- 1:51Ladies and gentlemen, today's guest, Christy Stutzman is a small business owner, music composer.
- 1:57She's a former teacher and a former state legislator in Indiana.
- 2:02Now she's written for multiple news organizations, including The Washington Times.
- 2:06Yes, the daily signal.
- 2:09And she's a featured opinion writer for The Washington Stand, a great website.
- 2:13I quoted all the time.
- 2:14I cite them.
- 2:15That's by the Family Research Council.
- 2:18She is also wife of a member of Congress, Congress.
- 2:22And she traveled widely on diplomatic delegations.
- 2:25She's been a strong advocate for conservative pro family causes on Capitol Hill.
- 2:31That's one of the reasons we wanted to have her on.
- 2:33And she's got a great brand new book out, which I want to tell you about is the title
- 2:38Got Me, friends.
- 2:39And you know why it's called the spiritual price of political silence.
- 2:46So Christy, welcome to the podcast.
- 2:48Thank you so much for coming on today.
- 2:51Thank you so much for having me.
- 2:52So did I pronounce your last name right?
- 2:54Is it Stutzman or Stutzman?
- 2:56We just say Stutzman, but probably back in Switzerland, it was different.
- 3:00Oh, yeah, I'm sure they pronounced it differently.
- 3:02So before we get into the book and I can't wait, tell us about you and your husband in politics
- 3:07there in Indiana.
- 3:08By the way, friends, I went over to the her Twitter page, her husband, Marlon was endorsed
- 3:15by Jim Jordan, Rand Paul on my goodness.
- 3:18So tell us a little bit about both of your political careers.
- 3:22Well, you know, we never planned on being in politics.
- 3:25And I think that's what the irony is.
- 3:28So I was a teacher and a music composer.
- 3:31I'd been in fine arts all of my life.
- 3:33And my husband was a businessman and agriculture business.
- 3:38And so we were just a young couple.
- 3:41We got married in 2000, started a family in 2001.
- 3:45He had multiple, had two businesses at the time.
- 3:47And I had started a business as well, a resource for fine arts teachers online.
- 3:51And we were just, we had big hopes and plans and dreams for our future.
- 3:56And when 9-11 hit, we were holding a three week old in our arms, thinking what's going
- 4:01to happen and what is his life going to be like.
- 4:03And so what happened was we decided to start getting more involved in our community.
- 4:09We really felt convicted that we weren't really being active like we should have been.
- 4:15So we took our little bundle of joy to meetings, whether it was a commissioners meeting or
- 4:21the local GOP counties meeting or whatever it was, just to see who was in charge in our
- 4:27community and just to make sure that our community wasn't good-hands to something terrible
- 4:30happen.
- 4:32And we wanted to help those who were involved.
- 4:35And one thing leads to another, and when you show up, God shows up, and he opens doors.
- 4:39And my husband was approached about running for state representative at the time.
- 4:43He was 26 years old.
- 4:45And we had a 10 year incumbent who was very well liked, but he was of the opposing party.
- 4:50And so we decided to at least make a run for it and gave it our best shot.
- 4:54We didn't think we would win.
- 4:56And in that first election, he won by 249 votes.
- 5:00So you can't tell me that every vote doesn't count.
- 5:02It really does count, especially on those local level elections and positions.
- 5:07So he served in the state house for eight years.
- 5:11And then he went on to serve in Congress as well for six years and is going to be serving
- 5:16again.
- 5:18And then during his hiatus, he had about probably seven or eight years where he wasn't in
- 5:23elected office.
- 5:24Again, went back to building our businesses.
- 5:27I did the same.
- 5:28I have a theater now and we're producing uplifting wholesome values based entertainment
- 5:33on a Broadway skill level.
- 5:35And so we poured ourselves into that.
- 5:38But I also felt led to run for state representative during that time and served for one term right
- 5:43before COVID hits.
- 5:45And when COVID hit, I had to step down and make sure that our businesses and our employees
- 5:50had a place to go and that they were the doors stayed open.
