- 0:09Speaker 1: Origion Pockets Welcome to Patriot's Unfiltered. After I woke myself
- 0:19Speaker 1: up at seven forty five after traveling back from Buffalo,
- 0:22Speaker 1: I woe is me? I shouldn't have said that. Anyways.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Everything this team does like they do nothing right, and
- 0:28Speaker 1: it's like, that's a great rant have They love that?
- 0:31Speaker 1: But Conky is a slot receiver. Keep chasing the untalented
- 0:35Speaker 1: bumps and keeps seeing you like that without breathe. I
- 0:40Speaker 1: remember Paul calling West Welker Pockets. I wish he took
- 0:43Speaker 1: a rocket shot at me just now. Freddie's one hundred
- 0:45Speaker 1: percent right because I said that bottom, I would love it.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I'd be so mean to Evan. I thought that was
- 0:53Speaker 1: a really great throw and get shut up, like, oh
- 0:55Speaker 1: I love him. You the four of you are no
- 0:59Speaker 1: on Aaron Rodgers. Oh I don't want the back to
- 1:02Speaker 1: back league MVP? Like what is wrong with you? People's
- 1:06Speaker 1: I think he has the best skills that I've seen. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:09Speaker 1: you hate him and you don't want him here. I
- 1:11Speaker 1: can make one point before you break. This is Patriot's Unfiltered,
- 1:16Speaker 1: fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It
- 1:22Speaker 1: is Thursday here at Jolette Stadium, and uh uh, you know,
- 1:27Speaker 1: big news yesterday or big report yesterday from Tom Kern.
- 1:30Speaker 1: We're gonna leave right off with that that the meeting
- 1:32Speaker 1: between Bill Belichick and Robert Craft did in fact happen,
- 1:35Speaker 1: and Bill is open to making changes. So basically we're
- 1:40Speaker 1: going to continue our discussion from yesterday about what those
- 1:44Speaker 1: changes might be. But you know, before we get into that,
- 1:46Speaker 1: and it's Dues, it's Tamarat's Evan, it's Paul. Matt's in
- 1:50Speaker 1: the booth. I just want to say something about Matt
- 1:52Speaker 1: Patricia because you know, it's it's you know, hunting season,
- 1:57Speaker 1: Patriots Nation. Instead of killing this guy, they should be
- 1:59Speaker 1: faking him, you know, because he was asked to do
- 2:03Speaker 1: what he was asked to do, a job that he's
- 2:05Speaker 1: never done before, never had experience done at really any level,
- 2:09Speaker 1: and he did it. He accepted the job, and he
- 2:12Speaker 1: did it to the best of his capability at the time.
- 2:16Speaker 1: And whether or not you think it was all his fault,
- 2:19Speaker 1: some of his fault, whatever, he did, what he was
- 2:22Speaker 1: asked to do. That does not merit the attacks that
- 2:27Speaker 1: you know, you could say he didn't do a good job,
- 2:29Speaker 1: but the personal attacks. And I know I've said this before,
- 2:32Speaker 1: but I wanted we should actually be thanking him, assuming
- 2:36Speaker 1: that changes are going to actually happen as a result
- 2:39Speaker 1: of this meeting, Patron's nature should thank him for the effort.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I'm serious, I really am. I mean, I agree with
- 2:46Speaker 1: the point. I just I felt like he was putting
- 2:47Speaker 1: an impossible position last year. How do you coach the
- 2:49Speaker 1: offensive way bill? You know, it's it's not so. I
- 2:55Speaker 1: just wanted I just needed to get that off my
- 2:57Speaker 1: chest because I heard, you know, the buffoon and the
- 3:00Speaker 1: large ass and all this stuff, and it's like, it's
- 3:02Speaker 1: not fair. You know. It's like, dude, if if I
- 3:05Speaker 1: hired you to be a writer and then in midway
- 3:07Speaker 1: I said, hey, can you start video editing? Could do that? Well,
- 3:10Speaker 1: I'll you know, I'll give it a shot. You know,
- 3:13Speaker 1: you step up, you step up, you know, assuming you
- 3:15Speaker 1: had never done it, you step up, and you give
- 3:17Speaker 1: it a shot because I asked you to do it.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, and then you didn't do such a good job.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Well it's my fault. Yeah, I should I should have
- 3:23Speaker 1: hired a video editor put me in that position. So, right,
- 3:26Speaker 1: So I just wanted to get that off my chest. Okay,
- 3:30Speaker 1: all right, I agree with your overall point that the
- 3:33Speaker 1: the the name calling it. I hate it too, Like
- 3:37Speaker 1: we're better than that, right, We're better than resorted to
- 3:40Speaker 1: name calling. What that said. It's big boy business. I know,
- 3:43Speaker 1: it's a big boy business. He didn't do a good job.
- 3:45Speaker 1: He did not. I'm not saying he did. I'm not
- 3:47Speaker 1: saying that, oh, he did a great job. He did.
- 3:50Speaker 1: He was asked to do a job and he did.
- 3:51Speaker 1: It's something he's never done before. So hey, thank you,
- 3:56Speaker 1: now goodbye. Yeah, and I'm not saying you fire him, either,
- 4:00Speaker 1: reassign him. And let's you know, assuming you know that
- 4:03Speaker 1: the talk yesterday included what are we gonna do with OC?
- 4:07Speaker 1: And so now we can jump into what we think
- 4:10Speaker 1: will come from yesterday's meeting precisely. I think that he
- 4:14Speaker 1: played the hand he was dealt and it wasn't a
- 4:16Speaker 1: great hand, but he did the best he could with
- 4:17Speaker 1: what he had. Yeah, and now, like I said Tuesday,
- 4:21Speaker 1: the band aid's being ripped off. So I'm super excited that,
- 4:25Speaker 1: you know, a lot of what we talked about was,
- 4:27Speaker 1: you know, where's Bill's mindset right now? Does he think
- 4:29Speaker 1: that everything went well this year? Does he think that
- 4:31Speaker 1: he doesn't need to make any changes? Well, clearly he
- 4:34Speaker 1: does think there's needs to be changes made. And I'm
- 4:36Speaker 1: excited to see what's going I want to throw something
- 4:38Speaker 1: out there. Do you guys, do you find it at
- 4:40Speaker 1: least a little curious that Matt that Tom Current is
- 4:44Speaker 1: the only one to have this report? Yes, I do,
- 4:47Speaker 1: I do. I mean, it's just it feels like, oh,
- 4:49Speaker 1: thanks Tom, We're okay now, like I mean, and I'm
- 4:52Speaker 1: not questioning it. It's just funny how well Tommy Current
- 4:55Speaker 1: said it's gonna be okay. So I guess this is
- 4:56Speaker 1: what it is. You know, I just say, do you think?
- 4:58Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think he it it's gonna be okay.
- 5:01Speaker 1: He just said that, you know, reported it. Bill Belichick
- 5:03Speaker 1: is open to making changes. Somebody told Tom Curran that
- 5:07Speaker 1: the meeting in fact took place and that Bill was
- 5:09Speaker 1: open to making changes, right and he and only him,
- 5:12Speaker 1: because I assume if somebody else got it, they'd be
- 5:15Speaker 1: right out there, you know, So why why him? Why
- 5:18Speaker 1: only him? Tell me some of the details also were
- 5:23Speaker 1: very very specific, so it was almost like he was
- 5:26Speaker 1: in the room, right. It's it's obviously coming from somebody
- 5:30Speaker 1: pretty high up, because I don't think Tom would put
- 5:32Speaker 1: his name on something that he's not one hundred percent on.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I really believe that, So it's obviously coming from somebody
- 5:39Speaker 1: that was probably in the room or adjacent to being
- 5:43Speaker 1: in the room or whatever. But I did find it
- 5:46Speaker 1: interesting that that that came out and no one has
- 5:49Speaker 1: really Now I'm not saying it's wrong, I just know
- 5:52Speaker 1: one's no one's even really confirmed it, right, I know.
- 5:55Speaker 1: That's what I'm just saying is like I and I
- 5:57Speaker 1: understood what how it was, you know, delivered, But I
- 5:59Speaker 1: just feel like you're telling us what we want to hear, like,
- 6:01Speaker 1: you know, and maybe it is true, but you're telling
- 6:04Speaker 1: us what people want to hear, and is it true?
- 6:07Speaker 1: I mean, the proof is in the pudding with the
- 6:08Speaker 1: moves that they're actually gonna do. So you're you're calling
- 6:11Speaker 1: off the dogs a little bit right now with that report.
- 6:14Speaker 1: But at the same time, I just I wonder if
- 6:16Speaker 1: there actually will be action. It's I just I think
- 6:19Speaker 1: it's a fair I think that's a fair wonder. I
- 6:21Speaker 1: guess I'm in a vast minority. I wasn't anywhere near
- 6:24Speaker 1: as excited about the way it was phrased yesterday as
- 6:27Speaker 1: I was hoping to be okay go on, I just
- 6:32Speaker 1: kind of like some of the phraseology. Like Evan said,
- 6:34Speaker 1: you know, there was a paragraph there in the middle
- 6:38Speaker 1: that I found really interesting when it said, as of,
- 6:42Speaker 1: you know, four to fifteen or something like that, on Sunday,
- 6:45Speaker 1: they were still potentially a playoff team, and had they
- 6:48Speaker 1: made the playoffs, it would have been possible if they
- 6:51Speaker 1: would have kept everything the same. So I understand Bill
- 6:55Speaker 1: is a singularly focused guy, and he was it was
- 6:58Speaker 1: all Buffalo. I get that. That's how he's always in
- 7:00Speaker 1: and that's how the head coach should be. He doesn't
- 7:02Speaker 1: make a decision or it doesn't snap the ball until
- 7:04Speaker 1: it was one second left on the play clock. But
- 7:06Speaker 1: but am I to believe or infer from that that
- 7:10Speaker 1: line that the difference between changes and no changes was
- 7:16Speaker 1: the result of the game on Sunday? Yeah? I don't
- 7:18Speaker 1: buy that. I mean, and that scares the crap out
- 7:21Speaker 1: of me, right that, Yeah, Because I think it was
- 7:25Speaker 1: pretty apparent a long time ago that they needed to
- 7:29Speaker 1: do something different. Yeah. So, and I hope that they
- 7:32Speaker 1: really do believe that something needs to be done. Yeah.
- 7:36Speaker 1: So again I'm with Paul and I'm with you dudes,
- 7:39Speaker 1: like when are the changes going to be made? And
- 7:42Speaker 1: I agree with what current said this. You know, Bill
- 7:45Speaker 1: is not going to be throwing red meat to the masses.
- 7:47Speaker 1: And this guy's fired. This guy's fired, and we're hiring
- 7:51Speaker 1: this guy in big press conference. No one needs That's
- 7:53Speaker 1: that's not their style. I know everybody keeps talking about that.
- 7:56Speaker 1: No one needs that. And I also wonder if anyone's
- 7:58Speaker 1: actually going to get fired or whether they'll be reassigned,
- 8:01Speaker 1: because it says several offensive coaches are under consideration for
- 8:05Speaker 1: the Patriots twenty twenty three stat So that makes me
- 8:07Speaker 1: feel like no one. People might not be fired, but
- 8:11Speaker 1: they might have a new assignment. Yeah, I took that
- 8:14Speaker 1: a different way. I did too. I took that meaning
- 8:17Speaker 1: there are several coaches that are going to be under
- 8:19Speaker 1: consideration to come in from the outside, right and if
- 8:22Speaker 1: and I hope that's true, but they've better move fast
- 8:25Speaker 1: because if there are any good other teams are looking
- 8:27Speaker 1: at him. Well, that's why I wonder if teams, you know,
- 8:32Speaker 1: like right, I have a guy. By the way, I
- 8:34Speaker 1: shared this with Fred before the show. I have a guy,
- 8:36Speaker 1: and I liked a guy. I don't know. I don't
- 8:39Speaker 1: who's this guy? Greg Olson? Tell us about your guy
- 8:41Speaker 1: on the rams um And you know, I when Sean McVay,
- 8:45Speaker 1: Sean McVay is contemplating his future, you know, oh what
- 8:48Speaker 1: was me? I'm a head coach, I mean like twenty
- 8:50Speaker 1: million dollars a year. But he's contemplating his future. He
- 8:53Speaker 1: almost retired last year after they won the Super Bowl.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I think he might be stepping away. Um. I think
- 9:00Speaker 1: he's burnt out. I think he's got Dick vermil syndrome
- 9:02Speaker 1: a little bit McVeigh. But anyway, he informed his staff
- 9:05Speaker 1: that they're free to explore rather opportunities because he doesn't
- 9:09Speaker 1: want to hold them hostage, even if they're under a contract. Okay,
- 9:12Speaker 1: Greg Olsen has no no, no no, not the tight end
- 9:17Speaker 1: he is. And he's a little older than I would like.
- 9:19Speaker 1: He's fifty nine, not that you know. Fred told me
- 9:23Speaker 1: not to be an agist. I'm not an agist. I mean,
- 9:26Speaker 1: obviously I'm fifty four, so I'm not an agist. He
- 9:30Speaker 1: spent some time with the Raiders last year and arguably
- 9:35Speaker 1: had the best success with Derek Carr. I mean, the
- 9:38Speaker 1: Raiders had a pretty good offense last year. He's been
- 9:40Speaker 1: with the Rams previously. He had a really good year
- 9:42Speaker 1: with Jared Goff I think in the Super Bowl year.
- 9:47Speaker 1: But he's a guy that comes from and here's where
- 9:50Speaker 1: everyone's going to fill in some blanks for me. He's
- 9:52Speaker 1: under Sean McVeigh, which is sort of part of that
- 9:55Speaker 1: Shanahan tree and some of that offense and some of
- 9:57Speaker 1: the some of the principles and concepts that I think
- 10:01Speaker 1: think Bill wants to incorporate, and he could be available. Yeah. Um,
- 10:07Speaker 1: I hate the idea of them being a Shanahan offense,
- 10:10Speaker 1: I really do. But if he wants to be a
- 10:12Speaker 1: Shanahan offense and he's got Hi, you're gonna have to
- 10:14Speaker 1: get over that. I just I just don't think if
- 10:18Speaker 1: it's the personnel, I think you gotta start over. Basically,
- 10:21Speaker 1: the only offensive line that you have currently on the
- 10:23Speaker 1: roster that fits it as cold strange. So you're not
- 10:27Speaker 1: gonna run outside zone with a three hundred and forty
- 10:29Speaker 1: pound guard talking about Mike on WEENU Like, you're just
- 10:31Speaker 1: not doesn't fit Ramander Stevenson in an outside zone. Do
- 10:36Speaker 1: you want him trying to bounce it out the out
- 10:38Speaker 1: the on around the corner like you want Mac Jones
- 10:43Speaker 1: bootlegging and throwing on the move. Well, I mean, you
- 10:46Speaker 1: know what I feel you actually said on Tuesday, and
- 10:49Speaker 1: I agree with you. What Bill might think of the
- 10:51Speaker 1: quarterback is maybe sure, But I just and I know
- 10:57Speaker 1: it's worked with Jimmy Garoppolo to an extent, and he's
- 11:01Speaker 1: not exactly the most fleet of foot quarterback either. I
- 11:04Speaker 1: just don't really love I think you're completely overhauling not
- 11:08Speaker 1: only the offense in terms of scheme, but I think
- 11:10Speaker 1: you're also completely overhauling the offensive terms of personnel. And
- 11:14Speaker 1: I don't think you have to do that. I think
- 11:16Speaker 1: you have some good personnel on offense. I don't think
- 11:18Speaker 1: it's all terrible. So I think that that's a big step.
