- 1:16Speaker 1: Welcome to another hour of our radio archives, folks. This
- 1:18Speaker 1: is one that comes from the year two thousand and
- 1:21Speaker 1: This was a character that eventually sort of evolved into
- 1:24Speaker 1: General Shaw. This character is named Lloyd Bonafive. He's a
- 1:27Speaker 1: heating and plumbing guy that lives in alhambur, California, but
- 1:30Speaker 1: at one time was a Korean War active duty in
- 1:33Speaker 1: the Korean War. Is a United States Navy petty officer,
- 1:37Speaker 1: I think, right, I don't know, it's you know, I'm
- 1:39Speaker 1: the other version of him, right, So, anyway, as I
- 1:42Speaker 1: was saying, Lloyd was a Korean War veteran, he was
- 1:46Speaker 1: very very actively and vocally that and we have him
- 1:49Speaker 1: on the show today talking about how he broke into
- 1:51Speaker 1: a neighbor's house and cooked a day old steak and
- 1:53Speaker 1: ate or drank some of the guy's beer because he
- 1:54Speaker 1: didn't think veterans from the Korean War we're getting enough respect.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I say, here's Lloyd. We love him. He's a veteran.
- 2:04Speaker 2: He's nuts. But you know, go America. You're listening to
- 2:12Speaker 2: Phil Henry on Coast to Coast PM from the Premiere
- 2:16Speaker 2: Radio Networks Phil Henry Show. A Korean War veteran was
- 2:20Speaker 2: There was an arrest at the home of Korean War
- 2:22Speaker 2: veteran at Alhambra over the weekend. Sunday was the twenty
- 2:26Speaker 2: fifth anniversary. The twenty fifth the fiftieth anniversary of the
- 2:30Speaker 2: outbreak of the Korean War, and this arrest was made
- 2:34Speaker 2: on Sunday after a breaking and entering charge. His name
- 2:39Speaker 2: is Lloyd Bonafie. He is from al Hamber, California. He
- 2:42Speaker 2: is a naval veteran of the Korean conflict and was
- 2:45Speaker 2: arrested breaking into a neighbor's house. This neighbor, my understanding
- 2:51Speaker 2: most of bona Phie is a Korean national or a
- 2:55Speaker 2: Korean American.
- 2:57Speaker 3: The individual's home that I broke in too is mister
- 3:00Speaker 3: dog Kill and Kim and he is a Korean national
- 3:07Speaker 3: residing in the United States and has lived on the
- 3:11Speaker 3: southern border of my property for the last ten.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Years, and you broke into his home.
- 3:19Speaker 3: You really want to watch I say that because the
- 3:22Speaker 3: police thought.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Well, I'm just quoting with the police report, sir. You
- 3:26Speaker 2: know it said that.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Well, if the police told me that it was breaking
- 3:29Speaker 3: and entering, and I told him it was on the
- 3:32Speaker 3: fiftieth anniversary and the outbreak of the Korean Wars, reparations
- 3:37Speaker 3: and all right, well.
- 3:37Speaker 2: This is the story you gave the police. Mister Kim
- 3:40Speaker 2: came home. You said you saw this Asian fellow going
- 3:44Speaker 2: going crazy. You were drinking his beer and cooking his steaks.
- 3:48Speaker 3: No, sir, I explained that in light of the fact
- 3:51Speaker 3: that a whole lot of guys saved their bacon fifty
- 3:54Speaker 3: years ago, and it seemed to me that a decent
- 3:57Speaker 3: thing to do would bete to give a tip of
- 4:00Speaker 3: the hat to the Korean War veterans. So I got
- 4:03Speaker 3: the idea about this reparation deal. And I don't know
- 4:07Speaker 3: if you're familiar with what reparations are.
- 4:10Speaker 2: I know that reparations have been traditionally used to make
- 4:16Speaker 2: some kind of monetary amends to the victims of some
- 4:18Speaker 2: oppression or war. Is that what you think Korean War
- 4:21Speaker 2: veterans are entitled to Yes, sir.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Yes, I do. Why because I think we are the
- 4:27Speaker 3: forgotten veterans. The fiftieth anniversary and the outbreak of the
- 4:31Speaker 3: Korean conflict came and went, and nobody says boo. So
- 4:39Speaker 3: I think it's a fine. How do you do to
- 4:41Speaker 3: ignore the Korean War veteran? And I think that reparations
- 4:46Speaker 3: are in order for each and every one of the
- 4:49Speaker 3: ten million veterans of the Korean conflict. That would be
- 4:55Speaker 3: in my way was to go into the house of
- 4:57Speaker 3: this South Korean and acquire reparation.
- 5:00Speaker 2: All right, So you live next door to this guy,
- 5:02Speaker 2: and you went into his house on the fiftieth anniversary
- 5:06Speaker 2: of the outbreak of the Korean War to steal something, No.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Sir, you know. And again, mister Henry, you need to
- 5:14Speaker 3: watch the way you say certain things.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Well, to my way of thinking, you go to a
- 5:18Speaker 2: guy's house, you take stuff.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Well, it was a symbolic gesture on my part to
- 5:24Speaker 3: take back some payment from these people for what we
- 5:26Speaker 3: did and get the reparations. And by breaking in and
- 5:32Speaker 3: having some stake and doing some of this Asian beer.
