- 2:21SPEAKER_21: Hey, our friend Alicia is not with us tonight.
- 2:24SPEAKER_21: Uh Alicia is already at the park.

- 4:11SPEAKER_24: And uh for all the Patreons out there, uh I did put up a bonus episode just the other day.
- 4:17SPEAKER_24: Uh, you know, I've been really busy uh traveling a lot for work, so I gave you my top five list of favorite places that I have run uh while I've either been on vacation or work trips.
- 4:30SPEAKER_24: So I I exclude anything from the state of Pennsylvania and uh and obviously Walt Disney World.
- 4:35SPEAKER_24: And unfortunately, Britney, Denver did not make the top five, but it's definitely an honorable mention.
- 4:41SPEAKER_24: So thank you for the recommendation that you gave me a couple of months ago uh when I was there, and then get to see all that cool artwork uh uh along the pathway there.
- 4:49SPEAKER_24: So thank you very much.

- 5:11SPEAKER_21: Check them out, friends.
- 5:13SPEAKER_21: Hey, a real quick uh thank you to Angela.
- 5:18SPEAKER_21: I mentioned early on the podcast that I wasn't sure Becky would be joining me for the after party at Wine and Dine.
- 5:25SPEAKER_21: Well, she is now.
- 5:26SPEAKER_21: But I don't know, she may bring cookies.
- 5:29SPEAKER_21: I doubt it though.
- 5:31SPEAKER_21: Uh let's say hey, let's take a look at the training schedule.
- 5:34SPEAKER_21: Wine and Dine.
- 5:36SPEAKER_21: Yep.
- 5:36SPEAKER_21: It's it's Thursday, it's expo day.
- 5:40SPEAKER_21: So look around.
- 5:41SPEAKER_21: I'm there, Jack's there, John's there, and Alicia's there somewhere.
- 5:46SPEAKER_21: You have to look a little harder for Alicia.
- 5:48SPEAKER_21: She's kind of short.
- 5:49SPEAKER_21: I get to pick on her because she's not here tonight.
- 5:52SPEAKER_21: And uh but we are we are looking for you.
- 5:54SPEAKER_21: So we hope we see you at the expo.
- 5:56SPEAKER_21: It is race week.
- 5:58SPEAKER_21: Marathon weekend now, 11 weeks away, friends.
- 6:01SPEAKER_21: It sneaks up on us quickly.
- 6:04SPEAKER_21: We're in training week number 17.
- 6:08SPEAKER_21: It is a five-mile long run if you're doing one of the challenges or the marathon or the half five miles this weekend.
- 6:18SPEAKER_21: Friends, what do we have for training updates?
- 6:20SPEAKER_21: Britney, what's new with you?
- 6:22SPEAKER_21: How's your what are you training for these days and how are things going?
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: Okay, so I have my debut 100K on Halloween.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: So um I ran the OCC uh 50K, which was actually a 60K in France in August at UTMB weekend.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: Um, for anyone that's obviously familiar for with the trail world, um, it was okay.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: Like we could chat more about it.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: In fact, it'll probably come up in um some of the listener questions um of just perspective and everything.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: Um but uh that led into really good like jumping off spot for um I'm training for the Havelina 100K in Arizona.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: Um and everyone's like, how have you not done this?
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: Like it's like the party of the trail world and costumes.
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: And um, so I looked it up in the main page, the main picture on the front page of the website is this girl running in a tutu and a cowboy hat.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: And I was like, this is like Disney for the trail scene.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: Um, so um, that's coming up on Halloween.
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: So I'm feeling great.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: So I'm in my taper as well.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: So everyone that's running New York, I'm in like I'm in taper mode too.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: So um that's around the corner.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: And then um, I'm all done for the season.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: It's been a big year, so I'm just excited to like I started, I was like, Justin this morning was like, um, gosh, you've done like a lot of races.
- 7:46SPEAKER_02: And I was like, Well, I've only done, I guess it started at Disney this year.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: That was technically this year running the marathon.
- 7:52SPEAKER_02: So that's right.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, so I'm ready for a break uh after after Halloween down there.
- 7:58SPEAKER_21: Yeah, we all we always do that with the marathon weekend.
- 8:01SPEAKER_21: We tend to we tend to get it in the wrong year because it's so close to New Year's.
- 8:05SPEAKER_02: And you put like all the training in the previous year.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: So it's like okay, yeah.
- 8:10SPEAKER_21: Yeah, exactly.
- 8:11SPEAKER_21: How's the family?
- 8:12SPEAKER_21: How's how's you go?
- 8:13SPEAKER_21: How you go about two or three now?
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: No, he'll be two in February.
- 8:18SPEAKER_21: Two, okay.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: Um, he's the best thing in the whole world.
- 8:21SPEAKER_02: We just did bathtime.
- 8:22SPEAKER_02: Um, he counts to 10.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: Uh shocking.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: Shocking.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: He runs and runs and runs.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: He's just a little like like coat or what um energizer bunny.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: Um, he's just so fun.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: It's just, it I feel like it just keeps getting better and better.
- 8:39SPEAKER_02: He's just oh, makes us so happy.
- 8:42SPEAKER_02: It's a lot of work, but um the best thing in the whole world.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: So he's doing great.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: Um, so we're just like really enjoying him.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: We are all three gonna be down.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: Just been uh Hugo and I are all gonna be down for Marathon weekend.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: Wonderful.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: So we're uh looking forward to getting to be down there and hang out again this year.
- 9:00SPEAKER_21: Wonderful.
- 9:01SPEAKER_21: We look forward to that.
- 9:02SPEAKER_21: I remember uh it's been a long time since my children are older than you.
- 9:10SPEAKER_21: But one of the exciting things I remember about children is around two, they're speaking pretty well.
- 9:17SPEAKER_21: And mommy and daddy can understand everything, but nobody else can.
- 9:23SPEAKER_21: Mommy and daddy have to translate, and then all of a sudden, around two and a half, everybody can understand them.
- 9:30SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 9:31SPEAKER_21: It's kind of like magic.
- 9:32SPEAKER_21: Uh, Greg, you're you're more familiar, you're you're closer to it.
- 9:36SPEAKER_21: That's that's about right, isn't it?
- 9:37SPEAKER_21: The timeline.
- 9:38SPEAKER_21: No, it's very true.
- 9:38SPEAKER_21: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:39SPEAKER_24: Usually as the parent, you're you're the translator for everything.
- 9:42SPEAKER_24: 100% in public, yep.
- 9:44SPEAKER_21: Yeah, it takes a little while.
- 9:45SPEAKER_21: But it's it's a it's a lovely and wonderful and loving thing.
- 9:49SPEAKER_21: I'm glad you're happy.
- 9:50SPEAKER_21: It's great.
- 9:50SPEAKER_21: Thanks.
- 9:51SPEAKER_21: I'm sure you're having a marvelous time.
- 9:54SPEAKER_21: Uh, anything else you wanted to tell us about?
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: Um, well, we were talking before we started recording that um I'm a full suburban mom now.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: Um and so we moved to the suburbs, uh, just outside of Denver and just thriving.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: Like Hugo's doing so great living in the suburbs.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: Um, my soul is a little bit collapsing every time I pull up to our house and it's a beige house.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: So next year we're gonna be painting it.
- 10:18SPEAKER_02: Um, and then everything else will be on brand.
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, I mean, everything else is going, going great.
- 10:23SPEAKER_02: What I just had my last day.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: We uh I coach a middle school team here in Denver, and today was our last day of practice, and they really wanted for three years, they've been begging me to do a practice wearing Crocs.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: And I was like, you guys, we can't run wearing Crocs.
- 10:39SPEAKER_02: Like, come on.
- 10:40SPEAKER_02: And so they've been begging, begging, begging.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: It's the eighth graders last year.
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: So I said, okay, today will be our Crocs Day because this Friday is actual National Crocs Day.
- 10:51SPEAKER_02: So um, yep.
- 10:52SPEAKER_02: So we had everyone showed up in Crocs today.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: I got the Crocs mascot to come because they're local here in Colorado.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: Crocs is so they came today.
- 11:00SPEAKER_02: So the big like crocodile mascot came.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: Um, so it's been a busy, busy fall, especially with coaching that team and everything and my training.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: But um, that's kind of the like main things that are new.
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: That's wonderful.
- 11:15SPEAKER_24: You know, Brittany, speaking of moving out to the suburbs, I I want to commend you because you had me in stitches when you made your post about moving out to the suburbs with you and your photograph for your Costco membership holding the two hot dogs.
- 11:31SPEAKER_24: As a Costco aficionado myself, I took a lot of great joy in that.
- 11:36SPEAKER_24: So thank you for doing that to continue to bring the humor in everything that you do in life.
- 11:42SPEAKER_24: Yeah, yeah, I love it.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: I still gotta bring my flare.
- 11:48SPEAKER_02: Um, like I'm not willing to cut my hair yet.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: Um, like uh I'm gonna eat double hot dogs in my Costco membership photo.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: So thank you.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: That means a lot.
- 11:58SPEAKER_21: Good stuff.
- 12:00SPEAKER_21: All right, thank you.
- 12:01SPEAKER_21: Hey, hey gang, who wants to follow that?
- 12:03SPEAKER_21: Who else has a training update?
- 12:05SPEAKER_24: I mean, uh I'm not training for any 100Ks.
- 12:08SPEAKER_24: That that that's for damn sure.
- 12:09SPEAKER_24: But uh no, I I had my last uh quote unquote long training run for New York City in two weeks.
- 12:15SPEAKER_24: So I was doing my Yasso 800s as um as Coach Twiggs put on my schedule, and I was beyond thrilled.
- 12:25SPEAKER_24: I I was under my uh my timing for all 10 of them, and I even had so much gas in the tank that on the 10th one, I was like, you know what?
- 12:35SPEAKER_24: I'm gonna run this one as a magic half mile to see if I can maybe get a new time or at least match my previous magic half mile.
- 12:46SPEAKER_24: And I was only slower by I think five seconds or something like that.
- 12:51SPEAKER_24: Oh so it goes to show that one, I'm very happy with where my training's at, but two, the fact that if I was able to do that about nine miles into the run, it's time for a new uh magic mile.
- 13:03SPEAKER_24: So, Coach Twiggs, we'll we'll be putting that on the schedule soon, but no, I'm just beyond thrilled.
- 13:08SPEAKER_24: I'm so excited for New York coming up.
- 13:09SPEAKER_24: I mean, obviously, I'm gonna have a lot of FOMO with all of you this weekend down at Winding Dying, but I just I'm chomping at the bit to get up to the big apple.
- 13:17SPEAKER_21: Oh, that'd be great, Greg.
- 13:18SPEAKER_21: Congratulations.
- 13:20SPEAKER_21: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:21SPEAKER_21: Brittany, you haven't seen Greg for a while.
- 13:23SPEAKER_21: He has been on a weight loss journey and he looks great, and his running times are coming down.
- 13:30SPEAKER_21: He he used to uh I used to pace him.
- 13:35SPEAKER_21: He he can't run slowly enough to pace me anymore.
- 13:40SPEAKER_21: So I'm proud of him.
- 13:41SPEAKER_21: He's done very, very well.
- 13:42SPEAKER_21: Thank you.
- 13:43SPEAKER_21: Um who else has an update for us?
- 13:46SPEAKER_21: Jack, you had something, didn't you?
- 13:48unknown: No.
- 13:48SPEAKER_21: Jack, make something up.
- 13:52SPEAKER_25: I've got nothing.
- 13:53SPEAKER_25: I'm so sorry.
- 13:55SPEAKER_25: You should run 101k, Jack.
- 13:58SPEAKER_25: You know, those 100 101 something days are are past.
- 14:03SPEAKER_18: I don't know.
- 14:05SPEAKER_18: I I actually think that the is do they pronounce it javelina or javelina?
- 14:10SPEAKER_02: Javelina, yeah.
- 14:13SPEAKER_18: So I actually I knew about javelina 100ks, but I totally forgot that that would be like looking back, and I'm like, that is the perfect race for you.
- 14:23SPEAKER_18: These are gonna be like a huge party.
- 14:25SPEAKER_18: Everybody wears like these like loud buttoned-up shirts with the crazy hats and the glasses.
- 14:32SPEAKER_18: I'm like, that would be a lot of fun, but it's in the desert.
- 14:36SPEAKER_18: I don't know about that.
- 14:37SPEAKER_18: I've done a few more.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be it's gonna be warm.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: Um, so I have to add on to this, uh, it's me.
- 14:43SPEAKER_02: So I'm not just doing a costume.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: I'm of course doing three costumes.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: I'm doing costume changes every lap.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's awesome.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: And I'm not doing regular costumes, I'm doing mashups because I think it's funny.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: Um, so it's like elaborate, and I'm having to like think about like, okay, my base is my base layer is gonna be the same, and I gotta remove the tutu for this layer, and I gotta put on the skirt for this layer.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: And then the last loop, I need to be smart because it's gonna be warmer.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: So it's like a full production that I'm gonna have that for you.
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: That sounds fun.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:16SPEAKER_21: You know you got me into costume running, right?
- 15:18SPEAKER_21: I know.
- 15:19SPEAKER_02: Honestly, that's like a claim to my fame.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: Like I should put that on my resume.
- 15:24SPEAKER_21: I'm gonna disappoint this weekend.
- 15:26SPEAKER_21: I gotta tell everybody.
- 15:26SPEAKER_21: I'm I didn't.
- 15:27SPEAKER_02: What do you mean, Bob?
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: Well, you can't just put that out there and then say you're don't tell me if you're not gonna be in costume, I'm gonna be sad.
- 15:33SPEAKER_21: I'll get back to it.
- 15:34SPEAKER_21: I'm thinking maybe goofy for the 5K.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 15:38SPEAKER_21: You know, I but it's it's yeah, that's easy for me.
- 15:40SPEAKER_21: I walk around Disney World and little kids point at me and say to their mom, look, that guy's goofy.
- 15:47SPEAKER_21: So, you know, it's it's it's not much of a stretch for me to get in costume there.
- 15:51SPEAKER_21: We'll see.
- 15:52SPEAKER_21: Uh, Greg, you know, you were talking New York City.
- 15:55SPEAKER_21: Before we go into our listener questions, tell us about the meetup.
- 15:59SPEAKER_24: Absolutely, yeah.
- 15:59SPEAKER_24: So again, we're gonna be hosting this mega Run Disney meetup.
- 16:03SPEAKER_24: Again, it's not technically a Rise the Run meetup.
- 16:06SPEAKER_24: This is a meetup for the masses of anyone associated with the Run Disney community.
- 16:13SPEAKER_24: So it is going to be happening Friday, October 30th at 5:30 until roughly about 7 o'clock or so at a um an establishment called Porchlight.
- 16:23SPEAKER_24: It's about a half a mile uh on the same exact avenue as the Javit Center where the expo takes place.
- 16:30SPEAKER_24: It is free to attend, pay as you go in terms of food and drink, but we're just looking forward to getting everyone together to be able to celebrate just the accomplishment of a great training cycle and celebrate one of the greatest races in the world that I know some of us will have experienced before and you know, some for the first time.
- 16:51SPEAKER_24: So it's it's gonna be totally epic and awesome.
- 16:54SPEAKER_24: And I can't wait to see everybody there.
- 16:56SPEAKER_24: And if you can, it is pinned uh to the featured section in our um Facebook page.
- 17:01SPEAKER_24: If you could just fill out that Google form, the RSVP, just so we can get a head count in terms of how many people we think are going to be attending.
- 17:07SPEAKER_24: But yeah, looking forward to seeing everybody there.
- 17:09SPEAKER_21: Sounds great, Greg.
- 17:10SPEAKER_21: I I told you from history, I would expect that if 20 people sign up, expect 30 people to be there.
- 17:18unknown: Yeah.
- 17:18SPEAKER_21: So hopefully.
- 17:19SPEAKER_24: We're gonna see if we can break the fire code.
- 17:21SPEAKER_24: We're we're really looking forward.
- 17:23SPEAKER_21: Hope you have a great time.
- 17:24SPEAKER_21: That sounds good.
- 17:25SPEAKER_23: Caution runners, change of topic ahead.
- 17:30SPEAKER_21: Well, friends, to celebrate the fifth anniversary, we asked you to submit listener questions for us.
- 17:41SPEAKER_21: Many of you uh sent us voice messages, which is what we wanted.
- 17:45SPEAKER_21: We wanted to uh uh include as many of you on the podcast as we could, and a couple of you posted your questions in Facebook.
- 17:53SPEAKER_21: Now, we can't get to everyone, but we'll get to those as many as we can.
- 17:59SPEAKER_21: I want to start with one that's uh was on Facebook, so I'll read it here from Eric, who asks, What is one running accomplishment five years ago that you would be proud of and one non-running running accomplishment five years ago that you would have been proud of looking back today?
- 18:23SPEAKER_18: So five years ago, my proudest moment was so I was training by myself.
- 18:31SPEAKER_18: Obviously, COVID was right beforehand, or technically slightly during.
- 18:36SPEAKER_18: Um, and this was my first big race back into the scene.
- 18:44SPEAKER_18: I pretty sure it was September 2021.
- 18:47SPEAKER_18: I ran the Great Smoky Mountain Half Marathon.
- 18:50SPEAKER_18: All I wanted to do was to get under two hours, and I remember I was training so hard.
- 18:56SPEAKER_18: I was doing I I think I did more speed workouts then than I obviously do now, which is why I probably am not as fast as I used to be.
- 19:05SPEAKER_18: But I just wanted to be in front of the two-hour people, and I remember the two hour uh pacers started a little bit ahead of me, and when I caught up to them within the first mile, all I thought was, okay, I never want to see them again.
- 19:21SPEAKER_18: And um I didn't have a watch, which is why I kind of don't like wearing watches, because after this event, it kind of watches are great for a lot of things, but it can also be a great way to get into your head.
- 19:34SPEAKER_18: And if you automatically think you're not doing well, then it's just gonna eat away at you and you're gonna start believing it.
- 19:41SPEAKER_18: So that's why I don't usually wear watches.
- 19:44SPEAKER_18: And this event was a great example of why I don't, because you know, I never I didn't really look back much, and I never saw the two-hour pacers, but when I crossed the finish line, I didn't realize that I went from running, I think my fastest was like a 201 at the time, and I was able to get it down to a one hour and 52 minute and 48 second or something like that.
- 20:12SPEAKER_18: Uh half marathon.
- 20:14SPEAKER_18: I haven't ran that since, and I'm still chasing it.
- 20:17SPEAKER_18: It's just I feel like my priorities have changed a bit.
- 20:20SPEAKER_18: I keep going from ultra to not doing ultra, then doing halves, and then kind of going back and forth.
- 20:25SPEAKER_18: And I think that's probably delayed the progression of getting faster in some ways.
- 20:30SPEAKER_18: Um, at least in that distance.
- 20:32SPEAKER_18: But I'm super proud of that one.
- 20:34SPEAKER_18: That was about five years ago, and I would like to do that again if I could.
- 20:38SPEAKER_21: Is there a non-running accomplishment at uh five years ago if you were looking back on it?
- 20:44SPEAKER_18: I guess my thing is is travel.
- 20:49SPEAKER_18: I don't really think like I didn't really start traveling a whole lot until like 20 technically 2017, but really I I started going like my first time to Europe, I believe, was 20.
- 21:04SPEAKER_18: Was it 2021?
- 21:05SPEAKER_18: 2022.
- 21:06SPEAKER_18: I don't know.
- 21:07SPEAKER_18: It was when Berlin and Chicago, I did two weeks apart from each other, the marathons.
- 21:11SPEAKER_18: I don't know my years anyway.
- 21:13SPEAKER_24: That was 2021 because Jack, that was episode two.
- 21:15SPEAKER_24: That that was it.
- 21:16SPEAKER_24: Episode two was you talking about driving from Berlin to Chicago.
- 21:20SPEAKER_24: Yeah, that's right.
- 21:21SPEAKER_18: Well, there we go.
- 21:22SPEAKER_18: That that was the start of something new, something fresh.
- 21:25SPEAKER_18: And ever since then, it's like it opened my eyes to travel, and I thought that was really cool.
- 21:30SPEAKER_18: And now there's like so many places I want to visit now, and then just not enough time in one's life to visit every place.
- 21:39SPEAKER_21: Okay, very cool.
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: I read it as like what would the five years ago you be proud of you for today?
- 21:46SPEAKER_21: That's the way I read it too.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: Um, and congratulations, that's huge.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: And I think not wearing a watch, also you probably would have run.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: If you had worn your watch, I bet you would have run like a 158 or a 159.
- 21:56SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: You know, like I think taking the watch away helps you.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Break the ceiling of what you actually think is possible.
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: Cause you probably would have shied away from the time that you ran, like eight minutes faster than that is huge.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: So I think like that's a big thing for people, maybe this weekend too, is like the watch watch can only tell you so much.
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: And if it's you you might be a lot faster than you think.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: Um my uh so I'll just uh my five year ago self had just signed with North Face, which I felt like I did not belong on North Face because I was like, I'm like a not outdoorsy gal.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: Like I just started getting on the trails.
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: Um, but I think the five year ago now, five years ago, me would be really proud that I've like really embraced the trail scene.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: Like I hadn't even run dopey yet, but I think I'm just really proud looking back at these past five years and thinking, wow, I've done it my way.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: You know, like Dopey was such a big thing for me that it was like, oh, I can do I can do all this my way.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: And I there's like this whole world of people that get it also.
- 23:02SPEAKER_02: Um, and now bringing it to the trails as well, and like my costumes coming up is something I'm really, really proud of that I think my five years ago, I think I might have been a little bit afraid to do.
- 23:13SPEAKER_02: And yeah, and non-related, I mean it's Hugo.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: Like that's a no-brainer.
- 23:19SPEAKER_21: That's perfect.
- 23:20SPEAKER_21: Yeah, that's perfect.
- 23:22SPEAKER_21: I I can take a bite out of this one.
- 23:24SPEAKER_21: My five years looking forward, I'm proud that I'm still running.
- 23:29SPEAKER_21: Uh, in the in the last five years, I've had uh uh surgery on Achilles tendon, knee replacement, surgery on my spine, and spent three months rehabbing a torn hamstring.
- 23:39SPEAKER_21: So and at my age, I'm just proud that I'm still out there.
- 23:43SPEAKER_21: Not very fast, but still out there.
- 23:46SPEAKER_21: The non-running thing, well, I'll comment on that at the end of the episode, but it's this podcast.
- 23:52SPEAKER_21: That's the thing I'm proud of.
- 23:53SPEAKER_04: I I and I say basically the same thing, Bob.
- 23:56SPEAKER_04: The one thing I'm proud of accomplishing five years ago, who to know the community that we built.
- 24:02SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 24:03SPEAKER_21: Yeah, we'll we'll address that again at the end of the episode.
- 24:07SPEAKER_21: Our next question comes from Michael, our as you may know him, Ron Disnerd.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: Happy fifth anniversary to the entire Ryzen Run gang.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: Five years is quite the accomplishment.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: Time really does fly when you're on the run.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: Uh sorry about the dad joke.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: So my question is: will there ever be a full probe into the whole Nacho Gate incident with Team Will Run 4?
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: People really want some answers here.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: Again, thanks guys for being the voice of the long runs.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: Take care, and we'll see you in another five years.
