- 0:00SPEAKER_01: One person specifically said, Don't do this.
- 0:03SPEAKER_01: Not a good idea.
- 0:05SPEAKER_01: Best way to lose a friendship.
- 0:06SPEAKER_01: So this mom picks up her kid from school.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: No big deal.
- 0:09SPEAKER_02: As you do.
- 0:10SPEAKER_01: A friend of hers, who the kids are friends to.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: So they're all, you know, they're they're a group.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: She goes, Hey, would you be able to pick up uh, you know, uh uh Carol a hunter too?
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: Could have been it or two, whatever.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: And could you drop him off at the house?
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: I'm assuming it's because mom's work schedule it takes her, takes her to the the one that can't pick up her own kid, takes her to a point where she might not be home, let's say five?
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: Uh maybe five, maybe even four.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: You know, a lot of people, the old age, nine to five, that doesn't exist anymore.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: A lot of people are dumb by three and four, but they're in early.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: So maybe, for instance, like, okay, here.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: Gavin is in the car and we're on our way home by two thirty.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: So let's say mom works till three.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: See, you you see how this works out.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: She just can't get to the school to get her kid, and maybe the bus schedule doesn't work, so she asks her girlfriend, who the kids are friends too, and says, Would you drop them off?
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: Now, except on Tuesdays when she's got a longer day, and then maybe they are there till 4 30 or something like that.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: When don't they uh she has to take her to gymnastics or something or whatever.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's there is that possibility.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Oh, I don't remember.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Did she say she would have to take her somewhere?
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: I thought they were both going to gymnastics on Tuesdays.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: Wasn't it that what they were?
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: Well, I had suggested your way out of doing this is come up with an activity, whether it's real or not, that your kid's doing.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: Oh no, I thought there was an activity that they both did together.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'll have to go back and check.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: Well, uh, let's start with 5008 because I I really think the you have to up the ante on how much you give the person driving.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Now now the other mother said she'd pay.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: That's where this all comes to.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: Well, really, what we're trying to figure out is how much how much.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: Because the other mother, the one that has to work the little bit longer and wants the kid dropped off, said she'll pay, but she told her girlfriend, you come up with how much.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: That's never the way that it should go.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: You should automatically offer and then let the other person counter offer or accept.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: So with the whole picking up that extra child and then dropping off and then having them at your house for a couple hours, I don't know about you guys, but my friends' kids and my kids' friends, I love them like my own.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: So usually it's not a problem, but I can kind of tell them already by the caller that she already kind of sounds annoyed with it.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: So, what if her deal is that she says, Okay, just give me however much it is to fill up her tank for the week and call it good.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: But then she could also just say, like, hey, I can do this until December.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: After December, I can no longer pick up your daughter and drop her off or watch her before gymnastics.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: I think it also depends on their circumstances.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Like, what kind of home life do they come to?
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: That kind of thing.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: Or adding a lot of things.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Usually the kids will entertain themselves, so is it really that big of a deal, though?
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: But also, we had somebody else say, and I'm sure she'll give her a snack on that day too.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, probably.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: So you have to factor in food.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: You changed.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: You went from, oh, don't set a price to a second ago, you're like, oh, you gotta set a price.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, no.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: I think that's where the other mother, the one that's working, that's requesting this service, should have made the offer first.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: Hey, if I slip you 50 bucks a week, can you do this?
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: Like, okay, if you Or is 50 bucks okay or do you need more?
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: Well, that's another angle.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: Do you need more?
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: That's that's another angle to it.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: But I always look at it as though if you're requesting uh assistance with something, you should set a price.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: I just made this mistake.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: I just recently made this mistake.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: When Heather and Dan were down taking down the trees, I let Dan quote the entire price and I saved$200 from a tree service.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: Now I got to hang out with my friends.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: Don't get me wrong.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: That was the perk of that.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: But I should have come back and been like, no,$500 will do, not a thousand.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: And uh I did not, I made the mistake.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: Now he did a great job.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Don't get me wrong.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: I'm not bitching.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: Heather, I'm not complaining because I know she's listening, but I did not do your homework.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: I did not go in first and say, Well, I know how much it's gonna cost if I hire somebody, so I'm willing to pay this if you're still willing to do it.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: I didn't do it.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: So that was my mistake.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: Negotiating with friends is tricky.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: My other my other uh suggestion was with this lady, could have always said, Well, why don't you give me a gas card each week?