- 11:21Speaker 1: But you like him over Zach Robinson. I don't know
- 11:25Speaker 1: as much about Zach Robinson other than when he was here,
- 11:28Speaker 1: But right, I'll I'll take. I want somebody new. I
- 11:33Speaker 1: want someone from the outside coming in. I love Bill O'Brien,
- 11:38Speaker 1: and I when I say I love him, I love him.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I loved talking to him, I love dealing with him
- 11:43Speaker 1: on both the personal level of in professionally. I just
- 11:47Speaker 1: think it's more more of the same. I'm not sure that,
- 11:50Speaker 1: you know, it could very well be Bill O'Brien comes
- 11:53Speaker 1: back here and we're fine, you know, and it might
- 11:55Speaker 1: be a simple we don't have to look. It's the
- 11:57Speaker 1: simple solutions sometimes the obvious one, right. If it's not
- 12:02Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien, and then everybody keeps saying, then who, And
- 12:05Speaker 1: there aren't a lot of examples Zach Robinson. I'm fine.
- 12:08Speaker 1: You know, Evan can sell me on Zach Robinson. So
- 12:11Speaker 1: if guy could cover kicks like a banshee in like
- 12:12Speaker 1: two thousand and eight, I mean, in preseason, if it
- 12:15Speaker 1: if it is going to be Bill O'Brien, what's the delay?
- 12:20Speaker 1: Is it him, you know, fielding other offers, or is
- 12:23Speaker 1: it the Patriots waiting to see who shakes loose? I mean,
- 12:27Speaker 1: I gotta imagine he's going to be in the mix
- 12:28Speaker 1: in Houston and Tennessee. I mean, he's he's going to
- 12:30Speaker 1: be in demand Wollens, possibly Vegas. I just I mean
- 12:34Speaker 1: I have a real concern. Maybe the Jets too, who
- 12:37Speaker 1: also need Yeah, I mean I got a real concern
- 12:39Speaker 1: that unless it's maybe Bill O'Brien or one or two
- 12:42Speaker 1: other guys, they're not going to have an offensive cording
- 12:44Speaker 1: they're gonna do with a team thing. Again, like a
- 12:46Speaker 1: real concern. That's why story. You're gonna bring some new
- 12:50Speaker 1: new new people in probably and there'll be some actual
- 12:52Speaker 1: offensive coaches. But I don't think anybody's getting the offensive cornery.
- 12:55Speaker 1: It's gonna continue to be this we're gonna do it
- 12:57Speaker 1: by ken. I don't think that. To me, that's one
- 13:00Speaker 1: of the changes i'd ask for if I'm Robert Kraft,
- 13:03Speaker 1: is like, give the guy the title in the job.
- 13:05Speaker 1: So what if that's like Bill O'Brien's thing where he's
- 13:08Speaker 1: just like, I don't want to come in here and
- 13:09Speaker 1: be part of a Yeah, I think he would. I
- 13:11Speaker 1: think he would be had already been at in the end,
- 13:15Speaker 1: he'd be the offensive coordinator if it was him. But
- 13:18Speaker 1: you know, if we're gonna go back with Tom Curran reports,
- 13:20Speaker 1: Tom Curran is reporting that there's been no contact between
- 13:23Speaker 1: the Patriots and Bill O'Brien, Right, So what's the delay
- 13:27Speaker 1: if if you're interested? You know, yeah, I mean this
- 13:30Speaker 1: advantage now I'm afraid what you said, touson what you said, Paul,
- 13:35Speaker 1: like you know, Bill said, Yeah, I'm not happy either.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Changes have to be made. But what's the pacing of
- 13:43Speaker 1: those changes? You know? Uh? Are we just gonna wait
- 13:47Speaker 1: and I take it, make a decision when there's no
- 13:50Speaker 1: other there's no time left. Or are we gonna be
- 13:53Speaker 1: proactive and we're gonna be aggressive and get what we want,
- 13:57Speaker 1: not what's left? I mean, I to continue this point though,
- 14:01Speaker 1: I just don't think anybody's going to be happy unless
- 14:03Speaker 1: there is a named offensive coordinator. And even if they
- 14:05Speaker 1: bring in somebody who has potentially coordinated an offense elsewhere,
- 14:09Speaker 1: can will they get that title here? I don't think so.
- 14:11Speaker 1: And I think that that's going to be a sticking
- 14:12Speaker 1: point even if they have an offensive coach on that
- 14:14Speaker 1: side of the ball, if they continue to not have coordinators.
- 14:17Speaker 1: And I I think the defensive side of the ball
- 14:19Speaker 1: is interesting as far as this as well, because if
- 14:22Speaker 1: Mayo leaves, does Steve Belichick get the defensive coordinator job?
- 14:26Speaker 1: I mean he kind of deserves it, should, you know,
- 14:28Speaker 1: But do they not? Do they not? Because then it
- 14:30Speaker 1: makes them seem like they have to give an offensive
- 14:33Speaker 1: coordinator too, you know, like are those two connected, Like
- 14:35Speaker 1: do they have to make those moves at the same
- 14:37Speaker 1: time or could they just continue to go no coordinator route?
- 14:39Speaker 1: Why does it have to be so complicated? I know,
- 14:41Speaker 1: I hear you. I hear you, right, And I think
- 14:44Speaker 1: that these are the kinds of questions that Evans see.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Evan's just coming in now with us for a year,
- 14:48Speaker 1: Like these are the kinds of things that drive me
- 14:50Speaker 1: insane because somehow they've convinced others. They've convinced Pat is okay,
- 14:56Speaker 1: this is but this is this is part of the
- 14:58Speaker 1: reason they win. Right, we heard it all offseason. You
- 15:01Speaker 1: don't want to hire or a defensive an offensive coordinator
- 15:04Speaker 1: because then the other teams that you're playing would understand
- 15:07Speaker 1: the tendencies of the offensive coordinator. Like this is really
- 15:12Speaker 1: what some people think that these things help them win,
- 15:15Speaker 1: and I would argue they actually hurt you. They actually
- 15:18Speaker 1: prevent you from spending time worrying about actual football. Yeah. Well,
- 15:23Speaker 1: when you're winning an unprecedented amount of games, and it's
- 15:26Speaker 1: easy to point to seven different things that that are
- 15:28Speaker 1: part of it. And now when nothing's really working and
- 15:31Speaker 1: you have a crappy offense, that's near the bottom of
- 15:33Speaker 1: the league at every important stat you can't really when
- 15:35Speaker 1: your quarterback is a de facto offensive coordinator in his
- 15:40Speaker 1: own right, just gives you so much freedom ye start
- 15:45Speaker 1: to a game. I agree with Deuce's point about if
- 15:48Speaker 1: they do the we don't believe in titles thing again,
- 15:51Speaker 1: I think people won't be happy. I'm pretty sure that
- 15:54Speaker 1: Matt Patricia will not be calling plays next year. But
- 15:57Speaker 1: if it's just sort of a mishmosh and you know,
- 16:00Speaker 1: shell game, we're gonna move this guy over here and
- 16:02Speaker 1: move that guy over here, and there's no like hiring
- 16:06Speaker 1: of an offensive coordinator, then I don't think that's gonna work.
- 16:09Speaker 1: That's that's where I'm keep reading that sentence in the
- 16:12Speaker 1: article where it says reassignments are going to happen. That
- 16:14Speaker 1: makes me feel like people are just gonna be moved around.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Well reassignments, Well, reassignments is not going to be the
- 16:21Speaker 1: offensier and he shouldn't get fired and he's not. Yeah,
- 16:24Speaker 1: I don't think he's gonna get Can I get moved
- 16:25Speaker 1: back upstairs? Yeah? I like that. Why not just making
- 16:28Speaker 1: the defensive coordinator? Yeah, because I think Steve is better
- 16:31Speaker 1: at it than him. He might be, he might be,
- 16:34Speaker 1: you know. I know that's the other thing. A lot
- 16:36Speaker 1: of people, you know, get on Bill about the you know,
- 16:39Speaker 1: the I hate that nepotism and all that stuff. But
- 16:43Speaker 1: Brian and Steve could in their own right be good.
- 16:46Speaker 1: And he was a good play caller. So like, if
- 16:49Speaker 1: they're good, they're good. I don't care who their daddy is.
- 16:52Speaker 1: You know, I'm serious, you know, So, like I mean,
- 16:56Speaker 1: it's been happening and and and the other thing about it.
- 16:59Speaker 1: And I'll bet you, I'll bet you that I sit next.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I'll bet you that the other coaches and players see
- 17:05Speaker 1: Bill being harder on Steve than he is on anyone else. Yeah,
- 17:09Speaker 1: Like the bar for Steve, at least internally has to
- 17:13Speaker 1: be higher because he comes in with the heys the
- 17:17Speaker 1: coach's son, So he has to perform higher to get
- 17:21Speaker 1: the attention of the players, in the respect of the
- 17:25Speaker 1: players because he is the coach's son. So in many ways, yeah,
- 17:29Speaker 1: he got the job. But once you get the job,
- 17:31Speaker 1: you got to prove yourself. And I think he's done
- 17:33Speaker 1: or he's doing that, if you know, if Bill didn't
- 17:36Speaker 1: give him the DC title. Though, when Mayo left why
- 17:38Speaker 1: why do you think he would do I think I
- 17:40Speaker 1: think it's optics. I think he just he just you know,
- 17:44Speaker 1: which is annoying because because like I know, some Mike Shanahan,
- 17:48Speaker 1: like you know, gives Kyle the OC title in Washington
- 17:52Speaker 1: and nobody bats an eye at that, right, But if
- 17:54Speaker 1: he does it here, I just I come to Steve's
- 17:58Speaker 1: defense because I really feel like he's called the defense
- 18:00Speaker 1: very well for two to three years now. I really do.
- 18:04Speaker 1: But you don't think the Schottenheimer's and Shanahan's have gotten
- 18:07Speaker 1: criticism for hiring their kids in the past. I guess
- 18:11Speaker 1: maybe I don't know. I'm not as plugged into those situations.
- 18:14Speaker 1: But that's a good point because maybe my delusion of
- 18:17Speaker 1: having to spend so much time with Felder and Masks, Yeah,
- 18:20Speaker 1: maybe it isn't necessarily an accurate cross view of most people.
- 18:24Speaker 1: I mean, they have that criticize, but you know, a
- 18:26Speaker 1: lot of times these kids are good. I mean, you've
- 18:29Speaker 1: been around the fricking team for like twenty years. I
- 18:31Speaker 1: mean absolutely, you know, I don't I so have I Yeah,
- 18:37Speaker 1: doesn't give me any credentials. You know, A lot of
- 18:39Speaker 1: it could be like, Okay, you know, out of respect
- 18:43Speaker 1: to Gerard, Like Girard's part of it too. I don't
- 18:46Speaker 1: want to name Steve DC, and people think that Gerard
- 18:50Speaker 1: isn't as good, you know, so that could be part
- 18:53Speaker 1: of it. Like while Mayo's here, he's not going to
- 18:56Speaker 1: give anyone the title, but once one of them goes
- 18:59Speaker 1: and it looks like it's going to be growd. Okay, yeah,
- 19:01Speaker 1: now Steve, you're the DC. I get. I kind of
- 19:05Speaker 1: get that. I kind of get that. I didn't be
- 19:07Speaker 1: interesting to see what Mayo does as a play caller
- 19:10Speaker 1: and just what kind of defensive coordinator is if he
- 19:12Speaker 1: goes somewhere, you know, just to you know, it's hard
- 19:14Speaker 1: to extrapolate who does what, but I mean, I think
- 19:16Speaker 1: everybody has kind of come to the conclusion. Steve calls
- 19:20Speaker 1: the plays, Gerard kind of calls the sideline, and they
- 19:23Speaker 1: kind of tag team other stuff. But I definitely if
- 19:26Speaker 1: I was hiring, if I was interested in hiring Gerard,
- 19:28Speaker 1: that would be part of my interview is like Gerard,
- 19:32Speaker 1: what do you do there? And what have you done? No,
- 19:34Speaker 1: I'm serious, what's your role? What's your role? And what
- 19:38Speaker 1: have you done to earn looks as DC? Because I
- 19:43Speaker 1: have to be honest with you, looking in, I don't
- 19:44Speaker 1: know where the you know, the the roles are, what
- 19:48Speaker 1: the responsibilities are, So tell me what your responsibility was
- 19:52Speaker 1: and why that you know gives you the cred to
- 19:56Speaker 1: be now a DC. I want to know that you
- 19:58Speaker 1: saying all that, it's kind of just like why they
- 20:00Speaker 1: won't name one because they're like, see it's working, nobody
- 20:03Speaker 1: knows who's who's doing what. Yeah, that right there, But
- 20:05Speaker 1: that does that help them win games? It doesn't. All right,
- 20:08Speaker 1: that's Paul's point and Mayo's going, so it's not helping
- 20:11Speaker 1: you retain your coaches, it's not helping anything at all.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I just feel like, literally since I've been here, it's
- 20:16Speaker 1: like they're like, we're the New England Patriots and we
- 20:18Speaker 1: don't have to do anything that anyone else is doing.
- 20:20Speaker 1: We can do everything our own way. That's the vibe
- 20:21Speaker 1: I've gotten since I've been here. That's the vibe nobody else.
- 20:24Speaker 1: We do everything in our own way and and it
- 20:28Speaker 1: doesn't matter. And you know, people look at Bill is like,
- 20:30Speaker 1: you know, kind of straight lace. He's a rebel, he
- 20:33Speaker 1: really is. He's he's a rebbel, rouser. He's been all
- 20:36Speaker 1: his life. You know, he goes against the mother, he
- 20:40Speaker 1: goes against the grain a lot, you know, like he
- 20:43Speaker 1: was the guy like like you know, there's all kinds
- 20:47Speaker 1: of like examples, like he's the guy that wouldn't pose
- 20:50Speaker 1: for the coach's photo for all. He won't. He doesn't
- 20:53Speaker 1: go into Madden. He won't be there's always some random
- 20:55Speaker 1: dude coach in the Madden he's he's not. He doesn't
- 21:00Speaker 1: always go with the flow. You know. That's a coach
- 21:06Speaker 1: required ten and that's his tensive. You're just adding unnecessary
- 21:10Speaker 1: stress and complication for no reason. Like your life can
- 21:13Speaker 1: be so much simpler if you just do think. I
- 21:18Speaker 1: will say this though, on the defensive side of the ball,
- 21:21Speaker 1: we we don't know what's going on. The players and
- 21:24Speaker 1: the coaches knows what's going on on that side of
- 21:26Speaker 1: the ball. The offense is a totally different story, uh
- 21:29Speaker 1: from everything that I've heard from the players in the
- 21:32Speaker 1: locker room. Is that where Gerard's value really is that
- 21:36Speaker 1: he's a great presenter. Okay, so he's usually the one
- 21:39Speaker 1: that gets into the front of the room and presents
- 21:41Speaker 1: the game plan to the defense. And he's very very good.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Because I would assume a lot because he played as
- 21:49Speaker 1: able to retain and relay that you got the one
- 21:53Speaker 1: making the game plan and well he I think that's
- 21:56Speaker 1: a collaborative thing between him and Steve. And then obviously
- 21:59Speaker 1: Built comes over the top and says the way but again,
- 22:05Speaker 1: if I'm hiring him as the DC, yeah, that's not
- 22:08Speaker 1: our that's not not how we're set up. What what kid?
- 22:11Speaker 1: What have you done Gerard to give me the confidence
- 22:14Speaker 1: that you can not only present, but you can come
- 22:16Speaker 1: up with the scheme. Yeah, well, I think it's because
- 22:18Speaker 1: gona need to do that. I mean for me, I
- 22:20Speaker 1: would look at as if I was in girod Mao's
- 22:22Speaker 1: position doing the things like that Evan just laid out.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I'd be frustrated because I would feel like it's almost
- 22:27Speaker 1: like practicing football all week and then you get into
- 22:29Speaker 1: the game and you're just kind of like, all right,
- 22:31Speaker 1: Nickel personnel go like you're just calling personnel. You're not
- 22:33Speaker 1: in the game, you're not calling the plays, You're not
- 22:35Speaker 1: you know, like like I imagine as a coach and
- 22:37Speaker 1: a play caller, that that's what you want to do.
