- 0:00Speaker 1: And now Move the Sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
- 0:07Speaker 2: What's up, everybody, Welcome to Move the Sticks. It's d
- 0:09Speaker 2: J buck in a very happy ret. I don't know
- 0:11Speaker 2: why he's smiling so much. He's he's fired up to
- 0:14Speaker 2: be here.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Guys might be here, you know, just uh excited. Got
- 0:19Speaker 1: to hang out with Bucky on Sunday for NFL Live
- 0:24Speaker 1: for Remember we used to have the old Move the
- 0:27Speaker 1: Sticks team on Game Day Live.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Yeah, while didn't get the complimentary peaces that we used
- 0:32Speaker 3: to get on that show.
- 0:33Speaker 4: I just had to sit up in here and.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Oh man, they used to Man, that was big.
- 0:39Speaker 4: That was big.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Well, I think none of them because Lionel is no
- 0:42Speaker 1: longer with us to bring the pizzas out and he
- 0:46Speaker 1: slipped one pan pizzas took a tumble.
- 0:52Speaker 2: That was unfortunate. That was That was a great effort,
- 0:56Speaker 2: but it was tough. We're going to get into these games.
- 0:59Speaker 2: We always pull out eight games. We dig dig into
- 1:02Speaker 2: those a little deeper and then we'll have some comments
- 1:04Speaker 2: on some of the other ones. At the end, it
- 1:07Speaker 2: was a man, it was a short night here. I
- 1:09Speaker 2: can't complain because I've got rhet who's going back and
- 1:12Speaker 2: forth to Indiana and doing big ten games every single week.
- 1:15Speaker 4: A lot of travel there.
- 1:16Speaker 2: I've got Bunk who's done two international trips where he
- 1:19Speaker 2: decided that he needed to come home in between those.
- 1:22Speaker 2: So I'm not going to complain about the early am
- 1:27Speaker 2: arrival after the afternoon game became the city. But it
- 1:29Speaker 2: was a It was a long day, not only from
- 1:32Speaker 2: a travel standpoint, but a long day for the Chargers.
- 1:34Speaker 2: They lose thirty one to seventeen to the Chiefs, the
- 1:37Speaker 2: rare two score game for the Chargers. You don't see
- 1:41Speaker 2: many of those. Those are like a bigfoot, you know,
- 1:43Speaker 2: it usually comes down.
- 1:46Speaker 4: I was like a game out there.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it was weird, but again you had it was
- 1:51Speaker 2: really a one score game down to the very end
- 1:53Speaker 2: till a punt return by the Chiefs by Mikole Hardman
- 1:56Speaker 2: put them in position to make a two score game late.
- 1:58Speaker 2: But there's a lot to get to with this. I
- 2:03Speaker 2: will look at it. I'll look at it from the
- 2:05Speaker 2: Charger side of things, and I'll start just kind of
- 2:08Speaker 2: the tail of two halves. Man, you had an offense
- 2:11Speaker 2: that was up and down the field in the first half.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Feeling good about it, in the defense was terrible. In
- 2:17Speaker 2: the second half. You had a defense that made some
- 2:19Speaker 2: I thought some pretty obvious adjustments that needed to be made,
- 2:23Speaker 2: I e. Playing for the man coverage, yeah, and given
- 2:27Speaker 2: Derwin James a chance to match up well with Travis Kelce.
- 2:30Speaker 2: And then so the defense gets better than offense. Can't
- 2:33Speaker 2: move the ball. They had favorable field position off of
- 2:36Speaker 2: some defensive stops, could not do anything with it. So
- 2:40Speaker 2: just kind of an unconnected game. But I want to
- 2:43Speaker 2: talk about the defense and Buck, I want to get
- 2:44Speaker 2: to you on this one. I'm trying to look at
- 2:50Speaker 2: this thing and try and make sense of it. And
- 2:52Speaker 2: one of the things that's frustrating calling the Charger games
- 2:54Speaker 2: every week is I feel like, man, they get hit
- 2:57Speaker 2: with the right hand a lot. Like when you're going
- 3:01Speaker 2: to play the Miami Dolphins, your attention probably should be
- 3:04Speaker 2: on Tyreek Hill and trying to take him away he
- 3:05Speaker 2: goes over two hundred yards. When you're playing the Dallas Cowboys,
- 3:10Speaker 2: you let Ceedee Lamb get loose. Micah Parsons is where
- 3:13Speaker 2: you should focus your attention. Like, Hey, anybody else beats us,
- 3:15Speaker 2: but Michah Parsons has the two big rushes at the
- 3:18Speaker 2: end of the game that end up stealing the game.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Max Crosby, even in a win, I think had two
- 3:21Speaker 2: sacks against him. Justin Jefferson goes for one hundred and
- 3:24Speaker 2: fifty yards, including big plays Like I feel like if
- 3:27Speaker 2: you go into that game yesterday and sky Moore has
- 3:30Speaker 2: one hundred and thirty yards.
- 3:32Speaker 4: And he beats you, he beats you. You live with that.
- 3:35Speaker 2: But to come out and play so much his own coverage,
- 3:37Speaker 2: to come out and give free access to Kelsey and
- 3:40Speaker 2: then I mean, I freeze the picture I sent you guys,
- 3:44Speaker 2: some of the screen grabs when you freeze it on
- 3:47Speaker 2: third down, which is when he should be getting attention
- 3:49Speaker 2: every down he's on the field. But on third down
- 3:52Speaker 2: there's nobody within ten yards of him in the middle
- 3:54Speaker 2: of the field. He's running spot routes. There's no magic
- 3:56Speaker 2: to it. He's run spot routes. There's nobody assigned to him.
- 3:59Speaker 2: And I just think, Man, after a game, you get
- 4:01Speaker 2: on the plane and fly home, Buck and you go,
- 4:02Speaker 2: you know what, man, we hey last year in a game,
- 4:06Speaker 2: Derwin James matched up with him, he beat him and
- 4:08Speaker 2: got a touchdown late, and I sleep, I would sleep fine.
- 4:11Speaker 2: You know what we put our best on their best.
- 4:13Speaker 2: He got us, but to just give free access, that
- 4:15Speaker 2: doesn't make any sense to me.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Yeah, you know it's funny. Right.
- 4:19Speaker 3: So we're in the midst of this period where everyone
- 4:22Speaker 3: is kind of taking shots at Bill Belichick. But the
- 4:24Speaker 3: one thing that we are respect about Belichick is his
- 4:26Speaker 3: ability to make the opponent play left handed. And we've
- 4:29Speaker 3: seen him use basically the pub return coverage where he'll
- 4:33Speaker 3: vice up a marque player to make sure that, hey,
- 4:36Speaker 3: this guy's not in play, he's done any critical downs.
- 4:39Speaker 3: He's the master of double coverage tactics. He will not
- 4:43Speaker 3: if he can control it. He's not going to allow
- 4:45Speaker 3: your best player to have a big day. And a
- 4:48Speaker 3: lot of coaches are reluctant to kind of sell out
- 4:52Speaker 3: or kind of revamp what they normally do to take
- 4:55Speaker 3: that player away.
- 4:56Speaker 4: And I understand, Hey, we're just going to do what
- 4:59Speaker 4: we do and.
- 4:59Speaker 3: How that's been successful for some But I guess the
- 5:02Speaker 3: Kansas City the Chiefs to me this year, in particular,
- 5:05Speaker 3: when Travis Kelce is the main event, Gosh, you gotta
- 5:10Speaker 3: let MVS or somebody else beach. You can't let him
- 5:13Speaker 3: have not only have twelve kids, but he can't go
- 5:15Speaker 3: over one hundred yards in the first half. Like, it
- 5:17Speaker 3: has to be something where you try to take away
- 5:20Speaker 3: something to make them uncomfortable, make them go farther down
- 5:24Speaker 3: the place. She don't let them just stop it at
- 5:26Speaker 3: segment A. Make them at least get the B or C.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Let me let me ask you this quick follow up,
- 5:32Speaker 2: why would you not just play two man against that
- 5:34Speaker 2: team and say if they if and challenge Andy Reid
- 5:37Speaker 2: to be patient with Isaiah Pacheco and say, you know,
- 5:40Speaker 2: if they want to Pacheco to run the ball thirty times,
- 5:42Speaker 2: then we'll take our chances. You know, we're gonna play
- 5:44Speaker 2: two man and we're just gonna say, okay, that's because
- 5:46Speaker 2: that is like fuck just from a seven on seven
- 5:48Speaker 2: culture standpoint, like that's the best. If your playing team's
- 5:51Speaker 2: gonna throw the ball, that's the best. That's the best
- 5:53Speaker 2: coverage you can run.
- 5:54Speaker 4: I mean, you can do it. You can do it
- 5:55Speaker 4: all day like and.
- 5:58Speaker 5: Simple too.
- 5:59Speaker 2: There's simple hesitation. There's no thinking I've got him, I've
- 6:02Speaker 2: got help.
- 6:03Speaker 4: That's it. That's it.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I've got him, I've got help, that's it.
- 6:06Speaker 3: It should be very very simple, and it should be
- 6:09Speaker 3: a thing that you do. And I remember Todd Bowle
- 6:11Speaker 3: said this when they knocked them off in the Super Bowl.
- 6:13Speaker 4: He said, if Pat.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Mahomes runs four hundred yards, we'll live with But they're
- 6:17Speaker 3: not going to beat just because he runs four hundred
- 6:19Speaker 3: yards because that's not what they want to do. We're
- 6:22Speaker 3: not going to give up the explosives. We're going to
- 6:24Speaker 3: take away their main options. And that's what they did.
- 6:26Speaker 3: And look, the Chargers had the game, therefore him because
- 6:30Speaker 3: the game was even Stephen, but you have to you
- 6:31Speaker 3: cannot allow Travis Kelsey to go be it because no
- 6:33Speaker 3: one else is capable of really have any moster day.
- 6:36Speaker 4: Let somebody else have a monster day.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Well, and I will just say, because you guys covered it,
- 6:42Speaker 1: I mean that's you know, it seems odd right that year,
- 6:45Speaker 1: but that it also feels like that's part of the
- 6:47Speaker 1: philosophy here with the way that Brandon Staley wants to
- 6:49Speaker 1: do things defensively. Right, it was like, okay, well, we're
- 6:52Speaker 1: not going to completely change what we do based on
- 6:54Speaker 1: one guy. What we do works and we're going to
- 6:56Speaker 1: work it and you know, have a plan and work
- 6:58Speaker 1: the plan, right, But I will say, you know, it
- 7:03Speaker 1: did force Britney Mahomes and Travis Kelsey's significant other now
- 7:11Speaker 1: you might know her name, to adjust their new celebratory
- 7:15Speaker 1: handshake like they had to because of the way that
- 7:18Speaker 1: Kelsey was working in the first half. They had to
- 7:21Speaker 1: come up with a new adjustment on the handshakee because
- 7:24Speaker 1: they were executing it so many times. So they were
- 7:27Speaker 1: able to adjust in the first half with the celebrations,
- 7:31Speaker 1: which meant that things were probably going pretty well for
- 7:34Speaker 1: number eighty seven in Red. I mean, it's just incredible
- 7:37Speaker 1: the way that they they're able to continue to find,
- 7:41Speaker 1: you know, that chemistry. I'm trying to think back, like
- 7:44Speaker 1: if we go back to Brady Gronks.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Kelsey better, it's different, it's different, It's totally I think
- 7:52Speaker 2: it's different.
