- 0:15Speaker 1: the Return to Glory podcast.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Return to Glory podcast. Hunter Zarbonicki, Austin Rose here. Thursday,
- 0:37Speaker 2: Indiana preview. The game we're slowly waiting for here all week.
- 0:46Speaker 2: It's just, it's been a long week. I'll say that
- 0:50Speaker 2: for me anyways, waiting for this game.
- 0:54Speaker 3: I don't know if I'd say it's felt long because
- 0:59Speaker 3: there's just that, maybe it's because I think it's good.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Because there isn't this... It's not like this, oh, man, like.
- 1:06Speaker 4: I don't know. We're not.
- 1:11Speaker 3: There's a little less pressure than I think we've seen
- 1:13Speaker 3: in the past with some of these games where we
- 1:15Speaker 3: accidentally get bumped up to rank number 25 and then
- 1:18Speaker 3: we play a ranked opponent at home.
- 1:20Speaker 4: And get smacked. So maybe that's good. I'm very excited
- 1:24Speaker 4: for this game. I'm very excited.
- 1:26Speaker 2: The Indiana 7th in the AP poll. Nebraska not rated.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I watched stretches last night against Northwestern and Rutgers, and
- 1:40Speaker 2: I guess my biggest overall one takeaway, if you had
- 1:46Speaker 2: to say I had one thing, is how comfortable Indiana is,
- 1:52Speaker 2: and this is, I guess, when Indiana's on offense, but
- 1:54Speaker 2: when Josh Hoover is able to just identify and dissect defenses. They're, they're,
- 2:02Speaker 2: they're very balanced on offense. They have a really solid
- 2:06Speaker 2: run game. And, and, and I think my one take is,
- 2:12Speaker 2: is very like overall echoing, probably what the coaching staff says. Like,
- 2:20Speaker 2: if you listen to rule, you listen to Holgerson this week,
- 2:23Speaker 2: they are all praise as they should be with this
- 2:27Speaker 2: Indiana squad. And yeah, they're comfortable doing what they like
- 2:35Speaker 2: to do because they're good at it and they're going
- 2:37Speaker 2: to redo it over and over. And they brought in
- 2:39Speaker 2: a quarterback and Josh Hoover that people have question marks about.
- 2:44Speaker 5: Well, guess what?
- 2:46Speaker 2: He fits what they want to do. So I guess overall,
- 2:50Speaker 2: like Indiana is, is, They're.
- 2:53Speaker 5: Good, right?
- 2:53Speaker 2: We know the hitters for what they've done the past
- 2:56Speaker 2: few years. It's the standard of college football now. They
- 2:59Speaker 2: have set a new.
- 2:59Speaker 4: Which is hilarious.
- 3:01Speaker 5: It's weird.
- 3:02Speaker 2: In this new era, it's Indiana. You've got to copy
- 3:05Speaker 2: Indiana football. If you can be Indiana football, you're doing
- 3:07Speaker 2: things right.
- 3:08Speaker 5: It's crazy.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Yeah. It's funny. What does Indiana.
- 3:16Speaker 3: When you look at the stats of what does Indiana
- 3:19Speaker 3: do well that we do poor, this year it's penalty yards...
- 3:22Speaker 3: And then what we've done actually pretty well this year
- 3:24Speaker 3: is we don't turn the ball over. Well, Indiana's been
- 3:27Speaker 3: the best at not turning it over the last couple
- 3:29Speaker 3: of years. So they're just, they're disciplined. And this was,
- 3:36Speaker 3: they kind of became the, I don't.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Really know which school.
- 3:40Speaker 3: I mean, we kind of talked when Fred Hoiberg got fired,
- 3:43Speaker 3: what his approach was to transfers, but they kind of
- 3:45Speaker 3: became the football school to establish the, hey, it's.
- 3:49Speaker 4: The portal era.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Watch us just, grab your seniors and just be bigger
- 3:54Speaker 3: and stronger than you guys.
- 3:56Speaker 4: And we can handle ourselves.
- 3:57Speaker 3: And, you know, in this sense, it's November, December, but
- 4:01Speaker 3: for basketball is March just because we have guys who have,
- 4:06Speaker 3: you know, 30 starts in college football on our roster
- 4:10Speaker 3: that are now coming and starting for us.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Good for them. Good for them.
- 4:15Speaker 2: It's just a weird world that we live in when
- 4:17Speaker 2: we're saying Indiana football has set a new level here
- 4:20Speaker 2: and they have, And a lot of that's credit to
- 4:23Speaker 2: Coach Hurt Cignetti in his third season here with the Hoosiers.
