• 1:37
Speaker 2: the homecoming and what I'm gonna call alumni weekend is
• 1:44
Speaker 2: usually what they call it in the pros where they
• 1:46
Speaker 2: bring all the all the guys back. And we'll talk
• 1:48
Speaker 2: a little bit about that after we get through the
• 1:51
  Speaker 2: piece of homecoming.
• 1:53
Speaker 5: Yeah, so we got Marshall's homecoming in this Saturday, wes
• 1:56
Speaker 5: Virginia State Universities next week, and I think UC's was
• 1:59
Speaker 5: last week. So just when we talk about homecoming, you know,
• 2:04
Speaker 5: from a collegiate perspective, you know, it's a time in which,
• 2:08
Speaker 5: you know, alumni comes back. It's celebration as parties, you know.
• 2:11
Speaker 5: Obviously you know the game is the centerpiece of that.
• 2:14
Speaker 5: So from you being like a player, a coach, and
• 2:18
Speaker 5: maybe we'll go back we visit the coaching part of that,
• 2:21
Speaker 5: what was your thoughts around just like coaching around that
• 2:25
Speaker 5: sort of energy, because again, particularly when you're talking about
• 2:28
Speaker 5: like HBCU football, that's like the biggest game of the.
• 2:32
  Speaker 2: Season, regardless if there's a if there's a bigger game.
• 2:36
Speaker 2: Homecoming is the game that you want to win no
• 2:40
Speaker 2: matter what, no matter what. And in my coaching and
• 2:44
Speaker 2: my coaching tenure at at the State, and the interesting
• 2:50
Speaker 2: thing about State and as you know and most people know,
• 2:54
Speaker 2: State's homecoming has had a history of being just like
• 2:58
Speaker 2: one of the things that you didn't want to miss.
• 3:02
Speaker 2: I can remember being at Marshall and driving back home
• 3:07
Speaker 2: to come to the State's homecoming just because of just
• 3:11
Speaker 2: because of the situation and how and the atmosphere that
• 3:16
Speaker 2: you were looking for.
• 3:17
Speaker 3: You know, you didn't have that in Huntington.
• 3:19
Speaker 2: You know this was going to be this was going
• 3:21
Speaker 2: to be a ton of folks coming back, and you
• 3:24
Speaker 2: know you were going to have all kinds of parties
• 3:26
Speaker 2: and and after parties and all that kind of stuff.
• 3:30
Speaker 3: And if you were interested in that, you were coming back.
• 3:34
Speaker 2: So to me, I feel like homecoming is and especially
• 3:41
Speaker 2: at HBCU, you know, it is a historical moment every
• 3:46
Speaker 2: single year definitely, because it represents something, you know, it
• 3:54
Speaker 2: represents and and and I think everybody gets a little
• 3:57
Speaker 2: bit something out of it. Players get that you munity
• 4:00
Speaker 2: with other players, They get to kind of hang out
• 4:03
Speaker 2: with the guys. I think the campus folks who didn't
• 4:06
Speaker 2: necessarily participate in sports, they get to hang out with
• 4:09
Speaker 2: their friends and it's just one great kind of thing.
• 4:12
  Speaker 3: And I don't know if.
• 4:15
Speaker 2: I don't know if regular homecomings are as big or
• 4:19
Speaker 2: as maybe bigger just because of the number of students,
• 4:23
Speaker 2: but I don't know if they're the same as they
• 4:26
Speaker 2: are at an HBC.
• 4:27
Speaker 5: I think culturally it's sort of tied. It has a
• 4:30
Speaker 5: cultural significance. I remember, like I went to law school
• 4:34
Speaker 5: at Southern University, so it's Southern University is the only
• 4:37
Speaker 5: HBCU system in the United States where we have multiple
• 4:41
Speaker 5: colleges in multiple cities. We have our primary campuses in
• 4:44
Speaker 5: bat and Ruge. We have a campus in New Orleans,
• 4:47
Speaker 5: and we have a campus in the shreet Sport, and
• 4:48
Speaker 5: I think there's maybe one somewhere else. But I mean,
• 4:52
Speaker 5: to just see fifty thousand and seventy five thousand people
• 4:57
Speaker 5: on campus, I mean, you know, it's been there for days.
• 5:00
Speaker 5: Is cooking the crawfish, that's partying, you know, uh, you know,
• 5:04
Speaker 5: going to the game, and those are situations in which
• 5:07
Speaker 5: you just not United States, Like that's the situation where
• 5:10
Speaker 5: you go to the bathroom, get your food will during
• 5:13
Speaker 5: the second quarter, because the halftime you stay for the band.
• 5:16
Speaker 2: Right, you know what I mean.
• 5:17
Speaker 5: So it's just it's just one of those things that
• 5:22
Speaker 5: I think that are unique to college football, unique to
• 5:27
Speaker 5: you know, even high school football, to some iteration. And
• 5:29
Speaker 5: I know, like, you know, Marshall's homecoming this week, which
• 5:32
Speaker 5: I'm playing to attend, you know, And I think that's
• 5:35
Speaker 5: sort of I think the culture of HBCU homecoming is
• 5:38
Speaker 5: sort of you know, sort of migrated through just you know,
• 5:42
Speaker 5: other colleges, and I think it's more.
• 5:45
  Speaker 2: Of an emphasis.
• 5:45
Speaker 5: And in addition, you know, for the school itself, it's
• 5:48
Speaker 5: a fundraising opportunity, right because they not only they have
• 5:52
Speaker 5: to dish a lot of money out to put on
• 5:53
Speaker 5: the various programs, but you know, you have a lot
• 5:55
Speaker 5: of alumni come back. You can honor those alumni to
• 5:57
Speaker 5: give donations and so forth and so on.
• 6:00
Speaker 2: And I think, again, as as the head coach, while
• 6:05
Speaker 2: it is a great time on campus and it's it's
• 6:09
Speaker 2: a meaningful time on campus. I can remember at State
• 6:15
Speaker 2: telling everybody no, weel we yes, we used to go
• 6:20
Speaker 2: and the reason why was because some of the guys
• 6:23
Speaker 2: snuck out and come on, you know I was gonna
• 6:26
  Speaker 2: be at homecoming.
• 6:26
Speaker 3: You know, I was gonna go and check.
• 6:28
Speaker 2: I had to go check on the guys, right, So
• 6:29
Speaker 2: I see a bunch of guys that that are at homecoming.
• 6:33
Speaker 2: So that made me, Okay, we can't stay on campus
• 6:36
Speaker 2: during homecoming. But and and and and and I however
• 6:41
Speaker 2: bad that sounds. And I used to say this all
• 6:44
Speaker 2: the time. We are homecoming. We don't celebrate it. We
• 6:48
Speaker 2: are homecoming. We have to play the game, you know,
• 6:50
Speaker 2: we have to go out and try to win the game.
• 6:52
Speaker 2: We we don't have anything into the celebration. We are homecoming.
