- 0:54Speaker 1: because I, I feel like y'all's illustrator is a part
- 0:56Speaker 1: of the group.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Yes. Yeah.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Shout to Lamar Supreme.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Uh, of Tsar Face in the building.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Esoteric. 7L.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Welcome. Thank you. What up, man? Thank you.
- 1:06Speaker 1: You guys are, as I would have said when you
- 1:09Speaker 1: first walked in, you guys are of my childhood era
- 1:13Speaker 1: vintage boom bap style. you know, nerdy, nerdy rap.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Right. Right.
- 1:20Speaker 1: You guys are like Jedi mind tricks, you know, ideas
- 1:24Speaker 1: and ability. It was like a lot of this.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Definitely. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely, man.
- 1:29Speaker 1: It was, uh, uh, past the raucous era, like right
- 1:33Speaker 1: after we were doing like Mark, Mark echo albums.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We weren't signed to raucous, but we
- 1:41Speaker 2: were in the mix. Yeah. We're trying to keep up
- 1:44Speaker 2: with raucous and, uh, You know, that was a tough task.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Yeah, so you guys are obviously from Boston.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Which, you know, if you think about Boston, like a
- 1:54Speaker 1: lot of people don't know, like I think of Guru
- 1:55Speaker 1: when I first think of Boston.
- 1:56Speaker 2: So do I.
- 1:58Speaker 1: But some people think of Benzino.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:00Speaker 1: And the Maid Men and all that stuff. Yeah, absolutely, yeah.
- 2:04Speaker 1: What was it like, though, coming out of Boston, like
- 2:06Speaker 1: I guess during that era of just, in my opinion,
- 2:10Speaker 1: like the golden era of like, Because I feel like
- 2:12Speaker 1: today's definition, when the kids say underground rap, they mean
- 2:17Speaker 1: Nine Vicious and Playboi Carti.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:20Speaker 1: The golden era of when there was this hip-hop snob
- 2:25Speaker 1: thing going on. It was like, yo, that's real hip-hop.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 2:28Speaker 1: The boom bap, the backpack shit versus the commercial shit.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Yes.
- 2:31Speaker 1: What was it like coming out of Boston during that time, man?
- 2:35Speaker 2: I think it was pretty exciting and challenging at the
- 2:38Speaker 2: same time because we kind of recognized both playing fields.
- 2:41Speaker 2: And we saw what a lot of people were doing
- 2:43Speaker 2: on a major level, commercial level. We knew what we
- 2:46Speaker 2: were doing on an indie level and trying to fine
- 2:48Speaker 2: tune things, but keep it authentic with what we wanted
- 2:51Speaker 2: to do. And I mean, you know, maybe, maybe we
- 2:55Speaker 2: felt a little gatekeepy at that time about what, you know,
- 2:59Speaker 2: from a purist standpoint of what hip hop should be.
- 3:01Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 3:02Speaker 1: I was a little, so I grew up, I had
- 3:05Speaker 1: a unique perspective on that world because my best friend
- 3:08Speaker 1: since I was three's brother is Ira Science from Dilated Peoples.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 3:12Speaker 1: So when I was a little kid, like, I went to, like,
- 3:15Speaker 1: the Dilated Peoples, like, platform release show and, like, all
- 3:18Speaker 1: kinds of, so I got to kind of see, like,
- 3:20Speaker 1: but I also, like, grew up, like, loving, like, No
- 3:21Speaker 1: Limit Records.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, okay, yeah.
- 3:24Speaker 1: But I very much, like, remember being, like, my transition from, like,
- 3:28Speaker 1: kind of just being, like, like a DMX, Jay-Z, Puff Daddy,
- 3:32Speaker 1: No Limit fan to being, like, a snob.
- 3:35Speaker 2: The gatekeepy dude? Yeah, yeah.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Who like looked down on people?
- 3:38Speaker 2: Yeah. It was a real period for a time where
- 3:41Speaker 2: I really felt, you know, I was really hooked on
- 3:44Speaker 2: everyone that we grew up with listening to that inspired us.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:47Speaker 2: And I would not let that go. So that was
- 3:49Speaker 2: like the hallmark of what everything should be like. And
- 3:52Speaker 2: if you deviated that way or this way, you were
- 3:54Speaker 2: fucking up. You know what I mean?
- 3:55Speaker 1: Like I just remember like there was like a real divide.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Like a specific example that I think was funny was
- 4:00Speaker 1: like I remember when Kanye put freeway and most deaf
- 4:05Speaker 1: on the same song on college dropout. And at the
- 4:07Speaker 1: time it was like weird. Yeah.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Obviously then like freeway goes on to have like a
- 4:12Speaker 1: rhyme sayers run and like a whole album.
- 4:15Speaker 2: With Jake one.
- 4:16Speaker 1: And like, but back then it was like Jay-Z and
- 4:19Speaker 1: Talib quality felt like, Different planets.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Yes, yes. And then Jay wound up referencing him with
- 4:25Speaker 2: that iconic line.
- 4:26Speaker 1: He did, in Common Sense. Lyrically, I be Talib Kweli,
- 4:30Speaker 1: but it's so crazy. But it's like, now I look
- 4:32Speaker 1: back and I'm just like, damn, I was a dick. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I think, you know, we had it good.
- 4:38Speaker 3: We had it good.
- 4:41Speaker 2: We had it good. And I feel like... you know,
- 4:44Speaker 2: speaking for myself, seven L might have a different take.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Cause he, he was DJing in the club. So he
- 4:48Speaker 2: had to play a lot of stuff that everybody knew.
- 4:50Speaker 2: And there was a lot of dope shit there too,
- 4:52Speaker 2: which I might've disregarded in favor of like Scaramanga or
- 4:55Speaker 2: Godfather Don or so, you know, Cenobites, whoever it might be.
- 4:59Speaker 2: And I think I might've missed out on a lot
- 5:01Speaker 2: of music in its prime. That was probably, you know,
- 5:05Speaker 2: something I could have enjoyed if I just loosened up
- 5:07Speaker 2: the straps on my backpack. You know what I'm saying? Um,
- 5:11Speaker 2: You know, when Dipset came out, I was really into Dipset,
- 5:14Speaker 2: and I felt that was a bridge.
- 5:16Speaker 1: It was a bridge for sure. It was definitely a bridge.
- 5:18Speaker 1: They had those soul samples, like Heatmaker's production was crazy.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Right, right. But, yeah, we came up in that era
- 5:25Speaker 2: looking up to Guru, looking up to RSO, Top Choice Click.
- 5:29Speaker 2: There's so many Boston crews that were doing it before us.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Orange Man. Orange Man, yeah. And, you know.
- 5:35Speaker 1: It's crazy because I kind of think, like, I give
- 5:36Speaker 1: Kanye some credit for bridging the two worlds and Dave Chappelle.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Oh, for sure. Yeah.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Chappelle had that cover, that XXL cover, where it was, like,
- 5:44Speaker 1: Dead Prez and Yay, and I think Talib was on there.
- 5:47Speaker 1: I want to say Kanye. But I feel like the
- 5:48Speaker 1: Chappelle show and Kanye helped kind of, like, bridge whatever
- 5:53Speaker 1: commercial in underground was.
- 5:55Speaker 2: At the time. Yeah. Yeah, I think there's something to
- 5:58Speaker 2: be said for that. Definitely.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Like, late registration... Or College Dropout had an evidence beat
- 6:02Speaker 1: on there. That's right.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:06Speaker 1: That's right.
- 6:06Speaker 2: That's right. Yeah, I think... When creatives get together, they
- 6:10Speaker 2: know what they have to do. And it's a lot
- 6:11Speaker 2: of public perception that might do the separating. You know
- 6:14Speaker 2: what I mean?
- 6:15Speaker 1: So is the genesis of you guys working with Deck
- 6:19Speaker 1: speaking real words?
- 6:20Speaker 2: Yep.
- 6:21Speaker 1: So that was 06? No, that was 90.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Oh, that was in the 90s? 99.
- 6:23Speaker 1: 99. Yeah. And that was our first, I guess.
- 6:33Speaker 2: It was definitely our first collaboration with Deck, but it
- 6:35Speaker 2: was this record that kind of made shockwaves within our
- 6:38Speaker 2: camps and circles because we were this indie group and
- 6:40Speaker 2: we were collaborating with Deck from Wu-Tang Clan. And it
- 6:43Speaker 2: caused a lot of... It caused a stir because I
- 6:45Speaker 2: think a lot of people were maybe feeling a little like,
- 6:49Speaker 2: why do these guys get to do that? Because the
- 6:51Speaker 2: collaborations weren't so... Yeah, it's a lot harder.
- 6:55Speaker 1: In 99 to get it... Because there's... Everyone's on a
- 6:59Speaker 1: label for the most.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Part, right? Especially.
- 7:01Speaker 1: it's back to that.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Oh yeah, for sure.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Yeah, sure.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Yeah. It's like a little harder to get clearances and okay.
- 7:05Speaker 2: You know, yeah.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Was that something like, cause I feel like back then, like,
- 7:09Speaker 1: you know, nowadays I feel like you'll see like features
- 7:11Speaker 1: that make sense and, you know, I'll see a feature
- 7:14Speaker 1: and I'll just know that, oh, that guy didn't pay
- 7:16Speaker 1: for that. They fuck with each other. Back then, did
- 7:18Speaker 1: you have to cut the Inspector Deck check?
- 7:20Speaker 2: Well, the label did, Lanspeed.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Okay. Shout out to Lanspeed. Lanspeed had the QB shit,
- 7:26Speaker 1: the screwball shit, right? Yeah.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:31Speaker 2: So our manager at the time was also working at Loud.
- 7:34Speaker 2: He was an intern at Loud, so he was able
- 7:35Speaker 2: to connect us. And yeah, Deck was to get paid
- 7:41Speaker 2: and Lanspeed got him a check. And then he never
- 7:44Speaker 2: cashed it. And then the rest is history. We became cool,
- 7:49Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Yeah, some time elapsed and
- 7:52Speaker 2: we became cool. So speaking real words, we recorded in Brooklyn.
- 7:56Speaker 2: He came up to my man's studio with Street Life, DL,
- 8:01Speaker 2: a couple other guys.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Shout out to Street Life, man.
- 8:03Speaker 2: And I was a little, and I think 7L2 was
- 8:06Speaker 2: just a little starstruck at that point. And the struggles
- 8:10Speaker 2: that I'd go through trying to compose the right rhymes
- 8:13Speaker 2: to keep up with him. Then he just came in,
- 8:16Speaker 2: we ordered a pizza, started looking at some of the
- 8:18Speaker 2: vinyl on the wall. By the time the pizza came,
- 8:20Speaker 2: his rap was done. He spit it in like 45 seconds.
- 8:23Speaker 2: And I was like, damn, that's inspected deck. And that's
- 8:27Speaker 2: how it's done. I got a lot to learn.
- 8:30Speaker 1: So you guys hit it off immediately, and does that
- 8:32Speaker 1: just turn into this relationship that you guys water over
- 8:36Speaker 1: the years?
- 8:37Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty much, you know, because 7L was feeding the
- 8:41Speaker 2: beats here and there. We had a few other collabs
- 8:43Speaker 2: that were kind of a little bit more under the radar,
- 8:45Speaker 2: but as time went on.
- 8:49Speaker 2: You suggested we formed a group together.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I was just, you know, I was mixing one
- 8:52Speaker 3: of the songs we were doing together. And on the playback,
- 8:56Speaker 3: I was just, I sent him a text being like, yo,
- 8:58Speaker 3: it would be kind of dope if, like, the two
- 8:59Speaker 3: of you just did a whole EP together. Something really
- 9:01Speaker 3: under the radar. I was even thinking, like, just do
- 9:03Speaker 3: a white label vinyl. Nothing, you know, no big push. No,
- 9:07Speaker 3: you know, nothing. Just do something for the art. And
- 9:10Speaker 3: he was like, yeah. He was like, you know, we
- 9:11Speaker 3: can talk about how we do it, but I'll see
- 9:13Speaker 3: what Dec thinks. And Dec was, like, down.
- 9:15Speaker 2: You know, we didn't have.
- 9:17Speaker 1: What year is this? Because the first album was 2013, right?
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:20Speaker 1: So what year was this where you guys kind of
- 9:21Speaker 1: just were like, okay, this is something we're down to
- 9:24Speaker 1: figure out. 2010 maybe?
- 9:25Speaker 3: Wow.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Yeah, 2010, 2011. And I kind of thought he was
- 9:29Speaker 2: crazy even thinking of it because I was the one
- 9:32Speaker 2: that was in contact with Dex. I was like, yeah,
- 9:33Speaker 2: hit him up.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Ask him.
- 9:34Speaker 2: And I was like, So you want.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Me to ask?
- 9:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:38Speaker 1: It's your fucking idea. You ask.
- 9:40Speaker 2: 100%. But I was like, all right, I mean, what
- 9:42Speaker 2: do we got to lose, man? And I reached out
- 9:44Speaker 2: and he was like, you know, that might be pretty dope,
- 9:47Speaker 2: you know? And then we went out to Staten Island
- 9:50Speaker 2: and we recorded a lot of it out there at
- 9:52Speaker 2: Remedy Studio. And it just grew from there, man. And
- 9:58Speaker 2: when it started, we didn't have a name for the group.
- 10:00Speaker 2: And then Dec had suggested, why don't we call ourselves
- 10:03Speaker 2: like the Bomb Techs, like Bomb Technicians. And I thought
- 10:06Speaker 2: that was kind of cool, but it was kind of
- 10:10Speaker 2: falling back into, the world of the backpacker.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Yes, it feels, that's a very.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Right? Yes. Yes, and so we thought a little while longer,
- 10:20Speaker 2: and we came up with Zarface in the character, and
- 10:23Speaker 2: it grew from there. And I remember when I had
- 10:25Speaker 2: the name Zarface, I was talking to Seven, and I
- 10:28Speaker 2: was like, I'm going to pitch him on Zarface, see
- 10:30Speaker 2: what he thinks.
