- 2:46did not yet bear a name, and the primeval AB SU, who begat them,
- 2:51and Chaos Tiamat, the mother of them both, Their waters were
- 2:56mingled together, and no field was formed, no marsh was to be
- 3:01seen. One of the gods, none had been
- 3:05called into being, and none bore a name, and no destinies were
- 3:10ordained. Then were created the gods.
- 3:14In the midst of heaven, Lahmu and Lahmu were called into
- 3:19being. Ages increased.
- 3:23Then Ansar and Kisar were created, and over them long were
- 3:28the days. Then there came forth Anu, their
- 3:34son Ansar, and Anu, and the God Anu knew the mud whom his
- 3:43father's his begetters abounding.
- 3:45In all wisdom he was exceeding strong.
- 3:50He had no rival. Thus were established and were
- 3:55the great gods. But Tiamat and AB SU were still
- 4:00in confusion. They were troubled and in
- 4:04disorder. APRU was not diminished in
- 4:07might, and Tiamat roared. She smote, and their evil deeds.
- 4:15Their way was evil. Then Absu, the begetter of the
- 4:19great gods, cried unto Mumu his minister, and said unto him, O
- 4:25Mumu, thou minister that rejoicest my spirit, come unto
- 4:31Tiamat, let us go. So they went, and before Tiamat
- 4:35they lay down. They consulted on a plan with
- 4:38regard to the gods, their sons. Babsu opened his mouth and
- 4:43spake, and unto Tiamat the glistening 1 he addressed the
- 4:48word their way. By day I cannot rest, by night I
- 4:54cannot lie down in peace. But I will destroy their way.
- 5:01I will let there be lamentation, and let us lie down again in
- 5:08peace. When Tiamat heard these words,
- 5:13she raged and cried aloud, she grievously she uttered a curse,
- 5:20and unto ABSU she spake. What then shall we do?
- 5:26Let their way be made difficult, and let us lie down again in
- 5:31peace. Mamu answered and gave counsel
- 5:35unto ABSU, and hostile to the gods was the counsel Mamu gave
- 5:42come. Their way is strong, but thou
- 5:45shalt destroy it. Then by day shalt thou have
- 5:49rest, by night shalt thou lie down in peace.
- 5:55ABSU hearkened unto him and his countenance grew bright.
- 6:00Since he, Momu, planned evil against the gods, his sons, he
- 6:06was afraid. His knees became weak.
- 6:09They gave way beneath him because of the evil which their
- 6:14first born had planned. There they altered, they
- 6:20lamentation, they sat in sorrow. Then EA, who knoweth all that
- 6:28is, went up, and he beheld there muttering, He spake thy he hath
- 6:36conquered, and he weepeth and sitteth in tribulation of fear.
- 6:42We shall not lie down in peace. Absu is laid waste, and Mamu,
- 6:49who were taken captive in. Thou didst let us lie down in
- 6:55peace. They will smite.
- 6:59Let us lie down in peace. Thou shalt take vengeance for
- 7:04them. Unto The Tempest shalt thou.

- 8:48this fashion. Huge of stature, she made eleven
- 8:52kinds of monsters among the gods who were her sons.
- 8:57Inasmuch as he had given her support, she exalted Kingu in
- 9:02their midst. She raised him to power, to
- 9:06March before the forces, to lead the host, to give the battle
- 9:11signal, to advance to the attack, to direct the battle, to
- 9:16control the fight. Unto him she entrusted in costly

- 9:42spouse. May they magnify thy name over
- 9:45all of them. The Anunnaki, she gave him the
- 9:51tablets of destiny. On his breast she laid them,
- 9:54saying, Thy command shall not be without a veil, and the word of
- 10:00thy mouth shall be established. Now King U, thus exalted, having
- 10:07received the power of Anu, decreed the fate among the gods.