- 4:27Speaker 5: He is, I.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Would say, a fan or people favorite. They like his style.
- 4:37Speaker 2: He's a little bit quirky, a little bit odd, but
- 4:40Speaker 2: he finds a way to win football games. And a
- 4:43Speaker 2: lot of those that he does, as Indiana is on
- 4:48Speaker 2: the highest winning streak, 20 games in a row here
- 4:51Speaker 2: coming in, Saturday to Lincoln. Today we'll go through some
- 4:55Speaker 2: of the different things that Indiana likes to do, some
- 4:59Speaker 2: of their key personnel players. Like I said, I watched
- 5:02Speaker 2: some of their games. It's the first time I really
- 5:04Speaker 2: deep dove into an opposing team this much.
- 5:10Speaker 5: And I.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Actually had to put together a little scouting report, which
- 5:15Speaker 2: I shared with Austin and Dak late last night. But
- 5:21Speaker 2: quarterback Josh Hoover, as I mentioned, he is very efficient.
- 5:27Speaker 2: That's the word I like to use. He's not going
- 5:30Speaker 2: to be your flashy. He's not Mendoza from a flashy statement,
- 5:33Speaker 2: but he's very efficient. He's got 15 touchdowns, zero picks.
- 5:38Speaker 2: 71% completion percentage. As I was watching him, he's very,
- 5:44Speaker 2: very good at.
- 5:47Speaker 5: Reading plays.
- 5:49Speaker 2: And being able to identify what they're in and then
- 5:51Speaker 2: execute their play. Indiana runs a ton, a ton of RPOs,
- 5:57Speaker 2: and they're not long, drawn-out plays. It's here's what the
- 6:02Speaker 2: defense has given you, and we're going to take what
- 6:05Speaker 2: we're going to give you, and we're going to move
- 6:07Speaker 2: on to the next play. That is Indiana's definition of
- 6:11Speaker 2: what they do on offense, and they're very patient at
- 6:15Speaker 2: doing so.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Yeah, they've... And that was, I mean, Josh Hoover coming in,
- 6:23Speaker 3: his big concern was, you know, because he had a
- 6:26Speaker 3: lot of turnovers at TCU. And Chris Ignetti is like, well,
- 6:30Speaker 3: he hasn't been in our offense. You know, he's like,
- 6:33Speaker 3: we don't put our quarterbacks in position to fail.
- 6:35Speaker 4: We don't make them do it.
- 6:36Speaker 3: And that's what, yeah, they're patient. They take the opportunities
- 6:40Speaker 3: that they're given. And, you know, over the course of
- 6:43Speaker 3: the game, it... it wears you down. I don't, I
- 6:48Speaker 3: don't know how else to put it, but it's, it's impressive. Really?
- 6:55Speaker 2: The two backs, uh, that we're going to see a
- 6:58Speaker 2: lot of, uh, number one, turbo Richard, and then number.
- 7:02Speaker 3: 29, great running back name, great running back name.
- 7:07Speaker 5: And number 29, Lee BB Jr.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Uh, I think these two guys, they run a little
- 7:11Speaker 2: bit differently, but they're, they're both very solid backs. Um, I,
- 7:16Speaker 2: I would describe Beebe as that he's a very patient runner.
- 7:20Speaker 2: If you watch him run, he's going to identify where
- 7:24Speaker 2: the hole is and then goes, whereas Turbo Richard, as
- 7:28Speaker 2: his name suggests, just turns on the turbo and goes.
- 7:32Speaker 2: He hits the hole very hard. Two very different backs,
- 7:34Speaker 2: and the little that I watched, I thought they both
- 7:37Speaker 2: got a lot done as well. And Indiana on offense
- 7:42Speaker 2: does a good job of mixing up their run game
- 7:45Speaker 2: from doing a lot of inside zone but then uh
- 7:48Speaker 2: also having some pulling guards and tackles as well the
- 7:55Speaker 2: the the formation that you're going to see a lot
- 7:58Speaker 2: is that there's going to be an up back um
- 8:01Speaker 2: not a full back but just you know more of
- 8:02Speaker 2: an up back that does a lot of motioning i'm
- 8:05Speaker 2: going to provide a lot of blocks on the edges
- 8:07Speaker 2: and their offensive line does like a really good job
- 8:09Speaker 2: at setting the edge and making holes and i get
- 8:13Speaker 2: it northwest or.
