- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. After ten yard line, second to day three
- 0:09Speaker 1: wide receivers now in motion as Bumpas left to right,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Julius Jones, a single setback Matt Pumpecks looking at the
- 0:14Speaker 1: goal line, he throws it into the endshone touchdown Seahawks.
- 0:19Speaker 1: It's Michael Bumpas with a diving catching the end zone.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Our ten yard touchdown reception for Bumpas and the kid
- 0:26Speaker 1: out of Washington State has found himself a place on
- 0:29Speaker 1: this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. You are listening
- 0:35Speaker 1: to Hawk Talk Recap edition on Michael Bumpas along with
- 0:38Speaker 1: Nassa Choby. The Seahawks beat the Rams twenty to nine,
- 0:41Speaker 1: and they clinched the division first time since twenty sixteen.
- 0:46Speaker 1: And like always, let's jump into the trenches with Ray Roberts.
- 0:52Speaker 1: It's time to go inside the trenches with former Seahawk
- 0:55Speaker 1: Ray Roberts. Big Ray Hogs get it done. They clinched
- 1:01Speaker 1: the division, something we haven't seen in a few years.
- 1:04Speaker 1: It's your overall thoughts of that game last night. You know,
- 1:07Speaker 1: it was just kind of good to see, like good
- 1:09Speaker 1: complimentary football. You know. The offense wasn't, you know, tearing
- 1:14Speaker 1: it up, but they were making progress and keeping themselves
- 1:17Speaker 1: in the game, and the defense was just doing what
- 1:19Speaker 1: they've been doing over the last five or six weeks. Man,
- 1:21Speaker 1: they just been playing really good football, like top ten
- 1:25Speaker 1: level football, keeping the Rams out of the end zone,
- 1:29Speaker 1: help making them settle for three field goals before the halftime,
- 1:33Speaker 1: and then pretty much shutting them down in the second half.
- 1:36Speaker 1: So I thought I felt really good about how they've
- 1:39Speaker 1: won the last two weeks. It seems like they had
- 1:42Speaker 1: a formula and a plan going in. May not have
- 1:44Speaker 1: been the prettiest football, but it was victory football. Victory football.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Can't complain with that. Chris Carson, Man, he had nineteen
- 1:51Speaker 1: touches for seventy nine yards. What'd you see out of him?
- 1:54Speaker 1: Do you think that they are utilizing him the right way?
- 1:57Speaker 1: I believe he averaged around fifteen touches before that. I'm
- 2:00Speaker 1: just thoughts about Chris Carson. Yeah, I think, you know,
- 2:03Speaker 1: they've done a remarkable job since he's come back and
- 2:06Speaker 1: keeping him affective. So like, yeah, like you know, I
- 2:09Speaker 1: would love to see it. I'm sure the fans would
- 2:11Speaker 1: love to see him get up to like twenty twenty
- 2:13Speaker 1: two carries a game and maybe break the century mark,
- 2:16Speaker 1: you know, a couple of times. But I think they
- 2:18Speaker 1: were kind of managing his caseload just so that he
- 2:21Speaker 1: could get to the playoffs, so he can remain healthy,
- 2:23Speaker 1: so he can remain effective, and they've done an excellent job.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Before he got hurt, he was averaging about thirteen to
- 2:29Speaker 1: fourteen carries for about sixty five yards, and that's pretty
- 2:32Speaker 1: much where they keep him for every game. And so
- 2:35Speaker 1: this game be average over four yards to carry. He
- 2:37Speaker 1: can't ask some more than that when they call on him.
- 2:39Speaker 1: He's been productive, and I think they're just waiting to
- 2:41Speaker 1: really unleash more of that running game once they get
- 2:44Speaker 1: into the playoffs. Yeah, I'm with you. I think we're
- 2:47Speaker 1: just really seeing what Chris Carson can really do. I
- 2:51Speaker 1: want them to get back to what twenty eighteen, twenty
- 2:54Speaker 1: nineteen when he was getting a bunch of touches. So
- 2:56Speaker 1: I'm with you there. Ram. So there's a possibility that
- 2:59Speaker 1: the hard may play the Rams again in the first
- 3:02Speaker 1: round if that does happen, is there anything they need
- 3:04Speaker 1: to change about their game plan? I would say they
- 3:07Speaker 1: probably should lean on the running game. That's a little
- 3:09Speaker 1: bit more the Rams. You know, coming into that game,
- 3:12Speaker 1: I think they were giving up like maybe three point
- 3:14Speaker 1: eight yards to carry, but that's close to the four yards,
- 3:16Speaker 1: and it is the three yards. So I think, you know,
- 3:19Speaker 1: leaning on the running game, whether it's keeping Chris to
- 3:21Speaker 1: that to that same number, or incorporating hide and penny
- 3:24Speaker 1: a little bit more to get the running game going.
