- 0:00Speaker 1: Bulet cav Podcast special guests in here who just tore
- 0:03Speaker 1: down the freestyle. Go check that out on the YouTube channel.
- 0:06Speaker 1: It's there as well. Harry Mack is here, Yes, sir,
- 0:09Speaker 1: welcome Man, Thanks for having me. Man. Hey, yeah, Man,
- 0:12Speaker 1: you've been on your shit lately, Bro, Thank you, Bro.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Appreciate that. So, for people who don't know, you're kind
- 0:17Speaker 1: of known for your ability to rap very well, but
- 0:21Speaker 1: more importantly like off of the top of the dome,
- 0:25Speaker 1: which is something that is a lost art form. We
- 0:27Speaker 1: have a freestyle series on the show, and I would
- 0:30Speaker 1: venture to say ninety five percent of the bars that
- 0:32Speaker 1: have ever been wrapped on our show is written. We
- 0:37Speaker 1: still call them freestyles. Obviously that term is like evolved,
- 0:40Speaker 1: but like in the old school old head term that
- 0:43Speaker 1: me and you live by, you are the true definition
- 0:45Speaker 1: of a freestyle artist. Thank you, Bro. I appreciate that.
- 0:48Speaker 1: But no, you've done a really good job of you know,
- 0:53Speaker 1: I feel like people before you who might have had
- 0:56Speaker 1: your talent also different eras right, but like you've done
- 1:00Speaker 1: a good job of like figuring out a way to
- 1:04Speaker 1: build like a universe and monetize your skill. So kind
- 1:08Speaker 1: of like you've had a great pandemic. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:11Speaker 1: have Yeah. It's weird to say, you know, because obviously
- 1:13Speaker 1: there's been a lot of pain for a lot of
- 1:15Speaker 1: people through the pandemic, and I think we've all brushed
- 1:17Speaker 1: shoulders with that pain in one way or another. But
- 1:20Speaker 1: from a business standpoint for me, and just from a
- 1:23Speaker 1: creative standpoint, you know, I've had the time and the
- 1:26Speaker 1: space to really build, like you say, build a universe
- 1:28Speaker 1: around what I'm doing, and kind of build a brand
- 1:30Speaker 1: around being an off top freestyler, right, you know, And
- 1:34Speaker 1: I think I'm really fortunate. Man. You mentioned how you know,
- 1:37Speaker 1: cats from from the previous era weren't always able to
- 1:40Speaker 1: monetize the off top freestyle thing. I feel really fortunate
- 1:44Speaker 1: to be alive in this Internet era, you know. I
- 1:46Speaker 1: really do think it's almost made for that. Yeah. That's
- 1:48Speaker 1: the difference, right. It's like now we live in a
- 1:50Speaker 1: time where, you know, previously it's like if you're an
- 1:53Speaker 1: incredibly talented off top freestyler, a record label is going
- 1:56Speaker 1: to be like, yo, that's dope, we don't know what
- 1:58Speaker 1: to do with it. Sorry. You know, it's like okay, cool.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Like when you have a hit song, hit us up,
- 2:03Speaker 1: you know, Meanwhile, this talent is like insane and everybody
- 2:07Speaker 1: who sees it live loves it, but it just doesn't
- 2:09Speaker 1: fit in with the structure that sort of exists already. Now,
- 2:11Speaker 1: we live in a time where anybody with a phone
- 2:13Speaker 1: can get on these free platforms and build a personal
- 2:16Speaker 1: brand with whatever they're into doing, and if there's an
- 2:19Speaker 1: audience for it that enjoys it, you can monetize it.