- 8:14Speaker 5: Rutgers is one of the opponents, and.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Northwestern was the other, which going into the year, you
- 8:22Speaker 2: would say Northwestern's not very good.
- 8:23Speaker 5: Well, they've been pretty decent so far.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Yeah, they look pretty good.
- 8:27Speaker 2: So, again, their offense is pretty impressive. What concerns me,
- 8:37Speaker 2: I guess I'll mention Nick Marsh and Charlie Becker here
- 8:40Speaker 2: in a second, but what concerns me is how balanced
- 8:43Speaker 2: they are, but with, with both the run in.
- 8:45Speaker 5: The past game.
- 8:46Speaker 2: And I will say, uh, there's a reason why they're
- 8:52Speaker 2: good is because it's hard to prepare for like they're there.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I mean, Nebraska's got a pretty good balanced identity here
- 9:00Speaker 2: coming along here too, but that's what makes Indiana so
- 9:04Speaker 2: tough is that they're good at both.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Yeah. Um, yeah, I think, You know, you look at
- 9:12Speaker 3: their schedule and how the year's gone. And, yeah, they've
- 9:16Speaker 3: had some slower starts to some of their games. They
- 9:18Speaker 3: still end up killing everyone.
- 9:19Speaker 4: And then I agree.
- 9:20Speaker 3: I think Northwestern's actually pretty good this year. So do
- 9:24Speaker 3: I think that we're probably maybe as good as Northwestern?
- 9:27Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe. So maybe that's a good sign.
- 9:33Speaker 3: But there's just not a lot of weaknesses that have
- 9:36Speaker 3: become apparent on this team. They don't have quite the
- 9:40Speaker 3: same– the same power that they had last year.
- 9:44Speaker 4: And I mean, that hasn't impacted them yet, but they are,
- 9:49Speaker 4: they're well balanced.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Their defense doesn't seem to have the same closers, but
- 9:55Speaker 3: it's still, a good squad.
- 9:59Speaker 2: There's receivers here, a couple guys to mention that they
- 10:02Speaker 2: go to early and often. Charlie Becker's number 80. He's
- 10:06Speaker 2: had 27 catches for 477 yards, eight touchdowns already. He's
- 10:12Speaker 2: their go-to guy, I would say, number one overall. He's
- 10:17Speaker 2: their scoring threat. He's their possession guy. that they'll go
- 10:20Speaker 2: to if you give them space. He also has the
- 10:23Speaker 2: ability to beat you deep, and they will take a
- 10:25Speaker 2: couple of shots a game. I think he's the guy
- 10:28Speaker 2: that if you're scheming around the pass game, and this
- 10:31Speaker 2: is what makes it hard is you got their run
- 10:33Speaker 2: in pass game, you kind of want to have a
- 10:35Speaker 2: guy on him and then shade a safety over to
- 10:38Speaker 2: him because he's going to be the guy that Hoover
- 10:40Speaker 2: looks for the most. Nick Marsh is the other guy,
- 10:43Speaker 2: number 11. He's got 23 catches for 341 yards and
- 10:45Speaker 2: four touchdowns. He's he's to me more of their like
- 10:50Speaker 2: speedy playmaker guy. And he, he has.
- 10:53Speaker 5: A lot of good things.
- 10:54Speaker 2: I like, I mean, Andrew Marshall has done a really
- 10:57Speaker 2: good job so far this year. And I like him
- 11:01Speaker 2: that much.
- 11:01Speaker 3: And we've seen, we've seen Nick Marsh before, you know,
- 11:05Speaker 3: he was at Michigan state last year.
- 11:07Speaker 5: Correct.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Yep. So, so I, I do, I think those are
- 11:11Speaker 2: going to be, those are Hoover's two guys. Obviously he's
- 11:13Speaker 2: got others as well. It just, it, It makes it tough,
- 11:18Speaker 2: and this is why it makes it tough when we're
- 11:20Speaker 2: on defenses. These past– our first five opponents, I feel like,
- 11:27Speaker 2: are very– I'm not going to say completely one-dimensional, but
- 11:32Speaker 2: going into the game, you understood what you needed to
- 11:36Speaker 2: take away for your defense to be effective. And we
- 11:41Speaker 2: did that for– I mean, in all these games, we
- 11:42Speaker 2: did a really good job of that. And, I mean,
- 11:44Speaker 2: I'll go back to the last game. You take away–
- 11:47Speaker 2: and scheme against Maryland's past game. Well, then they had
- 11:50Speaker 2: a couple of long runs, which was a little bit concerning, but.
- 11:55Speaker 4: That's what you live with.