- 11:12The days went by and his anger was appeased, and to the place
- 11:17of Ansar his father, he took his way.
- 11:21He went, and standing before Ansar the father who begat him,
- 11:26all that Tiamat had plotted, he repeated unto him, saying,
- 11:32Tiamat, our mother hath conceived a hatred for us.
- 11:36With all her force she rageth full of wrath.
- 11:41All the gods have turned to her with those whom ye created.
- 11:46They go at her side. They are banded together and at
- 11:50the side of Tiamat they advance. They are furious, they devise

- 12:32splendor she hath decked them. She hath made them of lofty
- 12:36stature. Whoever beholdeth them is
- 12:39overcome by terror. Their bodies rear up, and none
- 12:43can withstand their attack. She hath set up Vipers and
- 12:48Dragons, and the monster Lahamu, and hurricanes, and raging
- 12:53hounds, and scorpion men, and mighty tempests and fishmen and
- 12:58Rams. They bear cruel weapons without

- 13:07None can resist them after this fashion.
- 13:11Huge of stature hath she made 11 monsters among the gods who are
- 13:17her sons. Inasmuch as he hath given her
- 13:19support, she hath exalted the Kingu in their midst.
- 13:24She hath raised him to power, to March before the forces, to lead

- 14:31God, whoso is exalted in the battle, let him display his
- 14:36might. When Ansar heard how Tiamat was
- 14:40mightily in revolt, he bit his lips.
- 14:43His mind was not at peace. He made a bitter lamentation.
- 14:48Battle thou mamou, and AB SU thou hast smitten.
- 14:55But Tiamat hath exalted Kingu, and where is one who can oppose
- 15:01her deliberation? Thee of the gods knew the mood.
- 15:11Ansar unto his son addressed the word, My mighty hero, whose
- 15:19strength is great and whose onslaught cannot be withstood,
- 15:23go and stand before Tiamat, that her spirit may be appeased, that
- 15:29her heart may be merciful. But if she will not hearken unto
- 15:33thy word, our word shalt thou speak unto her, that she may be
- 15:38pacified. He heard the word of his father
- 15:43Ansar, and he directed his path to her.
- 15:46Toward her he took the way an drew nigh.
- 15:51He beheld the muttering of Tiamat, but he could not

- 15:58Ansar. He spake unto him an avenger
- 16:04valiant in the place of his decision.
- 16:08He spake unto him, Thy father. Thou art my son, who maketh
- 16:17merciful his heart to the battle shalt thou draw nigh.
- 16:22He that shall behold thee shall have peace.
- 16:27And the Lord rejoiced at the word of his father, and he drew
- 16:30nigh and stood before Ansar. Ansar beheld him, and his heart
- 16:35was filled with joy. He kissed him on the lips, and

- 16:45thy lips be overcome. Let me go that I may accomplish
- 16:50all that is in thy heart. O Ansar, let not the word of thy
- 16:54lips be overcome. Let me go that I may accomplish
- 16:59all that is in thy heart. What man is it who hath brought
- 17:04thee forth to battle? Tiamat, who is a woman, is armed
- 17:10and attacketh thee. Rejoice and be glad.
- 17:15The neck of Tiamat shalt thou swiftly trample under foot.
- 17:21Rejoice and be glad. The neck of Tiamat shalt thou
- 17:26swiftly trample under foot. O my son, who knoweth all
- 17:30wisdom. Pacify Tiamat with thy pure
- 17:33incantation. Speedily set out upon thy way,
- 17:38for thy blood shall not be poured out.
- 17:42Thou shalt return again. The Lord rejoiced at the word of
- 17:48His Father, His heart exalted, and unto his father he spake.
- 17:54O Lord of the Gods, destiny of the great gods.

- 18:12with my word. In place of you will I decree
- 18:15fate. May whatsoever I do remain
- 18:19unaltered. May the word of my lips never be
- 18:23chanced nor made of no avail. The third tablet, Ansar opened
- 18:52his mouth, and unto Gaga his minister, spake the word.

- 19:22for Marduk their avenger, they may decree the fate.
- 19:27Go Gaga, stand before them, and all that I tell thee, repeat
- 19:34unto them, and say, And SAR, your Son hath sent me.