- 22:39Speaker 1: I mean I imagine that he is like hear and
- 22:41Speaker 1: Steve call plays and like okay, okay, like not that
- 22:43Speaker 1: there's you know, controversy behind them, but I just if
- 22:45Speaker 1: I was that guy and I want to coach, I
- 22:47Speaker 1: want to call plays, I want to be in the game.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I want to be that guy, not the guy who's
- 22:51Speaker 1: all right, guys, this is what we're gonna do this week,
- 22:53Speaker 1: you know, like that stuff that's not the fun part.
- 22:55Speaker 1: The relationship is a lot like brothers, I would say,
- 22:59Speaker 1: where like there's some there's some tension there just because
- 23:03Speaker 1: that's the nature of their two positions. But those guys
- 23:06Speaker 1: are inseparable there. They're there with each other all the time. Um,
- 23:11Speaker 1: So it's interesting because they there's definitely on the surface
- 23:15Speaker 1: it does not appear that there's any sort of animosity
- 23:18Speaker 1: or tension between the two of them. But just the
- 23:21Speaker 1: nature of their their job is obviously that there's gonna
- 23:24Speaker 1: be some some power struggle there a little bit, which
- 23:27Speaker 1: I do I has to exist, but I don't think
- 23:29Speaker 1: it's anything personal at all. Yeah, i'd agree. I mean,
- 23:32Speaker 1: they play catch a lot. They spend a lot of
- 23:35Speaker 1: time and we've seen it even in the building a
- 23:37Speaker 1: lot walking out together always. Yea, they spend a lot
- 23:39Speaker 1: of time quite the pair quite the pair. Yeah, so,
- 23:43Speaker 1: but i'd want to root out in an interview, D
- 23:47Speaker 1: what exactly did you do that well? And he's like,
- 23:50Speaker 1: I was a defensive play caller for the team when
- 23:53Speaker 1: I played, so like I mean, I you know, I
- 23:54Speaker 1: I he knows the role. And say, I mean if
- 23:57Speaker 1: your Mayo, you could say I ran the defense. The
- 23:59Speaker 1: coach his son got the credit for calling the place,
- 24:01Speaker 1: Like it's an easy interview process if you wanted to
- 24:04Speaker 1: do it that way. Like, I don't think that's a
- 24:06Speaker 1: big deal now whether or not it's accurate and you're
- 24:09Speaker 1: hiring the right guy if you're you're I don't know, ye, Like,
- 24:11Speaker 1: I don't know how great these coaches are. It sounds
- 24:14Speaker 1: like in Cleveland it's gonna be Brian Flores. Oh yeah,
- 24:17Speaker 1: that's he's the first one in, and and that that
- 24:20Speaker 1: seems to be the consensus is that he's the front
- 24:24Speaker 1: runner for sure. Like I made the argument with with
- 24:27Speaker 1: my my boys on my show yesterday. You know, they
- 24:29Speaker 1: were like, you know what kind of messages that send
- 24:31Speaker 1: when you if you let Mayo go? And then and
- 24:34Speaker 1: I was like, well, what if Steve Beliticcks a better
- 24:35Speaker 1: coach than Gerard Mayo right, And I'm not saying I'm
- 24:38Speaker 1: not saying that he is. Please don't put words in it.
- 24:40Speaker 1: But what I but I'm asking what if Yeah, they know?
- 24:44Speaker 1: Like so I don't, I don't think And they were like, well,
- 24:48Speaker 1: it just sends a bad message because the players look
- 24:50Speaker 1: at it as the you know, the coaches. Sounds like, well,
- 24:53Speaker 1: the players also know if the coach's son is a right,
- 24:56Speaker 1: is a worthy coach. They know if he's any good.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Now I have my question. It's about that. I don't
- 25:00Speaker 1: know what they all think, right, but just saying like
- 25:04Speaker 1: just just to make a blanket statement and saying what
- 25:06Speaker 1: kind of messages it sends, Well, it sends no message
- 25:10Speaker 1: because if Mayo is going because there's a guy ahead
- 25:12Speaker 1: of him, what who cares what the guy's last name is?
- 25:16Speaker 1: If he's ahead of him, if he's a better coach, yeah,
- 25:19Speaker 1: you know, I just I think it's that big a deal.
- 25:21Speaker 1: What about Mayo to Tennessee? Are they most of the
- 25:25Speaker 1: coaches they've got rid of their offensive? Okay, I don't
- 25:30Speaker 1: think on the d d ND, I'm sure that's Fray
- 25:32Speaker 1: Bulls show. Yeah. Anyway, I just I just say, like
- 25:35Speaker 1: when we got to actually see Mayo last week at
- 25:37Speaker 1: the podium. I think it's one of the first times
- 25:38Speaker 1: I've seen him just kind of speak at a podium.
- 25:40Speaker 1: He's he's he's got it, you know, like he just
- 25:42Speaker 1: has that engaging personalities. He is. Liked Evan's point about
- 25:46Speaker 1: he's a presenter. Yeah, he's like he articulates, articulate. This
- 25:50Speaker 1: guy is ahead point as well. Yeah, we're talking about
- 25:52Speaker 1: that on Tuesday, like how important it is that you
- 25:54Speaker 1: need to be a great teacher. Yes, oh yeah. So
- 25:56Speaker 1: the guy that I think that they're grooming to potentially
- 26:00Speaker 1: take over from Mayo if Mayo does leave, his DeMarcus Covington,
- 26:03Speaker 1: who a lot of the players really like in that
- 26:05Speaker 1: locker room, and this year I think he talked, took
- 26:08Speaker 1: on a little bit more responsibility on the sideline on
- 26:10Speaker 1: game day and stuff like that as well. He's a
- 26:12Speaker 1: defensive line coach currently, so I think that they're they
- 26:18Speaker 1: have him in the wings. Like I just yeah, he
- 26:21Speaker 1: did the like development he went to was some part
- 26:23Speaker 1: of some program last year. I just himself. I guess
- 26:26Speaker 1: I'm just not worried about the defense if if Mayo leaves,
- 26:29Speaker 1: But it's mostly because of Bill, but I just they
- 26:33Speaker 1: lose Patricia, their defense is fine. They lose Flores, their
- 26:36Speaker 1: defense is fine. Completely agree. I don't worry about the
- 26:39Speaker 1: coaching on defense or about the players. We started talking
- 26:41Speaker 1: about this seven because you said, why don't you just
- 26:43Speaker 1: put Patricia as DC said, Oh you said it, somebody
- 26:46Speaker 1: said it. It's like, well, you don't need to do that. Yeah,
- 26:49Speaker 1: if you want to move Patricia back over the defense
- 26:51Speaker 1: side of the ball just to fill out the staffa
- 26:53Speaker 1: on that side of the ball, I mean, it's ridiculous
- 26:56Speaker 1: that you're bouncing the guy around. But I would much
- 26:59Speaker 1: rather on that side of the ball coaching linebackers like
- 27:02Speaker 1: he used to do, or something like, say he's defensive coach.
- 27:05Speaker 1: If you're losing a defensive you know, personnel then right,
- 27:09Speaker 1: I mean, if they want him to coach, you know,
- 27:11Speaker 1: he used to coach linebackers for the Patriots, Ron Mayo
- 27:13Speaker 1: coaches linebackers for the Patriots right now. So if Gerard
- 27:16Speaker 1: Mayo gets hired by somebody else and you want Patricia
- 27:18Speaker 1: to go back to coaching linebackers like he used to do,
- 27:21Speaker 1: then that's st Yeah, but then you can't really take
- 27:25Speaker 1: play calling from Steve to give it to him. So
- 27:27Speaker 1: is he going to be read like you go from
- 27:28Speaker 1: making him do too much to now he's just kind
- 27:30Speaker 1: of the guy on the sideline like Gerard is doing
- 27:33Speaker 1: the play. Oh, you give other things to do. I
- 27:34Speaker 1: just wanted do you think it's more likely that he
- 27:36Speaker 1: goes up to up back to the football advisor role
- 27:39Speaker 1: or coaches the offensive line. Like I from what I
- 27:41Speaker 1: heard before he was given the offensive duties was that
- 27:46Speaker 1: he was getting really involved in personnel and he was
- 27:49Speaker 1: actually building up that department, like from software up to
- 27:55Speaker 1: people who work in there. He was like building his
- 27:57Speaker 1: own department there. And so that's I was really surprised
- 28:00Speaker 1: in the off season when we found out he was
- 28:03Speaker 1: now going to be a play caller, and because I
- 28:05Speaker 1: thought that's what he wanted to do. He wanted to
- 28:08Speaker 1: get more involved in the general manager personnel side of
- 28:12Speaker 1: football because he was sick of coaching. So after that true,
- 28:15Speaker 1: after that Detroit experience, if that's true and you thought
- 28:18Speaker 1: that that's what he wanted to do, then I would
- 28:19Speaker 1: expect deuces scenario here. And if I'm right to go
- 28:24Speaker 1: back to then the thank you becomes even bigger because
- 28:28Speaker 1: he basically took a year off from his career path
- 28:30Speaker 1: to help out the team. I mean I don't mean
- 28:32Speaker 1: it as a shutter. I mean I mean I think
- 28:34Speaker 1: we should just buy him, like you know, I do
- 28:37Speaker 1: Rose a new car. Yeah, I mean the sacrifices that
- 28:41Speaker 1: this man made. I mean, he's so like, why do
- 28:44Speaker 1: you have to like thank him? He did a terrible job,
- 28:47Speaker 1: but you don't have to call him names. I get that.
- 28:49Speaker 1: I thought, I'm like thatself. Well, I don't need to.
- 28:52Speaker 1: I mean we really we should thank him to him,
- 28:54Speaker 1: thank you for wasting a year of Jones. Well, and
- 28:59Speaker 1: I've been ruining our first round quarterback. I made twenty
- 29:03Speaker 1: nine minutes before I addressed that open. Well, but I
- 29:06Speaker 1: do think that we were supported, supportive, but we were
- 29:09Speaker 1: understanding of that decision along. I mean they said it
- 29:11Speaker 1: from the get go. How does Matt Patricia have a
- 29:12Speaker 1: good season? He is stacked up against the odds. There
- 29:14Speaker 1: was no way it was going to happen. And at
- 29:15Speaker 1: the very least, he was gonna catch crap the whole
- 29:17Speaker 1: season long for the blocking, for the offensive coordinating, Like,
- 29:21Speaker 1: I mean, that's still could have done a better job.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Oh no, And I but how many people were just
- 29:28Speaker 1: like Josh. Oh my god, Josh the worst play caller, Like,
- 29:30Speaker 1: oh my god. And then Josh leaves and you're like,
- 29:32Speaker 1: oh wow, actually we could have used probably him a
- 29:35Speaker 1: little bit, you know, like it's I don't I just
- 29:36Speaker 1: if I feel like criticism a play calling is such
- 29:38Speaker 1: a like Paul is very much like I only give
- 29:41Speaker 1: credit with credits due. Well there you go. Yeah, I mean,
- 29:44Speaker 1: like Josh my based business. And that's the thing is,
- 29:48Speaker 1: if any of us performed in our job the way
- 29:50Speaker 1: Matt Patricia did, nobody would be thanking us. They'd be
- 29:54Speaker 1: thanking us for our time and please go away. Oh man,
- 29:59Speaker 1: I imagine what that it looks like. And listen. I
- 30:01Speaker 1: am very much sympathetic to what he had to go
- 30:04Speaker 1: through in terms of taking the bullet, like they got
- 30:08Speaker 1: stuck with with what they felt were no options. Yeah,
- 30:12Speaker 1: and he did it. He did them a solid, but
- 30:15Speaker 1: it didn't go well, no, it didn't. I can appreciate
- 30:19Speaker 1: that he doesn't. But he doesn't need to have his
- 30:21Speaker 1: name like and he not for his performance like the
- 30:26Speaker 1: name calling, like Evans said, like, you don't have to
- 30:28Speaker 1: like criticize his appearance because you didn't like the way
- 30:33Speaker 1: he called plays like that's where I would say, is
- 30:36Speaker 1: it's unfair, and that happens a lot. I mean, I
- 30:38Speaker 1: do think you got to point out that he's kind
- 30:41Speaker 1: of getting it pretty good for wearing the Goodell barstool shirt.
- 30:44Speaker 1: And now people are, you know, like like some of
- 30:46Speaker 1: it some of it was actually we haven't heard that
- 30:48Speaker 1: for a while, but we criticized him. Well, there's a
- 30:50Speaker 1: lot of people who have now made the Matt Patricia
- 30:53Speaker 1: version of the barstool shirt of him. But I didn't
- 30:55Speaker 1: know that with the with the I didn't know the
- 30:58Speaker 1: the other thing though, And I also have gripe to
- 31:00Speaker 1: pick with you from your felgram Mas appearance yesterday talking
- 31:03Speaker 1: about Paul. Yeah, but I have a feeling I know
- 31:05Speaker 1: what it is, but I'm gonna go with this first
- 31:07Speaker 1: though they had other options like this, they think that
- 31:14Speaker 1: we can't let them off the hook for that though,
- 31:16Speaker 1: because they had other they had other options internally. Again,
- 31:19Speaker 1: like everybody keeps asking me about Nick Kaylee, Like I
- 31:22Speaker 1: would have much rather have seen Nick Kayley fail on
- 31:25Speaker 1: the job than it did than to do what they did.
- 31:31Speaker 1: At least I would say, oh, it's an offensive guy
- 31:34Speaker 1: and he wasn't ready for that yet Yeah, yeah, you
- 31:36Speaker 1: know what I mean, even if he was just as
- 31:38Speaker 1: bad as Patricia was. Yeah, so what's the nitpick? Oh yeah,
- 31:43Speaker 1: So I listened to you on felgra Mas. It was great.
- 31:45Speaker 1: I'm not just blowing smoke. Good job, okay, but I
- 31:47Speaker 1: disagree with with everything you said. No, not everything. I
- 31:51Speaker 1: disagree with one big thing what you said. No one
- 31:55Speaker 1: Cliff Kingsbury. Why said that to you on Tuesday? I'm
- 31:58Speaker 1: out on Cliff Kingsbury, but you're you're reasoning that you're
- 32:01Speaker 1: out on Cooking. He's been surrounded by immense offensive talents
- 32:04Speaker 1: and really hasn't had great offenses at Texas Tech. At
- 32:08Speaker 1: Texas Tech, they he put up forty five a game
- 32:10Speaker 1: Texas Tech does on everybody in that right, yes, right,
- 32:14Speaker 1: and they lost and they were top five in the
- 32:16Speaker 1: in all of FBS in every category on offense and
- 32:19Speaker 1: they win. They lost all the games. I'm not asking
- 32:22Speaker 1: them to record. I'm not asking him to be the
- 32:24Speaker 1: head coach. The reason why he got fired at Texas
- 32:26Speaker 1: Texas because they had no defense. He couldn't build up
- 32:28Speaker 1: the defense. The defense, right, yeah, I mean, I don't
- 32:32Speaker 1: care about all of the teams are operating the same
- 32:34Speaker 1: way he had. We're not making them the defense. I
- 32:36Speaker 1: don't think we're making them the defensive and every generational
- 32:39Speaker 1: player at the most important position. And he threw for
- 32:41Speaker 1: five thousand yards in fluched. He couldn't win with him.
- 32:45Speaker 1: He couldn't win with him. But they were like twelve fifteen.
- 32:49Speaker 1: I'm not asking I'm not asking him to do that though,
- 32:51Speaker 1: but I'm asking him to find a way to score
- 32:53Speaker 1: enough points to win the games. And they scored forty
- 32:56Speaker 1: five a game, but it required fifty five, Like you
- 32:59Speaker 1: gotta do it. He had a guy that the other
- 33:01Speaker 1: teams didn't defense and more importantly than the Mahomes part
- 33:06Speaker 1: of it, which I had a feeling that that's what
- 33:08Speaker 1: you were going to pay. He hasn't had good offenses
- 33:12Speaker 1: in Arizona. He hand picked the guy. He actually said
- 33:15Speaker 1: before he left Texas Tech, it would be Kyler Murray.
