- 2:06Speaker 2: start off asking how are you? Well? Guess what my
- 2:16Speaker 2: off stage? Yes, she's gonna tell y'all how she is right.
- 2:19Speaker 2: And it is so honored to have someone who is
- 2:22Speaker 2: a survivor. You know, we go through things every day,
- 2:29Speaker 2: but do we actually think about that word survivor? And
- 2:35Speaker 2: then we're gonna put in front of that word cancer survivor.
- 2:44Speaker 2: That is just powerful by itself. Yes, I know that
- 2:49Speaker 2: we all know someone who has lost that battle, but
- 2:53Speaker 2: I technically don't see this losing that battle. Okay, I
- 2:59Speaker 2: lost my mother passed away because of cancer. But it
- 3:04Speaker 2: is just leaving this earthly body to go to her
- 3:10Speaker 2: new home, which she was reunited with her daughter, her granddaughter,
- 3:15Speaker 2: a daughter that I lost during pregnancy, her mother, her aunt,
- 3:20Speaker 2: her brother in law. So she was reunited and how
- 3:23Speaker 2: they say reunited and it you so good? She was
- 3:28Speaker 2: feeling good. Now she's an angel looking down on us
- 3:33Speaker 2: with these churn we got. Yes, y'all know the antiques,
- 3:38Speaker 2: my nephews and my daughter. Oh but I have a guest.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Who's the returning guest? And she told me she was
- 3:46Speaker 2: gonna come back when her book comes out. Well, guess what,
- 3:48Speaker 2: you guys, The book is out, Life Behind Cancer. Welcome Mi,
- 3:55Speaker 2: Cheryl L. Grand Northern.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Hey, girly, you doing beautiful? How you doing?
- 4:03Speaker 2: I'm gonna behavior. Yes, I'm.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Yes, I'm doing great. That is great.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Tell us a little bit about your son.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Okay, my name is Cheryl Northern, the grand Most of
- 4:23Speaker 3: my books stayed Cheryl of Grand. I am originally from Newton,
- 4:27Speaker 3: New Jersey, and I resigned in Nightdale, North Carolina, because
- 4:31Speaker 3: I was with my cousin for twenty years, married for sixteen,
- 4:35Speaker 3: with him for twenty so I was a military wife
- 4:38Speaker 3: at the time. When I started writing books. I have
- 4:43Speaker 3: three small children that's now all three younger daughters, and
- 4:46Speaker 3: my book helped me to heal instead of becoming bitter.
- 4:50Speaker 3: I just started writing, and that's it went from being
- 4:55Speaker 3: heard to using the book to help someone else to
- 4:59Speaker 3: inspire them. And I started off with no internet or anything.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I would go to McDonald's. I had a hot spot
- 5:07Speaker 3: and I just kept pushing, even through the mistakes in
- 5:10Speaker 3: the area. So my children, the favor of God used
- 5:14Speaker 3: me to get inspired because of them at that particular time,
- 5:17Speaker 3: instead of keeping their hurt and pain inside of me.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I have a lot of authors to come on the
- 5:25Speaker 2: show who say that writing is their therapy, and it
- 5:30Speaker 2: seems like you're writing became a relationship between you and
- 5:33Speaker 2: God and that therapy took place. Yeah, was this a
- 5:38Speaker 2: hard journey to go through?
- 5:42Speaker 3: It was hard. I had a relative that she still
- 5:45Speaker 3: write books from Debbie Foreman, who told me, she said,
- 5:48Speaker 3: you got a story and at the time I was
- 5:51Speaker 3: keeping kids. Yes, it was hard because of the fact
- 5:54Speaker 3: that number one, where I'm at now, I wasn't in
- 5:57Speaker 3: that same spiritual place at that time. But I think
- 6:02Speaker 3: the Lord at the time I had one that used
- 6:04Speaker 3: on side of his body. You know I was trying
- 6:06Speaker 3: to motivate him, trying to do this, and the hard
- 6:08Speaker 3: part was I didn't have inny andet. I think that
- 6:11Speaker 3: was the hardest part that I had to go in
- 6:14Speaker 3: like coffee shops, different places. I started with a family member.
- 6:19Speaker 3: I was actually doing it with her and one day
- 6:21Speaker 3: she was like, Okay, it's time for you to step
- 6:23Speaker 3: up by yourself. What are you talking about doing what myself?
- 6:27Speaker 3: And I listen, But anything in life to me that's
- 6:34Speaker 3: worth having the challenges would make us wrong. And a
- 6:38Speaker 3: lot of the times we don't understand the strength that
- 6:41Speaker 3: we have until we put in the obstacle. And I
- 6:46Speaker 3: do believe sometimes it's not always the devil that do that.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Sometimes it's God and his way of strengthen us. We
- 6:54Speaker 3: use a lot of steple with God. But I'm sorry
- 6:57Speaker 3: the devil, but everything is not the devil. Sometimes fire us,
- 7:03Speaker 3: push us, sometimes sit us down, sometimes look at our situation,
- 7:08Speaker 3: and sometimes we'll call everybody else And God said, no, daughter,
- 7:14Speaker 3: this is gonna be the healing for you. And then
- 7:18Speaker 3: I'm gonna use the same healing for you to inspire us.
- 7:22Speaker 3: And we got to take our stuff out. Every story
- 7:25Speaker 3: there's somebody else, and if we look at that, I
- 7:29Speaker 3: think we'll all be okay instead of thinking about about us,
- 7:34Speaker 3: you know at that time. So that's what really pushed
- 7:37Speaker 3: me to that level.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel I don't know, but you guys, sometimes
- 7:43Speaker 2: I feel like God's put you in a situation where
- 7:45Speaker 2: you have no choice but to trust him.