- 20:07the side of Tiamat they advance. They are furious, they devise
- 20:13mischief without resting. Night and day they prepare for
- 20:16battle, fuming and raging. They have joined their forces
- 20:22and are making war. Umu Hubur, who formed all
- 20:27things, hath made in addition weapons invincible.
- 20:32She hath spawned monster serpents, sharp of tooth and the
- 20:36merciless of Fang. With poison instead of blood.
- 20:40She hath filled their bodies. Fierce monster Vipers she hath
- 20:45clothed with terror, with splendor she hath decked them.
- 20:50She hath made them of lofty stature.
- 20:53Whoever beholdeth them, terror overcometh him.

- 21:26fashion. Huge of stature hath she made 11
- 21:29monsters among the gods who are her sons.
- 21:33Inasmuch as he hath given her support, she hath exalted King
- 21:37Gu in their midst. She hath raised him to power, to

- 22:09The gods have I entrusted unto thee.
- 22:13Be thou exalted thou my chosen spouse.
- 22:17May they magnify thy name over all of them.
- 22:21The Anunnaki, She had given him the Tablets of Destiny.
- 22:26On his breast She'd laid them, saying, Thy command shall not be
- 22:31without avail, and the word of thy mouth shall be established.

- 23:13His heart hath prompted him. He opened his mouth and spake
- 23:18unto me, saying, If I, your Avenger, conquer Tiamat and give
- 23:24you life, appoint an assembly, make my fate pre eminent and