- 2:22Speaker 1: And so, yeah, I know you've been doing this for
- 2:23Speaker 1: a while. I first saw you on the Creuse Show. Yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 1: probably four or five years ago. And what is like
- 2:31Speaker 1: the platform that like really first started to really like
- 2:34Speaker 1: pop off for you in like a serious way. YouTube
- 2:37Speaker 1: was definitely the first in terms of like in terms
- 2:40Speaker 1: of social platforms you mean yea, yeah, yeah, YouTube was
- 2:42Speaker 1: the first one that was the big one actually, YouTube
- 2:45Speaker 1: and Facebook. Oddly enough, because I had a video back
- 2:48Speaker 1: in February twenty seventeen. It was just called Venice Beach
- 2:53Speaker 1: Freestyle Part one and it was just me out there
- 2:56Speaker 1: on the Venice Boardwalk. Scary place to be nowadays, by
- 2:59Speaker 1: the way, I know, Yeah, it's a lot different now. Yeah,
- 3:01Speaker 1: post pandemic or whatever, mid pandemic through right now exactly
- 3:06Speaker 1: wherever we're at in this crazy timeline. What is time
- 3:08Speaker 1: anymore anyway? But uh no, man, Yeah, I was out there.
- 3:12Speaker 1: It was funny. We had been there all day trying
- 3:13Speaker 1: to freestyle for groups and stuff and just you know,
- 3:15Speaker 1: getting rejected, getting yelled at, hey, don't do this in
- 3:18Speaker 1: front of my store, no filming, no whatever, whatever, And
- 3:21Speaker 1: we were frustrated, and eventually my boy, who was with
- 3:23Speaker 1: me filming it on my phone, was like, yo, just
- 3:25Speaker 1: start wrapping and see what happens. So I started rhyming
- 3:28Speaker 1: on the on the boardwalk, and one by one, you know,
- 3:31Speaker 1: this crowd starts to form, and it was kind of
- 3:33Speaker 1: like it was very serendipitous, you know, the crowd that forms.
- 3:37Speaker 1: It looks like we hired people to be the crowd
- 3:40Speaker 1: because it's so like diverse. And there's like these like
- 3:43Speaker 1: preppy boys on bikes and like polos and shorts. Then
- 3:46Speaker 1: there's like this stoner couple with a big dude and
- 3:49Speaker 1: the Bob Marley shirt, smoking an em you know, and
- 3:51Speaker 1: just one by one, it's like you get sort of
- 3:53Speaker 1: this whole picture of like the diversity of the Venice
- 3:56Speaker 1: strip in front of me. We ended up with like
- 3:57Speaker 1: forty or fifty people gathered around me and I'm wrapping
- 3:59Speaker 1: at everybody's clothes and everything like that, And that video
- 4:03Speaker 1: went super viral, both on YouTube and on Facebook, and
- 4:06Speaker 1: that was kind of the beginning of of people knowing
- 4:09Speaker 1: about Harry mag I guess, how long have you been
- 4:11Speaker 1: doing the omeegal freestyles? Yeah? I guess. Uh, we like
- 4:16Speaker 1: a year and a half, right, So you started that
- 4:19Speaker 1: during the pandemic. I started it during the pandemic. Yeah,
- 4:22Speaker 1: let me ask you something, because that's a sketch place illegal.
- 4:25Speaker 1: You know, you might fuck around to go in there.
- 4:26Speaker 1: There's a fifty five year old truck driver jerking off, like,
- 4:28Speaker 1: oh yeah, absolutely, has that happened? That's specific? Maybe not
- 4:33Speaker 1: that's specific. Yeah, well he's like I didn't know his occupation,
- 4:35Speaker 1: but it was fifty five and Dick was out. I've
- 4:38Speaker 1: seen some things, definitely, I've seen some things, but not
- 4:40Speaker 1: as many. So here's the thing. It's funny actually, like
- 4:43Speaker 1: before the pandemic, people were making alegal content on YouTube,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and so people would be in my comments like, yo,
- 4:49Speaker 1: your shit would crush on amigal because really what I
- 4:52Speaker 1: make is reaction based content. It's about people who don't
- 4:54Speaker 1: know that I'm going to be dope and then I
- 4:56Speaker 1: do a freestyle and then hopefully I blow their mind.