- 24:35SPEAKER_24: All right, Michael, I I know you split your allegiances very loyally between Rise and Run and Will Run 4.
- 24:42SPEAKER_24: So you you're kind of like Switzerland in this type of situation.
- 24:47SPEAKER_24: But here's the way I look at it is that no probe or no full investigation needs to go into Nacho Gate.
- 24:55SPEAKER_24: Because the way I look at it, the Will Run 4 crew has been willing to come back for two other Family Feud or Podcast Family Feud episodes.
- 25:05SPEAKER_24: If they really wanted to protest and they had that much of an issue with it, I don't think they would have accepted the invitations that they did the last two years.
- 25:16SPEAKER_24: So just based on that principle alone, no, there will no longer be any full probe or investigation into Nacho Gate.
- 25:25SPEAKER_21: I don't know.
- 25:26SPEAKER_21: I don't know, Greg.
- 25:26SPEAKER_21: If the Democrats take cult control of Congress, uh who knows?
- 25:32SPEAKER_04: Run Disnerd.
- 25:33SPEAKER_04: I got a dead joke for you.
- 25:35SPEAKER_04: We did run a probe, but the cheese invoked its right to stay artificial.
- 25:44SPEAKER_21: Moving right along, let's hear from uh our friend Michelle.
- 25:48SPEAKER_06: Hey, Rise and Run podcasters, congratulations on reaching five years.
- 25:53SPEAKER_06: That's so awesome.
- 25:54SPEAKER_06: Makes my Thursdays just so happy.
- 25:57SPEAKER_06: Um, I would like to shoot a little question for you guys.
- 25:59SPEAKER_06: If you we all know that the balloon ladies are the sweetest people in the entire world, but if a Disney villain were to join the balloon ladies, which Disney villain do you think would make the best balloon lady and why?
- 26:13SPEAKER_06: Happy running, everyone.
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: Okay, I thought about this one.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: Um everyone's gonna be upset at me on this because I don't remember her name.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: What's the mom's name from Tangled?
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: Oh, Mother Gothel.
- 26:26SPEAKER_02: Okay, yes, Mother Gothel.
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: So I thought she might be good because I don't like the like, I'm not gonna be motivated if you're being really yelly and aggressive.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: But Mother Gossel's Mother Gothel's quite passive aggressive.
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: So I feel like she would be a good balloon lady because she'd kind of like you're getting kind of chubby and she'd be like you're getting kind of slow.
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: Um, so like I feel like she might be like joyfully um motivating in a an aggressive way.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: So she's who I thought of uh might be a good one.
- 27:02SPEAKER_21: Beautiful.
- 27:03SPEAKER_18: I would think Hook because he has his sword and you don't want to be poked in the butt with the sword, you know, like you know, like he's coming after you, so you better run away.
- 27:14SPEAKER_24: In fairness, Jack, though, Captain Hook wouldn't work because what happens if the hook accidentally pops one of the balloons and now and now you have a race logistics nightmare on your hand.
- 27:25SPEAKER_18: No, no, here's what happens it's his fault, so now everybody can finish.
- 27:30SPEAKER_24: Okay, all right.
- 27:32SPEAKER_24: I like that perspective.
- 27:32SPEAKER_21: She's thought this through, Greg.
- 27:34SPEAKER_21: All right, okay.
- 27:36SPEAKER_24: For for me, I I had two come to mind.
- 27:39SPEAKER_24: The first, because of um balloons, I'm gonna go Charles Munz from up.
- 27:44SPEAKER_18: Okay, so I was almost going in that direction, but I was like, no, is it a villain?
- 27:48SPEAKER_18: Is it not a villain?
- 27:49SPEAKER_18: Yeah, I thought that too.
- 27:50SPEAKER_24: Yeah, so I mean, just because you know, obviously balloons play such a huge role in that movie, you know, just just you know, by osmosis having him in there.
- 27:59SPEAKER_24: I would want Ursula.
- 28:01SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay, tell me why I thought about her too, but why?
- 28:05SPEAKER_24: I I think she she could be sassy yet persuasive and motivational in a weird, weird sort of way.
- 28:14SPEAKER_24: So, you know, obviously, you know, she did a great job in convincing Ariel to to give up her voice.
- 28:19SPEAKER_24: So, you know, maybe she could give out advice to you know to help our friends who are are doing amazing, amazing things in the back of the pack.
- 28:26SPEAKER_24: But then also the visual came into my head of the Ursula that's like part of like the Mickey's Not So Scary parade, just like rolling around and like doing turns and stuff, and I could just see Ursula doing that for 26 miles, and I think it would be fabulous.
- 28:41SPEAKER_04: So mine, I went with my favorite Disney movie, which did not win, unfortunately, which Monstro, the giant whale from Pinocchio, because it chases Pinocchio and Geppetto all throughout the movie.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: Okay, I like that.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's a strategic choice.
- 28:56SPEAKER_04: But what water around.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's what I was gonna say.
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: What can it do?
- 29:00SPEAKER_02: Can it land swim?
- 29:02SPEAKER_04: Yes, it actually groot arms and legs and can crawl.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's uh it's a mashup of Ursula and the whale.
- 29:09SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 29:10SPEAKER_18: What if you had Hades and then pain and panic like you know, coming after you before every mile marker?
- 29:19SPEAKER_25: That's too stressful.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: That's like they're like they're like living watches, Jack.
- 29:24SPEAKER_24: I feel like they're like oh now watches now, watches Brittany.
- 29:28SPEAKER_24: Sundials.
- 29:28SPEAKER_24: Anybody want to buy a sundial?
- 29:33SPEAKER_18: He always has such a smart, witty remark.
- 29:36SPEAKER_18: I would just want to be right next to him, just listening to it the entire way, you know?
- 29:41SPEAKER_24: I love all these answers.
- 29:42SPEAKER_24: These are great.
- 29:43SPEAKER_21: Well, Michelle, you said you thought it would be a fun topic.
- 29:46SPEAKER_21: It turned out to be a fun topic.
- 29:47SPEAKER_21: Thanks for your question.
- 29:49SPEAKER_21: Let's move to our friend Lisa from Canada.
- 29:51SPEAKER_11: Hello, Rise and Run family.
- 29:54SPEAKER_11: This is Lisa in Canada, and I'm trying to ask a question.
- 29:59SPEAKER_11: My question is what is your favorite resort/slash resort that you recommend staying at for Walt Disney World Marathon weekend?
- 30:11SPEAKER_11: Okay, thank you.
- 30:12SPEAKER_11: Happy running, everybody.
- 30:14SPEAKER_21: Uh Lisa, my favorite, our favorite, Becky and I, we love Port Orleans French Quarter.
- 30:19SPEAKER_21: We love it because of the size.
- 30:20SPEAKER_21: It's the smallest resort there.
- 30:22SPEAKER_21: We like that.
- 30:23SPEAKER_21: It's a lot of fun.
- 30:24SPEAKER_21: Uh, we and of course, we love the beignets.
- 30:28SPEAKER_21: So POFQ is ours.
- 30:30SPEAKER_21: And in fact, that's where we will be staying for this year's marathon weekend.
- 30:35SPEAKER_24: Bob, I will second Port Orleans French Quarter uh for all the reasons that's you that you said.
- 30:40SPEAKER_24: And then on top of that, in terms of a rise and run weekend perspective, it's great because then you can hop on the boat, it takes you right down to Disney Springs, which is always really nice.
- 30:49SPEAKER_24: Uh, I I will throw in my honorable mention of uh, and and this is my DVC resort, is the Polynesian.
- 30:56SPEAKER_24: I think it's great for a race weekend, awesome food, great pools to relax in.
- 31:02SPEAKER_24: You have the hot tubs to be able to uh recover in as well, too.
- 31:06SPEAKER_24: You in theory, if you were gonna stay up late, you could be relaxing in the hot tub watching the Magic Kingdom fireworks go off, which uh you really can't beat that.
- 31:16SPEAKER_24: But to me, for the logistical side of things, now in theory, this is only applicable during marathon weekend, and maybe Princess is hopping on the monorail, you're not having to worry about the stress of the buses, and you know, is there but the potential to get lost and everything?
- 31:34SPEAKER_24: And I I think I remember when I stayed there two years ago, I was able to sleep in an extra half an hour because the monorail wasn't starting until 2.30 as opposed to two for the buses, and I was still in Epcot in enough time that I was able to essentially like rope drop the family reunion area to get a couple of photos.
- 31:54SPEAKER_24: So being on that monorail loop, um, it really does pay dividends as well.
- 31:58SPEAKER_04: Unfortunately, I only stayed at one resort the entire time because I cannot get a wait list anymore.
- 32:04SPEAKER_04: So uh because seven months out for a race weekend, you're never getting a uh resort sometimes.
- 32:12SPEAKER_04: Saratoga.
- 32:13SPEAKER_21: John stays at Saratoga DVC, but it's a nice place, and you can walk to the meetup.
- 32:18SPEAKER_21: Yes, I can walk to the meetup, and I looked at it logistically.
- 32:22SPEAKER_04: If the buses never showed, it's a close enough walk to Fot.
- 32:28SPEAKER_18: I will say probably mine's definitely Port Elene's French Quarter, like reasons that Bob and Greg have already said before, but I'm gonna put one out there, and I know Greg will definitely disagree.
- 32:41SPEAKER_18: Um, I really like Animal Kingdom, that's the only place I've stayed.
- 32:48SPEAKER_24: Why do I be with Animal Kingdom, Jack?
- 32:50SPEAKER_18: Because they had the alarms go off and you had them even earlier for your race weekend.
- 32:56SPEAKER_18: What was it last year?
- 32:58SPEAKER_24: Uh oh, it was that was springtime two years ago.
- 33:00SPEAKER_24: I mean, Greg, I I don't hold that against Animal Kingdom Lodge.
- 33:03SPEAKER_24: I I I love Animal Kingdom Lodge.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: Greg's like on the in the background, like on Yelp, like one star, one star.
- 33:11SPEAKER_21: But Brittany, you've only stayed at AKL, that's it.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I say off the other the other times.
- 33:17SPEAKER_21: The the only other one that none of us mentioned that is kind of a fun place to stay on race weekends is pop.
- 33:25SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 33:25SPEAKER_18: Oh, why did I say art of animation?
- 33:28SPEAKER_21: Well, AOA is okay, it's right next door.
- 33:30SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 33:30SPEAKER_21: But people like to stay at pop.
- 33:31SPEAKER_21: You get a lot of runners there and a lot of chance to meet up, but still.
- 33:35SPEAKER_04: I was I was saying also for a visitor or a cheerer, the boardwalk resorts would be a great place to stay.
- 33:40SPEAKER_18: Oh, yeah, that's a dream place to stay at.
- 33:44SPEAKER_18: I mean, art of animation and pop are fantastic, don't get me wrong.
- 33:48SPEAKER_18: But boardwalk, boy, would that just be easy to cheer.
- 33:51SPEAKER_21: Anyway, there you go, Lisa.
- 33:52SPEAKER_21: Those are the places that we like to stay.
- 33:54SPEAKER_21: Thanks for your question.
- 33:55SPEAKER_21: Bethany's got a question for us.
- 33:57SPEAKER_08: Hey, Rise and Run fam, this is Bethany from Lake Orion, Michigan.
- 34:02SPEAKER_08: First of all, I want to say congratulations and thank you for five awesome years of the Rise and Run podcast.
- 34:08SPEAKER_08: You all truly keep us running, motivated, and with a smile on our face.
- 34:13SPEAKER_08: I love listening every week.
- 34:15SPEAKER_08: My question is we know how you all started running, but what keeps you running?
- 34:20SPEAKER_08: Obviously, the community and Run Disney, but what really motivates you to keep going, you know, on those hard speed work days, on the long miles, what truly drives you?
- 34:32SPEAKER_08: Can't wait to listen to your fifth year episode and happy running.
- 34:37SPEAKER_02: I thought about these a lot because I read the questions earlier and was just thinking about them a lot.
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: And um for me, I mean, this is my job, right?
- 34:47SPEAKER_02: So I think um there's motivation of there's motivation and pressure, but at the end of the day, I'm out there doing the exact same thing.
- 34:55SPEAKER_02: And for me, it is novelty.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: Like keeping your runs and your speed workouts novel is more important to me than specific splits.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: I'll sacrifice 10, 15 seconds per rep on whatever I'm doing, if it means like maybe it wasn't the most ideal route, or maybe like I put together a banger of a playlist and I'm running somewhere weird.
- 35:21SPEAKER_02: Um, like that to me means more than specific ones.
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: So I think sometimes if I'm feeling like I'm putting too much pressure on speed workouts or I'm not having fun with it, I need to like pull back and say, like, what am I making this novel?
- 35:36SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't ever run, I don't remember the last time I've ever run the exact same route ever.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: Like I'm just not a like, here's my three mile neighborhood loop because it's sometimes it's helpful, but other times it's like, I want to just go explore.
- 35:49SPEAKER_02: And that's why I have themes and give my runners challenges with themes.
- 35:53SPEAKER_02: It's like we've got to keep it novel, in my opinion, because it can get boring.
- 35:57SPEAKER_02: And I don't like the stereotype that like running can be boring.
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: And um I think it's boring if you let it, but your mind has so much creativity in it that I think I'd rather spend 15 minutes of my time rather than those extra mile, that extra mile of my run, like prepping for how to make this just a little bit more novel.
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: Maybe I'm running one different street um on this, or maybe I'm like like wearing a costume for a speed workout or like a costume item.
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: Um, and maybe that costs me 10 seconds.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: Who cares?
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: Like that doesn't matter.
- 36:32SPEAKER_02: Um, so for me, that's um really, really important.
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: That's what keeps me going because it's just something new that I'm playing with every day.
- 36:40SPEAKER_21: Fascinating, really is.
- 36:42SPEAKER_21: And you know, Britney, uh you have motivated or encouraged a lot of our friends with some of the ideas that you pass on, keeping things novel.
- 36:51SPEAKER_21: A lot of our friends will go out and look for collars because they've learned that from you, or different things to distract, not distract them, but to keep their attention while they're running.
- 37:03SPEAKER_21: So interesting.
- 37:04SPEAKER_21: Thank you.
- 37:05SPEAKER_24: You know, I I was trying to think of you know an answer to this question.
- 37:08SPEAKER_24: I mean, and obviously a big part of it, but you know, obviously already addressed in Bethany's question of you know, it's just it's our rise and run community family and and you know, just and the Run Disney family in in general as a whole.
- 37:21SPEAKER_24: I mean, obviously that's a big part, but removing that from the question, I would say for me, what had especially in the last year and a half, two years, uh, what has been motivating me is I am not a selfish person by any means whatsoever, but I've been trying to get better at putting that focus on doing things for me is important.
- 37:44SPEAKER_24: And one of those is for my health.
- 37:46SPEAKER_24: Yeah.
- 37:47SPEAKER_24: And you know, I've you know, Bob, you as you mentioned it before, you know, I I've been very, very fortunate that I've been very successful in my weight loss journey in in these last uh you know year and a half.
- 37:59SPEAKER_24: And I know and you know, and I look at other aspects of my life that this activity and the idea of movement is hopefully going to benefit me much later on down in life.
- 38:11SPEAKER_24: You know, like I take multiple factors into consideration.
- 38:14SPEAKER_24: Like number one, losing my mom, you know, at a young age.
- 38:19SPEAKER_24: So making sure that I'm being physically active to make sure that what happened to her doesn't happen to me.
- 38:25SPEAKER_24: Bob, I look at you.
- 38:26SPEAKER_24: The fact that you know you continue to pound the pavement each and every single week, you know, through injury after injury, and still continue to get out there.
- 38:35SPEAKER_24: And the fact that you're doing that the age that you are, you know, gives me a lot of positive reinforcement and the goal that I want to achieve.
- 38:42SPEAKER_24: And then I look at, you know, up until last year, I had three grandparents still alive.
- 38:47SPEAKER_24: I mean, unfortunately, I lost I lost one of them last year, but both of my mom's parents are still with us at ages 99 and 101.
- 38:57SPEAKER_24: And that's something.
- 38:59SPEAKER_24: I know they I know they aren't runners, but 99 and 101, why not?
- 39:05SPEAKER_24: They they were physically active enough in their life, and maybe it's just Slovakian cooking also that probably keeps them going as well, too.
- 39:14SPEAKER_24: But you know, I I know that they did enough in their lives early on that it really benefited them.
- 39:19SPEAKER_24: Oh, it shows and and that is what keeps me motivated.
- 39:23SPEAKER_21: It does, it shows, no doubt.
- 39:24SPEAKER_21: If you want to keep moving, you have to keep moving.
- 39:27SPEAKER_21: Bethany, I think I hope uh some great answers to that.
- 39:29SPEAKER_21: I I enjoyed listening to our friends answer those.
- 39:32SPEAKER_21: Uh, you you know, my answer was in your question.
- 39:35SPEAKER_21: It's you.
- 39:36SPEAKER_21: It's you, it's the family.
- 39:37SPEAKER_21: So let's move on.
- 39:38SPEAKER_21: Let's go all the way out to Hawaii and hear from our friend Chris.
- 39:42SPEAKER_21: Aloha, rise and run family.
- 39:44SPEAKER_22: This is Chris in Hawaii.
- 39:47SPEAKER_22: And my question for your five-year anniversary episode is if you could add one more ride that would be open during any of the runs, similar to how if Everest is an option right now, what would it be?
- 40:04SPEAKER_22: And uh why why would you want that ride over in the other one?
- 40:09SPEAKER_22: Happy anniversary, guys.
- 40:10SPEAKER_18: With the way they have the route in Magic Kingdom, I would really, really appreciate it if they opened up the people mover.
- 40:19SPEAKER_21: Oh, really?
- 40:20SPEAKER_21: That's an interesting answer.
- 40:22SPEAKER_18: And then that way you can like literally watch people in different little areas of the race tomorrow.
- 40:28SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 40:29SPEAKER_21: That would be great.
- 40:30SPEAKER_21: Uh you know, Jack, the one time, well, one of the times, I think I've cheered twice, I hopped on the monorail, you know, and you could see everybody out there on the uh it was a half marathon course for me.
- 40:42SPEAKER_21: That was kind of cool.
- 40:43SPEAKER_21: I thought you were gonna go with an and this would be my answer, but Chris, I'd have to get a lot faster to ride anything.
- 40:48SPEAKER_21: But I would ride Tron if it was open.
- 40:51SPEAKER_21: I think that'd be neat.
- 40:52SPEAKER_18: I didn't even think about that one yet.
- 40:55SPEAKER_18: Could you imagine them like playing some music like the Muppets moving right along, like on like the people mover or Tron?
- 41:04SPEAKER_21: I like it.
- 41:04SPEAKER_21: I like it.
- 41:05SPEAKER_21: Brittany, you're you're too win, you're too busy winning these races to stop for rides, but did you ever think about doing one?
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: Um, I would love to.
- 41:14SPEAKER_02: Um I don't know enough of the names of them.
- 41:17SPEAKER_02: That's all right.
- 41:18SPEAKER_02: So I would have no idea.
- 41:19SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, I don't even know like what runs by what.
- 41:22SPEAKER_02: Like they're just trying to get through the thing.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: I'll just stick with that.
- 41:29SPEAKER_24: Okay, there you go.
- 41:31SPEAKER_24: All right.
- 41:31SPEAKER_24: So for one that it would technically be off the the bean path is you know, one of my favorite rides is jungle cruise.
- 41:41SPEAKER_24: And I would do that even though it takes a while to get through it, and obviously it would slow down my time.
- 41:47SPEAKER_24: Yeah, I think it would provide me the mental reset that I would need because you know, just hearing several bad dad jokes and then you know, being able to see the eighth wonder of the world, the backside of water, I think would be rejuvenating enough to get out of that boat and then keep going.
- 42:05SPEAKER_24: Uh, but then the other one, uh maybe you know, you could do this for springtime surprise since the course has been the same for so long, is Toy Story Mania.
- 42:14SPEAKER_24: Because I feel like it's like quick enough of a ride, but then you could still have that competitive edge going.
- 42:20SPEAKER_24: You know, so you have the competitive edge from the race, but then competitive age of trying to you know break as many plates and throw as many pies and everything like that, and then you know, talking smack about who got the best ride in the car as you like exit the ride and get back onto the course.
- 42:35SPEAKER_02: Okay, what if they did like that, but like live on course?
- 42:39SPEAKER_02: Like it was kind of like a Mario Kart situation.
- 42:41SPEAKER_02: Like, what if you were smashing, like you had to like dodge as many things and like smash as many plates like on course?
- 42:48SPEAKER_02: That'd be great.
- 42:49SPEAKER_24: Oh I I like Brittany.
- 42:51SPEAKER_24: I I'm gonna nominate you for next race director uh for Run Disney, just so we could have that type of entertainment.
- 42:57SPEAKER_25: That would be a dream.
- 42:59SPEAKER_21: Fun stuff.
- 43:00SPEAKER_21: Um, moving now, we've got two here that both deal with motivation.
- 43:04SPEAKER_21: Our friend Divya asked a question on Facebook about people having trouble motivating themselves.
- 43:12SPEAKER_21: But let's put I'm gonna play Monica's question here.
- 43:15SPEAKER_21: It's pretty much the same question.
- 43:17SPEAKER_07: My question for Brittany and the rest of the game is what would you advise someone who has lost their why in learning or have a why that no longer aligns with them?
- 43:26SPEAKER_07: Also, if you've ever lost your own why, can you share some of the things you did to reconnect with it or find a new one?
- 43:32SPEAKER_07: Shalamas and happy fifth-year anniversary to the Rise in World Podcast.
- 43:37SPEAKER_02: Divya is one of my runners.
- 43:39SPEAKER_02: So I would say, Divya, um, hello, you're amazing.
- 43:42SPEAKER_02: Um, if you're struggling with motivation, tell your coach.
- 43:44SPEAKER_02: Um, because you'll come up with creative ways to uh make sure you're motivated.
- 43:49SPEAKER_02: Um, one of the biggest things that like immediately jumps out that I really wanted to tackle was something that I saw recently on Instagram and then also experienced recently with my race in France.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: That I was mentioning that was just kind of like okay.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: I saw this posted Instagram recently.
- 44:06SPEAKER_02: I can't remember who even wrote it, but it was something about being okay with letting go of the big races.
- 44:11SPEAKER_02: Um, if it doesn't align with you.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: So I really struggled all summer training and training for the race that I was training for in France because I just didn't align with the race.
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: It's it's kind of like the it's, and I don't mean this in a negative way, but it's kind of like the Boston marathon of the trail world in the sense of like, it's a huge deal.
- 44:34SPEAKER_02: You have to qualify for it.
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: Like it's like this massive weekend, and there's so much wrapped in it.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: The brands go crazy.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: Like, there's so much around it.
- 44:43SPEAKER_02: It's wildly competitive.
- 44:45SPEAKER_02: There's so much money on the line for performance.
- 44:48SPEAKER_02: Um, there's so much like so much expectation out of brands from you as athletes.
- 44:52SPEAKER_02: And this is obviously just coming from a, you know, my perspective of the elite side.
- 44:57SPEAKER_02: And I was just like, I ran it and I like finish and I remember racing it, and I was like, I just don't have any heart in this.
- 45:04SPEAKER_02: My heart is not in it and it wasn't in it all summer.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: It I was just like not excited for it, but I felt like I needed to do it.
