- 0:00Speaker 1: This is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 0:04Speaker 2: So, were the pollsters wrong, Christopher Thompson?
- 0:08Speaker 3: It was a pretty early.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Evening with Darlene Graham winning. She got about 52.5% to
- 0:14Speaker 2: Ralph's 47.5%.
- 0:18Speaker 3: What do you think? Were they off? Well, obviously they were.
- 0:21Speaker 4: I mean, we heard margin of error of three points
- 0:26Speaker 4: or so, and She won by five. She won by five. So, yeah,
- 0:30Speaker 4: I mean, it was close.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I would say that Donald Trump, obviously, this is Donald
- 0:39Speaker 2: Trump's campaign, right?
- 0:40Speaker 3: Donald Trump said, vote like I'm on the ballot.
- 0:42Speaker 2: He came and did one rally in person, did, I think,
- 0:46Speaker 2: two tele-rallies. But the most important part of this, because
- 0:49Speaker 2: the pollsters couldn't factor this in, was the $ 830, 000 spent on.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Week by MAGA Inc.
- 0:57Speaker 2: In order to get the text and calls out over Sunday, Monday,
- 1:02Speaker 2: and yesterday. And I mean, again, she won by 5%,
- 1:06Speaker 2: but she only won by like 18,000 votes. Does the $ 830, 000
- 1:12Speaker 2: turn into 18,000 people coming to the polls?
- 1:14Speaker 3: I think it does. Probably so.
- 1:16Speaker 4: I mean, that was an extreme amount of money spent
- 1:20Speaker 4: in the final days of this campaign.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:23Speaker 2: And, but, but again, you have to tip the hat
- 1:25Speaker 2: to the Graham campaign people. I mean, they did a
- 1:28Speaker 2: phenomenal Darlene Graham was a legit, never heard of you
- 1:33Speaker 2: until a few months ago, never even heard of you.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I mean, I knew she was in a couple of
- 1:38Speaker 2: Lindsey Graham commercials and she would have been known. I
- 1:41Speaker 2: don't even think most people knew her name. They just
- 1:43Speaker 2: knew it was Lindsey sister. They, they, they, they would
- 1:45Speaker 2: have probably had more success had they run As Lindsey's sister.
- 1:49Speaker 2: They could have just put that on the ballot. Lindsey's sister.
- 1:52Speaker 2: But Darlene Graham has been turned into the nominee for
- 1:57Speaker 2: the senator because of an incredible team that she has.
- 2:01Speaker 2: The Graham campaign people, the Graham organization, whatever you want
- 2:05Speaker 2: to call it, they did incredible work. And, you know,
- 2:09Speaker 2: Ralph Norman ran a pretty solid campaign. I heard he
- 2:13Speaker 2: was a little upset last night, said he doesn't understand
- 2:15Speaker 2: why Trump had to get involved.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Because Donald Trump wanted to get involved. That's why. Donald
- 2:21Speaker 3: Trump does what Donald Trump wants to do. That's true.
- 2:23Speaker 3: And he wanted Darlene Graham, and so he's got Darlene Graham.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I was wondering if we were going to be playing
- 2:29Speaker 2: the Rolling Stones' You Can't Always Get What You Want,
- 2:31Speaker 2: which is one of those songs that Trump plays sometimes.
- 2:33Speaker 3: At his rallies, and I always wondered why. Why would
- 2:35Speaker 3: you play that song? Of all the.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Songs you could choose, that's a bizarre choice to me.
- 2:40Speaker 2: He must just love the record. But Darlene Graham is
- 2:43Speaker 2: the nominee, and you know what?
- 2:46Speaker 6: Let me....
- 2:48Speaker 2: Before, I won't play that just yet. We'll play that
- 2:50Speaker 2: in a minute or so. The responses are coming in
- 2:54Speaker 2: fast and furious. Democrats are excited. What I'm going to
- 2:59Speaker 2: play for you in a minute is Annie Andrews last
- 3:01Speaker 2: night as it was being declared. She heard it was
- 3:05Speaker 2: declared for Darlene. What was her first response?
- 3:08Speaker 3: It's a pretty good message. I'll be honest with you.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Annie Andrews in real time, I mean, she was obviously
- 3:14Speaker 2: prepped for this moment, but She delivered a great opening statement,
- 3:18Speaker 2: I guess I'll call it, for her campaign into the center.
- 3:23Speaker 2: And that's where they both are, right? Darlene and Annie
- 3:26Speaker 2: both went as far to the left and to the
- 3:28Speaker 2: right as they possibly could to win their primaries. And
- 3:31Speaker 2: now they're going to come back to the center as
- 3:33Speaker 2: much as possible, which I know for some of you people,
- 3:36Speaker 2: the people who listen to our shows, Christopher, they're the
- 3:38Speaker 2: people who are the hardest of the hardcore usually.
- 3:41Speaker 6: True.
- 3:41Speaker 3: That mostly to the political junkies.
- 3:44Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Political junkies who lean hard, right. And they are right now.
- 3:49Speaker 2: A lot of them are in a state of mourning.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I feel like, I mean, I, I, I looking at
- 3:54Speaker 2: my timeline this morning, just so many people feeling like
- 3:56Speaker 2: it's the end of the world and blah, blah, blah. Listen,
- 3:59Speaker 2: I'll remind you, most of you, most of you who
- 4:02Speaker 2: are feeling that way, didn't like Lindsey Graham either. And
- 4:05Speaker 2: Lindsey Graham was going to be the senator without question
- 4:08Speaker 2: until he either passed or retired. He was never going
- 4:11Speaker 2: to give up that seat as far as somebody going
- 4:13Speaker 2: to take it from him. Darlene Graham, I imagine, will
- 4:17Speaker 2: vote exactly like Lindsey would have. And so nothing has
- 4:22Speaker 2: changed unless you do not support her. If you don't
- 4:29Speaker 2: support her, then everything changes.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Well, I've seen the reports, Kelly, that Annie Andrews is
- 4:33Speaker 4: already spending half a million dollars next week to ramp
- 4:38Speaker 4: up the campaign against Darlene Graham. So this is going
- 4:41Speaker 4: to get heated in a hurry.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Well, Jamie Harrison was the one who ran against Lindsay
- 4:48Speaker 2: the last.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Time, right? And spent hundreds of millions of dollars.
- 4:51Speaker 8: Yes.
- 4:52Speaker 2: At that time, it was for a very brief period.
- 4:56Speaker 2: It was the most expensive Senate race in history. I
- 4:58Speaker 2: think the Ted Cruz race surpassed it. But yeah, the
- 5:04Speaker 2: Democrats have a real reason to believe that they have
- 5:07Speaker 2: an opportunity here because Darlene Graham, I guess, technically is
- 5:09Speaker 2: the incumbent, although she was appointed to that seat and
- 5:13Speaker 2: she's only been in there for a couple of weeks
- 5:15Speaker 2: and she's only got a couple of, what do we have,
- 5:17Speaker 2: 70 days till the election now. So it's not actually
- 5:19Speaker 2: going to have a lot of experience. And So they
- 5:23Speaker 2: really believe that they can win this seat, and if
- 5:25Speaker 2: they could, it would be the first Democrat elected to
- 5:31Speaker 2: a Senate seat this century in South Carolina.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Since 1998.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Yeah. I like to make it say this century because
- 5:38Speaker 2: that sounds longer, doesn't it? It's like when I first
- 5:41Speaker 2: started here in 2005, we have a guy— well, you guys
- 5:44Speaker 2: hear Tumbleweed doing traffic locally. Tumbleweed— used to say in 2005,
- 5:48Speaker 2: he'd be like, well, that was back in the 1900s.
- 5:50Speaker 2: And again, it was only five years earlier. But now
- 5:54Speaker 2: when you say back in the 1900s, that actually got
- 5:56Speaker 2: some significance. It's 27 years later or whatever. Okay, well,
- 6:00Speaker 2: we'll be back with the Annie Andrews opening statement and
- 6:03Speaker 2: some other stuff. And maybe we'd love to hear your responses.
- 6:06Speaker 2: How are you feeling this morning?
- 6:07Speaker 3: Let us know.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Use that talkback feature on the iHeartRadio app. This is
- 6:11Speaker 2: South Carolina's Morning News.
- 6:12Speaker 1: You're listening to South Carolina's Morning News.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Hi there, this is Kelly Nash, 6'13.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Christopher Thompson and I getting you started on the day
- 6:23Speaker 2: after Darlene Graham's kind of surprising victory. Not that she won,
- 6:28Speaker 2: but she won by 5%. We had been told going
- 6:33Speaker 2: into it yesterday, we were like within tenths of a point,
- 6:36Speaker 2: and most people thought it would be within three, but
- 6:40Speaker 2: she pulled away with five. As the Race was being
- 6:44Speaker 2: declared last night just after 9 o'clock. Annie Andrews was
- 6:48Speaker 2: appearing on WIS television in Columbia. And as that news broke,
- 6:53Speaker 2: this is what she had to say.
- 6:55Speaker 9: So we've only had a few weeks to get to
- 6:57Speaker 9: know Senator Graham. And most of what I have heard
- 7:00Speaker 9: from her is about her being a rubber stamp to
- 7:03Speaker 9: this administration, not offering the checks and balances that the U.S.
- 7:07Speaker 9: Senate was designed to offer. No plans to solve our
- 7:10Speaker 9: broken healthcare system, to reduce costs for healthcare across the state.
- 7:14Speaker 9: No plans to expand access to affordable childcare. No plans
- 7:20Speaker 9: to lower gas prices or to get out of this
- 7:22Speaker 9: war with Iran. What we've heard from her is that
- 7:25Speaker 9: she will be a rubber stamp for this administration. On
- 7:28Speaker 9: the other hand, I am everything but a career politician.
- 7:31Speaker 9: I'm a pediatrician and a mom of three public school
- 7:34Speaker 9: kids who, when I see a problem, I want to
- 7:36Speaker 9: roll up my sleeves and solve that problem, just like
- 7:38Speaker 9: I've done every day taking care of sick and injured
- 7:40Speaker 9: children at the hospital here in South Carolina. I want
- 7:43Speaker 9: to get up to D.C., roll up my sleeves, work
- 7:46Speaker 9: across the aisle with anyone who's willing to work with
- 7:48Speaker 9: me to solve the problem South Carolinians are facing. We
- 7:51Speaker 9: don't need a rubber stamp in this Senate seat, anyone
- 7:54Speaker 9: who's allegiant to any president, or any political party. We
- 7:57Speaker 9: need someone who wakes up and puts South Carolina first
- 8:00Speaker 9: every single day.
- 8:01Speaker 2: I think that message is going to play very well
- 8:04Speaker 2: in the general election. If that's the message that they're
- 8:06Speaker 2: going with, that's a very good message. Now, you and
- 8:11Speaker 2: I and most conservatives can look at her problem-solving abilities
- 8:15Speaker 2: and say they make things worse. Her answer to the
- 8:20Speaker 2: affordability issues is to make it worse. Her answer to
- 8:23Speaker 2: the health care issue When she says we have a
- 8:25Speaker 2: broken health care system, why do we have a broken
- 8:28Speaker 2: health care system? Because of Democrat solutions. The Democrats are
- 8:32Speaker 2: the one who broke it. And so she wants to
- 8:35Speaker 2: give you more of that. So, of course, you and
- 8:38Speaker 2: I are going to say, well, she's ridiculous. But for
- 8:41Speaker 2: most people, again, how many people voted yesterday?
- 8:44Speaker 3: Three hundred and fifty thousand or so.
- 8:46Speaker 2: I mean, it wasn't it was not a ton of
- 8:47Speaker 2: folks that that are potential voters, although we did have
- 8:52Speaker 2: more people, Christopher, yesterday.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Than we had two weeks ago. That's pretty incredible.
- 8:57Speaker 4: And that shows you how powerful the get out the
- 9:00Speaker 4: vote effort was, especially on behalf of Darlene Graham. I mean,
- 9:04Speaker 4: you saw she won big in some key counties and
- 9:08Speaker 4: really Ralph Norman, the upstate was his main base, but
- 9:12Speaker 4: Graham went all over the state.
- 9:14Speaker 2: If you wanted to be cynical, and some people are,
- 9:18Speaker 2: they would say that that was the Annie Andrews people
- 9:22Speaker 2: coming out to support Darlene Graham as well.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Who knows? We'll never know who it was.