- 4:59Speaker 1: And that's what's fun about watching it in a large part,
- 5:01Speaker 1: so people would hit me up and be like, do
- 5:03Speaker 1: it on amgal. But I knew kind of what was
- 5:05Speaker 1: up with amgal, and I think I just remember chat
- 5:07Speaker 1: roulette back in the day, exactly, and it was like
- 5:09Speaker 1: a dark place exactly. They always any any site that
- 5:12Speaker 1: randomly pairs strangers on video chat is a recipe for disaster. Yes,
- 5:17Speaker 1: like it's gonna be corrupted. So I avoided amgal for
- 5:20Speaker 1: a long time, and then you know, a few months
- 5:23Speaker 1: into the pandemic, it's like, damn, we can't go out
- 5:24Speaker 1: and shoot our regular content, Like let me check this
- 5:27Speaker 1: out and see what's up. And actually now it's a
- 5:30Speaker 1: lot better than it used to be because they have
- 5:31Speaker 1: these tags, interest tags or whatever, so you could type
- 5:34Speaker 1: in hip hop, it's like whatever you're into. And they
- 5:39Speaker 1: also have much and that creates a lot more filtering.
- 5:41Speaker 1: So if you don't use those, you see a ton
- 5:43Speaker 1: of dicks. If you use those, I maybe see you know,
- 5:46Speaker 1: like in all my time making the series, honestly, in
- 5:49Speaker 1: terms of actually seeing a dick. I've probably seen like twenty.
- 5:52Speaker 1: It's a solid money and I have like sixty episodes,
- 5:54Speaker 1: you know. I mean it's more than I would say
- 5:57Speaker 1: terrible ratio though, that's what I'm saying. I mean, I
- 6:00Speaker 1: would have liked to have not seen anybody. I mean,
- 6:01Speaker 1: it's funny. He's not bad, That's what I'm saying. Like
- 6:03Speaker 1: people assume because people don't want there to try to
- 6:05Speaker 1: find me and they don't know about the interest tags
- 6:08Speaker 1: and then so they're just like, I can't find you
- 6:10Speaker 1: on me. I just keep seeing dicks. Yeah, and they're like, wow,
- 6:13Speaker 1: you must have a terrible PTSD, like you should be counseling,
- 6:16Speaker 1: Like the amount of dicks are exposed too must be absurd.
- 6:19Speaker 1: But it's really not. It's not as crazy. Yeah. Have
- 6:21Speaker 1: you had like a bad experience on there, like where
- 6:23Speaker 1: you were freestyling and something weird happened. I've had some
- 6:26Speaker 1: sketch experiences on there while I'm freestyling. Yeah, like where
- 6:29Speaker 1: where I stopped the freestyling was like, Bro, you know,
- 6:31Speaker 1: you need to get help, like people doing like weird
- 6:34Speaker 1: drugs and stuff like on the on the screen where
- 6:37Speaker 1: like you're wrapping and then someone comes up with a
- 6:38Speaker 1: meth pipe, Like yeah, essentially, Yeah, like I don't know
- 6:43Speaker 1: what's in it, and it could be a prop, you know,
- 6:44Speaker 1: it could be they could be trolling. But it's still
- 6:47Speaker 1: just like insanely uncomfortable and I stop it and I'm like, oh,
- 6:49Speaker 1: don't don't do that. Yeah, And also and everyone can
- 6:51Speaker 1: see your face and like, don't do you know, people
- 6:54Speaker 1: don't understand the internet. It feels like, you know where
- 6:56Speaker 1: I'm just like, hey, man, like people forget that that
- 6:58Speaker 1: shit is there forever. Yeah, it's on a server somewhere
- 7:01Speaker 1: at least forever. And you've got to assume people are
- 7:03Speaker 1: screencapping everything you're doing. This is true. So what about
- 7:08Speaker 1: the TikTok? And I know you were on Twitch a lot, right,
- 7:10Speaker 1: So like those are obviously kind of two platforms that
- 7:14Speaker 1: you know, a lot of people I know, especially DJs,
- 7:17Speaker 1: took advantage of Twitch big time during the pandemic. Yeah,
- 7:20Speaker 1: and man, I know some people who are getting crazy
- 7:23Speaker 1: checks just DJing on Twitch. Hell yeah, how did the
- 7:28Speaker 1: Twitch shit for you? Like, cause you know, in the
- 7:30Speaker 1: hip hop community, we got Kenny Beads is huge on Twitch.