- 7:52Speaker 3: I think it's different. I would say the difference is
- 7:55Speaker 3: in my first glance there's more freestyle than more. I
- 8:00Speaker 3: would say, you know, they color outside the lines and yeah, improvisation,
- 8:04Speaker 3: that's true. I felt like it was the Gronk was great,
- 8:07Speaker 3: but I felt like it was playing. It was scripted.
- 8:09Speaker 3: How they by how he got Like with Kansas City,
- 8:12Speaker 3: I think the part of part of the problem and
- 8:14Speaker 3: dealing with him is you just never know where Travis
- 8:16Speaker 3: Kelsey's gonna because I don't even know if his quarterback knows.
- 8:18Speaker 4: But they played all the time. Yeah, so Gronk was
- 8:24Speaker 4: Gronk was different. Though.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Gronk was contested catches and run after catch like you
- 8:29Speaker 2: could not physically get him on the ground. There's all
- 8:31Speaker 2: the players of guy's bouncing off of him as he
- 8:33Speaker 2: just kind of rumbling down the field, hanged bodies hanging
- 8:36Speaker 2: on him like that. Kelsey is gonna work in zones
- 8:39Speaker 2: and strace, He's gonna separate at the top of his route.
- 8:42Speaker 2: He's gonna get what he gets, but like he's not
- 8:44Speaker 2: going to You're not gonna run guys over. And then
- 8:46Speaker 2: in the run game, it's not even I mean, it's
- 8:48Speaker 2: not even close.
- 8:48Speaker 5: No, I just meant. I just meant on chemistry with
- 8:50Speaker 5: quarterback in tight end, that's all.
- 8:52Speaker 2: They have, unbelievab chemistry. There was a next inst that
- 8:54Speaker 2: that they had completed like twenty nine straight balls when targeted.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Mahomes had completed twenty nine straight to Kelsey, think about
- 9:02Speaker 2: how crazy that is. They had the probability of like
- 9:04Speaker 2: point zero three percent of that happening. Like that's that's
- 9:08Speaker 2: how stupid it was, And I do want to say
- 9:09Speaker 2: one thing as we move on here. The Chiefs defense
- 9:12Speaker 2: is it is the one of the best versions of
- 9:14Speaker 2: that defense that I've seen, and they've had Super Bowl defenses.
- 9:17Speaker 2: One of the things that they do that I love,
- 9:19Speaker 2: Like you watch a guy like Lugerius snead Buck. They
- 9:22Speaker 2: get the hands on people every snap, like they don't
- 9:25Speaker 2: give free access. In a league where so much of
- 9:28Speaker 2: the passing game is rhythm and timing based, it seems
- 9:31Speaker 2: like it's not that you know, complicated that it's it
- 9:35Speaker 2: helps when you can get your hands on guys and
- 9:36Speaker 2: reroute them just a little bit. Now, they still give
- 9:38Speaker 2: up some explosives down the field because Chargers have players,
- 9:40Speaker 2: but they don't make it easy on you defensively.
- 9:45Speaker 4: So it's funny, DJ you talked about that.
- 9:46Speaker 3: It is one of the things that drives me crazy,
- 9:48Speaker 3: Like you see guys just playing off and just conceding
- 9:52Speaker 3: yards and just giving them. And I don't know, I'll
- 9:55Speaker 3: say this, like I'm a believer that you need to
- 9:57Speaker 3: make receivers work for.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Every yard they get.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Like most guys if you challenge them early and they
- 10:02Speaker 3: go these long stretches without touching the ball, they'll kind
- 10:05Speaker 3: of check out and power and they'll turn on the quarterback.
- 10:08Speaker 3: So I believe you should do what the Kansa City
- 10:10Speaker 3: Chiefs do. Hey man, make them earn it, touch them
- 10:12Speaker 3: every time. It's annoying. It's almost like when we play basketball.
- 10:17Speaker 3: You know, you play in the YMCA and there's this
- 10:19Speaker 3: one guy who's gonna be the defensive guy, right, so
- 10:21Speaker 3: you're off in the corner not really into play, but
- 10:23Speaker 3: his chest is on you, like can I get some room?
- 10:28Speaker 3: But it's that guy, and it's the guy who has
- 10:30Speaker 3: no talent. Sometimes you need to trigue wide receivers like that,
- 10:33Speaker 3: like make them always kind of feel you because it's annoying.
- 10:36Speaker 4: It's an annoying.
- 10:39Speaker 2: By the way, do you know how many contested the
- 10:41Speaker 2: targets that the Kansas City Chiefs had in this game?
- 10:44Speaker 4: Two oh two?
- 10:46Speaker 5: Yeah, but they weren't that most of them weren't from Kelsey.
- 10:51Speaker 4: Oh. I mean, like you talk about challenging people. They
- 10:54Speaker 4: had two contested targets, so unbelievable.
- 10:58Speaker 2: So anybody only threw it forty two times, so you
- 11:01Speaker 2: know that not great? All right, let's let's get to
- 11:05Speaker 2: the next one here. We're gonna go back a few
- 11:07Speaker 2: days here on this one. We don't need to We
- 11:09Speaker 2: don't need to linger along on this one. But I
- 11:11Speaker 2: know it's a few days old, but your game Jagged Saints,
- 11:14Speaker 2: and man that the CHaGS. You guys are positioned in
- 11:16Speaker 2: a great spot right now.
- 11:18Speaker 4: Yeah. So here's the game. The game. Uh, it's not
- 11:21Speaker 4: even really about the result.
- 11:23Speaker 3: I think the big thing that came out of the
- 11:24Speaker 3: game is Trevor Lawrence's uh willingness to play. Trevor Lawrence
- 11:28Speaker 3: the last game against the Naps Coast, at the very
- 11:30Speaker 3: end of the game, he runs a bull leg, he
- 11:31Speaker 3: hurts his knee, he's braced up, and it's a short week.
- 11:35Speaker 3: So I see him leaving with his wife on Sunday
- 11:38Speaker 3: and he's kind of gimping out, had a big old
- 11:41Speaker 3: brace on, and I was like, well, that's not good
- 11:43Speaker 3: considering they play on a Thursday. And Doug peterson Is said,
- 11:46Speaker 3: I didn't know if he's gonna play. I don't know
- 11:47Speaker 3: if he's gonna play. I watched him in pre game
- 11:50Speaker 3: and i'mna be honest with you. I'm watching him throw
- 11:53Speaker 3: and it's not great, right. So he's trying to make
- 11:56Speaker 3: these throws. The first ones are just fluttering all over
- 11:59Speaker 3: the place. He then settles down and he's look, he
- 12:01Speaker 3: has the a team that he's working and you know
- 12:03Speaker 3: it's big time when in pregame is Calvin Ridley, Evan Ingram,
- 12:07Speaker 3: Christian Kirk running routes an hour and a half before
- 12:10Speaker 3: the game, and I was like, oh, yeah, they're really
- 12:11Speaker 3: trying to see if he can throw DJ. Early in
- 12:15Speaker 3: the game, he just takes off running and the whole
- 12:18Speaker 3: time I'm like, get down, get down, and it's like
- 12:21Speaker 3: a big run and those things.
- 12:22Speaker 4: But what that did.
- 12:24Speaker 3: He earned more points in the locker room than you
- 12:27Speaker 3: ever can imagine because of his toughness. And there's something
- 12:30Speaker 3: to be said for Look, Philip Rivers always played, Eli
- 12:34Speaker 3: Manning always played, and we were the left beloves. When
- 12:38Speaker 3: you're the franchise quarterback, you have to show up. And
- 12:42Speaker 3: there's something about like when you displayed that level of toughness.
- 12:46Speaker 4: That ingratiates you to the team.
- 12:48Speaker 3: And because of that, I think the affinity that his
- 12:53Speaker 3: teammates have for him, the respect that the coaches have
- 12:55Speaker 3: for him, who leaps and bounds because of his willingness
- 12:59Speaker 3: to play and how he played in spite of this
- 13:02Speaker 3: stuff and so one of the things that we talk
- 13:03Speaker 3: about in evaluation is toughness with quarterbacks. That exhibition of
- 13:07Speaker 3: toughness goes a long way in that lock of them.
- 13:10Speaker 4: No, that's big. I think that's a great point. RT.
- 13:13Speaker 2: On the Saint side of things, I felt terrible for
- 13:16Speaker 2: Foster Moreau at the end of guy.
- 13:18Speaker 4: He's such a good guy.
- 13:19Speaker 1: I mean, you know, obviously he went through you know
- 13:21Speaker 1: what he went through, overcoming you know, cancer this past
- 13:24Speaker 1: off season, and you know, he's an LSU guy and
- 13:27Speaker 1: you know, wants to do great down there, you know,
- 13:29Speaker 1: and it's just you know, what I appreciated was Alvin
- 13:31Speaker 1: Kamara and Jowan Johnson going to pick him up after
- 13:34Speaker 1: the game, you know, and you love seeing that stuff.
- 13:37Speaker 1: And I think that tells you something about, you know,
- 13:39Speaker 1: where the Saints are in terms of, you know, the
- 13:41Speaker 1: locker room and obviously in the face of you know,
- 13:44Speaker 1: more struggle than they have faced in their entire careers
- 13:48Speaker 1: really in these last two years and certainly in the
- 13:49Speaker 1: start to the season. So you know, it tells you
- 13:53Speaker 1: that they got some guys that they can kind of
- 13:54Speaker 1: rally around and hopefully, you know, find a way. I mean, look,
- 13:57Speaker 1: in the end Derek Carr throwing at fifty five times.
- 14:00Speaker 1: This game is again, you know, probably not what you want.
- 14:05Speaker 5: But yeah, you're in and out.
- 14:06Speaker 1: You're you got an opportunity there, game time touchdown, you know,
- 14:09Speaker 1: and they had their chances. They just they have not
- 14:11Speaker 1: been able to take advantage of opportunities the way they
- 14:13Speaker 1: need to.
- 14:14Speaker 4: No doubt.
- 14:15Speaker 2: I do want to correct one error from earlier. There
- 14:18Speaker 2: was four contested targets in the.