- 7:48Speaker 3: M hmm. That's what happened. I have.
- 7:54Speaker 2: We don't see it like that. We are the Lord,
- 7:57Speaker 2: let the devil. No, no, no, no, He will want
- 8:00Speaker 2: you to trust him. Yes, So people just don't see
- 8:06Speaker 2: it that way. You know, life behind cancer. I know
- 8:13Speaker 2: that was a journey by itself.
- 8:16Speaker 3: How I mean.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I've seen it firsthand with one, two, three, four, five six,
- 8:28Speaker 2: every female in my family, every single one that has
- 8:34Speaker 2: passed away that's passed away some form of cancer and
- 8:39Speaker 2: me saying that right now, admit to y'all, I am
- 8:46Speaker 2: afraid and I don't ever thought of it this way.
- 8:52Speaker 2: But when I think about my family line, it's like
- 8:55Speaker 2: whoa woo up now this person, this person, this person,
- 8:58Speaker 2: this person, disperson.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Yes, I'm gonna save me. I don't want you to
- 9:06Speaker 3: even teat that because number one and my family on
- 9:09Speaker 3: both sides. Yes, but you gotta understand when our families
- 9:14Speaker 3: passed back, they they didn't have the technology that they
- 9:16Speaker 3: have for us now. Number one, you can't stay the
- 9:20Speaker 3: means at the same time and worried and not cutting
- 9:25Speaker 3: you off. For me, it was a little bit different
- 9:27Speaker 3: because I didn't have any symptoms. I didn't have no signs.
- 9:30Speaker 3: I was going to all my doctors, I was working out,
- 9:33Speaker 3: and I was walking, and they kept testing me. So
- 9:36Speaker 3: when they kept testing me, I was like, something not right,
- 9:39Speaker 3: and they when they laid me on the table, it
- 9:41Speaker 3: looked like a size piece and it was. It was.
- 9:46Speaker 3: I was actually doing a monogule with Miss Angela and
- 9:50Speaker 3: a couple others. I was actually doing it with them.
- 9:53Speaker 3: And my part was courage. My part was that they
- 9:57Speaker 3: told me I had a bad liver disease and and
- 10:00Speaker 3: my reaction what I was supposed to say. And I
- 10:02Speaker 3: was in the room and I had to throw my
- 10:04Speaker 3: mediciner and that was the part. And it's something how
- 10:07Speaker 3: God will prepare you. When I went to the doctor,
- 10:10Speaker 3: it was the same way. They called me in a
- 10:13Speaker 3: room privally, and I was like, wait a minute. So
- 10:16Speaker 3: they said, mister Graham, we have something to tell you.
- 10:19Speaker 3: We found some cancer. I said cancer. Well, I didn't
- 10:22Speaker 3: react the same way I did when we rehearsed it.
- 10:26Speaker 3: I cried there in the play. It was my name
- 10:30Speaker 3: is courage. That's not how I reacted. I just broke
- 10:34Speaker 3: down because the word cancer. But I called my family
- 10:40Speaker 3: member and I talked to her. She said, calm down
- 10:43Speaker 3: and wait till you get home. When I got home,
- 10:45Speaker 3: I was all over the place. Only thing I knew
- 10:48Speaker 3: was people in my family die with cancer. And on
- 10:50Speaker 3: top of the cancer. You got to remember, with me,
- 10:55Speaker 3: I deal glopid, so it wasn't only just about the cancer.
- 10:59Speaker 3: I was dealing with cancer and lucas at the same time.
- 11:03Speaker 3: So can you imagine already been dealing with lupers ten eleven,
- 11:07Speaker 3: twelve years, then they telling you you have cancer. That
- 11:10Speaker 3: spread rapidly to her too. So I was already in
- 11:15Speaker 3: stage two. So I went on my crowd up all
- 11:17Speaker 3: my aunt. She went through all the appointments with me.
- 11:21Speaker 3: They gave me out and they was like, you're gonna
- 11:23Speaker 3: have thurjury, then after that you're gonna have chemo, you're
- 11:27Speaker 3: gonna have radiation, and do you want the pills and
- 11:30Speaker 3: the full and she said, give it all. To her
- 11:33Speaker 3: and in my mind I was like give me what.
- 11:38Speaker 3: I was like, give me what, and I never forget
- 11:41Speaker 3: the loopers. Doctor looked at me and said, this is
- 11:44Speaker 3: gonna be difficult because we never had any one with
- 11:48Speaker 3: lupus and cancer at the same woo can you are met?
- 11:54Speaker 3: And then he said we have to give her the
- 11:57Speaker 3: most you want to get two three? I said, before
- 12:01Speaker 3: I was getting eight treatments at one time.
- 12:06Speaker 2: WHOA yeah.
- 12:10Speaker 3: First, after the surgery, I was going to I was
- 12:15Speaker 3: getting a trip. They will stick the court here and
- 12:19Speaker 3: sometimes I'd be there four or five hours at a time.
- 12:24Speaker 3: I walk in one way and walk out like a zombie.
- 12:28Speaker 2: And the part that's.
- 12:31Speaker 3: The hardest is when you go in there and see
- 12:33Speaker 3: other people losing way for other people giving up. So
- 12:38Speaker 3: I was on the prayer line with Miss Andrew and
- 12:40Speaker 3: I was on there with my ministry, and it hit
- 12:42Speaker 3: it jokes and different people praying. Even though I have
- 12:45Speaker 3: people praying for me and not tell anybody, you have
- 12:48Speaker 3: to pray for yourself, and that was say it not.