- 9:29Speaker 2: We won't know who those extra 18,000 people that got
- 9:32Speaker 2: involved that gave the race to Darlene Graham. But they
- 9:36Speaker 2: were there and they voted and that's all that matters.
- 9:38Speaker 2: So for most South Carolinians, they don't pay much attention
- 9:42Speaker 2: to politics. Just honestly, they don't. And this idea of
- 9:47Speaker 2: a fresh-faced, young doctor who wants to put South Carolina
- 9:53Speaker 2: first and wants to work across the aisle to solve
- 9:56Speaker 2: problems is going to sound very appealing.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Sure.
- 9:58Speaker 2: And there's going to be the knock. on Darlene of, well,
- 10:01Speaker 2: she's just inheriting her brother's seat. This is a forever seat.
- 10:05Speaker 2: And you know, we don't want, so this is going
- 10:07Speaker 2: to be an uphill battle. And even though there's more
- 10:12Speaker 2: Republicans in this state, Trump won this state by 18 points, uh,
- 10:16Speaker 2: what the Andrews people are pointing to is that Donald
- 10:19Speaker 2: Trump's approval ratings nationwide are at an all time low
- 10:22Speaker 2: this month. This is the lowest he's ever been at
- 10:24Speaker 2: like 32% nationwide. So what does his support mean at
- 10:30Speaker 2: this point in South Carolina?
- 10:32Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 10:33Speaker 2: He, he got Darlene Graham across the finish line. Didn't
- 10:36Speaker 2: get Pamela Evett across the finish line. Didn't get redistricting
- 10:40Speaker 2: across the finish line. So I don't know what his,
- 10:42Speaker 2: impact is on the state.
- 10:44Speaker 4: But you got the feeling that Annie Andrews got the candidate,
- 10:46Speaker 4: got the opponent that she wanted. I mean, she's been
- 10:49Speaker 4: talking about Darlene Graham for the last couple of weeks,
- 10:52Speaker 4: hasn't really mentioned Ralph Norman other than to say that
- 10:55Speaker 4: neither candidate, neither Graham nor Norman were the right fit
- 10:58Speaker 4: for South Carolina. But you got the feeling Andrews wanted
- 11:01Speaker 4: Darlene Graham as her opponent.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Well, you know, be careful what you ask for. I mean,
- 11:05Speaker 3: that's the other thing.
- 11:06Speaker 2: You know, I'm reading a post here from some Democrats
- 11:10Speaker 2: and they're very excited about that right now, Dr. Andrews'
- 11:14Speaker 2: financial advantage, she got an advantage financially right now. Apparently,
- 11:20Speaker 2: cash on hand, she has $ 4. 1 million, giving her a
- 11:24Speaker 2: substantial resources and advantages over Darlene Graham as they head
- 11:29Speaker 2: into the general election. And she also opposes corporate PAC money. Well,
- 11:33Speaker 2: you better not because if you think you're going to
- 11:35Speaker 2: win this race on $ 4 million or $ 14 million, you
- 11:40Speaker 2: better put another one in front of that. You're going
- 11:42Speaker 2: to need $ 114 million and you're not going to fundraise
- 11:45Speaker 2: that here in South Carolina. It's going to be all
- 11:47Speaker 2: outside cash. And so if you, you don't want the
- 11:50Speaker 2: corporate PAC money, That's what you're going to need to
- 11:53Speaker 2: win this race. You better get a lot of it.
- 11:54Speaker 2: All right, it is 619. You're waking up with South
- 11:57Speaker 2: Carolina's morning news.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Your news, traffic, weather, and information stations.
- 12:02Speaker 10: This is South Carolina's morning news on 103.5 FM, 560 AM, WVOC,
- 12:10Speaker 10: and 94.3 WSC.
- 12:13Speaker 8: It doesn't happen often, but today I am ashamed to
- 12:16Speaker 8: be a South Carolinian. We are just a state of
- 12:19Speaker 8: moronic parents. who do exactly as they're told and don't
- 12:22Speaker 8: think for themselves. What's the point of having a legislative
- 12:25Speaker 8: branch if they're just going to kowtow to the whims
- 12:28Speaker 8: of the executive branch? Just do away with Congress altogether
- 12:31Speaker 8: if the president has total power.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Wow.
- 12:35Speaker 2: I mean, obviously very upset about the results of the election.
- 12:40Speaker 2: And I totally understand. I mean, I'll be completely transparent
- 12:45Speaker 2: with you. I voted for Ralph Norman yesterday.
- 12:48Speaker 3: I think... Most of my friends voted for Ralph Norman.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I think most of us are what I would– in
- 12:56Speaker 2: my friend group, we would consider ourselves conservatives. And we
- 13:01Speaker 2: didn't see Darlene as the conservative in this race. That
- 13:05Speaker 2: being said– Proven conservative. Well, I don't even– either or.
- 13:10Speaker 2: We'll just put it that way.
- 13:11Speaker 3: All right.
- 13:12Speaker 2: I mean, I would say in my estimation of who
- 13:15Speaker 2: she is, she's probably– far more moderate than I am.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Um, and, and that's okay. There's room.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Look, when, when the Democrats talk about a big tent,
- 13:25Speaker 2: they're talking about people who want to literally get rid
- 13:29Speaker 2: of the constitution. Like not like figuratively, like, no, we,
- 13:33Speaker 2: we don't want a Supreme court. We don't want a president.
- 13:37Speaker 2: We don't want a Senate. We don't want borders. We
- 13:39Speaker 2: want to redo the whole country. That's in their party. That's,
- 13:43Speaker 2: that's their big tent. Our big tent is, you know,
- 13:46Speaker 2: how much, How much, you know, are you willing to
- 13:49Speaker 2: tolerate debt spending? How much are you willing to tolerate?
- 13:54Speaker 2: Our big tent is a lot more kind of in
- 13:58Speaker 2: the group. I don't want to say group think, but
- 13:59Speaker 2: we kind of all see the issues similar and we
- 14:02Speaker 2: just have different solutions or how much tolerance we have
- 14:04Speaker 2: for each one of these types of things. And again,
- 14:08Speaker 2: I think today is going to be a tough day
- 14:09Speaker 2: for a lot of South Carolinians. You know, the hundred
- 14:12Speaker 2: and how many people voted for Ralph was like one
- 14:14Speaker 2: hundred and seventy five thousand.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Went out and voted for him.
- 14:16Speaker 6: Yes.
- 14:17Speaker 3: And then she had like 193,000.
- 14:18Speaker 2: So it was an 18,000 separation there. But for the 175,000
- 14:23Speaker 2: who voted for Ralph, you're probably in a very morose
- 14:28Speaker 2: type of mood. This man sounds like he's disillusioned by
- 14:33Speaker 2: the state.
- 14:33Speaker 3: And so on and so forth.
- 14:35Speaker 2: And didn't like Trump's involvement. And didn't like Trump's involvement.
- 14:41Speaker 2: And yes, Annie Andrews is going to label Darlene as
- 14:45Speaker 2: a rubber stamp for Trump, and that will turn off
- 14:49Speaker 2: a lot of conservatives. Trump has never been a conservative.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Trump has always been a populist. There's a lot of
- 14:57Speaker 2: things about Donald Trump that I didn't like in 2016,
- 15:01Speaker 2: but I voted for him because I looked at him
- 15:05Speaker 2: as a wrecking ball. I wanted him to come in
- 15:07Speaker 2: and just blow up the whole thing. And then once
- 15:10Speaker 2: we get it leveled out, we can kind of rebuild it.
- 15:12Speaker 2: That's how I looked at Trump. It hasn't gone exactly
- 15:16Speaker 2: as I had hoped. I knew he couldn't destroy the
- 15:17Speaker 2: whole process. He couldn't blow up the whole machine. But
- 15:24Speaker 2: all things considered, I'm pretty happy with Donald Trump's results.
- 15:27Speaker 2: All things considered. And the swamp has been certainly against him.
- 15:32Speaker 2: And if the president wants what he is considering a
- 15:36Speaker 2: really solid ally in his corner, he should– think about
- 15:42Speaker 2: who's been against him.
- 15:43Speaker 3: John Thune's against him. John Thune hates Donald Trump. Mitch McConnell.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Mitch McConnell hates Donald Trump. Think about what he came into.
- 15:50Speaker 2: You had– what's his name? The guy from– I used
- 15:55Speaker 2: to call him Eddie Munster.
- 15:57Speaker 3: I can't remember his name right now.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Paul Ryan.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Paul Ryan hated Donald Trump.
- 16:01Speaker 2: I mean, all of these people that were the Republican
- 16:04Speaker 2: establishment hated Donald Trump and did whatever they could to
- 16:07Speaker 2: obstruct him. And so for years he's been dealing with this.
- 16:11Speaker 2: And so if he gets a couple of rubber stamps,
- 16:14Speaker 2: so to speak, It doesn't mean he's going to get
- 16:16Speaker 2: his way. He's certainly not getting it. He doesn't get
- 16:19Speaker 2: his way. We joke about how he's the worst king ever.
- 16:22Speaker 2: If he was a king, none of this stuff would
- 16:24Speaker 2: be happening. He can't even build a ballroom. The ballroom
- 16:27Speaker 2: is being held up. Nothing is going his way right now.
- 16:32Speaker 2: It didn't go the way I wanted it to go yesterday.
- 16:34Speaker 2: And maybe today's just a day for you to just
- 16:36Speaker 2: let your frustrations out if you're one of those people
- 16:38Speaker 2: in the Ralph Norman camp. But we do have to
- 16:41Speaker 2: get past that. And we only got 70 days till
- 16:44Speaker 2: we're ready for the general election. So we got to
- 16:46Speaker 2: move on. But it is now.
- 16:47Speaker 3: I'm speaking. I'm moving on. Goodness gracious. It's 630, Christopher.
- 16:51Speaker 10: From the Midlands to the Lowcountry, this is South Carolina's
- 16:55Speaker 10: Morning News.
- 16:57Speaker 3: 635. You know, we're talking about Dr. Annie Andrews. She's
- 17:00Speaker 3: got a.
- 17:01Speaker 2: legitimate shot to be the next senator from south carolina
- 17:04Speaker 2: as a democrat first one to be elected this century
- 17:08Speaker 2: this century the year 2000s we've not had a democrat
- 17:14Speaker 2: representing us in the senate now she's going to be
- 17:17Speaker 2: tacking to the center as much as possible but let's
- 17:20Speaker 2: not forget who she really is and i know for
- 17:23Speaker 2: for a lot of republicans abortion is a big issue
- 17:27Speaker 2: And this is an interview. I'm just going to play
- 17:30Speaker 2: a little snippet of this. This is from WJCL out
- 17:33Speaker 2: of Savannah.
- 17:34Speaker 3: This was Dr. Annie Andrews a couple of years ago.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Talking with them as she was going up against Nancy
- 17:39Speaker 2: Mace at the time, and this is her thoughts.
- 17:43Speaker 9: I have talked to so many Republican women who are
- 17:46Speaker 9: supporting me this cycle because this is unprecedented. The Supreme
- 17:50Speaker 9: Court took away rights that we've had for 50 years.
- 17:53Speaker 4: She was a harsh critic of her opponent supporting a
- 17:56Speaker 4: total abortion ban, highlighting instead her pro-choice stance.
- 18:00Speaker 9: I am a physician, and I know that abortion is
- 18:02Speaker 9: health care.
- 18:04Speaker 2: She knows that abortion is health care, and... By the way,
- 18:07Speaker 2: that would mean that as a physician who understands that
- 18:10Speaker 2: abortion is health care, she would be part of that
- 18:14Speaker 2: movement in the Democrat Party to pass a national pro-choice movement,
- 18:20Speaker 2: meaning the states would then be overridden by federal law.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Right now, what all they did with Roe v. Wade,
- 18:26Speaker 2: the Supreme Court didn't take away any rights. What they
- 18:28Speaker 2: said was we made a mistake. It was never supposed
- 18:30Speaker 2: to be a federal issue. It was always supposed to
- 18:32Speaker 2: be a state issue.
- 18:33Speaker 3: Dr.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Andrews doesn't believe that. Now, she may say she does.
- 18:37Speaker 2: She may say South Carolina has the right, but she doesn't.
- 18:40Speaker 2: So she'll be either lying or she'll be telling you
- 18:42Speaker 2: the truth that she wants a national law passed so
- 18:47Speaker 2: that Roe v. Wade can basically be reinstalled and then
- 18:50Speaker 2: probably more in the line of Massachusetts where you can
- 18:55Speaker 2: get abortion right on up to the day of delivery.