- 7:32Speaker 1: But like, how did you kind of turn what you
- 7:35Speaker 1: do into something that worked for the Twitch. Yeah, so
- 7:38Speaker 1: with what I do, you know, being being as it's
- 7:40Speaker 1: all kind of improvised off top, It's like what I
- 7:43Speaker 1: need is some kind of randomization, you know, like people
- 7:45Speaker 1: in the chat like, yeah, exactly, we just did a freestyle.
- 7:47Speaker 1: You threw me words out loud. That's always dope. That's
- 7:50Speaker 1: like the classic way of doing this, and uh, you know,
- 7:53Speaker 1: in this case, it's just a live chat feed people
- 7:56Speaker 1: putting words in there. Yeah. Yeah, So basically any like
- 7:58Speaker 1: live streaming platform, book, live YouTube, live Twitch, they all
- 8:03Speaker 1: work really well for what I do. The only the
- 8:06Speaker 1: learning curve was like reading it and incorporating it from
- 8:09Speaker 1: a written word as opposed to hearing it out loud.
- 8:12Speaker 1: It's different. It's like a slightly different part of the
- 8:14Speaker 1: brain or something. I don't know the science of it,
- 8:16Speaker 1: but it was a bit of a challenge in the
- 8:18Speaker 1: beginning because rhyme is all about sound. It has nothing
- 8:21Speaker 1: to do with how something spells, like Devil doesn't rhyme
- 8:23Speaker 1: with evil. They look like they rhyme correct, but they don't.
- 8:26Speaker 1: So you kind of it's like I have to read
- 8:28Speaker 1: it and then hear it in my head, and then
- 8:29Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, okay, now I know where to go
- 8:31Speaker 1: while you're wrapping, while you're at Yeah, it's a lot
- 8:33Speaker 1: of multitasking. It's kind of a what at what point
- 8:36Speaker 1: in time were you able to say to yourself, I
- 8:38Speaker 1: can fully support my life off of my skill. Wow,
- 8:43Speaker 1: that's a great question. I feel like it was like
- 8:49Speaker 1: twenty eighteen. I feel like twenty eighteen, I did a
- 8:54Speaker 1: Mitsubishi commercial and uh, it was crazy because I I
- 9:00Speaker 1: was used to being like pretty much broke. You know,
- 9:03Speaker 1: I'm a jazz drummer. I don't know if you know that,
- 9:04Speaker 1: but I did not know that my background. Yeah, so
- 9:06Speaker 1: my background is playing jazz gigs, and so that was
- 9:10Speaker 1: like your gig, like, like you besides rapping you were
- 9:13Speaker 1: that was like pay the bills and teaching drum lessons. Yeah.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I've been a professional musician supporting myself for a long time,
- 9:19Speaker 1: you know, I think like ten years. Yeah. But but
- 9:23Speaker 1: the hustle of a of a jazz drummer in the
- 9:26Speaker 1: modern world, as you might imagine, is a serious, an
- 9:29Speaker 1: intense hustle, serious hustle. It's an intense hull and it's
- 9:32Speaker 1: not you know, it's not glamorous in any sense. I mean,
- 9:35Speaker 1: I was playing like bar gigs where we're crammed in
- 9:38Speaker 1: a corner and just being told play quieter, play quieter.
- 9:41Speaker 1: You know, you're disturbing whatever, you know, don't do your thing,
- 9:44Speaker 1: so like stop being so aggressive, and you're out there
- 9:47Speaker 1: trying to pour your soul into this thing you love.
- 9:49Speaker 1: And it's like, you know, we're doing here for the ambiance. Yeah, yeah, exactly,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and we're getting paid fifty bucks or something. And the
- 9:54Speaker 1: first couple of gigs we got free drinks. Second gig,
- 9:56Speaker 1: they're like, yeah, the bar is not gonna do the
- 9:57Speaker 1: free drink thing anymore. But same time, you cool. And
- 10:00Speaker 1: so it's a tough grind. Shout out to all the
- 10:02Speaker 1: jazz musicians, by the way, and I have a lot
- 10:04Speaker 1: of friends who are still in that world crushing it, right,
- 10:06Speaker 1: and I know what it really means to be crushing
- 10:09Speaker 1: it in that world, So shouts out to anybody doing that.
