- 0:00Welcome to Rick and that Michelle chick.
- 0:02I'm that Michelle chick. And I'm Rick.
- 0:05Welcome, welcome. So we are both animal lovers,
- 0:10and we also volunteered to help animals.
- 0:12I foster cats and kittens, and you sit on the board of POP,
- 0:15which is the pet overpopulation program.
- 0:18Is that right? Did I say that?
- 0:19Right, absolutely. In the tri-cities.
- 0:21Yep, absolutely. So I first read the headline
- 0:25that said zoo in Denmark wants to feed your pets to its
- 0:31predators. OK, I instantly thought cats and
- 0:34dogs since it said pets instantly.
- 0:38That was my first thought, right?
- 0:39I mean, any normal person would think that, right?
- 0:42OK, well it's definitely a click bait headline.
- 0:46And so of course I read the story.
- 0:47I clicked it. The zoo is asking for pets that
- 0:52are near the end of their life, and they're asking for chickens,
- 0:56rabbits, Guinea pigs, even horses.
- 1:00They will be humanely euthanized by the zoo and then used at it's
- 1:07food. So because I also had in my mind
- 1:10that they were just gonna like, like throw the pets alive in the
- 1:15cage with the lion. You know when you see when you
- 1:18read this headline. You see that, but you do see
- 1:22that. I mean, you, you see that when
- 1:24they, you know, when you're watching the tiger, Tiger King
- 1:26and all this crapola, Yeah. Yeah, which again, I had that in
- 1:32my mind that they're throwing like this cat or dog in the cage
- 1:35with the lion alive. But I am not a fan of rodents as
- 1:39pets. Like I cannot, I can handle
- 1:43snakes, but I cannot handle like mice, rats, hamsters, Guinea
- 1:47pigs, etcetera. So I really don't mind if
- 1:50they're feeding them like Guinea pigs and rabbits and people eat
- 1:54rabbits. And I'm a horse lover.
- 1:58I had a horse growing up. And so my first thought was, oh,
- 2:02no, not horses. But then I thought about, you
- 2:05know, when they get old, they usually, they usually get sold
- 2:08off to the slaughterhouse to be made into dog food at the dog
- 2:13food factory. And I know how they are killed
- 2:16there. So I'm thinking like this would
- 2:19be a better way for them to go, you know?
- 2:23It's kind of interesting. So there are things that that
- 2:27and my, my Co host Patty like likes to look at these these
- 2:30videos. I do not.
- 2:31So there are things that I refuse to watch.
- 2:34I refuse to watch any video where an animal's getting hurt.
- 2:38I refuse to watch like, like you said, if there was a video of
- 2:41them feeding, even the if, even if it's just the carcass of a
- 2:44dog or a cat thrown out to a lion, I refuse to.
- 2:49I just don't. I just I don't watch those
- 2:51things where other people are like so fascinated.
- 2:53Like really? I mean, what if that what if
- 2:56that was your ass getting chewed on by, you know, by a lion?
- 2:58It's it's one of those things. Now I would like to see if it
- 3:02was humanly possible. I'd love to see the lion eating
- 3:05the poacher. Now what?
- 3:07How come? How, how come we never show
- 3:09videos of that where the lion attacks the poacher?
- 3:12Now that to me is a great video. I want to.
- 3:14I want to see that. Yeah.
- 3:15So which I mean that has happened a couple of times,
- 3:17hasn't it? Hasn't like an elephant?
- 3:19I've never seen the video I know.
- 3:20Like killed the hunters, which wasn't that lion just killed
- 3:25that super popular lion shoot. Was his name Goldie or Blondie?
- 3:30I'm drawing a blank now. Yeah, that.
- 3:32Was such a popular that story I can't stand yeah the one where
- 3:36they they lure the old the old lion.
- 3:38We talked about that years ago, I think and.
- 3:40Yeah, this is a new lion. They did the same thing where
- 3:43they baited him with food to get him off his preserve.
- 3:47So he, you know, when they're in their preserve, they can't be
- 3:49haunted. And they lured him off and he
- 3:52was super popular and they killed.
- 3:54Him and and and and that's one of those things even Megan and
- 3:57I, my wife go around and roundabout because she's like
- 4:00and people people make that argument like well, it's a way
- 4:04of life in Africa and that's how they make money.
- 4:07Well, you know what let's find other ways to make money.
- 4:09I I just have never understood hunting something to extinction.
- 4:14I don't understand. I mean, I understand.
- 4:16OK, so I grew up with the Grand Round River.
- 4:18I understand hunting elk or hunting deer.
- 4:21But that's for food. I mean, that's how I grew up
- 4:23too. Right.
- 4:24But but, but even from a plentiful standpoint, there's
- 4:28plenty of, you know, plenty of deer, plenty of elk, and you buy
- 4:31A tag every year and you get your limit.
- 4:33And I mean, poachers are the worst, too.
- 4:35Poachers are the worst. But I have never understood
- 4:38killing zebras, rhinos, giraffes, especially a giraffe.
- 4:42A giraffe is gigantic. Or an elephant.
- 4:46What? What's that?
- 4:46Or an elephant, I mean. Yeah, it's like, I mean, I just,
- 4:50I, I, I can't do that. I don't understand that.
- 4:52I don't think, I don't think you're AI don't think you're a
- 4:54man. I don't think you're macho, you
- 4:56know, and like you said, when you have to, when you have to
- 4:58lure a lion out of its den to kill it.
- 5:02And, and then, and also, I've always thought if you're going
- 5:06to do something like that, the animal should have a sporting
- 5:08chance to get away. So, and, and so it's like, so
- 5:13when I do read stories where they get gored to death by a
- 5:16bull or anything, I, I laugh. I'm sorry, I have no sympathy.
- 5:19It's kind of like the, the, the, the COVID people that refuse to
- 5:23wear masks and those people that were like, I'm not, I'm not
- 5:27getting, you know, I'm not getting a shot.
- 5:29OK, don't get the shot. And then two weeks later you
- 5:31sent a Facebook, Sorry, Steve passed away.
- 5:33Well, right. Bye dumb ass.
- 5:35I mean, so I but you already know how I feel about that, I
- 5:38think. I think human beings are
- 5:40basically the worst thing that's ever happened to the planet
- 5:42Earth. Oh definitely, we are going to
- 5:45kill ourselves. Yeah.
- 5:47Well, at the end of the day, absolutely.
- 5:49And and for what? I guess I don't, I don't
- 5:52understand. Like you said, I understand, you
- 5:56know, I, I, and, and I'm not a vegetarian.
- 5:59I'm not a vegetarian. I eat, I eat chicken, I eat
- 6:01meat, I eat, you know, but but parts of me have thought, you
- 6:04know, maybe I should be a vegetarian because I've seen,
- 6:07because it's funny is these these horrific videos you see
- 6:10online now to where it's like that you show a cow getting, you
- 6:14know, going to go to the slaughter and it's and it's even
- 6:17the inhumane way on how we treat that cow when they show the
- 6:20video. Like it's one of those things
- 6:23where I struggle with that a lot.
- 6:25And so it's one of the and I do understand circle of life, but
- 6:30why do we have to be be cruel in why?
- 6:35Why do we have to be cruel in that that circle of life?
- 6:37Right. So yeah, I'm like you.
- 6:40I don't like rodents. I don't like snakes.
- 6:43I don't like lizards. So you're fine.
- 6:45You're fine. If the zoo feeds those to them,
- 6:47they're, well, you. Said that they were like towards
- 6:50the end of life. Yeah, that's what they, Yes, the
- 6:53zoo is asking for animals that are towards the end of their
- 6:57life. Obviously horses, they can't
- 6:59have certain diseases and that kind of thing.
- 7:01So they kind of have have to be screened, which understandably
- 7:03so. And yeah, and they said that the
- 7:06zookeeper would humanely euthanize them, which is what we
- 7:10would do to our own pets at their end of life.
- 7:12But I would not, I wouldn't toss Barkley to a lion.
- 7:16No, they're. Not I mean they're.
- 7:17Dogs or cats? Right.
- 7:19I mean at. Least not yet.
- 7:21Right, right. So it's one of those things
- 7:23where I, I look at, you know, Bodhi, Barkley, Roxy who passed
- 7:26away, They're members of the family.
- 7:28So, but but then again, there are some people in my family
- 7:31that I would toss to a line. So I guess I really got to
- 7:33rethink that. I'll, I'll get back to you on
- 7:35it. You're you're still on the fence
- 7:37is where is that going? What's that?
- 7:39You're still on the fence? Well, yes, but but even then,
- 7:44you know not, and not to get off topic, but even the worst person
- 7:48to me, even my worst enemy, I don't think I'd ever want
- 7:52anything to befall them because then I'd feel guilty later about
- 7:55it now if it happened to them. Now it happened to them and I
- 7:59didn't 'cause it. That's what I'm just like.
- 8:01Then I then I would, then I would giggle my ass off.
- 8:04So as long as I didn't 'cause their downfall.
- 8:07Right. So of course.