- 45:11SPEAKER_02: I felt like it was a career box check.
- 45:14SPEAKER_02: I felt like I needed to do it to show up for the brand, even though like North Face doesn't have any expectations on us in terms of like what races we do.
- 45:23SPEAKER_02: But I just was like, I just this isn't exciting to me.
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: I'm not having fun with training.
- 45:28SPEAKER_02: Um, and that post, it was like, you don't have to do it.
- 45:32SPEAKER_02: Like if it's not aligning with you just because it's the thing to do, if the if BQ is just something that's just not exciting for you and it's almost demotivating, um, then it's not the right thing and it's okay to let it go.
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: And I think that for me, I kind of just like did the race in France and I signed off on my mental self of like, I'm not doing this again.
- 45:54SPEAKER_02: Like my career is too short, running is too short.
- 45:57SPEAKER_02: We get so many races that we get to do that I don't want to waste my time anymore.
- 46:02SPEAKER_02: Like, this isn't a line, and all I could think about was like, I cannot wait to get to Javelina.
- 46:07SPEAKER_02: It's maybe a less well-known race or maybe less prestigious race.
- 46:11SPEAKER_02: Pretty prestigious, like less prestigious, I would say, than anything with UTMB in that realm.
- 46:17SPEAKER_02: But like, I don't care.
- 46:18SPEAKER_02: Like, I'm ready to go full throttle.
- 46:20SPEAKER_02: Like, I'm spending so much time bedazzling all of my costumes, and I cannot wait.
- 46:26SPEAKER_02: I cannot wait.
- 46:27SPEAKER_02: And it's like that's what's more important.
- 46:29SPEAKER_02: So I think one of the things for motivation for me, I'm I haven't been more motivated in these last like eight weeks coming off of that France race to Javelina because I'm like, this is what I want to do.
- 46:39SPEAKER_02: This is what I'm excited about.
- 46:41SPEAKER_02: And so I think evaluating if what you're training for is actually exciting you.
- 46:45SPEAKER_02: And if it isn't, maybe reevaluate.
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: Like, is this something like, and I my teammate, I remember I got done with the race in France and I was like lying on the floor, my feet were destroyed.
- 46:56SPEAKER_02: We were in our um chalet, and she was like, Do you think you were doing this race for the wrong reasons?
- 47:01SPEAKER_02: And I was like, didn't even hesitate.
- 47:02SPEAKER_02: And I was like, 100% I was doing this for the wrong reasons.
- 47:05SPEAKER_02: Um, and every race that I do for the wrong reasons, like whether it's for somebody else or because it's for performance or because I think I should, is when I'm not motivated.
- 47:15SPEAKER_02: Um, and it's quite opposite when I'm when something really aligns with me and like what what's important to me in my running.
- 47:22SPEAKER_02: So I think that's something that's really important for people to have permission.
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: You don't have to be a BQ runner, you don't have to do dopey, you don't have to do UTMB, you don't have to do any of these races if they aren't calling to you.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: I think your journey is your journey and that matters.
- 47:38SPEAKER_02: Um, and I think that that's gonna take your motivation much further than a have to or a should.
- 47:44SPEAKER_21: I think we'll drop the mic there.
- 47:46SPEAKER_21: Got that right.
- 47:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so Divya, good luck this week and you're gonna crush it.
- 47:51SPEAKER_21: Really?
- 47:52SPEAKER_21: Divya, thanks for the question.
- 47:53SPEAKER_21: And that was also uh Monica's question.
- 47:56SPEAKER_21: Same question there.
- 47:57SPEAKER_21: So thank you guys.
- 48:00SPEAKER_21: Let's move now.
- 48:01SPEAKER_21: Our next friend, our next question comes from our friend Troy, who you would think could keep questions to 30 seconds because Holler hype Troy.
- 48:13SPEAKER_21: But this is the longest question that we got, and here it is.
- 48:17SPEAKER_00: Hello, and this is Troy from uh Spring Hill, Florida.
- 48:20SPEAKER_00: First of all, I just want to say to Brittany, I'm a huge fan, and I can really appreciate the fun and positivity that you bring to running.
- 48:28SPEAKER_00: So I consider myself a recreational runner, and I've been kind of looking for a carbon-plated shoe that balances performance with comfort for distance running fast, maybe four marathons.
- 48:41SPEAKER_00: I've experimented with a couple of brands that's kind of hurting after about 13, 14 miles with so much attention on what elite athletes are wearing.
- 48:50SPEAKER_00: What should everyday runners look for if they want a little extra edge and performance?
- 48:56SPEAKER_00: And are there any particular shoes that you might suggest trying?
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: Thanks for your uh your input.
- 49:02SPEAKER_02: Troy, thank you um for the shout-out.
- 49:05SPEAKER_02: And um, I'm glad that my weirdness is coming through.
- 49:08SPEAKER_02: Um, my technical answer that the best carbon-plated shoe on the market is the North Face Pro Vective or Vective Pro 4.
- 49:15SPEAKER_02: Thank you very much.
- 49:16SPEAKER_02: Who to sponsor it?
- 49:17SPEAKER_02: Check my sponsorship box.
- 49:18SPEAKER_02: Okay, that's not real.
- 49:19SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's my favorite shoe for certain things.
- 49:22SPEAKER_02: Anyway, um what I find and what I actually recommend is so pretty much every brand right now has great carbon-plated shoes, but I find that people are um what I would always recommend is invest more time in your running form before you and strength training, all of that.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: Make sure all of your other ducks are in a row before you ever go down the carbon plate route.
- 49:46SPEAKER_02: And once you're, let's say you've got your fueling, your strength training, um, and just training under your belt in a good spot, then I would say your running form matters way more.
- 49:58SPEAKER_02: Um, if you've got good running form or you've had your running form looked at, um, you're gonna get way more bang for your buck out of those shoes.
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: I can't tell you how many races I go to and I see people that it's like, oh my gosh, you're just not even able to take advantage of that carbon-plated shoe.
- 50:14SPEAKER_02: Like it's just like you've got to learn how to run in them.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: And it's basically learning how to have a nice forward lean, have a nice midfoot strike, um, and just kind of have your running form tidied up.
- 50:27SPEAKER_02: Um, so if you've got anybody local or you want to call yours truly, I do um virtual sessions.
- 50:33SPEAKER_02: But that's the biggest thing is um, I would really make sure you're nailing down your running form.
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: If you've got injuries, address those first before you ever get in a carbon-plated shoe because you're gonna get a lot more just out of fixing simple things with your running form than you will spending 350 bucks on a shoe.
- 50:50SPEAKER_02: That's not gonna last you very long.
- 50:52SPEAKER_02: So um, but let's say like all those pieces are in a good spot, you're not gonna go terribly wrong with um other with any brand of carbon-plated shoes.
- 51:01SPEAKER_02: Um, they're all kind of really competitive in terms of what they're offering out there on the market right now.
- 51:07SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, if you're going, if you're trying to like get down to those final few minutes and seconds, then I think it really matters what shoe is perfect for you.
- 51:16SPEAKER_02: But I think um, if you're a Hoka um athlete with your normal training shoes, maybe pop into the Hoka carbon plated shoes or any other brand is a nice transition from what you might already be using that um might have the same technology and like bones behind it, that might be a nice transition into the carbon-plated shoes.
- 51:37SPEAKER_21: There you go, Troy.
- 51:38SPEAKER_21: Good answer there.
- 51:39SPEAKER_21: I I'm surprised you didn't ask me the last time I saw you, Troy.
- 51:42SPEAKER_21: No, I'm not.
- 51:46SPEAKER_21: Oh, let's see.
- 51:47SPEAKER_21: Hey, Chrissy's got a question that all of us can answer.
- 51:50SPEAKER_09: It's Chrissy from Pennsylvania, and my question for the Rise and Run group is what is your favorite restroom to stop at during the marathon for marathon weekend?
- 52:02SPEAKER_09: And congrats on five years of podcasting.
- 52:05SPEAKER_21: Well, I say all of us can answer.
- 52:07SPEAKER_21: Brittany, you finished too quickly to make restroom stops.
- 52:10SPEAKER_21: So we'll hand we'll handle this one, okay?
- 52:13SPEAKER_02: Hold on.
- 52:14SPEAKER_02: I have an answer and it's so gross.
- 52:17SPEAKER_02: My favorite restroom stop is my own shorts.
- 52:21SPEAKER_02: I'm not kidding.
- 52:23SPEAKER_02: I've like just gone.
- 52:24SPEAKER_02: Okay, Jack, don't give me that look, also.
- 52:27SPEAKER_02: Um, your horse hype.
- 52:28SPEAKER_02: Uh, but listen, it's really humid in Orlando, and so like I feel like that just equals more water in my brain.
- 52:35SPEAKER_02: And I am like, well, I have to keep running, so I just let it rip.
- 52:40SPEAKER_02: So don't, so if you're in these races, don't run directly behind me.
- 52:46SPEAKER_24: That's not slightly.
- 52:48SPEAKER_21: If that's not the quote of the episode, I don't know what is that might be the title.
- 52:54SPEAKER_21: Uh let it rip with pretty sharp and I'll let it go.
- 52:57SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 52:58SPEAKER_02: Don't run behind me.
- 53:00SPEAKER_21: All right.
- 53:01SPEAKER_21: To the rest of the gang.
- 53:02SPEAKER_21: Do you have a favorite?
- 53:04SPEAKER_21: Jack, you got a favorite?
- 53:06SPEAKER_18: Yeah, for what I it's not even I don't even know if it's a favorite, it's just convenient because it's usually there whenever I need the same spot every time I need to go during a race.
- 53:16SPEAKER_18: It's the bathrooms that are hidden, so like not many people know about it, but the ones that are right next to uh the teacup ride, and there's usually like a character stop right there.
- 53:27SPEAKER_24: Oh, yes.
- 53:28SPEAKER_24: By the uh the the Cheshire Cat Cafe.
- 53:31SPEAKER_24: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 53:32SPEAKER_21: Yep.
- 53:32SPEAKER_21: They're back a little bit.
- 53:33SPEAKER_21: That's that's for the marathon or the half at uh marathon weekend or Princess, of course.
- 53:38SPEAKER_21: What's this?
- 53:38SPEAKER_21: This was a question on Family Feud.
- 53:40SPEAKER_24: Yes, this was a Family Feud question.
- 53:42SPEAKER_24: Yeah, I'm trying to remember that that I think top six or top seven.
- 53:46SPEAKER_18: Um one of them was the Germany bathrooms, but that one's being refurbished right now.
- 53:51SPEAKER_21: No, the the the answer that won it for us was my answer.
- 53:55SPEAKER_21: America.
- 53:56SPEAKER_21: Little a little bit off the beaten path, but yeah, normally, at least for the guys, normally not many people in there.
- 54:01SPEAKER_04: Now that the course doesn't go through there at the end of the race, that's that's a little tough too.
- 54:05SPEAKER_04: Well, because now it's the beginning of the race, so true, you know.
- 54:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but for the marathon anyway, yeah, we'll see.
- 54:11SPEAKER_04: My favorite, I have two favorites, depending on the course.
- 54:15SPEAKER_04: Uh it used to be the one in England because you come at that little shoot, you hop in the bathroom, you get right back on the course, and also means you're almost done.
- 54:24SPEAKER_04: And the other one is that hidden one behind uh journey into imagination.
- 54:29SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 54:29SPEAKER_18: Oh, yeah, because I don't feel people have our nodes there.
- 54:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 54:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but we have a little advantage over you, Jack.
- 54:37SPEAKER_04: Uh the men's room goes a little quicker.
- 54:39SPEAKER_18: Oh, yeah.
- 54:40SPEAKER_04: The men's room goes a lot quicker.
- 54:42SPEAKER_04: In fact, sometimes you walk into the men's room, you're like, Am I in the right room?
- 54:46SPEAKER_21: Because I I've said this before on the podcast.
- 54:49SPEAKER_21: I don't mind the ladies doing that.
- 54:50SPEAKER_21: I don't mind it at all.
- 54:51SPEAKER_21: I mean, good on them if they're because you're you're running, you're like, oh, oh yeah, I see stalls in the corner.
- 54:57SPEAKER_21: It's the right room.
- 54:58SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 54:58SPEAKER_21: And I've never heard a guy complain about it either.
- 55:00SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 55:01SPEAKER_21: Ladies who's in the men's room.
- 55:03SPEAKER_24: John, I will definitely second the the United Kingdom bathrooms because I remember I think it was the year that we did Dopey, so that was 2023, and it was you and I and Heidi.
- 55:16SPEAKER_24: And I remember I was having a bit of a situation at mile 25, and I was like, you're gonna have to finish this race by yourself.
- 55:24SPEAKER_24: And I remember instead of hooking the left into the telephone booth, I hooked the right into the bathroom, and I was terrified that I wasn't gonna be able to get up.
- 55:37SPEAKER_24: And thank God the um the handicap stall was still available.
- 55:43SPEAKER_24: So, of course, I'm having like an anxiety attack because I'm like, okay, I want to be in this stall, so I have a handrail so I can like get myself up and back onto the course so I can finish this marathon.
- 55:55SPEAKER_24: But at the same time, I was terrified that I was gonna be holding up a the stall designated for someone who actually would need to use it.
- 56:02SPEAKER_24: But that that one that one came in clutch for me.
- 56:05SPEAKER_24: But I I'll go with everyone's favorite theme toilet, the tangled toilets.
- 56:09SPEAKER_24: I I think the no better where you get ample stalls and incredible theming.
- 56:15SPEAKER_24: I mean, if that's not the Disney way, I don't know what is.
- 56:18SPEAKER_02: I'm stopping for this from now on.
- 56:20SPEAKER_02: What in the world?
- 56:21SPEAKER_24: Uh Rapunzel can't get a ride in Walt Disney World, but she gets some of the best bathrooms on property.
- 56:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, could you imagine then if Mother Gothel's in there, like pee bastard, pee bastard?
- 56:32SPEAKER_24: Thank you for bringing that full circle.
- 56:35SPEAKER_24: That was great.
- 56:36SPEAKER_24: That that that second city training is really paying off.
- 56:38SPEAKER_02: And this uh thing so money well spent.
- 56:42SPEAKER_04: I I I remember that weekend, Greg, when you said, John, I gotta I gotta bear off and we're running with Heidi.
- 56:49SPEAKER_04: And Heidi goes, Oh, we'll wait for Greg.
- 56:52SPEAKER_04: No, we're not waiting for Greg.
- 56:54SPEAKER_04: Short, yes, Greg sure.
- 56:57SPEAKER_24: Well, that that was also the same race where Jack, you you were getting into a non-combative argument with Meredith because you you were just following me on the tracker, which we all know is only good after like the last timing mat that you hit.
- 57:12SPEAKER_24: And I had texted her, and you were like, but no, it says he should be coming around the corner any second.
- 57:18SPEAKER_18: Those things like I feel like never tell the truth.
- 57:22SPEAKER_04: Well, it's there's like form timing mats, so it's on the unless you're Brittany, they're not very accurate.
- 57:29SPEAKER_21: Right.
- 57:30SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 57:31SPEAKER_21: All right, Chrissy, thanks.
- 57:32SPEAKER_21: Uh hope that helped.
- 57:34SPEAKER_21: Uh we sure had a gamut of answers there.
- 57:38SPEAKER_21: Uh let's see.
- 57:39SPEAKER_21: Let's let's wrap it up.
- 57:40SPEAKER_21: One more.
- 57:41SPEAKER_21: Mandy's got a question.
- 57:43SPEAKER_10: Hey y'all, it's Mandy from New Orleans, Louisiana.
- 57:47SPEAKER_10: My question is what is or was your top bucket list or goal run experience?
- 57:55SPEAKER_10: It doesn't have to be a race.
- 57:58SPEAKER_10: And why?
- 58:00SPEAKER_10: Thanks, and can't wait to see y'all for running on.
- 58:03SPEAKER_21: Doing dopey.
- 58:04SPEAKER_21: Doing dopey?
- 58:06SPEAKER_21: Okay.
- 58:07SPEAKER_21: I'm I'm gonna I'm gonna second that with an asterisk.
- 58:11SPEAKER_21: Um I had uh pushing pushin' Woody at the end of Dopey.
- 58:17SPEAKER_21: Yeah, that's a great one.
- 58:18SPEAKER_21: It was a big deal.
- 58:19SPEAKER_24: I I kind of look at this question in terms of what I have yet to accomplish in terms of bucket lists.
- 58:27SPEAKER_24: I I th I think the the one I will cross off the list, obviously, in two weeks is is New York City.
- 58:32SPEAKER_24: I mean, that's a good one.
- 58:33SPEAKER_24: That's been on the top of the list for a while.
- 58:35SPEAKER_24: Um, but the other one for me um is the Tokyo Marathon.
- 58:40SPEAKER_24: I know it's I I know it's not the the most glamorous of the of the Abbott majors, but just because of my time there as an exchange student when I was in high school and loving the culture and everything like that.
- 58:51SPEAKER_24: And it's amazing.
- 58:52SPEAKER_24: The fact that there was uh the potential that I could do it with with my host sister who has gotten into running in her early 50s and such, that would just mean so much to me.
- 59:02SPEAKER_24: Yeah, so so the New York and Tokyo are the biggest.
- 59:04SPEAKER_21: I think that would be special for you.
- 59:06SPEAKER_21: Jack, how about you?
- 59:07SPEAKER_18: I say my top bucket list, and sorry, Brittany, but uh my top bucket list, I really someday would love to do the UTMB uh World Majors in France.
- 59:22SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 59:23SPEAKER_02: Um listen, listen.
- 59:25SPEAKER_02: I get it though.
- 59:26SPEAKER_02: No, I think it's awesome.
- 59:28SPEAKER_02: I think it's I totally get why it's such a cool big deal.
- 59:34SPEAKER_02: Like, and it's in Don't Game Wrong, it was stunning.
- 59:37SPEAKER_02: It was like, yes, 100% go do it.
- 59:40SPEAKER_02: Um, I think maybe it was also like I was just not a good head place too.
- 59:45SPEAKER_21: So yeah, it's a but you you two would approach it from a different perspective, though.
- 59:50SPEAKER_18: I would say I think my my perspective is not because it's the thing that all the ultra runners want to do now.
- 59:56SPEAKER_18: I so I just it has actually genuinely nothing to do with that.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_18: It's the fact that one of my favorite movies, I know it's not New Zealand that we're running in, but one of my favorite movies, trilogies, whatever you want to call it, is Lord of the Rings.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_18: And I feel like that race is like being able to run to Mordor and going through all the beautiful scenery.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_18: Um, I know it's not again, it's not New Zealand.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_18: I know there is a race that does that stuff, and I consider it someday, but I just think it's so beautiful and scenic, and it for whatever reason it reminds me of those movies, and I'm like, that would be so cool.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_18: If I want to run 100 miles and it probably be my last 100 mile race, it would be that one.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_02: Um, so there's a perfect example of like a layer underneath of what like what's your why with it, right?
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_02: Like, I think that's perfect.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_18: I and then I would say it's the year that you ran it too, Brittany.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_18: Not on purpose.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_18: I promise it's not what I'm saying.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_18: But um my my favorite race I've done in the past, because that's part of the other part of the question, correct?
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_21: Well, you could have done either one, yeah.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_21: Or yeah, go ahead.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_21: Go ahead.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_18: One of my top bucket list races that I did get to do was like Sonoma for the same reasons was the views.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_18: Now, would I have liked to have known that there was all those hills throughout that?
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_18: Probably.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_18: Did I have time to research it?
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_18: Yes, did I?
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_18: No.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_18: And I will run into the shame they kept that secret from you, Jack.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_18: That's you know what they call it relentless.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_18: I didn't I know, I didn't realize you couldn't use trekking poles for that race.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_18: You had to have a specific reason why you're using the trekking poles to be able to use them, and I didn't know that.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_21: Brittany, people our friends will make Facebook posts and they will say, I pulled a jack.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_21: I didn't investigate the course.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's become a uh maybe do that a little bit.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_02: I would definitely do that for UTMB, Jack.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_18: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_18: I'll guess I'll probably invest in some good sturdy ones, other than my crappy Amazon cheap ones.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, get some luckies, get some luckies.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_02: Luckies.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_21: Brittany, you want to you want to take us out?
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_21: You got an answer on this one?
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, my like top two big things that come to mind for um my past races.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_02: I mean, the Olympic trials in 2020 were incredible.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_02: It was like just such an amazing experience.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_02: Um, and then Dopey.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_02: There's there's a reason why I've got my tattoo of Dopey.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_02: Like that was just proof to myself that I can do things my way.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_02: Um, and then my three bucket list things that I'd still love to do.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_02: Um, so I studied abroad in Peru and I would love to set the course record um either just one direction or there and back of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_02: Um, so that's been on my list for a while.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_02: Um I am actually thinking about Tarawera in New Zealand, Jack, next year.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_02: Um, because I lived in New Zealand.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_02: This is so bad.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_02: I lived in New Zealand for two years and I never ran the trails.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_02: I was specifically a roadrunner because I was too afraid of nature.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_02: So I'm like, I should probably go back and race in terror at Terrawera.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_02: So I'm thinking for that for next year.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_02: And then one of my biggest ones that I've been kind of trying to work on behind the scenes, but I don't know how it would work and run Disney is like, that's not us.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_02: Um, is I was like, well, I'm never gonna do Dopey again, like as a front runner, but I would love to do dopey as a balloon lady.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_02: And I was like, how do I do that?
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_02: So um that would be a bucket list item is to get to do dopey from the front and the from the back.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_02: Um like I would love to help people like that.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_02: You're like, oh my gosh, come on, you're so close.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_02: Like you can so do this.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_02: Like that would be my that would be a bucket list item for me for sure.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_21: Awesome.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_21: Friends, we're gonna we're gonna wrap it up with the questions there.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_21: Thank you so much for helping us.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_21: Thank you for participating in our fifth anniversary episode.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_21: And Brittany Charbonneau, we're gonna let you go now.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_21: But golly, it's it's always a delight to have you with us.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_21: Thanks for doing this.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_21: Hey, when might we see you again at Disney?
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_02: Um, we will Jasmine, Hugo, and I will definitely be at Marathon Weekend.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_21: That's right.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_21: You said that.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_21: That's right.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_21: Yeah, you said that earlier, yes.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna be there.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_02: I've now I'm gonna have to find a way to stay at the French Quarter, according to you guys.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_02: Sounds rad.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_02: So um I don't know what capacity yet will be what we'll be doing there yet.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't I don't know if I'll be racing.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_02: I highly doubt it, but um, I know we'll be there to cheer and just be there for everything.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_02: And then I'll like whatever you guys have going on, count me in, please.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_02: We'll be there for sure.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_21: Okay, for sure.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_02: Can I give a quick shout out?