- 12:55Speaker 3: But when you get in challenges, challenges, it's very hard.
- 12:58Speaker 3: So I had to pray for myself. If I had
- 13:00Speaker 3: to motivate myself, but I had a feeling with the
- 13:02Speaker 3: trust the process, trust the process. That is a difficult time.
- 13:07Speaker 3: But as I had people around me that did not
- 13:12Speaker 3: treat me different really helped me. But the hall part,
- 13:16Speaker 3: my youngest one was here trying to deal with this
- 13:19Speaker 3: by himself that I never told him because the other
- 13:23Speaker 3: two were going to college, so I kept that from
- 13:26Speaker 3: everybody by the year. That was the challenge for me.
- 13:31Speaker 3: The difficult part and not telling them to anybody. Don't
- 13:34Speaker 3: do that to your children, really young, the old. The
- 13:38Speaker 3: whole part was when they find out, they was very upset.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Because I didn't tell them.
- 13:44Speaker 3: I didn't want them to le college or the school.
- 13:46Speaker 3: So for me, lupers cancer and heart failure came with
- 13:51Speaker 3: the loopers and the cancer, but now we got lupers
- 13:55Speaker 3: cancer and heart failure and radiation. All I want time.
- 14:04Speaker 3: So that was challenge.
- 14:09Speaker 2: You are a walking miracle, Yes I am.
- 14:14Speaker 3: You're crying all of that and you get.
- 14:17Speaker 2: These beautiful locks. Thank you, You still got that pretty smile.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Thank you, walking miracle. Yeah. What would you want someone
- 14:35Speaker 2: to take away from your book Life Behind Cancer? If
- 14:40Speaker 2: you can give them one thing to take away from
- 14:43Speaker 2: your book, which I don't want y'all to take it.
- 14:45Speaker 2: But one thing. Let's let's get a correct but you'll know.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Interviews you got to ask us so cute questions. But
- 14:50Speaker 2: I'm my answer. If you could take one thing out
- 14:55Speaker 2: of your book for somebody to carry with them what
- 15:00Speaker 2: to be.
- 15:01Speaker 3: I'm gonna say this to everybody listening. The reason why
- 15:04Speaker 3: I thought, when you have children in your life, younger
- 15:08Speaker 3: or old, life is coming. It is not what we say.
- 15:14Speaker 3: We cannot read the scriptures to them and pray and
- 15:17Speaker 3: fast and while octacles come, they don't see that inside
- 15:21Speaker 3: of us. It's okay for them to see you cry.
- 15:23Speaker 3: It's okay for them to see you pray because I
- 15:27Speaker 3: tell my children have all the education, all the money,
- 15:30Speaker 3: but if we do not have a relationship with them,
- 15:33Speaker 3: we will fall because life is coming. So what pushed
- 15:37Speaker 3: me is not so much myself. I felt like I
- 15:40Speaker 3: had to do this for my three trisure. So I
- 15:43Speaker 3: would tell anyone if your mind is not right, your
- 15:47Speaker 3: heart is not gonna be right. If your heart is
- 15:50Speaker 3: not gonna be right your mind, it go hand in hand.
- 15:53Speaker 3: You have to trans yourself and say I know God
- 15:59Speaker 3: got me. Think about your path and think about everything
- 16:04Speaker 3: you brought you through, and I had to remember that
- 16:06Speaker 3: for me, it ain't matter if everybody around me was playing,
- 16:11Speaker 3: But what about Ryls. So my encouragement was to you
- 16:14Speaker 3: when I obstacles in tribal tripulation, I can't tell you
- 16:17Speaker 3: it's not gonna be hard. I can't tell you not
- 16:19Speaker 3: gonna cry. I'm not gonna tell you it might not
- 16:21Speaker 3: go your way. Because they had to keep checking all
- 16:24Speaker 3: my blood sells and everything was going down. So when
- 16:28Speaker 3: it went down, I had to wait another week or
- 16:31Speaker 3: two to get the treatments. Again. If your blood level
- 16:36Speaker 3: anything that's not right, guess what they say, you have
- 16:39Speaker 3: to wait. So but in and out that came on,
- 16:45Speaker 3: woof is still having flare ups. Then they come and
- 16:49Speaker 3: send me to a heart failure doctor in between and said,
- 16:53Speaker 3: we don't know what we can continue to do because
- 16:56Speaker 3: if we keep giving you your treatment, you can die.
- 17:00Speaker 3: So they had to make a choice, and that means
- 17:04Speaker 3: that the cancer is not gone. So that's another So
- 17:10Speaker 3: what happened was they had to monitor me as they
- 17:14Speaker 3: finished up the treatments, so they was monitoring my heart,
- 17:19Speaker 3: they was monitoring the cancer, and they was monitoring the
- 17:22Speaker 3: lucas and this is three years and my family stuck
- 17:29Speaker 3: by me, and my children didn't understand that first, but
- 17:33Speaker 3: when they seen the strength that I kept pushing myself,
- 17:37Speaker 3: that gave them courage. So my testimony is yes, that's
- 17:41Speaker 3: why enough. That don't worry me because I went through
- 17:45Speaker 3: all of that for three years and still was on
- 17:47Speaker 3: the prayer line with miss Angela and her beautiful sisters
- 17:51Speaker 3: that's been doing it for six years. I was still
- 17:56Speaker 3: trying to continue to encourage my children and even now
- 18:00Speaker 3: they saying that I have to have served you on
- 18:02Speaker 3: both of my eyes that I can barely see, but
- 18:06Speaker 3: I know my God because I'm a fear. So that
- 18:12Speaker 3: is my testimony to someone keep going because once you
- 18:16Speaker 3: start that, once you start doubting yourself, it's a rap.