- 5:54And so I've been doing that ever since.
- 5:55But that's kind of our story.
- 5:57And I really like to share it because it's just an example.
- 6:01It's a very American example of the fact that you don't have to come from a big name
- 6:08family.
- 6:09We're not like Europe where you have to have a Duke or a Lord in front of your name in
- 6:13order to serve in the house of whatever.
- 6:15It is really we the people and we can do it, anyone can do it.
- 6:21And we need more responsible Christian citizens to do the tough thing.
- 6:27Get off the bench and into the game.
- 6:29Run for office, local school boards, local positions, right?
- 6:33I do want to thank you.
- 6:34I was reading a little bit about your bio and you authored some legislation including pro
- 6:39life bills and those protecting women's sports and legislation to protect veterans, monuments
- 6:46and memorials.
- 6:48Before we get into your book, just having to have legislation now to protect veterans
- 6:56memorials from being torn down or a vandalized or whatever or to protect women, young girls
- 7:03and women in sports, something that our great grandparents and our founders took for granted
- 7:08because they didn't see the moral relativism of America coming in their day.
- 7:12Just your thoughts on that on the different battles that you had to face when you were
- 7:17a representative there that maybe generations before, we didn't have to deal with.
- 7:24You know, as I did research and question that myself, where did this come from and how
- 7:28did we get to this craziness and why am I having to author legislation about this?
- 7:33I realized that about a hundred years ago, America was targeted by cultural Marxist.
- 7:39They were in academia.
- 7:41They were in universities, higher learning education and they had tried their utopian ideas
- 7:49of socialism and Marxism in other countries and had realized, and I read this in Antonio
- 7:56Gramsys writing as he was writing from jail, that the next unsuspecting civilization that
- 8:03we tried on, we need to make sure that we target the children, we target education system
- 8:09and they did, they came here and they targeted it.
- 8:11I think what was combined with that was that the church had a split, had a big difference
- 8:19in how they viewed their role in government around the same time.
- 8:23And so there was definitely a crisis point where we didn't, we weren't prepared for what
- 8:29they were bringing to our shores and we were also actually kind of asleep at the wheel
- 8:35when it came to how we're going to approach this.
- 8:39And so you have one part of the church saying, well, politics is ugly, it's not really
- 8:44Christian to be involved.
- 8:46So let's just let the government take care of that and essentially they started handing
- 8:49over the natural responsibilities of the church and communities of faith to the government.
- 8:56And they were relegating what they had been doing for a century before.
- 9:01The other side of the church didn't want anything to do with it.
- 9:05So it was definitely a divide and I think what we realized during that time was as the
- 9:11theory of evolution, as humanism, as Marxism, as atheism came into being in our culture,
- 9:18we found ourselves having to fight these battles and we're actually in a spiritual battle.
- 9:24That's what we're in.
- 9:25It's a clashing of worldviews and I love the title of your show as well.
- 9:29I mean, it matters.
- 9:31And that's what we're fighting right now is a clashing of worldviews and I think we
- 9:35have to be bolder.
- 9:36I think we have to be more armed with facts and information and we have to be secure in
- 9:42what we believe and why we believe it, the essentials, the non what's the word I'm looking
- 9:49for, non debatable, I guess is the word where you're not going to compromise on these things.
- 9:55That's what we need to know and be assured of and then take that into the public arena.
- 10:00Yeah, non-negotiables, what we've seen, I know we want to get to your book, the spiritual
- 10:06price of political silence, but before we do, Christy, give us some insight.
- 10:12A lot of us are sick and tired of Christians, conservatives, Republicans, independents,
- 10:19once they get into office, compromising.
- 10:23I know maybe they have the right intentions, maybe they have good intentions.
- 10:27Well, let's reach across the aisle, work with the left with the left, the Democrats,
- 10:31the demonic Democrat party has taken ground continually and we'll keep giving it to
- 10:37them.
- 10:38We don't give them everything they want, but they're so good at incrementalism, right?
- 10:42They'll take the ground and we compromise and we are sick and tired of that.