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_21: You know you can.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_02: Okay, I'm gonna give it's a two-parter number one.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_02: Um, I need to give a quick shout-out to all the people I've been coaching that are racing this weekend.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_02: Um, Sarah, Blake, Kimmy, Liz, Divya, uh, Lieutenant Dan, Bell are all doing Grumpy.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_02: So can good luck this weekend and have a blast.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_02: And then Lucy is doing the half.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_02: Lucy's been on before.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_02: She's doing the half marathon.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_02: Um, and then Hira is an avid listener.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_02: She's doing a Pirate 12K um this weekend.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_02: So wanted to give a shout out.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_02: Wanted to give a shout out to you guys.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_02: You guys are um doing something really, really cool.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_02: And um, it's not going unnoticed.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_02: I think it's just just really special what you guys have built.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_02: So I hope you also get a moment to congratulate yourselves on like, look at what we've done, you guys.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_02: Like, you can't go to a Disney expo and not see people just littered with rise and run gear that they're so proud to wear.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_02: Um, so just all of that.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_02: Um, John, I think you have an outstanding accent.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_02: Um, I'd like to give you that special.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_02: Shout out, Bob.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_02: You have re you are like the voice of radio.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_02: Like your voice is just like so lovely.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_21: I have a face radio too, Britney.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_02: I mean, I was gonna say that, but I just want you to know that your voice is particularly good for radio.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_02: Greg, I think that you are really inspiring with your journey, and I think that's really cool that you are sharing that.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_02: Um, and Jack, I love that our Venn diagram crosses with the trail world, and I just think you're absolutely adorable.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_02: So yeah, so thank you guys so much.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_02: This really means a lot that um you let me be part of this, that you consider me one of your own.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_02: Um, and um I'm just like so grateful to be a part of it and just really looking forward to seeing what everyone does this weekend and just keep being the weird use of the Disney World because you're inspiring me and my world and you're giving me permission to do my thing knowing I've got like all these people have my back, you know, oh yeah, in a different realm.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_02: So thank you guys all so much.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_24: Well, well, Brittany, thank thank you for taking a chance on us.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_24: I mean, you're yeah, I you know, I I I think back to the time where you know you are less than 24 hours after making Run Disney history, and I'm sitting on the Magic Kingdom Ferry, and I'm crafting an Instagram message to you, and we're barely three months old at that point, and you said yes, and it is blossomed into this lovely flower and friendship that I know all of us, not just host wise, but the community, just cherish so much.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_24: So thank you for taking the chance on us as well.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, thanks.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_02: It's so mutual.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_02: You guys are doing something really special.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_02: So just happy to be on this like weird, weird Run Disney ride.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_02: Um, so this is really funny.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_02: So all my trail people, so I'm leaving for I talk a lot.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_02: Just let me wrap this up.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_02: Uh so I leave for Arkansas tomorrow for a North Face event.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_02: And every time I'm with them, they're like, like run, like, what do you mean about Run Disney?
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_02: Like, Run Disney is a thing.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_17: And I'm like, oh my gosh, you have no idea.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_02: Like, Run Disney is a thing.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_02: Um, so I feel like kind of cool because I'm like, I know this special little niche um thing that's just like like I feel like okay, don't take this in a bad way.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_02: I feel like the Run Disney crew and like all the Run Disney people, it's like the secret bathrooms, the secret tangled bathrooms or something where we're like, I know something you don't know.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_02: Like, but everybody's welcome.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_02: But like I know something you don't know.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_21: All right, my friend.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_21: One more time.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_21: Thank you so much.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_25: Thank you.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_25: That's not what I meant.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_21: You can do whatever you want.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_21: We love you anyway.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_02: Oh, well, thanks, guys.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_02: You're amazing.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_21: All right, happy running, Brittany.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_23: Caution runners, the topic is about to change right now.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_21: Well, that's going to be hard to top, but thanks for your participation, friends, and our sincere thanks to our dear friend Brittany Charbonneau for joining us and playing guest hosts and helping to answer your questions.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_21: Now, we also asked our Patreons to give us a list of the top five episodes of the last five years.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_21: We'll get to that in a minute, but before we do that, we want to share with you our top five episodes for the last five years.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_21: Just general conversation, friends.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_21: This was tough.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_21: I thought it was really hard.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_21: Uh a lot of comments I got from our Patreon friends said, Bob, this was hard.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_21: 264 episodes when we looked at it.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_21: This is 265.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_21: Man, we had a good time.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_21: Didn't we?
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_21: I mean, we had some fun interviews, we had some fun stuff amongst ourselves, but without going much longer, because we're already on a long episode.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_21: Let me ask, John, you want to kick us off and tell us.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_21: I don't know if you have them in order or not, John.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_04: I I put them in order, I'm thinking.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_21: Okay.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_21: All right.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_04: I'm not thinking I know I put them in order, but uh Okay.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_21: Go ahead and well, kick us off with number five, then please.
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_04: Number five is uh episode 118 when we uh brought I it's it's Run Disney Marathon History with Alan and Grace.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah Alan's Alan's great.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_04: Alan's got these stats about oh yeah, that was the uh 22nd marathon, and they had a uh shirt that was blue with a red stripe, and uh, you know, all the good stats.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_04: That Alan's great with that.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_21: You know, I remember uh Mark Hargraves uh was the guy who approved Alan's request to join the group, and he sends us a message, he goes, and he was very excited.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_21: Alan Young has joined the group, and I go, Who's that?
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_21: And uh we have become such very close friends, and and Grace and Becky have become good friends, and uh just another wonderful thing that's happened because of this podcast.
- 1:11:05SPEAKER_21: But uh having said all that, Alan didn't make my top five at all.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_24: I'm sure you're gonna hear about that.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_24: Oh, yeah, I will.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_21: Anybody else?
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_21: I have him on my list.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_21: No, I don't.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_21: I don't have him on there at all.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_21: Jack, uh, give me uh a number five.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_21: Uh and I don't care.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_21: You said you didn't have him in order, I don't care.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_21: You can give me anyone you want.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_18: I don't have mine in order, but I will put um I really enjoyed episode 130 that started off with the attractions march madness.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_18: Our conversation about the attractions with that whole March Madness and went on for a few episodes was fantastic.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_18: I absolutely loved it.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_21: That's a good one, Jack.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_21: I didn't have that one.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_21: Uh I'll go, let's see.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_21: Alicia gave us a number five, episode 47, uh Martinez Evans episode.
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_21: Yeah, that was a good one.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_21: That's a good one.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_21: I didn't have it in my top five, but that is a good one.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_21: I cheated.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_21: I started the podcast.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_21: I can cheat.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_21: I I have a trio in the number five spot.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_21: Right the uh beginning of 2023, I think it was.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_21: Episode 69, 70, and 71.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_21: I really, I really thought that those were three of our best episodes stuck all together.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_21: Uh, 69 was Katie Cargiolo, marathon winner.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_21: 70 was Taryn.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_21: Taryn Toreau.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_18: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_21: Taryn is an honorable mention for me.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_21: What a dynamite.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_21: You know, I I look forward.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_21: She's gonna be at Wine and Dine.
- 1:12:47SPEAKER_21: I love following her in uh in the socials, she's terrific.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_21: And then we did Conquering Cancer, uh, Tale of True Runners with Lindsay and Jen.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_21: And I was very proud of those three episodes.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_21: If anybody were to ask me, I'm new to Rise and Run, what should I listen to?
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_21: I'd say 69, 70, and 71.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_21: So I lumped them together.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_21: It's kind of like the uh kind of like the backside of the Abbey Road album where all the songs run together.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_21: So that's my I I cheated on that.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_21: So that's my number five.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_21: Greg, you're up.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_24: Uh my number five, I'm going with a uh relatively recent episode.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_24: Uh, I'm gonna go with 210, which I guess in theory it was a year ago.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_24: Um, our conversation with AJ Wolfe about uh the whole concept of Disney adults.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_24: Obviously, not particularly running related, but but it was just very interesting reading her book and then having that conversation with her of you know what triggers this mental thing that you know there's so many subsects of you know of you know grown adults who have this infatuation with the Walt Disney Company, and obviously Run Disney is a huge part of that.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_24: So yeah, I I found that conversation to uh be really enlightening.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_21: Before I go any further, I did put one caveat on all this.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_21: I asked our friends, if if if we just let this go, I was sure that number one would be the Jeff Galloway episodes, number two would be a tie between the Britney Charbonneau and Chris Twiggs episodes, and I didn't want that, so I asked our friends not to consider those episodes in and I and the fact the gang here did the same thing, didn't consider those in uh in picking their top five.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_21: So when you're if you're wondering what's up with that, that's the reason for that.
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_21: Uh number four, I'll go to Alicia's list again, and this is a good one, it's not on mine.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_21: World Marathon Challenge, episode 73.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_21: Oh, yeah.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_21: With Michael, yep.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_21: With Michael, yeah, that that was fun.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_21: That was a good episode.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_21: Anyone else have that on their list?
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_24: No, definitely made the short list, that was for sure, but then.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_21: I had it, yeah.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_21: I I did have yeah, I did have it.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_21: In fact, we made no nope nope.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_21: All right, yeah, I had it.
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_21: I did.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_21: Uh Jack, give me another one.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_21: Give me your whatever your number four is.
- 1:15:13SPEAKER_18: Um, I put uh it was episode 28, the Lake Sonoma 50 Miler with me and Brittany.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_21: That was a good one.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_21: That was, and that was kind of neat where Brittany kind of was our surprise guest.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_21: You didn't know she was coming.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_18: No.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_21: And she came back for us.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_21: I thought that was that a birthday surprise too for you.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_18: Uh yeah, because Lake Sonoma is like right around my birthday.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_21: Yeah, it was kind of special.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_21: John?
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_04: Uh episode 102, your healthy cancer comeback with Fitz Kohler.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_21: Oh, good one.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_21: Good one.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_21: I had Fitz in my uh yeah, list of other considerations.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_21: She's a lot of fun.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_21: We we may need to look for a reason to get her back.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_21: I'll see her in February.
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_21: She gets down here for uh Gasparilla.
- 1:16:01SPEAKER_04: You'll see us at Donna too if you're doing the Donna.
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_21: Oh, absolutely.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_21: You're right.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_21: You're right.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_21: Thanks, John.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_21: That's true.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_21: I had at number four our interview with Meb, episode 205.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_21: Rise and run with Meb medals and motivation.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_21: You know, one of our Olympian interviews.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_21: Boy, I enjoyed that.
- 1:16:22SPEAKER_21: What a nice man.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_21: What a pleasure to talk with.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_24: My number four.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_24: I am going to a pretty early episode.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_24: I'm going with episode number 22.
- 1:16:33SPEAKER_24: We don't talk about Bruno.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_18: That was mine.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_24: That made a number of chat.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_21: That's okay.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_21: That made a number of lists.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_21: We finally hit there.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_21: Uh Alicia had that as her number one.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_24: Oh, okay.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_21: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_21: And I'm not gonna, no spoilers, but we'll hear about it again.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_21: Jack, did you have that on your list?
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_18: Yeah, I just love something so juicy.
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_18: Like a juice, like a um for your amusement likes to call it like a juicy sluicey.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_18: And I feel like that episode and then what happened to that, it's her I feel so bad about, but it was a juicy sluice.
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_18: It was scandalous.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it was kind of like an unsolved mystery, and you think Robert stacked there to narrate that whole episode.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_21: Greg, is that the one where you had to recreate the interview?
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_24: Yes.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_24: Yep.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_24: Yeah, we we had, yeah, I think that was the first time we ever had a major um technical snafu.
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_24: And I remember I I think I edited the episode, I wrote down all the questions, and then we had to re-record everything, and then but and she and and and Misty was so great about giving the same inflection to the answer that she originally gave.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_24: That's not easy to do when we did it in real time, and then I spliced it all together.
- 1:17:50SPEAKER_24: Yeah, but yeah, to me, I I think why it stands out is one, we were able to talk about something super current at the time and and the turnaround time that we pulled it off in, you know, like the fact that like I I remember like waking up that morning and reading all about this, you know, through Facebook and then finding her on Instagram because again, this we were not even six months old, and then getting her to commit, and then once we you know had her committed to be able to tell the story and talk about the fact that there were even more details beyond what was already out there, and it just blew all of our minds.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_24: And I just thought it made for a fantastic episode.
- 1:18:31SPEAKER_21: Mm-hmm.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_21: Mm-hmm.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_21: Yeah, it was popular.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_21: Well, Greg, you're on a roll.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_21: Why don't you give us number three?
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_21: Sure.
- 1:18:38SPEAKER_24: Uh, number three, I'm gonna I'll I'll stick with the OG, but I will lump another one into this.
- 1:18:45SPEAKER_24: Um, but I'm gonna go episode 171, our conversation with Myra.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_24: And then in theory, tack on.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_24: Yeah, you know, we just had it on a couple weeks later uh about her big surprise and getting the annual pass from our friend Andrea.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_24: But I mean, you know, we we talk about the the Run Disney community and the Rise and Run family from the perspective of the runner, and this was the first time where we were able to chat with someone who has made a profound impact who until that big surprise had never stepped foot on the race course.
- 1:19:21SPEAKER_24: And and I think that that was one of the biggest things that when we sat down to start the concept of rise and run, you know, the biggest priority that we had for this was to share the stories of positive impacts and motivation.
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_24: And my God, does that woman have droves of it just coursing through you know her body?
- 1:19:43SPEAKER_24: And the and the fact that we were able to share that story and just learn all the love and admiration that she has for this community.
- 1:19:50SPEAKER_24: Um, it it just makes it a favorite.
- 1:19:53SPEAKER_21: It was yeah, it was fun, it was great getting to know her.
- 1:19:57SPEAKER_21: We all miss her, we miss her enthusiasm and her fun.
- 1:20:01SPEAKER_21: Uh Jack, give me a number three, please.
- 1:20:04SPEAKER_18: Oh, it was Bruno.
- 1:20:06SPEAKER_21: Oh, yeah, Bruno?
- 1:20:07SPEAKER_21: Okay, cool.
- 1:20:08SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 1:20:09SPEAKER_21: Alicia has a recent one, episode 262.
- 1:20:13SPEAKER_21: We talk with Meredith about her Kilimanjaro expedition.
- 1:20:18SPEAKER_21: That was a popular episode.
- 1:20:20SPEAKER_21: That was a lot of fun.
- 1:20:21SPEAKER_21: We got great reaction to that.
- 1:20:24SPEAKER_21: Uh, John, you got a number three?
- 1:20:26SPEAKER_04: Okay, number three was episode 87, Off the Key West, running with the Keys 100 and the Star Wars Galactic Cruiser.
- 1:20:35SPEAKER_04: And it and it wasn't because of the Star Wars Galactic Cruiser.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_04: No.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_21: And and also, let's be really candid about it.
- 1:20:42SPEAKER_21: The interview was great.
- 1:20:44SPEAKER_21: What what was published, what was put out was great, but we really had more fun after we turned the microphones off.
- 1:20:51SPEAKER_04: It was also the recorder off.
- 1:20:54SPEAKER_04: Like, if they could if we could record a video for that one, it would have been great because all the facial expressions went, oh, I was doing this, and like, oh yeah.
- 1:21:02SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 1:21:02SPEAKER_21: It was that was a fun episode to record, no doubt.
- 1:21:06SPEAKER_21: Umber three is it was special, very, very special to me, and that was when Jim Ryan joined us.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_21: Jim Ryan was a a high school hero for me.
- 1:21:20SPEAKER_21: I mean, he Jim Ryan's a couple years older than me, but not a lot.
- 1:21:23SPEAKER_21: So when I was in high school and and following athletics throughout the country, Jim Ryan was one of the Jim Ryan was one of the most well-known athletes in any sport.
- 1:21:37SPEAKER_21: And the fact that I got a chance to talk with that guy really meant a lot to me.
- 1:21:41SPEAKER_21: And the fact that he was such a fun interview and such a just like Meb, such a nice man, it really meant a lot to me.
- 1:21:49SPEAKER_21: So I enjoyed that episode a whole lot.
- 1:21:51SPEAKER_21: Let's move on up.
- 1:21:52SPEAKER_21: I will start, I'll start here at the number two, and I'll I'll give you Alicia's list and my list, and our number twos are the same.
- 1:22:01SPEAKER_21: And the reason for that, I think, is we were the only two people who were able to be around in the middle of the day when this guy was available for an interview, and that's Dean Carnassus.
- 1:22:14SPEAKER_21: Yes.
- 1:22:14SPEAKER_18: That was my number two.
- 1:22:16SPEAKER_21: Was it okay?
- 1:22:18SPEAKER_21: We had we had such a good time talking with Dean.
- 1:22:23SPEAKER_21: It was it was fantastic.
- 1:22:26SPEAKER_21: Uh I really I've heard of Dean.
- 1:22:30SPEAKER_21: I we talked with him on and spoiler alert, this is going to be my number one, but we had talked with Dean at one other time.
- 1:22:40SPEAKER_21: And he he he wasn't a great interview.
- 1:22:43SPEAKER_21: Then I read his book, and we got to talk with him, and he was just he was the best.
- 1:22:47SPEAKER_21: He was absolutely the best.
- 1:22:49SPEAKER_21: Number twos, guys.
- 1:22:50SPEAKER_21: Uh Greg, what do you have?
- 1:22:53SPEAKER_24: Uh number two, I think this was on Alicia's list.
- 1:22:56SPEAKER_24: I'm going with episode 47.
- 1:23:01SPEAKER_24: Um, our first conversation with Martinez Evans.
- 1:23:04SPEAKER_21: Yeah, it was on Alicia's list.
- 1:23:05SPEAKER_21: Sure was.
- 1:23:05SPEAKER_24: Yeah, because yeah, no, he he's a great interview.
- 1:23:09SPEAKER_24: You know, the story about him just almost coming to fisticuffs with his doctor and getting really ticked off and pulling the U-turn and going into the running store.
- 1:23:22SPEAKER_24: But but I think what why it it it ranks so high up up on my list is, you know, obviously at the time of that interview and also you know the follow-up interview that we did with him uh when he released his book, you know, obviously that was before I was on my weight loss journey.
- 1:23:38SPEAKER_24: And I think that was the first time we talked to somebody who, from a running perspective and an athlete perspective, that I could resonate with.
- 1:23:49SPEAKER_24: Yeah.
- 1:23:50SPEAKER_24: You know, you know, when when you look at the running community, you know, you're you're looking at some incredible, you know, physically fit athletes.
- 1:23:58SPEAKER_24: And the fact that Martinez was able to bring that same type of energy and motivation, but being in the body that he's in, it it really spoke to me.
- 1:24:11SPEAKER_24: And and that's why it's always ranked up high very uh for me.
- 1:24:15SPEAKER_21: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:16SPEAKER_21: It was a fun interview, sure was.
- 1:24:18SPEAKER_18: I again, like I said, I would I would probably choose Dean's episode, mostly because of like when I first got interested into ultrarunning, I knew of Dean already, and this was like when did I run my first ultra?
- 1:24:34SPEAKER_18: Like 2022 or something, 2021, I'm not even sure anymore, 2020, I don't know.
- 1:24:40SPEAKER_18: But I do remember being like, wow, I saw a documentary where you ran 50 states, 50 marathons of 50 states in 50 days, and then finished it off by running back home, which I thought was wild.
- 1:24:54unknown: Right.
- 1:24:55SPEAKER_18: And I was like, wow, there's just something really cool and insane about it.
- 1:25:01SPEAKER_18: That's just amazing.
- 1:25:02SPEAKER_18: And I have his book at home way before we were ever gonna interview him, and I just was like, he would be an amazing person to meet, and unfortunately, I so hopefully someday I'll meet him.
- 1:25:13SPEAKER_21: Yeah, I haven't met him yet.
- 1:25:15SPEAKER_21: I'd love to meet him, yeah.
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_18: Yeah, John.
- 1:25:20SPEAKER_21: Did we ask you about your number two?
- 1:25:21SPEAKER_21: My number two was already mentioned.
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_21: Uh it was uh Bruno.
- 1:25:25SPEAKER_21: Okay.
- 1:25:26SPEAKER_21: Okay.
- 1:25:27SPEAKER_21: Number one episodes.
- 1:25:29SPEAKER_21: Alicia had Bruno at number one.
- 1:25:31SPEAKER_21: That's been mentioned before.
- 1:25:32SPEAKER_21: So mine I I kind of cheated, although it's it's an episode about Jeff, not Jeff's episode.
- 1:25:39SPEAKER_21: I alluded to it just a little bit before.
- 1:25:41SPEAKER_21: Uh episode 239, the tribute to Jeff Calloway.
- 1:25:46SPEAKER_21: Dean was on that.
- 1:25:47SPEAKER_21: That was I'm walking back from the gym and my phone rings, and it's hey Bob, it's Dean Carnassus.
- 1:25:54SPEAKER_21: Yeah, I goes.
- 1:25:56SPEAKER_21: We got our times mixed up.
- 1:25:57SPEAKER_21: He was in California, I'm on the East Coast.
- 1:26:00SPEAKER_21: So we we uh got Dean in there real quickly.
- 1:26:03SPEAKER_21: Uh Ambi Burfoot, Bill Rogers, Weston and Carissa Galloway, Chris Twiggs.
- 1:26:09SPEAKER_21: It meant a lot to me that they would all do that, and I thought the episode came off very, very well.
- 1:26:16SPEAKER_21: So that's my number one.
- 1:26:18SPEAKER_21: Greg?
- 1:26:19SPEAKER_24: My number one, uh, even though it's a uh it's a three-part series, I am going with uh with episode 167, and that is Podcast Family Feud the Rematch.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_21: That's fine, that's good.
- 1:26:35SPEAKER_21: Yep.
- 1:26:36SPEAKER_21: Somebody had to mention that.
- 1:26:37SPEAKER_24: Yeah, I mean, uh Bava, I I know you weren't there for that one, but I mean probably moves it up a couple spots.
- 1:26:43SPEAKER_24: Okay.
- 1:26:44SPEAKER_24: But there were just so many moments of you know, bringing up Nacho Gate, and then the fact that, like, you know, there's Doug waffling back and forth between, oh, I want to be on team will run for no, I'm gonna be on Rise and Run now.
- 1:27:01SPEAKER_24: And then the whole I think that was when we had the question about where uh like best Italian, and nobody on the team wanted to play, but only Michael wanted to play.
- 1:27:14SPEAKER_24: And he's like, I I got the answer, and he had the obvious answer of Via Napoli and just screwed the rest of the team, and then Diane is yelling at him, and then we're all in stitches, and then obviously that epic uh fast money where Tom, you know, is going to Austria, Austria, Norway, and you know, Cliff block or Cliff's blocks.
- 1:27:37SPEAKER_24: And uh, I mean I I think I mentioned a couple episodes ago, like whenever I'm in the pain cave on a run, that that is the episode I go to to uh to you know get me through the tough miles.
- 1:27:48SPEAKER_24: But and it's also special to me, too, because you know, that was the last episode um that we hear Aaron's voice.
- 1:27:56SPEAKER_24: And you know, it it it's it's It's a very I mean, I guess that's like with grief sometimes, is like, you know, you just get these random thoughts in your head.
- 1:28:06SPEAKER_24: And you know, that there are there are times that you know I do think about her, and then being able to go back to that episode and just hear her, you know, hear her voice again, it brings a smile to my face, and that's why it will always rank number one for me.
- 1:28:19SPEAKER_21: That's cool.
- 1:28:20SPEAKER_24: That's cool.
- 1:28:21SPEAKER_21: Jack.
- 1:28:22SPEAKER_18: So mine is episode number 139, because it is our first ever family feud, which started something amazing.
- 1:28:33SPEAKER_18: I almost chose the Thanksgiving Day episode.
- 1:28:36SPEAKER_18: I hope you know.
- 1:28:37SPEAKER_24: Oh, thank thanks, Jack.
