- 1:31But right now stepping up to lead off is second baseman Chuck Tiller, who has a batting average of 272.
- 1:53That's the first ball that's inside for ball one.
- 1:56And the ball game is underway here at the Polo Ground.
- 2:01Starting play today, the Giants are in second place in the National League standings, two and one half games back of the league leading Los Angeles Dodgers.
- 2:08Here's a swing and a foul ball back in out of play.
- 2:11One and one to second baseman Chuck Tiller.
- 2:21The Dodgers, of course, have moved on to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies as the Giants just left Philadelphia.
- 2:31Jay Hook with the one-one pitch to Chuck Tiller.
- 2:34And it's in there for a call strike two, one and two.
- 2:39The Giants came to New York last night after the conclusion of their game of the field, which they lost by a score of six to five in ten innings.
- 2:46And to add to their hard luck, the bus broke down on the way to New York and the Giants were considerably delayed getting into town.
- 2:56One member of the official party said the team broke down in the tenth inning and the bus broke down a few hours later.
- 3:04Here's the one-two pitch, one and fouled off and the count holds at one and two.
- 3:12While the Dodgers were beating the Mets yesterday, of course, the Giants were losing that one to the Phillies to allow the Dodgers to pick up another full game on the Giants and extend the lead to two and a half games.
- 3:27Of course, if the Giants or Dodgers are both look over their shoulder, they'll find the Pittsburgh Parrots right there in third place.
- 3:35Here's a one-two pitch. It's a fastball and missed inside.
- 3:40Two and two now to Chuck Hiller.
- 3:46An enthusiastic baseball crowd here at the Polo grounds this Sunday afternoon.
- 3:58West Western coaching at first base and Whitey Lockman is coaching around at third. Or the San Francisco Giants. The two-two pitch is high and away and the count has gone out full to the Giants leadoff man.
- 4:28J Hook is set to work the payoff pitch, swung out and has the fly ball high to right field. Coming in underneath it is Cliff Cook. He is waiting and Cook makes the catch for the out.
- 4:45Oh, there's one away and that brings up third baseman Jim Davenport. Or the Giants. What a season Davenport is having. He is batting three hundred thirty-one. He has ten home runs and forty-four runs batted in.
- 5:02He was on the National League All-Star squad finishing second only to Kenny Boyer of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Balladins at third base.
- 5:12Arm of football starts Mississippi Southern University.
- 5:18As it pitch in there for a foul strike.
- 5:22The official terminology of the school now is the University of Southern Mississippi.
- 5:36Strike one count. To the right hand batter. J Hook brings the pitch in low and it's one-one.
- 5:43Chris Cannazero is catching the first game.
- 5:47With Sammy Taylor out with the broken finger for three or four weeks.
- 5:53A catching core of the New York Mets consists of Chris Cannazero and Joe Pignatano.
- 5:58Pignatano caught yesterday's game. Hook with a playoff pitch. Swung in and lined in the left field for the first base of the ballgame.
- 6:06Played off the wall and passed Christopher and Davenport is on his way to second base.
- 6:11Christopher up with it now throws to third and Davenport holds it second.
- 6:15It scored as a double.
- 6:20Davenport lined up and whistled it out in the left field and Christopher came over. A little unfamiliar apparently with left field position.
- 6:30He's been in center a great deal lately and playing the carom off the wall allowed it to get past him and it scored as a double.
- 6:37And here is Matty Alou at the plate. A left hand batter.
- 6:42Brother of Philippe Alou who is also in the outfield today for the Giants.
- 6:46Matty's hitting 256. One home run, six runs right at end.
- 6:54J Hook into the stretch position checks the runner at second and brings the pitch to the plate.
- 6:58Low end on a short hop and it's dug up by Chris Cannazero.
- 7:09Wes Weston coaching down at first was here yesterday. Managel and Dark had allowed him to come on up for the old timers game.
- 7:19So that he got in the day ahead of the Giants as a team.
- 7:25Off the bag at second Jim Davenport.
- 7:28The kicks and fires into the dirt and it's coming on inside hitting a low and he's going to first hit by a pitch ball right down into the dirt at his feet and he is hit by a pitch ball.
- 7:42That's going to bring up Willie May with runners at first and second and one man up.
- 7:49The pitch by J Hook was a curve ball came in right into the dirt off the foot of Matty Alou.
- 8:00Well here's Willie back at the Polo grounds with a batting average for the season of three hundred five including twenty five home runs and eighty one runs batted in.
- 8:08What an exhibition he put on during batting practice.
- 8:12And you can hear the buzz around the stands now as Willie is in there with a wide stance right hand batter in the ballpark where he first came to the major leagues as a boy of 19 and 1951.
- 8:23J Hook into the face the pitch to May's fastball across the letters get by and both runners advance.
- 8:28Cannazero retrieved it hook covers the plate.
- 8:31Davenport hold that third Matty Alou hold at second.
- 8:40And the short as a wild pitch.
- 8:44It was a tight pitch to May's.
- 8:48He bounced back out of the way and both runners advance when it got on past Cannazero but charge a wild pitch against J Hook who now has called Cannazero out he's at the mound checking the things out with him.
- 9:03The Giants making a bid here in the top half of the first inning with one man out and run it at second and third.
- 9:24And that's the count to Willie Mays book work straight away now and the pitch one and one.
- 9:39J Hook is on a tough spot here in the top half of the first inning he had his work cut out for him.
- 9:52Here is the one one pitch to May's one on and has a fly ball to short center field coming in his Ashburn Cook is coming over also.
- 9:59Ashburn makes the catch Davenport tagged his third and comes out and now Matty Alou.
- 10:05Packed at second moved on halfway away to see which way the throw was going when it came to Neil he moved on the third.
- 10:12So one run is then Alou has advanced from second to third and McCabe is coming up a sacrifice fly and a run batted in for Willie Mays and the Giants lead by a score of one to nothing.
- 10:31Big first baseman Willie McCabe has a season's batting average of three hundred to twelve home runs and twenty eight runs batted in he's playing first base in this game he has been used more in the outfield than at first base this season.
- 10:43He has been alternated in the outfield with Harvey Keene for most of the season.
- 10:53The other guy of course the top left hand batter curveball Mrs. Low ball one to Willie McCabe Orlando's the play that has been benched by manager Alvin Darks later has been a two fifty six hitters and June the first that only four home runs and twenty one runs batted in since that day.
- 11:10June 1st last home run was on June 30th.
- 11:14He was benched because of tiredness yesterday.
- 11:19He pinched it to run single as a swing and a foul ball in the upper deck after the left side out of play.
- 11:31One and one the big Willie McCabe.
- 11:34Incidentally the Giants have pitcher Bob Garibaldi in uniform today for the first time Garibaldi is eligible to play today for the Giants he's been on the trip but this is the first time he has been added officially to the roster as of today.
- 11:51The curveball hit on the ground through the hole in the right field for a base hit. Maddie Alou comes out to score and McCabe holds his first with a single to right on the ground between first and second and the Giants lead here by a stir of two to nothing.
- 12:06And that will bring up the leap.
- 12:07Hello.
- 12:08He is a right hand batter and the leap below is hitting three hundred twenty six.
- 12:14He has 15 home runs and 61 runs batted in.
- 12:29The leap below was on the National League All-Star squad.
- 12:33Finishing behind Roberto Clemente in the right field balloting.
- 12:39Two men out and the pitch is long away for a ball to allow.
- 12:46Two runs in here for the Giants in the top half of the first inning.
- 13:04Frank Thomas holds against the runner at first base.
- 13:08That just outside of all as a third on the first it is not in time.
- 13:14With Gil Hodges out of action and in the hospital with the kidney stone ailments.
- 13:20The Mets have only one first baseman Mark Thornberry who is the first baseman by trade of course they have Frank Thomas playing first he has played a great deal during his major league career.
- 13:31And they also have right can be available for duty at first base.
- 13:40This is a two oh pitch to believe Paloo and it's low it's out to three and oh.
- 13:46That your Tom Haller is in the on deck circle for the Giants.
- 14:03This is the second trip of the Giants in the Polo ground this season.
- 14:11I got a lead off the bag at first the three oh pitch is in there for a call strike and it's three and one.
- 14:27We're picking a Bob Garibaldi a moment ago being in uniform for the Giants today and eligible to play for the first time he is the fine young collegiate pitcher from Santa Clara who had recently signed to a bonus contract by the Giants.
