated in the same manner in which we
- 16:37ourselves who are regenerated. In other words, they're baptized for in the name
- 16:42of God, the Father and the Lord of the universe, and our Savior,
- 16:45Jesus Christ, and of the Holy Spirit. They then receive the washing
- 16:51with water. For Christ said, except ye be born again, ye shall
- 16:55not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Here we are one fifty eight. And
- 17:00Christians knew the meaning of that praise, the meaning of those words in the
- 17:06Bible. Except you be born again of water and the spirit, you may
- 17:11not hear the Kingdom of Heaven. There's so many, I mean, not
- 17:15even just like the fringe anymore. There are practicing you know, Baptists and
- 17:22Presbyterians and Lutherans and Methodists and mainline Protestant denominations that people where people are now
- 17:30arguing that baptism is just symbolic and not necessary. I had a conversation with
- 17:37one of my Catholic writer friends at Missy O'Day the other day, and he
- 17:40said, unfortunately, many Catholics don't understand the efficacy of the sacrament. They
- 17:45think it's more symbolic. No, Jesus actually said, unless you're baptized,
- 17:53that you're not going You've got to be baptized. He didn't say it's optional,
- 18:00you know. He also said, unless you eat my body and drink
- 18:03my blood, you have no life in you. So when priests to say
- 18:06you must be born again, and you just say to them, I am
- 18:10I am born again. I'm baptized. That's what it means. That's what
- 18:12it is said in the Bible. Moreover, I eat the body and blood
- 18:15of Christ. I am filled with the grace of God. And I actually
- 18:21do what Jesus said, not what you know, somebody thinks he might have
- 18:26said. I actually follow his actual words. So Saint Justin marges On now
- 18:33that it is impossible for those that have been once born to enter into their
- 18:36mother's wombs, as manifested the awe to all, and how those who have
- 18:41sinned and repent shall escape their sins is declared by Asas the Prophet. As
- 18:47I wrote above, he thus speaks, wash you, make you clean,
- 18:51put away your evil, the evil of your doings from your soul. Learn
- 18:55to do well, judge the fatherless, and plead for the widow. And
- 18:57come to let us read heason together saith the Lord. And though your skins
- 19:03be as scarlet, I will make them white like wool. And though they
- 19:07be as crimson, I will make them white as snow. But if you
- 19:11refuse and rebel, the sword shall devour you. For the mouth of the
- 19:14Lord hath spoken it. Well, that's kind of a strong statement, isn't
- 19:21quoting? I guess this is Isaiah. He spelled an E S A I
- 19:25A S, which I believe is the old spelling of Isaiah. He said,
- 19:33washy, that means be baptized, repent of your sins, change your
- 19:37ways, And if you refuse and rebel, the sword shall devour you,
- 19:44for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. Also interested in this passage,
- 19:48I have forgotten so many times people attributed to Abraham Lincoln the words come,
- 19:56let us reason together. He was actually quoting the Bible, and he
- 20:03didn't come up with that phrase. But a lot of times people say that,
- 20:06And that's neither here nor there. This is an aside, and okay,
- 20:11and Justine murges on. And for this right we have learned from the
- 20:15apostles this reason, since in our birth we were born without our knowledge or
- 20:19choice, by our parents coming together, and we were brought up in bad
- 20:22habits and wicked training, in order that we may not remain the children of
- 20:27necessity and of ignorance, but may become the children of choice and knowledge,
- 20:32and obtain in the water the remission of sins formerly committed. There is pronounced
- 20:37over him who chooses to be born again and has repented of his sins.
- 20:41The name of God, the Father, the Lord of the universe, who
- 20:45leads them, who leads to the lab that means washing, essentially labor.