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: And however much uh you give, uh, like in other words, if the mother's only given a$20 gas card, it she's not valuing her other friend.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: It has to be higher.
- 4:39SPEAKER_02: No, and that's why I said from the beginning, you have to set a rate and say at least$50.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: So it leaves though, that's verbiage to say, and money for snacks, money for my time, but at least$50.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: And you could even say with gas prices today, at least$50.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, if you're gonna have to quote it, I just hate this this the picking up mother has to do all this when really the other mother that was requesting the service should have come forward and made a suggestion.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: Right, because I'm not Uber.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: I don't have a set rate that I've already put out there.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: Because if if she had a service, then yes, my rate is blah, blah, blah.
- 5:21SPEAKER_02: You're asking me to do this, so I maybe she should have thrown out, hey, for a hundred bucks, can you take little baby Kaylee?
- 5:29SPEAKER_02: Little baby, she's not a baby.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: She's not a baby, but like in fifth grade.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: Okay, what little Kaylee, uh teenage Kaylee, whatever, it doesn't matter.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: Can you take Kaylee?
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: For a hundred bucks, can you go back and forth with Kaylee?
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: I also hate the part about the, I mean, if you're a real friend.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: No, I don't even want to say that.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: I don't know how deep a friend they are.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: Two, one, we're listening to Scott and Allie.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: Scott and Allie's big three.
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: I also love this.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: Good morning.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: I think Allie is completely correct.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: I always love that.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: With going with 75, not only do you have to account for gas, but also the extra time on Tuesday, which includes, yes, the taking to gymnastics.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: You will also find out how quick it's important to her that that$75 leave her bank account every single week.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: You may not have to set a I'll do it to December.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: It might last two weeks, and she's like, I don't want to keep paying the$75 a week.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: That's true, too.
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: That could happen.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: And then it'll tell you a story about the friendship too.
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: Oh, then that's gonna get real messy.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: The big three is brought to you by E and V Energy.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: When you're heating your business, your home, your farm this year, call E and V Energy.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: No delivery fees.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: You talk to a real human being.
- 6:37SPEAKER_02: Can you believe it?
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: It's not AI.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: And they can do kerosene, fuel oil, propane.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: Just talk to them about all the different options, services, and delivery.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: A pickup truck crashed into an Elmyra building yesterday around 10:30, right after the show.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: It was traveling south on Clemens Center when it went over the median, then off the road through a fence before it made its way onto Baldwin Street and into that building.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: It's pretty spectacular of a description.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: Jeez.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: Representative Thomas Massey from Kentucky quietly introduced eight impeachment articles against Defense Secretary Pete Heggseth over the Iran War without alerting Republican leadership first.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: Speaker Mike Johnson then canceled Thursday votes, delaying consideration until after the midterms.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: And Prime Days have been announced.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: Amazon says it'll be October 6th and 7th.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: Oh, right when I don't have any money left after the payday.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Come on, get it right.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: First or 15th.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: That's the one I like for Christmas gifts and stuff.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: But can we get it right?
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: First or 15th.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Don't stick it in the middle so I can just jack my credit card up.
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: I kind of wish it was a little bit later in October because I'm not quite thinking Christmas at the beginning of October.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: I'm thinking it as we get sliding into.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: And what what about November?
- 7:54SPEAKER_02: What if they did it like the first couple days of November?
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: Then I'm really thinking about it.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: If they could do it three days before Christmas, that's when I start shopping.
- 8:01SPEAKER_02: Uh yes.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: There's the big three.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: Somebody just made a very good observation about this pricing thing that we're talking about with the mom.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: I don't know that it's gonna change your mind because I think you also want your time paid for.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: But their point My time is valuable.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but their their point's valuable.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