- 8:08Then I then I'm good, then I'm good.
- 8:10But if Karma got him, if karma got him, oh, I'd be like.
- 8:13Yeah, yeah. I have no problem with people
- 8:16getting what they deserve so. Absolutely.
- 8:19Oh yeah. I mean, I am definitely.
- 8:21I am definitely. You already know me.
- 8:22Want to know? I'm an eye for an eye kind of
- 8:24guy, so always have been. You.
- 8:26You mistreat somebody or mistreat something, guess what?
- 8:29I hope it comes back tenfold. I got no problem with that.
- 8:32Yeah, Shaylee tried to be vegetarian.
- 8:34Speaking of, you know, you want you thinking you should be
- 8:37vegetarian. She tried to be vegetarian.
- 8:39I think she was like 10 and she opened the pantry door and you
- 8:44know, the ramen like cup of noodles.
- 8:47Well, we all we had was chicken flavor and she wanted one.
- 8:50And she just kind of stood there for a second and she goes, can I
- 8:54eat this? And I said, well, I don't know
- 8:57if this is real chicken or fake chicken.
- 8:59I don't know. It's just.
- 9:00Chicken flavoring. So I don't.
- 9:01Yeah, I don't know. Yeah.
- 9:03So I'm guessing no, you probably should.
- 9:05I, I don't know. I'm I'm sure there's some kind
- 9:07of app that will tell us, but and then she goes, well, I don't
- 9:11want to be a vegetarian anymore. I want that damn ramen.
- 9:15I want that ramen with chicken. It lasted a day.
- 9:18She was also 10. So, you know, a for effort.
- 9:21She tried and thought about it better than most the most adults
- 9:24do. Yeah, well, I've been on this,
- 9:26I've been on this diet. So I lost 20 lbs on this diet.
- 9:29And so I did try Boca burgers and different things, plant
- 9:32based, different things and, and so, so I thought, well, if I had
- 9:37to be vegetarian, I think I could get away, you know, I
- 9:39could do it, yeah. Some of it's OK, we played the
- 9:42butter and the sour cream, the plant based stuff and it's still
- 9:47yeah has that plant like after tastiness to it, even some of
- 9:52the really good stuff so. Yeah, same with, for me,
- 9:55cauliflower. Every time.
- 9:56Every time I've ever been on a diet, I've tried cauliflower.
- 9:58It tastes like shit no matter what you try to do to it.
- 10:00Cauliflower and I just Thai rice.
- 10:02I can't, and I do it every and I do it to myself every single
- 10:05time. I'm like, oh, I'll try a little,
- 10:07you know, butter or whatever. Nope, tastes like crap.
- 10:10So I like roasted cauliflower. Not in my, not as my pizza
- 10:13crust, but I like it. OK.
- 10:15All right. So.
- 10:17Yeah, so, but yeah, those, so those, those kind of videos or
- 10:19those kind of things, I, I try to avoid anything that hurts
- 10:22another animal. I I, I and I guess even as a
- 10:26kid, remember we watched Mutual of Omaha.
- 10:28Oh yes, that was traumatizing. Yeah, Marlon Perkins and all
- 10:31that. I mean, as a kid you're like,
- 10:33and you know, and the lion attacks the zebra and all that.
- 10:37I mean, as kids we and we watch it in school.
- 10:39Oh yeah, we had to sit there. They'd, you know, wheel in the
- 10:42ginormous TV and we have to watch that.
- 10:46Bambi was the movie that traumatized me.
- 10:48I would think I was like 4 or 5 when it came out.
- 10:52Of course, that traumatized me so bad as a little kid.
- 10:56Like, I mean so bad. And my dad was a hunter, so.
- 11:01Why yeah, why does no one ever call out Disney for the fact
- 11:04that they always kill the parents off all the and?
- 11:05It's always the mom. It's always.
- 11:07Well, except for in Lion King. That's, but that's a different.
- 11:10Right. But Mufasa, I still cried during
- 11:12Mufasa dying. Absolutely.
- 11:14Of course I love Mufasa, you know.
- 11:16Yeah, we'd be watching Lion King and Shaylee would make should be
- 11:18like, speed it up, speed it up, you know, the part where he's
- 11:22going to die. So I'd have to Fast forward to
- 11:24pass that part every single time.
- 11:26Of course, Yeah. Fox is the man.
- 11:28How? Yeah, exactly So so.
- 11:31And and for us. I know Logan used to love the
- 11:34Homeward Bound series. Oh yes.
- 11:36What what with with is it shadow and and what's the There's a
- 11:42cat? With Sally Field trying to think
- 11:43of a cat's name. Shoot.
- 11:45And I want to say it's Chancer Chase is the dog, which is
- 11:47Michael J. Fox, I think it's chance.
- 11:50It's chance, Chance. It's been so long since the kid
- 11:52to watch. That girl, the little Yeah, the.
- 11:54I mean, I know you're oh, sassy. Yes.
- 11:57Sassy is the name of the cat I. Should have remembered that
- 11:59because that's why Matthew's cat is named Sassy, but Sassy she's
- 12:03not. But I mean.
- 12:03But even movies like Benji and Lassie.
- 12:07Old Yeller, Hello. That was the most traumatizing.
- 12:12Horrible. And we watched that in school.
- 12:15Oh, and we also watched the the one.
- 12:17Is it where the red Fern grows or whatever?
- 12:18Where's the the the baby deer or whatever?
- 12:20It's like not the what the effort we watch in this, you
- 12:23know, looking looking back, it's like, what are we watching this
- 12:26in school for? Man, no wonder Gen.
- 12:28Z is messed up. Look at all the things.
- 12:32They probably don't have to watch.
- 12:32Yeah, they, yeah, the new kid, the kids coming up probably
- 12:34don't have to watch any of this stuff.
- 12:35Where they see worse stuff? I mean they have YouTube and all
- 12:38TikTok kind of stuff, so video games I.
- 12:41Don't. I don't know, I think.
- 12:42I think. We didn't have.
- 12:43We saw it. We saw what Romeo and Juliet
- 12:46where you got a little side boob.
- 12:47That was about all you got. Got to see a little bit of that
- 12:50and then. Is that what you remember?
- 12:52Well, that's what I remember and then they'll create for me going
- 12:54through school, one of the craziest videos that they don't
- 12:57they don't our movies a was nanook of the North and you'll
- 13:00have to go do a little. You'll have to go do what?
- 13:03Does that sound familiar? Because we, we were showing it
- 13:06like in fourth or fifth grade where it's the Eskimos and how
- 13:09they keep warm and they live in an igloo.
- 13:11And it's called Nanuk of the North.
- 13:13And it's a, and it's a movie from like 19401950, but it's an
- 13:16educational movie, you know, and it was weird because it was
- 13:20almost like, it was almost like going to the library and looking
- 13:22at the National Geographic. Because remember when you first
- 13:24saw your first boobs or whatever it was, it was National
- 13:27Geographic in the school library.
- 13:29And so this Nanuk of the North movie, of course had one.
- 13:32And, and now the family's getting ready for bedtime.
- 13:34And you see but boobs, you see boobs.
- 13:37But you know, you're great. But I mean, it's educational.
- 13:39Right. I mean, skin to skin is how you
- 13:41stay warm. That's how they stayed warm.
- 13:44So but it's called Nanook of the North maybe.
- 13:46So when is old enough as we didn't remember that and that
- 13:48and that's why it is familiar when you go do a little search
- 13:50after you get off the podcast. Yeah, now I'm gonna have to go
- 13:52watch it be traumatized even more.
- 13:56Yeah. So I, I do, I, I don't, I don't
- 13:58think none of the kids have to go through what we had to go
- 13:59through. So no Mutual of Omaha, no
- 14:03different different things like that that you know, but it's
- 14:07again, I understand why that zoo's doing that.
- 14:10I understand and and I guess a horse is a horse is tough to
- 14:13dispose of. Oh, yeah, so.
- 14:16And legally, you can't just go bury.
- 14:18Well, I mean, in the United States, I don't know if this is
- 14:22a denim. I don't.
- 14:23Know No, you can't, especially in our state.
- 14:26I just know this because my aunt's old horse died and so
- 14:29they couldn't just, you know, get a backhoe and bury it on our
- 14:33property. So you have to they had.
- 14:35To dispose of your horse, yeah, yeah, that's interest and not
- 14:39and not just taxidermy where they stuff them.
- 14:41I mean, you could you. Love that horse.
- 14:44You could if you want to. But how expensive it would be to
- 14:47stuff a horse? That's got to be expensive.
- 14:49Well, I mean if you love that horse, I guess it would be worth
- 14:53it I you. Know I've thought about that for
- 14:55my old animals and I thought that's a little creepy I mean I
- 14:57thought, you know, I talked to Megan about.
- 15:00That yeah with their cats and dogs.
- 15:01Shaylee talks about doing it with our one eyed cat that she
- 15:05loves, so I just think having him.
- 15:08I just think it's a Creepian. Yeah.