- 3:27Speaker 1: And then and then obviously they need to show up
- 3:28Speaker 1: the pass protection. They got beat. At least the first
- 3:32Speaker 1: three sacks for the Rams came off of line twist
- 3:35Speaker 1: and and it was just not a matter of them
- 3:37Speaker 1: being really good at it. It was the Seahawks really
- 3:40Speaker 1: been their technique about it wasn't very good. And so
- 3:43Speaker 1: I think if they tighten that up, they can help
- 3:45Speaker 1: themselves out. Uh. And then and then there was a
- 3:48Speaker 1: couple of times where they the Rams schemed Aaron Donald
- 3:51Speaker 1: to be one on one against the rookie or against
- 3:54Speaker 1: Simmons who's a part time starter. So they won some
- 3:57Speaker 1: of those matches. But I think if they are a
- 3:59Speaker 1: little bit more physical the run game, and then I
- 4:01Speaker 1: would approach the passion game the same way they did.
- 4:03Speaker 1: They threw some body blows and then they sew a
- 4:06Speaker 1: couple of deep balls. They connected with demo and I
- 4:08Speaker 1: think that's the way to go about it against this
- 4:10Speaker 1: particular team. Yeah, I'm with you. I really liked the
- 4:14Speaker 1: patience of the offense. Yes, Russell Wilson was sacked five times,
- 4:18Speaker 1: but it never felt like they were forcing anything. I
- 4:21Speaker 1: feel like they're really patient. So yeah, body blows and
- 4:24Speaker 1: then Boone go for that chin, make them drop. Let's
- 4:27Speaker 1: talk about this defense, man. We talked about this defense
- 4:30Speaker 1: first five weeks, Ray worst defensive history. Everybody fire Kid Norton,
- 4:35Speaker 1: What are we doing now? This defense is one of
- 4:38Speaker 1: the best in the league. Has this been the biggest
- 4:40Speaker 1: turnaround you've ever seen? Absolutely? I mean every week we
- 4:43Speaker 1: were trying to just I remember Paul Moria was just
- 4:46Speaker 1: trying to figure out how to get them from Ben
- 4:47Speaker 1: d last football, the last defense, you know, in the league.
- 4:50Speaker 1: And so it was like, we can get to thirty,
- 4:52Speaker 1: We'll be all right, people leave it alone. And they've
- 4:54Speaker 1: really elevated past And I said this last night too,
- 4:57Speaker 1: and we said it before. So when they had that
- 4:59Speaker 1: account of ability meetings and you know, Mike, we've played
- 5:02Speaker 1: a lot of football from high school, college in NFL.
- 5:04Speaker 1: There's a lot of meetings like that that go on,
- 5:06Speaker 1: and a lot of times they add up to nothing.
- 5:08Speaker 1: And but this one you can hear it in all
- 5:11Speaker 1: the press, the postgame press conferences. All the defensive defensive
- 5:16Speaker 1: players talk about it, and they talk about the outcomes
- 5:18Speaker 1: of it, and they talk about the things that go
- 5:20Speaker 1: on in it and the and the trust that it creates,
- 5:23Speaker 1: and you know, like, I know, it's easy to play
- 5:26Speaker 1: where you can trust if you're a receiver, you know
- 5:28Speaker 1: you can trust a quarterback and put the ball where
- 5:30Speaker 1: it's supposed to be. You're gonna run, You're gonna be
- 5:32Speaker 1: running free. If you're the quarterback, you know the receiver's
- 5:34Speaker 1: gonna be where it's supposed to be. You're gonna let
- 5:36Speaker 1: the ball fly. And so it's just it's the same
- 5:39Speaker 1: thing with this defense. They all talk about, Hey, I
- 5:42Speaker 1: know I can do my job at the best that
- 5:44Speaker 1: I can with the full speed because I know the
- 5:46Speaker 1: dude beside me it's going to be doing the same thing.
- 5:48Speaker 1: And that says a lot. And I think that that
- 5:50Speaker 1: may be why this defense really made the jump, Because
- 5:54Speaker 1: if you're the one dude, they ain't getting a job done,
- 5:56Speaker 1: it's gonna stand out like a sore thumb. And so
- 5:58Speaker 1: everybody's holding them so uh to that accountability standard. And
- 6:03Speaker 1: then they're also trusting each other. Yeah, no, no one
- 6:06Speaker 1: wants to be that guy to go. Well, so, now,
- 6:10Speaker 1: where where does this team go from here? Right? What
- 6:12Speaker 1: is the true potential of this team as they get
- 6:15Speaker 1: ready for the playoffs? You know, I think if the
- 6:17Speaker 1: defense just keeps playing like the defense plays. Uh. You know,
- 6:21Speaker 1: they've done a really good job all season long. Even
- 6:23Speaker 1: when they're at the bottom of the barrel, they were
- 6:25Speaker 1: still closers. You know that the very first game of
- 6:27Speaker 1: the season, you know, they shut out they made a
- 6:30Speaker 1: goal line stop, you know, and they've done that all
- 6:32Speaker 1: year long. It's the watching football team. They came up
- 6:34Speaker 1: with two sacks at the end of the game. You know,
- 6:36Speaker 1: in this game, they came up with the big first
- 6:38Speaker 1: and inches on the goal line and they came up
- 6:41Speaker 1: with four stops. And so that part of that game
- 6:43Speaker 1: has always been there all year. It's just all that
- 6:46Speaker 1: between the forty stuff that has gotten better, and so
- 6:48Speaker 1: they just can maintain that. And then with the offense,
- 6:52Speaker 1: I really feel that that uh, that Russell's going to
- 6:55Speaker 1: break out of this. I don't want to call it
- 6:57Speaker 1: the flump. It's to been a more conservative play calling
- 7:00Speaker 1: an offense. But I think we're going to get back
- 7:02Speaker 1: to more dynamics throwing the ball, and it's going to
- 7:04Speaker 1: open up the offense even more because the run game
- 7:07Speaker 1: has been solid all year long when they when they've
- 7:09Speaker 1: turned to it, and so it's about time now to
- 7:12Speaker 1: kind of unleash a little bit more of the passing
- 7:14Speaker 1: game and be a little bit more explosive in the playoffs.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Is the super Bowl or bust at this point? Big Ray?