• 6:57
Speaker 2: And to me, that's the reality of it. And even
• 7:02
Speaker 2: even looking back at it now, like I still see
• 7:05
Speaker 2: it that way, Like I like, the players don't get
• 7:07
Speaker 2: the opportunity until after the game, whatever happens after the game,
• 7:11
Speaker 2: but they're gonna miss most everything all week because they're
• 7:14
Speaker 2: going to be practiced and they're gonna be in bed
• 7:16
Speaker 2: on time because it's betchet.
• 7:19
Speaker 3: So that's how I see it as a as.
• 7:22
Speaker 2: A as a coach, as a head coach, now as
• 7:25
Speaker 2: a player playing at Marshall, Yeah, yeah, there was there
• 7:29
Speaker 2: was there was some thinking like could I how could
• 7:33
Speaker 2: I get in and could I get out get back
• 7:35
Speaker 2: in without getting caught? And then as bad as I was,
• 7:39
Speaker 2: I had to deal with Sunny Sonny randall, you know,
• 7:42
Speaker 2: and so where I get all my all my.
• 7:46
Speaker 3: I guess uh punishment comes from what he did.
• 7:52
Speaker 2: So I kind of just kind of had to give
• 7:55
Speaker 2: up homecoming on the night of and just have to
• 7:58
Speaker 2: celebrate it after the game.
• 8:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, And I think you know, and again I think
• 8:02
Speaker 5: you want. I think the primary thing you will want
• 8:04
Speaker 5: the players to do is just have that interaction with
• 8:07
Speaker 5: the alumni, right, you want them to get to get
• 8:10
Speaker 5: to know alumni, whether you know you have a plan
• 8:13
Speaker 5: dinner or something like that. I think, to me, if
• 8:15
Speaker 5: I'm a coaching, I'm thinking of it more towards that way,
• 8:18
Speaker 5: like let's get to know alumni. And to your point,
• 8:20
Speaker 5: you are correct. I mean, you know, we are the
• 8:23
Speaker 5: homecoming the actual football team. So I think the primary
• 8:26
Speaker 5: things should be the game and you know, winning it,
• 8:29
Speaker 5: and then we can.
• 8:29
Speaker 2: Celebrate a Yeah, and I and I think one of
• 8:31
Speaker 2: the really simple things that we could do to your
• 8:34
Speaker 2: point that you just made, is for the alumni people
• 8:40
Speaker 2: who are coming back in there could be like a
• 8:44
Speaker 2: dinner you know, that they could come to, they could
• 8:47
Speaker 2: pay come to and players could sit around and eat
• 8:50
Speaker 2: and then they can maybe because there's there's going to
• 8:51
Speaker 2: be players that are going to be probably from their.
• 8:53
Speaker 5: Hometown, from their hometown, yes, working within their field, different
• 8:57
  Speaker 5: things that.
• 8:58
Speaker 3: So you could connect.
• 8:59
Speaker 2: I think connecting those people with those kinds of you know,
• 9:02
Speaker 2: the players with those kind of people, those kind of alumni,
• 9:05
  Speaker 2: I think that's the to me, that's something that I
• 9:08
Speaker 2: think we should take advantage of at homecoming that we don't,
• 9:12
  Speaker 2: you know, because.
• 9:13
Speaker 3: I think this is the opportunity.
• 9:14
Speaker 2: You know, we talk about wanting the alumni and and
• 9:19
Speaker 2: and when you talk alumni sometimes that's a dual word
• 9:21
Speaker 2: because you're also talking about the people who have money
• 9:24
Speaker 2: who support the school. Yes, So connecting players and those
• 9:31
Speaker 2: people to have some time to be able to sit
• 9:35
Speaker 2: around and chit chat over over dinner whatever. And I
• 9:39
Speaker 2: think that would be a great opportunity for the players.
• 9:45
Speaker 3: The network with people who are who've been successful.
• 9:48
Speaker 2: And as we know, you know, you when you're watching
• 9:53
Speaker 2: that game, you you're watching somebody's watching you play and
• 9:56
Speaker 2: they're like, man, he's a great player, you know, and
• 9:58
Speaker 2: they may never get chance to talk to you. But
• 10:01
Speaker 2: now they now in this situation, that would be something that.
• 10:04
Speaker 5: Could be possible, definitely, And I think it should be
• 10:06
Speaker 5: opportunity to connect with those Hall of famers as well,
• 10:08
Speaker 5: because you know, every homecoming, at least in State, you know,
• 10:11
Speaker 5: we do inductions to the sports Hall of Fame, so
• 10:13
Speaker 5: it should be like connections of all that. So I
• 10:15
Speaker 5: think maybe for for coaches, excuse me, for players and coaches,
• 10:18
Speaker 5: that maybe is the primary, you know, focus of the homecoming.
• 10:22
  Speaker 3: Besides, and I'm curious, I.
• 10:24
  Speaker 2: Don't and I don't remember this, but I don't know
• 10:27
Speaker 2: if the players are even part of the the induction of.
• 10:34
Speaker 5: Nah because generally, like the form the former inductions going
• 10:39
Speaker 5: at least the State's on Saturday morning, so obviously you
• 10:41
Speaker 5: get the game. Then at halftime is they'll introduce you
• 10:45
Speaker 5: to the to the crowd, so.
• 10:47
Speaker 2: See, And again I think there should be a place
• 10:50
Speaker 2: for that connection as well, you know, to me as
• 10:55
Speaker 2: a player, you as the as the inductee into the
• 10:57
Speaker 2: Hall of Fame, or or even a sponsor or a
• 11:04
Speaker 2: booster or whatever, I'd.
• 11:05
Speaker 3: Like to be able to hear from you.
• 11:08
Speaker 2: I'd like to connect with you because you might end
• 11:11
Speaker 2: up like saying, oh, you know, he's a nice young man,
• 11:12
Speaker 2: or me and a nice young man, but I would
• 11:16
Speaker 2: love to be at the Hall of Fame.
• 11:17
Speaker 3: I'd love to see and.
• 11:19
Speaker 2: Because and we're planning to go this year because I
• 11:22
Speaker 2: know coach of Moro's getting inducted, so I'll be there.
• 11:25
Speaker 3: Yes, So again, you want to see that person go.
• 11:30
Speaker 2: You know, it's important for them to see you there
• 11:34
  Speaker 2: as support.
• 11:35
  Speaker 5: And I think that's actually a great idea because I
• 11:38
Speaker 5: think for you know, not just a statement for any school,
• 11:40
Speaker 5: you could do like a like a sports Hall of
• 11:42
Speaker 5: Fame dinner where you actually take all the athletes, anybody
• 11:46
Speaker 5: who's in the going into the Hall of Famer, who's
• 11:48
Speaker 5: already in there. You know, you get a table, all
• 11:50
Speaker 5: the athletes can sit around these various Hall of famers
• 11:53
Speaker 5: and business people and different things of the like, and
• 11:55
Speaker 5: you can actually have that dinner or breakfast or lunch
• 11:57
Speaker 5: or whatever that may be. That's actually a really good idea.
• 11:59
  Speaker 3: That's something that I think.