- 10:12Speaker 1: But for me, you know, I was like barely making
- 10:14Speaker 1: my rant, barely barely getting by doing jazz gigs. And
- 10:18Speaker 1: then in twenty eighteen, I did I got hired to
- 10:21Speaker 1: do a commercial for Mitsubishi, which was like kind of
- 10:23Speaker 1: based on my videos where I'm dressed up like car
- 10:27Speaker 1: salesman at the Mitsubeci dealership and then people getting the
- 10:30Speaker 1: car to test drive it, and I'm sitting next to them,
- 10:33Speaker 1: and then I'd start rhyming about the car and shit
- 10:34Speaker 1: like that out of nowhere and get reactions and stuff.
- 10:37Speaker 1: And that was my first like check kind of you know,
- 10:41Speaker 1: and it wasn't anything crazy, but like for me at
- 10:43Speaker 1: the time, it was like more money than I'd ever seen.
- 10:45Speaker 1: It was like just enough to be like, oh, I
- 10:47Speaker 1: got to keep doing this exactly, working exactly exactly. And
- 10:51Speaker 1: I knew before that that I had to keep leaning
- 10:53Speaker 1: into the freestyle thing just from like the popularity of
- 10:56Speaker 1: the videos and how much energy there was around it,
- 10:58Speaker 1: but that was the first time I kind of like
- 11:01Speaker 1: got paid and uh. And then I took some time
- 11:03Speaker 1: away from YouTube and was like working on a project
- 11:05Speaker 1: and stuff like that, like an album. Yeah, and that
- 11:08Speaker 1: was cool, but I kind of like I lived off
- 11:11Speaker 1: the money from Mitsubishi for it. It It was like a
- 11:13Speaker 1: label advance almost, you know. Luckily I didn't owe it
- 11:15Speaker 1: back here, but I lived off it for a while
- 11:18Speaker 1: and like worked on shit and didn't really think about
- 11:21Speaker 1: like what am I gonna do when this gets low,
- 11:23Speaker 1: And sure enough it got low, and again I was
- 11:25Speaker 1: at a point where I was like, Yo, I'm gonna
- 11:26Speaker 1: have to like apply to Trader Joe's and fucking start.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to like get a fucking job, you know.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Like I looked up one day and was like, I'm
- 11:31Speaker 1: gonna have to get a job. And then uh and
- 11:34Speaker 1: shout out to my girlfriend, who was like, fuck that,
- 11:37Speaker 1: Like you're dope, man. Like people, you have a fan base,
- 11:40Speaker 1: you just have to activate some more of this shit
- 11:42Speaker 1: and like figure out how to monetize. And that's when
- 11:45Speaker 1: I started diving deep into like, Okay, how can I
- 11:48Speaker 1: use YouTube like a YouTuber, you know what I mean?