- 14:40There's a great deal of competition for him as a fastball in there for a call strike.
- 14:44So the first he's out at first base.
- 14:46I put it on William McCovey right now.
- 14:49I'm putting the bag on William McCovey.
- 14:51It's kind of that old fire down there.
- 14:54It goes through the three of you storing it in the top half of the first the Giants got to run on to hit.
- 15:00No error. Nobody love at the end of one half inning a play the score is a giant to and that nothing for the New York Mets up to lead off the center fielder Richie Ashford.
- 15:26He has a season batting average of two hundred ninety nine. He has done thirty five walks this season.
- 15:31He has six home runs one of them coming yesterday.
- 15:35His previous season five for action needs one walk to tie a Mac Bishop in career walk.
- 15:47But he has one thousand one hundred fifty two fastball turned inside Billy Pierce on the mound for the San Francisco Giants the thirty five year old left hander making his first appearance being spiked on the right ankle and Cincinnati way back on June 14th on blasting game.
- 16:07I like it. It is really very second starting in the next week and on June 1st at the Polo Grands 9 to 6.

- 18:23Right. Charlie Neil took cook it now on deck for the men.
- 18:39Here's thirty five years of age born at Detroit Michigan.

- 19:09If you are scoring it is a forty six three double play.
- 19:12Two men are nobody on and right hand batting clip cook is coming up.
- 19:17We're getting two hundred twenty three with two homers and nine runs batted in Billy Pierce talking things over now and catch a Tom Haller.
- 19:28Here's came to the major leagues with his hometown Detroit Tigers.
- 19:31Nineteen forty eight was traded to the Chicago White Sox for catcher Aaron Robinson in November of 1948.
- 19:39A great fade for the White Sox because Billy Pierce came on to be a bulwark of the White Sox pitching staff for a number of years he had to 20 game winning season with the White Sox in 1956 and 57.
- 19:52He won 20 games each season.
- 19:54I'm going to miss my cook cook at the plate.
- 20:09Bob Farley.
- 20:15I went bitches outside it's one and one now to clip cook up with two men out of nobody on base for the New York Mets batting the bottom of the first inning the San Francisco Giants are leading by a score of two to nothing.
- 20:38They get in there for a call strike one and two.
- 20:45They're out here at the Polo ground but it is not a sellout by any means. So if you happen to be in the vicinity drop in. We have lots of baseball here this afternoon.
- 21:10And a ground ball foul.
- 21:19One and two down a cliff cook with Frank Thomas kneeling in the on deck circle.

- 22:34There's a curveball missing outside the Philippe Ballou.
- 22:37The end of one in the play the Boston Red Sox nothing the Minnesota Twins nothing first game swallowing and flight.
- 22:44So that's the way all the baseball action is set up in the majors this Sunday afternoon and we'll be bringing you scores of other games throughout the afternoon.
- 22:54Jay Huck into the wind up in the pitch curveball lined into the glove of man.
- 22:58He's out at third base.

- 23:27There's a bit slow ball ball delivers at a time away.
- 23:47Haller is hitting two hundred fifty sixty at seven on run from twenty three runs batted in.
- 24:06Two oh pitches on and there is a short half of the fight.
- 24:21The ball is in the middle of the field and Haller is questioning the decision of on back in the first base on West West.
- 24:36It was a low line drive to Frank Thomas as he started in the field that he added on the glove and then overran it and had to go back and pick it up and play the hook.
- 24:44Nobody on and I was a forgot coming up shortstop right hand batter.
- 24:51I was a forgot hitting two hundred sixty six with three home runs thirty one runs batted in.

- 27:46He leads the Mets in home run.
- 27:49He leads in double.
- 27:53He leads in hit by Thomas leads in most offensive departments for the Mets.
- 28:09There is a pitch second low at one and one.
- 28:12Billy Pierce getting his first start today since June 14th.
- 28:17The San Francisco Giants feel like he can add a great deal to their total effort.
- 28:24You can get back into the starting rotation as a change of pace going high two and one.
- 28:32Felix Mantia is kneeling in the on deck circle for the New York Mets and he is batting number five in the batting order today.
- 28:42Here's a two one pitch to Thomas. He's a little numbered on a third base line foul ball.
- 28:47Thomas is running it out but he'll be brought back.
- 28:55He's on his way back to the plate now.
- 28:56Hallow went up the line to try to field the ball.
- 28:58Davenport came down but it got quickly over to the foul.

- 37:24There's a swing and a miss as Paris misses a fastball one ball one strike.
- 37:29They tell me that there's no greater pain than a kidney stone pain.
- 37:37One ball one strike out to nothing game in favor of the Giants that Paris it's a little ground ball towards the left side it goes on through in the left field of base and Billy Pierce hitting that fastball off the hands and barely getting it through the infield.
- 37:51The left hander had no chance to get the ball if he had to come up with a ball he could have never made the play at first base as he was moving away from that area.

- 39:38And he throws a fastball a swing and a foul back in the screen two balls and one strike.
- 39:52And the second batter Jim Davenport and he has been poisoned to the Mets all year long already has one base hit in the game to extend his 15 game his 14 game hitting streak to 15 game.
- 40:09The two one pitch to Hiller fastball bounce on the ground and Neil a chance for two he takes it himself throws the first in time a double play.
- 40:23He's got the bag ran about five steps to step in the bag all by himself and the throw the first base to Frank Thomas was in plenty of time a double play a piece for each side to out now and the batter is Jim Davenport a double play by the Mets
- 40:39their 80th of the year.
- 40:41The opposition has pulled off eighty six.
- 40:52Jim Davenport one for one batting at three thirty one at the start of the game he bats on the right hand side and the first pitch the gym is on the plate for called strike.
- 41:17Hook into the wind up and back to the right hander and it's a pop up and Davenport goes for a lower pitch coming in now Chacon calling for it and he makes the catch to retire the side in the inning for the Giants no runs on one hit erased by a double play no errors and no one left on and the score at the end.
- 41:37Two and one half any to play the Giants to the Mets nothing you know you've heard us say it's fair as fair as should date.
- 41:48Well think of that just for a minute.
- 41:51Isn't that what you want and beer.
- 41:53Don't you want a beer that's refreshingly dry to the taste with a flavor that's brisk and bright and clean clear through.
- 41:59Well that is Ryan go. Ryan Gold has proved to be just that route of the choices ingredients through the long slow costly away.
- 42:08Ryan Gold is everything you look for in beer and dry tells you why.
- 42:13Yes extra dry means Ryan Gold's a better beer.
- 42:16It's a wonderful beer and extra dry means Ryan Gold beer is more refreshing and the more refreshing a beer is the more you're going to enjoy.
- 42:26So enjoy a fine cold Ryan Gold beer right along with the ballgame.
- 42:31Join the millions who have made Ryan Gold New York's largest selling beer.
- 42:40Well this is the first game of a three game set with a giant double headed today and a single game tomorrow night starting the day the clock.
- 42:49And the Mets will have a day off on Tuesday and take up against the Red Hot Pittsburgh Pirates and a daytime double header.
- 42:56All right Tony four and a half games out of first place and they have won 11 of their last 14 ballgame Thursday the Pirates will be in town for a twilight night double headed that game will start at six o'clock and the Mets leave town right here though bottom half of the third do nothing game.
- 43:14The second game giants lead is Billy Paris pitches to Elio Chacon and he takes outside for ball one.
- 43:25Elio batting to 25 right handed batter choking up on the bat about two inches and the left hander back to the plate inside a low ball to.
- 43:41Two balls and no strike.
- 43:54On deck batter Chris Canna zero to all fetch a call strike by the home plate umpire two balls and one strike.
- 44:08And the Mets take the ball and the umpire behind home plate.
- 44:16Ken Burkhardt at first at second base Jack O'Connor and third Chris Pellicudas Paris Mrs. Lowe what his next pitch is three balls and one strike with no one out.
- 44:29And the Mets looks down at third base for the sign. I'll he must the coach there. He leads the Mets in walks obtained 47.
- 44:41Now time called as Tom Hollander the catcher goes out to straighten out the sign.
- 44:46And while we have a second here let's check the scores in the National League.
- 44:50The Los Angeles Dodgers through six and a half innings of play lead the Philadelphia Phillies 4 to 1 Johnny Padres looking for his fifth win in that one now pitching for the Fills Brown.
- 45:02That's the first game of two in the first game of a doubleheader at Pittsburgh.