- 1:28:38SPEAKER_24: I I I'm shocked this is it's taken this long for that joke.
- 1:28:42SPEAKER_18: I know.
- 1:28:42SPEAKER_24: Wait a minute.
- 1:28:43SPEAKER_24: We haven't heard from the Patreons yet.
- 1:28:45SPEAKER_24: Oh, fair enough.
- 1:28:47SPEAKER_24: Which by the way, I did look, it still is our least our most least downloaded episode.
- 1:28:52SPEAKER_04: Okay, so please upload that episode, everyone.
- 1:28:55SPEAKER_04: Let's make a pit pitch to get it over 3,000 downloads by the end of the year.
- 1:28:59SPEAKER_04: Uh okay.
- 1:29:01SPEAKER_04: My number one was already mentioned, it was Meb.
- 1:29:04SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:29:05SPEAKER_04: But high second is episode two.
- 1:29:09SPEAKER_04: That's when I joined the Cobb Podcast for the first time.
- 1:29:12SPEAKER_21: Yes, you are you are our uh Elaine.
- 1:29:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:29:16SPEAKER_21: Do you get the reference there?
- 1:29:17SPEAKER_21: Elaine was not on the pilot episode of Seinfeld.
- 1:29:21SPEAKER_21: She doesn't show up until episode two.
- 1:29:23SPEAKER_21: So John is our Elaine.
- 1:29:25SPEAKER_21: He doesn't show up till episode two.
- 1:29:26SPEAKER_04: Another little trivia fact.
- 1:29:27SPEAKER_04: Our first episode was released on a Friday.
- 1:29:31SPEAKER_04: Oh, the 22nd was a Friday?
- 1:29:33SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 1:29:34SPEAKER_04: That year?
- 1:29:34SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 1:29:35SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:29:36SPEAKER_04: Because I looked it up.
- 1:29:37SPEAKER_04: I looked it up, and because I was in where was I?
- 1:29:41SPEAKER_04: I was in Universal.
- 1:29:42SPEAKER_24: That that we Universal, yeah.
- 1:29:44SPEAKER_04: And I was listening to it on the plane ride home.
- 1:29:47SPEAKER_21: All right.
- 1:29:48SPEAKER_21: All right.
- 1:29:49SPEAKER_21: I asked our Patreon friends if they would uh list theirs and uh and they did, and they followed that same uh caveat, that same rule of uh Jeff, Brittany, and Chris, we kind of put them in a different category.
- 1:30:09SPEAKER_21: And here's what they came up with.
- 1:30:10SPEAKER_21: We had uh 10 responses, responses of ten different people and they named 36 different episodes.
- 1:30:18SPEAKER_21: Now if you think about it, if each ten of them did five unique episodes, that's fifty.
- 1:30:25SPEAKER_21: So the fact that they came up with 36 different episodes tells me that there was an interest across the board.
- 1:30:33SPEAKER_21: So we had a bunch of ties, of course, and we end up with I end up with seven uh episodes here because there are four tied for fourth place.
- 1:30:44SPEAKER_21: We've mentioned most of them, but not all of them.
- 1:30:47SPEAKER_21: We've mentioned Kilimanjaro, mentioned Dean, mentioned Bruno Spibs, none of us mentioned the balloon ladies.
- 1:30:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:30:58SPEAKER_04: I was kind of luminoed up with with Jeff and Chris and all those guys.
- 1:31:03SPEAKER_21: Oh, okay.
- 1:31:04SPEAKER_21: They're tied for second.
- 1:31:07SPEAKER_21: Myra, Myra's episode's tied for second.
- 1:31:10SPEAKER_21: Another one that we didn't mention is John Hughes, the two episodes we did with the Disney history with John Hughes.
- 1:31:19SPEAKER_21: And the Patreon's number one, and I lumped all of these together, whether they said there were three different episodes, I lumped them all together, were the family feud episodes.
- 1:31:30SPEAKER_21: That was our Patreon's number one.
- 1:31:32SPEAKER_21: Five years, friends.
- 1:31:34SPEAKER_21: That was a lot of fun, a lot of good episodes in there.
- 1:31:37SPEAKER_21: Thank you for being a part of all of it.
- 1:31:40SPEAKER_23: Caution runners, change of topic ahead.
- 1:31:44SPEAKER_21: All right, friends, before we roll into the race report, I want to remind you, especially those of you friends who are heading to Run Disney for the first time, wine and dine.
- 1:31:56SPEAKER_21: First of all, it's Thursday.
- 1:31:58SPEAKER_21: Look around.
- 1:31:59SPEAKER_21: I'm getting in on Wednesday.
- 1:32:01SPEAKER_21: John's getting in on Wednesday.
- 1:32:02SPEAKER_21: Jack, uh, do you know when you plan to be over there?
- 1:32:05SPEAKER_18: I plan on going on Thursday after work just to visit.
- 1:32:09SPEAKER_21: You're going to go over to the expo on Thursday, are you, Jack?
- 1:32:11SPEAKER_18: Yeah, just for a visit after work.
- 1:32:13SPEAKER_18: That's cool.
- 1:32:13SPEAKER_21: Um I should be there in the morning.
- 1:32:16SPEAKER_21: Because, like I said, we arrived to Disney World on Wednesday.
- 1:32:19SPEAKER_21: So I should be at the expo Thursday morning.
- 1:32:21SPEAKER_21: That's when we'll be there.
- 1:32:23SPEAKER_21: We'll be looking for you.
- 1:32:24SPEAKER_21: Alicia's there already.
- 1:32:26SPEAKER_21: So, well, already being Monday, so Alicia will be there on Thursday as well.
- 1:32:31SPEAKER_21: Uh friends, before the races, now the 5K, we don't know for sure how it's going to work, but before the races, we have always gotten together as you come into Epcot, you go through security and you head back to where the folks are gathering before they go into the corrals.
- 1:32:50SPEAKER_21: As you look forward, there's a stage area.
- 1:32:54SPEAKER_21: There are on either side of the stage, there are photo opportunities.
- 1:32:58SPEAKER_21: In front of that stage, a good 40 or 50 yards back, are a row of bleachers.
- 1:33:04SPEAKER_21: As you're looking at the stage, we hang out on the left side of those bleachers.
- 1:33:09SPEAKER_21: So if you want to meet up with us before the races, that's where we will be.
- 1:33:14SPEAKER_21: On Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock, uh, I've mentioned it every episode for the last couple episodes, and I'll have somebody message me uh over the weekend asking, hey Bob, when's the meetup?
- 1:33:26SPEAKER_21: The meetup is at 3 o'clock.
- 1:33:27SPEAKER_21: And I don't care.
- 1:33:28SPEAKER_21: You want to message me?
- 1:33:29SPEAKER_21: I don't care.
- 1:33:30SPEAKER_21: I answer patiently every time.
- 1:33:31SPEAKER_21: It's in the food truck area of Disney Springs.
- 1:33:35SPEAKER_21: That is, as you're looking at the big hot air balloon, it is just to your left, just to the left of Starbucks there.
- 1:33:42SPEAKER_21: 3 o'clock startup.
- 1:33:44SPEAKER_21: We're always there a little bit early.
- 1:33:47SPEAKER_21: Becky's been in production with a bunch of our friends here.
- 1:33:51SPEAKER_21: We have I don't know how many dozens of dozens of cookies waiting to be there.
- 1:33:57SPEAKER_21: Hope you'll be there and join up with us.
- 1:33:59SPEAKER_21: 3 30 p.m.
- 1:34:00SPEAKER_21: We take a group photo, and we will probably be there till around 4 30 or 5 o'clock.
- 1:34:07SPEAKER_21: Again, really hope to see you there.
- 1:34:10SPEAKER_21: Uh, next Zoom meeting is next Thursday, the Thursday after Wine and Dine weekend.
- 1:34:18SPEAKER_21: And now, please stand clear of the door.
- 1:34:24SPEAKER_21: It's time for a race report.
- 1:34:32SPEAKER_21: The race report, sponsored by our good friend Thomas Stokes of Stoked Metabolic Training, Stokes.fit slash rise and run coaching.
- 1:34:43SPEAKER_21: For more, or we could just talk to Tom because he's right here.
- 1:34:48SPEAKER_21: Hiya, Tom.
- 1:34:49SPEAKER_21: Welcome back to the welcome back to the podcast.
- 1:34:52SPEAKER_21: Glad to have me as always.
- 1:34:53SPEAKER_21: Oh, yeah.
- 1:34:54SPEAKER_21: It's fun, Tom.
- 1:34:55SPEAKER_21: It's good.
- 1:34:56SPEAKER_21: Now, uh, you just wrapped up a four-week challenge here that you had leading into wine and dine.
- 1:35:03SPEAKER_21: You want to recap it for us and tell us how it went?
- 1:35:07SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it was uh, you know, another fantastic challenge.
- 1:35:09SPEAKER_05: I usually do six-week challenges, new years, and summer.
- 1:35:13SPEAKER_05: It's it's just it's been the cadence for for quite some since this thing was born.
- 1:35:18SPEAKER_05: And I I found out that the people I'm currently work with, I currently working with, they just love the darn challenges.
- 1:35:25SPEAKER_05: They like to lock in for an extra four weeks, and I said, you know what?
- 1:35:28SPEAKER_05: I don't have enough on my plate.
- 1:35:30SPEAKER_05: Let's just let's just go for four weeks.
- 1:35:32SPEAKER_05: I know that's go.
- 1:35:33SPEAKER_05: We'll open it up.
- 1:35:33SPEAKER_05: It was kind of a last minute thing, and it turned out met met some amazing people during it, as always.
- 1:35:38SPEAKER_05: So it was you had some pretty big numbers.
- 1:35:42SPEAKER_05: That was a lot of a lot of my current people and then some fresh faces was was fantastic.
- 1:35:48SPEAKER_21: I think the first zoom I logged on to, I think you had 90 plus people there.
- 1:35:53SPEAKER_05: I think we had yeah, we had a good amount on that one.
- 1:35:56SPEAKER_05: That was definitely a big one.
- 1:35:57SPEAKER_05: But you know, peep people fade, but I'm happy to say this challenge, you did not fade.
- 1:36:04SPEAKER_21: No, I I needed I knew I needed to take it seriously.
- 1:36:07SPEAKER_21: And although in the last week or two I've faded back a little bit, uh uh mentally, um mentally I'm still with you.
- 1:36:15SPEAKER_21: And as soon as this weekend gets out of the way, I'm I'm back to the three days at the gym because and I've said this to our friends at the top of all the race report spotlights.
- 1:36:27SPEAKER_21: I start to feel the difference.
- 1:36:28SPEAKER_21: You start to feel the difference after a couple of weeks.
- 1:36:31SPEAKER_21: I know John has worked at some point on it, and he he said the same thing.
- 1:36:34SPEAKER_21: I know Jack will tell you the same thing, as she would anyway, if she were here.
- 1:36:38SPEAKER_21: Uh now look uh edit that out, Greg.
- 1:36:41SPEAKER_21: I shouldn't have said that.
- 1:36:42SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 1:36:43SPEAKER_21: Uh yeah, I know Jack would tell you the same thing.
- 1:36:45SPEAKER_21: So I I always I always tell our friends, Tom, that it's a good program and you put a whole lot of effort into it.
- 1:36:52SPEAKER_21: You know what you're doing and it is worthwhile.
- 1:36:55SPEAKER_21: Any highlights from the challenge that you want to talk about?
- 1:36:59SPEAKER_05: Any I could probably be bull, I could probably bore you guys with a hundred different highlights, but I got I I want to just give it up to the to the grant, the the winner of the challenge this time.
- 1:37:11SPEAKER_05: Yes, please.
- 1:37:12SPEAKER_05: Because when I first started this thing, man many moons ago, I guess we'll say, uh, one of my the first people I worked with in the virtual space was a wonderful woman named Tiffany.
- 1:37:23SPEAKER_05: She was one of the winners of the prior challenge.
- 1:37:26SPEAKER_05: And her friend saw the difference and said, I gotta see what the heck you're talking about.
- 1:37:31SPEAKER_05: I'm like, I'm gonna try this challenge.
- 1:37:33SPEAKER_05: And and that led me to meet a wonderful woman, Kayla McDermott.
- 1:37:39SPEAKER_05: Oh, she owns a farm called Old McDermott's farm, which I like you already because you own a farm.
- 1:37:46SPEAKER_05: And uh, you know, they do hay rides and all that fun stuff.
- 1:37:49SPEAKER_05: And she came in when we had our first conversation, you know, she had she had torn her patella tendon right before she was set to run her second dopey, um, gained gained some weight through all that.
- 1:38:02SPEAKER_05: After that, I want to say she had gone up 60 pounds and and was really, you know, had a busy life.
- 1:38:09SPEAKER_05: She's got she's running a farm, she's got a bunch of kiddos, and really said, I just want to be able to get back to the start line.
- 1:38:17SPEAKER_05: And I I I don't know that I'll ever be able to do that.
- 1:38:21SPEAKER_05: And doubted her, Kayla.
- 1:38:23SPEAKER_05: You doubted yourself every bit of the way.
- 1:38:25SPEAKER_05: And then watching her face when I said that she was a winner, she dropped 13 pounds in four weeks, which I'll be the first to say that is not common.
- 1:38:34SPEAKER_05: I look for, you know, if we're if we're doing things right, one to two pounds a week.
- 1:38:37SPEAKER_05: Now somebody who has might have some extra some more to lose may see more come off faster.
- 1:38:43SPEAKER_05: But oh well, well, I was in that category.
- 1:38:45SPEAKER_05: You were about 13 pounds yourself.
- 1:38:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but I had I was yeah, there's a reason for that.
- 1:38:51SPEAKER_05: You were you were having the the cookies from from the uh the meetup.
- 1:38:56SPEAKER_05: But you know, 13 pounds, that that was just phenomenal.
- 1:38:59SPEAKER_05: And she she said, I think I'm gonna be able to, you know, start running again sooner rather than later.
- 1:39:05SPEAKER_05: And I was like, Well, let's go.
- 1:39:07SPEAKER_05: Let's and every time I get I she she prior to the prior to the challenge, she had started with me on a one-to-one basis, um, maybe about a week before the challenge.
- 1:39:17SPEAKER_05: She goes, What is this?
- 1:39:18SPEAKER_05: What is this challenge you're doing?
- 1:39:19SPEAKER_05: I said, You just kind of walked into it because I let all my current people do it.
- 1:39:24SPEAKER_05: You guys are all part of it.
- 1:39:25SPEAKER_05: I explained it to her.
- 1:39:25SPEAKER_05: She goes, All right, well, sign me up.
- 1:39:27SPEAKER_05: Like, you're you're already in.
- 1:39:29SPEAKER_05: You're in, yeah.
- 1:39:30SPEAKER_05: And she just she put in the work.
- 1:39:32SPEAKER_05: And I mean, you guys have all crossed finish lines.
- 1:39:35SPEAKER_05: You know, when you put in the work, you get the results.
- 1:39:37SPEAKER_21: That's right.
- 1:39:38SPEAKER_21: That's right.
- 1:39:38SPEAKER_21: Very true.
- 1:39:39SPEAKER_21: We talk about that for training for the runs all the time.
- 1:39:41SPEAKER_21: All right, Tom, here we go.
- 1:39:43SPEAKER_21: This is the question we as you at the end of this, you just finished.
- 1:39:47SPEAKER_21: You go, you just put this one to bed.
- 1:39:49SPEAKER_21: Now you still have your your training programs, you still have your one-on-one coaching, and you still have your accelerate program, which is a a group program.
- 1:39:58SPEAKER_21: Group format, yeah.
- 1:39:59SPEAKER_21: Yeah, highly, highly recommended.
- 1:40:01SPEAKER_21: Both of them, the information is on that uh Facebook page I told you about.
- 1:40:05SPEAKER_21: Stokes.fit slash rise and run coaching.
- 1:40:07SPEAKER_21: I only say it every week, so I should know that.
- 1:40:10SPEAKER_21: Uh, so that information is there.
- 1:40:13SPEAKER_21: Uh, so what else is next?
- 1:40:14SPEAKER_21: What's what's what else is next?
- 1:40:17SPEAKER_05: You know, uh thing things I encourage the people I work with to do, stay focused on their goals.
- 1:40:22SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna stay focused on mine for the next couple months.
- 1:40:25SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna wrap up.
- 1:40:26SPEAKER_05: I'm just coming off Chicago, I'm gonna wrap up wine and dine, I'm gonna wrap up New York, and um, we're gonna enjoy the holiday season with the missus, but then January, there's always a January challenge.
- 1:40:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah, gotta get through dopey first with that one.
- 1:40:41SPEAKER_21: Yeah, but that's right.
- 1:40:42SPEAKER_21: I'm I'm I'm laughing.
- 1:40:43SPEAKER_21: That's not you're dead serious, yeah.
- 1:40:46SPEAKER_21: Because that that takes all your attention for sure.
- 1:40:50SPEAKER_21: Well, it's a lot, it's a lot, and I wouldn't change a thing about it.
- 1:40:53SPEAKER_21: No, I wouldn't either.
- 1:40:55SPEAKER_21: Look forward to seeing you there.
- 1:40:56SPEAKER_21: Well, Tom, we're always grateful when you come by to visit with us and tell us about what's going on with Stoked Metabolic Training.
- 1:41:02SPEAKER_21: But hey, you know, you ran Chicago, right?
- 1:41:05SPEAKER_21: Yes, sir.
- 1:41:06SPEAKER_21: Well, you want to hang around a little bit?
- 1:41:08SPEAKER_21: We're going to talk about the Chicago Marathon here.
- 1:41:10SPEAKER_21: Sound good?
- 1:41:11SPEAKER_21: I haven't stopped talking about it.
- 1:41:13SPEAKER_21: Let's go.
- 1:41:14SPEAKER_21: Well, well, now wait a minute.
- 1:41:15SPEAKER_21: I got some other friends who have joined us but who may want to get a word in edgewise.
- 1:41:20SPEAKER_21: So, Catherine and Dorothy, welcome to the podcast.
- 1:41:24SPEAKER_19: Hello.
- 1:41:25SPEAKER_19: Thanks for having us.
- 1:41:26SPEAKER_21: You're welcome.
- 1:41:27SPEAKER_21: Thank you for taking the time to join us, and congratulations to all three of you on a successful world major.
- 1:41:36SPEAKER_21: You know, we we've got to the point where we have so many friends who are taking on the world majors that we uh we have to pare down the number of people who we talk to afterwards.
- 1:41:49SPEAKER_21: So no pressures, but you're representing everybody in Rise and Run who ran the Chicago Marathon.
- 1:41:54SPEAKER_21: You good with that?
- 1:41:55SPEAKER_21: Sounds good.
- 1:41:57SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:41:59SPEAKER_04: All right, thank you.
- 1:42:00SPEAKER_04: Okay, so you guys all ran the Chicago Marathon.
- 1:42:03SPEAKER_04: Catherine, is this your first?
- 1:42:04SPEAKER_12: This was my fifth may uh marathon, but it was my first uh world major.
- 1:42:10SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:42:10SPEAKER_04: Well, what made you think about running?
- 1:42:12SPEAKER_12: All my friends were signing up to do all the world majors, and so I said, you know what, let me throw my hat in.
- 1:42:17SPEAKER_12: Uh and it was my first time entering the lottery, and I got it.
- 1:42:21SPEAKER_12: And I found out by my credit card statement being charged.
- 1:42:25SPEAKER_12: So I was super excited and it kind of made me have the bug.
- 1:42:30SPEAKER_12: And I actually started taking training seriously because before I was just more of a casual runner.
- 1:42:35SPEAKER_12: Um, and you know, if I skipped a run here or there, it didn't really matter to me.
- 1:42:39SPEAKER_12: I just would do my long runs.
- 1:42:40SPEAKER_12: Um, but I went five months without missing a single um scheduled run.
- 1:42:46SPEAKER_12: So five days a week, and I was doing 35 to 40 miles and uh, you know, making sure my nutrition was good and all the things that you're supposed to do.
- 1:42:55SPEAKER_12: So I took, you know, advantage of the opportunity I was given.
- 1:42:59SPEAKER_04: Good for you.
- 1:43:00SPEAKER_04: Dorothy, uh, how about you?
- 1:43:02SPEAKER_19: So this is the second time I've run Chicago.
- 1:43:04SPEAKER_19: Um, it's the only world major I've done.
- 1:43:07SPEAKER_19: And after uh after the marathon weekend 2025, I said, no more marathons.
- 1:43:14SPEAKER_19: That's it.
- 1:43:14SPEAKER_19: That was my third, I was done.
- 1:43:16SPEAKER_19: But instead of signing up for a marathon, I'm just gonna put my name in the lottery.
- 1:43:21SPEAKER_19: I'll put my name in for all the world majors, and if I get in, then that's the running fates telling me that this is my destiny.
- 1:43:28SPEAKER_19: Um, so I I wasn't gonna put in for Chicago, but my friend wanted to, so I said I'll do it again.
- 1:43:34SPEAKER_19: And I got in and she didn't.
- 1:43:35SPEAKER_19: So I'm in Chicago again.
- 1:43:38SPEAKER_04: Okay, Tom, I know this was not on your radar, right?
- 1:43:42SPEAKER_04: This was something that you came up later?
- 1:43:45SPEAKER_05: This was not on my radar.
- 1:43:47SPEAKER_05: So five marathons deep, all dopeies.
- 1:43:50SPEAKER_05: And about this time last year, I was sitting at the tune-in lounge and New York Marathon came onto my radar and there was a charity available.
- 1:43:57SPEAKER_05: So I said, Oh yeah, I got a year to train.
- 1:43:59SPEAKER_05: I'm in good hands with uh Twigs.
- 1:44:01SPEAKER_05: Let's go, New York Marathon.
- 1:44:03SPEAKER_05: Turns out wine and dine's the week before, so let's do that too.
- 1:44:07SPEAKER_05: And then about two months ago, I got reached out to by the great people at St.
- 1:44:11SPEAKER_05: Jude's, and unfortunately, somebody had an injury and they said, Hey, we've got a bib.
- 1:44:15SPEAKER_05: Want it?
- 1:44:16SPEAKER_05: So hustled to raise them the funds and and yeah, two never did oral major before, and here we go.
- 1:44:24SPEAKER_05: Two in three weeks.
- 1:44:25SPEAKER_20: Let's hope I get the next one.
- 1:44:28SPEAKER_20: Two in three weeks with Disney in the middle.
- 1:44:30SPEAKER_20: We'll we'll survive.
- 1:44:32SPEAKER_20: Something like that.
- 1:44:32SPEAKER_24: Yeah.
- 1:44:33SPEAKER_24: All right, folks.
- 1:44:34SPEAKER_24: Well, before we actually get into the logistics of the race itself, you know, you got to pick up your bib first.
- 1:44:39SPEAKER_24: So, you know, you you all head down to McCormick Place, massive convention center for the Chicago Expo.
- 1:44:46SPEAKER_24: Dorothy, I'm gonna start with you.
- 1:44:48SPEAKER_24: What highlights did you find outside of you know, just you know, your typical merch and vendors and uh and picking up your bib?
- 1:44:56SPEAKER_24: Anything fun and exciting uh down at the expo?
- 1:44:59SPEAKER_19: They were handing out free bananas.