- 18:21Speaker 3: It's already done. Because we don't understand what we think.
- 18:26Speaker 3: What comes out of our mouth. It can really do
- 18:29Speaker 3: either damage or help us, and which one you want
- 18:34Speaker 3: to do. It's like promoting yourself.
- 18:39Speaker 2: I remember there's one pastor said this, and I always
- 18:44Speaker 2: kept this with me. He said, words of life and
- 18:46Speaker 2: their spirits, whenever you speak, it's going to happen. Yeah,
- 18:50Speaker 2: And I have to check myself with that. All the time.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Like this morning, I had a real bad headache because
- 18:56Speaker 2: of this fallen Please love that terrible. I was like, oh, y'all,
- 19:05Speaker 2: I feel like I'm about to go home, and I
- 19:08Speaker 2: know I made the determination to get out and walk
- 19:12Speaker 2: when I go to work out there walking with that polytics.
- 19:17Speaker 2: I said, I'm going to make this determination. I'm gonna
- 19:20Speaker 2: make this first move. I'm out there walking with the
- 19:23Speaker 2: pollen s.
- 19:24Speaker 3: All right, God, you gotta stop saying this. I want
- 19:30Speaker 3: you to stop speaking today about for all your family had.
- 19:35Speaker 3: It don't matter if a thousand habits, you're gonna be
- 19:39Speaker 3: the generational You're gonna break that. So I need you
- 19:43Speaker 3: to stop staying where you worried, because you're already giving
- 19:46Speaker 3: the enemy heads up. You already know you worrying because
- 19:50Speaker 3: even now I get checked every three four months for
- 19:55Speaker 3: lupis and cancer. Still now they have to check my liver,
- 20:00Speaker 3: of my kidneys, my heart. They still got me under
- 20:03Speaker 3: heart failure as we speak. You gotta think about it's
- 20:07Speaker 3: been over fifteen years for loopers. I can't stop life.
- 20:11Speaker 3: I have to continue to pray. I continue find you
- 20:13Speaker 3: see me on Facebook, I be smiling. Don't let don't
- 20:17Speaker 3: let what they say take you. Everybody who's listening, you
- 20:21Speaker 3: take it because the doctor could be wrong. They told
- 20:25Speaker 3: me I will never have kisdom in my life, and
- 20:28Speaker 3: I have three, so no, I don't want another, you know.
- 20:35Speaker 3: And it's funny you say that because right now my
- 20:38Speaker 3: younger daughters say, are stretching. I got one getting ready
- 20:40Speaker 3: to go to grad school. I got one gotta take
- 20:42Speaker 3: the bar. I got one to go back to school,
- 20:45Speaker 3: and so I got to be the one to set
- 20:47Speaker 3: that example and let them know, this is life. You
- 20:53Speaker 3: made it this far, you have to keep going. So
- 20:56Speaker 3: I sell whoever listening. Everybody got a store. Everybody have
- 21:01Speaker 3: an obstacle, and everybody go through something. It's not what
- 21:06Speaker 3: we go through, it's how we handle what we go
- 21:08Speaker 3: through because we can't stop it. God has our journey
- 21:13Speaker 3: and we could do everything right. I will doubt our walk.
- 21:17Speaker 3: I was eating right, didn't have no size, and was
- 21:22Speaker 3: donosed were her to cancer that spread it very rapidly
- 21:26Speaker 3: and fast.
- 21:28Speaker 2: I am going to take what you say. Thank you
- 21:31Speaker 2: for checking me and putting me in my place.
- 21:34Speaker 3: In auful way, and a.
- 21:36Speaker 2: One to break that cycle. My generation, my lineage will
- 21:43Speaker 2: be to one to break that cycle. I speak upon
- 21:48Speaker 2: me and my family, my kids, and y'all bet not
- 21:52Speaker 2: have no kids, no time soon, but these kids kids,
- 21:56Speaker 2: So yes, I take it, I receive it, and I
- 21:59Speaker 2: will do what I am supposed to do.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Yes, transform your mind, transform yourself. You are beautiful. God
- 22:09Speaker 3: got to the faith. I ain't said it's gonna be easy,
- 22:11Speaker 3: so I'm not gonna tell anybody that I'm just saying
- 22:14Speaker 3: is we have to. We have no choice because the
- 22:19Speaker 3: world that we live in, with everything around us and
- 22:23Speaker 3: so much is going on. We have to teach our
- 22:26Speaker 3: younger daughters. We can't make them think the steak is
- 22:29Speaker 3: always on the stove and we don't fall and we
- 22:33Speaker 3: don't cry. Sometimes falling back is good, but it's how
- 22:38Speaker 3: we handle when that comes. What we need to teach.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Them, not how much money God.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Not how many books we got. Now big our house
- 22:48Speaker 3: is by Do you have a relationship when God? When
- 22:51Speaker 3: everything comes against you? How are you handling that?
- 23:01Speaker 2: Speaking truth, prayers and the most powerful prayers still ward?