- 11:56Speaker 2: That's what you live with because you're taking away what
- 11:57Speaker 2: they're comfortable doing. What scares me against Indiana is that
- 12:02Speaker 2: they're so balanced and they're known to be balanced and you,
- 12:07Speaker 2: you're going to have to pick and choose and live
- 12:08Speaker 2: with it, but it's, it.
- 12:10Speaker 5: It's, it's hard. It's going to be hard to sit
- 12:12Speaker 5: with that. And even if you pick and choose something.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Eat, you still might get killed on the defensive side
- 12:21Speaker 2: because they're good.
- 12:22Speaker 5: At the other part of the game.
- 12:23Speaker 4: They're still good, right.
- 12:24Speaker 5: It is hard.
- 12:25Speaker 2: It's a hard team to prep for, and I think
- 12:27Speaker 2: this is where, you know what, we're going to have
- 12:30Speaker 2: to be super, super, super creative.
- 12:33Speaker 5: And it's hard. Like, here's the other thing you've got
- 12:37Speaker 5: to debate.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Do you try to sell out and– press coverage, do
- 12:43Speaker 2: a lot of mixed-up blitzes, and try to make big
- 12:47Speaker 2: defensive plays, which are big positives, but then that might
- 12:51Speaker 2: lead to these catastrophic negative plays from Indiana that could
- 12:56Speaker 2: get you killed.
- 12:57Speaker 5: Is that a strategy, or do you play.
- 12:59Speaker 2: The, well, Indiana does, and we'll get to this in
- 13:02Speaker 2: a second, force them to have 13 play drives, work
- 13:07Speaker 2: their way down the field, and score? From what I've seen,
- 13:10Speaker 2: Indiana is comfortable doing that. So, like, you come out
- 13:14Speaker 2: with more of a no-regrets strategy and knowing that that
- 13:20Speaker 2: might result in big plays and getting killed. Like, it
- 13:25Speaker 2: very well could if that's your plan. That's what makes
- 13:28Speaker 2: this game intriguing is how will we attack it? How
- 13:32Speaker 2: will Rob Arge decide to attack this Indiana offense?
- 13:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I think.
- 13:38Speaker 3: What I would want to do, and I mean, because
- 13:40Speaker 3: what Fritz Signetti wants to do is he wants to
- 13:42Speaker 3: run the ball, give the quarterback some time by creating,
- 13:47Speaker 3: you know, decisions that have to be made by the defense.
- 13:52Speaker 4: I like us trying to stop the run.
- 13:55Speaker 3: If I had to sell it for one of the groups,
- 13:57Speaker 3: obviously you can stop both, but we find ourselves in
- 14:00Speaker 3: a position where, hey, we.
- 14:01Speaker 4: Need to print one or the other.
- 14:02Speaker 3: I think I like, you know, let's get rid of
- 14:06Speaker 3: the run game. Let's make them have to win it
- 14:07Speaker 3: on the ground. Maybe they do cut us up for
- 14:09Speaker 3: a thousand little paper cuts and we end up losing
- 14:13Speaker 3: all those.
- 14:13Speaker 4: 13 play drives.
- 14:14Speaker 3: But I think Josh Hoover, he's had a really good
- 14:20Speaker 3: year going in. Like I said, he had turnover issues,
- 14:22Speaker 3: but he didn't have any run game. And maybe if
- 14:24Speaker 3: you put all the pressure on him to make those plays,
- 14:27Speaker 3: and I think your secondary is pretty solid man-to-man, that
- 14:31Speaker 3: think we match up well out there that we take
- 14:33Speaker 3: away that run game maybe it puts them a little
- 14:35Speaker 3: off kilter and we it gives us our best chance
- 14:38Speaker 3: it also helps the clock in our favor because they're
- 14:41Speaker 3: not burning clock on our side and we're we're probably
- 14:43Speaker 3: gonna want want to control the.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Ball yeah and i will say hoover looked very good
- 14:50Speaker 2: again reading defenses and reading zone coverage good news for
- 14:54Speaker 2: us is we play a lot we do play a
- 14:55Speaker 2: lot of man naturally Um, it's, it's the, it's the
- 14:59Speaker 2: matter of, do we, like you said, do we have
- 15:01Speaker 2: the backend to go match up a lot of one-on-one
- 15:04Speaker 2: opportunities and, and, and stop them? Um, here's, and, and, and,
- 15:09Speaker 2: and I, I've gone back and forth and I think
- 15:12Speaker 2: this as a defensive game plan, unfortunately, you gotta be
- 15:14Speaker 2: pretty complicated this week and it's not going to be
- 15:18Speaker 2: a simple answer, but yeah, to your point of keeping
- 15:20Speaker 2: them in front, like, I can already hear the groans
- 15:25Speaker 2: from the crowds if we're eight, nine yards off as
- 15:30Speaker 2: a corner and they complete a five-yard pass and.