- 18:57Speaker 4: Well, that is against what most South Carolinians feel, even
- 19:01Speaker 4: though We see more polls saying South Carolinians are leaning
- 19:06Speaker 4: more toward choice. I don't think anyone wants that Massachusetts
- 19:09Speaker 4: law to come to fruition nationally.
- 19:12Speaker 3: How could you deny someone health care, though? Yeah, it's
- 19:15Speaker 3: health care. That's what that's what they would say.
- 19:17Speaker 2: By the way, I am a member of a group
- 19:19Speaker 2: called Citizens for Life, South Carolina Citizens for Life. If
- 19:22Speaker 2: you go to their website, you can see. And by
- 19:25Speaker 2: the way, I was talking to one of their directors
- 19:26Speaker 2: the other day. She one of her final conversations was
- 19:29Speaker 2: a couple of months ago with Lindsey Graham. And he
- 19:31Speaker 2: had been a very strong supporter of Citizens for Life.
- 19:34Speaker 2: I mean, every year that I've been there, he's been there.
- 19:36Speaker 2: And I've always introduced Lindsey Graham, and it's been a
- 19:39Speaker 2: long relationship. And she thinks that maybe the Holy Spirit
- 19:45Speaker 2: was moving that day because she wasn't even supposed to
- 19:48Speaker 2: be invited to that event. And then she ended up
- 19:50Speaker 2: being asked to introduce somebody else and said, well, can
- 19:52Speaker 2: I say some nice words about my senator before I
- 19:54Speaker 2: introduced that person?
- 19:55Speaker 3: And they said, sure.
- 19:56Speaker 2: So Lindsay was in the audience and she just felt
- 19:58Speaker 2: the need to point out, Lindsay, since you started working
- 20:01Speaker 2: with us, we can actually track, and I'm looking at
- 20:05Speaker 2: their website right now, they started this movement in 1988,
- 20:08Speaker 2: I believe it is. 245,503 more babies were saved. They
- 20:16Speaker 2: were not aborted because of the efforts of Citizens for Life.
- 20:20Speaker 3: 245,503.
- 20:21Speaker 2: And Lindsey Graham was a big part of helping to
- 20:25Speaker 2: save those lives. So again, Dr. Annie would have those
- 20:29Speaker 2: taken off the map. She doesn't want them here because
- 20:31Speaker 2: she needs more health care. That's going to be a
- 20:34Speaker 2: big a big bone of contention, I think, in the
- 20:36Speaker 2: general election. All right, it's 6.38 on South Carolina's Morning News.
- 20:40Speaker 10: This is South Carolina's Morning News on 103.5 FM and
- 20:44Speaker 10: 560 AM, WVOC, Columbia, and 94.3 WSC, Charleston.
- 20:51Speaker 5: Darlene Nordhain needs to up her debating game. She needs
- 20:55Speaker 5: to stop invoking Trump at every turn. Annie Andrews is
- 21:00Speaker 5: quite capable of dancing rings around Nordhain in any debate.
- 21:04Speaker 5: She may not win the election, but she can make
- 21:07Speaker 5: Nordane look foolish.
- 21:10Speaker 3: Well, thank you for your talk back.
- 21:12Speaker 2: And anybody who wants to use the talk back feature,
- 21:13Speaker 2: we appreciate that on the iHeartRadio app. Press that microphone.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Her name is Darlene Graham, so we have to make
- 21:21Speaker 2: that correction. Even if you're using her full name, it's Nordone,
- 21:26Speaker 2: not Nordane.
- 21:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Did she, I think we had seen that back in the,
- 21:34Speaker 2: early 2020s that when you know signing things at the
- 21:37Speaker 2: commission for the blind she was signing it darling graham
- 21:40Speaker 2: yes so i guess that's always been her professional name
- 21:43Speaker 2: uh i don't know if in her you know life
- 21:46Speaker 2: if she's ever used nordone it's not really my business
- 21:50Speaker 2: i just know that professionally she goes by darling graham
- 21:52Speaker 2: it's kind of like uh you know you know dolly
- 21:55Speaker 2: parton we're going to be talking with sean hannity in
- 21:57Speaker 2: his morning minute talking about dolly parton Her legal last
- 22:00Speaker 2: name was not Parton. She just continued to use that
- 22:03Speaker 2: after she got married, even though she took Carl Dean
- 22:06Speaker 2: was the last name. That was her legal last name.
- 22:09Speaker 2: But she would sign things Dolly Parton and or Dolly
- 22:12Speaker 2: Parton Dean. Darlene Graham is going by Darlene Graham. So
- 22:16Speaker 2: we'll say that.
- 22:17Speaker 3: And you're right.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Somebody right now, there are some wordsmiths right now crafting
- 22:22Speaker 2: a message. How is national security your thing? You've got
- 22:26Speaker 2: to make it your thing because when you get into
- 22:29Speaker 2: a debate, that's going to be thrown in your face.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Those ads are going to be running nonstop. National security
- 22:34Speaker 2: is not my thing. Well, it better become yours quickly.
- 22:37Speaker 2: By the way, just looking at the– you know what?
- 22:39Speaker 2: We'll take a quick break, I think, and then I
- 22:41Speaker 2: will come back. And surprising when– if you look at
- 22:47Speaker 2: the districts broken up by the congresspeople, so– Timmons, Norman, Biggs, Wilson, Mace, Clyburn, Frye.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Who got the most votes for Darlene? Who got the
- 23:01Speaker 2: most votes for Ralph? I'm a little bit surprised at
- 23:05Speaker 2: some of these. We will talk about that and more.
- 23:07Speaker 10: Live from the state capitol, this is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 23:13Speaker 3: So, this show.
- 23:15Speaker 2: The one that Christopher Thompson and I, Kelly Nash, host
- 23:18Speaker 2: is basically heard in the Joe Wilson, Nancy Mace, James
- 23:23Speaker 2: Clyburn districts.
- 23:26Speaker 3: And let's see. All of them? Yes, all of them
- 23:30Speaker 3: went for Graham.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Now, the one that got the most votes for Graham
- 23:36Speaker 2: would be the Joe Wilson district.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Got 28,500 votes for her.
- 23:42Speaker 2: The Nancy Mace district got 27,000 even. And in Clyburn's district, 16,100.
- 23:50Speaker 2: The number one district by far was Russell Fry's. Russell
- 23:57Speaker 2: Fry got, I guess, the combo of his endorsement and
- 24:02Speaker 2: Donald Trump doing an appearance there. 41,500 votes came into
- 24:07Speaker 2: Russell Fry's district.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Pretty incredible. That's huge. And Norman was.
- 24:11Speaker 4: counting on the upstate to be big, but he also
- 24:14Speaker 4: had to make some inroads in some of those Midlands
- 24:17Speaker 4: and coastal counties, and he was just unable to do it. Kelly,
- 24:19Speaker 4: I'll point out, you were talking about Joe Wilson's district,
- 24:22Speaker 4: Lexington County, which the county GOP endorsed Ralph Norman over
- 24:28Speaker 4: hometown resident Darlene Graham. Lexington County went 60-40 in favor
- 24:33Speaker 4: of Graham.
- 24:35Speaker 3: Yes.
- 24:37Speaker 2: I guess if you're looking for something, I don't know,
- 24:40Speaker 2: something to savor, just something that makes it a little
- 24:44Speaker 2: bit sweet, even though you tasted defeat for most of
- 24:47Speaker 2: you people who listen to this show.
- 24:49Speaker 3: William Timmons, who appeared on this show, what was it?
- 24:52Speaker 3: Did we have him on Monday?
- 24:54Speaker 6: Yes.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Representative Timmons, who is a Graham supporter, obviously. He was
- 24:59Speaker 2: a surrogate for the campaign.
- 25:00Speaker 3: In his district.
- 25:02Speaker 2: And he said, I couldn't believe he said he would
- 25:04Speaker 2: not vote for Ralph in a general election.
- 25:07Speaker 4: He took a shot at Norman again last night after
- 25:09Speaker 4: the election was called.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Well, his district.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Absolutely overwhelmingly went for Norman.
- 25:17Speaker 3: That was the biggest one.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Ralph won that district by 32 points and 49,000 votes
- 25:23Speaker 2: for Norman as opposed to 25,000 for Graham. So there's
- 25:26Speaker 2: a little something that you can take some pride in.
- 25:28Speaker 2: I guess that Representative Timmons, this is his final run.
- 25:32Speaker 2: He got destroyed in his home district with his endorsement.
- 25:35Speaker 2: All right, we'll be back with more just after the
- 25:37Speaker 2: top of the hour on South Carolina's Morning News.
- 25:39Speaker 1: This is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Hi there. It is 7.03.
- 25:45Speaker 2: This is Kelly Nash, Christopher Thompson here. And typically, we
- 25:50Speaker 2: would just talk straight politics and news of the day.
- 25:54Speaker 2: I guess news of the day is part of.
- 25:55Speaker 3: What we do here.
- 25:56Speaker 2: And how, you know, Sean Hannity brings up a good point.
- 26:00Speaker 3: How do you have a day?
- 26:03Speaker 2: This is the first day any of us have been
- 26:05Speaker 2: alive that Dolly Parton wasn't alive. Dolly Parton was such
- 26:08Speaker 2: a huge impact on not just music, film, culture in general,
- 26:19Speaker 2: and a force for good. You know, politically, I probably
- 26:24Speaker 2: wouldn't have aligned with Dolly closely, although she wasn't very
- 26:28Speaker 2: outspoken politically.
- 26:29Speaker 3: It's like, you wouldn't know if she was a Republican
- 26:31Speaker 3: or a Democrat.
- 26:32Speaker 6: No.
- 26:33Speaker 3: You just knew that she was a big supporter of
- 26:34Speaker 3: LGBTQ rights.
- 26:36Speaker 2: And she was like one of the first celebrities to
- 26:38Speaker 2: call for gay marriage and those types of things. So
- 26:40Speaker 2: that kind of lets you know, okay, she leans left.
- 26:43Speaker 2: She leans left, but she gets along great with everybody
- 26:46Speaker 2: on the right, it seems. And just a lovely person
- 26:51Speaker 2: who made it like her life's mission because, as she
- 26:55Speaker 2: often said, her father, by her estimation, was the smartest
- 27:00Speaker 2: man she ever knew. But he was held back because
- 27:04Speaker 2: he was illiterate. So she wanted to help everybody learn
- 27:07Speaker 2: how to read. And what a great goal.
- 27:10Speaker 4: She gave so much in so many different ways. But yeah,
- 27:14Speaker 4: her imagination libraries took off. I didn't realize she had
- 27:18Speaker 4: roots in South Carolina.
- 27:20Speaker 3: How so?
- 27:21Speaker 4: Her mother was apparently born in Lockhart. Oh, and she
- 27:24Speaker 4: actually came and I think she dedicated a hospital. And
- 27:27Speaker 4: gave money to a hospital there not too terribly long ago.
- 27:30Speaker 3: You know what? You're right.
- 27:32Speaker 2: I remember we talked about that on the other show
- 27:34Speaker 2: that I do. That's amazing.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Yes.
- 27:37Speaker 2: She's, you know, if you look at just about any
- 27:40Speaker 2: local television network right now, because that's one of the
- 27:43Speaker 2: goals of all television.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Stations. How can we tie ourselves into the national story?
- 27:48Speaker 6: Right.
- 27:48Speaker 2: So there's, you know, if you're looking in the low country,
- 27:51Speaker 2: they're talking about how her last concert there was, I think, 2016,
- 27:55Speaker 2: but how the Imagination Library continues to, by the way,
- 27:58Speaker 2: I think they've said just in South Carolina, 700,000 free
- 28:03Speaker 2: books have been sent out to children in South Carolina
- 28:06Speaker 2: by Dolly Parton's crew. This is fantastic what she's been doing.
- 28:11Speaker 2: And it wasn't just for the the literacy campaigns, she
- 28:15Speaker 2: was a contributor to all kinds of campaigns, but literacy
- 28:19Speaker 2: was her number one issue, it seemed.
- 28:20Speaker 3: And so, you know, this is a great role model.
- 28:23Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:23Speaker 2: I like the fact that when you drive around, you
- 28:26Speaker 2: see those billboards every now and again, they say, you know,
- 28:28Speaker 2: spread kindness, something like that. And Dolly Parton is often
- 28:32Speaker 2: featured in those because she is such, she was such
- 28:36Speaker 2: a voice for being kind, understanding that, people, human beings.