- 15:10I mean, on one hand I think it like, yeah, having Phoebe
- 15:14stuffed, but then I'm like, Nah, I don't know if I.
- 15:16Well, I mean, again, my dad was a hunter.
- 15:19And when you have the deer head with the little glass beady eyes
- 15:24at night, when the light shines off of their little glass eyes
- 15:28as you're trying to walk from your bedroom to your bathroom
- 15:31and it freaks you the fuck out. Yeah.
- 15:33Yeah. Like, like that's I I mean, your
- 15:36cat or your dog would be the same.
- 15:37They would have little glass eyes just, like sitting there
- 15:40staring at you. I just think, yeah, I've been
- 15:43whatever way you want them to. You know, cats are sometimes
- 15:46like curled up. They you know, I've.
- 15:50Seen, I've watched enough of TV shows or YouTube channels where
- 15:53they where they've stuffed their animal and then you're like,
- 15:56well, that's kind of that's creepy.
- 15:58There was a TV, there was a TV show about it.
- 16:00There was a TV show actually on A&E or whatever about stuffing
- 16:04your pets and they go pick up their pets and stuff like.
- 16:09Which I'm they're doing that with people.
- 16:11Haven't you seen the funerals where people are say there was a
- 16:15guy that left his motorcycle and they had him sitting on the
- 16:18motorcycle like at the funeral. They're not necessarily stuffed.
- 16:24I'm not really sure how they're preserving them, but I've just
- 16:27seen little bits about this that or like some guy was sitting in
- 16:30his classic car and yeah, it looks freaky because obviously
- 16:36they're dead and they don't look the same.
- 16:39So cars only put so much makeup on someone.
- 16:43That is creepy. That's creepy.
- 16:45People are doing that, so I guess, you know, if we want to
- 16:49be someplace we love or with our car.
- 16:53Have you already decided how are you going to be buried or
- 16:56cremated? Have you decided that?
- 16:59Oh there, sorry I was glitching for a second.
- 17:02Have you decided if you're going to be buried or cremated?
- 17:05Cremated. Cremated.
- 17:07Yeah. So pretty much Megan is Megan
- 17:10wants to be cremated and then she wants to come back as a
- 17:12tree. That's kind of what we
- 17:14discussed. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 17:15Well, you can be made into fertilizer in our state, you
- 17:19know. Certainly can be.
- 17:19Made into vinyl records Nowadays you can be made into lots of
- 17:22different. Things, yeah, cremated for me.
- 17:25I don't want any bugs coming in. I mean, even though I'm dead,
- 17:28but the thought of that just grosses me out, I think.
- 17:31It would be for me, being such a comic book lover, it'd be cool
- 17:34to be mixed into a comic book or something.
- 17:35There you go. Yeah, I'm sure they can mix you
- 17:38into the ink and. Yeah, something prints you out,
- 17:41but I already know. But you know, I already
- 17:42discussed in a previous podcast where you know, my ass is gone
- 17:46anyway because you remember Megan, Megan got mad about my
- 17:49mom being in the house. So I know that I would not be
- 17:51long for the world as ashes. I'm going to be dumped
- 17:54somewhere. I don't know where I'm going to
- 17:55be dumped, but I'll be dumped somewhere.
- 17:58Maybe at a Comic Con. She'll take you to a Comic Con.
- 18:01She will. Yeah.
- 18:01Sprinkle you all over. You know, I don't even think
- 18:04she'd be sentimental. I don't even, I don't think she
- 18:06has a sentimental bone in her body about those.
- 18:08Things so you're going to. Get yourself knowing my knowing
- 18:11my luck, I'll be out on the front porch.
- 18:13I. Don't know and the rain will
- 18:15wash me away. Yeah, I was just going to say
- 18:17she could just sweep you up. Sweep you away?
- 18:21Well, since we're talking about dead people, we can transition
- 18:23to the other thing I wanted to talk about which.
- 18:28OK. So did you see this AI version
- 18:32of the Parkland deceased victim? So weird.
- 18:37Jim Acosta interviewed. Have you seen that?
- 18:39I have not tell me about it. OK, so there's an AI generated
- 18:44Joaquin Oliver. He's one of the victims from the
- 18:48Parkland school shooting, which his parents created this AI
- 18:53version of him. So it's his parents, you know,
- 18:56you know, wanting this to happen.
- 18:58And then they wanted the interview.
- 19:00They wanted Jim Acosta to interview him.
- 19:03And so he, I watched it because I, of course, I was fascinated.
- 19:07He discusses gun control measures, obviously, because his
- 19:11parents do have a nonprofit for gun control.
- 19:15And then Jim is asking him basic questions that he he talks about
- 19:21movies. I'm at first I thought it was a
- 19:23little bit creepy, but then I started thinking, OK, if I lost
- 19:29a kid so tragically, I would probably do the same.
- 19:34Because the mom was talking, she said that sometimes she'll go
- 19:38and talk to this AI generated version of her son and ask him
- 19:43questions. And so in my mind, I'm like,
- 19:45yeah, I mean, if I lost a kid so tragically, I would probably do
- 19:48that. But now some people are raising
- 19:51questions about AI generating dead people and the ethics
- 19:55surrounding it. And my thought is, well, the
- 19:57parents did it themselves. So right there, that makes it OK
- 20:02as, you know, as his parents, if they did it and had it produced.
- 20:08But of course with AI, you know bad people are going to do bad
- 20:11things. You know, with the deceased
- 20:14people and who knows what's going to happen.
- 20:18I mean look at all the AI generated deep fake videos that
- 20:21are out that you can't really tell are even fake.
- 20:24So I can't imagine what people are going to do with deceased
- 20:28loved ones and try to get people.
- 20:32This thing is all this thing is all over the place and and then
- 20:35the parents that I I like the parents.
- 20:37Their reasoning is this is how they get to spend time with
- 20:41their son. I guess they've inputted his
- 20:43favorite movies, different things like that.
- 20:46They, they got somehow they got his speaking voice and they.
- 20:51I didn't I. Don't know how they got the
- 20:52speaking voice. There was nothing, yeah, there
- 20:55was nothing in the article that I read and I don't.
- 20:58And in the little snippet that I watched of Jim Acosta doing the
- 21:02interview, nothing is really said about that.
- 21:04So I'm not sure how they. But you figure AI can do
- 21:07anything with voices now. So.
- 21:09Right. Absolutely.
- 21:10It just regenerated his voice from when he was a teenager
- 21:15before the shooting happened. I guess if you had voice of your
- 21:19loved one. Well, and, and this, this
- 21:23avatar, it's got information that it's gleaned from the
- 21:27Internet and then things Oliver wrote, said posted online.
- 21:31So it is parts of his personality are in the AI avatar
- 21:34that they've created. I mean, I mean, and, and even
- 21:38the mom says it's not about bringing him back.
- 21:42No, it's not about bringing him back, but they, but they can
- 21:44spend time with him, right? And I, that's powerful.
- 21:47I mean, really, right. I, I, I have a friend she's a
- 21:52wonderful person. Her name is Shawna and her
- 21:55daughter passed away a few years ago in a tragic car accident.
- 21:59And so even to this day, I know that I, I see little memorials
- 22:02and different things I want to say the daughter's name is Leah,
- 22:05Leah or Leah. And my friend still hurts with
- 22:09the loss of her daughter. Now she has multiple children,
- 22:12but but this one was cut short in life, 18 years old.
- 22:16And so her and her friend were out, you know, they, they didn't
- 22:20cause the accident. They were going, they were going
- 22:22through an intersection and someone ran a red light there
- 22:26and killed him. And so I, I've talked to my son
- 22:31a lot. I've talked to Logan about I, I
- 22:36have to, I can't outlive my own kid.
- 22:39I just, I, you know, I can't do it.
- 22:42It's like, I don't know about you, but it's like, I want, I
- 22:45don't want I don't want I and I've known people who've lost
- 22:47kids through through drug abuse, O DS suicide, different things
- 22:54work. People that I've worked with
- 22:55have lost their kids and it changes you.
- 23:00So I'm, you know, I I, I exactly.
- 23:04I mean, yeah. Is there, you know, there is
- 23:07there a moral question about the the AI or the avatar, I guess?
- 23:12But again, it's the parents that had it created.
- 23:15It wasn't. So yeah, it wasn't.
- 23:16Somebody yeah out to doing it that was looking to cause harm
- 23:21or, you know, fake out the the parents, you know, with a deep
- 23:25fake of it, you know, just stuff like that, I mean.
- 23:28And I and I, and I definitely understand that because I look
- 23:31at it. So for me, we, we talked on a,
- 23:34on a different podcast about celebrity passing passings away
- 23:38and stuff. And I, and I've often said for
- 23:42me to actually cry at a funeral, even with somebody I knew, it's
- 23:47got to be for me a deep connection, like really deep
- 23:50connection. So people I felt like I should
- 23:52have cried over at a funeral, I didn't cry over.