- 15:32Speaker 4: They're not up there.
- 15:34Speaker 2: I'm going to side with them sometimes.
- 15:37Speaker 5: I think we have to do that sometimes.
- 15:39Speaker 2: I just think we've got to be very multiple this
- 15:42Speaker 2: week and confuse Hoover. If he gets comfortable as how
- 15:46Speaker 2: we're going to be playing defense on him, it's not
- 15:49Speaker 2: going to be good. but we also got to live
- 15:51Speaker 2: with sometimes they're going to dissect us and go down
- 15:54Speaker 2: the field because we're at that point in time, the
- 15:58Speaker 2: coaching staff made the decision. We're not giving up a
- 16:00Speaker 2: big play and that's okay too. Like it, it, it
- 16:03Speaker 2: just one of those games. You're going to put a
- 16:05Speaker 2: bunch of puzzle pieces together on the defensive side of
- 16:08Speaker 2: the ball and, and, and, and hope that how you're
- 16:12Speaker 2: putting them together, they fit right at the right time.
- 16:15Speaker 5: And, and, and that goes to out coaching.
- 16:17Speaker 2: I mean, that's kind of coaching in general a little bit, but,
- 16:20Speaker 2: That's what you're going to have to do to out-coach
- 16:22Speaker 2: this Indiana offense. Moving on, I guess, to our offense here.
- 16:32Speaker 2: The last couple of games watching it, and Indiana's, I'll
- 16:38Speaker 2: say this first, Indiana's schedule isn't much different than what
- 16:45Speaker 2: we've played so far. They obviously have played Northwestern, which
- 16:49Speaker 2: seems to be better, but This will be their toughest
- 16:54Speaker 2: game so far of the year. And when I watch
- 16:59Speaker 2: Northwestern and Rutgers, specifically Rutgers, but they run a very
- 17:04Speaker 2: base 4-2-5, which is what we do as well. They
- 17:09Speaker 2: didn't show a lot of unique stunts, at least in
- 17:13Speaker 2: the first half of those games. Blitz's unique formations, I mean,
- 17:18Speaker 2: it was pretty basic. from what I saw. Now, they
- 17:25Speaker 2: do a really good job of rallying to the ball.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Their defensive line, I wouldn't say, is pin your ears
- 17:30Speaker 2: back and rush. They're more like big dudes, hold the
- 17:35Speaker 2: gaps up, and then rally. I think this is also
- 17:41Speaker 2: similar on this side of the ball, which we've been
- 17:44Speaker 2: good at. We can't be predictable on offense because Indiana–
- 17:49Speaker 2: with their base defense can then get comfortable defending us.
- 17:53Speaker 2: And we've done a good job of not being too
- 17:54Speaker 2: predictable this year, I think, and mixing it up.
- 17:58Speaker 5: They, they.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Allow just 64 rushing yards a game and about two
- 18:04Speaker 2: yards per net rushing attempt. So like the sacks go
- 18:07Speaker 2: into that, but like their run defense is one of
- 18:11Speaker 2: their strengths. And if we can't, if we're in third
- 18:15Speaker 2: and long a lot, it's, it's not, I don't think
- 18:18Speaker 2: that's going to pan out well for us on Saturday.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:23Speaker 3: I mean, it is worth noting Jamal rules back. Barney's
- 18:26Speaker 3: got another week of health and they really haven't. I mean,
- 18:31Speaker 3: Calandra is the best quarterback that they're they've played so far.
- 18:35Speaker 3: I think that's fair statement. He's also mobile. So I'm
- 18:40Speaker 3: hoping that having a mobile quarterback and I think.
- 18:43Speaker 4: You know, that, I'm hoping that that's the secret sauce
- 18:47Speaker 4: this week.
- 18:48Speaker 3: You know, this is what we haven't had and giving
- 18:50Speaker 3: that an opportunity to help open up the run game
- 18:52Speaker 3: a little more. And we'll also open up one of
- 18:54Speaker 3: the past games. Landry can kind of get, get the
- 18:56Speaker 3: sticks moving a little bit. Like you said, they, their
- 19:00Speaker 3: front line is they, they hold the line and you know,
- 19:03Speaker 3: their sacks and not coverage sacks, but it just gives
- 19:06Speaker 3: them more time if they, to get pressure on the
- 19:08Speaker 3: quarterback in that sense. I'm, I'm, Hoping that with Rule
- 19:14Speaker 3: being back and the mobility of Calandria, we have decent
- 19:17Speaker 3: success against them. I think our offense is better than Northwestern's.