- 33:18Speaker 1: If I had the first pick, it wouldn't even be
- 33:20Speaker 1: And then he got the job and he took Kyler Murray.
- 33:22Speaker 1: I mean they were by the way, It's not like
- 33:24Speaker 1: Kyler Murray is like, you know, given all the mac
- 33:28Speaker 1: Jones excuses, like you know, I know, we don't have
- 33:30Speaker 1: any receiver. They had him like, really good talent around him,
- 33:34Speaker 1: and for other than one half of one season that
- 33:37Speaker 1: he was there, they were kind of average at best.
- 33:39Speaker 1: And this year they they stunned offense. Theoriously pointed that
- 33:43Speaker 1: out to me. You heading into the Arizona game, then
- 33:48Speaker 1: he notoriously fades down the stretch. That's that's a big
- 33:51Speaker 1: thing with him post Thanksgiving or whatever you want to
- 33:54Speaker 1: call it. Uh, he that that does happen with them.
- 33:57Speaker 1: But I like it for two is one because it
- 34:00Speaker 1: would be fun as hell for me. Like I just
- 34:02Speaker 1: watch He's just a really creative schemer. So the different
- 34:05Speaker 1: things that they would do in terms of formations in
- 34:09Speaker 1: motion and all this kind of stuff that I always
- 34:11Speaker 1: geek out about, that would be a lot of fun.
- 34:13Speaker 1: The other thing that I like about him is that
- 34:15Speaker 1: he played quarterback, and I think that when you see
- 34:17Speaker 1: across the league a lot of the young quarterbacks, when
- 34:21Speaker 1: they get with a guy that played the position, it
- 34:24Speaker 1: brings out the best in them. You know, I think
- 34:26Speaker 1: that that really does matter. It just you have this
- 34:29Speaker 1: you're of like mind right, like you're on the same page. Yeah,
- 34:32Speaker 1: I get it. I just so you had said that
- 34:36Speaker 1: you don't want a Shanahan guy because you don't think
- 34:38Speaker 1: it fits mac Jones, but like you want like an
- 34:41Speaker 1: air Raid guy because you think it does fit Mac Jones.
- 34:45Speaker 1: I think that there are elements of ahead, listen. I
- 34:48Speaker 1: think there are elements of it to do. I think
- 34:50Speaker 1: that the biggest reason. So they tried to be a
- 34:54Speaker 1: gun team this year, right they that's what they were.
- 34:56Speaker 1: They were spread team. They tried to spread the field.
- 34:58Speaker 1: And I think when you play that type of offense,
- 35:02Speaker 1: for the most part, you better have good receivers because
- 35:04Speaker 1: if you're gonna do that, then your guy, your receivers
- 35:07Speaker 1: got to win one on one matchups because you're not
- 35:08Speaker 1: going to use misdirection in motion and play action and
- 35:11Speaker 1: all these bells and whistles to get guys open. You're
- 35:13Speaker 1: just going to expect the guy to beat the guy
- 35:15Speaker 1: across from you. So I think Cliff does a little
- 35:17Speaker 1: bit more of that type of stuff. What he really does, though,
- 35:20Speaker 1: is you know he'll start in trips like three to
- 35:23Speaker 1: the side, and then he'll motion a guy and then
- 35:25Speaker 1: it will be four strong, and that's like really difficult
- 35:28Speaker 1: to defend four strong to one side of the field.
- 35:30Speaker 1: So he uses a lot of those types of formation
- 35:33Speaker 1: manipulation to get guys open as more than just one
- 35:37Speaker 1: on one. I also think that he would really help
- 35:40Speaker 1: them on early downs. I think they'd be a lot
- 35:42Speaker 1: more innovative on how they called first down. Well, listen,
- 35:46Speaker 1: if you're gonna ask me Matt Patricia again or Cliff Kingsbury,
- 35:50Speaker 1: I'm a thousand times Cliff Kingsbury. You like the other options.
- 35:53Speaker 1: So when you were saying like he'll do more, th
- 35:56Speaker 1: absolutely like what We're not going to have a repeat
- 35:59Speaker 1: of twenty two, right, you know, regardless of who we pick.
- 36:03Speaker 1: So I'm not telling you I am unequivocally Cliff Kingsbury
- 36:07Speaker 1: can't spell offense. I don't want him anywhere near my offense. No.
- 36:10Speaker 1: If i'm if I'm faced with the options and he's
- 36:12Speaker 1: the best one, I'll take it. I just don't think
- 36:14Speaker 1: his track record is anywhere they're as strong as people
- 36:16Speaker 1: think it is. And I think if he wasn't a
- 36:18Speaker 1: Patriot's draft pick, people would consider him another one of
- 36:22Speaker 1: those guys who've just flamed out, like different kind of offense,
- 36:28Speaker 1: but like Frank Reich. I wouldn't be opposed to a
- 36:31Speaker 1: guy like Frank Reich yeah, Kingsbury's not my number one choice.
- 36:35Speaker 1: My number choice would be Bill O'Brien, but he's my
- 36:38Speaker 1: number two choice. I just Frank Reich worries me because
- 36:43Speaker 1: I think that that's a very It's kind of like
- 36:45Speaker 1: the Shanahan thing, Like that's a very like you're hiring
- 36:48Speaker 1: him to run his system and it's very hyper specific,
- 36:52Speaker 1: and I don't. I don't love the system. So I like,
- 36:56Speaker 1: I like with all different things. And again, if we're
- 36:59Speaker 1: faced with the options, he could be the best one
- 37:03Speaker 1: King's body. So don't you think it'd be like great
- 37:05Speaker 1: to hire said persons sooner rather than later so you
- 37:08Speaker 1: could get the pieces to fit whatever system. I think
- 37:11Speaker 1: the deadline is the hard The hard deadline to me
- 37:14Speaker 1: is the combine because right now the coaches go on
- 37:18Speaker 1: vacation like they're going to be on a week and
- 37:20Speaker 1: a half evidently, right So I think the hard deadline
- 37:24Speaker 1: because once you get to the combine, Nats, when team
- 37:26Speaker 1: building really is starting well pleasure, you're starting to think
- 37:28Speaker 1: about what you're gonna you know, where are you going
- 37:30Speaker 1: to go in free agency, where you're going to go
- 37:32Speaker 1: in the draft, the kinds of players you're gonna require,
- 37:34Speaker 1: you need to have, you know, an idea of what
- 37:36Speaker 1: kind of system you're gonna run by. Yeah, well, and
- 37:38Speaker 1: I have a question on those lines. But do you
- 37:40Speaker 1: think that what's the most likely thing that they're going
- 37:42Speaker 1: to bring in an offensive coordinator who has their own
- 37:46Speaker 1: system that they will then install, that they will bring
- 37:49Speaker 1: in somebody who has their own system, but that we're
- 37:52Speaker 1: going to kind of make it our own, little Patriots Frankenstein,
- 37:55Speaker 1: using some of what we had last year. Or do
- 37:57Speaker 1: you think they're going to bring somebody in and be like,
- 37:59Speaker 1: this is our system, this is our playbook, this is
- 38:00Speaker 1: what you have to you know. I I gotta be
- 38:04Speaker 1: honest with you. I think that that they're incapable of
- 38:07Speaker 1: bringing somebody in who doesn't know their system. Yeah, that's
- 38:10Speaker 1: and having them understand it. That's why I ask. And
- 38:12Speaker 1: so we just saw that what is this system that
- 38:15Speaker 1: they ran last year was is this Bill O'Brien will
- 38:17Speaker 1: come in and be like, oh, I got it? Or see,
- 38:19Speaker 1: I think Bill O'Brien could come in and you could
- 38:21Speaker 1: say we're going to run the system. We're gonna alabama
- 38:24Speaker 1: ize it, you know, to an extent. You know, because
- 38:27Speaker 1: Mac Jones taught Alabama to to Bill O'Brien, So there's
- 38:31Speaker 1: some comfort level, at least on a minor left. I
- 38:34Speaker 1: don't think anybody would argue Bill O'Brian's probably the best choice. Yeah, right,
- 38:38Speaker 1: But I also just wondered, you know, how do you
- 38:40Speaker 1: how do you get Mac back? And I know a
- 38:41Speaker 1: lot of people out there can concerned about Mac third system,
- 38:44Speaker 1: third year changing. That's why I like Bill Obrian so much,
- 38:48Speaker 1: because it's not you're not doing that that would be
- 38:50Speaker 1: the least invasive. Is there anybody else that's not that? Chado'shay,
- 38:55Speaker 1: but I don't like it. Yeah, he was not good
- 38:58Speaker 1: in Miami with Brian Flora. I think he's a position coach. Yeah,
- 39:01Speaker 1: so I that's why I like Bill O'Brien so much
- 39:04Speaker 1: is because you're basically you're running the Patriots offense and
- 39:08Speaker 1: he ran in twenty twenty one with an Alabama flair,
- 39:12Speaker 1: which is plus if you have a delay a game
- 39:15Speaker 1: and you might have a fight in the middle of
- 39:16Speaker 1: the field here. But I just think that Matt, I
- 39:19Speaker 1: think that transition is really smooth for Mac. And that's
- 39:22Speaker 1: why I think sometimes that like Frank Rank brought up him,
- 39:25Speaker 1: that terrifies me, because that's that is a third system
- 39:27Speaker 1: in the third year, right, Like a lot of these guys,
- 39:30Speaker 1: it would be you know, if you're going outside totally,
- 39:33Speaker 1: you probably go in third system in three years. So
- 39:35Speaker 1: since the Patriots loved to do the non obvious choice
- 39:38Speaker 1: or the less easiest choice, I should say then that
- 39:42Speaker 1: probably means they're probably not going to go with Bill O'Brien,
- 39:44Speaker 1: log go with somebody else. But that's such a I
- 39:46Speaker 1: understand where you're coming from. But to me, I'll just say,
- 39:51Speaker 1: if Bill Brian's at the offensive coordinator by the combine,
- 39:53Speaker 1: gonna be mad. Yeah, I'm gonna be mad. He has
- 39:56Speaker 1: no contracts, he has no job, Okay, he wants to
- 40:02Speaker 1: get back into the NFL. And what better way to
- 40:06Speaker 1: get back into the NFL than to come back to
- 40:08Speaker 1: New England fix mac Jones and now you have another
- 40:14Speaker 1: somewhere he's not I don't think he's I don't know
- 40:16Speaker 1: if you will have that, okay, but sure that would
- 40:19Speaker 1: be the only the only thing. But I just it
- 40:24Speaker 1: makes sense. But after a year of doing what did
- 40:27Speaker 1: it make sense? You absolutely need to do the right
- 40:29Speaker 1: thing here, And it's so obvious and it's staring right
- 40:32Speaker 1: at you the guy coordinated your offense and the Alabama offense,
- 40:35Speaker 1: and that's the two offenses your quarterback played in. Yep,
- 40:38Speaker 1: what if if? What if Bill's thinking is I'd rather
- 40:41Speaker 1: have somebody here that I know it's going to be
- 40:43Speaker 1: here for a while, Then that's a mistake. Okay. I
- 40:47Speaker 1: think it's the same as saving I think Sabing goes
- 40:49Speaker 1: every two years. He signs because he knows that his
- 40:52Speaker 1: guy is probably gonna get a better job after he's
- 40:55Speaker 1: done at Alabama, because Alabama's gonna make them look good
- 40:58Speaker 1: because they have five star recruits all over the I've
- 41:00Speaker 1: said that many times about the whole conspiracy theory that
- 41:03Speaker 1: he did Patricia last year because he knew if he
- 41:06Speaker 1: did O'Brien it would be a one and done. So
- 41:09Speaker 1: that you're intentionally you're you're intentionally not doing what's in
- 41:12Speaker 1: the best interest in the team. That's what I don't
- 41:15Speaker 1: like about it. You should hire the coach that's going
- 41:17Speaker 1: to put your team in the best position to succeed,
- 41:20Speaker 1: and if he has to leave after a year or
- 41:22Speaker 1: two and you have to find another one that you
- 41:24Speaker 1: think is because that's what he's only going to leave
- 41:26Speaker 1: if he does a good job. So that's what we're
- 41:29Speaker 1: trying to get back, and let's hang on to all
- 41:31Speaker 1: our coaches for the next ten years. If O'Brien, it's
- 41:33Speaker 1: if it's New Orleans, Tennessee, Vegas, those are the teams
- 41:37Speaker 1: that we've kind of heard about. Okay. I can make
- 41:39Speaker 1: an argument that the Patriots is better than New Orleans
- 41:42Speaker 1: because right now they don't know better than Tennessee because
- 41:46Speaker 1: who knows about the health status of Tannehill. Now. I
- 41:50Speaker 1: think if he went to the Raiders, it would probably
- 41:52Speaker 1: be with an understanding that we're doing something big, you know.
- 41:56Speaker 1: But otherwise he might look at his He knows mac
- 42:02Speaker 1: Jones a little bit. He knows what he can do
- 42:04Speaker 1: and what he can't do. And I think O'Brien wants
- 42:06Speaker 1: to come back here first and foremost because if this
- 42:08Speaker 1: is where he's from, a family, his family's here, Um
- 42:12Speaker 1: he hit he has, Yeah, he could come back and
- 42:15Speaker 1: give us a Southern accent and said, I want to
- 42:16Speaker 1: be part of the program. I think that's why he
- 42:23Speaker 1: wants to come back here. But I could understand if
- 42:24Speaker 1: he looked at it and said, you know, that's a
- 42:26Speaker 1: tough that's a that's a tough turnaround. I mean I'd
- 42:29Speaker 1: be here for Paul. I would just want to see
- 42:30Speaker 1: him coming back into the building and seeing you and
- 42:32Speaker 1: like that, you know, reunion of you and and oh
- 42:36Speaker 1: you're still here. He'd be all over Yea, the bro
- 42:39Speaker 1: Hug would be uncomfortable. Hug you have until the combine.
- 42:42Speaker 1: Bill just put you on notice. He better hire somebody.
- 42:46Speaker 1: He used to bust uh balls for me and Andy
- 42:51Speaker 1: like you would, which means you would get it. There
- 42:54Speaker 1: we go like that, all right, We're gonna take a
- 42:59Speaker 1: break when we come back. I do want to talk
- 43:01Speaker 1: about this Chris Simms revelation that he had yesterday, because
- 43:05Speaker 1: if it's true, I mean it's it kind of sheds
- 43:08Speaker 1: a little light on what might have been going on
- 43:11Speaker 1: throughout the season. So we'll we'll get into that right
- 43:15Speaker 1: after this. Verizon the Network America relies on and the

- 53:05Speaker 1: Check out this snippet from the latest episode of Patch
- 53:07Speaker 1: from the Past with James Devlin. Been lucky enough to
- 53:09Speaker 1: be part of a lot of wins. Yeah, and when
- 53:12Speaker 1: we're asked which one stands out? You know, obviously Super
- 53:15Speaker 1: Bowls are more important than AFC championship games, but I
- 53:18Speaker 1: think you'd be hard pressed the top just in terms
- 53:20Speaker 1: of sheer skill on both sides of the ball. That
- 53:24Speaker 1: game in Kansas City, What do you remember about it?
- 53:26Speaker 1: And you know, just kind of the atmosphere and everything
- 53:29Speaker 1: that went into it. It was probably one of the
- 53:31Speaker 1: landmark wins for you guys, no question. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 53:35Speaker 1: I mean, thinking back in my football career, even from
- 53:39Speaker 1: you know, the starting when I was seven years old
- 53:41Speaker 1: till I retired in twenty twenty, that stands out as
- 53:45Speaker 1: the as my favorite football game I've ever played in.