- 14:20Speaker 4: Oh, that's ridiculous. I had a storder with.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Just Kelsey, so I didn't want to make it one.
- 14:24Speaker 2: I don't want to over exaggerate here, can can Can
- 14:26Speaker 2: I bring this up?
- 14:27Speaker 3: Because you guys like you have a quarterback in DJ
- 14:29Speaker 3: I got a wide receiver and htt I just want
- 14:31Speaker 3: to know, uh Rhett, I ask you this, sir, when
- 14:35Speaker 3: Derek Carr is you're a quarterback and he's making these
- 14:40Speaker 3: theatrics and gestures for the world to know about very
- 14:45Speaker 3: demonsterra that you might have blown around, Like how do
- 14:49Speaker 3: you feel about that when you when you come to
- 14:51Speaker 3: the sideline, because I don't think you, as a wide
- 14:53Speaker 3: receiver are reacting like that when he overthrows the guy
- 14:56Speaker 3: he throws his thirtieth checkdown on the day. It just
- 15:00Speaker 3: seems like a lot for an organization. This head Drew Brees,
- 15:04Speaker 3: the cosum and leader that you know, the dom has
- 15:07Speaker 3: seen Drew Brees and how he conducts himself. And then
- 15:10Speaker 3: here we have Derek Carr six seven games in and
- 15:13Speaker 3: it is it's really a big show. Particularly when you're
- 15:16Speaker 3: down on the sideline, oh the opposite sideline. You can
- 15:18Speaker 3: see it and I'm like, this is not gonna play. Well,
- 15:21Speaker 3: He's not gonna play here.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Here's the one thing I'll say is generally, you know
- 15:28Speaker 1: when you screwed up, right, and so like unless like
- 15:31Speaker 1: you are vehemently in disagreement with Derek Carr and his
- 15:35Speaker 1: assessment of what you were supposed to do on that play,
- 15:38Speaker 1: like you to a certain extent, Like you know.
- 15:39Speaker 5: It's like, yeah, you know what, I I screwed that up.
- 15:43Speaker 1: I you know, maybe I deserve it, but yeah, you'd
- 15:45Speaker 1: still like to not see I mean, remember we were
- 15:48Speaker 1: we were dissecting this like crazy. At the end of
- 15:51Speaker 1: Tom Brady's career too, where he was you know, into
- 15:54Speaker 1: his Patriots run, I should say, where he was getting
- 15:56Speaker 1: some major frustration with some of his wide receivers and he,
- 15:59Speaker 1: like you know, and you know, but he's the greatest
- 16:02Speaker 1: ever play the game.
- 16:04Speaker 5: You know.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I think I think that there's probably a little bit
- 16:08Speaker 1: of frustration there on both sides. And I think that
- 16:13Speaker 1: that's where as you mentioned it could it could cause
- 16:16Speaker 1: some issues here because I don't think Derek's been flawless,
- 16:19Speaker 1: so you know, and while he's been okay, I don't
- 16:22Speaker 1: think it's it's been enough to say that I am
- 16:24Speaker 1: above that type of criticism on the other side. So
- 16:28Speaker 1: and he said it after the game, I'll give him
- 16:30Speaker 1: some credit. He's got to chill out a little bit,
- 16:32Speaker 1: got to chill out a little bit. But they got problems.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I mean, they got real they got real issues on
- 16:36Speaker 1: offense SAG.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know on that one. To me in
- 16:40Speaker 2: the in between the lines is when it's that that
- 16:43Speaker 2: was what drive me crazy. And so yeah, if you
- 16:46Speaker 2: saw it, and I'm just talking about my musy little career,
- 16:48Speaker 2: I'm just talking about just being around it. When I
- 16:50Speaker 2: would see receivers when you know it buck, when they
- 16:53Speaker 2: start jumping up and down and skipping and like shaking
- 16:56Speaker 2: their hands that you know, like come on, he he
- 17:00Speaker 2: wants to be like, dude, you have any idea how
- 17:02Speaker 2: hard it is to play this position back here with
- 17:04Speaker 2: all this going on right here, like I'm going to
- 17:05Speaker 2: miss you sometimes, Like we'll talk about it. We get
- 17:08Speaker 2: over the sideline, if you want to come over, and
- 17:09Speaker 2: if you want to give, you know, give me some
- 17:11Speaker 2: stern words about how pissed off you are that you
- 17:14Speaker 2: were open and I missed you, then that's fine. But
- 17:17Speaker 2: on the field of play, I don't like it. To me,
- 17:18Speaker 2: that's where I kind of draw the distinction. And then
- 17:21Speaker 2: on the on the quarterback side of things, that's just
- 17:24Speaker 2: what comes to the position. I say, the quarterback and
- 17:25Speaker 2: the head coach, I'd put him, I'd lump him together.
- 17:27Speaker 2: I thought when we were talking about the Giants game
- 17:30Speaker 2: a couple of weeks ago against the Bills, when day ball,
- 17:33Speaker 2: when when Tyrod Taylor, you know, ran the play and
- 17:37Speaker 2: checked to a run and they don't get any points
- 17:38Speaker 2: at the end of the half, he sprints out onto
- 17:40Speaker 2: the field and he's airing him out. So it's like
- 17:43Speaker 2: the whole world can see, like, dude, we all know
- 17:45Speaker 2: that Tyrod Taylor screwed up. We all know that he
- 17:49Speaker 2: knows that. You know that the whole stadium, everybody watching
- 17:52Speaker 2: you don't have to air him out. You're going to
- 17:54Speaker 2: get bonus points for protecting him and then have that
- 17:57Speaker 2: conversation in the locker room. And I feel like quarterbacks
- 18:00Speaker 2: the same way. Hey you ran the wrong route, I
- 18:02Speaker 2: threw a pick. I'm just gonna walk off the field.
- 18:04Speaker 2: I'm not going to say anything. I'm not going to
- 18:06Speaker 2: show you up. And I'll take that. I'll take that bullet.
- 18:08Speaker 2: And what it's gonna do is gonna build my credibility
- 18:10Speaker 2: with the team.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's just it's just annoying to watch an
- 18:16Speaker 3: But fuck, it's that rule that we've said.
- 18:18Speaker 2: It's the rule that we've always said, which is it's
- 18:20Speaker 2: very simple. When it's right, it's we. When it's wrong,
- 18:23Speaker 2: it's me. That's the that's the rule of playing quarterback.
- 18:25Speaker 4: That's it. Rhet.
- 18:27Speaker 2: How about Uh, this is a game, by the way,
- 18:29Speaker 2: this Browns Colts game. I'm in the press I'm in
- 18:32Speaker 2: the press box for the for the Chiefs game, Chiefs
- 18:35Speaker 2: Chargers game. It was one of those ones where like,
- 18:37Speaker 2: I don't I'm not exaggerating. It was a double take,
- 18:40Speaker 2: Like I looked at this scoreboard and I was like
- 18:42Speaker 2: I looked, I was like, what like at a halftime
- 18:44Speaker 2: scored this game. I was like, how the heck is
- 18:46Speaker 2: Gardner Minshew and the Colts? I really scored this many
- 18:48Speaker 2: points against the Browns?
- 18:51Speaker 1: Right, yeah, great question. And you know, I think you
- 18:57Speaker 1: you start looking at it. I mean, look, Guard Minshew
- 19:00Speaker 1: is a good player. Now, he's got some turnovers obviously
- 19:03Speaker 1: that he wants to have back in this game, four
- 19:05Speaker 1: of them to be exact, one of them through the air,
- 19:08Speaker 1: and then the three fumbles. But I mean, but that
- 19:10Speaker 1: brings us to the real point of this whole discussion.
- 19:12Speaker 4: Here.
- 19:12Speaker 1: We can talk about the points and all that stuff,
- 19:14Speaker 1: but I mean, Miles Garrett is just a superhuman.
- 19:18Speaker 5: Like there's just there's just no other way around it.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Like I spent my morning like googling superheroes and I'm like,
- 19:24Speaker 1: you know what, none of these guys are as good
- 19:25Speaker 1: as Miles Garrett.
- 19:27Speaker 4: You know what I mean.
- 19:28Speaker 1: I mean, it's like he's the Hulk, He's the Flash,
- 19:30Speaker 1: He's like the Silver Surfer, iron Man, whatever you want
- 19:33Speaker 1: to call him.
- 19:34Speaker 5: Like he's all into one. Nobody does you.
- 19:37Speaker 4: There's there are so few.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Humans on this planet that can do what he did
- 19:41Speaker 1: on that field goal block at his sides and then
- 19:44Speaker 1: and then obviously you know the speed and the power
- 19:47Speaker 1: that he's got off the edge to create that.
- 19:49Speaker 5: Turnover in the end zone.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I mean, those were game changing plays and those are
- 19:52Speaker 1: plays that you got to have when you're playing a
- 19:54Speaker 1: quarterback you know who you know didn't start the game
- 19:57Speaker 1: and it made just one start for your team before that.
- 20:00Speaker 1: And obviously you know, isn't you know, one of the
- 20:02Speaker 1: top five quarterbacks in the league. So I mean, like,
- 20:04Speaker 1: dude just takes it and puts it all on his shoulders.
- 20:07Speaker 1: And Jim Schwartz, I mean, credit again to what they
- 20:10Speaker 1: do defensively to set him up for success, but he
- 20:13Speaker 1: beats double teams. I mean like it's almost like what
- 20:17Speaker 1: else Shan Steyke is like, what else do you mean
- 20:20Speaker 1: to do?
- 20:21Speaker 4: You know?
- 20:21Speaker 1: I just I feel like, you know, the fact that
- 20:23Speaker 1: he passes Reggie White for the most sacks by a
- 20:26Speaker 1: player before turning twenty eight years old, I think just
- 20:29Speaker 1: kind of makes you sit back for a second and
- 20:31Speaker 1: go like, Okay, let's appreciate fully what we're seeing here.
- 20:35Speaker 1: You know what I mean, no question, Buck, what's your take?
- 20:38Speaker 1: I know you you see the Colts inside that division,
- 20:41Speaker 1: follow that team that they've they're that competitive in that game.
- 20:45Speaker 1: I don't win, there's no moral victories. But to me,
- 20:47Speaker 1: when you lose Richardson for the year and you've got
- 20:49Speaker 1: Gardner Minshew out there and rhet talked about you get
- 20:51Speaker 1: some of the good, but you're going to get the
- 20:52Speaker 1: turnovers through all that.
- 20:53Speaker 4: I mean it's a one point game. Yeah, No, really
- 20:55Speaker 4: scrappy team.
- 20:56Speaker 3: And I think we talked about it like, this is
- 20:59Speaker 3: a team that has gone all in on the prototypes.
- 21:02Speaker 4: You know, at the position.