- 19:21Speaker 3: And Northwestern put up 22 points.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Is that what it was? 21?
- 19:27Speaker 3: 22?
- 19:29Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 19:31Speaker 3: It's not the defense of last year. So I think
- 19:33Speaker 3: they're going to have some... I mean, they are still
- 19:36Speaker 3: fourth in total defense, I believe.
- 19:38Speaker 5: So....
- 19:40Speaker 3: They're disciplined. They don't get stupid penalties on themselves. We
- 19:43Speaker 3: can't get stupid penalties on ourselves. We haven't you know,
- 19:47Speaker 3: we can't have, we can't, this, this game, we cannot
- 19:51Speaker 3: give up, you know, those five yard ball starts, those
- 19:53Speaker 3: pre-snap penalties. We, we have to be, be tight about it.
- 19:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:58Speaker 5: We cannot set ourselves back for sure.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Like I said, Indiana's, they, they, they just play a
- 20:04Speaker 2: beat yourself. And if you're doing that, you're playing right
- 20:06Speaker 2: into their hands. They just, they, they slowly want you to,
- 20:10Speaker 2: prove to them you can go down and do it.
- 20:13Speaker 2: And we've shown we can do that.
- 20:15Speaker 5: I do agree. I think the Anthony Calandria run.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Game, as we've talked about since we've gotten him here,
- 20:22Speaker 2: could be a big difference maker in this game. And
- 20:24Speaker 2: I didn't mention anything about Josh Hoover, so I'm just
- 20:27Speaker 2: going to circle back real quick and throw that in there. Now,
- 20:31Speaker 2: you have to account for his run game close to
- 20:33Speaker 2: the goal line, but the dude's not a great runner.
- 20:36Speaker 2: And when you get him outside of the pocket and
- 20:38Speaker 2: uncomfortable– it's going to help us. So just get him
- 20:44Speaker 2: off his spot is a goal. But anyway, circling back
- 20:47Speaker 2: to Calandrian in our offense, I think that could be
- 20:50Speaker 2: a big difference maker. And again, not necessarily all designed runs,
- 20:54Speaker 2: but just his ability to escape the pocket. The challenge
- 20:58Speaker 2: for Nebraska, I think, is going to be when that is,
- 21:02Speaker 2: is he having to escape the pocket immediately because Indiana's
- 21:09Speaker 2: getting home on– the defensive line and their blitz packages
- 21:14Speaker 2: when they throw those in there. Like I said, they've
- 21:17Speaker 2: ran a lot of base, just four down linemen, a
- 21:21Speaker 2: few stunts here and there. But what I saw, they
- 21:25Speaker 2: didn't show a whole lot of blitzing. But, again, is
- 21:28Speaker 2: it a factor of the opponents and they're saving that?
- 21:31Speaker 2: And keep this in mind, who does Indiana have next week?
- 21:37Speaker 4: It's not Ohio State.
- 21:39Speaker 5: It's Ohio State.
- 21:40Speaker 4: Okay.
- 21:41Speaker 2: So– Like, you want to say, yeah, I don't think
- 21:45Speaker 2: Indiana's looking at us as the same playing field as
- 21:51Speaker 2: Rutgers and Northwestern. But at the same time, right, they
- 21:54Speaker 2: got a big game next week. So in their minds,
- 21:57Speaker 2: if they do have this massive plan to beat Ohio State,
- 22:00Speaker 2: are they showing everything? Obviously, you want to win the
- 22:02Speaker 2: game in front of you. That's no– Right.
- 22:05Speaker 3: They're not– I think they're going to be disciplined enough
- 22:08Speaker 3: to not– Yeah.
- 22:09Speaker 2: But at the same time I'm watching that Rutgers game.
- 22:12Speaker 2: I'm like, all they're running is a base for two.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Like they're not doing anything creative. And so against Rutgers,
- 22:18Speaker 2: you know, they did maybe play a little basic. So again,
- 22:21Speaker 2: I'm just curious to see how they, how they account for,
- 22:24Speaker 2: you know, the quarterback run game, getting Calandria uncomfortable. And
- 22:29Speaker 2: part of, you know, is, is that going to be
- 22:31Speaker 2: getting him out of the pocket or they're going to
- 22:32Speaker 2: try to keep him in the pocket, but make him
- 22:34Speaker 2: uncomfortable when he's in there at, It'll be fascinating to
- 22:38Speaker 2: see their game plan around that too, given they haven't
- 22:40Speaker 2: really played a guy like him yet.