- 11:51Speaker 1: Like how can I actually build this out and make
- 11:55Speaker 1: money off it? And how can I do the same
- 11:56Speaker 1: on ig and Twitch and things of that nature. And
- 11:59Speaker 1: since then, like from a business standpoint, we've been able
- 12:02Speaker 1: to really grow. Yo. Stop of the interview. Got to
- 12:05Speaker 1: tell you about our good folks at odd socks. Man, Listen,
- 12:08Speaker 1: go to odd socksofficial dot com. Use the promo code

- 12:35Speaker 1: Come on, what are we doing. Go to odd socksofficial

- 12:47Speaker 1: Throw all the methicas in the trash, all that PSD shit,
- 12:50Speaker 1: all that shit is all listen, man, put them odd
- 12:53Speaker 1: socks on your ass cheeks and thank me later. I
- 12:55Speaker 1: was gonna say, do you think that I think? What
- 12:59Speaker 1: I know? This was a lot of the creatives that
- 13:02Speaker 1: I know. The pandemic kind of helped a lot of
- 13:05Speaker 1: people finally shine because it kind of like reset the
- 13:09Speaker 1: world and kind of like I feel like it kind
- 13:11Speaker 1: of everybody was starting from the same place, yes, because
- 13:16Speaker 1: you know, people were going out to the clubs. Like
- 13:17Speaker 1: you know, if you look at the Best Albums of
- 13:19Speaker 1: the Year nominees in twenty twenty, it was like Royce
- 13:22Speaker 1: and Jay, Electronica and Freddie Gibbs and it was just
- 13:25Speaker 1: like all this ill rap shit. Yeah, like I feel
- 13:28Speaker 1: like like a certain amount of like maybe it's time
- 13:32Speaker 1: opening up or the way people are consuming shit. But
- 13:35Speaker 1: did you feel like an uptick in your shit, like
- 13:37Speaker 1: when everything shut down big time? I think it was
- 13:40Speaker 1: a few things for everyone, and maybe a few things
- 13:42Speaker 1: specifically for me. But one was like everybody was at
- 13:46Speaker 1: home and everybody was scared, you know what I mean,
- 13:49Speaker 1: or uncomfortable or sad or whatever, and people were just
- 13:54Speaker 1: looking for content to distract them or to consume their time.
- 13:58Speaker 1: You know, people were just sitting on the couch one
- 13:59Speaker 1: of the watch something, you know, to pass the time.
- 14:02Speaker 1: And so people who were providing content suddenly had an
- 14:06Speaker 1: opportunity like to really step up. I think the other
- 14:09Speaker 1: thing is like previously, it's like Hollywood is doing these
- 14:13Speaker 1: big budgets, super produced things, and everybody else is at
- 14:16Speaker 1: home with their little webcam. But then all of a sudden,
- 14:19Speaker 1: like overnight, it was like you go on Netflix and
- 14:21Speaker 1: people are on webcams. You watch the news and it's
- 14:23Speaker 1: like the shitty webcams, you know what I mean, Like
- 14:25Speaker 1: everybody was at home proome content with the same webcams,
- 14:29Speaker 1: and like suddenly the tech part was taken out of
- 14:32Speaker 1: it kind of where it's like it's not such a
- 14:34Speaker 1: huge difference between a random YouTube content creator and like
- 14:37Speaker 1: what you're seeing on TV. And so that was kind
- 14:40Speaker 1: of like a leveler I feel like in a lot
- 14:42Speaker 1: of ways, Like figure it was a level playing field
- 14:44Speaker 1: in exact way. And so then it just came back
- 14:47Speaker 1: to the quality of what you're making, you know. It
- 14:49Speaker 1: just came back to like, if you're making something valuable,
- 14:52Speaker 1: then you have a you have a chance to really win,
- 14:54Speaker 1: right now. Yeah that's real man. Yeah. Pandemic was good
- 14:57Speaker 1: to a lot of people. I mean, obviously I'm talking
- 14:59Speaker 1: about just career wise, Like I feel like people people
- 15:02Speaker 1: definitely like the people who took advantage of the circumstances.
- 15:05Speaker 1: You know, well, what did they say when someone gives
- 15:08Speaker 1: you shit? Turn it in? Lemonade? An Atmosphere album? Yes, yeah,
- 15:13Speaker 1: isn't that an atmosphere album? It is, it is, but
- 15:15Speaker 1: it's something it's a twist one, not that it's a twist.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Whatever I just said is not the name of the album,
- 15:19Speaker 1: but there's some sort of atmosphere album that's close close
- 15:22Speaker 1: enough to that. Yes, what are you working on right now?