- 45:06The St. Louis Cardinals lead the Pirates 2 to 1 through 6 and a half.
- 45:10The Pittsburgh the pitcher for the Cardinals record seven and four pitching for Pittsburgh Harvey Hattick he has won seven and lost three.
- 45:20The Chicago Cubs are scheduled against Houston in the doubleheader and that's not a plane in Milwaukee behind one nothing to two and a half Milwaukee one since it had a nothing first of two.
- 45:31Now the three one fits the Chicago and it's up high for ball for any music on his picked up his 48 walk of the year. And that's the third walk issued by Billy Ferris.
- 45:42That's now with a runner at first base and Chris Canna zero coming up with no one out.
- 45:46Do nothing game in favor of the Giants.
- 45:59Chris Canna zero followed by Jay Hook Jay out in the on deck circle as he always does.
- 46:07He's a good hitting pitcher Chris batting one eighty nine bats from the right hand side and the first pitch as you're going goes it's one on a miss the throw the second base in the dirt and fighting and safely.
- 46:18And that's a good job.
- 46:29He also leads the Mets in that department.
- 46:33And now the Mets have a runner at second base with no one out a one strike count on Chris Canna zero and Tom Holler who had previously thrown out Joe Christopher.
- 46:44And that's a good job.
- 46:55Stretched by Billy Ferris a look at you going at second base in the pitch the play to curveball hit down to the hole.
- 47:05And the throw there is a little bit late and holding that first base Chris Canna zero.
- 47:16He gets your phone on that ball hit the hole wisely decided to hold up.
- 47:22But when it went on through he still went back to second base.
- 47:26For what reason we don't know then he had to hurry over to third actually didn't make his mind up until it was almost too late.
- 47:35But he got there and now the Mets have runners at first and third with no one out in the batter Jay Hook.
- 47:41That base hit by Canna zero the first in the game off of Billy Ferris.
- 47:53Jim Duffel all now up and drawing for the Giants in the San Francisco ballgame open.
- 48:00This is Billy Ferris first start since he was spiked back on June 14 by Don blasting game.
- 48:11Do nothing game in favor of the Giants with the Mets now with a time run at first base.
- 48:16And Jay Hook a left hander in the batter's box.
- 48:25J Batting two sixty five has driven in for runs in field playing for the double play at short and second the third baseman is in first pitch to the left handed batter is a curveball swung on a miss for strike one.
- 48:39That important third base playing about two steps in front of the baseline running between second and third.
- 48:47A copy at first base naturally holding the runner on now Ferris into the stretch to check of the runners.
- 48:57A shake of his head and back to the plate with a pitch that just off the outside corner one ball one strike to Jay Hook.
- 49:06On deck batter Richie Ashburn.
- 49:23One ball one strike no one out.
- 49:26Do nothing game Giants and the one one pitches swung on a miss for strike two.
- 49:33Big swing by Huck he didn't get it.
- 49:40He is a going at third base.
- 49:42Chris Canada zero at first.
- 49:56There is taking plenty of time time reading the signs from Tom Holler now into the stretch and the pitch back to the plate and swung on a miss a strikeout.
- 50:05And now we have a chance we'll use this opportunity to pause for station identification.
- 50:15This is W.G. wise connected.
- 50:22That strikeout by Billy Ferris is first to the game and now Richie Ashburn comes to bat.
- 50:27Ralph Garner along with Lindsey Nelson and Bob Murphy from the Polar Ground bottom half with a third inning the score to the nothing in favor of the Giants.
- 50:37And Richie Ashburn who walked his first time up batting for the second time he's batting to ninety nine.
- 50:44And the first pitch to the left and it hit sharply down a second base a good play by Hillary Tigers.
- 50:49And the first place a double play now.
- 50:52He was coming out to argue with the second base umpire Jocko Conlon as to the fact that Hiller did not touch the bag.
- 51:02Fine play by Hiller and completing the double play.
- 51:05He went over to his right backhand of the ball one handed with his glove stepped on the bag and threw the first base and plenty of time and the double play the second of the game by the San Francisco Giants.
- 51:18And the ending for the Mets no runs on one hit.
- 51:21There was one walk no errors.
- 51:23One man left and the score at the end of three innings of play the Giants to the Mets nothing.
- 51:33Moving along now to the top of the fourth inning a two nothing game in favor of the Giants and the first batter up for the Giants will be Matty Alou.
- 51:42Matty was hit by a pitch ball his first time up and he scored along with Jim Davenport to score one of the two runs in the ballgame.
- 51:52Batting two fifty six the mother brother of Philippe Alou.
- 51:59And he bats from the left hand side as Jay Hook gets set to go here in the top of the fourth.
- 52:05A wind up in the pitch is outside for ball one Alou moving down as though to push the ball towards the third base side taking as a pitch went high one ball no strike.
- 52:27The one all pitch to Matty Alou is high again for ball two.
- 52:45Jay Hook so far has given up on a three base hit.
- 52:51Working two three innings and he comes back high again for ball three three balls and no strikes.
- 52:58Chris Canazaro walking out in front of the plate talking to Jay.
- 53:05Jay a pitch away from walking his first man he has struck out none.
- 53:09He has a record against San Francisco of 0 and 2.
- 53:13He has appeared against them three times he lost once in 10 innings seven to six and also lost 10 to one.
- 53:20And the three oh pitch a called strike by home plate umpire Frank Waltz three balls and one.
- 53:34Matty Alou one of many brothers who have great talent.
- 53:37Three one pitch a call strike two.
- 53:42They have another brother playing in minor league baseball called who say Alou and they claim he's faster stronger and better than a leap and Matty.
- 53:58And he swings at the three to pitch and falls and foul count remaining at three balls and two strikes.
- 54:14Matty played in the minor leagues at Tacoma.
- 54:16He's an outstanding outfielder has a great arm.
- 54:22Leading off here in the fourth inning he'll be followed by Willie Mays and Willie McCovey.
- 54:27And again the three to pitch to the left and a batter right to the middle on the ground a base hit going around at first base and moving halfway down but holding there the throw coming back to first base is not in time and it takes the loop back to first.
- 54:40He almost went for the extra base as the ball is filled with slowly and center field.
- 54:46That's it by Matty Alou outside the strike zone so the base didn't change the circumstances any because if he had taken the bet he would have walked the first base and was that he on his first base now no one out.
- 55:02Willie Mays comes to bat for the second time.
- 55:15Willie his first time up flat out the center field the throw the first base chases Alou back he's safely there fly ball as a sacrifice by scoring him Davenport from third base again to throw the first to lose fast gets back in a hurry.
- 55:32Fly ball by Willie was shallow in center field and Ashburn catching the ball towards right field couldn't throw home. There's a curveball on the outside corner called strike and a throw the first base just about in time and not quite getting back quickly Alou one strike count on Willie Mays.
- 55:50Willie batting three oh five for the year.
- 55:59I look at the runner at first and now back to Mays and this one is popped up back of home plate and coming back near the fence is Chris Canna zero and he has room to make the catch and moving on down from first base after the get right by the screen.
- 56:16That he alone holding that as can zero came running out. Mays is out for the first time officially and now Willie McCabe comes up.
- 56:30McCabe single the right field and drove in the second run of the game. John's lead at do nothing. He was then picked off first base by Chris Canna zero. Well he's starting the game hitting three oh two big fella hitting from the left hand side.
- 56:47I say big he's a giant.
- 56:54Boy he filled out that uniform I'll tell you.
- 57:00Good power Lou at first base with one out now.
- 57:03They have looking then back to the play with a curveball a call strike McCabe started this way and held up. Now I talked to Frank Waltz goes as a one strike.
- 57:22The pride of San Francisco. This fellow is actually more popular or as popular as Willie Mays in San Francisco.
- 57:31He took again back with the one strike pitch and this is a hanging curveball way outside and high for ball one one ball one strike. John's two runs on for it. So Mets have no runs on one.
- 57:55Jay a quick throw to first base but a little with a short lead back in time. Mattie a little.
- 58:03He's a little bit smaller than his brother for Lee.
- 58:08Hook set now holding on the mound and now to the plate with a fastball it's foul it's off of the glove of Canada not foul the swing and a mess and the ball getting away from Canada allows Mattie a load to go down to second base and the score to fastball.
- 58:25And now Canada zero thinking it was a foul tip say something to the umpire Frank Waltz but giving up that argument as well.