- 22:45Speaker 5: At quarterback. Now, I will say this.
- 22:47Speaker 2: I heard that I didn't know this, but when Cignetti
- 22:49Speaker 2: was at James Madison, they actually played Calandria when he
- 22:53Speaker 2: was at Virginia.
- 22:55Speaker 4: That's funny. A couple years ago, you know, a little
- 22:58Speaker 4: different guy, different team.
- 23:00Speaker 5: So, okay.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I think.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Indiana's defense is not as scary as it was last year.
- 23:09Speaker 3: It still scares me that they really haven't had to
- 23:12Speaker 3: do a whole lot of creative stuff. We haven't seen
- 23:15Speaker 3: their best, so hopefully it's not against us.
- 23:22Speaker 2: My last big point here that I want to talk about,
- 23:25Speaker 2: and you mentioned the penalties, and a lot of what
- 23:29Speaker 2: I've heard this week is the penalty yardage, obviously after
- 23:32Speaker 2: last week and how we tied the.
- 23:34Speaker 5: Program record for penalties.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Um just we we're gonna probably have some but i
- 23:45Speaker 2: i just feel like your their definition of what catastrophic
- 23:50Speaker 2: or or damaging is just gonna there's gonna be more
- 23:53Speaker 2: of those this week it feels like because indiana's better
- 23:55Speaker 2: and any penalty that you have is gonna feel like
- 23:57Speaker 2: it's penalizing you to overcome.
- 24:01Speaker 3: And Indiana is not going to have those penalties probably.
- 24:03Speaker 3: So it's, it's not gonna be like last week where
- 24:05Speaker 3: we had 16 and they had 12. It's, it's, you know,
- 24:09Speaker 3: it could be like where we have 10 and they
- 24:11Speaker 3: have two.
- 24:13Speaker 2: I think the stat I saw, we averaged 73 penalty
- 24:16Speaker 2: yards a game.
- 24:17Speaker 5: Indiana averages 27.
- 24:18Speaker 2: So like from what we've seen so far against what
- 24:22Speaker 2: we said, a similar schedule, both at both ways. I,
- 24:29Speaker 2: I just– here's the thing with the penalties and then
- 24:33Speaker 2: going into.
- 24:35Speaker 5: These catastrophic plays.
- 24:37Speaker 2: And to beat a team like Indiana, the games before
- 24:42Speaker 2: you didn't really need to make any. You just kind
- 24:45Speaker 2: of let the other team hopefully give you a couple
- 24:50Speaker 2: of catastrophic errors. Exactly.
- 24:54Speaker 5: It's kind of flipped this game.
- 24:55Speaker 2: And I mean, I guess that's a, that's a product
- 24:57Speaker 2: of one team being better than the other on paper.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Like we're going to have to make a couple of
- 25:01Speaker 2: big plays to win this game. I don't, we're, we
- 25:04Speaker 2: don't have any huge plays. It's going to be hard
- 25:06Speaker 2: to win because Indiana, that's what they love to do.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Right.
- 25:09Speaker 5: They're, they're just going to sit back.
- 25:11Speaker 2: And, and, and if we have a really bad coverage
- 25:15Speaker 2: bust or a really bad, um, turnover, uh, fumbled snap,
- 25:21Speaker 2: a 15-yard penalty that gives them a first down on
- 25:23Speaker 2: third and long. Like, those things, Indiana's going to say,
- 25:27Speaker 2: thank you, appreciate it.
- 25:29Speaker 5: And let's move on. Like, that's their play.
- 25:33Speaker 2: So, like, that's what makes this game so difficult in
- 25:37Speaker 2: my mind is you need to probably make some of
- 25:40Speaker 2: these plays to win.
- 25:41Speaker 5: And maybe this is the other way approach.
- 25:46Speaker 2: I would say Northwestern is very– David Braun coach teams
- 25:54Speaker 2: are very disciplined as well. And they played kind of
- 25:56Speaker 2: with Indiana, but they didn't win, but they got respect
- 25:59Speaker 2: for it.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Maybe that's the approach.
- 26:01Speaker 2: I don't know. Like if you take a lot of risks,
- 26:04Speaker 2: you obviously have a high risk, high reward. You have
- 26:06Speaker 2: a chance maybe to win the game, but you.