- 5:36Speaker 3: This is my way of doing it. Now, this guy
- 5:39Speaker 3: came home and this Asian fellow went wild, and I
- 5:42Speaker 3: said to him, and not in the name of the
- 5:46Speaker 3: ten million Korean war veterans, I'm having this your steak
- 5:51Speaker 3: and I'm drinking your beer.
- 5:53Speaker 2: In the name of ten million Korean war veterans.
- 5:56Speaker 3: You what I was having that this guy had a
- 5:59Speaker 3: probable for a six pack of this Korean beer and
- 6:02Speaker 3: a day old steak.
- 6:04Speaker 2: So that's why you did that to get there. This
- 6:06Speaker 2: was your reparation cooking this guy's steak and drinking his beer. Yes, sir,
- 6:10Speaker 2: how did you get into his house?
- 6:12Speaker 3: I'm sorry?
- 6:12Speaker 2: How did you get into his house?
- 6:16Speaker 3: Well, sir, that is something that I cannot tell you,
- 6:19Speaker 3: because I am a military veteran and there are things
- 6:22Speaker 3: that I know how to do, and under the terms
- 6:25Speaker 3: of the Geneva Convention, mister Henry, I don't have to
- 6:28Speaker 3: tell you the things that I know how to do.
- 6:31Speaker 3: On account I'm a military veteran.
- 6:35Speaker 2: You cannot tell me how you broke into this man's house.
- 6:37Speaker 3: No, I may not, sir, under the terms of the
- 6:39Speaker 3: Geneva Convention.
- 6:41Speaker 2: You invoked the Geneva Convention with the police. You realized
- 6:43Speaker 2: we're not in a war anymore. Mister bonafid, these are
- 6:46Speaker 2: civilian authorities in the United States who caught you in
- 6:49Speaker 2: someone's home.
- 6:50Speaker 3: No, I understand all of that, but I am educating
- 6:53Speaker 3: the police, and I remember that when the police were
- 6:57Speaker 3: asking me these questions, I didn't answer them.
- 7:00Speaker 2: That the police say that all you answered with was
- 7:02Speaker 2: with your name and your rank in the US Navy.
- 7:06Speaker 3: I said, my name is Lloyd Bonaphie. I'm a retired
- 7:09Speaker 3: petty officer, United States Navy. And I'll tell you that
- 7:13Speaker 3: I cannot give you any information. And I'll tell you
- 7:19Speaker 3: it was very difficult for me while the police questioned me,
- 7:22Speaker 3: and all I could think of was my wife, Ruth,
- 7:24Speaker 3: in the American flag, and I never was able, but
- 7:28Speaker 3: they didn't break me, and they tried to sweat me.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Okay, keep in mind for anybody's just tuning and we're
- 7:33Speaker 2: talking to a Korean War veteran who's talking about being
- 7:36Speaker 2: questioned by the police in Alhambra, not by North Koreans.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Well, you can make a joke of it, sir.
- 7:43Speaker 2: No, sir, I'm not trying to make a joke of it.
- 7:44Speaker 2: But you said you're crying and you were thinking of
- 7:47Speaker 2: the flag and your wife and Meanwhile, these are police officers,
- 7:50Speaker 2: ask you how you broke into this house. It's the
- 7:52Speaker 2: Phil Henry Show. We're talking to a Korean war vet
- 7:55Speaker 2: named Lloyd Bonafhies, retired petty officer from the US Navy,
- 7:58Speaker 2: who went into the hole of a Korean neighbor on
- 8:02Speaker 2: the anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War. And
- 8:05Speaker 2: when this man came home, mister Kim, he saw you barbecuing.
- 8:08Speaker 3: One of his steaks. He's he's got a problem over
- 8:12Speaker 3: a day old steak.
- 8:14Speaker 2: What do you mean he has a problem over a
- 8:16Speaker 2: day old steak, sir.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Because I went into his refrigerator and he had some
- 8:21Speaker 3: meat there from the vans which didn't look very fresh.
- 8:25Speaker 3: And I had a problem but some of this Korean beer,
- 8:29Speaker 3: which I wouldn't. Let me tell you something. It was
- 8:33Speaker 3: a symbolic gesture. Otherwise I'd rather take a sip out
- 8:36Speaker 3: of a toilet at Dodger Stadium and.
- 8:39Speaker 2: My all right. So he didn't like the man's beer, no, sir,
- 8:42Speaker 2: I did not. Now the police finally get there, mister
- 8:45Speaker 2: Kim got there.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Mister Kim arrived asked me what I was doing at
- 8:50Speaker 3: his house. I told him I was getting reparations for
- 8:53Speaker 3: the Korean.