- 58:32He said no officially it goes as a fastball and a low now down at second base with one out
- 58:51and one ball to strike out on Willie McCovey the on deck batter is for Lee Palu Jayhook now back to work comes to the plate with a slider that's fouled out of play and the count will hold in one ball and two strikes.
- 59:22What a lock when the third base coach and West Westrom who was here for the old timers game the first base coach.
- 59:38Jayhook a slow worker now into the stretch position and his one to pitch to McCovey is it deep to center field but high in the air it'll give after plenty of time he is there tagged up at second base and moving over the third after the catch is
- 59:56Matty Alou two outs now and a low rounding the third base going down the line about six steps as Charlie Neal walks the ball in from his cutoff position on fly ball about three hundred and ninety feet to center field actually just a shade to the right
- 1:00:16of center field two outs and Felipe Lou batting he lined out the third base his first time up came into the game at three twenty six as a stand similar to Orlando so beta and the wind up in the pitch to Alou is outside ball ball one.
- 1:00:47So beta was given a day's rest yesterday at least it started out that way when the Giants played in Philadelphia he complained of being tired.
- 1:00:57He was using the game as he came up with a pinch hitter and single and he was left in the game today he's been given a position on the bench again.
- 1:01:07One oh pitch to Alou a curve ball it's low for ball to two balls and no strikes the on deck man is a left handed batter Tom Holler.
- 1:01:29Two nothing game Giants lead and Felix Mantia bluffing the runner back at third the big wind up in a pitch at deep the left center field moving back as Asperd on the warning track he is back there and he makes the catch.
- 1:01:43Richie Asperd pulling that deep drive down right in front of the screen four hundred and forty feet away and every tires aside and the ending for the Giants no runs on one hit nowhere is one man left in the score at the end of three and a half.
- 1:01:59The Giants to the Mets nothing.
- 1:02:06We're going to the bottom half of the fourth inning with a score to the nothing in favor of the San Francisco Giants and Charlie Neal will lead off with the Mets.
- 1:02:14It'll be Charlie Neal left cook and Frank Thomas the second third and fourth batters in the batting order against Billy Bear.
- 1:02:23Charlie Neal is out to three innings as given up no runs allowed only one hit he has struck out one and walk three one base it picked up by Chris Canna zero Charlie hit into a double play his first time up putting the ball down to the second baseman
- 1:02:44and he's going to be the first to strike out a killer and he swings and fouls the first pitch off the catcher's glove for strike one killer has turned in to find double plays to give the Mets opposition eighty seven double plays for the year.
- 1:02:59Mets have had one double play in the ballgame.
- 1:03:02They now have a total of eighty for the season.
- 1:03:11The second strike now goes into the windup for the one strike that and Charlie Neal takes it.
- 1:03:17It's low for ball one one ball one strike Charlie starting the game with a two fifty eight average seven home runs and thirty one runs batted in
- 1:03:35the second pitch to the right and a batter is low for ball to two balls and one strike Billy Pierce a veteran of many seasons in the American League 35 years of age he has a hundred and ninety seven wins in his major league career.
- 1:03:53He has lost one hundred and fifty four games so he has well over five hundred throughout his brilliant career.
- 1:04:00He's got a pitch inside getting away from the catcher ball three Billy last year for the White Sox one ten and lost nine and he has a record against the Mets of one win and no losses won that game on June 1st right here in the Polar
- 1:04:18Field now working to Johnny Neal with a three one count the ball wind up in the pitches outside and high fastball ball for Billy walks his fourth man in the game that gives the Mets a base runner at first base with no one out in the bottom half of the fourth inning and it brings up
- 1:04:42to the right field left and his only batting appearance was out as Willie McCovey backhanded the high pop up over by the first base box seat.
- 1:05:10Cook a right hander in the batter's box and Paris to the plate with his first pitch a fastball down around the knees for a strike call.
- 1:05:19We're batting to twenty three.
- 1:05:26He has to run.
- 1:05:30But he has good power.
- 1:05:32He has hit only two home runs this year. Last year he led the American Association in home runs.
- 1:05:41Here's where the one strike pitch a change of curveball about in the dirt dug out by Tom Holler ball one holding the first base Johnny Neal
- 1:05:56outfield straight away and deep Willie Mays as deep as I've seen him play still not as deep as most outfielders play.
- 1:06:11The stretch a look at first base that Johnny Neal on the pitch to the plate is hit the left field it might drop in coming in as the low as the base hit.
- 1:06:18He takes it on the first half and holding out second base Johnny Neal and the Mets have runners at first and second with no one out and the batter is Frank Thomas.
- 1:06:38That is in the cleanup position coming to bat now is all for one in the game. He grounded out to the second baseman when Billy Ferris jammed him with a fastball he broke his back.
- 1:06:50He was off grounder down the second prank with 15 home runs and 50 runs batted in leads the club and both the farm right hander right on top of the plate.
- 1:07:02He has not hit a home run for quite some time and Ferris with runners at first and second comes in with a curveball.
- 1:07:11Deeper left field it could go off of the wall. It's an extra base hit coming in from second base as Johnny Neal now coming from first base as good luck and he is there.
- 1:07:20The game is all tied up standing out at second base with a two base hit and two runs batted in Frank Thomas and with the base it Jim Duffalo gets up and throws in the bullpen for the San Francisco Giants.
- 1:07:50The second base with no one out and the batter is Phoenix Manchia now a play is being put on by the shortstop and he must go to the third yelling down to Thomas to get back.
- 1:08:11He did get back no throw there Phoenix Manchia and he attempts a punt down the first base side it goes foul and Thomas who had moved over to third now has to go back to second base game all tied up at 2 to 2.
- 1:08:31Jim Duffalo a right hander throwing in the bullpen.
- 1:08:39Ferris has a record this year of eight wins and two losses but this is his first start since June 14.
- 1:08:49He was spiked by a blasting game and has been out for over a month.
- 1:08:56The one strike pitch to Manchia hit on the ground towards the first base side and foul and the count now on to as McCovey comes over and tries to back in his foul territory misses the ball.
- 1:09:12On deck batter Joe Christopher.
- 1:09:30Ferris reading the signs from Tom Holler takes a long look now goes into the stretch looks at Thomas at second base there's a ball hit right through the middle Thomas slow starting rounds the third base and he's being held at a throw coming in to
- 1:09:45McCovey cut off throw to second base out in time as Manchia takes advantage of the throw in the home plate to go on down to second
- 1:09:59base and now coming out of the dugout and signaling for Jim Duffalo Alvin dark that's all for Billy Ferris.
- 1:10:11Frank Thomas on the ball hit by Manchia started to move back toward second race and then had no chance to score as Willie Mays came in charging and the throw in home in anticipation of Thomas scoring allowed Manchia to go on down to second base in the Mets now with Ferris going out
- 1:10:29to have runners at second and third and no one out as Jim Duffalo comes in the bed Duffalo's record for the year one win and two losses.
- 1:10:41This will be his 15th game his 13th appearance in relief and he has a earned run average of three point six four.