- 10:31Speaker 1: What was your thought? How did you land on that idea?
- 10:35Speaker 2: I was just trying to think of a dope name
- 10:38Speaker 2: for a character, because I thought if we had this
- 10:41Speaker 2: like an icon or like a figurehead mascot, so to speak,
- 10:47Speaker 2: that people can kind of be drawn to, that can represent.
- 10:50Speaker 2: The group. Yeah, and kind of be where our roads meet.
- 10:53Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Smart. Like Dec coming from
- 10:55Speaker 2: Staten Island, us coming from Boston, the stuff that we're into,
- 10:58Speaker 2: we kind of meet in the middle with like comic
- 10:59Speaker 2: book stuff and everything. And I thought about Czar Face,
- 11:03Speaker 2: and I remember talking to him for, probably sat on
- 11:06Speaker 2: it for 48 hours. I'm like, I don't know. Cause
- 11:07Speaker 2: it's ghost face. What if ghost face gets mad that
- 11:10Speaker 2: we're doing?
- 11:11Speaker 1: Honestly, it's like, like valid concern.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. At that time. But now as you get
- 11:15Speaker 2: to know the guys who work with ghost face and
- 11:17Speaker 2: work with these guys, I was probably never a concern,
- 11:20Speaker 2: you know? And, and, but in our mind, it could
- 11:23Speaker 2: have been, uh, you know, biting, but, uh, not. And then,
- 11:26Speaker 2: and then czar face, uh, became what it is now.
- 11:29Speaker 2: And we got, you know.
- 11:30Speaker 1: You already know, baby, our family at odd socks, they
- 11:33Speaker 1: have been rocking with the bootleg head podcast since day one.
- 11:36Speaker 1: And listen, man, the basics have been killing it. All right.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Whether you're into the ankle socks, the quarter socks, the
- 11:42Speaker 1: tube socks, black, white, whatever it is. Um, odd socks, basics.
- 11:45Speaker 1: These are the most comfortable socks that you will ever
- 11:47Speaker 1: put on your feet. And I've been saying that for
- 11:49Speaker 1: years and I mean, it's the only socks I wear
- 11:52Speaker 1: the only socks in my house. Um, and yeah, Obviously,
- 11:56Speaker 1: there's competing brands that you might be used to wearing
- 11:59Speaker 1: the white tube socks. Listen, not only are these better,
- 12:03Speaker 1: they're more affordable and they're more comfortable. And when I
- 12:06Speaker 1: say more affordable, I'm not playing. You could get yourself
- 12:08Speaker 1: a six pack just like this for only $ 16. 99. And
- 12:12Speaker 1: the good thing about Odd Socks, they now got the
- 12:14Speaker 1: subscription service too. So if you just want fresh, clean
- 12:17Speaker 1: socks delivered every single month, they'll take care of you there.

- 12:32Speaker 1: I don't care if it's Snoop Dogg and his team,
- 12:34Speaker 1: the Alchemist, anybody, Freddie, everybody who gets these socks, hit
- 12:40Speaker 1: me like, yo, tell Odd Socks we need a new box.
- 12:43Speaker 1: The basics, the basics, the basics, all right? Oddsocks.com. Use
- 12:46Speaker 1: the promo code BOOTLEG. Save 20% off. Let's get back
- 12:48Speaker 1: into the interview. So, like, you pitched the idea to Dak.
- 12:52Speaker 1: You already have the idea that you want a character,
- 12:54Speaker 1: like a mascot.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Like, first of all, like, how do you land, how
- 13:01Speaker 1: many different renditions of the mascot are there? And then
- 13:04Speaker 1: how did you guys finally kind of land on, like,
- 13:07Speaker 1: this is it? And now, like, obviously I'm sure you
- 13:10Speaker 1: guys couldn't anticipate the world that it's created.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Right, right, right.
- 13:16Speaker 1: But, like, what was the, like, I guess kind of the, like,
- 13:19Speaker 1: lead up to finally landing on What the guy looked
- 13:23Speaker 1: like and what Czar Face looked like.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Yeah, in the first few conversations, because we had a
- 13:28Speaker 2: few records done already before we really ran with the
- 13:31Speaker 2: concept of Czar Face. But he had the idea. He
- 13:34Speaker 2: was he agreed with the name. He was like, yeah,
- 13:37Speaker 2: that's a dope name. And I was like, all right, cool.
- 13:39Speaker 2: And we're off and running. And he's like, how about
- 13:41Speaker 2: we do something like like. like Scarface, like Tony Montana,
- 13:46Speaker 2: but it'd be two of our faces or three of us. And,
- 13:49Speaker 2: and I was like, well, I'm kind of like leaning
- 13:51Speaker 2: more towards, you know, this type of guy. And I
- 13:54Speaker 2: would describe Ultron and Dr. Doom and, you know, some
- 13:57Speaker 2: Marvel characters. And then I, we linked with a little
- 13:59Speaker 2: more Supreme who I first, he first caught my eye.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Cause his artwork really struck, uh, like this Jack Kirby
- 14:06Speaker 2: vibe from like the, Silver Age of Comics, and I
- 14:10Speaker 2: was like, let's get in touch with L'Amour, see what
- 14:11Speaker 2: he can do, and describe what we're looking for, and
- 14:14Speaker 2: then L'Amour came up with the likeness of him, and
- 14:16Speaker 2: I showed Dec, and Dec's like, yo, that's dope, and so.
- 14:19Speaker 1: He hit it at the park the first, first, he
- 14:22Speaker 1: really did, yeah, he really did, yeah, he really did,
- 14:25Speaker 1: because we, we spoke about it for a while, I'm like,
- 14:27Speaker 1: I want the guy to be, you know.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Armor-plated, and fangs, and stuff, and he just delivered it,
- 14:32Speaker 2: and he, you know, we're such big fans of his art,
- 14:35Speaker 2: I feel like Whatever he came with was going to
- 14:37Speaker 2: be within the field of what we were looking for,
- 14:40Speaker 2: you know? And I just... Yeah, pretty happy. He's had
- 14:45Speaker 2: different iterations since when we started making the action figures
- 14:47Speaker 2: and stuff. His look changed a little bit here and there,
- 14:49Speaker 2: but we're just kind of.
- 14:51Speaker 1: No, I mean, I think the aesthetic... I mean, just
- 14:52Speaker 1: like there's Spider-Man, there's different Spider-Mans.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. There's the Bat-Mans. Yes, completely, yeah. So, you know,
- 14:57Speaker 2: we got Czar Noir, who's like this robotic Czar face
- 15:00Speaker 2: who's in all black, and a couple different spin-offs.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Like, when you guys... Because I'm assuming you don't know
- 15:06Speaker 1: this is going to turn into a thing. I'm sure
- 15:08Speaker 1: you're approaching it like, this is a one-off.
- 15:11Speaker 2: There was no album title for the first album. It's
- 15:12Speaker 2: just Starface. And it's at Inspector Deck on the cover.
- 15:17Speaker 2: And I regret not making it a title now because
- 15:20Speaker 2: it grew into so much other stuff. But yeah, that
- 15:22Speaker 2: first album, we just thought it was going to be
- 15:23Speaker 2: one and done. But I think when that album came out,
- 15:26Speaker 2: I think it was Deck who was like, yo, we
- 15:28Speaker 2: got to do another one. Get Jizz on it. Get
- 15:31Speaker 2: Meth on it. I was like, you can get Matt
- 15:33Speaker 2: and Giza? He's like, oh, yeah. And then.
- 15:35Speaker 1: I mean, I would hope, yeah, of course.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Well, in my mind, because, you know, I'm working with
- 15:39Speaker 2: one of the greats, but still fanning out at the
- 15:41Speaker 2: same time, you know? What.
- 15:45Speaker 1: How does the relation... I always wonder, like, how does
- 15:48Speaker 1: the relationship with Lamar build into, like, okay, this is
- 15:55Speaker 1: something that we got to figure out because you're the
- 15:57Speaker 1: kind of the... Like, he's so... The art and the
- 16:00Speaker 1: imagery of the music is... as important as the music.
- 16:04Speaker 1: This is kind of like the only time I think
- 16:06Speaker 1: in hip hop we've seen something where it's like the artwork,
- 16:10Speaker 1: the character is as important as the music. There's a
- 16:13Speaker 1: lot of people who love you guys that don't know
- 16:14Speaker 1: who the fuck y'all are.
- 16:16Speaker 2: That's special to me. That's really important because we kind
- 16:19Speaker 2: of branch out. There are people that collect the action
- 16:21Speaker 2: figures and they don't really know the music as well.
- 16:23Speaker 2: There are people that collect the comic books and they
- 16:26Speaker 2: don't know about the figures or the music. So we
- 16:28Speaker 2: have kind of different worlds. When we go to Comic-Con,
- 16:30Speaker 2: we're getting really what would be the word? Particular people that,
- 16:36Speaker 2: you know, they're going to hand you your comic to sign,
- 16:37Speaker 2: but don't touch that part of the comic. Don't touch this.
- 16:39Speaker 2: It's got to be this. It's a serious world. Yeah.
- 16:42Speaker 2: And then you've got people coming up to us like, yo,
- 16:43Speaker 2: that shit is dope. I love the way you flipped
- 16:45Speaker 2: that line and came in after deck or whatever it
- 16:47Speaker 2: is that don't give a fuck about comics. So we're
- 16:50Speaker 2: able to create like three different lanes and L'Amour Supreme
- 16:53Speaker 2: as the artist, he really gives the covers, you know,
- 16:58Speaker 2: the identity of the album. You know what I mean?
- 17:00Speaker 2: Because you look at it. So, l'amour supreme is a
- 17:03Speaker 2: uh i love the way you kick this show off
- 17:05Speaker 2: saying he's like the fourth i feel like he's a
- 17:07Speaker 2: part of the group he is he is but he's
- 17:08Speaker 2: always like on his skateboard in the village and you're
- 17:11Speaker 2: just trying to like wrangle him and stuff you know
- 17:13Speaker 2: i mean i can't get him to show up to
- 17:14Speaker 2: the studio you know he might come by with an
- 17:17Speaker 2: easel and just draw a leg and he's gone for
- 17:19Speaker 2: another two.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Hours like how much input do you guys have when
- 17:22Speaker 1: it comes to the comic books and stuff or do
- 17:23Speaker 1: you write them so you're right so you're writing.
- 17:25Speaker 2: The comics yeah yeah yeah which is a big part
- 17:29Speaker 2: of it for me you know what i mean uh
- 17:31Speaker 2: carrying on that part of czar face and.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Uh that's also got to be like a childhood dream.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Absolutely it's been an itch i wanted to scratch since
- 17:37Speaker 2: back in the day because i was writing comics before
- 17:39Speaker 2: i was rapping so like when i was like a
- 17:41Speaker 2: real little kid you know and comics were teaching me
- 17:43Speaker 2: how to read you know what i mean batman superman
- 17:45Speaker 2: spider-man all these things like okay telekinesis i know right
- 17:48Speaker 2: now i know what that is or and um let
- 17:50Speaker 2: me create my own guys so i created nocturnal night
- 17:54Speaker 2: and diurnal Duke. And they were like adversaries. And I
- 17:56Speaker 2: was like, these are my comics, but my art was terrible.
- 17:59Speaker 2: And my writing was terrible, but I mean, I was
- 18:00Speaker 2: creating them, but you're a kid, man. Yeah. And I
- 18:02Speaker 2: was just, you know, it's, I wanted to scratch. And
- 18:05Speaker 2: then now we, uh, I'm writing the comics and I,
- 18:08Speaker 2: I did some things, uh, that, you know, graphic novels
- 18:11Speaker 2: and it's been, been, uh, a blessing.
- 18:15Speaker 1: It's definitely like its own thing. Like, I feel like, uh,
- 18:18Speaker 1: one of my good friends, DJ Amen is a very big, uh,
- 18:22Speaker 1: very big toy comic bro yeah he's a great dude
- 18:24Speaker 1: great dude because you guys did the super seven toy
- 18:27Speaker 1: right yep yeah yeah shots of super seven on the
- 18:29Speaker 1: bay um but like i i go to comic con
- 18:33Speaker 1: with him now and i'm just or i'll go to
- 18:36Speaker 1: like designer con like and it's just such a it's
- 18:39Speaker 1: such it's dope yeah but it's just like like you
- 18:42Speaker 1: said it's its.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Own thing man yeah yeah i love it there and
- 18:46Speaker 2: it's All the different cons. I mean, it's just, it's
- 18:48Speaker 2: a great vibe.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I feel like hip hop, we're pretentious in hip hop.
- 18:52Speaker 2: We can be.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Our fans, they're like ice grilling, you know what I'm saying? Like,
- 18:56Speaker 1: don't step on my sneakers. Fucking Comic-Con, motherfuckers is dressed
- 18:59Speaker 1: like Ryu.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Not Ryu from Styles and Beyond, but... Shout out to Ryu, though.
- 19:07Speaker 1: But yeah, like, you know, there's fucking... It's just like
- 19:10Speaker 1: everyone's just crazy.
- 19:12Speaker 2: And everyone there is having the time of their life.