- 23:39May whatsoever I do remain unaltered.
- 23:42May the word of my lips never be changed nor made of no avail.
- 23:48Hasten therefore, and swiftly decree for him the fate which
- 23:52you bestow, that he may go and fight your strong enemy.
- 23:58Gaga, what he took his way, and humbly before Lahmu, and Lahmu
- 24:03the gods, his fathers, he made obeisance, and he kissed the
- 24:08ground at their feet. He humbled himself.
- 24:11Then he stood up and spake unto them, saying, And SAR, your son
- 24:17hath sent me. The purpose of his heart He hath
- 24:20made known unto me. He saith, That Tiamat our mother
- 24:25hath conceived a hatred for us. With all her force she rageth
- 24:29full of wrath. All the gods have turned to her,
- 24:34but those whom ye created, they go at her side.
- 24:38They are banded together and at the side of Tiamat they advance.
- 24:44They are furious, they devise mischief without resting.
- 24:47Night and day they prepare for battle.
- 24:51Fuming and raging, they have joined their forces and are
- 24:55making war. Umu Huboor, who formed all
- 24:59things, hath made in addition weapons invincible that she had
- 25:05spawned. Monster serpents, sharp of tooth
- 25:08and merciless of Fang, poison instead of blood, she hath
- 25:13filled their bodies. Fierce monster Vipers she hath
- 25:17clothed with terror, with splendor she hath ducked them,
- 25:22She hath made them of lofty stature.
- 25:25Whoever beholdeth them, terror overcometh him.
- 25:29Their bodies rear up, and none can withstand their attack.
- 25:33She hath set up Vipers and Dragons, and the monster Lahamu,
- 25:37and hurricanes, and raging hounds and scorpion men, and
- 25:41mighty tempests and fishmen and Rams.
- 25:46They bear merciless weapons without fear of the fight.
- 25:50Her commands are mighty, and none can resist them after this
- 25:56fashion. Huge of stature hath she made 11
- 26:00monsters among the gods who are her sons.
- 26:04Inasmuch as he hath given her support, she hath exalted King
- 26:08Gu in their midst. She hath raised him to power, to
- 26:11March before the forces, to lead the host, to give the battle
- 26:16signal, to advance to the attack, to direct the battle, to
- 26:20control the fight. Unto him hath she entrusted In
- 26:25costly raiment She hath made him sit, saying, I have uttered thy
- 26:29spell in the assembly of the gods.
- 26:32I have raised thee to power the dominion over all.
- 26:36The gods have I entrusted unto thee.
- 26:40Be thou exalted thou my chosen spouse.
- 26:43May they magnify thy name over all of them.
- 26:46The Anunnaki, She hath given him the Tablets of Destiny.
- 26:53On his breast she laid them, saying, Thy command shall not be
- 26:57without avail, and the word of thy mouth shall be established.
- 27:04Now King Gul, thus exalted, having received the power of
- 27:08Anu, decreed the fate for the gods.
- 27:12Her sons saying, Let the opening of your mouth quench the fire.
- 27:16God, whoso is exalted in battle, let him display his might.
- 27:22I sent Anu, but he could not withstand her, knew the mood,
- 27:28was afraid and turned back. But Marduk hath set out the
- 27:32director of the gods, your son, to set out against Tiamat.
- 27:36His heart have prompted him. He opened his mouth and spake
- 27:41unto me. If I, your avenger, conquer
- 27:44Tiamat and give you life a point in assembly, make my fate pre
- 27:48eminent and proclaim it in UPSU Kanaku.
- 27:52Seat yourselves joyfully together.
- 27:55If my word in place of you will I decree fate.
- 27:59May whatsoever I do remain unaltered.
- 28:02May the word of my lips never be changed nor made of no avail.
- 28:08Hasten therefore, and swiftly decree for him the fate which
- 28:12you bestow, that he may go and fight your strong enemy.
- 28:18La MU and La MU heard and cried aloud.
- 28:22All of the Agiggi. The elder gods wailed bitterly,
- 28:26saying what has been altered so that they should.
- 28:31We do not understand the deed of Tiamat.
- 28:35Then did they collect and go. The great gods, all of them who
- 28:40decree fate, They entered in before Ansar.
- 28:44They filled, they kissed one another in the assembly.
- 28:49They made ready for the feast. At the banquet they sat, they
- 28:55ate bread, they mixed sesame wine, the sweet drink, the Mead.
- 29:02Confused there they were drunk with drinking.
- 29:06Their bodies were filled, they were holy, at ease, their spirit
- 29:12was exalted. Then for Marduk, their avenger,
- 29:17did they decree the fate? they prepared for him, a lordly
- 29:52chamber before his father's. As Prince, he took his place.
- 29:57Thou art chiefest among the great gods, thy fate is
- 30:01unequalled. Thy word is Anu.
- 30:04O Marduk. Thou art chiefest among the
- 30:07great gods. Thy fate is unequaled.
- 30:10Thy word is Anu. Henceforth not without a veil
- 30:15shall be thy command, and thy power shall it be to exalt and
- 30:19to abase. Established shall be the word of
- 30:22thy mouth, Irresistible shall be thy command.
- 30:26None among the gods shall transgress thy boundary.