- 8:53Speaker 2: War veterans, and he called the police, well somewhat called
- 8:59Speaker 2: the yeah, because the police showed up and you were
- 9:02Speaker 2: transported to a police substation and you were questioned. I
- 9:07Speaker 2: was questioned what you were asked? You were asked, how
- 9:10Speaker 2: did you get in?
- 9:12Speaker 3: I was asked by the police how I edited? And
- 9:14Speaker 3: I did not answer, And you will tell me now,
- 9:17Speaker 3: mister Henry. You have to understand that as a military veteran,
- 9:21Speaker 3: there are things that I know how to do.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Here's my question for you. What things do you know
- 9:28Speaker 2: how to do that you can't talk to me about.
- 9:31Speaker 3: The Geneva Convention clearly states that I don't have to
- 9:35Speaker 3: tell you the things I know how to do.
- 9:39Speaker 2: The Geneva can Well, I don't know anything about the
- 9:40Speaker 2: Geneva Convention. Okay, Well it.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Covers it covers the treatment of prisoners of war and
- 9:45Speaker 3: the wounded, and how well you can interrogate someone.
- 9:50Speaker 2: San Diego on the Phil Henry Show. Hello.
- 9:53Speaker 4: Hello, Yes, sir, sir, I appreciate you being a veteran
- 9:58Speaker 4: of this country and defending the country, but you need
- 10:01Speaker 4: to fast forward yourself to the year two thousand and
- 10:05Speaker 4: either understand that is no longer the Korean War.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Well, I'm in the year two thousand, a year where
- 10:12Speaker 3: they don't some ten billion Korean War veterans don't get
- 10:16Speaker 3: any appreciation.
- 10:17Speaker 4: Well, what about Veterans Day? Does that not include all veterans?
- 10:21Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, on Veterans Day, it's always the World
- 10:24Speaker 3: War Two boys. And then of course it's those Vietnam
- 10:28Speaker 3: boys who cry and cry and cry unless you give
- 10:32Speaker 3: them a pat on the head and tell them everything's
- 10:34Speaker 3: going to be okay. So that nom vet is lost
- 10:37Speaker 3: in the middle of all of that.
- 10:39Speaker 4: I think you need to be seen by a psychiatrist.
- 10:43Speaker 3: That's what they say about a lot of vans. That's
- 10:45Speaker 3: what they say about a lot of veterans.
- 10:47Speaker 2: You know, you don't think you need a psychiatrist.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Why would I need a psychiatrist, sir?
- 10:52Speaker 2: Because you broke into a man's house.
- 10:55Speaker 3: You I was making a symbolic gesture for the reparations
- 10:59Speaker 3: to the Korean veterans.
- 11:01Speaker 4: For your personal gain of a steak. So you tell
- 11:04Speaker 4: all the other veterans you served with that you had
- 11:07Speaker 4: steak on their behalf by a Korean man.
- 11:11Speaker 2: In the US, this was a symbolic We.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Didn't do anything to you personal.
- 11:15Speaker 3: The guy went nuts over a day old steak and
- 11:18Speaker 3: some goofy. You know there's some of that beer they drank.
- 11:22Speaker 4: You're lucky, sir. He's not a violent man. I'm spending
- 11:26Speaker 4: his home that he didn't take you out.
- 11:28Speaker 3: Mister, I'm a veteran of a military conflict, okay, So
- 11:32Speaker 3: I think I know a.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Little bit upon that, all right, And you're how old
- 11:36Speaker 2: are you?
- 11:36Speaker 3: It doesn't make any difference.
- 11:38Speaker 2: No, but how old you you're a veteran of the
- 11:39Speaker 2: Korean War? How old are you?
- 11:40Speaker 3: It doesn't make any difference.
- 11:42Speaker 2: So does Geneva convention say you don't have to tell.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Me, and you can make all of your jokes, all right.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Thank you very much, sir for your call. So this
- 11:50Speaker 2: guy is Korean War vet on the fiftieth anniversary of
- 11:52Speaker 2: the outbreak of the Korean War, broke into the home
- 11:54Speaker 2: of a Korean neighbor, drank his beer and cooked up
- 11:57Speaker 2: one of his steaks as a form of reparation for
- 12:00Speaker 2: the Korean War vets that are ignored this time of year.
- 12:03Speaker 2: And he was arrested questioned by police, and all he
- 12:07Speaker 2: gave them was his name and his rank. And when
- 12:11Speaker 2: I asked the man. And you heard me ask him
- 12:13Speaker 2: point blank, how did you get into the house. He
- 12:15Speaker 2: said to me, I don't have to answer that. There's
- 12:17Speaker 2: a lot of stuff that I know how to do.