- 19:14Speaker 2: They enjoy that, and they're living out whatever they want
- 19:16Speaker 2: to do, and that's what's great about it. And there's
- 19:19Speaker 2: been a lot of hip-hop that's been brought into the
- 19:21Speaker 2: Comic Con, you know, the conventions and stuff, and we've
- 19:24Speaker 2: had the opportunity to speak on panels with Chuck D
- 19:26Speaker 2: from Public Enemy, DMC, Todd McFarlane, like all these icons. Prodigy. Prodigy. Yeah, Prodigy.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Lodge Professor, Ice-T, and just being able to merge the
- 19:38Speaker 2: world of hip-hop and comics, just my first loves and
- 19:40Speaker 2: continue to, you know. Well, I feel like you.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Guys are kind of like, pie. I mean, I'm not
- 19:44Speaker 1: saying that there has been crosses in the world before,
- 19:47Speaker 1: but like, I feel like on a consistent basis, like
- 19:50Speaker 1: I feel like you look at like something Mass Appeal
- 19:51Speaker 1: did last year at New York Comic Con.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. It was huge. It was crazy.
- 19:55Speaker 1: It's a big deal.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely.
- 19:57Speaker 2: You were saying, you were about to say a word, pie.
- 19:59Speaker 2: I don't know if you were going to finish that thought.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Would you say pioneers? Is that what you were going
- 20:03Speaker 2: to say?
- 20:03Speaker 1: That's what I was going to say.
- 20:07Speaker 2: I'd be quick to correct you and say we weren't
- 20:08Speaker 2: we aren't pioneers but yeah we definitely lean into it.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Yeah I feel like you guys have made it a
- 20:13Speaker 1: thing that is like it's a one-on-one thing yeah you
- 20:16Speaker 1: know what's crazy too is like you guys started your
- 20:19Speaker 1: shit like around the time I'm trying to think in
- 20:23Speaker 1: my head kind of around the same time that like
- 20:26Speaker 1: Run the Jewels started running yeah similar yeah right yep
- 20:29Speaker 1: yeah and it's so crazy because it's like Killer Mike
- 20:32Speaker 1: and LP yeah sounded crazy but then they put out
- 20:36Speaker 1: that rap music album and everybody loved it and then
- 20:39Speaker 1: it turned into this and like right and like obviously
- 20:42Speaker 1: they have like a lot of they don't have a
- 20:44Speaker 1: comic book but they're in video games but it's kind
- 20:46Speaker 1: of cool it's been kind of cool to watch like
- 20:48Speaker 1: you guys each kind of.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Yeah we get that we get we hear that a
- 20:52Speaker 2: lot because it's you know it's me and deck and
- 20:54Speaker 2: then it's lp and killer mike and then you know
- 20:57Speaker 2: um Yeah, it's been a cool thing to watch, man.
- 21:00Speaker 2: They've had an incredible career, and now we have LP
- 21:03Speaker 2: on our album and everything.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Shout out to LP, man.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 21:06Speaker 1: One of the great whites.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:12Speaker 1: I always put my white top five together, and he's
- 21:14Speaker 1: in there.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Yeah. That's good. That's good. You know your stuff. What
- 21:18Speaker 2: about I see the Phoenix Suns versus Tom Chambers?
- 21:20Speaker 1: Unfortunately for me, I'm from Arizona. No, I'm talking about
- 21:23Speaker 1: hip-hop whites.
- 21:23Speaker 2: No, I know.
- 21:24Speaker 1: All-time whites. Tom Chambers. I'm more of a Thunder Dan guy.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, Marley.
- 21:29Speaker 1: He took us to the finals with Barkley.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Right, right. I'm more from the Chambers era.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Shout out to Chambers, though. So I want to know,
- 21:38Speaker 1: how do you guys end up? Because obviously, Frankie Pulitzer,
- 21:43Speaker 1: we know who that is.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Frankie Pulitzer. That's who he is. Right.
- 21:49Speaker 1: So he may or may not be a famous movie
- 21:51Speaker 1: star who can rap very, very well. And we've seen
- 21:57Speaker 1: videos and stuff from Tom Hardy where we're like, oh, shit.
- 22:02Speaker 1: What the fuck? This guy could spit. Who approaches who?
- 22:07Speaker 1: And is he a fan of Zarface? Because you guys
- 22:11Speaker 1: always do the meets, like Zarface meets, and this is Zarface.
- 22:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Meets Frankie Pulitzer. Feels like a real official kickoff to
- 22:19Speaker 1: like his musical footprint officially.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Absolutely. Frankie Pulitzer's, yeah.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Frankie Pulitzer. Not Tom Hardy.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Frankie Pulitzer.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Definitely not the same guy. So Frankie Pulitzer. So like,
- 22:34Speaker 1: does Frankie Pulitzer DM you? And do you say, oh shit,
- 22:38Speaker 1: it's Bane. I mean, it's Frankie Pulitzer.
- 22:41Speaker 2: First of all, Frankie Pulitzer has a mask on. Right,
- 22:43Speaker 2: of course.
- 22:44Speaker 1: No idea who the fuck he is.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Right, I know. So there's no connection there, but.
- 22:48Speaker 1: You guys are a fucking armor-plated fucking bruh with superpowers
- 22:52Speaker 1: and fangs.
- 22:52Speaker 2: I get it. Go ahead. Go off, kid. How's it start?
- 22:58Speaker 2: Everything we did for this album, we did in person
- 23:01Speaker 2: with Frankie. So there was nothing that was coming through...
- 23:06Speaker 2: emails although we you know we talk you know and
- 23:09Speaker 2: he's a he's a facetime guy despite wearing a mask
- 23:11Speaker 2: so it's like if i get that call i'm like
- 23:14Speaker 2: yeah i'm in the shower i go grab the thing
- 23:16Speaker 2: all right.
- 23:17Speaker 1: But but i'm in terms of like he's a fan
- 23:20Speaker 1: i'm obviously you're a fan because you watch.
- 23:24Speaker 2: So stuff check it out so we can talk about
- 23:27Speaker 2: tom right tom hardy he's a great great idea by
- 23:30Speaker 2: the way mob.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Last season two is about to go crazy.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Absolutely absolutely You know, I was supposed to get killed
- 23:36Speaker 2: in Moblin Season 2, but it never happened. I don't know.
- 23:39Speaker 2: But Tom did put me in Venom 3, so I
- 23:41Speaker 2: got a little cameo in Venom 3. It's kind of
- 23:43Speaker 2: like this.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Only Venom I didn't see, and I got to watch it.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Yes, you do. Well, you got to watch that 15 seconds,
- 23:48Speaker 2: because that's the most. No, but you should watch it.
- 23:51Speaker 2: I love it. But he was able to put our
- 23:54Speaker 2: music in Venom 2 and Venom 3, and the music,
- 23:57Speaker 2: the Tsarface songs that are in there, that 7L produced,
- 24:02Speaker 2: I would categorize as really hard-hitting, unapologetic, boom-bap hip-hop. Something
- 24:07Speaker 2: you would never traditionally see in a Marvel movie or
- 24:10Speaker 2: a major motion picture. You know what I'm saying? So
- 24:13Speaker 2: Tom really went to bat for us and for what
- 24:16Speaker 2: he liked. He reached out to us, and I remember
- 24:19Speaker 2: I got the call one morning. It was like February
- 24:21Speaker 2: in the winter, and I'm walking my two dogs. It's
- 24:23Speaker 2: like 6 a.m., and he's in London or whatever, and
- 24:27Speaker 2: the phone rings. It's like a London number, and I
- 24:29Speaker 2: was like, hello, it's Tom. I'm not going to try
- 24:31Speaker 2: to do his accent, but I got the two dogs
- 24:33Speaker 2: like this. I got the two dogs in a, in
- 24:36Speaker 2: a bag of shit in my, you know, I.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Got three dogs.
- 24:40Speaker 2: I've been on that walk. Okay.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Absolutely. But now I'm talking to Tom Hardy. I'm trying
- 24:46Speaker 2: to be composed. I'm like, yeah. Hey, Oh, what's up, man?
- 24:48Speaker 2: How are you? You know, it was good. You know,
- 24:50Speaker 2: and we started talking, I'm walking the dogs like this,
- 24:51Speaker 2: trying to pretend. And I know this was right as
- 24:54Speaker 2: the pandemic was kicking off and we kind of became
- 24:56Speaker 2: good friends. And, and, um, And you know, he's a
- 24:59Speaker 2: hip hop head to the bone, you know?
- 25:01Speaker 1: So he's just a fan first.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. He could sit down and have the same
- 25:05Speaker 2: conversation with you about dilated peoples, about anything from 90s
- 25:08Speaker 2: hip hop.
- 25:08Speaker 1: He's a hip hop head.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 25:10Speaker 1: I mean, it's, it's obvious.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. And, and yeah, I guess it is, I
- 25:15Speaker 2: guess it is obvious, but you know, anything to do
- 25:19Speaker 2: with Frankie Pulitzer, we can get into that next if
- 25:21Speaker 2: you want.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Yeah. So how like soon did you realize like he
- 25:27Speaker 1: was like Frankie and was like a very talented rapper.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Because Frankie is rapping his ass off on this album.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Yeah, he's dope. He's dope. What do you think?
- 25:42Speaker 3: Well, I think it was... We did a few demos
- 25:45Speaker 3: that just came out amazing, pretty flawless. I thought he
- 25:50Speaker 3: fit in well with Esoteric and Deck.
- 25:54Speaker 1: And.
- 25:55Speaker 3: yeah we just it kind of started like that we're
- 25:56Speaker 3: just doing a couple songs for fun and over time
- 26:00Speaker 3: started recording more and more and you know after the
- 26:02Speaker 3: course of.
- 26:03Speaker 2: A couple years yeah we have.
- 26:05Speaker 3: You know and this you know some of the tracks
- 26:06Speaker 3: actually didn't make the cut but uh yeah we recorded
- 26:09Speaker 3: just a ton of songs together it was just it
- 26:11Speaker 3: was just for the fun it was really no plan
- 26:12Speaker 3: it's like you know let's.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Just like let's like let's just fuck around yeah it
- 26:17Speaker 1: turns into like hey we got enough like maybe we.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Should Well, once it reached a certain number, eight or
- 26:22Speaker 3: nine songs, then it was like, okay, why don't we
- 26:23Speaker 3: like maybe, you know, format these a little more traditional songs,
- 26:27Speaker 3: less like freestyles. A lot of them were just back
- 26:29Speaker 3: to back, you know, just trading off and stuff. And
- 26:32Speaker 3: it kind of just grew from there. A little bit
- 26:33Speaker 3: in the way Czarface over time grew into what it's
- 26:36Speaker 3: grown into. The Frankie project kind of came together. You know,
- 26:40Speaker 3: it came together purely out of. let's just have some fun,
- 26:43Speaker 3: make some records together.
- 26:43Speaker 2: There's really no.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Does Inspector Deck trip out at first? Like how good
- 26:47Speaker 1: Frankie Pulitzer is at rapping? Yeah, absolutely.
- 26:51Speaker 2: And it's one of those things where he gets better
- 26:54Speaker 2: over time because we've been working on this stuff from,
- 26:57Speaker 2: I don't know, probably 2020, like right when the pandemic
- 27:01Speaker 2: kicked in, you know, and his sword just gets sharper
- 27:05Speaker 2: and sharper because he's very, very dialed in, very passionate. Yeah.
- 27:09Speaker 2: And there's not, you know, I might have more, we
- 27:14Speaker 2: might have more songs with Frankie Pulitzer than we have
- 27:18Speaker 2: with anybody else. We've been in the game for 30 years.
- 27:21Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 27:21Speaker 1: You've been working since the pandemic.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:23Speaker 1: That's a lot.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Yeah. But he's cooking and he's, you know, I really,
- 27:26Speaker 2: I think, you know, you can attest to this. We
- 27:28Speaker 2: haven't really worked with someone as passionate and driven as
- 27:32Speaker 2: this guy to getting it right and crushing it. And
- 27:36Speaker 2: it's been very inspiring, you know?
- 27:38Speaker 1: I feel like after this, it would make sense if
- 27:40Speaker 1: you executive produced his first solo album.
- 27:42Speaker 2: All right. Here we go. Here we go.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Put it out there.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:47Speaker 1: It's just an idea.
- 27:47Speaker 2: No, no, no, no. For sure.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I mean, you've been working for six years.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:51Speaker 1: I'm assuming there's a lot of solo Frankie Pulitzer.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Shit that you make.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It should go no other way. Yeah, yeah.
- 27:58Speaker 2: For sure. For sure. Maybe that's on the horizon.
- 28:01Speaker 1: No, I think that'd be incredible. So talk to me, man,
- 28:05Speaker 1: because you guys were... blessed enough to have a great
- 28:08Speaker 1: relationship with doom. Doom is somebody who I've never seen
- 28:15Speaker 1: somebody who was like niche underground when I was coming
- 28:18Speaker 1: up translate to like a generation of like kids, like
- 28:22Speaker 1: my son and his homies are in high school and
- 28:25Speaker 1: they love MF doom, which I don't understand.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:29Speaker 1: But I love it.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:31Speaker 1: So I'm like, Oh, you guys like MF doom.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Let me show you this.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Um, But can you, you guys did an entire
- 28:38Speaker 1: album with Doom, and obviously he was, was he on
- 28:41Speaker 1: your first album? He was on your first album.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Second album.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Second album. Yep. What was, like, I feel like he
- 28:47Speaker 1: was such a, you know, mysterious guy.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Yeah. And that's kind of how it's always been. Yeah.
- 28:54Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 28:56Speaker 3: We never really, yeah, got beyond that wall either.
- 28:58Speaker 1: I was going to say, like, was there sessions or
- 29:00Speaker 1: was it like?
- 29:01Speaker 2: No, no. There's been a lot of communication. You know
- 29:05Speaker 2: what I mean?
- 29:05Speaker 1: So he was saying that when you guys were working together,
- 29:08Speaker 1: Because I wasn't just so curious about his creative process
- 29:10Speaker 1: because he was such an alien.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Yeah. So I think, you know, at the time we
- 29:13Speaker 2: were making these records, you know what I'm saying, he
- 29:15Speaker 2: was in a secret hideout. You know what I'm saying?