- 23:55But but there have been people in my life that have passed away
- 23:58that I absolutely did, like my foster mom, my foster dad and I,
- 24:02it was so funny. I was in Boise over the weekend
- 24:05visiting my best buddy from high school and I was trying to come
- 24:08back and I came back through Baker City where my foster
- 24:10sister lives, Kathy, who's a spitting image of my foster mom.
- 24:14She is my foster mom. And they, they weren't home, but
- 24:19I was texting back and forth with her, you know, and, and I
- 24:22thought to myself how much I loved, I loved my foster sister.
- 24:28Like, I like if I could spend tons of time with her, I would
- 24:31because #1 she is just like my foster mom.
- 24:34So it's almost, it's almost for me, it's almost like spending
- 24:37time with with my foster mom, even though they're two
- 24:41different people, even though they're wonderfully two
- 24:44different people, There's so much of my foster mom in her.
- 24:47So, So to me, if you asked me if I could create an, if I could
- 24:51create an avatar of my foster parents, no amount of money
- 24:54would would keep me from doing that, right?
- 24:56Then I could just talk to them, right.
- 24:58So I'm kind of on I, I, yeah, I don't under, I mean, AII think
- 25:02AI has good things and I think AI has bad things.
- 25:04But this one I think is a good thing, right?
- 25:06Especially, yeah, when you're hurting no one, you're hurting.
- 25:10And the problem is there's no real regulations over AI.
- 25:13It's just kind of the wild, Wild West at this point.
- 25:15And how do you even police something like that?
- 25:17If somebody did create a deep fake video of your loved one and
- 25:21then send it to you, you, you know, it's just craziness.
- 25:25Like, how is this even going to get controlled and police to
- 25:29like, like, what's going to happen?
- 25:32Like things, things got to be in place at some point in time.
- 25:36Wasn't there a movie called her or different like that different
- 25:38things like that? Where was it?
- 25:40Artificial intelligence? And then I OK, take it to the
- 25:42take it to the next step here. You ready, Michelle?
- 25:45The one that got away. The oneness.
- 25:49You're. Going to create.
- 25:51No, I'm just saying. I'm just saying though, you know
- 25:54if the one that got away or the one that never was.
- 25:58True. You can.
- 25:59You can take photos and take information and create an AI
- 26:03version of this fantasy. So women, we could create our
- 26:08perfect man. You could.
- 26:10Who does the dishes, Garv? Guard in there if you want Sam
- 26:12Hunt. I understand, you know, there's,
- 26:15you know, a little creepy, but it's like, yeah, what what
- 26:20should be the, what should be the limitations on that?
- 26:23Yeah, I mean, do. You think there should be a law?
- 26:24Do you think there should be a law on that?
- 26:26Well, you know, for people that not for like us as the parents,
- 26:31so his parents, it was them who had it created.
- 26:34That's a different than if someone else is creating it and
- 26:37then using it against you or just putting it out there.
- 26:41That's completely two different things.
- 26:43But there is no regulation over that currently either.
- 26:45So something is going to have to be done with this whole AI
- 26:49craziness. But again, it's just a wild,
- 26:51Wild West at this point, so. Well, the Internet one time was
- 26:54wild, Wild West. And they?
- 26:56They clamped down on it and it still is to some extent.
- 27:00You know, I believe, I believe President Trump was talking
- 27:03about something with AI and deep fakes and all that, different
- 27:07things like that. So I'll be curious to see if any
- 27:10legislation ever passes on that. I always look at as long as
- 27:13billionaires are getting rich. If billionaires are getting rich
- 27:16off AI, guess what? There's no, they're not gonna.
- 27:19It's not gonna happen. Yeah.
- 27:21Not gonna happen. Not gonna happen because if it
- 27:23means more money in their pocket, and again, if you can,
- 27:26if you can make a smear video of your political opponent
- 27:29opponent, why would you not? Right.
- 27:31Oh yeah. I mean, I mean.
- 27:32And people will believe. It's made of Obama and Joe
- 27:35Biden. Yeah.
- 27:35What was the one that was just posted where he was getting, you
- 27:38know, knocked out of his chair and then getting deported?
- 27:41Posted that on his social. Yeah.
- 27:43So, yeah, come on. So, but yeah, I, I actually, I
- 27:48and I think, and I think the reasoning why they created the,
- 27:51the Avatar in terms of gun safety, I think, I think that
- 27:55that's a, that's a good mission. I think that's a good good, a
- 27:59good message. Right, right.
- 28:02Yeah, definitely so. It's not like, yeah.
- 28:04I would want, I would want to create my dad like you were
- 28:06talking about your foster mom, like I would want my dad to be
- 28:10singing karaoke again like he used to.
- 28:12So I get it. I think I would create Logan
- 28:15without the sarcasm. We could create perfect.
- 28:19I know he's, I know, I know he's listening to this podcast.
- 28:24So Logan, I would take parts of your mom out.
- 28:27Gosh, I would know. You're gonna get us in so much
- 28:33trouble. He's gonna kill me.
- 28:35I should just invite him and not tell you you.
- 28:38Should That would be awesome. And then he should be awesome.
- 28:41That'd be awesome. He'd be great.
- 28:42He could like hit you with everything.
- 28:44Then he would, he would correct you.
- 28:46Here's all the things he said. They're wrong.
- 28:48So this. Isn't true, You exaggerated no
- 28:52right. Well, think about, just think
- 28:54about how sad it is for the words left unsaid, like like the
- 28:59Parkland, like the Parkland victims.
- 29:01It's like as a parent, you don't know if you're not seeing your
- 29:05child for the very last time. And what if you?
- 29:07And what if you had a fight before they went to school that
- 29:10day? Right.
- 29:11Like they didn't clean, like they didn't clean their room or
- 29:13something. So stupid and petty.
- 29:15Right. And as a parent go off right,
- 29:17That's something we would just instinctively as.
- 29:20A parent get upset. With them about.
- 29:23The guilt would eat you alive if if your kid had gone off to
- 29:27school on that that fateful day. And and yeah, it would be
- 29:31horrific. So I also think it's a good way
- 29:34to heal. I mean, I know this is kind of
- 29:35bizarre, but maybe a good way to heal?
- 29:37Maybe, yeah. So I would, I would, if I love
- 29:42somebody that much, I, I, I would probably do that.
- 29:45Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, I probably would.
- 29:49It would just really depend. I think so, yeah.
- 29:52Well, I mean, and the nice thing, I mean, geez, it's, it's
- 29:55just so yeah, these are going to be the questions that morally
- 29:59we'll have to ask over the next 10 to 1520 years as AI gets
- 30:02better and better and better, right?
- 30:04Yeah, definitely. So but but yeah, I wouldn't.
- 30:07But people that are obsessed or upset or driven, who knows what.
- 30:13What can create our own stalkers?
- 30:15What can create? Yeah.
- 30:17What, what else? Yeah.
- 30:17What would what would? What would they do in those
- 30:19particular situations? Yeah, yeah.
- 30:23All right. Last week, we discussed your
- 30:26bullies in the last week's podcast, and that reminded me of
- 30:31my own child, Shaylee, who's the youngest.
- 30:35So I have a story to tell about her.
- 30:37She's going to be pissed off about this, but she might or she
- 30:41might not care. So when she went to preschool,
- 30:44so she was probably around the age of 3 or 4, she started
- 30:50biting children at preschool. But the preschool teacher, Miss
- 30:54Teresa, who is a St. This woman is a St.
- 30:58We love her to this day. One, she never told me that
- 31:03Shaylee was biting kids. You know how normally if your
- 31:05kid bites someone, the teacher tells you when you pick them up
- 31:08or there's like a little slip in their cubby, like, oh, so and so
- 31:12did this today. No, no, she never once told me.
- 31:16And she would just tell Shaylee. Oh, Shaylee don't bite no
- 31:20anymore. That's basically just how she
- 31:22reprimanded her. Then at the age of 5, when she
- 31:28went on to kindergarten, she was still biting kids, but now she
- 31:33was targeting kids that would not tell on her so that she
- 31:39wouldn't get in trouble. So at the age of four and five,
- 31:43she is specifically thinking about, oh, I'm going to bite
- 31:48this child because I know this child won't tell on me.
- 31:52And I'm thinking, when I was five, I was playing tag and hide
- 31:55and go seek. I was not thinking about, oh,
- 31:57I'm going to bite this kid and they're not going to tell on me.
- 32:01Then around Christmas time, just probably like 8 or 9, we're
- 32:08getting all the Christmas decorations out.
- 32:10There's like Christmas music playing in the background.
- 32:12And all of a sudden she just like stops and she says, do you
- 32:17know the best way to dispose of a dead body?
- 32:22I just like, like I stopped for a second.
- 32:26I think I had like a Christmas toe in my hand.
- 32:29I just kind of froze for a second and I'm thinking, oh,
- 32:32shit, did I buy this kid everything that was on her
- 32:35Christmas list? I'm like, I'm like, Oh my God,
- 32:37why is what is happening? And I said, oh, are you asking
- 32:42because you know or because you need to know?
- 32:45Right, right. Oh gosh.