- 12:19Speaker 2: I was in the military. It's Phil Henry Show, Phil
- 12:25Speaker 2: Henry Show. Mister Lloyd Bonafie, he's a Korean War veteran,
- 12:28Speaker 2: has joined us from his home in Alhambur, California, and
- 12:31Speaker 2: we have him on the line, and we're also talking
- 12:34Speaker 2: to you about mister bonafi breaking into a Korean neighbor's
- 12:37Speaker 2: house on the fiftieth anniversary of the outbreak of the
- 12:39Speaker 2: Korean War as reparations for Korean War vets. He cooked
- 12:43Speaker 2: up a steak. You call it a day old steak.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Yeah, it was as tough as shoe leather. And some
- 12:49Speaker 3: of that squirrely Asian beer and that's all that.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I You date, you drank some of his squirrely Asian
- 12:57Speaker 2: beer and.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Yeah, well it's some of that stuff. I don't know
- 13:00Speaker 3: what it is, but I did it for the reparations
- 13:03Speaker 3: of the Korean War. Betch we invaded once and we
- 13:07Speaker 3: can do it again.
- 13:09Speaker 2: And the police asked you how you got in, and
- 13:11Speaker 2: you wouldn't tell him that is great. Here is Okalla
- 13:14Speaker 2: on the Phil Henry Show. Hello, Hello, is there? I
- 13:20Speaker 2: guess I am go ahead, ma'am you're on the air.
- 13:23Speaker 5: Yes, I have the answer to this gentleman. He wants
- 13:27Speaker 5: to be compensated for what happened. First off, we didn't
- 13:30Speaker 5: invade the country. We were asked there by the South Koreans.
- 13:34Speaker 3: When we invaded Korea, when we invaded Guran.
- 13:37Speaker 5: When excuse me, when you came home you had veterans benefits?
- 13:43Speaker 5: You know, the GI bill.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Well, you know that's a funny thing.
- 13:46Speaker 5: About besides the fact that you were paid.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Well, that's a funny thing about the GI bill because
- 13:53Speaker 3: you see, everybody gets that. So what's the big band?
- 13:57Speaker 5: No, sir, only veterans of wars get that.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Okay, the Vietnam cry babies got it.
- 14:03Speaker 5: Excuse me, I'm a Vietnam cry baby.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Well you know something with all for all years he
- 14:10Speaker 3: served with all. What do you mean you're a Vietnam
- 14:12Speaker 3: You're a Vietnam bet you bet?
- 14:14Speaker 5: I am baby?
- 14:15Speaker 3: Oh wait a second, uh the.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Vietnam war man? What were you? What did where did
- 14:20Speaker 2: you serve? Ma'am?
- 14:21Speaker 3: A woman? She was a nurse or something.
- 14:24Speaker 5: You're a radiuman. I was an intelligence bestial one.
- 14:27Speaker 3: No wonder we lost. Oh excuse me, you know you
- 14:31Speaker 3: all that.
- 14:33Speaker 5: I know better than to run in and break into
- 14:35Speaker 5: somebody's house because I want to play the little child.
- 14:38Speaker 3: I want to get reparations for the teparations.
- 14:41Speaker 5: You were paid for what you did there, and you
- 14:43Speaker 5: were given the GI bill. What more do you want
- 14:46Speaker 5: from your country?
- 14:47Speaker 3: I'll tell you what. When the Vietnam cry babies came home,
- 14:51Speaker 3: they got parades and everybody's.
- 14:54Speaker 5: Oh heart, they got parades. I think you all to
- 14:58Speaker 5: go back and live that era again.
- 15:00Speaker 3: We were stone Vietnam veterans not.
- 15:02Speaker 5: In fact, we were told by our commanding officer not
- 15:05Speaker 5: to go off base in our uniforms because sailors were
- 15:09Speaker 5: being attacked.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Well, how come all of.
- 15:11Speaker 5: Being a Vietnam veteran grow up and live in the
- 15:14Speaker 5: real world.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Second, how come all the Vietnam veterans got to go
- 15:18Speaker 3: into the nuthouse for free and all of the Korean
- 15:21Speaker 3: war break?
- 15:23Speaker 2: What do you mean nuthouse for free?
- 15:25Speaker 3: Half of these Vietnam veteran the lunatic bin because they
- 15:28Speaker 3: are all a bunch of baby murderers. The other half
- 15:31Speaker 3: of what about that baby murderers.
- 15:36Speaker 5: What about that awful thing to say?
- 15:37Speaker 3: What about the son of a bitch that got caught,
- 15:40Speaker 3: William Kelly, son of a.
- 15:42Speaker 2: That was one guy, man, That was one guy too much.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Wait a second, that William Kelly guy at the mau
- 15:50Speaker 3: Mau massacre.
- 15:51Speaker 5: Grow already come out with that.
- 15:54Speaker 2: What's the mau Mau massacre?
- 15:56Speaker 5: He wasn't even stationed there was Yeah, he wasn't even
- 16:00Speaker 5: stationed there.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Oh, blone, that bald headed son of a gun.
- 16:04Speaker 5: They had wasn't stationed there. He was eighty miles away.
- 16:09Speaker 5: It was all a fabrication. Maybe you should catch up
- 16:12Speaker 5: on local news.
- 16:14Speaker 2: The Meline massacre was a fabrication. Yes, it was really.
- 16:16Speaker 5: I didn't know about that was big talk show host.