- 21:03Speaker 3: They were the ones that took all the guys with
- 21:05Speaker 3: the testing numbers and the heightway sides of speed and
- 21:07Speaker 3: all that, and so this is a team that plays
- 21:09Speaker 3: fast and they've been put in a scheme where we
- 21:12Speaker 3: kind of talked about if you take great athletes and
- 21:16Speaker 3: you have a collection of teachers on your coaching staff,
- 21:19Speaker 3: what could it look like.
- 21:20Speaker 4: And that's kind of what we're seeing. The Colts are
- 21:23Speaker 4: showing you.
- 21:23Speaker 3: Hey, if you have great teachers and you take the
- 21:25Speaker 3: best athletes that are available in the draft, you might
- 21:28Speaker 3: be able to put together a good team if you
- 21:30Speaker 3: have the right teachers that are willing to put them
- 21:31Speaker 3: on the field, because they play much better than you
- 21:35Speaker 3: would think their roster was suggested they play based on
- 21:37Speaker 3: the experience, and what they have to me is the
- 21:41Speaker 3: credit of the coaching staff and the scouting department being
- 21:43Speaker 3: on the same page. And I think the future is
- 21:45Speaker 3: bright in Indianapolis when they continue to add more pieces
- 21:48Speaker 3: to the puzzle.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Yeah, a nice see Josh downs go five for a buck,
- 21:51Speaker 2: twenty five and a touchdown. So nobody took him in
- 21:54Speaker 2: the rookie drafts?
- 21:55Speaker 4: And what are we doing?
- 21:56Speaker 3: You know, it would have been nice if you were
- 21:58Speaker 3: still the chapel, you know, that's what That's what I was.
- 22:00Speaker 4: How about that? Yeah, that's a tough one.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Look, look, rehtt and I know we can't say anything
- 22:05Speaker 2: without a way nothing.
- 22:07Speaker 4: But but it would be nice. It would be nice.
- 22:09Speaker 2: And vison jebeo doing it freaking the who's gotcha? Is
- 22:14Speaker 2: that what they call themselves?
- 22:15Speaker 4: By the way I think they do? Yeah?
- 22:16Speaker 2: Who whatever, Yeah whatever. Anyways, tough one for the tar Heels.
- 22:23Speaker 2: All right, we're gonna take quick break. We come back.
- 22:24Speaker 2: We'll talk about the big Sunday night matchup between the
- 22:26Speaker 2: Dolphins and the Eagles right after this. All right, this
- 22:33Speaker 2: was probably the game of the week, not probably, this
- 22:35Speaker 2: was the game of the week one that I got
- 22:37Speaker 2: to see the first half on watching it on my
- 22:40Speaker 2: phone on the bus on the way to the airport,
- 22:42Speaker 2: and then then just saw the score a teend of
- 22:44Speaker 2: the game, and then was excited to get up this
- 22:46Speaker 2: morning and uh and watch the tape, watched all twenty
- 22:48Speaker 2: two and see you know what happened in this game.
- 22:50Speaker 2: And I the first thing I did is I popped
- 22:52Speaker 2: on the Dolphins offense because when you look at it,
- 22:55Speaker 2: when they only have seventeen points and seven came via
- 22:57Speaker 2: the defense, You're like, okay, ten points. This is the
- 23:00Speaker 2: most explosive, the most dynamic offense in the league. Like
- 23:03Speaker 2: did the Eagles, what'd they do? How'd they shut this
- 23:05Speaker 2: thing down? And I'll start with the positives for the Dolphins.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Don't panic, don't if you're a Dolphins fan, They're fine.
- 23:12Speaker 2: They had so many snaps on the other side of
- 23:15Speaker 2: the fifty. I mean, they had so many opportunities, and
- 23:17Speaker 2: then and then they exhaust on downs on one on
- 23:20Speaker 2: a fourth and three, they don't aren't able to convert.
- 23:22Speaker 2: You have to pick uh, you know, towards the end
- 23:24Speaker 2: of the game in the in the red zone, they
- 23:27Speaker 2: they had they had a touchdown called back. They had
- 23:30Speaker 2: what would have been a touchdown to Tyreek Hill. He
- 23:32Speaker 2: somehow bobbles I mean, he kind of almost kneed the
- 23:35Speaker 2: ball out of his own hands on the running into
- 23:37Speaker 2: the end zone. Like, there was a lot of opportunity
- 23:40Speaker 2: for them in this game, and some of it was
- 23:43Speaker 2: was definitely self inflicted. Now, the Eagles did a nice
- 23:47Speaker 2: job of what we've talked about in the past when
- 23:49Speaker 2: you play this team, if you can get your linebackers
- 23:52Speaker 2: to get back there and get depth, which was nice
- 23:55Speaker 2: to see. I thought, you know, watching back the tape
- 23:57Speaker 2: of this game, Nikobe Dean was the first time I
- 23:59Speaker 2: kind of got excited about seeing him and what he
- 24:01Speaker 2: was doing running around, which was great to see. But
- 24:04Speaker 2: they're gonna play, They're gonna try and get after you
- 24:06Speaker 2: up front, and they forced some big penalties, so it
- 24:08Speaker 2: wasn't just the you know, they had what three sacks
- 24:10Speaker 2: I believe in this game. It was nice to see
- 24:13Speaker 2: the first sack of Nolan Smith's career. He was unblocked
- 24:16Speaker 2: but got his first sack. Yeah, but what sweat was
- 24:19Speaker 2: really active that you know, Jalen Carter, you know, drew
- 24:22Speaker 2: a penalty. Like they they were able to get them
- 24:24Speaker 2: off schedule with some penalties that showed you the impact
- 24:27Speaker 2: of their front. Their their defense played well. That being said,
- 24:30Speaker 2: they were still ops. There were still ops for Miami
- 24:33Speaker 2: in this game. And I think my biggest takeaway was
- 24:35Speaker 2: not what I anticipated. I thought I was gonna watch
- 24:37Speaker 2: it and come away saying, man, the Eagles, they dominated
- 24:41Speaker 2: them defensively. And I came away saying, you know what,
- 24:43Speaker 2: the Eagles played well enough, and I thought the Miami
- 24:46Speaker 2: Dolphins left little meat on the bone.
- 24:48Speaker 4: I mean, I like, I would go there. I would.
- 24:51Speaker 3: I would say, here's here's the thing. We talked about
- 24:54Speaker 3: these teams being built very similar on on the podcast
- 24:57Speaker 3: in terms of like how they've been constructed, the way
- 24:59Speaker 3: they they they've done it. I would say that the
- 25:01Speaker 3: Eagles depth has certainly helped them because they can just
- 25:04Speaker 3: bring so many different waves. I would also say that
- 25:07Speaker 3: the Eagles are much faster team than I anticipated because
- 25:09Speaker 3: some of the trickery that the Dolphins have utilized to
- 25:12Speaker 3: create big plays they were minimal games. I mean, this
- 25:16Speaker 3: is a team that is basically running a version of
- 25:19Speaker 3: the wing tea with all the spinner series, the packages,
- 25:22Speaker 3: the coming one way, coming around yeah, and they really
- 25:24Speaker 3: try and get you out of source, but the Eagles
- 25:26Speaker 3: are able to run them down and meet them at
- 25:28Speaker 3: the line of scrimmage. And so for a team that
- 25:30Speaker 3: really specializes they're running in the sea gap, which is
- 25:33Speaker 3: like the gap between the tackling the tight end they
- 25:36Speaker 3: want to run outside. Eagle speed and explosiveness really showed
- 25:41Speaker 3: up to me when I looked at this game.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's where you know, depth along the defensive front.
- 25:46Speaker 1: You know where you got those guys, and you've got
- 25:48Speaker 1: multiple dudes that you can keep rolling in there. I
- 25:51Speaker 1: also think that that you know, we've talked about this
- 25:53Speaker 1: kind of the last couple of weeks, but for Miami,
- 25:55Speaker 1: you know, their depth along the offensive line has been
- 25:58Speaker 1: challenged in the last couple of weeks, you know, with
- 26:00Speaker 1: Tron Armstead kind of being in and out and he's
- 26:03Speaker 1: gonna be out for a few weeks, and Connor Williams,
- 26:05Speaker 1: you know, was a big loss for them at center.
- 26:06Speaker 1: I think even Eikenberg ended up with a with a
- 26:08Speaker 1: couple of pre snaps penalties on there that that affected them,
- 26:12Speaker 1: And like, I don't know how natural the center he
- 26:14Speaker 1: really he is, but Connor Williams has been a really
- 26:17Speaker 1: good player for them. So I just I think a
- 26:19Speaker 1: little bit of a confluence of events there. You meet,
- 26:23Speaker 1: you know, you're less than full strength on your offensive front,
- 26:26Speaker 1: and then you meet a defensive group that is as
- 26:29Speaker 1: deep and talented and fast and physical as you're probably
- 26:32Speaker 1: going to see this season.
- 26:34Speaker 5: And that's basically what happened. Forty five rushing yards.
- 26:37Speaker 1: I mean that that has become such a big piece, right,
- 26:39Speaker 1: It's not just a flash and dash of Tyreek Hill,
- 26:41Speaker 1: by the way, missed a couple of opportunities himself as
- 26:43Speaker 1: you were talking about Tej. But yeah, I just I
- 26:46Speaker 1: think when they can't when they can't get some of
- 26:48Speaker 1: that run game stuff going, you know, this offense kind
- 26:52Speaker 1: of struggles a little bit.
- 26:54Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, one of the things I was thinking
- 26:55Speaker 4: from the eagle side of things. You know, A J.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Brown has another huge game, ten for a buck thirty
- 27:00Speaker 2: seven and a touchdown god Or got in the end zone.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Had a nice day. He's having a really good year.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts, guys is so rugged and so tough. He's
- 27:08Speaker 2: beat up in this game. He still manages to make
- 27:11Speaker 2: the plays he needs to make. It's two hundred and
- 27:12Speaker 2: seventy nine yards, a couple passing touchdowns, there's an interception,
- 27:16Speaker 2: there's some other throws I know he'd like to have back.
- 27:18Speaker 2: You know, they did the sneak thing a zillion times.
- 27:20Speaker 2: He had eleven carries for twenty one yards, So I
- 27:22Speaker 2: mean it's just kind of a rugged, rugged day, including
- 27:24Speaker 2: a touchdown, and that the takeaway that I had though
- 27:27Speaker 2: from their side of things, is maybe the player that
- 27:30Speaker 2: holds the keys to who's going to come out of
- 27:34Speaker 2: the NFC is going to be Marcus Mariota because I
- 27:38Speaker 2: know his knees hurt. I don't know if Jalen plays
- 27:40Speaker 2: this week. Maybe he's fine, maybe he's able to get
- 27:42Speaker 2: through this injury, but the way that he's used, he's
- 27:44Speaker 2: going to miss some games. So you know, whether that's
- 27:47Speaker 2: one game, two games, you know for I don't know,
- 27:50Speaker 2: but you can't. I don't care how strong he is.