- 10:45Just what can you tell us about that to give us some insight or some hope that we can
- 10:50stop this kind of thing?
- 10:53I heard it well described recently by Will Whitt.
- 10:56He was speaking to an event near our house and we were there and he said, you know, it
- 11:01seems like the right, the more conservatives tend to want to be eager to compromise, but
- 11:09if you were to see evil walk in the door, would your first inclination be, let me compromise
- 11:15with that?
- 11:16Yes.
- 11:17If you are facing evil, there is no compromise.
- 11:20You have to stand strong and I think the tendency in Washington D is see, especially, but
- 11:24I've seen this on the state level too, where you get comfortable with being in a position
- 11:33that has a title and you become so identified with that title that you cling to it as if
- 11:39it is part of who you are.
- 11:41One of the best pieces of advice that my husband was given when he was first elected at the
- 11:45age of 26 was just remember this title belongs to the people and someone held this title
- 11:54before you did and someone will hold the title after you do and what you are is a steward
- 12:01of the people's title for a certain amount of time.
- 12:04Don't allow it to become a part of who you are of your person.
- 12:09That's not who God made you to be.
- 12:11You are serving in a position of leadership for a temporary time.
- 12:15What happens when people start identifying with their title as if it is part of who they
- 12:20are and they don't know who they would be if they were not in the elected office, the problem
- 12:25is they become right for compromise.
- 12:27They can be approached by leadership and leadership can say, well, if you don't vote this way, we
- 12:33are going to come after you, we are going to primary you, we are going to take you out and
- 12:39then the person starts being willing to compromise.
- 12:44The other piece of advice we got was put out where you stand on issues from the beginning.
- 12:52I will not compromise on my stand for life.
- 12:55I will not compromise on my stand for free speech and religious expression.
- 12:59I will not compromise on all these things and make it clear so that if a lobbyist wants
- 13:05to try to approach you about any of those subjects, they know it's a lost cause from the
- 13:09beginning.
- 13:10There's no point in talking to you about that.
- 13:13Awesome.
- 13:14I think that's what people have to do and then they will be held accountable by the people
- 13:17that voted them into their position.
- 13:19I think a lot of people, they want to get reelected and they get in office and they want to
- 13:23defy certain battles before they got elected and then they realize, well, I want to be reelected
- 13:28so I don't want to stir the pot so to speak, but anyway, we've got to take a brief pause.
- 13:33I want to give the website friends, it's books by Christy.org, books by Christy.org.
- 13:39You can also find the political, I'm sorry, the spiritual price of political science silence
- 13:45on Amazon as well.
- 13:47And it's been endorsed by Rachel Campos Duffy, Senator Rand Paul, Melissa Odin, David
- 13:53Barton, and many others.
- 13:54We'll be right back on World View Matters.

- 14:31website, of course, worldviewmatters.tv.
- 14:33So Christy Stutzman is our guest today, author and writer.
- 14:38You can check her out at the Washington Stand.
- 14:41And now let's dive into the book, Christy, the spiritual price of political silence.
- 14:47Interesting.
- 14:4810 years ago, I wrote a book called The Cost of Our Silence.
- 14:52And the subtitle, what was it?
- 14:56The consequences of Christians taking the path of least resistance.
- 15:02So tell us about, you mentioned, I think, before we got on the podcast that you were doing
- 15:08speeches on, you were talking about these issues, you had PowerPoints on them, you were
- 15:12stirring up a lot of people, maybe people who get encouraged and then people who find
- 15:15it said, why don't you write a book, tell us about how this was birthed.
- 15:20So it was really something that was a God thing and I wasn't looking to write a book,
- 15:25but I was speaking about this issue at multiple events and was approached by people for my PowerPoint.
- 15:33They wanted the information that I had there.
- 15:35So I just went to put together a pamphlet and make it look nice.
- 15:40And the publisher approached me about writing the book.
- 15:43I think we're at a, we're not even at a crossroads right now in America, we're at a cliff
- 15:49and we're hanging over the cliff.