- 1:45:00SPEAKER_19: The Chiquita had had a place for uh free bananas, and I had purchased one to bring with me on the plane.
- 1:45:07SPEAKER_19: So I was like, well, that's I should didn't need to do that um for my banana.
- 1:45:12SPEAKER_24: What does an airplane banana go for these days?
- 1:45:14SPEAKER_24: I'm I'm I'm curious.
- 1:45:16SPEAKER_19: Um, I don't know.
- 1:45:17SPEAKER_19: I got a green one hoping that it would be yellow by the time it was Sunday.
- 1:45:20SPEAKER_19: It it was a failure, but oh no.
- 1:45:25SPEAKER_19: Um, but the the expo is so like, yes, it's huge, yes, it's a world major, but it was so efficient.
- 1:45:32SPEAKER_19: I was in line for maybe 30 seconds before they scanned my QR code.
- 1:45:36SPEAKER_19: And then when I got assigned to a table to get my bib, I was there for maybe a minute and a half.
- 1:45:41SPEAKER_19: Like it was so efficient.
- 1:45:43SPEAKER_19: It was so easy.
- 1:45:45SPEAKER_19: Um yeah, it was just the tons of tons of merch, tons of lines for for merch, um, lots of Nike stuff.
- 1:45:55SPEAKER_19: The thing the things that I had, the finisher shirt um and one of the pullovers that sold out in the women's, but I was able to purchase it online and have it arrive a day after I got home.
- 1:46:05SPEAKER_24: So I well speaking of the the Nike merch, Tom, I'm gonna move to you next year because you're actually wearing some of the merch right now uh for this interview.
- 1:46:14SPEAKER_24: I have to ask, what is your opinion?
- 1:46:16SPEAKER_24: Because I I saw lots of photos of our friends wearing the merch.
- 1:46:20SPEAKER_24: Why do you think Nike decided to draw inspiration from the Haunted Mansion for their merch for the Chicago Marathon?
- 1:46:27SPEAKER_05: Because the Haunted Mansion is one of the best rides out there, it's top tier.
- 1:46:30SPEAKER_05: Come on.
- 1:46:32SPEAKER_05: But yes, I did think it was a very interesting design choice, but then I uh I did some reading up and and you know it was all historic Chicago was was baked into it.
- 1:46:43SPEAKER_05: So I trust the artist more than I trust myself on that stuff.
- 1:46:46SPEAKER_05: I just like the way it looked.
- 1:46:48SPEAKER_24: And I I was following you on Instagram.
- 1:46:50SPEAKER_24: It looks like there were some pretty hefty lines, especially for for the Mikey Nike merch.
- 1:46:54SPEAKER_05: So I'm used to the Run Disney expos, which which are big, and this was overwhelming.
- 1:47:00SPEAKER_05: It was overwhelming for me.
- 1:47:02SPEAKER_05: And I think I just I at that particular location at the expo, I grabbed a t-shirt, was like, I have to have something, I have to get something before I leave here, and I don't remember.
- 1:47:13SPEAKER_05: I I just kind of blacked out, but the lines were efficient, kind of like Dorothy said, like it was everything moved and grooved.
- 1:47:19SPEAKER_05: I was expecting a big weight for a lot of stuff.
- 1:47:22SPEAKER_05: It was fast.
- 1:47:23SPEAKER_24: All right, so this is good practice for you for New York uh in two weeks.
- 1:47:27SPEAKER_24: So you'll be physically and mentally prepared.
- 1:47:30SPEAKER_24: You to back me up.
- 1:47:32SPEAKER_24: Yeah, yeah, right.
- 1:47:33SPEAKER_24: There you go.
- 1:47:34SPEAKER_24: I'll I'll be your muscle in case anyone tries to tell you for some new balance merch or something like that.
- 1:47:39SPEAKER_24: Uh, but Catherine, you know, wrap wrap up the expo here for us.
- 1:47:43SPEAKER_12: I agree.
- 1:47:44SPEAKER_12: I think Disney was helped me be well prepared.
- 1:47:47SPEAKER_12: I love to eat, and carb loading is something I will always struggle with because I don't and tend to eat a lot because I'm trying to get to the expo and get all the things done.
- 1:47:58SPEAKER_12: And so I brought a bag and I just had all the carbs that I could eat was in that bag.
- 1:48:05SPEAKER_12: Um, and I just stuffed it with random food.
- 1:48:07SPEAKER_12: And so throughout the whole time, I just kept making sure to eat my snacks along the way so that I was well carb loaded for Sunday.
- 1:48:13SPEAKER_12: Because that's what happens at Disney is I get to Disney and then I'm waiting in those lines and I'm starting to get grumpy because I'm hungry and all the things.
- 1:48:22SPEAKER_12: So I learned from Disney and I was well stocked for that.
- 1:48:27SPEAKER_12: And I thought it was very fast.
- 1:48:29SPEAKER_12: I luckily was kind of um like Tom.
- 1:48:32SPEAKER_12: I got a shirt and I think a pullover at Nike, but I wanted to go to another store where I get discounts or rewards from.
- 1:48:40SPEAKER_12: And so I got all my finisher stuff from there so I could rack it up because it was so expensive.
- 1:48:45SPEAKER_12: But I wanted everything.
- 1:48:46SPEAKER_12: It was the first world major, so it was like I need it all.
- 1:48:50SPEAKER_12: And so, um, and I've actually been rocking it.
- 1:48:53SPEAKER_12: Sorry, rocking it.
- 1:48:54SPEAKER_12: Um showing my age, but I've been wearing it and everything.
- 1:48:57SPEAKER_12: And that was always my question.
- 1:48:58SPEAKER_12: It was like, am I gonna get all this stuff and it's just gonna hang out in my closet?
- 1:49:02SPEAKER_12: I've been making sure to wear it.
- 1:49:03SPEAKER_12: And in Texas, we got some cold mornings right now, and so it's perfect for all the quarter zips and everything.
- 1:49:09SPEAKER_12: So I enjoyed my time.
- 1:49:11SPEAKER_21: Well, that's great.
- 1:49:12SPEAKER_21: Well, look, let's uh race is Sunday, right?
- 1:49:16SPEAKER_21: Let's pick it up.
- 1:49:17SPEAKER_21: Let's let's just talk through the start a little bit from the hotel to the start line, first couple miles.
- 1:49:25SPEAKER_21: Tom, how'd that go for you?
- 1:49:26SPEAKER_05: So I was, you know, I I'm gonna rewind a bit if you if you don't mind, but I was sitting with the uh Galloway group on Saturday night, and Amy shared a Amy from Galloway, um, she shared a message from the Galloway team just take it calm, take it easy, take it, don't get swept up in the chaos and get the runners' excitement and just go, go, go.
- 1:49:49SPEAKER_05: I got the memo and then I forgot the memo when they said go.
- 1:49:53SPEAKER_05: Imagine that.
- 1:49:54SPEAKER_05: I was just out the gate and and the energy is so unreal that I can.
- 1:50:00SPEAKER_05: Completely threw away all training, all plan, and and was was out.
- 1:50:05SPEAKER_05: I had regrets shortly thereafter, but it was absolute insanity.
- 1:50:09SPEAKER_05: It was so much fun that the city's electric.
- 1:50:12SPEAKER_21: You you weren't that guy who gets up in the front and sprints out and for the first quarter of a mile leads the elites or anything like that, were you?
- 1:50:20SPEAKER_21: No, no, no.
- 1:50:21SPEAKER_21: But I felt like I was chasing him for some reason.
- 1:50:23SPEAKER_21: You ever see somebody?
- 1:50:24SPEAKER_21: I've seen that happen before.
- 1:50:26SPEAKER_21: Guys get out there and just go hard as they can.
- 1:50:30SPEAKER_21: And for the first hundred yards, they're leading the marathon, then they die.
- 1:50:33SPEAKER_21: Catherine, have you seen that?
- 1:50:35SPEAKER_12: That was me.
- 1:50:36SPEAKER_12: I was at the front of Corral G and I had my elite moment.
- 1:50:40SPEAKER_12: I took off and I was see could see the photographers on the bridge, and there was no one around me.
- 1:50:45SPEAKER_12: And I was like, this is the coolest moment of my life.
- 1:50:48SPEAKER_12: And I tell feels like just me and the marathon.
- 1:50:52SPEAKER_12: Um but yeah, I did regret it.
- 1:50:56SPEAKER_12: I was, I think, throwing up at the mile five marker.
- 1:50:59SPEAKER_12: Oh no.
- 1:50:59SPEAKER_12: Um, and yep, and felt sick pretty much the rest of the way.
- 1:51:04SPEAKER_12: But I shaved 15 minutes off my my marathon time from December, so I can't complain too much.
- 1:51:10SPEAKER_21: Is that a PR?
- 1:51:12SPEAKER_12: It was a PR.
- 1:51:13SPEAKER_21: There you go.
- 1:51:15SPEAKER_21: All right.
- 1:51:16SPEAKER_21: Well, at least you recovered.
- 1:51:17SPEAKER_21: Good for you.
- 1:51:18SPEAKER_21: Dorothy, were you leading the marathon at any point?
- 1:51:21SPEAKER_19: Zero points was I leading the marathon.
- 1:51:23SPEAKER_21: Well, you're probably smarter.
- 1:51:27SPEAKER_19: Yeah, I was, I did, I wasn't maybe one or two people back from the start of Corral N.
- 1:51:33SPEAKER_19: I feel like Disney has trained me to kind of get there at the beginning.
- 1:51:38SPEAKER_19: And when I I didn't think I was that early, but I was early enough.
- 1:51:41SPEAKER_19: Um I left the hotel maybe 6 45.
- 1:51:45SPEAKER_19: Um, and it was about a mile walk.
- 1:51:47SPEAKER_19: Um and I got there and got into corral N, and there's only like one or two people ahead of me.
- 1:51:52SPEAKER_19: So I hung out with some new friends, saw some people in Disney merch um waiting to get started.
- 1:51:59SPEAKER_19: So we started just after nine.
- 1:52:00SPEAKER_19: I started just after nine.
- 1:52:02SPEAKER_04: Let's talk about the course.
- 1:52:03SPEAKER_04: I know the course was very exciting.
- 1:52:05SPEAKER_04: You're running through Chicago, all the landmarks, like a lot of entertainment, I heard, and how many keg stands did you guys do out there?
- 1:52:13SPEAKER_19: I did none, once again.
- 1:52:16SPEAKER_19: I did witness people doing a couple of keg stands, but I kept kept kept on running.
- 1:52:23SPEAKER_21: I I can picture Tom doing one.
- 1:52:25SPEAKER_21: I don't know.
- 1:52:25SPEAKER_05: I did not see the keg, but I was coming through a neighborhood that was just an av right when you need it, when you're dying the most, like there was an at one neighborhood that was just so full of energy and amazing signs.
- 1:52:38SPEAKER_05: Bless the people with the signs.
- 1:52:40SPEAKER_05: And the guy's like, guy just yells at me, he says, How you feeling?
- 1:52:43SPEAKER_05: I'm like, We're dying out here.
- 1:52:45SPEAKER_05: And he goes, Well, take this.
- 1:52:46SPEAKER_05: And he threw a threw a can of Miller Light at me.
- 1:52:48SPEAKER_05: And I was like, you know what?
- 1:52:50SPEAKER_05: On the road once.
- 1:52:52SPEAKER_21: That's pretty good.
- 1:52:54SPEAKER_05: And we walked for a bit after that.
- 1:52:56SPEAKER_05: Nothing wrong with that.
- 1:52:59SPEAKER_04: Were the hands were the hands good?
- 1:53:00SPEAKER_04: You you caught it?
- 1:53:01SPEAKER_21: Oh, yeah.
- 1:53:02SPEAKER_21: We we caught it.
- 1:53:04SPEAKER_21: But but uh in general, in general, Dorothy, how was the course?
- 1:53:07SPEAKER_21: What were some of the highlights of it for you?
- 1:53:10SPEAKER_19: Yeah, I think um, you know, obviously it was warm.
- 1:53:13SPEAKER_19: It was um went from a yellow flag to a red flag um at about 10 30.
- 1:53:18SPEAKER_19: So I was at mile six and I knew it was gonna be warm, but I live in Atlanta and was, you know, kind of trained for warm.
- 1:53:25SPEAKER_19: Um could have been worse.
- 1:53:28SPEAKER_19: I feel like Saturday was a little bit warmer and Monday was for sure warmer.
- 1:53:32SPEAKER_19: So like Sunday was the best out of the three days.
- 1:53:35SPEAKER_19: Still a little toasty.
- 1:53:37SPEAKER_19: Um, but the crowd support is so energetic and there is not, you know, there is not a stretch of time where you are just alone in your thoughts.
- 1:53:48SPEAKER_19: You have plenty of things to look at and signs to read and people cheering for you.
- 1:53:52SPEAKER_19: I wore my name on my shirt and just had so many people commenting and saying go Dorothy, or they recognized that I had done it in a Disney font.
- 1:54:00SPEAKER_19: So they were like, you know, they were commenting on Disney or commenting on my sparkle skirt.
- 1:54:06SPEAKER_19: Like it was just so energetic.
- 1:54:09SPEAKER_19: Um it was really just just pulling you through, even when it got to even when it got warm.
- 1:54:17SPEAKER_21: Uh nice, that's great.
- 1:54:18SPEAKER_21: Now, Catherine, you had a little trouble in the beginning.
- 1:54:22SPEAKER_21: How'd you manage?
- 1:54:22SPEAKER_21: How'd you recover?
- 1:54:24SPEAKER_21: And again, how about some highlights from the course for you?
- 1:54:27SPEAKER_12: So I think one really cool thing um that I didn't mention about the expo is that they have the pace tattoos that you can get.
- 1:54:35SPEAKER_12: But the only problem was is I was gonna shoot for a specific time and they didn't have that time or the three after it, like to go slower.
- 1:54:46SPEAKER_12: They only had the one before.
- 1:54:48SPEAKER_21: Oh no.
- 1:54:49SPEAKER_12: So I that morning I tattooed it on me and I kept pace with that until mile 18.
- 1:54:58SPEAKER_21: Okay.
- 1:54:58SPEAKER_12: And that's when I got um really sick and I had to uh go off the course for a second.
- 1:55:05SPEAKER_12: Um, but I was really proud to be able to, the crowds and the water stops to be able to help get me through all the way.
- 1:55:15SPEAKER_12: I was so surprised.
- 1:55:16SPEAKER_12: Um, I was getting messages and stuff from my friends, and I would see their names pop up and I couldn't, I didn't want to see their messages, but I just knew that they were sending encouragement.
- 1:55:25SPEAKER_12: And I did actually pop on and uh my coach he was, you know, saying, like, wow, you're doing so good, like on our group chat.
- 1:55:32SPEAKER_12: And I was like, like, oh my gosh, like I'm really doing this.
- 1:55:35SPEAKER_12: I'm in a world major and like I'm beating my time um up until mile 18.
- 1:55:42SPEAKER_12: But um the crowds were just so awesome, and my family was there and they were originally they were like, we're just gonna see you kind of close to the finished, and that changed and they went to five different spots to see me.
- 1:55:54SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 1:55:55SPEAKER_12: So that was that extra boost that I needed, you know, they helped carry me along.
- 1:56:01SPEAKER_12: And towards the end, I was uh, it was I think mile like 23, 24, and I wasn't able to take any of my um nutrition after mile 18.
- 1:56:12SPEAKER_12: And so they had salt sticks and I was like, yes, electrolytes, give it to me.
- 1:56:16SPEAKER_12: And I tried to grab it.
- 1:56:18SPEAKER_12: I was not as good and I wouldn't have caught it even if it was beer.
- 1:56:21SPEAKER_12: Um, I did not catch the salt sticks whenever she I was trying to get it out of her hands and it fell and I just kept running because I knew if I turned around or bent down, I just it was gonna go off my you know, running.
- 1:56:33SPEAKER_12: And so the girl from Salt Sticks picked it up and ran up to me and met me to make sure that I got that.
- 1:56:40SPEAKER_12: And that was just a very sweet moment because I was like, I needed it, but there was no turning back.
- 1:56:46SPEAKER_12: So um that was just one of the things towards the late, because honestly, some of them I'm like, I don't even remember those miles uh towards the end, but I remember that.
- 1:56:56SPEAKER_21: Tom, how about high course highlights?
- 1:56:58SPEAKER_21: What did what did you remember about the course?
- 1:57:00SPEAKER_21: What showed up special for you?
- 1:57:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mentioned earlier I came out the gate hot and I had the headphones on and I was in the zone.
- 1:57:07SPEAKER_05: And about two miles in when I said I gotta get out of that that zone, I gotta just enjoy the race.
- 1:57:12SPEAKER_05: I pulled the headphones off.
- 1:57:14SPEAKER_05: I threw them in the pocket, they never came out again.
- 1:57:15SPEAKER_05: Sorry to everybody that was trying to give me holler hypes, but they came off, and I and I I started to really enjoy the course, and I was just there were so many dogs.
- 1:57:24SPEAKER_05: Dogs are always a highlight.
- 1:57:26SPEAKER_21: Yeah, dogs are good.
- 1:57:28SPEAKER_05: Seeing a very unexpected sign from a friend, Michael does Disney and Matthew, that and their little and their little one, they had a sign for me, which I was not expecting, and that one all that one brought a little tears.
- 1:57:40SPEAKER_05: And you know, it was there was just always something to see.
- 1:57:44SPEAKER_05: There was always something going on.
- 1:57:46SPEAKER_05: There was no empty highway miles, which I'm looking forward to this coming weekend, but it was just I I I didn't know, you know, I I wasn't running with a bunch of people I know like I normally do, but I felt like I knew everyone.
- 1:58:00SPEAKER_21: I like that.
- 1:58:01SPEAKER_21: And yeah, we'll have some quiet highway miles this weekend.
- 1:58:04SPEAKER_21: You won't get them next weekend.
- 1:58:06SPEAKER_21: No back in New York.
- 1:58:08SPEAKER_24: Wonderful hearing all of the the highlights and the the beer, the beer highlights uh you know throughout the course of this race.
- 1:58:16SPEAKER_24: But let's get the piezta restance here.
- 1:58:19SPEAKER_24: Catherine, tell us about the euphoria of crossing that finish line.
- 1:58:24SPEAKER_12: It was amazing.
- 1:58:26SPEAKER_12: It was emotional.
- 1:58:27SPEAKER_12: I was so excited.
- 1:58:30SPEAKER_12: I mean, I didn't quite know my time at that point, but I was just so proud of myself and honestly thankful to all the people I have around me that kind of supported me because that one day was a culmination of the five months that we had been put into that.
- 1:58:48SPEAKER_12: Whether it was the early miles before work, the late nights after work, um, all the girl talks while running.
- 1:58:56SPEAKER_12: Um, you know, there was just so many special moments and they all just kind of played back when the lady was putting the metal around my neck.
- 1:59:06SPEAKER_12: Um and it was just a very special moment, and I can't wait um to make more of these.
- 1:59:13SPEAKER_12: And it makes me more excited to get to Disney in January um to see everybody again.
- 1:59:19SPEAKER_24: Excellent.
- 1:59:20SPEAKER_24: Dorothy, what was your experience?
- 1:59:22SPEAKER_19: I tried really hard to be positive at the end, and I'm 99% was.
- 1:59:28SPEAKER_19: Um, my goal, I had an A goal of 6:30, which is the course time limit.
- 1:59:33SPEAKER_19: Um, but my B goal was to finish ahead of the pace car because when I ran in in 2023, the pace car passed me with eight miles to go and I finished just over seven hours.
- 1:59:42SPEAKER_19: Um, so I kept looking for the pace car.
- 1:59:44SPEAKER_19: And even though I slowed down a little bit the last half, um, I was still trugging along right at a 15-minute pace, and I felt good and I felt like I was, you know, I never bonked.
- 1:59:54SPEAKER_19: I never just like completely hit a wall, was like, I can't do this anymore.
- 1:59:58SPEAKER_19: Um, and I knew that whenever I saw the pace car coming up behind me, I could sprint to the end, right?
- 2:00:03SPEAKER_19: Like I had a a little bit of sprint left.
- 2:00:05SPEAKER_19: Um, but the pace car never passed me.
- 2:00:08SPEAKER_19: But they closed the finish line right before me.
- 2:00:11SPEAKER_19: So instead of getting so instead of getting to go down the, you know, the regular chute and get the metal around my head or my neck and go into Grant Park and um you know get a picture by the fountain or whatever, they kind of veered you off to the left.
- 2:00:25SPEAKER_19: And I could see them closing it.
- 2:00:26SPEAKER_19: I was like, but the pace car hasn't passed me.
- 2:00:28SPEAKER_19: What is happening?
- 2:00:29SPEAKER_19: Um and based off of what I can tell, like from some people who dead last started and and the pace car, even though they say it's 6 30, it looks like they cut it at about 627.
- 2:00:39SPEAKER_19: Um so that was a little bit busy.
- 2:00:41SPEAKER_24: I'm so sorry.
- 2:00:42SPEAKER_24: Yeah, yeah, it is.
- 2:00:45SPEAKER_19: But I still had a 30-minute PR.
- 2:00:48SPEAKER_19: So I was capable of doing on that day on a hot day.
- 2:00:52SPEAKER_19: Like, could I did I leave some seconds on the course?
- 2:00:55SPEAKER_19: Yes.
- 2:00:55SPEAKER_19: Could I have picked a better bathroom line at mile five?
- 2:00:58SPEAKER_19: Yes, right.
- 2:00:59SPEAKER_19: Like, could I have, yes, but I still got a 30-minute PR.
- 2:01:04SPEAKER_19: And I was still super, super excited and proud of myself for that and recovered really well.
- 2:01:09SPEAKER_19: Like, I, you know, probably wasn't the most nimble of Sunday night, but Monday I was good enough to walk down to the bean.
- 2:01:17SPEAKER_19: I went to the Sky Deck, I was able to like recover well and and um feel good after that.
- 2:01:22SPEAKER_19: So that's a huge um accomplishment for me as well.
- 2:01:26SPEAKER_24: Awesome.
- 2:01:27SPEAKER_24: Congratulations.
- 2:01:28SPEAKER_24: We're so incredibly proud of you.
- 2:01:30SPEAKER_19: Thank you, Tom.
- 2:01:32SPEAKER_24: What's it like, number one, crossing the finish line of a world major?
- 2:01:37SPEAKER_24: But two, doing it with a shirt on and not wearing a uh tutu.
- 2:01:43SPEAKER_05: Crossing the so I mean five marathons, all dopeies.
- 2:01:47SPEAKER_05: I mentioned that, but I I look back and I remembered being the kid that couldn't run a mile in high school and hating that and being the sick kid that you know I was fake sicking every time we had that presidential fitness test.
- 2:02:00SPEAKER_24: Oh, I hated that thing.
- 2:02:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I hated it.
- 2:02:02SPEAKER_05: And you know, I wasn't always a fit guy, and it always comes back as I cross that finish line, but this one was just extra, it was just extra special.
- 2:02:12SPEAKER_05: It was, you know, brought back that those tears from the first one where I was like, this is this is incre I never fathomed being able to, you know, that I'd be somebody that did that.
- 2:02:25SPEAKER_05: And you know, then the wheels started started turning.
- 2:02:28SPEAKER_05: I was like, oh my god, New York's next, and this is gonna be become a really expensive freaking habit.