- 7:20Speaker 1: You know what we talked about that last week when
- 7:22Speaker 1: we're talking about, you know, is it failure or disappointment?
- 7:25Speaker 1: And I think, uh, just looking at some of the
- 7:28Speaker 1: teams they have to play and the opportunities that how
- 7:31Speaker 1: they match up with the other teams he had as
- 7:32Speaker 1: tough teams like you know, have to he had to
- 7:34Speaker 1: go through Green Bay or or or New Orleans or whatever.
- 7:38Speaker 1: But I feel like we can. We can with the
- 7:40Speaker 1: way the defense is planning and the weapons we have
- 7:42Speaker 1: on offense, we have a chance to win any game.
- 7:44Speaker 1: And so for me, I've changed my opinion from from
- 7:48Speaker 1: a failure or disappointment to like, Yeah, I want to
- 7:50Speaker 1: see them get to the super Bowl. It would be
- 7:52Speaker 1: a failure if they don't. To me, all right, you
- 7:55Speaker 1: heard it. Here we go on to Tampa. Let's get
- 7:58Speaker 1: ready for this run right now, Big Ray, appreciate your time.
- 8:02Speaker 1: All right, brother, all right, all right, well let's get
- 8:06Speaker 1: right in to it. Let's bring getting nasid Choby, and
- 8:08Speaker 1: let's talk about what had happened. See what had happened
- 8:11Speaker 1: at first, what had happened was I'm hard. Got is good.
- 8:19Speaker 1: God is good. You know, I don't want to be
- 8:21Speaker 1: too happy because I don't want people to say, you know,
- 8:23Speaker 1: he's dramatical. He hasn't been there before. You damn right,
- 8:26Speaker 1: I haven't been there before, so damn it. It feels good.
- 8:29Speaker 1: It feels great Godly. We came out victorious, and man,
- 8:33Speaker 1: what a what a hard fought battle. You heard the
- 8:36Speaker 1: man bumped. It feels good. Division champs, first time. She's
- 8:41Speaker 1: twenty sixteen. Let's go. I feel he Jamal, I'm so
- 8:45Speaker 1: fired up this morning. It feels good. People in Seattle.
- 8:48Speaker 1: We've won a lot of football games out here, so
- 8:50Speaker 1: we take things for granted. Never taking a vision title
- 8:53Speaker 1: for granted, never take going to the playoffs for granted. Uh,
- 8:56Speaker 1: it's so I'm so hyped this morning, man. I mean,
- 8:59Speaker 1: we handle business like we're supposed to. Capsule another division title.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Twenty sixteen feels like centuries ago. We had to hang
- 9:06Speaker 1: another banner in louman Field and at the vMac. And
- 9:09Speaker 1: I love it, man, because the Seahawks have everything they
- 9:11Speaker 1: want in front of him. They're for sure gonna host
- 9:13Speaker 1: a playoff game next week, and they sell have an
- 9:16Speaker 1: outside chance of being the three seed or two seed,
- 9:19Speaker 1: one seed. So it feels good, Bump, it feels good.
- 9:23Speaker 1: It feels good, and I just like the way they
- 9:25Speaker 1: did it. Man. They did not allow the Rams into
- 9:27Speaker 1: the end zone. Golf only through for two hundred and
- 9:30Speaker 1: thirty four yards, one interception, and they just got after man.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Then they really handled the play action boot. I was
- 9:37Speaker 1: really happy with how they handled that because that's what
- 9:39Speaker 1: the Rams want to do. They want to run you
- 9:41Speaker 1: play action boot. Put the linebackers in a bum. Those
- 9:44Speaker 1: LB's played well in the past game. That second level
- 9:46Speaker 1: is always compromisible when it comes to the boot. They
- 9:49Speaker 1: handled that. They made this Rams team a very good
- 9:52Speaker 1: Rams team, good offense, good defense, look like an ok team.
- 9:56Speaker 1: And this is coming from a defense that was on
- 9:58Speaker 1: pace to be the worst defense of all time. Of
- 10:03Speaker 1: all time, NFL has been around for very long time,
- 10:04Speaker 1: but all the time, so the turnaround is crazy. They
- 10:07Speaker 1: dominated a good football team. They got some style points
- 10:10Speaker 1: on this one. I know we talk about all style
- 10:11Speaker 1: points don't matter, but when they present themselves, I'll take it.