- 15:51And so I was, this is my effort to try to be, you know, a voice in the wilderness saying,
- 15:57you know, hey, be careful, we need all hands on deck, we need to link arms.
- 16:02The book is non-denominational, it's non-partisan, I include excerpts from the Republican platform,
- 16:08the Democrat platform, links to the Green Party, the Libertarian Party.
- 16:13So people can see for themselves where the parties stand on different issues.
- 16:17It's also non-denominational.
- 16:19I wanted to bring people together just like in the founding of this country from different
- 16:24faith practices and denominations, but to agree on the basics, on the foundational truths
- 16:30on which this country was founded.
- 16:32And so the first part of the book, I do a refresher course on America's Judeo-Christian
- 16:37founding and the part that really saddens me is that we, as I would say, generation X
- 16:44and younger have been bereft of some of the truths and the facts of our founding in our
- 16:50history books.
- 16:51Yeah.
- 16:52It has been removed.
- 16:53And we no longer learn about some of the providential provisions and miracles that
- 17:02happened at our founding.
- 17:03We've been, you know, kept in the dark about how people of faith were involved from the
- 17:09beginning and how the founders assumed that people of faith would always be involved.
- 17:15And they actually, several of them have written and been quoted as saying, you know, it
- 17:21is reliant on a moral people, this government that we've established.
- 17:26And without that, it's not going to work.
- 17:28So we didn't learn that in school unless we were, you know, homeschooled using a Christian
- 17:34curriculum or something, we weren't taught that.
- 17:36So I wanted a refresher course on that and it really allows you to do even more study,
- 17:41you know, if you want to study wall builders or any of the resources that are out there.
- 17:46And then in the middle part of the book, I go into how do we get to this craziness in
- 17:51our culture where things are just completely off the rails, you know, people are just thinking
- 17:57things that just don't make any sense, even scientifically, not to mention morally.
- 18:02So how did we get here and how was this okay?
- 18:07And so we, I talk about that and how we were targeted and the division in the church.
- 18:12And then at the end, okay, so now that we know all this and we're at the cliff, what do
- 18:17we do?
- 18:18Where do we start?
- 18:19Thank you for putting it that way.
- 18:20We're not heading for the cliff.
- 18:22We're there.
- 18:23Yeah.
- 18:24And that's because we had, I don't know how long it's been.
- 18:25I would say 50 plus years of textbook publishers and others revisionists, rewriting history.
- 18:32You said that at least it's in the description of the book that millions of kids in America
- 18:36are being taught a revisionist history.
- 18:38And that's why I'm thankful that chapter two of the role of faith in America's founding,
- 18:43I'm just going to quote your book, there is no doubt that those who formed the various
- 18:49colonial governments of the original colonies in the early 1600s and those who later formed
- 18:54America's national government in the late 1700s were heavily inspired, influenced, and
- 19:02guided by their dedication and mutual reverence for the traditional Christian faith and the
- 19:09Holy Scriptures.
- 19:10And that kicks off chapter two.
- 19:12And thank you.
- 19:13I'm sure there's so much more in there.
- 19:16But I've heard, I think David Barton and others say, between 92 and 90% roughly of all
- 19:22letters and documents and writings from our founders either acknowledge the God of
- 19:28the Bible or reference the Bible or the Scriptures or the God of heaven in some way.
- 19:34And that's overwhelming.
- 19:35And we're in the 90s.
- 19:37Your thoughts on that before we go on?
- 19:39Yeah.
- 19:40And I think when you talk about the revisionist history that we're dealing with, they do
- 19:46things like they twist the fact that the founders use multiple names for God, a descriptive
- 19:52names for God, as a point to say that they didn't truly believe in God.
- 19:57They were just coming up with different names.
- 20:00Actually, the reason they used so many names for God was because they knew the character
- 20:05of God and how multifaceted he is and how he is something in every walk in every moment
- 20:14of life.
- 20:15God has a role to play.
- 20:17And they knew those roles and they knew his characteristics from studying the Scriptures.
