- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Welcome to week five, Games of the Week.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: We will be analyzing two games featuring four of the five remaining undefeated teams in section four.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: Roger Near will analyze Maine and well at Windsor, and I will analyze Moravia at Groton.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Kick it off, Roger.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Oh Tim, I'll tell you here is a big game, one of the biggest games so far in Section 4 play in this season.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Class B battle by the Unbeatons.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Windsor at home against Maine and well.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: This should be one of the best games of the season.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Both are undefeated.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Windsor comes in 5-0, 1-0 in the division.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Maine and well 4-0, two and oh in the division, a class B battle.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: And didn't you talk about speed?
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: You can talk speed with Maine and well.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: The Spartans can fly.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and you know what they say about speed, Roger.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: You can tell when another student athlete's faster than uh another particular student athlete is with when their socks go faster than the other person's socks.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: You know what else they say about speed, Roger?
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: You either have it or you're chasing those who do.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: That's exactly right.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: I in my case, I did a lot of chasing.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: It didn't work out from the speed part of it, you know.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: But I'll tell you, this is this should be interesting.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: I think I think a big key for Windsor will be it cannot turn into a track meet.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: If you start to try to run with Maine and well and you get into a wide open game, the Spartans just have a boatload of stars who can outrun just about anybody.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: And it's not just one guy, it's not just Mancini, but it's a whole group of players who have showcased that speed.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: And thus, again, they are continuing to be a team to beat in Class B.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Certainly now winds are in that category as well, until they match up this weekend.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Now, for the Spartans going on the road, 26 consecutive wins, their first in New York State's Class B rankings.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: And well, they just keep racking up the points.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: So far, they've scored 215 points, an average of 53.8.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: They've given up well, 75, 18.8 average, but a lot of times that would be against their second team players late in the game.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Last week, Maine Inwell jumped out to a 21-0 lead in their action against uh the uh visitors from UB.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: 21-0 with less than seven minutes gone in the first quarter.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Another weapon that they have besides the speed, quarterback Austin Nyshot, 121 yards passing in that game, 58 yards rushing, and four touchdowns, two running and two throwing.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: And perhaps the hidden gem, not so hidden when you have to face him, Jack Hennessy, made in well standout place kicker, five-point afters, and he consistently puts the kickoffs into the end zone.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: So that is another big weapon for them.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: What about Windsor?
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Windsor 5-0.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Last time out, they crushed Shenango Valley 54-6.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: The defense in that game scored a pair of touchdowns.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: So good defensive play, and that is going to be a huge part of this matchup against Maine.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: And well, among Windsor victories, no slouch teams, 32-16 over Susquehanna Valley, 8-0 over Shenango Forks.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: So they have put up some impressive wins.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: What about scoring?
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: Well, they're averaging 35 points a game.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: They've given up just 41 points, so that's just over eight points per game on the average.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: So this should come down to an outstanding battle.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: And of course, Windsor at home, that's the edge with the home fans.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: But Maine Enwell won't be intimidated.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: We know that as they showed with a win on the road against Corning just a few days back.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: So showdown time, unbeatons in Class B.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Windsor playing host to Maine Enwell coming up in a big battle this weekend.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Tim.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: Great, Roger.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: Thank you for teeing that one up.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: And I think if it comes down to uh uh you know the kicking game, I would give the advantage to Hennessy there with Maine Enwell.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: And you can talk to Coach Gallagher how important one point is.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: As you alluded to, they got out of Corning with a win by one point and they won the state championship against Pleasantville with by just one point.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: So those kickers are very important.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: So again, Roger, thank you very much for uh teeing this up for us.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: So we're educated going into this weekend, and you take care.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: All right, you too.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: This takes us to a collision in the division between two of Section 4's five remaining undefeated teams.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: The Moravia Blue Devils, led by head coach Fred Ott, who was in his seventh season, and the Groton Indians, soon to either be the Red Hawks, Grizzlies, or Steamrollers, led by first year head coach Nick Dyson.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: I'd say Nick and his staff are doing just fine after taking over the reins for former head coach and 2023 ESPN Ithaca Coach of the Year, Joe Manning, who by the way is hunting elk this weekend.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: There's a lot going on Friday night at Groton's Ross Field Complex.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: It's homecoming and senior night.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: Senior night was moved from the Newfield game due to Newfield canceling the remainder of their season.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: The renovation for the Ross Field Complex is now complete.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: The playing surface was initiated last season, but now the bleachers, press box, and what I feel is one of the most important parts of any athletic complex, the concession stand, are all now ready.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: At halftime, the Groton School District and Board of Education will surprise and dedicate the press box in honor of what I feel is a very worthy individual.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: I feel like I'm forgetting something.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: There's a game to be played.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: This game has a playoff atmosphere and it will also have playoff implications.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Now for the visiting team Moravia.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: This will be Moravia's second game in a row against an undefeated team.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: Last week, Moravia beat a good Trumansburg team, 56 to 29.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: They come into this game ranked number three in New York State.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the division.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: Moravia scored a total of 304 points.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: That's right, 304 points, and allowed only 35 through five games.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: That's a scoring average of 60.8 points per game.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: And they only allow seven points per game.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: That's a great ratio to win games and have a great season.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: Three of their five wins have been shutouts.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: In one game, they allowed only six points, and then as I mentioned, they held a good Trumansburg team to 29 points.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: Now on to the home team, Groton.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Last week, Groton beat Unitigo Franklin 52 to 12.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Groton comes into this game ranked number two in New York State.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: Not often do you get number two and number three playing during a regular season.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: Groton comes in four and zero overall, and this will be their first divisional game.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: They scored a total of 152 points and allowed only 38 through those four games.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: That's a scoring average of 38 points per game, and Groton allows only 9.5 points per game.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: I know a lot of coaches, including myself, would love to have those numbers.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: Now for some of the student athletes to watch.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: In addition to the linemen for each team, here are a few student athletes who will affect the outcome of this game and their team season.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: From Arabia, Kyle Proper, Luke Landis, Aiden Kelly, Riley Jones, and Drew Nye.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: For Groton, Nick Karen Davieux, Garrett Moffat, Lane Darling, Nick Gammel.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: It's obvious both teams are excellent in all aspects of the game.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: This is a give game.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: G-I-V-E game.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Give game.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: Something's gotta give.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: Kickup is scheduled for Friday at 7 PM.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: Get there early to get your newly renovated seat.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: This game will be broadcast on ESPN Ithaca Sports Radio by one of our Cover Four podcast football analysts.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: First round draft pick, Ryan Ginio.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: The game will be streamed live on ESPN Ithaca.com.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: That's ESPN Ithaca.com and on the ESPN Ithaca app.