- 2:02:33SPEAKER_05: Um it is you know, time time to start leaving the country, and it was very weird not doing it in the in a tutu.
- 2:02:41SPEAKER_05: Um, I didn't have my fellow tutu guy there with me, so it's it's it's tutu guys, and you know, I had somebody feel you're wearing a costume, you're wearing a costume.
- 2:02:50SPEAKER_05: I'm like, no, I just want to go focus on the race this time.
- 2:02:52SPEAKER_05: I don't want to make it.
- 2:02:53SPEAKER_05: And then I got to the expo and chicken legs had these beautiful short shorts, and I was like, I I can't deny who I am, okay?
- 2:03:02SPEAKER_05: So I got a ridiculous outfit at the expo.
- 2:03:05SPEAKER_21: What's up next, guys?
- 2:03:07SPEAKER_21: Uh, I know what's up next for you, Tom.
- 2:03:09SPEAKER_21: Uh Disney and then New York.
- 2:03:12SPEAKER_21: Dorothy, how about you?
- 2:03:14SPEAKER_19: So I'm doing the wine and dine challenge and the 10k and half, which isn't a challenge, but for marathon weekend.
- 2:03:21SPEAKER_19: Um, springtime.
- 2:03:23SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 2:03:24SPEAKER_21: So and the way this works, so I'll see you later today at the expo.
- 2:03:29SPEAKER_19: Yes, yes, you will.
- 2:03:31SPEAKER_21: Catherine, you're not heading to Disney till January, right?
- 2:03:35SPEAKER_12: Correct.
- 2:03:35SPEAKER_12: I'll be uh doing my third dopey challenge um this coming January.
- 2:03:42SPEAKER_12: Um, and then I'll be racing in Dallas in December.
- 2:03:46SPEAKER_12: So uh at the BMW, I'll just be doing a half.
- 2:03:50SPEAKER_12: And so we'll see if I can PR from last year.
- 2:03:54SPEAKER_21: Only I think only Disney runners say things like just the marathon or just the half, because we have all these challenges.
- 2:04:02SPEAKER_21: It's unique to uh our little our little subculture.
- 2:04:07SPEAKER_21: Well, friends, thank you for taking the time to join us.
- 2:04:09SPEAKER_21: Congratulations on a great Chicago marathon.
- 2:04:12SPEAKER_21: Uh we're glad you were y'all three PR'd, right?
- 2:04:15SPEAKER_21: All three of you.
- 2:04:16SPEAKER_21: Yeah, that's outstanding.
- 2:04:19SPEAKER_21: Proud of you.
- 2:04:20SPEAKER_21: Thanks for joining us on the podcast, and we look forward to seeing you real soon.
- 2:04:24SPEAKER_12: Thank you for having us.
- 2:04:26SPEAKER_12: Thanks for having us.
- 2:04:27SPEAKER_21: All right.
- 2:04:28SPEAKER_21: We talked to Tom, we recapped Chicago.
- 2:04:32SPEAKER_21: Now let's get into the race report and let's start on Saturday.
- 2:04:37SPEAKER_21: Might as well start in Kissimmee, Florida for the Rise and Run 5K.
- 2:04:43SPEAKER_24: Bob, when you arrived at that race, did you hand them the cease and desist letter or no?
- 2:04:50SPEAKER_21: It's kind of cute.
- 2:04:52SPEAKER_21: I don't really know if they know who we are.
- 2:04:57SPEAKER_21: I wouldn't be surprised by that.
- 2:04:59SPEAKER_21: I don't think they do.
- 2:05:00SPEAKER_21: But uh, we had a nice group.
- 2:05:02SPEAKER_21: We had about 10 people there.
- 2:05:03SPEAKER_21: I was there, Jack was there, Mary and her daughters, Roxanne, Kayla, Jessica, Heather, and Jason were all there.
- 2:05:12SPEAKER_21: We are undefeated in winning the Team Spirit Award.
- 2:05:15SPEAKER_21: And again, I think we win the Team Spirit Award because they like our name.
- 2:05:20SPEAKER_21: In fact, that's what they said.
- 2:05:21SPEAKER_21: Oh, we love giving it because their name is just like ours.
- 2:05:25SPEAKER_21: Okay, well, thank you.
- 2:05:26SPEAKER_21: Uh, but thanks to our friends who were there.
- 2:05:28SPEAKER_21: We had it first.
- 2:05:29SPEAKER_21: We had it first.
- 2:05:30SPEAKER_21: We did actually.
- 2:05:31SPEAKER_21: Uh let's see.
- 2:05:33SPEAKER_21: Mary's daughter, Donna, ran a PR.
- 2:05:37SPEAKER_21: Jessica ran a PR also.
- 2:05:40SPEAKER_21: She she didn't sign up till 11 o'clock on Friday.
- 2:05:44SPEAKER_21: Doesn't normally run intervals, but she stuck with us at the start, and we ran some easy intervals.
- 2:05:51SPEAKER_21: I mean, I drove a hundred miles to run a 5K at a very easy pace.
- 2:05:56SPEAKER_21: I'm not complaining because I was there with my friends.
- 2:05:58SPEAKER_21: That was fun, but Jessica P.
- 2:06:01SPEAKER_21: Heather, of course, was first place wheels.
- 2:06:04SPEAKER_21: And man, they gave her a nice trophy.
- 2:06:07SPEAKER_21: It really was.
- 2:06:08SPEAKER_21: Looked very nice.
- 2:06:09SPEAKER_21: I know she was excited by it.
- 2:06:11SPEAKER_21: So there you go.
- 2:06:13SPEAKER_21: Friends, next year, I with 10 people there.
- 2:06:18SPEAKER_21: I think our I think our team size was eight, because I think they cut off registrations for teams the night before or 48 hours ahead.
- 2:06:29SPEAKER_21: Uh, the biggest team there was 21.
- 2:06:32SPEAKER_21: I'd like to see if we can challenge for the team prize.
- 2:06:35SPEAKER_21: That would be pretty good.
- 2:06:36SPEAKER_21: So, all right.
- 2:06:38SPEAKER_21: But it was it's a fun event.
- 2:06:39SPEAKER_21: Nice, flat, weather was great.
- 2:06:41SPEAKER_21: We all had a good time.
- 2:06:42SPEAKER_21: There was a spooky sprint, 5K, 10k and half in Del Val, Texas.
- 2:06:48SPEAKER_21: Derek ran the half.
- 2:06:50SPEAKER_21: In Carmel, Indiana, Sarah ran a half at the Indiana Women's Running Festival, but almost a decade since she last ran that race.
- 2:06:58SPEAKER_21: Uh, a little bit of road, a little bit of paved trails, beautiful fall scenery along the way.
- 2:07:04SPEAKER_21: Attempts in the 30s to start, but sunshine made for perfect racing weather.
- 2:07:08SPEAKER_21: Finished with a PR and a proof of time.
- 2:07:13SPEAKER_21: I I love reading, friends, about the weather turning.
- 2:07:17SPEAKER_21: Um then those temperatures.
- 2:07:19SPEAKER_21: I still chuckle a little bit because we're excited.
- 2:07:22SPEAKER_21: I got up this morning and it was 68.
- 2:07:24SPEAKER_21: Oh boy, it was cool.
- 2:07:27SPEAKER_21: Uh, big event in Baltimore, the Baltimore Running Festival.
- 2:07:30SPEAKER_21: Let's see, they have different distances.
- 2:07:32SPEAKER_21: Kristen ran the 10K.
- 2:07:36SPEAKER_21: Uh Amanda ran the half.
- 2:07:39SPEAKER_21: She said she fundraised to get her daughter an adaptive push chair.
- 2:07:44SPEAKER_21: They got it just in time for the race.
- 2:07:46SPEAKER_21: Of course it's really hilly, but uh they crushed her eggle of sub three hours, which really seemed way out of reach, but they did it.
- 2:07:57SPEAKER_21: So good job, Amanda.
- 2:07:58SPEAKER_21: Avery was there, and let's see, they also run a uh relay.
- 2:08:04SPEAKER_21: Oh no, not a relay, a challenge, which they call the Balta Moronathon.
- 2:08:11SPEAKER_21: No, Balta Moron-athon.
- 2:08:13SPEAKER_21: That's it.
- 2:08:14SPEAKER_21: The Balta Balta Moron-a-thon.
- 2:08:16SPEAKER_21: It's the 5k and a half.
- 2:08:18SPEAKER_21: Patrick and Jennifer did that.
- 2:08:20SPEAKER_24: I know she didn't submit a race report, but I saw also at that weekend our friend uh Diana from the World Run for podcast.
- 2:08:26SPEAKER_24: She ran the marathon of that event um after just doing Berlin not too long ago.
- 2:08:32SPEAKER_24: And she she got a PR in Berlin and then she PR'd here at Baltimore, you know, just a couple of weeks after Berlin.
- 2:08:38SPEAKER_24: So way to go, Diana, even though I know for a fact she won't be listening to this.
- 2:08:43SPEAKER_21: Uh let's see, let's go out to Wichita, Kansas for the WSU, Wichita State University Pumpkin Run.
- 2:08:51SPEAKER_21: Lena was there.
- 2:08:52SPEAKER_21: Rob was in Framingham, Massachusetts for Jack's Abbey United Way 5K, a great little local race.
- 2:09:00SPEAKER_21: Travels through downtown Framingham and the adjoining neighborhoods.
- 2:09:04SPEAKER_21: Pleased with his finish time, just a little over 25 minutes, not a PR.
- 2:09:09SPEAKER_21: Good for 78th out of 377 overall, and a really outstanding pace, Rob.
- 2:09:15SPEAKER_21: Congratulations on that.
- 2:09:17SPEAKER_21: Our buddy Jack was in Haddonfield, New Jersey for the Jonas Cattell Memorial 10 mile run.
- 2:09:25SPEAKER_21: Elizabeth was doing part one of the I-35 challenge in Kansas City, Missouri.
- 2:09:34SPEAKER_21: Missouri, Missouri.
- 2:09:36SPEAKER_21: Anyway, Kansas City, Missouri, the Garmin, Kansas City Half Marathon.
- 2:09:42SPEAKER_21: Lessa did the Bridge Day 5K in Fayetteville, West Virginia.
- 2:09:48SPEAKER_21: And then did the Sweat for the Vets 5K run walk in Bristol, Tennessee.
- 2:09:54SPEAKER_21: I wasn't sure that that was right in my look, but those places are about a three-hour drive apart.
- 2:09:59SPEAKER_21: So it's possible, so I'm sure she did it.
- 2:10:04SPEAKER_21: In Claremont, Florida, also over not far from Disney World, the great Floridian 15K.
- 2:10:13SPEAKER_21: Desiree did that.
- 2:10:15SPEAKER_21: Her first 15K, that's a PR.
- 2:10:20SPEAKER_21: Is helping her train for her first half marathon, which she's going to do during marathon weekend.
- 2:10:26SPEAKER_21: She helped others check in in the morning of the race.
- 2:10:29SPEAKER_21: Loves meeting fellow runners.
- 2:10:32SPEAKER_21: Heather's dad, Heather, who rolled the 5K with us in Kissimmee.
- 2:10:37SPEAKER_21: Her dad, Stuart, ran the 5K in Claremont.
- 2:10:41SPEAKER_21: And I believe finished uh I believe he had an age group finish in that one.
- 2:10:46SPEAKER_21: So good job, Stuart.
- 2:10:49SPEAKER_21: Carrie was in Charlotte, North Carolina for the haunted half.
- 2:10:53SPEAKER_21: She was in North Carolina for a wedding.
- 2:10:56SPEAKER_21: So she signed up just 16 hours before the race.
- 2:11:00SPEAKER_21: Scenery was beautiful.
- 2:11:01SPEAKER_21: Felt pretty good considering Chicago was just six days ago.
- 2:11:07SPEAKER_21: The hills were a bit tough, especially on that last out and back.
- 2:11:11SPEAKER_21: Small race.
- 2:11:12SPEAKER_21: They have a cute mummy medal.
- 2:11:15SPEAKER_21: I've s carry, I've seen that medal before.
- 2:11:18SPEAKER_21: Not exactly, but the running mummy.
- 2:11:20SPEAKER_21: It's it's cute.
- 2:11:22SPEAKER_21: Back to North Carolina for the Charlotte Runway 5K.
- 2:11:25SPEAKER_21: Denise, what a fun run on the Charlotte runway.
- 2:11:29SPEAKER_21: Why they could hear the planes taking off and landing.
- 2:11:32SPEAKER_21: There are planes waiting to take off on their runway right after the run.
- 2:11:38SPEAKER_21: Run faster.
- 2:11:40SPEAKER_21: Started out with rain, but they stopped just in time for the race.
- 2:11:43SPEAKER_21: What a great and unique 5K.
- 2:11:45SPEAKER_21: Ryan was there, said it started cold and rainy, ended up being nice.
- 2:11:49SPEAKER_21: Uh the kids have been able to do this two years in a row, and it's a blast.
- 2:11:55SPEAKER_21: Anna was there.
- 2:11:56SPEAKER_21: Anna says the energy was sky high once they were.
- 2:12:00SPEAKER_21: Cleared for takeoff.
- 2:12:01SPEAKER_21: She is just plain proud of this race.
- 2:12:05SPEAKER_21: And then she apologized for all the aviation-related puns.
- 2:12:09SPEAKER_21: It's okay.
- 2:12:09SPEAKER_21: It was pretty clever, and I imagine that, Bob.
- 2:12:12SPEAKER_04: Flight 265, uh, you're ready for takeoff after that runner clears the uh runway.
- 2:12:17SPEAKER_21: Yeah, you're number you're number two behind runner 1248.
- 2:12:21SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 2:12:21SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 2:12:22SPEAKER_21: Uh for Anna, no PR, but uh Garmin says she ran her fastest mile at the end.
- 2:12:27SPEAKER_21: That's always impressive.
- 2:12:29SPEAKER_21: Cheryl was there also at this race.
- 2:12:32SPEAKER_21: Michael was in Akron, Ohio for Gordy's pumpkin run 5K at Credit Union Park.
- 2:12:38SPEAKER_21: Now he thought about trying for a PR, but changed his mind when he saw how big the field was.
- 2:12:43SPEAKER_21: Started in the second to last corral.
- 2:12:45SPEAKER_21: Heard someone say that there were more than 5,000 runners and walkers out there.
- 2:12:50SPEAKER_21: That's a good-sized event.
- 2:12:52SPEAKER_21: Uh started out slowly until things started to stretch out, lean out a little bit, then he got into a rhythm, and he still knocked out a nine-second PR.
- 2:13:03SPEAKER_21: Okay, this one's on Saturday.
- 2:13:04SPEAKER_21: I'm pretty sure there was a 10K at Richardson Farm in Northern Illinois.
- 2:13:09SPEAKER_21: Tiffany says, now Tiffany did Tiffany did the 10K.
- 2:13:13SPEAKER_21: You start with a 5K around the grounds on the farm, which is actually really pretty with a loop around a small lake.
- 2:13:21SPEAKER_21: Then you head into a corn maze for the last 5K.
- 2:13:25SPEAKER_21: Now the maze was marked, so you couldn't get lost, but it was still tough with all the tight turns.
- 2:13:31SPEAKER_21: Tiffany finished age group third place.
- 2:13:35SPEAKER_21: Laura did just the 5K.
- 2:13:37SPEAKER_21: They sent them through first.
- 2:13:39SPEAKER_21: They sent them through individually at two second intervals.
- 2:13:43SPEAKER_21: Uh even though it was crazy, it was actually pretty fun, and it sounds like it was.
- 2:13:48SPEAKER_21: Let's see, the Mary's Place 5K took place in Ocean Grove, New Jersey.
- 2:13:53SPEAKER_21: Kelly and her husband, Bob, were there, cold and windy in Jersey.
- 2:13:58SPEAKER_21: Served as great motivation to run faster.
- 2:14:01SPEAKER_21: And Bob did got a new 5K PR.
- 2:14:05SPEAKER_24: Is it not that Bob?
- 2:14:07SPEAKER_24: No, this is Bob, or is it you or no?
- 2:14:10SPEAKER_21: One me.
- 2:14:11SPEAKER_21: You know what's funny about that?
- 2:14:13SPEAKER_21: Let me let me wrap up here.
- 2:14:14SPEAKER_21: Bob gets his PR.
- 2:14:15SPEAKER_21: He shaves more than a minute off his previous record, but asking your qu answering your question, Greg, the thing that's interesting is about, oh, I'd say 18 months ago, I was the only Bob in the group.
- 2:14:26SPEAKER_21: Interesting.
- 2:14:27SPEAKER_21: Now there were Roberts and Robbs and Robbie's, but I was the only guy who was listed in the group as Bob.
- 2:14:33SPEAKER_21: Now, oh, there's got to be half a dozen of us at least.
- 2:14:36SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 2:14:38SPEAKER_21: Including Kelly's husband.
- 2:14:40SPEAKER_21: I think we're finishing up Saturday in Huntsville, Alabama, the Liz Hurley ribbon run.
- 2:14:46SPEAKER_21: Judy did it, ran her best 5K time since she broke her toe last year.
- 2:14:53SPEAKER_21: Most importantly, before the 5K, the event started with a survivor's walk.
- 2:14:58SPEAKER_21: Huge shout out to any survivors in the Rise and Run community.
- 2:15:03SPEAKER_21: And there are quite a few, more than more than even I know.
- 2:15:07SPEAKER_21: You are strong, you are beautiful, and you are warriors, and we love and respect you all.
- 2:15:12SPEAKER_21: So thank you, Judy.
- 2:15:14SPEAKER_21: Over the weekend, our friend from uh hashtag Rundope, Paula, participated in the 30-hour ultra marathon, the ghost train trail races in Brookline, New Hampshire.
- 2:15:28SPEAKER_21: Didn't get a report, but we've heard about that race before.
- 2:15:31SPEAKER_21: Yes, we have.
- 2:15:32SPEAKER_21: Yeah, I think our friend uh Allie did ran it.
- 2:15:37SPEAKER_21: And then I think sometimes she participates in it as a uh spooky act actor or something.
- 2:15:43SPEAKER_21: I'm not positive of that part.
- 2:15:44SPEAKER_24: Oh, yeah.
- 2:15:45SPEAKER_24: Allie is in watching her social media, she is in her glory right now in her full-fledged uh spooky scare season.
- 2:15:52SPEAKER_21: Yeah, good stuff.
- 2:15:54SPEAKER_21: Now here's a big one the Detroit Free Press Marathon Weekend.
- 2:15:58SPEAKER_21: The international marathon, which you go across the bridge into Windsor, I believe, and then come back through the tunnel to Detroit.
- 2:16:09SPEAKER_21: So let's start with that marathon.
- 2:16:12SPEAKER_21: Brian did it.
- 2:16:13SPEAKER_21: As a local, it's great to see the participants from across the world come to this thing.
- 2:16:17SPEAKER_21: Uh, this year the crowds were great.
- 2:16:20SPEAKER_21: The last half mile was full of so many people that it gave the those of you who were running and were sucking it up on that last half mile, the crowds gave you their extra boost.
- 2:16:34SPEAKER_21: Uh, Brian ran the marathon in four hours 30 minutes and celebrated with a Coney dog.
- 2:16:40SPEAKER_21: Doug did this race for the fourth year.
- 2:16:42SPEAKER_21: He said the cool weather was perfect.
- 2:16:44SPEAKER_21: He finished a few minutes last faster than last year.
- 2:16:48SPEAKER_21: Uh Pam ran it.
- 2:16:50SPEAKER_21: Michelle ran it with her sister, Michelle's first marathon outside of Disney.
- 2:16:55SPEAKER_21: Both of them PR'd.
- 2:17:00SPEAKER_21: Shout out to the amazing crowds, volunteers, officers, and all of the event staff.
- 2:17:06SPEAKER_21: Now, Nicole did what's called the Supreme Challenge.
- 2:17:11SPEAKER_21: The one mile and 5K races on Saturday, then the full marathon on Sunday.
- 2:17:16SPEAKER_21: So she ran the one miler with her five-year-old daughter Sophie, the 5K with her eight-year-old daughter Clara, who plays second in her age group.
- 2:17:26SPEAKER_21: Wow.
- 2:17:27SPEAKER_21: It's uh Nicole's first time doing the full here in Detroit, her second marathon ever.
- 2:17:35SPEAKER_21: She stayed with the five-hour pacers as long as she could, got a huge energy boost and hugs from her family at mile 19, finished strong at 5.07.
- 2:17:44SPEAKER_21: That is a 98-minute PR.
- 2:17:50SPEAKER_21: Holy cow.
- 2:17:52SPEAKER_18: Wow.
- 2:17:52SPEAKER_18: That's amazing.
- 2:17:53SPEAKER_21: That's the value of training and you know, determination.
- 2:17:58SPEAKER_21: And great job.
- 2:18:00SPEAKER_21: Great job, Nicole.
- 2:18:01SPEAKER_21: Great job.
- 2:18:01SPEAKER_21: Everyone who finished the marathon.
- 2:18:02SPEAKER_21: The half is also an international half.
- 2:18:05SPEAKER_21: Cool race.
- 2:18:06SPEAKER_21: Riley says this is a cool race.
- 2:18:08SPEAKER_21: Nothing like running over the bridge to Canada at sunrise.
- 2:18:12SPEAKER_21: And then seeing downtown Detroit all lit up and sparkling.
- 2:18:17SPEAKER_21: Crowd support on both sides of the river was phenomenal.
- 2:18:21SPEAKER_21: And others said this too.
- 2:18:22SPEAKER_21: The Canadians seemed to be especially friendly on their side, calling out runners by name as they cheered.
- 2:18:28SPEAKER_21: The Canadians staying on brand, huh?
- 2:18:31SPEAKER_21: Bringing it home for the Canadians.
- 2:18:33SPEAKER_21: Nice job.
- 2:18:33SPEAKER_21: But we I read a lot of that.
- 2:18:35SPEAKER_21: The crowds were great on both sides, but noticeably even more so in Canada.
- 2:18:42SPEAKER_21: Now, Riley actually started the race 15 minutes late because traffic was so bad getting into the city, but she made it and got to run a fun race on a beautiful day.
- 2:18:52SPEAKER_21: Allie and Matt ran together.
- 2:18:56SPEAKER_21: Number of people that showed up everywhere to cheer on the runners was incredible.
- 2:18:59SPEAKER_21: They printed your bib with your preferred name and big letters so people could see them and cheer you on.
- 2:19:06SPEAKER_21: Christy.
- 2:19:08SPEAKER_21: Christy says, without my friends cheering me on before the race and Elise keeping her going during the first seven miles, she wouldn't have made it.
- 2:19:18SPEAKER_21: I think you might have, Christy.
- 2:19:20SPEAKER_21: You're pretty determined, but I get the support was phenomenal.
- 2:19:24SPEAKER_21: Glad she kept going.
- 2:19:25SPEAKER_21: Beautiful day for her run, and the pre- and post-race VIP experience provided by Run Detroit was outstanding.
- 2:19:33SPEAKER_21: Katie was at this race.
- 2:19:34SPEAKER_21: Ryan was there as a two-hour and 30-minute pacer.
- 2:19:38SPEAKER_21: Stephanie was there.
- 2:19:41SPEAKER_21: Steph did her first.
- 2:19:43SPEAKER_21: This is another Steph.
