  of an offshoot from we're talking about, you know, viral

  content and things like that. This video that teapot did on

  his market movers channel where he sent the same 2 cards to, you

  know, like 6 different grading companies after he had sent the
• 1:16
  Griffey that used in the video to grading companies last year.

  And there's just this crazy wide variation of, of results.

  And you know the I just if you did you watch the video or did

  you watch kind of like? You just kind of is that on Jeff

  pulls the thing off for the the Beckett and it says that it came

  and it came back authentic, altered the his reaction is just

  absolutely incredible. So obviously it's created a lot

  of discussion and stuff. And so I'm just going to ask

  start with the question. Just ask you this question Matt.

  Your opinion is grading a scam. It's a loaded question.

  So I think, I think the way that the grading companies do it,

  yes, the idea that a third party grades your card and then it's

  easier to sell the card and buy the card based on condition.

  That way it's you or I versus my eye on raw cards.

  Yeah, it's easier when a when a third party just kind of said,

  well, this is kind of what we see.

  I love that as far as that, but they stay all stink at it.

  Nobody's any good at it. That's the problem.

  The reason why I don't think rating is a scam is because you

  are paying for a service and you get that service in return.

  how I got scammed doing the, you know, but trying to buy cars to

  build my 59 set. When I first got back into

  collecting, that was me giving somebody money who took my money

  and never and never mailed me cards that I thought I was

  buying. That was a scam.

  So that, yeah, OK, so that that almost doesn't matter until it

  gets back to Beckett. And so that's my point.

  Started there, he graded it like 6 or 8 times whatever, and ended

  up back with Beckett at the very last stop and it came back

  authentic, altered. You know, look, my thought again

  is that like grading companies for their purpose should exist

  to protect, protect buyers. They should to protect people
• 5:13
  who buy cards. I don't think it's not a bad

  thing. I, I think about this often

  where, you know, there's somebody, that someone locally
• 5:23
  who you and I know who comes up to your tables or kind of a
• 5:27
  regular customer who told me about how he got a bunch of
• 5:31
  autograph cards graded that he bought when he was like a kid in
• 5:35
  the 80s. He got, he, he got them graded
• 5:38
  within by PSA in the last year. And I think half of them or more
• 5:41
  than half of them came back counterfeit, you know, and now,
• 5:45
  now, does that mean that every autograph that's in APSA slab
• 5:49
  is, is authentic? Not necessarily.
• 5:52
  I'm sure that there are, there are, there are autographs in PSA
• 5:55
  slabs that are, that are fake, that aren't.
• 5:58
  But, but by and large, can you, can you trust it?

  Should you trust it? I think that you, you can, you

  should, I mean these, you know, again, we talked, we talked in
• 6:08
  our regular episode about how PSA guarantees their grades.

  You know, that's one instance where I feel like you could be

  able to to trust. Doesn't guarantee their grades,

  they guarantee authenticity. They guarantee authenticity,

  That's OK. So but but we're talking about I

  think that what I'm talking about is about authenticity.

  So I think that there is definitely there's there's value

  in the authenticity portion of it.

  I mean the name. It's in the name Professional

  Sports Authenticators. And there's so many and there's
• 6:40
  so many people out there that can't, that don't know how to
• 6:44
  spot a fake. We talked about this, you know.

  Last week on the hit. List on the hit list last week

  about, you know the star Jordan and and you know all of that
• 6:54
  actually, no, that was on the clubhouse we did that that was.

  On wasn't the. Clubhouse.

  Yeah, that was last week we talked about this about, you

  know, even like experienced people have a hard time catching
• 7:04
  fakes and catching catching. Yeah, I.

  So having a having a third party there makes sense.

  But yeah, but that's that's not necessarily what people grade

  cards for. They grade cards to get for

  grading as opposed to authentication.

  And yeah, it's very frustrating to put your faith in that system

  where it's very, it's so inconsistent.

  And I think that I think that the really important thing that

  you that I think we have to remember is that unless you're

  sending your cards to tag who they do everything by AI, by
• 7:36
  computers. Didn't didn't he do the He did

  tag also and they came back a. Mess.

  Yeah. Well, because they apparently

  because they said that the the Griffey wouldn't fit in the
• 7:45
  holder, which is bizarre. And that that, that because he
• 7:49
  says, you know, it was oversized, but SGC had said that
• 7:51
  it was trimmed, which is just like.

  What are we doing? Wow, that's wild.

  Is that wild? That's wild.

  It shows. You how crazy it is but but but

  the point of me bringing up tag is that tag is supposed to do
• 8:01
  everything by AI. Tag is supposed to do everything
• 8:04
  by computers. It's, you know, there's like
• 8:06
  human spot checking on it, but everything else is graded by a
• 8:10
  human. And, you know, I don't know,
• 8:12
  like I've, I, I don't think I'm going to do this, but I've had a
• 8:15
  thought recently that there are some SGC cards that I have in
• 8:22
  authentics labs that I don't know, like it's borderline to me
• 8:28
  as to why they're in, why they're in an authentic slab.