- 16:21Speaker 3: You aren't even up on the information, aren't you.
- 16:24Speaker 2: You're the nut that busted into somebody's house for a
- 16:26Speaker 2: day old steak.
- 16:29Speaker 5: He doesn't like Madam. I asked you, was the Korean
- 16:33Speaker 5: a South Korean or North Korea?
- 16:34Speaker 3: He was a South Korean and he was one of.
- 16:37Speaker 5: Our allies at the house of one of our allies.
- 16:41Speaker 3: That was the whole point. To get the reparation from
- 16:44Speaker 3: the people.
- 16:45Speaker 5: In Yeah, you took reparation from the man that asked
- 16:49Speaker 5: us to help against communist cakeover well that we forget
- 16:54Speaker 5: what we went in there.
- 16:55Speaker 3: That still doesn't figure out how we were ever gonna
- 16:58Speaker 3: win a war, doesn't give you you working on the radio.
- 17:01Speaker 2: That's exactly right. And thank you very much, ma'am for
- 17:03Speaker 2: your call and for your service to our country. And
- 17:06Speaker 2: one eight hundred.
- 17:07Speaker 3: What about my service to the country.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Yeah, you know something fine, But you know I wanted
- 17:13Speaker 2: to thank that lady because you insulted her by saying
- 17:15Speaker 2: there's no women radioman. Oh in no wonder we lost
- 17:18Speaker 2: the war and all of that stuff.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Oh, I'm making a point about the Mamo and there ain't.
- 17:24Speaker 2: No Mau Mau. It was the Meli massacre, although the
- 17:27Speaker 2: lady says it never happened. So you learned something new
- 17:29Speaker 2: every day. Here's Palmdale on the Phil Henry Show.
- 17:31Speaker 6: Hello.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Hello, Yes, ma'am high.
- 17:34Speaker 7: Hi, I'm calling from Palmdale. Yes, ma'am, sir, I wanted
- 17:37Speaker 7: to mention about the gentleman that came into someone's house
- 17:41Speaker 7: that was totally wrong, that was just uncalled for. And
- 17:45Speaker 7: another thing that you were in the Korean War. Also,
- 17:49Speaker 7: my father was he was in God he's dead today,
- 17:53Speaker 7: but we had ave. And another thing that really hurt
- 17:59Speaker 7: me with you say that, you know I had veterans,
- 18:03Speaker 7: a young people that was drafted into the service out
- 18:07Speaker 7: of my class when I was going to school.
- 18:12Speaker 3: For your father, for your father.
- 18:15Speaker 7: You don't have for them a dad today. People that
- 18:20Speaker 7: I went to school went the Vietnam. They went over there.
- 18:22Speaker 7: They were they were drafted over there. All of them
- 18:26Speaker 7: weren't cry babies. A lot of them stood up for
- 18:29Speaker 7: their country and a lot of them didn't even rebel
- 18:32Speaker 7: to go. But for you also, traveling with my dad
- 18:39Speaker 7: said it because you you're hurting a lot of people.
- 18:42Speaker 7: And if you need help because you and my father
- 18:52Speaker 7: dad he used to go.
- 18:56Speaker 3: But what to do? Grocer you overbody? And that was
- 19:01Speaker 3: in the nineteen fifty one Championship game, Kid Dreaming bat
- 19:08Speaker 3: when the Brooklyn Dodgers the million beautiful game, we can
- 19:12Speaker 3: preacher rode through a spect day everyone Joe brod game
- 19:15Speaker 3: out of the boatmen day fifty one when Bobby Thompson hit.
- 19:19Speaker 7: The home run.
- 19:21Speaker 2: What the hell is he talking about?
- 19:23Speaker 7: Everybody was not a crowd daby, some not a thing.
- 19:30Speaker 3: Waters call them crabbit croud baby, but I love hockey.
- 19:38Speaker 7: What I'm not even gonna call you crab day.
- 19:42Speaker 3: What are you talking about? Come on, Scotty Bowman, out
- 19:45Speaker 3: of coaching the Detroit Red Wings for years, what are
- 19:48Speaker 3: you talking about. I'm living in the dress or in
- 19:53Speaker 3: the past. I thought you said there was a window
- 19:54Speaker 3: of clinting.
- 19:56Speaker 7: Them about it and call them crid baby.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Thank you man.
- 20:00Speaker 7: I don't like what you said. I have gone. I
- 20:02Speaker 7: went to school to dead the day behind that war.
- 20:05Speaker 7: But I don't hold nothing to get you, and now
- 20:07Speaker 7: I say I love you.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Shut up.
- 20:17Speaker 2: It's a few days after the fiftieth anniversary of the
- 20:19Speaker 2: outbreak of the Korean War, which was on June twenty fifth.