- 29:17Speaker 1: Right.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Where I think earlier in his career, you know what
- 29:20Speaker 2: I mean, there's a better chance of him rolling up
- 29:22Speaker 2: to the lab and doing something. But we didn't get
- 29:24Speaker 2: this stuff off the ground until, you know, the first
- 29:26Speaker 2: record we did was probably 2014 or something.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Did you guys ever meet?
- 29:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:31Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Yeah, we met. Yeah, yeah. But that was New Eureka days,
- 29:34Speaker 2: back in the day. In the 90s, yeah.
- 29:36Speaker 3: Like one of his first shows I think no I
- 29:38Speaker 3: don't want to say it's the first one of them.
- 29:40Speaker 2: It was the first.
- 29:41Speaker 3: It was the first, yeah. So the first show is.
- 29:42Speaker 1: First MF Doom show?
- 29:44Speaker 3: That he did as MF Doom, yeah.
- 29:45Speaker 2: With the mask.
- 29:45Speaker 3: Yeah, well, it was actually... He was wearing a stocking
- 29:49Speaker 3: cap that was cut down.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Wow.
- 29:51Speaker 3: I want to say it was mega long. We had
- 29:54Speaker 3: two other people on stage with him, and... Yeah, they
- 29:58Speaker 3: just all had kind of similar outfits, like stocking caps
- 30:00Speaker 3: pulled down right over their nose, tank tops and, like,
- 30:04Speaker 3: jean shorts and Timberlands. And I remember Giant Case of Heineken,
- 30:08Speaker 3: and they just... He did, you know, the three songs
- 30:10Speaker 3: he had out, and it just bounced.
- 30:12Speaker 2: That was it.
- 30:12Speaker 3: It was In-N-Out, and, you know, and we were like, oh.
- 30:14Speaker 1: I saw him once live, and I think he... It
- 30:19Speaker 1: was either him and Immortal Technique or him and Talib Kweli.
- 30:22Speaker 1: I don't remember the tour, but it was one of
- 30:23Speaker 1: those two. It was at the Brick House in Arizona.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:26Speaker 1: And I was right up front, up against the gate.
- 30:29Speaker 1: And he had open-toed sandals on. And so MF Doom's
- 30:33Speaker 1: toes are in my face the entire show. And man,
- 30:37Speaker 1: he had some thangs on him.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Oh, he was stuck.
- 30:41Speaker 1: I can only look at his feet the entire show.
- 30:47Speaker 1: My in-person memory of MF Doom are his feet.
- 30:51Speaker 2: I missed this whole exchange. I was communicating with him.
- 30:53Speaker 2: I think I'm happy I missed it.
- 30:58Speaker 1: He was talking about MF Doom's first show and I
- 30:59Speaker 1: was like, I got to see him live too.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Just from his feet for an hour.
- 31:03Speaker 2: So we were coming from that same circuit, kind of
- 31:06Speaker 2: the indie boom and we had already kind of idolized
- 31:09Speaker 2: him from his days with KMD and Zevlovex and then
- 31:12Speaker 2: he grew into MF Doom and we found ourselves in
- 31:15Speaker 2: the same spots as him and I'm like, is that
- 31:18Speaker 2: really Zevlovex? Is he really coming out as MF? Is
- 31:20Speaker 2: it really him? And we talked to somebody, like Ill
- 31:22Speaker 2: Bill or somebody. He's like, no, that's him. That's the dude.
- 31:24Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 31:25Speaker 3: It might have been Foz or somebody.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. It's Happy to whatever. And it was like, wow,
- 31:29Speaker 2: we're on the same. Because when you come up watching
- 31:32Speaker 2: your own TV raps and everything, there's a status. Do
- 31:35Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Of course. These people are
- 31:38Speaker 2: all superheroes. And then you find yourself, what do you
- 31:41Speaker 2: mean we're going on and then he's going on? We're
- 31:44Speaker 2: doing the same show together? We're on the same bill?
- 31:46Speaker 2: This is Zevlovex. And then here we are now.
- 31:50Speaker 1: How much of a, like is our face inspired by doom?
- 31:54Speaker 1: Cause he also kind of was, you know?
- 31:56Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh, huge. Yeah.
- 31:57Speaker 1: I mean, look, Damascus people, people have a tattoo.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. He's been, it's, it's funny. I think about
- 32:04Speaker 2: that a lot because he's been a huge influence on
- 32:07Speaker 2: us in our production, even before czar face. So the
- 32:11Speaker 2: stuff that he would sample back in the day, like
- 32:13Speaker 2: Sesame street records or, you know, whatever it was, sound bites,
- 32:17Speaker 2: you know, I'm always thinking like, ah, we had this
- 32:19Speaker 2: joint with Beyonder called Be Alert. We sampled the Transformers.
- 32:23Speaker 2: But even before that, he was sampling Spider-Man. So he's
- 32:26Speaker 2: always been ahead of the curve, and we've always been
- 32:28Speaker 2: trying to keep up. And to collab with him down
- 32:31Speaker 2: the line was like a huge, obviously a huge honor.
- 32:34Speaker 2: But the distinction, I think, is that Zarface is a
- 32:38Speaker 2: character that that exists outside where Doom is Doom and
- 32:43Speaker 2: Doom is on stage with a mask, like he is.
- 32:45Speaker 1: Like the real thing. He's walking around, you know.
- 32:51Speaker 2: Yeah, you won't see me, Deck, or 7-Eleven in a
- 32:55Speaker 2: Czar face mask. Right, right, right.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Which would be awesome if you guys just... One Comic-Con,
- 32:59Speaker 1: you just come out.
- 33:00Speaker 3: And say, fuck it.
- 33:02Speaker 1: We had some, bro. He made the suit, so I
- 33:04Speaker 1: threw this bitch on. You already know Arizona, man. The
- 33:07Speaker 1: Bootleg Head Podcast brought to you by our partners at
- 33:10Speaker 1: Raffi Law Group. Now, we love Raffi Law Group, man.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Arizona's premier personal injury firm. What I love about Raffi
- 33:16Speaker 1: is they're so dependable, so trustworthy, and they get the
- 33:18Speaker 1: job done. They've helped over 70,000 Arizonans. I know you
- 33:23Speaker 1: see the billboards everywhere. I know you can't avoid seeing
- 33:27Speaker 1: my man Rafi's face everywhere, but it's because he is
- 33:29Speaker 1: the absolute best, all right? He's helped my wife get
- 33:32Speaker 1: through an accident situation, got her paid. My mother-in-law, same situation.
- 33:37Speaker 1: My best friend's parents just used Rafi and got a
- 33:40Speaker 1: big payday. So make sure if you get into an accident,
- 33:43Speaker 1: if you need help, all right? It could be an accident.
- 33:45Speaker 1: It could be a slip and fall. It could be
- 33:47Speaker 1: any personal injury situation. They're going to take care of it,
- 33:50Speaker 1: all right? All you got to do is call Rafi.
- 33:52Speaker 1: You know what it is, man. Call Rafi.
- 33:54Speaker 2: 623-388-4333.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Rafi Law Group. The only personal injury law firm that
- 34:01Speaker 1: we will ever rock with right here on the Blue
- 34:03Speaker 1: Lake Head podcast. Right.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Yeah. And we have scenes our face at Comic Cons.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Like people dress up as in for Halloween. It's like
- 34:09Speaker 2: the highest honor. But yeah, I don't think you're going
- 34:12Speaker 2: to see us rocking the actual helmets.
- 34:15Speaker 1: I can imagine. Are you guys already figuring out who
- 34:19Speaker 1: the next meets is?
- 34:21Speaker 2: No, I don't know, man.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Would you do another Ghostface one?
- 34:25Speaker 2: Oh, we'd love to do that. You have any suggestions?
- 34:27Speaker 1: Oh, man. I feel like I'm trying to think like
- 34:31Speaker 1: somebody who's kind of from like the newer I feel
- 34:34Speaker 1: like I know this sounds random, but I feel like
- 34:36Speaker 1: you guys in Earl's sweatshirt would go crazy. Also, Freddie.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Freddie would go crazy. To bring Freddie into, like, on
- 34:42Speaker 1: some of that production, because he's obviously done the Mad
- 34:44Speaker 1: Lib thing.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:45Speaker 1: I think that would go crazy.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that would be dope, man. I like
- 34:48Speaker 2: Denzel Curry, too.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Denzel's a monster.
- 34:50Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 34:51Speaker 1: He's a monster.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Yeah. The records he does with Kenny Beats, it kind of,
- 34:55Speaker 2: you know.
- 34:55Speaker 1: No, I think Denzel would go crazy. He's got so
- 34:57Speaker 1: much range.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:58Speaker 1: So we just put it out there. Denzel, let's make
- 35:01Speaker 1: it happen.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Yeah, man. You know, if it's not going to be him,
- 35:04Speaker 2: maybe it'll be like... I don't know, another Frankie Pulitzer
- 35:07Speaker 2: joint or something. Part two. Who knows?
- 35:09Speaker 1: Sounds like that's already finished.
- 35:14Speaker 2: This is where you hit the air horn?
- 35:16Speaker 1: Six years.
- 35:17Speaker 2: I hope you got.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Two albums done in six fucking years.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Yeah, no, we stay working because we love doing it,
- 35:25Speaker 2: you know, and it's got a little touch of crazy,
- 35:28Speaker 2: both of us, so we stay plugged in and can't,
- 35:30Speaker 2: you know, can't take our foot off the gas. For you.
- 35:34Speaker 1: I always say that Inspector Deck has the greatest rap
- 35:38Speaker 1: verse of all time on Triumph. And one of the
- 35:41Speaker 1: other greatest rap verses of all time on Above the Clouds.
- 35:48Speaker 1: For you, man, does it like, obviously, like you said,
- 35:50Speaker 1: you grew up, these guys are superheroes, right? Wu-Tang Clan superheroes, right?
- 35:55Speaker 1: But just like from an MC perspective, how much better
- 36:00Speaker 1: has your pen gotten just rapping with inspect a deck
- 36:04Speaker 1: for the last 13 years. Like, it's got to push
- 36:08Speaker 1: your pen.
- 36:08Speaker 2: I think it has, yeah. I definitely push my confidence.
- 36:12Speaker 2: You know what I mean? It tested me at places
- 36:14Speaker 2: where I realized, like, okay, I got to do this
- 36:16Speaker 2: on stage with deck. I got to know how to
- 36:18Speaker 2: say this with deck and keep up with deck in
- 36:19Speaker 2: any form. You know what I mean? It's also because Zarface...
- 36:24Speaker 2: has kind of become a reality. And I feel like, okay,
- 36:27Speaker 2: we're doing this for real now. You know what I mean?
- 36:28Speaker 2: I really, really, really want to dial in and make
- 36:30Speaker 2: sure everything is as good as I can get it.
- 36:32Speaker 2: He's been a, you know, when we do our face shows,
- 36:35Speaker 2: we get to finish them by doing triumph and doing
- 36:37Speaker 2: above the clouds and doing for heaven's sake. So I'm
- 36:41Speaker 2: up there with him performing these things. And I just,
- 36:44Speaker 2: you know, as I said, we don't really take our
- 36:46Speaker 2: foot off the gas and reflect much. But I think
- 36:48Speaker 2: when we do, I'm going to sit back and just
- 36:51Speaker 2: realize that, like, I learned a lot from this guy
- 36:53Speaker 2: just by, you know, being around him. You know what
- 36:56Speaker 2: I mean? And we've had a lot of conversations about
- 36:59Speaker 2: different rhyme schemes and cadences and so forth, and he'll
- 37:03Speaker 2: remark on something that I did, and I'm like, oh, shit,
- 37:05Speaker 2: thank you, man. You know, and it's just you're in
- 37:08Speaker 2: the presence of a samurai, and I'm just kind of
- 37:12Speaker 2: watching what he does. Like, we're in the studio together.
- 37:15Speaker 2: He'll just, you know. It's embarrassing because he's sitting there,
- 37:21Speaker 2: you know, he's making the beats or whatever. And Dak
- 37:22Speaker 2: will go lay his part. And it's like, it's done.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Dope.
- 37:26Speaker 2: I'm in there.
- 37:26Speaker 1: What do you got?
- 37:27Speaker 3: I got my first four. Yeah.
- 37:32Speaker 2: I'm like, you know, let me record that. You know,
- 37:34Speaker 2: I have no problem writing it. But the delivery, I'm
- 37:37Speaker 2: a little bit more, you know, critical of. So, you know,
- 37:41Speaker 2: I just want to keep up with him.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Um, what is, cause I feel like there's so much
- 37:46Speaker 1: more that you guys can do with czar face that,
- 37:49Speaker 1: I mean, you guys do so much, the toys, the comics,
- 37:51Speaker 1: all that. Have you guys started to kind of map
- 37:53Speaker 1: out where the world of czar face, where you would
- 37:56Speaker 1: like to take it and where it's going next?
- 37:57Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. Uh, we've had a lot of, uh, ideas
- 38:02Speaker 2: and directions, you know, um, an animated series or of
- 38:05Speaker 2: course a movie or something like that, but those are
- 38:08Speaker 2: all on the table. Maybe, you know, partially in development.
- 38:12Speaker 2: There's been a lot of opportunities that we kind of
- 38:15Speaker 2: hit the brakes on.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:17Speaker 2: And we just want to do it right when it's
- 38:19Speaker 2: time to do it. But there's definitely been those situations.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Not for.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Like, shit, dude, I can imagine if, like, Adult Swim was...
- 38:24Speaker 1: Is Adult Swim still around? I think it's dead. I
- 38:28Speaker 1: think it's gone. Is it still around? Oh, well, I
- 38:30Speaker 1: feel like Adult Swim would go crazy.