- 10:15Speaker 1: They got some style points this week. Well, no question
- 10:17Speaker 1: about it, because every last month and a half people
- 10:19Speaker 1: been talking about, oh, well, they did it against the Jets,
- 10:22Speaker 1: they did it against the Giants, they did it against
- 10:24Speaker 1: this team. Well, no, the Rams. You know, for as
- 10:28Speaker 1: good as they can be with potential, they have good
- 10:30Speaker 1: football players and that was a great team defense of effort.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Even before GoF got hurt, we shut them down. We
- 10:36Speaker 1: didn't allow them to do anything that they wanted to do.
- 10:38Speaker 1: And this is speaks out good this defense has. Everyone
- 10:40Speaker 1: wanted to fire Norton, everyone wanted to blow this stuff up,
- 10:43Speaker 1: but the Seahawks had faith. And you heard Jamal talk
- 10:46Speaker 1: about it. He said, I think we have the best
- 10:47Speaker 1: defense in the NFL. I love that confidence because it
- 10:51Speaker 1: doesn't you know, at the end of the day, stats
- 10:53Speaker 1: are great, but they don't matter. It matters about how
- 10:55Speaker 1: you're playing at the end of the year and when
- 10:57Speaker 1: you play teams. And right now the Seahawks defense is
- 10:59Speaker 1: playing great football. Rams only scored nine points. Jared Goff,
- 11:04Speaker 1: we finally made him look like Jared Goff okay through
- 11:06Speaker 1: for two and thirty four yards, no touchdowns through a
- 11:09Speaker 1: pick and God help me have no clue what the
- 11:13Speaker 1: decision making us on that play. Even Quandre's postcame prest
- 11:16Speaker 1: conference is like, you tell me I was sold. When
- 11:20Speaker 1: I was in a high school quarterback you never thought
- 11:22Speaker 1: about laid across the middle, and Quandre Dix was the
- 11:25Speaker 1: only person who could have caught that football. So it
- 11:27Speaker 1: was good to see though, you know, because Goff has
- 11:30Speaker 1: had a lot of success to them, the Seahawks, and
- 11:31Speaker 1: it was good to see them come out there and
- 11:33Speaker 1: do exactly what they're supposed to do, what we expected
- 11:35Speaker 1: them to do. And now we're division champs, Division chaps.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I like how they use DK too. DK early in
- 11:42Speaker 1: the game was in the slot. Now the Rams arazone team,
- 11:45Speaker 1: so we're looking at that matchup. Oh Ramsey verse DK,
- 11:48Speaker 1: We'll see what happened. So when it presented himself I
- 11:50Speaker 1: think DK did okay. I believe he had two catches
- 11:52Speaker 1: against Ramsey, but for the most part, they were moving
- 11:54Speaker 1: DK around, start him in the slot, and motioned him
- 11:56Speaker 1: to this side. They're trying to get matchups, and that
- 11:58Speaker 1: just shows the evolution and DK and that Shoddy really
- 12:02Speaker 1: had a plan and say, look, we're not gonna feed
- 12:04Speaker 1: into this number one receiver versus number one corner. Let's
- 12:07Speaker 1: see what happens if it happens to line him that way,
- 12:09Speaker 1: lines up that way, but we're gonna play an hour
- 12:11Speaker 1: style of football. Move this man around and get him
- 12:14Speaker 1: the ball in different areas of the field. So I
- 12:16Speaker 1: really like that. And then Chris Carson nineteen touches seventy
- 12:19Speaker 1: nine yards. I mean, this guy does a dirty work.
- 12:22Speaker 1: He gets to two or three yards, He's falling forward.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Every time a man tries to tackle him. It looks violent.
- 12:27Speaker 1: It looked like it hurts. And that's what I like
- 12:30Speaker 1: from Carson. He wears you down. If you are going
- 12:33Speaker 1: to tackle thirty two, you better hit him low because
- 12:35Speaker 1: if you hit him high, you're gonna be sore in
- 12:36Speaker 1: the morning, Oh, no question about it. If you're if
- 12:38Speaker 1: you're a defensive back, linebacker and Chris Carson gets his
- 12:41Speaker 1: shoulders square and he's coming towards you. That is a
- 12:44Speaker 1: bad place to be, man, You're looking around, anyone can
- 12:48Speaker 1: Help's he gonna jump over me, He's gonna run me over?
- 12:50Speaker 1: What's he gonna do? And yes, I would love Chris
- 12:53Speaker 1: Carson get a couple more carries. But I love how
- 12:55Speaker 1: they're playing because everything flowed together. And what I also
- 12:57Speaker 1: love is David Moore. That huge catch by David Moore
- 13:00Speaker 1: deemotors to make that catch. I mean that jump started
- 13:02Speaker 1: the game offensively. Up until that point, they hadn't done anything.
- 13:05Speaker 1: It was a third down. They get a large scoring drive,
- 13:08Speaker 1: and it just shows that everyone on this team can
- 13:10Speaker 1: step up when they're called upon. Box score wasn't pretty,
- 13:13Speaker 1: but it was the exact drag him out, grind it out,
- 13:16Speaker 1: knock him out up box l knock him out type game.