• 12:02
Speaker 2: Ties current players to former players that you maybe even
• 12:08
Speaker 2: heard of or maybe even had never heard of. But
• 12:11
Speaker 2: you know, you know, status had some great players, some
• 12:14
Speaker 2: great coaches that these players may may never get an
• 12:18
  Speaker 2: opportunity to know.
• 12:19
Speaker 3: But if you put them in.
• 12:20
Speaker 2: A situation to get to know them, I think that
• 12:24
  Speaker 2: inspires them.
• 12:25
Speaker 3: I think to want to be you know, this is
• 12:28
Speaker 3: my goal. I want to now.
• 12:29
Speaker 2: I want to be in the Hall of Fame. I
• 12:31
Speaker 2: want to be one day sitting in front of these players,
• 12:33
Speaker 2: chit chatting with them.
• 12:34
Speaker 5: Yeah, And I think it, you know, it connects those
• 12:36
Speaker 5: generations of players. You know, you're you're obviously connected through
• 12:42
Speaker 5: you know, your time spent at this university playing this
• 12:44
Speaker 5: particular sport. So I think that's an excellent idea. And
• 12:48
  Speaker 5: I think, maybe, yeah, that's a that's a really good idea.
• 12:50
  Speaker 3: Well.
• 12:51
Speaker 2: And and so if we if we if we go
• 12:55
Speaker 2: to homecoming and we and we look at the like
• 12:59
Speaker 2: the publics or the campus's concept of what homecoming is,
• 13:06
Speaker 2: do they do you think that they have?
• 13:10
Speaker 3: Is the game the major.
• 13:12
Speaker 2: Piece of it or is it the the the activities
• 13:15
Speaker 2: during the week for them?
• 13:17
Speaker 3: I know for the players, we see.
• 13:19
Speaker 2: It as the game. As a coach, I see it
• 13:21
Speaker 2: as the game. I don't even care. As a coach,
• 13:24
  Speaker 2: I don't even care. I don't even care what y'all
• 13:27
Speaker 2: doing this week. I'm worried about my guys getting caught
• 13:29
  Speaker 2: up in that.
• 13:30
Speaker 5: Yeah, I think the game is definitely a major part,
• 13:32
Speaker 5: but I think the major part of it, you know,
• 13:34
Speaker 5: you want those alumni to come back. You want, you know,
• 13:37
Speaker 5: as a university, and I'm speaking specifically as a university,
• 13:40
Speaker 5: you want those alumni to come back, see what's new
• 13:42
Speaker 5: on campus, see what's been maintained, and hopefully donate you know, time,
• 13:46
Speaker 5: money and resources back to the campus. So I think
• 13:49
Speaker 5: that's probably the major part. And with the you know,
• 13:52
Speaker 5: obviously the game being the centerpiece, but it's not, you know,
• 13:56
Speaker 5: it's not the only part of it.
• 13:57
Speaker 2: Are you are you when you when you say alumni,
• 14:01
Speaker 2: are we are we separating or including as one former
• 14:06
Speaker 2: players from players or is that a group too, because
• 14:12
Speaker 2: a lot of times former players like to come because
• 14:14
Speaker 2: of buddies are coming, and you know.
• 14:16
Speaker 5: We're saying former players, we're talking about graduates. And to
• 14:19
Speaker 5: your point, even those business people who didn't necessar maybe
• 14:22
Speaker 5: attend the university, but have interests in the universities that have.
• 14:28
Speaker 3: Hired people from the school, hire.
• 14:29
Speaker 5: People in the school different So, like I said, it's
• 14:31
Speaker 5: an opportunity to get all those folks together. Like I said,
• 14:34
Speaker 5: it's a major network. And you mentioned something when we
• 14:37
Speaker 5: talked about this, which I didn't know about, is sort
• 14:40
Speaker 5: of a similar concept in the league alumni weekend.
• 14:42
Speaker 2: So yeah, us about that Alumni weekend is an opportunity
• 14:46
Speaker 2: for all of the all of the the alumni that
• 14:50
Speaker 2: have played, whether one year or thirty years at at
• 14:56
Speaker 2: on the team they can, they're able to come back,
• 15:01
Speaker 2: they get an opportunity to go down on the field
• 15:03
Speaker 2: at halftime, be introduced, and again, a lot of times
• 15:09
  Speaker 2: what I don't know if it's different, but it's it
• 15:12
Speaker 2: feels different when you when you leave the vikings or
• 15:15
Speaker 2: you leave a team. You know, somebody's going to this town,
• 15:18
Speaker 2: this town, this state, that state and cross country all
• 15:21
Speaker 2: that kind of stuff, and you really don't get a
• 15:22
  Speaker 2: chance to.
• 15:23
Speaker 3: Talk to them that much.
• 15:25
Speaker 2: But yet the NFL connection I think is bigger sometimes
• 15:31
Speaker 2: than the college one or high school because I mean, yeah,
• 15:35
  Speaker 2: it's a small select group.
• 15:37
  Speaker 3: And so so.
• 15:38
Speaker 5: Let me ask you that, like as far as those
• 15:40
Speaker 5: when we talk about NFL Alumni Weekend, as far as
• 15:43
Speaker 5: the individuals who are coming back to engaging that celebration,
• 15:46
Speaker 5: are we talking about players, because you know, NFL is
• 15:49
Speaker 5: a lot of movement right right, which is starting to
• 15:51
Speaker 5: look like college now. So who's coming back? Or we
• 15:55
Speaker 5: talking about those guys who play five to ten, or
• 15:56
Speaker 5: we're talking about guy maybe maybe you got drafted, played
• 16:00
Speaker 5: two or three seasons, and you off to the next team.
• 16:02
  Speaker 2: How does that work? I don't know of I don't
• 16:05
Speaker 2: know of many players who who have played at other
• 16:10
Speaker 2: teams that played with the Vikings that.
• 16:13
Speaker 3: That go anywhere else.
• 16:14
Speaker 2: Like I get I've gotten mailed from the Saints to
• 16:18
Speaker 2: for their alumni weekend. Nah, I can't. I can't see myself.
• 16:22
Speaker 2: I can't see myself going. Some of the guys that
• 16:24
Speaker 2: I met that were good friends when I was there,
• 16:27
Speaker 2: you know, I appreciate that.
• 16:28
Speaker 3: But on the other side of it, like it's you.
• 16:30
Speaker 2: Play like twelve years for the Saints with the Vikings,
• 16:34
  Speaker 2: Like yeah, yeah, So like I'm I'm I'm I'm connected
• 16:37
Speaker 2: to a lot more guys with the Vikings than I am.
• 16:41
Speaker 2: And if I could go, if I go to New
• 16:43
Speaker 2: Orleans and maybe only one guy that I played with
• 16:47
Speaker 2: is even there, I'm lost.
• 16:49
Speaker 5: So so mainly so, is it a case where most
• 16:52
Speaker 5: guys are going to participate in alumni weekend that play
• 16:55
Speaker 5: whatever team they played for the longest.
• 16:57
Speaker 3: I think so. I think so.