- 15:25Speaker 1: Do you have anything coming? Like? I know you're putting
- 15:27Speaker 1: out weekly videos and you're you're on your ship, but
- 15:29Speaker 1: like as far as like, are you gonna put out
- 15:31Speaker 1: original music soon? Definitely? Definitely. Yeah, I'm going hard on
- 15:34Speaker 1: the video content as always, but yeah, in terms of
- 15:38Speaker 1: original music, I've been having a lot of fun, man,
- 15:40Speaker 1: exploring kind of how to use my freestyling to create records,
- 15:44Speaker 1: you know, and uh, because I just don't I don't
- 15:48Speaker 1: like to write, Like I don't enjoy sitting with a
- 15:50Speaker 1: If I sit with a blank page and a pen,
- 15:52Speaker 1: I feel like I don't know how to wrap, and
- 15:53Speaker 1: I'll just sit there forever looking at it like I
- 15:55Speaker 1: what would I what would I ever write right now?
- 15:57Speaker 1: You know? And then as soon as it's like okay,
- 15:58Speaker 1: play the beat and start the mic, Then as soon
- 16:00Speaker 1: as I start rapping, I remember how to wrap. So
- 16:02Speaker 1: for me, it's just a thing about process. But we've
- 16:04Speaker 1: actually released two little mini EPs, like little three song
- 16:07Speaker 1: projects in the last six months or so that were
- 16:11Speaker 1: either fully off top or or like a hybrid where
- 16:13Speaker 1: it's like I'll jot some ideas and then kind of
- 16:15Speaker 1: just go in the booth and go off top. And
- 16:18Speaker 1: the fan base has been rocking with them, man, and
- 16:19Speaker 1: so I'm excited to continue exploring that path. We just
- 16:22Speaker 1: released one called Soliloquies about a month ago that that
- 16:26Speaker 1: people are rocking with on my YouTube and stuff like that,
- 16:28Speaker 1: and those are coming out to like DSP, Spotify and
- 16:30Speaker 1: Apple Music and all that. So I want to continue
- 16:32Speaker 1: kind of exploring that process of doing what I'm comfortable
- 16:35Speaker 1: with but still being able to release like official albums
- 16:38Speaker 1: and projects. What like inspired you to start freestyling back
- 16:41Speaker 1: in the day, Like what was that first? Like you know, yeah,
- 16:45Speaker 1: It's funny because there's a couple of like really early childhood,
- 16:48Speaker 1: Like I saw Wayne Brady on Who's Line when I
- 16:50Speaker 1: was in third grade and I was like what I
- 16:54Speaker 1: was like, I asked my mom. I was like, wait,
- 16:56Speaker 1: what's the trick? Like they give him the stuff ahead,
- 16:58Speaker 1: he wrote it in advance and there are a plan
- 17:00Speaker 1: Like I was the skeptic in my comment section when
- 17:02Speaker 1: I first saw Yeah, because he would make songs about
- 17:06Speaker 1: people you know, but he would sing and stuff. It
- 17:08Speaker 1: was on whose line, but he would learn their job,
- 17:10Speaker 1: favorite color, whatever, whatever, and create this like brilliant song
- 17:12Speaker 1: with the chorus and stuff off the top. That was
- 17:14Speaker 1: the first time my mind got blown from like lyrical
- 17:16Speaker 1: improv and then from a hip hop standpoint, without a doubt,
- 17:21Speaker 1: the person that lit the fire for me was Supernatural Supernat. Yeah, yeah,
- 17:26Speaker 1: shout out to Supernat, like he's the goat freestyler. I agree,
- 17:31Speaker 1: but yeah, I was exposed to a project he had
- 17:33Speaker 1: called the Lost Freestyle Files. When I was in like
- 17:37Speaker 1: sixth grade. I would walk up to Music Millennium. It
- 17:39Speaker 1: was the record store by my house, and one of
- 17:42Speaker 1: the dudes who worked there was a hip hop head.
- 17:43Speaker 1: So at the end of the hip hop aisle he
- 17:45Speaker 1: would put like his top five picks of the week,
- 17:47Speaker 1: and one week, one of those top five picks was
- 17:49Speaker 1: Supernatural Lost Freestyle Files. And I didn't know who Supernat was,
- 17:53Speaker 1: but I was already into freestyling. We would watch like
- 17:55Speaker 1: one oh six in Park Battles and stuff like that
- 17:57Speaker 1: and just try to try to do our little freestyle.
