Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: This is the ParentAp Daily Debrief for July 24th, 2026.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Before you scroll past, your kid's phone right now could have an AI chatbot that told other teenagers to use a gun.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: The Center for Countering Digital Hate just published an investigation where researchers posed as teenagers on eight of the biggest AI chatbots.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Eight out of ten helped them plan violent attacks.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: One bot literally said use a gun, not a glitch, a feature that's still live on your kid's phone.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: So here's the move.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Grab your team's phone before bed tonight.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Yes, I know that might be a battle, but it matters.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Go into settings, then screen time, then content and privacy restrictions.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Turn on limit adult websites, then check what apps they've been downloading.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: If you see character.ai, chat GPT, or any AI companion app, open it and dig into its settings for restricted mode or safety toggle.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Enable it.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: It takes three minutes and it's the single most important thing you can do tonight.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: The FBI says sextortion is now the fastest growing crime against minors in America.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: They're specifically warning about financially motivated rings targeting teenage boys, predators posing as peers, gaining trust, then demanding money.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: One in three teams has now sent or received explicit images.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Here's your move.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Here's your move.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Before you hand their phone back tonight, go back into settings, tap screen time, then communication safety.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Turn on check for sensitive photos.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: This makes it so explicit images get blurred automatically before your kid ever sees them.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: And if they try to send one, they get a warning with an option to reach out to a trusted adult.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: On Android, open the Family Link app, tap your kid's name, go to filters, and turn on content restrictions.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Do both phones tonight.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: The Kids Act just passed the House.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: This is the bill that would force Instagram, TikTok, and Snapshot to let teens opt out of addictive algorithm feeds and turn off data collection.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: The Senate vote is expected in weeks, and big tech is spending millions on lobbyists to kill it.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Here's your move.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Open your browser and go to Senate.gov.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Click Find Your Senators, call their office.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: It takes two minutes.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Say I'm a parent and I'm calling to ask the senator to vote yes on the Kids Act with the strong amendments.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Two minutes of your time is worth more than a million dollars of tech lobbying.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Stay in the fight, parents.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Your kids are counting on you.