- 26:09Speaker 4: Could get, I mean, you, you, I agree.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Like there's probably a little extra pressure that, you know,
- 26:16Speaker 3: if you look at Matt rule and his record against
- 26:18Speaker 3: ranked opponents, uh, Of the ranked opponents we're playing this year,
- 26:22Speaker 3: it's kind of crazy to say, but Oregon on the road,
- 26:28Speaker 3: Ohio State, Indiana, which one of those ones do you
- 26:33Speaker 3: think had the best chance to help with that ranked
- 26:36Speaker 3: opponent record?
- 26:37Speaker 4: I was like, I don't know. Is there extra pressure?
- 26:40Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 26:44Speaker 3: It's kind of funny to think, though, between those three teams,
- 26:46Speaker 3: it's like, well, maybe Indiana at home is the better one.
- 26:48Speaker 5: Yeah, the team that just won the national title.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Yeah, the best option to win a ranked tournament.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Hell.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's going to be a very tough game.
- 27:00Speaker 2: What do you think, Nate? Try to keep it close, right?
- 27:06Speaker 2: Just keep it close, and then when you get to
- 27:08Speaker 2: the fourth quarter, roll the dice.
- 27:10Speaker 3: Uh and i just i think i think lincoln's gonna
- 27:12Speaker 3: be rocking i don't know those noon kickoff games you
- 27:15Speaker 3: never know what crowd you're gonna get you want to
- 27:17Speaker 3: think that we're gonna be pumped for top 10 but
- 27:21Speaker 3: i could see some of those 60 plus year old
- 27:23Speaker 3: fans being like uh great another blowout win to go to.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Yeah vibes are vibes are just interesting i interesting is
- 27:30Speaker 2: the word i use actually for this it's it's there's
- 27:34Speaker 2: a lot of hype like people are excited um We're
- 27:37Speaker 2: obviously 5-0, but there's still, like, the people that have
- 27:40Speaker 2: lived through all of this and go, yeah, so, like,
- 27:45Speaker 2: who have we played?
- 27:46Speaker 5: We haven't played anybody yet. Shouldn't we be 5-0? Like,
- 27:50Speaker 5: now we got Indiana.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Like, there's people there, but then there's obviously– it's all
- 27:55Speaker 2: over the spectrum right now, which is great. So it
- 27:58Speaker 2: makes sports fun, college football fun. We're going to obviously
- 28:02Speaker 2: see where we're at. a little bit here on, on,
- 28:05Speaker 2: on Saturday, one way or the other.
- 28:07Speaker 4: I'm excited. It's going to be good. I'm going to
- 28:12Speaker 4: be in Michigan, but I'm going to be eagerly watching.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Well, I've been bad on this tailgate pods. I, there's
- 28:20Speaker 2: a lot more that I think we all could have
- 28:24Speaker 2: in our minds here. So we're going to get tailgate
- 28:26Speaker 2: pot pot out this week. And I've been bad about
- 28:28Speaker 2: posting them. I think Austin deck might be sending them
- 28:30Speaker 2: and I've been, bad about putting those together so we
- 28:34Speaker 2: will have one of those for you here tomorrow or
- 28:36Speaker 2: saturday with some additional indiana thoughts um i i guess
- 28:42Speaker 2: that biggest game here in the matt rule era we
- 28:45Speaker 2: can find a way to get it done i think
- 28:47Speaker 2: field's getting stormed i think i mean it's going to
- 28:49Speaker 2: be a great if if we don't well i guess
- 28:52Speaker 2: it's something we're not really or that's something that we
- 28:54Speaker 2: are accustomed to it's not it's not winning these games
- 28:58Speaker 2: but gosh you would think the some point in time, sometime.
- 29:02Speaker 5: I don't know when.
- 29:03Speaker 4: We're going to have one of these games.
- 29:05Speaker 5: We're going to win one of these. I don't know when.
- 29:06Speaker 5: Maybe it's not Saturday, but it's going to happen.
- 29:10Speaker 4: We can do it.
- 29:11Speaker 5: We can find a way.
- 29:14Speaker 4: We can do it. Lesser teams have done better.
- 29:17Speaker 5: Exactly.
- 29:18Speaker 2: When's it our turn? It's going to happen sometime. I
- 29:21Speaker 2: don't know when, but maybe it's Saturday.
- 29:24Speaker 4: Maybe.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Alrighty.
- 29:27Speaker 5: Go Big Red.
- 29:28Speaker 4: GBR.