- 20:53It's an old term, the person that is to be washed, calling him
- 20:59by his name one, for no one can utter the name of the ineffable
- 21:03God. And if anyone dared to say that there is a name, he
- 21:06raves and with a hopeless madness. And this washing is called illumination, because
- 21:12they who learned these things are illuminated in their understanding. And in the name
- 21:17of Jesus Christ, who is crucified and conscious pilot, and in the name
- 21:19of the Holy Ghost, who through the prophets foretold all things about Jesus,
- 21:25he who is illuminated is washed. I mean that says it as clearly as
- 21:30going to be again. This is one fifty eight d. Saint Justin Martyr
- 21:36I believe he was actually confirmed by Saint Peter, if memory serves. I
- 21:40mean, he knew the apostles, he learned from the apostles, and he
- 21:48makes you know, absolutely clear. And it's really very interesting here saying that
- 21:55one who is baptized is illumined. You know, Baptism opens one to the
- 22:00Holy Spirit, and without the Holy Spirit, you can't understand the Bible,
- 22:10the scriptures, the Word of God, I mean, etc. You know,
- 22:14people say, well, you know, okay, so when asked,
- 22:18Jesus said, of the Jews, they have Moses and the Law. But
- 22:22you go through the Bible from you page one Genesis to the end, and
- 22:27you see the Jews are constantly getting it wrong, screwing up. I mean,
- 22:33you know literally. You know, it's said by theologians and such that
- 22:37God chose the Jewish people to be as chosen people because they were the most
- 22:41falliable people on earth. I mean, just the same way Jesus chose Saint
- 22:47Peter to be the pope because he was like the guy who was going to
- 22:51mess up the most. And you know, the Bible says God raises up
- 22:56the weak to confound the strong, the intelligent to confound the intelligent. That's
- 23:02you know, that's what God does. And I think I'm not saying anything
- 23:06bad about Jewish people. It actually probably my Jewish friends are some of the
- 23:10most intelligent, interesting, talented, funny people on earth. But no,
- 23:15they're pretty very proud of saying. You know, God chose the smallest,
- 23:18the weakest, the most valuable tribe as his chosen people. And but why
- 23:26did the Jews crucified Jesus. Well, they did so because they didn't understand
- 23:30the scriptures. They didn't have the Holy Spirit. Whenever the Holy Spirit came,
- 23:36he was speaking through a prophet, and most times they went and killed
- 23:38the prophet stone and to death beat him if they listened to him. They
- 23:42didn't listen to him for long. It's because without the Holy Spirit, you
- 23:47cannot understand the word of God. But Saint Justin Marra went on said,
- 23:53but we, after we have been thus washed him who is convinced and had
- 24:00ascended to our teachings, bring him to the place where those who are called
- 24:03brethren are assembled, in order that we may offer hearty prayers in common for
- 24:07ourselves and for the baptized illuminated person, and for all others in every place
- 24:11and that we may be kind worthy now that we have learned the truth by
- 24:15our works, also to be found good citizens and keepers of the Commandment,
- 24:19so that we may be saved with an everlasting salvation. Having ended the prayers,
- 24:23we salute one another with a kiss. There is then brought to the
- 24:26President of the Brethren bread and a cup of wine mixed with water, and
- 24:32he, taking them, gives praise and glory to the Father of the universe,
- 24:36or the same son and the whole of the Holy Ghost, and offers
- 24:38thanks a considerable length for our being counted worthy to receive these things at his
- 24:42hand. And when he has concluded the prayers and thanksgiving, all the people
- 24:48expressed their assent by saying amen. The word amen in Hebrew means so be
- 24:55it. And when the President has given thanks, all the people of hispressor
- 24:59are sent those who are called by us deacons. Give to each of those
- 25:03present to partake in the bread and wine mixed with water, over which the
- 25:07thanksgiving is pronounced. And to those who are absent we carry away a portion.
- 25:12Okay, he's just basically said. After baptism, they pray over the
- 25:15person and he's confirmed, and then they have the Eucharist. And isn't that
- 25:21interesting that even in one fifty a d. They were taking the Eucharist to
- 25:26the sick. You know how we have the extraordinary ministers who take the Eucharist
- 25:32to people who can't go to Mass. That's how important it is. And
- 25:36he said the food is called among us. I can't pronounce Greek, but
- 25:41he puts in parentheses the Eucharist. Yeah, I'm not even gonna try to
- 25:45pronounce what it is in Greek, of which no one is allowed to partake.