- 2:19:44SPEAKER_21: We have a Stephanie and a Steph.
- 2:19:45SPEAKER_21: Steph did her first half marathon ever and her longest run ever.
- 2:19:50SPEAKER_21: So that's a that's a PR.
- 2:19:53SPEAKER_21: She finished it with the two friends that got her into running.
- 2:19:56SPEAKER_21: She'd been warned that the tunnel, which is the world's only underwater mile for running, returning to Detroit was brutal.
- 2:20:03SPEAKER_21: She was mentally prepared for it, but she was surprised.
- 2:20:06SPEAKER_21: Wasn't as bad as she expected.
- 2:20:08SPEAKER_21: Overall, great experience, especially as a Canadian that has spent her entire life crossing these borders more times than she can count.
- 2:20:17SPEAKER_21: Steph can't wait to do it again.
- 2:20:19SPEAKER_21: So that's that excellent run in Detroit and in Canada, the international half and full marathon.
- 2:20:26SPEAKER_21: Let's go to Charlottesville, Virginia for the shelter for help in emergency 5K.
- 2:20:32SPEAKER_21: David ran that.
- 2:20:34SPEAKER_21: Vanessa ran the Orca Running Lake, Washington half marathon in Kirkland, Washington.
- 2:20:41SPEAKER_21: Misty Rain with one downpour.
- 2:20:44SPEAKER_21: That sounds like Pacific Northwest weather.
- 2:20:49SPEAKER_21: Beautiful course with some trail and some urban running.
- 2:20:57SPEAKER_21: Alicia will hear it, Vanessa, I promise.
- 2:21:00SPEAKER_21: And Vanessa's friend Renee crushed the half marathon.
- 2:21:05SPEAKER_21: Still on Sunday now in Austin, Texas, Derek did the Daisy-10K.
- 2:21:11SPEAKER_21: Up not terribly far from John and Greg.
- 2:21:15SPEAKER_21: The Atlantic City Marathon in New Jersey.
- 2:21:18SPEAKER_21: That's a big event every year.
- 2:21:19SPEAKER_21: That's the biggest uh running event in Jersey.
- 2:21:22SPEAKER_21: I I think it's one of the longest running.
- 2:21:26SPEAKER_21: There's a couple down there, yeah, Bob.
- 2:21:28SPEAKER_21: I don't know which one it is, but yeah.
- 2:21:29SPEAKER_21: I think the AC marathon's the biggie.
- 2:21:31SPEAKER_21: Uh great life uh Pete Pete was there.
- 2:21:34SPEAKER_21: Pete said it's a great race.
- 2:21:36SPEAKER_21: Uh minimal hills.
- 2:21:38SPEAKER_21: This year there was less time on the boardwalk than normal due to construction in Ventner.
- 2:21:43SPEAKER_21: Everybody knows Ventner Avenue from Monopoly, right?
- 2:21:47SPEAKER_23: Absolutely.
- 2:21:48SPEAKER_21: Uh the race was really well supplied with fluids and fuel in the second half.
- 2:21:53SPEAKER_21: Three minutes faster than last year, despite a tough headwind.
- 2:21:57SPEAKER_21: And you get down near the shore, the winds can get tough.
- 2:22:01SPEAKER_21: Avery was there, ran the half marathon.
- 2:22:04SPEAKER_21: Kayla was in Riverside, California for the mission in run 10K.
- 2:22:10SPEAKER_21: They updated the course, preserved its challenging hills and scenic sections, while adding a water stop complete with candy corn.
- 2:22:20SPEAKER_21: How appropriate.
- 2:22:22SPEAKER_21: Now she paused at an hour twenty to find her family and then finished in an hour thirty-six, beating her hour forty-five goal.
- 2:22:30SPEAKER_21: Good job.
- 2:22:31SPEAKER_21: Crossed the finish line three times on the 10K.
- 2:22:34SPEAKER_21: She rushed her 10K, her husband's 5K, and her son's kids race over the weekend.
- 2:22:43SPEAKER_21: There was a tunnel to towers 5K in Wall Township, New Jersey.
- 2:22:49SPEAKER_21: Kelly and Bob again.
- 2:22:51SPEAKER_21: We talked about them earlier this week.
- 2:22:54SPEAKER_21: This race report.
- 2:22:55SPEAKER_21: It's an emotional race from beginning to end, as you might imagine.
- 2:22:59SPEAKER_21: Community support was amazing.
- 2:23:01SPEAKER_21: Tons of free food after the race from local caterers and restaurants.
- 2:23:11SPEAKER_21: In Paramus, the Terry Romer Paramus run.
- 2:23:17SPEAKER_21: You had the Marty Romer Memorial 10K that started at 9 a.m.
- 2:23:21SPEAKER_21: Our buddy Rob did this one.
- 2:23:24SPEAKER_21: Johnny's blaming you for something here.
- 2:23:27SPEAKER_21: Yes.
- 2:23:28SPEAKER_21: Go ahead.
- 2:23:29SPEAKER_24: What happened was I ran with Here's the thing.
- 2:23:33SPEAKER_04: Here's the thing.
- 2:23:34SPEAKER_04: So back in July 4th, I ran with Rob and his uh son and his friend Pete.
- 2:23:41SPEAKER_04: Pete's first 5K.
- 2:23:43SPEAKER_04: He's like, oh, this is great.
- 2:23:44SPEAKER_04: I go, Rob, he's gonna run bird at hand with this next year.
- 2:23:49SPEAKER_23: Yeah.
- 2:23:51SPEAKER_04: Pete goes, nah, nah, nah.
- 2:23:53SPEAKER_04: Next day he tells Rob, I got a 10K parameters.
- 2:23:57SPEAKER_04: You want to do it?
- 2:23:57SPEAKER_21: That's it.
- 2:23:58SPEAKER_04: That's it.
- 2:23:59SPEAKER_21: That's exactly it.
- 2:24:00SPEAKER_21: Now Rob was happy with his 10K time, just a little over 52 minutes 30 seconds, which is very solid time.
- 2:24:07SPEAKER_21: Uh Cooper, which is, I believe that's Rob's grandson.
- 2:24:13SPEAKER_21: Yeah, he worked hard all summer with Rob, did a fantastic job.
- 2:24:17SPEAKER_21: They ran you know 40-30 intervals.
- 2:24:18SPEAKER_21: It's Cooper's first ever 5K, obviously a PR.
- 2:24:23SPEAKER_21: And then Pete broke 57 minutes for his first ever 10K.
- 2:24:28SPEAKER_21: That's outstanding.
- 2:24:29SPEAKER_21: And of course, a PR.
- 2:24:33SPEAKER_21: Rob says here.
- 2:24:34SPEAKER_21: Getting his grandson, son-in-law, and Christopher in the 5K.
- 2:24:37SPEAKER_21: Before you knew it, his wife had uh stroller number one with grandson number three, daughter had number two with number two, Pete's wife had number three with their and his sister.
- 2:24:48SPEAKER_21: Anyway, it was a family affair.
- 2:24:50SPEAKER_21: I messed that up somewhere, but it was a family affair.
- 2:24:54SPEAKER_21: So Rob was there, Greg, who is Rob's son-in-law, was there, and we already talked about Cooper being there.
- 2:25:01SPEAKER_04: I was planning on doing this race if it wasn't the week before wine and dine.
- 2:25:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 2:25:08SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 2:25:08SPEAKER_04: That's your story, and you're sticking to it?
- 2:25:10SPEAKER_04: That's where I got my my my my proof of time last time for a 10K.
- 2:25:15SPEAKER_04: For the like, I don't want to go out and hurt myself.
- 2:25:19SPEAKER_04: I would be stuffed.
- 2:25:20SPEAKER_04: I'd I'd do something stupid.
- 2:25:23SPEAKER_04: No way.
- 2:25:24SPEAKER_04: No way.
- 2:25:25SPEAKER_21: Yes.
- 2:25:26SPEAKER_21: Let's move on to Des Moines, Iowa.
- 2:25:29SPEAKER_21: The Des Moines IMT 10K Angela was there.
- 2:25:33SPEAKER_21: A sunny 42 degrees at the start.
- 2:25:37SPEAKER_21: Due to a sinkhole.
- 2:25:39SPEAKER_21: There was a last-minute change of the course.
- 2:25:42SPEAKER_21: So therefore, the only aid station came at five and a half miles on a 10K.
- 2:25:48SPEAKER_21: That's kind of late for the only uh the only aid station.
- 2:25:53SPEAKER_21: Anyway, the course was difficult.
- 2:25:55SPEAKER_21: She didn't bring her own water.
- 2:25:57SPEAKER_21: Still ended up with a PR, and the post-race party came with two beers, pizza, and various other snacks all around a good day.
- 2:26:09SPEAKER_21: Let's see.
- 2:26:10SPEAKER_21: Elizabeth was also there at this Des Moines.
- 2:26:14SPEAKER_21: She was running the half marathon.
- 2:26:15SPEAKER_21: Another big race in Canada, the TCS Toronto Waterfront Half Marathon.
- 2:26:22SPEAKER_21: Phaedra, Phaedra running her first half marathon.
- 2:26:25SPEAKER_21: Good for you, Phaedra.
- 2:26:27SPEAKER_21: She was at the expo on Saturday.
- 2:26:29SPEAKER_21: She was approached by Sarah, who recognized her from her posts here on the uh Rise and Run Facebook page.
- 2:26:38SPEAKER_21: Turns out they're both in the same corral.
- 2:26:40SPEAKER_21: They ran pretty much the same intervals.
- 2:26:42SPEAKER_21: So they started together.
- 2:26:43SPEAKER_21: They did not do the race together, but they did celebrate together at the finish line.
- 2:26:48SPEAKER_21: So Sarah was there.
- 2:26:51SPEAKER_21: Marina said it was chilly at the start for the first five kilometers, but once the sun broke through, it was beautiful.
- 2:26:59SPEAKER_21: They hit the lake shore along Lake Ontario.
- 2:27:02SPEAKER_21: Didn't get a personal best.
- 2:27:06SPEAKER_21: Went out for late night drinks and dinner the night before, but still did well.
- 2:27:10SPEAKER_21: Ah, you kids.
- 2:27:11SPEAKER_21: You can do that.
- 2:27:12SPEAKER_21: I remember the days.
- 2:27:14SPEAKER_21: Had a great time.
- 2:27:15SPEAKER_21: Nice flat course with tons of crowd support.
- 2:27:19SPEAKER_21: Nicole was also at this race, commented on the beautiful weather, the crowd support, and loving every second of it.
- 2:27:27SPEAKER_21: Grateful for runs like this one.
- 2:27:31SPEAKER_21: Go to Long Island, where Eileen ran the Suffolk County half marathon.
- 2:27:37SPEAKER_21: Her second half marathon and first outside the Disney bubble.
- 2:27:41SPEAKER_21: Did well despite the cold and the wind, which was a challenge on the bridges over the water.
- 2:27:46SPEAKER_21: I'll bet it was.
- 2:27:47SPEAKER_21: I mean, wind's tough enough just coming down the pike, but if you're on a bridge, uh it can be a mess.
- 2:27:53SPEAKER_21: Happy that she did it though.
- 2:27:55SPEAKER_21: Good job, Eileen.
- 2:27:56SPEAKER_21: Anna ran the Eden Project Half Marathon in Cornwall.
- 2:28:01SPEAKER_21: And Anna, you know I'm going to mess this up.
- 2:28:05SPEAKER_21: Bodelva.
- 2:28:07SPEAKER_21: Bodelva, Bodelva.
- 2:28:08SPEAKER_21: Sounds good to me.
- 2:28:10SPEAKER_21: Yeah, but it won't sound good to Anna, and she'll let me know.
- 2:28:13SPEAKER_21: It's a local race for her, three miles from her home.
- 2:28:16SPEAKER_21: Uh, returning to the site of her very first half marathon.
- 2:28:20SPEAKER_21: This is a hilly course with a downhill finish.
- 2:28:24SPEAKER_21: Smashed her race personal best by eight minutes.
- 2:28:30SPEAKER_21: Vicky was in Illinois for the Naperville half marathon.
- 2:28:35SPEAKER_21: Andy and Jamie in York in the UK.
- 2:28:41SPEAKER_21: See, I, you know, that one you nailed.
- 2:28:43SPEAKER_21: Yeah, honestly.
- 2:28:44SPEAKER_21: That one confirmed.
- 2:28:45SPEAKER_21: Right.
- 2:28:45SPEAKER_21: See, see what Andy and Jamie do for me, and you gotta go anyway.
- 2:28:50SPEAKER_21: This is the Yorkshire Marathon.
- 2:28:52SPEAKER_21: Uh training been up and down, but along with, you know, Andy along with Jamie really stepped up their efforts last couple weeks.
- 2:28:59SPEAKER_21: Almost perfect running conditions this weekend there.
- 2:29:02SPEAKER_21: Uh three of them ran together.
- 2:29:05SPEAKER_21: Didn't mention the third name, I don't think.
- 2:29:08SPEAKER_21: All Andy can say, he's so glad to have run with two great mates.
- 2:29:13SPEAKER_21: They all helped each other out on the course.
- 2:29:16SPEAKER_21: Course has a sting in its tail, a very steep hill that's got to be conquered before the last few hundred meters gently sloped downhill.
- 2:29:25SPEAKER_21: The noise in the last 300 meters or so was special.
- 2:29:27SPEAKER_21: It kept people moving.
- 2:29:29SPEAKER_21: They all finished right around four hours 53 minutes.
- 2:29:32SPEAKER_21: A 27-minute personal best for Andy.
- 2:29:37SPEAKER_24: Andy, I know you have been chasing that sub two hour half for a really, really long time now.
- 2:29:44SPEAKER_24: But smashing a marathon PR, I hope this gives you enough positive energy to know that one day that sub two is going to come revel in this.
- 2:29:54SPEAKER_24: You deserve it, buddy.
- 2:29:56SPEAKER_21: Way to go.
- 2:29:57SPEAKER_21: Not bad.
- 2:29:59SPEAKER_21: All right, just come back over this side of the big body of water and go to Asheville, North Carolina, where Megan ran the boo-5k out for a morning run while she was traveling, ran into the race.
- 2:30:13SPEAKER_21: They had spots available, so of course she signed up.
- 2:30:16SPEAKER_21: Ended up getting first place female masters overall.
- 2:30:21SPEAKER_21: There you go.
- 2:30:21SPEAKER_21: That's the way to do it.
- 2:30:23SPEAKER_21: That is the way to do it, Megan.
- 2:30:26SPEAKER_21: Holly was in Kalera, Alabama for the Ozon 5K Haunted Wine Run.
- 2:30:34SPEAKER_21: Second time running the course, ran completely by feel, meaning no gym boss.
- 2:30:39SPEAKER_21: Honestly felt great.
- 2:30:41SPEAKER_21: And since this was a wine run, complete with wine at the finish and a wine stopper medal, she just pretended that she was at wine and dine.
- 2:30:50SPEAKER_21: How appropriate.
- 2:30:53SPEAKER_21: Tracy was in Ohio for the Nationwide Children's Columbus half marathon.
- 2:30:58SPEAKER_21: Great weather in a flat course.
- 2:31:00SPEAKER_21: Tracy's husband was sick, so she had to run her first race by herself.
- 2:31:06SPEAKER_21: Ring the PR bell.
- 2:31:07SPEAKER_21: She took 33 minutes off of her previous PR, beating a goal she'd set for herself.
- 2:31:14SPEAKER_21: That made for a great training run for Marathon Weekend.
- 2:31:16SPEAKER_21: Heck, it made for a great run, period.
- 2:31:19SPEAKER_24: Yeah, we're getting some massive PR hits this week.
- 2:31:21SPEAKER_24: This is great.
- 2:31:22SPEAKER_21: Well, we, you know, summer training, yada yada.
- 2:31:24SPEAKER_21: That's right, true, yeah.
- 2:31:25SPEAKER_21: Yeah.
- 2:31:26SPEAKER_21: Uh in Wisconsin, the Staughton High School booster trek.
- 2:31:31SPEAKER_21: Booster Trek 5K.
- 2:31:34SPEAKER_21: Glenda and her granddaughter Mavy.
- 2:31:38SPEAKER_21: I'm a Mave or Mavy.
- 2:31:40SPEAKER_21: I I hate it that I'm probably mispronouncing that name, but let's take a look here.
- 2:31:44SPEAKER_21: Uh, some fun fun costumes this close to Halloween.
- 2:31:47SPEAKER_21: Lovely morning with temps in the 50s.
- 2:31:50SPEAKER_21: Mavy was running strong, so they took fewer walk breaks and finished with a PR.
- 2:31:59SPEAKER_21: Out in Seattle, Stephanie did the University of Washington dog 5K.
- 2:32:05SPEAKER_21: Registration, you can sign up your dog to run with you.
- 2:32:08SPEAKER_21: So her border collie named Mighty accompanied me on a lot of her training runs, so had to do this 5K with her.
- 2:32:16SPEAKER_21: Not an official PR, despite an awesome chip time.
- 2:32:21SPEAKER_21: Could have been if she didn't stop for taking extra pictures of Mighty and giving him a decent water break.
- 2:32:27SPEAKER_21: Well, Stephanie Mighty deserved the water break.
- 2:32:31SPEAKER_21: Wrapping up the race report.
- 2:32:33SPEAKER_21: I think this one's on Sunday.
- 2:32:34SPEAKER_21: The Scarecrow Shuffle 8K at Pedlar's Village in Lahaska, Pennsylvania.
- 2:32:41SPEAKER_21: Yvette was there.
- 2:32:42SPEAKER_21: Turnout seemed kind of small.
- 2:32:44SPEAKER_21: Hilly Course, Rolling Hills.
- 2:32:47SPEAKER_21: She felt pretty good.
- 2:32:48SPEAKER_21: It's a beautiful course, and the leaves are starting to change in southeast Pennsylvania.
- 2:32:53SPEAKER_21: Loved all the cute shops in Pedlar's Village.
- 2:32:56SPEAKER_21: We had other races there before.
- 2:32:58SPEAKER_21: I remember I've talked about it because I know I've been there.
- 2:33:00SPEAKER_21: It is a really pretty area.
- 2:33:02SPEAKER_21: And that is it, my friends.
- 2:33:03SPEAKER_21: That's the race report for episode 265 of the Rise and Run Podcast.
- 2:33:10SPEAKER_21: Friends, before we wrap things up here, there's something we really want to say to all of you.
- 2:33:16SPEAKER_21: Five years ago when we started Rise and Run, I don't think any of us could imagine what this would become.
- 2:33:23SPEAKER_21: We thought we're starting a podcast about running and run Disney.
- 2:33:27SPEAKER_21: Oh, I thought maybe we'd share some stories, talk about some races, maybe interview some interesting people, maybe connect with a few other runners who shared our passion.
- 2:33:38SPEAKER_21: Now here we are.
- 2:33:40SPEAKER_21: Five years, 265 episodes, and 620,000 downloads later.
- 2:33:48SPEAKER_21: We've had an opportunity to talk with some incredible people.
- 2:33:51SPEAKER_21: We've interviewed Olympic runners, authors, coaches, race announcers, some really remarkable people whose stories have inspired us.
- 2:34:03SPEAKER_21: We celebrated accomplishments, laughed at some crazy running stories and learned more than we ever expected to learn about this sport and this community.
- 2:34:14SPEAKER_21: But as we look back on those five years, it's it's really not the interviews that stand out the most.
- 2:34:19SPEAKER_21: No, it's not the number of episodes we've recorded or number of times someone's downloaded one of 'em.
- 2:34:25SPEAKER_21: It's you.
- 2:34:26SPEAKER_21: It's the friendship, it's this family.
- 2:34:30SPEAKER_21: Because somewhere along the way something pretty amazing happened.
- 2:34:35SPEAKER_21: People who initially came together because they shared a love of running at Disney began to build friendships that went far beyond the race weekends.
- 2:34:44SPEAKER_21: People started cheering for one another, supporting one another, celebrating victories, helping each other through some tough times as well.
- 2:34:53SPEAKER_21: People who had never met before became friends.
- 2:34:57SPEAKER_21: Friends became running buddies, and the running buddies became a family.
- 2:35:03SPEAKER_21: And you let us become part of that family too.
- 2:35:09SPEAKER_21: Every year this family gets a little bigger.
- 2:35:11SPEAKER_21: We meet more of you at the race weekends.
- 2:35:14SPEAKER_21: We recognize some familiar faces, we see your pictures, read your posts on social media, hear your stories, and watch the way you encourage one another.
- 2:35:25SPEAKER_21: And every time that happens, we're reminded that this podcast has become th become something much bigger than anything we could have created on our own.
- 2:35:36SPEAKER_21: Doing this podcast takes time.
- 2:35:38SPEAKER_21: There are interviews to prepare, episodes to record and to edit.
- 2:35:42SPEAKER_21: Plenty of work that keeps us busy behind the scenes.
- 2:35:46SPEAKER_21: And there are times that I wonder what we're doing or whether we have an up another episode in us, but then we hear from you.
- 2:35:57SPEAKER_21: Somebody tells us an episode helped them through a difficult training run.
- 2:36:01SPEAKER_21: Somebody shares how they found their people through this family.
- 2:36:06SPEAKER_21: Somebody tells us that they signed up for a race they never thought they could finish, or that they found the courage to take that first step and we remember why we do this.
- 2:36:18SPEAKER_21: You keep us going.
- 2:36:20SPEAKER_21: You give all of this a purpose and you remind us that Rise and Run has never really been about a podcast.
- 2:36:28SPEAKER_21: It's been about people.
- 2:36:29SPEAKER_21: We may be the ones sitting behind the microphones, but this community belongs to all of us.
- 2:36:34SPEAKER_21: Every friendship formed, every word of encouragement, every shared mile, every finish line celebration, you're the ones who make this special.
- 2:36:42SPEAKER_21: So tonight as we celebrate five years of Rise and Run, we want you to know just how grateful we are.
- 2:36:49SPEAKER_21: Thank you for listening.
- 2:36:51SPEAKER_21: Thank you for sharing your stories with us.
- 2:36:53SPEAKER_21: Thank you for welcoming us into your lives.
- 2:36:56SPEAKER_21: Thanks for the laughs, the encouragements, the hugs at the races, and the friendships that have grown out of all of this.
- 2:37:04SPEAKER_21: And most of all, thank you for reminding us that running is about so much more than the miles we cover.
- 2:37:09SPEAKER_21: It's about the people who share those miles with us.
- 2:37:14SPEAKER_21: Five years ago we started a podcast.
- 2:37:17SPEAKER_21: What we found was a family.
- 2:37:20SPEAKER_21: Friends, and if you run, you know you are our friends.
- 2:37:24SPEAKER_21: We have no idea exactly where the next five years will take us.
- 2:37:28SPEAKER_21: But we know one thing.
- 2:37:29SPEAKER_21: As long as you're out there running alongside us, cheering each other on, and being the amazing family that you are, we'll be pretty happy to keep showing up behind these microphones.
- 2:37:41SPEAKER_21: From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of the Rise and Run family.
- 2:37:47SPEAKER_21: Here's to the miles we've shared, the friendships we've made, and all the miles and memories that are still ahead of us.
- 2:37:54SPEAKER_21: We love you, we appreciate you, and we're so glad we're on this journey together.
- 2:38:00SPEAKER_21: Happy running.