- 27:53Speaker 2: I know he's incredibly tough, he's incredibly strong, how rugged
- 27:57Speaker 2: he plays, buck He's not going to be there for
- 28:00Speaker 2: seventeen weeks this year. He's going to miss some time.
- 28:02Speaker 2: And when you think about how even the forty nine
- 28:06Speaker 2: ers and the Eagles are and we know this is
- 28:08Speaker 2: a collision course that we are headed towards.
- 28:11Speaker 4: Yep.
- 28:11Speaker 2: If it's a three game sample size with Marcus Mariota,
- 28:14Speaker 2: he could hold the keys of who has home field
- 28:16Speaker 2: advantage in the NFC. I really that was my takeaway
- 28:19Speaker 2: watching this game.
- 28:20Speaker 3: Yeah, and then watching the game because Jalen did come
- 28:22Speaker 3: out with the second in the second half, he had
- 28:24Speaker 3: the knee brace on. He didn't really talk about it
- 28:27Speaker 3: in the postgame interview. He got to just everyone's dealing
- 28:30Speaker 3: with stuff, be fine, but to just work you wonder, Okay,
- 28:34Speaker 3: if this is an injury, is it best to sit
- 28:37Speaker 3: him now, let him get fully healthy, or are you
- 28:40Speaker 3: going to try and let him grind it out and
- 28:42Speaker 3: then potentially lose him when it matters down the stretch.
- 28:46Speaker 4: I mean, I gotta be careful.
- 28:49Speaker 5: I'm just I'm looking at this, Bucky.
- 28:50Speaker 1: And just to chime in here briefly, next two games
- 28:54Speaker 1: Commanders and Cowboys, So two division games, then you got
- 28:56Speaker 1: the bye week Week ten, and then how about this
- 28:59Speaker 1: four game, five game stretch? Really, Chiefs Bills, forty nine, Ers, Cowboys, Seahawks.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Coming out of the buy for Philly, it almost seems
- 29:09Speaker 3: like Red if you're going to make the move this is.
- 29:11Speaker 4: The time, yeah, ahead of the bye and then attack
- 29:13Speaker 4: by on the end of it.
- 29:14Speaker 3: Yeah, because you think, hey, we should be able to
- 29:16Speaker 3: get with the Commanders without him, even if we drop
- 29:19Speaker 3: one to the Cowboys. Now, we should be able to
- 29:22Speaker 3: get them on the back end.
- 29:23Speaker 4: We have the buye.
- 29:24Speaker 3: They'll give you three almost four full weeks for him
- 29:27Speaker 3: to get right and to be available for that stretch
- 29:30Speaker 3: run depending on what.
- 29:31Speaker 1: And I'm not trying to pick on anybody here, but
- 29:34Speaker 1: I mean, just what we saw from Marcus Mariota in
- 29:36Speaker 1: the preseason.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Feel that's what. But that's why I'm saying, that's why
- 29:41Speaker 2: I think it's so key. Yeah, you know, I have
- 29:43Speaker 2: my doubts for sure. This is not you know, when
- 29:46Speaker 2: Gardner Minshew was in that spot, you felt okay about it.
- 29:49Speaker 2: I don't feel great about Marcus Mariota, but I would
- 29:51Speaker 2: say that they you know, this team has kind of
- 29:54Speaker 2: a grit and the toughness that that's where the defense
- 29:56Speaker 2: will crank it up a notch and they'll run the ball.
- 29:58Speaker 2: You know, there's at least a there And I think
- 30:01Speaker 2: Bucky's point, you can you can navigate these maybe these
- 30:04Speaker 2: next games with that after the bye, with that slate
- 30:07Speaker 2: that you just I don't think you want to navigate
- 30:09Speaker 2: those games, don't.
- 30:10Speaker 4: And you need him.
- 30:11Speaker 3: You need him as as close to full strength as
- 30:14Speaker 3: you can get for that for that run. And so
- 30:17Speaker 3: if you if you can sit him down and get
- 30:20Speaker 3: them back healthy after the bat you should do it
- 30:23Speaker 3: because that's where you're really going to need him. If
- 30:25Speaker 3: you can go one and one coming out of this stretch, Look,
- 30:28Speaker 3: you're not going to fall back much, if at all.
- 30:30Speaker 3: And if you're the Eagles, you probably think you can
- 30:33Speaker 3: win both of them if you get it done.
- 30:35Speaker 2: And and if you if you drop one of these,
- 30:37Speaker 2: now Buck, well you've got the head to head with
- 30:39Speaker 2: the Niners. So if you have if you have Jalen
- 30:42Speaker 2: healthy and you go win that game, that's like win two. Yeah,
- 30:47Speaker 2: so that would be big. The beatdown of the week,
- 30:50Speaker 2: by the way, Holy moly, wow was your game here?
- 30:53Speaker 3: Buck?
- 30:53Speaker 2: That was the Ravens just beating the stuffing out of
- 30:55Speaker 2: the Lions.
- 30:56Speaker 4: You know what.
- 30:57Speaker 3: I feel like this was a message to me because
- 30:59Speaker 3: I sitting here talking about this offense with Monken. I
- 31:03Speaker 3: went on TV a weeke and some change ago. Oh Rare,
- 31:07Speaker 3: were you dead today? I was talking about them playing volleyball. Yes, yes,
- 31:10Speaker 3: it was Thursday night. Yeah, Thursday night date. Yeah, seven drops.
- 31:13Speaker 3: I was like, oh, I didn't know that the Ravens
- 31:15Speaker 3: had a volleyball team. But they just they're just knocking
- 31:18Speaker 3: everything down and then all of a sudden, this offense
- 31:22Speaker 3: shows up and Lamar Jackson looks like MVP Lamar Jackson.
- 31:26Speaker 3: The way they're throwing it, the way he's running around,
- 31:29Speaker 3: the offense.
- 31:29Speaker 4: Is clicking fifty seven, Like I looked.
- 31:33Speaker 3: This was not on my bingo, This is not on
- 31:35Speaker 3: my bago. Cord Man, I would say this, as much
- 31:38Speaker 3: as everyone's gonna talk about the offense, I think we
- 31:41Speaker 3: might have been slipping sleeping on the defense.
- 31:45Speaker 4: I think I agreed.
- 31:46Speaker 3: Third game, Yeah, third game with Aphil teams to ten
- 31:50Speaker 3: points a fewer. I think I saw the only graphic
- 31:52Speaker 3: like they've only give enough seven offensive touchdowns?
- 31:54Speaker 4: Is that true? That can't be true. That can't be true.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Like the way that they're playing, but they're playing really
- 31:59Speaker 3: good on defense, and that defense with this offense that
- 32:03Speaker 3: has the potential to explode. Man, they put the Ravens
- 32:07Speaker 3: right back into the conversations. One of the teams that
- 32:09Speaker 3: you don't want to talk about in the tournament.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Great point, and I think it was nice to see
- 32:15Speaker 1: and to see that kind of the full complement of
- 32:18Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson's targets kind of show up. Obviously, Zay Flowers
- 32:21Speaker 1: has been there arguably their most consistent piece as a
- 32:24Speaker 1: rookie these first couple of weeks, but kind of reintroduce
- 32:26Speaker 1: yourself to the fact that Mark Andrews can be a
- 32:28Speaker 1: game wrecker. Rashat Bateman made some catches in this game,
- 32:32Speaker 1: They got Gus Edwards rolling a little bit, and so
- 32:35Speaker 1: it just it all felt like it was working. And
- 32:37Speaker 1: they jumped on Detroit from the jump, you know, and
- 32:41Speaker 1: that's that's obviously key, especially at home, you know, and
- 32:43Speaker 1: a team like that, you know in Detroit, you got
- 32:47Speaker 1: to get up early. You don't want to find yourself down.
- 32:50Speaker 1: And so I just I thought Lamar played, you know,
- 32:51Speaker 1: this is the best game we've seen him play in.
- 32:53Speaker 2: I don't know, in two years do we see by
- 32:57Speaker 2: the way in that game where you had a young,
- 32:59Speaker 2: exciting off offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, is it
- 33:03Speaker 2: time that maybe Mike McDonald gets some love. As Buck
- 33:05Speaker 2: was talking about this Ravens defense and how well they're
- 33:08Speaker 2: playing when you start, as you start getting to the
- 33:10Speaker 2: midway point, you start seeing some of these lists come
- 33:12Speaker 2: out with future head coaches. We did a nice job
- 33:14Speaker 2: at Michigan for Jim Jim Harbaugh. Then you know he's
- 33:17Speaker 2: bounced back and forth with John with the Ravens. He's
- 33:19Speaker 2: been excellent.
- 33:20Speaker 4: Man. He's a young guy who obviously is really really smart.
- 33:23Speaker 2: So in a league where we see all the offensive
- 33:26Speaker 2: guys getting the lake up, I wouldn't sleep on him
- 33:28Speaker 2: as being a head coaching candidate here in this next cycle. Yeah, Ratt,
- 33:33Speaker 2: what do you got here? What's your next game?
- 33:34Speaker 1: I believe we're going Patriots Bills. Yeah, so I'll just
- 33:39Speaker 1: I'll tackle this. Initially from the Patriots side of thing,
- 33:42Speaker 1: there was an efficiency and effectiveness to this offense for
- 33:46Speaker 1: New England that we have not seen this year. I
- 33:50Speaker 1: thought early on, man, it was just mac Jones was
- 33:53Speaker 1: on target and they were working the ball, you know,
- 33:56Speaker 1: to a variety of different pop Douglas was getting the
- 33:58Speaker 1: ball quickly and letting him kind of use that athleticism,
- 34:01Speaker 1: let him go to work. Farrell Brown find some chunk
- 34:04Speaker 1: plays from the tight end spot. In the past game,
- 34:07Speaker 1: there was a balance Mac didn't throw it forty five
- 34:09Speaker 1: times completed twenty five to thirty in this game, and
- 34:13Speaker 1: even though the run game wasn't particularly productive, they stuck
- 34:16Speaker 1: with it for the most part achieve some balance. But
- 34:19Speaker 1: maybe the biggest part about it is the offensive line.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Combo worked arguably for the first time this season now
- 34:27Speaker 1: like they've been missing Cole Strange for the last three games.
- 34:29Speaker 5: He comes back into the lineup.
- 34:31Speaker 1: That then allows Michael Wainu to move over to right tackle,
- 34:34Speaker 1: where they had just been getting beat handily on that
- 34:38Speaker 1: right tackle spot, and he kind of settles that down.