- 1:10:51Billy Ferris officially fits three innings so far has been charged with two runs both scoring here in the fourth inning as a match picked up a walk and three base hit a lot of total of four hits and he struck out one and walked for and while we wait for Duffalo to warm up
- 1:11:19let's take a look at the scores in the National League all double header Chicago scheduled against Houston starting pitchers in the first game Bob Buell for the Cubs and going for Houston how would a shack that's not a plane in Milwaukee and they trail the
- 1:11:38Braves three to nothing to four innings now pitching for the Reds will he came in in the fourth for dead going for the Milwaukee Braves Matthews in his 18th home run in the first inning of that game the Dodgers playing at Philadelphia way out in front through seven and a half they leaded eight to one Padres way out in front looking for his fifth win now pitching for Philadelphia Brown Howard a home run the eighth inning with one on to score two runs and

- 1:12:28team Woodley team Woodley batting as a pinch hitter with runners at second and third in place at Joe Christopher John to two and one half games out of first place they lost a series at Philadelphia two out of three before coming in here to the foreground
- 1:12:58so Gene Woodley with a two eleven batting average being substituted for Joe Christopher
- 1:13:29left handed batter right on top of the plate in that familiar crouch position the third baseman and shortstop playing in the rest of the infield back on the first pitch the gene is a call strike Alvin dark giving up the run if the ball is hit to the right side now
- 1:13:50the second baseman is on being sent back to a halfway position so the only man in now is the third baseman Jim Davenport 2 to game runners at second and third in the curve ball of Woodley as high for ball one one ball one strike no one out Tom Holler being called over
- 1:14:17and they're moving the right fielder Matty Alou deeper in right field he was playing a very shallow right field and he's being pushed out and over towards right center
- 1:14:33one ball one strike as Duffalo goes into the windup and the pitch the plate is a curve that's inside and low for ball to Duffalo a big tall right hander
- 1:14:52six foot one hundred and seventy five pounds as he winds and comes back it's high a throw down a third base chases Thomas back a play on but not in time and the count is three and one is Tom Holler pitched out trying to pick off Frank Thomas
- 1:15:07open base at first base with runners at second and third no one out in the batter in the on deck circle circle as he goes to call there is ball for intentionally and that loads them up and it brings up a year to go now Casey Stengel coming out to talk to
- 1:15:24you all
- 1:15:46after the picture Duffalo got behind to one on Woodley instead of walking him intentionally Alan Dark had a play put on try and pick Thomas off at third use the third ball for the play and then of course after the play did not come off he walked
- 1:16:03moving intentionally to load up the bases and give the Giants a chance for a double play or a force play at any base infield back and short and second for the double play in at first and third and the first pitch to Chicago right in the batter is outside ball one curveball outside of the plate

- 1:17:27Frank Thomas at third base Felix Mantia at second and Jean Woodley at first no one out the count one ball and one strike and now she going after the conversation still looking down at Salihima in the coaching box
- 1:17:44and Salihima still batting to twenty five and Duffalo into the wind up in the pitch to Elio has filed away in the count now one ball and two strikes foul ball coming right over the top of our right and go both
- 1:18:07of them one ball and two strikes on Elio Chicago on deck batter Chris Canna zero wind up now for the one two bet that's a foul ball off of the catcher's man and the cow will hold at one and do Elio that time behind the fastball just getting a piece of it to stay alive

- 1:23:05And now the second infield back at Jordan second looking for the double play in the first and third.
- 1:23:21That's now at four runs on five it's a chance to have two runs on four.
- 1:23:25Jim Duffalo in relief by Billy Ferris into the wind up in the 1 1 pitch is outside a pitch out and Tom Holler chasing to go back but you go moving quickly did not draw a throw.
- 1:23:37Now two balls and one strike on deck batter Charlie Neal he started the rally with a walk.
- 1:23:45That's going for here in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for to do.
- 1:23:51Duffalo staring for the sign now backs off the pitching rubber in once another.
- 1:24:07Now into the stretch where the base is loaded in the pitch to Ashburn is outside ball three three balls and one strike.
- 1:24:24And Duffalo now a pitch away from walking in the run and time call is solid he missed calls Richie Ashburn out of the batter's box.
- 1:24:34All the question here is whether or not Sally will allow Richie Ashburn to swing away or take Richie a veteran of many baseball games such as these.
- 1:24:49I guess he'll be on his own.
- 1:24:52He has a fine eye.
- 1:24:54Three one can now bases jam in field moving in just a little bit and the stretch position again assumed by the pitcher and the pitch on the 3 1 pitch is fouled away and the guy now goes full of Richie Ashburn three balls and two strikes.
- 1:25:12Jim Duffalo going into the stretch position instead of the full windup with a base is loaded is trying to hold the runner at third base as close as he can to take away the possibility of a squeeze play being successful by assuming the stretch position.
- 1:25:32It does not allow you going to get too far down the line and if a squeeze play was put on they would have just a little better chance of picking up the force play at home if the play went there.
- 1:25:53It's a 3 2 down now.
- 1:25:54Richie Ashburn won out on deck battered Johnny Neal.
- 1:26:00Jim Duffalo looking for the sign and Ashburn backing out now gets back in the batter's box going up third and as well as that second base.
- 1:26:23The first pitch is a great hook at first.
- 1:26:35Now the stretch position and the 3 2 pitch taken outside ball for that walk in the fifth run.
- 1:26:45The third base is coming out from the dugout now out dark here you're gone.
- 1:27:01That walk by Richie Ashburn has just placed him one ahead of the career walks obtained by Max Bishop a great ballplayer in the past.
- 1:27:16So Richie now has 1154 walks in his major league career and he now has passed Max Bishop in that total on now third base Chris Canazaro at second base.
- 1:27:28Jay Huck at first base Richie Ashburn and coming in slowly from the bullpen in left field.
- 1:27:34Don Larson and right here it's five to two minutes as Johnny Neal comes to bat against Don Larson bottom of the fourth inning.
- 1:27:42Paces still loaded one out and Larson now calling time to get the signs all straightened out.
- 1:27:49Johnny batting for the second time in the inning he started off the rally with a walk as the leadoff man in the fourth for the men.
- 1:28:12Don Larson with a record of four wins and one loss and the first pitch to Charlie is it on the ground to the third baseman down and bought a good play a chance for to a third a second base in time to go to first base in the dirt dugout by William McCovey a double play to end the ending a fine play by McCovey to complete it.
- 1:28:30If you're scoring it went five to four to three.
- 1:28:34And the Mets are out and they're half of the fourth inning in the end and all the Mets picked up five big runs on four hits.
- 1:28:47There was one error and two men were left and the score at the end of four in need to play the Mets five the Giants to.
- 1:29:01Defensively now the Mets have Frank Thomas at first base Charlie Neil at second he'll you should go on and short Felix man to you at third right.
- 1:29:08Can you let left field Richie Ashman in center field Cliff cook and right Chris 10 is there are the catcher and Jay Hook is the pitcher.
- 1:29:22I'm out of the left hand better than one time and grounded out of the wind up the pitch the curve ball missing off the corner for a ball one.
- 1:29:31Rhythmic applause is begun here at the Polo Brown.
- 1:29:41Playing the ground ball full foul and out of play one and one to the giant catcher.
- 1:30:00And the pitch is high for a ball.
- 1:30:05Mike McCormick is not throwing in the bullpen left hander Mike McCormick is throwing in the bullpen or the Giants and the event that Alvin Dark finds a situation where you'll need a pinch hitter here for Larson do up third in this inning.
- 1:30:20It's a swing and a drive down the line and right.
- 1:30:22But all the way to the wall and going to be played out the wall by took you down with it and how that turns wide at first comes to a skidding home.
- 1:30:29Back to the bag at first that is base hit number four for the giant off J.
- 1:30:35Hook it brings up all of a forgotten short stop with one up one time and fly out to center field.
- 1:30:48Don is a right hand batter batting number eight in the batting order.
- 1:30:52That leads the Giants 5 to J.
- 1:30:59Hook Jackson comes to the plate with a curveball hit on the ground to man.
- 1:31:02He had 30 plays to Charlie Neal for the fourth relay to play double play.
- 1:31:12It's just scoring it's a 5 4 3 double play from Felix Mancia at third to Charlie Neal at second to Frank Thomas at first.
- 1:31:22There are two men out and Bob Neiman is going to come up here to hit for Don Larson Bob Neiman is going to bat for Don Larson
- 1:31:34and the left hander Mike McCormick throwing in the bullpen Neiman chunky outfielder where his glasses swinging the bat and here's the announcement.
- 1:31:51Even with two baskets rid of one of them and comes out of now at fifth count of zero is standing a few steps out in front of the plate talking to his battery mate J.
- 1:31:58Hook.
- 1:32:04At this point the hits are all even the Giants have five and the Mets have five.
- 1:32:17The Giants have hit number five off J.
- 1:32:33Hook Bob Neiman you can pinch hitting rolls.
- 1:32:51That's the first game of the schedule doubleheader here at Polo Grand this Sunday afternoon.
- 1:33:07And now the two strike but from J.
- 1:33:09Hook to Neiman is low and away comes all the way back.
- 1:33:12We are tied and low.
- 1:33:14So it's one and two.
- 1:33:22For the San Francisco Giants now that Don Larson is out a little ballgame in that big bottom half the fourth the Giants use three pitchers.
- 1:33:32Here's the pitch to Neiman.
- 1:33:39The Giants are out of the ballgame.
- 1:33:44The Giants at the top of the fifth got no runs on one hit.
- 1:33:46No errors and none left in the four and a half.
- 1:33:49But he's a play that score is the New York Mets five the San Francisco Giants to end.
- 1:33:57The Polo Grand now Mike McCormick is coming in to pitch for the San Francisco Giants.

- 1:35:10Mike McCormick first came to the major league with the New York Giants here at the Polo Grand in New York.
- 1:35:21He is a left hander facing the right hand batter Cliff Cook.