- 28:43Speaker 3: It's tough to be a human being. There's a lot
- 28:45Speaker 3: of problems in the world.
- 28:47Speaker 2: And, you know, if you're a Christian, you believe that
- 28:49Speaker 2: because you live in a sin-filled world.
- 28:52Speaker 3: You're in a sin-filled body. So, of course, sinners are
- 28:55Speaker 3: going to sin.
- 28:56Speaker 2: That's going to bring a lot of pain and problems
- 28:58Speaker 2: and troubles and addictions and lying and all kinds of
- 29:03Speaker 2: things are going to happen in your life where you're
- 29:05Speaker 2: going to be disappointed. So, You don't know what the
- 29:08Speaker 2: other person's going through, whoever you're dealing with that day.
- 29:11Speaker 2: And so give them some grace. Give them a little
- 29:13Speaker 2: bit of leeway. If they're going to fly off the
- 29:16Speaker 2: handle a little bit, like I guess we're going to
- 29:18Speaker 2: be playing some talkbacks here coming up a little bit, Christopher,
- 29:20Speaker 2: where people are not so happy with us today.
- 29:22Speaker 3: It's true. Okay, that's fine.
- 29:24Speaker 2: I'm going to give you the grace to go ahead
- 29:26Speaker 2: and pop off at us. If you want to pop
- 29:28Speaker 2: off at Christopher Thompson, not me as much. Go with
- 29:31Speaker 2: Christopher Thompson.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Make me the target. Thanks, Kelly.
- 29:35Speaker 2: But no, we'll take that. We understand that right now
- 29:38Speaker 2: a lot of you are in a bad mood. A
- 29:40Speaker 2: lot of you are in a celebratory mood. I would
- 29:41Speaker 2: say probably 30% to 40% of our audience is probably
- 29:44Speaker 2: Darlene Graham supporters.
- 29:46Speaker 3: So they're probably in a good mood today.
- 29:47Speaker 2: 60% to 70% of you are not in a good
- 29:50Speaker 2: mood today.
- 29:51Speaker 3: That's understandable.
- 29:52Speaker 2: And if you want to take it out on us
- 29:54Speaker 2: or you just want to air your frustrations... That's part
- 29:57Speaker 2: of the reason that the Talkback feature is here, and
- 29:59Speaker 2: today is a great day to do it.
- 30:01Speaker 3: Get that off your chest today.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Because, like I said, 70 days from now, we're going
- 30:05Speaker 2: to be in a general election. So we need to
- 30:08Speaker 2: get that off. Don't deny your feelings. Your feelings are legit.
- 30:13Speaker 2: And then once you get it off your chest, it's
- 30:15Speaker 2: kind of like when a team– Christopher, how many times
- 30:17Speaker 2: have you heard a coach– you've been following sports your
- 30:20Speaker 2: whole life. They'll say, we'll take today off, and we'll
- 30:23Speaker 2: just kind of say, okay, we lost.
- 30:24Speaker 3: The 24-hour rule.
- 30:26Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:26Speaker 4: You can either celebrate or you can mourn a loss
- 30:29Speaker 4: for 24 hours and then it's on to the next opponent.
- 30:32Speaker 3: That's right. We got to put it behind us and
- 30:33Speaker 3: move on or put it, put it behind you.
- 30:36Speaker 2: If you're a Darlene Graham, Hey, that was a great night.
- 30:38Speaker 11: Yep.
- 30:39Speaker 2: But guess what? There's a big mountain to climb. You
- 30:41Speaker 2: got to get going back to work here pretty soon.
- 30:43Speaker 2: So we're all doing that. We're all mourning Dolly Parton.
- 30:46Speaker 2: What a great talent. What a great life. What a
- 30:48Speaker 2: great role model for all of us. I think in
- 30:51Speaker 2: many ways. So if you have thoughts on Dolly Parton,
- 30:54Speaker 2: share those as well on the Talkback feature. It is 7.08
- 30:56Speaker 2: on South Carolina's Morning News.
- 30:58Speaker 1: You're listening to South Carolina's Morning News.
- 31:01Speaker 3: Hi there. This is Kelly Nash.
- 31:04Speaker 2: I see that Donald Trump got his way in Oklahoma
- 31:07Speaker 2: yesterday as well.
- 31:09Speaker 3: A guy named Mike Mazai, I think is how you
- 31:12Speaker 3: say his last name.
- 31:13Speaker 2: He has made it through on the special primary against
- 31:16Speaker 2: a guy named Gettner Drummond.
- 31:18Speaker 3: And boy, oh boy, that was a very close race.
- 31:21Speaker 2: 50.3 to 49.7. That is kind of what we were
- 31:30Speaker 2: expecting here. Drummond, I guess, had given money to Joe
- 31:35Speaker 2: Biden's campaign, and that kind of was what brought on
- 31:39Speaker 2: the Trump ire. And so with that support, Mazzy was
- 31:43Speaker 2: able to pull through in Oklahoma yesterday. But also here
- 31:46Speaker 2: in South Carolina, we'd been expecting a much closer race
- 31:49Speaker 2: than what we actually got. Got a five-point win for
- 31:51Speaker 2: Darlene Graham last night. And we were talking about, you know,
- 31:54Speaker 2: some of you are not happy with us. Some of
- 31:56Speaker 2: you are not happy with Ralph. Some of you are
- 31:58Speaker 2: not happy with whatever. You're not happy with Trump. A
- 32:02Speaker 2: lot of feelings are out there today. And today's the
- 32:04Speaker 2: day to get it off your chest. And Christopher, I'm
- 32:07Speaker 2: told that we have Kim from North Charleston who's not happy.
- 32:12Speaker 12: No wonder the Republican Party can't get it together. You
- 32:15Speaker 12: guys bash every Republican other than the ones you want.
- 32:19Speaker 12: She might not know foreign policy very well. It doesn't
- 32:23Speaker 12: mean she can't learn it. I just don't like the
- 32:26Speaker 12: way every Republican bashes all the other Republicans. It's just terrible,
- 32:31Speaker 12: and you guys are doing it on radio. We need
- 32:34Speaker 12: to come together as a party.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Well, there you go. Thank you, Kim. Um, I, I
- 32:39Speaker 3: agree with her message. You do need to come together.
- 32:41Speaker 2: I thought I'd been saying that perhaps not clearly enough
- 32:44Speaker 2: that we need to come together as a party and
- 32:46Speaker 2: support whoever wins this nomination because whatever's on the other
- 32:50Speaker 2: side of the aisle is far more dangerous than anything
- 32:54Speaker 2: you might imagine. Whatever you thought Ralph Norman might've been,
- 32:57Speaker 2: or whatever you thought that Darlene Graham might be, it's
- 33:01Speaker 2: nowhere near as horrific as what a Democrat would be.
- 33:03Speaker 4: Kelly, it Tim's comments came in, or talkback came in,
- 33:07Speaker 4: after what you said about William Timmons. That might have
- 33:09Speaker 4: been what she was referring to. But, I mean, you
- 33:12Speaker 4: were simply pointing out that Timmons didn't carry the water
- 33:16Speaker 4: for Darlene Graham. She went a lot of counties and
- 33:18Speaker 4: won big in a lot of places, but his endorsement
- 33:20Speaker 4: didn't seem to mean nearly as much as Russell Fry's.
- 33:23Speaker 3: For example.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Yeah, and Russell, we were mentioning in the, I guess
- 33:27Speaker 2: it was before the top of the hour we were
- 33:28Speaker 2: talking about that, that Russell Fry, his district was by
- 33:34Speaker 2: far the number one district for darling Graham.
- 33:37Speaker 3: I mean, it wasn't even close.
- 33:38Speaker 2: He brought in, I say, he obviously Trump did a
- 33:41Speaker 2: rally in the, in that district, uh, 41,500 votes. She
- 33:46Speaker 2: won 70% of the vote there. Um, it was, I mean,
- 33:50Speaker 2: nobody came now, Norman in Timmons district, by the way,
- 33:54Speaker 2: the biggest vote getter in any district was Ralph Norman
- 33:58Speaker 2: in Timmons district. Ralph got 49,200 votes. So he won
- 34:03Speaker 2: that district 66 to 34 percent.
- 34:07Speaker 3: But that's Norman's home area, too. Yes.
- 34:10Speaker 2: But Timmons very actively and vocally putting down Ralph the
- 34:16Speaker 2: whole time. I mean, if you want to talk about
- 34:17Speaker 2: bashing Republicans, I mean, I think Timmons is the band
- 34:21Speaker 2: leader of bashing Republicans and making up things about about Ralph,
- 34:26Speaker 2: you know, things that weren't true, that were demonstrably false.
- 34:29Speaker 2: He would just plainly state those things about him taking
- 34:32Speaker 2: the COVID money and all that sort of stuff. Demonstrably
- 34:35Speaker 2: not true. Not even associated with the business at the
- 34:38Speaker 2: time when that COVID loans came in, nor was there
- 34:40Speaker 2: anything on, you know, there was nothing illegally done yet.
- 34:45Speaker 2: He made it seem as if Ralph Norman was engaging
- 34:48Speaker 2: in some sort of illegal activity to try to sully
- 34:52Speaker 2: his reputation. Now, is all of this standard fair for
- 34:55Speaker 2: a primary?
- 34:56Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Every primary is ugly. And when you have a special
- 35:00Speaker 2: runoff primary, it's especially ugly. I was reading yesterday about, oh,
- 35:05Speaker 2: why am I drawing a blank? I get up too early.
- 35:08Speaker 2: That's the problem. I get up too early. What was
- 35:10Speaker 2: the young man's name? He unfortunately passed so early.
- 35:15Speaker 3: He's from Columbia.
- 35:16Speaker 2: He's buried literally right down the street here, who helped
- 35:19Speaker 2: Reagan get elected. He was just so big in They
- 35:24Speaker 2: called him like the king of the dirty tricks.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Lee Atwater. Lee Atwater. Lee Atwater.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Now, Lee Atwater, if you think any of this is unseemly,
- 35:34Speaker 2: you should see what he did to the primary opponents.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Never mind what he did to the Democrats. But, I mean,
- 35:39Speaker 2: that's just the nature of the beast. And so it's
- 35:43Speaker 2: not the perfect— it' s kind of like capitalism. People say, well,
- 35:46Speaker 2: it's not perfect. No, it's not perfect. And there's a
- 35:48Speaker 2: lot of ugliness in capitalism. But it's the best thing
- 35:50Speaker 2: we've got. So— this form of democracy that we currently
- 35:54Speaker 2: have in the United States, it's not perfect.
- 35:56Speaker 3: It leads to a lot of hurt feelings. It leads
- 35:58Speaker 3: to people sometimes feeling disenfranchised. It feels, whatever. But it's
- 36:02Speaker 3: the best thing we got. It's a lot better than.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Just letting your overlords decide what's best for you.
- 36:08Speaker 4: And Kelly, we saw a lot of talk on social
- 36:11Speaker 4: media from political operatives last night. How many people did
- 36:14Speaker 4: you say or did you see say that Russell Frye
- 36:18Speaker 4: was a big winner last night because he carried so
- 36:20Speaker 4: much water for Darlene Graham in that win.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Well, I mean, Russell Frye, if he's trying to be
- 36:28Speaker 2: MAGA associated, you couldn't be any more MAGA associated than
- 36:32Speaker 2: he is right now. I mean, because remember back in
- 36:34Speaker 2: the primary, Russell Frye was the most aggressive attacker of
- 36:38Speaker 2: Darlene Graham. I think out of all of them, Ralph
- 36:40Speaker 2: Norman didn't attack her anywhere near as much as Russell
- 36:42Speaker 2: Frye did. And so Russell Frye to flip as soon
- 36:46Speaker 2: as he was eliminated from the contest to almost within
- 36:49Speaker 2: 24 hours, giving his support to Darlene Graham, that puts
- 36:53Speaker 2: him back in good graces with quote unquote MAGA, whatever
- 36:57Speaker 2: MAGA is, there is no official MAGA, but you know,
- 37:00Speaker 2: do you know, well, there is there it's called MAGA Inc.
- 37:02Speaker 2: And they're the ones who spent $ 830, 000 to help Darlene Graham. But, uh,
- 37:06Speaker 2: you know, I, again, if you're a, if you're just
- 37:08Speaker 2: a huge supporter of the, of Trump, you appreciate Fry's support.