- 53:50Speaker 1: And it could, honestly like it gives me chills, Like
- 53:53Speaker 1: I if I didn't know the sweatshirt on it, I'd
- 53:54Speaker 1: show my poems and goose bump. Right now, it almost
- 53:58Speaker 1: brings it tier to my eye honestly, because it was
- 54:00Speaker 1: like it was just it was it was like the
- 54:04Speaker 1: perfect team against the world environment. First of all, Kansas
- 54:08Speaker 1: City is a great place to play football, and when
- 54:13Speaker 1: we were walked in there, like you could just feel
- 54:16Speaker 1: how much we like, no one wanted us to be there, right,
- 54:20Speaker 1: so it was us like the forty six guys on
- 54:22Speaker 1: the field, plus you know, all the help we have
- 54:25Speaker 1: on a sideline. So call it like seventy to eighty people.
- 54:29Speaker 1: It was like us against you know all close to
- 54:32Speaker 1: ninety thousand. And this way we started the game like
- 54:37Speaker 1: running the ball. Well, I think we ran lead on
- 54:40Speaker 1: the first play. Sony broke it for like thirteen or
- 54:43Speaker 1: something like that. And then you know, and then it
- 54:47Speaker 1: was a goal line run bang, we score, a goal
- 54:49Speaker 1: line run bang, we score, And it was everything was
- 54:53Speaker 1: kind of like you know, just building and building and building,
- 54:56Speaker 1: and we knew that they were going to break at
- 54:58Speaker 1: some point defensively if we just kind of kept just
- 55:01Speaker 1: you know, kept the punches coming and uh and then finally, yeah,
- 55:06Speaker 1: it kind of did. And then they fought back and
- 55:08Speaker 1: that whole like that just like EBB and flow of
- 55:12Speaker 1: the game and then you know, going into overtime and geez,
- 55:16Speaker 1: like all the third downs that we converted. I mean,
- 55:19Speaker 1: like it is like lighten me up right now just
- 55:22Speaker 1: thinking about it. And then the final play is one
- 55:24Speaker 1: of my favorites of all time. And you know, standing
- 55:27Speaker 1: over Rex, you know as he was in the end
- 55:29Speaker 1: zone is like one of my favorite football memories. Um, yeah,
- 55:34Speaker 1: it was. That was that was truly a special one.
- 55:36Speaker 1: And just the feeling of like brotherhood that we had
- 55:39Speaker 1: like after we won that and like running off the
- 55:42Speaker 1: field and just the exuberance I'm like among like the
- 55:46Speaker 1: misery of all the fans and the other team. It
- 55:49Speaker 1: was like just it was perfect, all right. That was
- 55:53Speaker 1: James Devlin from Patch from the Past. Uh. Paul Parillo
- 55:58Speaker 1: and Matt Smith recently sat down with him and did
- 56:01Speaker 1: another one in the podcast for Pats in the Past,
- 56:04Speaker 1: So U check that out on Patriots dot Com or
- 56:07Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcast Pats from the Past. So
- 56:10Speaker 1: that sounded like it was a good interview Paul. It
- 56:14Speaker 1: was a lot of fun. Yeah, and you know, he
- 56:16Speaker 1: had a lot of very specific memories that I thought
- 56:18Speaker 1: were amazing, just the recall and you know, like him
- 56:22Speaker 1: just talking about you know, the first play was leading
- 56:23Speaker 1: you know, thirteen I didn't look it up, but I'll
- 56:26Speaker 1: bet you it was thirteen yards too. Um. Yeah, just
- 56:29Speaker 1: he's a good guy. Uh maybe a you know, sort
- 56:32Speaker 1: of an understated cog and some of those great teams,
- 56:36Speaker 1: you know as a fullback. Um, you know, got a
- 56:38Speaker 1: little Andy hard in there, just out of of course
- 56:41Speaker 1: Andy had to sneak a question appreciation. I listened to it.
- 56:43Speaker 1: It was fun. I did a little write up off
- 56:45Speaker 1: at that was one of the things that the other thing, uh,
- 56:47Speaker 1: I would I would highlight that I liked. They asked him,
- 56:50Speaker 1: you know, who's the toughest guy he had to go against,
- 56:52Speaker 1: and he actually went with the Landing Roberts in practice
- 56:55Speaker 1: as his toughest guy to take on, and you know,
- 56:58Speaker 1: always the first day of PADS would would sim where
- 57:00Speaker 1: we're just gonna do a lead and it's gonna be
- 57:02Speaker 1: me versus him in the hole, and you know, big
- 57:04Speaker 1: hit every single time. So I thought that was, I mean,
- 57:06Speaker 1: no surprise with the landon roberts KAA was just I mean,
- 57:08Speaker 1: talk about coming downhill, all right, pass from the past
- 57:11Speaker 1: with James Devil and check it out Patriots dot com
- 57:13Speaker 1: or wherever you get your podcasts. Before the break, I
- 57:16Speaker 1: kind of teased something that Chris Simms said and Matt Marine.
- 57:22Speaker 1: Matt got teed up for us. So let's listen to
- 57:25Speaker 1: what he had to say and then we'll discuss Mac
- 57:27Speaker 1: Jones wasn't happy. He was telling people. He wasn't happy.
- 57:31Speaker 1: He was calling people about, hey, can you help us
- 57:34Speaker 1: with ideas and do stuff like that. Right from my understanding,
- 57:39Speaker 1: Belichick found out all these things. He found out that
- 57:42Speaker 1: Mac was talking to people and all this, and there
- 57:46Speaker 1: was some you know, back channel, you know, conversations going
- 57:49Speaker 1: on behind Belichick's back, and I think that's where we
- 57:52Speaker 1: did get personal, all right. So that's Chris Simms and
- 57:56Speaker 1: Chris Sims obviously the son of Phil Simms. But he
- 57:58Speaker 1: played quarterback and was play was here for a while, Um,
- 58:03Speaker 1: one of those assistant coaches, low level. I think he
- 58:05Speaker 1: was in personnel, wasn't he Yeah, a low level Yeah,
- 58:08Speaker 1: So he was here for like a year or two. Yeah,
- 58:09Speaker 1: it wasn't a long Yeah. He spent more time with
- 58:11Speaker 1: us in the kitchen that he had at them, So
- 58:13Speaker 1: I knew he wasn't long for them. But what he said,
- 58:16Speaker 1: if true, is news um that Mac was calling around
- 58:19Speaker 1: outside of the circle looking for help ideas, um, which
- 58:25Speaker 1: tells you a lot of things that he didn't think
- 58:27Speaker 1: that he was getting enough ideas here. He didn't think that,
- 58:30Speaker 1: you know, they could supply him with the help that
- 58:32Speaker 1: he needed. That you confidence, right, and so like if
- 58:37Speaker 1: you're any coaching staff, but especially you know Bill, you
- 58:39Speaker 1: find out about that. I could see things getting a
- 58:43Speaker 1: little frosty. And maybe that's what we saw manifest out
- 58:47Speaker 1: on the field. But again, if true, I don't know,
- 58:50Speaker 1: but I didn't think it was kind of strange the
- 58:52Speaker 1: way he said some of the stuff. Yeah, a lot
- 58:54Speaker 1: of you knows, and uh, you know, and if you
- 58:58Speaker 1: know back channel, you know, uh you know these talk
- 59:02Speaker 1: like I don't know he didn't. It didn't seem like
- 59:04Speaker 1: it was long on specifics. Yeah, I don't know. I
- 59:06Speaker 1: always just have with my radar up with Chris Sims reports.
- 59:08Speaker 1: I don't know, there's this. There seems to be sometimes
- 59:10Speaker 1: to me, ulterior motives with him and things that happened.
- 59:12Speaker 1: But that said, I mean, taking it for what it is,
- 59:15Speaker 1: it's uh yeah, it's bad. I mean that's and you
- 59:17Speaker 1: can understand why the coaching staff would be upset. I mean,
- 59:20Speaker 1: what's worse than one of your players like going outside
- 59:22Speaker 1: of the building and trying to consult with other coaches
- 59:24Speaker 1: and other players for things like I mean, I guess
- 59:28Speaker 1: my question would be who was he calling? So here's
- 59:30Speaker 1: here's something now we don't He didn't say when in
- 59:32Speaker 1: the season this happened, but let's say that it happened
- 59:36Speaker 1: early Bill found out about it was upset. Max's actions
- 59:42Speaker 1: like Minnesota doesn't show to me that this is a
- 59:46Speaker 1: guy who was just disciplined or given his come up
- 59:50Speaker 1: and spy the head coach for doing like he didn't
- 59:52Speaker 1: seem to have any like oh I did a bad Okay,
- 59:56Speaker 1: I'm sorry like that. So like that's why I kind
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: of question the severity of well, I don't know, but like,
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: you know, it sounded to me like he was told
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: he did something wrong. I know, but what if he
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: didn't think he did anything wrong. Well, I'm not apologizing
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: for that. Yeah, then it's even worse, you know, I
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: have I have no idea if that's true. By the way,
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: I'm just I'm just giving it. But his actions afterward
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: didn't come from didn't sound like somebody who had been
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: humbled recently, no more somebody who was in concurrently active conflict.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: All wait for the next time I think he's been humbled.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: All wait for the next time that Chris Sims is right.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know. I I take such a
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: love with Mac Jones. I take such a big grain
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: and solid everything that Chris Sims says. And to Paul's point,
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: whenever he tries to act like he's got sourced information,
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: he never says it with any sort of conviction where
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: you actually believe what he's saying. Did you get like
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: that's it was kind of the way he said, Like
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: if you just read that quote, you'd be like wow.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: But when I heard him say it, and I actually
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: was some you know, you know, there's a lot of um,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: you know, you know, back channel, but talks. So I
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: wanted to pull up the quote from from Bill on
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: on Monday at the Press commerce. I think the quote
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: that's getting so much run is that Mac has the
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: ability to play quarterback in this league. But the very
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: next thing he said was we have to all work
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: together to try to find the best way as a
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: football team, which obviously the quarterback is an important position
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: to be more productive than we were this year. We
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: have to all work together. And I think that as
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: much as he's saying, you know, I think there's some
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: of that with Mac, right Like I think it's buy in,
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: like yes, being able to to say, hey, you know,
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: we take the coaching. And I think that my guess is,
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: honestly is that Chris Simms is talking out of his butt.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: But I think that he's just reading the room like
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: we all have all season long. And you can see,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: okay that Mac was not sold on what he was
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: being coached because it's right there for you. And I
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: think that the head coach said said it as well,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: we have to all work together. And I think at
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: times this year, from training camp on, they felt like
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: Mac wasn't pulling the rope the same direction that they were. Yeah,
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: I agree, and I think that's the bigger issue. I
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: don't know if if Chris Simms is talking out of
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: his butt, but because I think it's a big stretch
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: to say I'm reading the room and I heard that
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: he's was calling outside the organization for help, for suggestions,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: I think that's a big, you know, gap. But I
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: don't know. Like I said, I didn't like the way
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: he said it, didn't say it with much conviction, you know,
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: But I do think that he, like Fred said, he
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: was here. Phil Simms, Chris's father was very tight with
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: Bill Belichick, and I think there's a loyalty there. I
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: wouldn't be surprised if that camp, the Belichick camp. Let
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: this be known. What if Phil Simpson is one of
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: the people he called for help. Well, that's what I'm wondering.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: That I got back to Bill, Like who would mac Jos,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: Josh McDaniels, McDaniels, Sarkisian, Bill Ob Maybe maybe maybe Bob too,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: But I mean I would have think, I say, I
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: would think that that he talks to chalcor Josh. You know,
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: I don't know. I've been saying all year, like do
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: you guys think And I know that, Like there's these wild,
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: crazy rumors on Twitter now about Mac asking for a trade.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: Like we talked about this like halfway through the year,
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: the way it was going. He was so unhappy. Um,
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: I don't think that's out of the remo possibility. He's like,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: you know, like, I know, you got to fix this offense,
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: you know, fix it without me. You know, Derek Carr's
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: now gone. Does Josh want him back? They mean they
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: spent a lot of time hugging in Vegas, right, Yeah, Like,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: I just I don't think anything's off the table. If
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: you're asking me to do, I think any of these
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: things are gonna happen. I'm gonna go with logic. I'm
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: gonna take the field. Probably not. I don't think the
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: odds are you know, what is it. It's more probable
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: than not. Like, I don't think that he'll go anywhere
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: he's got. He's going through his third season. I think
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: the organization's got to do whatever he can to get
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: him back on track and figure out if he's the
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: guy that's gonna be worth that fifth year option after
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: the twenty three season. I think that's probably the way
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: it'll it'll unfold. Mac Jones is back and we'll see
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: what happens. But I don't rule anything out. I don't. Yeah,
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: all right, well let's get some calls and emails. We've
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: got to hurry because even though the Patriots are involved,
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: we still have playoff picks not as many pigs, so
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: we're gonna have to hurry as much. Yeah, Super wild Card,
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: SUPERD I'm excited. I mean, although a lot of dogs,
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: I'm really looking forward to the division around week. But yeah,
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: we'll talk about it. I mean, quarterbacks are playoffs. Got
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: a game at three o'clock on Sunday. I was like,
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: what are we doing? I find good time to miss though.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: I finally got a chance to watch the playoffs and
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: now this I think that's a good time I want.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: I gotta watch. I gotta watch him one and eighteen. Yeah,
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: all right, let's get to the A stick of outline?
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Will Philly? What's up with him? Hey? What's going on
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: for it? Hey? All due tomorrow? How y'all going? You
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: left Evan out and Tomara left? I said, I said, oh, sorry,
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: you know, I ain't gona forget even you know, I'm
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: a fan of I ain't gonna forget now. Um my
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: question is this manfact not if I'm mister Krap, I'm
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: not waiting for Bill. I'm just not. I'm getting on
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: the phone. I'm calling Bill O'Brien. I'm gonna man, try
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: me this trade for Hoppins. I'm not waiting for him
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: because you gotta get this done. You know, all this
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: waiting around and stuff. I mean you're doing. We want
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: to see we want to see progress. You know, the
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: fans they're just on filter and so one and so
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: one even to owner himself. No, I'm not waiting for that.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: I'm just not. Yeah, I mean that's I mean, that's
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: the fear of coming out of this. No, it's gonna
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: be good. He's gonna make changes and then like all right,
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: we'll see in April, like what's gonna happen? You know.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: Then the conversation was, Uh, here are the changes you're
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: going to make? Bill? Yeah, you know, I don't see
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: it going like that, but I hear you, William. We
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: gotta move fast, you know, you don't have to move
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: that fast just by the comma. It's been. It's been. No.
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: I just think that this we we as fans and
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: I totally totally understand, but we as fans want this
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: instant gratification of heads are rolling and we're hiring new
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: guys and things like that, Like this season. The season
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: is not even dead for a week yet. Yeah, I
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: would say that that's true right now. But the longer
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: you wait, I think it becomes like free agency. And
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: that's the way the Patriots almost always approach free agency.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: Let the dumb teams spend all the money and get
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: the good players, will just wait around and get the
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: mediocre ones for half the price. We'll sign time. I'm saying,
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: if there's someone you want move, if if if you're
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: not sold on anyone, okay, wait till the combine. But
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: I'm not saying wait. I'm not saying you have to wait.
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: I'm just saying, you know, it's been a couple of days,
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: like you know, we're not We're not. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: and you know, like what if they stay to Bill O'Brien, listen,
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: make us a promise, just come to us, give us
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: a chance to you know, have the right of first refusal.
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: I don't want that, no, I know, I want Bill
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: O'Brien to be my offensive coordinator. Yeah, then no contact him. No,
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: but like, like obviously if he wants if he says, yeah,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: you know, I'd like to be your OC, but I
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: want to see if I can get a head coaching job. Okay,
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: but come to us before you make anything. If you
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: don't get a head coaching job, right, then come back right. Okay,
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: that's fine, But if I wanted to be an offensive coordinator,
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: I don't want him to go out and shop another
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: team and then come back to me. I'll give you
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: a right, I'm sure, Like, if it's an OC job,
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: this is the place he wants to be. But like
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: I said, he might think I might be able to
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: get a head coaching gig, you know, So yeah, I don't.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: I don't know. I haven't heard his name any of these. No,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: not in the mix. I don't understand why he's not
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: in the mix, but I don't think he is. Maybe
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: now that Jack Easterby's gone, he can go back to Texas.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Where is Jack Easterby? Does anyone else think that Nickossario
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: kind of looks like that Iowa killer? You seen that guy.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: I'm just shocked that he still has Idaho. Sorry Idaho,
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: And I mean with no disrespect, but like, I just
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: don't know what, Like what that Texans roster is horrible,
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: It's horrible, and I don't know, Like Davis Mills neither
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: does he. They're definitely drafting a quarterback, and like, I
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: don't know, is that is that the guy you want
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: to make the decision? You guys, you guys are a
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: way smarter than me. Is Chicago really gonna take Bryce Young?