- 32:48And she was like, then she just like proceeded to tell me, you
- 32:52know, like the best way to dispose of a dead body.
- 32:56And so if I am ever killed, you know, the first person that you
- 33:00need to look at right there. So, and you feel this is like
- 33:034-5, you know, 8 years old that she's doing all these things and
- 33:07saying all these things. And, and we just learned about
- 33:11the biting thing. She just told us about it a few
- 33:13years ago. We had no clue.
- 33:15Like no clue. She got away with her.
- 33:17Yes, because she was targeting kids that wouldn't tell on her
- 33:21like. Wow.
- 33:21Got away with it she's 19 yes yes so I'm thinking the new
- 33:29requirements for sociopath when kids are like little isn't it
- 33:34like one of them like harming animals, which she loves animals
- 33:37and that might have been a clue but.
- 33:40At least a little bit of a, a, you know?
- 33:43Yeah. Yeah, crazy so.
- 33:46And I'm surprised the teacher never the teacher just never
- 33:49brought it up. No, Miss Teresa again, she's a
- 33:51St. and she never said anything to me.
- 33:54And by then she had learned once she went to kindergarten to
- 33:57target the kids that wouldn't tell.
- 33:59So then they wouldn't tell like the the playground teacher or,
- 34:02or the teacher. And she got away with it.
- 34:05And I asked her, I said, well, are you leaving?
- 34:07Were you leaving marks on these kids?
- 34:09And she was like maybe a little bit, but nothing too serious.
- 34:12I'm thinking what, OK, what parent is not noticing that
- 34:17their child is coming home with like, you know, teeth marks or
- 34:21whatever on their arm wherever she was biting them.
- 34:24I don't know. Because as a parent I would
- 34:26freak out and go to the school and be like hey, why is my kid
- 34:29it? Was biting my it was biting my
- 34:30kid. Exactly.
- 34:31But nobody, nobody, nothing, nothing.
- 34:33She got away with it. That's crazy.
- 34:35Well, I I guess it was a phase. I mean, who knows?
- 34:39I don't know, she could still be.
- 34:41Biting might still be biting people you don't know you don't
- 34:44know but. Who knows?
- 34:46That that that's yeah, that's kind of sociopathic behavior.
- 34:51I'll, I'll mark that mark that one down.
- 34:53That's just kind of crazy that you got away with it.
- 34:54That's the fascinating thing about the story is how could
- 34:58she, you know at. Four years old, again, when I
- 35:02was 4I, I was not thinking those things.
- 35:05Like you're not strategizing. I don't know what the correct
- 35:09word would be. I mean, that you're thinking I'm
- 35:13going to specifically target these kids because they're not
- 35:16going to tell on me. I mean she was profiling other
- 35:19kids at that age because she was figuring out which kids wouldn't
- 35:23tell on her, which is crazy at 4 that you would think that or
- 35:28have that ability. Well, I think that I think every
- 35:31child is different and and their motivations are totally
- 35:35different. I would I I had to go to this
- 35:37wedding in Anatone recently and I was talking to Melanie, who's
- 35:41in my book, my book Melanie bots.
- 35:43You know, the, the little girl that I probably experienced lots
- 35:46of firsts with and one of the stories I had forgotten about
- 35:50was Melanie had made me touch an electric fence when we were
- 35:54little kids. And so and her sister Tracy was
- 35:58at this wedding. Melanie, I haven't seen Melanie
- 36:00in 30-40 years, but her sister Tracy.
- 36:03And she goes, hey, she goes, she goes, my sister was so mean to
- 36:07you and so cruel to you. And I said, what do you mean?
- 36:10And she goes, she goes, she may remember when she made you touch
- 36:13the she made you touch the electric fence.
- 36:15And I went, oh, yeah, I do remember that.
- 36:17Well, apparently as, as Tracy says, is Melanie had blackmail
- 36:21on me. I had done something I had done
- 36:24something naughty. And so to get me to touch this
- 36:26electric fence, Melanie, blackmail, blackmail by saying,
- 36:30well, I'll, I'm going to tell Pearl, if you don't, if you if
- 36:33you don't touch this fence, Oh gosh.
- 36:36Because being on the ranch, being on a ranch, you have
- 36:37electric fences. Oh yeah, we back back then all
- 36:40over the all over the place. But you know, and I remember
- 36:43getting shocked, but I I just cannot for the life remember
- 36:45what I was getting blackmailed for.
- 36:47But I. Was that was going to be my
- 36:48question? What was the blackmail I?
- 36:50Really don't know. Even Tracy didn't know.
- 36:53But it's funny how Tracy, who's the older sister, has a
- 36:56different recollection of her sister than I have of of her
- 37:00sister. You have this fond recollection.
- 37:02I have a fond recollection. Well, what's a, what's a good
- 37:06way to describe? I mean, she's like, we were a
- 37:07little. We were little kids.
- 37:10Melanie got, well, I even write about in the book, she got me in
- 37:13a lot of trouble for different things, like my first cigarette,
- 37:15you know, different, different things.
- 37:17So she was. Yeah, she was what?
- 37:19What was the code word? Fast?
- 37:23She was way more. Yeah.
- 37:25She was way more experimental than I probably would have been
- 37:28at that age. And she just drugged me along
- 37:29with her so. Basically she's just a different
- 37:33version of Shaylee basically. Yeah, basically.
- 37:36Well, she'd be, she'd be one of those like, you know, I'll jump,
- 37:39I'll jump off this, this ledge. If you'll jump off this ledge
- 37:42and then you end up jumping off the ledge.
- 37:43And then she doesn't jump off the ledge.
- 37:46She's up there still. You're like, why didn't you
- 37:48jump? She goes, I'm not stupid or, you
- 37:50know, she's kind of like that personality.
- 37:52Yeah. So that's interesting.
- 37:54Still, Shayla, you got away with one better.
- 37:57Mark that up to karma on that one.
- 37:58Yeah, yeah. Do you want to know what she
- 38:00said the best way to dispose of a body was when she was 8?
- 38:04Yeah, let's hear, let's hear, let's hear the plan.
- 38:05Yeah, she goes on to tell me she goes, OK, so you take the body.
- 38:10Remember, she's 8, so she was. You take the body and you take
- 38:14it up into the woods and you bury it, and then you find a
- 38:19dead animal and then you bury, you put some dirt on top of the
- 38:24body, then you put the dead carcass in the hole and then you
- 38:28put some dirt on that. And she goes.
- 38:30Because then when the cadaver dogs hit on it, they're only
- 38:33going to find the dead carcass and not the body.
- 38:37Oh, so clever. And I was like, so Dexter, so
- 38:40Dexter. Good job, Dexter.
- 38:42I mean, that's why our dog is named Dexter, because she loves
- 38:45that show so. Oh yeah, there you go.
- 38:48Yeah, I mean, I had no idea what if what she was telling me was
- 38:52like legit or again, she was 8 and I'm thinking, where is she
- 38:55getting this information? YouTube.
- 38:57It has to be YouTube or Dexter wasn't.
- 38:59I don't think Dexter was out during that time and she
- 39:01wouldn't be watching Dexter, although they did watch like
- 39:03Five Nights at Freddy's Which. Just found.
- 39:06Out what what that was about and I was like.
- 39:08What? Right.
- 39:09Maybe that. Maybe that was it.
- 39:10I, you know, I guess you're going to be happy, Michelle, if
- 39:13Shaylee decides to be a surgeon or something.
- 39:15Well. I mean, that's what we're hoping
- 39:18she is going to see for. So she has talked about going on
- 39:22to be a doctor, but it's a lot. And I don't know if she wants to
- 39:27do that much school and also she doesn't really want to people
- 39:29that much. She doesn't want to deal with
- 39:32the well, the patient's family basically.
- 39:35She can deal with the patient but not the family so.
- 39:38It's kind of like doctor house, right?
- 39:41He had diagnostic diagnosis, everything but, but he don't
- 39:45want to meet the family. Yeah, yeah, she's kind of yeah.
- 39:48She's like the female version of him basically.
- 39:50That might kind of cool it. Yeah.
- 39:51There you go. Yeah, anyway, all right, so.
- 39:55I'm making notes on the the the dead body if I got.
- 39:58To do that one I've also heard because now I pay attention to
- 40:02this stuff when I see it or hear it but I've also seen someone
- 40:04say that if you take. A plant or flower that is, is it
- 40:12endangered? I don't know if that would be
- 40:15the word for plants. And if you plant that on top of
- 40:20the body, so you basically do the same thing, she said.
- 40:23So you take the body, you put some dirt on, you know, you bury
- 40:26it, put some dirt on it, then put the plant on top of it,
- 40:29plant it because then they can't dig up this endangered plant.
- 40:33But I don't know, that's just something I saw on the Internet
- 40:36as well. So I don't know if that's true.
- 40:38I don't know if somebody has tried this.
- 40:41I don't know if this is hypothetical.
- 40:42I have no idea. I I.
- 40:45It's kind of, I mean, I think about like, I've thought about
- 40:49it a lot, but it's like. How you want to dispose of a
- 40:53body? No, like take in the life of
- 40:56somebody. Oh gosh.