- 13:19Speaker 1: So I love what I saw, and like I said,
- 13:21Speaker 1: Division champs, And now we gotta take on those forty
- 13:23Speaker 1: nine ers and let's see what happens. Alright, Division champs.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Let's talk about these playmakers, playmakers, all right? Russell Wilson
- 13:42Speaker 1: Playmaker twenty for thirty two twenty twenty five yards, one touchdown,
- 13:46Speaker 1: three carries for nine yards and a touchdown. What I
- 13:50Speaker 1: liked about Russell Wilson. Yes, he was sacked five times. Yes,
- 13:53Speaker 1: you could say they started off slow. There was a
- 13:56Speaker 1: three now to start the game. They won on the
- 13:57Speaker 1: five play drive for twelve yards. Wasn't pretty to start,
- 14:01Speaker 1: but he wasn't forcing it. He goes, look, if we
- 14:03Speaker 1: got to grind this thing out, if we have to
- 14:05Speaker 1: control the tempo and slow it down and give him
- 14:09Speaker 1: a slow death, That's exactly what I'm gonna do. And
- 14:12Speaker 1: I like that. Best championship football. Guys who want to
- 14:16Speaker 1: be Brett Farve gun slingers tossing that thing without a care.
- 14:20Speaker 1: That's how you lose ball games. Russell was responsible. He
- 14:23Speaker 1: might have missed a couple guys here and there when
- 14:25Speaker 1: it comes to throws, or maybe not seeing him down
- 14:27Speaker 1: the field, but I never felt like he was out
- 14:29Speaker 1: of control. I always felt like when it came down
- 14:32Speaker 1: to it, he was gonna make a play to win
- 14:34Speaker 1: a ball game, no question about it. And you mentioned
- 14:36Speaker 1: it when you talked to Pete this morning, when he
- 14:38Speaker 1: spoke to Aaron Andrews at halftime, and how communo is
- 14:40Speaker 1: in confident he was, and then you'll come on the
- 14:42Speaker 1: other side Sean McVeigh wasn't feeling that way. But you guys,
- 14:44Speaker 1: remember it was a six sixth ball game. So that
- 14:46Speaker 1: just goes to show you the faith that he had
- 14:49Speaker 1: number three in the faith that McVeigh had in number sixteen.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Because you look late in the game, it's third and
- 14:55Speaker 1: long and they say it's hand this ball off once
- 14:56Speaker 1: to kick a field goals to get some points on
- 14:58Speaker 1: the part because earlier in the game they thought they
- 15:00Speaker 1: were gonna have some points. And Golf does a pick
- 15:03Speaker 1: earlier in the game, they have a first down, Golf
- 15:05Speaker 1: slides a yard short. So Pete has confidence in Russell
- 15:08Speaker 1: and all of this too. Obviously, we've watched him for
- 15:10Speaker 1: a long time and he just makes the plays he
- 15:13Speaker 1: needs to make. Even on that scramble, he's looking for
- 15:15Speaker 1: everything that's open. It's not there, not there, last second
- 15:17Speaker 1: to size running for a touchdown. So love to see
- 15:20Speaker 1: Russ balling out And I love it because he showed
- 15:22Speaker 1: the like, you know what, I don't care about the
- 15:24Speaker 1: gaudy numbers or the MVP or any of that. I
- 15:26Speaker 1: care about winning. That's all he's ever done. Is winning Seattle,
- 15:29Speaker 1: so I love to see it. Next guy, though, Chris Carson.
- 15:32Speaker 1: We talked about him. Sixteen gary sixty nine yards, three
- 15:34Speaker 1: catches for ten yards, and Carson is just that dude
- 15:38Speaker 1: where if you talk about a boxing match, just body
- 15:41Speaker 1: blows man, just to the body, to the body, where
- 15:43Speaker 1: you're down, where you're down, where you're down, and around
- 15:45Speaker 1: ten you don't want to come out out of your
- 15:47Speaker 1: corner anymore. You're tired of getting hit. You're tired of
- 15:50Speaker 1: getting hit in the gut, you're tired of getting uppercutted.
- 15:51Speaker 1: So that's what Chris Carson did, and I love to
- 15:53Speaker 1: see the physical nature. And he's gonna be so important
- 15:55Speaker 1: to us down the stretch because last year, this time
- 15:58Speaker 1: he got hurt and God loved that Marshawn came back
- 16:01Speaker 1: and it was a great reunion and all that. But
- 16:03Speaker 1: we need thirty two and we missed him last year
- 16:06Speaker 1: and I love that he's back and this year it's
- 16:07Speaker 1: gonna be different. Storry, you need thirty two to finish
- 16:11Speaker 1: this run. Next playmaker dk metc have had six reception
- 16:14Speaker 1: fifty nine yards, no touchdowns, but he is a couple
- 16:16Speaker 1: of yards away from breaking Steve Largen's career record. Now
- 16:21Speaker 1: you can look at this game and say, oh, DK
- 16:23Speaker 1: had an off game. Now, man, DK, I feel like
- 16:25Speaker 1: that exactly what was required to win this football game.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Went across the middle, made a couple of tough catches,
- 16:30Speaker 1: and just held the defense accountable. What people don't realize
- 16:34Speaker 1: is when he runs a goal, he's taking two or
- 16:36Speaker 1: three defenders with him. When he runs across the middle.