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: I think, like is that said? I would have to
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: blown away? Like he didn't rule it out. He did
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: the best. I think that Ryan Polster trading that place.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: So no, he didn't say no, but he just I'd
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: have to be blown I just heard like something like
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: I heard it. I forget who it was. Someone said,
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: this is a some real detailed conversations need to be
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: had about whether or not they're gonna like what, Like
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: I definitely think you have to have the conversation. Sure,
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: but I mean they're trading the pick. I mean I
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: look at justin fields as kind of like these, you know,
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: like Josh Allen and like Jalen Hurts, like a couple
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: of years, really good athlete, runs around, makes some plays,
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: little wild, little erratic in the path, and then you
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: get him like three or four years in and I
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: was like, whoa, we got something here, Like that's how
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: I'd be looking at Justin Fields based off of last season.
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: And you want to talk about a lack of talent
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: around you, they had nothing? Yea, Darnell Mooney is their
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: best receiver. Like you give him a couple of receivers
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: and maybe you know, I don't know an offensive line
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: that might be able to, you know, prevent him from
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: run for his life on every play. Yeah. I agree
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: with everything you said, and it's even more skewed because
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: we saw Justin Fields here plays and I'm trying, no,
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: You're still right though, but like we mean, we saw
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: him do it, you know against I mean, I respect
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: for the people we want to talk about, you know,
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: like they scored a lot of points in some of
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: those games they lost. You know, we want to talk
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: about Patrick Mahomes like in college, and I'm not saying
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: that fifties the same as twenty five or thirty whatever,
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: but in the pros that's kind of yeah, that that
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: there's a correlation. He got better, he did, but he
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: got better once they opened up the run packet. Yeah,
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: like that once they started using the design quarterback runs.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: He got better the two guys in the draft, Brice
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: Young and c J. Stroud. Those guys are natural throwers.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: Those guys are pocket passers. And now I would worry
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: about Young. He's he's small and he's thin, but he's
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: like six feet six one. He's not. He's small. It's small,
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: but it's not Kyler Murray like he's not it's Bailey Zappy. Yeah,
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: but he's obviously way more talented. I don't know, man,
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: I'm not sold on Bryce Young. I think if you
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: watch that game against Case stated, I'm sold say that
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: about Mac Jones too, but not not. Mac's dropping dimes
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: to DeVante Smith and right, like Bryce Young that that
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: Alabama offense is skill players this year where they had
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: a down year for skill players, and he's still put
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: up insane numbers. He's he's a talented I'm sold on
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: his ability. I just I'm a little worried that he's
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: kind of small. Yeah, I'm worried at one or two,
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: you know, I mean, this is that's where you're gonna
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: have to take him, and there's gonna be a little
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: bit of a question. I love c J. Strout too.
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: I mean, you go toe to toe with the Georgia
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: defense like that in a in a big time Bowl game.
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: That's that takes some metal. Yeah, I know he's got
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: Marvin Harrison juniors. Why don't I know? But I would
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: take Stroud over. I would's close. I would take Stroud.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: I think a lot of people would. Yeah. Yeah, Uh,
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: let's go and then maybe Lad McCaffrey there, mcconky will
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: still be around the third one. Let me tell you something,
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: He's gonna be good. It's gonna be good. I'm telling
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: you right now. When I when I get my clause
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: into somebody, I'm usually right. No one, No one uncovers
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: the walk on there was. There was the day we
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: had the last locker room day. There were some people
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: wondering where Fred was. More than one person asked me,
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: when the boys on their way and give him a
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: word of encouragement after a tough season. Yeah, bank, Matt, Patricia,
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: you didn't get the kersha out of boys. Uh, let's
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: go to Chris with a t I A n Hey, Christian, Hey,
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: I just want to make sure you guys, you know,
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: send that hot around so we can all sign it.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: Not even a way to send the money for the scratch.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: I agree. I agree, Christian, I agree, it's not your fault.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: It's not your fault something scratch. Yeah, yeah, I totally agree.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: Give him a little something for the effort. Yeah. I
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: just want to take you guys against this year. I
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: was really negative Tuesday obviously, but um, the additions to
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: to the to the staff and everybody's fred of been great.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: Evans been awesome, um tomorrow and Alex has been great
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: in the room too, so and it's it's really been
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: good and the past in the past. I just want
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: to say the Logan Manking episode was awesome. Is That
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: story about sprinting with Matt Light was stemical. So I
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: encourage anybody to go listen to that. It was so worthless. Yeah.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: I mean, do you guys have done what thirty six
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: of them or something like that? It is that right, Yeah,
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: thirty six I haven't. I haven't done anywhere neither. Yeah,
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: thirty six of these already, So I mean you're going
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: on a long trip or whatever. Um, this is great content. Yeah.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: And I don't know what Devin mccordy's going to decide,
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: but I laid the ground work for one with him
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: last week in the locker room on Monday. He's still
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: not the past yet, you know. No, That's why I said,
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: I don't. I don't know what he's going to decide.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: But that's why Fred went in the locker room is
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: just to you retire, you retire, you're going you Yeah. So,
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: And that was a question I had for you guys. Um,
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: I'll leave you with this. Do you guys see obviously
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: looks like Devin and Slater are going to retire. Um
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: do you see them following the stuff to Electry Brown
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: and you're on Mayo to to potentially be on this
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: coaching staff at some point. I think I think if
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: mccy Okay, thanks Chris, I think if mccordy retired going
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: into broadcasting, Yeah, I think he's got he's gonna have options.
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: Look what his brothers doing. Yeah, yeah, I would do
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: a show together. I would say, ye, Slater, that could
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: be so Jack Easter be right. Yeah, That's what I
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: was thinking, was Slater is like I think he's still
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: doing and actually, guy because the coaching aspect, obviously, we
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: know about the hours and what they have to give up,
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: and he's got a family and I don't know if
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: he wants to necessarily do that. But you know, I
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: don't think you need to put in the same amount
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: of hours as a team chaplain as you have to
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: do as a special team's coach. Right, So still work, Yeah,
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: still doing the rara and still you know, break it
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: down in the locker room and uh, you know, do
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: all the addressing the team and stuff like that that
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: he does sometimes when Bill asked him to. I don't
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: I don't rule it out. Who do you see sepping
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: up as leader? If if both those guys were to retire,
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: who are guys that you think would be looked to
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: to be leaders going forward? Jimmy Andrews comes back because
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: he got the hell beat out of him, He's still
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: the leader. I think Bentley um quia seven times three times. Yeah,
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: I think Bentley definitely. I think I mean Meyers seems
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: to be so happy, go lucky, quiet, But maybe he
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: could step up if they're going to keep him and
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: he could be a leader. Um, you know, maybe dugger.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: You know. I think Dietrich Wise captain this year. He's
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: got good energy, um quarterback anyone he should be Oh
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: he's I mean he's a captain. Now I'm trying to
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: think of guys that aren't captains. Yeah, yeah, yeah, just
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: a new I think, a new somebody who's got that
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: kind of leadership trait. Maybe you guys talk to dougger
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: Um obviously a lot more than I do. UM does
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: he have Is he quiet? I don't know. I mean
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: a little bit. He's starting to a little bit more now,
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: but he doesn't come off to me as like I
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: would say. I mean, Judean's a little bit of a
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: you know, silly, but he's got more of a present,
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: very quiet another very quiet guys. See, I haven't really
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: been in the locker room a whole lot. I mean,
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: obviously we had a couple of years when we weren't
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: allowed in UM, but even this year, I haven't been
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: in UM at all. So I don't really know these
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: guys personalities. And Madre is thinking of talent, I think
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: a great player, but super shy. I think you feel
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: like he got better, like he just seemed like he
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: was a little more just comfortable up there when he
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: quick question for Evan, any chance that the Patriots bring
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: back the full back? Yeah? Yeah, I think so. I
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: think the the to me, the biggest area they missed
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: a full back in with short yardage, you know, third
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: and one year in shotgun. It just drove me nuts. Yeah,
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: that would be largely depending on what they do with
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: their offense, right, but yeah, I think I think there's
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: a chance that they bring back a full back, and
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: I think that would help them in short yardage, goal line.
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: They had all sorts of trouble getting the ball into
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: the end zone. Not a lot went well for the
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: Raiders this year on offense. Right, but Josh Jacobs had
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: the best year of his career by father, Yeah, because
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: I didn't I didn't say it was that. I just said,
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: but Devlin gave a shout out to yak yeah for
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: for the work he was doing. Mentioned use check. I
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: mean Jacob's had like fifteen hundred yards, right yeah, yeah,
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: he was led the league. Yeah yeah, all right, let's
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: get back, excuse me to the phone. Gerard Mayo's got
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: a head coaching interview Calm can Denver, Carolina Panthers. Carolina
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: requested permission to interview Patriots inside linebackers coach. More so,
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: as I said before, now that would get you the compensation, yea.
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: But now I'm like, okay, Girarde, like why are you
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: a head coach candidate, you know, like and don't talk
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: to me about platinum. I don't know why we have
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: to we have to thank Mac Patricia, but we have
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: to rip. I just want to know. I just want
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: to know, like and his words, what did he do? Yeah, well,
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: everybody's got questions, I think in interviewed, but I um, yeah,
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: I mean he's been around for a while. James is
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: in Georgia. What's up, James? Hey, that's how you're doing good.
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: I just want to thank you, guys, M Paul to
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: all the good words you put in for Jacobe. Oh.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: I like you. You guys understand that I listened to
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: the show. It's just doing warm information that you've gone.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: I say, you guys are an informatively entertaining clue. I
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: like the new attention. You guys are great. I appreciate
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: all the supports begin Jacobe Miners. Is this mister Meyers?
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: We hope that yes? Oh, hey, how are you doing
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: all right? Yeah? And James, I do you know? Evan
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: and I had a chance to talk to Jacoby for
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: a second on Monday, and I did tell him I said, hey,
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: make sure you say hey to your dad because quite frankly,
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: We don't have a lot of parents that listen to
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: our show and understand what we're doing. And you have
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: right from the first time that you listen to us,
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: and we do appreciate that support. And we wish I
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: hope Jacobe's back. We all hope you hope he's back.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: We all do um. But I wish him a lot
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: of luck because he deserves it. He's worked hard to
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: get where he is and he deserves to get rewarded
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: for that. He sure has. He's gonna get that bad gay.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: I emailed you, mister Marris, if you want to, I
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: got a bunch of game days with that Jacobe on
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: the cover. You wan't gonna send them to you. Just
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: let me know. I gonna tell you everything. You guys
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: got I taped because you know, as you know, when
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: I'm at the game, all I do with video tape
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: every time he goes out, So listen, I would be
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: too man understand right, Yeah, I understand what those parents
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: in Buffalo went through because whenever Kobe went into Blue Tent,
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: it kind of changed the whole field of watching the
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: game because now my attention is on the tent, I hear,
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: but but on a good note. I appreciate you guys,
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: and we appreciate the support and just once say happy
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: New Year's and you know, let's keep it coming. Well,
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: thank you, hope to see you next year. Calling all right,
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: thank you James, mister Myers. Great, all right, thank you.
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: That's awesome. Like, and I can't even express how much
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: I appreciate that, like as a show. Now I'm not
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: talking individually, I'm talking as a show to have you know,
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: and we we get followed by a lot of parents
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: on Twitter, and they like stuff that we do a lot,
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: and you sort of, you know, understand that because you
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: know you're write something like we talk about the good
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: and the bad on this show. We don't just tell
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: you how everything is great. We've talked a lot about
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: how we love Jacoby Myers, but we think they need
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: a number one receiver. Yeah, and there's the guy's father
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: sitting there appreciating the support. You know, he could sit
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: there and say, well, I don't they think my son's
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: worthy of you know, he could absolutely do it that way.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: So what I would do if it was my son,
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: you know, I mean I wouldn't be calling into the
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: show or anything and ripping anybody and God bless the show.
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: If you did like that would be like you know,
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: like like maybe a certain former quarterbacks father would do. Um,
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: that would be Tom Brady's father in case I didn't know,
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: But I just I really appreciate what kind of support that. Well.
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: But what did Jakoby say to you guys? Because I
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: was on the outskirts of it, and I heard him
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: being like, my dad, he's always just like laughing at
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: he lasted you guys. He loves the show and uh,
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: and Evan said something like, you know, I just started
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: doing the show. I go, Yeah, he's the excess those guys,
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: and Jacoby goes everybody's got to know their role. Everybody
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: right here, job, I said, yeah, he's breaking down film
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: with a funny guys. Yeah, yeah, yeah he um. Jacoby
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: is arguably one of the better homegrown wide receiver talents
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: they've had of the Belichick here, just from a statistical perspective.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: You know, obviously you know Gronk and and Edelman and
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: Dion branch Or in that category, but Jacobe Meyers right
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: there with all of them in terms of production in
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: his time with the Patriots, and Udfa should have gotten drafted.
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: I'm not just saying that just because he's a Patriot,
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: he should have gotten drafted, and he went undrafted and
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: just fit in like a glove here instantly. Yeah, I
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: just feel they ought to pay him. I I just
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: want him to get paid. I'd love if it was here, right,
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: But I love the player more than I care about
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: him being payriot. I just feel a special can I
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: with him because it's when I started here and the
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: kind of like the look on his face is an
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: undrafted free agent was kind of the look I had
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: on like, WHOA, what is going on here? So I
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: think you just always feel like, you know, a connection
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: with those kind of guys. So I he's so consistent,
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: it's consistent, tough catches, and I remember when he hadn't
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: had a touchdown and now you know, now he's got
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: a few. Um it just yeah, just a great guy.
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: And I like, like I said, I just want the
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: best for him, and if it's it'd be great if
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: it was here, And I'd love to continue to, you know,
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: up grow this relationship with him. But if it is,
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: you know, you've made like a great imprint on an
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: organization and I hate to bring it up. Sorry, mister Myers.
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: But the play in Vegas happens, and yeah, that's not
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: his legacy, that's right, Like, you know, he's not what
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: he's even talking about that well he did that, we
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: get right, because he's just made such a positive imprint
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: on the field off the field here in New England
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: that players, you know, mistakes happen, you know, things happen,
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: and that doesn't have that's not his legacy. It's also
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: how you handle it too, right. Yeah. But and I
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: hear what mister Myers is talking about. When you know
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: you're watching your kid playing and he gets hurt, Oh,
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: it's all of a sudden, like it sucks the joy
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: out and all you care about is your kid. Yeah,
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: you know. And that was what Jr. Kobe also said,
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: kind of in his little wrap up around his locker,
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: was just I've been kind of hurt all year and
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: I just can't wait to get away and get healthy. Finally,
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: it was it was a tough year for him to
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: battle through, not just physically, but as you know, as
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: Paul mentioned, emotionally getting over all that. And he battled,
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: he did, he did, he came back. I mean, look
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: at the touchdown against Buffalo. I mean he's you know,
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: right there at the end, big game coming through. I
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: mean we you know, we we harass a lot of
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: these guys about this is a huge moment. This is
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: a third down. You had a false start, you know,
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: for for a guy like him, it's it's the other
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: side when when it was on the line, he always
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: got what you need those toes down. Let's go to
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: Courtney in New Jersey. What's up Courtney? Hey, guys, thanks
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: for taking my call. Um just wanted to talk about, um,
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: the the idea of maybe a QB competition going into
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: the next year. You know, what are your what are
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: the chances you could see that potentially happening, whether that
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: maybe would that be which you know had the good
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: two moments um or maybe even bringing in, you know,
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: someone else in the free agent marketing to compete to
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: just kind of continue to spark maybe maybe a better
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: offense money into the offseason. I'm going into the new season. Yeah,
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: what will be the first indication we will get to say, okay,
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: it is it is a quarterback competition? Quick zappy reps
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: and training camp like well, I think if they signed somebody,
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: I don't I don't think no, I don't. I don't
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: think there'll be a legit competition if it's just so
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: just going going off of what we had in twenty
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: twenty one with with Cam Ye Cam would That was
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: weird though, that was Cam would lead off every single period,
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: so that gave the illusion that he was the starter
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: because he was the first guy. But then Mac would
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: go like twenty straight plays right, right, right, And that's
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: what Cam did that thing with his father after he
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: was released by the Patriots, and that's what he said.