  It could be that whoever sent them in maybe wanted just was
• 8:34
  looking for, you know, to have them authenticated as opposed to
• 8:38
  getting a number grade. And I have thought about, well,
• 8:40
  what if I snap these out and sent them and to see if I could
• 8:42
  get a number, if I can get a number grade on these.

  I don't really think I'm going to do it because they're just
• 8:47
  PC. They're PC cards.

  I don't really. I'm not looking to to flip them.

  I've. Been thinking about doing that

  lately for a few calls. Just kind of I just kind of want

  to do my own experiment there you.

  Go I think about it I I do think that this teapot thing may lead

  to other sort of. Experimentation, you know, Oh, I

  think also too is as we talked about this in the hit list and

  dealer interaction that the kid recorded.

  I think that's going to be happening more and more.

  I would love for it to happen in the vintage space.

  As far as like, let's take the opportunity here to talk a

  little bit about the stick, about stickers, because that's

  been something that's come up a lot recently.

  What, what's your, what is your opinion on if you see a card

  with the the, with either Mike Baker sticker or the sort of old
• 9:39
  PWCC sticker or that kind of thing, Like what do you think

  about that? I'm a fan of all right, you got

  to say this right, PWCC out. I don't care.

  It means nothing to me, nothing. So I'm just going to talk about
• 9:51
  the MV stickers. I'm not.

  From what I heard he has negative history in the hobby.

  Certainly does. This concerns me.

  Yeah. But man, when you see that gold

  sticker, man, that card usually is beautiful.

  So I like that. I don't know.

  I don't know, it helps too, because when you're as a vintage

  dealer, as we know, I appeal matters so much more than any

  other kind of, you know, the modern stuff, ultra modern stuff

  that I like that it has that that sticker that says, hey,

  this might be priced high because of its eye appeal rather
• 10:28
  than having to have that conversation.

  I don't mind having the conversation, but this just for
• 10:32
  the educated, more educated guys that know what that sticker
• 10:35
  means, they're going to understand.

  So I do like from that point of view.

  On the face of it, to me, it feels like it's like, you know,
• 10:43
  grading existed to grade the cards and now these stickers
• 10:47
  exist to grade the graders that are grading the cards.

  So. OK, but that's coming from

  another third party that wasn't doing grading what Mike Baker
• 10:55
  was saying, what they are now. But I'm talking about how it
• 10:58
  started, though. What Mike Baker and his company

  was saying was those guys are inconsistent.

  We're going to help tighten the ship on the backside if you're
• 11:05
  interested. Yeah, it's an angle.

  It works. The business obviously makes
• 11:10
  money. You don't have to be a fan of
• 11:11
  it. I'm wondering if, you know, this

  makes me think about especially vintage because of like how SGC
• 11:18
  has, you know, lost a lot of its luster for a for a variety of
• 11:24
  different. Reasons.

  So the standards have gone down. The standards have gone down

  like they're they're taking, you know, they've like 8X to their
• 11:31
  their turn around times. You know, their customer service
• 11:34
  stanks like and you look at PSA and they are very sort of you
• 11:40
  know, they've they've they've taken on it sounds like a lot of
• 11:43
  the SGC grading talent, but like, you know, do you watch
• 11:47
  there's a channel shout, I'll shout him out.

  His name is Papa Rossi talking ball cards.

  Do you do you ever watch his stuff?

  He does a ton of grading reveals.

  He always he's he's done them for years.

  He said at the end of this most recent video.

  He's like, I've sent thousands of cards to both PSA and SGC.

  The he would, he sent a bunch of cards to PSA.

  He got more half grades in his it was vintage.

  It was almost all vintage. I think he got more half grades
• 12:16
  from PSA in his in his submission that he had just done
• 12:20
  that he had ever gotten in any PSA submission that he'd ever
• 12:24
  done over the course of years and sending in literally
• 12:26
  thousands of cards. OK, and he said he thinks that
• 12:30
  in part, I believe he said that that's because of they've taken
• 12:34
  on SGC graders and they're the ones that are grading the
• 12:37
  vintage cars. Interesting.

  And, and that so, and, and I think that that's, that's so as
• 12:43
  somebody that sends a lot of stuff into PSA, he, he sounded
• 12:46
  pretty frustrated by that because I, I agree that usually,
• 12:51
  you know, I don't, I've historically haven't sent a ton

  of cards to PSA, but I didn't really get very many half grades
• 12:56
  like that, that, that was definitely rare.

  So I, I think, I mean, and I'm, I'm generally, I'm like opposed

  to half grades in general. And it cause 'cause yeah, SG,

  well, SGC hands out half grades like candy And they, they have

  done that. That's not nothing, that's

  nothing new. But it's like, it's fence

  straddling. Like what is it?

  Is it a three or is it a four? Well, it's a three and a.

  do it where you kind of get a bump if the card looked a little

  like these companies all getting bought up by collectors, you