- 18:00Speaker 1: You know. We were super whack, but we were having
- 18:01Speaker 1: fun and uh so I saw it in just off
- 18:04Speaker 1: the strength of the title. I was like, oh, freestyle files.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I like the freestyle, let's check it out. And good
- 18:08Speaker 1: thing I did, because that record definitely blew my fucking mind. Man,
- 18:12Speaker 1: like that shit, because when I heard Supernat again, it
- 18:15Speaker 1: was like the first time I saw Wayne Brady where
- 18:17Speaker 1: I was like, it's not possible, Like, how is it
- 18:19Speaker 1: so smooth? It sounds written, but yet he's incorporating these
- 18:24Speaker 1: things that are proving you know that it's not written,
- 18:27Speaker 1: and so like, just that alone was enough of a
- 18:30Speaker 1: spark for me to want to like do a deep
- 18:32Speaker 1: dive and try to figure that out, and from there
- 18:34Speaker 1: you you expand the universe. He had a battle with Juice,
- 18:36Speaker 1: so I started checking out Juice and then you get
- 18:38Speaker 1: on YouTube, and you know, we were into rhyme sayers
- 18:41Speaker 1: and atmosphere and them, and I learned about idea, Who's
- 18:43Speaker 1: another idea, phenomenal freestyler, rest in peace, So yeah, freestyle fellowship.
- 18:48Speaker 1: You know, bit by bit, we were just nerdy kids
- 18:49Speaker 1: trying to learn about the shit. And but yeah, definitely,
- 18:52Speaker 1: Supernat was the first dude in a hip hop context
- 18:55Speaker 1: that blew my mind with the freestyle and then you've
- 18:57Speaker 1: just been sharpening your sword. Yeah yeah, I'm upset, like
- 19:00Speaker 1: I'm it's scary. I'm scary. It is pretty crazy. Man,
- 19:05Speaker 1: you're fucking yeah. Man, that's no like, uh, you're one
- 19:10Speaker 1: of them ones. Oh thank you, Bro. I appreciate that.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I appreciate that. It is just it really it comes
- 19:14Speaker 1: down to practice and commitment and putting the time in.
- 19:17Speaker 1: You know. I always try to mention that because people
- 19:19Speaker 1: see what I do and they're like they're baffled by
- 19:22Speaker 1: it because they've never thought about how that would work right,
- 19:24Speaker 1: the same way I felt when I heard Supernad and
- 19:26Speaker 1: they're just like, yo, Like, how's it feel to be
- 19:28Speaker 1: born with this? Like incredible blessing and shit like that.
- 19:31Speaker 1: I think I was born with a spark, for sure.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I think I have a talent for improv and knack
- 19:35Speaker 1: for it, But for sure, my first freestyles were whack.
- 19:38Speaker 1: You would never hear my first freestyles and be like,
- 19:40Speaker 1: he's got it? Would you ever do? What? Have they
- 19:42Speaker 1: ever hit you? You do wilding out? No, not officially,
- 19:45Speaker 1: not officially. They got to get you on wilding out
- 19:47Speaker 1: your body. Everybody on there, I feel like you're just
- 19:49Speaker 1: too nice for wilding out though, Oh, because you mean,
- 19:52Speaker 1: like literally, like you're a sweet guy. It's true, man,
- 19:56Speaker 1: Like I don't battle. People see what I do and
- 19:58Speaker 1: they're like, you crush the battle scene Like yeah, yeah, man,
- 20:00Speaker 1: I'm too nice for that shit. Yeah exactly, I don't
- 20:03Speaker 1: really like this people. You don't want to just black
- 20:05Speaker 1: China and make her cry, right exactly? Wilding out? Yeah, No,
- 20:09Speaker 1: I think that would be the next thing for you.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Got to do that, wi wilding out. I would love to, Seriously,
- 20:13Speaker 1: I would love you. Yeah, I would love to, and
- 20:15Speaker 1: I think you would be uh. I mean obviously you
- 20:16Speaker 1: would kill it. You'd be the best guy on there,
- 20:18Speaker 1: you know, easily. But look, I appreciate you coming through.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Uh soon, it's gonna be You got a couple EPs