- 25:48But the man who believes that the things which we teach are true,
- 25:52and who has been washed with the washing that is for the remission of sins
- 25:56and unto regeneration, and who is so living is Christ has enjoyed for not
- 26:00as common bread and common drink, till we receive these, but in like
- 26:04manner as Jesus Christ, our Savior, having been made fleshy, the Word
- 26:08of God, had both flesh and blood for our salvation. So likewise we
- 26:12have been taught that the food which is blessed by prayer of His word,
- 26:17and for which our blood and fresh by transmutation or nourish transmutation. It's an
- 26:21interesting word by the way is the flesh and blood of that Jesus who was
- 26:26made flesh. The early Church believed fully that the Euchurus was the flesh and
- 26:32blood of that Jesus who was made flesh. For the Apostles and the memoirs
- 26:37composed by them, which are called the Gospels, have thus delivered unto us
- 26:41what was enjoined upon them. That Jesus took the bread, and when he
- 26:45had given thanks, he said, this du ye, in remembrance of me,
- 26:48this is my body. And for the same member manner, having taken
- 26:52the copingham thanks, he said, this is my blood, and gave it
- 26:56to them alone. It's very important because proximally one fifty the Bible had not
- 27:03been comprised, it had not been put together. There was no Bible.
- 27:07There was only the memoirs essentially of the Apostles and the words they spoke.
- 27:15And here's Saint Justin Martyr one or so saying, this is what all Christians
- 27:19believe, just like in the DK, this is the body and blood of
- 27:26Christ, and only the baptized, only the confirmed, only those who've been
- 27:30to confession should receive it. You know. Catholic teaching of the sacraments absolutely
- 27:38remains unchanged. I mean, that's evidence. One of the biggest proofs of
- 27:45Catholicism is it's the only church that's been around since the day Jesus founded and
- 27:52teachings that are this important have not changed. You can look at as the
- 27:56Church still teach what the apostle said. Yes, the church just still teaches
- 28:00what the apostle says. Only a member of the Catholic Church can receive the
- 28:03eucharists, which is also known as the Holy Communion. One who cuts himself
- 28:07off from the graces offered by Christ through his church may be excommunicated, which
- 28:14means prohibited from receiving communion. That's what Saint Paul said. Let that man
- 28:19be unto you as a pagan. He is no longer to take part in
- 28:22the sacraments. Father Sparago explain a good Catholic ought also to hear the word
- 28:30of God, receive the necessary sacraments, take part in divine service, and
- 28:36he has a right to a Christian burial, etc. The Church forces nobody
- 28:40to enter its pale, but whoever becomes a member of his own free will
- 28:45and remains so must be subject to the laws of the Church. Under certain
- 28:48circumstances, those who disobey the laws of the Church are excommunicated or shut out
- 28:53from the Church. They lose their claim to the spiritual goods of the Church.
- 28:56They may not join in the Divine Service, nor see the sacraments,
- 29:00nor an office in the church, nor Christian burial. Some offenses include excommunication
- 29:07ipso facto, which means just by their act, okay, for instance,
- 29:11apostasy dueling. Now, did you know dueling is actually forbidden by the Church.
- 29:18Yeah, it is. If you enter into a duel, you're excommunicated
- 29:22Freemasonry. Did you know if you join the Masonic Order you are ipso facto
- 29:29excommunicated from the Catholic Church. I wish more people knew that Freemasonry is actually
- 29:36very evil and dedicated at its core to destroying Catholicism. That all our founding
- 29:44fathers, except for Charles Carroll, were Freemasons. Remember yesterday I said,
- 29:49I'm afraid America was founded upon sand and not upon a rock. Yeah.
- 29:56Yeah. The excommunication of all Freemasons was stated by Pious the Ninth in eighteen
- 30:06sixty nine. In other cases, the excommunication must be formally pronounced. So
- 30:11I mean if you're automatically excommunicated if you become a freemason. I mean,
- 30:19it's just like boom, you did it. It's done, You're out.
- 30:22Okay. In other cases the excommunication must be formally pronounced, and that too
- 30:29after warning and trial. I mean it actually takes. In other cases,
- 30:33it actually takes a trial with you know, canon law, as in the
- 30:38case of the old Catholic bishops Ankins Ankins e e I n k e s.