- 38:31Speaker 2: Yeah, well, the three of us just fucked that up.
- 38:34Speaker 1: My camera guy has the snitch glasses on. I just
- 38:36Speaker 1: noticed he's recording. he's got us in the fucking metaverse
- 38:40Speaker 1: right now with those snitch shades.
- 38:42Speaker 2: I mean I think we're recording.
- 38:47Speaker 1: We're surrounded by fucking podcast he's got a fifth angle.
- 38:53Speaker 2: We're not doing anything too sneaky here I do have
- 38:56Speaker 2: pants on.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Fair point.
- 39:02Speaker 2: Yeah, there's been a lot of talks about things like that,
- 39:04Speaker 2: and we're super excited to make that happen, because Zarface,
- 39:08Speaker 2: as the character in the comic books and in the music,
- 39:12Speaker 2: there's a lot to be put together there, and they
- 39:15Speaker 2: can live together or separately.
- 39:18Speaker 1: You said you were on a panel with Todd McFarlane,
- 39:22Speaker 1: and when you kind of... are a part of the
- 39:24Speaker 1: Comic-Con scene in that kind of world. Like, so many
- 39:27Speaker 1: people rub shoulders with each other yeah have any of
- 39:31Speaker 1: the major like a marvel or image or anybody like
- 39:35Speaker 1: like what's top like does todd mcfarland like understand your
- 39:38Speaker 1: guys's universe like is.
- 39:39Speaker 2: He oh yeah yeah he understands talk about it yeah
- 39:42Speaker 2: he understands everybody's universe because he's just he's like a
- 39:45Speaker 2: you know soothsayer with the whole industry right he gets
- 39:48Speaker 2: it like So Zarface's cape is inspired by Spawn, who
- 39:51Speaker 2: Todd McFarlane created. And we joked about it. I thought
- 39:54Speaker 2: I was in trouble. And he was like, everyone takes
- 39:56Speaker 2: something from somebody.
- 39:57Speaker 1: He's like, all right, here's a cease and desist that
- 40:00Speaker 1: comes 90 days later. I'm like, what the fuck, Todd?
- 40:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, if you get some time with him,
- 40:07Speaker 2: he is just the best guy to talk to about
- 40:10Speaker 2: this stuff because he knows everything. And he's not stingy
- 40:13Speaker 2: with his knowledge or jewels. He spent time with my son.
- 40:17Speaker 2: My son is an artist and he sat down with
- 40:20Speaker 2: him and spoke with him. And I'm like talking to Xavier,
- 40:23Speaker 2: my son. I'm like, do you know?
- 40:24Speaker 1: He draws your son?
- 40:25Speaker 2: Yeah, he does. Yeah. And, you know, he's been a major,
- 40:28Speaker 2: major inspiration in terms of Tsar Face. Like when we
- 40:31Speaker 2: first came up with Tsar Face, it was like I
- 40:34Speaker 2: want for me personally, I want something where I can
- 40:37Speaker 2: be a full time father and still sink my teeth
- 40:39Speaker 2: in a hip hop completely. what's a good way to
- 40:42Speaker 2: marry this, this, this situation and make it work for
- 40:44Speaker 2: me personally. You know, 7L' s doing the beats, Dex doing
- 40:47Speaker 2: everything he's doing, but I need something where I'm present
- 40:49Speaker 2: here and I'm present with the music. So we came
- 40:54Speaker 2: up with Zarface and that became his personal superhero. You
- 40:57Speaker 2: know what I mean? I'm like, this is, this is
- 40:58Speaker 2: our guy, Zarface, you know? And as we grew older,
- 41:02Speaker 2: he's 17 now, but we've been doing this for over
- 41:04Speaker 2: a decade. So He's been able to grow up with
- 41:06Speaker 2: the character.
- 41:07Speaker 1: He could probably draw the fuck out of his art. Yeah.
- 41:09Speaker 2: You know, this is the one thing I'm sad about
- 41:12Speaker 2: is that he refuses to because he thinks it might
- 41:16Speaker 2: be in his head like it's too steep of a
- 41:19Speaker 2: hill to climb.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Right, right, right, right.
- 41:21Speaker 2: But our kitchen and fridge and everywhere is lined with
- 41:25Speaker 2: Green Lantern and Batman and Superman, Venom, Spider-Man. Like, he
- 41:29Speaker 2: draws everybody all the time. And his art is flawed.
- 41:32Speaker 2: So I'm like, Xavier... draw Tsar face. We will pay you.
- 41:38Speaker 2: We'll put you.
- 41:38Speaker 1: You're going to be a paid guy on the payroll.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Yeah, you do a comic book cover, you do a
- 41:42Speaker 2: vinyl cover, we'll do it. And he's like... You know,
- 41:45Speaker 2: and I've seen some of his... He's attempted a few times,
- 41:48Speaker 2: but he... I see them because I snoop around. But he.
- 41:53Speaker 1: He's like, I see you working. I see the rough drafts.
- 41:57Speaker 2: Yes, exactly. But I'm not going to say, hey, I
- 41:59Speaker 2: was in your room looking at everything you were drawing.
- 42:01Speaker 2: Now he knows. Yeah, I know. He's a big fan
- 42:03Speaker 2: of the show. And I say, I see what you're
- 42:07Speaker 2: doing with Zarface here, but I can't reveal that because
- 42:09Speaker 2: I want him to give it to me when he's happy.
- 42:11Speaker 2: And I would love to put Lamar Supreme out of
- 42:12Speaker 2: business and have Xavier do it a lot cheaper. Just kidding, Lamar.
- 42:20Speaker 1: It's got to be crazy that We're 13 years into
- 42:23Speaker 1: the Czar Face thing, and you guys probably, like, meet
- 42:25Speaker 1: people who, like, have been listening to you guys since
- 42:28Speaker 1: they were, you know, teenagers, and now they're grown-ass men.
- 42:31Speaker 1: But just, like, but not, like, listening to, like, Esoteric
- 42:34Speaker 1: and 7L, but, like, they didn't even know that existed.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, for the better.
- 42:40Speaker 1: But that's a, like, that's a crazy run with the
- 42:42Speaker 1: amount of, because how many projects altogether are you guys
- 42:44Speaker 1: in now?
- 42:46Speaker 2: That is something... 15, maybe? Oh, is it?
- 42:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Well... We've got some instrumental albums, too.
- 42:51Speaker 1: That's a lot, right? That's like a hell of a... Like,
- 42:53Speaker 1: most people's careers don't last three years.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Right.
- 42:55Speaker 1: But to have this other run that is.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:59Speaker 1: It's its own thing, but it's got to be kind
- 43:01Speaker 1: of crazy for you guys to come from where you
- 43:03Speaker 1: guys come from.
- 43:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:04Speaker 1: To get the acknowledgement and get the accolades from this
- 43:07Speaker 1: side project that turns into the main thing.
- 43:09Speaker 2: Right. Absolutely. Absolutely. And... You know, with 7L Esoteric, you know,
- 43:14Speaker 2: we were able to go to Europe and tour Greece
- 43:16Speaker 2: and go all these places. But let me be clear.
- 43:17Speaker 1: You guys were a thing.
- 43:21Speaker 2: But I'm saying, like, I think we got, like, a
- 43:22Speaker 2: second act here. And it's been a much bigger act.
- 43:25Speaker 2: So we're so, you know, so grateful for it. And,
- 43:29Speaker 2: you know, here we are.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Is the Jalen Brown trade the worst trade since Kawhi
- 43:35Speaker 1: Leonard to the Clippers? Well, I guess Kawhi didn't get
- 43:37Speaker 1: traded to the Clippers, to be fair.
- 43:39Speaker 2: Right. Right. It's up there. It's disgusting. And I mean,
- 43:43Speaker 2: I'm still going to, you know, pull for the Celtics.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Somehow Paul George involved in both of the worst NBA
- 43:48Speaker 1: transactions in recent history.
- 43:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Nothing against Paul George, you know
- 43:53Speaker 2: what I mean? But it's just like a real mind eraser. Like,
- 43:58Speaker 2: why would you do that? You know, but this, you know.
- 44:00Speaker 1: You guys got so many championships. So it's like, like,
- 44:03Speaker 1: I'm a Suns fan. So all we know is like
- 44:05Speaker 1: being bad.
- 44:06Speaker 2: Just, like, good, but, like, never that good. Yeah, yeah, right, right.
- 44:10Speaker 1: So, it's like, when I saw it, I was just like,
- 44:12Speaker 1: because I like Jalen Brown as a person. I think
- 44:14Speaker 1: he's a great guy.
- 44:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:15Speaker 1: But I just didn't get it, man. I was just like,
- 44:19Speaker 1: how do you not get more? The Sun should have
- 44:21Speaker 1: gave him more.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Like, for fuck's sake.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Yeah, so, I mean, if you listen to, like, sports
- 44:26Speaker 2: radio in Boston.
- 44:26Speaker 1: Well, I think it's all about that second apron shit, too, and, like,
- 44:29Speaker 1: having two people who make $ 60 million over.
- 44:30Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 44:31Speaker 1: It's like, you know, Paul George gave you a little
- 44:32Speaker 1: more flexibility.
- 44:33Speaker 2: You can move them.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:35Speaker 2: All that stuff, yeah. When it gets into the finances
- 44:37Speaker 2: and the contracts and stuff like that, I kind of like,
- 44:40Speaker 2: it's not my, above my pay grade. So I don't
- 44:42Speaker 2: understand that. And I don't want to speculate, but Boston
- 44:45Speaker 2: Radio is always saying, oh, there's, you know, stuff behind
- 44:47Speaker 2: the scenes.
- 44:48Speaker 1: I can imagine. But just coming off a year that
- 44:50Speaker 1: I feel like, I thought it was like a rebuilding, like, okay,
- 44:53Speaker 1: you guys are going to take a year off?
- 44:54Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah, I know.
- 44:55Speaker 1: And then.
- 44:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:57Speaker 1: Jalen Brown plays his fucking ass off.
- 44:59Speaker 2: Yes.
- 45:00Speaker 1: You get some good Anthony Simons minutes.
- 45:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Richard.
- 45:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:04Speaker 1: No.
- 45:04Speaker 2: And then Jalen Brown said it was his favorite year.
- 45:06Speaker 2: And everyone's like, oh, my God, we got a trade.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Because because Tatum was on the bench for most of
- 45:12Speaker 2: the season and then all the season, really. And yeah,
- 45:15Speaker 2: it's not not good. But I mean, I'm always going
- 45:18Speaker 2: to pull for the Celtics. You should know. Yeah. Are you.
- 45:21Speaker 1: I mean, are you embracing Paul George?
- 45:23Speaker 2: You're going to get a jersey? I have to. Oh, no.
- 45:24Speaker 2: I'm not going to get a jersey, I don't think.
- 45:26Speaker 2: You should get a jersey since the 7L' s name is George.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Get a little George on the back.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Get the George jersey. You'll be one of 12 people
- 45:33Speaker 1: with it.
- 45:35Speaker 2: Jeez. Oh, man. Yeah.
- 45:38Speaker 1: Nobody in Boston who's a real Celtics fan is buying...
- 45:41Speaker 1: The Paul George jersey is.
- 45:42Speaker 2: Going fucking triple wood.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:45Speaker 1: Because everyone's going to be like, fuck this guy. I
- 45:47Speaker 1: want Taylor Brown.
- 45:49Speaker 2: I've got... Three jerseys, Celtics jerseys, in my closet. One's
- 45:53Speaker 2: Reggie Lewis, rest in peace.
- 45:54Speaker 1: Rest in peace.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Yeah. One is Bird.
- 45:58Speaker 1: I would hope so.
- 45:59Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. And one, well, actually, I got a Pierce jersey, too.
- 46:02Speaker 2: What am I talking about? But the last one is
- 46:04Speaker 2: Inspector Deck. Because when Wu-Tang did their final chamber tour,
- 46:08Speaker 2: they all got jerseys. Yeah, so they all came out
- 46:10Speaker 2: in Celtics jerseys. yeah did he give you his yeah
- 46:13Speaker 2: like on some mean joe green shit and he just
- 46:15Speaker 2: like like after the show like i was able to
- 46:17Speaker 2: bring my son and his buddy back to meet everyone
- 46:19Speaker 2: such a great show and yeah it was.
- 46:20Speaker 1: A great show oh my god the way they like
- 46:22Speaker 1: split it up.
- 46:23Speaker 2: Yeah oh it was great it was great but at
- 46:25Speaker 2: the end you know he was like i know you're
- 46:28Speaker 2: a celtics fan take this and i was like oh
- 46:29Speaker 2: dope man and uh and i have it now it
- 46:32Speaker 2: says inspect the deck on the back i mean it's
- 46:34Speaker 2: a lot of letters it is it's like stacked so
- 46:37Speaker 2: it looks kind of you know unique in that sense
- 46:39Speaker 2: and it's dope so I don't know. When we open
- 46:41Speaker 2: up the Zarface Cafe, we're going to put that behind glass.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Is there going to be a Zarface Cafe? We're working
- 46:46Speaker 2: on the Zargaritas now. The what? Zargaritas, like a bar first.
- 46:51Speaker 2: Is that real? No. What do you mean it's not real?
- 46:55Speaker 2: You've got to manifest it, man.
- 46:56Speaker 1: Zargaritas would go crazy. I don't know where that goes crazy.
- 47:03Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 47:03Speaker 3: You gave that an honest thought.
- 47:06Speaker 2: Or Zarbonated Drinks. Let me stop.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Zarbonated Drinks.
- 47:11Speaker 2: We are working on our second collaboration with Saucony for
- 47:15Speaker 2: another Zarcony sneaker. We dropped one in 2000, what? 21?
- 47:19Speaker 2: They got dope shit.