- 23:06Speaker 2: That is so true. I'm gonna hear my mom and
- 23:10Speaker 2: my grandmama and love forgive me. I want to get
- 23:14Speaker 2: in okay, but I'm gonna be truth boy, four five
- 23:17Speaker 2: o'clock in the morning. When I was a teenager, that's
- 23:22Speaker 2: all I heard in the house. And I'm like, I know,
- 23:24Speaker 2: these women think I ain't trying to sleep. I gotta
- 23:27Speaker 2: get up in the morning. But old they were praying
- 23:31Speaker 2: upon us and putting into our lives. And even to
- 23:35Speaker 2: the now, there is a constant flow of music in
- 23:40Speaker 2: my house. It's one thing that my family did, one
- 23:43Speaker 2: thing that my grandma's both of my grandma, my dad's
- 23:47Speaker 2: mom and my mom's mom, they used to always have
- 23:51Speaker 2: some type of music, gospel and music at that in
- 23:55Speaker 2: the house. And my grandmama say, if he's your spirit,
- 23:58Speaker 2: even when you're sleeping, yes, we don't have enough for that.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Always on twenty four seven and then there was this
- 24:09Speaker 2: one station she's to put on. And then it was
- 24:15Speaker 2: no offense. You guys, I know there's a white station.
- 24:19Speaker 2: And at seven o'clock they all say, let's pray, and
- 24:22Speaker 2: I knew it was time to get up.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Just like that.
- 24:25Speaker 2: It's like, dog, I hurt it, but I do it now.
- 24:31Speaker 2: I'm to do it now my son does it. Twenty
- 24:36Speaker 2: three years old African American male will sit up there
- 24:40Speaker 2: and have this gospel plane while he's sleeping at night.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Need same exact thing. That's something that our family is
- 24:50Speaker 2: still in us and I really do feel like that's
- 24:52Speaker 2: feeding our spirit when we're sitting.
- 24:55Speaker 3: But no, we don't a lot of you know what.
- 24:58Speaker 3: I'm glad you said that. That's not a lot of
- 25:00Speaker 3: that anymore. We have really lost that, whether the school
- 25:03Speaker 3: rather than our home. We have lost that community of
- 25:07Speaker 3: prayer and the grandparents praying constantly, Like I get on
- 25:12Speaker 3: the zoom with my children and I pray with them
- 25:15Speaker 3: even if they don't want to listen to everybody. Put
- 25:18Speaker 3: plant that seed because you know when they younger daughters,
- 25:20Speaker 3: we know they're going out because we went out. But
- 25:23Speaker 3: plant that seed to them so one day they gonna
- 25:28Speaker 3: remember what Betty said and what you said, even if
- 25:31Speaker 3: they not listening, even if they want to sell phone.
- 25:34Speaker 3: But if we don't plant that seed and them like
- 25:38Speaker 3: back in the day, you knew Grandma I Betty was praying.
- 25:41Speaker 3: Now Grandma might be at the club.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Then't grandma some more? They they sassy. You know my
- 25:48Speaker 2: cousin gonna get me. They sassys the gms. The mother
- 25:54Speaker 2: once moved o. Grandparents an't like they used to be
- 25:58Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, And I really wish that
- 26:00Speaker 2: would come back. I really wish that would come back.
- 26:05Speaker 2: The grandparents who prayed with you, and even if they
- 26:08Speaker 2: didn't pray with you, Let's bring it back to the
- 26:10Speaker 2: African American community, right the family cookouts, the Sunday dinners,
- 26:17Speaker 2: that even if you only went to church twice a year,
- 26:21Speaker 2: you were God Sunday when they had the family get together,
- 26:27Speaker 2: or that one Sunday when Granny called y'all all the
- 26:31Speaker 2: come to church. Because Grannie didn't mind if you didn't
- 26:33Speaker 2: go to church on EASTA, that's fine. She really didn't
- 26:37Speaker 2: care about the clothes. But you did go to church
- 26:39Speaker 2: on Lisa. But it was always that family fellowship Sunday
- 26:42Speaker 2: where everybody used to come together. And then when y'all
- 26:45Speaker 2: used to have the Sunday dinners and then we used
- 26:47Speaker 2: to do the holidays when we get there. Nobody does
- 26:51Speaker 2: that like they used to do anymore. And I was
- 26:54Speaker 2: just talking to my aunts because between me and my
- 26:58Speaker 2: aunt's there's about maybe fifteen year difference, and most of
- 27:04Speaker 2: the stuff they do. I go and represent my mother
- 27:10Speaker 2: and standing in the place for her.
- 27:12Speaker 3: But I was just.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Telling them, I said, man, we can't have a full
- 27:14Speaker 2: of July like we ain't that in the wow I'm
- 27:17Speaker 2: of us getting together and their videos. You know, my
- 27:22Speaker 2: mom sitting up they singing, we wish you she was
- 27:25Speaker 2: this Christmas. That's the song and singing all loud and
- 27:29Speaker 2: off key. But family, yes, and it was that that unit.
- 27:37Speaker 3: So my family's still good. Now I'm blessed in that area,
- 27:42Speaker 3: the lectus everything my family. Like I said, I still
- 27:46Speaker 3: you know, have families that we get together, and that's
- 27:49Speaker 3: truly a blessing. I just sometimes pray about the community. Yes,
- 27:54Speaker 3: me and my friend get together. So much is going
- 27:57Speaker 3: on and in our communities we have law. We have
- 28:01Speaker 3: lost that in the communities. What you just said, but
- 28:04Speaker 3: all these take is one we could stand. We can rise,
- 28:08Speaker 3: you know. I let my children know. You know. But
- 28:10Speaker 3: when I said, with the cancer and the loopers, it's
- 28:13Speaker 3: called for me transformation. I am a survival because it
- 28:17Speaker 3: started in my mind. That's number one. Started in my
- 28:22Speaker 3: mind because I was not right. When I went in there.