- 30:45I don't know how to pronounce that name. And Bellinger Saint Ambrose forbade
- 30:49the impath of Theodosius to enter the church after the latter had by his orders
- 30:55caused the slaughter of some seven thousand people in Thessalonica. And it was only
- 31:00after doing severe penance he was admitted. We know too that Saint Paul cut
- 31:03off in the church a vicious Corinthian. That's First Corinthian's Verse thirteen, which
- 31:07I referenced earlier. The state exercises a similar power in banishing criminals. It's
- 31:14very important that one remember the Church is the kingdom of God on earth,
- 31:19and any kingdom has officers and it has rules. I mean, you couldn't
- 31:26just let's say, you're in modern day England today. Okay, since I
- 31:30was so hard on the English yesterday, I'll give a good example. Let's
- 31:34say you're in Yorkshire, one of the most beautiful places on earth, with
- 31:38wonderful people and actually some very good food. By the way, people really
- 31:44make fun of English cooking, but you know, someone, it's pretty darn
- 31:48good Yorkshire putting the good gravy, the roast beef. I mean, come
- 31:52on, you know, bubble and squeak and toad in the hall and we
- 31:55can go in on. But anyway, let's say you're in Yorkshire and you're
- 31:56drinking a real ale, you know, housemaid in a tavern by someone who
- 32:00actually cares what they're doing, and you said to yourself, you know what,
- 32:07I'm going to rebel against the government of England and the king. I'm
- 32:10going to call myself the King of Yorkshire and this is now my own country.
- 32:15Well, now you'd probably just laughed at but you know one hundred years
- 32:21ago, two hundred years ago, you'd immediately be dragged out of there,
- 32:24put in prison, in charge with treason. Well, but you've got to
- 32:30remember every day some Protestants stands up and says, I'm a Christian. I've
- 32:37been a form of my own church. Well, he has no authority to
- 32:43do so. There's only one church founded by Jesus. And the Catholic Church
- 32:47says, well, you know what. By doing that, you know,
- 32:50mister Martin Luther or whomever, you don't get to take part in the sacraments
- 32:58anymore. You don't get to call yourself a Catho Like, you can't receive
- 33:00the Eucharist, you can't be buried in a Catholic cemetery. Wow, you
- 33:05know, I found it very interesting. They used to call Paracelsus the great
- 33:14herbalist and alchemist, even Paracelsus the greatest doctor of his age. He was
- 33:19very bombastic. In fact, his name was actually Paracelsus theo Francist bombastist von
- 33:24Hohenheim. He was a total iconoclass. I mean he was often charged with
- 33:34sedition and treason for confronting the authorities of the day. And he was kicked
- 33:39out of being a professor at a college because he taught in German as opposed
- 33:45to Latin. And because he taught in German, people the common man could
- 33:49understand him. And he actually opened his classroom so that people who weren't even
- 33:52paying to go to school, could come listen to his lectures, and that
- 33:55was a huge scandal. He was buried in a Catholic cemate terry, and
- 34:00that's interesting because you know, he was called the Martin Luther of medicine,
- 34:04and he stated in his own handwriting proudly, I will not burn with Luther.
- 34:12So he reconciled to the Catholic Church, and as controversial figure as he
- 34:15was, he received a Christian Catholic burial. If only Luther had done the
- 34:22same, we wouldn't be in the situation where we are now. So now
- 34:25let me see some good words about a Protestant and that's Reverend. I guess
- 34:30he was also a doctor, wasn't he? Okay, doctor of theology.
- 34:35It doesn't really count, sorry, y'all. If you went to school when
- 34:37you got a PhD, I call a medical doctors doctors. If you got
- 34:42a doctor to poetry, I'm not calling you a doctor. Okay. If
- 34:45he went to I don't care, mount Ola College, which is sort of
- 34:49like a joke of a Protestant school here in North Carolina, and you got
- 34:53your PhD in you know, divinity, I'm not calling you a doctor.