- 40:58Like, I, I mean, I know, I, you know, I know I'm not a sociopath
- 41:02because I just, I to, to break somebody's neck or I mean, just
- 41:07think about the, the, the violent act that it takes to do
- 41:10that, right. So it's one of those, I mean,
- 41:13not not that I haven't thought about it, but but I'm like, I, I
- 41:18I in, in, you know, even talking big, I'm like, I even going to
- 41:23war with a gun and take. And I know it's your job and you
- 41:27got to take a life. And I guess that's why they say
- 41:30that eventually you just get callous.
- 41:31You know, you just, you know, you know, you numb yourself out
- 41:35of that particular situation. So yeah, it's like I just
- 41:38couldn't imagine that I. Mean as a he looks.
- 41:41Good on paper, looks great on paper, right?
- 41:44Looks good. Looks good in a mystery novel.
- 41:46Looks good on ATV show. But yeah, but to actually commit
- 41:49the crime, Yeah, I don't know. But as a female and I get past
- 41:55podcast, we've talked about my stalkers, you have to kind of
- 41:59think about oh, OK, if XYZ happened, how would I survive or
- 42:05get out of this or if this happened or this happened.
- 42:09And so in our mind, we kind of have to plan for a worst case
- 42:12scenario because we're. Finals and I couldn't imagine I
- 42:15mean, a woman always has to plan for you just don't know and and
- 42:20what 99% of serial killers are male or men or or men and and so
- 42:25women are such a small percentage of that.
- 42:27So they're they're out there. The women are out there.
- 42:30But it's yeah, it's like, yeah, being a man is completely
- 42:35different than being a woman and, and worried about your
- 42:39surroundings or different things like that.
- 42:41All the time. All right, well, let's
- 42:44transition to something different.
- 42:46So you mentioned that Snap is going to regulate what you can
- 42:53and can't buy is that? Right.
- 42:55Yeah. So, so for the longest time, of
- 42:57course, SNAP being food stamps or the supplemental, you know,
- 43:01nutrition of that it is, it used to be that pretty much not
- 43:07anything that was food related you could buy in the store and
- 43:09that that was going to that you could, you know, so you could
- 43:12buy candy, you could buy soda pop, you could buy chips and
- 43:14different things like that. Well, now a lot of states,
- 43:17especially your red states have now all teamed up and they're
- 43:21starting to say, well, no, you can't buy chips or you can't buy
- 43:24soda pop or one of the big things that I saw that was added
- 43:27was energy drinks. So your Red Bulls and stuff,
- 43:30that's got to be, well, that's got to be expensive.
- 43:32I can't, I'm not addicted to energy drinks.
- 43:34I just, but I hear that they're probably, they're outrageously
- 43:36expensive, right? Yes, yeah, Shaylee drinks them,
- 43:39so I know go to Costco and buy, buy it in the case for her.
- 43:43So, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 43:44So you've got, yeah. So you've got to basically, you
- 43:48know that I mean, I guess that kind of stuff is is expensive.
- 43:51It is expensive, but these states are these states are
- 43:54jumping on now and I'm curious what, you know, on one hand, I'm
- 43:58like, OK, they're trying to control obesity and all that.
- 44:01I was trying to think of what states, West Virginia, Florida,
- 44:05Colorado, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas.
- 44:08I've already asked. They've already put new waivers
- 44:10in to limit the food and so that they're in there, but then
- 44:15they're. In our state, King, you can't
- 44:16buy pop, right? I think.
- 44:19Yeah, you can, I thought. That was, oh, I thought you
- 44:20couldn't in our state. With it Nope, you can so
- 44:24interesting if I laugh at Utah restricts purchase of soft
- 44:27drinks really so is that is is that and I'm not going to try to
- 44:33be judge. I'm not going to try to be
- 44:34judgmental on this. But hello Mormons.
- 44:37Hello, have you not watched the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives
- 44:40show? They're not that that makes me
- 44:43laugh that they're big thing is, you can't have caffeine.
- 44:45You need to watch that show because all they do is drink
- 44:48pop. They are allowed to drink pop
- 44:49now instead of coffee. So instead of like coffee
- 44:51stands, they have these places called Swig and it's you just
- 44:55get your pop with different flavorings in it.
- 44:58So. So your only restrictions while
- 45:00Utah is only soft drinks, West Virginia soft drinks, Texas is
- 45:04drinks, sweetened drinks and candy, Oklahoma soft drinks and
- 45:08candy, Nebraska soda and energy drinks really is interesting
- 45:12enough. It really is really against
- 45:15drinking soda pop, basically. Right, which is?
- 45:18And you know, and you know me and you know me.
- 45:19I love my soda. Pop.
- 45:20I love my soda pop. You know, I'm an advert, you
- 45:23know, but I, but I, so on one hand, I'm like, OK, now it's
- 45:27funny. As much as I love soda pop, I
- 45:30don't recall having a lot of soda pop as a kid.
- 45:34No, me either. I just don't, I don't and even
- 45:37and even being poor like we were and my, I mean my foster, I
- 45:41lived in a restaurant. Right.
- 45:43So you had I had pop every day. Oh yeah.
- 45:46Every single day. And I don't recall, I don't
- 45:48recall my mom and dad giving me soda pop if I had soda, if I had
- 45:52pop, it was on a special occasion.
- 45:54And I and I write and I write about it in the book to where if
- 45:58my mom went to town, my dad and I would throw a little party and
- 46:01he'd give me a bag of M&M's and, and crack up a soda pop, but
- 46:04that was it. But I didn't have it.
- 46:06I don't recall having it for dinner.
- 46:08Like it wasn't. Drink it every day.
- 46:10No, no. And so, and then maybe with the
- 46:13Wallaces, I might have had access to soda pop, I guess a
- 46:16little bit more. They were on food stamps that,
- 46:18you know, they were, they were on food stamps.
- 46:20So maybe that maybe that's when I had a little bit more that the
- 46:23the soda. But it's one of those things.
- 46:26On one hand I'm like, hey, that's a good idea.
- 46:28But on the flip side, I'm like, is this people trying to control
- 46:31people again? Right.
- 46:33Yeah, I mean, that's kind of like growing up, we didn't
- 46:36really have pop. My brother did drink chocolate
- 46:38milk when he was little. He still had a bottle like, you
- 46:41know, 2-3 years old with chocolate milk in it.
- 46:45And then and then for our kids again, when we would go out to a
- 46:49restaurant, they as a treat they could get pop, but it was only
- 46:53white pop because they didn't know the difference.
- 46:57They because like Sprite and 7UP don't have caffeine and so, you
- 47:02know, Pepsi, Coke have caffeine. So that's why they were allowed
- 47:05to white pop. And for the longest time they
- 47:06didn't know, you know, and they were fine with getting that.
- 47:10And then if we had a party, if we had leftover pop, they were
- 47:15allowed to drink that. But then once it was gone, I you
- 47:18know, it wasn't in the house. It wasn't in the house all the
- 47:21time, so. Right, got it.
- 47:23So you didn't go buy a 24 cube of Pepsi or whatever and that
- 47:26that was readily available to your kids?
- 47:28No. And then energy drinks, as you
- 47:30know, they got older, Benjamin, Benjamin and Shaylee, which I
- 47:34would limit them and tell them because they could go down to
- 47:37the coffee stand on their way to high school and buy 1 and I
- 47:40wouldn't know. And I told them, look, if you're
- 47:43going to drink these, you're only allowed one a day.
- 47:46Like that's all you get. You can, I'm sure you're going
- 47:49to go buy one and not going to know about it, but just one a
- 47:52day, That's all I ask. And for the most part, they
- 47:54mostly listened. Shaylee's one friend, she drank
- 47:586 in one day and I was like no, no, you are not doing that I
- 48:03don't think so and she. Was like, her heart was like.
- 48:05Freaking out. Is it a status symbol though?
- 48:09I don't to drink the. Energy it is.
- 48:11I think it's, I think it's the same thing as when a kid gets to
- 48:14walk into class with a Starbucks, probably, you know,
- 48:17and and then they walk in with a Red Bull.
- 48:20Probably I yeah, I think, I think.
- 48:22People look at that as more of a, you know, a monster, a Red
- 48:26Bull, right, pick on Red Bull, right.
- 48:28So, so yeah, it's interesting. The states are are starting to
- 48:31do this. Not, not Washington.
- 48:33I was surprised by Colorado, which is a pretty liberal state
- 48:36for the most part, but they're gonna do, I believe they're
- 48:38gonna do soda pop. So the big defenders of people
- 48:42that this the the people that the snap people are saying,
- 48:46well, what about a birthday party, like where you go to
- 48:49Albertson's and buy a cake? You know, can you because,
- 48:53because right. So they're like, they're these
- 48:56are we're talking about, these are poor people.