- 20:22So there was a depth of knowledge that were we are lacking actually today.
- 20:26So it is a testimony and a testament to their knowledge of the Scripture, to their knowledge
- 20:33of who God is and how he is involved in the affairs of men, how he is involved in the
- 20:39setting up and taking downs of government.
- 20:42And he is the all in all, but as they wrote about him, they were able to express how they
- 20:49knew him in different situations.
- 20:51And I think it's a beautiful thing.
- 20:53But yeah, I mean, there's definitely a lack of education, you know, with, I would say
- 20:59Gen X and younger of really knowing any of this.
- 21:03So I'm going to mention just some of the contents out of the table of contents and I'm just
- 21:08going to let you talk a little bit about whatever one that you'd like to write now because
- 21:13there's just some great info in here.
- 21:15The faith required for self-governance.
- 21:18I don't do politics who determines American culture, generational lessons and coming threats,
- 21:25the global influence of the American church, a guide to, then there's a quick guide to
- 21:31the legislature and there's others too.
- 21:33I skipped around a little bit, civil civic engagement.
- 21:36So Christy, any one of those, whatever you'd like to share, to give a little insight
- 21:39on what you wrote about.
- 21:42I hear a lot of people say I don't do politics and we're talking, you know, people that
- 21:47you would think vote in primaries, say they just don't do politics.
- 21:51And I think it's something that we really need to come to terms with as Americans because
- 21:56we have a birthright of freedom that is unheard of in the, in the annals of time.
- 22:02Yes.
- 22:03Not to mention other countries.
- 22:05So we have this unbelievable gift of freedom that we've been given, a blessing.
- 22:11But with that blessing comes a huge responsibility.
- 22:16And I think generations previously have understood that we are a beacon of hope, salt and light
- 22:23around the world.
- 22:24I was standing on the Mount of Beatitudes with a guy who told us that he was not religious
- 22:29in any way.
- 22:30He was a citizen of Israel.
- 22:31He was Jewish by birth but not practicing and he's doing a great job leading us and he
- 22:35had us read Matthew 5 on the Mount of Beatitudes and it was quite the moment.
- 22:39And as we finished reading and he said, can you read verses 13 through 16 again?
- 22:45So we read, year the salt of the earth.
- 22:47But if the salt has lost its savor, wherewith shall it be salted, a decent sport good
- 22:51for nothing but to be cast out, be trodden under foot of men, year the light of the world,
- 22:55a city that is set in hill cannot be hid.
- 22:58When we were done, he looked at us and he said, I just want you to know, first of all,
- 23:01I thank you as Americans for being this, for doing what this thing that Jesus said
- 23:07to do.
- 23:08It's all in light.
- 23:09We've seen that and I just want to ask you, please don't stop.
- 23:13If you stop, I don't know who else is going to take your place.
- 23:18So when we say I don't do politics as Americans, I think that is a big mistake.
- 23:24It is ugly.
- 23:25It's never been pretty.
- 23:26I mean, when you look back at the debates on public debates between John Adams and Thomas
- 23:31Jefferson, I mean, it was pretty nasty.
- 23:34When you look at the caricatures that were drawn of Abraham Lincoln, when he was running,
- 23:39awful, awful things.
- 23:40I mean, we wouldn't stand for it today, but it is still nasty.
- 23:44It's still awful.
- 23:45My husband and my aunt for Congress, they spent $8 million of attack ads against him,
- 23:50$3 million of attack ads against him in another race.
- 23:54Why?
- 23:55Because he stood, because he stood strong and because he spoke truth.
- 23:59And yes, it was ugly and it was hard to be able to say, we're going to do this again.
- 24:03We're actually going to do this again.
- 24:06But we have to be part of that dialogue in that conversation.
- 24:09A lot of us complain about, and we talk about, you know, where does the culture start?
- 24:14We complain about the culture, right?
- 24:16So it's Hollywood's fault.
- 24:17It's Washington's fault.
- 24:19And really what I encourage, and this was hard hitting in the book, and I kind of debated,
- 24:23should I say this or not, but I said, you know what, let's just speak the truth.