- 1:35:28Looking at first side Tom Haller he has it now and here's the pitch.
- 1:35:33Full foul on the third baseman on the ground that will bring Cliff Cook back to the plate.
- 1:35:54At twenty three years of age Mike McCormick is a major league veteran in his seventh season in the major.
- 1:36:06They're stepping back into the batter's box now waggling the bat.
- 1:36:09McCormick deals and the pitch is high for ball.
- 1:36:14It's one and one.
- 1:36:16The Pittsburgh the rampaging St. Louis Cardinals have defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of three to two in the first game of a double header.
- 1:36:28That's it just a lot of cook.
- 1:36:31One two.
- 1:36:35The biggest winning season Mike McCormick ever had in the major leagues was 1960 when he won 15 and lost 12 for the San Francisco Giants.
- 1:36:42He was 13 and lost 16.
- 1:36:46He was on the New York Giants in 56 and 57 years of playing in a ground ball.
- 1:36:50Taking it short by Pagani gun to the car in time for the out.
- 1:36:57Cook grinding out for God to McCovey.
- 1:37:01One away and clean up better Frank Thomas coming up Thomas grounded out in the second but in the bottom half of the fourth he had a big two run double and later scored himself.
- 1:37:10He's got a hand if he comes up here.
- 1:37:21I've got one run in the top of the tent to beat the Pirates three to an extra inning game.
- 1:37:27That pitch is low.
- 1:37:29Frank Thomas.
- 1:37:31Boy face gets the win for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 1:37:35Randy McDaniel in relief takes the law that Whitfield got the home run in the tent to win it for the Cardinals.
- 1:37:46The fastball in there to Thomas at the belt it's one and one.
- 1:38:06The ball is going to roll all the way to the wall.
- 1:38:16Belief a look comes up with a player to stop it.
- 1:38:18He's on his way to second and he goes in standing as a loose throw is way off the bank.
- 1:38:21Believe the low has thrown the ball erratically around the ballpark.
- 1:38:25He overthrew the catcher at home played on one bag and that one was 15 feet off the bag at second.
- 1:38:32It is a double for Thomas.
- 1:38:36That doubles his last two times up.
- 1:38:38Bring the Phoenix Mancia who has walked in single.
- 1:38:41The New York Mets lead the San Francisco Giants by a score of five to in the bottom half of the fifth inning.
- 1:38:50Mike McCormick up into a stretch position.
- 1:38:52Thomas leads off the bag at second base.
- 1:38:54Here is the pitch to Mancia.
- 1:38:56It is low for ball one.
- 1:39:00Los Angeles Dodgers this afternoon have taken the first game of a double header from the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of nine to one.
- 1:39:13Again the pitch to Mancia taken outside to an all.
- 1:39:21By winning the first game of the doubleheader this afternoon the Dodgers.
- 1:39:25Now have a five and a half game lead over the third place Pittsburgh Pirates both play second game this afternoon in doubleheaders however.
- 1:39:37The two and a pitch to Mancia.
- 1:39:39Swung on and fouled off.
- 1:39:40Changes speed.
- 1:39:42Chopped it right down on the plate and then off to the right side.
- 1:39:45Two and one.
- 1:39:50The Giants scored two runs in the top of the first today to take a two nothing lead but the Mets came back to get five in the bottom of the fourth and the Mets lead five to.
- 1:40:10Karmic kicks and fire high and it's out three and one to Felix Mancia.
- 1:40:21Billy Pierce the starting pitcher and the pitcher of record as far as the Giants are concerned walk for men one in each of the first four innings.
- 1:40:31In fact he opened up the third and fourth innings by walking the first man that he faced Billy Pierce.
- 1:40:40Three one pitch and he walked in.
- 1:40:42Karmic has walked one man here going to first Thomas holding it second.
- 1:40:47And that's have runners at first and second one man out and Rod Canale is coming up.
- 1:40:58He's up for his first time in the ballgame.
- 1:41:08Neil is hitting two hundred fifty eight.
- 1:41:10He had two home runs one of them a grand slammer the only grand slammer hit by a New York Mets.
- 1:41:26Karmic comes set on the mound checks and deals and it's outside for a ball to Rod Canale.
- 1:41:46The rookie handyman of the New York Mets is Rod Canale.
- 1:41:53And he leaves it first Thomas at second pitch is one and a foul back onto the screen and out of play.
- 1:41:59It's one and one.
- 1:42:01Elio Chacon is kneeling in the on deck circle Chacon had a two run single in the bottom half of the fourth inning.
- 1:42:18There's a nice breeze blowing here at the Polo ground at this moment going out toward right center.
- 1:42:34Left hander Mike McCormick on the mound and the one one pitch.
- 1:42:39The left field line and Lewis coming over can't get it.
- 1:42:48He was going to make the catch and move on over the third the bases are loaded at man.
- 1:42:51He got the second and Neil is on with a single left field and Elio Chacon is coming up faces loaded one man out with the ball hit in the left field.
- 1:43:01He's going to go for it.
- 1:43:03Believe Hello and Frank Thomas the base runner at second had a whole lot to see whether or not he's going to be able to get there.
- 1:43:09So he was able to go only as far as third Bob Garibaldi is being sent out to the bullpen Bob Garibaldi who was signed for a figure estimated variously between one hundred and twenty five thousand one hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
- 1:43:28He's been in the bullpen recently eligible for participation in uniform with a jazz for the first time today has been sent to the bullpen to warm up.
- 1:43:39He was the outstanding player in the recent collegiate World Series at Omaha pitching for Santa Clara to the business at Hattie Leosha calling choking the bat ever so slightly and then waiting for a pitch from Mike McCormick.
- 1:43:53He's been in the bullpen single bottom half of the fourth and that's lead by doing they're making a bit more here in the bottom half of the fifth inning as a bit blown away dug up on a short hop by Tom Haller the catcher Bob Garibaldi is warming up in earnest and the bullpen or the San Francisco Giants.
- 1:44:13The pitch is low again coming in on a short hop to Haley Oshkahn.
- 1:44:32The New York Mets themselves made a bet to find Garibaldi did practically every game in Major League Baseball.
- 1:44:38One of the convincing facets of the offer by the Giants was that they would bring him to the big club immediately.
- 1:44:44There's a pitch in there for a car.
- 1:44:46Right.
- 1:44:47It's a one.
- 1:44:54Mike Thomas is the third.
- 1:44:56Felix Manzi is the second and Rod Canale is at first for the Mets.
- 1:45:02Mike McCormick is working straight away and with the wind.
- 1:45:05And the pitch one right at the ground ball back to McCormick he goes to play for the fourth three later first is in time a double play to retire the side.
- 1:45:14As you go on it's into a one two three double header if you're scoring.
- 1:45:19And so.
- 1:45:21In the bottom half of the fifth the Mets got no run on two hits.
- 1:45:26No errors and two left and at the end of five full innings to play the score is.
- 1:45:30The Mets five the Giants two.
- 1:45:40And now before we go to the sixth inning in order to allow our stations to identify themselves we pause now for station identification.
- 1:45:49You are to the W.G. wise connected to your New York Mets station the time.
- 1:45:53One minute past four p.m. by the W.G. Y. clock.
- 1:46:00For the Giants on the top of the six and lead the head of the batting order Chuck Taylor Jim Davenport and Maddie Alou.
- 1:46:07They think J.H. started to come all the way to the New York Mets.
- 1:46:11The curveball bending in their front door strikes to the left hand batter even up twice he plot out the right field and he hit into a double play.
- 1:46:31You ball is put into play and umpire Frank Walsh behind the plate.
- 1:46:34Fires it out there popping leather as J.H. takes the throw.
- 1:46:41The pitch is swung on and as the ground ball pulled back down the third it's a fair ball down the line going all the way to the wall.
- 1:46:50Chuck Hill around three hits for second.
- 1:46:52The ball around picked it up and fired it on and now holding it second is Chuck Hiller.
- 1:46:59Chuck Hiller opening up with a double down the line between Thomas and the bag here in the top half of the sixth right hand batter Jim Davenport coming up he doubled in the first inning and later scored.
- 1:47:15He popped out to the first up in the third so he's one for two left.
- 1:47:23Cook had a little trouble finding the handle out there in right field but no extra base was taken by Hiller on his plate so there is no air charge there.
- 1:47:37The kicks and fired a curve ball swung on a ground ball the man to us there and looks the runner back to second throw it the first in time no advance.