- 28:26Speaker 3: I rehearsed. You know, my name was courage. I could
- 28:29Speaker 3: do all things when someone fit in front of you.
- 28:33Speaker 3: That is the test I could say all day. I
- 28:35Speaker 3: got strengths here. But what happened to you in that room,
- 28:38Speaker 3: in that dark room by yourself? When they say so
- 28:41Speaker 3: and so you got cancer, so and so, we ain't
- 28:43Speaker 3: never seen it before so and so, and spreading all
- 28:47Speaker 3: of that goes out the window. So you have to
- 28:52Speaker 3: strength in yourself. And then I was reading a Bible
- 28:54Speaker 3: one day and all my head just fell out, like over.
- 28:57Speaker 3: I was like reading the Bible and I tached my hand, yeah,
- 29:00Speaker 3: and all of us fell out. And when my hair
- 29:02Speaker 3: came back, my hair was like really thick and course.
- 29:05Speaker 3: So mentally, God just showed me, daughter, I need you
- 29:10Speaker 3: to trust me right now, not your family, just me.
- 29:16Speaker 3: No money in the world can protect you from camps
- 29:19Speaker 3: and the world can protect you.
- 29:23Speaker 2: None. Look at these people who we all idolize we
- 29:27Speaker 2: see on TV with all the money.
- 29:30Speaker 3: In the world.
- 29:30Speaker 2: But then.
- 29:35Speaker 3: I had to trust him. And then this is a
- 29:37Speaker 3: part where I tell people don't get healed, and heal
- 29:44Speaker 3: we see I have to go back. Sometimes we get
- 29:47Speaker 3: our old Lord, thanks Jesus. So when the trial come,
- 29:53Speaker 3: God saying it himself, okay, daughter, I want you to do that.
- 29:55Speaker 3: You don't believe I can bring you through that. Sometimes
- 29:59Speaker 3: he don't even bring us out the way we want
- 30:01Speaker 3: him to bring us out because we're talking about us.
- 30:05Speaker 3: He gotta let us know who the real boss. I
- 30:09Speaker 3: might want to get out this way, baby, like, okay, daughter,
- 30:14Speaker 3: I didn't even tell you to go through that door.
- 30:16Speaker 3: So now since you went through the door, you're gonna
- 30:18Speaker 3: wait another week.
- 30:19Speaker 2: There you're there, you go, there you go, he said,
- 30:23Speaker 2: My will be done, not a house. So I don't know.
- 30:29Speaker 2: If you're looking at the screen over there, you know
- 30:33Speaker 2: that it is hot seat time, okay, And so I
- 30:41Speaker 2: kid you not. I was on this old choir thing
- 30:44Speaker 2: because I missed the choirs, you know, I missed it
- 30:47Speaker 2: sopranos and in the tennis, I missed that. So my
- 30:51Speaker 2: question to you, okay, if you can choose any song,
- 30:59Speaker 2: any gospel song, to be the soundtrack to your documentary,
- 31:07Speaker 2: what would it be? And why that song?
- 31:12Speaker 3: I can't sing, so you ask or I cannot sing.
- 31:19Speaker 3: But I'm gonna be honest with you. I don't know
- 31:22Speaker 3: all her song, but it would be either Whitney Houston
- 31:26Speaker 3: or Tambala Man.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Oh okay? So which one by White?
- 31:32Speaker 3: And what's my man? What is that? When she singing? Lord? Okay?
- 31:41Speaker 3: I like that one too. Lord who sing that one? Lord,
- 31:44Speaker 3: Tamla Man, it was once you sung on the Tyler
- 31:46Speaker 3: Perry Show.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Oh my god, I'm trying to think Tyler Perry Shaw.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Yeah sing it? Can you sing? Oh?
- 31:55Speaker 2: I can't sing? Girl, I will out this podcast.
- 32:00Speaker 3: But it's one that.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Yeah, do you remember which movie it was?
- 32:07Speaker 3: It was the Old Ones? It was it was the
- 32:09Speaker 3: old you know, he always son. It was, matter of fact,
- 32:12Speaker 3: she made a record out of it. Let me see,
- 32:16Speaker 3: I love anything Tamla May's Famila Man got the sauce.
- 32:20Speaker 3: Let me say, Samla Man, let's go. You put me
- 32:25Speaker 3: on this. So let me say this for the world.
- 32:28Speaker 3: Anyone tamlor Man do I like? Okay?
- 32:32Speaker 2: You say anyone, y'all? Anyone?
- 32:35Speaker 3: Okay.
- 32:35Speaker 2: So we're talking about Whitney Houston.
- 32:39Speaker 3: Which one by Whitney Houston. Okay it was counter Man.
- 32:43Speaker 3: Let me see, okay, Whitney Houston. Yeah she did have Okay,
- 32:47Speaker 3: let me Whitney Houston up. Let me say what I
- 32:50Speaker 3: just like. No, honestly, I like anything that Whitney Houston do.
- 32:55Speaker 3: I just thought that she had a woe on her
- 32:59Speaker 3: to mean, that was one of the most powerful she
- 33:04Speaker 3: had the you know some people sing, she sings through
- 33:07Speaker 3: her heart. So to me, you was singing one of
- 33:11Speaker 3: the most powerful wars to me ever, that besides Patty LaBelle,
- 33:17Speaker 3: because I like Patty label and hers was he can
- 33:22Speaker 3: use me by Whitney, you say to me, or he
- 33:25Speaker 3: can use me. That was one of the ones that
- 33:27Speaker 3: she did. And I like the joy to the wild
- 33:31Speaker 3: forward him my aunt, and the joy to the world.