- 30:31Abundance, the desire of the shrines of the gods shall be
- 30:35established in thy sanctuary, even though they lack offerings.
- 30:40O Marduk, thou art our avenger. We give thee sovereignty over
- 30:47the whole world. Sit thou down in might be
- 30:52exalted in thy command. Thy weapon shall never lose its
- 30:58power, It shall crush thy foe. O Lord, spare the life of him
- 31:04that putteth his trust in thee. But As for the God who began the
- 31:08rebellion, pour out his life. Then sit they in their midst,
- 31:14the garment, and unto Marduk, their first born, they spake.
- 31:20May thy fate, O Lord, be supreme among the gods, to destroy and
- 31:26to create. Speak thou the word, and thy
- 31:28command shall be fulfilled. Command now and let the garment
- 31:33vanish, and speak the word again, and let the garment
- 31:37reappear. Then he spake with his mouth,
- 31:41and the garment vanished again. He commanded it, and the garment
- 31:45reappeared. When the gods, his fathers,
- 31:48beheld the fulfillment of his word, they rejoiced, and they
- 31:52did homage unto him, saying, Marduk is king.
- 31:57They bestowed upon him the sceptre and the throne and the
- 32:01ring. They gave him an invincible
- 32:04weaponry which overwhelmeth the foe.
- 32:08Go and cut off the life of Tiamat and let the wind carry
- 32:13her blood into secret places. After the gods his father's had
- 32:19decreed for the Lord his fate, they caused him to set out on a
- 32:23path of prosperity and success. He made ready the bow.
- 32:27He chose his weapon. He slung A spear upon him and
- 32:31fastened it. He raised the club in his right
- 32:35hand. He grasped it, the bow and the
- 32:37quiver. He hung at his side.
- 32:40He set the lightning in front of him with burning flame.
- 32:43He filled his body. He made a net to enclose the
- 32:47inward parts of Tiamat. The four winds he stationed so
- 32:51that nothing of her might escape the South wind and the north
- 32:56wind and the east wind and the West wind.
- 32:59He brought near to the net the gift of his father Anu.
- 33:03He created the evil wind and The Tempest and the hurricane, and
- 33:08the fourfold wind, and the sevenfold wind, and the
- 33:11whirlwind and the wind which had no equal.
- 33:15He sent forth the winds which He had created the seven of them,
- 33:19to disturb the inward parts of Tiamat.
- 33:22They found after him. Then the Lord raised the
- 33:26Thunderbolt, His mighty weapon. He mounted the chariot.
- 33:30The storm unequalled for terror. He harnessed and yoked unto it
- 33:35Four horses, destructive, ferocious, overwhelming, and
- 33:40swift of pace were their teeth. They were flecked with foam.
- 33:45They were skilled in. They had been trained to trample
- 33:48under foot. Mighty in battle left and right,
- 33:53his garment was. He was clothed with terror, with
- 33:58overpowering brightness. His head was crowned.
- 34:02Then he set out. He took his way, and toward the
- 34:05raging Tiamat. He set his face on his lips.
- 34:09He held, he grasped in his hand. Then they beheld him.
- 34:16The gods beheld him. The gods his fathers beheld him.
- 34:21The gods beheld him, and the Lord drew nigh.
- 34:26He gazed upon the inward parts of Tiamat.
- 34:30He perceived the muttering of King Gu, her spouse.
- 34:33As Marduk gazed, King Gu was troubled in his gait.
- 34:38His will was destroyed and his motions ceased.
- 34:42And the gods, his helpers who marched by his side, beheld
- 34:46their leaders, and their sight was troubled.
- 34:51But Tiamat, she turned not her neck.
- 34:55With lips that failed not, she uttered rebellious words.
- 35:00Thy coming as Lord of the gods from their places have they
- 35:05gathered in thy place, are they? Then the Lord raised the
- 35:12Thunderbolt His mighty weapon, and against Tiamat, who was
- 35:16raging thus, he sent the word, Thou art become great.
- 35:22Thou hast exalted thyself on high, and thy heart hath
- 35:27promoted thee to call to battle their fathers.
- 35:31There thou hatest. Thou hast exalted Kingu to be
- 35:37thy spouse. Thou hast him that even as Anu
- 35:42he should issue decrees. Thou hast followed after evil
- 35:48and against the gods my father's.
- 35:50Thou hast contrived thy wicked plan.
- 35:54Let them thy host be equipped. Let thy weapons be girded on.
- 35:59Stand I and thou let us join battle.
- 36:08When Tiamat heard these words, she was like 1 possessed.
- 36:13She lost her reason. Tiamat uttered wild, piercing
- 36:17cries. She trembled and shook to her
- 36:19very foundations. She recited an incantation.
- 36:23She pronounced her spell, and the gods of the battle cried out
- 36:28for their weapons. Then advanced Tiamat and Marduk,
- 36:33the counselor of the gods to the fight.
- 36:37They came on to the battle. They drew nigh.
- 36:40The Lord spread out his nut and caught her, and the evil wind
- 36:44that was behind him he let loose in her face.
- 36:48As Tiamat opened her mouth to its full extent.
- 36:51He drove in the evil wind, while as yet she had not shut her
- 36:56lips. The terrible winds filled her