• 16:58
Speaker 2: And I got a buddy, Vincy Glenn, who who is dying,
• 17:02
Speaker 2: dying to get on.
• 17:04
  Speaker 3: He he and.
• 17:06
Speaker 2: I became friends while while he played with the Vikings,
• 17:10
Speaker 2: and he I think he may go to I think
• 17:17
Speaker 2: he played for two or three maybe other teams, but
• 17:21
Speaker 2: he enjoys coming to ours only though with if defensive
• 17:25
Speaker 2: bocks that he knew got to know because he was
• 17:29
Speaker 2: a defensive back. He would want to come back if
• 17:31
Speaker 2: we're coming back. If he doesn't think we're coming, then
• 17:33
Speaker 2: he's not coming. And I guess that could change.
• 17:36
Speaker 5: Like even if you want to a team for maybe
• 17:38
Speaker 5: two or three seasons, but maybe you won a Super Bowl. Yeah,
• 17:40
Speaker 5: maybe he had your best seasons there, so maybe that
• 17:43
Speaker 5: can change. That could change, that could change.
• 17:45
Speaker 2: So far as the.
• 17:46
Speaker 5: Celebration piece, you know, you're on the field, you kind
• 17:48
Speaker 5: of doing stuff with team. What is what is the
• 17:50
Speaker 5: the weekend? Look like we guys are hanging out there.
• 17:53
Speaker 5: You don't have to get in too much details.
• 17:55
Speaker 2: Well it basically it's it's you're down on the field.
• 17:58
Speaker 2: They announce you. I mean, like, are you guys hanging
• 18:01
Speaker 2: out as a party? Oh yes, yes, everybody. Everybody. There's
• 18:04
Speaker 2: not really a party, but everybody's standing in the it's
• 18:07
Speaker 2: the same hotel, everybody's eating at the same place.
• 18:11
  Speaker 3: You know.
• 18:11
Speaker 2: The Vikings are getting you to where you got to go.
• 18:13
Speaker 2: Then now when they drop you back off at the hotel,
• 18:15
Speaker 2: then that's the that's all the players trying to come
• 18:18
  Speaker 2: up with.
• 18:18
Speaker 3: Okay, where we're gonna go? What are we gonna do?
• 18:20
  Speaker 3: For the most.
• 18:21
Speaker 2: Part, it's it's a it's groups of people who played together,
• 18:27
Speaker 2: and there's there's there are younger players that come to
• 18:29
Speaker 2: alumni weekend that don't.
• 18:31
  Speaker 3: Interact with us.
• 18:32
Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, because because they don't they're younger, and
• 18:36
Speaker 2: they don't really know no know us, you know. And unfortunately,
• 18:41
Speaker 2: at least where I think with the Vikings, and I'm
• 18:43
Speaker 2: sure this is probably pretty much everywhere, I don't think
• 18:45
Speaker 2: that there's that. I don't know if the younger players
• 18:48
Speaker 2: are overly interested in like getting like, hey, hey, my
• 18:53
Speaker 2: name is this this my name is Carle. Okay, cool,
• 18:55
  Speaker 2: and I think that's enough for them. I don't think
• 18:58
Speaker 2: it is like Okay, let's go sit down and have
• 19:00
Speaker 2: her or you know, sit and talk. I don't think
• 19:02
  Speaker 2: I don't think that's I don't think that's their.
• 19:07
  Speaker 3: Their interest.
• 19:07
Speaker 2: I think they want to go out with their buddies
• 19:09
Speaker 2: and yeah, and becoming.
• 19:11
Speaker 5: A racial And the thing that I seen because I
• 19:13
Speaker 5: went to the Vikings facility this summer, and the thing
• 19:16
  Speaker 5: that I seen was again I don't I don't know
• 19:18
Speaker 5: of how they do it anywhere else, but it seemed
• 19:20
Speaker 5: like you guys really celebrate that pass and really celebrate
• 19:24
Speaker 5: those past teams. And I mean, you've seen just you know,
• 19:28
Speaker 5: image at the image of older players, and they had
• 19:31
Speaker 5: the list of the teams that started this season that
• 19:34
Speaker 5: team pictures everywhere. So it seems like you guys do
• 19:36
Speaker 5: a pretty good job of like trying to maintain that
• 19:39
Speaker 5: continuity among I would players.
• 19:41
Speaker 3: I would say that probably everybody does it at some
• 19:45
  Speaker 3: to some degree.
• 19:46
Speaker 2: I think the Vikings have really started to push that
• 19:51
Speaker 2: even more than it used to be. But let's take
• 19:53
Speaker 2: a quick break and we'll be right back and we'll
• 19:55

• 20:58
Speaker 3: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we are back and.
• 21:02
Speaker 5: Yeah, so you know, you know again homecomings. It's a
• 21:06
Speaker 5: big time to celebrate. But let's talk about a little
• 21:09
Speaker 5: something else now when we talk about the heisman, just
• 21:13
Speaker 5: before we get into it, what does the heisman mean
• 21:15
  Speaker 5: to Carley?
• 21:19
Speaker 2: To me, it represents someone who is the best player.
• 21:27
  Speaker 3: In college football.
• 21:29
Speaker 5: Okay, because as far as it content, at least the
• 21:31
Speaker 5: early contendents, we have the quarterback from Alabama. You got
• 21:35
Speaker 5: the quarterback from Miami Hurricanes. I think before we know it,
• 21:39
Speaker 5: arch Manny quarterback from Texas. He'll find his way into
• 21:42
Speaker 5: that conversation if he keeps starting and keep playing.
• 21:44
  Speaker 2: How he does.
• 21:45
Speaker 5: But you also have a guy like Travis Hunter. Now, normally,
• 21:49
Speaker 5: what's been happened at least the last probably I say
• 21:52
Speaker 5: decade or so, maybe even better, what appears to happen
• 21:56
Speaker 5: is that generally you're just taking the best player on
• 22:00
Speaker 5: the best team, not necessarily considering who's the actual best player.
• 22:06
Speaker 5: I mean, I think even when Randy Moss when he
• 22:10
Speaker 5: was you know, I think he got third or fourth
• 22:12
Speaker 5: of the year of Charleston Woodson running, it was a people
• 22:14
Speaker 5: were amazed that he even made like the top. You know,
• 22:18
Speaker 5: even though Marshall was very good. It was a smaller
• 22:20
Speaker 5: school at the time, even smaller than what it is now.
• 22:23
Speaker 5: But for him to be on there was just an
• 22:24
Speaker 5: accomplishment for him to be in the consideration. Although you know,
• 22:27
Speaker 5: he's probably the best player in college football. So When
• 22:31
Speaker 5: I look at a guy like Travis Hunter, who's playing
• 22:34
Speaker 5: one hundred and thirty snaps a game, who's getting one
• 22:36
Speaker 5: hundred plus yards receiving a game, who's get scored touchdowns,
• 22:39
Speaker 5: who locking down, who's tackling, who's breaking up passes, I
• 22:44
Speaker 5: just don't see how he's not.
• 22:47
Speaker 2: The best player in college wad.