- 47:22Speaker 1: Like the Westside Gun shit. Yeah, real dope.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. They're a great company.
- 47:27Speaker 1: Who inspires you guys now? from, like, I guess maybe, like,
- 47:31Speaker 1: a newer generation. I wouldn't say, like, a lot of
- 47:34Speaker 1: the new, new shit's horrible. You mentioned Denzel earlier. Denzel's incredible.
- 47:38Speaker 1: Any artists that you guys are inspired by that you
- 47:40Speaker 1: fuck with, especially you?
- 47:41Speaker 3: I mean, for me, it's more of, like, producer-based. So, like,
- 47:44Speaker 3: you know, whatever Alchemist or Madlib, Muggs is doing, I'm
- 47:47Speaker 3: kind of, you know, I'm more plugged into the producer
- 47:49Speaker 3: side of it. You know, Kenny Beats doing the Denzel Curry,
- 47:52Speaker 3: you know, stuff like that. So, at least that's, you know,
- 47:55Speaker 3: what I'm checking for.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I like... A newer MC, his first record
- 48:00Speaker 2: came out this recently, Frankie Pulitzer. That's the guy I'm
- 48:04Speaker 2: talking about the most. You know, he's dope. He's dope.
- 48:06Speaker 2: I agree. And I had to give him a leg
- 48:07Speaker 2: up a little, you know.
- 48:09Speaker 1: What's his process? Because we know you say, like, Deck
- 48:13Speaker 1: probably just goes in and just.
- 48:15Speaker 2: He does.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Just runs.
- 48:17Speaker 2: He doesn't run, all right? He doesn't run circles. He
- 48:20Speaker 2: doesn't do that, no.
- 48:21Speaker 1: To be fair, what is, like, you know, for somebody who's...
- 48:25Speaker 1: This is their first... the last six years. So I'm
- 48:28Speaker 1: assuming it's like the first three albums you guys have finished.
- 48:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:31Speaker 1: Um, but like, what is his creative process? And like,
- 48:35Speaker 1: are you guys helping him out? Like through like kind
- 48:38Speaker 1: of just the studio shit. Cause I feel like being
- 48:40Speaker 1: in the studio.
- 48:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:42Speaker 1: Being able to rap like around the homies and like
- 48:44Speaker 1: getting in and like laying down. There's a lot to that.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, definitely.
- 48:48Speaker 1: Definitely.
- 48:48Speaker 2: We we have a lot of back and forth when
- 48:51Speaker 2: we're talking about, you know, certain takes. You know what
- 48:54Speaker 2: I mean? You know, if you're in the lab and
- 48:55Speaker 2: you record something, you've got a bunch of people around.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Once you finish that last line, you're waiting to hear
- 49:01Speaker 2: in the next room. You wait here. Oh, something like that.
- 49:03Speaker 2: If you don't hear it, something's wrong. Like, damn, was
- 49:05Speaker 2: this whack? I got to do it again, you know?
- 49:07Speaker 2: And we've had a lot of conversations about that, about
- 49:10Speaker 2: my stuff, about Dex stuff, about Frankie stuff. So it's
- 49:14Speaker 2: just like, yeah, I think there's been a lot of
- 49:16Speaker 2: uh honest communication i think we go further that way
- 49:20Speaker 2: you know what i mean and frankie's very very very
- 49:23Speaker 2: open to criticism and very uh willing to improve work
- 49:29Speaker 2: and make it right you know and it's as i
- 49:31Speaker 2: said he's very inspiring in that sense because a lot
- 49:33Speaker 2: of people come in in the booth with like an
- 49:35Speaker 2: ego and think they're you know.
- 49:37Speaker 1: He went crazy honestly i was smart When I heard
- 49:39Speaker 1: the mad technology, I was like, yeah. That's Frankie Pulitzer.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. Well, you were like this new MC
- 49:49Speaker 2: I haven't heard of. Not the guy from Peaky Blinders
- 49:52Speaker 2: at all. Oh, yeah, that TV show.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Yeah, not the guy from there. By the way, that
- 50:00Speaker 1: guy did do a good.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Job on the show.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Great show.
- 50:02Speaker 2: Absolutely. That guy's a phenomenal actor. We're talking about Cillian Murphy.
- 50:07Speaker 2: Of course, of course, of course, of course. Because he
- 50:09Speaker 2: was the Riddler, and he did wear a mask and that.
- 50:11Speaker 1: He did, he did.
- 50:13Speaker 2: A lot of connections.
- 50:14Speaker 1: Check us out. You guys have this stuff that is
- 50:20Speaker 1: super limited, merch, vinyl, et cetera. It flips online, the art.
- 50:26Speaker 1: It's kind of like its own thing. There's people who
- 50:28Speaker 1: will literally just buy your shit just to resell it.
- 50:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, yeah, which is... It feels gross,
- 50:35Speaker 2: but it also feels good because there's people that demand it.
- 50:38Speaker 2: And we have people bootlegging our stuff all the time. Like,
- 50:42Speaker 2: I don't want to give them any shine.
- 50:43Speaker 1: There are people bootlegging stuff?
- 50:44Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, man. Like, what gets bootlegged, though? Merch.
- 50:47Speaker 1: The merch.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Yeah. So, you know, we prefer you go to czarface.com
- 50:51Speaker 2: and buy our stuff. But you can see the same
- 50:53Speaker 2: stuff on, like, you know, these bootleg sites. And it's
- 50:56Speaker 2: just like, damn, man. It's the way things move so fast.
- 50:58Speaker 2: It's like... What is the.
- 51:00Speaker 1: uh, most amount of money you've seen a piece of
- 51:03Speaker 1: vinyl or a piece of art go for on the
- 51:04Speaker 1: resale market where you were just like, what the fuck.
- 51:07Speaker 2: Is going on here? I, I don't know. I know
- 51:09Speaker 2: he did cause he flips it himself. So he's probably
- 51:11Speaker 2: has a lot.
- 51:12Speaker 1: He's like, Hey, I need 10 of them. Hey, part
- 51:15Speaker 1: of his, part of his pay for the beats is like, yeah,
- 51:17Speaker 1: we need to allocate.
- 51:18Speaker 2: Oh man. You should see how I got his Range Rover.
- 51:20Speaker 2: It's um, nah, uh, definitely, uh, you know, High four figures.
- 51:27Speaker 2: You know what I mean? I want to see here.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Let's see. I'm just on eBay right now, and I
- 51:30Speaker 1: just typed in Zarface.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Oh, boy.
- 51:32Speaker 1: Right now, there's a concrete jungle Zarface statue for $ 4, 000. Okay.
- 51:37Speaker 1: There's a Zarface autograph card for $ 1, 800? That's low. The
- 51:44Speaker 1: gas one?
- 51:46Speaker 3: Oh, gas trading?
- 51:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:47Speaker 1: Yeah. There's a figure, 25 out of 50.
- 51:50Speaker 2: Yeah. $ 1, 500. $ 1, 500. $ 1, 500. Yeah, you know, and these are
- 51:55Speaker 2: the same statues and toys that are down in my
- 51:58Speaker 2: basement that my daughter's probably throwing a basketball at right now.
- 52:00Speaker 2: As a matter of fact, I got all of them.
- 52:03Speaker 1: They're just opened up. They're not in the greatest condition
- 52:06Speaker 1: right now. But that's got to be cool. Coming from
- 52:10Speaker 1: like where y'all come from.
- 52:14Speaker 2: It's really cool, man. It's really cool. And when we
- 52:16Speaker 2: were really starting with the action figures, there were some
- 52:18Speaker 2: smaller artists that were, they thought we might have been
- 52:22Speaker 2: bigger than we were, and they were just out making
- 52:24Speaker 2: their own Tsarface figures and selling them online for like
- 52:27Speaker 2: 200 bucks. And I'm like, yo, man, we're trying to
- 52:29Speaker 2: sell our own figures and make some money ourselves. We're
- 52:30Speaker 2: not that big. It's not like bootlegging Batman.
- 52:33Speaker 1: Will you guys shoot the cease and desist over?
- 52:36Speaker 2: Nah. I shot like the angry DM. How's that?
- 52:39Speaker 1: Yeah, what the fuck are you doing? Stealing our shit?
- 52:41Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. We got our own shit we're trying to do. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 52:44Speaker 2: So I had a few of those exchanges. But since then,
- 52:47Speaker 2: I've cooled off. I'm just happy that people are like,
- 52:50Speaker 2: inspired enough by the character itself to try to make
- 52:53Speaker 2: something themselves, and it's like, you know, for the most case,
- 52:57Speaker 2: have at it, but in other cases, we got our lawyer, Neil,
- 53:01Speaker 2: and he's a shark.
- 53:03Speaker 1: Yeah, shout out to Neil. When you guys do the
- 53:06Speaker 1: vinyl cover for the Venom song, and you're able to
- 53:09Speaker 1: put Venom and Czarface on the same, that's like bringing
- 53:13Speaker 1: Marvel and... your vision and your creation onto the same
- 53:18Speaker 1: piece of art.
- 53:19Speaker 2: Yes, thank you.
- 53:19Speaker 1: That's got to be like a... That's all I want.
- 53:21Speaker 2: That's all I want to hear.
- 53:22Speaker 1: That's got to be like the coolest shit ever, though.
- 53:23Speaker 2: Yeah, that's... Trust me.
- 53:24Speaker 1: It's low-key the Marvel co-star.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Yeah, well, yeah. I actually wrote a Nightcrawler story in
- 53:30Speaker 2: an X-Men issue, too, with Marvel. Fire. Yeah, yeah. And
- 53:36Speaker 2: they put us in a Black Panther comic, the three
- 53:38Speaker 2: of us, not those characters on our face, but me, Deck,
- 53:42Speaker 2: and 7-L. So we've been in the mix, and... Yes,
- 53:46Speaker 2: for me personally, there's no higher honor, you know what
- 53:50Speaker 2: I mean, than having a Marvel character officially appear.
- 53:55Speaker 1: Because there's also the Carnage Venom and then the black
- 53:58Speaker 1: and white one with Darth Vader.
- 54:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I mean, that's really, as I
- 54:03Speaker 2: was saying, it's like bringing the two worlds together and
- 54:06Speaker 2: actually making it official. It's just been such a.
- 54:08Speaker 1: It's kind of like the nerd version of, like an
- 54:12Speaker 1: underground group from Boston starting a rap group with a
- 54:15Speaker 1: member of Wu-Tang Clan.
- 54:17Speaker 2: Right. You know, so as I said, our feet can't
- 54:20Speaker 2: come off the gas, but when they do, I'm going
- 54:22Speaker 2: to sit back, I'm going to say, did we really
- 54:24Speaker 2: just do all this? Because it's been, you know, we've
- 54:27Speaker 2: been on a very fortunate run, man.
- 54:30Speaker 1: Ideally, one day, if there's a Czar Face live action movie,
- 54:36Speaker 1: which would have to come on the other end of
- 54:38Speaker 1: some sort of animated situation.
- 54:40Speaker 2: Yep, yeah.
- 54:42Speaker 1: Who could you picture playing Zarface?
- 54:48Speaker 2: Tom Hardy? I like it. It's just a random guy.
- 54:54Speaker 3: I like it.
- 54:56Speaker 1: I like it.
- 54:56Speaker 2: It's good. He was great in Warrior, too. He's an
- 54:59Speaker 2: amazing actor. I'd like to see him play Wolverine, actually.
- 55:03Speaker 2: I agreed to. Yeah.
- 55:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:05Speaker 2: But I was thinking. If only we knew him. Yeah.
- 55:07Speaker 2: There's some way we could get. No, listen. Frank is
- 55:11Speaker 2: a separate thing.
- 55:11Speaker 1: I talked to him.
- 55:12Speaker 2: Listen, there are times when I'm FaceTiming with Tom and
- 55:17Speaker 2: my wife is around and then I just give the
- 55:18Speaker 2: phone to her.
- 55:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:19Speaker 2: And they're exchanging like sourdough bread recipes.
- 55:22Speaker 1: My son is 12 and he's on a sourdough kick
- 55:25Speaker 1: where he makes sourdough bread. He's got starters. I got
- 55:27Speaker 1: 12 starters up against the fucking window.
- 55:29Speaker 2: Oh, really? Okay.
- 55:30Speaker 1: Kitchen smells crazy.
- 55:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:32Speaker 1: As soon as they bust them fucking jars open, them
- 55:34Speaker 1: shit smell wild. Yeah.
- 55:36Speaker 2: So they were just talking about it, you know, and
- 55:38Speaker 2: I'm like, this conversation is going on a little too long.
- 55:40Speaker 2: You know what I mean? You're FaceTiming with Tom.
- 55:42Speaker 1: Leave my girl alone.
- 55:43Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Give me the phone back.
- 55:45Speaker 1: Do you know if Tom's heard the album with Frankie Pulitzer?
- 55:49Speaker 2: Has he heard it?
- 55:50Speaker 1: Being a fan, obviously.
- 55:51Speaker 2: He might not have heard it. Yeah, I don't know.
- 55:52Speaker 1: You should send him a copy.
- 55:53Speaker 2: Yeah, actually, yeah. I don't know how to phrase it.
- 56:00Speaker 2: I bet he has. Yeah, he's probably heard it, yeah.
- 56:03Speaker 1: Well, listen, the new album is out. It is. Zarface
- 56:06Speaker 1: meets Frankie Pulitzer, a new artist. Six, he's only been
- 56:11Speaker 1: rapping for about six years. He's a brand new guy.
- 56:13Speaker 1: You don't know what he looks like? I would like
- 56:15Speaker 1: to know what he looks like.
- 56:16Speaker 2: I do know what he looks like, but we'll remain that.
- 56:18Speaker 1: Is there a reason he's got the mask on? Is
- 56:20Speaker 1: it like a seal situation under there?