- 37:12Speaker 2: You were probably angry when he got into the race
- 37:15Speaker 2: because again, Donald Trump's endorsement of Darlene Graham was meant
- 37:19Speaker 2: to keep Russell Fry out. He came in because he
- 37:22Speaker 2: knew that Fry wanted this seat. And he put that
- 37:25Speaker 2: endorsement in real early for Darlene Graham. And Russell Fry said,
- 37:30Speaker 2: South Carolina is too important. I'm fighting for it. And
- 37:32Speaker 2: he put his hat into the ring. Didn't go the
- 37:35Speaker 2: way he wanted. But then he got back on the
- 37:37Speaker 2: bandwagon with Trump. And it paid off big dividends last night. 41,500
- 37:41Speaker 2: votes come in for Darlene Graham and Russell Fry's district.
- 37:44Speaker 2: So it was a competitive race, and it was an
- 37:47Speaker 2: interesting race. And again, if you have emotions and you
- 37:50Speaker 2: want to get them out, we're here for it. Go
- 37:52Speaker 2: ahead and use the TalkBack feature. We're going to do
- 37:54Speaker 2: that today. Tomorrow, we're not going to do that. Tomorrow,
- 37:57Speaker 2: we're going to be moving on.
- 37:58Speaker 3: But today, if.
- 37:58Speaker 2: You've got bad feelings, hurt feelings, you're ecstatic feelings, you're
- 38:03Speaker 2: a Darlene Graham supporter, let's celebrate with it. Do all
- 38:05Speaker 2: of that and more on the TalkBack feature at 720.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Your news, traffic, weather, and information stations.
- 38:12Speaker 10: This is South Carolina's Morning News on 103.5 FM, 560 AM, WVOC,
- 38:19Speaker 10: and 94.3 WSC.
- 38:23Speaker 2: This is Kelly Nash, and I know a lot of
- 38:25Speaker 2: us feel divided right now on the Republican side, and
- 38:28Speaker 2: maybe you feel divided as Americans or whatever. Listen, I
- 38:31Speaker 2: want you to also know that the Democrats have huge problems.
- 38:36Speaker 3: This is Hakeem Jeffries. He filmed a video yesterday.
- 38:39Speaker 2: I'm not going to play all of it, but he's
- 38:40Speaker 2: standing there in front of the projects in Brooklyn and
- 38:43Speaker 2: he's wearing his flat brimmed green Yankees hat trying to
- 38:47Speaker 2: get himself some street cred. And he's the guy is
- 38:50Speaker 2: getting killed right now online. He's absolutely being slaughtered online
- 38:54Speaker 2: by Democrats. And the number one complaint right now is
- 38:57Speaker 2: he took a meeting with Jared Kushner.
- 39:00Speaker 3: And this is this is him talking about it. He
- 39:04Speaker 3: asked for a meeting. And I took it.
- 39:09Speaker 13: To discuss the affordability crisis that exists that is not
- 39:12Speaker 13: a hoax. At the same period of time, I shouldn't
- 39:16Speaker 13: have to say it, but I am. No one is
- 39:19Speaker 13: going to get a pass. We're going to hold every
- 39:25Speaker 13: single member of the Trump cartel accountable.
- 39:29Speaker 3: So there you go.
- 39:31Speaker 2: The Democrats are going to hold the Trump cartel accountable,
- 39:34Speaker 2: including family members. So how serious? What does that look like?
- 39:41Speaker 2: What does that actually mean? Nobody knows. But right now
- 39:44Speaker 2: on that video, 12,000 comments said, And when I say ratioed,
- 39:50Speaker 2: if you don't know what ratioed means, ratioed means that
- 39:53Speaker 2: there's more people against you than for you on your post.
- 39:56Speaker 2: It's probably about 10,000 negative comments.
- 39:59Speaker 3: He's backtracking.
- 40:00Speaker 4: There were reports that the Trump administration wanted to reach out,
- 40:04Speaker 4: knowing that the House is in jeopardy in this upcoming election.
- 40:08Speaker 4: And so they wanted to reach out and try to
- 40:10Speaker 4: establish some kind of a relationship if Democrats wind up
- 40:13Speaker 4: winning the House or Senate or both in the midterms.
- 40:17Speaker 3: And I guess....
- 40:20Speaker 4: Jeffries just got absolutely hammered by his own side after
- 40:23Speaker 4: he took that meeting.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Yeah, they don't want peace. They're not looking for bipartisanship
- 40:28Speaker 2: on the left. So like when you hear Annie Andrews
- 40:31Speaker 2: coming up and she'll say, you know, I'm looking to
- 40:34Speaker 2: reach across the aisle. You better not be. That's not
- 40:37Speaker 2: what the Democrats want. And by the way, I don't
- 40:39Speaker 2: think Hakeem Jeffries, if they were to win the House,
- 40:42Speaker 2: I don't think that's your speaker.
- 40:43Speaker 11: No.
- 40:44Speaker 3: I don't know who it would be, but it would
- 40:45Speaker 3: be not him. Well, we'll see.
- 40:48Speaker 2: It'll play out. Anyway, we'll take more of your talkbacks.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Just use the talkback feature on the iHeartRadio app. Either
- 40:53Speaker 2: you're celebrating Darlene Graham, you're upset today, you're angry with
- 40:57Speaker 2: Christopher and I, whatever. Just get it off your chest
- 40:59Speaker 2: because we're getting ready to move on to the general
- 41:01Speaker 2: election at 728. From the Midlands.
- 41:03Speaker 1: To the Lowcountry. This is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 41:08Speaker 2: You can use the Talkback feature this morning on the
- 41:10Speaker 2: iHeartRadio app to let us know your feelings, whether it's
- 41:12Speaker 2: in regards to last night's rather easy victory for Darlene Graham,
- 41:18Speaker 2: or maybe you have other thoughts on your mind this morning. And, oh,
- 41:20Speaker 2: Christopher says we do have one. Hey, guys, if the
- 41:23Speaker 2: Republicans lose this Senate seat, we have nobody to blame
- 41:27Speaker 2: but those people who voted for Darlene Graham.
- 41:31Speaker 3: That's the end of the Talkback. Okay.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Obviously, a Ralph Norman supporter, not too happy. Look, again,
- 41:39Speaker 2: please get your emotions out here today. We want them out.
- 41:41Speaker 2: We want to hear the pain. We want to hear
- 41:44Speaker 2: the celebrations that people are having. Politics is all about
- 41:50Speaker 2: getting votes. And so, you know, if Ralph Norman had
- 41:55Speaker 2: gotten more votes, then he'd be the nominee. But Darlene
- 41:58Speaker 2: Graham got more votes. And so if Darlene Graham gets
- 42:02Speaker 2: more votes than Annie Andrews, she'll be the next senator.
- 42:04Speaker 2: If she doesn't, you can't blame the people who voted
- 42:07Speaker 2: for Darlene Graham and say that she was an inferior candidate.
- 42:10Speaker 2: That was the will of the people last night. The
- 42:12Speaker 2: will of the people is what it is. I think
- 42:16Speaker 2: even Ralph Norman said something along that lines. He's disappointed
- 42:19Speaker 2: by it. He was disappointed that Trump got involved. But
- 42:23Speaker 2: it is the will of the people. And so this
- 42:25Speaker 2: is what South Carolina... you know, the Republican Party is
- 42:29Speaker 2: putting forth Darlene Graham. By the way, I know we
- 42:34Speaker 2: had mentioned Annie Andrews. People had reached out to me.
- 42:37Speaker 2: I responded yesterday. I'm willing to interview her. So maybe
- 42:42Speaker 2: we'll be having Annie Andrews on. I also heard from
- 42:45Speaker 2: the Libertarian Party. I think that they're telling me that
- 42:49Speaker 2: their candidate, because they do a radio show, is not
- 42:52Speaker 2: going to come on the show and be interviewed.
- 42:55Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 42:56Speaker 2: I'm not upset that Casey Whitener, I think is her name,
- 43:00Speaker 2: does another radio show in town, and I'm in Columbia.
- 43:03Speaker 2: It doesn't bother me. If she wanted to come on,
- 43:05Speaker 2: I would interview her. And I have not heard anything
- 43:09Speaker 2: from the Constitution Party. I saw WIS also tried to
- 43:12Speaker 2: get the representative from the Constitution Party on yesterday, and
- 43:15Speaker 2: they were unable to get a response.
- 43:18Speaker 3: So I don't.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Feel slighted, because if you can't respond to WIS, you're
- 43:22Speaker 2: not going to respond to Kelly Nash.
- 43:23Speaker 4: Well, if you're hearing from Annie Andrews, So is everyone else.
- 43:27Speaker 4: I mean, she's already running ads. She's spending supposedly half
- 43:31Speaker 4: million dollars next week in a blanketed, mainly TV, but
- 43:36Speaker 4: a blanketed approach to, you know, the aftermath of the
- 43:40Speaker 4: Graham win last night.
- 43:42Speaker 3: And I mean, there's I.
- 43:45Speaker 4: Get the sense that her campaign was happier, felt more
- 43:50Speaker 4: confident with Darlene Graham as an opponent than Ralph Norman.
- 43:54Speaker 3: Maybe so. But, you know, it's kind of like we
- 43:56Speaker 3: always say, be careful what you wish for.
- 43:58Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 43:59Speaker 2: The Graham campaign... I'm going back to my old rap days.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Graham campaign ain't nothing to blank with. Those people are legit.
- 44:09Speaker 2: They are assassins.
- 44:10Speaker 3: They win. That's all they do. Team Graham.
- 44:13Speaker 2: All they do is win, win, win, no matter what.
- 44:16Speaker 2: And so they're going to, I imagine they're going to win.
- 44:19Speaker 2: And I imagine they're going to win rather comfortably against
- 44:21Speaker 2: Annie Andrews, who is a pretty good candidate. I'd say
- 44:24Speaker 2: she was a better candidate than what's his face was
- 44:27Speaker 2: Jamie Harrison for a number of reasons. But the fact
- 44:31Speaker 2: that she's a doctor and she's a pediatrician and she
- 44:36Speaker 2: can speak very mom-like and appeal to mothers, I think
- 44:41Speaker 2: that that makes her a very attractive candidate. And she's
- 44:43Speaker 2: going to come across as such a moderate. Oh, my gosh.
- 44:46Speaker 2: She's going to be just common sense reforms people. When
- 44:50Speaker 2: she starts talking about, don't you want less gun violence?
- 44:53Speaker 2: I'm not looking to take your guns.
- 44:55Speaker 3: Of course not. Go hunting. Enjoy yourselves.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Have a great time. I'm just saying let's get them
- 44:59Speaker 2: out of the hands of the criminals. That's not what
- 45:01Speaker 2: she means. That's not what she means. But that's what
- 45:03Speaker 2: she'll say.
- 45:04Speaker 4: It's like every Democrat across the country. Forget everything I've
- 45:07Speaker 4: said the last five to six years. Now I'm going
- 45:10Speaker 4: to move to the center and pretend I'm one of you.
- 45:13Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 45:13Speaker 3: You know what?
- 45:14Speaker 6: Great.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Christopher, you've just reminded me of a clip that I
- 45:18Speaker 2: played last week. Now, last week I was on vacation,
- 45:20Speaker 2: but I still did my podcast, The National Briefing. And
- 45:23Speaker 2: I hope you guys get a chance to check that out.
- 45:25Speaker 2: That's on the I Heart Radio app. It's a 10-minute
- 45:27Speaker 2: morning podcast that I put up before 6 a.m. So
- 45:30Speaker 2: I can get on the air here at 6 a.m.
- 45:33Speaker 2: I'll be honest with you. I wasn't on before 6 a.m.
- 45:35Speaker 3: Last week.
- 45:36Speaker 2: Most of those podcasts went up later in the day,
- 45:39Speaker 2: but I still did a bunch of them. But I
- 45:40Speaker 2: am going to be just because you reminded me of it.
- 45:43Speaker 2: We are going to get a history lesson from Ronald
- 45:47Speaker 2: Reagan talking about Democrats. And Ronald Reagan is quoting Abraham Lincoln.
- 45:53Speaker 3: Talking about Democrats.
- 45:55Speaker 14: Wow.
- 45:55Speaker 2: This is this is a strong reminder for us to
- 45:58Speaker 2: launch into the general election. We'll get to that and
- 46:00Speaker 2: more coming up on South Carolina's morning news.
- 46:02Speaker 10: This is South Carolina's morning news on one Oh three,
- 46:05Speaker 10: five FM and five 60 AM WVOC Columbia and 94,
- 46:11Speaker 10: three WSC Charleston.