- 34:40Speaker 1: They allow zero sacks in just two quarterback hits and
- 34:44Speaker 1: arguably their lowest pressure percentage of the season this week
- 34:48Speaker 1: against the Bills defense would have been one of the
- 34:51Speaker 1: best in pressuring the quarterback all year. That to me
- 34:53Speaker 1: is the absolute key to this game. Mac Jones, when
- 34:56Speaker 1: given a second, is good enough to win games in
- 35:00Speaker 1: this league. And I think he's proven that time and
- 35:03Speaker 1: time again, and he's been under constant durest the last
- 35:05Speaker 1: month or so, and so the fact that he was
- 35:07Speaker 1: able to breathe for a second and then deliver some throws,
- 35:11Speaker 1: I mean, that was big and it wasn't like an
- 35:13Speaker 1: overly explosive offensive output, but they made plays when they
- 35:17Speaker 1: had to, made enough, especially down there late in the
- 35:19Speaker 1: game with the Kasiki touchdown, so that part was really good.
- 35:23Speaker 2: I don't even know buck if I'm you know, but
- 35:25Speaker 2: Rett's excited about the Patriots because they looked so much
- 35:28Speaker 2: better than they've looked. My emotion coming out of that
- 35:31Speaker 2: game is the man, what the heck is wrong with
- 35:33Speaker 2: the Buffalo Bills. They're they're up and down roller coaster team.
- 35:37Speaker 5: They lack DJ and buckets.
- 35:39Speaker 1: They lack so much I don't know, I don't know
- 35:42Speaker 1: the creativity so where they lacked so much in terms
- 35:45Speaker 1: of consistency and rhythm on offense.
- 35:47Speaker 5: It is like, man, I mean like I can feel
- 35:51Speaker 5: the frustration.
- 35:52Speaker 1: You know, like watching the game and you know, Josh Allen,
- 35:55Speaker 1: it is so it feels like that offense is so
- 35:58Speaker 1: boom or bust man, you know, and you know he
- 36:01Speaker 1: might throw three picks and you know, you still feel
- 36:03Speaker 1: confident in their ability to come back and win the game.
- 36:06Speaker 1: But I don't know what then, I don't know if
- 36:07Speaker 1: it's they're still struggling to find the right identity with
- 36:10Speaker 1: Ken Dorsey, is the play caller. But man, they just
- 36:14Speaker 1: they have not truly found the rhythm. I mean they
- 36:18Speaker 1: are just such an out of sync at times offense.
- 36:21Speaker 3: It feels like, yeah, it's very cluncky when you watched him.
- 36:24Speaker 3: There's no real rhyme or reason. I think the main
- 36:27Speaker 3: thing you don't know what their identity is. Right, So
- 36:29Speaker 3: when we think about the Miami Dolphins, we have a
- 36:31Speaker 3: clear picture of what their offensive identity is. It's about speed,
- 36:35Speaker 3: it's about getting to the perimeter, it's about explosive plays shots.
- 36:38Speaker 3: You think about the Philadelphia Eagles, it's about the run
- 36:40Speaker 3: game complimented with a vertical passing game, the AJ Brown,
- 36:43Speaker 3: Devoti Smith, and Dallas Goddard. But for the Buffalo Bills,
- 36:49Speaker 3: it's Josh Allen as a one man show. And I
- 36:52Speaker 3: don't know how that how that fares against some of
- 36:55Speaker 3: these other top teams in the AFC.
- 36:58Speaker 4: We've talked about the AFC being loaded from top to bottom.
- 37:01Speaker 3: I don't know if you can just have, hey, Josh,
- 37:03Speaker 3: we're gonna roll the ball out, We're gonna let you
- 37:05Speaker 3: do your thing, and we're gonna figure out a way
- 37:06Speaker 3: to score thirty points. I don't know if that's an
- 37:08Speaker 3: effective strategy against the teams that in the AFC the
- 37:11Speaker 3: Bills were. In the NFC, sure right, demand they could
- 37:15Speaker 3: do it, but in the AFC, it's going to take
- 37:17Speaker 3: more structure, more organization offensively for them to be able
- 37:21Speaker 3: to get past some of these top teams.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's interesting just looking at I was pulling up
- 37:26Speaker 2: his numbers because I was curious on Josh. His completion
- 37:30Speaker 2: percentage is up seven percent over last year. His yards
- 37:34Speaker 2: per attempt is, you know, almost identical, seven to six
- 37:37Speaker 2: last year, seven to five this year. Last year was
- 37:39Speaker 2: thirty five touchdowns fourteen picks. This year fifteen and seven.
- 37:43Speaker 2: So that ratio is a little bit off. But if
- 37:45Speaker 2: you buy into ratings, I mean his rating and his
- 37:47Speaker 2: QBR are both up over last year. His rating right
- 37:50Speaker 2: now is the highest of his career, which seems crazy. Yeah,
- 37:55Speaker 2: it just seems crazy because you watch it and it
- 37:57Speaker 2: does feel disjointing joining the right way put it, But
- 38:00Speaker 2: on paper, when you look at it, it's like he's
- 38:03Speaker 2: having his best year. It's that's hard to it's hard
- 38:07Speaker 2: to wrap my mind around because I was thinking the
- 38:08Speaker 2: point I was going to make was, man it you
- 38:11Speaker 2: know this, I feel like this young group of superstars.
- 38:15Speaker 2: When you look at Burrow and some of the adversity
- 38:17Speaker 2: he's faced this year, Herbert has been down and it
- 38:21Speaker 2: hasn't been as easy of a ride for him. Josh
- 38:23Speaker 2: Allen's been down a little bit even, you know, until
- 38:25Speaker 2: this last week, Mahomes, with the other worldly standards he
- 38:29Speaker 2: had set for himself, wasn't quite what he had been.
- 38:32Speaker 2: I think we're seeing these young guys get challenged a
- 38:34Speaker 2: little bit.
- 38:35Speaker 3: Yeah, we are seeing him get challenged, and it's just
- 38:37Speaker 3: not it's just not what you expected. We thought this
- 38:40Speaker 3: team would be ready to go now firmly, I believe
- 38:43Speaker 3: that they were going to be on the decent. I
- 38:45Speaker 3: didn't think they would stay up there. But I'm just
- 38:47Speaker 3: surprised that the struggles they were seeing from the squad.
- 38:51Speaker 2: All right, but how about falcons and bucks here in
- 38:53Speaker 2: a game. I'm gonna be honest on the road and
- 38:55Speaker 2: traveling until I look down at the paper, I don't
- 38:57Speaker 2: even know who won the game.
- 38:58Speaker 4: Oh you are you? You weren't excited about the look.
- 39:06Speaker 2: I just like to be honest with the listeners. I
- 39:08Speaker 2: don't I don't want to fake it. I didn't see
- 39:11Speaker 2: any of this game the.
- 39:12Speaker 4: King of the South.
- 39:13Speaker 2: I mean, that's still tell me as if I didn't know,
- 39:16Speaker 2: pretend like I didn't know.
- 39:17Speaker 4: Okay, Okay, so this this is okay.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Arthur Smith in his sideline antics and we've seen him
- 39:25Speaker 3: basically look like he has uh may lox or pepto
- 39:28Speaker 3: bismol or whatever like he has it at his side
- 39:30Speaker 3: when he's watching his quarterback Desmond, and I think he
- 39:35Speaker 3: probably doubled up. I think he was double fisted on
- 39:37Speaker 3: the sideline with pepto because Desmond ritter.
- 39:43Speaker 4: He's three fumbles, he lost three fumbles, three three.
- 39:51Speaker 3: Going into the end zone, being careless with the ball,
- 39:54Speaker 3: quarterback sneaks like those things things where this game should
- 39:58Speaker 3: have been. Look, they comfortably won this game, but because
- 40:02Speaker 3: of those miscues and eras, it didn't happen the way
- 40:06Speaker 3: that it should happen. Now, as great as he made
- 40:08Speaker 3: a play to help him get down, hit cal piss
- 40:10Speaker 3: on a strike to put him in field goal range,
- 40:12Speaker 3: but his carelessness with the football is going to drive
- 40:16Speaker 3: Arthur Smith to engage in some adult beverages or some
- 40:19Speaker 3: vicen he doesn't need to handle. Iving my fellow Tarrio
- 40:24Speaker 3: crazy with this turnout.
- 40:26Speaker 4: The first team to lose three red zone fumbles in
- 40:29Speaker 4: a game in twenty years Polish trap. Well, that's why
- 40:33Speaker 4: we've been that red zone.
- 40:34Speaker 2: So again, I'm just not talking about this game specifically,
- 40:37Speaker 2: but that's why when we get to the offseason, we
- 40:39Speaker 2: want to fast forward to the topics of conversation. The
- 40:43Speaker 2: Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons has been to move
- 40:45Speaker 2: the sticks. Move that we have all three endorsed, the
- 40:48Speaker 2: first stamp on that that's the move that should happen.
- 40:51Speaker 2: That team's ready to go. Man, they got a good group.
- 40:53Speaker 2: They're ready to go right now.
- 40:55Speaker 5: And Bejeon barely even played.
- 40:57Speaker 4: By the way, what happened. He was sick, he says something.
- 41:00Speaker 4: He had headaches.
- 41:01Speaker 3: He had headaches the night before and then it led
- 41:03Speaker 3: into the next morning and so he didn't didn't He
- 41:06Speaker 3: can't give you a hard days. The good days work.
- 41:08Speaker 4: I'll tell you this. I'll tell you this, man.
- 41:10Speaker 2: I'm in a fantasy football league, that one that I've
- 41:12Speaker 2: played in since I was in high school. And this
- 41:15Speaker 2: is the worst fantasy football team I've ever had my
- 41:17Speaker 2: entire life. And I took I took Bijon with like
- 41:19Speaker 2: the third pick. I'm like he's going to lead the
- 41:21Speaker 2: league in rushing. He's a freak. And then I looked
- 41:23Speaker 2: at the box score and I was like, wait, what
- 41:26Speaker 2: what happened?
- 41:28Speaker 4: Yeah, he didn't play.
- 41:30Speaker 2: Hasn't been great for my squad. By the way, of course,
- 41:32Speaker 2: I didn't play George Pickens the one week that he
- 41:34Speaker 2: goes off too. So whatever, team, Enough about my fantasy team,
- 41:38Speaker 2: anything on the Bucks side of things before we move
- 41:40Speaker 2: on to this next game.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Heyet, I mean I don't I don't particularly think I
- 41:47Speaker 1: don't want.
- 41:47Speaker 4: To talk about Bucks. Yeah, I mean, guys, it wasn't
- 41:51Speaker 4: the story of the game.
- 41:52Speaker 5: It just wasn't the story of the game.
- 41:54Speaker 3: The story of the game with the Falcons allowing the
- 41:56Speaker 3: Buccaneers to hang around when.