- 16:39Speaker 1: These linebackers are filling them and passing them off, and
- 16:41Speaker 1: they're concerned about him. So if he doesn't put up
- 16:43Speaker 1: the big numbers, if he doesn't go for a hundred
- 16:45Speaker 1: yards and a couple of touchdowns, he's opening things up
- 16:48Speaker 1: for other people. And we knew going in. At least
- 16:50Speaker 1: I felt like going into this game, it wasn't gonna
- 16:52Speaker 1: be a blowout. No one was gonna put up thirty
- 16:54Speaker 1: five forty points. Both defenses have been playing well, and
- 16:58Speaker 1: both offenses have guys who can make plays, but it
- 17:00Speaker 1: was gonna be a grinded out game. And you look
- 17:02Speaker 1: at DK stats, that's what you see six for fifty nine,
- 17:05Speaker 1: a grinded out game. And he still has an opportunity
- 17:08Speaker 1: to break Steve largest record, which I would assume will
- 17:11Speaker 1: he'll get that done against the forty nine ers With
- 17:13Speaker 1: that question, I'm hoping it's done in the first pass.
- 17:15Speaker 1: But like you mentioned, he takes so much attention away
- 17:17Speaker 1: because you have whether it's a flat defender or a linebacker,
- 17:20Speaker 1: he's worried about getting hands on DK if he's in
- 17:21Speaker 1: the slot, DC's outside, the safety's worried about getting over
- 17:24Speaker 1: the top. So everything he does, even if he's used
- 17:27Speaker 1: a decoy, he's running people off and he's helping get
- 17:29Speaker 1: other guys open. So love to see that from DK
- 17:32Speaker 1: and man, honestly, you want to talk about who won
- 17:34Speaker 1: the game, it's that Seahawks defense didn't give up a touchdown.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Cooper Cup only sixty six yards, Reynolds sixty five, Robert
- 17:41Speaker 1: Woods forty eight. Those are some dudes over there and
- 17:44Speaker 1: they didn't do anything. Jaron read two sacks. I'll rob
- 17:46Speaker 1: someone the sacked, Jordan Brooks state tackles, Jamal Adams state tackles.
- 17:50Speaker 1: I mean, everyone on this defense was balling out, and
- 17:53Speaker 1: I just love that. Forever. We're not ever gonna talk
- 17:57Speaker 1: about this is the worst defense in the history the NFL.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Blah blah blah. Put that to bad freezing cold takes done. Okay,
- 18:03Speaker 1: don we want to hear about it. This is one
- 18:05Speaker 1: of the better defenses in the league and they're playing
- 18:07Speaker 1: like it. So they're the key to victory on Sunday,
- 18:09Speaker 1: no question about it. Yep, that Seahawks defense stepped up.
- 18:12Speaker 1: You got guys like DJ Reid who had eight tackles.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Diggs has six tackles and an interception. An interception that
- 18:19Speaker 1: only he was gonna catch. No one else was a round.
- 18:21Speaker 1: There was no Rams jersey hanging out there. Golf has
- 18:24Speaker 1: made a mistake and Diggs will make you pay. kJ
- 18:27Speaker 1: has seven tackles, two passes defended, and then that a
- 18:30Speaker 1: goal line stand. There's something about this defense on the
- 18:33Speaker 1: goal line. It's almost like they love that situation. They're
- 18:36Speaker 1: they're eager to be in that situation. And you hear
- 18:38Speaker 1: Pete Carroll Talkie goes, Look, we've been been preparing all
- 18:42Speaker 1: year for this game, not specifically this game gets the Rams,
- 18:45Speaker 1: but this championship game. Our mentality, the way we practice,
- 18:49Speaker 1: the way we prepare gets our players ready for this moment,
- 18:53Speaker 1: and no one's afraid of the moment. We played with
- 18:56Speaker 1: guys who don't want the rock in the fourth quarter
- 18:57Speaker 1: who don't want to be on the field. Who's tapping out?
- 18:59Speaker 1: All Mihammy heard something. You know, some guys just tap
- 19:02Speaker 1: out this defense. Whether it be a veteran, a rookie,
- 19:06Speaker 1: or a guy who's a third or second year in
- 19:08Speaker 1: the league, they all step up and it's fun to
- 19:10Speaker 1: feel like when there is three blades of grass to defend,
- 19:15Speaker 1: the Hawks put themselves in great position to do exactly that.