- 56:22Speaker 2: Yeah, well. There's a reason he has the mask on.
- 56:27Speaker 2: I'll tell you that. Like Kane? Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 56:30Speaker 2: WWE Kane? Yeah, I could talk wrestling all day. Yeah, absolutely, yeah.
- 56:36Speaker 1: So Frankie Pulitzer, by the way, what an honor for
- 56:39Speaker 1: a brand new rapper to just have a fucking joint
- 56:41Speaker 1: album with you guys. So shout out to me doing
- 56:43Speaker 1: something right.
- 56:43Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. It's yeah. I like help on my friends, man.
- 56:47Speaker 1: Uh, you guys, uh, how many like additions of vinyl
- 56:51Speaker 1: do you guys have planned for each release? Like when
- 56:53Speaker 1: you guys are like, okay, we're going to put this
- 56:54Speaker 1: album out. This is going to be the general release vinyl.
- 56:56Speaker 1: Is there like the, you know? Yeah.
- 56:58Speaker 2: We discussed that a lot, man. We, we think about,
- 57:01Speaker 2: you know, what the fans want, what the collectors want,
- 57:03Speaker 2: how to piece both markets. You know what I mean? And, and, um,
- 57:07Speaker 2: as long as Lamar comes correct, you know what I mean? We,
- 57:09Speaker 2: we come, we'll make a couple of different variants for
- 57:12Speaker 2: certain things. We'll put extra tracks on certain joints. Cause
- 57:15Speaker 2: you know, back in the day when, you know, we
- 57:17Speaker 2: were collecting records or, you know, I know you still
- 57:19Speaker 2: collect records, George, um, but like De La Soul put
- 57:23Speaker 2: out this, uh, clear leg, you know, and it was,
- 57:26Speaker 2: and so, so and so put out these records, which
- 57:28Speaker 2: is B sides. And it's like, wow, I need that.
- 57:31Speaker 2: And I need that. And I need that. And, um,
- 57:34Speaker 2: we kind of like to feed that same fire, you know?
- 57:36Speaker 1: That's dope.
- 57:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's an official, what would you say, aficionado
- 57:41Speaker 2: of all that stuff because he's got a record store
- 57:43Speaker 2: in Beverly called Soundtracks, Beverly Mass, and he's got every
- 57:46Speaker 2: record known.
- 57:47Speaker 1: Beverly, Massachusetts is the place?
- 57:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 57:49Speaker 1: I've only been to Boston and Lawrence.
- 57:51Speaker 2: Oh, no kidding. Lawrence was nice.
- 57:53Speaker 1: There's some great Puerto Rican chicks there.
- 57:55Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely. Shout out to Lawrence, shout out
- 57:57Speaker 2: to Terminology, my man, Ed Rock.
- 57:59Speaker 1: Shout out to Term? Yeah, yeah. Have you guys ever
- 58:02Speaker 1: had a, A hot wiener in Providence?
- 58:06Speaker 2: Well, I... Is this a joke?
- 58:10Speaker 1: No, there's a restaurant there. It's called New York Systems.
- 58:13Speaker 1: They sell the hot wiener.
- 58:14Speaker 2: Okay, no.
- 58:15Speaker 1: I just didn't know, because I didn't know if you
- 58:16Speaker 1: guys make it down to Providence. Is it down?
- 58:19Speaker 2: Up, maybe? No, it's down. It's down. Oh, yeah, absolutely, yeah.
- 58:23Speaker 2: I know Providence pretty well, but I've never had a
- 58:25Speaker 2: hot wiener. I'm married. I... It's a fucking.
- 58:30Speaker 1: It's a glizzy. It's a nice.
- 58:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 58:32Speaker 1: It's called a hot wiener.
- 58:33Speaker 2: Oh, I believe... Hey, I believe it. I believe it.
- 58:35Speaker 2: I might try it. I'm gluten-free, though, so I have to.
- 58:38Speaker 1: Patriots fan? Yeah.
- 58:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 58:41Speaker 1: I mean, you guys fucking... A.J. Brown's about to fuck
- 58:43Speaker 1: this year. Yeah, man.
- 58:44Speaker 2: I know. I know. I know.
- 58:47Speaker 1: I took him on my fantasy team. I feel good
- 58:49Speaker 1: about it.
- 58:49Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Absolutely, man. It's going to be a fun season.
- 58:52Speaker 2: I went to one of the preseason games last week.
- 58:54Speaker 1: In your fandom, is it like Red Sox first? No.
- 58:56Speaker 2: Sounds like who's... No, I would say it's Celtics, and Patriots,
- 59:03Speaker 2: Red Sox.
- 59:04Speaker 1: Are you a sports guy? You don't strike me as
- 59:06Speaker 1: a sports guy. You're a record guy.
- 59:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Wow.
- 59:11Speaker 1: I always like to ask producers, what is your... Because
- 59:14Speaker 1: I loved Scratch Magazine when you were able to see
- 59:16Speaker 1: what everybody was using. When you're making your beats, what's
- 59:18Speaker 1: the setup?
- 59:19Speaker 2: What are you using?
- 59:21Speaker 3: It's pretty simple. I use a little SP-404 and just.
- 59:25Speaker 3: Acid program. That's really it.
- 59:27Speaker 1: Acid?
- 59:27Speaker 2: Sony acid? Yes.
- 59:28Speaker 3: Well, now it's Magix, but.
- 59:30Speaker 1: Wow. I used to, back in the day, use Sony
- 59:33Speaker 1: Vegas to edit all my videos.
- 59:34Speaker 2: I mean, everybody.
- 59:35Speaker 3: I see a lot of comments because I've done a couple... like,
- 59:38Speaker 3: behind-the-beat videos, and they can see Acid in the background.
- 59:40Speaker 3: A lot of people, oh, I used that when I
- 59:42Speaker 3: was making mashups in 06 and stuff like that.
- 59:44Speaker 1: Dude, Acid was the shit, though. I think it was, like,
- 59:46Speaker 1: kind of free.
- 59:47Speaker 2: Back in the day.
- 59:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it was just the first, like, computer
- 59:50Speaker 3: program I learned for beats, and I just never... I mean,
- 59:53Speaker 3: I got Ableton and other stuff for a reason, but
- 59:55Speaker 3: I just... I only use it for really just kind
- 59:57Speaker 3: of tracking stuff. I'm not really.
- 59:59Speaker 1: Are you also engineering these albums, or do you guys
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: have an engineer?
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: Jeremy Page.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: So, like, we'll make all the music.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: I hope you guys aren't recording these albums into fucking
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Sony acid.
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: Well, we actually.
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: We are, yeah.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: We are.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: So.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: Yeah, so.
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: We are, actually.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: And you didn't know.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: Yeah, we actually are. But that's why we.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: But that's fine. I mean, obviously it's working out.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: But, you know, Jeremy will be the one to be.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: You know, it's like, hey.
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: We know we're kind of using, you know, archaic stuff here.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: Just make sure it sounds nice.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: Are you, like, how do you do a lot of digging? Obviously,
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: you have a record store.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: Are you digging, like, for samples still actively?
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: Or do you still have, like, a bandwidth of shit
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: where you're like, I got to get to all these
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: that I got to fill?
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: I do, you know, but also with, I think with,
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: you know, the Czarface stuff, I've been working with a
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: ton of amazing musicians to kind of, bypass yeah yeah
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: yeah and just in general just you know a lot
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: of times you know i'll do stuff like voice note
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: ideas to people humming melodies and stuff like that so
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: it's like jeremy uh agent x who's been sending me
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: tons of samples really really talented guy he has like
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: a bunch of um samples on the new uh terawack
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: record he's like he's dope and uh other people 13th
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: ward you know todd spadafore i know i'm forgetting some
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: people are you against.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: And like if you have an idea for a sample,
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: but you can't find it or you can't, are you
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: against throwing it into Suno?
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh yeah.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: Cause again, all these people I just mentioned, that's what
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: it is. I'm kind of like, Hey, this is what,
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: you know, it's a piano. This is how it should
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: go in my head. This is how, yeah, yeah, yeah. So,
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: you know, and a lot of that does come from
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: records I'm hearing and like digging and stuff like that.
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: So it will be like, you know, cause like Jeremy,
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: he just, you know, he's able to kind of take
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: some of the, nonsense. I'm sending him on voice. I mean,
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: I've listened to some back. They sound crazy. A lot
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: of them are super late in the morning. I'm like
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: whispering into the phone. I sound like a crazy person.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: You're whispering next to your lady in bed.
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: Well, she's sleeping. So yeah, yeah, yeah. So I'm just
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: trying to be.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: Like, I just had morning sex. By the way, we
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: both had morning breath and I had an idea.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: I can't believe these are the beats that I'm rapping over. No, no.
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: It's just more like, you know, I'm just trying to
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: be like, it's like usually when I'm done working on
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: ideas in the studio, I'll be like, okay, these are
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: the things I want to shoot over and I'll just
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: be like, sending them as i'm walking around the house
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: and yeah i'm just trying to be quiet it's.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: Got to be because i feel like back in the
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: day it was a little bit more like the wild
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: wild west yes sample stuff and like kind of you
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: know yeah make it your own and like yeah get
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: away with it but i feel like i always talk
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: like with static and i don't know if he's kind
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: of pivoted but he used to always be like i
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: don't give a fuck like i'm putting this shit out
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: and if they hit me with the cease and desist
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: something's going right yeah.
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: No i know yeah That's, I mean, that's a, that's
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: a good thing at times. You know what I mean?
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: But we've, we've also like when we had that combo
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: was probably 10 years ago. So I don't know how
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: much it's changed because I know a lot of people
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: who you would think are like sample heavy producers, like, bro,
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: there's no samples.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: We're figuring it out.
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: It's yeah, for sure. It's that, you know what I mean? It's, it's,
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: you know, cause it has changed a lot, even the
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: last like five years. It's, it's crazy. So, you know, again,
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: the list of people that I've been working with, um,
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: it's just, it's, yeah, it's been like, again, I see,
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: you know, I've said it before in other interviews, it's
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: a blessing. Cause you know, you know, they are able
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: to just bring, you know, more to it, you know,
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: than sample. You're kind of limited sometimes too, which is,
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: that has its positives as well. You know what I mean?
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: We've got a lot of great music out of limitation.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: So, um, and a lot of stuff has been like,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: I mean, at what point in time have you found everything?
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: I mean, there's endless stuff, especially stuff from like, you know,
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: I was buying a lot of records with this guy
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: in Poland and it was just like, it wasn't that expensive,
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: but I was just like, I have like five crates
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: of stuff.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: I can't even Polish joints.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: I can't even understand. And it's like not even aware
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: of nothing.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: But, and it's, you know, so.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: Sometimes chasing you down.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: Sometimes that stuff, I'm like, Oh, well this might be okay.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: But I, you know, I get some sort of Polish
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: symphony from 1968. Who the fuck's going to fucking come
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: after me for this?
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: I'm going to be replaying this clip. Yeah. Yeah. The
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: star face no more.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: Has anyone tried to approach you guys about buying the
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: intellectual property or the character?
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Is that something that happens often?
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: I don't know if it happens often, but it has happened. Yeah,
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: it's happened. You know what I mean? And there might
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: have been other people that have considered it and haven't
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: approached us. You know what I mean? He's for sale. No. Yeah,
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: it just doesn't make sense for us. You know what
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: I mean? We have an idea of where we want
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: to go with it, and it's important to kind of
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: keep it.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: Disney comes, and they're like, yo, we want to put
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: Zarfix in the Avengers.
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, we know the answer to that. I mean,
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: that would be definitely something exciting to consider. You know
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: what I'm saying? I just hope Disney gets it right
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: and puts– Well, Marvel gets it right.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Right, right, right.
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: And puts MF Dooms music in Doomsday. You know what
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: I mean?
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: I agree.
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: Yeah, that has to happen.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: Yeah. I would hope. Yeah, yeah. It's, you know.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: Shout out to our brothers at Hardeen, man. Utz family,
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: of course. They've been sponsoring the podcast for years now.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: You've been seeing the mic flag for years now. Want
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: to give a shout out to our brothers. I just
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: was in Vegas. I had to pull up. All right, look,
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: it's the number one dispensary in the world. When I
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: tell you, you walk in that thing and, The bud
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: tenders are great. They take care of you immediately. The
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: selection is great. So when you go to Vegas, you
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: get into that cab, you get into that Uber, immediately say,
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: take me to Hardeen. They'll know what they're doing, all right?
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: They're going to get you right, all right? The number
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: one premium cannabis dispensary in the world. They just got
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: me right. I was just in town for Rafi's birthday,
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: had to pull up, get right, get this nice little
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: 101 Hardeen jersey. These are not available. All right, shout
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: out to them, man. All right, salute to the family.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: Follow them on Instagram, Hardeen underscore Las Vegas. All right,
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: let's get back to the podcast. All right, so I'm
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: a big wrestling fan, and you guys, first of all,
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: are a big part of it. I want to say
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: John Cena's debut album went platinum. It did go platinum.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: It did. I think it's the only, well, I think
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: he might be the only wrestler to really drop like
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: a real, real rap album.
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: What?
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: R-Truth. Shout out to the Truth Man. Because you produced
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: his original theme song, Basic Thuganomics.
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: How does this happen? Obviously, he's from Massachusetts. So how
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: do you guys get into John Cena?
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: One of my really good friends, Mark, MC Trademark, who
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: does the record with John. You know, we grew up together.
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: We're super tight. And him and John, very close. We're
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: like brothers. So John, when he was getting a little older,
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: he'd hang out with us a lot. And he was
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: super into underground hip hop. I remember when.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: You were hanging out with John Cena when he was
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: growing up?