- 1:47:50One away Chuck Hiller still that second base and Maddie Alou the right fielders coming up batting number three and manager Alvin Darks batting order today hit by a pitch ball in the first inning he single hit the ball.
- 1:48:03One for one and he scored one run.
- 1:48:07Maddie Alou younger brother of the leaf alone believe that right Maddie that's left.
- 1:48:14It's the New York Mets five and the San Francisco Giants two in the first game of a schedule doubleheader at the Polo ground.
- 1:48:24They are off the rubber at the moment now up and into a set position.
- 1:48:33Miller leads out the bag at second to pitch to the plate is low for ball one.
- 1:48:40And he a little step back.
- 1:48:42Look down to whitey Lachman the coach at third for a sign.
- 1:48:46Chris Canazaro holding one finger a lot indicating one man out on deck for the San Francisco Giants their cleanup batter today Willie May again the pitch and it's a curve ball in there for a call strike.
- 1:49:05One and one outfield defense shaded around toward right Richie Ashman and center way over toward right field on the left hand batter Maddie Alou.
- 1:49:22He's going to charge playing over near the bag.
- 1:49:36And one at Maddie Alou moved up in the batter's box on the pitch with Gil Hodge's in the hospital having undergone surgery for a kidney stone and you'll be in the hospital 10 days and out of action for the six weeks.
- 1:49:56That's the first place and they have Mike Thomas playing first day in the first game of the doubleheader.
- 1:50:09And one to count to Maddie Alou the pitch is high.
- 1:50:26And Maddie now looks down to whitey Lachman to see whether or not he is free to rip away on three and one or whether he must take.
- 1:50:42Miller leads a second three one pitch it right in there.
- 1:50:56Anyway they can get them right here with the power coming up in the batting order.
- 1:50:59Maddie Alou to be followed by Willie Mays Willie McCovey and Pellete Alou.
- 1:51:12Miller at second and Maddie Alou steps out of the batter's box at the plate.
- 1:51:29And Maddie Alou takes off one time now at the 21 and to the stretch here to pay off it on full on the ground on the first base I'm skipping out into the stands back to the bag at first down hold to Maddie Alou.
- 1:51:57And that's the situation Giants batting in the top half of the sixth inning.
- 1:52:11And now Willie Mays is set to work with a pay off pitch and it's on the way curve ball on a grand ball on Charlie Neal he is up with it and he's going to free space and time.
- 1:52:27That is the reception given Willie Mays here at the Polo ground and it's mixed.
- 1:52:47Willie Mays has been a price he had to sacrifice five and a run in the first inning he fouled out the catcher in the fourth inning but every dangerous in the clay.
- 1:52:57Willie Mays with 25 home runs to his credit this season and that is high in the National League.
- 1:53:11And that's the ball dipping in there for a strike one to Willie Mays.
- 1:53:17Lean back a little and that one was bent right in.
- 1:53:23Hook takes him off and out of straight math right crowd his leg and he is set to continue.
- 1:53:29Big William McCovey now leaning on a bat in the on deck circle for the Giants as J.H.
- 1:53:34Hoopley the pitch midget outside and it's one and one.
- 1:53:41Hey it gets a handful of dirt along the handle the bat and comes back in.
- 1:53:52This time as it works straight away again on the rubber the pitch one and two the counter Willie Mays.
- 1:54:08And then the guy takes care of the crowd his leg and he's bothering him a little bit.
- 1:54:17He gets set for the one to fit it misses out that Chris Canna zero thinking he might get a call.
- 1:54:25That's the best and then fires the ball back out to J.H.
- 1:54:29It's even out of Mays at 2 2 Willie right now hitting three hundred four for the seed.
- 1:54:44Hook staring over at the base runner Chuck Miller leading off the bag of dirt.
- 1:54:50And now he's set to work the 2 2 pitch to Mays.
- 1:54:58J.H. with his second strike out of the day caught Willie Mays looking at him the top half of the sixth inning the Giants got no runs on one hit to double by Hiller no errors.
- 1:55:10And one man left throw at the end five and one half and he's a play at the Polo ground to score is the New York Mets five and the San Francisco Giants to and now a word from by a toy cigarette.
- 1:55:25We're going down to the bottom of the sixth inning and the New York Mets will send up Chris Canna zero J.H. and Richie Ashford.
- 1:55:31And that's leading by a score of five to J.H. pitching himself out of what could have been trouble there.
- 1:55:40And Chuck Hiller let off with a double move third on infield out and that right there.
- 1:55:50Chris Canna zero right hand batter has been up twice the thing and the third and funded into the other choice in the fourth is a vision that I've got right.
- 1:56:08And the fourth kind of error laid down a front throw was made to third there was an error on the throw but it was a judgmental the official story that a perfect though would have nailed the runner and so it became instead of a sacrifice a fearless choice.
- 1:56:21The difference is outside football it's one and one the difference being of course that sacrifice would not take on a time at bat while the choice does in the matter of figuring batting averages.
- 1:56:39One one pitch taken high as kind of there started the swing and checked it in time.
- 1:56:51Game time tomorrow night here at the Polo ground 8 p.m. the Giants and the Mets.
- 1:56:59Big crowd on hand yesterday for old time is a big crowd on hand for today's Sunday doubleheader. Here's the pitch swung out of the ground ball the short second by Jose Pagan he plays across to McCovey in time and kind of zero has grounded out short the first that will bring up pitcher J.H.
- 1:57:14who is in the on deck circle and advancing to the plate right now.
- 1:57:17Hook comes out to the on deck circle and he's getting a hand now he goes to the plate.
- 1:57:33He's left hand batter struck out swinging and hit into a force play.
- 1:57:48Moves up as though the button takes a call strike Richie Ashburn is now on base for the New York Mets he has drawn two walks and this afternoon for game one of them with the bases loaded driving around now the ball is dragged down the first base line fielded by McCormick and he plays over to McCovey in time
- 1:58:10and he's got a little bit of a drag but by J.H. but he is out one to three if you're scoring to away nobody on for the Mets and the bottom of the six and Richie Ashburn's coming up.
- 1:58:25The New York Mets five and the San Francisco Giants to Mike McCormick the fourth giant pitcher of the day working on the mound as Ashburn is a step back and asked watch take a look at the ball and Empire
- 1:58:53Frank watch does put another ball in play and throw that one out
- 1:59:11left and a Mike McCormick now into the wind up and the fastball coming in high for ball one
- 1:59:22Charlie Neil is on deck for the Mets
- 1:59:30as a call strike the Ashburn one and one
- 1:59:46that pitches high for ball the bottom of the fifth when the Mets loaded him up on Mike McCormick.
- 1:59:54How dark had Bob Garibaldi throwing in the bullpen did not have to use them as she thrown it into a double play that got him out of the inning.
- 2:00:04Two balls and one strike to count to Richie Ashburn pitches eyes out three and one out of Richie.
- 2:00:18This is the first game of a schedule doubleheader here at the Polo Grounds this afternoon.
- 2:00:25This season the Giants have won six doubleheaders lost one and split one. They have swept two previous twin bills from the Mets this season.
- 2:00:35Three one pitch to Ashburn he walked him and Ashburn has walked for the third time today.
- 2:00:45That will bring up Charlie Neil Ashburn now has eleven hundred fifty five career walks.
- 2:00:58He gets on base great great deal Charlie Neil hit into a double play walk and hit into a double play.
- 2:01:16The Tigers unfurled it back onto the screen for a strike one.
- 2:01:22Next up for the Mets.
- 2:01:47Twenty three year old Mike McCormick.
- 2:01:57His seventh season in the Major League.
- 2:02:06With a two strike pitch to Neil's one on and a little number off the end of the bat on the first base line of foul ball taken by McCovey in foul territory halfway to the bag at first.
- 2:02:16He holds it to strike.
- 2:02:26Now they're coming back to pick up the mask he had scurry down the first base line in pursuit of that foul ball.

- 2:21:43That's five and the Giants to.
- 2:21:50For those of you who may have joined us late.
- 2:21:53The New York Mets have lost the services of Gil Hodges or possibly as long as a month or Gil underwent surgery for removal of a kidney stone at Roosevelt Hospital today.
- 2:22:07All of us certainly want to send along our very best wishes to go.
- 2:22:10Gil will be confined for probably 10 to 14 days after surgery.
- 2:22:15Now Harvey Keene is coming out to bat for Mike McCormick in the top of the eighth inning.