• 22:49
Speaker 5: And I don't see how he's not going to get
• 22:51
Speaker 5: at least from some early pundits quote unquote, they're pretty
• 22:55
Speaker 5: much saying, well, they're kind of just casting him off already.
• 22:58
Speaker 3: Okay, so let me ask this question.
• 23:00
Speaker 2: Okay, tell me what your thoughts were around Randy Moss.
• 23:07
Speaker 2: Randy Moss and his opportunity to to be to win.
• 23:11
Speaker 5: That Covenant Prize. I mean, to me, he was the
• 23:15
Speaker 5: best player in college football. But I'll say this for
• 23:18
Speaker 5: that year Charleston Charles Woodson winning, who was a safety,
• 23:21
Speaker 5: but and he also played receiver Michigan. I don't know
• 23:23
Speaker 5: if they won a national chamber. They won the Rose
• 23:25
Speaker 5: Bowl kind of when the bowls were still you know,
• 23:28
Speaker 5: meaning something. So he played for a big time program.
• 23:30
Speaker 5: He was playing defense, he's playing offense, although not a
• 23:33
Speaker 5: full time offensive player. He was coming in he was
• 23:37
Speaker 5: coming out, he wasn't playing, he wasn't doing what Travis
• 23:40
Speaker 5: Hunter's doing. So I think in my mind I could
• 23:43
Speaker 5: justify him winning. I mean, you also had Peyton Manny,
• 23:46
Speaker 5: who was you know, a very very you know, Hall
• 23:48
Speaker 5: of Fame quarterback. So in my mind I could justify
• 23:51
Speaker 5: Charles Woodson winning it that year just because the level
• 23:54
Speaker 5: of the programmer he's playing with, and he's playing offense
• 23:57
Speaker 5: and defense and he's doing very well in both.
• 24:00
  Speaker 3: Okay.
• 24:00
Speaker 5: So although I thought mart Raindy Moss was the best player.
• 24:03
Speaker 2: Right, Okay, So then the question becomes, is the Heisman
• 24:06
Speaker 2: for the best player or do you got to do
• 24:11
Speaker 2: some other things in order for you to Because normally, normally,
• 24:15
Speaker 2: for in most cases, the great quarterback is going to
• 24:18
  Speaker 2: get the Heisman?
• 24:19
Speaker 3: Which, right? Which is which? Which?
• 24:21
Speaker 2: Okay, he might have a great receiver, might even have
• 24:23
Speaker 2: a great lineman. You know, it might just be a
• 24:26
Speaker 2: good player on the best on the best team.
• 24:28
  Speaker 3: Right.
• 24:29
  Speaker 2: So for me, I don't see how, I don't know
• 24:35
Speaker 2: how you don't see Randy Moss as the number one
• 24:40
  Speaker 2: player in the.
• 24:43
  Speaker 3: In college football.
• 24:45
Speaker 2: I don't care where he played, right, he could have
• 24:47
Speaker 2: played the State you know what I'm saying he's the
• 24:50
  Speaker 2: best player.
• 24:52
Speaker 3: Period and and he shows it. He showed it in
• 24:59
  Speaker 3: the league.
• 25:00
Speaker 2: Yeah, and but I mean, but you can't look at
• 25:04
Speaker 2: the league though. We can't take that in there.
• 25:06
Speaker 3: See, here's my thing.
• 25:07
Speaker 2: You can't take that into it.
• 25:08
  Speaker 3: Here's what I think.
• 25:09
Speaker 2: Okay, So if you're a Heisman Trophy winner, h so
• 25:15
Speaker 2: you're the best player in college football, you got to
• 25:18
Speaker 2: be something in the pros. No, you don't. That's I know,
• 25:22
Speaker 2: that's not considered. That's not considered just maybe good. No,
• 25:26
Speaker 2: not really. You just may be a good college football player.
• 25:29
  Speaker 2: And that's where it stands. I see, I can't it's
• 25:33
Speaker 2: hard for me to even and I and I totally
• 25:35
  Speaker 2: understand it.
• 25:36
Speaker 3: It's what you did, what what they what you.
• 25:39
Speaker 2: Did for me in the moment, right being the greatest
• 25:43
Speaker 2: league guess college football player, not the best I understand,
• 25:46
Speaker 2: because you can't like a guy like Tim Tebow, he's
• 25:48
Speaker 2: never going to be like a great NFL quarterback just
• 25:51
Speaker 2: because of a variety of issues. But a college quarterback,
• 25:54
Speaker 2: he's going to be greatest of all time. And that's
• 25:56
Speaker 2: what you got to count.
• 25:57
Speaker 5: And just and just to clarify, far as the the
• 26:00
Speaker 5: Heisman odds as I'm seeing it now, you got Jalen
• 26:03
Speaker 5: Milroy Alabama. You got cam Ward Miami, and this is
• 26:07
Speaker 5: in order. You got Travis Hunter Colorado, you got asked
• 26:11
Speaker 5: in uh gente boozy Boise State, and you got Dylan
• 26:16
  Speaker 5: Gabriel Oregon.
• 26:17
Speaker 3: Okay, that's your order.
• 26:18
Speaker 2: Okay, so let me ask this question of that, but
• 26:20
Speaker 2: it back from Tennessee as well of that of that class,
• 26:25
Speaker 2: who is the okay because because you said best player, right,
• 26:28
Speaker 2: I'm saying best player. Okay, all right, so who is
• 26:31
Speaker 2: the actual best player in that group?
• 26:34
  Speaker 3: And and.
• 26:36
Speaker 2: I'm gonna make the I'm gonna make the case if
• 26:40
Speaker 2: you're playing offense and defense as well on both sides
• 26:44
Speaker 2: of the ball, and playing full time and playing full
• 26:46
Speaker 2: time like you're not.
• 26:47
Speaker 3: Coming off the field. But that ain't that's that order
• 26:50
Speaker 3: right there is already wrong.
• 26:52
  Speaker 2: And that's what I think I mean, because that's the
• 26:54
Speaker 2: and the thing is.
• 26:55
Speaker 5: Like you just said, and I think the points you're
• 26:56
Speaker 5: saying is like you're playing well on both sides of
• 26:58
Speaker 5: the ball. You're not just like out there, No, you
• 27:01
Speaker 5: know what I'm saying, You're actually contributing. Now I guess
• 27:03
Speaker 5: again the caveat and the sort of the argument to
• 27:06
Speaker 5: that would be, well, he's playing at Colorado, They're probably
• 27:09
Speaker 5: gonna end up losing maybe two or three games.
• 27:12
  Speaker 2: And you're playing.
• 27:13
Speaker 5: Versu a guy like you know, the quarterback from Alabama
• 27:17
Speaker 5: who's playing out Alabama. You're gonna play Gege, You're gonna
• 27:19
Speaker 5: play l U. So you're playing the top level teams.
• 27:21
Speaker 5: Jayalen Milroy's playing a top level team and you're and
• 27:24
Speaker 5: you're I mean, for example, what he did, uh the
• 27:27
Speaker 5: game he had against Georgia last week, just dominant.