- 48:58So you're going to keep, you're going to keep a little Susie
- 49:00from having a birthday cake. Now they can buy now they can
- 49:05buy the ingredients for a cake. At least that's that's people's
- 49:08rebuttal. Hey, well, they can buy
- 49:09ingredients and make a cake. So but I do you think that
- 49:14that's kind of like, do you think that's kind of still
- 49:17trying to control people? Like, like that's rich, rich
- 49:20people basically telling poor people what they can't have.
- 49:23Right, yes, which I understand, you know, again, people that are
- 49:28on snap, you know they have to make the most out of their money
- 49:32and so a lot of times they're buying like Top ramen, you know,
- 49:35things that are the cheapest that are going to last them the
- 49:38longest to feed their. Not the healthiest.
- 49:40And it's not, and it's not, yeah, it's not because they're
- 49:42deliberately trying to be unhealthy.
- 49:43Have you tried to buy healthy food?
- 49:45Yes, it's expensive. They and.
- 49:47It's outrageous. It's outrageous.
- 49:48Yeah, they only have a certain amount of money for the month to
- 49:51feed their entire family. So you really have to be mindful
- 49:55of what you're buying, the quantity, what's going to last,
- 49:58what isn't, you know, what's not going to spoil all that kind of
- 50:01stuff. So I, I think that it is
- 50:04controlling. I am against them.
- 50:07I understand the obesity and all that in America, but that could
- 50:12be fixed by, you know, this fructose corn syrup, all the
- 50:17dyes. If you look at the things that
- 50:19are produced in Europe, like take Quaker Oats, like they're
- 50:23brown sugar, little instant packets.
- 50:26Take the one that is produced in Europe and the one that is
- 50:28produced in the USA, The one in Europe is has so much healthy
- 50:34ingredients compared to the one in America, which they could
- 50:37make that for America. Like there isn't any reason that
- 50:41they can't if they're doing it. So on that hand, I feel like
- 50:45that's where the government is really going to have to step in
- 50:48and start making our food, making the producers of our
- 50:53food, make it healthier. And then in turn, hopefully we
- 50:57as people, we'll make choices. I mean, once we get addicted to
- 51:01sugar of any kind, then you know, it's my.
- 51:04It's my favorite thing. Right, it's almost worse than
- 51:06drugs to some. Extent thing, right?
- 51:09Yeah, I don't. So I don't drink, I don't party,
- 51:11but I sure like a good Ding. Dong, of course.
- 51:14Right, I do. Mountain Dew.
- 51:16Yeah, yeah. And so, so and so and but it.
- 51:19But I do think it's interesting that that people have taken up
- 51:23taken it upon themselves to be judge, judge and jury about what
- 51:27someone buys, you know, and it's and it's amazing where the where
- 51:32the privilege to have no concept.
- 51:36So, so when I was with the Wallaces, when they had all of
- 51:39us, we ate a lot of. Pasta because it's cheap.
- 51:42Like it's noodles and spaghetti. It's cheap.
- 51:45It's cheap. Exactly.
- 51:47It's cheap and that's and that's it, plain and simple.
- 51:49And, you know, so the the stuff with the most starch is the
- 51:52cheapest stuff. Yeah, so it's like and, and and
- 51:57I guess according to, you know, the advocates against it, of
- 52:00course, there's no study that says someone on SNAP is obese,
- 52:06if that makes sense, or only buying junk.
- 52:09Food. Buying that's all they're
- 52:11bought, right? But we do understand that they
- 52:13have to buy because they have big families or bigger families
- 52:15have to buy in quantities. So I just thought it was
- 52:17interesting that a lot of states are adapting this and, and I,
- 52:20you know, I, I, it's, I think it's just fascinating that I,
- 52:24is, it is it, is it really a great, I, you know, a good thing
- 52:28for the people or is it people controlling people?
- 52:31I it to me, it's people controlling people.
- 52:35Yes, you're going to have some people on SNAP that that's what
- 52:39they will buy pop and junk food. But for the most part, it's most
- 52:44of the people on it are good, distant people that are just
- 52:47trying to stretch that money for as far as they can.
- 52:52And it reminds me around this time of year, people always
- 52:57post, you know how they have like free school supplies drives
- 53:01where you like come and get the backpack full of them and people
- 53:05will post. Well, if you're driving a
- 53:07Cadillac, I don't want to see you coming to get this.
- 53:10And I had parents that were not financially responsible with
- 53:15their money. And so you we're going to make
- 53:19that child suffer and not give them that backpack when the
- 53:24parent isn't buying it. Like how is that that child's
- 53:27fault that that parent is not response with their money?
- 53:30That's really. Again, again.
- 53:32It's Yeah, I'm with you. It's the same thing as as school
- 53:34lunches. School lunches should be free.
- 53:35Just period. Oh.
- 53:36Gosh. Yes, we we can spend a whole
- 53:38podcast in the but but exactly. So if you've got, yeah, so if
- 53:42you've got, you know, a parent that, you know, values of their
- 53:46vehicle, their Cadillac and which is true, which is true,
- 53:51their kid goes, their kid goes without because they're going to
- 53:53make sure they're yeah, we've I've seen people without,
- 53:58without a JOB with the whitest sneakers I've ever seen.
- 54:01And I'm like, how the F are their sneakers so white?
- 54:04You know, I'm like, what? It's like, how is that humanly
- 54:06possible? So it's all, it's all about
- 54:09priorities. And you can't, you can't
- 54:11penalize children for that for, for parents, poor choices.
- 54:16I know that for, for Pokey and I, we were on, I remember we
- 54:20were on food stamps for maybe a year and a half and that was it.
- 54:27And, and I remember Pokey had to go and I was working at the
- 54:29radio station and I was working at the skating rink.
- 54:32And I remember that Pokey had to go in just for the verification
- 54:35and they took my pay stubs and the, and that the caseworker was
- 54:39like, OK, she goes, I don't understand.
- 54:41She goes, you're at the time I was her boyfriend.
- 54:44I don't think I we were not married, but she goes your
- 54:46boyfriend, she goes works 80 hours a week.
- 54:51Dan. Between the two jobs at $5.00 an
- 54:55hour and she goes and you still qualify for food stamps, she
- 54:58goes. That's a broken system.
- 55:00Oh yeah, and it still is. Yeah, but the minute so.
- 55:04So we were on it for about a year and a half when Logan was a
- 55:06toddler, you know, because we we needed it.
- 55:08I was working, I was working two-part time jobs and they
- 55:11weren't full time and there was no Benny's or anything like
- 55:13that. And so, and 5 bucks an hour,
- 55:15that was it. It was horrific.
- 55:17And so, but the minute I got a full time job, we were, you
- 55:22know, we didn't, we didn't do food stamps, but, but the, the
- 55:26program is there for people who need it.
- 55:29So I'm a big advocate of using programs, you know, now I also,
- 55:34but you also know how I feel. If you're an able bodied male
- 55:38who can work right, my sympathy. My sympathy is a lot less.
- 55:44You know why? Why are you getting Benny's when
- 55:47you're perfectly capable of of fending for yourself, if that
- 55:50makes sense? Right, which you're always going
- 55:52to have the people that, you know, try to cheat the system or
- 55:56do things wrong. But that doesn't mean we take it
- 55:58away from everyone. Like that seems to be the
- 56:01mindset nowadays is like, oh, we don't it's getting abused or,
- 56:05you know, Medicaid's this or money, you know, we got to take
- 56:07away from everyone. I don't understand that
- 56:10mentality. So I know that when I was
- 56:1318/19/20 years old, I thought like that.
- 56:17So I, I look back, I'm a complete opposite, 100% opposite
- 56:23of, of how I used to believe. I, you know, I used to be one of
- 56:26those people that, that I, that I drank that kool-aid to where
- 56:31it's like pull yourself up by your bootstraps, pull yourself
- 56:33up by your bootstraps. You know, but it's interesting,
- 56:37even coming from behind pure poverty like I did, I'm only
- 56:42middle class and, and, and you've known me a long time.
- 56:46I don't, I mean, I'm that it's not that you my horn, but a lot
- 56:49of people don't work as hard as I do.
- 56:50Oh. No, that's true.
- 56:52That's a true story, right? So so by going by the by just
- 56:56how hard I work I should be a multi millionaire just by.
- 57:01By what we're told in America, yeah.
- 57:04Right, right. And, and we can even say and and
- 57:06I and, and to, to, to clarify if there's any award in my company
- 57:11award, you know, I've got them all point of the year, point of
- 57:15the month, they're stacked. No, they're stacked, right.
- 57:18But guess what? That's guess what it is an
- 57:20equate into. The dollars.
- 57:23The money, the money exactly. Now, am I valuable?
- 57:26Sure, I guess to the company to some extent.
- 57:28But the hilarity is it's like it, didn't it?
- 57:30I'm not getting rich. I'm not rich.
- 57:32No. But but if but if, but if hard
- 57:35work was based on monetary, both you and I should be the richest
- 57:38people on the planet. But it's not it's not based on
- 57:43that. And then it's also not just
- 57:45based on, you know, again, it's like somebody that that flips
- 57:49burgers at jack-in-the-box to me has just as much importance as
- 57:53some stupid CEO making 20 million a year.