- 36:59belly, and her courage was taken from her and her mouth.
- 37:04She opened wide. He seized the spear and burst
- 37:08her belly. He severed her inward parts.
- 37:11He pierced her heart, He overcame her and cut off her
- 37:15life. He cast down her body and stood
- 37:19upon it when he had slain Tiamat, the leader.
- 37:25Her might was broken, her host was scattered, and the gods, her
- 37:32helpers, who marched by her side, trembled and were afraid
- 37:38and turned back. They took to flight to save
- 37:42their lives, but they were surrounded so that they could
- 37:47not escape. He took them captive.
- 37:52He broke their weapons in the net.
- 37:56They were caught, and in the snare they sat down the of the
- 38:01world that they filled with cries of grief.
- 38:04They received punishment from him.
- 38:07They were held in bondage, and on the 11 creatures which she
- 38:11had filled with the power of striking terror upon the troop
- 38:15of devils who marched at her, he brought affliction.
- 38:19Their strength he them and their opposition he trampled under his
- 38:24feet. Moreover, King Gu, who had been
- 38:28exalted over them, he conquered, and with the God Dugka he
- 38:34counted him. He took from him the tablets of
- 38:37destiny that were not rightly his.
- 38:40He sealed them with a seal, and in his own breast he laid them.
- 38:45Now after the hero Marduk had conquered and cast down his
- 38:49enemies, and had made the arrogant foe even like, and had
- 38:53fully established Ansar's triumph over the enemy, and had
- 38:57attained the purpose of nude the mood over the captive gods, he
- 39:01strengthened his durance. And unto Tiamat, whom he had
- 39:05conquered, he returned. And the Lord stood upon Tiamat's
- 39:10hinderparts. And with his merciless club he
- 39:14smashed her skull, he cut through the channels of her
- 39:18blood, and he made the north wind bear it away into secret
- 39:22places his father's beheld. And they rejoiced and were glad.
- 39:29Presents and gifts they brought unto him.
- 39:33Then the Lord rested gazing upon her dead body, while he divided
- 39:38the flesh of the and devised a cutting plan.
- 39:42He split her up like a flat fish into two halves. 1/2 of her He
- 39:47established as a covering for heaven.
- 39:50He fixed a bolt. He stationed A watchman and bade
- 39:54them not to let her waters come forth.
- 39:57He passed through the heavens. He surveyed the regions thereof.
- 40:02And over against the deep he set the dwelling of nude the mood.
- 40:06And the Lord measured the structure of the deep, And he
- 40:10founded Isara, a mansion like unto it, the mansion Isara,
- 40:17which he created as heaven. He caused Anu, Bal and Yah in
- 40:23their districts to inhabit. he Marduk made, the stations for
- 40:59the great gods, the stars, their images as the stars of the
- 41:04Zodiac. He fixed.
- 41:06He ordained the year and intersections.
- 41:09He divided it for the 12 months. He fixed three stars.
- 41:14After he had the days of the year images.
- 41:18He founded the station of Nibiru to determine their bounds, that
- 41:23none might air or go astray. He set the station of Bell and
- 41:28EA along with him. He opened great gates on both
- 41:31sides. He made strong the bolt on the
- 41:34left and on the right. In the midst thereof he fixed
- 41:38the zenith. The moon God he caused to shine
- 41:41forth the night he entrusted to him.
- 41:45He appointed him a being of the night to determine the days
- 41:50every month without ceasing with the crown.
- 41:52He covered him saying, At the beginning of the month when thou
- 41:56shinest upon the land, thou commandest the horns to
- 42:00determine 6 days, and on the 7th day to divide the crown.
- 42:06On the 14th day thou shalt stand opposite the hath one, the Sun
- 42:11God on the foundation of heaven. The the thou shalt cause too,
- 42:17and thou shalt make his unto the path of the sun God shalt thou
- 42:22cause to draw nigh. And on the day thou shalt stand
- 42:27opposite, and the sun God shall to traverse her way, thou shalt
- 42:33cause to draw nigh. Thou shalt judge the right to
- 42:37destroy the gods. His father's beheld the net
- 42:42which he had made. They beheld the bow and how its
- 42:46work was accomplished. They praised the work which he
- 42:50had done. Then Anu raised the in the
- 42:55assembly of the gods. He kissed the bow, saying It is.
- 43:01And thus he named the names of the bow, saying, Longwood shall
- 43:06be one name, and the second name shall be, and it's third name
- 43:10shall be the bow Star in heaven shall it.
- 43:15Then he fixed the station for it.
- 43:18Now, after the fate of He set the throne in heaven.

- 43:43prompted him, and he devised A cunning plan.

- 43:51conceived in his heart. He imparted unto him, My blood
- 43:56will I take, and bone will I fashion.

- 44:03inhabit the earth, that the service of the gods may be
- 44:07established, and that their shrines may be built.
- 44:11But I will alter the ways of the gods, and I will change their
- 44:15paths. Together shall they be
- 44:18oppressed, and unto evil shall they.