- 46:14Speaker 2: His name is Christopher Thompson. My name's Kelly Nash. It
- 46:16Speaker 2: is seven 43 and I'm juggling a lot of plates.
- 46:19Speaker 2: I hope I got to the actual right clip on
- 46:21Speaker 2: this speech. This was 1992, the Republican national convention. And
- 46:26Speaker 2: last week I was reminded of this, uh, Ronald Reagan.
- 46:30Speaker 2: So I'm going through his 40-minute speech or so, and
- 46:34Speaker 2: I think I've found the clip where Ronald Reagan is
- 46:37Speaker 2: reminding us that you can never trust Democrats and that
- 46:41Speaker 2: their solutions never work.
- 46:46Speaker 11: I heard those speakers at that other convention saying, we
- 46:51Speaker 11: won the Cold War. And I couldn't help wondering just
- 46:56Speaker 11: who exactly do they mean by we?
- 47:09Speaker 3: And, all right, and to.
- 47:12Speaker 11: Top it off, to top it off, they even tried
- 47:16Speaker 11: to portray themselves as sharing the same fundamental values of
- 47:21Speaker 11: our party. But they truly don't understand the principles so
- 47:29Speaker 11: eloquently stated by Abraham Lincoln. Quote, you cannot strengthen the
- 47:35Speaker 11: weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage
- 47:49Speaker 11: earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot help
- 47:56Speaker 11: the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot help men
- 48:03Speaker 11: permanently by doing for them what they could and should
- 48:08Speaker 11: do for themselves.
- 48:10Speaker 3: And the crowd goes wild.
- 48:12Speaker 2: I was probably one of those young Republicans in 1992
- 48:15Speaker 2: cheering on Ronald Reagan.
- 48:17Speaker 3: And it's true.
- 48:18Speaker 2: Now, listen, I know there's some controversy. Was that actually
- 48:21Speaker 2: from Abraham Lincoln? If you look online, there's some debate
- 48:24Speaker 2: about whether or not it's from Reagan or, excuse me,
- 48:26Speaker 2: from Lincoln, or if it was from a pastor named
- 48:29Speaker 2: William Botecker. It doesn't matter who it's from, to be
- 48:33Speaker 2: honest with you at this point. Can you deny the
- 48:35Speaker 2: truths that are in there?
- 48:36Speaker 3: Inspiring stuff. Yeah.
- 48:38Speaker 2: And Reagan rightly pointing out they act as if they
- 48:42Speaker 2: share your values. That's the only way they can win
- 48:44Speaker 2: votes is to act as if they share the same
- 48:47Speaker 2: values that you have.
- 48:48Speaker 3: Democrats have never. Well, not in my lifetime.
- 48:52Speaker 2: They have never shared the same values as Republicans. They
- 48:55Speaker 2: always act like they do. And they put forward candidates
- 48:57Speaker 2: around election time. around election times. And then, but they, they,
- 49:02Speaker 2: their solutions are completely backwards and their values do not
- 49:07Speaker 2: align with ours. So let's remember that as we head
- 49:09Speaker 2: into this general election with Annie Andrews, that is who
- 49:12Speaker 2: you need to defeat. Let's not tear each other apart.
- 49:14Speaker 2: Let's get fired up to win another victory and keep.
- 49:17Speaker 3: The streak alive.
- 49:18Speaker 2: No Democrat's to the Senate from South Carolina this century.
- 49:23Speaker 3: It's 746.
- 49:23Speaker 7: Live from the state Capitol, this is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 49:30Speaker 5: Hey, everyone.
- 49:31Speaker 15: Is it really that surprising that Graham won?
- 49:33Speaker 3: Let's face it. Think about the people that voted for Trump.
- 49:36Speaker 3: They did not want a politician in office.
- 49:38Speaker 6: They want somebody who's fresh. Those people spoke again and
- 49:41Speaker 6: voted for Graham.
- 49:42Speaker 3: There you go. That is a Graham supporter, I'm assuming.
- 49:46Speaker 2: John from Somerville, thank you for checking in on the
- 49:48Speaker 2: iHeartRadio app, using that talkback feature and letting your voice
- 49:51Speaker 2: be heard. That's what we're all about here this morning,
- 49:54Speaker 2: responding to the... Again, I am shocked because I was
- 49:58Speaker 2: looking at the polls, and we had multiple polls yesterday
- 50:02Speaker 2: that came out saying they were within tenths of a
- 50:05Speaker 2: point of one another. And then Darlene ends up running
- 50:08Speaker 2: away with it with a five-point win. I credit that
- 50:11Speaker 2: to the MAGA Inc. $ 830, 000 buy that came in to
- 50:17Speaker 2: get more texts and calls out over the weekend. She
- 50:23Speaker 2: separated herself by 18,000 total votes. And I think that
- 50:26Speaker 2: that's probably what did it. The polling probably wasn't inaccurate.
- 50:30Speaker 2: It probably, when they did it on friday saturday whatever
- 50:34Speaker 2: it was still accurate but by by tuesday things had
- 50:39Speaker 2: changed because so many calls and text messages went out
- 50:41Speaker 2: and i heard i read a lot of people saying
- 50:43Speaker 2: look i so my name i actually knew yeah it
- 50:46Speaker 2: was darling graham i hadn't even really heard about this
- 50:48Speaker 2: guy ralph norman.
- 50:49Speaker 4: Yeah kelly that ad blitz was extremely effective as was
- 50:52Speaker 4: graham and let's give credit to lindsey graham staff i
- 50:55Speaker 4: mean they know how to get out the vote they've
- 50:57Speaker 4: done it before they did it again yesterday every place
- 51:01Speaker 4: she needed More votes.
- 51:03Speaker 3: She got them.
- 51:04Speaker 4: Every place Norman needed more votes, other than the upstate,
- 51:07Speaker 4: he didn't get them.
- 51:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. That Graham team is, they're killers.
- 51:13Speaker 2: It's hard to go against them.
- 51:15Speaker 3: All they do is win, win, win, no matter what.
- 51:17Speaker 2: Now, speaking of your requests, we put it out earlier
- 51:21Speaker 2: this week. Would you like me to talk to Annie Andrews? Now, obviously,
- 51:26Speaker 2: I'm not a sympathetic ear for her to talk to,
- 51:30Speaker 2: but she has requested that. And so I said earlier
- 51:34Speaker 2: to the show, I've responded. I don't know if Annie's
- 51:36Speaker 2: listening on the iHeartRadio app, but if she is, good morning.
- 51:40Speaker 2: She's apparently ready to go. So next Friday, we're going
- 51:43Speaker 2: to have Annie Andrews on the show.
- 51:44Speaker 3: Fantastic.
- 51:46Speaker 2: And again, I will be as respectful as possible. but
- 51:50Speaker 2: still push back on, I'm sure, all of her solutions.
- 51:54Speaker 2: All of her solutions will be pushed back upon because
- 51:58Speaker 2: just reading her website, I can tell you there's about
- 52:00Speaker 2: 18 problems I see on her website right now. So
- 52:04Speaker 2: we'll have our little discussion next Friday morning, but excited
- 52:07Speaker 2: to have Annie Andrews on the show. And like I said,
- 52:11Speaker 2: I can't get the Libertarian on apparently because they're on
- 52:13Speaker 2: the radio competing with us. And I think that there's
- 52:16Speaker 2: some sort of I don't know what that is. But
- 52:19Speaker 2: according to– I got an email from somebody at the
- 52:22Speaker 2: Libertarian Party apologizing. So I'm assuming that that means it's
- 52:26Speaker 2: a no-go. But we'll also reach out to the Constitution Party.
- 52:29Speaker 2: And I think everybody– there's like eight other people I
- 52:31Speaker 2: saw that are going to be write-ins.
- 52:33Speaker 6: Oh, boy.
- 52:33Speaker 3: So I don't know.
- 52:34Speaker 2: We're probably not going to deal with the write-ins. You've
- 52:37Speaker 2: got to be nominated by a party. That's my golden rule.
- 52:40Speaker 3: Okay.
- 52:40Speaker 2: 754– More of South Carolina's morning news coming up after
- 52:45Speaker 2: the top of the hour.
- 52:46Speaker 3: Hope you're having a great start to your day.
- 52:48Speaker 1: This is South Carolina's morning news.
- 52:52Speaker 6: Which endorsement made the best splash? Would it be Tim
- 52:55Speaker 6: Scott or ultimately would have been from Donald Trump? I'm
- 53:02Speaker 6: leaning towards Tim Scott making more of an impression with
- 53:06Speaker 6: Darlene Graham.
- 53:08Speaker 3: I appreciate the talk back.
- 53:10Speaker 6: I wish.
- 53:11Speaker 3: Please leave your name and what town you're from.
- 53:13Speaker 2: I would love to address you and let you know
- 53:16Speaker 2: how much I appreciate you, whoever you were.
- 53:18Speaker 3: That was Scott from West Ashley. Scott from West Ashley.
- 53:22Speaker 2: Christopher got the inside info on you. So thank you,
- 53:25Speaker 2: Scott from West Ashley. Yeah, I can see where you
- 53:29Speaker 2: would come down with that. I was just reading Donald
- 53:32Speaker 2: Trump had a rough month. He had six candidates that
- 53:38Speaker 2: he endorsed lose in the last month. three last week.
- 53:43Speaker 2: So last night he got not only Darlene Graham across
- 53:47Speaker 2: the finish line, but he also got the Oklahoma governor's
- 53:51Speaker 2: race to go the way he wanted. And that was
- 53:54Speaker 2: very tight. Mike Mazai, I think is his name. He
- 53:57Speaker 2: got 186,000 votes to Ginter Drummond, 184,700 votes. I mean,
- 53:59Speaker 2: it was just a couple, it's like not even 2000
- 54:01Speaker 2: votes really separated those two.
- 54:02Speaker 3: So that was a very tight race.
- 54:11Speaker 2: And Oklahoma and Trump's endorsement certainly would have helped a
- 54:14Speaker 2: little bit there. When you look at the Trump rally
- 54:18Speaker 2: in Horry County, I mean, we were talking about this earlier.
- 54:22Speaker 2: The Horry County, well, not just Horry County, but all
- 54:25Speaker 2: of Russell Fry's district was the biggest Graham supporting district.
- 54:33Speaker 2: That really moved the needle, I think, would not only
- 54:36Speaker 2: be the rally, but Russell Fry's endorsement. People put a
- 54:39Speaker 2: lot of stake, I think, in him switching so quickly
- 54:43Speaker 2: to her. But the argument for Tim Scott is it's
- 54:48Speaker 2: been a quiet endorsement, I would say, but it's also
- 54:51Speaker 2: kind of what you would expect from a senator. You
- 54:52Speaker 2: don't expect him to be too splashy like a House member.
- 54:55Speaker 2: You expect him to be a little more flashy, I guess.
- 54:59Speaker 4: Kelly, he was all over the media after that debate
- 55:03Speaker 4: Tuesday night. I mean, he really strongly came to her defense.
- 55:08Speaker 4: And not only that, but he also had a lot
- 55:10Speaker 4: of money to bring with him because he's the chair
- 55:12Speaker 4: of what the national Republican senators, whatever the reelection campaign
- 55:18Speaker 4: that national Republicans run on behalf of senators. He's in
- 55:21Speaker 4: charge of that right now. And he brought a lot
- 55:23Speaker 4: of money to bear with that, too. And you're allowed
- 55:25Speaker 4: with that to coordinate with the campaign, unlike Pax. So
- 55:30Speaker 4: he actually spent money in coordination with the Graham campaign.
- 55:34Speaker 4: And it worked out.
- 55:35Speaker 3: Yeah. And again, she won by 18,000 votes.
- 55:38Speaker 2: So are you saying that it's his endorsement or are
- 55:41Speaker 2: you saying it's his money that helped?
- 55:43Speaker 3: Well, again, you know, there were a lot of people.
- 55:46Speaker 4: There weren't many people coming to Darlene Graham's defense after
- 55:50Speaker 4: that foreign policy flub on Tuesday night in Newberry. He
- 55:53Speaker 4: was one of the first, one of the loudest and
- 55:56Speaker 4: one of the most consistent people. I mean, he, I
- 55:58Speaker 4: think he was on every one of the talk shows
- 56:00Speaker 4: on Sunday, talking her up. He did a lot of
- 56:02Speaker 4: appearances on Fox news the last few days before the campaign.
- 56:06Speaker 4: And he really, he built her campaign back up after
- 56:09Speaker 4: that flub.