- 2:22:44Mike McCormick in relief.
- 2:22:49Work three innings allowed no runs scattered three hits walk to and struck out one.
- 2:22:55And now in the bullpen the Giants have one Marischal warming up.
- 2:23:00And they also have Bob Garibaldi warming up.
- 2:23:15Hard hitting Harvey batting at 312 on the year.
- 2:23:19Here's the wind up pitch by a hook and it's a strike on the outside corner one ball one strike.
- 2:23:39Bob Garibaldi is in uniform during the game and on the roster for the first time.
- 2:23:44And there by hook strike to one and two now on Harvey Keene Harvey hitting for Mike McCormick.
- 2:23:49We're in the eighth inning with the Mets in front of the opener of this twin bill five to two.
- 2:24:03Harvey a lifetime 300 hitter.
- 2:24:06One to delivery a ground ball on the right side of the diamond to his left is Charlie Neal he begs over to Thomas in time getting Harvey Keene.
- 2:24:16One away nobody on now the eighth inning it's the top of the batting order for the Giants and they'll have their second baseman Chuck Hiller batting.
- 2:24:23He doubled his last time up one hit in three trips.
- 2:24:40In comes the pitch by J. Good pitch off the fifth this foul back strike one.
- 2:24:53Chuck Hiller the young Giants second baseman is from Johnsburg Illinois.
- 2:25:06Now the pitch on the way a foul ball back in the count goes straight to.
- 2:25:33The second game in Philadelphia the Dodgers and Fills are tied 1 1 in the second one ball and two strikes now on second baseman Chuck Hiller.
- 2:25:43Jim Davenport is on deck with Maddie Alou to follow.
- 2:25:53This is game 12 between the Mets and Giants this year.
- 2:26:03One to pitch bad Jay Hook just got a piece of that when a foul ball in the dirt.
- 2:26:08So the count remains one and two umpire Frank Walsh examines the ball at the stay and play.
- 2:26:31Now Jay over the head down comes the arm a long drive that's foul up in the upper deck out of play.
- 2:26:40He teed off on that one but got too far out in front and it was foul by a fairly wide margin.
- 2:26:48Count remains at one ball and two strikes on Chuck Hiller.
- 2:26:52Well either the ace of the Giants now staff Juan Marichal.
- 2:26:57One of the wealthiest young men in the country Bob Garibaldi will be coming on the pitch.
- 2:27:02Ground ball on the right side running to his left Charlie Neely feels it on the rim of the grass throws the first two down.
- 2:27:12We ought to try to borrow a few bucks from that fellow he's got some money.
- 2:27:16No one knows for sure what he did get this time but they talk about one hundred and fifty thousand.
- 2:27:21That's up there pretty good. Well I'll say if you go to college an awful lot.
- 2:27:27Yes indeed. Well he was voted the outstanding player in the college world series at Omaha Nebraska.
- 2:27:39Jim Davenport the hitter in the pitches ball one. Jim has one for three doubled in the first inning.
- 2:27:46Bob Garibaldi is a very impressive young man to talk to.
- 2:27:51Tall well-muscled right hander with a good fastball.
- 2:27:58Breaking ball over on the outside corner one ball one strike.
- 2:28:03We're in the eighth inning two outs and nobody on Mets leading five to two.
- 2:28:09Mattie Alou is on deck with Willie Mays to follow the one one delivery a little bit outside ball two two and one.
- 2:28:25Better and Roy Severs cracked the home run of the second inning in Philadelphia.
- 2:28:29The tie of the Dodgers there one one now at the end of two innings Ortega against Mahaffey.
- 2:28:35And Severs after probably the slowest start in his career has really been hitting for the last month for the Philadelphia Phil.
- 2:28:45A number of the real good hitters in baseball got off very slow this year but they're all hitting and hitting very well now.
- 2:28:52You'll say the cream rises to the top foul ball off the plate back toward the dugout.
- 2:28:59You know Ralph over that first month or five weeks Roberto Clemente and Frank Robinson couldn't buy a hit.
- 2:29:06Robinson I remember in Cincinnati I was really down he was in the hundreds.
- 2:29:11Well you know they all the good hitters they all come up to the top the cream separates from the milk and the whole season's over.
- 2:29:18You're going to do it you're going to do it.
- 2:29:20Have a two to pitch a fly ball loop the short right field this is going to be in for a base hit running to the line for it is Cliff Cook and on his way to second is
- 2:29:28Davenport he's in with a Texas League double down the right field line.
- 2:29:44So it hits the game now for San Francisco and Matty Alou comes up Matty Alou has been hit by a pitch single to center and grounded out second to first.
- 2:29:58Another veteran off to a slow start this year who now is well over the 300 mark with Henry Aaron.
- 2:30:16Now Jay up in pitching position the batter is Matty Alou Davenport on second lined hard but it'll be foul on the right field line and into the corner.
- 2:30:32Carl Warwick get a two run homer off Bob Buell in the fourth inning in Houston.

- 2:31:15The Cardinals won the opener on a 10th inning home run by Fred Whitefield.
- 2:31:20They won it three to two.
- 2:31:25Now Jay Hook with a two strike count on Matty Alou Davenport on second to down we're in the top of the eighth inning.
- 2:31:36Now Jay makes the slow stretch the one second stop here's the pitch breaking ball way out and one ball and two strikes.
- 2:32:02The Cardinals win to the count on Matty Alou Matty hitting a two sixty three.
- 2:32:07They play him around the right as the full hitter ground ball slashed toward short backhanded by Chicago on the third save.
- 2:32:14Everybody's on and so Willie Mays comes up with runners on first and third.
- 2:32:22He'll you should go and made a glittering play in the field a backhand that grounder it toward the hole and he threw the man to you.
- 2:32:32The throw is going to be there in time to get Davenport and man to you.
- 2:32:36It made a run on the grounder off the bag and not in a position to tag out Davenport.
- 2:32:41And so it goes as a base hit.
- 2:32:51The
- 2:32:54base knocked in a run in the 82nd of the year and the first to fly ball to center.
- 2:32:59Since then Willie has fouled out the count of zero and taken a call third strike.
- 2:33:03Willie over to in the game batting a 3 0 3.
- 2:33:12Now Jay hook off the stretch down comes his pitch just off the outside corner is ball one.
- 2:33:21Now Bob Miller and Ray Davio are up and throwing in the bullpen for the New York Mets.
- 2:33:29And the Mets beat the Giants and Candlestick Park.
- 2:33:32It was Bob Miller who came on to pitch the eighth and ninth innings and protect the lead.
- 2:33:39The Mets ready to pitch the Mets outside ball to
- 2:33:50count as Earl moves out to the mound to give hook a chance to catch his breath.
- 2:33:55The always dangerous Willie McCovey waiting on deck.
- 2:34:20Big spot in the game right here for the New York Mets Giants runners at the corners to mend down Mays the other
- 2:34:28to open ball three outside and low
- 2:34:34and now hook is behind on Willie three and oh and Mays was checking with Whitey Lachman
- 2:34:39to see if he has the green light.
- 2:34:50Willie McCovey crashed on deck
- 2:35:00now Mays back in the batter's box the count three and nothing
- 2:35:04and the pitch to him he swings a line drive the left field coming in fast and making the catch.
- 2:35:09Can you
- 2:35:15get deals running in the short left field to grab the liner hit by Willie Mays and the side is out.
- 2:35:21Willie had a three nothing pitch lined at heart but can you came in fast to grab it.
- 2:35:27Bad retired in the eighth inning no runs two hits no errors two left on now at the end of seven and a half innings to score
- 2:35:36the Mets five and the Giants to
- 2:35:43well those are the Polo grounds now will be watching the debut of Bob Garibaldi
- 2:35:56who was signed for a tremendous bonus by the San Francisco Giants
- 2:36:05played for the Santa Clara Broncos this year and the college World Series at Omaha his team went all the way to the finals
- 2:36:14and he was voted the outstanding player in the college tournament at Omaha.
- 2:36:20Every big league ballclub was after Garibaldi including the New York Mets who made him a very very attractive offer but Garibaldi simply
- 2:36:28referred to remain in his own backyard.
- 2:36:35So Bob Garibaldi big hard throwing a right hander
- 2:36:41he signed out of his sophomore season

- 2:38:47and Al Dark wasting no time in pressing him into service
- 2:38:54call strike indicates the kind of confidence that Alvin has in this young right hander when he puts him in this kind of a ballgame