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: They've used me as an illusion because I let off
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: every drill, but if you counted reps, Mac was out
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: wrapping me like three to one. And if they really
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: want to give Zappy a look in training camp, that's
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: that's how you would know. Yeah, yeah, if you can't
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: try my mind. If I asked the second question, um yeah,
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: you know how we always and I've been following days
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: for years. I'm I actually played on the played on
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: the cliff at Texas text but um, but but it
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: always sh is like with the pages. It seems like
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: the right thing to do is always in front of us.
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: And then Bill always finds, Yeah, he says, listen to
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: what he does? You know, friend. We always get that
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: from you. Um, Courtney, you didn't play defense at Texas Tech,
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: did you? Everybody blames it all on you. Sorry, but no, man,
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: that's a whole another story. But the question really is
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: that in terms of Bill O'Brien and Cliff, you know,
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: those are very obvious choices in their own regard. What
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: is a very likelihood that something happens with these guys
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: are whether they're not available or they go somewhere else.
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: And now we're really like, holy crap, like, you know,
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: what are our real options? Thought? That's what I worry about.
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: If you if you drag your feet to right, it's
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: a say with me, offensive assistant. Like that's what they
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: selling is some guy is going to come in and
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: be the end. Oh this is the guy and you
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: feel good, you know his offense, but he's not getting
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: the title. It's a shell game. Yeah, this guy's over here.
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: You also have to it's also not even just O'Brien
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: or Kingsbury, because those guys are gonna want to bring
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: their own guys with them too. And what are those
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: guys now, you know have a job already, right, right,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: so I think you need three guys, right, So if
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: you start to talk about okay O'Brien, he's probably okay.
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: Maybe he's okay with Troy staying as the wide receivers
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: coach or whatever, but he's probably gonna want his own
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: old line coach and his own tight ends coach. And
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: like you, you have your own staff, right, and in
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: order to put your own staff together, you need that.
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: That's a time crunch too, which which is easier if
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: you pull that Patrician and put him back as the advisor,
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: and then you kind of already have those two. Two
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: of those jobs open. The questions just receiver running back,
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: how you manage those? Hey, Courtney, thanks for calling. And
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: if Kingsbury does end up being the guy, let let
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: Kiff Cliff know. He needs to let us know it's
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: not going to be I don't think he's going to
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: be a source. He didn't. He didn't like. I know.
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: I know you're fair you here, Evan, but you'll find
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: out over time. No matter what the subject is, there's
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: somebody listening that's an expert. Like we could be talking
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: about rocket science right now and somebody from NASA will call.
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: This is probably a good time, Patricia, This is probably
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: a good time. To break it to Evan too. He's
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: not going to enjoy our off season shows as much
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: as he's gonna go nuts. He's gonna go So we talk.
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: We tend for the push up contest, right, we tend
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: to get a rope off topic. I think would be
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: a fair way to put it quite easily in the
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: off season. I know that you just want to let's
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: get back to the Do you see the drag brow here?
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: It's not where it's the proper space, see, I know,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: but we're talking about movies running the running the drag
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: out against zone. Come on, say, last year we did
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: three shows on soap on a rope. I mean that
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: was different thing. You know. Don't get it started. We're
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: gonna go down that road. We're in the off season.
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: H Brandon's in Atlanta. What's up? Brandon's in Atlanta. Hey,
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: what's up? You might get to go to the AC
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: Championship ran. Yeah, it is my first time calling it
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: into the show. You know, I usually call it the
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: free game of post game show. So it's cool to
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: you know, be a part of this one. Um. So
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: I kind of just had like a question to see
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: if like y'all were agreeing in a greens with me
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: how I'm thinking, so definitely hope that Jakobe comes back
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: because I feel like, even though he's young, I feel
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: like he's also not only a locker room guy. I
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: hope they green k B back. Davante Parker seems like jeez,
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: a um, he's close to a one, but maybe not
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: exactly your your true number one. And then of course,
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: like on Thornton don't be there so and if I'm personally,
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: we're probably gonna miss out on d hop and I
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: can live with that. But I was thinking in my
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: personal like just you know, die Hard fandom ship with
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: his team, whether it's Mac, whether it's Bailey, whether it's somebody, anybody.
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: I feel like the first thing we need to do
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: is fix the offensive line, because I don't care who
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: you are, even if you're Jaff, Josh Allen or Mahomes,
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: if you got three hundred pound linemen in your face,
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: no matter what you can do physically, it's you're a
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: set up for failure. And I don't know if it's
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: Tricia needs to be moved from that too, because I
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: know he's also the offensive line culture or whatever. But
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: I just think that that the first thing that we
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: need to do, whether it be free agency, whether it
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: be UM the draft. I think the offensive line is
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: the most important, like aspect of what we need to
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: fix in this off season. I was wondering if y'all agree.
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: I mean, it's up there. I mean, like if they
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: ended up drafted a tackle with the fifteenth or fourteenth pick, Yeah,
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: I wouldn't be shocked. I would be shocked. I wouldn't
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: be shocked Draft one, sign one. They should do both. Yeah,
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: do you I mean, do you think they'll have two
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: new tackles next year or one? I mean I assume that.
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: I think, say, right, the interior three probably the same. So,
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: I mean we're talking about the tackle spot. It's just
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: I mean, you could maybe make an argument that they
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: could bump the one you outside. I wouldn't. I like
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: the way the inside the interior three are. But I
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: agree with Evan. I think they need two tackles because
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: I don't think Trent Brown is someone you can rely
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: on now. He was faded down the stretch too, was
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: not good for the last month of the season, and
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: I think that a guy that big, I think that
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: that's conditioning and that kind of stuff comes into play
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: late in the year. I just they need to draft one,
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: sign one in my opinion, and I think they should
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: be first round pick, and I think they should be
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: at the top of the tackle marketed. In free agency too,
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: there are going to be a couple of free agent tackles.
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: Mike McGlinchey is the big one that I've been focused on.
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: Orlando Brown might might not get paid by Kansas City.
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: He's an option, especially if you're going to continue to
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: be a power running team and get downhill on people. Uh,
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: I don't see why how you don't address that full on.
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: And also the way that they they're blocking system this year,
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: I mean it was terrible. You know, they get to
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage and they made no adjustments ever,
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: like they just sat there and let it happen. I
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: mean the blitz at the Bills got them in on
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: the first half like that that should have been able
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: to be picked up. Like Trent Brown is looking around
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: like blocking nobody. They got the back over there, but
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: they just let a free runner just and he's right
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: there up on the line of scrimmage. It's not like
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: it was disguised or something like that. They didn't they didn't.
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: They didn't adjust protection is that though. I think they
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: took I think they put the training wheels on it.
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: I think the coaching staff said, we're not adjusting all right,
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: But I don't know that for a fact. I tried.
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: I tried to get some information about it, and the
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: couple of people that I asked in the locker room
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: didn't even want to touch it, which tells me where
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: did that. I'm sorry, Brandon, go ahead, no one last thing,
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: and I agree with everything ever said and all TV say,
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: But another thing, I don't care who comes in and
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: your McGlinchey, Orlando Brown, please somebody work on the discipline
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: and stopped jumping off side, stopped moving penalty. Yeah, they
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: had a lot of those this year when you don't
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: trust your technique and you don't like you jump right
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: like you're you're trying to cheat. I mean, Trump Brown
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: all year long, I think actually could have gotten I
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: think that's exactly what Trump Brown was doing all year.
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: You got a waitin a lot, but I think he
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: felt like he had a chime snapped during the game
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: even here. Thanks Brandon, did Trump Brown just I mean head,
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: did you guys see this this week? And I forget
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: this is like I just like CTE, Like someone wrote
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: something anonymously about what Evan alluded to with the change
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: in the blocking schemes, and if they had the same
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: blocking scheams just last year, they wouldn't have allowed half
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: as many sacks. Sound sounds like something Bdard would say
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: could have been because him and I are the only
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: ones that talk about blocking games are out here. So
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: but but I thought he it might have been in Bernardi.
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: He might have was quoting an anonymous um, probably David
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: Andrews and an anonymous player maybe lamenting the change. And
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: that's why I say, like, and it could be four Like,
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: I think you're gonna need an offensive coordinator, a quarterbacks coach,
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: and an offensive line coach, and you're probably gonna need
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: a tight ends coach too, because I think Nick Kayley
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: is going to go on. So to Evan's point, if
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: you want an offensive coordinator, you're probably gonna want to
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: give that guy a little latitude to bring in some
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: of the guys to replace. Those are important jobs. Yeah,
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: you know, and the offensive line situation, I don't know
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: his Billy Yates an offensive line coach, Like is he
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: good enough to be and I'm not telling you he's not.
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: I'm just asking. I just and I would say too,
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: like and when I we were in Vegas, I was
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: right near Karen Brisillo with the Raiders now and and
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: I don't I don't want to say this because I've
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: never been really near when Patricia was coach, coaching the
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: offensive line here or anything like that. But even with
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: some of the footage from Dante last week that they
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: were showing on the sidelines of just how much those
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: guys know and how connected into the offense they are
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: and they know exactly what has to happen. I mean,
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: just the way he would lay into guys, I mean,
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: not even like yelling at them, just giving them coaching points.
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: It gave me an appreciation for what a job that
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: is as an offensive line coach, and how just how
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: connected it is to everything. It's not just like teaching
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: guys how to block. It's about the whole offene. And
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: I make fun of Mike Lombardi a lot because of
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: his boboism, but he said that before the season, like
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: that's why he didn't think that Patricia was really a
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: legitimate candidate to call plays. He said, you can't do
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: both yeah, you can't be with your offensive line after
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: every series going over what went right and what went
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: wrong and the adjustments that are going to be and
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: be worrying about talking to your quarterback and call and play.
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: And what ended up happening was that David Andrews and
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: actually James Ferns from what I've heard, had to take
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: on a really big role on the sideline this year
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: of basically running the offensive line huddle with Billy Yates.
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: And I think that you also look at quarterback when
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: it comes to protection is all about problem solving, right,
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: It's just okay, you know they're showing me this look,
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: we're gonna slide over here, We're gonna have the back
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: pick this guy up, and then I'm gonna change this
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: route so that I have somebody to get the ball to.
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: And if the quarterback can't get to the line of
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: scrimmage and problem solved the equation, then he's screwed. And
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: so many times this year they just had guys running
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: scott free to the quarterback on blitz is because they
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: get to the line of scrimmage. He'd point out the
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: mic that they called in the huddle was the mic,
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: and then they snapped the ball and the line is
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: moving in the wrong direction. Is Mac or how much
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: of it is? I just can't blame it on Mac
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: because it's another one of those things that everybody told
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: me was a strength of his at Alabama and his
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: rookie season, that he was cerebral, that he understood these
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: types of things, that he understood protections, and he understood
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: how to get everybody blocked. And then all of a sudden,
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: this year it's terrible, And so how did that? Just?
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: You don't your brain doesn't just stop working like CT
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: Let's get to some emails. We're gonna do the picks
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: pretty soon. But Dominic writes in says, I've heard a
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: lot about how the offense changed from last year to
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: this year to be more shotgun heavy and incorporates zone
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: runs versus McDaniel's offense, which was more play action. I
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: just centered, gap run focused. Why do you all think
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: we made this change? What was Belichick trying to accomplish
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: with the switch? I don't know. I don't know simplifying it,
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: but there was easier ways to do it. They were
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: trying to streamline it, trying to play faster, try to
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: simplify it so that guy's rookies and younger players and
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: newer acquisitions like a tayclon Thornton, for example, could defensive
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: minded coaches could pick it up quicker, and it obviously
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: just didn't work. They just didn't have an offense. I mean,
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: it was just I think part of it was the coaches.
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: I mean, like part of me just feels like you
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: didn't have an offensive coordinator. Your offense didn't look coordinated
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: in any sense of the word. I mean it's like
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: sounds oversimplified, but that's really like what it comes down to.
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: They just were never on the same page in Summerville.
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: Longtime listener started listening in OH seven question, I've seen
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: Evans breakdowns of Mac undercenter for a shotgun and a
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: running narrative now is that they didn't put Mac in
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: a position to succeed, and we're stupid to not put
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: him under center more. I could swear during the offseason
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: a big talking point was Mac wanted more shotgun and
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: wasn't comfortable under center? Am I misremembering this? If that
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: is actually what happened, shouldn't we be giving Mac a
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: larger share of the blame on this topic? Since the
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: coaches would have given him what he wanted. Well, every
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: time we talked to Mac about this, he told us
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: that he ran the wing tea in high school, so
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: he was under center a lot in high school, even
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: though he wasn't under center a lot at Alabama. I
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: think there's some truth to it. You know, a lot
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: of quarterbacks that come up now are nobody in college
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: runs under center. Okay, like no, none of these teams
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: are under center. They're all in shotgun. And maybe there
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: is some truth to that. But if you're going to
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: be a shotgun team, then you have to find ways
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: to then manipulate defense like play action from under center does,
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: but from the shotgun. And that's really, to me, the
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: biggest X and O's thing that they missed the mark
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: on this year was that was that they were not
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: able to be a team that scheme guys open from shotgun.
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: So everything turned into we're just going to hope that
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: DeVante Parker wins on the outside and Mac Jones that
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: makes a great throw, and we moved the football, and
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: they just didn't have the personnel that was good enough
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: to execute that kind of offense. Like if you look
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: at them from miss splits wise, like under center, play
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: action motion. They're the Cincinnati Bengals. They have play action motion.
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: How much they're under center is exactly what the Bengals do.
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: Bengals have better players than you on offense, so they
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: do it better than you do. And you're dead last
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: in a lot of offensive categories because you were trying
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: to be this gun off spread system with lesser talent
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: and it didn't work out. L from Wisconsin. So everyone
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: seems to be thinking that Kern's report means we're getting
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: a new OC. I didn't read it the same way.
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: In fact, I don't think the report in any way
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: says that Patricia won't be the OC. It says that
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: changes will be made. Take away the O line responsibility.
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: That's a change. Change quarterback change quarterback who the eight
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: head coach clue doesn't like. That's a change, and I'll
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: continue to be worried until a change is actually announced. Finally,
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: question for Fred, So he's saying that change could be anything,
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: not necessarily OC. Finally, question for Fred, do you think
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: we should fudge the rules and induct Patricia to the
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: Patriots Hall of Fame? Right now? Ha ha ha, Well
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: we should have. They have like the player and they
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: and they have a contributed section. We should have like
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: a little thank you section, right, It's just like in
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: the corner. I'd rather have you say thank you and
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: please go back to three shows. If Wednesday doesn't work,
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: maybe Monday or Friday. Friday's out of the question. Uh
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: Spe says, it's so cool that mister Myers called in.
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: How cool is that they have that connection to a
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: player we all genuinely like and appreciate. Anyway, you guys
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: touched on the nepotism issue regarding Steve earlier but seemed
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: to disagree, and then we're like, oh, we love your
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: mister Meyers. Do I think that's at work? What was that?
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: Was that nepotism? I mean, of course it's everywhere in society.