• 27:29
Speaker 2: Okay, So now what you're saying, Okay, I'm just saying.
• 27:32
Speaker 2: I'm not I'm not I'm not tagging you on it,
• 27:35
Speaker 2: but I'm just saying from what you what you stated.
• 27:38
Speaker 3: So not only do you now have to you you
• 27:43
Speaker 3: have to be at.
• 27:44
Speaker 2: A at a school that plays other schools who have
• 27:50
Speaker 2: other higher level of quote talent in order for you
• 27:55
Speaker 2: to even have a shot. I mean, that's the sin.
• 27:59
Speaker 5: And I think the other problem with that is that
• 28:02
Speaker 5: as a committee number one, I don't like sports writers
• 28:05
Speaker 5: and players and all this stuff just having you know,
• 28:08
Speaker 5: just having these random votes out there right because you're
• 28:11
Speaker 5: not watching every single game. There needs to be a committee,
• 28:15
Speaker 5: a scientist where you're watching every game and you're actually
• 28:20
Speaker 5: seeing who is the best out there, because you're not,
• 28:22
Speaker 5: you know, the person who watches the whole all SEC games.
• 28:26
Speaker 5: You may check out Travis Hunter one or two times
• 28:29
Speaker 5: in totality, because you know, for me to get the
• 28:32
Speaker 5: highlights or for me to read the cliff notes, it's
• 28:34
Speaker 5: different for me to actually watch the game and have
• 28:36
Speaker 5: an analytical perspective of how they performed in different scenarios.
• 28:39
Speaker 2: All Right, so I'm gonna probably say something that I
• 28:42
Speaker 2: probably shouldn't say. All right, Right, My issue would whether
• 28:48
Speaker 2: it be media or a closed group that you don't
• 28:54
Speaker 2: know who are making these decisions. Okay. My problem with
• 28:57
Speaker 2: that is is, Okay, first of all, you can't judge
• 29:02
Speaker 2: if you didn't play.
• 29:04
Speaker 3: You know, if you're an English major and you didn't
• 29:08
Speaker 3: play ball, how can you how? How? Because all you
• 29:13
Speaker 3: got is what you see?
• 29:14
Speaker 5: I mean, but that's all that counts, right, Okay, Just
• 29:17
Speaker 5: because a ball player doesn't mean that you can't have
• 29:19
Speaker 5: a perspective and be very detailed.
• 29:22
Speaker 3: You could be you could be a great coach. You
• 29:24
Speaker 3: could be a great coach.
• 29:24
Speaker 2: And I'm not saying you can't be a good you
• 29:26
Speaker 2: could you can't be a bad right, don't you have
• 29:28
Speaker 2: to be a bad writer? But but you's of talent
• 29:33
Speaker 2: and what's you can do that even though you made
• 29:36
Speaker 2: it just means what do you?
• 29:36
Speaker 3: What do you? Okay?
• 29:37
Speaker 2: So so if if, how do you how do you
• 29:41
Speaker 2: judge Darryl Green and and and and uh Deon Sanders?
• 29:45
Speaker 3: How how do you judge?
• 29:47
Speaker 2: Like when you look at those two athletes, both of
• 29:50
Speaker 2: them was in the both of them could do any
• 29:53
  Speaker 2: and everything.
• 29:54
Speaker 5: But I don't think you have to be a player,
• 29:56
  Speaker 5: Like I don't have to be I didn't say a player, Okay,
• 29:58
  Speaker 5: I don't have to be a cornerback a player to
• 30:00
Speaker 5: actually do that. I think that what you can do
• 30:02
Speaker 5: if you studied the position, if you really did your homework,
• 30:06
Speaker 5: you could do. I think you can form an analysis
• 30:08
Speaker 5: based off of whatever factors are available to you. So
• 30:12
Speaker 5: I don't think you have okay, So okay, So although
• 30:16
Speaker 5: it helps that you are playing, you actually played again and.
• 30:18
Speaker 2: Again I'm not saying I'm not necessarily saying the player,
• 30:21
Speaker 2: but I'm saying I'll take coaches, I'll take anybody. So
• 30:27
Speaker 2: I'm saying you have to be you have to be
• 30:29
Speaker 2: in the game. So I think that some some whether
• 30:32
Speaker 2: it's coaches, whether it's oh, are you talking about like
• 30:35
Speaker 2: current coaches ought to be choosing it? Yes, or you
• 30:38
Speaker 2: don't have time to watch all of it.
• 30:40
Speaker 3: You know you're no, you're gonna.
• 30:41
Speaker 2: See film if they're in your division, if nothing else,
• 30:44
Speaker 2: if they're in your division. So okay, so some time
• 30:47
Speaker 2: to do all that. So who's So who's got time?
• 30:50
  Speaker 2: Who's I'm saying, you form a committee, okay, But I'm
• 30:53
Speaker 2: just saying, currently, what we the system that we have
• 30:55
Speaker 2: now is sports writers and players. It's a whole bunch
• 30:58
  Speaker 2: of it.
• 30:58
Speaker 3: And who who's watching everything? Who's watching all of it?
• 31:01
  Speaker 3: To make that?
• 31:02
Speaker 5: Say nobody? And I'm saying this is what it should be.
• 31:04
Speaker 5: I'm saying, you take whatever conference are, to take power five,
• 31:07
Speaker 5: power for whatever it is. You take a number of
• 31:09
Speaker 5: each body. You have a body that represents each conference,
• 31:12
Speaker 5: and y'all say, y'all gonna watch these games, and y'all
• 31:14
Speaker 5: gonna come up with week to week votes and decisions
• 31:17
Speaker 5: you're gonna have. You're gonna issue a report weekly about this.
• 31:20
Speaker 5: So every Monday, every Monday, we're giving you.
• 31:22
Speaker 2: Okay, these are the top and you gotta watch it.
• 31:26
Speaker 2: You gotta watch this. We are sign you gotta watch
• 31:28
Speaker 2: these games. You come together, but you're gonna get, You're
• 31:30
Speaker 2: gonna get. You're gonna get down to five to ten players.
• 31:34
Speaker 2: And I'm saying I do it.
• 31:36
Speaker 5: You do it for the top twenty five, and you
• 31:38
Speaker 5: just go ahead and filter that end through and do
• 31:40
Speaker 5: the Heisman and awards that way as well. Because to me,
• 31:43
  Speaker 5: it's like, if I'm just a sports writer and I
• 31:46
Speaker 5: work at you know, I'm working Big twelve and I'm
• 31:48
Speaker 5: in West Virginia, the majority of my time is gonna
• 31:51
Speaker 5: be spent watching West Virginia and whoever West Virginia plays.
• 31:54
Speaker 5: So you may as a job, you may not ever
• 31:56
Speaker 5: watch Colorado's just because that's yours. Your job is to,
• 32:00
Speaker 5: you know, cover the Big twelve and cover specifically West Virginia. Right,
• 32:03
Speaker 5: So it has to be somebody or a group of
• 32:05
Speaker 5: individuals however it's represented to take this task on. Yeah,
• 32:10
  Speaker 5: And because I don't like where they're going, I don't
• 32:13
Speaker 5: I don't like where it is.
