- 0:07Speaker 1: A reminder, no Longhorn Weekly was Sark this week because
- 0:14Speaker 1: of the open date on the schedule, so there's no
- 0:20Speaker 1: coaches show out at Pluckers with Sark on Wednesday. However,
- 0:25Speaker 1: we do have one on Thursday with Rodney Terry, another
- 0:27Speaker 1: basketball preview edition because the long worn basketball team in
- 0:31Speaker 1: case you haven't noticed, And every time my wife Linda
- 0:34Speaker 1: stumbles upon this over the past few days, she's like, Wow,
- 0:37Speaker 1: Basketball's about to start. I'm like, yeah, it's coming up
- 0:41Speaker 1: on us Monday night in Las Vegas, Nevada, Texas taking
- 0:47Speaker 1: part of that Hall of Fame series and they will
- 0:49Speaker 1: play the Ohio State Buckeyes on Monday night at eight
- 0:55Speaker 1: thirty eight thirty. There's a women's game Michigan South Carolina
- 0:59Speaker 1: precedes that, but Texas will play Ohio State at eight
- 1:03Speaker 1: thirty on Monday night and you'll be able to hear
- 1:08Speaker 1: that on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone, so
- 1:10Speaker 1: we'll bring it to you on Monday night. Cameron Parker's
- 1:13Speaker 1: very excited about going back to Las Vegas, I am,
- 1:15Speaker 1: it's will be how many trips to Vegas? See?
- 1:18Speaker 2: I went there for my friend's engagement and I think
- 1:22Speaker 2: I've been back one other time since then. So first
- 1:27Speaker 2: time going getting to enjoy a sporting event passed by
- 1:31Speaker 2: Leeding Stadium And unfortunately the Las Vegas Raiders will not
- 1:36Speaker 2: be playing a football game, because that would have been
- 1:38Speaker 2: fun to get to a ten. But I like Vegas.
- 1:41Speaker 2: It's a fun city with a lot of good food options.
- 1:44Speaker 1: That she's from, it's good for about three days. Yeah,
- 1:48Speaker 1: you don't want to spend a lot of time in
- 1:50Speaker 1: Vegas unless you have a lot of money to spend,
- 1:53Speaker 1: because you get past three days, like, okay, so you
- 1:55Speaker 1: go into the casino, you're going to the show. Both
- 1:58Speaker 1: cost money, you know, the buffer cost many quite a
- 2:02Speaker 1: bit unless you're a eye roller and you happen to
- 2:04Speaker 1: win a lot. You know, good on you if you do.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I heard you and Edgar going down the Blagio
- 2:08Speaker 2: and just going to be high rolling in at the
- 2:10Speaker 2: crab stable. Is that the plan?
- 2:11Speaker 1: I don't know who you would have heard that from.
- 2:13Speaker 1: That's not going to happen, you know, it's interesting you
- 2:19Speaker 1: bring that up the last time Texas played in Las Vegas.
- 2:22Speaker 1: It was four years ago and the men and women
- 2:27Speaker 1: were in a doubleheader there on Sunday in December, and
- 2:32Speaker 1: it was very strange. It was that big twelve Pac
- 2:36Speaker 1: twelve Challenge series and both were to play Stanford.
- 2:44Speaker 2: That's right, what's Stanford?
- 2:46Speaker 1: Yeah, but only the men played Stanford COVID the women. Yeah,
- 2:52Speaker 1: the Stanford women had to decline due to protocols. And
- 2:58Speaker 1: it was pretty late in the game when that came out.
- 3:00Speaker 1: In fact, I think the Texas women were already in
- 3:02Speaker 1: Las Vegas when they got word of this. So Vick
- 3:08Speaker 1: Schaeffer and his staff set about on this mad pursuit
- 3:12Speaker 1: of trying to get ahold of teams that had an
- 3:14Speaker 1: open date that might want to come to Vegas and
- 3:16Speaker 1: play them. It was fixed first year, Yes, it was so,
- 3:24Speaker 1: and so was this. There was this scramble underway. Meanwhile,
- 3:30Speaker 1: the men played Stanford, didn't handle them pretty easily won
- 3:33Speaker 1: the game. The women were still looking for an opponent
- 3:40Speaker 1: and managed to get one. The University of San Diego
- 3:44Speaker 1: came on very late notice, flew in and actually played
- 3:48Speaker 1: Texas pretty tough. I think the Long Words ended up
- 3:51Speaker 1: winning by the maybe twelve or something like that, but
- 3:53Speaker 1: but it was it wasn't a cake walk for them,
- 3:57Speaker 1: so they had those two games. The other footnote about
- 4:01Speaker 1: that deal is Eddie weren't had flown out with the
- 4:05Speaker 1: team on the charter. I did not because that was
- 4:08Speaker 1: state championship week of for high school football and I
- 4:10Speaker 1: was working the state championship games on television and then
- 4:13Speaker 1: I was gonna fly out six o'clock Sunday morning, which
- 4:16Speaker 1: I did and landed like eight something like that, eight
- 4:23Speaker 1: o'clock Pacific time. The game wasn't until I think two
- 4:28Speaker 1: in the afternoon or something, so I landed plenty of
- 4:32Speaker 1: time obviously, and was going by there and I find
- 4:34Speaker 1: out when I land from Eddie that he's tested positive.
- 4:39Speaker 1: And I felt really bad for Eddie because he was
- 4:42Speaker 1: in a tough spot because he couldn't get on the
- 4:44Speaker 1: team charter. He wasn't gonna be able to do that,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and he couldn't get on a commercial flight. He had
- 4:51Speaker 1: to rent a car and drive it all the way
- 4:55Speaker 1: back to Texas and it took him two days because
- 4:57Speaker 1: he felt so awful. He said it was a rough,
- 5:01Speaker 1: rough trip going back. So David Garrett, our producer and
- 5:06Speaker 1: also sometimes analyst and play by play guy pitched in
- 5:08Speaker 1: as the analyst on that game, and then he engineered
- 5:14Speaker 1: the women's basketball broadcast at Kathy Arson and I did,
- 5:16Speaker 1: and it was it was just kind of a strange,
- 5:18Speaker 1: bizarre forty eight hours then when that happened, and that
- 5:24Speaker 1: that was the last time I went to Vegas. I
- 5:25Speaker 1: went there five years ago, Lindon and I went out
- 5:27Speaker 1: to see Steely Dan playing in their residency at at
- 5:31Speaker 1: the Venetian. But the last time I went there was
- 5:34Speaker 1: that kind of bizarre deal. So so it'll be nice
- 5:38Speaker 1: to go out there. Hopefully things will be quite a
- 5:41Speaker 1: bit more normal. We'll find out, all right. Up next,
- 5:44Speaker 1: we're going to visit with Greg Teffer, managing editor of
- 5:46Speaker 1: Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine, to talk about college and
- 5:50Speaker 1: high school football in the lone Star State. We'll do
- 5:53Speaker 1: that coming up when we continue here on Sports Radio
- 5:56Speaker 1: AM thirteen under the Zone, where you always listen to
- 5:58Speaker 1: us for free on the IR Radio app.