- 56:10Speaker 2: Well, and let's not act as if there weren't other
- 56:13Speaker 2: people who were defending her. I mean, we have, uh,
- 56:15Speaker 2: obviously on Friday, you've got the governor of the state
- 56:18Speaker 2: of South Carolina coming to her defense and endorsing her.
- 56:21Speaker 2: You've got the president, you've got, uh, pretty much every
- 56:26Speaker 2: elected official it felt like in this state was for
- 56:30Speaker 2: Darlene Graham, which some would say that was actually working
- 56:33Speaker 2: against her. Some people, I think a lot of the
- 56:37Speaker 2: Norman supporters looked at it that way, like, oh my gosh,
- 56:39Speaker 2: if they're all for her, that can't be a good thing.
- 56:42Speaker 4: That makes her the establishment was their argument.
- 56:44Speaker 2: Yes, that's the way a lot of Norman supporters interpreted
- 56:48Speaker 2: that data. But yeah, I would say certainly Tim Scott
- 56:53Speaker 2: holds a lot of weight in this state and his
- 56:56Speaker 2: endorsement certainly, I would think factored into at least some
- 57:00Speaker 2: of those people who made a late decision to vote
- 57:03Speaker 2: for Darlene Graham. And we also have to point out again,
- 57:06Speaker 2: we had more people turn out yesterday than we did
- 57:09Speaker 2: two weeks ago.
- 57:10Speaker 3: That's incredible.
- 57:11Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 57:11Speaker 4: When does that happen? A runoff after school has started
- 57:15Speaker 4: in the middle of August. Yeah. I mean, that just
- 57:19Speaker 4: shows how many people were invested in this race.
- 57:22Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 57:23Speaker 3: Which bodes well for November. Well, if you can unify them.
- 57:26Speaker 3: If you can unify them. That's the whole thing. Kelly,
- 57:28Speaker 3: great point.
- 57:29Speaker 2: We have 175,000 Ralph Norman voters, and I would say
- 57:34Speaker 2: probably 100,000 of them are really angry right now, it
- 57:37Speaker 2: feels like. I mean, we heard from the guy, I'm
- 57:40Speaker 2: embarrassed by my state. If you're on social media, my gosh,
- 57:44Speaker 2: it is so ugly on social media. I don't even
- 57:46Speaker 2: know why I go on there. It's just brutal what
- 57:50Speaker 2: these people, what you say to each other on social media.
- 57:53Speaker 2: You know, we talk to Abby every now and again.
- 57:57Speaker 2: She is, she's one, I think the press, I think
- 57:59Speaker 2: her official title is like press secretary for Darlene Graham.
- 58:02Speaker 2: You'll see her usually in the background. She'll always, like
- 58:06Speaker 2: if Darlene Graham's in a shot, you'll probably see Abby
- 58:08Speaker 2: near her. All she posted was Team Graham forever last night.
- 58:15Speaker 2: And you would have thought she would have said, I'm
- 58:17Speaker 2: for killing babies or something. I mean, the response that
- 58:20Speaker 2: she's getting, like, you're a traitor. You're a blankety blank rhino.
- 58:25Speaker 3: You're this. I mean, people, we're all on the same team.
- 58:30Speaker 2: I mean, it might not be who you wanted to
- 58:33Speaker 2: be the starting quarterback, but that's who our starting quarterback is.
- 58:35Speaker 3: So we got to rally behind the starter.
- 58:38Speaker 4: And Kelly, if you're a Norman supporter, your credentials, his
- 58:43Speaker 4: credentials certainly were more established conservative credentials than anything we
- 58:48Speaker 4: knew about darling if you're conservative who supported ralph norman
- 58:53Speaker 4: how can you possibly think about voting for anyone on
- 58:56Speaker 4: the other side in this upcoming november election.
- 58:58Speaker 2: I'm not concerned that they would vote say for the
- 59:02Speaker 2: libertarian or the constitutionalist or a right and i'm not
- 59:05Speaker 2: concerned with that i'm concerned that they're going to sit
- 59:08Speaker 2: it out OK.
- 59:09Speaker 3: And they're certainly not going to vote for any Andrews.
- 59:12Speaker 6: Right.
- 59:12Speaker 2: If you're there's no way she's converting a Norman supporter
- 59:16Speaker 2: to her team.
- 59:16Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 59:18Speaker 2: But we we need all of you. Every one of
- 59:22Speaker 2: your votes is important. Look, last night was 18,000 votes.
- 59:26Speaker 2: I don't think it's going to be that close. I
- 59:28Speaker 2: hope it's not that close. I don't want it to
- 59:30Speaker 2: be that close. I want it to be, you know,
- 59:33Speaker 2: Trump's too big to rig phrase. I don't think that
- 59:35Speaker 2: we're going to have any rigging or any shenanigans in
- 59:38Speaker 2: our elections. But I also want to send a clear
- 59:40Speaker 2: message that the Republican team dominates South Carolina.
- 59:45Speaker 3: That is not and it's not in question.
- 59:49Speaker 2: As somebody in the media, I appreciate the fact that
- 59:51Speaker 2: the Democrats want to spend a lot of money.
- 59:53Speaker 3: On media down here. Please invest.
- 59:55Speaker 2: Come on down and try to get some of our
- 59:57Speaker 2: listeners to vote for your Democrat candidates.
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: I encourage that. We like money. We like capitalism.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: We're all about it. But I want them to be discouraged.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: Kobe Bryant once had a phrase, which I loved. They
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: were saying to him, like, why do you go so
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: hard on like a Tuesday night in Memphis in a
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: game where you're already up 20? And he said, my
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: goal is not to win the game. My goal is
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: to make you regret that you ever decided to be
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: in the NBA. I want Democrats to regret their decisions.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: I want them to know that they are not welcome.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: Your liberal policies, we do not tolerate them here. We
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: don't want liberalism. Liberalism is a slippery slide to death.
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: There is no positive things that come from liberalism. Zero, zilch,
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: never happened, never will. We reject it in South Carolina.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: That's the message I want them to get. Hopefully we'll
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: get that in the general election, Christopher. We'll see how
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: it turns out. It's 8-11 now on South Carolina's Morning News.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: You're listening to South Carolina's Morning News.
- 1:00:58Speaker 16: Good morning, gentlemen. This is Christy from Mount Pleasant. Just
- 1:01:01Speaker 16: to let you know, I voted for Darlene Graham for
- 1:01:05Speaker 16: a multitude of reasons, but primarily because I think she'll
- 1:01:09Speaker 16: support the Save America Act. I also like that she's
- 1:01:12Speaker 16: a mom going up against Annie Andrews. I think that
- 1:01:15Speaker 16: will be effective on abortion issues and boys and girls sports. Also,
- 1:01:20Speaker 16: because I like the idea of going back to citizens
- 1:01:25Speaker 16: serving in Congress and the Senate.
- 1:01:28Speaker 11: All right.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: What was her name again, Christopher? Christy from Mount Pleasant.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: Christy from Mount Pleasant. Thank you for your talk back.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: And citizens serving... In the Congress. I know that was
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: a motivating factor for a lot of folks. And it'll
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: be interesting to see. We expect Darlene Graham to win.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: I mean, I saw the calci markets got her at
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: like a 78% chance of winning right now. Democrats are
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: smelling blood in the water. They're going to be spending
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: a lot of money here to make that not happen.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: But if she's fortunate enough to get through, maybe I
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: should say if we are fortunate enough to get the
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: Republican through— Um, would she run for a second term?
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: Would she want to, would she be, or would she
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: term limit herself and say, look, I did six years
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: and two months or whatever. And, uh, that's probably enough.
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: And she'd be in her seventies, I think by then, uh,
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: would she, or she'd be at least approaching 70 or
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: would she say, no, no, no, we're going to go
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: for another one and maybe another one.
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: Who knows? Maybe, I don't know.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: Will it be become the Graham seat? So to speak,
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: Debbie Dingle is, uh, somebody who maybe you don't know.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: She's a house member. from Michigan, the Dingle family, it's
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: in the third generation.
- 1:02:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: The Dingles have had that. And her husband was the
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: longest running. I think he still is the longest running
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: house member in history. It was like 58 years or something.
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: He was up. It was ridiculous. I mean, and his
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: father started it.
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: And so his wife won the seat and she's won
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: it like three or four times now as well. So
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: it could become the Graham seat, like the Dingle seat
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: in Michigan.
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: Well, at what point, Kelly, do you become not a citizen,
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: but a politician? And then you have to turn and say, well, OK,
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: we wanted you to elect us before because we're not
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: a politician. But after six years, aren't you a politician?
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: I mean, do people consider Donald Trump a politician? I
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: don't know.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: I think a lot of them still think he's a businessman.
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: And I would say that his first term, there was
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: a lot of flubs because he was a businessman. And
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: he made some political errors and trusted some people that
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: had he been around Washington, he would have known don't
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: trust these people. He's not making as many of those
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: types of mistakes anymore. He's cleaned up the game. But
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: it's an ugly business. And so sometimes you need professionals.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: And that's what the staffs are for. I know a
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: lot of people don't want to hear that. But the
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: staffs do a lot of the heavy lifting. And so
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: the Graham staff is one of the best. And so
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: they'll do a lot of the heavy lifting and they'll
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: help guide her through this. And so it'll be, I
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: don't want to say it's the same as if Lindsay
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: was there because Lindsay was actually somebody who was crafting
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: policy alongside the president and nudging the president in certain directions.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: I was talking to Chris Ruddy, the guy who runs
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: Newsmax at the Graham funeral. And he was talking about
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: how Lindsey Graham would contact Newsmax and Fox and say, put,
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: get this out, get, get this kind of vibe out about,
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: I think it was about the memorandum of understanding with
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: the Iranians, what he wanted put into that.
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: And cause it wasn't in there. And so they would
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: have people saying, Oh, it's not in there. Okay. And
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: they would get an op-ed piece on the air.
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: And then sure enough, you know, 15 hours later, Donald
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: Trump's on truth social going, Hey, we're going to put
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: this in there.
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: The white house reacts.
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: They, Lindsey Graham had that ability. I don't expect Darlene.
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: Will because again, national security is not her thing.
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: Well, going back to the, I'm a citizen, not a
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: politician argument. Remember that's the argument she and her surrogates
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: used after the Tuesday night debate. And it, it wound up,
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: you know, a lot of people felt comfortable with that saying, okay, well,
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: you know what?
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: She was honest. She's not a politician. Oh, she's, she,
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: she is very honest.
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: She is a, from what I can tell, I've never,
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: I spoken to her briefly, not on air, but, but
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: just in person for, you know, not even a minute,
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: I don't think. But from what I can see from
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: her public persona, she's not going to lie per, you know,
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: per se. I mean, there's always some sort of bending
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: of the truth in politics, but I don't expect her
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: to ever come on out and just tell you a lie.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: like you would expect from most politicians. I think she's
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: going to be very honest. And I think that she
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: would probably tell you the staff is doing the heavy lifting.
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: And that's why you should feel comfortable. And again, I
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: know a lot of our listeners didn't like Lindsey Graham.
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: So you're probably not going to like his sister either.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: But Lindsey Graham overwhelmingly won this state numerous times. And
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: I expect her to do the same. But again, if
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: you missed the news earlier, we're going to have Dr.
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: Annie Andrews will be a guest next Friday. That's according
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: to her press people. They've reached out and we've aligned that.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: So next Friday morning, we'll be talking to the Democrat
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: nominee for Senate. Maybe we'll get the Republican. Again, we've
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: invited Darlene Graham numerous times. Maybe now that we're out
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: of the primary season and into the general election, I
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: hope to have her on the show as well.
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: It is 821.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: Your news, traffic, weather, and information stations.
- 1:06:41Speaker 10: This is South Carolina's Morning News on 103.5 FM, 560 AM, WVOC.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: And 94.3 WSC. Hey, this is.
- 1:06:53Speaker 5: Roy in Charleston.
- 1:06:55Speaker 15: I want you to know that if we do not
- 1:06:57Speaker 15: vote for Graham, which I did not. We're going to
- 1:07:01Speaker 15: lose the Senate. We're going to lose the House. This
- 1:07:03Speaker 15: midterms will be a wreck of nothing but impeachment investigations
- 1:07:08Speaker 15: against Trump, and we will get nothing done. We already
- 1:07:11Speaker 15: haven't got anything done, thanks to Thune, but we've got
- 1:07:14Speaker 15: to save this republic by saving our leadership in the
- 1:07:20Speaker 15: House and Senate.