- 41:57Speaker 1: The Bucks don't have a run game, Like, we talked
- 42:00Speaker 1: a lot, and you want to talk about fantasy, and
- 42:02Speaker 1: the fantasy community talked forever this offseason about Rashad White, like, yeah,
- 42:07Speaker 1: he caught the passes and you know, and that still
- 42:09Speaker 1: gets points. But I mean they're not running the football,
- 42:13Speaker 1: you know. And look, they really didn't a ton while
- 42:15Speaker 1: Tom was there either, but it kind of shows up.
- 42:17Speaker 5: It feels like a little bit more now.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Interesting, all right, last one on the Big eight here,
- 42:22Speaker 2: let's go rhtt. You had the Steelers and the Rams.
- 42:24Speaker 2: A big win on the road for the Steelers, who,
- 42:26Speaker 2: by the way, I feel like we talked about how
- 42:29Speaker 2: physical their camp was before the season started. We talked
- 42:32Speaker 2: about how this team like there's a toughness and a
- 42:35Speaker 2: greediness to them, and then they get their doors blown
- 42:37Speaker 2: off by the forty nine Ers and we're like, oh,
- 42:39Speaker 2: maybe we just missed a boat on that, and it's like, no,
- 42:41Speaker 2: they're just it's not aesthetically pleasing, but once again, they
- 42:45Speaker 2: just find a way to win games.
- 42:47Speaker 1: Yeah, you want to talk about not aesthetically pleasing, that's
- 42:51Speaker 1: spending two hours on your commute home after that.
- 42:54Speaker 5: Ram Steelers came from so.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Far yesterday, gos, tough Steelers, a lot of Steeler fans
- 42:59Speaker 2: and the.
- 42:59Speaker 4: Lot Yes, indeed, So.
- 43:06Speaker 1: This game was was kind of interesting, right, I mean,
- 43:08Speaker 1: obviously the Rams running back room was injury depleted, Kyen
- 43:11Speaker 1: Williams out, rivers out, so they had they called up,
- 43:14Speaker 1: you know, everybody from the practice squad, Royce Freeman, Darryl Henderson,
- 43:17Speaker 1: the old friend comes down on the mach Yeah, I know,
- 43:21Speaker 1: and it's still found some productivity there, and I think,
- 43:24Speaker 1: you know, all of us that were worried about Pooka
- 43:25Speaker 1: and Akua's production with Cooper cup came back. Just turns
- 43:28Speaker 1: out it just probably helps a little bit, you know,
- 43:30Speaker 1: to have Cooper in there. I mean, and Bucky and
- 43:32Speaker 1: I were talking about it on Game Day Live. I mean,
- 43:35Speaker 1: I don't know if there's a team that executes the
- 43:36Speaker 1: end cuts at at all levels of the of the
- 43:39Speaker 1: defense better than the Rams do with the way that
- 43:41Speaker 1: Stafford can sling it in the way that Pooka and
- 43:43Speaker 1: Cooper find openings down the field in that area.
- 43:47Speaker 5: So that was big.
- 43:48Speaker 1: But this really comes down to the fourth quarter for me,
- 43:51Speaker 1: really the third and fourth quarter with the Steelers. Third
- 43:54Speaker 1: quarter because t J. Watt picks off Matthew Stafford sets
- 43:57Speaker 1: up the Steelers offense, they punched it into the end
- 43:59Speaker 1: zone their back like they're starting to get that momentum.
- 44:02Speaker 1: And then in the fourth quarter, I thought, is really
- 44:04Speaker 1: where this thing kind of came to play. They had
- 44:07Speaker 1: the Steelers ran twenty three plays in the fourth quarter,
- 44:10Speaker 1: sixteen of them were runs, eleven first downs in the
- 44:14Speaker 1: fourth It's like they remembered who they were for a second,
- 44:17Speaker 1: you know, what I mean, it was Najie Harris, it.
- 44:19Speaker 5: Was Warren like they were all.
- 44:21Speaker 1: I mean, they got into the game, like almost all
- 44:24Speaker 1: of their rushing yardage for the game comes in the
- 44:27Speaker 1: fourth quarter.
- 44:27Speaker 4: Like Dwayne Washington.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Was in there making some big plays as the you know,
- 44:32Speaker 1: quote unquote sixth offensive lineman, but as another tight end there,
- 44:35Speaker 1: Kenny was flawless. Kenny Pickett in the in the fourth quarter,
- 44:38Speaker 1: he went seven for seven, had a big time back
- 44:40Speaker 1: shoulder throw to George Picktts throw the game on a
- 44:44Speaker 1: third and three, like Isaac Somalo peals off to try
- 44:47Speaker 1: to help the left packle as they put Aaron Donald
- 44:50Speaker 1: out rushing out wide on the left tackle and he's
- 44:53Speaker 1: about to take care of a picket, but Smalu tries
- 44:57Speaker 1: to come over there, ends up body checking picket. Some How,
- 45:00Speaker 1: he still gets his ball off and it goes right
- 45:02Speaker 1: into the into the hands of Pickens on a on
- 45:05Speaker 1: a third and three on the final drive. That allowed
- 45:07Speaker 1: them to essentially to essentially kind of run the deal out.
- 45:11Speaker 1: And and maybe the biggest thing and the biggest difference
- 45:13Speaker 1: here is that they had the Matt Canada camera up
- 45:16Speaker 1: there in the booth and he was actually had something
- 45:19Speaker 1: to celebrate, Like it was not the misery can like
- 45:22Speaker 1: he was actually up there.
- 45:23Speaker 5: It's like let's go, you know, it was.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Like feeling it, Like I just felt like they had
- 45:27Speaker 1: a rhythm, they had a they had a you know,
- 45:28Speaker 1: a commitment to the run game in that fourth quarter
- 45:30Speaker 1: and maybe just maybe, Bucky, it's something for them to
- 45:34Speaker 1: build on real quick.
- 45:35Speaker 2: Though, Buck is is uh? Is Dwayne Washington related to
- 45:38Speaker 2: Darnel Washington? Sorry, that's.
- 45:41Speaker 4: Got my Washington.
- 45:46Speaker 5: Washington.
- 45:46Speaker 2: I was ready to I had that that punch and
- 45:48Speaker 2: loaded and ready to go, and I had to sit
- 45:50Speaker 2: there and hold it for a while to be able
- 45:52Speaker 2: to get that thing in there.
- 45:52Speaker 4: But thanks man.
- 45:53Speaker 5: Sorry, sorry Darnell.
- 45:55Speaker 4: Not bad, Budd. That's okay, we we we got.
- 45:58Speaker 2: I think Dwayne Washington played for the Steelers though, right,
- 46:01Speaker 2: why not?
- 46:01Speaker 5: Maybe no.
- 46:05Speaker 4: Cornerback. He's drafted by the Vikings.
- 46:06Speaker 5: There's been there's been a couple.
- 46:08Speaker 3: Okay, nice, go ahead, Buck, Sorry about Look, this is
- 46:13Speaker 3: this is what we talk about with the Steelers. Man,
- 46:15Speaker 3: They just find a way to get to the winner circle.
- 46:17Speaker 3: It's never pretty. It's just effective. As much as people
- 46:21Speaker 3: aid Matt Canada, he just somehow finds a way to
- 46:23Speaker 3: draw up enough place for them to score enough points
- 46:26Speaker 3: to win games, and he will continue to be there,
- 46:28Speaker 3: probably be there twenty years from now, as the OC
- 46:30Speaker 3: will still be talking about it.
- 46:31Speaker 4: But that's how it goes.
- 46:33Speaker 3: The big thing was George Pickens being a factor, George
- 46:35Speaker 3: Pickens kind of showing up and making some plays and
- 46:38Speaker 3: finally getting to think like Dat Johnson also being there.
- 46:42Speaker 4: I mean, they got guys. Alan Robinson made a big catch.
- 46:45Speaker 4: I mean, they have enough guys.
- 46:46Speaker 3: It's just a matter of organizing the play sheet where
- 46:48Speaker 3: those guys can touch it. They just haven't done it.
- 46:51Speaker 3: So we'll see if they can get it together down
- 46:53Speaker 3: the stretch. But this team is gonna be there. They're
- 46:54Speaker 3: gonna be in the conversation.
- 46:55Speaker 2: They're the cockroach. They're the cockroach of the AFC North.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Like we'll talk about one week called the Ravens of
- 46:59Speaker 2: the best team and it's like, oh, the Browns have
- 47:01Speaker 2: this all time defense, and it's like, you know, the Bengals,
- 47:04Speaker 2: they'll get it going. You know, I'll get bur He'll
- 47:05Speaker 2: be back. And it's like Steelers, you're not killing the Steelers.
- 47:08Speaker 2: They're going to be there. Whoever else is at the party.
- 47:11Speaker 2: We'll see, but you can write it in ink that
- 47:13Speaker 2: the Steelers will be.
- 47:13Speaker 4: There at the end.
- 47:14Speaker 5: Darnell's going to be there. Boys, that's going to be there.
- 47:17Speaker 4: That's right, Darnell, Dwayne or whatever. It's all the same starting.
- 47:22Speaker 2: How about if I was going to go headline and
- 47:26Speaker 2: I'll go back and forth with you guys, will go
- 47:28Speaker 2: kind of rapid fire here, but just the headline takeaway
- 47:32Speaker 2: from these other ones, buck the Raiders and the Bears.
- 47:35Speaker 2: The Bears smash the Raiders thirty to twelve. What's the headline?
- 47:40Speaker 3: Why star Brian hoy I just know, like like why,
- 47:44Speaker 3: because this was a situation where I understood, like the
- 47:47Speaker 3: previous week, Jimmy Garoppolo gets her second half. You put
- 47:50Speaker 3: Brian Hoy in because he's a guy that's probably most
- 47:52Speaker 3: ready to play without reps. But now you had a
- 47:55Speaker 3: full week to prepare. Ain't no Cone should be in
- 47:56Speaker 3: the starting quarterback. We have seen what this Brian Hory
- 47:58Speaker 3: thing looks like. It doesn't look great, and it didn't
- 48:01Speaker 3: look great against the Chicago Bears. And this is one
- 48:05Speaker 3: where if you're a Raiders fan, you're looking at just
- 48:07Speaker 3: from Daniels one, they're like man like, let's put the
- 48:09Speaker 3: young guy in. Let's give him a chance. And it
- 48:11Speaker 3: also look you win and got Jimmy G. This had
- 48:15Speaker 3: to be part of the equation. When you got Jimmy G.
- 48:17Speaker 3: He's not a guy that's a seventeen game starter. He's
- 48:20Speaker 3: a twelve to thirteen game starter. And you need to
- 48:22Speaker 3: have a good quarterback too. And I thought a and
- 48:24Speaker 3: O'Connell would be the guy to get the.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Ball well, and we talked about it on the show Buck.