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: Yeah, not too often. But yeah, occasionally it'd be like,
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: you know, we'd go to some house party. My cousin's
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: going to come. He was big back then. You know
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: what I mean?
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Before he's wrestling.
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Oh yeah. Yeah.
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: Before he went to, uh, he, I went to Florida, right?
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: Probably FCW.
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: He went to, uh, California at first, if I remember.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: Oh yeah. He had like a gym gig out here.
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: Yeah. He talked about his gym gig here.
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: And I want to say like the weekend before he left,
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: it was, uh, labor day and he came by the
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: house cause he, I had done a mixtape of all
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: underground hip hop. It was like, Even though it was
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: on at the time, like Future Sound, like a lot
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: of just really underground hip hop, Future Sound, Bop Step,
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: and man, I don't know, Lords of the Underground, Psycho.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: It was like when things were early. Anyways, and he
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: just wanted a copy. He had like a little low
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: rider truck, I remember.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: The gray one with the tints. Yeah, with the tints.
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: And he just had the car running outside. He had
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: a bucket hat on.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: Wait, you just said car.
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: I came out. I don't know.
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: We talked about that earlier that we've.
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: Done the interview so far and I haven't, I haven't
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: heard a five car stop and we got it.
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: I remember he just came by and, uh, to grab
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: a copy and, you know, and I didn't really, uh,
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: you know, I, you know, grew up watching wrestling, but I,
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: you know, as a Turk, I think over time, you know,
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: was keeping up with it. So I kind of had
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: no No clue where he was at by the time,
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: you know. I mean, I knew he was doing his thing.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: Right. For sure.
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: So this is like, oh, 2002, something like that.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: That makes sense.
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: And Mark was like, oh, like, you know, and I
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: knew he was rapping, like coming out and doing like.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: Little disses to.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: On TV.
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: On TV, yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: And he's like, he wants to record a song, but
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: like he wants to do like a legit underground rap song.
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: You got any beats? I was like, I don't come by.
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: So they just came by. It was like, I remember
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: it was a Wednesday because I was off from work.
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: Shout out to the Brothers Deli in Danvers. Um, and, uh, yeah,
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: and I was just playing him. Uh, I had like, I, I,
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: you know, I had the MPC. I was like tapped
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: out some drums. So I had a drum pattern going.
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: I was just playing records over the drums, like some ideas,
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: some samples. Cause you know, I was like, let's make
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: something new. And I was like, you like this, you
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: like this. And he was like, you know, maybe four
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: or five things in. He just heard that vibe. He's like, Oh,
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: I like that one. I like that idea. So cut
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: it up that way. You know, pitch to, you know,
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: we made the, made a rough skeleton of the beat.
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: He's like, let's record it. And I didn't have at
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: the time to be able to record vocals in my house.
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: So I called up our friend Chaos, who we were
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: recording at. I was like, are you around right now?
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: And he's like, let's do it.
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: I was like, shit, OK.
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: And I remember hitting Shay up to come down and
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: meet us. We met at the studio. And this is
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: early cdj days i think it was like the first
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: version and so just said some lines and i was
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: like cutting on the cdj i'd never used a cdj
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: before he's like oh yeah oh two oh three and
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: we just did it like that i didn't think anything
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: of it it was it was we just did it
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: in a day mixed it we were all happy with
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: it and i was like cool he's like i might
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: i might use it on maybe i'll come out to
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: it i was like don't I really, I was very
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: ignorant to what would happen with it. You know what
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: I mean? And that, yeah, that's kind of how, that
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: was the day. It was just one day.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: So like the cuts and all that, those are your vocals?
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm untouchable, but I'm forcing you to feel me there. That's, yeah,
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: that's me. That's what pumps the crowd up, man. Nothing
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: to do with John.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: Best thing, by the way. Biggest thing you guys have
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: ever done in your career. Fucks our face.
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, no, I mean.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: I was like, you know, maybe you want to talk
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: about Cena a little bit. But yeah, it came to fruition.
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: I mean, I'm remembering it correctly, right? It was really
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: laid back. There was no.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: And from what I understand, the way he tells it,
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: he really wasn't rapping prior to he was on the
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: tour bus, I want to say, and he said some
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: shit and Stephanie McMahon heard it and said, can you
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: do that?
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: Oh, okay. Yeah, maybe, yeah. Yeah, but he was rapping
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: before that. But he was.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: So he was rapping, like, before wrestling. Yeah, freestyling.
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: Messing around. Yeah, yeah. He's always had the same mindset
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: as us. He just lifted more weights, you know what
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: I mean? Right, right, right. But, yeah, he loves all
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: that shit, like, dilated peoples. You know, he knows all
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: that stuff. He's ahead, man. And then, you know, he
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: took that song into the ring, and then, for me...
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: like it was, you know, made it to the, uh,
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: SmackDown five, SmackDown become the, you know, uh, video game,
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: the video.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: Yes. Of course.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: And I was living with my man truth and my
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: man beyond there. And we would just play that all
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: the time and have him come out. And it was
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: like our song, you know, cause he produced it. My boy,
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: it's on the PlayStation. We're like, you know, we probably,
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: we wasted half our life playing that game. And, uh,
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: But Cena's, you know, always been great to us because
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: of it. And, you know, we'd go sit ringside and
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: all that shit. And then, you know, and then.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: And now, I mean, obviously, he's a part of the
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: comic book world now.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: Yeah. Peacemaker. Peacemaker, yeah. And then, yeah, that led to
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: him making that full album with Bumpy Knuckles. You know
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: what I mean? I feel like their deliveries are similar, too. Like, John,
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: you know, because... John had a choice. He could have
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: got anyone in the world and he's like, you know what,
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: let me get Freddie Fox, Bumpy Knuckles, which is, you know,
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: a choice that we would make.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: There's a lot of underground, I think, was Merz on
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: that album?
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: Merz on it, yeah.
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. They definitely got a song and a
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: video together.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: How many beats did you do on that album?
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: Initially, I did six, but over time, I did zero
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: that actually made the album because the samples, they couldn't
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: either find the people who were holding the rights because
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: a lot of them Back then I was collecting a
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: lot of records from overseas, so they just couldn't even
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: track down the source. Like when we go on tour
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: in Europe, I'd be buying up all these like jazz
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: records from out there that weren't available here and making
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: beats with them. And then when they really were going
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: down to clear stuff, they just like, we can't do this.
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: And a lot of it was money too. They're like,
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: this is just too expensive.
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: That's got to be crazy. Like, you guys grew up
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: with the greatest, I mean, you know, depending on who
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: you ask.
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: You know, he is, in the conversation, the greatest of
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: all time.
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. Still surreal. And we've done shows with him, like,
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: on stage, because he went out to promote the album,
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: and we'd come out and rock with him, and he'd
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: be out there with his fish.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: What is the John Cena promo.
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: Concert run like?
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: Well, Rockin' joins off the album. And he produced, I mean,
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: he's grown that.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: But is it a crowd full of wrestling fans?
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Absolutely, yeah. So, you know, I'd
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: come out, like, you know, with the fitted, you know
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: what I mean? And just, like, dressed like myself. I
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: was always dressed. And he'd be doing the same thing.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: And Cena's out there with no shirt on. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: Yeah, literally.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: Fucking sweatpants and all that shit.
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: Nah, he is.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: Giant chain.
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: That was with Bumpy Knuckles on that tour.
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: Yeah, he was on the tour. Yeah, those are great
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: times because I've been a wrestling fan my whole life.
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: And then I chilled a little bit, but when he
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: was in the ring, I'm like, oh, my God.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: That's our boy.
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: I got the soul.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's got all the Mitchell and Ness. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: The throwbacks, it was like, this is just incredible. You
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: know what I mean?
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: So I got really back into it, and I probably
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: appreciate it for the same reason you do. Is he like....
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: Aware of how big the Czarface thing has gotten?
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: Yeah, he just posted Frankie Pulitzer the other day. Oh,
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: he did? Yeah.
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: On his Instagram, yeah.
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: Yeah, so he's, you know.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: I tell you, it would be crazy. Because now, like,
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: Cena's like, I feel like he's bored for sure. By
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: the way, busy guy.
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: Like, he's doing movies.
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: Just a little bit.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: But, like, I feel like if you guys catch him
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: in the right pocket of off-season, Czarface meets John Cena?
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: Are you fucking kidding me?
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: It could happen.
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: Well got Dustin back there he's drooling back there he's
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: standing up the brain of this it could all be
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: it could all just be hey Comic Con New York's
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: next month yeah you.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: Guys let's talk to Peacemaker even if it's just a
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: 12 inch you know even if it's.
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: Just a record yeah yeah what is I.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: Always hear like if you are a part of I
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: have a friend of mine Mega Ran who did the
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: last yeah that's family from Phoenix Grammy nominated yeah yeah
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: so mega ran he did the new day song um
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: but i was here like what is like the business
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: side of like doing a theme song for ww they
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: just cash you out you get pub like how does.
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: That now that one i don't have nothing for that
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: you know are you just.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: Like it's just like i fuck it we're gonna we're
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: in playstation 2 no.
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: We just no but you gotta pay for that did
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: i Jesus Christ.
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: That's how we got his range roller. No, no, no.
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: But I will say the beats, the music we made
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: that did not make the record, he still took care
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: of me.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: So he still took care of you.
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: He didn't have to.
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: Even the song when I was doing it, I was like,
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: let's just do it.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: Well, that song is like I'm the kind of guy,
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: and he's been in the car with me for six
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: hours at a time before I ride around, and I
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: listen to wrestling theme songs like it's a fucking, like
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: it's Illmatic.
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: Okay. Oh, wow.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: Okay. Like, I'm just bumping Sexy Boy by Sean Michaels
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: from front to back. And this was like, what kind
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: of gay ass shit are you? I'm like, it's Sean Michaels!
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: Heartbreak Kid.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: But that is a record that has to stream like crazy. Like,
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: I'm sure you guys are like, on the pub side,
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: it's not bad, I'm sure.
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: Well, you know... I got a check from WWE and
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: I remember it. And I just was like, holy shit.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: And it came by virtue of John, of course. And
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: I was just like, wow. And then eventually the Marvel
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: and Sony situation. And then, you know, now I'm after DC.
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: Check you out.
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: And then I can just retire.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: But with that being said, yeah, well, listen, the album
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: is out. Go support it. Czarface meets Frankie Pulitzer. Yeah.
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: Out right now.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: You guys have a new single out with Method Man.
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: Videos out.
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: Videos out.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: Any other video shot?
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: Yeah, we have an animated video that came out before. Oh,
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: I saw that one. Oh, yeah. Yeah, so that was
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: kind of felt like inspired by Batman animated series. It
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: was done by my man James Rotano from TFU. And yeah,
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: we lean heavy on actual animation and love it and
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: want it to exist. There's actually the same guy that
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: did MF Doom's all caps video. And so it was
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: great working with him again.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: I think Zarface should meet Run the Jewels on a song.
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: Would love that, man.
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: Obviously, LP's on the new shit, but I just feel
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: like an official, maybe like a rap Comic-Con nerd's wet dream.
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I would love to do that, man. I wanted
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: to get one in with LP first, and we were
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: able to do that, and maybe that will be in
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: the future.
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: Zar TJ.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: What is the better animated series, X-Men or Batman?
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: Batman.
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: Because I think those are the two best.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I do too. I do too. It's tough. It's
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: like asking me if I like Marvel better or DC better.
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: I'm just one of those guys. I like both of them.
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: I like them both too. I'm a Batman guy. I
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: fucking hate Superman. Really? It's just like I hate Captain America.
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: A couple of pussies.
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: You get it.
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: You guys are so fucking perfect. But Batman's a dark motherfucker.
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I love Superman. I love Cap.
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: I love Batman. Not too many guys I don't like.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: I like Super Dog. I like the fucking dog. I'm
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: a big dog guy.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: I'm probably a bigger dog guy than you are. We
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: could do a whole podcast. I have two, but one
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: has a split personality, so that's three for me too.
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: I got a Pomeranian. I don't have real dogs. I
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: got a cat. My wallpaper is my dog. Oh, shit.
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: Mine's my dog too. one of them but yeah but
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: we could uh if you want to go into a
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: podcast about dogs we could do that.
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: Do you have a do you have a dog podcast
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: a dog cast.
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: No the dog cast see there it is clip that
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: uh uh yeah uh i'm just i'm a real uh
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: you know What kind of dogs do you have? I
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: got a Lab and a Hound. They're both real dogs
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: because they're both over 50 pounds. They're both rescues, and
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: they both have a lot of trauma.
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: My friend, one of my best, so I got my Pomeranian.
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: I don't know how I got him.
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: I got him. Yeah.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: I had him as a puppy, but one of my
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: best friends is one of these pieces of shit who
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: started breeding Frenchies during the pandemic.
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: So he gave me the run of two litters for free.
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: So I got two retarded Frenchies.
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: I mean, they are ridiculous.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: I mean, absolutely. And when I say retarded, I'm not
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: saying it in an offensive 90s way. I mean, they're retarded.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: Look up the definition, two retarded dogs.
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: I think any dog wants, whether it's a purebred dog
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: or a mixed, whatever it is. Yeah, they're mutants.
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: They've been bred so much, their faces shouldn't look like that.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: One of them's a furry. I got a furry friend.
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: He shouldn't exist. He's like a fucking Pokemon. He's like
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: a Labubu. I want to hang him off of my
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: belt loop.
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: Yeah, but I want to make it clear, like your dogs,
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: even though they're like bite size.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: Bite size and retarded.
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: They're every bit as much of a dog. as my dogs. No, no,
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: you have a lab. Your lab is, you got a
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: real dog. Well, I think all dogs are real dogs.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: I want to, you know, but if I had a choice,
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: I would take a lab.
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I grew up a lab, so I get it.