- 57:55Yes, in my book. Definitely I.
- 57:57Agree. They just, they just do and so,
- 58:00and if you're not gonna and if you're not gonna pay them enough
- 58:02to survive, then they should be able to get some Benny's.
- 58:05So, so my viewpoint has changed a lot on those those different
- 58:09things. I, I hate, hate when people go
- 58:12work harder. That's the dumbest shit I've
- 58:15ever heard in my entire life. Work harder.
- 58:17What are you talking about? Work harder.
- 58:20You know, I, I just, you know, and then and I, and I love it
- 58:23because there was a great meme a couple days ago on Facebook
- 58:26where it showed a upper middle class, you know, house and then
- 58:30it showed an apartment and said, don't tell me that the, that you
- 58:34got the same start, you know, and that's, and that's what, and
- 58:38that's what people who want to keep other people down think.
- 58:42It's like, it's like whatever, you know, you got something that
- 58:45I didn't get. So I, so I, I resent you, right?
- 58:49You're getting, you're getting a couple 100 bucks extra in food
- 58:53stamps or you're getting food stamps.
- 58:55Well, I don't get that right. I don't get that right.
- 58:58Well, OK, but where did you grow up?
- 59:01Well, I grew up in West Seattle and my parents made 300 four,
- 59:04$100,000 a year and they paid for my college, all these
- 59:07different things. So you're.
- 59:08Gonna get all this money and this right real.
- 59:11Estate, but you're gonna go kick somebody getting 200 bucks extra
- 59:13at for food stamps a month because you that's ridiculous
- 59:17Yep. So it also.
- 59:19So that's my big right, Yeah. Go ahead.
- 59:21And it also bothers me, you know, you were talking about how
- 59:26you once had to be on food stamps.
- 59:28It really bothers me people that have used the system at one
- 59:33point in time, mainly back when they were younger and falling on
- 59:36hard times. And again, that's what it is
- 59:39there for. But then once they become on
- 59:43their doing well, making money, they're not on the system
- 59:47anymore. Well, now they don't want people
- 59:51to use that system. They don't want them to go
- 59:53towards that system. And it's like, how is that fair?
- 59:56Like you used it when you needed it, but now that you're rich and
- 1:00:00you don't want your money or middle class or whatever it is,
- 1:00:03and now you don't want your taxes to go to that, how is that
- 1:00:06fair? Like it's just hypocritical to
- 1:00:08me. I hate it so much.
- 1:00:11Absolutely. Well, that's, that's what that's
- 1:00:13what we're dealing with right now, you know, and we're we're
- 1:00:16dealing with that When when housing, when people bought
- 1:00:19their houses, when they bought their house for $75,000, yes,
- 1:00:22you know, and they're boomers. They're boomers and they turn
- 1:00:25around and look at Matthew or Benjamin or Logan and go, what
- 1:00:30do you mean you can't afford a $450,000 home?
- 1:00:33Right. Yeah, I did it.
- 1:00:34I did it. Yeah.
- 1:00:35I was working for the state, I was working for the state, and I
- 1:00:38got a pension. Well, trust me, at least work in
- 1:00:42a radio. Guess what?
- 1:00:43You're getting Jack shit. Yeah.
- 1:00:44There's no pension. Anymore no pension and there's
- 1:00:47no yeah, there's no. Well then, but that's how they
- 1:00:49will then you should, you should go.
- 1:00:51Why aren't you working for the state?
- 1:00:53You know, why aren't you working for the government?
- 1:00:55It's like, wow, they mean just the the, the way of thinking.
- 1:00:59You need you need burger flippers just as much as you
- 1:01:03need CEOs. Actually, you probably need more
- 1:01:05burger flippers than you need CEOs in this planet.
- 1:01:08Sorry Planet, Simple. Yes, which it it boggles my mind
- 1:01:12that in America we have as the workers all the worker bees in
- 1:01:17America, we have this power taken away from us by all these
- 1:01:22billionaires and millionaires, when in reality we all hold the
- 1:01:25power. Like if they didn't have us,
- 1:01:28they wouldn't be millionaires and gazillionaires if we weren't
- 1:01:31of course getting everything done for them.
- 1:01:33We all just did a general strike for a day or two, two days,
- 1:01:37however many days like it would, They would lose money, they
- 1:01:40would lose money from. But they're afraid.
- 1:01:43But the worker bees are afraid, because what little they have
- 1:01:49they. Can't work a day or two days,
- 1:01:51right? Right, right.
- 1:01:52But what little they have is what they've got and they and
- 1:01:54they're and they're terrified of losing that.
- 1:01:56And I under I do understand why they why you think like that,
- 1:02:00but it's like, and that's you know, but that, that that's, as
- 1:02:04my says, as Logan has told me, we didn't get we sadly didn't
- 1:02:08get to where we get today without violence.
- 1:02:10And that's a sad situation where with labor unions back in the
- 1:02:13day, people gave up their lives for labor unions.
- 1:02:16And you know, Henry Ford didn't just wake up 1 morning and was
- 1:02:19benevolent. Oh no, he his.
- 1:02:22Workers forced him into it. The workers forced him into it.
- 1:02:26Like you want, you want these shittin model Tasmania out the
- 1:02:29door. You're going to, you're going to
- 1:02:31take care and, and we kind of need to hopefully in the future,
- 1:02:34we'll see that, you know, swing the pendulum, swing back that
- 1:02:37way. Which it is his fault that we
- 1:02:39have a five day work week. It's it's all his fault.
- 1:02:44Because that was the compromise, basically, right?
- 1:02:46That was kind of the compromise, yeah.
- 1:02:47He was working his people to death and that was the five day
- 1:02:51work week was the compromise. So yeah.
- 1:02:53Was the was the compromise? But but even when it goes back
- 1:02:56to the snap situation, it's like you know, is taking soda pop
- 1:03:00away from, you know, people going to going to change
- 1:03:03obesity. They're saying they're saying it
- 1:03:05won't. They're not saying, you know.
- 1:03:06No, it's not. They're going to treat.
- 1:03:08They're going to treat pop like they treat cigarettes.
- 1:03:12I mean, that's basically what is happening.
- 1:03:15And energy drinks are going to be on the list too, so.
- 1:03:18And I, and I and I do under, I mean, I do understand limiting
- 1:03:21that. I, I think a better way to do it
- 1:03:24would be to, you know, like I like what you said earlier about
- 1:03:27the Red Bull and your kids, Hey, 1 energy drink per day, right?
- 1:03:31So maybe there's a limit like you can buy a six pack a week or
- 1:03:35something, right? Whatever that limits going to
- 1:03:38be. I just think just barring it, I
- 1:03:40don't know if that I mean, but some would say beggars can't be
- 1:03:42choosers. You're right, beggars can't be
- 1:03:43choosers. I get it.
- 1:03:44But but I I think sometimes that, you know, like you said,
- 1:03:49we attack the whole and not the individual.
- 1:03:53Right, which is usually what it's like.
- 1:03:54It's like, yeah, everything. Yeah, it's like, because like
- 1:03:57welfare fraud, they've, they've already proven that that welfare
- 1:04:01fraud is 1/2 of 1%. Oh yeah.
- 1:04:04I mean, it's ridiculous, but but that's it.
- 1:04:07But that's a, like you said, for some people, that's the the flag
- 1:04:10they wave. Somebody's getting something
- 1:04:13that I'm not. Yep.
- 1:04:15Even though I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth, I'm
- 1:04:17going to make damn sure that person doesn't get, you know,
- 1:04:20anything. Yep, and they're cheating the
- 1:04:22system. What are they doing that using
- 1:04:24my taxes? At all what?
- 1:04:28Gets me is how most of the people think that it's, you
- 1:04:32know, not white people that are the majority on welfare or SNAP.
- 1:04:36It is. They are the highest percentage
- 1:04:40of people that use it and they're on it.
- 1:04:42It's like. Yes, yes, yes.
- 1:04:45What's my mind like? How do you not know this like?
- 1:04:48White and and the hilarity is white unworking males.
- 1:04:54I mean, it's just white. I mean, I know it's just white
- 1:04:56people in general that are the majority.
- 1:04:58That blows me away. That blows me away.
- 1:05:00But yes, the majority, the majority of is.
- 1:05:03Yeah, yeah, crazy. Well, on that happy note, we
- 1:05:06should probably wrap things up since we.
- 1:05:08Are was that a happy note? No, I'm being completely
- 1:05:11sarcastic. Yeah, I was going to say.
- 1:05:15All right, Well, there's a good downer to leave your day, guys.
- 1:05:18Thanks for listening. That was my Logan sarcasm for
- 1:05:22you. Yeah, yes, again.
- 1:05:25Remember, we have a Facebook and Instagram page.
- 1:05:27There's I'm trying to throw things on there.
- 1:05:30I'll do better at posting stuff so you can like and follow us
- 1:05:33there. And thank you so much for
- 1:05:36sticking around and listening to Rick and that Michelle chick.