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: It happens in every industry and everything that there is,
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: like I don't like, I like, and it's annoying and
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: you don't have to like it, but it is a
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: way of life. It is um Oka and Tampa says,
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: this question is for you, Fred. Earlier in the show,
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: you were rattling off questions that you would ask Mayo,
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: which got me thinking, what interview questions did you ask
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: deuson Evan and first impressions of them. Thanks guys for
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: all you do before. Yeah, but I well, I get
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: just right into the radio show. Yeah. I wasn't even
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: I hired, but Duce hired Evan. It's Paul, it's Paul Parilla.
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: Were right here, And when we had him in, we
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: said we're gonna go down to the show. I wanted
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: to see what he got, how we handled the show. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: that was fun. That was fun. I was psyched myself up.
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: And uh, but I mean we knew Evan. I mean,
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: Evan was well it's already. That's part of it too,
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: is I did not know Mike at all. I had
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: never met Mike, and we knew Evan because Evan's been
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: covering the Patriots for years. He's been around. You know,
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: I didn't know him as well as I do now.
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: But we've known him how long, like ten years? Maybe
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: not that long. I go, I go back ten years
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: with you, Yeah, I think, yeah, yeah, yes, I still
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: was never one of those bloggers go back to the
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: g We had good we had good candidates like we
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: did that. We had like a handful and yeah, we
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: had we had a good turnout for that job for
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: Evan's job. Sure, yeah, absolutely, thanks guys. That was not
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: That was not neotism. It was funny those I was like,
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: I think it's weird when I came in here on
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: the radio show and I like would tell my mom
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: and my dad and like I got in an interview
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: and now everyone like I knew all my family was
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: listening to how I did on the show. But the
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: funny part was we got off the year and Paul
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: Paul just turns music, So what happened sophomore year? And
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: I'm like it took me a second of process and
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: then I realized, like my stats and hockey, I only
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: played I think like ten games my sophomore year that
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: would show up on Hockey D I get on. I
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: did a little research. He threw me off for a second.
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: Then I was like, I blame I blame my ex girlfriend.
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, that's usually how goes. Like I like
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: that guy, but I was kind of star start. I
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: mean that thing in this played another clip of that
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: her singing what that's a Tom Brady song? Wow? That
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: was the Ironically he came to work here. He hated Brady. Well,
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: you know he's the creator of the twenty eight three teacher. Yes,
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: oh he knows that. He didn know. I sing one
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: more call and we're going to get to the picks
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: for the playoffs. Andrew's in LA. What's up, Andrew? What's up? Boys?
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: Is what I gotta say. Tommy, Yes, Tommy and Lynn
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: right there you go, there you go. I gotta do
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: his podcast coming up? Oh you do? Yeah? I hope
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: you listening to that. At one point, but then like
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: while I was on the line, I added like three
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: things to my notes. So to the previous guy that
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: said that there was no reference to Patricia being gone,
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: Felger has sources apparently in the building, and I'm assuming
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: it's Paul. It's not me. Yeah, it's definitely not me.
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: And I don't think Patricia's going anywhere. So even if
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: it was me, that wouldn't be my don could be
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: back upstairs. I've heard people saying this rumor said he's
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: in hot, he's in demand in several places, but nothing.
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: I'm sorry, who's that now, Patricia? He's not in demand, please,
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: I'm just telling you know. I mean, maybe we should
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: we should thank him for taking one of those jobs.
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: Maybe he does deserve all right, all right. But one
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: other thing. So I heard the same thing as you,
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: Paul on the Mother's Ship this week, that that blocking
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: scheme was so they had kept the old scheme. That
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: must then Evan must be right. That must be a baddism. Yeah,
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: because they loved them something. And he's the only one
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: that would talk offensive line. Oh yeah, yeah, of course,
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: the big boy. Um yeah, they would have half the
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: penalties if they had their former blocking scheme. So I
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: heard that too. But um, there is an ol coach available.
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: He's from the Arizona Cardinals. He was fired this year
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: for an incident in Mexico. No, this is interesting. Did
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: you hear about this? I know, Well the guy got
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: fired Yeah yeah, and evidently was mistaken identity. It wasn't him.
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: Oh really, that's that's the worst so our grievance. I
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: don't I don't know. You know, who knows what's true.
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: There's a lot of speculation going on. But that's the
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: word right now is that guy is fighting to clear
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: his name and it wasn't him. Oh wow. And they're
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: probably still gonna be paying him. Huh. Andrew, good one,
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: Thank you, Mike, Mike, just take it to take the
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: next step there sneaky negative, Yeah, right, sneak. I mean,
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: let's face it, we're all thinking that with a cliff, right,
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: we don't want to do another one of those. We're
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: gonna be the first NFL team that has coaches that
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: you don't have to pay everybody. All the other teams
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: are paying. I'm waiting for them to hire one coach
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: that we have to pay. It's offensive assistant or something
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: like that, just so that it doesn't offset the Language
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: and his Cardinals contract. Yeah, all right, blocking that time
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: of the week, we finished the regular season, so Paul,
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: let us know how that ended up. Okay, So another
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: solid week to end it all, Freddie and Paul eleven
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: and five, Evan and Mike ten and six. No, that's
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: solid week to finish it out. And um, and that's
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: a tricky week to pick by the way, that week eighteen.
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: So those are good records with the spread. We weren't
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: quite as good Evan nine and seven and the rest
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: of US seven and nine. Yeah, so um and not
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: surprisingly I had a losing record the last two weeks.
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: I knew it was coming, but overall I am one
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: seventy five ninety four and two. Mike drops two games
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: back to one seventy three, ninety six and two, Fred
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: one sixty five, one oh four and two. Evan was
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: one thirteen, sixty one and one, which is basically tied
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: with me in terms of winning percentage. So good job,
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: you kept pacing. Good job, But what's sixty nine winning percentage?
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: Decimal point though? Like sixty nine? Yeah, but I didn't
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: figure this out. Yeah, but who's better? He said, Basically,
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: I'll check, Well, we're both six forty nine. I mean,
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: I'll look, I'll look, I'll look that up in a
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: sty availability is he wins. Yeah, I picked the whole season.
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: But anyway, we have to go with the spread. Any
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: we don't need any technicality, doesn't skip the tough weeks
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: with the spread. No technicalities needed, one fifty two, one,
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: fifteen and four. Just a phenomenal record by me. Thank
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: you you do. You had an email of that wrote
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: in about how much money you would have actually won.
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: It's not as much as you thought. Let's go, How
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: did you know how much I would have put on
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: the games? Like he just speculated? Like, if you you know,
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: I can go to the email at some point. But yeah,
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: I'm I'm curious because I because you know me, I
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: don't do too good with math. It's the same guy
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: that um uh and analyze the Heart Wilson index. Oh
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: and you figured out what the key factors were. Yeah,
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: I got into his math. Yeah, he's a math guy
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: like I'll get to that. Nancy Wilson and Heart. It's
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: the Wilson Hearts. Um So with the spread one fifty two,
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: one fifteen and four for Paul one thirty three, one
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: thirty four and four for Mike one nineteen, one forty
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: eight and four for Fred and Evan eighty nine, eighty
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: three and three. Very solid, makeing munch job. So that's
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: how we finished, all right. So now we move to
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: the playoffs and we continue picking right through the Super Bowl.
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: So we start with Saturday two games, the first ones
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: at four thirty on Fox. Case anyone needs to know
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: that the nine and eight Seahawks are at the thirteen
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: and four forty nine Ers Noiners by nine and a half,
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: nine and a half. All right, I'm up playoffs picks.
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: Let's go. I'm gonna take San Francisco to win. I'm
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: gonna take those points though I think it's close. It's
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: a division game, even though I know what's at stake here.
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna take sanfran to win. Though. Yeah, I'm with
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: Mike on this. It's weird when you play divisional opponent
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: again in the playoffs, third time in a season. So
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: I think the Hawks keep it close by. I take
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: the forty nine Ers in the game. Yeah, I am
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: gonna take San Francisco both ways. I think that they
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: all as Matt Smith would say, they all up. Do
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: you overmatch Seahawks? Yeah, even with a third string quarterback.
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: Paul's correct. The pick here is forty nine Ers both ways.
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: So uh, Now we go to eight, eight fifteen on NBA. Uh,
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: the ten and seven Chargers are at the nine and
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: eight Jaguars. Uh. This is your no, No, this is
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: a road favorite. The lack by two and a half.
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: Oh so, a couple of new kids on the block.
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: Welcome to the playoffs, justin Herbert kids. Yeah, and Trevor Lawrence.
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: You know what I'm gonna I think Jacksonville is gonna
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: fight hard, but I'm gonna take the Chargers on the road.
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: I'll lay those points. I think they went by field goal.
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: I'm taking the Chargers both ways. I think they they
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: cruise in this way when chargers both ways. Yeah, um yeah.
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: I'm a little worried about the recklessness that my boy
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: Brandon's Daley showed. But I think that they may have
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: dodged a bullet. And I think these guys are gonna
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: play and I'm not anticipating Jacksonville being quite ready for
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: the moment. I don't think they looked like they were
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: quite ready for the moment last Saturday night. Um, that's
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: a team on the rise. Though they have some good players.
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: I'm with the boys. I'm gonna take the lack both ways.
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: I think the debutante ball continues, and I think that
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: the Jaguars win this game at home. I think Doug
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: Peterson has a little bit of a coaching advantage in
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: this game. In a big game, h and I helpe
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: and he helps his quarterback through it. So I'm I'm
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: sticking with Trevor Lawrence and I think the Jaguars advance.
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: I have a lot of belief in Trevor Lawrence. I
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: will say that this is Al Michael's by the way
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: on Saturday night on NBC. Who really? Oh wow? How
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: does that work? Sure? Now we moved to Sunday three games.
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: The first one is on CBS. The nine and eight
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: Dolphins are at the thirteen and three Bills. Dolphins obviously
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: without two UH bills by thirteen, I'm gonna lay all
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: of them. I'm gonna take the Bills. I will lay thirteen.
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: My question is is it worse? Is it worse than
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: it was for the Patriots last year at thirty point loss? Um?
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: But I think it'll be more than thirteen. Everybody didn't
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: want to see the Patriots in the playoffs, and now
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: you get Skyler Thompson going into Buffalo to lose by thirty.
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: You're welcome, all right, You're welcome. Bills both ways. You
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: have the bills both ways, Um, Skyler Thompson. Yeah, I'm
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: gonna take the Bills both I don't like laying thirteen
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: points in playoff games, but I will do it because
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: of Yeah, I'm gonna do the same thing Bills in
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: the Skylar Thompson led Dolphins would have the same chance
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: by Bills both ways. UM. Four thirty on Fox, the nine,
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: seven and one Giants are at the thirteen and four Vikings.
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: Vikings by three at home, so it's pick them. I mean,
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna pick an upset here.
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna pick the Giants. Um, I just feel like
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: that would be a fitting cap for Vikings kind of
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: being up and down all year and then then they
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: finally get in the playoffs and they just lose to
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: a six seed. I'm gonna te the Giants. I'm gonna deuce.
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: I would have had the exact same thought, like, this
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: Vikings team has been fraudulent all year, and I feel
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: like they get into the playoffs and this is when
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: it finally they the appropriate ending is losing to Daniel
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: Jones at home. Yes, I think we all share a brain.
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: I feel exactly like you can't just win every close game.
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: They're gonna get a close game in the players and
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: they're gonna lose. I got the Giants and I don't
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: think much of the Giants. Wow, my feeling here, Uh
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: is Vikings win this game. So I'm I'm picking up
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: We all know you have a feel for the league. Yeah,
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: I'm picking the Vikings to win, and I'm, you know,
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: fairly certain of it. So all right, eight fifteen once
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: again on anbry Sure, uh is this al Michaels not
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: al Michaels this time. That's why he got the other one. Yeah. Uh,
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: the ten and seven Ravens are at the twelve and
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: four Bengals. How many Bengals by eight and a half
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: and a half. I'm not gonna like my picks this week.
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you that right now. Well, I'm definitely
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: picking the Bengals to win. Just a question of if
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: they put up enough of a fight. I don't think
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: they do. I think the Bengals are gonna start rolling.
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: I'll take the Bengals and lay the points. Yeah, I'm
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: taking the Bengals both ways. Joe Burrow saying that their
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: championship windows his entire career is the best mic drop
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: we've hired all year. To pay what you say, eight
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: and a half. I'm gonna take Cincinnati both ways too.
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: I don't like laying all these points that I'm doing,
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: but I just don't really you know, no Lamar, maybe
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: not even any Huntley, Like I don't. I don't know
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: how Baltimore scores enough points. I think they'll be game,
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: you know. I think the defense will play hard, but
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: at some point they'll fall behind by a couple of scores.
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: The reality that the seasons over will set in and yeah,
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: since I think if it was ten and a half,
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: I take the points because I think, you know division
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: rival Ravens always play tough, they're never afraid. They'll hold
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: them down, but they just won't score enough to win.
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: But eight and a half, I'll take the hook. No, no, wait,
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: I'll you'll lay in the points. I heard you. What
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: does that mean? They have to win by more than
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: than eight and a half? Eight and a half, right
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: the bank? So the bank, No, don't explain. You cut
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: the Bengals, You're lay in the point, You're lay in
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: the take. You have to win by nine taking the
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: Bengals both ways. Yes, I heard your explanation. Real quick,
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: I have an update of your winning percentage with six
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: four eight five seven. I rounded that to six forty nine. Okay,
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: mine is six four nine four four. I rounded it
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: to six four nine. So paul A Bizart goes down. No,
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: all right, but I'm glad that we came to got
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: to the bottom. That's right, that's right. He was basically tied.
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: I was a little basically all right. Um, well, like
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: we're totally skipping over the Patriots. Yeah, we'll come back
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: to them in the rest of the league preseason. Uh.
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: And we go to Monday Night on ESPN eight fifteen. Uh,
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: the twelve and five Cowboys are at the eight and
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: nine Buccaneers. Here is your other road favorite, the Dallas
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: Cowboys by two and a half. All Right, I know
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: Tom Brady's never lost to the Cowboys. UM, and I'm
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: having a real hard time picking against the Bucks. But
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna I think this is the first one.
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna take Dallas, and then I'm gonna lay the points.
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: I'm taking Tom. I'm taking the Bucks in the main
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: reason why I'm taking the Bucks is because the Cowboys
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: have been playing some weird close games against bad teams lately.
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: I'm not sure that they're on for real. And I
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: just like Brady in a playoff game always. I just
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: I'll pick against him once he plays a real team. Sorry,
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: I totally agree with you. I spent the whole year, like,
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: not the whole year. I spent like the last eight
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: or ten weeks saying I don't care who Tampa plays
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: in the playoffs. I'm taking the other team like that.
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: That's just not a good team. They're not good, right,
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: And now they're up against Dallas twelve and three, twelve
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: and five, who has a good record but is playing
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: like absolute crap. How I don't know what to do, Like,
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: I'm gonna take Dallas because I think they're better. But
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna watch the game. I'm gonna roof for Tom
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: and I'm gonna root for the Bucks to win this game.
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: And I don't have any faith whatsoever in Dallas, but yeah,
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: I just think they're better. I was thinking of split
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: in the difference and taking the points, but Cowboys win.
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: But screw it, Tampa Tampa both ways. Now, if if
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: the Cowboys are one, are you know, don't even win
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: a game? Here is their coach on the hot seat? Yeah,
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: campfire the GMS. What's his face says no? But you know,
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: you never know Sean Payton? What if they get Sean Payton?
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: I mean that's different game of the weekend. Which one?
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: Which one you're most excited to see? I'm not overly
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: excited to watch any of those. Um, maybe the Jacksonville
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: Chargers one interesting because it's like two teams that haven't
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: really been there. Me too. Yeah, it stinks that Miami's
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: not gonna have to because that would have been worth
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: watching with two. Yeah, I'm sorry, Skyler. All right, Well
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: that's gonna be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: Playbook is next with John rook Um. I hope everyone