- 48:30Speaker 1: But you know, I think Brian hoyerk sells at being
- 48:33Speaker 1: QB two coming in, you know, as you mentioned, with
- 48:35Speaker 1: zero reps and being able to effectively lead the offense
- 48:38Speaker 1: the way he did a week ago. But as is
- 48:40Speaker 1: the case with many backup quarterbacks, you start exposing them
- 48:44Speaker 1: to more reps in a role like this against the Bears,
- 48:47Speaker 1: and sometimes that's when you see why that they are
- 48:51Speaker 1: QB two.
- 48:52Speaker 2: And that is that the line, by the way, you
- 48:55Speaker 2: remember when we were in high school whatever, the line
- 48:57Speaker 2: was good from far but far from good.
- 49:00Speaker 4: Yeah, it's Brian Hoyer. It's good few with something.
- 49:06Speaker 5: Yeah, you know what I mean. But here's the other thing,
- 49:09Speaker 5: the other takeaway on that one.
- 49:12Speaker 1: Why does everyone want to throw Deontay Foreman out onto
- 49:15Speaker 1: the trash heap after one year? I mean like he's
- 49:17Speaker 1: been on three teams and three years, it feels like
- 49:19Speaker 1: and every time he gets the ball he's like a one
- 49:21Speaker 1: hundred yard rusher. He had three touchdowns in his game.
- 49:23Speaker 1: Why is he gonna play for the Panthers right now
- 49:25Speaker 1: where he was a year ago? I mean, like you
- 49:28Speaker 1: still in Tennessee, I don't.
- 49:30Speaker 2: Roster that Panthers roster of you know, eighteen months ago
- 49:34Speaker 2: looks a lot better than that Panthers roster does right now.
- 49:36Speaker 2: I can tell you that much.
- 49:37Speaker 4: Yeah, they play a lot different too. What else we got?
- 49:40Speaker 4: All right?
- 49:40Speaker 2: Next one here? Uh, let's go rat. You can hit
- 49:43Speaker 2: this one because you're the official Giants watcher of the
- 49:47Speaker 2: podcast fourteen to seven.
- 49:49Speaker 1: Yeah, you know that they got some run game productivity
- 49:58Speaker 1: from Saquon Barkley and and I think the biggest takeaway
- 50:01Speaker 1: is that they found Darren Waller. They remember Darren Waller
- 50:04Speaker 1: is there and is one of the best tight ends
- 50:05Speaker 1: in the league. He goes for seven ninety eight in
- 50:08Speaker 1: a touchdown and that was essentially all they needed. Defense
- 50:11Speaker 1: played well in the game.
- 50:12Speaker 2: There you go and by the way, I thought the
- 50:13Speaker 2: other piece of information that came out of this was
- 50:16Speaker 2: it looks like they are going to get their left
- 50:18Speaker 2: tackle back for next week's game against the Jets, which
- 50:22Speaker 2: is going to be thirteen to ten, and it's going
- 50:24Speaker 2: to be a slugfest Battle of New York.
- 50:27Speaker 4: They're looking forward to that one.
- 50:28Speaker 2: All all right, Buck the Cardinals, they're competitive, but the
- 50:31Speaker 2: Seahawks get him twenty to ten. Jake Bobo with a touchdown,
- 50:34Speaker 2: skelch Jake jag Bo with a touchdown. How about the
- 50:37Speaker 2: two rookies. Yeah, two rookie stepping up.
- 50:39Speaker 3: I thought it was interesting about Bobo is how DK
- 50:41Speaker 3: Metcalf has talked about he looked at Jake Bobo as
- 50:45Speaker 3: inspiration in terms of how to work and how to
- 50:47Speaker 3: prepare to play in the National Football League.
- 50:49Speaker 4: He talked about Bobo has.
- 50:51Speaker 3: Been one of the guys that from a route running standpoint,
- 50:53Speaker 3: he's been impressed with, and so he watches how he's
- 50:56Speaker 3: been able to work himself into being a pro and
- 50:58Speaker 3: how he's earned everything.
- 50:59Speaker 4: He's tried to take all some of that.
- 51:00Speaker 3: I just think with the Seattle Seahawks, they're young guys
- 51:03Speaker 3: stepping up and playing you didn't get a chance to
- 51:06Speaker 3: see it, but Devin with his phone absolutely splattered somebody
- 51:11Speaker 3: in the flat, just absolutely like didn't matter.
- 51:16Speaker 5: Yeah it was Rondell Moore, I think, I mean.
- 51:18Speaker 3: Just cut him down two inches, I mean, just destroyed him.
- 51:22Speaker 3: And the Seahawks didn't play great, but they ran the
- 51:24Speaker 3: ball effective. He kend of walk ahead over one hundred yards.
- 51:27Speaker 3: Geno was fine. The wide receivers continue to make plays.
- 51:29Speaker 3: But this is a team that they're not good enough
- 51:33Speaker 3: in my mind to be one of those top seeds,
- 51:35Speaker 3: one of those top four season in NFC.
- 51:37Speaker 4: But that could be a little problem in the tournament.
- 51:40Speaker 2: Yeah, they can win a game. They could win a
- 51:41Speaker 2: game in the tournament. I mean, I don't know. That's interesting,
- 51:44Speaker 2: all right? The last one here, Buck, you can handle this.
- 51:48Speaker 2: Packers Broncos. I felt like, I don't know, refresh my memory.
- 51:55Speaker 2: I feel like you were pro Packers early on in
- 51:59Speaker 2: the year, thinking they're not going to skip a beat,
- 52:01Speaker 2: and yeah I was, will feel the same way about
- 52:04Speaker 2: their situation.
- 52:05Speaker 4: I was.
- 52:05Speaker 3: But you know what I'm gonna do, because I humble
- 52:08Speaker 3: produced ne Bill, I'm gonna do like Nebill, I changed
- 52:11Speaker 3: my mind.
- 52:11Speaker 4: I don't feel it's.
- 52:12Speaker 3: Right about that. I don't feel it's great about them
- 52:15Speaker 3: after watching them. It was a lot more in theory
- 52:18Speaker 3: more so than in practical application. I thought this team
- 52:21Speaker 3: was gonna be able to run the football where Aaron
- 52:23Speaker 3: Jones and aj Dillon and they just don't play big
- 52:26Speaker 3: boy ball, and the fact that somehow the Broncos allowed
- 52:30Speaker 3: them to close the gap. The Broncos dominated the game
- 52:32Speaker 3: for the most part. I mean, they were in control
- 52:35Speaker 3: of the game, and they let the Packers sneak back
- 52:37Speaker 3: in This Packer team and we're learning And this is
- 52:39Speaker 3: what I was curious.
- 52:40Speaker 4: I wanted to see what Matt Lafloyd looked like without.
- 52:43Speaker 3: Having the four time MVP Aaron Rodgers, and it looked
- 52:47Speaker 3: like what I thought it would look like. He has
- 52:49Speaker 3: to figure out how to get this team with what
- 52:50Speaker 3: he has to play at a higher level. And they're
- 52:53Speaker 3: just not playing well enough in terms of on defense
- 52:57Speaker 3: and in the running game to be able to do it.
- 52:58Speaker 4: With Jordan Levit quarterback.
- 53:00Speaker 1: They got to get their offensive line fixed. It's become
- 53:03Speaker 1: an issue. Josh Meyer's got hurt in this game. We
- 53:05Speaker 1: obviously we know Baktiari's what he's been dealing with It's
- 53:09Speaker 1: it's not what they have going up there up front
- 53:11Speaker 1: right now is not conducive to the way that they
- 53:13Speaker 1: want to play this game.
- 53:14Speaker 2: Interesting, by the way, quick kids story. When my youngest
- 53:18Speaker 2: son was playing soccer for the first year, so I
- 53:21Speaker 2: don't know, five six years old, they're have their first
- 53:25Speaker 2: game and the coaches, uh, got the team together, and
- 53:28Speaker 2: so they've got the goalie jersey right, and they go, hey,
- 53:31Speaker 2: who's who wants who wants to play goalie? You know,
- 53:34Speaker 2: and none of the kids raise their hand. I'm just
- 53:35Speaker 2: watching this whole thing, and my son's first time playing soccer.
- 53:38Speaker 2: He raised his hand. Yeah, play goalie. Put the jersey
- 53:41Speaker 2: on trot's back out there, gets in front of the goal.
- 53:44Speaker 2: All the other team comes on the field, they blow
- 53:47Speaker 2: the whistle to start the game, and he raises his
- 53:49Speaker 2: hand from the goalie box goes I changed my mind.
- 53:51Speaker 4: I changed my mind. I didn't want it. They didn't
- 53:56Speaker 4: want that smoker goalie.
- 54:00Speaker 2: Sounded like a great It's not like, hey, I get
- 54:02Speaker 2: it a cool jersey. This is gonna be fun. And
- 54:05Speaker 2: I think that five six year old brain started thinking, Man,
- 54:07Speaker 2: they're gonna star peppering some of these soccer balls.
- 54:09Speaker 4: I mean, I don't like this. I don't like this
- 54:10Speaker 4: very much. Get me out of here. Yeah.
- 54:13Speaker 2: The best that was raising his hand because it was
- 54:15Speaker 2: like it was proper.
- 54:16Speaker 4: It was.
- 54:16Speaker 2: It was very professional, it was very respectful, just very polite. Hey,
- 54:20Speaker 2: I changed my mind for good. No, I get somebody
- 54:22Speaker 2: else in here. By the way, you're not you can't.
- 54:25Speaker 2: He didn't, was not I was able to do that
- 54:27Speaker 2: at the start of the game. So I'm I'm the
- 54:29Speaker 2: dad who runs behind the net, and I'm gonna like
- 54:32Speaker 2: try and encourage him and coach him. The referee those
- 54:35Speaker 2: are coaching behind the net.
- 54:37Speaker 4: You can't.
- 54:37Speaker 2: I'm like, these kids are five six years old.
- 54:40Speaker 4: That come on, man.
- 54:41Speaker 2: Anyways, he made it, he lived, he's still he's still
- 54:43Speaker 2: with us. So he's good. Good. That's that's funny.
- 54:47Speaker 4: Is that a classic? H I love that?
- 54:50Speaker 2: All right. Remind you guys, we're gonna be back with
- 54:51Speaker 2: four more episodes this week, including a movie six video
- 54:54Speaker 2: show that streams four pm Pacific every Tuesday on the
- 54:58Speaker 2: NFL Fast Channel. So again, five pods a week, five
- 55:02Speaker 2: shows a week, including that video show. If you haven't
- 55:04Speaker 2: done it already, we encourage to subscribe, leave us A
- 55:06Speaker 2: rating review. We do appreciate those. It's been a fun
- 55:10Speaker 2: one boys. Let's do it again tomorrow. Sound good, sounds great,
- 55:13Speaker 2: See you guys next time. Right here on, move the sticks.