• 32:14
  Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think that it's I don't think that
• 32:16
Speaker 2: it and I'm going to phrase it this way. I
• 32:19
  Speaker 2: don't think that it's that it's unfair. I just think
• 32:23
  Speaker 2: that it's unaware. That's actually a really that's actually a
• 32:26
  Speaker 2: really good point.
• 32:27
  Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think that. I don't think anybody's trying
• 32:29
  Speaker 3: to be unfair.
• 32:31
Speaker 2: I just think they're just unaware of because again, when
• 32:34
Speaker 2: you think, you know, when you start thinking about the
• 32:37
Speaker 2: top ten college football teams in the country, how many
• 32:43
Speaker 2: of those players that are outside of that top ten
• 32:47
Speaker 2: might be great players. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. You know,
• 32:49
Speaker 2: I'm saying saying that you're saying, well, okay, yeah, we're
• 32:52
Speaker 2: hearing about him, and we're you know, we think he's good.
• 32:54
Speaker 2: But I think they do they just take the top ten,
• 32:57
Speaker 2: top fifteen teams and say who's the best. He's gotta
• 33:00
Speaker 2: come for that team. It's gotta come from Alabama. Yeah,
• 33:02
Speaker 2: but it might not.
• 33:03
Speaker 5: You know, there's a lot of times where even in Alabama,
• 33:05
  Speaker 5: and I love Dereck Henry. I think he's a great
• 33:07
Speaker 5: Hall of Fame running back. You've been at the NFL level,
• 33:09
Speaker 5: But for that season, Christian McCaffrey was the best player
• 33:12
Speaker 5: in college football. He was receiving, he was punned, he
• 33:15
  Speaker 5: was and.
• 33:17
Speaker 2: How many times do we get to this time of
• 33:19
Speaker 2: the year and those selections happen and we're mad, yeah,
• 33:24
Speaker 2: because we're like, what what about this guy?
• 33:27
Speaker 3: And and and you know how it's.
• 33:28
Speaker 2: Get it gets written off by well, you know, it's
• 33:31
Speaker 2: tough decisions. You know, it's you know, these guys are
• 33:33
Speaker 2: making really really tough decisions.
• 33:35
Speaker 3: Then you need to do more.
• 33:36
Speaker 2: You need to do more.
• 33:37
Speaker 3: You can't just randomly just.
• 33:39
Speaker 2: Think just because this guy is he's getting the most
• 33:42
Speaker 2: attention on TV. Well, if you if you're in Alabama
• 33:45
Speaker 2: and you're playing, and especially when you had Nick saban
• 33:48
Speaker 2: On walking on the sideline, Bro, you're gonna get some attention.
• 33:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, you're gonna get Every game is coming, Notre Dame,
• 33:53
Speaker 5: every game is covered. So I just think you ought
• 33:55
Speaker 5: to have to me have a committee.
• 33:57
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
• 33:58
Speaker 5: It's specifically like or what the commedian that you have
• 34:01
Speaker 5: now that does the playoffs? They need to not only
• 34:03
Speaker 5: be doing the playoffs, they need to be doing the rankings,
• 34:05
Speaker 5: which I think they do, but I also need to
• 34:06
Speaker 5: be doing no awards.
• 34:07
  Speaker 2: Because I don't know how anybody Okay, I don't know
• 34:12
Speaker 2: how anybody could watch Randy Moss and and him not
• 34:18
Speaker 2: pick up every single possible award that could be offered
• 34:22
  Speaker 2: to a college.
• 34:23
Speaker 5: I think they're looking at it, well, they're playing max
• 34:25
Speaker 5: schools or they're playing these schools, so they're not necessarily
• 34:28
Speaker 5: honed in specifically on the talent itself. They're looking at
• 34:32
Speaker 5: all what could he do this against Florida.
• 34:34
Speaker 2: Cit here If I were on that if I was
• 34:38
Speaker 2: trying to make that boat, and I am who exactly
• 34:40
Speaker 2: who I am? Now, this would be my this would
• 34:43
Speaker 2: be my process. Okay, all right, let me think of
• 34:45
Speaker 2: how how would I color him? Okay, so, okay, So
• 34:49
Speaker 2: I'm a bump and run guy. So my first problem
• 34:52
Speaker 2: is he's taller than me, He's faster than me, he
• 34:58
Speaker 2: can jump higher than me, and so and and this
• 35:03
Speaker 2: is how I assess, you know, who's the best wide receiver.
• 35:07
Speaker 2: I'm faster than Jerry Rice. Believe it or not, I'm
• 35:10
Speaker 2: faster than him. He didn't He don't scare me. He
• 35:12
Speaker 2: didn't scare me. Randy would scare me because you know what,
• 35:15
Speaker 2: even if I could catch him, even if I was
• 35:18
Speaker 2: at his body, he he's got six inches of jumping
• 35:21
Speaker 2: on me plus four inches hype wise, So how do
• 35:26
Speaker 2: you cover that guy?
• 35:27
Speaker 5: But I but I again, that might be the way
• 35:30
Speaker 5: you were processing, but I think other people are not
• 35:32
Speaker 5: looking at it like so introspectively. They're looking at it
• 35:35
Speaker 5: from a standpoint of just saying, Okay, he's a great player,
• 35:38
Speaker 5: but he's playing against them, you know what I'm saying.
• 35:40
  Speaker 5: And I think that's the way they're.
• 35:42
Speaker 2: Okay, But okay, so let me ask this question because
• 35:44
Speaker 2: because I'm feeling a certain kind of way here, okay, so, uh.
• 35:50
Speaker 3: So is my way you think my way is wrong
• 35:54
  Speaker 3: or or.
• 35:55
  Speaker 5: I don't think it's wrong because that's the way you're
• 35:58
Speaker 5: processing it. But I think you you can't look at
• 36:01
Speaker 5: every position like that because you're not looking at an
• 36:03
Speaker 5: offensive lineman or a defensive linement position right like that,
• 36:05
Speaker 5: right because you didn't play those positions. You're not thinking
• 36:07
Speaker 5: about how would I how would I guard him? How
• 36:09
Speaker 5: would attack him? Now again, you may think from a
• 36:11
Speaker 5: coaching perspective, like, okay, we got this great defensive a
• 36:15
Speaker 5: dominicance sue when he was at I think Wisconsin or Nebraska.
• 36:18
Speaker 5: You may think, dang, what what?
• 36:20
  Speaker 3: How?
• 36:20
Speaker 5: How could I stop him? What could I do to
• 36:23
Speaker 5: to to to neutralize him? So you may think at
• 36:25
Speaker 5: him from that perspective, could we run this, or could
• 36:27
Speaker 5: we do this, or maybe we got a double triple team.
• 36:30
Speaker 2: You see, I think, I think, I think at any point,
• 36:33
Speaker 2: I think, at any point, at any position, coaching or whatever,
• 36:36
Speaker 2: I think. The issue with somebody like Randy, which to
• 36:39
Speaker 2: me makes it so clear, is okay, if.