- 33:37Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 33:38Speaker 2: It is not Christmas. Can you please put with me
- 33:41Speaker 2: in the back. No, I don't have to listen on
- 33:43Speaker 2: your Christmas.
- 33:44Speaker 3: I can listen. Let's Whitney send one of the gospel songs,
- 33:48Speaker 3: joy to the world. And Jesus learned me. Think about that.
- 33:51Speaker 3: Jesus loves us, Yes, and we all want to bring
- 33:55Speaker 3: joy to the world. And that's I like a meaning.
- 33:58Speaker 3: It's one thing, mar it, but I like a meaning.
- 34:02Speaker 3: Just think about that. Jesus. Nobody else love us. Jesus
- 34:07Speaker 3: loves us.
- 34:09Speaker 2: And she she always stick with that with her, her
- 34:12Speaker 2: daughter and her mother, they stick with it. They never
- 34:16Speaker 2: let that go. Even though everything she went through and
- 34:19Speaker 2: even that thing she did, she knew that Jesus loved her.
- 34:23Speaker 2: So all right, I got you then, Yes, before we leave. Yeah,
- 34:41Speaker 2: you have to give us one nugget that we can
- 34:44Speaker 2: carry through tomorrow.
- 34:46Speaker 3: One another.
- 34:49Speaker 2: That we can go through tonight and have it for
- 34:52Speaker 2: tomorrow to continue to go through. What would it be?
- 34:59Speaker 3: I will say, transform your mind like download it like
- 35:06Speaker 3: because we all know prayer work. But you know how
- 35:09Speaker 3: you look at the computer and sometimes the store it
- 35:11Speaker 3: is full. Yeah, reloaded. I need you to reload. Take
- 35:19Speaker 3: out all the hold and bringing the new the Sanuay sometime.
- 35:24Speaker 3: You know. We got to do that with our computer
- 35:26Speaker 3: and our phone. Take out everything that's up here and
- 35:31Speaker 3: transform it. Reload, take all the old sam everything that's
- 35:37Speaker 3: hindering you to go. Just for the moment. We ain't
- 35:42Speaker 3: gonna say that day it needs to go.
- 35:45Speaker 2: So we have to reload.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Yes, get all that stinking thinking out.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Even Yes, that is the nugget. Miss the Grand Northern
- 36:02Speaker 2: is given us. Transform. You have to reload. So that
- 36:08Speaker 2: means you gotta swipe out all the negativity, all the naysayers.
- 36:12Speaker 2: You gotta swipe all that out and reroad. Re reloaded
- 36:17Speaker 2: with positivity. Yes, reloaded with your affirmation, reloaded with those
- 36:22Speaker 2: doctor tures that ensure that transform. Yes, you must.
- 36:30Speaker 3: We have to make it and just like we don't
- 36:34Speaker 3: have a choice even in our computers and phone. Listen, people,
- 36:39Speaker 3: if our computer get too much, we have to take
- 36:43Speaker 3: all the old stuff out for new storage. Get rid
- 36:48Speaker 3: of all the spams. You don't see all your emails.
- 36:51Speaker 3: You gotta clear it up. Guess what we gotta do
- 36:54Speaker 3: with ourself. We gotta do a daily check a daily
- 36:59Speaker 3: and look, I said, okay, what needs to come out?
- 37:03Speaker 3: You don't get it right here. It's not gonna come
- 37:05Speaker 3: out right here. There you go, there you go.
- 37:10Speaker 2: But before you leave us, you got to give us
- 37:12Speaker 2: the rundown where we can get the book, where we
- 37:14Speaker 2: can follow you. Okay, give us a rundown.
- 37:18Speaker 3: Okay, Yes, you can follow me on Facebook, sure, mother
- 37:21Speaker 3: of Brand. You can follow me on TikTok Survival. You
- 37:26Speaker 3: can follow me on Instagram. My name is Northern of
- 37:30Speaker 3: the Grand. I have an author page Shovel of Grand
- 37:34Speaker 3: and a lot of times I'm on Miss Angela tops
- 37:37Speaker 3: and platform as well. I'm a co author of seven
- 37:40Speaker 3: books with Curves. I'm a co author of other platforms
- 37:45Speaker 3: as well. So I also have another book that's gonna
- 37:50Speaker 3: be out soon. It is with a couple of other
- 37:53Speaker 3: ladies I also have a prayer book out with missus
- 37:57Speaker 3: Angela Apostle, Miss Kimberley and some others as well, so
- 38:02Speaker 3: I kind of stay busy so I can stay for it.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Cause you're gonna be with me in about two weeks
- 38:07Speaker 2: and you guys are gonna be talking about that series,
- 38:10Speaker 2: and y'all, I am excited to have these eight women
- 38:14Speaker 2: of God on the series.
- 38:17Speaker 3: Who Night. Miss Angela tops and has been a blessing
- 38:27Speaker 3: to not just me so many and I didn't even
- 38:31Speaker 3: think about doing for and for her to push us
- 38:35Speaker 3: in another level has been we got to stop being comfortable,
- 38:39Speaker 3: and I'm gonna be honest. Being on her platform, there
- 38:42Speaker 3: has been several times I have been very uncomfortable, but
- 38:45Speaker 3: God used that for the growth and me to push
- 38:49Speaker 3: me to another level. So I'm truly humble and grateful.