- 19:19Speaker 1: All right, let's look at these receivers. A receiver round up.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Not a super impressive day when it comes to numbers,
- 19:25Speaker 1: but the receiver's got done. DK had six for fifty nine.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Demo had one for forty five, the biggest catch in
- 19:31Speaker 1: the game other than Hollister's touchdown. Hollister had two for
- 19:34Speaker 1: seventeen in the game winning touchdown. Are the nail in
- 19:37Speaker 1: the Coffin touchdown Tyler Lockett at three for forty four,
- 19:40Speaker 1: Carlos had one for eighteen this league three for seventeen,
- 19:43Speaker 1: Olsen one for fifteen, Carson three for tim The three
- 19:47Speaker 1: tight ends got receptions this game. I think we were
- 19:49Speaker 1: asking a couple of weeks ago that we'd like to
- 19:51Speaker 1: see the tight ends get more involved. That's exactly what
- 19:53Speaker 1: we saw, especially with Jacob Hollister selling the game with
- 19:58Speaker 1: his touchdown. And speaking of Jacob Hollister siming the game
- 20:01Speaker 1: with this touchdown, we're going to the coach's corner, and
- 20:03Speaker 1: that's exactly the play. We're gonna break down. Russ with
- 20:06Speaker 1: a shotgun snap Loo Town lays it up on the top. Hollier,
- 20:09Speaker 1: he gotta cut down Shaye Hawks. I think everybody on
- 20:15Speaker 1: the rams was looking for a short run and here
- 20:18Speaker 1: it comes. Russ going for the throat and he finds
- 20:21Speaker 1: Hollister in the back corner up the ends off for six.
- 20:25Speaker 1: The sayhof stretch their lead and they are two minutes
- 20:29Speaker 1: and fifty one seconds away from being NFC West Champs.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Bump as a play caller, talk to me about this
- 20:36Speaker 1: route because this is one of the best things you'll
- 20:37Speaker 1: see out there. It was just you want to talk
- 20:39Speaker 1: about poetry. Pete mentioned it on this touchdown for Jacob Hollister.
- 20:43Speaker 1: But tell me through this route, how does Jake Hollister
- 20:45Speaker 1: get as open as he did and how do they
- 20:46Speaker 1: execute this play? Man? This is beautiful. It's third and five.
- 20:50Speaker 1: They're in a two by two formation. You gotta lock
- 20:53Speaker 1: it in DK up top. You guys swaying Hollister down
- 20:55Speaker 1: at the bottom. They gotta go to DK and Locker right,
- 20:58Speaker 1: they gotta go DK lock it No, Pete Carol says, look,
- 21:01Speaker 1: we saw the matchup that we want to see man defense.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Swayne is on the outside, Hollister is inside. Now Pee said,
- 21:07Speaker 1: it wasn't a pickplay, Bump. You know, we just have
- 21:10Speaker 1: to They just crossed each other. We know what you're
- 21:12Speaker 1: trying to accomplish here. It is a pick play. You
- 21:13Speaker 1: just can't call the pickplay because NFL is always listening.
- 21:16Speaker 1: So rip Freddy Sway does. He attacks the defender over
- 21:20Speaker 1: a Hollister right, and he doesn't step in front of him,
- 21:23Speaker 1: He doesn't get any contact with him, but he gets
- 21:26Speaker 1: in his lane just enough to where he has to
- 21:29Speaker 1: go underneath him and try to get over the top
- 21:31Speaker 1: of Hollistrip. At that point it's a rap. Hallister does
- 21:34Speaker 1: a great job of being patient and allowing Freddy swayin
- 21:37Speaker 1: to work for him. He knows, look, if I can
- 21:39Speaker 1: allow Freddie to get over the top of me, I
- 21:41Speaker 1: give a little wiggle boom, I'm gonna get outside. And
- 21:44Speaker 1: at that point you don't even have to be fast.
- 21:46Speaker 1: You just gotta be quick. You gets a little three
- 21:48Speaker 1: to five step burst and you're good. Russell Wilson then
- 21:50Speaker 1: just drops a dime right over his charter. He high
- 21:53Speaker 1: points it instead instead of landing drop into the bucket,
- 21:56Speaker 1: which I liked because dbs like to make plays when
- 21:59Speaker 1: you dropping in the buck beautiful throw clutch. Russell Wilson
- 22:03Speaker 1: went to the number three tight end and the number
- 22:06Speaker 1: four receivers side instead of going up top to his
- 22:09Speaker 1: playmare because that just lets you know how much trust
- 22:12Speaker 1: there is on this football team. And I love it too, because,
- 22:14Speaker 1: like you mentioned, ye had DK and tied at the
- 22:16Speaker 1: top of the screen. That's exactly where the Rams think
- 22:18Speaker 1: they're going. And Russell doesn't even look their way. And
- 22:20Speaker 1: everything's great because the other thing, too is Damian Lewis
- 22:23Speaker 1: kind of gets beat and he gets I'm pretty sure
- 22:25Speaker 1: that's Aaron Donald who beats him, and he's coming right
- 22:28Speaker 1: near Russell Wilson, and Russell just made a great throw.
- 22:31Speaker 1: He steps back, he knows the pressure is coming, and
- 22:34Speaker 1: he goes off his back foot just throws a dime
- 22:36Speaker 1: like you mentioned it, and everything about this plays is beautiful,
- 22:40Speaker 1: like you said, Freddie Swaine Jaya Pollister. It doesn't matter
- 22:42Speaker 1: if you're on the field on offense. Russell Wilson's gonna
- 22:45Speaker 1: find you. And this is third down. This is the
- 22:46Speaker 1: game's online because listen, if the Seahawks don't convert, they
- 22:50Speaker 1: kick a field ball to one score game, the Rams
- 22:51Speaker 1: are still in the ball game. So Nail and mccoffin
- 22:55Speaker 1: love to see it. Bump and the Seahawks are just
- 22:57Speaker 1: playing such good football right now, and I of it,
- 23:00Speaker 1: which brings us to a very very very very special
- 23:06Speaker 1: victory formation. Here's the best formation in football, the victory formation.