• 36:45
Speaker 3: Who could who could cover him?
• 36:47
  Speaker 2: Yeah?
• 36:47
Speaker 5: But that again, but but again, if I'm not a
• 36:51
Speaker 5: football player, if I'm not a coach, if i'm media, right,
• 36:54
Speaker 5: I'm not looking at it necessarily like that. I'm looking
• 36:57
Speaker 5: at it like, Okay, the guys in the MAC can
• 37:00
Speaker 5: cover him. This ain't me, I know better, But somebody
• 37:04
Speaker 5: else may look at it like, Okay, the guys in
• 37:06
Speaker 5: the MAN can't cover him, But I wonder if the
• 37:08
Speaker 5: guy's in the SEC could cover him and he don't
• 37:10
Speaker 5: play them, so then so for that reason, that's a
• 37:14
  Speaker 5: demo or that's a demerit, that's a knock. You see
• 37:17
Speaker 5: what I'm saying, the way their process Yeah, I toldly,
• 37:20
Speaker 5: not from like a player, not processing from a scheming perspective.
• 37:24
Speaker 5: I told looking at this this verse that I totally
• 37:27
Speaker 5: which which don't really add up once you understand the
• 37:32
Speaker 5: scheming and just the man on man process, because if
• 37:35
Speaker 5: you understand that process, you don't you understand it. It doesn't
• 37:38
Speaker 5: matter if it was SEC. Heck, it didn't matter if
• 37:41
  Speaker 5: it was NFL.
• 37:42
Speaker 2: It don't matter. He made everybody. Everybody he most quote
• 37:46
Speaker 2: unquote everybody everybody. Yeah so yeah, so I I don't know, man,
• 37:50
Speaker 2: I just those kinds of teams, you know, I know,
• 37:55
Speaker 2: I know as a kid, you know, wanting to make
• 37:57
Speaker 2: all conference and all this and all that and all that.
• 37:59
Speaker 2: I can remember wanting to make all that and then
• 38:01
Speaker 2: even getting into the pros. I was so excited after,
• 38:04
Speaker 2: you know, making you know, going to the Pro Bowl
• 38:07
Speaker 2: all blah blah blah blah. But on the other side
• 38:10
Speaker 2: of it, you know, as time has gone on, you know,
• 38:15
Speaker 2: and I and I sit now and I stood and.
• 38:17
Speaker 3: Watched kind of like somebody.
• 38:20
Speaker 2: I'm thinking, like it's really good, and I'm like like,
• 38:22
Speaker 2: and you know, like what's going on?
• 38:23
Speaker 3: Like what like how does that not happen? Like why
• 38:25
Speaker 3: is that person not getting this award it? Why is
• 38:27
Speaker 3: this guy not getting the high? Why is he not
• 38:29
  Speaker 3: getting that?
• 38:30
Speaker 2: And and the amazing piece to me though, and and
• 38:36
Speaker 2: I'm curious of what you say to this. And we're
• 38:38
Speaker 2: pretty much got to wrap it up here, But how
• 38:41
Speaker 2: does like, why is it that we don't know who
• 38:45
  Speaker 2: does this voting?
• 38:47
  Speaker 5: I don't know, man, it's too spread out. It's like
• 38:49
Speaker 5: I said, I think we got to ring that back
• 38:51
Speaker 5: in again. It's just another part with it. N C
• 38:54
Speaker 5: double A just fails. I think a lot of times
• 38:57
Speaker 5: they end up just getting it right because it's obvious.
• 38:59
Speaker 5: But for years like this where it ain't so obvious
• 39:02
Speaker 5: who the best player is, where it's really kind of
• 39:04
Speaker 5: even like the Marshall Falks. You know Toretta year right, Yeah,
• 39:07
Speaker 5: you know, Toretta was a good quarterback on the one
• 39:09
Speaker 5: of the greatest team ever. But Marshall Funk was the
• 39:11
Speaker 5: best player. So it's like stuff like this is it
• 39:14
Speaker 5: And before we wrap up, you went to Alaska. Tell
• 39:18
Speaker 5: us a little tell us a little bit about that
• 39:20
Speaker 5: trip before you go.
• 39:21
Speaker 2: All right, So it was the most amazing And I'll
• 39:24
Speaker 2: probably try to post some pictures here because I've got
• 39:26
Speaker 2: a bunch of really cool pictures that that we took.
• 39:30
Speaker 3: It was great, man, it was. It was.
• 39:32
Speaker 2: It was chilly, it was in the forties and and
• 39:34
Speaker 2: all that, but but it was still it was actually
• 39:37
Speaker 2: still comfortable. You know had been been in Minnesota before.
• 39:40
Speaker 2: It was still kind of now was it daytime? They're
• 39:43
  Speaker 2: all all night?
• 39:44
Speaker 3: It was it? No, it was, it was.
• 39:46
  Speaker 2: It was.
• 39:46
Speaker 3: It was night and day long day. It was a
• 39:49
Speaker 3: pretty much long day.
• 39:50
Speaker 2: But man, just to have opportunities to walk on some
• 39:54
Speaker 2: of these like mountains and and up and down, up
• 40:00
Speaker 2: and down and seeing the beautiful scenery it was. And
• 40:03
Speaker 2: I'd always wanted to go, and I just never thought
• 40:06
Speaker 2: I would ever. I would never thought to buy a
• 40:08
Speaker 2: ticket and go. But in this situation, I got an
• 40:10
Speaker 2: opportunity to go with a bunch of guys, John Randall,
• 40:13
Speaker 2: Henry Thomas, Tommy Kramer, and Buddy Becker, and uh, he
• 40:18
Speaker 2: put the vent on force and it was it was.
• 40:21
Speaker 2: It was great and we just got a chance to
• 40:23
Speaker 2: We went downtown Anchorage. It just looks like a regular
• 40:26
Speaker 2: town like anybody, you know, like anywhere else you'd go.
• 40:28
Speaker 2: But man, when you got on the outer side of it,
• 40:31
Speaker 2: it was just absolutely gorgeous.
• 40:33
Speaker 3: Man, And I would right, oh gosh.
• 40:37
Speaker 2: We had a lot of a lot of a lot
• 40:40
Speaker 2: of uh actually a lot of biking fans and just
• 40:43
Speaker 2: a few that wore their jerseys to some of the
• 40:46
Speaker 2: events that we went to where they were packer stuff
• 40:49
Speaker 2: and one of them was a was a was a
• 40:51
Speaker 2: sterling sharp fan too, so so we had a we
• 40:55
Speaker 2: had a few confrontations about that kind of stuff, but man,
• 40:58
  Speaker 2: it was.
• 40:58
Speaker 3: It was great. And if you were one of those
• 41:00
Speaker 3: people who would like to go or want to go, go, man,
• 41:04
Speaker 3: go you will. You will absolutely enjoy it. I promise
• 41:07
Speaker 3: you that nice. All right, well, let me give one.