- 34:59All right, you could a donkey could go to some of these schools and
- 35:06if they well, okay, let me just put it this way. When
- 35:09I was at a certain Baptist university, the admissions policy was anyone with a
- 35:15heartbeat and a wallet. So I'm sorry. A doctor, a doctorate of
- 35:20divinity or theology from certain institutions did not impress me very much. You know,
- 35:25a doctorate of women's studies doesn't impress me very much either. But you
- 35:29know, if you're a doctor, you better be given somebody some pills or
- 35:31cutting on him as a surgeon anyway. But anyway, Reverend pat Robertson,
- 35:40it was a good man. He was a very good man. He helped
- 35:44form the Moral Majority with doctor Folwell, whom I knew, who was a
- 35:49friend to me and a big influence on my life. I would not be
- 35:52Catholic were it not for Jerry Folwell, for better or for worse, you
- 36:00know, it was a very good man. Doctor Charles Stanley, I actually
- 36:05referenced him the other day he died recently. Those three men, plus I
- 36:09guess Ralph Reid, who I think is still alive and still looks like he's
- 36:13about twelve years old. They formed the Moral Majority, and they helped elect
- 36:16President Reagan, and they did more to push back against abortion than probably the
- 36:25entire Catholic Church put together. You know, you got to give him their
- 36:29due. We would not have overturned rov Wade were it not for the actions
- 36:34of faithful Catholics and faithful Protestants. When I was about nineteen, I suffered
- 36:44a severe back injury, paralysis, really bad. I was dragging one leg
- 36:51completely and had some movement in the other, walking on canes. It was.
- 36:58It was devastating, was permanently a disabled. According to the doctors.
- 37:02I was never supposed to walk again. And I was in such intense,
- 37:07agonizing pain sometimes I didn't sleep for ten days a ninth straight. I mean,
- 37:12he was horrible. And I'm sitting on the sofa one morning and the
- 37:20seven hundred Club comes on and I couldn't get up change the channel, and
- 37:23we didn't have a remote control, or if we did at that point,
- 37:27it wasn't near me, you know how it used to be. He had
- 37:30three channels and he had to get up and change them manually. And Pat
- 37:36Robertson said, I have just received a word of knowledge. So this sounded
- 37:39the clear blue. He says, I've just received a word of knowledge.
- 37:45The Holy Spirit tells me that there is a young man in North Carolina who
- 37:50was paralyzed. He's had a back injury, and the doctors tell him he
- 37:52would never walk again. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, that young
- 37:58man is now. He and I sat there and dumb struck all one.
- 38:05How did he know who I was? Why is this man on TV talking
- 38:08to me? A man I didn't believe in. Okay, why is he
- 38:14talking to me? And suddenly a warmth began at the base of my spine
- 38:19and began spiraling upwards like hot water being poured over men, till it reached
- 38:25the base of my skull. And my back was one healed, herniated,
- 38:34blown out disks, I mean, ruptures, fractured vertebrae, healed. I
- 38:39had had scoliosis from childhood. My pine was twisted, almost like a corkscrew.
- 38:46It's straightened in an instant, a pure, absolute miracle. I actually
- 38:52grew an inch in the blink of an eye. Now pain continued for years.
- 38:58A pensioners the whole bit, but structurally physically, in a way that
- 39:02no medical doctor could explain. My back was healed, and on that day
- 39:09I rededicated my wife to Christ. And thanks to Pat Robertson, thanks to
- 39:16a Pentecostal minister on TV. God used him as an instrument, and I
- 39:23would not be sitting here talking to you today had that not happened, I
- 39:30never would have become Catholic. Had that not happened. That was the watershed
- 39:37changing moment of my wife. And it happened due to Pat Robertson. May
- 39:49he rest in peace, and I you know, I'm sure he had.
- 39:52He's had a huge surprise today, you know, when he went to heaven
- 39:57and realized that, you know, Catholics had it right, and the Pentecostal
- 40:00doctrine is very fought. But that's a Protestant who I firmly believe is bound
- 40:10for the Kingdom of Heaven. He'll get it right, I'm sure, you
- 40:15know, like most of us, like all of us, essentially will have
- 40:19to do a little time in purgatory. But I guarantee when he arrived,
- 40:24God said to him, well done, good and faithful servant. All right,
- 40:32y'all, in the words of Saint Padre Pio, pray, hope and
- 40:38don't worry, and I will talk to you tomorrow,