- 23:17Speaker 1: That's it. Eighteen seconds left and the Seahawks start to
- 23:20Speaker 1: head in the middle of the field. The Rams do
- 23:23Speaker 1: the same. What a game here in Looming Field today?
- 23:26Speaker 1: Two defenses help bet for leather and the Seahawks played better,
- 23:31Speaker 1: the Seahawks feeding the Rams here in Seattle to win
- 23:35Speaker 1: the NFC West title by a score of twenty to nine. Yes,
- 23:42Speaker 1: the Hawks are they champions NFC West locked it down
- 23:46Speaker 1: first time since twenty sixteen. And I love it. I
- 23:49Speaker 1: love it. I want more of it. These guys are
- 23:50Speaker 1: gonna go on a rundown. I'm feeling good about this
- 23:52Speaker 1: football team. The Hawks host the playoff game. No matter
- 23:55Speaker 1: what now, no matter what happens, the Hawks host the
- 23:58Speaker 1: playoff game. I know it doesn't mean a lot because
- 24:00Speaker 1: the fans aren't there, but it does mean a lot,
- 24:01Speaker 1: and that means you did what you're supposed to do
- 24:03Speaker 1: during the regular season to put yourself in a position
- 24:06Speaker 1: to at least be comfortable when you take the field
- 24:10Speaker 1: at Luminfield. I'm juiced, I'm ready to go, and they
- 24:13Speaker 1: still have a chance to get the number one seed.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Choby No, I love it too, because here's the thing. Man, Yes,
- 24:17Speaker 1: the fans aren't there, but to not have to put
- 24:20Speaker 1: extra travel this team handles traveling on the road, obviously,
- 24:23Speaker 1: we know that, but to not have to worry about
- 24:24Speaker 1: anything about that, to sleep at the same hotel room
- 24:27Speaker 1: you always sleep that at the High and Bellevue, get
- 24:30Speaker 1: to see your family and night before, and do all
- 24:31Speaker 1: the things. So that's huge. To host the game at
- 24:34Speaker 1: Central or excuse me, Luminfield. The Seahawks are seven and
- 24:37Speaker 1: one this year at home. They did everything they did
- 24:39Speaker 1: needed to do to host the playoff game. Defense proved
- 24:42Speaker 1: it was not a fluke. They can shut down good offenses.
- 24:45Speaker 1: They step up to the play. Love to see it.
- 24:47Speaker 1: This defense is playing in championship football and the Seahawks
- 24:50Speaker 1: the sky's the limit for them. This year offense didn't
- 24:53Speaker 1: play their greatest game, but they played a solid game.
- 24:55Speaker 1: They were better on third down. I believe they complete
- 24:57Speaker 1: a forty seven percent of the third downs and they
- 24:59Speaker 1: made big plays when big plays needed to be made.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Hollister gets redemption last year, same end zone. Little short
- 25:08Speaker 1: doesn't get in to win a division. He is the
- 25:10Speaker 1: guy who puts the Rams out with that last touchdown
- 25:13Speaker 1: with two minutes left in the game. That's fun to
- 25:16Speaker 1: see and the Seahawks get revenge on the Rams. Man,
- 25:18Speaker 1: let's be one hunting the Randoms. We're two and five
- 25:21Speaker 1: are He's gonna be the Hawks two and five against
- 25:23Speaker 1: Rams before this game since McVeagh has been there, it
- 25:26Speaker 1: has to be nice. I know, Pete Carroll, he's gonna
- 25:29Speaker 1: play take the high road and not talk anything. But
- 25:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna say for you. You got him, baby, McVay,
- 25:36Speaker 1: you got him, Pete. Let's go love it, man, this
- 25:38Speaker 1: this team is playing great football and you love to
- 25:40Speaker 1: see it at the perfect time of the year. Remember
- 25:42Speaker 1: to find complete Seahawks coverage on seventen YESPN Seattle in
- 25:45Speaker 1: the seventen Seattle app or at seven ten sports dot
- 25:48Speaker 1: com seventeen YESP and Seattle the voice of Seattle Sports.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Let's finish strongest is forty nine ers. Let's get it done.
- 25:55Speaker 1: The NFL flex a munch in games, so the Seahawks
- 25:57Speaker 1: are not going to know their destiny when they kicked
- 25:59Speaker 1: the ball off handle business against the forty nine ers.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Do what you do and we'll be at Loomingfield party
- 26:05Speaker 1: in the playoffs. Yes, sir, that's it for us to
- 26:09Speaker 1: Seahawks beat the Rams twenty to nine and they are
- 26:12Speaker 1: the NFC West Division champions. Let's keep the good times runing.
- 26:17Speaker 1: They got the forty nine ers finished strong for NASA Choby.
- 26:20Speaker 1: I'm Michael Bompcas. This is Hawk Talk. Talk to you soon.