- 24:26So the truth is culture starts in our hearts.
- 24:30It starts in my heart.
- 24:32So we need to analyze our hearts first and say, what is the culture I'm creating in my
- 24:36heart?
- 24:37Then we need to look at our family, our homes.
- 24:40What culture are we creating in our homes?
- 24:41What are we allowing in our homes?
- 24:43You know, what are we encouraging in our homes?
- 24:46And then as our homes are, you know, the culture of, you know, curiosity of positive, you
- 24:51know, thinking towards the things of God, following God with all of our hearts, staying
- 24:56focused on that, that can reach out into our community, into our schools, into our churches,
- 25:01into our businesses, create the culture around you that you need.
- 25:04I was asked the other day, okay, so Governor DeSantis, you know, just passed this legislation,
- 25:11saying that all the public schools are allowed to have chaplains, which is great, right?
- 25:16And then you have the satanic temple lobbying, you know, to have a chaplain.
- 25:20Yeah.
- 25:21The question was, what do we do?
- 25:22Was that the right thing to do?
- 25:24Yes, it was the right thing to do.
- 25:25You have a governor doing the right thing, but guess whose responsibility it is to shepherd
- 25:30and to make sure that the culture of that school is going in the right direction, it's
- 25:35us.
- 25:36It's me.
- 25:37It's the parents.
- 25:38It's the teachers.
- 25:39It's everybody in that community.
- 25:40We have to do our job.
- 25:42You can't rely on the governor to do everything.
- 25:44We have to do something.
- 25:45You know, we can't complain and say, well, he shouldn't have never done that because now
- 25:48there's no, wait a minute, wait a minute, he did a good job.
- 25:51Now it's up to us.
- 25:53So the culture really is, you know, it's important for us to realize that it is a personal
- 25:58thing.
- 25:59We can't play in Hollywood.
- 26:00And who's paying to watch, you know, the terrible stuff that Hollywood produces?
- 26:05When you look at the numbers, Christians are paying just as much as non-Christians, you
- 26:09know, so it really is a time to look in the mirror and take an assessment and say, okay,
- 26:15who are we?
- 26:16What are we doing?
- 26:17And are we about to lose this gift from God that we have had for these 200 plus years,
- 26:25you know, of our blessing in our country?
- 26:29Yeah, it's sobering seeing the lack of salt and light.
- 26:32And yeah, we need to get the church engaged again.
- 26:36Friends, the book is the spiritual price of political silence.
- 26:40And it's available at booksbychristy.com.
- 26:45Christy and just a minute or less.
- 26:47Do you see any trends or developments in recent years that give you hope for the future
- 26:52of America's political landscape?
- 26:55Because that's hard for me to envision, but you tend to be an optimist, I think, so go
- 26:59ahead.
- 27:00Yes.
- 27:01Yes, I do.
- 27:02I see great hope.
- 27:03My husband was having dinner with Justice Scalia before he passed away.
- 27:07And he asked him, is it too late?
- 27:09And Scalia says, what we need is a spiritual renewal.
- 27:12And I am seeing pockets, a spiritual renewal.
- 27:14I've seen revivals happening on college campuses.
- 27:18I've seen revivals happening in Washington state and California and Texas and Georgia,
- 27:23all over the country.
- 27:24And I think COVID had something to do with that.
- 27:27I think the frog in the boiling water was very comfortable.
- 27:31And all of a sudden, the heat got turned up.
- 27:33And we were, we realized we were about to burn to death.
- 27:37And I think there's a lot of people, especially parents who are waking up and they're ready
- 27:41to take action.
- 27:42And I think that that's going to make a difference.
- 27:45I like that.
- 27:46Perfect timing, too.
- 27:47Yeah.
- 27:48So people are waking up.
- 27:49We need revival.
- 27:50We've seen little bits and pieces.
- 27:51It's pray for more.
- 27:52Thank you so much for your time today.
- 27:53God bless you, sister.
- 27:54Appreciate your being on the podcast.