- 38:52Speaker 3: Every time she pushed us off the cliff has been.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Especially he I dove off the cliff, and y'all's totally true.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Angela Thomas Smith, and you know that's my bestie. She
- 39:07Speaker 2: was the one that had me four years ago. Y'all
- 39:12Speaker 2: know the story, but I wouldn't trade any of it
- 39:16Speaker 2: for the world because this is where God wanted.
- 39:19Speaker 3: Me to be.
- 39:20Speaker 2: And because I actually listen, I have received so much
- 39:26Speaker 2: that I never thought I will receive. I have done
- 39:29Speaker 2: so much that I never ever thought. Y'all, I went
- 39:34Speaker 2: on a plane.
- 39:35Speaker 3: If you know me.
- 39:36Speaker 2: I don't like even being in cars, but I went
- 39:39Speaker 2: on actual plane. Okay, two planes that day. So yes,
- 39:45Speaker 2: and that's one of those get out of my way, yes,
- 39:49Speaker 2: since I wanted to tell you now it's time for
- 39:51Speaker 2: you to get out of your way and let me
- 39:54Speaker 2: do what I need you to do.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Yes, And you're doing great things for you all the time.
- 40:00Speaker 3: Truly a blessing. Thank you for even having me come
- 40:03Speaker 3: up here. Just think all of you are. It's truly
- 40:06Speaker 3: been humbling. I'm grateful and I think the Lord they
- 40:10Speaker 3: told me I can't see, but I'm up here tonight.
- 40:15Speaker 2: I think you guys been coming on? Did you guys?
- 40:18Speaker 2: Really don't know that? Really, each one of you guys,
- 40:23Speaker 2: I leave with something. Okay, it's the determination you just
- 40:28Speaker 2: told me. I need to transform, I need to reloove.
- 40:34Speaker 2: You just spoke life into me, like, hey, yo, now
- 40:36Speaker 2: and stop talking like that. You know I got a paraphraze, y'all,
- 40:38Speaker 2: y'all know that. But you just told me tonight a
- 40:41Speaker 2: stop thinking of what you think. Yeah, you got to
- 40:46Speaker 2: they you have to lay down the foundation. You have
- 40:49Speaker 2: to speak the word. You have to speak the word
- 40:52Speaker 2: that was instilled bring you by your mother, your grandmother
- 40:55Speaker 2: and all those previously, so you can break this ineracial
- 40:59Speaker 2: Curfuse me when y'all y'all don't understand the boy, I
- 41:03Speaker 2: be happy. I be hating them.
- 41:06Speaker 3: That's the blessing. Though it ain't n but one person.
- 41:08Speaker 3: I think everybody fel the same way. It's not about us.
- 41:11Speaker 3: It might have started up about us, but if it's
- 41:15Speaker 3: nothing but one, surel to me, we're here to serve.
- 41:19Speaker 3: It's not about us. When we start thinking it's about
- 41:23Speaker 3: us is when it becomes a problem. So I'm glad
- 41:27Speaker 3: something to help you. But don't say that anymore.
- 41:32Speaker 2: I will not, and I will all change my way
- 41:35Speaker 2: of thinking. If I hear any of my cousins say it,
- 41:38Speaker 2: I'm gonna change their way of thinking.
- 41:40Speaker 3: I am.
- 41:41Speaker 2: I have to because I got a living year old.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Anybody who want to just I mean, but the girls
- 41:49Speaker 2: turned a living last week.
- 41:52Speaker 3: And that's the hand for all by itself. So no,
- 41:56Speaker 3: that's okay. Even though it's a blessing. You know, my
- 42:01Speaker 3: daughter are gonna be finishing grad school, a law at
- 42:05Speaker 3: third good marth to my middle son's gonna be finishing
- 42:08Speaker 3: at A and T going to grad school. And my
- 42:11Speaker 3: youngers don't get ready back and he do music and
- 42:14Speaker 3: he works. It's humbling. It's a blessing. But behind closed
- 42:17Speaker 3: doors you still got the prey. You can't never get comfortable.
- 42:22Speaker 2: Ever, you can't know, you can't know. Oh, I thank
- 42:31Speaker 2: you for being with me tonight. It has been such
- 42:35Speaker 2: an honor to have you with me. So you guys
- 42:39Speaker 2: know that you go grab it. This one is actually
- 42:42Speaker 2: Amazon correct.
- 42:44Speaker 3: Yes, I'm on Amazon. Yes, if you put in Cheryl
- 42:47Speaker 3: le Brand and go on Amazon, you will see all
- 42:50Speaker 3: my books there.
- 42:51Speaker 2: Yes, it is because I have to go get this
- 42:55Speaker 2: lovely picture of this book.
- 42:59Speaker 3: Here we go, look at her, look at it. The
- 43:04Speaker 3: Oh my god, the cheeks.
- 43:06Speaker 2: I love big cheeks. I don't know why you guys,
- 43:08Speaker 2: but I think big cheeks are just beautiful.
- 43:12Speaker 3: Look. Thank you for being.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Meet tonight. Yeah, you guys, another day night and we
- 43:27Speaker 2: would like to thank again missus Cheryl the Grand Northern

- 43:36Speaker 2: I have another with me.
- 43:56Speaker 3: Save me to the King.
- 44:00Speaker 2: I don't have much to breathe.
- 44:04Speaker 1: My heart son, since it's my own bread.