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: Appreciate the talk back from Charleston. And the, uh, look, I,
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: I totally agree in the sense that we need to,
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: it's great to hear he didn't vote for Graham, but
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: he's all team Graham today.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: He's ready to unify the party.
- 1:07:39Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: I mean, I, I'm not expecting everybody to get on
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: board that quickly. Like I said, today's Christopher was reminding
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: us of the 24 hour rule that, uh, I guess
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: what a lot of coaches.
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: Use this coaches say you can celebrate a victory or
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: you can mourn a loss for 24 hours. And then
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: it's onto the next opponent.
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: So you have until tonight at 9 o'clock to be
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: in mourning, be upset if you're a Team Ralph, if
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: you're a Darlene supporter, have a great time until 9
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: o'clock tonight. Then recognize that everything shifts and we have
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: to get back into campaign mode and we do have
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: to unify the party. I will tell you that when
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: you look at the Democrats' chances of winning the Senate,
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: They're not considering South Carolina a competitive race, but they
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: would still need to win seven out of nine competitive races,
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: which would be pretty shocking for them to pull off.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: I fully expect the Senate to remain with the Republicans.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: The House, not so much there. But the Senate does
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: serve as a little bit of a buffer. Obviously, when
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: it comes to impeachments and things like that, the House
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: can impeach all day long.
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: Just keep throwing.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: You don't want that, but that's what they can do.
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: But if they don't have the Senate, then nothing's really
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: going to happen. And that's really what we're going to be.
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: At.
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: We're going to be at a stalemate.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: For the last two years of the Trump administration. And
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: then pray for the best, you know, pray you don't,
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: oh my gosh, I can't even imagine if they were
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: to win the presidency and have the house, even if
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: they didn't get the Senate in two years from then.
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: But Anyway, we're going to take a quick break.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: By the way, we're still in mourning as a nation
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: over Dolly Parton. Flags are at half-mast under the president's
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: orders for a week, I believe it is. But there
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: is another very popular musician who I think was kind
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: of walking down that path of Dolly Parton-dom, meaning they
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: were straddling the political fences and were just unifying everybody, threw.
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: All of that away last night.
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: I'll play you that clip and more as we continue
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: with South Carolina's Morning News.
- 1:09:47Speaker 10: Midlands to the Low Country. This is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: You know, America is in mourning.
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: Even if you didn't like country music, you probably liked
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Dolly Parton.
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: She was fun.
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: She always lit up the room. She was always being kind.
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: She was always trying to unify people. And she did
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: so much great charity work. And so now the flags
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: will be at half-mast this week for her passing. And
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: we all are sad to see her go there. There
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: are very few people who could walk in those shoes,
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: but there has been a musician in Tennessee who I
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: don't want to say similar backgrounds, but also from Tennessee,
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: also from a poor background, but also I shouldn't say
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: also uniquely went to prison for a, for a while.
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: And we've all been cheering on jelly roll. Jelly roll
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: has turned his life around. Um, lost a ton of weight,
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: very successful musician now, is doing a lot with charities,
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: got the Buddy DeFord Charitable Fund. That was in honor
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: of his father. Support prisons, ministry, homelessness, food, mental health programs,
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: all that sort of stuff. Regularly donates 100% of the
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: profits from specific merchandise to help out with mental illness.
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: And again, this is a guy who's got a platform that,
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: possibly could have kind of walked in that. I don't
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: think he's as shiny. He's not as fun maybe as,
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: as Dolly Parton was, but he's in that ilk. And
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: it's very sad to see that last night he decided
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: to host the Jimmy Kimmel show. Not that that's bad.
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: I mean, obviously most of us are not Jimmy Kimmel fans. However,
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: he chose to go Jimmy Kimmel style quote, Think about this, y'all.
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: In the last few years, I've lost over 300 pounds.
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: That means I lost an entire Donald Trump. And based
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: on his approval ratings, it seems like most of the
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: country wants to do the same thing.
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: That's okay. All right.
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: That's a little bit of a political shot. Dolly would
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: have never said anything like that, I don't think. But
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: let's go even further. And I'm playing this now at
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: 837 because I think 8.30 is the latest school's start.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: I wouldn't even feel comfortable playing this if I thought
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: kids were listening. Although I know it's cleared for airplay
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: because it was on ABC last night.
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: Well, Mr.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: President, from one fat pig to another, take it from
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: me that physical fitness is very important.
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: And trust me, you'll be happy to see your penis again.
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: I do speak from a little bit of experience here, y'all.
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: The first time I seen mine recently, I was surprised
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: at how cute it was. There you go. So there's
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: Jelly Roll talking about the president's privates, and why would
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: you do this? Christopher, you're stunned silent. I am stunned.
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: I knew you were setting me up for a letdown
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: when it came to Jelly Roll. I didn't know which
- 1:12:50Speaker 4: direction he was going to go, and that's not what
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: I expected.
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: No, very disappointing.
- 1:12:55Speaker 4: And again, and very anti Dolly Parton. I mean, Dolly Parton,
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: she was the master of making a joke about her
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: body shape, but yes, did it in a self deprecating way,
- 1:13:04Speaker 4: not taking shots at other people.
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: Last night, I I'm sure a lot of people did this.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: I spent a lot of yesterday kind of reliving the
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: Dolly hits. And, and there was like a video, somebody
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: put out like the top 20 Dolly moments. And one
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: of them was, there was a bunch of them where
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: she was on like, like some sort of talk shows
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: and she would just kind of off the, off the cuff.
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: Like one of the, I love the line where some
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: lady said, how long does it take you to do
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: your hair?
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: And she said, how would I know? I'm never there
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: when they do it.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: There was some, another bald guy kind of, you know,
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: he had like the, the hair that I would have
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: if I didn't shave my head, you know, just nothing
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: on top, some on the side. And he said, you know,
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: I know you invest a lot in wigs. Should I
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: consider getting hair transplants or maybe I should go with
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: a toupee or And she said, well, just because you
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: lost your fuzz don't.
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: Mean that you're not a peach. She had great lines.
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: She did. But she never really put anybody down. Other
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: than herself. Other than herself. Yeah.
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: And Jelly Roll, again, I'm not saying this is the
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: end of his career or anything, but he leaves a
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: bad taste in a lot of people's mouths this morning. Again,
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: you could have filled in for Kimmel without being as
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: hateful as he is. But that's not the road he.
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: Chose to go on.
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: I guess maybe he probably just used the Kimmel writers instead.
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: And that's what they gave him.
- 1:14:18Speaker 11: All right.
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: Well, we'll be back with more. I guess we got
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: a bunch of your talkbacks. We're going to get to those.
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: And if you've got a talkback, use the talkback feature
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: on the iHeartRadio app.
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: It's 839.
- 1:14:26Speaker 10: This is South Carolina's morning news on 103.5 FM and
- 1:14:30Speaker 10: 560 AM, WVOC, Columbia, and 94.3 WSC, Charleston.
- 1:14:37Speaker 17: This is Ron from Columbia, South Carolina. Her getting elected
- 1:14:42Speaker 17: last night just proves that the swamp is in control.
- 1:14:44Speaker 17: The taxpayers have no say. And move over Murkowski and Collins.
- 1:14:49Speaker 17: South Carolina's got her now.
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: Okay. Some hurt feelings, obviously. A little harsh, perhaps.
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: I appreciate the talk back. Like we said, Christopher, you
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: gave them the 24-hour rule. So you got until 9
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: o'clock tonight to get it off your chest.
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: You're upset. Throw the temper tantrums. Have at it. this
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: is your safe space. You're in a safe space.
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: Now, I don't know if you, you might not be
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: in a mental state to hear what I'm going to say,
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: but I, I think it's important that you understand Darlene
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: Graham is going to be more conservative than most senators
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: than most. And I'll, and he threw out the name
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: Collins and Murkowski. Well, even they, I'm just looking at
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: Lisa Murkowski right now. Lisa Murkowski voted with the president
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: 73% of the time. Susan Collins voted with the president
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: 77% of the time. Go and check somebody like Bernie Sanders.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: How often does he vote with the president? Elizabeth Warren.
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: I mean, you're talking about less than 10% of the time.
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: And that's where Dr. Annie Andrews would be. So even
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: if she was the Collins or Murkowski of the South,
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: It would still be a vast improvement. It would be
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: an upgrade over Annie Andrews by about 100%. So, listen,
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: I get it that you didn't get the candidate you wanted,
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: and it doesn't mean that the swamp won. Donald Trump,
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: unless you're saying Donald Trump is the swamp, if Donald
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: Trump is the swamp, then the swamp won.
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: But if Donald Trump's the swamp, then we're all in trouble.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: Because that's the guy that we're, that we sent to
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: fight the swamp. And he said, this is the person
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: I want. And that held a lot of weight. And
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: Tim Scott is Tim Scott, the swamp. This is who
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: he said he wanted. I mean, everybody on the Republican
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: machine said they wanted her and they got her. Now,
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: can they get us across? Can they get her across
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: the finish line? I'm thinking they can, but I'm not
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: 100% sure. Just based off a lot of, again, Ralph
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: Norman got, what, 175,000 votes?
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: She had 193,000 votes.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: Of the 175,000, we're going to need about 174,000 of
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: you to come along. A thousand of you can sit
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: it out if you want. But of the other 174,000,
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: you need to get on Team Republican, Team Graham.
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: Starting tomorrow. Again, you've got until 9 o'clock to moan
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: about this. And do it. Get it off your chest.
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: Feel better about the fact that you're going to vote
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: for a candidate that is infinitely better than Annie Andrews.
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: Infinitely.
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: By the way, Annie Andrews will be appearing on this
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: show next Friday. So we'll see what she has to
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: say for herself then.
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: It's now 8.47.
- 1:17:36Speaker 7: Live from the state capitol, this is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: Good morning, Dan from Somerville. First of all, rest easy,
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: Miss Dolly. Second of all, I see.
- 1:17:50Speaker 14: Yesterday's election as a choice between cheese pizza or pepperoni pizza.
- 1:17:56Speaker 14: I'm going to eat either one. But the election November
- 1:18:01Speaker 14: is between pizza and a really bad wilted salad.
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: Have a great day.
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: Well, Dan from Somerville, that is a great final talkback
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: of the day. I really appreciate that perspective, and that
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: is a good way of putting it. You have your
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: choice between maybe you love pepperoni, but you didn't get pepperoni.
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: You got cheese pizza.
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: Heck, you might have even gotten the Hawaiian pizza that
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: nobody likes with the stupid pineapple and bacon on it.
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: I don't know. A bad pizza is still pizza. Damn
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: right it is. Damn right. And the wilted salad. You
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: know what?
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: I don't know if Dan meant it to be this deep,
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: but I'm going to take it deep.
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: Oh boy.
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: A wilted salad is a perfect analogy because it, if
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: you don't know that it's wilted, you think it's a
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: healthy thing. You think this is a good thing and
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: then you eat it and it makes you sick. That's
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: what the Democrats will do. They will make you sick.
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: They pose as something healthy. Oh, I'm a fruit and
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: I'm a vegetable. Oh, but you're filled with that stuff
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: that gives me explosive diarrhea.
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: That's what that is.
- 1:19:08Speaker 3: Democrats, you give me explosive diarrhea.
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: Christopher, this has been a lot of fun today. I
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: think we served the community well today. We were a
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: sounding board. We didn't even get to all the talkbacks.
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: This is the first show I think that we've done
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: where we couldn't get to all of them today.
- 1:19:23Speaker 4: We were a sanctuary. For those who felt, you know,
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: uncomfortable with last night, you had a chance to weigh in.
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: If you liked what happened last night and you're looking
- 1:19:33Speaker 4: forward to the general, you had a chance to weigh in.
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: Now it's time to motivate toward November.
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: But again, using Christopher Thompson's 24-hour rule, you'll have until
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: 9 o'clock tonight to mourn.
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: You won't—and celebrate. And celebrate. Again, there's a lot of
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: Darlene Graham supporters who are celebrating today. And good. Have
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: a big time.
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: Enjoy it. Or if you're upset, mourn it. But recognize
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: that you still have more pizza to eat. We're going
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: to get to the pizza. It's going to be a
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: big pizza party moving forward. We're all getting on board
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: as we try to unite the Republicans and get ready
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: for the general election in just 70 days or so.
- 1:20:07Speaker 6: All right.
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: Have a great day or a sad day. Either way.
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: We'll be back tomorrow, though, to get you all back
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: on the right track on South Carolina's morning news.