- 20:22Speaker 2: The war began nineteen fifty June twenty fifth of nineteen
- 20:25Speaker 2: fifty with US as a Korean War veteran, Mister Lloyd
- 20:29Speaker 2: Bonafie served in the United States Navy. He was a
- 20:31Speaker 2: chief petty officer a board of minesweeper, and he broke
- 20:35Speaker 2: into the home of a South Korean neighbor of his
- 20:38Speaker 2: in Alhambra, cooked up a steak and drank some of
- 20:41Speaker 2: his beer as what he called reparations for the Korean vets.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Who've been forgotten. Yeah, I want to get back to
- 20:48Speaker 2: one thing before we take some more phone calls. Mister Bonafie,
- 20:51Speaker 2: you say that the Alhambra police asked you questions and
- 20:55Speaker 2: you refused to answer them.
- 20:57Speaker 3: That is correct under the terms of the Geneva Convention.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Okay, that's not a military guy question you, that's that
- 21:05Speaker 2: is And the police report says that you were found
- 21:07Speaker 2: in your underpants and a tank top T shirt. Yes, sir, why.
- 21:14Speaker 3: Mister here, Because I was in the military, I know
- 21:18Speaker 3: the certain things that I cannot divulge, but I will
- 21:21Speaker 3: say that I was stripped down for the mission, and
- 21:24Speaker 3: there are submissions that called for you to travel lights.
- 21:28Speaker 2: So you stripped down to your underwear and a T
- 21:30Speaker 2: shirt and busted into this guy's house, drank beard, cooked
- 21:32Speaker 2: a steak as part of your mission.
- 21:36Speaker 3: I've probably answered too many questions already, but yes, who
- 21:39Speaker 3: are you protecting?
- 21:40Speaker 2: I don't understand what. So you stripped down in your
- 21:42Speaker 2: underwear window, you guy's.
- 21:43Speaker 3: House, and mister Hendre, these are things that if you're
- 21:46Speaker 3: not a veteran you don't understand. Other veterans will get
- 21:49Speaker 3: it all right.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Here is Port Saint Lucy on the Phil Henry Show.
- 21:53Speaker 6: Hello, Hello, Hi, I'm a Vietnam veteran. I just wanted
- 21:58Speaker 6: to address some of the things. Mister Bob Bonterfly. That
- 22:01Speaker 6: his name Bonafies, Bonafly Bonafies Italian.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Yes, sir, Yeah, you're a Vietnam Vietnam guy.
- 22:08Speaker 6: Well that's correct, mister bonafi I just you know, I
- 22:11Speaker 6: just called because more or less you upset me a
- 22:14Speaker 6: little bit. Your comments about the Vietnam veterans.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Well, I don't mean it personally, but uh, you know
- 22:19Speaker 3: what I mean, a lot of these Vietnam boys crying
- 22:22Speaker 3: and whining about stuff. You don't hear the Korean boys
- 22:25Speaker 3: doing it. Well, sure they do.
- 22:30Speaker 6: That was the traumatic experience for everyone that was in
- 22:33Speaker 6: the war.
- 22:34Speaker 3: I thought there was in the Navy in.
- 22:35Speaker 6: World War Two. I went to Vietnam for a year.
- 22:39Speaker 3: You know. I feel bad for the Korean guys too.
- 22:41Speaker 6: I give them all the recognition.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Hello, yes, sir, right here.
- 22:47Speaker 6: Well, you know you, I think you need a little
- 22:50Speaker 6: bit of help. I think what you did was a
- 22:51Speaker 6: little on the line, and you're gonna give your fellow
- 22:53Speaker 6: veterans a bad name. Mister Bonafies.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Sure, I don't think so. I think what I did
- 22:58Speaker 3: was I made a stake, but I'd be happy of
- 23:00Speaker 3: the Korean War veterans and I brought and I had
- 23:05Speaker 3: to and I had a stake. Well, I mean, what
- 23:09Speaker 3: do you mean, perh. You know, I don't mind talking
- 23:12Speaker 3: to the veteran here, But mister Henry, are you a
- 23:14Speaker 3: veteran of a foreign walk?
- 23:15Speaker 2: No, sir, I am not.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Uh. And you think you belong in the company of
- 23:19Speaker 3: other men?
- 23:20Speaker 2: What's that supposed to mean?
- 23:22Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 23:23Speaker 2: No, I don't know what you mean. What is that
- 23:25Speaker 2: supposed to mean? I'm not allowed to have a conversation
- 23:27Speaker 2: with you guys because I didn't fight in the war.
- 23:29Speaker 3: It's about the size of it.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Yeah, No, okay, Well I'll let you two guys talk
- 23:34Speaker 2: about it. Then. All right.
- 23:35Speaker 3: You were the one who made the pra. You know,
- 23:37Speaker 3: you went pra like that. That didn't he didn't he
- 23:41Speaker 3: I didn't hear him doing Oh hell you, I heard
- 23:44Speaker 3: him go plare Well I've never heard I'll say this much.
- 23:48Speaker 3: I for all ten million veterans, I made a stand.
- 23:54Speaker 6: Well, you made a stand, but it wasn't a correct
- 23:57Speaker 6: stand to do, sir.
- 23:58Speaker 7: You you were way out of line.
- 23:59Speaker 6: And the breaking into someone's home and eating their steaks
- 24:02Speaker 6: and drinking their drinks or whatever you did, and that
- 24:05Speaker 6: some of this may I suggest to call to the
- 24:07Speaker 6: v A. To you, mister bona.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Fire, What are they do? You know what I mean?
- 24:11Speaker 6: You know we we I as a Vietnam veteran, appreciate
- 24:14Speaker 6: what you did as a Korean War veteran. But I
- 24:16Speaker 6: think you need some serious You need to talk to somebody.
- 24:20Speaker 3: Way are you telling me I need to talk to
- 24:22Speaker 3: a doctor?
- 24:23Speaker 6: H Well, you need to talk to somebody that understands you.
- 24:26Speaker 6: And and at the v A there's a lot of
- 24:29Speaker 6: nice gentlemen there, and you know you may not have
- 24:33Speaker 6: to talk with doctor.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Uh.
- 24:37Speaker 6: I'm not saying he's crazy.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Oh no, no, you're not saying that at all.
- 24:41Speaker 6: I'm saying you're a little out of line. You need
- 24:43Speaker 6: a little.
- 24:46Speaker 3: War.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Okay, fine, Here is San Diego and the Phil Henry Show.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Hello San Diego. Hello, Hello, Yes, ma'am.
- 24:54Speaker 8: High Well, I would just like to tell the gentlemen
- 24:56Speaker 8: that I am the way x fife of a Korean God.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Bless you, thank.
- 25:01Speaker 8: You, and I'm sorry that you feel unappreciated, but I'd
- 25:04Speaker 8: like to know that in San Diego. The Korean community
- 25:07Speaker 8: had a big dinner to thank and give their gratitude
- 25:11Speaker 8: to all the Korean War, the Korean War veterans. They
- 25:15Speaker 8: had a free dinner. It was a beautiful dinner.
- 25:18Speaker 3: They I hear about it.
- 25:19Speaker 8: They gave them all medallions that commemorated the fifty years.
- 25:23Speaker 8: The people came down from Los Angeles. They came from
- 25:25Speaker 8: all over it to.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Say, first of all, did people veterans actually go to this?
- 25:30Speaker 8: Oh? Yes, And they were all at let's say, seventy
- 25:33Speaker 8: to eighty five years old.
- 25:34Speaker 3: And they don't realize how dangerous that could be.
- 25:37Speaker 8: Why would it be dangerous.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Because you are moving into the enemy area.
- 25:42Speaker 8: These were not enemies, sir.
- 25:43Speaker 3: These are Koreans, correct, These and you've got old American
- 25:46Speaker 3: veterans who are at the mercy of young Koreans.
- 25:49Speaker 8: These are not young Koreans. These are old people who
- 25:51Speaker 8: lived there and thanked the Americans for coming.
- 25:53Speaker 4: To stay there.
- 25:54Speaker 3: So let me ask you this. They asked American veterans
- 25:57Speaker 3: to drink that garbage Korean beer. Is that what you're
- 26:01Speaker 3: telling me? No, I'm not well mat if I believe
- 26:03Speaker 3: I think that's what you're indicating.
- 26:05Speaker 8: They had a beautiful dinner at the Veterans Museum, and
- 26:08Speaker 8: people commemorated and thank them with lots of gratitude to
- 26:11Speaker 8: tell them how much.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Let me ask you, mister Bonafi. First of all, you're saying,
- 26:14Speaker 2: why didn't I hear about it? Now you're saying, and
- 26:16Speaker 2: they were forced to go into the presence of the enemy.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Did you want to go?
- 26:19Speaker 3: Well, they didn't invite me, did they.
- 26:23Speaker 8: Well, maybe you don't have any contact with the community
- 26:25Speaker 8: or with the other veterans groups.
- 26:27Speaker 3: And then the other thing I would say is I
- 26:29Speaker 3: think it's dangerous for seventy year old Korean veterans to
- 26:32Speaker 3: be around a lot of Koreans that know karate.
- 26:36Speaker 8: These are seventy year old Koreans and fifty year old
- 26:38Speaker 8: Koreans and young Koreans who heard about it, and they're
- 26:41Speaker 8: all there to say thank you.
- 26:42Speaker 2: They were saying thank you. See, I mean, excuse me. Meanwhile,
- 26:46Speaker 2: you're busted into a guy's house and drinking his beer
- 26:48Speaker 2: and eating his steak.
- 26:49Speaker 3: Because nobody invited me to San Diego, did they?
- 26:52Speaker 8: Well, I'm very sorry you miss all.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Hell there you go. See that's what happens.
- 26:55Speaker 2: So, in other words, because you didn't get invited to
- 26:57Speaker 2: San Diego. You got a right to bust into a
- 26:59Speaker 2: guy's house.
- 26:59Speaker 3: I would think they do me the courtesy of inviting me.
- 27:02Speaker 8: I will tell you that the Korean console came down
- 27:04Speaker 8: from Los Angeles City. He could have been government is
- 27:07Speaker 8: very grateful, and they acknowledge it publicly.
- 27:10Speaker 3: I could have gotten a lift with the guy, couldn't.
- 27:13Speaker 3: I you what I could have gotten a lift with
- 27:15Speaker 3: the Korean War consulate.
- 27:18Speaker 8: Well that with the attitude that you have, Well, if
- 27:21Speaker 8: I'd have known.
- 27:21Speaker 2: I would okay. So, in other words, if they would
- 27:23Speaker 2: have invited you to the party, you wouldn't have busted
- 27:25Speaker 2: in and drank the guy's lousy beer as you called it,
- 27:27Speaker 2: and his day old steak.
- 27:29Speaker 8: Wen I've got to go. I just wanted to know.
- 27:31Speaker 3: That they had a few dogs went missiting my neighborhood
- 27:35Speaker 3: two weeks ago. And I'll be a son of a
- 27:37Speaker 3: gun if that isn't what I hate. Now you tell
- 27:40Speaker 3: me I'm going to go down to a big Korean
- 27:42Speaker 3: block party in San Diego. H ha ha, No, thank you.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Thank you, ma'am for your call. So, in other words,
- 27:50Speaker 2: you do want to go, or you don't want to go?
- 27:53Speaker 2: Or what is it.
- 27:54Speaker 3: What I want is sub recognition for the fact that
- 27:57Speaker 3: I went on a dangerous mission.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Yeah, because you were stripped down to your tank top
- 28:01Speaker 2: and your and your shorts. Palmdale on the Phil Henry Show. Hello, Hello, Yes, hi.
- 28:07Speaker 7: I called against because Sir, I grew You're the shame lady. Sir. Yeah,
- 28:13Speaker 7: I wanted to apologize for you to you from the
- 28:16Speaker 7: way that I spoke to you, because I don't like
- 28:18Speaker 7: to do that. I used to be a case manager
- 28:23Speaker 7: for the veterans and when you mentioned about the.
- 28:25Speaker 6: Vent, a lot of people that.
- 28:28Speaker 7: But I want to invite you even though I want
- 28:36Speaker 7: you to give you a phone number to the VA
- 28:38Speaker 7: hospital and you could walk through there, even the volunteer service,
- 28:42Speaker 7: and they probably could give you recognition for you, and
- 28:46Speaker 7: I may I could give you the phone number, and.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Whether they're gonna give me a record of them, Yes,
- 28:51Speaker 3: recognition if you go in there.
- 28:52Speaker 7: And talk talking about even though those veterans that died
- 28:56Speaker 7: of the Vietnam they.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Weren't quite I can talk about it.
- 29:01Speaker 7: To give him the phone number.
- 29:02Speaker 3: Well, wait a minute, I got to tell the young
- 29:04Speaker 3: lady that I'm not allowed to speak of these things
- 29:06Speaker 3: on account of the Geneva convention.
- 29:08Speaker 7: I'm not I'm talking about America. Yes, many do you
- 29:13Speaker 7: want me to give you the phone number?
- 29:15Speaker 3: I would like you to do that, but remember I
- 29:17Speaker 3: can't only give my name, ran your name.
- 29:20Speaker 7: I'm gonna give you a phone number at the Veteran's hospital,
- 29:23Speaker 7: but I can't talk to and starts, I can't talk
- 29:26Speaker 7: to number is talk to the volunteer because there are
- 29:29Speaker 7: people that it was in the I talk my name, ranker,
- 29:39Speaker 7: get involved with that?
- 29:40Speaker 3: Do you know how that is? You know? If you
- 29:42Speaker 3: only could give your name, ranked, serial number?
- 29:44Speaker 7: Who what do you mean?
- 29:47Speaker 2: Your name, rank, and serial number? You can talk to
- 29:49Speaker 2: the v A guys, Okay, you can know I was stripped.
- 29:53Speaker 3: Down for a mission.
- 29:54Speaker 7: If you you get in a group thanks without the
- 29:59Speaker 7: veterans and do what and talk to them and spell
- 30:02Speaker 7: your heart out like you're doing. But everything you says
- 30:07Speaker 7: is not true.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Do they have a television room over there with you
- 30:10Speaker 3: have right?
- 30:12Speaker 7: Don't nuts? They have counselors. Tell them how you feel hurt?
- 30:22Speaker 7: A lot of people were hurt.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Job price is right?
- 30:25Speaker 7: Huh win it did that job.
- 30:27Speaker 3: Bob Barker was in the Korean Wolf. He was a
- 30:30Speaker 3: pilot who was a pilot, Bob Barker.
- 30:32Speaker 2: What has this got to do with what the lady's
- 30:34Speaker 2: talking about?
- 30:35Speaker 7: You need some friends. Do you have a daughter or family?
- 30:40Speaker 7: You probably need friends.
- 30:42Speaker 3: Could I play Backgammon?
- 30:43Speaker 7: You probably you did play?
- 30:45Speaker 2: They played there?
- 30:46Speaker 7: Yeah, they got game Boy. I'm there.
